We popped in to these springs as a diversion on the way back from Kununurra and were really pleasantly surprised. Lovely pool for swimming (even in September) and a beautiful little waterfall. Easy to walk in and out of.
Jan A — Google review
Great small and secluded swimming hole located under a small waterfall. Small, easy walking trail to access from carpark. Cross the shallow stream easily on the walk. Easy climb around to the top of the falls too. Short drive off main road. Approx 3km of unsealed road with some bumpy rocky sections but was safe/open for all cars. Not many areas for sitting/laying down by swimming hole if busy.
Jack D — Google review
Beautiful spot. Definitely worth the drive in. We went in with our Journey outback. Little rough but took it slow. No issues. Has plenty of space to park your van. Also has toilets and picnic area.
Tammie P — Google review
Road in is dirt with many bumps and rocks but it’s only 3km to the car park at which you’ll find undercover BBQ, picnic tables, toilets and then a very short walk to the main pool. You can climb a short distance to the top of the waterfall for smaller pools up top. A further short walk up hill gets to the top of a rock overlooking a beautiful valley. A beautiful spot. Worth a look and won’t take you much time at all.
Krystle C — Google review
Very beautiful and clear spring. Wasn’t too cold either. There was a small snake under the waterfall on the rocks. The walk there from the car park is very easy only 500 m, although it’s mainly walking on rocks and a small creek crossing. The road to the car park is in pretty bad condition, definitely not accessible for all vehicles. There’s a lot of sharp rocks. We saw someone in a hire car park outside before the road got really bad to walk in instead.
Agnete K — Google review
A small and peaceful pool with a waterfall. It could get crowded quite easily but lovely for a quick dip. Easy access from the highway and only a short walk from the car park. There are toilets & a picnic area. You can climb up to the top of the waterfall to some smaller pools. I’m sure this would be impressive in the wet season!
DW — Google review
A great little spring-fed waterfall and swimming hole are located a short drive from Kununurra (toward Wyndham). The waterfall is small but welcoming. The water is crystal clear and cool. The pool and waterfall are located approximately 100m from the carpark, which has enviro toilets and BBQs. The spring is 2 km off of the highway along an unsealed road. There are a couple of shallow water crossings on the track following rain. 2WD cars will make it to the carpark during the dry season.
BJ P — Google review
Short drive from Kununurra town but lovely spot. Quick dip, cold water for a hot summer. Lots of small fishes around but great spot for picnic and chill

Marlgu Billabong

Mentioned on

Nature preserve

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Marlgu Billabong is a stunning nature preserve that offers an abundance of wildlife and bird species. The billabong is home to a diverse range of birds, which can be spotted from the protected viewing area. The scenery is breathtaking with beautiful water lilies adding to the natural beauty of the place. The drive is easy and well worth it to witness this peaceful spot in all its glory.
Lovely quiet little sanctuary, I was fortunate enough to have had the viewing shack to myself for quite some time, the birdie is amazing, no sign of the resident Croc though sadly!
Shane M — Google review
Any time of day, any time of year, there are always birds here. Great walkway, shaded bird hide, safe from resident crocodile. Be prepared as there is no toilet facilities. However, it is close to Parry Creek Farm resort where there are great facilities and great coffee! ☕️😁
Silent T — Google review
Always a pleasure to be there, enjoying the silence and the wildlife around
Vincent M — Google review
Highly recommended. The hide structure is a fairly simple but superb public investment and comfortable for short or longer observation visits. The access ramp would suit wheelchairs and walkers. There are two tracks that intersect not too far from the hide and each connects to the Great Northern Highway. The shorter southern track is a bit rougher and passes by the old telegraph station. The northern track is longer and the relatively smooth ruts take you through low grassland fields. Condions for us were dry (May 21). Scenery here is wonderful and a highlight for our visit. Water, lots of birds, lilies in flower and mountain ranges near and far. Marlgu Billongbong is a must for any Wyndham visitor, possibly Kununurra as well.
Greg T — Google review
Great spot with a hide and plenty of viewing spots. Scenic view from Telegraph Hill expansive. 7km of rough track but easily covered in a 2WD campervan. Best signposted and modern shelters and boardwalk that we come across on our travels.
Richard E — Google review
Listed by the Ramsar Convention for the conservation of wetlands. A brilliant birdwatching site with over 180 species visiting regularly. Can be a tough drive without 4WD.
Donna M — Google review
Fantastic spot for bird watching
Veronica G — Google review
The road in is 7km of gravel. It's in okay condition and we managed it in a 2 wheel drive ford territory. At the billabong there is about 100 meters of board walk with 2 viewing platforms. One is open and the other is set up for bird watching. We saw lots of birds and 1 crocodile Please like this review if it has been helpful.

The Grotto

Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Nature & Wildlife Areas
The Grotto is a stunning natural gorge with a 120-meter cliff face that transforms into a breathtaking waterfall during the wet season. It offers a safe and picturesque swimming spot, where visitors can take a refreshing dip in the still waters. The area features a Tarzan rope that local children use to swing across the water, adding an element of adventure to the experience. A short hike down steep staircases leads to caves, trees, and a small waterfall surrounding the deep swimming hole.
The grotto is a stunning location. In the dry season you can walk around the creek bed and there is still water to swim in. Several sites online had it as a campground but there are no signs saying you can or can't stay here. We did and it was very nice although there are amenities.
Imogen W — Google review
Sign says no swimming - unconfirmed crocodile sighting. Easy enough to walk down and up the 144 stone steps. Beautiful place and interesting stones. Pity about the croc!
Adele D — Google review
Hot, hot, hot! And no swimming in this murky hole until it’s had a flush, but it’s still a nice place to visit and enjoy the views. There are a couple of nice little pools for a dog to have a drink from the water seeping through the rocks. The e steps down are quite steep and no hand rails. Worthwhile if you’re able. I bet it’s amazing when the water is cascading over the edge and into the pool.
Paul S — Google review
The Grotto is a beautiful place for a short hike down a steep staircase along rocks and caves down a cliff into a deep hole in the ground sporting trees a small waterfall and swimming hole. Climb at your own risk as it seems rocks fall regularly. It started to rain when we arrived but we continued anyway and sat in the shelter of a shallow cave in the bottom watching the rain hit the water with lightning above us. Just beautiful. I wouldn’t say it was completely safe however…
K C — Google review
Easy steep walk down to the water (has steps all the way). The water didn’t look that inviting as seen on the picture, so we didn’t swim but other people did.
Agnete K — Google review
Crocky and rocky, there are more appetising falls in the area. Would probably be amazing post wet season.
Jakki E — Google review
Great swimming hole and you can take your dog along to.
Chrizelle Z — Google review
Stunning site however note the stairs are very steep and there is no railing for the lengthly walk down.

Did the 45 min helicopter flight, it was incredibly breathtaking! The guys were fantastic, telling us about the bungle bungles and how they formed etc and answering our questions. We got to see heaps in the 45 mins, we went a fair way! Saw loads of the formations. So interesting how they formed over millennia with all the lines and shapes.
Mary M — Google review
Today we went on the 42 minute helicopter flight through the Bungle Bungles. Amazing experience and worth spending the extra $$$ for the longest flight to see the full range and park. It’s a must do if you have travelled all the way there! Gigi was our pilot who was an excellent pilot and tour guide with a great knowledge of the area!! Ask for Gigi 🚁
Jason M — Google review
Taking a helicopter flight over the Bungle Bungles with the doors off was one of the most exhilarating and unforgettable experiences of our trip. As someone who’s traditionally scared of heights, I was surprised by how safe and secure I felt the entire time. The pilot and ground crew were incredibly professional, reassuring, and clearly passionate about what they do, which made all the difference. The views over the beehive-shaped domes were absolutely breathtaking—nothing compares to seeing this ancient landscape from the air, completely unobstructed. The doors-off setup made it even more immersive, with the wind rushing past and a front-row seat to the incredible scenery below. This flight was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one I’ll be raving about for a long time. If you’re even remotely considering it—do it. The team is outstanding, and the memories are priceless.
Gary S — Google review
2 adults 42 minute tour. Flying and heights are not in my comfort spectrum however the opportunity to see the Bungles from above outweighed any apprehensions. And I’m delighted to say it was amazing, ground crew and our pilot Nick made every aspect easy and enjoyable. The aerial view is spectacular and with the guidance of Nick explaining what areas we were flying over as well as what we were seeing put so much into perspective. A bit of the park’s history completed the picture. Our time in the air covered much of the park and we are both so grateful to have had the opportunity and with such a wonderful company. Without sounding nuts, it is windy up there but the movement of a helicopter doesn’t feel like you are flying. It wasn’t buffeted at all and I’d do it again without hesitation. Absolutely recommend the tour as part of your visit the park.
Wendy T — Google review
A helicopter flight of over Purnululu National Park was not in our original Kimberley budget. Once at Bungle Bungle, we closed our eyes to the cost, and booked the 40+ minute flight. There is a pre-flight procedure that includes being weighed and a short safety briefing. I understand they try and keep couples/ friends on the same flight but it is not always possible. The helicopters have had the doors removed, so a little unnerving, but admittedly the views are breath-taking. Purnululu from the air is shockingly dramatic and beautiful. In one sense you are able to appreciate the scale better from the air, on the otherhand, Cathedral Gorge which we had just visited looked like just a small cleft in the rocks. Probably the best of both worlds is to hike and fly... if budgets allow. Our tour guide pre-booked our flight. The airport was busy when we were there so you may need to plan ahead. Toilets, shaded table and benches and a small coffee and tea station at the flight office. Otherwise basic, but felt very professional.
Zeglar F — Google review
Wonderful experience to fly over the bungle bungles with Noah our pilot. A great way to see the landscape. This was my first flight in a helicopter and he made it a memorable experience. Thanks.Noah.
Tanya M — Google review
Thank you Yannis for a wonderful flight and experience. Noah for such calming manner at check-in, & Echo at first point of contact on booking.Max & Billie
Billie W — Google review
Our 30 minute flight was a memorable experience. Gigi was our pilot; cool and competent, she complemented her flying skills with some excellent commentary. Having the doors off the helicopter enabled us to take some great shots, and made for a thrilling ride. My advice to potential customers would be to do ground exploring before the helicopter trip, if practicable. This would enable passengers to see "where you've been" as you fly over the various scenic highlights, and arguably add to the experience. A memory for us which was worth every cent.

The Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge offers a wonderful experience with lovely accommodation and superb dining. The staff is highly organized and friendly, providing excellent customer service. The camp provides a family atmosphere in beautiful surroundings, offering glamping tents with ensuite facilities. Guests praise the friendly and helpful staff, delicious food, and the bit of luxury in the bush that this lodge provides.
The Bungle Bungles is an absolutely amazing and special place. The APT Wilderness Lodge is a lovely place to stay. It has some of the friendliest and welcoming staff I've ever visited, and the food is fantastic. Not what I was expecting, but in the best way possible!
Nimos P — Google review
Not as good as sister hotel in Bell Gorge. Semi permanent tents could do with sprucing up though they are comfortable enough. Service during our stay was pretty ordinary. Staff were barely trained, albeit perfectly pleasant, and the food on one of our 2 nights was dreadful. Breakfast is a rushed affair, you better be out by 8am, and items that run out are not replaced regardless of the time. I think I'd probably try to stay somewhere else if I returned to Bungle Bungles.
Sebastian L — Google review
This is an unexpected gem out in the middle of nowhere. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Stayed in a tent with an ensuite. Hot shower, comfy bed. The meals were amazing and drink prices are very reasonable for such a remote location. Each evening everyone would meet in outdoor eating areas, the staff would run through the menu and on our last day with had a trip out to the Bungle Bungles, so dessert that night was a dish that resembled the Bungle Bungles. Breakfast was a simple affair, just a BBQ, with plenty of fresh fruit, juice, tea & coffee to grab for yourself.
Leigh C — Google review
Had a wonderful time from the moment we arrived. Lovely accommodation, super hot shower both night & morning. Dinner was superb & was unbelievable how organized the staff were so each table received their meals together. All staff & tour guides were so friendly I will recommend the Wilderness Lodge to all my friends & fellow travelers.
Emily L — Google review
Very cute tents... some cobwebs and a bit dirty in the washroom. Evenings very cold as there is soooo much ventilation in the tent. A real outdoor experience. Pack warm! Food was not great, no options and rather bland in flavor! Pack snacks for sure!
Antoinette E — Google review
In a stunning location, this wilderness lodge has that rustic charm to give that remote glamping experience, (the track in us 4WD only and takes upto 2 hours to do the 64kms) whilst still providing all the modern essentials you need, if you find it hard to disconnect. The staff provide a wonderful experience and are great to be around and the food was exceptional. I would love to go back.

Definitely only 4x4 access, but worth the drive. Lovely friendly staff, eco conscious. Waking to native birds.

China Wall

Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Points of Interest & Landmarks
We found this feature fascinating. Drove around and found several more outcrops of what we believe to be the same vein. The scenery is amazing. Walked the area and found really great views. Followed down to the creek, quite pretty. Only 1.5ks down pretty good dirt road. No entry cost, just close the gate.
Crian M — Google review
This very interesting geological feature is located about 7 km from Halls Creek. It is actually a long vein of white quartz that protrudes almost vertically out of the surrounding land. Due to its appearance, it is often visualised as and compared with the Great Wall of China. It is a bit deceptive because what do you actually see is only a very small fraction because it stretches for many kilometres, appearing and disappearing as it follows natural fractures and resistant quartz bands. It’s somewhat a pity that it is not also recognised by the traditional Aboriginal names of Burraluba in the Jaru language and Mulugunjiny in Kija.
Ross D — Google review
Well worth visiting. Open and close the gate. Easy 2WD short drive and massive area to turn a campervan around. Good at any time of day. No entry ticket or fee.
Richard E — Google review
Interesting rock formation. Small amount of dirt road easily accessible.
John H — Google review
Really narrow freestanding wall. Amazing that it’s just formed by erosion.
Ansairoddbod — Google review
Fascinating and nice to wander around, then tour bus turned up.
Christine K — Google review
My tour guide bring us here, expecting something majesty like the China wall but it's just an OK spot. We spent less than an hour to explore the area. This is a great place for geologist student to learn about the rock. There's no public transportation to go here so you need to bring your own vehicle or rent one. I recommend to go here in the evening around 3-4 pm as it's too hot for me in the afternoon.
Ani A — Google review
A good tourist attraction whose beauty & attraction could be enhanced if some care & attention is given to providing details & facts as to what the wall is, how or what caused it to come into being and clearly state it is mother nature's art work and not man made. Access is via a gate which has to be opened & closed on entry & exit by the visitor. And 1.5km of the drive is on an unsealed badly corrugated road. The wall itself is beautiful and awe inspiring. Quartz in all its glory.

Apart from having trouble opening the door to get in, it's magnetised, this place was great and the lady there was so very helpful with accommodation options and told us about places to see in the area and even offered to call someone about a tour for us. Great service and clean toilets.
Megan H — Google review
Friendly and informative tourist information with typical souvenirs available for purchase. If you are in Halls creek worth stopping in and the toilets are not bad if you need them!
Paul S — Google review
Would be upset if my rate dollars were paying to support this establishment. PS..Geikie is closed...Don't drive out like the conga line of tourists following me did to find it closed with no signals saying so.

One of the best Information Centres around with a wide range of gifts designed by local artists. Staff member was informative, friendly and engaging. Left with a few well priced gifts and souvenirs and plenty of respected local knowledge.

Very helpful place. Definitely worth stopping by for a look see around.

Just a heads-up: be careful when parking at the visitor centre. Our spotlight was stolen while we were inside getting information. Make sure you don’t leave anything valuable visible in your car.

Got in, to get a map, and ended up, through the good suggestion of Mrs. Natasha, to buy the $2 fundraising Wild Kimberly guide which will definitely be in handy plus makes me feel good because I've contributed for both the "Halls Creek Outdoor Art & Culture Project" & to the "Royal Flying Doctors"; Two very fine 'thoughts-made-reality' to invest in. Mimbi Caves Tours

Mentioned on

Caverns & Caves
Mimbi Caves Tours offers an authentic and memorable experience in the vast subterranean labyrinth located 90km southeast of Fitzroy Crossing. Managed by Indigenous-owned Girloorloo Tours, this site is home to a significant collection of Aboriginal rock art and impressive fish fossils. Visitors can explore the caves, learn about the land, and gain insights into Aboriginal beliefs. The nearby campground provides a peaceful and beautiful setting for camping, with excellent facilities including a camp kitchen and ablution block.
Amazing tour of Mimbi Caves by local Indigenous owners. Tour is amazing with story telling, history and the sharing of connection to country. Close to Mimbi camp ground which has amazing clean facilities and site and friendly indigenous park managers. Whilst cave tour is not dog friendly for good reasons, the camp ground is. Good sense of community. Camp ground peaceful and easy to share with others. Amazing scenery and views. Best in Winter months. Highly recommended and would do it again.
Makka M — Google review
The Caves are lovely visit. Be warned the path is very rocky and undulating so if you are unsteady give it a miss. The tour guides are great and have lots of stories. The damper is OK. To be honest I think $70/$90 is a bit much for what you get compared to other Caves.
Tomo T — Google review
Wonderful and fascinating cave system , light was excellent for picking up the beautiful staining on the limestone. Brilliant tour guide, shared stories new and old and took us through an awesome cave system.
Christine K — Google review
An informative and interesting tour with our guide Rosemary. She shared her story and the history of the caves with us. After the tour we sat in a group in the shade and had tea and damper. She spoke some more and we asked questions. Well worth it.
Peta N — Google review
100% would recommend the tour. Rose our tour guide was fantastic! She shares her culture and connected us to her country. The caves were brilliant and even saw some bats. The swim is a must as it is refreshing and a great way to finish the tour. The damper and tea allowed us to sit and listen to Rose explain more about her culture. Thank you for a wonderful day!
Jessica B — Google review
If I was rating just the caves I would give five stars, the caves are impressive but this rating is taking into account some deficiencies with the tour. Our tour guide was lovely and shared interesting stories about the local culture and he had a fun sense of humour. However he was very softly spoken and as we were a large group it was often difficult to hear him. He sometimes provided information before everyone was assembled so again that information was lost. In the second (larger) cave some people got separated from the main group because the guide did not inform everyone that he was exiting via a different route. In the first cave there are stepping stones along shallow water, two people in our group slipped their foot into the water. The stepping stones could be better placed and perhaps a few extra stones placed. The terrain is quite rugged. The campsite is ok but be aware that there is no shelter from sun, wind or dust.
Angela D — Google review
We booked for the 8am tour of the Mimbi caves. Our guide for the tour was Jermaine who arrived at the car park where everyone was waiting. There were 23 of us in total and only the one guide. Although the cave system and the surrounding canyon/area is impressive enough the tour itself was extremely poor….if you are anywhere near the back of the group you will hear nothing….As nice as Jermaine seemed he was either hopelessly out of his depth OR not having a great morning. We decided to opt out of the tour after the first hour and made our way back to our vehicle….at $90 per adult it is shockingly overcrowded, overpriced, understaffed and in honestly very underwhelming. The 8am tour generated over $2000….so it should be so so much better and more professional. I personally don’t think I could ever really recommend it to anyone.
Mike W — Google review
It is a wonderful experience with a great mix of history, funny and sad, the beautiful cave (easy to visit), rock art, cave fishes, bats, other creatures in a beautiful canyon with bizarrely corroded limestone formations in the largest fossil reef worldwide. Rose and Ronnie are great guides with very different styles and stories, both are excellent. Highly recommended!

Danggu Gorge National Park

National park

A walking trail & boat tour are offered through the scenic gorge of this rugged national park.
A really nice day use National Park with easy sealed road access. A few nice walks although the longer ones along the river in the gorge are on soft sand without much shade and can be tough going. The best way to see the gorge however is on the Ranger guided boat cruise that runs every couple of hours. The wildlife is abundant and the scenery spectacular.
John P — Google review
Park is not closed. Don't believe other reviews. There was a sign "road closed" like 800 m before the final car park but for no reason. You can walk it or drive just fine. There are toilets which looks quite new but ugly, without running water and clogged toilets. You can walk along the river on a short walking trail and we even saw one freshwater crocodile there. Beautiful.
Jakub Z — Google review
It's easy to access the Gorge from Fitzroy Crossing along a bitumen road. The walks are well marked and easy to access but the cruise is the highlight for us. A very informative commentary and so much to see and photograph.
Stephen W — Google review
Bitumin road on the way in. Few nasty pot holes so be alert. Majority of the road is good. Walk to Gorge isn't very far. Nice neat public toilets also. Worth a look. Great views👍
Tammie P — Google review
Very calm river to kayak in. Fantastic rock formations. There is a walk along the river as well. Plenty of wildlife: Freshwater crocs, eagles, crane, crested pigeons and other birds. Locals say there's bull shark in the river too which they often catch while fishing. Therefore not recommended for a swim.
Hozefa N — Google review
No boat tours but it is still lovely to see and has inspired many an artist
Susanne C — Google review
Well worth the 20 min drive from Fitzroy crossing.
Tassie A — Google review
We had a walk beside the river and looked at the cliffs. It took about 45 minutes to get to the end. We returned on the track further up the bank. There's a lot of good information boards about the rocks and plants along the way. The road out is sealed but a bit rough.

I was traveling from Broome to Fitzroy Crossing few years ago and needed some information about the area. Staff in the information centre was very helpful and I was able to see much more than originally expected.

Thanks Hazeus for sharing your time while painting the mural of your region. Also thanks to the friendly South African accent girl behind the counter who unlocked the gate for water. Love life!!

Lucy and the team were so friendly and helpful as we decided what to do in the area. On their suggestions we changed our route and couldn't have been happier with the outcome. The bureau is presented lovely, clean and open.

Dimalurru (Tunnel Creek) National Park is a remarkable cave system that offers visitors the opportunity to explore a limestone tunnel carved by a creek. The cave is home to bats and crocodiles, as well as rock art on the gorge walls. Walking through water is required and sturdy footwear is recommended for the gravel and sand.
I loved this because it was different. There were people with torches etc as you actually have to wade through very deep water which I didn’t as I had someone with me who didn’t go in at all. But even if you don’t want to, still go in as there first little section isn’t that deep and looks great! I went in with my phone in my top so it didn’t get wet. I also wore socks to protect my feet which I recommend. It’s basically a massive cave, there are apparently animals in there which I didn’t see. It said on the sign there were freshwaters in there but they aren’t aggressive unless you bug them. I honestly didn’t see any animals. (And wonder how you wouldn’t bug them when you don’t know where they are, as it’s so so dark in there. Only reason I could see was my phone torch and other peoples torches. But it is awesome.. parts you go through water and some parts just sand banks. Quite quick to get up to the bigger and deeper section if your to go through that part. It’s also very close to the carpark. Maybe 5 min walk to the tunnel/cave entrance.

An outback cave experience. It has reasonable information boards well maintained shelters and picnic tables the bush toilets were in good condition for facilities a long way from an administrative centre. There is a difficult entry to the cave which limits access to the disabled, young children and seniors. An adventure to reach and experience.

My hubby did this, and he said it was good. Water at the time was chest high, but manageable, bit cold. Only a hard bit was climbing over a few big boulders in the beginning. Note-make sure you have proper shoes or wet shoes, not thongs, crocs or sandals, due to slipperiness.

September 22 What an amazing walk through the tunnel and a bit scary. You definitely need a head torch and would also recommend shoes as the rocks are sharp even in the sand. Water depth varies each year. Don't be afraid to see fresh water croc that live there. Pretty awesome experience, even got to see some.

Loved it, it is totally worth a visit, however bring a torch and be prepared to get wet.

A different experience to all the gorges and waterfalls. The history of the local uprising in the late 19th century makes it an even more interesting experience

Pretty unique experience to walk through a river cave tunnel with bats and fresh water crocs
