Located in the charming town of Woodend, just an hour away from Melbourne, Holgate Brewhouse is a bustling pub and microbrewery offering craft beer, modern Australian cuisine, and live entertainment. The venue features outdoor seating for guests to enjoy their drinks and meals. Visitors can indulge in a tasting paddle to sample the award-winning brews before savoring hearty pub fare for dinner.
Amazing food, helpful staff, delicious brew. Spent the night, reasonably priced and comfortable sleeping. No door to bathroom and privacy screen was not what I’d choose, (particularly if you’re in a group) likely limited options in the space but perhaps some kind of curtain solution could be looked at in the future. Would definitely dine and stay again!

We couldn't get a hold of them on the phone to get questions answered. Then we arrived and the photos must of been taken 15 years ago as the rooms are so dated and not maintained. Black mould on windows the glass almost fell out and the draft was noticeable. We had to ask for clean dishes and breakfast on the 2nd day. Best you look elsewhere in Woodend
Noah H — Google review
We had a birthday lunch in the Taproom and it was a great experience. The customer service was exceptional, the food was delicious and all the food came out at the same time. Would definitely recommend for group lunch.
Kat M — Google review
Apparently that’s a Yorkshire pudding and the beef roast had less life in it than the road up here. Chef was arguing his cause, bar staff at least apologetic. Refused different food (no chance), nor a refund. Beers as always are great - had a hand pump marmalade IPA and then the Porter. That’s what got the two stars - one each.
John D — Google review
We stayed in the Village room on a very windy night, windows rattled so we had to stuff the sides with paper for the noise. There were two basic metal chairs to sit on which were most uncomfortable for any length of time. The bathroom had been modernized, however the shower was not satisfactory as the hot water was barely warm. The meal in the dining room was well presented and very nice..
Sue F — Google review
Unfortunately we had a less than satisfactory lunch there last Tuesday. Their email says that go out of their way to make it special. Didn’t happen for us. We waited in the cold and rain for the doors to be unlocked 5 minutes late. The atmosphere was cold and ordinary. The 2 staff were engaged in conversation between themselves and service was also cold and unfriendly. Food was ok. When we left no one said thanks or goodbye. Amazing. Plenty of better pubs around nearby.

Shared Mothers Day lunch with my family. We were allocated 2 hours due to date. Food was served quickly and was very tasty. Would definitely be interested in booking again for a less busy day

The meals were great, but as a vegan there is not much choice. I had the eggplant dish which was delicious!

National park
Hanging Rock is a sacred prehistoric volcanic formation located near the small town of Newham, just a short drive from Woodend. It holds cultural significance for the local indigenous peoples and gained worldwide fame through Joan Lindsay's book 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' and its film adaptation. The windy walk to the summit offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Macedon Ranges.
We had a really lovely day at Hanging Rock today. The climb was spectacular and the views were beautiful. Loved learning the history too. Recommend wearing good hiking shoes/ runners and bringing a water bottle with you.
Addie — Google review
This is undoubtedly a place steeped in mystique, definitely worth a visit. It reveals a story that took place in 1900, when a group of children from a boarding school were visiting this mountain. Four girls decided to explore the rock on their own. One of them got scared and returned to the other children. Three girls continued on their way, soon joined by their maths teacher. Eventually, they went missing. One girl was found shortly after, but she couldn't explain what had happened. After the investigation begins, a series of tragic incidents and suicides occur! It’s chilling! Visiting the mountain can be challenging for people with disabilities. However, they can still feel the full power of this place, the power of this rock, from below! Before the climb to the rock, there is a museum dedicated to this story. This place truly evokes a certain sense of fear, especially if you learn about the history before starting the ascent.

Perfect spot for a relaxing full-day escape! Loved spending the whole day here — the flat-rate parking makes it super convenient, no need to worry about time. There are plenty of picnic areas with great shade and clean facilities. The walking and hiking trails are beautiful and peaceful, surrounded by nature and fresh air. Perfect place to unwind, have lunch with friends, or just enjoy a quiet solo day outdoors. Highly recommend bringing a picnic mat and snacks!

A must-visit for nature lovers and day-trippers from Melbourne.

Magical! We were lucky to do it when it was a low traffic day. I got no other tourists in my photos. We didn't get held up by slow walkers it was a beautiful 20° day clear sky sun out. Magical. I suggest taking a small picnic lunch up and having it at the top. Beautiful! Oh and make sure you at least go on the stairs track. That's where the magic is!
Debbie C — Google review
Great place for a short family hike. Takes 20 min to reach the top. Good facilities for a picnic with BBQ. Cost 15$ for car access.
Marius B — Google review
An absolute gorgeous place to go for a weekend hike, complete with a fantastic cafe for a bite afterwards. Worth avoiding hot days though, climbing the may be challenging for some people.
Nick E — Google review
Nice place to visit with family if you would like to have a short walk with nice landscape view. However, car entry ticket price is $15 which seems to be bit overprice compared to what park has to offer. Its one time go place though...

Funfields Themepark

Water park
Funfields Themepark, situated in Whittlesea just 40 kilometers from Melbourne's city center, has been a beloved attraction since its establishment in 1985. The park offers an array of activities including waterslides, go-karts, miniature golf, and bumper boats. Entry tickets grant access to rides as well as a water play area for kids and barbecue facilities. With 25 rides and attractions, visitors can enjoy a day filled with adrenaline-pumping fun.
Funfields is a confident establishment that caters to the young and old if all ages. There’s a massive area for picnics and even bbqs, an area that can be reserved for a fee so you don’t need to brave the elements. There’s also VIP huts and seating dotted around every area in the park, it’s definitely a must do on a busy weekend so that you don’t have to find bring the whole camping set. On to the rides, majority of the rides are water based, from a simple water slide to an water thunderous ride for 4 people built for speed and adrenaline. On a hot day there’s a line however not hours long so definitely bearable. Most seated rides are part of the entry ticket however most will run roughly 2 mins and yes I have timed it. Their food option is also very decent and not a rip off. Although service is efficient but somehow I feel a vending machine will suffice for drinks. There’s plenty of lockers but get in early to get the bigger sized one if you plan to roam around all day. There’s definitely enough rides and things to do for the full day so it’s a good way to spend a whole day and for burning off that excess holiday energy and when going to the beach is not an option.
Jay C — Google review
It had been a very long time since my last visit to the water park, so I wasn't sure what to expect. However, this time was truly more fun, absolutely fantastic, and genuinely amazing! It was completely different from my last experience. The rides were exhilarating, the atmosphere was vibrant, and I made some fantastic memories. I hope to enjoy the attraction again in the future!
Minh T — Google review
Pleasantly surprised by the upkeep of the park. Good mix of wet and dry rides. Plenty of picnicking options. Would recommended taking your own food as super expensive onsite. Showers and changing rooms very clean. Went off peak and there were no lines.
Semesi — Google review
came on a monday and park wasn’t busy that busy, except there was a bit of waiting at the bigger rides. i spent a last day with my bf here before going on a 3 month long trip overseas and was some of the best fun i had in months. the only thing is that it’s fairly far out to a lot of places, being in whittlesea, tickets are also somewhat pricey
Sue L — Google review
When we went there it was temporarily closed because 17 schools were there but other than that it was pretty cool. Would love to come back here again. And the food was served was pretty delicious
Mikhail M — Google review
We were meant to celebrate my son’s birthday at the park last weekend, but unfortunately the weather had other plans. I just wanted to share how impressed I was with the team for making the call to cancel the day before, it was thoughtful, proactive and really appreciated. Zac was so lovely on the phone and very professional. We’ve been to Funfields are few times over the years and can’t wait to re-book my son’s party and get back there when the weather is better. Highly recommend.
Bec N — Google review
The new addition of the Lazy River, bumper cars and VIP Huts really add a whole new dimension to this park ! The Huts are well worth the extra money - it felt so private and comfortable with lounges and even a fridge to keep the drinks cold ! The shade and the location really do make them priceless. Kids can’t wait to go back again 🥰
Nicole T — Google review
It was great day with kids , plenty of parking , great seats and tables inside the theme park , take your own food and drink , spent the whole day picnic and play, should definitely visit again when open for next season

Tahbilk Estate Restaurant

we had a lovely late lunch on a warm sunny day at Tahbilk Estate restaurant. The outdoor terrace is facing the backwaters of the Tahbilk billabong, with views across the water and into the wetlands, with a bottle of Tahbilk's Marsanne, we simply sit back and admire the natural beauty of this lovely place. The food is as impressive as the view, my baked Trout is one of the best I have had, staff is friendly and efficient, we enjoyed our lazy lunch very much, definitely the highlight of our short stay in Nagambie.
E H — Google review
Decided to stop in for lunch. We were not disappointed. With a few tables available we were set for a great lunch. Awesome service and delicious food. We decided on the Pepperberry Pork belly with a side of green beans Then dessert was Red wine poached pear and the Apple crumble.
Martz B — Google review
Location is pristine, right by the side of billabong with peace and tranquillity. Food is delivered fast and tastes marvellous, friendly customer service and particularly liked the way staff explained the history of the place and the menu. Beverages are unique and pleasing. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming. Ample parking space to accommodate large crowds. The drive is beautiful to the venue and by itself offers a unique experience.
S C — Google review
A fair bit out of the way but definitely worth it. Outlook over the billabong. Lovely spacious interior with beautiful wood detailing and superb decor. Tables well separated. The atmosphere was 6/5. We shared an entree which was new to the menu and was delicious. Wife had Barramundi and I had Beef Cheek. We each had a glass of superior quality wine. We each had dessert and shared a glass of dessert wine. I had a coffee. The meal was outstanding in every way. Presentation and flavour top notch. Quantity just right (not too small!). Service was that nice laid back Australian style where they look after you, friendly without being too familiar and you feel good about it. It wasn't cheap but this was one of the best meals we've had in a while and it was definitely worth it and the travelling a bit further.
Chris M — Google review
Warmly greeted on arrival, were shown you our table. The menu fantastic almost too much to choose from. The arancini balls Devine, ciabatta with balsamic vinegar excellent. Beef cheeks cooked to perfection, just melt in your mouth. Great wines, including 2017 1860’s Shiraz. An absolutely amazing experience. Would recommend highly
Craigie V — Google review
Had a wonderful time here celebrating my birthday! The restaurant itself was lovely, the food interesting and delicious and the service very friendly. Unfortunately I forgot the name of our waitress but she had blue and pink split dyed hair. Anyway, she did a great job and answered all our questions happily. We had the special Good Friday 2 course meal including one glass of wine for $65 pp. This was very reasonable, we were just a bit sad that the wine that was included in that price didn't necessarily include something we liked 100% so we went with the next best and then in addition ordered a bottle of moscato which we highly enjoyed. The pink moscato was so delicious! We had a variety of food between us 4. We tried the lemon and sage pasta, the roast lamb, the truffle croquettes, the meat platter and the cheese board. We were very satisfied with everything. We honestly had such a great time with our friends here. After our lunch we headed for a walk behind the restaurant looking at the wine fields. We are not from the area but we will certainly return when we are again! 🍷🧀🥖

Stunning location with peaceful billabong views, delicious food, and warm, attentive staff. A must visit in the region!
Satish T — Google review
I had lunch with my friends at Tahbilk Estate Restaurant. We ordered House Made Mushroom, Parmesan & Truffle Croquettes $21 (there’s nothing special about this dish) Roast & Brined free-range chicken breast $40 (chicken is tender and juicy) Tahbilk Seacuterie plate $68 (this plate comes with 3 pieces of oysters and 3 pieces of prawns and salmon roe crème fraiche) it’s very pricy compared with what we get from this dish Chargrilled 230g Angus Eye Fillet Steak $58 (this quality steak was cooked to perfection) Sweet potato chips (this is my favourite item from the table) Overall, service is not up to the standard. Need to call the server to top up water and server told us they don’t have anything to pack for our left over sweet potato chips)

Very sobering to do the walk and see how many Australians were sent. Respectful and fitting public memorial.
Bronwyn G — Google review
A great display providing details and insights on the Vietnam War, a number of military items on display, worth a stop to visit and read all the panels of information.
James T — Google review
A nice walk in the nature, there’s lots of trees and park benches. The walk looks quite new especially the bins, benches, and water tap. There’s lots of information to read up on the history of Australia’s participation in the Vietnam war. You can take the time to remember the lives and efforts of all the people and dogs who fought in the war. There’s many in depth explanations of Australia’s operations in Vietnam, and there are ranks and military weapons displayed.

Very well put together honouring all who served in the Vietnam conflict. Maps of Vietnam.

Such a beautiful place for an outdoor wedding, stunning forests of tall trees, with open clearings in bush areas for ceremony and photos. Michelle is so lovely to work with and open to ideas. The open lawn areas are perfect for bring your own catering with plenty of room for photo opportunities.
The B — Google review
My now husband, Francis, and I recently had our wedding at Kinglake Forest on 8 March 2025. Our experience with the staff at Kinglake, especially Donna, was incredible! As we all know, weddings can be overwhelming and at times stressful, but working with the team at Forest Weddings felt like a breeze. They made the process of wedding planning fun and enjoyable. We can look back on it fondly, and that to us is priceless. Donna was extremely organised. Being organised people ourselves, we felt reassured knowing that the team had our back. Their communication was seamless and clear at all times. We are so grateful to be able to look back on the wedding planning process and smile. The wedding day was the best day of our lives! Donna worked with us perfectly, ensuring we were comfortable and driving us up and down with the buggy. She made us feel calm and relaxed with her positive attitude. We knew we had made the right decision when we chose Kinglake Forest as our wedding venue. Sometimes, it is not even about the place—it is the people and the team you trust that make the difference. We will remember this moment for the rest of our lives. Thank you, Donna, Ben, and the Forest Weddings team! We know you are no longer hosting weddings, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Regardless of what comes next, we have no doubt the staff will thrive in whatever they choose to do.

Awesome fun. My son and I loved it. The staff were very patient to encourage my son to finally step of the edge of the tree top and down the zip line. It’s a huge step for him overcoming a fear of heights.

Awesome place for a school camp or group camp if you want to bring people closer together. I had such a great time and challenged myself in many differnet ways. Thanks to Ben, Alex, James, Liam, Ewan, Biz and all the kitchen staff for planning and preparing everything and for making things run smoothly even thought the weather did not want to cooperate. It really was an amazing camp and I hope to go back there some time in the future.

The team was 10/10 - had so much fun, learnt a lot about myself and my colleagues on a work trip! The kitchen staff made food that was faultless!!! I would say the only this I wanted more of was… my time there! Thank you to everyone, special shout-out to Hammo, our “elder”, who allowed me to grow so much! The three days we spent at KFAC was unforgettable! 👌🏼🤩

Had the most amazing day today. Staff so friendly and helpful - patient with my fear of heights so that I was able to successfully accomplish some high rope activities. Black Caviar Statue

Points of Interest & Landmarks
What a spectacular statue for an Australian horse racing icon. The lake behind makes for a beautiful backdrop & there are great cafes around there as well.
Thor W — Google review
The statue is mounted on a dark, polished plinth that bears the name "BLACK CAVIAR" in elegant lettering. The base is surrounded by vibrant greenery and pink flowers, adding a touch of natural beauty to the memorial. The clear blue sky in the background provides a lovely contrast to the dark tones of the statue, making it stand out prominently. The lighting suggests it might be late afternoon or early morning, casting soft shadows that enhance the three-dimensional form of the sculpture.
Koonthos K — Google review
An impressive town, so beautifully maintained, so clean, great lawns and walkways around the outstanding lake view. A few great cafes and restaurants, accommodation options and a cracking looking playground and water park.

A nice statue with a great backdrop of the Nagambie Lake. It's a pleasant addition to the quaint town of Nagambie, and worth a photo and a read if you're in town. Yea Wetlands John Cummins Reserve

Nature & Wildlife Areas
A lovely and very well signed walk right in the heart of Yea. Information centre and picnic tables can be found at the start of the walk. The suspension bridge was a highlight and lots of nature spotting along the 2km trail.
Jo M — Google review
We took an interesting stroll through the Yea Wetlands today. Sadly, the information centre was closed. The initial entry to the wetlands is a bit shabby, but we persevered and it was worth it. Once over the bridge to the north side of the river, there is a lot of variety in the flora. We saw lots of birds. Sadly, no platypus and gladly no snakes. I would like to go back after some rainfall to fully experience the wetlands in all their wonder!
Paul B — Google review
Good all weather paths, well sign posted. Good parking, lots of beautiful picnic spots, and a fabulous school education area. All this with abundant bird life. Today in September we were floating through a magnificent cloak of fragrant yellow wattle.
Marg W — Google review
Yea information centre, BBQ facilities and pinic tables just around the corner before you enter the wetland walk. No water access to wash down BBQ, So if you have a bottle you may wish to fill it up at the carpark, The walk was lovely, The suspension bridge is lovely but wood panels feel abit odd. Lovely native flowers and abundance of information, Toilets located within the information centre, With a huge array of Australian made products
Katrina J — Google review
Lovely wetlands. Nice 2.5km walk on great track. Has a suspension bridge over Yea river. Free entry and a beautiful centre. A must is the 3 minute video of the wetlands.
David L — Google review
Good walking paths through here. Plenty of bird life. It is peaceful here. Small car park.
Christine B — Google review
One of my favourite walks as I love walking through these picturesque wetlands. Easy walking suitable for the whole family and I believe these well maintained paths would also be suitable for wheelchair use. Not an extremely long walk if you just take the circuit but there are ample side paths to explore that all lead back to the main path. Two entrances - one being behind the Tourist Information hut and the other from the carpark. You should be cautious of snakes however as many signs in this wetland indicate.
Don T — Google review
A nice peaceful and relaxing place for a quick lunch or a stroll. There are shaded benches of decent size as well. We stopped here while returning back to Melbourne though didn't go on a walk around the reserve as we were tired. But we went to Y Water Discovery Centre from over the hanging bridge which is a beautiful location for photography. Discovery Centre has interactive and informative displays, artistic items on sale and clean ambulant toilet facilities. The water in the pond didn't look clean, the walk has huge bushes on the sides and so one must have mosquito repellant if going on a gloomy or wet day.

The Museum of Vehicle Evolution (MOVE)

Mentioned on

Museum
Event venue
MOVE is a non-profit museum that exhibits vintage vehicles, such as cars, bikes and trucks, along with driving-related items. Recently upgraded, the museum now showcases a red Gullwing at the front which catches visitors' attention. While the truck exhibit in the rear is comprehensive, some visitors may prefer to see more cars. Additionally, MOVE displays other historical artifacts like telephones, radios and clothing. There's also an interesting collection of Furphy foundry products and history on display.
An incredible spot to visit in Shepparton! The collection of vintage cars, trucks, and bicycles is truly impressive, and the costume display and Furphy collections are fantastic bonus that adds extra charm. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the space itself is quite large — it took us about 1.5 to 2 hours to explore everything. Well worth the ticket price and definitely a must-see!
Frank W — Google review
Surprisingly good range of vehicles, very well presented. Fun experience with a decent (albeit slightly pricey) café just next door. The collection changes as well, so one person I went with who's been before was saying that was a cool feature of the place, and I agree. Some great and rare pieces of motor history.
Zachary C — Google review
I have never been to a motor museum where the exhibits were as spotless as these ones. Everything was immaculately presented. There was a good range of cars, trucks, and very thing in between. Would definitely recommend a visit. Well worth the very reasonable ticket entry price.

So many different things to see! Much more than just cars and motorbikes. A couple of hours passed before we know it. The staff are really friendly and the amenities spotless.

Very cool collection of cars, motor bikes, push bikes, trucks and even buses. Newer models, older models and everything inbetween. Well presented and displayed!
Sean B — Google review
An unexpected great find in Shepparton. Fascinating history of bikes, cars and trucks. Well worth spending a couple of hours. Also an extensive collection of 200 year old clothing.
Angustrom — Google review
Fantastic museum - something for everyone. I'm not normally into "fashion", but the amazing collection of historic bridal and evening gowns, handicrafts, as well as "what every genteel gentleman would wear", is well worth seeing. Also antique sound equipment, and other interesting items. The boys (young and old) will enjoy the classic cars, trucks, fire engines, not to mention the history of the classic LOCALLY MADE "furphy" with some great historic items on display. And if you don't know what a furphy is, all the more reason to visit and broaden your knowledge of great Australian inventions. And when you've seen it all, pop next door for some lunch at the cafe. Or have a chocolate apple!!

Victoria Park Lake in Shepparton, Australia is a popular destination for families and nature lovers. The playground offers various features such as a miniature train, flying fox, giant slides, and shaded sandpit with mechanical diggers. The lake itself was initially swampland and grazing area before being transformed into a public park named after Queen Victoria. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks or bike rides along the lush green banks surrounded by river red gums while observing diverse birdlife like pelicans and ducks.
Nice lake in Shapperton near Wyndham Street. Very clean water. Also there is perfect walkway surrounding the lake. Children's play area is having slides, swings & zip line. The lawn is well maintained.

Myself and 2 mates did the learn to fly fish course with Mitch, was a great couple of days! Mitch has all the skills and knowledge that makes this a tremendous experience on all levels, great company also! We loved it, highly recommend!
William D — Google review
After a few false starts due to Covid/weather I drifted the Goulburn with Anthony. It was a blast!!! Unreal fishing and the control he had over the raft to put me in all the best locations to catch fish was amazing. The only problem I have is working out when I can go again. I recommend it to every flyfisher to do it at least once.
Jesse H — Google review
Ant from GVFFC was a real professional. He knew the Goulburn like the back of his hand. As we drifted along, every spot he said would hold fish was exactly that..... If you are looking for a relaxing day drifting a beautiful river and catching big trout, then you can't go wrong by spending a day with Ant from the GVFFC!
Justin P — Google review
Had the pleasure of a full day drift on the Goulburn river with top guide Lochie. Fished water I never fished before and stop counting the fish I caught after 10 fish. Some quality trout caught, three in the 1 - 1.5 kg range including a beautiful rainbow. Anthony and the guiding team at Goulburn Valley Fishing Centre really know their stuff and know the Goulburn River like the back of their hand.
Daryl C — Google review
Excellent day with great fishing in expert hands all the way. Guided and catered for from start to finish. Anthony knows his buisiness guiding well, and is a nice bloke who goes all out to make it a memorable experience. Would thoroughly recommend Goulburn Valley Fly Fishing, so confident in their services booked a trip to New Zealand with them for 2023

I went for a drift boat fly fishing trip on Saturday 12th October and had one of the best fly fishing experiences I have ever had, a the age of 50! It's a whole different game seeing the beautiful Goulburn river from a boat and fishing from one. Our guide and expert Antony couldn't have been more helpful and knowledgeable, and a great guy to boot!
Ray G — Google review
The guys at GVFFC are simply the best when it comes to fly fishing and guiding the Goulburn, Rubicon, Steavenson and other rivers in the area - nobody else comes close. I was lucky enough to have a day of guiding on the Goulburn recently, and their knowledge of the river is nothing short of incredible. I consider myself a fairly experienced fly fisher, but the level of advice and expertise they were able to offer was really eye opening. Everything from reading the water, to new tactics, to local knowledge of trout behaviour and which flies work best in which conditions - it's amazing just how much they can improve your fishing. To top it all off, they're great guys with a real passion for sustainable fishing. Do yourself a favour and book an experience with them - you won't regret it.
Timothy N — Google review
Came back for a second day drifting this beautiful river that is in the best condition I've seen it in years. So many fish rising and happy to take the dry. An awesome experience enjoying wonderful nature made better by the nicest guides who are a pleasure to spend the day with....

I did the Beginner Workshop last weekend and, pardon the pun, I'm absolutely hooked. Mitch was a great instructor who over the course of the weekend built up my confidence to the point I can't wait to get out there by myself. I'm sure I'll be back for more coaching and hopefully a trip or two with them. Thanks again Mitch and Ant.

Tallis Wine is a must-visit destination with exceptional food, service, and ambiance. The beautiful location offers a casual and unpretentious setting for a delightful lunch experience. The soft background music, great red wine, and stunning views create an unforgettable atmosphere that's good for the soul.
Beautiful venue with service to match. The wine tasting let’s you sample all of the in stock wines before settling into a cosy table with a grand view over the scenic landscape. The food is homely and delicious with something for everyone. Can’t wait to visit again!

It's lovely sitting on the verandah with a glass of wine and nibbles and looking out over the valley. They have set up chairs and umbrellas on the lawn for couples all also looking out at the view. There are tasting platters of wine where you can taste 3 different types for $10, which is a good idea if you can't decide. You can do the normal wine tasting for free. Numerous dips and the breads are home made and quite good. Friendly attentive staff.

A relaxing place to eat, drink and lay back. Thanks to the friendly staff here, I fell in love with the sweet dessert wine - Dookie Hills Botrytis Riesling 2012. Its combination with the raspberry cake is a heavenly taste.
Mslunalai — Google review
Nice try. Lovely venue but food very ordinary and overpriced. Lasagna and Fettucini for $45? Seriously? Anyone can cook that. Their knowledge of the wines was hopelessly inadequate. Despite charging $20 for a tasting flight but not providing any information. Had to ask to read the back label! Won’t be recommending or going back.
Michael R — Google review
Amazing setting in the Dookie hills. Our groups shared a number of plates and drinks. All were good other than the shared plate. $48 for a handful of nuts, bland dip, average cheese and some cheap crackers was ridiculous. Shouldn't have been more than $28 for what was on it. Highly recommend going as staff, the setting and majority of the food are great but I'd be avoiding the shared plate at all costs...

The Benalla Art Gallery, situated in the heart of town, is a must-visit attraction known for its impressive collection of artworks from local and international artists. The gallery hosts regular exhibitions, events, and workshops suitable for all ages. Visitors can enjoy interactive activities such as artist talks and guided tours. One of its highlights is the tapestry of Sidney Nolan's iconic painting, 'The Ned Kelly Series.'
Beautiful art gallery and nice coffee shop too. This place is worth a visit for sure!
Silvia — Google review
Did not expect a smaller regional art gallery to have a varied & great selection of Australian artworks. Free entry! The recent Heide group featuring Sidney Nolan Ned Kelly series & Albert Tucker was really good as was the fire themed artworks by other artists. The older Heidelbeg impressionist paintings in the other smaller space at the back was also excellent. Plenty of free parking at main open entrance on Midland Highway. Google did not get this right & I parked further out. Enjoyed our lunch at the onsite Cafe with picturesque lake views & the single jet fountain. Clean toilets inside. Lovely location within the Benalla Botanical Gardens. The garden is not very big but you can do a circuit lake walk to get a good workout. Weary Dunlop sculpture is located here & there is a mini rose garden with some late summer blooms. A great place to stop, chill & stretch our legs for a few hours on our way to Glenrowan & then Beechworth - driving north from Melbourne.

A small-ish but modern and pleasant art gallery with 2 exhibition spaces. There is a cafe at the entrance. Interesting architecture with triangular windows above and large windows offering vistas of the bridge, river and gardens. Free entry. Ramp entrance - but can be slippery in wet weather. Car parking close by. A good place to visit on damp days..

My older brother and I were in Mansfield to repair one of our ancestors' grave stone and site from 1870. As our ancestors, the Withers family, were one of the original founding families of Mansfield, we went to the visitors centre to see the old photos on display in search of photos we don't have of pur ancestors. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We will be back to do more work at the cemetery. Mansfield is an awesome town. The locals people and businesses are friendly and welcoming. We hope you visit soon.

My usual first stop in any regional town which has an info centre. Almost all have knowledgeable & super helpful, friendly staff. But not this one. The elderly lady had a supercilious unpersonable attitude & just waved towards the brochures display stating "you will find it there". I did not really - as I all I wanted to know was what I could do for just an overnight stay. Google came to my aid later. My 4 stars is for this lovely centre with its interesting & well presented exhibits. The Man from Snowy River memorabilia is excellent & a surprise find. Everything else makes this a mini pseudo art gallery cum museum worth a stop as you enter the township from Bonnie Doon direction. The Great Rail bike & walking Trail passes through 100 metres away & historical society is a stone's throw neaeby. Plenty of parking available.

An Aboriginal art gallery has opened at the Information Centre featuring the works of Jack Macale. Beautiful art set in an intimate space. It will be a permanent feature with new exhibitions opening every few months. The staff at the centre are very friendly and helpful. A new exhibition has been hung featuring Lockhart River Arts artists Evelyn Omenyo and Patrick Butcher Jnr. Evelyn is an elder "Old Girl" who also produces jewellery and baskets and Patrick is an esteemed "Art Gang" member. Both have an international standing. The summer Exhibition features artists from the Nuukurr community from Eastern Arnhem Land.

Great little brewery! We were the only ones in there at 1130 on a Saturday morning and it was great. We could see them making the beer and tried quite a few. The sours were both incredible and worth taking home. Also had two pizzas which came out quick and were delicious!

Our first trip to Mansfield and BIG craft brewery fans, we didn't miss the opportunity to pay a visit to Social Bandit. Situated a 5 minute drive outside of town, we may well have walked had it not being pouring with rain. Arriving at 7pm, we were the only two people for a while until 3 other couples arrived. Beer was good as was the music selection which kept us entertained with guessing the band names and year. Food selection was limited with the usual offerings for craft breweries of wood fired pizza, but was tasty enough. Closing at 9pm, we spent a pleasant enough 2 hours.
Karen E — Google review
Stumbled upon this gem on our way back from the snow, not wanting to battle the crowds at the local town pubs. Such a great environment, great staff and proprietor, and having craft beers to suit a variety of tastes and seasons and displaying the product and method is a nice touch. The playlist was fire, too!

The Ned Kelly Museum & Homestead in Glenrowan is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. The museum offers an immersive experience into the life of the infamous outlaw, showcasing interpretative panels, original pictures, attire, and belongings of the Kelly family. Visitors can explore a replica home on the property and engage with knowledgeable owners who are passionate about sharing their insights.
The history contained in the museum is beyond amazing. We were lucky enough to call in when it was quieter and the owner regaled us with his knowledge of all things Ned - he obviously loves the history of the event/s and it made our visit even more enjoyable! We met Howard (90 year old cockatoo) and his friend Dorothy (the younger woman) which was a bit of fun too. Highly recommend for all ages

A warm welcome and a lovely meal. We visited for lunch on a cold Sunday. It was a quiet day but we were welcomed by friendly staff and a warmed by a crackling fire. The menu offered something for all tastes plus a specials board. We both had a chicken parmigiana with salad and chips. Chicken parmigiana was excellent, the salad fresh and well dressed but the home made chips were a knockout! The hotel has retained the feeling of being the local hotel and this was evident from discussions with patrons. The hotel is unpretentious with good food and friendly vibes. Our gluten free choices were great food was tasty and plentiful and the price of the wines was such good value in the restaurant. What a pleasant surprise not to be charged more than the cellar door price! Great views great ambience could not recommend more highly we certainly will be back!

Had a beautiful birthday lunch. Gorgeous location, delicious food, great service. The honey carrots are almost as good as my nonnas! Bruno look after us excellently. He was attentive and welcoming without being over the top. Didn't feel rushed at all, which can sometimes happen in busier restaurants. Not here! It was absolutely busy, but felt relaxed. Definitely worth a visit, much more relaxed atmosphere than most of the vineyards around here, but still classically beautiful and wonderful ambience.

An absolutely wonderful experience at Chrismont Cellar Door, Restaurant! The food and wines were truly amazing – a perfect showcase of Italian flavours paired beautifully with their elegant wines. I had the privilege of being looked after by Jo, the friendly and lovely owner, who made the visit extra special by sharing the story behind their wines. It’s rare to find such genuine hospitality alongside such exceptional food and wine. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the King Valley – this is a must-do! #ChrismontWines #KingValley #ItalianWine #ExceptionalHospitality #FoodieHeaven #WineLovers #ItalianFlavours #VinoItaliano #CucinaItaliana #EsperienzaUnica #OspitalitàItaliana #BuonVino #VitaItaliana #AmorePerIlCibo #Degustazione

When my parents said they wanted to go to Chrismont's to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary - we all said sure. We even delayed their lunch from end of July to end of September so we could book in. And it was worth the wait. We had an amazing lunch. Great food, great service, great venue. Thank you.

Beautiful grounds for a relaxing meal or drink in the shade. Excellent range of wines and they have a wine club. Caroline was a fantastic host and we picked up some great wines not available elsewhere.

What an absolutely delightful afternoon! High tea at Pizzini Winery was a delight from both a culinary and social perspective. Beautiful surroundings, friendly, attentive, and welcoming staff, delicious food, and beautiful wines. Dietary restrictions were not an issue; they just need prior notice. If you are in the King Valley do yourself a favour and check out Pizzini Wines and the different experiences they offer.

Always have a fantastic experience here. The wines are excellent with a wide range to suit all tastes and budgets. Staff are so friendly and helpful, there's a genuine family feel to the winery. The setting is beautiful too. An excellent quick stop on your road trip or longer visit if you're staying in the area.

Pizzini wines were great, providing a nice introduction to the Italian wines the region produces. We went during winter and Pizzini were one of the few places open on the weekday we went. Special shout out to Giacomo, our amazing sommelier, who happily answered all our questions - sharing his expertise from his extensive study and practical experience, whilst talking us through the tasting. Really great spot, highly recommend Pizzini wines if you visit King Valley.

Had the pleasure to experience a wine tasting with Anthony and Duncan. I not only loved the wines (particularly the brachetto and riesling), but the knowledge, stories, and recommendations to pair for my upcoming dinner parties was stellar! Loved it and will be back!

Our second stop at the King Valley region was at Pizini Wines ~ Italian at heart inspired where we were warmly greeted by Karen; Mario and Isabelle. Seated in such a warm and welcoming environment, Isabelle presented us with some tasters olives; caramel popcorn; chilli popcorn and bread sticks and presented us with the wine tasting experience!! Isabelle was extremely pleasant, accomodating and provided alternatives for the individual pallet . We enjoyed hearing about the growth of the Pizzini family, their passion and commitments to their winemaking dream. The surroundings were nice to. We were lucky to also have a friendly chat with owner Fred and hear about his experience and innovative ways of continuing business during the pandemic. We truly enjoyed our experience at pizzini. Purchased a few bottles of wine at the end and couldn’t resist buying the caramel popcorn + chilli popcorn ~ thanks for the lovely hospitality and looking forward to returning and trying out the cooking school.

Amazing food and nice ambiance. Stopped by here on our way to Wangaratta for a quick bite. We had to come back the next day for lunch, that’s how we loved the food! The wines are exquisite and good value. Staff are great - good customer service and very friendly.

As a wedding photographer, I absolutely love working at Brown Brothers Winery! I've had the privilege of photographing weddings here in all weather conditions - from intimate small ceremonies to big celebrations - and each and everyone has been absolutely breathtaking. What makes this venue truly special is that you can feel that warmth and passion in everything they do. Everyone always goes above and beyond - they're genuinely passionate about good food, excellent wine, and creating one heck of a celebration! This venue truly shines no matter what. Rain or shine, I can always find the perfect backdrop, and the surroundings are always beautifully maintained. Their attention to detail and genuine care for each couple is incredible. You can tell they truly love what they do, and that passion makes every wedding feel so special. I can't recommend Brown Brothers Winery highly enough - it's consistently one of my favourite venues to work at. Highly recommend, Rachael Emmily

We absolutely adored our visit to Brown Brothers planned by Sarah who put together a wonderful itinerary for us! The setting is beautiful and the cellar door is so inviting with the open fire, historical displays, and use of wine barrels to decorate the space. We had the most amazing tasting & tour experience at the cellar door hosted by Jacob who was fabulous at teaching us all about the different wines and how they’re made in a way that was fun, informative, and relatable as someone who enjoys wine but isn’t overly knowledgeable on the subject. He tailored the tasting to our individual preferences and there wasn’t one I didn’t like. We ended up buying many bottles both for ourselves and as gifts after discovering some new favourites. We also had the 5 course degustation lunch in the winery restaurant which was spectacular. Each course consisted of multiple elements that worked in perfect harmony and were utterly delicious, especially when paired with the matching wines. The staff were all incredibly friendly and attentive throughout. Overall I would highly recommend visiting even if it just for a tasting, but definitely check out the range of extra experiences they offer too, there’s definitely more we plan to do too. We’re already planning a return visit for next year as we loved the Milawa region and this winery was definitely the highlight of our trip.

We had a wonderful experience with Milawa Luxe Escape, a collaboration of Brown Brothers and Church Lane Accommodation this weekend. The Church Lane Accommodation was beautiful, quiet and private. At Brown Brothers, we were served the Slow Lunch by Henry and it was such a wholesome experience. We do a lot of rushed meals, so having a slow lunch with beautifully complimenting wines got us to relish the efforts involved. The cheese, cured meats and the accompaniments we received to take with us was lovely too. We brought the 2 matching wines before heading back. The next day we had a slow start, enjoying the Church Lane Accommodation, before going to the Wine Tour and Taste at Brown Brothers’. Rosa was warm, welcoming and knowledgeable in guiding us through our tasting, with great placement to help us take better note of the differences and enjoying the complexities of well made wine. We purchased more wine that we selected from the tasting, that we wanted to share with friends and family. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our weekend in Milawa, Brown Brothers collaboration with Church Lane Accommodation - Luxe Escape. We are especially grateful to the people that made our experience wonderful - Sam, Colin, Henry and Rosa.

We visited here during a nice little day out and had the degustation for lunch, it was a really nice experience and the winery is very pretty, especially with great weather like we had on our visit. The two staff members ( 1 male & 1 female ) who took care of our table were very lovely and accommodating and we received a lovely gift for a recent special occasion which was a very kind finish to our lunch. I really appreciated the extra effort put into accommodating for my nut allergy, I was served my own servings seperate to the others which made me feel very comfortable and safe. Lovely place to visit.

I have had the best day. My birthday and i felt so special. Brown Bros Milawa has always been a favoured destination for me but today, the best. The staff, the food, the wine...nothing was wrong. Everything was ideal: good food, good wine and great service. Service staff are what sells a venue and the staff here today were so friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. My kind of people. I liked every bit of of the menu and recommend them to everybody. Cheers and thanks for helping to make my day so special.

Nestled in a complex of shops, the Milawa Cheese Company is housed in a former butter factory and has become a popular tourist destination. Visitors can sample an array of cheeses at the cheese shop, enjoy local wines at the cellar door, and indulge in delectable treats at the lovely café. The company's success showcases how a cheese factory can transform into an enticing stop for travelers.
It’s a very beautiful place- cheese tasting, cafe, drinks, a lot of sitting area to enjoy under the shade. Recommended! Bought some cheese after trial~ white tea is great ( lychee, rose) for having there or taking away. Ginger cookies are the best one I’ve ever had so far- less spicy and crunchier. Coffee is good.
Ashly Y — Google review
Pretty little cafe with a cheese shop next door offering free cheese tasting. However the brie we bought was already moldy and the other one was nothing like what was offered at the tasting. Spent $15 for a small slice of brie that went straight into the bin. Reading other reviews it would seem that people have a similar experience with out of date cheese. Very disappointing and would not recommend to anyone!

There’s a bakery, a cheese shop, and a restaurant here. You can sit outside on the lawn under the trees, and the shop provides picnic mats for customers who purchase something. Just watch out for the shop’s cats sneaking through the door! The cheese shop offers tastings in the morning, around 9:00–10:30 AM, with more than 10 varieties to try. I especially liked the buffalo milk cheese and the King Rover Gold Cheese, which are the shop’s specialties. They’re soft, mildly salty, and have a lovely smoky aroma.

What's not to like about this place? Awesome service and free cheese tasting experience ... Borrow a blanket, cheese platter and knife ... get your favourite cheese and some wines on the lawn ... 👌👌👌
Jeffrie T — Google review
So many cheeses, lots of cheese related items, chutneys, preserves and pickles. We had a free cheese tasting, the staff were so very friendly and entertaining. Very knowledgeable about the cheese too. Thank-you for a lovely experience. My two favourite cheeses of the few we purchased were the Cooper and the David Brown.
Leigh S — Google review
Unfortunately, the King River Gold cheese we purchased was a huge let-down — mold was clearly visible on many parts of it, it had a strong unpleasant smell, and the surface was slimy. Straight into the bin it went, along with the $15 we paid for it. Judging by other reviews, this isn’t an isolated case, with many mentioning out-of-date products. Very disappointing and would not recommend to anyone
Mehrnoosh S — Google review
After trying their cheeses at the Pinot X Mold festival this year, when we saw the sign for the factory whilst driving down the Hume, we had to stop in. This place is dangerous as all their cheeses are delicious and we ended up spending an ungodly amount on cheese. The cafe seems like a great place to go with a group on the weekend.

Pfeiffer Wines offers an immersive winemaking experience where visitors can learn the art of muscat blending in a centuries-old barrel room. Guests can indulge in premium muscats and create their own personalized blend based on their preferences, while also learning how to use a wine thief to siphon muscat straight from the barrel.
We wandered into Pfeiffer on the early side of a wintery Sunday morning not expecting anything unusual. It was quiet but the fire was warming. We sat down for the 10-wine tasting and the grazing platter. And then, wow! Good wine after good wine and then excellent wine and then the fortified wines. This winery's wines were all to my taste and liking; all rich with character and depth. The lovely Kath and Ann guided us through the tasting explaining each wine and its origin with the passion and personal touch that comes from a family-owned business. Even during the sudden midday rush, we received all the attention we needed. So if you're up for a fantastic and personal experience with good wines all round, make your way to Pfeiffer. If you plan to get there around lunch, I'd recommend making a booking. We look forward to seeing the winery again soon.

What a sour little winery this is! - If you're not a local, don't bother. I was ignored upon arriving, then made to feel like I was interrupting a very important chat. All I wanted was to purchase a bottle of the Gamay for Mother's Day. Plenty of friendlier alternatives in the area. Avoid Pfeiffer is my advice.

Stopped by to try a couple of wines, ended up leaving with a number of rare fortifieds, some reds, some sparkling and fond thoughts of a great experience with Nicola and Toni. They were generous enough to let us try the rares. Great work on making us feel welcome. The location is beautiful, quite rustic and some interesting history. We really enjoyed our afternoon.

WOW! Hands down the best service and experience we had in the Rutherglen region. The winery is incredible, so much history. Wine selection for tasting is varied - which is great, so many different varietals. Staff were so helpful and informed. The bathrooms are in old brandy vat! Can't wait to go back.

We booked in for the “up to ten” tasting experience and what an experience it was. Cathy was fabulous, personable, good humoured and knowledgeable. We were lucky enough to have Jen Pfeiffer drop past to say hi and to share some of the vineyard’s history to pass on her incredible wine knowledge. The tasting room is quite rustic with heaps of history and ambience. This is a definite destination spot when visiting the region.

I popped in a few weeks ago and had such a wonderful experience! A lovely lady called Toni, went through all the wines with me, during a tasting. It was fantastic! She has so much wine knowledge and passion for her work- we had lots of laughs and I learnt so much about wine in such a short time. She made me feel so welcomed. I'll definitely be back again soon and bringing all my friends!

Up there with the top 3 wine tastings that we have done in Vic/SA!! We were hosted by Sue, and I would like to say, what a pleasure! A very informative and personable experience. Sue took the time to ask our personal tastes and then challenged us with new and varied varieties of whites, reds and fortified wines, some of the best in the region! Pffeifers wines estate is not only a beautiful, cared for property but a true gem for a day out or wine enthusiasts.

Love the chocolate 🍫😋😍 Stunning Australian Whisky distillery and wonderful chocolate shop. They make their own chocolates. Great place for coffee and chocolate. There are tours on also, so check it out. Breakfast and lunch are served daily in a beautiful location in the centre of the building. Had brekkie this morning at Corowa Distillery – absolutely outstanding. The eggs Benedict was bang on: rich hollandaise, perfectly poached eggs, and I added a side of halloumi and chorizo that really hit the spot. Service was spot-on – friendly, fast, and welcoming. The setting inside the old Flour Mill is packed with history and charm, and the atmosphere is super relaxed. On top of that, they’re making some bloody good whisky – well worth a try while you’re there. Top-notch food, cracking whisky, and a brilliant place to kick back. Can’t wait to come back for round two!

All Saints Estate is a classic winery experience with a modern twist. Cellar door Tastings are $15 per person, or you can enjoy a whole glass in the restaurant for roughly the same. There's an enticing menu inspired by local produce. Picnicing is encouraged in the formal gardens. There's an enticing line up of entertainment if you want to make a weekend of it. A destination worth seeking out.

I had a terrible experience here. There are so many other wineries in the area that could be recommended before All Saints. I popped in to purchase a Mother's Day bottle. I purchased a single, mid-range bottle from the cellar door. The disdain and indifference my purchase was shown left a very sour taste. I stood there, awkwardly waiting to pay, for an eternity, while the server chatted with a customer about maybe joining the wine club. Every other winery I attended in Rutherglen and surrounds was a warm and endearing experience.

Campbells Wines, with over 146 years of experience in Rutherglen, is a family-owned winery that prides itself on passion and producing modern, characteristic wines. The fifth-generation winemaker, Bill Chambers, embodies the rich history of the region and the dedication to continuing the family's winemaking traditions. The hands-on approach and unwavering commitment to quality are evident in their range of wines.
I had the pleasure of spending a relaxing afternoon at the Sunset Drinks event held at Campbells Wines, accompanied by some of my family members. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, we were treated to a truly memorable experience. We started off by savoring a glass of Campbells' exquisite wine, each sip a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into their winemaking process. The ambiance was further elevated by the mouth-watering meal prepared by the exceptionally talented Chef Nick Gardener from Sticks Catering, who also happens to be the assistant winemaker at Campbells Wines. @chefnickgardner. The culinary delight included succulent chicken cooked in sage butter, perfectly paired with pearl couscous that added a delightful texture. The dish also featured charred corn, heirloom tomatoes bursting with flavor, and a smooth corn cream, all topped with the crispy, savory goodness of chorizo crumbs. To add a refreshing twist, the plate was finished with a pickled fennel and saffron salad, bringing together a harmonious blend of flavors that danced on the palate. As we indulged in this culinary masterpiece, our senses were further enchanted by a gifted local musician Patrick Russell whose repertoire included a selection of timeless classics. Patrick provided the perfect soundtrack to our evening creating a fun and relaxing atmosphere as the sun set, casting a golden glow over the vineyard.
