Absolutely beautiful room with spa and patio. Excellent restaurant on premises as well as gym and pool. Everything is easily accessible and the position is stunning. Stylish decor throughout. Outstanding customer service from Rachel at reception and Nathan in the kitchen. Thank you very much! Have already sent more customers your way

Paths to beach are very sandy and difficult for people with mobility problems. It would be nice to see a board walk that is wheelchair ♿ friendly so that all visitors can see this amazing area.
John W — Google review
Nice walk along the breakwater. A few people fishing, well giving bait to whatever would take it as the tide came in. Quite relaxing wandering and enjoying the environment.
Chris R — Google review
Beautiful long, sandy beach that would never be very crowded. Behind it, the state park with walks and places to enjoyed views. You get a a great view of the state park, and the beach, from Crowdy Head lighthouse.

Cattai Wetlands

It's a great place for bird watching!!! Lots of different species of birds!! There are different paths to walk on, and they keep the paths mowed beside the raised up walk ways!! And there are toilets!! Plus a large covered picnic area.
Debra M — Google review
Sign posted well at the start however very poorly signposted on route with very long grass and dead trees to deal with. Suggest gum boots and don’t forget the mozzie repellent. Infrastructure eg picnic table in need of some love. The toilets are well stocked and clean.
Luisa W — Google review
Amazing wetlands which are well kept and easy to access. Beautififully clean toilets. Great bird hide - shame about the hooligan damage. We saw 29 bird species, umpteen invertebrates and it was very quiet. We were the only 2 people there during our midweek visit. Can't wait to go back again.
Vivian H — Google review
Wonderful conservation area. The boardwalks that cover nearly half of the way around the wetland walk are well maintained but can be a little slippery in wet weather. The remainder of the walk is on grass tracks that are very well maintained. Be aware in summer it is a wetland and the mosquitoes are fierce so be prepared for that. The bird hide is on the far side of the wetland from the carpark and is very well appointed with multiple viewing portals and seats that can be moved around. Any bird lover could spend many hours here.
Ian D — Google review
Easy walk of 2.2km of the wetlands loop. Beautiful views of the Water lily pond was breathtaking view. It’s a huge swamp covered from flowers and it smelled heavenly. Huge eucalyptus trees and different native trees are located everywhere. Wearing water resistant shoes is recommended as path is wet in some places. A map can be obtained from the cupboard near Carpark bill board. It helped to identify different places of the wetland.
Chathu K — Google review
An incredible, underrated conservation area. Well maintained and a paradise for bird lovers. We also saw monitor lizards and snakes (latter were too elusive to capture on camera). There is also a lot of history behind this place on how the original inhabitants lived there lives. Overall, breathtaking experience. Highly recommended.
Pranav — Google review
I haven’t to come here for ages and last week was a day. We were not disappointed. A lovely 3km walk around the wetlands with a walk up to Spring Hill Lookout . Clean toilets and plenty of places to sit.
Rose-Anne M — Google review
Lovely walk, great bird hide and well maintained surrounds. I love the signs around the path for the self guided tour (for which you can pick up a brochure at the car park.) Good spot for birdwatching, don't forget the binoculars!

Coorabakh National Park

Great scenery, well made lookouts over superb views of the valleys below. Road a little rough but OK, especially for 4X4 SUV vehicles. Picnics spots and tables at some lookouts. Road could be difficult if very wet.
Peter S — Google review
If driving would recommend suv.. not suitable for small cars and better to go one a sunny day. Beautiful drive and lookout
Hansita D — Google review
The signage from the moorland turn off is terrible. We drove around for an hour before finally finding the 2wd access point. We walked the caves trail which was very nice but there is really nowhere to park your car near the start of the track.
Ashlee F — Google review
Awesome views!
Marcio — Google review
The road is unsealed most of the way. But beautiful views.
Shamira T — Google review
This park is scenic and is a pleasant drive through the forest. There are numerous lookouts and picnic areas along the journey. There is not a lot in the way of walking tracks though, with most walks being no more than 10 minutes duration. Highlights are the Newbys and Flat Nellie lookouts, and the picnic area at Stars Creek.
Darron G — Google review
We spent a nice day getting lost at Coorabahk national park. we started in through Hannam Vale and Watui. We enjoyed the forestry aspect of the drive and arrived at Watui Falls. Watui Falls was an easy 100 meter stroll off the road It had rained over night so it was a little slippery but beautiful little spot. We explored the area with our 3 kids who loved climbing around and down to the bottom of the fall. Now to get down there its rocky and steep I would not recommend for Nanna or grandpa unless they are fit and and agile. This would be a really nice place for a picnic and a dip in summer. only one side of the picnic table seat and bbq has not be serviced in a very long time and there are no toilets until you get to Starr Creek. So from Watui Falls we headed up the mountain in our Kia Carnival as we drove along there is really no decent places to take pictures of the picturesque mountains of big Nellie and little Nellie. It would be great if the state parks actually did some cutting away so you could enjoy the intimidating scale of these extinct volcanoes. There is one spot where there is a lookout called Flat something we didn't stop for that. We endesign up just going through to Starr Creek where there is a great little 2 min walking boardwalk through the forest. Easily accessible for everyone to enjoy. From there after a much needed bathroom break at the local long drop. We headed out apparently you can go to little Nellie to your right and do a little adventuring. You will come out to a 4 way intersection we it's very disoreientaring. we went right and came out at Lansdowne. Overall it was a really nice family time. Enjoy your journey.
Sara H — Google review
National park drive is lovely. Road better for suvs or 4wd if you continue on to Waitui Falls. All the lookouts easily accessible and magnificent views.

Horseback Riding Tours
The best weekend getaway with amazing horses only 4 hours from Sydney. The owner (Kathy) really cares about her horses and it's a pleasure to see her working with them. True horsemanship!!! All horses are forward going, reactive and good to ride. I got to ride Nadal, such a lovely, big horse. The scenery is gorgeous and dinners absolutely delicious. I can definitely recommend Southern Cross Horse Treks to all experienced riders!
Elise K — Google review
I traveled twice to Australia, more or less just for doing the horse riding at Kathy's Southern Cross Horse Treks. It was fantastic and I would love to go there again! The accommodation is clean, cosy and with a great view to the horses and there is a pool for hot days. All horses (and dogs) have a special character and they love to do the treks. Kathy does a great job both as host and as a caring owner of all her horses and dogs. I can definitely recommend these riding holidays if you can ride and enjoy nature. It's an overwhelming feeling when cantering along the lonely beach, riding through the rain forest and crossing small rivers.
Nadine — Google review
Great horses, great location. Some days are spent riding along serene forest trails, others splashing in the breakers on a pristine beach. The horses are mostly Arabians, and live up to everything you’d expect from the breed; swift and surefooted, with tireless stamina. The two brumbies are also heaps of fun to ride, with great personalities! The forward horses and wealth of opportunities for canters and gallops make it an experienced rider’s delight; but Kathy can also arrange gentler-paced rides for those who want more leisure to enjoy the lovely scenery. The accommodation is very comfortable - you can warm up by the fire in winter, or cool off in the pool in summer - and the food consistently delicious. Plus there are dogs to make friends with! I’m sure I’ll be back again.
Katrina E — Google review
Amazing hostess, mouth-watering home cooked meals, some of the fitness horses who are treated like family, super cool dogs and a home away from home accomodation. What more can we ask for!? Hubby and I just finished a 3 day horse riding adventure (hubby just ran the trails) with Kathy and it was one the best holidays we’ve had. We stayed at the cabin behind the main house which was beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable. A great place to retreat after a long day’s ride. The riding is by far the best I have experienced having been to pretty much most places within a 5 hours drive from Sydney. Kathy’s horses are extremely well cared for and are fit and forward. I rode Toby and Dream - both of whom are well suited to my experience and such a pleasure to ride. The trails Kathy took us on were beautiful and what a great way to see another part of Australia. The food that Kathy cooked were super delicious too. The perfect meals to recharge our bodies with. Kathy - You are such an inspiration. A big thank you from Thomas and I for your hospitality. We both had an amazing time. It was the best riding I have done and we are so glad we found you! Looking forward to coming back again in a few months.
S P — Google review
I had been wishing to ride with Kathy for some while and finally was able to align the stars to make it happen. Kathy’s place is warm, welcoming and relaxing the moment you arrive. After a restful night sleep, delicious continental breakfast, it was time to meet the horses. They’re wonderfully well looked after and beautiful to watch in the herd. Kathy’s rides cater for the experienced rider who are confident on forward, super fit, spirited happy horses in open terrain. Expect long fast canters and trots and hours in the saddle. After each day, returning to a fire, warm shower, delicious dinner and comfy bed is a dream… only to wake up the next day and repeat. Thank you Kathy. Cannot wait to return!!
Naomi D — Google review
I have had two long weekend rides with Kathy, both of which have been amazing! Her horses are incredibly well trained and fun to ride, and are fit enough to tackle the long days on the trail. The scenery in this part of the country is fabulous, and you can ride to some incredible viewpoints. A lot of the riding is through woodland trails which are very peaceful, with a good range of local wildlife to spot along the way. Kathy’s hospitality is also wonderful. The house is a great place to wind down at the end of a long day in the saddle, and you can see the horses in the field while relaxing on the sofa. I thoroughly recommend riding with Kathy, and can’t wait to visit again.
Lydia M — Google review
The most amazing horse riding holiday ever! Horses are happy and well looked after. One of the very few places that cater for experienced riders. You ride in small groups in all paces and speeds. Accommodation and food are of very high quality and Kathy, the owner and guide is professional and lovely. Highly recommended.
Gitti S — Google review
This is truly my happy place and I love coming to Southern Cross Horse Treks. If you love beautiful scenery, well loved horses, great accommodation, more than a "trail ride", a fabulous host (Kathy) and rides on beautiful fit Arabian and Brumby horses this place is for you. You will be blown away by Kathy's daily rides as you trek through beautiful Australian bush - no two days are the same. After a good breakfast start fresh in the mornings on a horse specifically chosen for you and your comfort then gallop, canter, trot, walk through amazing scenery. Meet up with the team for lunch (as all meals are fully catered for) then back on the horse for the remainder of the day. Finish off the day with a sun-downer as you sit next to the outdoor fire pit gazing over the misty paddocks. Highlight is the spectacular beach ride - one not to be missed. Check out photos on the website and examples of daily rides - you wont be disappointed!

Plaza Theatre

Movie theater
Fun & Games
Mainstream films shown in a long-standing, old-school movie theatre with statues and velvet couches.
At Laurieton’s Plaza Theatre, going to the movies again feels like a special occasion, with a sense of grandeur and wonder in the rich 1930s style movie-theatre decor. Projection and sound quality are all absolute 21st century standard, while the deep, plush seating and lavish vintage ambience of the auditorium and more intimate smaller theatre encourage full immersion in the movie experience.

I got charged $90 for my 6 yo/3yo/2yo There drinks and popcorn plus mine were $34 i paid $54 for tickets??????? Usually qtleast 2 year olds are free? Definitely won't be back. Update- I've tried contacting them via phone and they do not have a phone number that connects to there line. So no way of contacting them unless I come back down.

Beautiful theatre as you walk in the foyer you go back in time to the golden ages of film. Then walking into the theatre just wow at all the decorations to behold.
Debbie W — Google review
I spent summer's during the 1990's going to this theater while visiting my grandparents. My family and I have such incredible memories of going here seeing many films which are now considered modern classics. Visited recently and the theater is still better than ever and really captures what made this experience so special.

What a fantastic experience to view a movie at this cinema. It's like going back in time. Their movie selection is terrific, very up to date and such a variety.

What a delightful spot and nice coffee with it. You can feed the fish for $1 cup of fish food n hear the waves lapping under the table. Not many options for food but I enjoyed a relaxing, dog friendly cuppa

Stopped down the road for a morning tea with friends. Very happy to see this place has reopened. Excellent view. Coffee outstanding. Cake was perfection. Extra care in service and atmosphere. Well done on making this a destination to head for.

This is such a beautiful spot. My son loved feeding the fish and having a play in the water next to the cafe. My coffee was really nice and the service was wonderful. I wish we were locals so we could visit more often

Stopped here for a coffee and cake with my wife. Definitely worth a visit. Great service. Lovely charm. Amazing coffee
John W — Google review
What a brilliant cafe in a stunning location. I ‘d love a ceramic or china cup/mug to drink coffee from, but I understand the restraints of being next to the river and not a huge amount of space, but lifestyle considerations. Food selections are limited but enjoyed my toastie. Watching cormorants dive for fish and watching and or feeding the fish swimming around the boat shed is very special. The view over the river and mountains is spectacular.

The food was absolutely amazing, and the service was so warm and welcoming. Surrounded by stunning views, it's the perfect spot to catch up with friends or family and enjoy a delicious cake and coffee by the river! thanks guys Belinda

Timbertown

Timbertown is a recreated timber settlement that offers a nostalgic experience with its steam train rides, stables, and sawmill. The attraction hosts seasonal events and provides educational and entertaining activities for visitors of all ages. While some reviewers express concerns about the maintenance of the site, others fondly recall their childhood memories spent at Timbertown. Visitors can enjoy various rides such as horse-drawn carts and tractor rides, as well as interactive experiences like panning for gold and gemstones.
Kids enjoyed train and tractor ride but disappointed as there is no horse carriage because the horses are retired. We really love and enjoy in timbertown- animals, historic heritage. We enjoyed how the days were back then. Thank you for taking back to historical times. We highly recommend it. Of course customer service is really good at front desk and also the staff are friendly.
Divya B — Google review
Fantastic place for the family to visit. The steam train was a highlight for my youngest kid and the talking cockatoo was loves by all. The place is really cool, showing how the settlers lived and the various stores and buildings they had back then. Lots of animals to see and interact with.
Matt B — Google review
This was a terribly underwhelming experience. It started with seniors don't get any discounts upon entry (so 4x adult admission was over $130) the information from the receptionist (with the blue hair); when upon paying she informed the group that there was only a train ride and we couldn't walk around the "town" .. this information was delivered rudely and abruptly and we would have left at that stage, had this site not come up in the top 10 things to do in Port Macquarie .... The train ride was 'fun' - there was a fallen log on the track that wasn't there the previous ride, so that was entertaining. You can walk around the town, which is set up well with stories and memorabilia. There are some animals (no bullocks were to be found anywhere) - piglets, emus, ostrich, horses, donkeys, lamas and an amazing parrot that knows a few words. There is a semi working saw mill. Maybe worth $25 admission, but no more than that. Very disappointed.
Bernie L — Google review
Our experience at Timbertown was honestly shocking. The whole park is in a terrible state — barely any maintenance has been done in years. Most of the buildings are closed off, and the few you can still enter are surrounded by overgrown bushes and weeds. The cinema was especially bad — rotting wood, broken glass, and overall unsafe conditions that make you question how it’s even open to the public. The livestock were also in very poor condition. The horses in particular looked mistreated and were kept in filthy, disgusting living spaces. It’s honestly heartbreaking to see animals living like that. The wattlers cottage is In a disgusting state with animal poop on both beds. The steam train felt unsafe too — the tracks look neglected and poorly maintained, making the ride feel more dangerous than fun. On top of that, the front desk service was unacceptable. We were charged for 3 adults instead of 2 adults and 1 child (our 15-year-old), even though the child price should have applied. When we politely asked for the $10 difference back, the lady at the counter was rude and dismissive, simply saying “oh well, too bad.” Overall, Timbertown feels completely abandoned — unsafe, unclean, and disheartening to visit. It’s a shame, because it used to be a great place. I wouldn’t recommend anyone visit until serious maintenance, safety, and animal welfare issues are addressed.
Mdot T — Google review
Not the best day, due to raining earlier that morning. Fantastic stuff, enjoyed the tractor and train ride. You can walk around the place and look at the houses and checkout some animals. Its got twin paddle boat rides, you can even pan for your own gold. Teens loved it, great fun for the family to step back in time...thanks timbertown team 🤩
Syke T — Google review
This is a tragic display of when something that was interesting, educational and enjoyable is allowed to fall into disrepair and decay by new owners. The steam train ride was the highlight, and the driver knowledgeable and personable. The rest was a sad ghost of what would once have been a bustling popular and fun tourist destination.
Karen H — Google review
Horrible. SAVE YOUR MONEY! We spent 130$ just for everything to be run down and blocked off. You can’t go into majority of the buildings. One house we could go into but it was a small hallway and we couldn’t go in the rooms. It would have been nice if we could go in becuase if it was clean it would have been lovely HOWEVER the bedroom had snake poo and the house was extremely dirty. Entire of timber town was not looked after and was un hygienic. Cleanest place was the toilets. Animals are extremely poorly looked after. Tiny spaces for them and small amounts of water. Horses have injured legs and shake every step. The person running the train said infront of children “keep your hands in if you don’t want to loose fingers”. The seat I sat on was not screwed on properly. We were all getting thrown around. It’s a real safety concern. The fudge also was not great. But if you like soft sweets that don’t taste too sugary it’s a good thing for you. They had nice old cars from I belive it was 1920 1930 and 1950. Not entirely sure with the dates but it was anround then. Overall it’s super run down and not worth it. We understand that it’s different than 40-50 years ago but it’s a huge disappointment for the amount of money it’s insane. No hate to the workers. But serious adjustments need to happen or they will go out of business. Moral of the story. READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE YOU GO SOMEWHERE.

My wife and I are very happy that we visited this wonderful place. This historical heritage is in very good condition, it is nice to touch a piece of antiquity. Very good service and a very wonderful driver of a small steam locomotive! This interesting place should be visited by every tourist and resident of Australia, out of 5 points - I give 100🤗

Zoos & Aquariums
Billabong Zoo Koala & Wildlife Park is a popular tourist spot that offers visitors the opportunity to view, feed, and interact with an array of native and exotic animals. The zoo also features playgrounds and picnic areas for families to enjoy. Despite not being a large zoo, visitors can easily spend roughly six hours there indulging in animal encounters - which are said to be brilliant.
Billabong is hands down my favourite wildlife park I’ve ever been to. The staff are all so friendly and the enclosures are amazing. You can get so up close and really see the animals who are all so well looked after and loved. We already cannot wait to come back.
J. — Google review
Absolutely loved visiting Billabong! The grounds are absolutely beautiful and well-kept. The animals spaces are thoughtfully designed, giving the animals plenty of space while still allowing visitors to enjoy an up-close view. The staff were friendly and incredibly informative, always happy to share their knowledge and answer any questions making the visit both fun and educational. Overall, a lovely place to spend the day, and I can’t recommend it enough for anyone who appreciates animals, conservation, and a truly well cared for environment.
Izzy A — Google review
We had a great day. Zoo Keeper Kristie was especially helpful in coaxing the Snow Leopard out after seeing us waiting patiently for him to come out. We did the Cheetah Feeding experience which was awesome. All of the animal info sessions were well run and informative. There were not a lot of people on our visit, so we didn’t have to jostle for a look or good position to take photos. All staff were friendly and helpful. Thanks to the whole Billabong team for making our day memorable.
Mark S — Google review
7.9.2025 This is an amazing facility; the enclosures are all spacious and the animals appear happy and content. There is a walking path around the park and write ups / QR codes for all the animals. The new additions with their pool are gorgeous and we got to see them swimming around on our trip. You can pay extra to encounter a koala or hold and python. Only down side was the hand sanitiser was empty upon exiting the kangaroo enclosure.
Bernie L — Google review
We had the best experience at Billabong! Every member of staff was kind, friendly and seemed to genuinely adore the animals under their care. Caitlin delivered the best koala experience we could have hoped for. It’s wonderful to support a facility like this, would recommend.

If your going past 💯 stop in for a visit the keepers and staff are the nicest people. This zoo is awesome the animals are happy and relaxed it's got a great atmosphere 😀.

Wonderful zoo. Australian themed but with a few of the favourites including lions, cheetah and some beautiful birds. Great day out.
Rod E — Google review
Our uber driver recommended this place as we were on our way to the koala hospital that’s near it. We are so thankful they did because we had one of the best experiences ever. It was a quiet day pretty much the zoo to ourselves but we had the best time. The animals seemed very well kept and the staff has so much passion for what they do. Feeding the kangaroos was an experience i’ll never forget. At the end of our day we met the owner Max and he was extremely kind and shared some amazing information. The whole family helps out and it’s just a great place all around. Thank you again to Max for everything!

The area offers various activities such as dolphin watching, visiting the Koala Hospital, exploring hidden rock pools and rainforest boardwalks, and admiring the tallest waterfall in NSW.
This lookout offers absolutely stunning views! If you’re anywhere near the area, you can’t miss it. It’s the perfect spot to take in the landscape, snap a few photos, and just enjoy the moment. Great place to stop and take a break – totally worth it!

Second light house on my visit to Australia. Port Macquarie is a nice place with several areas to go and see the sites as well as sit and relax. This one was easy to find parking and casual stroll about. It is winter in Australia at this time so it can be a bit cool and breezy so keep that in mind if visiting (although during the day while the sun is out, it's not that bad)

We stopped here 2yrs ago and the upgrades they have made are A+! The elevated board walk is magic, the extra seating is a great addition and the anchored binoculars are a wonderful idea (they could have been a little taller and there could have been a set on every observation deck). Beautifully restored and maintained. We got to see some whales in the distance and the binoculars definitely helped!
Bernice M — Google review
Such a lovely view of the sea. From the top of the cliff, this small light house section gives you a panoramic view of the sea. Both sides of the sea stretching across kilometres. A must visit point to sometime in the area !

Whether you drive straight to Tacking Point Lighthouse or take the 3 hour coastal walk from Port Macquarie, the views here are stunning. The lighthouse is automated these days with LED lights though that does not take away from the nostalgia and history. There are many placards that detail the history and sights. During certain times of the year, you can see whales migrating up and down the coast. If you want to can walk down to lighthouse beach or have a picnic on the grounds.
Soniqbuoy — Google review
Fantastic views from the top where the light house is situated with the ocean braking over the rock formations, the beach is awesome Getting to the top of the Lighthouse requires climbing some steps. There is some car parking at the top and bottom of the Lighthouse. Well worth a visit

Had such wonderful experience at tacking point! First time there and we will definitely be going back, so peaceful, I just wish we saw some whales or dolphins but maybe next time

Great views & interesting historical lighthouse. Limited parking & if mobility is not an issue, park at the nearby Tacking Point beach & climb the stairs up the lighthouse.

We had the most amazing 3 day ride at Bellrowan Valley Horse Riding. From the moment we arrived the service was second to none. The horses and all the animals were exceptionally well cared for and loved. Thank you Julie and Mark for creating memories that will last a lifetime xoxo Leanne

Just back from the most amazing weekend away at Bellrowan Valley and wow - these guys have it down to a tee! We had the pleasure of enjoying an overnight stay, and we all agree it really was the most relaxing, fun and refreshing weekend we've had in years. The only problem? One night isn’t nearly long enough! Mark is kind, genuine and filled with knowledge, and trust between Mark and his "mob" of horses is an amazing thing to witness. The horses themselves are a joy to ride – fit, great movers and easy to feel comfortable on. The rides are stunning, weaving through bush, rainforest and farmland, and if you’re an experienced rider, Mark allows for quite a lot of fast-paced riding, meaning you get to cover even more of his stunning property and get to enjoy these horses’ gorgeous forward-moving gates. We also saw the team take out a few beginner trails during our stay and though some were really nervous beforehand, every single rider returned looking confident and extremely happy after their ride. The food is spectacular (especially the fresh-baked damper!) and cabin accommodation just perfect for the atmosphere – all topped off with an open fire and a roaming rainbow donkey! Thank you so much Mark, Julie and team for the perfect getaway. We’re so sad to be back to reality but already planning our return trip!

Wonderful experience!! Being first time riders, we where nervous going in but Mark and staff helped make it an unforgettable experience. Everything was handled in a professional and enjoyable manner. Well trained and beautiful horses, thorough training before the ride and the ride itself through the bushlands - PERFECT!! Highly recommend.

A great horse riding experience! Beautiful scenery, horses and very helpful staff. Loved how the ride catered for experienced riders and learners, all had a ball. The kids fell in love with their horses and the goat, cockatoo and little Bob the pony. Will definitely be back again. Mark and Julie really know how to give you a top riding and farm experience.

Three girlfriends and I, with mixed levels of experience, went to Bellrowan last Sunday and absolutely loved it! From the 4WD ride to and from the property, the horseriding and damper bread at the end, the whole experience was great. We separated from the group with Julie as our guide and she was great! She catered to the two of us that were either new or a little nervous about riding (even got us trotting comfortably), as well as the two that were more experienced and we all had a great time. It's very evident that both Julie and Mark love what they do. My favourite horse riding experience yet! Definitely worth a visit if you're anywhere remotely close by!

Mark and Julie are wonderful hosts. Whether you're a novice or an experienced rider, you will enjoy riding and exploring some of the most beautiful scenery in the Greater Port Macquarie region. We truly had a wonderful experience and the kids did too. We will definately be returning.

What a amazing place. Just returned from an overnight stay and ride at Bellrowan. The staff clearly enjoy what they do, the horses are well cared for and Mark and Julie's passion for their horses shine through. Love the way the horses are matched to the riders level of experience and how everyone, from beginners to advanced are catered for! Can't wait to return for our next trip.

An absolutely stunning property!!! Horses are in beautiful condition and you can tell the staff really enjoy their jobs. Bellrowan Valley is a hidden treasure! The attention to detail that was delivered to each and every guest was amazing to me. We all recieved the ride we were capable of. There were beginners to experienced all on the same ride. Can't say enough about this truly amazing trail ride we experienced. 10 STARS +

I recently went on a rainforest walking trip and it was absolutely breathtaking. The forest impresses with its sheer power and ancient beauty — you can truly feel the timeless energy of nature all around you. The walking trail itself was stunning, winding through lush greenery and showcasing so many fascinating plants along the way. The atmosphere was incredible: peaceful, majestic, and full of life. It’s an unforgettable experience that reconnects you with the raw beauty of the natural world. Highly recommend!

Beautiful rainforest walk, very well designed and about a bit more than 1 km long. We didn’t see many animals, but the nature and atmosphere made it a lovely experience. After the walk, we stopped at the café which was excellent – great food and drinks! We had a cappuccino and bacon with eggs, both super tasty and freshly made. Definitely worth a visit for a peaceful walk and a relaxing coffee break

Lovely staff, all super friendly and helpful. I strongly recommend to spend some time at the bar and immerse yourself while grabbing a bite/drink. There are several tour options, although you can also purchase the boardwalk alone. In July there are some aboriginal tours going on - photo enclosed. They also sell plants if you want to bring a vivid memory back home and grow it fondly 🌱 Recommended!

We visited Sea Acres Rainforest centre and did the board walk today and it was magical! We were told at reception where we would see a Powerful Owl, and then spotted it perched on a tree branch which was amazing to see, definitely would not have seen this if we weren’t for the help! The walk is beautiful at every point and the trees were breathtaking! We also met Graham, who is a volunteer at the centre, and asked us if we had any questions about the place, we asked about the fig trees and he had all the facts, we learnt so much! He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable so special thanks to Graham! I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Hello Koalas Gallery & Gift Shop is a must-visit during the annual Hello Koalas Festival in Port Macquarie. The festival features an exciting Koala sculpture trail with 88 adorable sculptures scattered around the town, including inside iconic local buildings. Visitors can also join the thrilling Hello Koalas Treasure Hunt, where they race to find and snap photos with 40 koala sculptures based on clues.
We visited Port Macquarie and the hello koalas trail a year ago. My koala obsessed 4 year old at the time was living her best life finding koalas everywhere. We are definitely planning to return at some point to find the ones we didn't see last year. She still talks about it and I show her and her little brother photos and she loves looking back and choosing her favourite. We ended up seeing 56 of them on our travels.
Cazz T — Google review
I highly recommend anyone travelling around Port Macquarie to visit the shop. The shop has a good selection of quality souvenirs and a room displaying a collection of Hello Koala sculptures. The proceeds from the shop will also go to koala conservation projects, so I really don’t understand why anyone would leave a bad review. I think those who did are looking for some kind of touristy experience and mass-produced junk? Nevertheless, If you love Koalas and want to support koala conservation, please support the shop.
Phil J — Google review
It’s allready a couple of months ago that i visited this unique place in Port Macquarie. The owner and creative mind behind the project Margret is very friendly and told me more about the sculpture trail and how it all started. It was great to have the map and I went on a small koala hunt myself. I think it’s very much fun to do this as a family with your kids, but I also really enjoyed this by myself as a solo-traveller from overseas. Unfortunately didn’t find all 91 sculptures, but the koala’s definitely brightened up my stay in Port Macquarie!

With our recent trip to Port Macquarie, entertaining our 1 year old was a concern. The Hello Koala activity kept the whole family entertained as we walked around and explored the area. I wish we had more time to find all of them. I can not recomend the activity enough. We will be back to see if we can find more.

I went here to see the painted koalas, which were situated in and outside of the shop, which is part of the Hello Koalas sculpture tour. The sculpture tour takes you all around Port Macquarie. The gift shop was filled with lots of koala merchandise.

The Koala Conservation Hospital Port Macquarie is a small rehabilitation center that offers tours to the public. Visitors can meet adorable koalas and learn about their care and preservation for free. The hospital also has a gift shop and offers a Feed, Walk, and Talk tour every afternoon at 3:00 pm.
I recommend going early when the koalas are still active and having their mealtime. It was heartwarming to see how the unwell or injured koalas were cared for. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the volunteers were doing an amazing job. During our visit, there were four joeys, and it was wonderful to see them all. Evans, an injured koala on a special diet, was a delight to watch as he enjoyed his meal. The educational section was also excellent, providing interesting koala facts and valuable knowledge.

Such a wonderful experience! The family enjoyed it. Good to see we have hospitals for these beautiful animals. They even have a store with cute items to buy. They also have a heritage onsite with cafe with memorabilia. Highly recommended!
Frank B — Google review
What a wonderful place for rescued Koalas. When you visit in the morning when the Koalas get food they are awake. Since September 2024 the hospital needs to charge an entry fee because people weren’t donating enough. An adult pays 12,50$ to treat the sick Koalas. We loved the visit and only met very kind volunteers.
Jules S — Google review
An amazing experience! We gained fascinating insights into the organization’s work at the Koala Hospital. The dedicated volunteers were incredibly knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions. We were lucky to spot a few koalas, but it’s clear that the focus here is not on showcasing the animals for tourism but on their protection and care—huge respect for that! The hospital will be closing soon, but there is a koala breeding center on the other side of the city, run by the same organization. We were encouraged to visit for more valuable insights. I highly recommend a visit—thank you for your incredible work, and keep it up!

We visited the hospital with the family on a thursday morning. The best option is to go early, as they get food in between 8.30 and 9.00. They also get food in the evening. We didn’t book a tour guide but Maz was around and gave alot of information. We could ask all and any questions about the koalas and their way of life. It’s great to support the hospital as they so take care of them with care. Would recommend a visit!

Fun day out. Fun for all ages and abilities. Pick strawberries from the fruit walls for a fun activity or just come in for lunch or afternoon tea at Cafe Red. The scones are delicious. There is a shop full of specialty produce, some form on farm, some local and some from a little further. Featured on many nationwide TV shows and represented in many Agricultural shows this farm is a winner. Most recently, I've the day this review was written, Ricardoes won 1st Prize for their Favorino tomatoes at the 2025 Sydney Royal Easter Show. See the entry picture attached. Local family farm, went here in December and not much Strawberries left at the farm. The kids enjoyed the experience. Charge per kg more expensive than fruit shop of course. The scones and their strawberry jam are so good, definitely recommended.

It’s a really nice experience to visit this place, especially during the strawberry picking season. We went when it wasn’t harvest time, but we still had a great time. The little one loved searching for and cutting the strawberries. The place has several greenhouses with walking paths, and at the entrance they give you a small basket and scissors to pick your strawberries. Inside, there are friendly signs reminding visitors not to eat the berries before paying, as everything is grown with care and effort. They also have some hydroponic products, a café or restaurant with good service, and plenty of parking. Behind the main area there’s a short path leading to a small pond, perfect for a quiet walk. Overall, it’s a simple but very pleasant experience to enjoy with the family.

We didn’t do strawberry picking but had a with lunch on way to Sydney. Ordered scones which was really very good… best in the world according to UK 🌟 Fettuccine was average, nothing great. No vegetables only sauce and that too not much. They can do with a bit more pasta sauce.soup was nice though… along with a warm bun. Also bought tomatoes 🍅 and chutney. We also like to buy seeds for tomatoes but it wasn’t available…. Nice place to stop on way to Sydney 👍

Easy to find, not too far off the freeway but far enough that it’s quiet. Lunch was delicious, I had creamy mushroom and garlic with Turkish bread and it was delicious, my sister had the bruschetta and was also delicious, we both also had a strawberry milkshake- delicious. We also shared some scones with strawberry jam and cream- delicious. We bought tomatoes that tasted like real tomatoes- delicious and although we didn’t have time to pick strawberries they did look amazing. Highly recommend popping in

It was fully overcast when we arrived but as we walked glimmer of sunshine made their way through the clouds. The wildflowers were in rare form including wattle, bottle brush and paper daisies. They were quite a number of people there that were just quietly enjoying the time overlooking the ocean with the intense waves. The highlight, were the whales that were feeding off the coast. Unfortunately, they were too far away for my phone camera to take any photos.

They were doing maintenance and some areas got fenced off when we went there on 25 Dec 2021. Didn’t have toilets. But the view is pretty nice. Would recommend finishing these maintenance matters and adding a few amenities such as public toilets and shaded sitting areas. You actually have the space for these things.

One of his old cars and a restored caravan are there too.... a lovely Cafe too! Well worth the visit

Great place with helpful staff. Plenty of maps and guides 👍
Michael K — Google review
Need some signage on main road that this is the VIC and not just the Slim Dusty Centre. Place look abandoned because you cannot see carpark from road. And please add a good map to the Visitor Guide
Kim M — Google review
We had intended to enter but didn't go into the centre because we needed to use a toilet first, and found the amenities to be so disgusting that we left immediately. It's a bloody poor show for the local community. You expect tourists to be interested in supporting the place ? They won't if the toilets cleanliness is literally shitfull !
Ed L — Google review
Friendly staff, especially Christine at DNAAG (Dunghutti-Ngaku Aboriginal Art Gallery) and Allan who had put aside an original piece by a local artist, after we couldn't buy a similar piece at Yarrawarra in Coffs Harbour. We ended up buying a few more originals to bring overseas after Covid. Place is very clean, will certainly visit again. By the way, the toilets were very new and clean.
Mala S — Google review
Given very good information of interesting places to see and do from their staff member Mel. We need to keep these information centres open because the local people that work here advise you of more places by them than what you would find online.

Quaint, octagonal 1891 beacon with a winding staircase & overnight stays at the keeper's cottage.
Absolutely beautiful light house. The ocean view from the top was magical. The ocean looks like it's been painted. Plenty of parking area available and an easy drive to get there. There were few kangaroos in the area. They were friendly. The view of the other hill side was fantastic too.
Bibek A — Google review
What a beautiful spot! The views are amazing and the hike was very do-able and while steep both my wife and I had no problems. We love historic places like lighthouses. There was even a local sunning near the accommodation. 🦘
Dean O — Google review
The lighthouse near South West Rocks is pure magic. ✨ The energy here is electric… alive with ocean breeze, rolling waves, and quiet wonder. We even got a special visit from the whales, gliding past like something out of a dream. 🐋 Why battle the crowds and costs of Byron (beautiful, yes… but busy!) when this hidden gem offers the same breathtaking beauty with a soul-soothing calm? The views are unforgettable, the air feels different… wilder, freer… and it’s the kind of place that reminds you how extraordinary the world can be. 🌊 A must-visit for anyone who loves beauty, nature, and a little spark of magic. ✨
Kylie B — Google review
Absolutely stunning view with views of the whales jumping around. You can stand for ages watching them play. Didn't see a way to get into the lighthouse itself and tour the inside of the lighthouse. The hill up is definitely steep but only a short walk really. I just took a few breaks as a severe Asthmatic.
Faith C — Google review
The lighthouse is part of the national park area. About 7 Km's from the main road to the old gaol. It's a steep walk from the carpark so be prepared. Great views make it worthwhile.
K M — Google review
Smokey Cape Lighthouse is a short drive from the main road. Plenty of parking. Accessible parking available. The walk upto the Lighthouse is steep but the views are spectacular. There's walking tracks to the beach. There's an open area with picnic tables and toilets on the upper grassed area above the carpark over looking the beach in the distance it's family friendly. It is accessible by walking up a few stairs or walking closer to the top of the carpark to get on the path. Fish Rock Dive Centre is a top choice for diving enthusiasts and marine life lovers. The center prioritizes safety, providing excellent equipment and clear instructions for an unforgettable underwater experience. Divers have encountered numerous sharks up close and marveled at the stunning Fish Rock cave. The friendly and enthusiastic staff ensure a fun and memorable adventure, making it a rare and highly recommended experience for anyone seeking an extraordinary dive excursion.
Dived with Pete and his crew on the Australian Day long weekend. They were always on time, the boat is new and adapted for diving. Amazing diving sites. Spotted leopard sharks, turtles, school of rays and numerous school of fishes. The snacks offered on the boat and Pete’s histories are also a highlight:)

There are many things in life that are rare, and it's those things we need to appreciate. Well guided dives through schools of fish and sharks, having giant Queensland gropers circle you throughout the dive, and most importantly, having dive operators as friendly and as excited to dive as these guys! Can't rate these dives enough, and can't rate the legends who run it enough! Cheers Pete, had an awesome time!
Tristan G — Google review
Welcomed myself and partner by Pete and Bia on arrival for our adventure out to Fish Rock. Hire gear all sorted then meet at the boat ramp for the trip out. Massive amount of rain but Pete assured us that currents from the south were keeping the visibility pretty good. Safety is obviously the first priority of this dive operation, equipment was excellent, instructions and procedures were clear and precise, all we had to do was listen and follow. In the water, WOW! Simple, just follow Pete and everything appears, Grey Nurse everywhere and in your face, friendly and pesky large Blue Groper, lazy Wobbygongs littering the rock bottom even a big school of Kingfish blazing past. After some food and refreshment during the surface interval we were back in the water this time with the planned and much anticipated Fish Rock Cave. No disappointments here, lobsters and more Wobbies galore then as we began to see the light more Grey Nurse silhouettes at the shallow end, Mind Blowing. Thankyou Fish Rock Dive Centre, Pete and Bia for a wonderful and memorable day!
Greg M — Google review
Not to be missed adventure for divers, the sharks and fish are extraordinary! FRDC provide excellent quality gear in great condition, they cater to divers who feel the cold too with plenty of warm wetsuit options. We were given clear dive briefs and a plan to ensure everyone got through the cave safely. We went out on their large RIB which handles the sea and bar crossing very well. We didn't see the hoped for Hammerheads (that's wildlife for you) but I will never forget the sight of dozens of Grey Nurse sharks bisecting columns of Ladderfin Pomfrets within a stream of sunshine. Nor will I forget the thrill of suddenly 'seeing' the rocks underneath me were actually the resting place of a 2m Wobbiegong (one of many, many of these experts in camo to be seen around the rock). So many fish to be seen, cowtail rays, sponges and black coral too. So much pretty stuff on the walls but we spent most of our time shark gazing! We also enjoyed South West Rocks, the off leash dog friendly beaches and the walks in Arakoon. All round great week.

My first boat dive in a very long time and what a day of diving it was!!! Brett was a great guide - a pleasure to dive with, like diving with a friend! Thanks heaps to John for taking us out and making it such an enjoyable morning of diving!! Lovely guy. The grey nurse sharks made me so happy, amazing animals to see coasting around. The cave was breathtaking. Best $150 I’ve ever spent. I’ll be back!!!

A friend of mine and myself went diving with the super crew of Fish Rock Dive Centre about a week ago. It was absolutely amazing!! We saw so many sharks that we stopped counting and they came incredibly close to us. The fish rock cave diving itself was a stunning experience, too. Furthermore the staff was really nice and we had a lot of fun together. We can highly recommend diving with the guys of Fish Rock Dive Centre. It's an unforgettable adventure!!

Great dive, totally recommend! Super organised and attentive team made us feel comfortable on our first cave and shark dive experience. Peter is very knowledgeable and was happy to answer all our questions not only about the dive but also about the site. We had everything we may wish for a nice surface interval: plenty of snacks, tea, coffee and nice talk. Looking forward to go diving with these guys again!

Best dive experience in Australia! Peter (aka Sven), Dave and Larry were all legends. We received an excellent briefing prior to the dive (important when sharks and caves are involved!) South West Rocks Dive Centre offers the chance to explore Fish Rock, a unique dive-through cave and one of the largest ocean caverns in the southern hemisphere. This underwater paradise is home to an abundance of marine life including fish, turtles, grey nurse sharks, and manta rays. The dive centre operates year-round and provides services for visitors from around the world.
We absolutely loved diving here. We were lucky enough to be the only ones booked on for our day and had the pleasure of going out with Kev and Matt. Matt is up there with the best guides I’ve dived with. We got to see a nice variety of animals, grey nurse, cowries, Nudibranchs, blue groupers, beautiful fan corals. And the cave is super fun to go through and explore. We waited a day and booked another 2 day trip to return soon.

An unforgettable diving experience at South West Rocks! We had an incredible time diving with the team at South West Rocks Diving. A huge shoutout to Dodgy Joe and a special mention to sophie(aka Sarah), who took us on an awesome dive — his energy, knowledge, and sense of humour made the whole experience even better. He and Sophie went above and beyond to make my partner feel completely comfortable and confident in the water, which made all the difference. The dive itself was absolutely stunning — vis was not the best but still an amazing dive, heaps of marine life, an abundance of sharks and a super relaxed, friendly vibe from start to finish. Can’t recommend this place enough — we’ll definitely be back for more dives with Joe and the crew! P. S. Forgot his name but the skipper of the viper was also a great guy and made the whole 2 days.

The best run dive shop on the East Coast of Australia, and arguably the premier dive site too. Peter & Kevin are always friendly and helpful, with a great support cast in Mick, Cody & Lauren. Their dive briefs are accurate and their local knowledge of conditions absolutely spot on, with safety always the first consideration with the dive group's capability in mind. We have dived with them 3 years running and cannot recommend them highly enough. This is a bucket list dive location; so many grey nurses, huge marble ray, big cod in the cave, and schools of fish throughout.
Glenn S — Google review
One of the best experiences that is semi close to Sydney, the dive team were professional and took 2 boats out at a time. The cave was amazing. Special thanks to our dive master Andy.
James — Google review
If there were a 10-star option, I’d give the team a solid 10! We went diving on the Viper with Pete, Matt, Gavin, and Mick — and they were fantastic. The crew struck the perfect balance between professionalism and fun, making us feel completely safe and relaxed even in challenging conditions. The first day was a bit tough due to the aftermath of a storm, but the team kept the mood upbeat and turned it into a great time. By the second day, the ocean had calmed, and it was incredible — sharks, stingrays, dolphins, whales, seals, and more. Easily one of the best dive trips I’ve had in Australia. Snacks between the dives were great (especially the instant soup menu ;) )Top-notch service, great people, and unforgettable dives. Highly recommended!
Mi C — Google review
I recently did a double dive tour of fish rock with SWR Dive Centre, and I can’t praise their dive team highly enough. The crew of the Orca including skipper Kevin, and dive leaders Lily, Emma and Cody were incredibly knowledgeable, accommodating and professional. The site is undeniably beautiful and unique, but it is not a simple dive, with strong currents, the cave, and lots of distractions for divers in the way of wildlife. Despite all this, we always felt that we were well prepared and in good hands. All their rental equipment was top notch and suited for the dive. We also stayed at their convenient divers lodge, which was very spacious and a really good cost effective option for the night before a dive. We saw plenty of grey nurse sharks, an abundance of diverse fish life, wobbegongs, eels, black cod, crayfish, and with October being the start of pelagic shark season for the area some divers got a glimpse of a hammerhead or two (I was not so lucky). In transit to and from the dive site the crew stopped the boat to watch some breaching whales. Overall an incredible and unique diving experience and I’d recommend to anyone with an open water certification or above. (I have open water certification with approx 30 dives)

We had an excellent experience with the team here. They are so professional and friendly. We were really well looked after throughout the whole experience. A couple of our group were quite sea sick and they were so helpful. When we got back to the shop they allowed us to have showers at the shop (as we were camping that night) which was very handy. And not to mention the actual diving was incredible!! Has to be one of the best dive sites in Aus!!
Lucy B — Google review
Fish Rock Cave was the dive that wouldn't be (this time!)... Visiting my niece out here in Australia, I came across SWRD for the potentiality of diving the famed cave site. I contacted the shop and spoke with Kevin... This review is not about the dive as it never came to fruition - this review is about the professionalism, attention to detail & personal safety as well as the providing of information from dive temps. to how to get there from Sydney. I want to thank Kevin for his honest opinion through experience and expertise - as my niece is not experienced enough for such a dive/site. I was promptly refunded the deposit and wished well. Thank you for the understanding and I will definitely dive with your shop in the near future - as this is what I look for every time in terms of service as I respond with loyalty. Happy bubbles ✨

Trial Bay Gaol

Mentioned on
23 lists
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Trial Bay Gaol is a well-preserved 19th-century prison located on a picturesque peninsula. It was initially built for constructing a breakwater, which ultimately failed, leading to its use as an internment camp during World War I. The hexagonal structure made of grey granite housed 'good conduct' prisoners and now stands as a historic ruin overlooking Trial Bay. Visitors can explore the history of the gaol and its role in WWI while enjoying the nearby beach and picnic areas.
5.9.2025 This is worth the look, there is an entry fee (seniors discount is available); we visited last week, I believe it was approx $12 per adult. There is a movie that plays which is interesting to watch and gives a run down of the history. There are also 2 audio's that play in the cells telling different stories. You can walk freely around the entire complex and climb up the stairs for an amazing view. There are also souvenir golden coins that can be purchased from the shop.
Bernice M — Google review
I had no idea about the history behind this gaol and how interesting it was. It is a beautiful location with stunning views and some resident kangaroos! If you are lucky and there at the right time you may even see whales! Well worth a visit!
Elizabeth C — Google review
What an extraordinary place. Trial Bay Gaol took my breath away. The view alone is worth the visit… the bluest ocean stretching endlessly beneath you, wrapped in fresh sea air that feels like a gift. 🌊✨ There’s a kind of energy here that’s hard to explain…. the kind you’d love to bottle up and keep forever. The architecture, the history, the wild beauty surrounding it… it all weaves together to create something truly special. I honestly don’t know why this place isn’t more well known, but I’m so grateful I got to experience it. It’s one of those rare places that lingers with you long after you leave.
Kylie B — Google review
11 dollars entry, which I thought was very reasonable. You have the opportunity to have a look in the small museum at the entry. Then you can walk around the goal at your own pace. Make your way up the watchtower for awesome views. The cells are open to walk inside as well as the quiet cells.
K M — Google review
Stunning, old ruins kept in pristine condition. Very much worth the modest entry price. Views forever. An interesting part of Australias history. Don't miss the museum!

Fun couple of hours if you are visiting South West Rocks. The Gail has a rich convict history as well as being used as an internment camp for Germans during the First World War. Great views of the bay from the top of the guard house. Watch the short film before you go in, for a brief history of the gaol.
Mark S — Google review
one of the best highlights for a road trip! An awesome place to visit with a fascinating historical background. The site offers a pretty cool experience and is definitely worth a stop if you’re exploring the area.
Sandeep — Google review
We visited the historic gaol site for a while however it was so windy that it was hard to walk, 80 km gusts driving huge waves on the ocean. The stone walls built by convicts are still standing strong but there are few roofs left. The display panels tell a lot of stories of the prison system of the time and of the time when German prisoners were interned in WW1 as enemy aliens The site is well worth visiting

An extensive display of vintage goods, collected over 50+ years. Very well displayed and interesting collection variety. Enter through a small door to discover a Labrinth over levels including interactive machinery display that the kids loved, rocks and minerals, blacksmithing and a vintage car. This is a quaint little store in a very quiet town. There are gifts here for everyone, definitely worth a look. The whole town is set well off the highway but it is worth exploring. Parking is a little bit limited, but there are cafes near by for you to sit and enjoy after you've bought some goodies.

This would have to be one of the best regional museums I have been to. Situated on the main street, the museum is spread over several buildings. Each grouping is based around a themed area. For example there is a room devoted to a turn of last century bedroom. There is an old barbers shop. A mock up of a laundry, a school room. Each area then has a heap of items relating to that theme. Moving out of the main building you go into a covered courtyard which has stacks of garage, pub and agricultural exhibits. For me the highlight is the push button connection whereby you press a button and the machine comes to life showing you how it would have worked. Beyond the courtyard is an old original Church which is full of religious memorabilia. Do not go here expecting a quick walk through. I stayed for an hour and could easily have stayed for much longer.
Mark B — Google review
One of the best museums I have seen. Give yourself sometime to spend at this place, as there's plenty to see. The nice lady at the reception was very kind & shared plenty of information with us. Ticket price was very cheap so were the gifts. That made me feel a bit guilty for paying so less. Haha!
Chandrika V — Google review
Really good experience! So many artefacts from a variety of time periods! There's something for everyone with everything from clothing to machinery. I was particularly interested in how the advertising and packaging of products has changed over time!
Alicia D — Google review
Exhibits in the Bowraville Folk Museum cover almost every area of folk life in the Nambucca Valley. Some of our more significant displays include a log cabin inhabited by an early pioneer family, the local Presbyterian Church which was relocated to the grounds of the museum and the Boarding House set from the locally filmed The Umbrella Woman which featured Bryan Brown, Rachel Ward and Sam Neill. There is also a working Blacksmith’s Forge and several other items of working machinery plus an extensive display of everyday items from our local area. The fascinating museum building was originally a General Store and was then the Headquarters of the Voluntary Defence Corps during World War 2. It continued to operate a Department Store until the Museum opened in 1970. There is a large collection of newspaper clippings, the most famous from the London Gazette Friday August 19, 1768 with an article about a secret voyage by Captain James Cook. It's a great read. Copies are available for $5.50. The Eve Knight collection lapidary collection features a large range of rocks, crystals & glowing rocks. A Children's Museum is also on the site where they are encouraged to explore the objects on display.

An astounding collection of original military and war time relics. Genuinely mind blown that so many original pieces have made it to this secret little museum. Can be an emotional visit for some, well worth the visit.

Great place to visit and then later to walk the streets of a delightful country Australian town. The museum has grown from a small gathering of former seamen to a fully functional Military museum. Named after the Nambucca Valley's great military man Frank Partridge VC- a local and National legend. The museum occupies the old Council Chambers in the main Street of Bowraville. The collect covers many aspects of Australian Service in battles. The collection includes uniforms, equipment, vehicles, medals, written materials and war relic's. You need to set aside the best part of a day to really absorb the value of the contributions made to keep Australia free. The museum has also assisted others to commence or enlarge their collections. They have a small range of items for sale. Clean rest rooms are provided. Parking is on the main street. Admission is by donation. Helpful volunteers are there 7 days a week during opening hours. The vehicles are often seen at community events such as Anzac Day. After a visit why not come into Macksville where you can visit Partridge St and the memorial garden then go to the local cemetery in Wallace street where signage directs you to Frank Partridges grave after visiting continue onto to Nambucca Heads and visit the Frank Partridge VC Primary School

Byron Bay Bluesfest

Music Festivals
Byron Bay Bluesfest is a must-visit music festival that has been captivating audiences for over 30 years. This year, attendees were treated to an incredible lineup featuring legendary acts like The Doobie Brothers and Jon Stevens, alongside high-energy performances from bands such as Infectious Grooves. The event is well-organized, ensuring a smooth experience for all festival-goers. With improvements like metallic gravel to combat mud issues and a diverse array of food options, the atmosphere remains vibrant and enjoyable.
A group of us were there for a charity event. Easy enough to get to using an uber. It took a little while to get an uber for heading back to Byron, maybe 25 minutes. It had a great laid back atmosphere. There were plenty of toilets and no real waiting at the bars. If you stay at Byron Bay it's about a 15 minute trip. It did have free parking as well.

The Bluesfest is good…. The camping grounds I found challenging. Bit hard to judge as I came down with a rotten head cold the whole entire time. Would go to bed at our campsite approx 12am every nite after each nite of the festival performances but hard to sleep as the smell of diesel and the sound of quad bike and buggy cart motors and toilet cleaning trucks outside our tent/ campsite for an hour was tough going making it hard to sleep and recover from a cold. No shade at the campsite, burning sun pounding down despite sunscreen. No relief in the tent. Hot. Hard to get in and out of the camping grounds to go to have day trips to Byron Bay. Once your car is in the car park it’s a nightmare to get back in and park your car again. Bumper to bumper traffic on the roads in n around the camping grounds as cars in front of us were getting bogged. Very hard to find parking even though we’d booked n paid. Long walk from car park to camp site. Hellish at times. I’m being really nice giving it 4 stars and only taking 1 star off for the tough and patience testing camping and parking situation and diesel smell. I expected “Byron Bay” to be fresh air, but no. Next time if I wanna go to Bluesfest I will book accom hotel or motel in Byron Bay and catch a coach or Uber in for the music festival part.

Disappointed with the organization this year despite how much I love this festival! Virtually no buses, car park was chaos to get out & very dangerous crowd control (or lack of) due to the amount of chairs. Been going for 15+ years and it’s a wonderful event but it would definitely benefit from better operational planning & logistics.

The Platinum Experience was once again an honour. The vibes were high and so many grateful happy festival goers loving every moment. How wonderful to see so many people supporting live music. Hats off to all the crew making it happen! Thank you.

Hard to rate, bands were excellent but the crowds got a bit much. Hard to manoeuvre from tent to tent. Lots of people bitching about people with chairs but when U can't sit on gravel what else do they expect no one can stand for three days!!! Would be good if they just had pathways around the tents so people can then sit thier chairs down but also easy to move around. The buses did take over two hours wait at end of the day which was a shame but I am not sure what else.they could do except maybe keep bars open and some post last band music so people can chill out til the lines go down. Or don't have the biggest bands last...not sure. It was my first and it was quite warm the whole time so no idea what it's like when it's raining lol

Glamping was fantastic. Easy in easy out. No traffic jam. Great facilities. Best way to do the festival. Worth every cent!

Worst traffic management I've ever come across. Waited two and half hours to leave the carpark after the concert. We barely moved 5 car lengths the first hour. No excuses just bad management and for the price of the tickets I would have hoped for better service

I went to the last day and it was a blast. All the acts I saw were epic, special mention to Infectious Grooves (the main reason I went) and also Harry Manx who was amazing. They have metallic gravel now so if it were to have rained, the mud would be either reduced or perhaps non existent, so that's an improvement. Food offerings were ok, beverages outrageously priced but that's standard for festivals these days. Will go next year depending on lineup.
