I had an amazing time rafting the tampaón river with Ruta Huasteca. I have done quite some rafting before but this is one of the best rivers! Thank you to the Ruta team for making this such an outrageous experience!!!

We had an absolutely thrilling experience with Ruta Huasteca Expediciones on the River Rafting From start to finish, everything was well-organized, safe, and full of adventure. The guides and staff's were fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and made us feel completely safe while still keeping the adventure alive. The equipment was top-notch, and the safety briefing was thorough yet fun.

A Magical Family Adventure in La Huasteca Potosina by Ruta Huasteca Expeditions Our family trip to La Huasteca Potosina, expertly organized by Ruta Huasteca Expeditions, was nothing short of unforgettable. From the moment we boarded our convenient flight from Mexico City to Tampico, everything unfolded seamlessly. We were greeted at the airport with smooth transportation that took us straight to Ciudad Valles, where our stay at Casa Ortiz Boutique Hotel awaited. The hotel was well-located, with a warm, family-friendly atmosphere, and a daily breakfast that was absolutely delicious. Our family room was spacious, very comfortable, and ideal for relaxing after a day full of adventures. One thing that stood out about Ruta Huasteca Expeditions was their flexibility and attentiveness. Although the daily activities are only confirmed the night before, the guides were incredibly accommodating, making sure all our needs were met. Pickups were always punctual, and the vehicles were modern and well maintained, ensuring a smooth and safe ride to each destination. Each day brought a new, meticulously planned adventure. The guides were not only knowledgeable and fun, but also deeply responsible and genuinely caring. They made sure we felt safe, informed, and excited at all times—and their passion for the region was contagious. It’s worth noting that most of the activities require some basic trekking, swimming, walking on uneven terrain, and overall good mobility. While not extreme, the experiences are active and immersive, which made each moment even more rewarding. La Huasteca Potosina is truly a hidden gem—its landscapes feel straight out of a sci-fi movie, with rivers, waterfalls, and caves glowing in every imaginable shade of blue and turquoise. Every activity, while physically challenging, left us feeling accomplished, exhilarated, and more connected as a family. It’s an ideal destination for kids over 9—ours were completely unplugged, fully immersed in nature, and loving every minute. It’s important to know that this is not yet an international destination—and that’s exactly what makes it so authentic. More than 95% of the tourists are Mexican nationals, which adds to the charm and cultural richness of the experience. English speakers are very limited, so we recommend brushing up on some basic Spanish and keeping your translation apps handy. That said, you’ll find plenty of friendly, bilingual Mexicans—especially on tours—who are more than happy to help you out. Beyond the natural beauty, what makes La Huasteca so special is its unique culture, folklore, and spirit. This is not a polished resort town like Cabo—it’s something far more genuine. The local restaurants are simple, run by kind-hearted locals, and serve food that is both delicious and deeply rooted in the region’s traditions. Even during the high season, when it can get busy, the experience is still absolutely worth it. This isn’t just a vacation—it’s a true Mexican adventure. If you’re looking for something real, rich in culture, nature, and heart, La Huasteca Potosina is it. We came back home with incredible memories, a renewed love for Mexico, and the certainty that we’ll be back again soon.

*THE TOUR* We did the 3-day tour with Leon and Tavo. They came to pick us up every day, on time. They are certified tourism guides so they know how to tell a story, keep you entertained and safe. They are super professional and always looking after you, as well as great people. It's clear they work very hard! They encouraged us to get to know everyone on our tour and make friends. They also encouraged us to challenge ourselves with jumping and swimming. The activities themselves are unforgettable, the rafting on the Tampaón river to the Cascada de Tamul is a bit of effort, but worth it at the end for the view and blue. The puente de dios was beautiful, and Tavo really supported us to explore the area and have a lot of fun. El sótano de las huahuas is like nothing I've ever seen. To ascend, you hire and tip a local teenager volunteer to do the tour when you are there, and this was great to understand more about the local culture and their knowledge of their area. The bus journeys to and from the were even made fun with music and ice breakers, and regular stops to regular vendors for ice cream, cakes or drinks. *HOTEL* The hotel we stayed was Hotel Tamtokow in Ciudad Valles. It was a bit dated and we had a room without a window. I enjoyed the breakfast (choice of 3 things with eggs, plus coffee and fruit). Unfortunately, the hotel staff seemed inexperienced although friendly. It's central so that was handy. We took a taxi at night from the bus station which was $180 (pesos) and then a return in the day was $70. *FOOD* The food during the tour in Ciudad Valles and around wasn't always amazing, just okay. We had a great meal at the Xilitla Cervecería James (pictured). The only critiques are that the communication with the company is a bit slow and sometimes took days for a response. We also didn't know the tour we were doing until the night before and we'd have liked more notice to prepare. They take photos of you with a waterproof camera which sometimes gets a bit annoying, it would also be nice to know how much the photos are ($700) before they take them. They also sent them 3+ weeks after. Overall, we had the best time on this tour, and we highly recommend it! Thanks so much again.

An amazing day. We did rafting with Poncho and he was a great guide. Best tours in the area

My husband and I had a wonderful time exploring Huasteca Potosina with Ruta Expediciones. We did four guided tours with them in Spanish; however, you can schedule in advance to have an English tour. All the guides were dedicated to making sure that everyone had a safe and memorable experience. The guides Leon and Melecio shared their knowledge of the towns and ecological sites we visited. Gady made sure we were always having fun with competitions and team-building challenges. When we needed a little motivation to keep rowing , Josuè had us singing and laughing along with him. Finally, David took the time to get to know each of the guests, asking about their interests and backgrounds. We got to each of the destinations safely thanks to Juanito's impressive driving skills. We also want to thank coordinator and problem-solver extraordinaire Andrea for helping us book our tours and finding a driver to get us to our group when we had missed the pick up time.

Alicia at the office speaks good English and is very helpful. They were able to accommodate our requests easily. Their guides are very knowledgeable and the tours are a lot of fun too!

Nature & Parks
Huasteca Potosina Tours offer specific English-speaking tours at 10 am and 3 pm, which can be purchased online in advance. The place is described as magical, with stunning waterfalls and mesmerizing blue rivers that make it a must-visit for a couple of days. It's recommended to have your own transportation due to high season crowds. The area is hot and humid with mosquitoes, so bringing repellent is advised.
A magical place to visit! The waterfalls and the amazing blue water of the rivers are really something’s special! Make sure to plan to stay for a couple of days. It’s best to have your own transportation as it gets crowded at the beautiful spots in high season judging from the photos. I was there in mid October 2022 and had some of the places almost for myself in the mornings The place is hot and humid and hat quite some mosquitoes when I was there so make sure to bring your repellent along.

I decided to book the 4 day pack. It was perfect. Amazing price (about $350). This included the hotel quinta mar (which was a great place), included the breakfast tickets to eat at the hotel (actual big plates of food, not just your low continental breakfast), also included a meal at the end of the day after every tour (every place the guides take you is amazing food), the entrance fee for every "park" you book, transportation in comfy vans with ac (they pick you up and drop you off at the hotel), and all this on top of amazing guides that's know it all. Our guides were Pepe (he went above and beyond, our favorite), Juan (went beyond and was awesome), David (amazing and super friendly), and Wilbur? (He also was great). Then the person that helped me get the process done, Tania, she was amazing and helpful through the whole process. For paying the 20% down, I just went to an oxxo and did the transfer. It was super easy and tool like 3 min. Don't feel sketch about it.

This place is magical!! The pictures cannot do it the justice it deserves. It can get crowded, but try and find a spot where you can enjoy the incredible waterfalls, the lush scenery, and get back in touch with your spiritual side. The water is refreshingingly clear. The locals are all incredibly welcoming and friendly. Definitely try the pulque!! It is a very unique drink.

We had the most incredible five day tour with these guys. I can’t rate them enough. They also recommended accomadation and we stayed in the most incredible Selva teenek an eco park who rescue and realise wild animals. We would not of known about this unless it was for these guys. Staying here made the whole week a very special memory for us. we took part in rafting, rappelling, jumping into waterfalls and visiting Edward James garden, which has been on my bucket list for a while and did not disappoint. The food is also really good a very authentic. Book any tour with them I am fairly certain you won’t be disappointed. Thankyou so much Emily and Spencer

We spent three days with top notch tour guides in the magical Huasteca Potosina. We did it all - waterfalls, gardens, little towns... But we missed a few things so we will have to come back for rappelling, rafting and waterfall jumping. Wonderful experience with generous new friends and welcoming staff. When can I come back!??
Deanne M — Google review
Great experience. All the guides (we had a different one every day) were extremely knowledgeable and sociable. Even with some of the longer van rides, all the guides made the time fly. You can tell each activity/day is well planned, with built in time for questions, snacks, and meals (included in price). You also get picked up and dropped off at your hotel everyday. The activities we did were Xilitlan/Sótano de las Huahuas, rafting, and rappelling.

Very good service. Very friendly, and knowledgeable guides. Very good level of safety for adventurous activities.

The White Water Rafting experience was fantastic. The crew we had was phenomenal; they made sure everyone understood the safety procedures and made sure we had a good time. I would recommend this for someone looking for a nice easy rafting trip. (They were class 3 when we rafted).

I had so much fun on this trip!!! The staff members were amazing and helped us with everything we ever needed. They made sure we were having fun and everything was taken care of. They picked us up from the Hotel, provided us delicious snacks and food at a restaurant. I love all the waterfalls they took us too! All safety gear was provided and they made sure we were safe at all times, I will never forget this experience. I am already trying to plan my next trip as soon as possible lol. Pricing was very affordable comparing to other agencies and companies I've seen. Thanks again to the awesome customer service and friendly staff members!!

Cascadas de Micos

Tours
Hiking area
Water Sports
Rappelling, canyoning & swimming in waterfalls & clear-water pools linked by a hiking trail.
Entry fee cost: $100 peso Includes entry, parking, and life jacket. The area is very pretty. You can climb up several tiers of waterfalls all the way up to the hydroelectric power plant. Then you can jump off all the waterfalls in the way down.
Dan K — Google review
Would of been 5 stars but we didn't get to swim like we were originally told we would. Very beautiful.
Crystal S — Google review
Parking was free, pay 40 pesos per person to enter, walk about 10 minutes down to river. Don't bring anything but pesos with you, and towels. Then pay 180 pesos each for jumping and swimming down the river/waterfalls. We didn't ask about the other activities. On the plus side, the guided take pictures and send them via WhatsApp and this is included in the 180 pesos :) The experience was awesome. I didn't like how you must pay to get to the river and then pay for activities, and that once you pay you need to return everything to your car because there isn't a secure way to store anything down at the river, nor that after they issue your helmet and life preserver you must walk up stairs to reach the road and walk further up the road ... but jumping the waterfalls and floating/swimming the cold river was a very enjoyable experience. There is food sold, tasted good, and coffee plus other beverages. Before you enter there are many water shoes and clothes for sale, as well as tourist stuff.
Beckett P — Google review
Beautiful , cooling waterfalls. Prepare your self by bring all necessary items . Drinks , snacks, water shoes . These are just a few necessities you might need or you will end paying a high price from the small vendors .
Brown L — Google review
Absolutely stunning. I went with my family and it did not disappoint. It's easy to spend a whole day here and enjoy the scenery. While it does cost a few pesos to swim (you need a life jacket to swim by the waterfall), it's worth every peso to swim and explore this beautiful landscape. The tourist shops are also very worth it as well, selling waterproof cases for your phone (with straps to not lose it!), coffee bean earrings, handmade goods, pet toys, and souvenirs galore, it's a wonder that this place isn't more popular. Truly a hidden gem. (Also, if you're planning to go here, bring your own toilet paper! This is common in Mexico, but if you want toilet paper here, it costs a few extra pesos that you could save.)
Cassie H — Google review
The admission is very affordable. You can take your own food or there are plenty of vendors. If you want to swim at the head of the park, signs everywhere says you have to have a life vest. Great place for camping or a visit. The entrance road is pretty rough, but as all things in Mexico, this may change tomorrow.
Jerry — Google review
Not sure if this is worth going to if you're not doing some sort of water/tour group activity here as well. It's definitely beautiful, don't get me wrong, I just think other waterfalls/sites around the region are more worth your time if you have a tight schedule.
Osula L — Google review
Super fun! I definitely recommend very beautiful area to relax or if you’re looking for an adventure try the waterfall jumping tour for 200 pesos per person. Take your phone in a water proof bag or waterproof camera. Water shoes are necessary for all of the parks in this area so it’s worth buying. I recommend you spend the night at the cabin around the corner selva teenek! It’s five minutes away. If you only have a few days to enjoy la huasteca I would go to Tamasopo and puente de Dios the day after.

Las Pozas

Mentioned on
+19 other lists
Art museum
Nature & Parks
Las Pozas is a surreal and whimsical sculpture garden located in the Huasteca Potosina jungle near the village of Xilitla in Mexico. Created by 20th-century art patron Edward James, this jungle paradise features towering sculptures, bizarre concrete platforms, and stairs that lead nowhere amidst lush foliage and waterfalls. The gardens were designed with influences from Edward's travels around the world, making it a monument to his imagination and brilliance.
A visionary jungle dream come to life How do you even begin to imagine building massive, “unfinished” and seemingly “useless” concrete structures in the middle of a lush Mexican jungle? You’d have to be a wildly imaginative—and extravagantly wealthy—visionary like Edward James. Fueled by his surrealist spirit (and perhaps some chemical inspiration), he created something truly unique: Las Pozas, a garden where fantasy and nature entwine. Thanks to his unconventional mind, we can now wander through giant stairways to nowhere, sculpted flowers of stone, and poetic ruins that invite awe at every turn. As Francis Bacon said, “The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery.” This place does exactly that. Note: only guided tours, advance booking is advisable
Valentina ( — Google review
Be prepared to walk a lot, so many stairs. I like this place is definitely unique, a great experience, I just feel like I didn't see anything amazing, I was expecting more. Tour guides are great, they know so much and make the tour fun and interesting. Entrance is cheap, and it is better to buy tickets online because alot of people visit this place.
Mine J — Google review
At the beginning the experience was not pleasant because of the price but it was worth it! Every penny. We had a tour guide in English and our group was very small so we enjoyed it the better. I highly recommend to visit in small groups.
Virginia T — Google review
An exceptional, awe-inspiring and unforgettable experience. I’m so happy this place exists. A reminder of the boundless nature of human creativity.
Sarah B — Google review
You have to make your reservation a couple of days before you go and once you are in to have to pay for the guide. There isn’t any other option but the guide we had was wonderful I really enjoyed every bit of was she explained. The view are beautiful and everything is so vibrant.
Tiffany S — Google review
We did the immersion tour where you arrive an hour before they open and you pay a lot more for your tour. It's definitely a great way to see the gardens because now a days you can't wander around on your own. You always have to be escorted while you're here but the tour gives you a more intimate view. It's highly recommended if a bit pricey. Yes, a visit is definitely worth it and yes, you should visit but keep an open mind. Wonderful place.
Eitan F — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking. Stunning buildings and the waterfall was beautiful. Definitely a must-see if you’re visiting Xilitla. 5/5 stars
Luke C — Google review
***Amazing*** We have so much fun, this place is simply amazing. We went in March and it wasn't that hot. I saw many comments before about the heat and humidity. Neither of those were issues for us. Because of the drought that was affecting the entire world on the time of my visit, there was very little water and some pozas were completely dried. Hope that when you visit the park will have more water ... Even with lack of water, I do recommend this place. The views and drive leading up to the park were breathtaking 🤩

The Cascadas de Minas Viejas is a remarkable natural attraction located 78km northwest of Ciudad Valles. The site boasts a stunning waterfall with a 55m drop that cascades into an enchanting aquamarine pool, surrounded by trees that add to the picturesque scenery. Additionally, there are numerous smaller waterfalls and pools dropping over terraces, making it popular among adventure groups for jumping activities.
Fantastic experience! Family oriented and full of adventure. Make sure you take your water shoes, too slippery for flip flops or sandals. About $30 pesos (less than $2 USD) for adults and $15 for kids. You can bring your own picnics.
Cynthia C — Google review
Cascadas minas viejas has two main areas one where the waterfall is. You are able to swim, dive, climb up the waterfall and take a plunge. The second area you are able to jump and swim it has more shade There are stairs (down) that take you to the waterfall. Along a part of the stairs there are shops to buy souvenirs. Lifejacket is not optional.

Definitely need to check this place out. It's very easy to drive to and there's no hike to get to the waterfall. The waters and the trees around it look enchanted. It's so beautiful.

Here is something I haven't seen I'm the reviews . You don't need a tour Google map it and it will take you there . Entrance is $60 pesos each and parking is $40 pesos. The road to get to Minas Viejas is loaded with potholes . Be very cautious when traveling on these roads . If you decide to use a rental car get the wheel coverage you will bang up the car is your not careful .Now thats out of the way .A very beautiful majestic place . Amazing scenice views for pics .

Geologic Formations
Cave of Swallows, also known as Sotano de las Golondrinas, is a natural wonder located in the El Pueblo Magico de Aquismon in the Huasteca Potosina region. The name Aquismon means "tree at the foot of a well" in Huasteco, likely referring to this impressive cave. Visitors are advised to come prepared with comfortable shoes and water, especially for the descent down numerous steps.
Recommend to take comfortable shoes, water, or something to support your back if you have back problems. I loved it, you have to go down a lot of steps, there are stations where you can buy water, or they let you borrow a cane! Depending on the weather, rocks can be slippery, make sure you take slip resistant shoes. Note: don't forget to leave a little something for the volunteers. Couple of pesos! They are out there making sure you stay safe!

The elliptical mouth, in a karst slope, is 49 by 62 m (154 by 200 ft) wide and is undercut around its entire perimeter, widening into a room approximately 303 by 135 metres (994 by 442 ft) wide. The cave floor is a free fall of 333 metres (1,092 ft) from the lower side of the opening, with a drop of 370 metres (1,214 ft) from the higher side, making it the largest known cave shaft in the world, the second deepest shaft in Mexico, and perhaps the 11th deepest fall in the world. Lists of deepest caves use different criteria, not pure drop, but accessibility. The floor and walls of the cave are inhabited by millipedes, scorpions, insects, snakes and birds. From the floor at the bottom of the main shaft there is a series of narrow shafts known as "The Crevice", totaling about 140 m (460 ft), which brings the total depth of the cave to 515 m (1,690 ft).

Locals warn you about the 700 steps to go down and climb back. But it’s easy and safe. I saw many seniors going down and up with their families or couples. Make sure to be there a little before 5:30 pm if you go in the afternoon. Bring water and comfortable and good tennis or hike shoes. There’s no comfortable place to sit, but it’s ok, remember you are in a natural spot, not in the movies! Enjoy this unique place and wonder of nature. Locals are doing a great job to make the experience safe, comfortable and organized. Be respectful to them and the basic rules.

Make sure early enough to watch this natural phenomenon. The birds start waking up at dawn and within 30 minutes most of them have flown away. Allow 20 minutes to reach the viewing point from the parking lot (it’s steep and dark, but there are steps).

The best experience of my life! You can't miss it. We stayed about 5 mins from the entrance, consider 30 mins to get to the parking area, then you cross the entrance by foot and go down about 500 stairs, make you sure you are there before 7 am, which is the time the swallows started to leave the cave. We saw about 1 millions beautiful swallows, fly in circles! And also if you stay quite you will see small green parrots flying around, they all flew above us. This lasts about 1 hour. Make sure you ask about the scheduling before you go, as swallows leave at different times, depending on the weather. You can also see them in the afternoon, about 4pm. Its a long way down, but totally worth it!

One of the most amazing places I've visited. Of course you need to be there just before sunrise and wait till the birds swirl out, or before sunset. Standing at the border and the birds "falling into the pit" just not touching you is amazing. The surroundings are astonishingly beautiful as well.

Cascada de Tamul

The largest waterfall in the state of Huasteca Potosinas is Cascada de Tamul, which stands at 344 feet and features a cenote. Its location in a forested canyon creates a stunning and breathtaking setting for visitors to enjoy. Accessible by either hiking or boat tour, this attraction provides an opportunity for adventure and exercise. The trip includes a visit to a small waterfall and cenote where one can swim.
The Tamul waterfull has to be one of the most breathtaking places to visit in all of Mexico. This past Sunday (10/13/204l drove from San Luis Potosi via the toll road, and it took about 3 hrs 45 minutes to ge there. Below are some pro tips! 1. Decide if you want to canoe to the waterfall or hike to it before you get to the entrance. 2. If you canoe, ask about the strength of the current, as it's a 4 km ride and your rowing against the rivers current. 3. If you're afraid of the water or whitewaters don't canoe. Though not often, there have been instances where the canoe flips over or sinks and people need to swim to the side of the river, empty the canoe, and keep pushing through. 4. If you hike know 3 things: a. You can hike to the overview but will still have to cross the river via a canoe to start your hike.. b. If you want to hike to the base, there's some perilous stairs/ladders you'll have to climb down/up. If you're afraid of heights, this could prevent you from doing that. c. If you want to dip in the water, you don't need to climb down to the basin. 5. You can't do this alone. You'll need to hire someone at the entrance, and they'll drive to where the journey begins. We paid $1000 pesos for 2 people. Which included transportation to the base via their car (not recommended to drive your rental) and the additional gate tickets to get to the base. The guides were super nice and don't make a lot of money. We did go in technically low season, which is why maybe the price was that, but my point is, don't be cheap and remember to tip. The total trip to hike is about 3 to 4 hrs depending on how much time to spend dipping your body in the water and at the base resting and taking pics! I hope you enjoy it! 🇲🇽

Lots of fun! Hard work too. There’s a four kilometer paddle up the river to get to the waterfall. But it’s worth it!! The whole tour takes about four hours.

Impressing waterfall. A short walk via two steep stairs to the base for a magical view. We were the only ones. Great swim on top of the waterfall right at the edge.

Speechless. If youre seeking a connection w/ Nature (animals, mother nature), Culture (food, souvenirs), and History (tour guides). Highly recommend asking for Benjamin (Benja) or el “pollo”. Don’t know his name since everyone goes by nicknames.

Boat trip was a great experience. You have water fights with all the other boats you meet. Be prepared for there not to be much water in the waterfall because of the lack of rain.
Sarah C — Google review
As everyone is explaining the two options. We took the boat paddling one and we are glad the way it turned out. We had to pay 10 pesos per person as parking for the car and 200 pesos for boat ride. Even when my kid was small, still he was charged which makes total sense. It is fun with water fight on the way and the option to swim in the cave. The total duration for the ride is 3 hours , can be more or slightly less based on the team you are paddling with. Incase flow of water is high you will have to get down from the boat and walk on the sides because while going you are driving against the water. There is no problem for food or water it is available at each point. There is place to change your wet clothes. Although for toilets you will have to walk 100 meters. People were super helpful as they explained everything in detail. Better to carry a water protector cover for your cellphone because there is a high chance it will get wet. There are shops selling it there also.

Beautiful place in SLP, one of many tours they have available in the near town Valles. Be prepared for some arm work out, walking and fun. You need river shoes , lots of sunscreen before the tour , water proof cover for cellphone or camera , cash and a positive open minded attitude. It’s a nice experience, if you have the opportunity to visit. ☀️☀️

A MUST see! You have to drive 5 km off a dirt road to get there. On the way there a bunch of kids stopped us, took down the driver's name and how many passengers were with him, where we were coming from, and made us tip them (still not sure what happened there). After a couple km of the dirt road, we came to a gate where we had to pay a MXN$20 toll to a young lady who was manning it (for her family from what it seemed like). Told us (in Spanish) that we'd come to a three-way fork on the road and to take the one on the far right. There was another gate after that and if it's closed she said you can just open it. We kept following the dirt road until our Google Maps stops, then made a left (like the lady to us to). We went along the river for a bit and came to a parking lot. We stopped where there were signs listing the prices of entry for the waterfall. MXN$30 per person, MXN$20 per car, and restrooms were MXN$5. The hike takes you to a spot where you can take a dip at the top of the waterfall or you can climb down the stairs/ladder to the bottom of the waterfall and see the spectacular view from below. Definitely go to the bottom and get close to the waterfall. It's gorgeous.

What an incredible place, it is a little of a drive to get in there but once there everything is nice because they have all you need inside, parking, food options, bathrooms, lifeguards vests... It is well mantained, and the water is so clear. It is a great place to spend time with friends and family. Highly recommended. I went on a Friday and it was not as crowded.

What a fun place! I wish I had had my kids with me, they would have loved it. With a tour group, but we all had fun anyway. So many pools and areas to wade or swim or splash around in. Diving platforms and rope swings and obstacle courses for the more adventurous. Very hot, though, we were there in Sept and it was probably 35C and sunny. Water was perfect temp, maybe 23C or so. Cool and refreshing and perfect on a hot day. Lots of places to eat or grab a drink, lots of washrooms. My only caution is water shoes. YOU WILL NEED THEM. I have feet like a Hobbit, and thought I'd be fine. Wrong. All of the water areas are rocky and hard on the feet. And many slippery areas the shoes help with. When you see the guy outside the park offering water shoes for 90 pesos, buy them. Inside the park they cost 200 pesos.

I love this place is like a little piece of paradise, plany of low places for my kids to play and swim and lots of deep places for the grown-ups,restrooms are nice and clean, have lockers that you can rent to put all you stuff, food is delicious (little pricey) but u can take sandwiches or something already made. can't take ice chest but we leave ours in the car and just make a trip to get some drinks everybody love it ,make sure to have plenty of battery in you phone you will want to take lots of pictures.

What an awesome experience to see the natural waterfalls, swims in the pools and dive into the waters. The natural beauty of Mexico greatly surpasses any man made experience. Prices inside the cascades for food were very reasonable compared to the Rivera Maya.

We stayed here 2 nights to camp out in our Van. 100 pesos a person , it was 2 of us so 400 pesos to stay here, it has a pool that is filled up daily by the water from the river showers and restrooms, electricity ,wifi included. For 30 pesos you can go next door to a different camp site that has a river and the cascadas de Tamasopo are about 12 minute walk ! We had a wonderful time.

Very beautiful but water shoes are a MUST! Don't forget the sunscreen. Lockers are 30 pesos and a depsit of 200 pesos which is roughly $12 US dollars, showers and changing rooms are clean, available and free of charge. Food and beverages are available at cost.

Upon arrival, you’ll find various parking options and vendors offering food and water gear.

Due to the high amount of rain, you couldn’t access all of parts you normally would be able to. We did go to the puente de dios but the curtain was very heavy good thing they have lifeguards that are there to help you if you don’t know how to swim. The is also a lot of life vest you can rent before you get to the park.

Such a beautiful place to visit! There had been a lot of rain and the river was flooding so we couldn't swim. Normally the water is clear blue. Still a beautiful place to visit. There is a decent hike done stairs (and then back up) so make sure you're up for it.

Puente de Dios is an a beautiful waterfall and a must see destination when visiting the Huasteca Potosina. Please be aware that there are about 308 (down) to get to the waterfall. About 3/4 of the way you may or may not find people selling water. It is not recommended to bring down hats as once you get down into the water area there is shade and a naturally lighted tunel. There are ropes to help you move from one spot to another. Water life jacket is not optional in the area. Cost is around $150 pesos, if your with a tour most guides include the vest. Tonel Huasteca Oficial from Facebook does include them.
Anaid G — Google review
Awesome adventure if your going through Sierra Gorda. Easy drive with about 15 minutes of it being “off road” on a narrow bumpy road. Once you get there you have a few options for parking and plenty of spots to buy food or water related apparel. You pay for guide who speaks solely in Spanish so be prepared for that. We loved our guide and learned a lot during our hike. It’s a beautiful place and once you get to the end there is a cave with a natural spring waterfall that is truly refreshing. Bring water shoes if you come during the rainy season and bring a towel/water shoes if you plan on swimming. Would do it again in a heart beat!

Entry fee cost: $70 pesos Parking: $20 ( But there are multiple lots that might have different prices) Life jacket rental: $30 ( But there are multiple people renting life jackets that might have different prices) Super beautiful place. I would go back. The water was very comfortable even when there is no sun shining into the pool. There is a great cliff to jump from, cave to swim through, waterfall to swim behind and jump into, and a lot off cool things to look at. Life guards on duty.

From the videos and reviews that I have seen and read, they make little justice. First, the place is ENORMOUS. You really can't capture it until you see it for yourself. From outside one can't tell. There's many patios and places to explore. Everything is kept extremely clean, quiet, serene, just beautiful. To top it all a fresh clean breeze runs constantly. And this is just the outside. MUST SEE MUST VISIT.

This is a great zoo! We got the tickets that included the safari, which I enjoyed. The zoo is well laid out and I love the areas where you can get close to the animals. It’s nice to see them roaming around freely :) They have a nice variety of species and some I’ve never seen before. I also loved feeding the giraffes as they are one of my favorite animals!

We came at a weird time, early during the day on Halloween - so everything seem to be prepared for a Halloween haint experience and even without going for that it was still awesome! Highly recommend visiting! I er can be tricky to get out to the zoo....so plan Accordingly when you want to leave.

Great zoo for a first timer! Took our 6 year old here while in Leon for a fútbol tournament. It was his first time and it was a great option. The zoo is not too large or too small. It was a good 3-4 hrs of walking around and taking our time. The animal exhibits are small and the animals weren’t very active but our son had a fun time seeing them up close. The safari ride was fun but not worth the purchase of the package, the package did NOT include everything. Still had to purchase experiences throughout the park. The do not sell anything but soda and water. Tacos near the giraffes are AMAZING!!!!!

Nice family place. No where does it have a smooth walkway for handicapped folks to navigate on thier own. Lines were long but went quick. You pay for parking. There are no ATMs close by. You can purchase tickets with a credit ir debit card.
Eric G — Google review
Needs to be taken care of and redeveloped. The cages were too small (the racoon alone in literally a box broke my heart) especially considering that there is so much space left unused or dedicated to pic-nics and games. The priority for a zoo should be giving animales care and space, not giving people a random park to eat out. The place seemed pretty dirty and old as well... which is a shame because they have beautiful and rare species (tigers were amazing). It really needs maintenance and a plan to rebuild and distribute space better. Please, visit it and pay your tickets, they really need contribution to redevelop things and invest in serious care, cleaning and restoring spaces. I beg the administration of the park to think of the animals first! Children can go pic-nicking somewhere else; families can go play somewhere else... they have a choice; the animals you keep do not have a choice. Please, give them more space.
Virginia C — Google review

One of its standout features is the beautiful aquarium, which adds a unique touch to your visit.
Nice shipping place. We enjoyed the aquarium.

Really nice mall. Great views and location. Food court was clean, but the food was horrible. We ate Chinese and threw it out.

This is just like any other mall but they do have an aquarium which is awesome. There is so many clothing stores here and food choices. I prefer the Argentine streak place put front. Also I have been told some of the stores are a bunch of fake name brand items but I have no way to confirm. If you have time to spare might as well check this out.

The mall is very nice. There is a good selection of stores and at the food court. It's nice that they have pet friendly zone, the aquarium, and other family areas. Wish they took off or lowered their parking fees.

We went with our little ones and they have a lot of fun at Recorcholis that is like an Arcade where they can play video games, bowling, get on some rides but only for little ones, and there is an area for children up to 80 cm like 31.4 inches or 2 ft and 7.4 inches, and since this pandemic times only allow no more that 8 kids inside that area. As the rest of the place It wasn't crowded and they sanitized quite often. So we felt pretty safe. And we went to get a meal too at Hot Wings, they only accept also a limited group of people. It has kids menu. The food was good and beer was cold and the waiter was nice and efficient. We took our stroller but I think they need someone who watches the elevator, sometimes, we needed to wait longer to use the elevator because some people didn't wanted to use the electrical stairs and they seemed to be perfect to get on the electrical stairs. Now they allow to pregnant and little kids to go inside the mall only using mask face and it is mandatory and they will put you antibacterial gel. So I hope next time I will visit, the elevator has some vigilant that watches peoples like pregnant women, elderly and wheelchair users as well families with strollers are using the elevator instead of strong people who can use the electrical stairs. As the rest of the mall, they sanitize often and they offer antibacterial gel almost everywhere. So feel safe but If is too crowded better don't stay to long as we did. Be safe!

And, I find really awesome that it has a big space to walk around and take great photos. If you like renaissance a-like places, you will love this place. I think this is the right and first location you should visit when starting your tour in León, Guanajuato, not only due to it’s greatness, but also because you can rent a bicycle from there and, with an app, you’ll be guided through the city for an hour. Mundo A

Temporarily Closed
Water park
Water & Amusement Parks
Mundo A is an excellent destination to escape the summer heat. The water temperature was not overly cold, contrary to some reviews that stated otherwise. While compared to American water parks it may be slightly cooler, it still provided a refreshing experience. However, there were a few downsides such as certain attractive slides being closed and the wave pool lacking impressive waves.
This place is amazing. We had a great time at minimal cost. There is a store on site for those last minute necessities, as well as a food shack - or you can bring in your own picnic. The prices are all around economical. The staff are super friendly and helpful. From very young child to older adult, you will have a great time. The water slides are awesome!
Javier O — Google review
Great spot to beat the summer heat. Water was not too cold (other reviews I've read said the water was cold -- compared to American water parks, it's the same. Compared to some other hot-springs-fed water parks it is cooler, but it felt very good and refreshing to me). My only complaints would be that several of the coolest looking slides were not open and the wave pool had pretty anemic looking waves. The only food options I saw were packaged foods like chips and candy; they did have beer, pop and water but no fresh hot food that I could see. Other than that, great spot. We went on a Saturday when it was 85F and it was not crowded and easy to get a table in the shade. Cost was 95 pesos per person, and 40 pesos to rent a two-person tobogan for the day which I recommend!

This water park has good location, it does have a few problems number 1 water is very cold so if you're ok with cold water dip in! The women's restrooms were very dirty other than that it has nice installations and parking is ok also, they play good music one pool area as well also you can't take alcoholic beverages in they'll make you leave them at the gate but you can purchase alcohol inside.

Ome of the best places to just have a chill moment and be in touch with the culture of AGS. Every Sunday you can find stands of different people selling fruits, food, and a variety of products. Is also a greater place to spend time with your familia and kids. I love that is one of the few places where you can find that many trees.

Very nice place to view old classic trains. If you take the kiddy train tour, you can learn about the location and the train they have. They also have a museum but we left a little early and didn't go inside. It's a nice relaxing place.
Arturo R — Google review
Probably the most photographeable spot in town. It has gorgeous buildings from an old train station complex built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This complex includes museum, park areas, fountains, fast food, real ancient trains, etc. But the place lacks of activities all around the place that engage the visitors or heritage inside its historical buildings. Anyways... This is an obligated stop in town.

National Museum of Death

Specialty Museums
The National Museum of Death, located in Aguascalientes, offers a distinctive perspective on the concept of death. It presents various representations and images related to Mexican traditions and beliefs about death. The museum showcases a diverse collection inherited from Mexican painter Octavio Bajonero Gil, featuring traditional and contemporary manifestations of death such as papel picado and sugar skulls.
The best musuem of this kind, about death, skulls, corpses, graves, momias, ghosts, vampires, killers, tortures. They have bones and skulls, so much art displays, pictures, sculptures, ceramic, masks, figurines real size and miniature, interactive. I didn’t expect that I could spend 2 hours wandering there. Besides it’s a very Antigua building. It's a gem, must visit.
Connie W — Google review
Death becomes us. The National Museum of Death located in downtown Aguascalientes is a must visit. First of all, its free. Secondly, the collections are amazing. Sugar skulls, to film, to print to MesoAmerica artifacts to paintings and drawings. There was even a special event today that we got to partake in. The gift shop was closed but overall a great way to beat the heat and see how Mexico embraces death.
Charles F — Google review
This museum is like Dr. Who's TARDIS, much bigger inside than it looks on the outside. There are many sections with tons of fascinating artifacts and artwork. Just when you think you've seen everything, you find more galleries. My favorite was the pre-Colombian room, wish they had more of those ancient artifacts actually.
Casey — Google review
The first experience is to walk (carefully) down a dim staircase to a sort of catacomb, which sets a tone for the entire museum, and where one gets a sense of the archeological finds in Mexico. The above-ground galleries feature various art media and cultural artifacts related to death, the devil, angels, and the afterlife. The art evokes multiple adjectives: striking, provocative, humorous, troubling. The totality can be overwhelming; I do wish there were benches in the galleries to allow a visitor some time to sit and reflect a few moments or just to clear one's mental palate for the next room.
Sissima S — Google review
A necessary visit to understand the relationship of Mexicans with Death. Numerous objects collected from different time. Some panels explaining what were/are the beliefs about Death. Some analysis of the treatment of Deaths in newspapers. You will see many skulls and many representations of the Death. It did relax my view on the matter.
Xavier P — Google review
Highly recommend to visit this wonderful museum near centro if you have the time. It's filled with beautiful art spanning hundreds of years. The folks who work there are helpful and kind as well.

As Mexicans we are pretty aware of death, we embrace it, we celebrate not death perse, but life to live and death as a final stage of our existence on this world.Athos museum is certainly a collection of feelings, life stories and people portayed through history, definitely a place to visit and envision the art and work from Aguascalientes and Mexico. I'm putting 4 stars as there is no English translations on the articles.

You have to love this church it has so many loyal people that come here everyday to pray and to ask la Virgen de los Lagos for miracles, and the structure so beautiful 😍

Beautiful place to visit day and night. Lots of venders during the day just be careful they will try to push products on you sometimes, but besides that it was great. Plenty of delicious food and drinks nearby. There are no free bathrooms so keep some coins on you, prices vary but a few 5-10peso coins should be enough. They do give bare minimum toilet paper also so bring some extra with you. At night most of the shops selling items close but the food stands and restaurants stay open. It’s so beautiful at night and families generally are still there hanging out . Honestly it’s a beautiful place that you must experience yourself

A unique little church tucked away in the middle of this Rancho. Very appealing to the eye as it's beauty lies within the parishioners. As I tour through different places in Mexico the first place I go is to the church. It defines the city or town and this church says the town is poor but it people are rich in spirit and quality of life. Religion is big here and that's what makes this town so beautiful. They may not have much but what they have they are willing to share. This is a place that will greet you with open arms.

Self guided tour it's an amazing place with lots of history
DarkLord A — Google review
This is an amazing trip! It is well worth the drive and the cost for hiring a guide and boat. I live in Chapala, and my family came to visit for Christmas. We drove to Mezcala (about 45 minutes) and just hired the first guy that came up to us. He was young, but was born and raised in Mezcala, so knew the history of the island very well - and spoke quite good English. There were 6 of us total, and the cost for him and the boat was $1200 pesos. We tipped him extra, because he was so helpful and made sure my mom (who has had knee surgery and doesn't do well with hills or uneven ground) went slow and rested. He took us pretty much everywhere, explained all the important things, and answered all the questions we had. Note: there is a steep hill from the dock to where the ruins are, and the ground is uneven most of the way through. I highly recommend hiking boots. This was a lot of fun, very interesting, and is a reasonably short trip - we were only there for about 90 minutes, and the boat ride is about 15 min each way. I'm sure we had wanted to explore more, our guide would have been happy to accommodate us. If you like history, make sure you add this trip to your list!

(Translated by Google) An interesting and beautiful place to visit. To get here, you must do it by boat or with a guide. When you arrive at the island, you can visit the fort and hike either on a trail or cross-country. Whatever the way, be careful because depending on the season, you can find many scorpions. There is the possibility of camping but you have to communicate with a guide from the town of Mezcala since the island is protected. If you're lucky, you'll find a small stall selling drinks and snacks, it's not always there. If you have a car, you must park it in the town of Mezcala and mention that you are going to the island Great place to visit, amazing sunset and sunrise (Original) Un lugar interesante y bonito para visitar. (Translated by Google) A historical site that is rarely visited, it has one of the most interesting feats in the history of Mexico, especially in relation to independence since it was not until 1816 that they resisted and were not defeated by the royalist army. That is why the island is a silent witness to that feat of the inhabitants of Mezcala who defended freedom and independence in an exemplary manner. Es por eso que la isla es mudo testigo de aquella hazaña de los habitantes de Mezcala que defendieron la libertad y la independencia de manera ejemplar.
