Nature & Parks
Parks
El Charco del Ingenio is a remarkable botanical garden and nature preserve located on the edge of San Miguel. Spanning 67 hectares, it features an extensive collection of cacti from Mexico and around the world, along with other indigenous flora, some of which are endangered species. The landscape includes walking trails, a reservoir, streams, and a bird sanctuary. Visitors can join guided tours or take part in special events such as traditional temazcal steam baths and yoga classes.
Today, we explored the stunning Charco del Ingenio, a protected natural area and botanical garden located in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. While walking through 500 species of cactus and other native plants under the blazing desert sun wasn’t everyone’s favorite activity—especially for the kids—it definitely built some character! 🌵☀️ Did you know that cacti are some of the most resilient plants in the world? They’ve adapted to survive in some of the harshest environments, storing water in their thick, fleshy stems to endure long periods of drought. Charco del Ingenio is home to many rare and endangered species, making it an important conservation site. The area also has a fascinating history; it was once part of a larger volcanic region, which contributed to the unique mineral-rich soil that supports such diverse plant life. Plus, it’s a vital water source for the local community, with natural springs feeding into the area. Despite the heat and the challenge, it was a valuable experience for the kids—building character, awareness, and appreciation for nature’s resilience. Sometimes, the toughest journeys lead to the most rewarding discoveries! 🌱✨

I was pleasantly surprised! I was expecting a small park, but this place is big with many different trials to hike and places to see. I spent about 90 minutes here, but could easily have spent double that. The entrance fee is only 100 pesos, and they offer a discount for teachers and students with valid IDs. There is a huge dam, waterfalls, rivers, plants, observatories, and much more. They have a gift shop with handmade goodies to help support their conservation efforts. It is well-kept, and the variety of plants and small insects is fascinating. Come prepared with hiking shoes, water, sunscreen and a hat because you can spend half a day here. I took an Uber there and back, or you can drive because there is plenty of parking. They also have clean restrooms and a small cafe selling drinks. The views are amazing, and it's perfect for a quiet getaway in nature.
Carina S — Google review
Really big botanical garden with great views into the canyon. It’s so peaceful here and you can see many different plants and bird species. The natural products in the shop are great too and the staff is super friendly!
Laura S — Google review
We visited the Charco Reserve this morning, glad we got there at around 10 in the morning and while it was getting hot by the end of our hike, we were very glad that we wore sunscreen and hats and got there early. Many parts of the trail are covered with shade, but many parts are not. We spent about 1 to 2 hours hiking the trails, there are many options, we did find sometimes that there were a few too many options that were unmarked, never that we felt like we would get lost, but we’re not clear which path was which on the West end. They have done an absolutely beautiful job with the buildings and the displays and the preservation work that’s done for this important botanical region. Many little surprise buildings along the way, including the four winds and the memorial and surprising views not just of the water and the dam but also the unexpected canyon… Absolutely worth a visit. We took an Uber to get there And walked home… If you have bad knees, I would not recommend that as the downhill is pretty steep, but was definitely just a 20 to 25 minute walk back to Centro. I imagine that a nature guide if hired would have been very informative, but you certainly don’t need one to enjoy this place… and thrilled to be here just as the monarchs are starting to arrive…

Charco del Ingenio is a great visit. Wonderful paths to roam and explore the large natural gardens. Beautiful plants 🪴 and cactus 🌵 mixed together. Large presa and wetlands. We are lucky and live only 10 mins away and joined as Members on the spot. Highly recommend a visit for couples, families and singles. Nice store and snack bar (jugo verde was delicious). Staff is great and very friendly.
Rail1riders — Google review
Beautiful peaceful relaxing place with many plants. We saw many spiders (the season for them) as well as lizards and a road runner. Interesting displays in English as well as Spanish which we appreciated.
Lauri S — Google review
Great location. Good hiking with lots of interesting stops along the way. The trails are all marked well and groomed. We ate a little snack at the Cafe. Food was all hand made and excellent. Juices were, too. Bring a couple of bottles of water. You can refill them at the Cafe for free after your hike. We went east to the hothouse and old Bridge. Then along the lake to the dam and the Sculpture Marker on the other side. We did not go to the Hacienda Ruins as I don't think that area has been completed. We came up for a snack and to use the restrooms. Then took the lower trail along the canyon to the western viewpoints. The ladies in the reception area are really nice. English and Spanish is spoken. My wife spent more at the gift shop then we did on the entry tickets. Highly recommend.

I’ve been going for many years now - still the best place to stroll around close to town. Go in the morning before for the heat comes up, fabulous views over the city. Great vistas at any season. I finally decided to join the botanical garden as I really like all the new construction they have done architecturally the new rooms are excellent the vaulted curved brick work is amazing.

Fantatstic art and antiques galley. We walked there and back from the plaza in Centro. So many eye popping displays. I snapped these images before I realized they ask for no photos throughout. I feel like these images do not egregiously snub that request. I discovered many things. I discovered a few art classes and a new artist I will be following. Well worth a return!

I was there for an incredible wedding and whilst I was there, there was a festival going on all weekend. 1000 horses passed through the streets one day followed by a huge party in the streets till the early hours of the morning with food and drinks available everywhere. The following day was kilometres of people walking the streets, dancing and acting for hours, music, culture and food everywhere, it was incredible. Fireworks from 2AM through till around 4AM, fun all round. I was there at the beginning of October 2025.

It was very walkable and we covered a lot of ground within a week's stay capturing the unique essence in this area. There are hotels throughout the city as well as Airbnb's. The locals are very friendly and you're greeted by many passerby's! Buenos dias.

Just a beautiful parroquia (cathedral) to see in San Miguel de Allende. You don’t have to be catholic to appreciate the beauty and design of this church. You’ll see it from all around town. It’s the center of town for a reason and admired and appreciated by all her residents. Highly recommend.

Simply breathtaking church, With such rich history. Day or night its a spectacle. So many shops, delicious eateries and music in the area. Loved every minute. Felt safe the entire time. Wear comfortable, rubber sole or traction shoes because the terrain (cobblestone) is rough outside of the plaza.

We really enjoyed our visit to Cuna de Tierra with wine 🍷 tastings on the patio. Oldest winery in Dolores Hidalgo, GTO. Favorites were a delicious rose, a dessert wine similar to a port and some of their vino tintos. We purchased 4 bottles to bring home. Worth a visit. Recommend! Suggest a reservation so they know you’re coming.

We had a fantastic lunch at the Cuna de Tierra Restaurant! The setting is just what you are after when eating in a vineyard, vines all around, fantastic shady table under a tree and a knowledgeable sommelier that can recommend pairings from the a la carte menu. The food is also excellent, with Mexican and more European dishes available. Thanks to Antonio and the team for a wonderful experience!! And let’s not forget the stars of the show, the wines are fantastic with a wide range by the glass too
Alex P — Google review
We spent an exceptional afternoon at Cuna de Tierra learning about the wine and the history of the region. Our host Paco was knowledgeable, gracious, engaging, humorous and clearly passionate about the importance of this growing wine region. We opted to have the four course lunch paired with four very nice wines. Pairing on 3 of the 4 were spot on, my wife believed all four were perfect. Lunch was served under a covered terrace overlooking the vineyard. The chef explained the food and preparation for each dish. The food was exceptional as was the wine, the hospitality was equally memorable. We will be enjoying the wine we brought home with fond memories of our afternoon at the vineyard.

If you are a fan of the singer this is a must see as they have about a 10-mins "immersive experience" as you walk in which is just terrific, that goes through his catalog of music and the titles and songs are explained. The Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores is a historic church located in the heart of Dolores Hidalgo. This magnificent building holds great significance as it was the site where Hidalgo delivered his famous Grito, marking the beginning of Mexico's fight for independence. The church's stunning architecture, adorned with intricate details made of cantera, showcases a blend of baroque churrigueresque style.
Magnificent architecture! You can see bullet holes from a long time ago engraved in the front of the building. The inside is incredible and the design of this place is breath taking. So much history to be learned from this place. This is where Mexico fought for its independence long ago. The Cry of Dolores or “Grito de Dolores”, was when a priest rang the bells and triggered the start of the Mexican war on September 16, 1810.

I recently visited Dolores Hidalgo that had a beautiful church called Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores. The church was located near a lovely plaza in the center of town. It is a very large and well-preserved church. Walking through its corridors, one can see the care and maintenance dedicated to keeping it in such a great state. It's one of the most ostentatious churches I have seen while visiting Mexico.
Erick V — Google review
This beautiful church stands tall among the local buildings. Please keep an eye out for the intricate details found on the front facade, which are made of cantera. Construction first began in 1712, and three centuries later it still remains as a prime example of baroque churrigueresque style. Upon entering the facilities, gaze up to the ceiling and you will discover a taste of centuries past.

Magnificent Parroquia de Nuestra Senora marking the birthplace of the Mexican Revolution against Spain in September of 1810. Father Hidalgo made his famous call to war to the local population on this plaza. After over a decade of bloodshed the costly conflict gave way to Freedom for Mexico in 1821.

A beautiful church, and since it's facing the main plaza, you can have some of Dolores Hidalgo's famous ice cream at the outdoor stands there after your visit. This church figured in the Mexican independence movement; there are several interesting, inexpensive museums a few paces away.

There were some beautiful paintings and some life size statues reenacting different parts of the revolution or life in that time period but otherwise it was disappointing. Fortunately it was not expensive, only 10 pesos, about 50 cents.

Cañada de la Virgen

The Cañada de la Virgen is an ancient archaeological complex consisting of pyramid structures that date back to the 7th century. This remote site is a remarkable destination for visitors in San Miguel who are willing to embark on a guided tour that lasts approximately 2.5 hours, and involves walking about 1.5km with some elevation along the way. Although located quite far from the city, this well-preserved historical landmark is definitely worth visiting due to its sheer size and cultural significance.
Can’t believe I didn’t leave a review from my tour 3 yrs ago! An incredible experience to learn about the brilliant peoples who built this pyramid, directed water to their gardens and apparently were experts of movement of sun, moon and stars. Amazing location in middle of a working ranch with stunning views. Visitors should know a lot of walking is required, no shade and the local guides at the Center speak Spanish. All bags are checked in and left at the arrival Center. Don’t miss the food and crafts vendors near the center. Would love to see the skies above it at night!

Wonderful archeology site. No wheelchair access. No backpacks are allowed. Take water. 3/4 of a mile hike to site.
Stewart R — Google review
Amazing place. Not too busy during the week. Fair entrance fee, which included parking, toilets, tour guide and bus shuttle service. Shuttle doesn't go all the way to the site though. The last stretch is walked with the group. There are places to take a short rest and get shade. Walk takes about 20 minutes. Tour itself is another 30-45 minutes. they show you everything and explain the meanings and history. it is one of the last pyramids in Mexico where you are allowed to walk up, so it's a once in a lifetime experience. if it gets busier they will probably stop allowing it. at the entrance there is also a small stand for food and drinks. the lady there makes amazing quesadillas. all self made. all in all an amazing experience. Also very close to San Miguel (20 minute drive) so you can combine both.
Mtths R — Google review
A magical experience given by a brilliant archeologist who has worked on the site for over 20 years. An impressive amount of knowledge presented in a digestible manner with humor and precision. This tour was a one of a kind experience, due to its seclusion, there are driveways and gates for private accessibility only. We were able to climb & descend the steps to the main site, a truly spectacular opportunity. After tour we were given chance to enjoy homemade tacos and cold drinks that were vegan and gluten free friendly💚 We were then given access to the museum. That concluded the tour with more stories of their artifacts and findings of this truly mystical site. English speaking friendly tour. A large brim hat for shade and comfortable walking shoes are a must.

This was an amazing trip! I would recommend this to everyone, really a must-see. Albert Coffee is a great guide, but book in advance. After your tour, you will have an opportunity to buy some street tacos. These are a must at the end.

Interesting historical site in Guanajuato state, near San Miguel de Allende. The tour guide speaks in Spanish, which we were not yet fluent in, but the museum has some English translation. There is a 15 minute bus ride, and a 20 minute uphill walk to the site, about a mile and a half round trip on foot. Plan on spending about 2-3 hours there. It may be a good idea to call ahead to find out the bus schedule. On the weekday we went, there was a two hour wait between buses, if we had arrived 5 minutes later, we would have had a two hour wait. The path is made of stones and dirt. It would be challenging if you are not in shape or not used to the altitude. There was no apparent access for people with movement disabilities, but there is a museum to visit if you are unable to make the trip with the rest of your party. There is a snack stand and restroom at the visitor center, but no facilities once you get on the bus.

Teatro Juárez, a performing arts theater built in 1873, is a magnificent neoclassical building located in the heart of Guanajuato's main square. The exterior is adorned with massive Doric columns and a Romanesque portico featuring nine bronze statues of the Greek muses. The plush Art Nouveau interior boasts rich gilded decor, finely carved wood, and stained glass. It serves as a popular venue for musical and dance performances.
Guanajuato is a city brimming with historical charm, and El Teatro Juárez is undoubtedly one of its glittering jewels. From the moment you set eyes on its impressive facade, you know you're in for something special. But the real magic happens when you step inside. The interior is a symphony of colonial elegance, a captivating blend of history and artistry that leaves you breathless. Every detail, from the intricate carvings to the opulent decor, speaks volumes about the rich cultural heritage of this magnificent theater. Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a performance by the University Symphony Orchestra at El Teatro Juárez. The experience was simply unforgettable. The acoustics were superb, and the atmosphere, imbued with the theater's historical aura, elevated the performance to an entirely new level. Whether you're a lover of music, history, or simply breathtaking architecture, El Teatro Juárez is a must-see destination in Guanajuato. Don't just admire it from the outside - venture in and be prepared to be transported to another era. You won't be disappointed!

The theater is beautiful and performances were awesome, but there is not air conditioning inside the theater. Even though Guanajuato weather was in the 50s, the theater inside was too warm in mezzanine area. Leg room was pretty bad too if you are at least 5’ 9”. If you are taller than that, maybe stick to ground floor where it looked like one has more leg room. We left at intermission because the leg room was uncomfortable in mezzanine seats. We were on section P1-06, seats P6-3 and P6-4.

Teatro Juárez is an absolute architectural gem and a must-visit in Guanajuato! The stunning design alone is worth the trip, but the experience gets even better with its affordable prices—such a refreshing contrast to what you’d pay in the U.S. The symphonic orchestra here is phenomenal, blending incredibly gifted local and international musicians into a performance that’s pure magic. I opted for general entrance and scored an amazing balcony seat right near the orchestra—some of the best views in the house! This is hands-down a top destination and an unmissable experience in Guanajuato. Five stars all the way!

Inside, visitors can admire a jewel-covered statue of the Virgin Mary, which dates back to the 8th century and holds historical significance.
Guanajuato city, durig christmas, a must-see. What an amazing experience. Walking through the cobble stone ally ways is like being in Spain. Between the world famous Tiatro, or theatre's, or taking the tram up the mountain for a birds eye view of the city, you will be amazed.

Start your visit here at the Basilica, do a little research before you arrive. This is what lots of money can do when you have it along with devote faith. The Monumento Al Pipila is a tribute to a local hero of the War of Independence, situated on a hill that offers breathtaking panoramic views of Guanajuato. Visitors can reach the monument by climbing stairs or taking the city's old funicular from Teatro Juarez. The colossal statue depicts Pipila holding a torch with his right arm raised and left arm resting on a stone slab.
What a view!!! If you are visiting Guanajuato you must make the trip up to this statute. It's a monument to a hero of the Mexican revolution but more than that it's location affords a commanding view of the city and mountains. While you can take the tram both up and down, I suggest just taking it up. The walk down is much easier than I would have expected.

Stairs stairs stairs everywhere. Please be advised if you have lower extremity problems. Otherwise this is the best view of the city. Its breathtaking. And dont pass up the local food and snacks being offered at the top by the locals. DELICIOUS! If you are fit and decide to opt out of the lift car (either up or back down), my husband climbed the stairs and said it took him 5-10 min. He was winded but he said it wasnt bad.

Two options to go here : funicular ride or the stairs. The hike is tiring but great things to see too. I go up with stairs and go down with funicular. The funicular cost 40 peso and stairs are free. Nice view from th platform. Big statue of pipila on top of the hill. Some shops nearby and also toilet is nearby.
Reyner G — Google review
Great spot and a delightful view of El Centro, the downtown city center and the river of commerce that flows through its base. You can see a big chunk of this historic city from here but certainly not the whole thing, you need to visit La Buffa to see it all and that's a hike, like an actual hike with a bit of amateur rock climbing required. Bring a hiking stick if you go up there, it's like a third leg. But back to Pipila. There is a short funicular ride up for $40MX pesos. A steal compared to the heart attack you might have trying to take the path and steps which are not marked well, if at all. It doesn't look very far away or up and maybe technically it isn't but you aren't walking a ladder up to it so it's a pretty circuitous route. I recommend hitching a ride up on said funicular and then walking down from there. Behave like water here and you will never be lost. Just keep going downhill until you can't and you will be at the basin of the river of commerce and everything leads from there. Behave opposite of water and you will find little treasures off the beaten path. Better food and charming shops. You cannot get lost because if you don't know where you are you only need behave like water and soon enough you'll splash into the river of commerce again. This place was built up by geological forces and carved out by millennia of floods and monsoon rains. Don't fight it. Get lost. Be water. Be found. Find a bench. Find yourself.

Narrow alley with steep steps known for a tragic love story that draws couples to its site to kiss.
Good story (legend). Too crowded on a Sunday. Over 30 couples waiting. Came back on Tuesday and there was no wait. Make sure to take a pic standing on the third step up kissing. Otherwise it’s bad luck. :)

We had a great experience here. Do some homework first and you'll enjoy the experience. Knowing the legend beforehand we and having seen pics we just wanted a photo but over the festival weekend it had hundreds of people in line. We asked before and were told it was mxn $50 to get on the balcony. We deduced immediately this would be mxn $50 each since we would each go to separate balconies. The guy telling the legend and taking pictures with your phone/camera does it for tips and he does it well and takes many great pictures. The fun for us was in the crowd, both watching them as well as having them cheer as we kissed and cheering as they kiss. It was really a great festive environment. If crowded or on the weekends they open the balcony at noon. Just show up a few minutes early and you shouldn't have to wait. It's likely not crowded during the week or when large events aren't going on.

Alhóndiga de Granaditas Regional Museum

Mentioned on
55 lists
History museum
Museums
The Alhóndiga de Granaditas Regional Museum is a captivating blend of art and history, housed in a former granary that played a pivotal role in Mexico's War of Independence. This historic secular building, completed in 1809, served as a granary and marketplace before becoming a fortress overrun by troops led by Miguel Hidalgo. The museum commemorates this event with a statue overlooking the city from a nearby hillside park.
I highly recommend visiting this historic and emblematic site, which holds great significance in Mexico’s history. In the past, this space was used as a warehouse for seeds and grains, and today, it serves as a venue for cultural events and exhibitions. Walking through its halls, you can truly imagine the feat of El Pípila and reflect on the importance of this place in the country’s past. The entrance fee is $75 MXN (approximately $4 USD), and the visit can take 2-3 hours, depending on how much time you spend reading and exploring the exhibits. The central courtyard is beautiful, and the different rooms provide a well-organized overview of Mexico’s history, from pre-Hispanic times to the Revolution. There are also temporary exhibitions that complement the experience, such as the Alebrije room (which is filled with alebrijes made by people who attend the workshop offered there) and exhibits on Zapotec culture. If you can, I recommend finding a guide to accompany you, as there are no official guides inside. While the staff can offer some information, having a guide makes the experience much richer. The site is clean and well-maintained, but accessibility is limited. Students with a valid ID can enter for free, and if you want to take photos inside, there is an additional fee, even for cell phones. This place is a must-visit for history and architecture enthusiasts, as it offers a deep and structured insight into Mexico’s past—one that continues to shape the country today.

Erick C — Google review
Really disappointing. Almost zero English information. After all the hype about this museum, I was really disappointed. I love history, and I have been to dozens of museums, but with my very limited Spanglish, there was little of the information that I could follow. Given that there are about 30M English-speaking visitors to Mexico each year, and Guanajuato’s reputation as the most beautiful city in the country, I assume that there would be at least a few million of those tourists visiting this city every year. Yet we only saw one piece of English anywhere. The chronological histories displayed looked very good, but we could only guess as to the actual events happening. Photos of the building being used as a prison, and other events were very interesting. The murals in the stairwells were quite striking; very different to others I have seen. The pre-Hispanic era info looked informative, as did the Messi-America displays, the pottery etc, but there is plenty of this in other museums that many people may have seen elsewhere. The memorials to various Mexican historical figures downstairs were impressive but had little to do directly with the history of the location.

The Museum of the Mummies of Guanajuato is a popular attraction that displays over 100 mummified bodies, accompanied by an informative video. These naturally preserved remains date back to the mid-19th century when locals succumbed to a cholera outbreak. The museum's origins stem from cemetery staff exhuming bodies between 1865 and 1958 due to unpaid taxes, subsequently charging visitors for viewing.
Great museum, been here when I was kid and now as an adult. Very neat to see and understand. Parking is 18 pesos an hour. We spent an hour with even using the rest room and grabbing a snack.

I was surprised by this museum! 😱 There were so many different mummies. And some bad stories, too! They have the YOUNGEST mummy in the world, a 6-month old fetus mummy! 😱 And the stories are in English & Spanish! 🙏🏼 I wish there were English tours available. Or headset to listen to stories... Or QR codes to read more about the stories.. that would be nice.. No bathrooms inside 😔 Pay bathrooms outside.

Now you see kids, this is what happens when you don't pay your bills! Pretty interesting but pretty creepy too. Beats the Egyptian mummy museums hands down. We were there in mid-May and walked there from the funicular. A long hill on the last part but not bad.
KARL H — Google review
I loved this mummy—honestly, it fascinated me on so many levels. When I first walked into the museum, there was a noticeable scent. Not a creepy or unpleasant one, but something strangely familiar… earthy, maybe? It felt like the scent of time itself. What the staff didn’t mention was that my 106-peso ticket only allowed access to the basic exhibit. I didn’t realize this until I was about to leave and noticed there were other areas I couldn’t enter. That part was a bit disappointing—so make sure you buy the full ticket if you go. The tour guides spoke only Spanish, so I didn’t understand much at the time. But once I got home and did my research, everything clicked. These mummies are completely natural. No embalming. No rituals. They were discovered when the government exhumed bodies due to unpaid burial taxes—and shockingly, many were perfectly preserved by the dry conditions and the unique soil. The first mummy ever found was a priest, which is why he’s quite famous here. But the most heart-wrenching and iconic is the six-month-old baby mummy. The baby was found still in its mother’s arms—most likely both died during childbirth. That image really stuck with me. What struck me most was how this baby, who would’ve been seen as a symbol of the divine, ended up buried without breath, sealed in sawdust, only to survive time as a mummy. It’s philosophical. It’s poetic. And no, it’s not scary at all. These mummies are oddly endearing. Almost gentle in the way they speak to mortality. Later, while walking through the local market, I saw some sweet potatoes and tree roots in the same earthy tones as the mummies. Everything started to feel connected—like nature, death, time, and even snacks are speaking in the same color palette. Wild, right? So if you’re visiting Guanajuato: 💀 Don’t skip the mummy museum. 🎟️ Buy the full ticket. 📚 Read up afterward if you don’t speak Spanish. 😌 And if you’re scared—honestly, don’t be. These mummies aren’t scary. They’re full of stories and quiet wisdom. If you’re too afraid… maybe it’s best not to come. But if you’re curious, it’s absolutely worth it.

Glad I read the reviews beforehand so I knew what to expect. GO DIRECTLY TO THE MUSEUM PARKING. Be prepared to pay extra if using a card. Went in the morning. Hardly anyone was there besides random people (4+) trying AGRESSEVELY to hawk super inflated items in the parking lot. The exhibits were nice enough, but not very informative. Maybe 15 of the mummies actually had an explanation of their origins. Didn't pay extra for the fancier exhibits though. The gift shop had a decent selection, but also inflated prices. $230 pesos for a T shirt when other vendors are selling for around $150. All in all if you're in the area it's a fine museum, but I wouldn't make this the sole reason to visit GTO.
Israel S — Google review
Arrived around 2pm on a Sunday. Waited for ticket and entry for about 45 minutes. 120 pesos for the main exhibit and the extra room. They bring you in in groups, but they don't pay attention to how many people have left before letting more people in, so the museum gets so packed that you literally cannot walk to see the exhibits until your group moves to the next room. By the time your group moves to the next room, the group or 2 behind you are already filling up that room so it's packed again. I think this was because my group was offered a free guide, so they stayed in each room longer to listen to his information. But I wanted to also see the mummies, so I eventually waited for my group to go a few rooms ahead and by the time I was maybe 3 or 4 groups behind and the guide was nowhere in sight, finally there was room to walk and see the mummies. Very bad organization! The mummies themselves are cool and the extra room was nice and quicker to walk through without the crowds. Took about 45 minutes to walk through the entire museum, with being stuck waiting for the crowds to move for 5+ minutes in each room. I think if you go earlier or maybe on a weekday, you'd have less chance of a crowd. I also think being in a group with a free guide was not good with such a large group.
Maddi P — Google review
The most expensive museum I visited in Guanajuato and the most interesting/disappointing as well. When you enter the first room, it is very cool seeing the mummies and how well preserved they are and learning about how some of them died. Then you walk into another room...and same thing. Then another room with the same. Then another room with the same....you get the idea... Also they say to try and be quiet but the tour guy is shouting loudly and people are talking on the phones etc. Bottom line - interesting but basic exhibit and poorly organized. Tickets were 106 pesos for adults.
Johnny L — Google review
First time visiting. Very interesting. Worth the trip. A long line on Sunday, super crowded and a long wait to purchase tickets and enter. Group tours led by a guide. Too many people to fit in each salon and it was hard to hear the guide. Also, as a non native speaker it was extremely difficult to understand all the complex aspects of the tour/museum/mummies. However it was still very interesting and memorable.

Sights & Landmarks
The Shrine of Christ the King is a stunning destination perched atop a hill, offering visitors breathtaking panoramic views of Silao and Guanajuato. Dominated by a magnificent 65-foot bronze statue of Christ and an art deco sanctuary, this site is not only visually captivating but also spiritually enriching. Many come here to pray, reflect, or shop for religious souvenirs in a serene atmosphere that fosters devotion and gratitude.
100% recommend for everyone to visit this place atleast ONCE! Views are breathtaking, also make sure you take a coat for a chilly trip up there. It’s also FREE entrance for everyone
Ivan V — Google review
The place was clean, and the view was more generous and beautiful than I remembered. It's definitely one of the best things to do in Guanajuato. Any Christian should experience this beautiful and peaceful place. I was also able to experience authentic, freshly made food from one of the original fogones in this place. I dare you to try this place. I don't know if I was hungry or the fresh hand made tortillas on the fogon with the pork ribs chile and the frijoles de oya and nopalitos was to die for. The fresh purple water made with hibiscus(jamaica) was amazingly refreshing. Talk about lunch and a view for 3 for the amazing cost of $400, pesos less than $25 American dollars. Amazing!!

Great drive up ths mountain and very impressive site once there.

If you are in the area and like figures of Chris, this is a must see if you are in the area just like the more famous one in Brazil.just be prepared for the ride up the mountain. About a 30 to 40 minute ride.

Very beautiful views worth getting up there. Limited things to do but it’s a great place to pray/read and eat around the small restaurants on the hill. If you get altitude sickness or are afraid of heights... maybe this isn’t for you 😂
ZayumDavid — Google review
Before coming to this place by car, make sure to check car coolant and air pressure on the tire. The road is 20-30 minutes uphill and road is bumpy as hell. I saw two cars overheating and there is no auto shop of any kind around. There is parking space on top but you may need to wait until space is open during holidays. Saw some people riding bicycle up the hill and that is both difficult going up and down as road surface is rough. Once you are on the top, 360 Deg. view of all surround area is possible, what a magnificent view from the top. It is worth going up no matter what method you take. Saw many number plates from very far places.
Atsushi S — Google review
Such a beautiful place to come and see. All the surrounding around the Shrine are breath taking. Its located on the very top of a mountain as seen in the people below. Come pray, read, little shop for your religious needs and memories for your visit. A lot of people have devotional faith and come to pray and or give thanks. Took drone video and photos. Didn't try the small restaurants for the yummy food that smelled delicious but It's a must see. Very safe atmosphere.

Irapuato should have bigger malls. Cibeles has a very limited selection of stalls and brands. It's safe and convenient though for me as I live very close to the area. I oftentimes opt to shop online.

This is just like any other mall but they do have an aquarium which is awesome. There is so many clothing stores here and food choices. I prefer the Argentine streak place put front. Also I have been told some of the stores are a bunch of fake name brand items but I have no way to confirm. If you have time to spare might as well check this out.

We went with our little ones and they have a lot of fun at Recorcholis that is like an Arcade where they can play video games, bowling, get on some rides but only for little ones, and there is an area for children up to 80 cm like 31.4 inches or 2 ft and 7.4 inches, and since this pandemic times only allow no more that 8 kids inside that area. As the rest of the place It wasn't crowded and they sanitized quite often. So we felt pretty safe. And we went to get a meal too at Hot Wings, they only accept also a limited group of people. It has kids menu. The food was good and beer was cold and the waiter was nice and efficient. We took our stroller but I think they need someone who watches the elevator, sometimes, we needed to wait longer to use the elevator because some people didn't wanted to use the electrical stairs and they seemed to be perfect to get on the electrical stairs. Now they allow to pregnant and little kids to go inside the mall only using mask face and it is mandatory and they will put you antibacterial gel. So I hope next time I will visit, the elevator has some vigilant that watches peoples like pregnant women, elderly and wheelchair users as well families with strollers are using the elevator instead of strong people who can use the electrical stairs. As the rest of the mall, they sanitize often and they offer antibacterial gel almost everywhere. So feel safe but If is too crowded better don't stay to long as we did. Be safe!

Parque Zoológico de León is a delightful destination for families and animal lovers alike. This zoo offers an impressive array of wildlife, featuring hundreds of animals from around the globe. Visitors can enjoy unique attractions such as safari tours and miniature train rides, making it an engaging experience for all ages. The park emphasizes education on wildlife conservation, providing insights into various species while allowing guests to observe them up close.
This is a great zoo! We got the tickets that included the safari, which I enjoyed. The zoo is well laid out and I love the areas where you can get close to the animals. It’s nice to see them roaming around freely :) They have a nice variety of species and some I’ve never seen before. I also loved feeding the giraffes as they are one of my favorite animals!

Beautiful clean, get the tickets for the safari, it is totally worth it

As our first visit, it was great. We were here on Sunday and there were a lot of locals. It's not just a zoo but a park as well. They had construction everywhere, but that didn't seem to stop the locals from enjoying the day.

This zoo is incredible! Really well maintained and very large. We came at a weird time, early during the day on Halloween - so everything seem to be prepared for a Halloween haint experience and even without going for that it was still awesome! Highly recommend visiting! I er can be tricky to get out to the zoo....so plan Accordingly when you want to leave.
Diana P — Google review
Great zoo for a first timer! Took our 6 year old here while in Leon for a fútbol tournament. It was his first time and it was a great option. The zoo is not too large or too small. It was a good 3-4 hrs of walking around and taking our time. The animal exhibits are small and the animals weren’t very active but our son had a fun time seeing them up close. The safari ride was fun but not worth the purchase of the package, the package did NOT include everything. Still had to purchase experiences throughout the park. The do not sell anything but soda and water. Tacos near the giraffes are AMAZING!!!!!
Danielle C — Google review
Nice family place. No where does it have a smooth walkway for handicapped folks to navigate on thier own. Lines were long but went quick. You pay for parking. There are no ATMs close by. You can purchase tickets with a credit ir debit card.
Eric G — Google review
Needs to be taken care of and redeveloped. The cages were too small (the racoon alone in literally a box broke my heart) especially considering that there is so much space left unused or dedicated to pic-nics and games. The priority for a zoo should be giving animales care and space, not giving people a random park to eat out. The place seemed pretty dirty and old as well... which is a shame because they have beautiful and rare species (tigers were amazing). It really needs maintenance and a plan to rebuild and distribute space better. Please, visit it and pay your tickets, they really need contribution to redevelop things and invest in serious care, cleaning and restoring spaces. I beg the administration of the park to think of the animals first! Children can go pic-nicking somewhere else; families can go play somewhere else... they have a choice; the animals you keep do not have a choice. Please, give them more space.
Virginia C — Google review
This was an amazing zoo! I was a bit bummed out because you can’t walk through and have to drive through because of COVID-19. But it was actually a pretty cool way to see the zoo and we all agree we will be going back!

The museum offers an insightful look into the region's culture and art. Visitors can explore well-curated exhibitions with excellent lighting, although most descriptions are only in Spanish.

Very interesting. Parts are very well done. Relied on my wife for translation. With today's technology, translation of displays is very easy but that is not frequently available here, just a few displays, hence 4 stars. The history in 1800's was particularly well done, period by period as it is an important period for the area and of course Mexico as a whole.
Peter L — Google review
To be fair, they were in transition when we visited so only a couple of small, permanent collections were open at the time we were there. I would like to visit again when they have more on display. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Incredible museum to visit! Highly recommend making a trip to see this museum for the historical aspect as well as the artistical. Everything is in Spanish but maybe ask if they have audio tours in English, or use the Google translate photo app to translate to English. We went on a Sunday before heading over to a Leon soccer match. The museum was free and the stadium is right next door. Made for a great Sunday.

If you're on the hunt for leather goods, Sp zona piel is an absolute must-visit destination! This expansive marketplace boasts a vast array of vendors showcasing everything from stylish boots and chic coats to durable luggage and trendy apparel. The selection is truly impressive, featuring both high-quality national products and more affordable options sourced from China. As you wander through the bustling streets lined with shops, be prepared to spend some time exploring; it can feel overwhelming due to the sheer volume of choices available.
The place to go if you are looking for leather goods. You will find the whole range of stuff from “top notch” quality down to the real cheap goods in low quality also. Some of the shops are just wholesalers which sell in volume only but most businesses are for the “normal” customer also. Always try to negotiate prices and never pay the first price which is asked. Recommended
Thomas K — Google review
Like all other reviewers have stated the abundance of leather goods is HUGE! From national products to China based products. You will need to shop around to get a good deal but it seemed like most places have their prices set for wholesales vs , individual sales. Most places accept cash and will give you about a 10% discount for paying cash. Make sure you go with time to look as it can be overwhelming. Places usually open between 10 and 11. Some places are friendlier than others.

So fun to walk through many city blocks of store after store! (Walk back in more for better deals,, and bargain for a discount). All kinds of cheap shoes, some nice leather boots, bags and coats, luggage, belts, hats, some clothes. The shoe deals are fantastic! Buy an extra bag and take home handstiched cowboy boots or purses! (For less than $100.00) Safe area during the day, but gets very crowded. Right across from the main bus station
