Aboriginal national park with rainforest & limestone caves teeming with rare little bent-wing bats.
Such a cool thing to do ! Amber loves her job and she transmitted her passion all the way through the caves, we loved it !
Cam B — Google review
Very good experience! I went on a scout camp for these caves and I had a very good time! Most of the caves are very open so people that get claustrophobic easily don’t have to worry. I went through 3 caves one cave we had to abseil into. There is a big walk involved but it’s worth it. Definitely would like to go there again.
Noah S — Google review
The picnic spot was great, needed some shelters though as every table was in almost full sun on a very hot autumn day, but well maintained, quiet and pretty. The 600m self guided walk is awful, don't bother with it! Surrounded by weeds and fallen trees, just a mess and ugly, and the signs are so old most cant be read. That section needs a major overhaul.
Aimee C — Google review
The walking track is well marked, but I am not sure if the rangers have been clearing and burning, but it seems all of the "noted marks" on the path have died, or been killed off. Very strange. The markers describe a specific tree or plant, and that is dead. I hope it is not an act of vandalism. The cave entrance is sealed and out of bounds. I actually walked the rangers 4WD track, and was more impressed with the stands of trees and lush natural areas away from the self guided walk. The facilities at the main start point are well kept and of a high standard.
Brujeria B — Google review
Went with the Scout's and it was exhilarating. Some nice little challenges which kids fly through an 8yr old. A 9 yr old and a 13yr old alll managed with ease.
Graham T — Google review
All signs faded and unreadable not even worth stopping!! Ps long unsealed grave road to get to. Watch out for echidna.

I can not find any cove here but there have so many beautiful butterfly and small walk trail .

Mount Archer

Nature & Parks
Mountains
It feels like a long drive to get up to Mount Archer but it is breath taking once you get up there. I suggest maybe take a picnic though or at least get food and drinks before you go. The view is amazing and the little bush walk is fantastic. There is a little park with a slide and swing for the little ones. It’s just so calming up there.
Amanda J — Google review
Spent over 2 hours at Mt Archer, which allows you to take in the views of Rockhampton and the Fitzroy River. Fantastic views! Great Boardwalk! The road to the top is tarred. There are picnic tables and bbq’s. There are heaps of Grass Trees (black boys) Great place for a family day out! Staying around for a wonderful sunset is a must!
Linda H — Google review
Excellent lookout; well worth the drive. But don't stop at the "main" area (where the Kiosk bldg is), check out the "Nurim Circuit Elevated Boardwalk" which is about 100m away. But (IMHO) do NOT do the walk to Sliepner Lookout!
Stephen P — Google review
Nice view but nothing else. Just for a quick walk to take pictures.
Francisco B — Google review
We only did a small section of the Zion hike and it was stunning. Really well maintained, beautiful views and vegetation.
Matt Z — Google review
Make sure you do the short Nurim walk which is easy as it is mostly boardwalk or similar. It leads to a fantastic unobstructed view. This is important as where you first arrive on top of Mt Archer, the view is obstructed by trees.
Michael B — Google review

Rockhampton Heritage Village

History Museums
Recreated town & lumber camp on 11 hectares, with period buildings, a visitor centre & gift shop.
A great historical village with a varied range of old buildings, displays and collections. The volunteers at the centre were wonderful, being very generous with their time and knowledge. We had family.members ranging between 3yrs - 75yrs and all said that they would want to return. At $5 entry/person it was a nice way to spend a few hours looking into our past - it helped to give some perspective to the kids on how good we have it these days with modern technology.
Shaun B — Google review
Covers the period 1850-1950 with buildings from the local area. Set on spacious grounds, each building has it's own story to tell. Incredibly cheap when compared to other such venues I have visited.
Steve W — Google review
For an entrance fee of $6 per person, well worth a look around for a couple of hours. Lots of effort gone into the display houses and buildings. Nice and clean and well looked after.
Deby C — Google review
Absolutely loved visiting the village with all the authentic attractions from a time gone by all lovingly restored and displayed. Easy walk around all the displays and plenty of room to stop and take in all the historical sights without feeling rushed A lovely info centre and well staffed with people who were happy to chat about their village. The entry cost was relatively cheaper than most other attractions of the same calibre well worth visiting if in the area

An absolutely amazing experience, stepping back in time seeing how people lived, went to school and made a living. How far we have come in a short time
Chris S — Google review
A real cross section of history. From how people lived and worked in the region. Great displays of cars and buggy, to fire and hospital with quite a few houses thrown in. I was there for 2 hours, and didnt see everything. I will be back!
Margaret E — Google review
What an amazing place, so much to see. Loved this place had to go back the next day to finish seeing it all. They only charged entry fee for the first entry only, so cheap only $5 to get in. The staff were amazing, so knowledgeable and friendly.

Gardens
Showcase for a variety of trees, shrubs & herbs, with a waterfall, walking paths & a camping area.
This place is amazing!!! We came in a motorhome and stayed for the night, then checked out the playground in the morning- both toddler and husband LOVED it! Honestly one of the best playgrounds we’ve ever been to! Lots to do for all ages and abilities. Toilets and plenty of shaded picnic tables and benches nearby. We didn’t get to the waterfall unfortunately but drove past it- it looks lovely!!
Nanja H — Google review
We wanted to enjoy a gentle walk and good company, and chose Kershaw Gardens, which delivered nicely. There is a good selection of pathways, trees and shrubs to create a peaceful ambiance. For those with kids, there is a great recreation park. Toilets are available in the central area.
Greg T — Google review
I’m at this park all the time as it’s close to home. Great walking tracks and bicycle tracks. In summer the mozzies are out of control and I have fled a few times because of them. Not a lot of new plants that I can see but I am pleased that they have finally cleaned up some of the water weed as I couldn’t even see where the creek ran a few months ago.
Susan T — Google review
Great gardens awesome walks well maintained lots of facilities picnic tables and playgrounds
George ( — Google review
Council has done a wonderful job with the update of the camping area. Pity some people can't read the signs. Rear parking, 48hrs and no tents!
Janice A — Google review
A visit to the Kershaw Gardens is very worthwhile. It provides recreational opportunities for all people and interests. There is a good botanical collection of native plants; birdwatching; a large playground to challenge toddlers and primary school kids; quite areas meet, picnic or meditate. I really enjoyed my visit during my recent holiday. Plenty of parking. John.
John G — Google review
Great spot to stretch your legs. The gardens are well maintained and the waterfall area is very attractive. There is even a leash free area for dogs. There is a 48 hour free camp next to these gardens.
Marianne H — Google review
Since Kershaw Gardens has been re vamped with bitumen, line markings and clear delineation between overnight camping for SC caravans/motor homes and day parking for cars, it has been a tremendous improvement. Now with space to put out an awning and with tan bark and trees planted in rows between the back to back camping spots, everyone knows where to safely park for up to 48 hours. Soo close to walk to Stockland shopping centre without having to worry about finding a park space. Well done Kershaw Gardens.

The Rockhampton Museum of Art, situated in Rockhampton City, is a vibrant art museum that serves as a natural gathering place by the Tunuba riverbanks on Darumbal Country. It features both permanent and temporary exhibits primarily showcasing Australian modernist works and offers educational programs. The museum's multi-level gallery overlooks the Fitzroy River and houses an impressive collection of mid-20th-century Australian art. Visitors can engage in artist conversations to gain deeper insights into the exhibited works.
We certainly enjoyed this gallery. Entry is free, courtesy of the City of Rockhampton. The Ken Done collection was on display when we were there, but this only for a season. I highly recommend you wander around and enjoy the works of art. Not all was to my taste, but then we are all different.!
Kelvin J — Google review
The RMOA has a great selection of modern art from Australian artists. The current displays are examples of some fantastic first nation artists. I really enjoyed walking around the galleries. And what an addition to Rockys community and for its tourism. Free entry and a cool space on a hot day.

Many and varied works of art, that range from realistic landscapes to highly interactive abstract pieces. Paintings, statutes, audio visual exhibits abound here. It was free to explore on the day I visited and I reckon well worth checking out.
Coffee T — Google review
This was great fun. Kids loved it and found something around every turn. The cardboard building station was a hit as were the drawings. Mad max inspired art was fun. It's over 3 levels but no complaints from the kids as they had a lot of fun. It's free to look at and well worth a look.

Specialty Museums
Archer Park Rail Museum, located in a heritage-listed former railway station built in 1899, is a transport museum showcasing vintage steam trams and other memorabilia. The museum features a restored Purrey Steam Tram, incorporating parts of the original tramcars that operated in Rockhampton from 1909 to 1939. Visitors can explore locomotives and rail-related relics while learning about the area's railway history.
Visited this small cosy museum on my 50th birthday. Had the fun of sitting in a steam engine driven tram that's about 100 years old! It was a short 10mins ride up and down the short track but mades me feeling excited like a kid. LOL.. the rest of the exhibits were old but worth reading about some of the station's history. Go only on Sunday if you want a ride on the tram.
Steven L — Google review
We loved our visit here soaking in how travelling by trains was done in a bygone era and all the effort needed to make it happen! This railway station was constructed in the same architecturally pleasing style as the ones in Mt Morgan, Emerald, and Longreach. There are plenty of volunteers around to answer any questions and do guided tours for groups. There is a Cafe on-site to provide refreshments if required. Allow at least an hour to enjoy this experience.
Kelvin J — Google review
Very interesting museum that celebrates the history of trains and trams in Rockhampton. There are a lot of interactive activities, including a ride on a historic tram (only on Sundays, I believe). Tour guides offer more insight to the exhibits.
Leslie P — Google review
Great staff and lots to look to at. The steam tram was well worth a look. It doesn’t go very far week days, if you want to ride the tram your better to go on the weekend.
Brian H — Google review
If like me, you luv trains and trams, then you will be in Nirvana here. ✅ An awesome museum, where you can literally get hands-on with the exhibits, climbing aboard decommissioned trains and trams, as well as related operating systems, at this beautifully presented retired station. Just fantastic and I will be back ... 🚃 🚂
Coffee T — Google review
A really well done museum explaining the history of railways in the area On Sunday they run a historical steam tramway tour in an original steam powered tram, the only one of it’s type still working worldwide There are many other interesting exhibits in the museum and it is well worth a visit
Graeme F — Google review
A great railway museum housed in a former railway station. Features the only operational steam tram in Australia
Peter W — Google review
The volunteers have really put their all into this place. Beautiful displays and very clever soundscape on the platform with life like models. My kids loved the ride on the tram. A well spent morning in Rockhampton.

Rockhampton Botanic Gardens & ZOO

Botanical garden
Zoos & Aquariums
Rockhampton Botanic Gardens is a serene and enduring botanical park located just south of town. It offers a variety of attractions including a zoo, a Japanese garden, and a picturesque lake surrounded by tropical and subtropical rainforest. The well-kept zoo houses koalas, wombats, dingoes, monkeys, and features a walk-through aviary. Visitors can also explore the formal Japanese garden for tranquility or enjoy the diverse plant collections throughout the gardens.
Myself, 2 daughters, son-inlaw and my 2 grandchildren (2&3) chose Rockhampton as our meeting place for Christmas this year and we took a trip to the Botanical Gardens. We all loved the ZOO section which was an absolute credit to those who run the gardens. We pretty much spent the whole day there. There are so many spots for families to wander around with wide open spaces for the toddlers, and a great playground for the kids a lake where there are ducks and turtles to amuse the children, the display of different gardens such as the beautiful Japanese garden, and the indoor nursery with ferns, elks, stags and numerous other plant species. It's just a wonderful area of Rocky that caters to a wide variety of ages. And a fantastic Cafe to also cater to the public of varying ages. Was a fantastic day.
Shelly K — Google review
Went for a walk after seeing the zoo. Lovely gardens (we didn’t see every section but enjoyed what we saw). The Japanese section was lovely. Next time I’d bring a picnic - plenty of spaces to unwind and there was a nice looking kids playground with undercover BBQ’s.
Hannah L — Google review
Well worth taking a stroll through the many different areas these gardens have to offer. Parking can be difficult to find, but if you drive down towards the lagoon it's not so busy there. Japanese Gardens were under maintenance, so didn't get to enjoy them. Combine these Botanical Gardens with the zoo next-door and you can have a relaxing enjoyable day!
Kelvin J — Google review
Wow the playground is incredible! It gets raked and cleaned every day so it was tidy when we arrived in the morning! All gardens were spectacular, very clean tidy and green! Lots of love and work goes into the garden and you can tell!
Emily P — Google review
Visited May 2025 The gardens are quite large. Being May there weren't many flowers in bloom making it a little visually boring . The plants around the floral clock needed a trim because you couldn't see it. I love Japanese gardens but I found this one without the wow factor. The banyan figs around the tea rooms provide lots of shade and are beautiful. Food is quite good from the tea rooms I had zucchini fritters with a small salad and my husband had the eggs benedict on a bed of bacon which he said was delicious. The blue eye honeyeaters and rainbow lorikeets jump on the tables wanting to be fed, you can almost touch them. There is a childrens playground not far from tea rooms but not close enough to keep an eye on your kids. Down at Murrays Lagoon many water birds along the banks and looking in the water from the wetland lookout are so many river turtles popping up looking for a feed. I would have liked to see information boards explaining the different gardens. The gardens are 33hectares which I googled is around 46 soccer fields (for those who need a comparison, as I did!) so plenty of room for riding a bike or a long walk. I'd like to think it is more appealing in spring. But none the less a good walk and a tea rooms a lovely place for a cuppa. Overall underwhelming.
Gina P — Google review
Lovely place to have a walk/run. Plenty to see from plants, turtles down a murray lagoon. Large play park for the kids. Even coffee shop. Plenty toliets and park for all.

Amazing experience. We took our two kids (1yo and 3yo) and had the best time. I was worried they wouldn’t enjoy it but they didn’t want to leave. Don was very kind and kept our into short but still shared plenty of knowledge about the volcano and the thunder eggs. It felt like he catered to our kids ages with this chat which was really nice. Once we were finished, the eggs were cut open. You can spend as long as you want digging around the area. We stayed for just under 2hrs. Lots to look at in the shop and check out their rock garden out the back of the shop. Overall great experience and highly recommend checking out with kids of any age! Thank you for a memorable experience
Amy F — Google review
A great experience and a huge learning curve on how to fossick for the Thunder Eggs. We stayed the night at the campground and Don made us feel welcome from arrival. An additional pleasure was having ‘Bobby’ accompany us for the duration of our stay. Highly recommended.
Michael P — Google review
These guys help show us what to do. It was the first time looking for thunder eggs. They show us what to look for and help us. The kids had a blast and us parents did too. The view of the mountains was amazing. They had a few chairs and shared tree to sit under and relax. They really look after the kids by having blocks they could stand on to see, the stones after they were cut and keep them apart of the entire experience. They had poppers to buy and little car/bikes to help keep the little ones happy. The kids filled up a bag of litter stones we purchased from the shop. The staff were friendly and helpful. They really made a delightful experience for the entire family and made sure it was enjoyed by the family. Taking care to think about the needs of their guests and providing for them. Thank you for a wonderful experience and the lovely cut thunder eggs we found. The nicest one will proudly be displayed on our book shelf as a beautiful memory of our adventure with you. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Yvette G — Google review
Great find! I thought it woupd be boring, something just for the kids...but no, i was more committed to the hunt than i anticipated, was terrific having them cut to take home. They have bbqs (for byo snags), toilets, free drinking water, little bikes (balance bikes & trikes), enclosed shoes to borrow if needed, foam knealing pad, little step things to sit on which is amazing for bad knees or all us getting on in age..... I recomend to take a picnic rug and some snacks, toy buckets or toy cars for little kids for when rock hunting (& old clothes) then snags for after youre rocks have been cut. We also saw they have showers, camping grounds and swings. They sell beautiful array of gems, precious stones, jewellery & gem home decor items - all are fair prices for the pieces you get and the quality. Food wise they have a little cafe, icecreams and icypoles. Staff were lovely, very helpful and knowledgable, they had a seriously adorable friendly dog too. All of the staff seemed to genuinely love seeing our kids faces (and ours!) Light up seeing the incredible patterns and precious materials which were inside of our finds. Suprised how many they cut for us. We got to take uncut ones with us too. Worth the drive, easy to spend 4-5 hours here. With kids, take rugs, sone trucks or cars, and snacks - ours enjoyed dipping in and out of the thunderegg search. Without those toys and bikes it prob wouldnt have been as enjoyable for them, they can only look at rocks for so long 🤣
Wb — Google review
We had a wonderful experience and stay at Mt Hay! We loved spending the day hunting for Thunder Eggs and Rainforest Jasper, as well as making friends with Bobby the friendly puppy! We left with some lovely cut pieces and some uncut for us to learn ourselves. Thank you for a great stay 😊
Laura B — Google review
Great experience fossicking for thundereggs and the having some of your finds cut open for you! Ice cream and drinks available after you have worked up a sweat! It was fun continuing to look through the piles to find your fortune! Camping available onsite for those interested.
Samuel W — Google review
Absolutely loved this side quest we went on during our travels. The guys running it were lovely and it was nice to be able to take the dog. They have a lovely dog called bobby who is a cheeky chap 🤣 You get so much for your money and if you’re lucky you will see the owners cutting up so awesome stones for the shop. The rock garden also blew my mind. Huge chunks of stones I would pay a lot of money for only $30pkg. If I didn’t have to fly home to Europe I would have handed over my credit card! Wish we camped there too!
Gia T — Google review
What a gem of a place to stay and fossick. The staff are delightful and the camping is cheap. I spent the day fossicking for Thunder Eggs and was so delighted with my stash! They even cut some for me free of charge. If you love fossicking, this is the place to visit.

Wow, this museum is amazing. So much history about Mt Morgan and life in general, back in the "good old days!" Great to wander around reading the information boards that were a plenty and were truly fascinating! Certainly make the effort and time to come and check this place out for yourself! Allow an hour or two to take it all in. They only ask for a donation to enter. Excellent valve!

Located on the western end of Biloela, the Qld Heritage Park complex is a wonderful collection of vintage machinery, antique furniture, documents, clothing and railway equipment. Spread across a large area the complex features the original Callide Valley Presbyterian church, the old Biloela railway station, three antique Section Cars and a collection of early Qld educational material, mining companies documents, maps and photographs. Another large shed contains a superbly restored collection of vintage Chamberlain tractors, International trucks and a restored Reo Speed Wagon. Under the new main canopy is a collection of restored vintage motor cars, stationary engines, pumps, generators and compressors. Refreshments, local and regional visitors information, restrooms and gift shop memorabilia is available. There is plenty of off-street parking, shady picnic tables, BBQ, water, dump point and camping sites. The entry fee of $5 is excellent value, children under 12 are free entry. The heritage park showcases the best preserved pieces of local history and will delight anybody interested in items from bygone years.

We stayed at the RV park and it was outstanding. Free entry to the museum for $25 overnight stay. Clean toilets, power and water included. Quiet lots of open grass areas. Staff were helpful and the museum is a splendid step back in time. Machinery, vehicles and living from the 20th century. Highly recommended stay for anyone with a van.

This caravan park is a great find. $25 power and water plus the heritage museum included. Really nice facilities. They special offers running, judt ask. Sometime closed due to rain and black soil.

Wonderful spot to stay for a night or two. They have a 48 hour max. stay. The amenities are the best I have seen anywhere for a long time and are clean and modern. There is power and water hook up and at $25 a night I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Biloela. All staff are voluntary and very helpful. Highly recommend.
Carol A — Google review
Thanks so much for the 2 nights stay. A great museum and camp site. We camped out the back for $10 a night - no power. Power will cost you $15 a night. We have a camper trailer (patriot) and it just fits, we were in site 14. If you ask for say 15 there is a bit more room as it runs along the roadway. The showers / toilets are very good- clean and tidy. With our stay we were able to see the museum, included in our stay, which was great. We booked ahead to stay as the gates close at 1600 and you need a pass code to get in. There is a hotel within walking distance for meals if needed. A great place to stay and look around Biloela.
Mark ( — Google review
Perfect stop for two nights. Entry to the displays was included in the price ($25). Water, power and dump. What more could you need. Clean showers and toilets. Only a short walk to a pub that does awesome steaks and only a 20 minute walk into town where there’s a Woolies and Foodworks.

What a wonderful spot to free camp. Plenty of shade. River next to camp for fishing boating or kayaking. Volunteers do a wonderful job mowing and keeping things clean. Wonderful playground for kids and plenty of covered areas for picnic with BBQS supplied. Hot shower coin operated but river water is used. Donation appreciated for volunteers use this for fuel for mowing otherwise they buy out of own pocket. Lovely town of Moura close by with IGA mining museum and water tower art.

I didn't use the camp ground or facilities. I launched my paddleboard and paddled up the river for 5km, could have gone further but didn't have enough supplies. Great location and plenty of water for this sport. Quiet and tranquil, lots of fish jumping.
Chris M — Google review
Enjoyable experience, plenty of camping spots, flushing toilets, undercover picnic tables and seating, children's playground, rubbish bins. Plenty of green grass, only a small amount of road noise.
Mark L — Google review
Camped one night here. 6kms out of Moura. Lovely clean amenities. $1 for a 2 minute shower. Good water pressure and hot water. BBQs available under roof as you drive in. Fire pits at different places throughout the grounds. Donation box available. Please donate so that the volunteers can keep this wonderful spot open. Lovely spot to stay.
Amanda W — Google review
Not too bad... certainly serves the purpose it is intended. I wouldn't rate the amenities highly, but again they are free if that is what you need.

Great little rest area with good, well kept amenities. Electric BBQs available and 1 wood one; fire pits; boat ramp; and a little park area. Donations requested and $1 for 4 min long hot shower. About 7km from town of Moura. Few flies and bugs about especially mozzies in the evening.

Put my boat in out Apex park to fish the Dawson River. Just west of moura. An ideal camp spot for caravans or tired travelers just looking to roll the swag out. Situated around 1 hour west of biloela and 50 minutes to 1 hour south of Baralaba. With a donation fee to the park you can stay of up to 7 nights here. This park has 60 camping sites on the peaceful Dawson River. Is well maintained by local council. With all the facilities, wood fires and gas BBQs, kids play ground as well as for the keen angler a good boat ramp accessible out nearly any water level. 8 minutes away in the town of moura there is super market and 2 pubs with counter meals and drive-thrus. Out the park it's self there a weir just down stream making it a top spot for fishing the stocked yellow belly and the abundant natural population of Saratoga.

CRACOW HOTEL

Pub

Well we only stayed for a meal and drink on out way through and a quick walk in what is regared as a bit of a ghost town. But the pub has a long and unique history and serves nice food. Worth a walk around as the town has a rich history, particularly known for its gold mining past when the Golden Plateau Mine operated from 1931 to the mid-1970s, and there was a brief revival in gold prospecting in 2004. But back in the day as they say this was the place to be.

Stayed 2 nights in Cracow, at the Heritage Museum Caravan Park, and dined at the Cracow Hotel both nights. Delicious meals and very filling. The servings were quite large, and good prices too. Staff and owners are all very friendly to deal with, and interesting to chat with. Definitely recommend a feed and drink here, if only to support a small town business. Do yourself a favour and visit. Gus and Kerrie - Brisbane.

Sharp turn off to get to lookout. There is a path along spur for further views. Toilets available. Road a bit potholed.

Lovely views, however, really just a look out. This was great but write ups gave the impression that you could actually access the gorge. A wonderful view, but that's all. Disappointing. Very rough road in and badly signposted.

We visited from the Theodore side and went to the paved road, awesome feat of engineering! Definitely worth the time and the dirt sections of road were fine, although would need a 4x4 in the wet weather. Be respectful as you will be driving through properties witb unfenced roads and national forest. Make sure to visit the ladies at the Mad Cow coffee van on your way out of Theodore!

Beautiful little town! Could not fault it. The community is just wonderful, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The Cafe does an amazing brioche bun burger that is very well priced. The information centre was fabulous, the lady working their was so welcoming and wonderful. I purchased the cutest hand made cow from a local lady from the information centre. Had a great night stay at the Injune Motor Inn, the reception lady there was very kind, the room was amazing, comfortable and homely.

For a town that is now capatalising from the Carnarvon Gorge there is very little recognition and acknowledgement of Indigenous Culture. The council doesnt even fly the Indigenous flag. Please consider embracing the Indigy Culture as Injune could really benefit from an all inclusive approach like N.Z. has achieved with the Maoris.

A nice little place to stop and have a break while travelling. The toilets were clean, staff friendly and helpful. We just grabbed a few drinks and stretched our legs while passing through.
Marjorie — Google review
Not a good place to stop and take a break if you have dogs that don't like being confronted or approached by offleash dogs. Tried to stop, but those working there have a dog roaming around off leash with no recall. So my dogs couldn't get out to stretch their legs while the kids have a look around. Considering a lot of people travel with their animals, it should be restrained or not bought in at all.

The Roma Saleyards is an innovative facility that offers visitors a unique insight into the operation of cattle yards. It's a great reason to stay in Roma and experience the bustling world of the farming community. The guided tour, led by retired individuals with lifelong involvement in the cattle industry, provides an enjoyable and educational experience for tourists. The saleyards' impressive structure and informative tourist tour make it a must-visit attraction in Roma.
We went on a non sale day but it was still an interesting place to visit. The visual display is great and watching the clip over the sale yard gave a real sense of the atmosphere. The story behind the sculpture was fascinating regarding its detail.
Gill — Google review
Definitely a tour worth doing but ONLY on Tuesdays, and it’s free. Arrive 1/2 hour early so you can visit the exhibition center before the tour. The volunteer guides were very knowledgeable and more than happy to explain the process. Definitely a must when visiting Roma👍👍
Mark B — Google review
Really enjoyed the free tour of the saleyards in Roma Queensland. It's very interesting learning how it all works. How the animals are weighed and sold in lots to the highest bidder. They spray different coloured dots on the back and hind of the cows to indicate what lot they belong in. Tuesday is auction day and the best day to do the tour. The auctions here on Tuesday fix the meat prices for the whole Eastern seaboard for the week. This is the biggest saleyard in Australia. The road train trucks transporting all the cattle are completely washed down in special wash bays they have installed to stop the spread of weeds and viruses.
Henry B — Google review
A most important facility in this country The biggest sale yards in the Southern Hemisphere The inteprative centre is excellent Try to join the tour on the Tuesday sale day at 8.15 am for your best experience

Jullie T — Google review
We went for the tour but opted out after the first 40mins. Rather boring to be honest and people asking stupid questions. You have to stand in on spot for a very very long time and dont walk around much. We noticed so many people leaving the volunteer talkers and walking around themselves. Would not reccomend for alot of older people who cant stand for to long in one spot.

Visitors are encouraged to head to Roma for this must-do experience with plenty to see and do in the area.
Meryl from BooBook took us on an unforgettable full-day tour through the Queensland outback. It was a fantastic experience filled with stunning natural landscapes, fascinating Aboriginal art sites, and incredibly insightful commentary—especially about the Wallaroo site and the rich history, flora, and fauna of Australia. Meryl and her colleague Beq are not only extremely knowledgeable but also genuinely kind and engaging. They thoughtfully tailored the tour to suit our family’s interests, which made the day even more special. A definite five-star recommendation from us. Many thanks to the wonderful BooBook team!

What a fantastic, interesting and informative tour. Meryl is extremely knowledgeable not only on flora and fauna but Aboriginal history of the area and the colonial days. To view the sandstone formations and colours were something to definitively admire and be stunned by the enormity of them along with the Aboriginal stencil art on these cliffs. To also see Aboriginal markings on the river rocks was a total surprise and so special. We highly recommend this tour to learn the history of this area and to see such special pieces of Aborginal culture. This is a must do tour.

An excellent tour, try and go. Merrill is a local who has extensive knowledge and a balanced outlook of farming practises, flora, fauna, gas industry and the land itself. It was a privilege to go onto a private property to see amazing indigenous art , stunning views and sculptured sandstone monoliths. The tour gave me such an understanding of the area it will be a forever memory, rather than just travelling through another town.

The rig viewing deck is is a great climb with a view but the interactive daytime display is just reading lots of billboards saying "we dug, we tried, it failed... Again and again!" We only stopped at Surat for lunch but found this Museum really historical and informative. It more than offers a glimpse into the region's history with exhibits including a including a 14-seater Cobb & Co coach, which was used for transporting passengers and goods. And there is the monumnet to the last stop of the coaches. Well worth a look.

What an absolute gem this is. A donation museum which showcases the history of the area. From the cobb & co run, to drovers, the wool industry, hospital/health, shops, local photos and lets not forget the fish tank representing the fish species in the river. Spent a couple of hours wandering and reading the info. Well done to the Surat community & regional council.
Nicky D — Google review
The Cobb & co display & museum is very good. We arrived in town on the first day of the Cobb & co 100yr anniversary. The lady in the information section was NOT at all helpful. She had no idea what was on & told us if we hadn’t already booked anything that we wouldn’t be able to do anything or stay anywhere. We already had accommodation & I googled what events were on. Not the right person to have working there at such a busy tourist time for the town.

Never expected this in St George but it makes sense given the proximity to emus. It looks ordinary from outside but the nme is compelling and inside ther are emu eggs carved, decorated, polished and with all sorts of paintings on top. Apparently from their web site it is the world’s only display of hand-carved, illuminated emu eggs one of which have been gifted as far as the White House.

Travelling Aussies 🇦🇺 Stopped at this lovely tourist information centre to learn about the ST George area and fill out water tank Only one tap, eight caravans waiting and has the lowest water pressure I’ve ever seen Wouldn’t hurt to have a couple of taps on either side of the carpark Yet, the biggest benefit would be gained by signing an anticlockwise traffic movement through the carpark, as caravan and motorhome fill points are almost exclusively located on the drivers side of the vehicle 👍

St George has had enough to keep us moving along checking out the Balonne River & river walk, Cotton Trail, Riversands Wines, Beardmore Dam, visit the the local Vinnies and few other stores down main street. Has Super IGA and Foodwork so stocking up on food supplies has been good...plus reasonably priced.

Worth a drop in to learn more about the area especially the history and manufacturing of cotton.

My husband & I booked the cotton farm & winery tour at the visitors centre. We weren’t disappointed, everyone should make time to do it. It was fabulous

We booked the St George Cotton Farm and Vineyard Tour from here. Comfortable air conditioned 20-seater bus, 4.5 hour tour with great commentary by Harry. Tour starts by driving through Moorook Farm, a garlic/onion/vegetable farm with lots of great information about the history of the farm and the area. Then on to the Cotton Farm where the farm owner Scott, jumps on the bus and gives an interesting talk about all things Cotton. His impressive collection of old tractors and farm machinery was a bonus. Back on the bus and off to the Riversands Vineyards where the owner David jumped on board and gave a tour of the vineyards. Wine tasting was next followed by sandwiches, cake, tea and coffee in the pretty gardens. We purchased wine, local garlic, local honey, and local grape relish before back on the bus and delivered back to our accommodation. We learned a great deal about the St George area, and would highly recommend this tour.

An excellent little winery with a relaxed vibe. Free tasting and a chilled out garden area to sip a glass (or two) after tasting. The service was excellent with great info about each wine. The F#@king Good Port is a bush legend. Definitely worth dropping in when you are in, or passing through St George, Queensland.

Had a lovely time once again at Riversands. Our host was very helpful and had a great knowledge of the wines on offer. We had a nice lunch of Frittata and Greek salad. Highly recommend a visit. The muscat goes perfectly while sitting around the campfire.

Wow great wine, was surprised with there selection of white/red wines and port on offer. Did a wine tasting, settled on a very nice bottle of sparkling Chardonnay. Had the Ploughman's lunch, and toasted ham and cheese sandwich. Outdoor garden to sit in, and pet friendly. Staff were lovely. Chilli says thanks for a nice lunch.

This makes for a nice tour of a winery delivering table and bottled grapes. Interesting to learn about the different ways of growing, picking and processing both types of grapes. They also have a nice shop with good merchandise, and an ability to have tastings and nibbles sitting outside in a lovely setting.

Even though I did'nt purchase wine, the lunch was fabulous and reasonably priced. They had groups of coach visitors talking about their wines and taste testing of course. Lovely spot.

What a fantastic place to free camp and watch the sun go down. Easy walking into town and see all the art along the way including a great big wombat.

Great overnight stop. $10 for power or free for unpowered. Pay at the pub. Level suits and some grass. Nice hot shower.

So awesome seeing them lit at night. Free camp is great and plenty of toilets around town
Keira N — Google review
The silos are back from the road on private land in a working facility so you can’t get close fir photography. But there is a viewing spot nearby.

Great stop to stretch your leg or camp over night! If you are hooking up to power ($10p/n), you pay at the pub around the corner! You also can grab a decent pub feed there
