Zoo

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Yumka is a delightful small zoo that offers an engaging experience for families visiting the area. With guided tours showcasing various geographical zones, you can encounter fascinating wildlife such as jaguars, elephants, and toucans. The entry fees are quite budget-friendly—children under three get in free, while older kids and adults pay minimal prices.
It was a very very nice zoo it was small but nice the animals look very healthy I wish I could be more interactions with the Monkees
Todd V — Google review
It's a very good place to go with the kids overall. Food options are not good at all, I mean, they serve its purpose if you're starving but nothing delicious or worth considering if you're not hungry, refreshments are good tho', try to call in advance to ask if they're in maintenance, otherwise you'll see a bunch of empty cages. Be there as early as you can.
Sonico — Google review
On my recent visit, the 2 guides for our tour were very informative and pleasant. They explained about every animal and their habitat. They talked about conservation efforts and where we can participate. The animals look well kept and healthy. My only concern would be DUMBO the elephant. His enclosure consists of only a metal structure in the middle of an empty land. With no big trees for him to cool off when the sun is at it higher point. It was saddening to witness how he tried to slim down and stay still in order to fit inside the very little shadow the structure was projecting. I hope the next time I visit the park, his conditions are better. They have a store at the entrance for you to buy snacks and plenty of choices for drinks since they don't allow outside food or drinks, yes, not even water. At the end of the train ride, there's a section with more exhibits and even though it is not a formal restaurant, they have sitting and they offer food options like tamales, empanadas, oreja de mico and different traditional candies and snacks. They also offer drinks and paletas de hielo. I hope everyone visiting Tabasco can take the opportunity to visit this place. It's not only kids friendly but has something special for all ages!!
Foviss H — Google review
3 hour wait to enter the park but it was actually worth it. That was on Easter Sunday. Bad idea. They say the park is empty monday to friday, go then. 4 stars because their organizational skills suck.
Matt F — Google review
This place is an amazing experience if you are in town, it’s fun for families. The prices are extremely affordable kids below 3 enter free, other kids are $40 (pesos), adults foreigners are ~$137 pesos (~$7 dollars) and local adults are only $80 pesos. It includes two guided tours: 1) a walking guided tour through the jungle, as you walk by the tell you all about the fauna and ecosystem there. 2) a train tour through the reservation where all animals are not caged, and in their own ecosystems. The third stop is a recreational area with additional animals and a park with a small shop for food and gifts. They have bathrooms both at the entry and on the recreational stop. Bring comfy shoes for walking, and clothes that cover your legs and arms! There are lots of mosquitos and ants around!
Alexandra G — Google review

Casa De Los Azulejos, also known as the House of Tiles, is a stunning 19th-century mansion located in the historic center of Zona Luz. It houses the Tabasco History Museum, showcasing historical objects and exhibits that tell the story of ancient Mexico. The main highlight of this landmark venue is its gorgeous blue-tiled building, with Catalan tiles adorning every room.
Lunch at the famous restaurant Sanborns at the famous and beautiful building - Casa de los Azulejos. Make sure to try the green or red chicken Enchiladas delicious. Service is very prompt and the staff very helpful and friendly.
Jeff F — Google review
interesting little museum. In my opinion, the main attraction are the beautiful tiles in- and outside of the building.
Felixspiess — Google review
Small place with random memorabilia from old days. The building itself is fascinating, but it does not give a clear introduction in Tabasco's history as it is also history museum. The entrance is expensive for what it is 22 pesos for mexicans 34 pesos for foreigners. Foreign residents pay as foreigners. Not recommended.

Museo Regional de Antropología Carlos Pellicer Cámara

Museum
History Museums
The Regional Museum of Anthropology, also known as the Carlos Pellicer Camara Regional Museum of Anthropology, is a significant cultural institution in Villahermosa, Mexico. Established in 1980, it boasts the second largest collection of anthropological artifacts in the country. Housed in a modern building, the museum offers an extensive insight into the Olmec civilization and the history of Maya, Zoque, and Nahua cultures in Tabasco.
Great museum about the Mayas in Tabasco. Entrance fee was 24 pesos and well worth the hour I’ve spent here. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the air-con works great! If you’re on a walk through town, it’s a great place to cool down while informing you about the history of the Mayas and watch many very interesting artefacts. Apparently, there are other expositions as well since they were preparing a painting exhibition, but at the time of my visit that part of the museum was closed to visitors, unfortunately.
René S — Google review
Nice modern building. Full with artefact of local Tabasco history. Is definitely worthy to visit. Very friendly English speaking security guy. 23 pesos entry fee.
Rudolf L — Google review
Entry was free today; normally 28 pesos. 10 staff working, but we were the only visitors. Lots of prehispanic artifacts, including the Mayan calendar predicting 2012 to be the end of the world!
Michael G — Google review
Another excellent regional museum with a collection mostly from La Venta. Unfortunately the interpretive signs are not bilingual and there are no audio guides. This museum also has on display a codice, a rarity for mesoamerican museums.
Mark P — Google review
Great museum, with a fabulous selection of mesoamerican artefacts. I'd recommend downloading Google translates for non-Spanish speakers

Parque Museo La Venta

National park
Nature & Parks
Parque Museo La Venta is an intriguing outdoor museum situated in western Tabasco. It was established in 1958 to protect the ancient Olmec settlement of La Venta from petroleum exploration, and houses several significant artifacts including giant stone heads and carvings salvaged from the oil fields. The park exudes a jungle-like atmosphere within the city, making it a fascinating destination for both history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
The park itself is very interesting. I was looking forward to see this place and the olmecs heads and it is truly worth the visit!
Silvia B — Google review
The ticket took forever,.than from the next window some man shouted: where are you from? He had to fill out a list, then at the entrance we had an argument since the ticket lady gave us the Mexican entrance fee and the entrance lady told her we should have paid the foreigner entrance fee, so they argued if a permanent residence permit makes a foreigner eligible for the regular fee or not and we just stood there.....until we decided to enter the park. A very unwelcome feeling. The park deteriorated a lot since we were here 4 years ago. Not worth the money. With or without discount.
Jeanette — Google review
A wonderful combination of a zoo, forest preserve and archeological site, with coatis roaming free thru the park, huge ceibas and mango trees and next to a lagoon with crocodiles, make it a unique place, not to be missed if you’re in Villahermosa.
Arturo F — Google review
Today it was free. No flash photography and don't touch anything. Not really kid friendly and you have to pay for everything.
Gadget 6 — Google review
Very cool outdoor museum of Olmec sculptures and altars. Situated on a lovely lagoon, it's one of the highlights of Villahermosa (excepting the dismal, unnecessary zoo included in the park).
Johntony — Google review
Make sure to bring mosquito repellent so that you can enjoy this place.
S K — Google review
I was visiting from the US and my friends wanted to take me here. It’s beautiful, for sure. I really like that it has the combination of being a museum AND a zoo! Mostly common zoo animals, but it’s still neat. I really enjoyed the bird area that you can walk into. The big head statues are awesome. The ONLY downfall is the amount of mosquitoes is torturous! Be prepared for that, bring plenty of bug spray/repellent because you will for sure be eaten alive by mosquitoes if not. We had bug spray and were still getting attacked haha.
Chris P — Google review
Nice experience but the animal enclosures were not very well kept. My animal lover kids were very concerned. We were not aware of the zoo and we were just fine without the zoo part. Very hot and humid but fun to see the archeological monuments.

It is an amazing place and experience. An interactive organic cacao plantation with a fantastic tour, culminating in a chocolate tasting. You learn so much about how the cacao is grown and processed. Allow at least 2 hours, so you don't miss anything.
Boyd C — Google review
This has been a very good surprise when it comes to museums. Is very interactive the services first class rustic and local as well as original. A 6th generation chocolate producer leads this interactive experience. You would not believe all the things that you can get from chocolate from delicious drinks to exfoliating creams. Highly recommended to anyone!!

(Translated by Google) It's impressive. The church on the outside is spectacular, just for its view whether during the day, afternoon or even at night makes Jalpa de Méndez worth the same as any magical town in Chiapas or Campeche, but the thing is not just there, inside It is built in detail and each space has a meaning, someone needs to do justice to all the symbolism that is inside, from the legends that are observed to the stained glass windows. If you don't stop by to visit her when you come to Jalpa, don't even say you came. (Original) Es impresionante.

Travelled here with our elderly parents from the UK. It's wheelchair accessible in most parts. Our guide was a lovely local girl, I think her name is Yvette. She was very interested in us and in giving us a great tour. She has a lovely warm and giggly personality and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The original house is beautiful. The grounds are full of many different plantations and not just cocoa. If you're lucky you'll also see monkeys sitting high up a huge mangoe tree. We made our own chocolate with the cocoa beans. Then we finally visited the shop where we were given a very good selection of free samples. There is absolutely no pressure to make a purchase, but we couldn't resist. There is also a restaurant, though not sure what is served but I did see children drinking delicious looking chocolate milkshakes. The plantation is definitely an experience I would recommend.

My wife and I were very happy to visit this farm on our first afternoon we were delighted to meet the owner who spent a longer time chasing with us explaining lot about fauna and flora. Next day our tour started early and we were luck to have Jesus - Chuchu to be our guide he explained us each and every small detail about the growing harvesting and processing of the chocolate, thank you chu chu it was honor talking to you

Absolutely love this place. The tour is well worth it. They have a botanic garden with various plants and an area where with the old house and belongings of the hacienda workers. You visit the owners’s old house, it’s like a museum. Then you get the chance to create your own handmade chocolate. The best thing is that everyone who works there is super kind and attentive- it was a wonderful experience, loved it!

Ancient Ruins
The city of Comalcalco is situated in the Comalcalco Municipality, which lies approximately 45 miles northwest from Villahermosa within the Tabasco state of Mexico. This location also holds a site of Pre-Columbian Maya archaeological importance known as Comalcalco. The ruins are surrounded by jungle trees and get very little tourist attention, yet they stand out due to their uniqueness in terms of architecture; many buildings were constructed using oyster shell bricks or mortar.

After one hour we were full of new facts and super delicious chocolate! I would totally recommend this visit to everyone!

Guys with good intentions. I had a good time but they have a big room for improvement. In general the conditions of the Hacienda are average, I realized that many places were not cleaned for years. It's not the same visit and old place than a abandoned one or tending to that.

We got a private tour from the granddaughter of the man who originally built the hacienda. Really interesting to hear all about how the cocoa is grown and processed into chocolate. If you want a tour in English call one day ahead to book it, but the Spanish tour is also excellent if you know at least a little bit of Spanish.

I thoroughly enjoyed being at this museum. The cost is very reasonable 65 peso. I did not spend enough time here due to my schedule. I am not sure if the site is the actual location where Olmec citizen would have lived 1200 - 400 BC, though I believe it is. If you're an enthusiast that does not speak Spanish give yourself 4 - 6 hours minimum. This will allow for you to read all the information posted, but most importantly walk through the site and try to understand the context in which the monuments are placed. The statutes inside are the largest that I've seen but also the most weathered. The statute at the entry to the museum is a replica made of concrete. Try to cover yourself to protect from insects when walking through site outdoors.
ABOB B — Google review
Like an open air archeological site. The important thing here is the Olmec statues. There were lots of ant-eaters in the park. Also there were lots of ants carrying leaves too(naturally). One part of the park was a zoo, it was sad to see those animals in cages pacing back and forth.
Berke A — Google review
We received a tour from a person working in the area for 40 years that made our trip worth it. Almost all the pieces are now copies. The originals are in Parque La Venta in Villahermosa. There is a nice population of oropendula birds in the site. They open at 900 and close at 1630 hrs.
Naayeli R — Google review

Good museum, Some excellent carved stone Olmec and Maya artifacts
Andrew D — Google review
The site and museum showing monuments of Olmec civilization. Most of it are replicas due complicated modern history of the site when were the original pieces moved to Veracruz and Mexico city due to urban and industrial projects in La Venta. Unfortunately it's visible that the museum is underfunded. The museum building need maintenance.

Bodies of Water
This 72-sq-km freshwater lake features boating & fishing, plus an island with Macaque monkeys.
Arguably Mexico's coolest lake. If you're into spicy snail ceviche and a little witchcraft (Ask For The Fake News Detox Special), this is the place for you. Make a deal with a small launch to take you to Monkey Island to see some of the charmingly ugliest creatures in paradise.
J. S — Google review
The lake and surrounding areas are beautiful. I took a boat tour and visited a number of areas around the lake. It was a little too commercialized for me. They tried to sell you things at each stop. I was able to see monkeys on two of the islands in the lake.

(Translated by Google) An excellent place to enjoy with your partner or family. There are two boat fees: when you pay for a private tour and when you take the boat open to the general public. I think I paid $400 per person in the summer of 2025 on a shared boat. The tour is beautiful, even though the wind is northerly in Veracruz. They take you to Monkey Island, explain some important facts about the place, and take you to a place where you can buy food and crafts. And what's essential: they take you with a "white witch" who will clean your pocket, depending on your mood. They also offer a mask made with mud from the lagoon. Greetings, travelers. It’s a shame that locals are fighting for the rights of this place, so you can only visit the upper area of the waterfall. Hopefully the conflict will solve soon, as the lower area of the waterfall is the most impressive

Beautiful place to visit and enjoy the waters of the river, The waters are at a perfect temperature for the heat and, unlike other rivers the water is warm, there is a small well-stocked store, the road to get there in good conditions, I only hope that our ejidatarios friends get agree on that conflict that benefits no one, even so highly recommended to admire the beauty of the waterfall from the other side, that is, the Cerro de la Iguana.

Very good place to see the falls. But there is a problem with the manegement, so most people know that it was close and also after entrance you can not find good service ! Place looks like abandon!!

The falls are beautiful. You can walk up to the top of the falls for an amazing view and also go down to explore the area below. It was a great experience and highly recommended.

Mesmerizing and astonishing. 'El Salto's' waterfall is beautiful, truly one of mother natures gift to the world. A must see on your visit to Los Tuxtla's region in Veracruz. A great place to take the family. People of all ages will be impressed by the falls massive pour of water and roar. The overlook brings you close to the edge of the fall. A stairway to the bottom of the fall allows you the opportunity to feel the crash of the water. FYI, you will get wet. Make sure your phone has a case and screen cover. Unfortunately access to the bottom is not wheelchair accessible, please be mindful of seniors and people with disabilities. Mind your trash and keep the Tuxtla region clean.

Beautiful experience. I recommend everyone go once.. went with my family, and we just loved it.
Ruben M — Google review
Even in the dry season of April, the waterfall has powerful flow even if not occupying the entire width. Good roads to reach. The Sihuapan street comes straight into the village, ends in a cul-de-sac which is the car parking area and entry to the falls. There is a 15mxn per head entry fee at the top and another 5mxn closer to the fall. Plenty of eateries, souvenir shops, toilets. From the point of entry, if one walks straight across a hanging bridge, one comes to a viewpoint overlooking the top of the falls. Instead if one goes down nearly 240 steps, one reaches a short trail that takes you right upto the falls. There is a barricade so that one cannot actually touch the falls or go under but there is quite a spray. The paths are well laid out, made of stone or cenent and not muddy or slippery. After the exertion of climbing back up the steps in the heat, it was refreshing to have a “ coco frio”, a chilled tender coconut drink outside.
Krithika M — Google review
Short drive from Catemaco. Small fee for entrance. Yes as other reviewers have said, lots of vendors, however, they are all friendly and just trying to scrape together a living (mostly poor indigenous Mexicans). That aside it's a beautiful waterfall as seen in the Mel Gibson movie. It is also possible to walk along the riverside from the falls for a short distance.

With over 7 million liters of saltwater and more than 250 species on display, it is considered the most important and largest aquarium in Mexico and Latin America.
One the best aquariums around the world I visited. The shark diving was excellent and loved it all the way . The picture you take with the dolphin 🐬 kissing on your cheek is just ossum. We missed to get the tickets for penguin 🐧 play time where you can play with penguin 🐧 in personal time of around 30 minutes. Would love to do that on my next visit to it .

A lovely experience at the Aquarium today! It’s bigger than I expected with a lot of rooms and spaces for different species. I went on a weekday around 3pm and it was pretty empty. Lovely to walk around and learn about marine life. There’s bathrooms available and a foodcourt right outside the exit once you are done with some little stores.

San Juan de Ulúa is a 16th-century fortress complex located on an island in Veracruz State. It has been transformed into a museum offering guided tours. The region is also known for its rich cultural heritage, including the Olmec civilization.

We were not told ahead of time, but you must leave all food and drinks (other than water) in the ferry. Any candy. And the snacks and drinks purchased on the ferry as well. Unfortunately, my friend left her bag with candies just purchased and it went missing. Lots of walking involved. I suggest paying for the guided tour, very informative.

This is a great historical place to visit. It's a drive from the city so take a taxi or other transportation vehicle. Restrooms are available. Only water is allowed inside the fort not any flavored waters. Recommended to go early as it gets hot later in the day. There are guides available outside of the fort.

At least 450 years old, the existence of this fort predates the founding of Boston. The architecture corresponds to the military models of the time. It might not be as well preserved as other castle/forts in the Caribbean, but it certainly is worth your visit. I have 2 small children, and we found plenty to enjoy as a family in our 2 hour-long visit. You can hire private tour guides at the entrance, but there is also plenty of information online to inform you as you search its many nooks and crannies. It's well worth the 60 pesos entry fee.

Very interesting place. Tickets are around $85 pesos per adult. I recommend getting a tour guide (our charged $50 additional per person) to tell you the story. It is incredible how much has happened here. We took a trolley from the artisan market and paid $100 round trip per person. Everything is outside so consider sunblock, a hat and water.

Great historic fort with a lot to see. A pity that it's been allowed to degrade so much. Still, there seems to be a lot of work going into renovations of at least the core structures. Hopefully when I come back I can view this historic treasure in it's full glory. Definitely worth a visit. I would recommend the guided tour as well, there are a few English speaking guides.

Really nice venue for a quick visit. The entrance was free and it is located within 10 min from downtown. Parking is available in the street. There was lack of staff so it was a self-guided visit. A small museum was opened. But the must is the architecture of the place which used to be a sugar cane factory. There was a small shop selling some handcrafts but no one was available. Overall, a nice spot in Cordoba.

Popular spot for lunches & ice creams on fountainside benches, with views of the palace & cathedral.
A beautiful and peaceful place to hang out with friends and family. You can stay there and contemplate the trees or people.

Great visit, 50 pesos normal price, 25 pesos student price. Very insightful tour, nice tasting at the end

Friendly staff, the entrance was 50 mxn. There was a shop with some handcrafts, coffee products and upscale coffee beans (130 mxn for 250 gr a bit overpriced). Small venue. The greatest con was that the tour was way too long, more than an hour just to listen to some explanations about coffee and could definitely be shorter as some facts were not important or interesting but I do not know if this depends of the assigned guide. Then you get to participate in a more detailed explanation by drinking actual coffee (40 minutes). There was a café next to the backyard but they had lack of staff because it seemed that no one was there attending. An ok experience in Cordoba.

Wonderful museum - really clean, organized, and well laid out information. The garden is peaceful and they have a large variety of coffee plants all labelled. The café is great, was really excited that they had a tisana of coffee cherry and several methods of extraction! Shop is well-stocked with local coffee. Best of all is the (hourly) guided tour - Paty was super knowledgeable not to mention a great barista, if there's anything you want to know about coffee she will be able to enlighten you! If you're a coffee fan then ask questions! Your appreciation will be deepened. And if not, you just might become one..

I rarely write reviews about places, but if you have any interest in coffee, this place is a must-see. Genuinely friendly and extremely knowledgeable people. Simply fantastic. The coffee tasting at the end is the cherry on top.

Way above expectations. Sometime you are not sure what you are going to be getting in museums at small towns but this was really good. It will guide you through a bit of the local history of coffee, origins, type of plants, nice interactive tools, and, the best, coffee tasting. Something worth to visit.

It is a wonderful experiencie, guides are knowledgeable and really nice. You learn so many things about coffee and its production and the benefits of the purchases you make go straight to the farmers. Not to be missed at all!!#
