Very nice museum, lots of things to see and learn. The content of the gallery in itself was plentiful. If you expect to see living birds, this may not be it (only had 3 living samples outdoors). Would strongly encourage you to pay a visit if you are in town.

Amazing collection of birds. Takes you through the evolution of dinosaurs into birds and many species of both extinct and living birds. The space itself is dignified and beautiful. Hummingbirds feast in the courtyard amd it is a great spot for birding.

You definitely have to stop by here, it’s a small museum but wow do they make it seem big. We were given a tour by one of the lovely young ladies working there. We were a party of 3 and yet she took the time to answer any questions and was very knowledgeable in her history. The inside was amazinggg, they do seem to change some of the items inside every so often but they do have a mummy on display at all times. I took so many pictures and one item was limited to 1 picture per person but was definitely beautiful in person.

Lovely history, tour guides are knowledgeable in the things inside their museum, small but a great amount of history. Well maintained, but sadly only half the museum was opened due to remodeling :-(. Hopefully I can come in the summer and enjoy the whole museum.

I love it actually....... I really really really hate that i wasn't able to see the things they said they have like, movies, chocolate, bread, etc ..... Because they don't do what they said they gonna do.... Example they said they have show" Thursday to Saturday or something 7-9 well i went Thursday at 9 not open i called the place they don't even answer okay... I went back in Saturday same thing again NOBODY answer!!!!!!!! Again place isssss soooo beautiful but that little detail made me give that rating not gonna change it because i don't think i go back to saltillo in a looooooong time sooo..... Yeah that's my experience.......

Museums
The Museo del Desierto, also known as the Desert Museum, is a must-visit natural history museum in Saltillo, Mexico. Opened in 1999, it offers an insightful exploration of the Chihuahuan Desert, showcasing its formation and the diverse species that call it home. The museum features captivating exhibits on the desert's unique ecosystem and geological wonders such as sand dunes.
My wife and I visited friends in Arteaga and went here with them. All of the museum is in Spanish, although there is an option to follow along in English with a QR Code compatible with the Spotify APP. The museum will take you around 3 hours to see everything, it is really enjoyable, although long. It will take through the beginning of mankind, from the Big Bang, up until present day. There are live animals outside in exhibits, as well as, snakes and other creatures inside, towards the end of the museum tour. A must-see, if you enjoy museums, although, plan accordingly for a time consuming visit.
G R — Google review
My second trip to Saltillo included the Museo del Desierto. Many locals recommend this museum to visit. As an independent author in which my book project was specifically on the Chihuahuan Desert, this museum offers excellent exhibits of the Chihuahuan Desert, the largest in North America. The paleontology exhibits are very deep here and the Chihuahuan Desert is very rich in discovery of many dinosaurs and periods existing in the area. But that's just one major part of this museum. The geological exhibits here are the creme of the crop, they definitely steal the show. I have never seen a spectacular display of rocks, minerals, and precious gems. Also to note, the reptile exhibit is pretty amazing as well, every type of rattlesnake found in these southern and southwest regions are here, including Guila Monsters. Also there is a Mexican Wolves exhibit which are very rare, and endangered. Plan on spending a long time at this amazing location, it is a very large museum and has a very diverse offering of exhibits. You will not be disappointed!

This museum is amazing! So many natural history wonders, and most fossils found locally! The crystal cave exhibit was breathtaking, the mineral and gemstone section was gorgeous, the animals on display are well kept and look happy/healthy, the history of the Mexican people was well represented, you can observe cave drawings and take a step through the many eras of earth’s history, and they had many live activities to observe as well as an outdoor area with live animals as well. I really enjoyed seeing the paleontology lab. The gift shop is well stocked, there is a cactus exhibit annd nursery you can purchase from, snacks annd drinks are available to purchase, and there are many guides on staff to answer questions. It truly is a fascinating place, and everyone who visits and/or lives in Coahuila should take the time to soak in the wonders of this spectacular museum!

Fantastic Museum. Lots of geology, history, and paleontology. Displays that bring the past to life. Well worth the visit. Also a great idea of what to do with that old car 🤣

I would recommend this museum to anyone who is visiting Saltillo. Lots to see, even some reptiles and animals. They have a large display of minerals and crystals. There is also a cactus nursery where you can buy 🌵.

Absolute fantastic museum. It's quite large and shines the spotlight on the history of the earth. The biggest theme is paleontology and dinosaurs. The Coahuilaceratops was found here in the region. There's also a reptilian section with Mexican snakes, some bats, turtles, coyotes and impressive mountain goats. tough the exponats aren't described in english, some of the staff speaks it.
Eruheran — Google review
Very good natural history museum, lots of things to see for kids and adults. Loved the paleontology and minerals section of the museum. We had fun as a family. The parking machine is not the most reliable and useful, it only takes small Mexican bills so you’re forced to go back and get change.

From Santiago, Nuevo León continue towards Laguna de Sanchez, at Puerto Genovevo turn left and continue all the way to Las Adjuntas. There you may leave the car (if you were driving) and continue downstream following the river for about an hour. You will get to the Chipitin pond or “hole” where the Cascadas river meet the Ramos river. If you were to continue on the road past Las Adjuntas, you will get to Potrero Redondo and its magnificent water fall.

Absolutely beautiful, especially when the skies are clear, without smog or such. The diversity of flora and fauna here is wonderful. Have hiked a couple times from the bottom to the level with the hotel / restaurant and playground, and also hiked around the level 3 & 4 trails by themselves too on other occasions after we have driven partially up and parked. My goal is to hike to one of the paths to the very top areas, but need some extra time (and of course the extra fee permit). This is a special gem for the cities and the people. I would be hiking here so often if I lived in the area. Lol but I’m not sure if I’d have the stamina and energy to ride my bike up nor even down. Nevertheless, a gorgeous mountain park with spectacular views.

Astonishing views, trails for all hiker levels, a bunch of nature and nature sounds is what you can expect. My experience there was amazing, we hiked for a total of ~6 hours (4 to get to the top of El Final and 2 getting back down)... Choose wisely the trails you'll hike the "scenery" one are less inclined but way longer whereas the "Express" ones are shorter but high inclination. My tips: - Buy entrance tickets in advance (~$70mxn) on the website - Bring water and/or water bottles. You don't need tons of water, bring one and then refill as you progress on your adventure from the water fountains - Bring bug repellent (this is nature so expect mosquitos) - Bring sunscreen : wear some before you start but as you'll be (most likely) sweating, you might need to apply a second or third time - Bring lunch / snacks : there are no stores wo you'll be able to eat ONLY what you bring. If your hike lasts more then be prepared with some food/snacks
Humberto M — Google review
Well worth it! It's was a 9 minute drive to the park entrance from our hotel, Autentico. We paid online 70 pesos each, uber dripped us at the entrance and we did a beautiful hike. We did the express route which is about 5k up and down, it is well marked and impossible to miss. There is also the easier route which is longer but much less steep. This is great for a morning hike or evening, stellar views, pine trees, woodsy feel, clean trail, and a hotel at the tip if you want to eat or have a drink. Will do a again
Charlotte R — Google review
Amazing. You can walk, ride or run with an incredible view. Take your time to rest amd enjoy the nature. One of the best views of Monterrey, just less than 20 min far from downtown. There is a hotel and restaurant.

Breath-taking views. Bring a good camera. Also the Chipinque hotel is at the very top at the end of the road. Lots of rest stops for pictures, restrooms, picnic areas and play areas for the kids. Good hiking and biking trails all for less that $5 American.

La Huasteca, located on the border of Coahuila and Nuevo Leon states, offers a subalpine landscape with cooler temperatures, making it an ideal summer hiking destination. The park features challenging ascents that require good physical condition due to its altitude exceeding 3,000 meters. With close to 300 climbing routes available in the area, La Huasteca Canyon is a popular spot for both amateur and experienced climbers.
What an amazing and untouched piece of paradise that we had never heard of and found out about accidentally! The natural beauty is on par with some of the most amazing places in the world. Close to Monterrey, MX, but feels secluded and like you’re in your own world.

1. Free entrance, but guided tours may cost extra. "Huasteca Santa Catarina" is a stunning ecological park located within the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park in Nuevo León, Mexico. Weather is usually dry and hot, but in the middle of afternoon it turns dry and cold. Known for its dramatic rock formations, diverse flora and fauna (eagles, condors, foxes, snakes, armadillos, bats, scorpions, etc) and adventure activities, it offers a perfect escape into nature. 2. Rock Climbing and Rappelling · The park’s impressive rock formations (some reaching 120 meters high) are ideal for rock climbing and rappelling. Permits may be required, so check in advance . 3. Cave Exploration · Recommendation is to hire a professional tourist guide to ensure a safe journey into Visit Cueva de los Murciélagos (Cave of the Bats) and Cueva de la Virgen (Cave of the Virgin), which house unique wildlife and endangered plant species like the Victoria agave . 4. Wildlife and Flora · The park is home to endemic species like the Agave victoria reginae and the Pinus santa catarinae. Keep an eye out for lizards, birds -like eagles and condors- and other small animals . 5. Panoramic Views · Climb to the highest peaks for stunning views of Monterrey on one side and the vast mountain landscapes on the other . 6. Photography and Nature Walks · The park’s unique landscapes, including the Santa Catarina River dry bed and rock formations, are a photographer’s paradise . Budget Estimates (Per Person)(MXN) Transportation - Public Bus 20-30 From Monterrey to Santa Catarina - Ride-sharing (Uber/Didi) 100-250 One-way from Monterrey Guided Activities - Rock Climbing/Rappelling 300-600 Optional guide fees (if required) - Hiking Guide 200-400 Recommended for safety and insights Food and Drinks - Packed Lunch/Snacks 100-200 Bring your own water and food - Local Eateries 150-300 MXN Meals at nearby streetcar restaurants in Santa Catarina, in the park there's no food services. Miscellaneous - Equipment Rental 200-500 If renting bikes or climbing gear (check locally) Total (Day Trip) 570-1,950 MXN Depending on transportation and activities chosen. 💡 Budget Tips: · Bring your own water and snacks to save money, as the park has limited facilities . · If you are budget limited, use public transportation to reduce costs, but it's highly recommended bringing your own vehicle. · Group tours may offer discounted rates for guided activities. 🍽️ Food and Drink Options · No restaurants inside the park: There are no dedicated food vendors within the park, so bring your own food and plenty of water . · Local eateries in Santa Catarina: After your visit, head to the town of Santa Catarina for local restaurants serving traditional Nuevo León dishes like: · Tacos Mañaneros. · Carne Asada (grilled meat). · Machacado con Huevo (dried meat with eggs) . · Picnic spots: The park has areas where you can enjoy a packed lunch amidst nature.

What a beautiful place. There are many view areas where you can go and explore around. There is an endless amount of activities and views you can get from here. Highly suggested to get your own car because service gets lost quickly into the canyon. Way worth going to if you are in the area

Estacionamiento planetario alfa is a popular destination featuring interactive science and technology exhibits, an aviary, and an IMAX theater. The museum's architecture is a fascinating blend of shapes and lines, reminiscent of outer space. It offers educational spaces for children to engage with exhibits while adults can also interact with some pieces. Additionally, there is a food area offering snacks. The planetarium requires a separate ticket which can be purchased at the nearby ticket booth.
This is a must seen place if you are visiting Monterrey, the museum is great and there are many things to see, specially for kids. There is an IMAX theater, a museum for kids where you you can see dinosaurs, interactive things to do and many other stuffs. Also there are ducks and turkeys, they can be feeded and in some cases can be thought. There are several open areas and also there is a place call the ' El jardín de la ciencia' or the ' science garden' where the kids can interact and learn many things related with phisics.

Originally this place was home of one of the most important business in Monterrey history, he gave this place as a donation for city culture, therefore seems to be privately administrated, the place is well kept, offers science games for kids, museum, a variety of exhibitions from science, art, history and of course the main thing, Cosmos, Universe, a huge Imax screen that makes you feel you are inside the film, films which are around 45 mins in style of Discovery or NatGeo. This place is a must and has been a seeder of culture for several generations. Offers indoors and outdoors attractions, cafe, souvenirs and a small zoo. Oh I almost forget, there is also an observatory with profesional powerful telescope.

Really cool experience for a two year old. One of the highlights was the Mexican Dino exhibit. My little toddler was very impressed by the big moving dinosaurs. Did not have the time to visit it all but what we saw was great!

Great place to visit for those interested in the planets and stars, but also for those that love peacocks. The birds are beautiful and there are many male and females on site. Several of the females were tending to their eggs or newly hatched chicks. Ducks with chicks were also fun to watch. There are good exhibits inside and out. Just inside the main building are saltwater fish tanks with and array of sea life. The planetarium show was on extreme weather and was interesting. Adequate restroom facilities. Clean property. Cost for adults is MX$120.

Big franchise restaurants & coffeeshops (Panem, Starbucks, Buffalo Wild Wings etc.). Some gifts shops are available too. There is also a gym. Free parking from 8am to 1pm.
Sara B — Google review
For some reason people just stopped going there. Mediocre restaurants like buffalo Wild wings, an all you can eat japannese are one of the few options. There’s a gym that apparently all young people go to. And a nice cinema but with a terrible food service. It can take up to 45 minutes to get your drinks and food. And they don’t allow you to buy directly. You have to order in your seats through the app or a waiter.
Francisco N — Google review
It's an open mall concept. They keep changing it constantly. That keeps the ambience fresh. We like that it's never too crowded or busy. So you can just relax in the movie theater or one of the restaurants.
Francisco S — Google review
Great location, lot’s of parking space, but the little roads that lead to the parking area, are complicated and badly designed, be careful you could easily scratch your car. Unfortunately most shops have closed in Avanta, but there are still some great ones. It is perfect for a rendezvous point.

A complete shopping mall experience, in the most exclusive zone that you will have to visit while in Monterrey. Paseo San Pedro has it all. A great big open space, long and wide corridors, many exclusive stores a very nice food court ( took a wide picture of it ) well I have nothing but good recommendations for this mall, even though I'm not a big fan of this kind of places, this one seemed to me a quiet and relaxed one. Museo Regional de Nuevo León El Obispado is a historical gem located in a late-1700s baroque palace that has served various purposes over the years, from being a church to a fort. The striking mustard-yellow structure was originally built as the seat of religious authority in Nuevo Leon and later repurposed into the museum it is today.
An absolute gem! The Museo Obispado in Monterrey offers not only a fascinating glimpse into the region's history but also provides the perfect spot to sit back, relax, and soak in the breathtaking views of Monterrey. Whether you're a history buff or simply seeking a serene escape, this is the place to be. Highly recommend!

This museum is an absolute hidden gem! It is a must visit if you’re going to the Mirador, as you are only a two minute walk away, but if you like history or are a museum person, add this to your list. The museum is housed in a former church that also served as a fortress, complete with cannons. Featuring local and state history, the collection also includes paleontology and paintings. An hour inside is enough to see it all, so it makes for a nice quick activity.

The Palacio Municipal de Monterrey is located in Mexico's largest public square, which consists of five interconnected plazas. The landmark Faro de Comercio, a 70m tall terra cotta-colored structure, stands out in the area and illuminates the city with its green laser at night. Visitors can enjoy the numerous gardens and green spaces within the square after exploring important buildings such as the 18th-century cathedral and the modern concrete City Hall.

Nestled in the heart of the city, the Templo de San Luis Gonzaga is a stunning example of Neo-Gothic architecture, completed in 1923. Its four impressive octagonal towers and exquisite stained glass windows create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility that invites visitors to pause and reflect. The ornate chandelier adds a touch of elegance to this cozy space, making it perfect for intimate gatherings such as baptisms and weddings.

Cerro del Obispado

Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
Cerro del Obispado, located just west of Monterrey's city center, is a hilltop recreation area that offers stunning panoramic views of the city and the surrounding Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range. At an elevation of 2542 feet (775m) above sea level, it features a spacious circular lookout point at the summit where visitors can take in breathtaking 360-degree vistas.
Walking up from Mirador del Obispado is nice (if the weather cooperates). Visited around 7 PM on a Wednesday and there were not too many people. There was a mariachi band but there were also no security guards or any other officials near the flag.

Galerías Monterrey

Mentioned on

Shopping mall
Shopping
Galerías Monterrey is a large shopping mall located in the center of Monterrey, Mexico. The mall has a variety of stores, including major fashion brands like H&M, Zara, and American Eagle. It is convenient to find parking at the mall and it is open from Sunday through Thursday from 11AM to 9PM, and on Fridays from 11AM to 10PM.
If you like bougie malls with every brand you can think of, endless corridors, that there's no way you can walk all of it in the same day because there's 3 levels and a bajillion stores, then this one is for you! Liverpool department store was a mask within ITSELF. It was the Macy's of Mexico. My personal favorite new find was a store called 'Lefties,' also multilevel. High quality clothing that didn't break the back. I won't spoil it but you have to go to the fitting rooms and then the checkout area... the rest of the stores in the world need to take some NOTES! I just was not prepared for the amazing shopping experience. We planned on spending a few hours here, since we were just visiting the area and heard it was a good spot. 5 hours later ... things started to close and we had no idea that much time had passed! The movie theater looked epic, but didn't go in that part.

Galerías Monterrey is a great place to shop, eat, and spend time. It’s clean, well-maintained, and has a nice variety of stores—from big brands to local options. The food court has plenty of choices and there's usually something for everyone. I also liked how safe and organized the parking area is. It can get pretty crowded on weekends, and some areas feel a bit dated compared to newer malls. Still, the overall experience is very pleasant. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the city!
Kumar A — Google review
I love it at Christmas season specially. It is lighted and beautiful decorated. Now it’s larger and the food court was relocated to 3rd floor. More stores and options to shopping and find everything you are looking for.

If your in the area (or not) it would totally be worth your detour or planned stop to admire this one of its kind collage in Monterrey Mexico. This was incredibly breathtaking. We really enjoyed walking around this park and admire the gorgeous Neptune statues. You won't be disappointed.

One of the best sculptures/fountains I’ve seen in Monterrey. The fountain is nice, but the general area is just a great place to walk, shop, and people watch.
Ben P — Google review
Really neat fountain. There is a lot of area to walk and browse local vendors in this area, which leads to the Canal de Santa Lucia, which has miles of nice walkable area. I highly recommend a walk around evening time as the area is much more appealing at night with all of the lights!

Large, beautiful fountain. Lit up with colorful lights at night. View of Cerro de la Silla.

When I visited here a couple years ago, I was stunned at how beautiful this was. If anything, I'd hope they continue to maintain it and even clean up the sides of the fountain. Wish I got to take more photos of it with a better camera, but hopefully I'll be back another time.

This is a pretty cool fountain in Macroplaza and the biggest statue they have there. If you have a free afternoon and are looking for something to do without having to pay, definitely check it out.

Xenpal Centro de Conservación de Fauna

Ecological park
Outdoor Activities
Family-friendly ecopark with a safari-style zoo & feeding area, plus a zip line & camel rides.
Great place to take young kids, animals are friendly, and you are able to feed them. The areas you get to walk around takes about 30-40 min. It's not very big. The safari isn't very big either. There are just a few different animals available from the walk around zoo. Price is reasonable.

Great place to visit with family! Loved how we got to interact with the giraffes and all other animals Very reasonable prices as well

I visited Centro Ecológico Xenpal today with my boyfriend and his father and had an absolutely amazing time!!!! The facilities are well maintained, pricing is fair, the staff is friendly/helpful, and the animals look healthy and happy. I am visiting Monterrey, MX from Arizona and this was by far my favorite stop on my trip! I would absolutely recommend visiting, and hope to come back someday :)

Great little zoo sandwiched in some beautiful mountains. Fascinating mix of animals along with pony and camel rides. Also has a safari area too but I didn't go to that. Unfortunately the gift shop closes 30 min before closing to missed going to it.

We stopped there after not being able to go up to the Grutas de García, since the cable car wasn’t working. To our surprise Xenpal was very entertaining. Our 4 year old niece had a lot of fun feeding the animals. The safari tour on our own car was also fun with a black lama’s face inside the car begging for carrots.

There are well-maintained trails for walking and hiking. It's recommended to wear a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and plenty of water and snacks. The road is excellent, and the junction is 5 km of dirt road, but it's not too difficult and there are no potholes. It's a shame it doesn't get many visitors. They have plenty of benches and places to sit with your food, grills, slides, and they sell snacks and drinks. I arrived late and didn't get any snacks, but it's totally worth the price when they open in the morning. The atmosphere is quiet and very family-friendly because they don't allow speakers.
