Breathtaking view of the ocean and sunset. Entry into the hike was 20 pesos. We were able to spot 2 whales while admiring the beautiful view. The photos don’t do it justice!

Ok ok, i had to wait two weeks to write this review. To stay objective. Beautiful trail that starts from Mazunte beach. IMPORTANT: either wear long pants and long sleeves or have something to be waking the horseflies away. (They’re too many, too much to handle) honestly I didn’t know what to do. They bite in contact and they’re so painful and itchy. Pray 10 pesos to get in the trail. The guns it’s short to get the highest point where the wind is blowing and horse flyers can’t attack you. There you can enjoy of the breeze, the sunsets, and just the contrast that offers the observation of the coast shore from this point. Brace yourselves to get thru the houseflies on the way back.
Claudia T — Google review
Worth the hike. Beautiful views. Costs a small fee to enter. Very popular place to watch the sunset.

Incredible views and sunset! They charged 10 pesos for the entrance. Also they check bags for the drones and alcohol. Not allowed!

Beautiful place where locals father to watch the sunset. Wear mosquito spray!

insanely beautiful. go while good weather

Don’t get me wrong, this is a gorgeous place to watch the sunset. The views are absolutely breathtaking and unbeatable. But the amount of people that show up is pretty crazy. Like you can’t even take a decent photo because it’s really crowded and there’s people everywhere. Other than that, it’s alright
Gustavo J — Google review
It’s a beautiful place for a sunset, you have to do a 20 min hiking but the view is priceless even though it was little cloudy. I recommend be there at 5 in the afternoon and you can find a good place to sit and wait for the sunset, if you can carry a portable chair, I’ll be better. In the middle of the trail you’ll find a point for inspection of belongings and payment area, the payment is a voluntary amount. Alcoholic beverage are not allowed

Mazunte Beach is a remote beach in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, with four different beaches each offering a unique experience. Playa Mazunte is recommended for a relaxing day of sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying Mexican food. The left-hand side of the beach is quieter and offers parasols for rent. It's important to note that the waves at Mazunte Beach are strong and not suitable for children, making it a popular spot for surfers.
The beach is spectacular with little waves, ideal for swimming. The turquoise blue water allows you to swim and interact with fish, whales, and dolphins. You can bring your pet unlike other beaches in the area.
Sol A — Google review
Beautiful beach with rocky outcrops you can sit on. My 6 year old loved to play in the shallows but my two year old was scared of the waves.
Marika H — Google review
I went there two weeks after the storm hit And you could tell the ocean was still cleaning itself. I didn’t feel comfortable getting in the water, the currents and Webers were very unpredictable. Also a wonder if one of the restaurants mentioned that some ppl had drowned lately. However I had planned to stay for a week, and I did but to be honest, I don’t know why I stayed all this time. I can’t say I enjoyed it so much. I often meditated on a big rock at the beach and that was nice. Not sure I’ll be back
Claudia T — Google review
Amazing!! Good food and a beautiful beach! The town of Mazunte occupies a small bay to the east of the Punta Cometa peninsula. The majority of restaurants, shops and yoga studios lie alongside the main road (route 175) or Mazunte’s busiest street, Rinconcito, which runs perpendicular to the beach. I love this place!
Coucai — Google review
Super chill beach. I loved it. It's quiet not to many people. The waves don't pick up until 12 and settle down around 1600. 100% recommend
Kai C — Google review
One of my favorite beaches on the Puerto Escondido coast. This beach is great because you can really swim here and it is filtered with lots of sun and rock formations that are easy on the eye. There are lots of places to shop and get food and while the restaurant lounge options are limited they are there if you come early to get a seat. The waves are nice and the sand is lovely. It’s dust Next to Zolita and adjacent beaches so there’s lots to see and do in this area.
Heather A — Google review
One of the best beaches in the area. Great for walking and running, with good waves to do surfing, and a really nice cove for swimming and snorkeling. The only reason for not 5 stars is that you are competing with the locals that are fishing in the same cove. There can easily be up to 10 people fishing in the small cove (not sure how long they are going to still have fish there). I would not recommend swimming/snorkeling at the same time all the fishing is happening. Also, be careful of the currents where the surfing waves are, 2 people had to be rescued in the 4 days we were there.

Hridaya Yoga

Meditation center
Spas & Wellness
Hridaya Yoga, located in San Agustinillo and Mazunte, offers drop-in classes and a 10-day silent retreat at its Meditation Centre. The retreat is led by Sahajananda, who provides guidance with wisdom and compassion. Visitors have described feeling safe and secure during their time at the center. Many have reported profound experiences of personal transformation, including finding self-love, improving relationships, generating income, setting boundaries, and dealing with inner struggles.
I spent some time in this school and had the opportunity to participate in a couple of retreats and workshops and they deeply touched me and left echoes that i am still integrating after months. To me, this is a place where the teachings reflect true essence of yoga. Deep, deep gratitude.

This is an absolutely magical yoga community that attracts the most loving, inspiring people to its excellent retreats, classes and workshops, all offered on a safe, enchanting campus with a glorious view of the surrounding beach paradise. I have participated in many morning group meditations, drop-in classes, an unforgettable ten day silent meditation retreat, the first and second yoga modules, and almost six months of the intensive Karma Yoga Program. Let me just say that every day at Hridaya has inspired and challenged me to become a more peaceful, compassionate, loving human being. In my experience, anyone can find encouragement and divine grace in the ancient, syncretic spiritual teachings gathered and transmitted by the school's founder. If you have the least bit of interest in yogic practices and/or aspiration to find more spiritual connection and peace with life, definitely come here and get to know the Hridaya philosophy, which is focused on self inquiry to dive into our deepest, most essential Self. The incredibly dedicated, generous staff, delicious plant based meals, and charming local community just augment the power of this life-changing place! Thank you Hridaya sangha for sharing so much love, wonder and beauty with the world!

I had the privilege of attending the 10 day Silent Meditation retreat at Hridaya this autumn. I'd heard amazing things from many different friends and acquaintances about Hridaya over the years, but never carved out time to dedicate to the practice, but now that I've finally done it...I wonder what took me so long? I won't comment too much on my personal experience, because everyone's experience will be profound and unique to them, but I will say that it was challenging and beautiful and exactly what I have been craving and needing. The center is in a beautiful location, a very short walk to the beach, the instructors (Claud and Iris in this instance) were absolutely amazing - so experienced, grounded, engaging, and present. The lectures and practices were excellent, the food phenomenal, and it felt like a very safe space with a clear, healthy and grounded and non-dogmatic methodology focused on positive virtues and the heart. The 10 days were humbling... and I will definitely be back. I cannot believe how rested at a deep level, and well I feel after being there. I recommend anyone who feels a little whisper in their heart who wants to attend a retreat, to go for it.

LEAVING THE 10 DAY SILENT RETREAT EARLY (BEST DECISION) It feels important to say I left this retreat early and it’s one of the best decisions of my life. I was very curious about a 10-day silent retreat, and while there were some good moments, the majority of the experience left me rather shaken. During the teachings, I felt like I was being told some questionable "facts," and since we weren’t allowed to talk (only write questions once a day), I had no way to question or process them with others. We kept being told that this was a “purification process,” but I didn’t understand, purification for what? That phrasing made me feel like they were trying to convince us there’s something wrong with each person that needs purifying. Honestly, it felt a little culty at times. In the end, I left because I didn’t agree with the teachings. I was being told a lot of things that felt like make-believe. Sometimes the teachers would describe what I *could* experience during meditation, and I know my mind is clever enough to then just create those things. I would have preferred to simply experience whatever came up, without suggestion. I also felt the teachers gave input on things they weren’t qualified to speak on. In a Q\&A session where participants wrote questions, someone asked if they could listen to a downloaded meditation to help with insomnia. The teacher told them not to , because of the “purification” process. Insomnia is a legitimate mental health disorder, and advice like that could genuinely harm someone. That moment really made me question why I should trust these “leaders” on any topic. I also got quite sick during the retreat — and of course, this was explained as my body “purifying itself.” I slept a lot the first two days and then couldn’t sleep at all, which is very unusual for me. I just didn’t feel well there. While I’m sure part of that was due to the intensity of the experience, I think the bigger issue was that I didn’t trust the teachings or the teachers. Everyone was perfectly nice, but something felt off. I truly hope this course works for others, but for me, leaving was absolutely the right decision. Compared to other silent retreats, this one is expensive. I heard that in most other retreats, if you leave early you’re not expected to donate. Here, I had to choose to forfeit the money I paid. They say it’s a cheaper option, which I guess it is depnding on which others you compare it too, but there are other donation-based retreats that seem better to me. This felt a bit like a money grab. Also, throughout the retreat, they kept mentioning (promoting) other courses like, “If you want to learn more, we discuss this in our 17-day retreat…” I found that very annoying. Again, the staff were perfectly nice. The facilities are well located. The food is good.

Believe it that I'm UNDERstating things when I say various courses and retreats I've completed at Hridaya throughout the last 4 years have been: *life changing, healing, connecting, eye mind and heart-opening* ...on a scale and level that I did not realise is even possible. I've completed silent retreats, dark retreats, mens' work, conscious intimate relationship work with them. Including online. All absolute gold. These are NOT only peak experiences like some sacred plant medicine work can be (I've sat with dozens of those too in ceremonial and therapeutic contexts). The changes are much more likely to be long-lasting. In my case, life-lasting :-) Can't wait to be back for more!!!
Szabi B — Google review
Oftentimes when I visited yoga centers I had the impression of receiving a self initiated, commercial-spiritual package to make me paying lots of money. The Hridaya showed me, how a real yoga studio/ holistic center should be like. I had the feeling of getting an insight of how real yogis act and what is an honest attitude towards people that visit the center. And with yogis I don't mean just people that put their bodies in special postures or meditate all day (what they also do ;) ) but just the fact that I instantly felt accepted by the whole community and that money wasn't playing such a big part for making lots of Profite. The price I paid for the module 1 intensive course was super fair and I've never learned so much in such a short time. I felt like I received more than I paid and this is also one aspect of really trusting the practice of hridaya Yoga. The teachers were so autentical and full of love and compassion. They really felt and lived what they preached. The whole module changed the way I am looking at things and I will definitely come back again !

Attending the 10-day silent retreat at Hridaya’s Meditation Centre in Mazunte was a transformative experience for me. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in such a serene and nurturing environment. Under the guidance of Sahajananda, I felt so fortunate to have a leader who exuded wisdom, compassion and the best Humor throughout the retreat. One of the aspects that truly stood out to me was the sense of safety and security I felt throughout my time at the center. The supportive team ensured that every question I had felt welcome, that allows me to fully surrender to the practice without any worries. The food provided during the retreat was not only nourishing but also absolutely delicious. Each meal was thoughtfully prepared and served with love. I recommend skipping the salad, since water is an issue in Mazunte and that can provide from belly pain. Being part of a community of 150 individuals all engaged in meditation created a powerful energy together. As I continue to integrate the profound impact of my time at Hridaya’s, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and peace. I highly recommend this retreat center to anyone seeking a deeper connection to themselves and the practice of meditation, yoga and the teachings of Ramana Maharshi. I will come back to continue, learn more and go deeper. Much love to all of you

*** update: I did receive a refund promptly from Hridaya after sharing my experience. This made me improve my rating. I had an unfortunate experience here. Some background from me: I am of North Indian descent, grew up with my spiritual and ancestral teachings of yoga and meditation. Some history that is relevant: During the British occupation of India, yoga and temple dancing was banned for Indian people- it was seen as barbaric and deviant. The British also stole 45 trillion dollars of resources and commited many atrocities against Indian people including ignorantly drawing a line through the most heterogenous part of the country in 1947. That line caused "Partition" and a genocide of the Indian people. I have been connected to and learning yoga through my family since I was a child. I have been teaching, sharing, and participating in yoga internationally since 2012. I have encountered many yoga teachers who are not Indian that teach in a grounded, culturally sensitive, mature, integrated, trauma informed way. I have enjoyed many yoga workshops from a variety of centers and places. Sadly, Hridaya is not a center I would ever return to. I signed up for a workshop called Flowering of Love. It sounded nice. The first question we were asked after sharing our name was how we heard about the workshop. Then the teacher proceeded to ask which poster was more effective in marketing the workshop. We werent asked why we wanted to learn or our intention. At one point during the day, the teacher made a generalization of men in South India and Myanmar - saying that their second chakras were all out of balance and he witnessed bizarre things in the "East" such as desperate men declaring their love for married women by knocking on their door. I know a lot of Indian men who don't do that. This was an example of subconscious racism. The day was long with 1-2 hour breaks after each session which involved sitting, talking, listening, dyadic work, and group work. None of it was trauma-informed, at no point did the teacher share his educational background, his life experience or his qualifications relating to the content of the workshop, or cite any sources besides Ramana Maharshi's practice of feeling into the right side of your heart- none of it was justice oriented and none of it was very grounded. I felt ill by the end of the day. I had travelled a long way, I was pre-menstrual and I could sense my female ancestors were yelling at me to leave. Why was I paying $350 to listen to yet another European man dressed in white talk about relationships and diluted spiritual teachings to a group of mostly women? It felt so wrong. I had a huge migraine. The cherry on top to this ridiculous day was after dinner (we started at 8:15 and I left sometime around 6:30pm) I told the teacher and his assistant I had to leave because I had a bad headache. The teacher's response was "Ooohh that is too bad, I had a great ritual planned for tonight, we were going to talk about love, can't you join on zoom?" And then his assistant tried to tell me that maybe my headache was a symptom of something. The appropriate answer for any teacher or any person when someone is not feeling well or healthy is: "oh I hope you feel better soon. Is there anything you need? Have a good rest." Instead, this teacher was all about himself and his spiritual pedestal. Look back and you will see other reviews where Hridaya has been insensitive to people's physical health. Spiritual bypassing, passive aggression and cultural insensitivity was my experience here. If you are a South Asian woman, I strongly recommend avoiding this place - they have not done the research and work to know that they are continuing the colonial mentality towards our cultural and ancestral teachings. A lack of ethics and sensitivity is clear. I recommend all the teachers read Susana Barkataki's work or better yet hire someone to audit their diversity and inclusion practices regarding yoga. I feel like I wasted my money. There is a no refund policy, but to pay for this felt so wrong.

The Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga, also known as the Mexican National Turtle Center, is a significant educational and conservation facility located in Mazunte. It serves as a museum and research center dedicated to the study, rehabilitation, and preservation of various species of sea turtles including olive ridley, brown, hawksbill, and leatherback turtles. The center aims to shift the focus from consumption to the protection of local sea turtles.
Had more fun here than I intended to absolutely beautiful landscapes and the Turtles genuinely seemed happy and there was even an alligator. I believe it was under three US dollars to get in as well. Cash only

I've been living here for a long long time and I've always thought this was not a place that I would like, but boy was I wrong. Amazing place, good educational part. Price is good, lots of information and a wide variety of turtles. I would come back to show this to my friends/family.

Great place to take kids, my kid love seeing turtles. Please note this place is more like a rehabilitation center for turtles. Depending on what is brought to the center is what you would see on hour visit. Turtles are released once they are healed from their wounds. Staff is very friendly and it is a great way to help this good cause.

I recently visited El Centro Mexicano de La Tortuga and was thoroughly impressed by the experience. The center offers a fascinating journey through various exhibits featuring a diverse range of turtles. It’s incredibly engaging, and the experience only gets better as you progress through the exhibits. The walk-through takes about 30 minutes and provides a comprehensive look at different turtle species and their habitats. For just 45 pesos per person, it’s an incredible value. The center is both educational and enjoyable, making it a great stop for anyone interested in marine life or looking for a unique and affordable outing. Highly recommended!

Nice little outdoor museum with many different turtle species. Very reasonable entrance price (about $2.30 USD). Friendly staff. I would recommend.
Hester H — Google review
Turtle prison - too many full size turtles in tiny enclosures so they can't even swim. Clearly depressed and lifeless, being harassed all day by children and picked up and tossed around and staff do nothing.
Nick F — Google review
Amazing place that helps sick turtles and baby turtles get strong to give them a better chance of survival
Laurel F — Google review
Was excited to go after reviews showed good caring for the turtle but turned out to be a very sad visit. Some turtles had it good, but 80/90% have a rough go. Some enclosures have walls so steep out of the water the turtles can't get out, so they're stuck in the water 100% of the time. Others have wooden ramps to get up that, again, are obviously far too steep so they're stuck there. Some info signs say "these certain turtles like low current rivers" but they have a waterfall flowing into their water. One tank was so unclean the water was thick and dark green full of algae - the turtles in it had a thick layer of algae on their shell. I understand it's under budgeted and I'm assuming understaffed (only saw 2 gardeners all afternoon) but most of the issues would be a simple, obvious fix. Beautiful turtles, sad experience.

Our guide was Sergio. I couldn't have asked for a better guide for a tour like this. His guidance, knowledge and professionalism set a new standard for guidance. Sergio was the difference between an average trip and an unforgettable one. The vivid landscapes, the way the people live, amazing!! An experience I will never forget, powerful and professional!

Excellent tour with Sergio! The lagoon was beautiful and tranquil with many crocs and other animals around. Sergio was very passionate and explained everything clearly and in English and Spanish. Top tip, rent an sun umbrella from the stall opposite their office 👍

We had a fantastic experience at La Ventanilla Ecotourism near Mazunte. Our guide, Sergio, was excellent—he spoke perfect English (having lived in New Zealand) and shared lots of insight about the local ecosystem. What really stood out was the group’s genuine commitment to conservation. They avoid using engines to minimize disturbance to wildlife, which makes for a peaceful and respectful encounter with nature. We saw several huge crocodiles up close, along with a variety of birds and iguanas. It was both educational and beautiful. Highly recommend this tour!

A highly recommended place to experience nature; you will get to see various bird species, turtles, crocodiles and other animals. When you go, make sure to get the tour from the “White Shirts” group; they are the first group you will encounter.

We had a wonderful experience, and immensely loved our evening helping those little babies get to the ocean. It was a great time! Our guide only spoke Spanish, so if you didn't know you had to rely on those around you. We will absolutely be back!

We did the crocodile viewing via a boat ride on the lagoon. It was wonderful. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and provided us with some rather close encounters with the animals.

Probably my favourite experience in Mexico so far. The guides are very knowledgeable, the animals are wild and clearly not being exploited. None of the boats have motors on them and are hand paddled so as to protect the area. You get really close to some beautiful crocodiles. Would recommend to any and all nature lovers.

Beautiful beach and loved the Mexican music in the background. Restaurant staff tries hard to get your business, but that’s just how it is in almost any touristy place in Mexico. You just smile and keep walking til you get to where you want to go. Once you choose a place, their service is top notch.

Great beach 🏖️ and you don't need snorkeling gear with just some goggles your good since the fishes are really close to the ocean shore.

Once you arrive, you will be approached immediately by restaurant staff trying to convince you to go into their restaurants. Facing the beach, walk to the right look for the bathrooms & showers & take the public path to the beach. The water was calm, lovely & incredibly clear. Be aware that in the afternoon numerous boat tours show up quickly and their customers are herded into the restaurants to be fleeced. I simply walked to a quiet area of the beach & set up my space and had an enjoyable time.

Tons of beach side restaurants of which the staff will accost you as soon as you get out of a taxi, trying to get you to come to their place. At the far left end of the beach, there's a small public swimming area where we were able to snorkel from and see a wide variety of small fish. The waves and current there were fine for swimming and our kids being in the water. Beautiful turquoise, warm water.

Nice beach but sadly not for kids as I was advised and very expensive. The side where the kids can swim is open sea and the waves can pull you They rent pool swim inflatables , which is crazy!!!! , there was a couple with their child and the waves started pushing them to the deep , they had to swim and push him Of course the people who give it to rent will never tell you this danger so please don’t rent this and also very expensive. I am glad I didn’t rent it and if something happens you have to pay full price for the ring more than 1000 thousand pesos The food is not good and all is expensive , a chelada cost 150 pesos I would rather recommend LA ENTREGA . La entrega beach has not sun beads but you can rent an umbrella and the restaurant la entrega has an amazing food and very good prices and good place for children too

Virgilio and his team are lovely people and simply the best! I had so much fun learning and sharing amazing dives with them. They are great at what they do. I always felt safe, accompanied, supported and they made sure to clear all my questions always with a friendly and amazing attitude and they think of every single detail to make sure the divers are comfortable. I definitely recommend to do your open water and advanced certifications with them. Thanks for everything!

What a stunning day exploring the bays of Huatulco! Virgilio and Carlos were incredible—professional, knowledgeable, and excellent instructors with a great sense of humor :) Their expertise, especially Virgilio's passion as a marine biologist, made the experience not only fun but also deeply educational. It was amazing to enjoy both diving and learning about the vibrant coral ecosystems and colorful fish species. I highly recommend Buceo Huatulco for anyone looking for an unforgettable diving or snorkeling adventure in these beautiful waters. Huge thanks to Virgilio and Carlos for an outstanding tour!

It was a great pleasure to meet Virgilio, Pilar, Kevin and Kathy! I did my "Advanced" with them 6 dives/3days in total. All instructors were very patient and attentive, never let me out of the sight, provided lots of information about the area, shared some photos and videos and even helped me to put my wetsuit on. Every day we got some delicious fresh fruit during the break and cold drinks. Chill days out there by the ocean - not rushing at all - perfecto! I'll definitely be back one day mostly because I can see the big heart behind the business. Děkuji moc za vše <3

Best experience ever. Every morning you are lovingly awaited at the diving school. If there is a problem, you will be helped immediately, “no rush, everything will be fine”. I am very pleased with the way of teaching and highly recommend this diving school!

Went diving yesterday and it was an amazing experience , the staff really go beyond for their customers , super trusted, Virgilio is very knowledgeable and has a pretty amazing personality. I’ve got to see so much under water life , it was awesome. Book it you won’t regret it.

I spent three days diving with Virgilio, Tito and Carlos between 15 and 18 of june 2022. Buceo Huatulco has been a very good choice. Relaxed but very professional on the boat and in the water. Diving equipment in excellent conditions. Both, good service and good company. A lot of knowledge about local marine life and dive sites but also about the best taco options. It has been a pleasure!

Had a great time diving with these guys. My wife is certified, but just barely. They were very patient and helpful with her. Super easy to work with. Prompt, courteous, and safe. Will be back again, and would book with Buceo Huatulco again. Also - I think they might be one of the only shop that dives on a Sunday, maybe this will help someone - helped us!
James S — Google review
I absolutely LOVE this scuba company! This is my second trip to Huatulco, and I make sure I dive with with Buceo each time I come. Buceo is fun, caring and has excellent equipment. We met at their dive shop, signed the forms, and then headed out to the marina. On the boat, all our towels were stored in a dry area as we took the boat to our dive location. We only brought masks and dive computers - Buceo provided the rest. All was good. We once again had Carlos as our Dive Master, and was joined by Kat who is well on her way to becoming a DM. Carlos sets a lovely pace, and points out every creature - big and small. He's also very knowledgeable about the coral and the shape it's in - global warming has not been kind to our oceans! Between dives, we had a variety of drinks, and lots of fresh fruit. We spotted a whale breaching as we went to our second dive location, so the captain quickly slowed and took us as close as we could get without disturbing the whale. For the Canadians who are visiting - Carlos and Kat speak excellent English. We get caught up on the latest happenings in Huatulco, and always have a wonderful time with this amazing crew. I highly recommend Buceo! Alisen

Parque Eco-Arqueológico Copalita

Park
Nature & Parks
Parque Eco-Arqueológico Copalita is a small archaeological park near Huatulco, nestled in the jungle of the Bahias de Huatulco nature reserve. The entrance fee is around 46 pesos and it's definitely worth it. The shaded trail takes you past pre-Columbian structures like a ball court, temple, and large pyramid. Although climbing on these structures is not allowed, you can still admire them from the trail.
This park recently reopened and cost about 46 pesos to enter. It took about two hours to walk through. There is a visitor center but it appeared to be closed. The shaded trail leads through several pre-Columbian structures including a ball court, temple and large pyramid. You are not allowed to climb any of these but you can view them from the trail. The trail could use some maintenance - there are some areas where I had to dodge hanging branches. Hike to the steep upper part of the trail to the Mirador - a lookout to a beautiful panoramic views of the ocean and the ruins of an ancient lighthouse.

Please note* this place is constantly updating, so things may have changed! Summary: 1. Gorgeous views with a small uphill walk/ hike. 2. Loads of geckos, birds, and other animals. 3. A lot of the pathways were washed out due to hurricane. They seem to be rebuilding! 4. You cannot go up to the ruins, though you can see them from about 12 feet away. 5. There was no small museum when we visited. It seemed empty, but maybe it will be there when you visit! While supporting a National Park in Mexico, you can take a stroll up a stone pathway to some outstanding views of La Bocana, the coast, and see where the river and ocean meet by a sand bar. The views were gorgeous, and we saw so many animals. If you're lucky you can see horses running along the beach below. While walking, there are big signs that teach you about the local fauna in Spanish. It's interesting stuff! Some of the pathways have been washed out due to hurricanes. They seem to be actively fixing this, but something to note as a lot of the pathways are under construction. Still great to go support them while they rebuild! The ruins are active archeological sites. This means you cannot take photos, or walk directly up to the ruins. It's still really neat to see the architecture, as it's different than how the Mayans used to build.
Ash W — Google review
Great two hour walk in a Mexican jungle. Definitley a work in progress, but well worth the 90 pesos. Great views at the top of the walk. Maybe the archeology people and the National park people will get back together under cordial circumstances, settle their differences and get back to letting people take photos of the 1500 yr old ruins. Right now, no photos allowed.

Still relatively unknown to tourists, the Copalita Ecological Park and Ruins (Parque Eco Arqueológico Copalita) sit on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in the Huatulco resort area. Remnants of pyramids, temples, a ball court, and a pre-Hispanic lighthouse dot the lush landscape of the archaeological park, which also includes a massive stone believed to have once been used in sacrifices. It has a beautiful viewing point!
Coucai — Google review
Beautiful reserve that includes prehispanic temple, a pyramid and more. The ruins are just that -- ruined by time and nature but picturesque in this low-lying jungle. The viewpoint (mirador) over the ocean offers rare views of untrammeled nature.
Johntony — Google review
It is worth visiting this park! The place has a local biologist that will guide you throughout the place, explaining everything. If you are not versed in understanding Spanish, I highly recommend to bring someone to translate. There are lots of interesting facts along the way. To spot animals comes out of luck. But even if you are not lucky, you’ll still enjoy a good hike among local flora. There are some amazing trees, and of course, the view from the highest point to the beach and the river mouth is worth the visit! There’s also a sort of museum or visitor center with local handcrafts. It’s not just an exhibit, but also a store if you wish to take something home. However, the main point of the exhibit is not to sell it, but to explain how some of these crafts are done. This part was very educational too. There are explanations written throughout the place both in Spanish and English if you wish to learn more or not depend on a guide. However, to get into the forest is only allowed with the guided visit. Last, but not least, this place relies on donations. They are optional, but encouraged, and they suggest to give away 300 pesos per person. The donations help them maintain their jaguar sanctuaries, which is part of the mision of the organization that’s in charge of the administration of this place.
Vasti O — Google review
We dragged our feet before we got here. Shouldn’t have. It’s a beautiful park and you should set aside 2-3 hours to see it. Very friendly personnel and if you like to you can hire a guide. We didn’t. We were planning to come back with some friends and do it again with a guide but unfortunately that did not happen. Oh well next year. Part of the park is a bit steep so be prepared.

This is museum park around Archeological digs in the area, highlighting the indigenous people of this region (Mixtec & Zapotec). Temples, town & ball court are some of the digs that can be seen. There's also the spectacular views of the meeting between river and ocean. Highly recommended.

Took a day trip to waterfalls on a vacation to Huatulco. Spectacular day walking in nature culminating in view of falls. TIP: Recommend taking a tour. The roads are narrow and bumpy, and I would not suggest self driving.

Amazing experience. It's a little far and costs 100 pesos per person but it is such a huge cascada and dogs are welcome. We spent the whole day there.

This place is absolutely stunning! Incredible pure water, so powerful and peaceful. The only thing about it which is not great it’s a road from Oaxaca and people who are working there don’t speak English at all, sobe really for the tricky parts.
Iryna H — Google review
Great place for a short walk along the river with many small waterfalls and places to swim. The water is refreshing and crystal clear. The road is mostly fine with some dirt sections. It's possible to drive any normal car there, if you are fine with dirtroads.

Paradise on earth. Have a local guide take you there and enjoy swimming in all the pools. The water is clean and has the right temperature. It's a bit of a drive getting there, but certainly worth it. Take at least half a day and visit early (or late) to avoid the crowds. There's a restaurant on site.

Definitely magical place and we had such a great time. Felt like a little waterpark for us. Spectacular setting and great photos to Greenberger this place. So glad we came early before the crowds be we had the place to ourselves for 30 minutes before ppl started arriving! I would definitely combine it with Cascada Las Brisas!

The clear cool water was amazing! Went with our own guide Chay and he knew all the ins and out of the falls. Not crowded on a weekday and definitely recommend going here when in Oaxaca.

Place is Magical like the name says. Crystal clear water with gorgeous jungle views. from the parking lot there are several waterfalls getting bigger the higher you go. Pictures don’t do justice. Once at the top you can purchase refreshments and snacks- if you love waterfalls you cant miss this one. The way there is kind of hidden about an hour into the jungle from the coastal highway. There are a lot of motorcycles that are willing to take you there for a fee. Entrance fee is $100 pesos per person. Definitely coming back.

Attached to Ocotlan's lovely church, this art museum is ensconced in beautifully restored rooms. Many of the modern pieces were done by native son and philanthropist Rudolfo Morales. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy out-of-the-way places.

Ex convent is home today to the many art works of Rodolfo Morales. A native of Ocotlan, I enjoyed his many styles of drawings paintings pottery murals. Truly a master of his talent. I enjoyed the motif of seeing three dogs in many of his works. One of the three being yellow. As I continued visiting through out Oaxaca, my family couldn't help but notice every place we vistied. We would be great ed by a yellow dog. Rdolfo's house is also close by the ex convent.

Hierve el Agua is an ancient geological site that boasts towering rock formations resembling waterfalls, as well as natural pools and springs. Visitors are encouraged to bring their bathing suits in order to take a refreshing dip in the saltwater springs. A comfortable private transport is provided, along with delicious Oaxacan coffee for the two-hour journey to reach this unique destination.
What a fascinating natural phenomenon. And it looks recent, which is even stranger. I bet it looks different in 20 years. The water is not warm, but not cold. Room temp. I didn't swim, but I did take off my shoes and walk around. Be careful it is slippery. And there are NO fences. Nothing to prevent you from falling off. There are 2 main features to see, and you have to walk to the other side to see back. Definitely worth it, though not an easy hike. It has bathrooms and change rooms, plus a bunch of food and souvenir vendors up top. The walk down and back up is not that easy, especially if you go ALL the way down to the bottom of the formation. But if you are in the area, I highly recommend checking it out.
Laurin J — Google review
Nice water fall and natural springs inviting for the water. We spent half a day there, went for a little hike, jumped into the natural swimming pools and had a quick bite there. We tried also for the first time coconut with chilly, good memory… If you go for a hike make sure you bring sufficient water and sun protection. The hike goes up and down there is little shade, relatively step and it‘s helpful to wear good shoes.
Thomas F — Google review
Petrified waterfalls. Several of them as a matter of fact. Quite bizarre and frankly beautiful. Also some pools people frequently swim in. Not that warm. Lots of space to roam around to get different vantage points. Be careful as it can be a little slick in spots and there are few railings. Some designated trails to walk along, too. Look for the occasional agave plant. All of this nestled in a mountain range.
Duncan M — Google review
The vistas presented before you are truly breathtaking and a marvel to behold. Taking the time to appreciate the scenery will create lasting memories for you. Encountering one of the 2 Patricia waterfalls in the world. I highly recommend taking a tour, which offers a convenient and informative way to explore the remarkable sights. Doing so can enhance your overall experience, ensuring you don't miss any of the hidden gems. Ultimately, experiencing these views is an unforgettable experience.

I visited Monte Albán in Oaxaca and overall it was a nice experience, but there are a few things to know before going. The site was very crowded, which made it a little hard to enjoy some areas at my own pace. The water was extremely cold, and I am not sure if it was because so many people were inside, but it was not bubbly like the pictures or the name suggest. You also have to walk a bit to reach the main viewing areas, so be prepared for that. Nevertheless, it is still a beautiful place to visit. The views are stunning, the water has an amazing blue color, and the landscape makes the trip worth it. If you are in Oaxaca, it is still a spot I would recommend—just go with realistic expectations.
I C — Google review
It was pretty tough to get to by car but the view was amazing. The water was actually colder than I thought something like 19 degrees. Also hiking around the area was really cool.
Physio F — Google review
It's not as spectacular as Pamukkale in Turkey, but the view is still nice. The hike is a little steep in some sections but easy to go in general.
SH W — Google review
Such a beautiful place! These natural pools are created by termal water (not hot). There is a nice walk towards the panoramic point and a walk to the actual pools. There you can swim and take pictures! The water is fresh and so good on warm days! The mud is apparently good for your skin too! Very recommended spot to visit! Entrance costs 50 pesos per person. Plenty parking spot

Visiting the Jacobo and Maria Angeles alebrije workshop was one of the highlights of our trip! This place is a true gem, showcasing the incredible craftsmanship and artistry behind traditional Oaxacan alebrijes. The free tour through the workshop was fascinating, as we learned about the entire process, from carving to painting, to extracting colors from natural sources, and even the significance behind each design. The intricate details and vibrant colors of their work are awe-inspiring. The workshop is not only a place to see art but also to feel connected to the Zapotec culture and the symbolism woven into each piece. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable, eager to share insights into the history and traditions that make their alebrijes so unique. If you’re interested in folk art or simply want to experience authentic Oaxaca, this is a must-visit. Be prepared to leave with a deep appreciation for the artistry, and you might find yourself bringing home a piece (or two), like I did, to cherish! Each piece comes with a certificate of authenticity and description and meaning of the Zapotec hieroglyphs painted on the alebrijes. Our group was also lucky enough to have met Jacobo, whom was kind enough to sign my certificates. I will definitely visit again on my future trips and purchase a few more alebrijes for my collection.

We have a blast at the gallery, our tour guide was so gentle and explained every details of how does the alebrijes were made. We also didn’t make any reservations and the people in there were so kind to provide us the tour. We also appreciate that is pet friendly Amazing experience! 🫰🏼
Sandra M — Google review
We went on a very fascinating free tour here and found it very interesting. I enjoyed learning about how the different coloured paints are made, how the carving is done, and how the sanding and painting is done, and to see it all happening. At the end, we viewed the gallery with a whole bunch of completed works. The price points were quite significant here which seemed to match the quality, though I’m not sure how the prices compare to other workshops/stores selling similar works. Overall, I really enjoyed the afternoon trip out to go and visit this workshop.
Dan O — Google review
My two friends were skeptical about this alebrijes experience but they ended up loving the tour (highly educational) and gallery. The craftsmanship is exquisite and it’s easy to see why this shop is making a name for itself internationally. Yes the pieces are expensive but not unreasonable- you can find larger pieces that are almost as intricate/good for half the price at smaller family run shops in town. We ended up getting a piece from Jacobo and Maria plus a few pieces in town. A great experience over all.

Super One, also known as Mercado Tlacolula, is a renowned market in Oaxaca that takes place every Sunday. It is one of the oldest and largest weekly markets in the region, offering a wide variety of goods including food, household items, woven crafts, and alebrijes. Visitors are advised to be cautious of pickpockets due to the crowded nature of the market. Despite this, it is generally considered a safe and vibrant place to explore.
Amazing market with a little bit of everything you might need from food, household goods, woven crafts, and alebrije. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Oaxaca on a Sunday! Also be careful of pickpockets and keep your backpack in front of you. As per any crowded area, it's always good practice to have your phone and money tucked away safely (and not in your back pocket!). It felt safe to be there, but it's never fun to lose something.

01/15/2022, This place is amazingly beautiful are of Oaxaca. The name of the town is Tlacolula, Oaxaca. This place on Sunday it is so busy. However, we ended going on a Saturday. Regardless, I had a lot of fun meeting all the vendors. First, I had to do a stop to get a bite to eat were they sell goat and sheep soup and tacos. Unfortunately they were out of goat so, I had sheep soup/tacos. So, I may add, it was very delicious 😋. Oh my word, the flavor of the soup itself it was absolutely delicious add, cilantro, lemon, and shredded cabbage. I honestly had to ordera...lol My next stop same place there was an alley of sorted meats..I selected the meat I wanted with a slice of fat. So, how it works. You select the meat you want to be grilled...(fyi: you grill your own meat grills are provided for free). So anyway, before you select your meat, same area there are Oaxacans selling like your veggies you will need to add to your meats. As for us we avocados, onions, Anaheim chili aka..agua chilli. And, don't forget to buy your tortillas..unfortunately only corn tortillas are sold there...but, they are homemade. So, back to the meats. We were lucky bcs the lady cooked our meats. Afterwards we made tacos...see pictures...if you are ever visit Oaxaca. Make a trip to Tlacolula. Make sure you catch a cab by their baseballs station next to McDonald's..the red taxis that will say on the windshield Tlacolula. You looking at $3.00 to and from..it is worth it..take your appetite.

Nice marketplace where to find everything from the Oaxacan valley : chocolate, cocoa, mole, sarapes, huipiles... and cheaper than Oaxaca capital. To get there just take a shared cab or a bus (20pesos) straight to Tlacolula, the market is 2minutes walking away from the main road.

Walking around this traditional weaving village, you may feel overwhelmed by talent and beauty and choice. There are so many shops and artisans packed into such a small area. I was glad to have researched and located this studio where generations of family members are continuing the work of their ancestor... We were the only customers in low season on a rainy day, and we were were welcomed with warmth and generosity. We learned about the natural elements used to dye the yarn and got treated to a magic trick seeing how indigo can transform into a multitude of greens and blues. The rug patterns here were some of the finest, most precise designs we saw anywhere throughout Oaxaca. While it was a pressure-free environment, we could not walk out without purchasing a piece of their art - and meeting the gentleman who crafted it was extra special!

In May I returned to Oaxaca with my wife and introduced her to El Sabor Zapoteco. She loved it too! Reyna's class has inspired my cooking for the past 3 years. Recommend her class as a must do event.

As a professional chef working for more than half my life in food and taking loads of classes throughout the world, this was hands down one of the most authentic, educational and inspired experiences I have had. Reyna was the most gracious host and educator. She was able to share her own personal cooking journey while providing history of the ingredients, techniques and dishes. I would recommend this class to all ages so one can truly appreciate the work that goes into making food and learning about Zapotec traditions.

Wonderful experience with Chef Reyna going to her local neighborhood market and learning how to make mole using materials in her family home & kitchen. Part cooking class part experience being served by her and her very warm and kind family.

Wonderful experience with Reina and her family! By going to their village instead of taking a cooking class offered in Oaxaca, you're supporting little family businesses who are struggling with lower visitor numbers. VERY worth it! Reina and her family are very sweet and their open air cooking space is perfect! Learned how to make delicious Mole, from start to finish, following her mama's recipe. Plus some yummy accompanying dishes! Buying produce in the local village market is a very nice, truly local experience also.Very relaxed atmosphere.

We thoroughly enjoyed our market tour and cooking class with Reyna. She is warm, knowledgable and happy to share her traditions. We felt at home immediately upon arrival to her lovely open air kitchen. We really liked making and eating enchiladas with mole rojo. We highly recommend this experience.

We all loved the classes! The trip to the market to buy the ingredients necessary to make the planned recipes was a wonderful and informative experience. Preparing our menu was hands-on and lots of fun. Reyna did a great job of explaining and demonstrating the process. Then we got to eat it all!

I am a food blogger with more than a casual interest in how traditional foods are made, and I had a wonderful experience here learning to make Mole Negro, Stuffed Squash Blossoms, and other delicious foods. The whole experience was so unique and interesting, the instructor was so knowledgeable, and the food was delicious. Just can't say enough good things about the day I spent here!

Reyna and her family provided my husband and I a wonderful experience. Hands on instruction and a beautifully presented lunch. We plan on visiting her again and highly recommend her class. 💐

Mercado Benito Juárez is a bustling covered marketplace in Oaxaca City, offering a wide array of goods and local products. It's known for its vibrant atmosphere and diverse offerings, including produce, prepared foods, crafts, textiles, and folkloric fabrics. Adjacent to it is Mercado 20 de Noviembre, where you can find artisanal items like hand-crafted huaraches and elaborately embroidered blouses.
I was truly impressed by this market in Oaxaca City! It's a must-visit destination if you're in the area. I found a variety of souvenirs, hair and beauty products, delicious food, and drinks, and even bought new luggage for my trip. Highly recommended

Love it! If you are looking to buy mole paste to cook at home, this is the place. They also have a ton of artisan products like dresses, belts, and other things.

Eating here is one of the best food experiences in the world! You walk into the meat hall, grab a basket, and choose your meat package based on the number of people in your group. Then they grill it for you while the lady selling salsas and nopales finds you a table. It’s a whole experience — loud, lively, and totally worth it. Be patient; everyone’s shouting, but it’s part of the charm, and you won’t regret eating here. There’s a lot of smoke inside, so consider asking for a table away from the grill area if that bothers you.

It’s okie. A little crowded. There are so much better places to go than this though

A wonderful local Oaxacan market. I purchased some fruit, veg, chicken and beef here. There are lots of stalls and shops that include everything you need at much better prices and quality than the commercial supermarkets. All of the stall owners were friendly and helpful, highly reccomend a visit here. They also have some textiles and souvenirs.

Probably the best market in Oaxaca city centre as it offers both food and local goods. Mostly attended by locals, which is a good sign

Since its opening in 2008, the museum has been dedicated to showcasing a wide variety of textile techniques, materials, and designs from Oaxaca and around the world. Through cultural and educational activities, MTO aims to improve the lives of textile artisans within their communities.
Small, quaint, but it gave me a real respect for textile work and weavers. Beautiful building. All courtesy of the Harp Helu family!

Amazing free museum in Oaxaca. Good selection and some nice maps. A lot of potential in this museum. There is so much more to tell the audience (both in Spanish as in English). Also the shop could have some more information, great stuff, but more information will definitely sell more too. Will come back here for sure.
MUSEUM H — Google review
Really enjoyed this museum. It's a beautiful space, especially the courtyard with its stunning architectural details. The brickwork on the walls echoes the patterns found in traditional Oaxacan textiles, which was a thoughtful touch. That said, given Oaxaca’s deep roots in textile artistry, I was expecting a more expansive collection. Still worth the visit, but I left wishing there was more to explore
Ariel L — Google review
Small free museum with space for about 3 installations at a time. Upstairs had an interesting display on making latex garments and downstairs had textiles from around Oaxaca starting from approximately the 1940s that demonstrated different styles coming out of various communities

We were so fortunate to spend a week doing workshops in the Museum with a few different teachers; Natural dying and embroidery. The building is lovely, a historic architecture mixed with modern renovations. Free entrance to a great display of Indigenous textile crafts (small collection, only a few rooms) as well as a nice gift shop to purchase heirloom quality goods. Staff is all so friendly and welcoming! Good neighbourhood to walk around, lots of cute restaurants and other museums.
Cait T — Google review
This is a beautiful museum that features displays about the local culture and cultivation of fiber for the creation of textile. The key feature of the building is the architecture and the combination of modern construction. This is most evident in this interior courtyard where in modern glass and steel building is incorporated into a stone and break arch courtyard.

Zócalo Oaxaca, also known as Plaza de la Constitucion de Oaxaca, is a bustling public square at the historical center of downtown Oaxaca. Surrounded by historic buildings and vibrant cafes, it's a prime spot for people-watching and picking up souvenirs. The square is shaded by leafy trees, providing a relaxing place to cool off in the shade.
We visited the park on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The busiest day was Sunday. There was live music playing. And, many families gathered to enjoy the music. There are also several restaurants and vendors on the grounds. Also, there were a few parades that ended in the square... lively performances with beautiful costumes!

This is a great place to stroll through the historic center. Take a walk from Santo Domingo to the Cathedral at the Zocalo. You’ll find lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants along the walk. It is often beautifully adorned with decorations for holidays like Day of the Dead and Christmas. Also near Santo Domingo you’ll find artisan fairs during major celebrations like Semana Santa and Christmas. You’ll often see wedding calendar celebrations around Santo Domingo.

Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca, also known as Oaxaca Ethnological Gardens, is a meticulously curated space that showcases the rich diversity of local plant life in Oaxaca. Designed by artist Francisco Toledo and opened in 1998, this garden spans over 2.3 hectares and features hundreds of native plant species representing the flora of Oaxaca State.
The Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca is a beautiful and tranquil garden that offers a unique glimpse into the region's rich botanical and cultural heritage. Established to showcase the diverse native plants and their traditional uses by indigenous communities, the garden serves as both a botanical and ethnobotanical educational space. There was no entrance fee, which makes it an excellent value, though please note that there are no guided tours available at the moment—I'm not sure if this is a recent change. We spent about 30 minutes exploring the gardens, and it was a very enjoyable experience. The scenery is stunning, and considering it’s free, it’s definitely worth the time. Parking nearby was convenient as well. Overall, a lovely spot to relax, learn about Oaxaca’s indigenous flora, and appreciate nature.
Justin V — Google review
Not the traditional botanical garden experience - few labeled plants, wasn’t able to access most of the garden. Tours leave every 30 minutes, but mainly go to the Mexican fence post cactus area with Opuntia, give no interpretation and then run you out. Maybe it was an off day/season, but I definitely wouldn’t come here if your desire is to learn the plants of Oaxaca unless you set up a more formal botanical tour some how. Seems little active research going on as well
Damon T — Google review
Only a small part of the garden is open for visit, but the view is good. Follow the time that a guide is assigned, you may be able to discover a little bit of this garden which takes around 20 minutes. The tour only serves in Spanish.
SH W — Google review
Pretty space to walk around. It’s FREE! :) We did a 30min guided tour and unfortunately they didn’t let us stay to take photos long enough, felt very rushed. So if possible I’d recommend to walk around on your own (I dont know if they allow that though). The tour starts every 30 mins and is limited to around 30 people. If you dont want to wait in line until they let the next group in I recommend getting 10-15 mins earlier and get in line. :)

Excellente! Heart of Travel knows so well how to guide travelers to the beat hands on experiences, comida, mezcal, and of course the heart of Oaxaca - the generous, proud, and gentle people. Ask for Diego as your guide and you will have only good memories, the best education and the most fun. I plan to return at least once a year.

At the gate the security guard is rude. We walked here more than 7 times to enter. Today we arrive at the prescribed time on the sheet that the security guard points to. Today the same security guard asks us if we have an appointment. I utilize my translator to say you told us yesterday we do not need an appointment. She walks away mumbling no English. A woman comes and I ask her using my translator do we need an appointment? No you can enter now and wait for the start of the next group. We sat and waited and the group starts. We are told we can take photos but do not dell them. The guide who is NOT a guide is curt and not friendly. I use my translator at a 10 minute stop for people to take images. I ask how do the water canals work or how did they work? She says NO! I assume my translator failed so I retranslate using more simple sentences and ask again. She curly states that this is NOT a guided tour. When spanish speakers ask her questions she smiles🤷‍♀️. I then ask where can I find information or a book. She says they have books but I am not allowed to the books. We were only show maube 25% of the garden! Our first disappointment since moving here April 2025. Really big bummer doesnt matter if it is free.
Diana T — Google review
Peaceful and beautiful garden with several plants from Oaxaca region. The entrance is free but they let limited groups at set hours - normally every 30 minutes in the morning and only at 17:00 in the afternoon. Worth visiting

Free entry to a beautifully curated garden. Access only on specific days and hours. I was especially interested in this site, because on the roof of the nearby monastery a key scene of the 1983 movie "Under Fire" has been filmed (however, I couldn´t confirm this during the visit).

Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán is a historic complex in Oaxaca, Mexico, featuring a church with an opulent, gilded interior and a monastery turned museum. The temple is an example of baroque Hispanic architecture and has been the site of significant historical events. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Visitors can also explore the nearby Botanical Gardens to see a variety of plant species typical of the region.
Absolutely STUNNING and I have been to quite a few other churches/cathedrals in Puebla and Oaxaca and this one tops them all. I was only able to spend about 20 minutes looking around since we had gone to other local attractions but this was the highlight and so worth it. If you only have a short time in Oaxaca do yourself a favor and see this church.

The most beautiful church I have ever been to. It has ancient architecture with many meticulous details. If you come here, you will be overwhelmed by the grandeur of the church. Entrance is free and the church is open almost exclusively in the evening.

I have visited churches and cathedrals all over the world and this one is up there with one of the prettiest. The architecture and detail is nothing short of spectacular. One thing to note is that there will be people in there for prayer time so use manners, remember it is a sacred building, keep quiet and respectful... Highly recommend a visit and to sit for a while and listen to the prayers. It is free entry and we couldn’t find a donation tin but one may be available.

The Museum of Cultures of Oaxaca, Santo Domingo is a cultural center located in a 17th-century convent. It houses archaeological artifacts, ancient books, Spanish colonial artifacts, and artwork. The museum offers exhibits spanning various time periods such as ancient history, the Middle Ages, BC era, and prehistoric times. Visitors can also explore maritime history exhibitions and traditional wear and handicraft works. The central courtyard with a fountain provides an impressive backdrop for photos.
Wow, the museum itself does a great job telling local history from the first civilizations up to the modern era. However, the grounds are stunning. The building itself has been beautifully restored and is adjacent to a lovely garden. I would consider this a can’t-miss if visiting Oaxaca.

A MUST GO! The price was $100 MXN, you are able to pay with cash or card, it will take a few hours to see the place, but you have restrooms and places where you can sit, all the salon have all the info that you’ll need to understand about what they are talking about, be patient, the staff is really friendly to give you instructions and to help you. Please be respectful and enjoy this awesome museum.

The museum is housed in the former Convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán in Oaxaca de Juárez. It features 14 permanent exhibition halls and a number of thematic rooms, presenting over 10,000 years of history of the state of Oaxaca—from the earliest pre-Hispanic settlements and cultural florescence, through the Spanish conquest and colonial period, to modern day indigenous communal life. Highlights include the treasure from Tomb 7 at Monte Albán (gold, turquoise, coral), and displays on crafts, ethnography and contemporary indigenous culture. The building is architectural masterpiece of the viceregal era and forms part of a larger cultural complex that includes the ethnobotanical garden and a historic library.

A beautiful museum built within church grounds, it offers a detailed history of Oaxaca during the prehispanic, colonial and early 20th century times. There's a cover charge of $100 pesos however, Mexican citizens are allowed to enter at no cost, much show a valid voter ID or passport.

This museum is truly the best I have ever visited in my entire life. There are countless rooms, each filled with history, art, and culture. You need to take your time and explore every single one — each room tells a different story, and together they show how rich and beautiful Oaxaca’s heritage really is. If I ever return to Oaxaca and could only choose one place to visit, it would be this museum without hesitation. It is breathtaking, meaningful, and absolutely worth every minute you spend there.

Wonderful museum covering both pre-Colombian and colonial period. I went there primarily for the jewels found in Tomb 7 in Monte Alban, and these are spectacular. Particularly the stone vessels. But was surprised by the wealth of artefacts. Plus the building is stunning, with great views on the park

Musem is good to visit and spend 1-2 hour of exploring exibits. First floor offers some ceramic and wood art from local people and I think they change it from time to time. Second floor offers exibits from history, sadly there is no english translation under each exibit. Good thing price is 100 pessos per person. They charge extra 64 pessos if you have professional camera (they consider gopro as professional device). Architecture of this colonial building is fantastic, views are spectacular so you can enjoy here for several hours if you are not in hurry. Fountain in the middle is working and nice to see water splashing.
