Centro ecoturístico Wotoch Aayin

Resort hotel
Sights & Landmarks
Centro ecoturístico Wotoch Aayin is a tranquil and non-touristy destination located in Celestun or Campeche. The place offers comfortable wood cabins with air conditioning, and the staff, especially manager Sergio, is incredibly helpful. The restaurant serves delicious and reasonably priced food, including a 'crocodile signature' dish recommended by the owner Carlos.
We loved our stay here. There were seven of us in our family group and the staff were so accommodating to us. Everything from the restaurant was delicious. We tried and liked the crocodile nachos. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Visiting the crocodile farm was interesting and informative. Our family loved playing in the pool and enjoying the hammocks. We also had a fogata in the evening. Overall, we had an excellent stay.
Jenny P — Google review
Once in a lifetime! Get up close and personal while learning about crocodiles and their habitat. Tour guide was great and funny. Owners have amazing stories and are so welcoming. Try the crocodile dishes if you dare. "Croconachos" were very good.
The B — Google review
Stayed here two nights ago. Slept in a beautiful wood cabin with a comfortable bed and a/c. The staff were wonderful. The manager Sergio was more than helpful. The food they serve in their restaurant is delicious and reasonably priced. Not a touristy place. Very peaceful. A real quiet fishing village
Barry M — Google review
An exceptional place with kind and attentive staff and crocodile-driven owner Carlos. The tour around the farm was truly interesting, with a lot of information on crocodiles’ life and even anatomy. Food was amazing and not expensive at all. I strongly recommend this place to everyone staying in Celestún or Campeche. Totally worth the trip!
Aušrė P — Google review
Excellent owners giving us quick tour before eating in their restaurant! We ordered mixed seafood cocktail, fish fillet & their "crocodile signature" of course (^o^) & we followed recommendation given by the lady owner "buttered crocodile" the ingredients are fresh only too much salt on the crocodile probably their added more salt on the salted butter when cooked it :P to compensate they gave us chocolate dessert! Price wise is reasonable for the remote area, 425 pesos for one starter, two main meals and three bottles of beers plus on the house desert plus eco tour! Awesome hospitality....
Ratih M — Google review
Fantastic hosts. Great activities. Would recommend this to everybody being in this region. Clean and comfortable rooms. Great food. The fishing and sea life tour is a must!
Julien B — Google review
I simply must return here! I felt so at ease while learning about nature, and their tour through the mangrove is such a relaxing experience you can't miss it. In the end, you get to breath in the fresh ocean breeze and feel at ease.
Aiden D — Google review
The food was good, just a little too much pepper for my taste. Service was great and for a little extra you can take a walk through the crocodile farm. Just the roads to get there are not great.

Carey centro ecoturistico

Hotel
Outdoor Activities
The tranquil and stunning seaside spot of Carey centro ecoturistico boasts a delightful ambiance. The culinary offerings showcase an array of delectable seafood, sourced from the nearby fishing grounds just 60 yards away. The hospitality is warm and welcoming, with a staff that exudes friendliness. While the menu could benefit from further diversification, it is worth noting that patrons who come specifically for the fish are highly satisfied with their dining experience at this establishment.
Fantastic place to visit. I had lunch (food was amazing) and a tour around on a day trip... but definitely plan on coming back with my family for a longer stay.
Michael J — Google review
This is a lovely place to stay, and the trip we booked to go out through the mangroves and to see the flamingos (late February through to April) was magical
Linda A — Google review
A lovely place with a good beach. Nice cabañas stay here if you visit the island. Breakfast was really nice.
Karen — Google review
5*s for the good points but it's important to understand what this place is and isn't. First, the people running the place are very kind and helpful. The restaurant is excellent - beautiful fresh fish, lovely avocado and tomato salads, excellent churros, decent prices. It is also very quiet, peaceful and a good base for fishing and eco tours. However, the sea is not swimmable and the beach sand is hard. The cabins are also basic - there is air con but no fridges, which is a great shame. Plus, it's an hour's detour on rutted roads to get there. Having said all of that, you're in a fishing village on Mexico's Gulf, the, place has a Steinbeckian quality (The Pearl), the locals seem nice and the beach dogs friendly, so if 6* $500 pn pseudo-eco-spa-resorts are not your thing, this place just might be a good pit stop - we're glad we went and thanks to the manager for all of the help
Phillip O — Google review
Quiet, gorgeous beach location. Cuisine fresh fish landed 60 yards away. Very friendly staff. Menu needs expanding, but I went there for fish and loved it.
Glyndwr G — Google review
This place has an OK location and cabañas right on the beach. Sadly its wifi is severly lacking. There is nothing to do here and no cervezas apart from low end Tecate. No beer vendor in town. No atm in town. Tours from this location are really expensive.

Edzna Archaeological Zone

Mentioned on
1 list
Archaeological site
Sights & Landmarks
Edzna Archaeological Zone is a hidden gem that offers a special experience due to its lesser-known status, allowing visitors to explore the site with minimal crowds. This ancient regional center flourished during the Classic Period and features the impressive Five-Story Pyramid, providing stunning panoramic views. Unlike more popular sites like Chichen Itza, Edzna offers ample space for exploration without feeling crowded. Visitors can climb most of the buildings and admire well-preserved decorations such as masks from the temple underneath.
A truly rewarding experience. The site has several structures to admire with many able to be climbed. Going by collectivo now costs MX60 per person one way but entrance remains, for now, just MX100. Two hours was the perfect amount of time to take it all in. Very few fellow travellers!
Gregory M — Google review
One of the oldest Mayan cities with amazingly preserved artifacts. The 5 floor pyramid is beautiful, the whole site is 10/10.
Bruce P — Google review
The most breathtaking sight I have seen so far! It is much bigger than you can imagine. We took a guide because there was 1 available and there were no visitors so it felt like a real private tour. The guide explained us much more than you are able to find yourself which made the experience even better!
Imre — Google review
Amazing and calm, do not miss this archeological site!!! After being shocked by the experience in Chichén Itzá with the many thousands of shouting vendors constantly breathing in our neck to buy at their stands, here we went through the opposite. Instead of the crowded and loud place we arrived to a calm and peaceful Mayan site with grandiose well-preserved ruins. We were probably a total of 10 people at the site at noon on this Tuesday. So special, we loved it! ❤️
Tamás L — Google review
Made an afternoon trip from Campeche as part of a Yucatán roadtrip. Absolutely worth the drive and feels unique compared with other sites in the region. Mid-sized site with a handful of enormous structures, most importantly the massive acropolis with the main palace. Almost everything can be climbed, the notable exception being the palace. Excellent small museum with everything translated into English. Iguanas are sparser compared to other regional sites so spotting them is a real treat.
Matthew T — Google review
A breathtaking site in incredible condition. Entrance is only 100 pesos and it is well worth getting a guide (although there is a great museum and helpful signage too). We spent 2.5 hours there but would have liked to stay longer
W. S — Google review
Nice archeological complex. We were almost alone in there. Not many tourist. Good value for the cheap entry fee. Lots of mosquitoes - bring some protection.
Karolina Š — Google review
A must do in Campeche !!! Ancient beauty that the Mayas build & is still standing in great condition. The site is well kept, but no stores to buy water or food, so go prepare & it's really humid and hot. Mosquitoes 🦟 will bite you since you walk in, but you are in the middle of a tropical jungle, so take gallons of Mosquito repellent!!! Besides that, it's an incredible place to explore the greatest of the Mundo Maya in Mexico 🇲🇽

Delightful hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Location is perfect for wandering about and experiencing the city. Still, only 2 blocks off of the long stretch of tourist based activities.

The Museo de ciudad Campeche is a small but fascinating museum that offers insights into Mayan culture and the city of Campeche. The museum also features a representation of the interior of a ship, providing an immersive experience.
(Translated by Google) I visited this place without expecting anything and the truth is that I was quite surprised. The navigation room is beautiful, it is small and it makes you want to see and know much more but wow how beautiful it is. They have a simulator as if you were on board a boat and boy was it a pleasant surprise. (Translated by Google) A small museum with a few rooms containing interesting exhibits regarding Mayan culture and the city of Campeche. One of the rooms that I liked the most is the representation of what a ship looked like inside. Apparently at some point in the museum, the back of the ship had projections and movement to simulate the sensation of movement of the ship, but only the gaps remain from the projectors and that area no longer has movement, I still recommend visiting the museum. Note: the museum seems to be closed since the main door remains closed and there is little visibility inside, but the place is in operation, you just have to push the door to enter.

(Translated by Google) The Museum of the City of Campeche, although small, is beautiful, it is worth visiting. On the ground floor they show us the most famous pirates and privateers who came to the city, as well as data from the time; On the upper floor, they show us replicas of different ships that were used in those years, with illustrations, models and very interesting explanations. For Mexicans, entry is free (we went on Sunday). Highly recommended. Altamente recomendado.

(Translated by Google) I revisited it after 7 years… I found the unpleasant surprise that two of its rooms were already closed. It's a shame because they were very interesting rooms about piracy and the city's fortifications. When asking when they were reopening, one of the ladies at the entrance petulantly tried to minimize the closure and the fact that we were not sure when they would reopen or what would happen. The Navigation Room and the mural are the most salvageable now… The good explanation of piracy was lost. It is small and quick to travel.

Centro Cultural Casa No. 6 is a museum located in a well-preserved 19th-century mansion that offers visitors a glimpse into the history of Campeche. The mansion was once occupied by a wealthy family, and it provides insight into the city's high society during that era. The museum features various rooms such as a bedroom, living room, and kitchen furnished with old-style furniture.
Very beautiful historic courtyard. Quick entry and viewing the entire property can be done in under 30mins.
Ron M — Google review
This is a house of a wealthy family turned into a museum. It’s shows the lifestyle and living standards of wealthy merchant family when compared to common people. It’s situated on the main central square. Nothing special and was small, however our tour guide made is interesting and the rating is in context of Campeche. We took a two hours walking tour which covered this. The tour was very reasonable.

20 mp each 03/22. Nice bit of history from the colonial Era on Campeche. It takes about 30 min.at a slow pace. Lots of looking around to do. There is a book store but everything I looked was in Spanish.

This is free and very interesting to ddiscover the colonial period of Campeche. Located in front of a nice park but sad that most of the information is in Spanish, not much in English, so a sign for me to learn Spanish! Not very well maintained, hence just 4 stars

Puerta de Tierra

Mentioned on
+13 other lists
Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
Puerta de Tierra, also known as the Land Gate, was constructed in 1732 and used to be the main entrance to the city. Although it's no longer the primary gate to Campeche, it remains a must-see landmark. This unique attraction is an original fortified bastion with a former city gate within surviving and restored city walls. It resembles structures found in Spain or Portugal, adding to its appeal.
53$ to get access to the Camino de Ronda, 600m of walkway at the top of the walls from which you can peek at what s behind the facades and on the rooftops. Well worth it. Get in before 5 and you can stay until 6, all alone up there, and ring the bell to exit.
Michel G — Google review
This is a pretty unique attraction to visit in Mexico. An original fortified bastion with a former city gate within the framework of surviving and restored city walls. It appears like something you'd see in Spain or Portugal, which is what makes it so neat. It's not exactly pretty or spectacular, but it is unique. There are a few shops and a restaurant or two on the "old" side of the walls. If you look north, off in the distance you can see the Sea Gate at the other end of the old city. Nice!
Bobby C — Google review
A walk along the old Campeche city walls comes with some nice views. Keep in mind there is zero shade.
Hein V — Google review
One of the best historical sights in town! For only 15 pesos you are allowed to climb the walls of the former fortifications with a beautiful view over the colorful city center. Highly recommended, well worth the price. Can be quite hot up there in the sun, though, better bring some water and a hat. You might expect to spent about 20 minutes there, if you walk all around.
Barbora Š — Google review
Just a small part of Mexico's history. The whole city is really nice. Night show at Puerta de Tierra is ok, but unfortunately is only in Spanish, they should include an English version to welcome foreign tourism.

Bodies of Water
Amazing spot! Two cenotes - one is for swimming and kayaking, the other only to look over and take photos of. They are both very photogenic. There is a little a hiking route around them (the sign says 5.7 km, but it seemed way less to me) and a zip line, which is included in the price of the entry fee (100 pesos). All in all, there’s quite a lot to do, you can easily spend 2-3 hours there. Unless a big bus comes, there’s not many tourists. I’ve been there until the closing time (16:30) and hardly anybody was there at that hour.
Barbora Š — Google review
The cenote itself is beautifully located. The facilities are a bit run down. We spent about an hour in the place, and were all alone the entire time. Life jackets provided and opportunities to kayak and swim. The water is quite warm so the swim wasn't as refreshing as we'd hoped. All in all a nice place but probably not worth the 1.5h detour over very poorly maintained roads.
Tom H — Google review
The place is decent, but Agua Azul is a lie. It’s murky green water. Naturally it’s beautiful, but nothing like the beautiful crystal clear waters of northern Yucatan peninsula. Nice the kayaks were included. 200 pesos seemed like a lot for a remote site like this, but overall a good experience. Probably wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re already in the area looking to buy some time. Monkeys are always a plus!
Kolby N — Google review
I really enjoyed this place. The men that ran the zip line really made sure I felt safe and were very patient. The only reason I didn't give 5 star is because they do not have water or snacks to purchase and if your there all day you will need to pack a lunch. BUT the team was helpful and went to town for us to purchase water. Overall worth the drive!
Kathrine C — Google review
Beautiful place, very exciting the zip line, and swimming in the cenote to rejuvenate amazing 😀
Flor S — Google review
This is a really lovely open air Cenote. First you take a walk, we also did a zip line high above the lake, that was awesome. You see the monkeys in the trees, and after aclgreat walk around, we had a “refreshing’. Swim in over 30’ C water. The middle of the lake is a bit colder. You should just visit this Cenote. You can also cano there.
Han E — Google review
Zip-lines were not working and we were charged 150 pesos per person. This is much higher than it used to be according to some reviews. But the worst of it all was that the gate was not fully opened which resulted in some scratches and a bump in our rental car... That being said, the place is great for kayaking and watching local nature. There are plenty of howling monkeys in the area! Observing them in the natural habitat was the highlight of the day.
Kamil S — Google review
Definitely closed for a long time now. No guards though, and the cenote is easily accessible around the utility shed. Absolutely worth it, beautiful scenery and amazing water. A couple local kids were enjoying when we stopped by and didn't care about our presence. Bring what you need and check it out, it's worth making the detour and stop.

Mentioned on

Museum
Natural History Museums
La Casa del Agua Centro de Interpretacion Uyotot-ja, also known as Casa de Agua, is located 13km along the road to Jonuta, beside the Rio Grijalva. The center features a 20m-high observation tower offering views of the confluence of the Grijalva, Usumacinta, and San Pedrito rivers at Tres Brazos. Visitors can explore nature trails and informative displays on the wetlands with knowledgeable guides.
Really great place to visit! You can learn about the Centla wetlands reserve and particularly about Casa del Agua efforts to preserve it and to fight climate change. The best part was the view point where you can have a 360 degrees view of the reserve and the conjunction point of the three rivers. You can also spot crocodiles and some bird species at this place. The cost of entrance is 40 pesos per person. Next to this place you can find a traditional restaurant which also offers tours into the wetlands.

(Translated by Google) It is a beautiful place embedded in the core area of the Pantanos de Centla Biosphere Reserve, Tabasco... It is independent of the CONANP administration, the cooperation is $55 pesos that contribute to its conservation. They have 4 exhibition rooms related to the ecological and biotic aspects of the reserve (vegetation, soil, water, fauna, geography, hydrography) and climate change. You can climb the watchtower 20 high, its main function is to monitor forest fires and admire the union of 3 rivers: Usumacinta, San Pedro and Grijalva. You also walk the path under the shade of mangroves (mainly white and red), ceibas, corks, macuilis, red, among other species, as well as spotting fauna (birds, mammals and reptiles). It is beautiful, I have visited it twice. Access to the general public is only from Thursday to Sunday. (Translated by Google) Great place if you like nature, it is generally clean and preserved, however it is important to mention that if you are looking to enter the swamp or if you are looking for action ecotourism, this is not the right place, it is more for hiking of a single route. General aspects: - The place is privately managed and the entrance costs 40 pesos, independent of this payment you have to pay around 60 pesos (there is a discount for students and senior citizens) to "enter the reserve", that payment is federal and is made practically in the same place. - The hiking is a single path from which you cannot go out freely to explore, it is approximately 700 meters, and despite this defect, the route is very pleasant. - You can see crocodiles, spider monkeys, lizards and several species of birds. - In the place they sell potatoes and coconut sweets, as well as pozol, there is no main dish as such, but you can bring your food already prepared, it is not allowed to make a fire inside. - It has interactive rooms, kite-style children's museum", there are 4 and they are well preserved although they are small. - It has a direct dock to the river, the view is very beautiful. - You can fish but only with the rods they rent there (50 pesos), and what you catch you have to return to the river, you can't take it with you. - It has a viewpoint, above you can see the union of the Grijalva and Usumacinta rivers, and the different colors of the water, it is very beautiful and worth going up. Recommendations: - Wear comfortable and sports clothing, the weather is warm. - Bring repellent, although there are not as many insects as it might seem. -Bring binoculars to observe the animals, although they are rented on site. - The boat rides are independent of the place and range in price from 1000 to 1300 pesos, according to Sapo la pedrada, they last 1:30 min and take you to the arms of the river, they don't get into the swamp and wetlands as much either. , with great luck you can see free manatees in the river, although due to their nature they do not approach the boat. - Next door there is a restaurant that is also independent. - The route from Villahermosa is towards Frontera and once you cross the river bridge, the road is immediately there, the turn is to the right. - It is the most practical option to see the Marshes of Centla Reserve, if you put "Margins of Centla Biosphere Reserve" on Google Maps, it sends you to a geographical point where there is nothing.

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Yumka is a delightful small zoo that offers an engaging experience for families visiting the area. With guided tours showcasing various geographical zones, you can encounter fascinating wildlife such as jaguars, elephants, and toucans. The entry fees are quite budget-friendly—children under three get in free, while older kids and adults pay minimal prices.
It was a very very nice zoo it was small but nice the animals look very healthy I wish I could be more interactions with the Monkees
Todd V — Google review
It's a very good place to go with the kids overall. Food options are not good at all, I mean, they serve its purpose if you're starving but nothing delicious or worth considering if you're not hungry, refreshments are good tho', try to call in advance to ask if they're in maintenance, otherwise you'll see a bunch of empty cages. Be there as early as you can.
Sonico — Google review
On my recent visit, the 2 guides for our tour were very informative and pleasant. They explained about every animal and their habitat. They talked about conservation efforts and where we can participate. The animals look well kept and healthy. My only concern would be DUMBO the elephant. His enclosure consists of only a metal structure in the middle of an empty land. With no big trees for him to cool off when the sun is at it higher point. It was saddening to witness how he tried to slim down and stay still in order to fit inside the very little shadow the structure was projecting. I hope the next time I visit the park, his conditions are better. They have a store at the entrance for you to buy snacks and plenty of choices for drinks since they don't allow outside food or drinks, yes, not even water. At the end of the train ride, there's a section with more exhibits and even though it is not a formal restaurant, they have sitting and they offer food options like tamales, empanadas, oreja de mico and different traditional candies and snacks. They also offer drinks and paletas de hielo. I hope everyone visiting Tabasco can take the opportunity to visit this place. It's not only kids friendly but has something special for all ages!!

This place is an amazing experience if you are in town, it’s fun for families. The prices are extremely affordable kids below 3 enter free, other kids are $40 (pesos), adults foreigners are ~$137 pesos (~$7 dollars) and local adults are only $80 pesos. It includes two guided tours: 1) a walking guided tour through the jungle, as you walk by the tell you all about the fauna and ecosystem there. 2) a train tour through the reservation where all animals are not caged, and in their own ecosystems. The third stop is a recreational area with additional animals and a park with a small shop for food and gifts. They have bathrooms both at the entry and on the recreational stop. Bring comfy shoes for walking, and clothes that cover your legs and arms! There are lots of mosquitos and ants around!

Parque Museo La Venta is an intriguing outdoor museum situated in western Tabasco. It was established in 1958 to protect the ancient Olmec settlement of La Venta from petroleum exploration, and houses several significant artifacts including giant stone heads and carvings salvaged from the oil fields. The park exudes a jungle-like atmosphere within the city, making it a fascinating destination for both history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
The park itself is very interesting. I was looking forward to see this place and the olmecs heads and it is truly worth the visit!

The ticket took forever,.than from the next window some man shouted: where are you from? He had to fill out a list, then at the entrance we had an argument since the ticket lady gave us the Mexican entrance fee and the entrance lady told her we should have paid the foreigner entrance fee, so they argued if a permanent residence permit makes a foreigner eligible for the regular fee or not and we just stood there.....until we decided to enter the park. A very unwelcome feeling. The park deteriorated a lot since we were here 4 years ago. Not worth the money. With or without discount.

I was visiting from the US and my friends wanted to take me here. It’s beautiful, for sure. I really like that it has the combination of being a museum AND a zoo! Mostly common zoo animals, but it’s still neat. I really enjoyed the bird area that you can walk into. The big head statues are awesome. The ONLY downfall is the amount of mosquitoes is torturous! Be prepared for that, bring plenty of bug spray/repellent because you will for sure be eaten alive by mosquitoes if not. We had bug spray and were still getting attacked haha.

Guys with good intentions. I had a good time but they have a big room for improvement. In general the conditions of the Hacienda are average, I realized that many places were not cleaned for years. It's not the same visit and old place than a abandoned one or tending to that.

We got a private tour from the granddaughter of the man who originally built the hacienda. Really interesting to hear all about how the cocoa is grown and processed into chocolate. Travelled here with our elderly parents from the UK. It's wheelchair accessible in most parts. Our guide was a lovely local girl, I think her name is Yvette. She was very interested in us and in giving us a great tour. She has a lovely warm and giggly personality and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The original house is beautiful. The grounds are full of many different plantations and not just cocoa. If you're lucky you'll also see monkeys sitting high up a huge mangoe tree. We made our own chocolate with the cocoa beans. Then we finally visited the shop where we were given a very good selection of free samples. There is absolutely no pressure to make a purchase, but we couldn't resist. There is also a restaurant, though not sure what is served but I did see children drinking delicious looking chocolate milkshakes. The plantation is definitely an experience I would recommend.

I thoroughly enjoyed being at this museum. The cost is very reasonable 65 peso. I did not spend enough time here due to my schedule. I am not sure if the site is the actual location where Olmec citizen would have lived 1200 - 400 BC, though I believe it is. If you're an enthusiast that does not speak Spanish give yourself 4 - 6 hours minimum. This will allow for you to read all the information posted, but most importantly walk through the site and try to understand the context in which the monuments are placed. The statutes inside are the largest that I've seen but also the most weathered. The statute at the entry to the museum is a replica made of concrete. Try to cover yourself to protect from insects when walking through site outdoors.
ABOB B — Google review
Like an open air archeological site. The important thing here is the Olmec statues. There were lots of ant-eaters in the park. Also there were lots of ants carrying leaves too(naturally). One part of the park was a zoo, it was sad to see those animals in cages pacing back and forth.

We received a tour from a person working in the area for 40 years that made our trip worth it. Almost all the pieces are now copies. The originals are in Parque La Venta in Villahermosa. There is a nice population of oropendula birds in the site. They open at 900 and close at 1630 hrs.

Most of it are replicas due complicated modern history of the site when were the original pieces moved to Veracruz and Mexico city due to urban and industrial projects in La Venta. Unfortunately it's visible that the museum is underfunded. The museum building need maintenance.

They take you to Monkey Island, explain some important facts about the place, and take you to a place where you can buy food and crafts. And what's essential: they take you with a "white witch" who will clean your pocket, depending on your mood. They also offer a mask made with mud from the lagoon. Greetings, travelers. Saludos viajeros.

Cascada El Salto de Eyipantla

Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
It’s a shame that locals are fighting for the rights of this place, so you can only visit the upper area of the waterfall. Hopefully the conflict will solve soon, as the lower area of the waterfall is the most impressive

Beautiful place to visit and enjoy the waters of the river, The waters are at a perfect temperature for the heat and, unlike other rivers the water is warm, there is a small well-stocked store, the road to get there in good conditions, I only hope that our ejidatarios friends get agree on that conflict that benefits no one, even so highly recommended to admire the beauty of the waterfall from the other side, that is, the Cerro de la Iguana.

Very good place to see the falls. But there is a problem with the manegement, so most people know that it was close and also after entrance you can not find good service ! Place looks like abandon!!

The falls are beautiful. You can walk up to the top of the falls for an amazing view and also go down to explore the area below. It was a great experience and highly recommended.

Mesmerizing and astonishing. 'El Salto's' waterfall is beautiful, truly one of mother natures gift to the world. A must see on your visit to Los Tuxtla's region in Veracruz. A great place to take the family. People of all ages will be impressed by the falls massive pour of water and roar. The overlook brings you close to the edge of the fall. A stairway to the bottom of the fall allows you the opportunity to feel the crash of the water. FYI, you will get wet. Make sure your phone has a case and screen cover. Unfortunately access to the bottom is not wheelchair accessible, please be mindful of seniors and people with disabilities. Mind your trash and keep the Tuxtla region clean.

Beautiful experience. I recommend everyone go once.. went with my family, and we just loved it.

Even in the dry season of April, the waterfall has powerful flow even if not occupying the entire width. Good roads to reach. The Sihuapan street comes straight into the village, ends in a cul-de-sac which is the car parking area and entry to the falls. There is a 15mxn per head entry fee at the top and another 5mxn closer to the fall. Plenty of eateries, souvenir shops, toilets. From the point of entry, if one walks straight across a hanging bridge, one comes to a viewpoint overlooking the top of the falls. Instead if one goes down nearly 240 steps, one reaches a short trail that takes you right upto the falls. There is a barricade so that one cannot actually touch the falls or go under but there is quite a spray. The paths are well laid out, made of stone or cenent and not muddy or slippery. After the exertion of climbing back up the steps in the heat, it was refreshing to have a “ coco frio”, a chilled tender coconut drink outside.

Short drive from Catemaco. Small fee for entrance. Yes as other reviewers have said, lots of vendors, however, they are all friendly and just trying to scrape together a living (mostly poor indigenous Mexicans). That aside it's a beautiful waterfall as seen in the Mel Gibson movie. It is also possible to walk along the riverside from the falls for a short distance.

Parque Eco-Arqueológico Copalita

Park
Nature & Parks
Parque Eco-Arqueológico Copalita is a small archaeological park near Huatulco, nestled in the jungle of the Bahias de Huatulco nature reserve. The entrance fee is around 46 pesos and it's definitely worth it. The shaded trail takes you past pre-Columbian structures like a ball court, temple, and large pyramid. Although climbing on these structures is not allowed, you can still admire them from the trail.
This park recently reopened and cost about 46 pesos to enter. It took about two hours to walk through. There is a visitor center but it appeared to be closed. The shaded trail leads through several pre-Columbian structures including a ball court, temple and large pyramid. You are not allowed to climb any of these but you can view them from the trail. The trail could use some maintenance - there are some areas where I had to dodge hanging branches. Hike to the steep upper part of the trail to the Mirador - a lookout to a beautiful panoramic views of the ocean and the ruins of an ancient lighthouse.

Please note* this place is constantly updating, so things may have changed! Summary: 1. Gorgeous views with a small uphill walk/ hike. 2. Loads of geckos, birds, and other animals. 3. A lot of the pathways were washed out due to hurricane. They seem to be rebuilding! 4. You cannot go up to the ruins, though you can see them from about 12 feet away. 5. There was no small museum when we visited. It seemed empty, but maybe it will be there when you visit! While supporting a National Park in Mexico, you can take a stroll up a stone pathway to some outstanding views of La Bocana, the coast, and see where the river and ocean meet by a sand bar. The views were gorgeous, and we saw so many animals. If you're lucky you can see horses running along the beach below. While walking, there are big signs that teach you about the local fauna in Spanish. It's interesting stuff! Some of the pathways have been washed out due to hurricanes. They seem to be actively fixing this, but something to note as a lot of the pathways are under construction. Still great to go support them while they rebuild! The ruins are active archeological sites. This means you cannot take photos, or walk directly up to the ruins. It's still really neat to see the architecture, as it's different than how the Mayans used to build.

Great two hour walk in a Mexican jungle. Definitley a work in progress, but well worth the 90 pesos. Great views at the top of the walk. Maybe the archeology people and the National park people will get back together under cordial circumstances, settle their differences and get back to letting people take photos of the 1500 yr old ruins. Right now, no photos allowed.

Still relatively unknown to tourists, the Copalita Ecological Park and Ruins (Parque Eco Arqueológico Copalita) sit on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in the Huatulco resort area. Remnants of pyramids, temples, a ball court, and a pre-Hispanic lighthouse dot the lush landscape of the archaeological park, which also includes a massive stone believed to have once been used in sacrifices. It has a beautiful viewing point!

Beautiful reserve that includes prehispanic temple, a pyramid and more. The ruins are just that -- ruined by time and nature but picturesque in this low-lying jungle. The viewpoint (mirador) over the ocean offers rare views of untrammeled nature.

It is worth visiting this park! The place has a local biologist that will guide you throughout the place, explaining everything. If you are not versed in understanding Spanish, I highly recommend to bring someone to translate. There are lots of interesting facts along the way. To spot animals comes out of luck. But even if you are not lucky, you’ll still enjoy a good hike among local flora. There are some amazing trees, and of course, the view from the highest point to the beach and the river mouth is worth the visit! There’s also a sort of museum or visitor center with local handcrafts. It’s not just an exhibit, but also a store if you wish to take something home. However, the main point of the exhibit is not to sell it, but to explain how some of these crafts are done. This part was very educational too. There are explanations written throughout the place both in Spanish and English if you wish to learn more or not depend on a guide. However, to get into the forest is only allowed with the guided visit. Last, but not least, this place relies on donations. They are optional, but encouraged, and they suggest to give away 300 pesos per person. The donations help them maintain their jaguar sanctuaries, which is part of the mision of the organization that’s in charge of the administration of this place.

We dragged our feet before we got here. Shouldn’t have. It’s a beautiful park and you should set aside 2-3 hours to see it. Very friendly personnel and if you like to you can hire a guide. We didn’t. We were planning to come back with some friends and do it again with a guide but unfortunately that did not happen. Oh well next year. Part of the park is a bit steep so be prepared.

This is museum park around Archeological digs in the area, highlighting the indigenous people of this region (Mixtec & Zapotec). Temples, town & ball court are some of the digs that can be seen. There's also the spectacular views of the meeting between river and ocean. Highly recommended.
