My 3 friends and I had the most lovely morning spent learning about the olive tree caring, growing and harvesting process. Olive oil and olive tasting, complete with each us picking up take home goodies for the family. Would highly recommend this activity to anyone who loves nature

One of a kind experience. We are very passionate about olive oil and olives , its an essential part of our diet. The experience was complete by a guided tour by the the owners whom were very welcoming and friendly and shared informative history and facts about olive planting, olive oil extraction. The tasting was absolutely divine. Thank you guys and very well done love your work and passion about the olives.
Rula K — Google review
We had a great time on the olive farm tour! Bruce and Joo-Yee were both very kind and welcoming. Joo-Yee was especially friendly and talkative — it felt like chatting with someone from back home since we’re from the same country. The tour itself was fun and informative, and tasting the different olives was a unique and interesting experience. We even ended up buying some olive oil and olives to take back with us. Highly recommended!
Kwen W — Google review
Do yourself a favour and call in for the tour and tastings. Tour was done by one of the owners Lovely lady very informative. Products were amazing! Rosemary Olives are to die for! Definitely recommend.
Julie D — Google review
Joo-Yee was very friendly. You can tell that this is a passion for her. We had a lovely visit and an informative talk about olives and how the oil is extracted. Learnt the difference between shop-bought oil and what Grove Olive sells. Good luck with this year's awards. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Sonja T — Google review
Great tour and tasting. Learnt so much from the growing to harvesting to the end product.
Barb M — Google review
Thank you Joo-Yee for taking my family on a tour and tasting. It has been a highlight of our trip. Learnt so much and bought some goodies to take home.

Our stop in Wagga wouldn’t have been complete without the tasting sesh at Wollundry Grove Olives. The table olives and olive oil are delicious, with mandarin infused table olives being a personal favourite. The owners Joo-Yee and Bruce are very personable - we learnt a lot.

Lovely atmosphere, ordered steak sandwich, sundried tomato and feta tart and beef burgers, all were excellent and tasty! Delicious coffee. Staff went above and beyond. Highly recommended.

Ordered the chicken Schnitzel burger that came with a side of chips and salad and it was bloody awesome! Snitz was bigger than the roll, came with gravy and melted cheese. I highly recommend. I would personally maybe add some tomato or cucumber to bring the salad to life a little more but it worked pretty well either way. We will definitely be coming back to Coolamon to taste a few more items of the menu
Daniel H — Google review
What a great place! From the outside you’d think it was just a small shopfront, but boy was that wrong. You enter into a beautifully decorated open room, with lots of table options, it offers a great vibe and a wonderful selection of cheeses to sample too. The coffee and muffin were delicious and we enjoyed the exceptional customer service too! We can’t wait to get into the cheeses we purchased.
Michael J — Google review
A visit to Coolamon to have lunch at the Coolamon Cheese Co. Pleasant experience with helpful staff. Three adults and a child. Ordered two steak burgers and chicken salad. My steak could have been warmer. The ice coffee is delicious. Experienced cheese tasting after lunch. It's worth a visit if you are in the area.
Paul — Google review
Came in for brekkie and thoroughly enjoyed my coffee and smashed avo. Speedy service and lovely atmosphere. Definitely one of my favourites in Coolamon.
Julia — Google review
We stopped in to check out the cheeses and were very impressed. Sarah provided tasting plates and was very knowledgeable about the products including prize winning ones. Her explanations of the tastes and uses were great. The cheeses we tried measured up to her descriptions. She was so helpful. We purchased a number of different, very yummy cheeses and a packet of beautiful Fish River Expresso.
Geraldine T — Google review
I visited with a friend for brunch on a weekend. We were there pretty early and among the first customers. Cheese sampling all laid out and ready for customers. Nice selection of cheeses, jams/pastes and other food and merch items for sale. Menu - really good variety - so much better than it was just after the pandemic, which is the last time I had been up. Pricing - about 28 (protein-based main with extra item, and hot drink) Spacious. Indoor and outdoor dining options. Clean toilets. Easy street parking out the front. This was my third visit and I was pleasantly relieved that the cafe is back to what it was pre-Covid. I remember being very impressed the first time several years ago, then unimpressed not long after lockdowns lifted, and feeling like I would not go back. I am really glad we went, am glad they recovered after the pandemic, and I would add the cafe to any future trips in this district.

Coolamon Fire Museum

Museum
Specialty Museums
The Coolamon Fire Museum muster held in October is an interesting event. Current and Vintage Fire Engines are on display in the main street. The street is blocked off closed for the event. Classic and Vintage Car Clubs support muster with a display of classic vehicles. There are demonstrations from the S.E.S. supporting the Fire Fighters. This is a family orientated event. Something for little kids, parents, and granparents.
Paul — Google review
A retired fireman has built up a collection of memorabilia over 40 odd years and makes it available to the public for free. Happily chats about it to those who are interested. Excellent range of items, lots to see. He was kind enough to let me buy a fridge magnet despite being a touch short.
C X — Google review
This is an absolute must see! Chris is fantastic and a wealth of knowledge. This was a wonderful experience and definitely will come back in again when we come through town.
Alex — Google review
A great destination to visit for the locals who love fire trucks. There's such a great variety of fire engines and equipment to look at, both old and new. The kids and elderly will probably love it too! 🚒🔥🚒
Kevin B — Google review
A great museum in a small country town. The guy looking after it is an ex firefighter and has a heap of information... very interesting and worth a stop
Musketeer D — Google review
Having stopped at Coolamon to visit the cheese factory, we walked past the Fire Museum and decided to poke our head in… well what a fantastic museum. Located in the former fire station, the museum houses a wide collection of fire memorabilia. The owner is knowledgeable and will talk through what the equipment is and how it was used. If you are ever near by, then stop in and discover some Australian history!

Beautiful historic building with plenty of stories and pieces of history inside to explore. Guide at the front counter was a delight to talk to and was also extremely knowledgeable about the building and the town's history. Be sure to get a demo of the Lamson cash delivery rail system, possibly one of the last standing of its kind in Australia

Absolute must-see! Can’t leave Coolamon without seeing the last of its kind cash delivery track systems in Australia! Perfectly demonstrated by a local volunteer. Unfortunately some missing pieces in the history of the town of Coolamon, would visit again! If ever again in coolamon

Junee Roundhouse Railway Museum

The Junee Roundhouse Railway Museum is a remarkable engineering marvel and one of the few operational roundhouses globally. Dating back to the 1940s, it boasted the largest turntable in the Southern Hemisphere and served as the final steam train depot in NSW. Visitors can explore an extensive collection of train carriages with informative displays and witness a diesel engine maneuvering through the roundhouse. The museum also features a large working model train set for enthusiasts to enjoy.
What a great place to step back into time and see these magnificent stream and diesel trains. The best part is that it still has a full operational round house. I believe the only one in Australia. We especially enjoyed the guided tour by one of their volunteers Lee and Dudley. I highly recommend this place for all ages. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed it, even in the winter chill. Make sure to check out their train model display. There is a little bit of history in there 😉
Raffi G — Google review
So much to see. Great to see all these old trains and carriages. Model railway was awesome. Would have been so much better if there was someone to tell you about what you were seeing. Didn’t mind paying and off paid more for a guided tour.
Scoops A — Google review
Have wanted to go here for awhile and I was not disapointed. The guides are full of interesting information and facts. Just looking over the various engines and carriages was so informative. If you are in the area this is a must go.
Michael-lyn M — Google review
Wow this was amazing, seeing all the history displayed for the Roundhouse and then to go inside and see the trains which you were allowed into was incredible. Well worth the entry fee

Discover the delightful Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory, an award-winning destination where you can witness the art of creating delicious sweets. While there, take a break at the charming Junee Railway Station Cafe housed in a historic railway building. If you're visiting on the first Sunday of the month (excluding January), don't miss the Junee Rotary Farmers Market for some fresh local produce.
I loved visiting the Junee Licorice & Chocolate Factory. Seeing how the licorice is made and turned into different products was very interesting. I was glad I did the tour. I bought heaps after partaking in much free sampling of their range. Definitely a highlight of my recent trip to Junee.
Kezza T — Google review
Great venue for an excursion with the family. Lots of parking on the street if the main carpark is full. It was very busy here so unfortunately we couldn’t try the cafe as it was fully booked and there were no tables. Take a gold coin with you as there’s a motor museum next door that requires a gold coin for entry.
Abe W — Google review
I’m so sad I didn’t discover this beautiful place earlier! The dining atmosphere is amazing, the staff are super sweet, and the food is absolutely delicious. The best part is that you can actually watch the chocolate and licorice being made, and then buy the beautifully packaged products right in the shop. Simply perfect! I love this place so much—every souvenir was so tempting to take home. Both the products and meals are very reasonably priced. Such a fantastic tourist spot! 👍

Fantastic information if you can do your. So worth it. More than just a factory, gift shop, whiskey distillery and a restaurant. Fantastic place to visit, meet up and have a great day. Then next door visit the museum of Cars,Mowers, Motor Bikes, plus more.

A fun experience for the kids (and us adults too) to watch the licorice being made. A nice looking on site cafe as well as a shop with lots of licorice and chocolate choices. A walk around the gorgeous outdoor gardens with plenty of seating and photo opportunities.
Lauren W — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had a lovely visit to the Junee Chocolate and Licorice Factory! The place has such a charming and welcoming ambience — perfect for enjoying their delicious treats. We tried the strawberry and chocolate milkshakes, and both were rich, creamy, and absolutely delightful. The gift shop downstairs is fantastic, offering a wide variety of chocolates and licorice to take home — perfect for souvenirs or gifts. I also loved that you can watch the factory in action through the viewing windows, which makes the visit even more interesting. Don’t miss the second-floor shop either — it’s full of kitchenware and Crocs shoes, a fun little bonus find! Overall, a great stop for families, chocolate lovers, and anyone passing through Junee.
Hankerie S — Google review
I found the property and building very beautiful but I waited 45mins for an underwhelming hot chocolate.. being a place where chocolate was made, I expected a better hot chocolate. The place was busy so that could have been the reason….. I am in Wagga for a few weeks, so I look forward to revisiting before I leave to try the wood fired pizza and maybe give the hot chocolate another go. Hopefully it’ll come in the nice tall hot chocolate glass next time.

Rural museum was very nice. It took over 2 hours to walk the whole thing. So many things to see. Id recommend 3 hours for the whole thing thoroughly. Lots of stuff the turn of the century. Toilets on the way. Id recommend taking a snack or two a picnic on the way. Our favourites were the ambulances and fire trucks. also the fossils, stones and shells were all pretty special too!!! Oh watch out for the crocodile he seems very scared!!!!
Crosby R — Google review
I loved this place. They have loads of exhibits. I don't know why there's only a trickle of people through. It's only about 7 bucks
Wi S — Google review
Wonderful. The ladies working here immediately came and helped us within a few minutes of us coming inside when they were fairly busy but gave us amazing tips to introduce us to the area (and gave us excellent recommendations for dinner). And the museum is a gem. Amazingly well preserved history but I couldn't help but be amazed at the gems, fossils and minerals! The detail, the love and the care is outstanding. I could have spent an hour reading everything but it was almost closing time!! Well worth a visit, an absolute gem (pun intended 😉)

Our family of four had a delightful morning exploring the Temora Railway Museum. From the moment we stepped onto the platform, it felt like we’d traveled back in time. The passion and dedication poured into restoring this historic space and transforming it into a museum is very evident. The collection is vast, with exhibits that transport you to the heyday of the railway station. From the intricate signal boxes to the tools and trinkets that once played a role in daily operations. Train enthusiasts will be in their element here—there’s so much to see and learn that you could easily spend days absorbing all the information. One of our favorite parts was the story of "Boofhead," the legendary railway dog. It’s charming to imagine this little terrier with a big personality hopping trains and becoming a local celebrity. It’s stories like this that give the museum a unique charm and character, making it more than just a collection of artifacts. Whether you’re a railway buff, a family looking for an outing, or a history enthusiast, the Temora Railway Museum has something special to offer. We left with a newfound appreciation for the role the railway played in shaping this town. Highly recommend stopping by to experience it for yourself!
Claudia R — Google review
Stop in Temora and have a look at the Railway Station. There is Railway memorabilia on display. The Museum is usually open on Friday. Passenger trains no longer stop at Temora. During harvest there are numerous bulk grain trains passing through. The Station is part of Temora's history.

Opens 1st and 3rd Saturday of month 9-12 & Fridays 9-12. Railyard trail (approx 1.6km) flat easy grade (can do with stroller/pram) open all daylight hours. Great signs to read along trail to learn history. Museum volunteers exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable and happy to spend time with interested people to answer questions. Recommend 1-2hrs for museum and walk. Great kids park nearby with bbq facilities.

Temora Aviation Museum

Aviation museum featuring a number of historic military craft & regular flying displays.
What an experience! Our family spent time at the Temora Aviation Museum, and it was unforgettable. The flight simulators were a highlight—our teenager was absolutely thrilled to take the controls of the Spitfire. It’s amazing that such an immersive experience is so accessible, and the knowledgeable staff made it even better with their helpful guidance and passion for aviation. The collection of working planes is impressive. Knowing that these historic aircraft are not just on display but airworthy adds a whole level of appreciation. The volunteers were incredibly generous with their time, happily answering questions and sharing stories that brought the history of the planes and the people behind them to life. We’re already planning our next visit, especially for one of the flying days. Seeing these planes in action must be an extraordinary sight. If you’re in the Temora area, the Aviation Museum is an absolute must-visit—whether you’re an aviation enthusiast or just curious about the area, it offers something for everyone. Highly recommended!

So lucky to be here to see the Grey Mouse Spitfire take off heading to the Melbourne Grand Prix for a flyover. Great Museum with very friendly helpful staff. Hubby went on the spitfire simulator and had some fun. Now has a coffee shop with nice food and hot and cold drinks. All planes in this museum actually fly as well. Very interesting and worth a visit. $20 adults.

Came here for Warbirds Airshow 2024. The scale is smaller but still enjoyable. My husband enjoyed the day a lot. A food stall sold really bad food though we never expected much. Thanks for the great weather too! The accommodations around were fully booked out at least a month ago due to this event.

Well worth a visit. Friendly volunteers/staff. You can take advantage of one of their flight simulators for only $69 for 30 minutes and they include your entry fee. The on-site cafe has a good choice of food. Allow a couple of hours if you do a flight in the simulator. We did the Spitfire .

If you are a cricket fan you will love this. The Captains Walk is a beautiful walk featuring bust sculptures of all of Australia's cricket Captains. In the centre is a statue of Don Bradman, so grab a photo bowling to The Don, or try your hand at wicket keeping, either way it's a great opportunity for a photo.

I and my family we all like our cricket 🏏, so we went to Jubilee Park, the day is nice 👍. As we walked around,'The Captain Walk' . To see the 47 bronze sculpture at Cootamundra. The Captain s Walk was planned and executed by the Cootamundra Shire Council (now Cootamundra- Gundagai Regional Council) with the approval of the Australian Cricket Board 🏏 (now Cricket Australia 🇦🇺). The first Australian cricket 🏏 team to tour England in 1868, Captain by Unaarrimim (Johnny Mullagh), the leading Aboriginal player. Stage 1, unveiled on 30 August 1998, comprised the likeness of Unaarrimim (Johnny Mullagh). Stage 2, comprising the remaining 30 Captains, was unveiled by the sculptor Tom Bass on 27th August 2008, the centenary of Bradman's birth barely a kilometres away. Stage 3, unveiled on 12 th March 2020, brought the walk up to date with the unveiling of three new busts - Shane Watson , Steve Smith, Tim Paine.

Remarkable tribute to Australia's cricket history. Set in a beaut park in this interesting nsw country town of Cootamundra. Probably needs to start adding some female greats as well!

Fantastic display & super tastefully done. Great stop off on a road trip to stretch the legs. The park where this is also has some lovely play equipment for the kids (both big and small) as well as clean bbqs & tables.

We found this gem by accident passing through on our way to Young. My hubby is a cricket fanatic and i have never seen such joy on his face as we walked through the sculptures of the cricket captains. In his words "the best stop and well worth a detour" Next to it is an awesome park for the kids. Public toilets and picnic spot. The whole town seems very cricket themed.
Betheny P — Google review
The Captains walk itself is interesting but it is also part of a great park with bbqs, shelters, playground, toilets. Great to amuse the kids whilst you appreciate the cricketing history. I learnt a few things as did my Dad and he knows way more cricket than I do. Parking is easy right out front.

Good idea for a small country town! Also encouraging for cricket fans. It is good to know a few more names and their achievements for Australia and the world of cricket. A nice short walk done in a beautiful park and they have all the basic well maintained amenities nearby!

Heaven for cricket lovers.. One of the best places I’ve ever visited in my life. Captain’s walk is a beautiful park with all the Australian Test Captains’ sculptures.. their records and stats engraved on each sculpture. Bradman’s Birthplace is about 3 minutes from here. A great historic place. People in Cootamundra are lucky to be part of this heritage. The park consists of bbq, children play area and a beautiful walking path.

Well organised museum and helpful staff (especially Simon). Housed in the old railway crew barracks, each of the original bunk rooms has a different theme. The highlight for me was the pair of boards containing over 100 miniature dioramas of Cootamundra facts and events created by local historian Jack Mullins (1901-1987). A must-see quirky and fascinating object that is unique and should be the star of the museum. Don’t miss it!

Situated within the Tourist Information centre, next to the Cootamundra Railway station, I rate this to be the best country town museum in Australia by far. Many local displays from different eras separated in rooms with clear information for each item. Free to enter and a free cuppa as well. Well worth the visit.

Bradmans Birthplace

Local history museum

I have seen (Sir) Donald George Bradman at Manuka Oval in the year 1963. With my school to fill the Manuka Oval as Canberra had a small population. Robert Menzies (20 -12 - 1894 to 15 - 5- 1978), Prime Minister, asked if he could 😀 play in Prime Minister 11 because he loved his cricket . Donald Bradman said yes, he comes out from retirement to play in Manuka Oval for the last time. I come from Europe and my country has never played cricket, only football ⚽️. My knowledge of the cricket 🏏 was zero. It took me a long time to understand the game of cricket and how the score counts in the cricket 🏏. We drove to Cootamundra to the cottage to see the room where the birthplace of (Sir) Donald George Bradman, at 89 Adams Street. The cottage was part home of Dr. H.M. Anderson and a hospital, on 27th August 1908 (Sir) Donald George Bradman, was born there were witnesses of his birth Nurse Scholtz and her daughter Ms Scholtz on the day. Donald Bradman's family lived outside of Cootamundra at Yeo Yeo, about 25 km (15.35 miles). Donald Bradman became age 3, and his family moved to Bowral, about 269 kilometres (167 miles). Little facts of Bradman's. The first game of cricket was at 11 for his school at Glebe Park, Bowral. Batted at number 4 and scored 55 not out. The age of 12 played for the Bowral High School senior XL. His second game, he scored his first century, 155 of the team total of 156, and he also took eight wickets. Met his future wife at the age of 12 when Jessie Menzies lived at the Bradman's house. After his wife's death in 1997. Bradman suffered "a discernible and not unexpected wilting of spirit. Hospitalised with pneumonia in December 2000, he returned home in the new year and died there on 25 February 2001. Centenary of his birth, 27 August 2008, the Royal Australian Mint issued a $5 commemorative gold 😀 coin 🪙 with Bradman's Images. To see the cottage that Donald Bradman lived at Yeo Yeo. It is in the town of Temora in the museum. Bundawarrah Centre Temora Rural Museum.

Worth a visit even if you’re not a cricket buff. Lots of memorabilia, articles and history about Sir Donald Bradman and his achievements as a sportsman and all-around gentleman. Attendant was very welcoming and helpful. There is also an adjoining cottage of old-time wares.

What an absolute credit to the volunteers that made this place happen and keep it running. Whether you know cricket or not, you know "The Don" Sir Donald Bradman. to see his birthplace..including a portrait with his parents and the midwife that delivered him. The actual room he was born in...Incredible that it is all still here for us to enjoy. The biggest shout out to the wonderful staff/volunteers who keep it open everyday and their Incredible passion. It's definitely a MUST visit. I'm going back as I was a little rushed for time and need to see everything a little more in depth.

Fantastic. Very informative. Clean. Helpful. Bus tour enjoyed morning tea there. Lots of interesting things to see.
Linda D — Google review
Walked in and was greeted by 2 grumpy old ladies and was immediately told off for bringing my camera as, I quote “PHOTOS ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN” I politely asked why, the first old lady did some sort of eye rolling gesture while the second one went on a rant about people putting photos of the museum on their computers and facebook and that the museum doesn’t make money out of that. I walked out at this point. Photos online and endorsement from visitors to their friends = free promotion which = more visitors. If the museum wants to make more money than perhaps they ought to start with a decent website containing info like opening hours, admission fees, etc… Then they should look at improving customer experience by replacing the Wicked Witches of the West-Wyalong with some friendly and sociable people. Wyalong already hasn’t got much to offer, people don’t owe it to you to stop and come in.

Fantastic camp-site with clean, well kept toilets and gas BBQ. The firepits and picnic tables were a pleasant surprise. Walking tracks are clearly marked, although some may be difficult for the older, more experienced grey/blue haired member of the community. If planning to take tastful naked photography of loved ones on quaint lookouts, recommend doing so in last light, as natural lighting can be a harsh reality shock for all but the fittest hikers.

Julie the staff member was extremely friendly and welcoming. There is a room which sells local produce and some souvenirs. The Lachlan Vintage Village Cafe was fantastic, which is in the same building. The scones were as big as a hamburger, with raspberry jam and fresh cream was only $6.90!!! Milkshakes were only $4.70!! All the staff were friendly. It was very busy. Toilets were clean, there is also a play area for the little ones. A few outdoor tables. Silvia, Congratulations on your latest venture and we wish you well. Will definitely recommend, and will return if in the area

Such an an impressive display of cars and bikes. They have over 60 vehicles ranging from the early 1900’s to a 2015 Holden Maloo. There’s also a great souvenir shop as well as a die cast model shop. I highly recommend a visit to this museum.

This place is a must, it's a full personal collection of the most beautiful cars that I've ever seen. They started in 1961 when they bought their first T model for £25 (a whole weeks wage back then) and have just added to it as a passion of theirs. The couple who own this are selling it all and the building for retirement, so highly recommend going to see before such a beautiful collection is no longer

A beautiful spot for bushwalking and camping. We did the walking track from dripping rock to Nangar lookout, it was a challenge but well worth it. Took us about 3-4 hours from start to finish, however we didn't take many breaks along the way. Great spot for a day trip or weekend away.

Quiet camp by running water. Had problems finding walk tracks, all grassed over, so walked along the roads. Interesting old Orchard and sheds at Cassey farm. 4WD track to lookout Mt Nangar worth doing.

Beautiful national park, just beware that the roads are often fire trails, so some low vehicles need to go very slowly. It is absolutely gorgeous in spring, particularly after the rains, the green hills and wildflowers are unbelievable! It was very striking red dirt too, the Nangar Lookout walk is highly recommended, but I would also love to take advantage of the camping grounds and picnic areas too.

Memorial Hill Lookout, located just a few blocks east of Parkes' CBD, offers stunning 360-degree views of the city and the surrounding farmlands of the Central West region. The lookout is crowned by a striking white memorial tower that serves as a prominent landmark in town. Visitors can also explore the World War II Bofurs anti-aircraft gun originally located at Bushmans Dam.
So very impressed at this site. Quite simple but very moving and in a scenic vantage point that overlooks Parkes and surrounding districts. This 33 meter high Shrine Of Remembrance is fitting to pay respects to all the locals who participated in conflict Also is lit up at night which would be quite a sight to see under the night skies. Good parking. And a walk which I didn’t do but looked interesting.

Located on the Newell Highway in Parkes, the Henry Parkes Centre is a comprehensive tourism complex that houses four museums and a visitor information center. The first group of museums includes the Parkes Motor Museum, showcasing a diverse collection of well-preserved vehicles from different eras, and the Kings Castle Elvis Exhibit, featuring an extensive display of Elvis Presley memorabilia.
A great little stop over, greeted by a lovely lady filling us in on all the goings on related to the Elvis festival. Elvis rhino out the front and a new feature, a replica of Gracelands Gates. Stop in for a photo and see what's happening in Parkes and the surrounding area.

Parkes Observatory

Observatory

If you’re even slightly interested in space, science, or history, Parkes Observatory is an absolute must-visit. Known affectionately as “The Dish,” this iconic radio telescope has played a major role in space exploration, including helping relay live television of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The site is incredibly well-maintained and offers a great balance between scientific significance and visitor-friendly facilities. The Visitors Centre is informative and thoughtfully laid out, with plenty of engaging exhibits explaining how radio telescopes work and the important discoveries made here. There’s also a short documentary playing regularly that gives great historical context and makes you appreciate just how important this place is. The outdoor area is just as impressive—standing under the towering 64-metre dish is truly awe-inspiring. You can get great photos and there’s plenty of signage explaining what you’re looking at. The staff and volunteers are knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about sharing the Observatory’s story. The cafe on site, Dish Café, is also a lovely spot to relax with a coffee or meal while taking in the view of the telescope. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating and the food is surprisingly good for a tourist spot—try the scones if you get a chance! Overall, Parkes Observatory is a fascinating blend of science, history, and natural beauty. It’s well worth the drive and a great stop whether you’re traveling solo, with kids, or in a group. Highly recommended!
DaRcAssan Z — Google review
In your travels North and South up and down the Newell Hwy if your never stopped and taken the time to divert off the hwy to visit the Parks Observatory you are doing yourself a disservice. If your got kids it is especially worth while. Only a hand full of Km north of Parks and about 6km down the side road will get you there. Free entry with most of activities designed and aimed at the kids around 9-14yrs. Lots of photos and interesting information panels for the adults and hands on activities for the kids. The gift shop is A1 with good prices for a wide variety of interesting items to buy. The actual 'dish' is huge and most impressive and you will be amazed. It is still in operational use presently. There is a guided tour available but we didn't do that. This side divert will easily chew up a couple of hours and both you and the kids will appreciate getting out of the car far a very interesting tourist attraction. Got a Cafe there as well. Free and ample close by parking including long vehicles and free entry. Make sure you visit the outside two opposing dishes 70mts apart where if you face into one dish and whisper your partner can hear what you say facing into the other dish. All in all a great little place to visit that will consume no more than two hours of your time and break up your drive. Highly recommend.

Great 3D movie to inform the public about our planet & solar system. Great displays and of course a view of the dish. Plenty of gifts & merchandise with space in mind. A cafe available. Movie was a cost, but everything else was free to view.

Great place to look around to explore and learn some history. If you haven't seen the movie The Dish, I suggest you watch it and learn more about what it does. It's free to go in and check everything out. The whisper dishes out the front are great. You start whispering in them, and the other person over at the other didh can hear you as though you were standing beside them. Awesome place to visit

Parkes Observatory

Peakhill Open Cut Gold Mine

Sights & Landmarks
Mines
Definitely a good place for a walk and is dog friendly. However fair bit of wildlife around perhaps keep dog on leash
Jacks — Google review
An interesting spot to stop and see the open cut gold mine. A free site with a couple of walks. We did the one to the first lookout which was only a very short distance maybe 5 minute walk. There was a ramp that would be suitable for wheelchairs/strollers. You would need to go back the same way as there are stairs continuing on around the circuit. Toilets available also.
Jo S — Google review
It’s really beautiful and a fantastic walk! The amount of history and variety of stunning views over the different sized mines was happily unexpected. There are two trail paths (a shorter 30 minute walk that weaves through the mines, and a longer 45-minute forest walk that circumnavigates the mine property). The boardwalk area near the old ravines is particularly wonderful! I would say the only downside is that the trail markers are complete nonsense and rarely actually help in confirming which path you are on, or want to follow. But the paths are short and it’s a fun walk anyway. If you’re passing through or staying near Peak Hill, this is highly recommended!

Great place to visit, easy parking, especially for caravan. Good signage and easy walk, although a few steps, but very do-able
Nikki H — Google review
This attraction is free. There's enough parking as it wasn't very busy and the parking available is suitable for caravans (a few vans at least). There's a couple of walks to do and several lookout points. Some of the track includes an include. It's a gravel surface track and there are lots of ants around so be careful where you stop for photos. We ended up with dozens of large ants walking all over our shoes as we didn't look down when taking our first photo. I think it's worth having a look if you're interested in this type of thing or you happen to be passing by and it's convenient to stop. I wouldn't go out of my way again to visit it though.

Great part of history and a great walk around the mine. Its free so go visit and just enjoy the walk and amazing colours reflecting from the soil and rocks

Was interesting but needs more historical sheds, shelters, perhaps old tools etc but worth the look

A very interesting museum. The audio devices were a real plus. Then a $7 banjo burger was like going back in time. We stayed at the showgrounds which was also great value. All round we were delighted we made the detour through Yeoval

A quaint museum and cafe, and a very interesting range of displayed items. The owners were charming and very welcoming. My husband LOVED the Devonshire Tea served in the little cafe.

The best thing about this museum is Alf and Sharon the volunteers. They are friendly and entertaining. They are very knowledgeable. Sharon makes the scones fresh every morning and they are awesome. They have real expresso coffee. Lots of the locals just come in for the cafe. This museum fits a lot into a small space. I am not a museum person, so didn't look at too much. They offered us head sets for an audio recording. If you wanted to look at everything you would be here for hours.

A definite must see when travelling through. We visited the Banjo Paterson Museum which was informative with audio guides. Had a Banjo Paterson burger which was delicious and only 5.--, can't go wrong there. We also bought some locally made flour. What I'm trying to say, please support these small towns by spending time and money.

Absolutely brilliant. Lovely to meet Alf and Sharon. Alf took the time to chat with us about some of the memorabilia. His wealth of local and historical knowledge along with his obvious passion for the subject was wonderful.

Impressive Museum. Loved the commentary and history from a time long ago and about our Aussie Icon Banjo Paterson. We also enjoyed the animal sculptures between Molong and Yeoval. Well worth the drive and visit to this historic little town.

A very interesting insight into this life of one of our nation's finest poets and story writers. The food at the cafe was very good and at $5.00 for hamburger plus great coffee well worth it.

Beautiful clean and tidy town.
Julie T — Google review
Not being a sports fan I didn't really appreciate the statue. But the location has public facilities and green grass. The town is lovely - love wide streets and trees. And there is well tended colourful plants in the main street which makes being a tourist enjoyable. Just surprised there isn't more park benches in the main street. Saw a mum and three kids crouched on the sidewalk in the main street enjoying their pies, would have been nice if they could have relaxed in the shade at a table AND the shops are interesting enough to linger. Fabulous looking florist at the other end of town.
Trish J — Google review
Felt good standing next to the statue of one of the greatest pace bowlers in history. I only wish they made it life sized, it looked a bit small, like 5 feet 6 inches, when you know that he was almost a foot taller than that.
Sean K — Google review
I never knew Glen McGrath came from Narromine!! It's a really great memorial with all his stats at the bottom of the statue the only thing is they need another statue at Sutherland where he stayed in a caravan while he played for the local team until he got caught up to the New South Wales State team!!
Patrick G — Google review
Its great to look at but the statue doesn't look like him. I know him and looked at him all these years, he is lot taller and the face and body does not match at all.

Absolutely fabulous and our lovely tour guide was amazing with so much knowledge.
Julie T — Google review
This place shows a part of the history of Narromine from the war days. The Air Force was a big part of Narromine, and this is a great learning experience . To see a part of history and to remember those who gave their life for their country. If you visit Narromine, then this is a must do , you will enjoy a step back in time to see the past as well it is a great opportunity for you to rest up in your travels at the carvan Park and enjoy a drink at the culb.

Great aviation museum run by dedicated volunteers. I didn't realise Narromine had such a rich history with aviation and is still one of the best destinations in the world for gliders!

Wonderful exhibition and collection of Australian air history. It's like walking back in time. Very emotional for those with family and relations in the forces. A place to be proud of.

A delightful, small aviation museum. Very well laid out collection and friendly, helpful staff. Well worth a visit.

Historic plane replica which had actually flown 16 hours flying time. No other examples known to exist in the world. Built in 1999 in Noromine. Can fly speeds of up to 70 kilometres per hour. Dedicated by astronaut Buzz Aldrin
