Very refreshing swim at bottom of waterfall, plus a beautiful view from the lookout. Looks like a lovely place to camp. However, road leading to waterfall was very bad quality especially if you don’t have a 4X4 - lots of pot holes and very rough. Also lots of persistent big flies 🪰

Can't swim here but if ya want bang for ya buck pictures and just enjoi the grace of nature and her power there is a walk way and view points.. swimming is accessible further down the creek

I only stopped in for the day but I'm keen to head back for a camping experience there. There is no wifi/reception so make sure you've booked a site before you get there if you want to camp. I had NO PHONE SIGNAL anywhere around the place for about 10 - 15mins heading in there. Beautiful board walk to the Falls. And a 1.8km walk through the forest to the top of Falls.

Gorgeous swimming and camping spot. You need to book if you are camping. note that the road up is really bumpy and gravel - may not be suitable for all cars. Bring repellent - mozzies everywhere.

Nice hike to the bottom of the waterfall! Out and back hike with 250 meters of decline and obviously the 250 incline back to the top again. In total 3km.I guess this track can be quite slippery when it rains!

One of our favourite waterfalls in FNQ — if you time the light just right, the falls create their own rainbow. The road in is suitable for all vehicles, but expect tight corners, single-lane sections, and the occasional Brahman wandering across the road. Hikes are epic, just be prepared with plenty of water sunscreen and bug spray as they are affectionate little critters.

Great place to look at the amazing fall. I’m happy I took a detour after work to come check it out. The drive is very winding and please take it slow. The view was spectacular. Highly recommended.

Loads of warnings before you do this walk....which was kind of off putting ? But we did it !!! Super rewarding....maybe took 1 hour return to the first main viewing spot...or less. Stunning views from down the bottom...just be prepared for the big climb back up!!!!! Bring water:)

The view from the top is beautiful. However be wary that the walk is very difficult, especially on the way back. You absolutely need proper shoes and lots of water. We walked to the bottom of the water fall and while the view is beautiful it is impossible to swim or stay for too long because of the large swarms of horse flies (stinging). The horse flies really ruined our experience at the bottom. Maybe it is better in other seasons. I would recommend going only until the last lookout point (picture) which is really beautiful as the rest is not worth the pain of the flies.

Spectacular one of the best waterfalls I’ve visited. The walk to it only 2kms but it’s steep and rocky and would be very challenging down and up if not very fit. But is definitely worth the walk

Beautiful adventure, keep eyes away rocks on steps and required runner shoes or mountain shoes. More harder to get up the steps. Great experiences.

The center is a must visit when you’re in Ingham QLD. It’s located on the southern side of the main town just a short walk from the library and Cole’s. They offer free coffee and te with movies and activities in and around town. They have free wifi and a low cost camp behind the center just $15 a night. Make sure you get your pass spots are limited. Just out the back is a magical spot with turtles and some times a croc or two that they have named. Well worth a visit

beautiful Lucinda, a place to access Hichinbrook Island.

Hinchinbrook Visitor Information Centre is a must-visit place when travelling in the area. It is conveniently located next to Bruce Highway, in Ingham, just next door to TYTO Wetlands. The Centre's modern design building is clearly signposted & easy to spot. It is relatively recently constructed and fits very naturally into the environment. Along with the usual Information Centre things like maps and brochures, it has quite a nice interpretive display with lots of historical facts and photos, the bird's nests display etc and an interactive display (I particularly liked the birds' photos-sounds display, when you press the button with bird' name, the photo become highlighted on the display & you can hear its call). There is TYTO Self-Contained RV Park just behind Info Centre. Permits are $15 per vehicle per night (May 2024). Parking is strictly a 3-night max. (Vehicles are required to be self-contained. Toilet, shower, washing & cooking facilities must be contained within the vehicle). Leah, the lady working in the Centre, was most helpful. Her local knowledge helped us to plan our trip beautifully from the places to visit to where the best to have lunch/dinner. We were surprised to learn that TYTO Wetlands these days has several resident saltwater crocodiles, one of which is around 4m. This information changed our plans in regards to where to walk (I visited TYTO Wetlands a few times before Covid, but there never had been any salties there. I spent many enjoyable hours walking & bird-watching. Not any more apparently...). We were told that local authorities had no plans to relocate crocs, saying "Since it is a crocodile country, let them live there". There are a number of croc warning signs put up all over the place. Another change was the installation of several elevated boardwalks, the construction of the observation tower & cafe (which was closed when we visited, but apparently a must-visit place). That is all great news. There is also fresh coffee & some small snacks available (free of charge). That is very nice (especially coffee). Our visit was interrupted by a small group of aboriginal children who chose the Information Centre as a playground & place to eat (those snacks I described before). It seems they had a very good time loudly running all around, grabbing & dropping things, spilling drinks etc.... Leah was very kind, friendly & patient with all visitors. I highly recommend the Hinchinbrook-TYTO Wetlands-Ingham Visitor Information Centre. You will get information that only locals can know.

An excellent place to drop in and get information on the many things to do in this area. A shame to just drive through Ingham without spending a day or two to see the sights. The staff at the information centre are very friendly and helpful.

The best Visitor Info centre I have ever seen, helpful staff, free tea/coffee (driver reviver station), kids friendly info, lots of brochures about the entire region (Townsville to Cairns), toilets and access to the TYTO wetlands (they sell turtle food). There is parking for larger caravans and a dump point.

Was a great couple days at camp ground. A nice walk to Falls trail, explore into forestry areas, say hi to the turtles, plenty of bird life.

Pleasant walk to Jourama falls, mostly along a path with some steps. Not a lot of water this time of year (August). Some Birdlife around.

A beautiful spot to relax and unwind in the rock pools and waterfalls. Only a relatively short walk to get to the rock pools and well worth it.

Cool place, short 3km hike with a steep part at the end. You can walk further up the falls on the rocks. Saw a snake there too.

Beautiful views at every stage of this hike. Make sure to wear bug repellent because the march flies are horrendous, and bring plenty of water for when you're hiking up to the lookout. Saw the local brush turkeys and some curious turtles came to check out what we doing. Well worth the trip.

Nice falls and rock pools. Bush walking track is well maintained. Visited in August. Dry conditions but water still flowing. 6km off Bruce Highway with about 3km of good gravel road. In the wet season, the two fords may become impassible after rain

This must be one of the most amazing places we have been to. It's definitely worth the visit, and we will be back. Bit about Paluma - Paluma is a very special place.  Nestled in misty upland rainforest at the crest of the coastal range, the village is embedded in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and surrounded by National Parks. It is a welcome respite from the summer heat of Townsville and during the winter you can smell the smoke from wood stoves throughout the village.

Beautiful place to visit for the day or to camp over night. As it is a national park you need to book ahead, but it is quite cheap & is an honesty thing. It is clean with drop dunnies, a cold shower, taps & beautiful grassy camp sites with free gas bbqs. There is a hike that takes you on a cemented path, through bush, bubbling creeks & a view of a waterfall. I would definitely recommend this place & will be back again

Such a beautiful place to visit when in Townsville. A 40 min drive and you’re in a place in the clouds which is at least 10 degrees cooler than Townsville itself. We did the Triple Falls hike which includes a rope abseil down to a gorgeous waterfall

Gorgeous spot. Water slides will be awesome after some rain, was a bit dry when we were there but still managed some ultimate wedgies!

Nice place! Bitumen all the way to the little crystal creek and to the rockslide. Have wonderful swimming spots. There's campgrounds if you want to stay for few days.

Paluma has a wide variety of birds, wild life and many good walking tracks its not a big place and a 2 day visit would be more then enough to explore most of it. Birthday falls and Lake Paluma are worth a visit as you can find the cossawary bird if you are lucky. We stayed at Fatima cottage in Paluma which was basic but the owners Bill & Lauren where the best hosts ever and very willing to help and tell us all about the area.

This is a grade 3 moderate trail. There are steps at the end but they are not steep steps. My husband with arthritux knees made it to the top without much difficulty. Koalas on the trail, great history and views.

The trail is uphill, and the final part can feel quite challenging if you’re not very fit or have trouble walking. But the view is absolutely stunning, and you might even spot some koalas along the way 🥰🐨

Definitely well worth the walk .There is so much history to be explored here along with amazing 360 degree views. Spot a koala along way if ya lucky.. dirt walking trail all the way, lots of steps closer to the top, and access to Florence and Arthur bay.

Unbelievably hard walk that went for miles. Lots of hills and uneven stairs to navigate. Only advantage are incredible views of Townsville and other islands. Done it now so I can relax.

A moderate uphill walk. Beautiful scenery. If you see some sticks forming an arrow it means someone has seen a koala near by in that direction. But beware of the snakes.

Easy to moderate walk. Not much to see of the remains but the views are amazing Saw two wild koalas in the middle of the day as well. There was also a water refill point towards the start of the walk which was fab!

Amazing views and I got to see a koala! The track is easy to climb and has drinking water available at one spot. There are no toilets though. It is very popular with families as well. It's best to rent a car and travel at your own pace else you will end up waiting for bus.

Great free place to come for a swim, whether that’s to do some laps or to cool off. Lockers are available to place your belongings in. There’s also a cafe attached. There is an upper and lower pool. The lower pool overlooks the river which is nice.

Great place for a swim and just to relax. The pool entry is free ( unheard of these days) and the pools are fantastic.. No actual lap lanes but you can still do laps if you want.

We visited in June and just about had the place to ourselves! This is possibly the biggest pool I've ever seen. If we lived here we would be regulars. Lifeguards and security present.

Fantastic! Beautiful park with big shady trees. Riverside walks where you can stop to feed the turtles. Great places for picnic. Amazing swimming pool with lovely clean facilities. Really interesting Art Gallery, library with great play corner and books for the little ones! Nice café. Easy parking. The place is amazing, kids are enjoying themselves swimming around as well as adult people. Life guard is also keeping eyes on every kids in the pool so they feel safe to swim around. Everyone are enjoying themselves here. I'd love to visit again and have a swim too.

Such beautiful pools with varying depths. Situated beside the river. Incredible that they are free for the community to enjoy. Bathrooms were kept clean.

Beautifull place :) ! A bit noisy sometimes, but that's a part of the succes ^^ . Btw, forgot my watch yesterday on the men shower, and come back today to enjoy. In case of (i was 100% someone stole it, even if inexpensive..), come back to the toilet block and ask to a guy, 1mn later he came back with my Timex, incredible 😃 ! I was soooo happy. Congratulation to the cleaning staff, bloks are clean, and they take care of your stuff, in case of your forgot something .. ^^ Don't know the name of this guy (look asian), he was very nice with me, wish to him the best ! French traveler.

We had a wonderful half day sailing out of Townsville to Magnetic Island with Big Mama Sailing. Captain Lisa is warm and friendly and expertly handles her yacht. Assistant Sophie also made the day with her great conversation and friendliness. A swim in a sheltered bay, whale and dolphin spotting plus seeing a turtle topped off a wonderful experience.

Just returned from a 2-hour Sunset Cruise with Big Mama Sailing and… wow. The experience was both exhilarating and deeply peaceful, like my spirit took a deep breath and smiled. There’s something magical about being out on the water, kissed by the breeze, wrapped in golden light… I feel nourished. I regret putting off a visit to Billabong Sanctuary now that I have finally visited! I've been to dozens of different wildlife parks, zoos, and sanctuarys but this had to be one of the best ones in regards to the animals behaviour. alert, healthy appearances, not overtly desperate for stimuation nor food from guests, but still curious and didn't express too much anxiety. the presentations/talks were well paced out and easy to navigate to in a timely manner, staff were all friendly and personable. The relatively smaller scale of the entire sanctuary in comparison to other parks makes it an easy day out aswell as easier on little ones who may get overexerted else where. facilities are scattered about, a decent sheltered sitting area is beside the entrance/kiosk composed of multiple tables, as well as a small pool on site. a bonus for myself was the amount of native wildlife that took advantage of the area, plenty of waterfowl as well as songbirds abound.

A must do when visiting Townsville. A great layout, the ranger talks are perfectly timed, so you can move from one to the next. Talks are very informative and where else can you feel a cassowary, hold a koala, snake and crocodile and even have meerkats climb over you. Highly recommend this place.

We had a fantastic time at Billabong Sanctuary and only wish we had more time to spend there. We found it by accident upon visiting the big croc and it was so worthwhile. From the moment we stepped in we were awed. The hands on experiences with the animals make it a day to remember. Highly recommend.

Very impressive dive site, groups of fish, beautiful corals, giant grouper, we had amazing time. crews are very professional and welcoming. Mat is a funny guy :)

It felt like a disappointingly disorganised shop. Divers turned up at 7.30am expecting an early start and then didn't leave the shop until 9.30am. There was a lot of sitting around waiting for the DM to be ready to go. It all felt very inefficient with the paperwork and payment. If they need the morning to sort things out, then they shouldn't be asking divers with their own gear to turn up at 7.30am. I was also pretty annoyed by how underfilled the tanks were. After the experience with the shop, I really wouldn't go with this group again, despite the Townsville shop being a lot more expensive. Once we were on the boat, it was a great day. The boat captain was fantastic and super helpful. It's an amazing dive site.

Steve; the dive guide and Matt, the Skipper were awesome. Had 2 amazing dives and they helped all of us through a little rough sea condition. I loved the vibe of the whole shop! I would to 100% recommend this place and when I come back, you’ll definitely see me again :D

Dived The wreck with Steve and Matt, everything from start too finish was Fantastic, Steve is a perfect example of how confidence tranfers into competence, His ability to articulate knowledge and dive plans in an easy to digest way is Fantastic and makes the dive feel like a breeze, Skipper Matt! Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience. We had a confirmed booking for the SS Yongala dive on November 7 and planned our entire travel schedule around it. Even though we had at least three divers confirmed, the trip was cancelled two days before with the explanation that there were “not enough participants,” and we were told everything was fully booked until the 19th. Shortly after, however, new spots suddenly appeared for November 9. For us, this meant several hundred dollars in additional costs (accommodation, fuel, and rescheduling) — and we still didn’t get to do the dive we had booked. What makes it even more frustrating is that many reputable dive operators in Australia run trips with very small groups. We completed our Advanced Open Water course with only two participants, and operators like Scuba World even run their HMAS Brisbane dive with just one single diver. Overall, the decision felt more profit-driven than customer-focused. Very disappointing, especially given the reputation of the site. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this operator based on our experience.

We stayed at the Horseshoe Bay Resort caravan park. It's such a great spot close to the beach. We had dinner at the cafe. The food was amazing and on Saturday night, there was live music brilliant. We would definitely return.

Nice little beach fun swimming and good snorkeling on the right hand side near the rocks. There is a sculpture in the ocean out a bit still on the right. There is a nice cafe nearby and a caravan park. Also toilets and picnic tables. You can walk to a lookout.

Beautiful beach. Lovely grass area out front and cafe. Short walk to the lookout, but recommend doing the lookout first, as you will get hot. Then you can cool off in the sea. Lots of rocks to find some realise in too.

The coastal trail is very well built, very clean and has many places to rest, I love it here!

You've got wet, rippled sand in the foreground that looks perfect for squelching your toes in, if you don't mind dodging all those dark, scattered rocks. The beach leads back to a rugged shoreline with rolling hills in the distance. The soft, hazy light and pale sky give it a very peaceful, 'I'm-escaping-it-all' kind of vibe.

Lovely boardwalk although it was very hot when we visited, Google maps currently has it closed for much of the week, this is incorrect, it's open 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Beautiful scenery and a smooth walkway that goes for miles, with uninterrupted views of Airlie Beach waters , landscape and Islands. Great photo opportunities along the way.

Highly recommended something that everyone can do , at 12 it’s almost empty if you want ti have good pics . This is the time .. just be careful with the scooters . Enjoy!

Wow - almost a sensory overload experience! 😁💗 This place contains everything gift oriented, ornamental, jewellery, garden, indoor-outdoor mats & cushions, wall art, crystal hangers, coffee mugs, glassware, candles, handbags, belts, clothing, shoes, toys, etc - anything that you could think of! It's like a rabbit warren of pretty & funky happiness! Well worth a look when in the town of Proserpine, or "Prosvegas" as it is alternatively known!.. 😀 It's also conveniently located next to the pub & an EV charging station, if needing to take time out for lunch & a quick car charge up.

It is my favourite arty shop. Love all the quirky ornaments beautiful gemstones and rings and ear rings. Lovely chimes outside that sing in the wind. Always a lovely experience. I bought my daughter's favourite tea-cup there as I have over the years.

A very tight squeeze to manoeuvre through, particularly in the front counter area but a super fun and colourful place, offering something for everyone. Very clever and considered compilation of pieces that bring joy.

Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet- OMG!! Ahhh mazing 🍃🏝 Named as the second best beach IN THE WORLD and Australia’s third most photographed location! And it’s easy to see why!!! I didn’t think water this clear existed or sand this soft and cool could be real 💖 Did you know that the sand on Whitehaven never exceeds more than 26degrees! Even on the hottest of days!!! The ever changing swirl of colours seen from Hill Inlet are amazing and as the tide changes the blues change too!! It’s easy to see why so many people make sure this place is on their bucket lists!! 💦🏝☀️ A big thanks to the guys from Ocean Rafting for making our day so memorable 💖

An amazing lookout point. Hill Inlet in the Whitsundays is located at the northern end of Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island. As the tide shifts, the white sand and blue hues of the inlet blend to create swirly patterns which look beautiful. We arrived via boat and walked uphill ~15mins to the lookout. We took lots of photos and then walked back to the boat. Best to go at low tide to see the swirly patterns.

Took a chartered flight from Hamilton Island. Such beautiful scenery. the whitest sand in the world, and the most amazing blue tones ever

Best is arriving by yacht, but also by plane. The key is renting the golf cart 150 bucks. And you good to go round the island.

The marina side of the island has the IGA, Bottle Shop, departure terminals for day trips, Newsagency with plenty of toys and gifts, Ice Cream Shop, cafe for breakfast, Dive shop, Pizzeria Place, Romano’s Italian, Bakery, Fishis Fish Shop, dress shops, surf shop, Tavern and the Yacht Vlub that has Bonnie’s Restaurant and the deck for afternoon drinks at the Yacht Club. Perfect place to spend the day.

A stunning marina with all the palm trees that were in the movie pirates of the Caribbean donated to Hamilton Island

Very nice marina. This place is really very pretty. The staff are very friendly the weather is perfect the whole island is accessible. You can walk everywhere. They have amazing walking tracks to go on. I would defiantly recommend this place to visit. Honestly everything is just amazing

An incredible island. Scooting around on golf buggies is loads of fun, and there is lots to do on the island to keep you occupied other than just taking in the amazing view. A must see.

Gets very busy around lunch time. Tavern, fish and chips and bakery open. Best to download the Hamilton Island app to see what's open and trading times. Not all cruises and water activities and some restaurants are operating.

What's not to love. Not too crowded but still a bit of a vibe. From the bakery to the yacht club there is a price point for everyone to get a meal. Or self cater from the IGA. Departure point for all cruises and ferries.Pleasantly not crowded with the typical brand names. No McDonalds and no Prada either. Hang out at the many picnic tables or have a champagne at the yacht club and enjoy the views.

One of those beaches that are amazing to look at but not the greatest to actually experience. The beach sand wasn’t as smooth and soft as you’d like and there were loads of pebbles. The tide goes out really far and you can walk very far out. Saw a few turtles and rays.

This beach is beautiful, high tide is great for floating around, kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkelling no waves so great for kids. Low tide moves around 2 metres of water you can walk out a fare way. Lots of beach lounges to sit in the shade and there’s takeaway food just a minute walk. If you are staying at the main hotels all beach equipment is included in your stay, show them your room card and write your name down.

Absolutely gorgeous beach. Beautiful soft sand and bright blue water. The Bay stays relatively flat and is perfect for water activities. You can pay to use paddle boards, canoes, snorkels etc. If you stay at Reef View (maybe some other hotels, I am not sure which ones), then it's complimentary. The Pool Bar is nearby, so you can enjoy a cocktail or mocktail while you sun-bake. The beach is quite long, so there is plenty of space for everyone. There are also some tables, chairs and umbrellas.

Beautiful. Has pools and a beach (unfortunately low tide when we went). Nice and relaxing. Pretty cold in the middle of September. Music playing in the background and a bar attached to one of the pools too!

Agree with the other reviewers, this is a beautiful little beach. Warm water, nice sand and sailing or snorkeling options just off shore. You will need to check with tides and wind conditions as this does affect how clear the water is. A lot of beach options available including just sitting there and enjoying.

Highlight was being able to see so many big sea turtles swimming next to you. The reef itself was below par.

Straight across from the resorts, plenty of water activities on high tide, snorkeling on low tide, coral, sea life and turtle tours. Bring the underwater camera/go pro.Pool bar close by or bring your own snacks and drinks. Plenty of chairs and shade.

Such a spectacular beach and it's so huge that even when there's heaps of boatloads of tourists there is room to spread out and have your own private slice of paradise. A must see when in Australia.

Absolutely breathtaking! The sand is so pure and soft it almost squeaks under your feet, and the turquoise water looks unreal. We spent hours just relaxing, swimming, hiking and soaking in the views — it honestly feels like paradise. If you’re visiting the Whitsundays, this is a must-see. Bring your camera and plenty of sunscreen — you’ll never want to leave!

A must see destination. The pure white sand, the crystal blue waters is like nothing else. Find your own spot amongst the long beach, relax & enjoy the serenity of it all. Don't rush this spot "just to say you've seen it". We hired our own boat, found our own section with no-one near us for over a kilometres on the sand.

One the best beaches I have seen till today. It’s very worth taking a full day cruise from Hamilton island to whitsunday.

Giving this a 4 star only because it's after Hill Inlet Lookout and views from scenic flight in terms of beauty. The soft white sand and glassy waters cater to all sorts of fun activities, and it'll forever continue to be a popular tourist destination!!!

The beach is truly magnificent, with some impressive wildlife. There were few people there when we went, which allowed us to swim peacefully in the relatively warm, turquoise water. It was a beautiful day, and I don't regret the investment to get there.

This place is absolutely stunning! The breathtaking views, incredible beach, and mesmerizing vibrant colors make it truly one of the most beautiful spots I’ve ever experienced in Australia! The best part is the opportunity to enjoy the beach and swimming, embracing the beauty of nature.

Beautiful nature up the Mountain range! Go to the broken river trails to spot platypus! We saw two different ones and loved the walks.

Amazing place! We were this morning about 8am and we saw two platypus! Really amazing experience! You need to be patience and quiet, so good luck!

A very nice place with rain forest walking trails and a trail all the Broken River where you can see turtles and platypus in the creek The platypus is rather elusive but we saw some in the creek and also spotted a water rat

The drive down to the dam was 45 minutes on a bumpy dirt track. It was horrible and not worth it. The platypus viewing was a great spot as was the lovely scenery.

Amazing national park, nice for a day to see the Broken river and do some small hikes. Stayed at Fern Flats campgrounds, cheap and nice tugged in the jungle near the river. Saw platypus of course, try it in the morning or afternoon though, if it’s too hot already, they might not appear. Wallabies also walk around in the jungle around you, really likes it

The place is really nice for all occasions nice view good fresh air.

We did the Diwaia and Andrews Point Lookout and twin Beach Lookout today. Easy walk, there were families with young children walking. Andrew's Point Track is 5.2klm Rtn or 2.8klm rtn back along the beach. Find a couple of caves along the way. The best view was at Diwaia Lookout. There, you could look across to Slade Point.

Disappointing to see national parks and rangers supporting the feeding of wild animals for a profit side by side with tourism groups....ruins the whole experience watching the beauty of nature with the sunrise when you have to follow all their rules. Aren'twe always taught not to feed wild animals?......seems they can if there is money involved

Hiking, views, camping, relaxing, spotting wildlife and many other things to do here. I loved the hikes and wildlife the most! The Echidna are lovely 🙂

Superb location. Kangaroos on the beach in morning. Plenty of wildlife in the area including the camp.

Cape Hillsborough is an incredible spot, but seeing kangaroos on the beach at sunrise made it truly unforgettable.

Great national park! There are a big parking and a park next to an hotel. In the park you can find BBQs, picnic tables, a water fountain, outside showers, toilets, and some games for children.

I've seen this in a few Queensland places now and a great alternative to the beach and waterways that can be dangerous. Good on you Mackay for providing a free pool and slides for families. It is also in a good location, across the road from the big shopping centre.

A great place to chill and relax, cooling off in the refreshing blue water. A fantastic safe place for kids to swim, slide and enjoy themselves… and best of all, it’s free!!

Pleasant, relaxing swim, not too crowded. The day I went there, the cafè had no coffee beans and the waterside was only open on the weekends. Otherwise a great time in the pool, close to shops. Staff and lifesavers were very friendly. Thank you 😊

We visited Mackay by car from Brisbane and the first time we came this place for a sunshine day. beautiful pool, clean and the water is cristal blue. a place that should to go. my kids like this place. We certainly come back when vistit Mackay next time.

The pool is big and very pretty - lots of space even with a few people there! Being free is amazing, it was very cool experience and fun! Be careful if you are sensitive to chlorine, our friends eyes were quite red afterwards.

With a very warm welcome water temperature of 20.3°, the is the best place to come and relax, or bring the kids and let the have some fun. And the best thing is that it's FREE. The water is clean and the grounds are well maintained. We went and spent a couple hours in the water just paddling around and relaxing in the shallow waters. We didn't bring the kids this time but these is heaps there for them to do.

Super loved it. Kids are loving it. Kudos to Mackay Regional Council for having this recreation area free for everyone. Note that the waterslide open every weekend and on school holidays and public holidays only.

Was in walking distance to our motel. A great place to stretch your legs & for the kids to burn off some energy. Gardens were beautiful & green. Kids loved the playground & watching the birds, fish & turtles swimming in the water.

We visited here during a particularly stressful time in our lives (these pictures are from the beginning of June). How peaceful and wonderful to have found this place! I can't wait to go back after some rainfall to see what fungi pop up. Down by the water on the board walk there were dozens of turtles, all showing off. So many varieties of wildlife to try and count.

Lovely gardens for a walk thru or sit and have lunch at the Cafe (closed on the day we visited). Well maintained and lots of variety in plants and trees, lots of birds too.

Very nice garden, place to have a lunch or coffee. All you need is sunny day.

This is the best part of Mackay after the harbour, very peaceful and nicely organised

Beautiful spot, massive walking track that will get your steps in, while walking the dogs.

This garden is on a lovely site overlooking the water, there are several paths to take you through the collections with my favourite being the heritage gardens. You'll find something to inspire you, no matter that time of year you visit!

Had a wonderful tour. Did the combined Sugar Shed tour and the Rum Distillery tour. Very informative. Carla made it interesting with her infectious sense of fun. The products were delicious, especially the fairy floss. Great job ladies!

Do yourself a favour and put this place on your to do list. It's brilliant, and you'll be surprised and amazed at how the sugar processing works from the humble sugar cane. The staff are so friendly and our guide Jess (aka Clarry) was a wealth of information. We loved the fairy floss at the end of our tour 😎 The cafe serves yummy food so don't forget to indulge yourself. There's a fabulous shop on site with a great selection of locally made products.

Thanks to Julie for a very informative tour of the sugar shed. Having just travelled through kms of cane fields it was great to learn more about the process. We also got to taste many of the products produced at this council owned facility.

We had a look round and just missed the tour start but needed to be elsewhere. I did buy some chutneys and honey

Excellent tours, Nikki was informative and fun. She served our lunch as well as worked in the shop. Very multi skilled. The platter was delicious and quite enough for 2. I noted all the food was not expensive. The 2 tours and platter cost around $100, which we thought 👍 great.

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE. QLD is renowned for their cain fields. So there is no better way to learn how the sugar process is done. Our fabulous guide Nikki enlightened us on the process from farm to store process through mini versions of the machinery and a video. The tour was interactive as we all were given a different name tag that tied in with the process. Finished the tour with chutney's, sauces and liquor tasting from the sugar they produce 😋 Let's not forget the fairy floss!!! There is a cafe and a store to buy their delicious products (at reasonable prices) Betty in the shop was another stand out legend. Thanks Sugar Shed for a wonderful experience 🫶

The Sugar Shed is a must to visit! We stopped there a couple of weeks ago to do the school holiday tour, to find the loveliest team of staff you could hope to come across (even though we were running late 🫣) The tour was really interesting and informative for us southerners who know nothing about sugar cane farming, and the products were sooo good! Oh and the coffee was great too! Thank you to the team! We had a lovely time! 😊👍

We had an absolutely fantastic day here. The caves were beautiful and easy to traverse with wooden stairs and suspended walkways over the most difficult areas. The acoustics in the Cathedral Cave were totally awesome. Candice, our tour guide, was very informative & enthusiastic with a dry sense of humour. She made the tour thoroughly enjoyable. All the staff were very helpful & friendly. The Capricorn Caves are easy to access, just a short drive from Rockhampton. The café & gift shop were great as were the fossil displays. We only booked the short tour but will definitely be coming back to do the longer tour next time. Highly recommended.

Guided by Maisy our little three-pack had a great two-hour walk-climb-crawl tour of the caves. Straight down in the mud from the go with a snake sighting not long after (during a crawl, just for that extra bit of fun). Through and through the highlight of my three week vacation in the Cairns/Brisbane area.

What a great experience. Our guide Flynn was spot on with his guiding and passion for his horticultural knowledge. Another one of those great "don't drive past" experiences. The fact that it's all privately owned and run add an extra tick in the box. We need to support these ventures.

The Cathedral Cave tour is always an amazing experience, and I often take visitors on that tour. On this occasion I was fortunate to do the "Whispers of the Caves" night tour... well I'd highly recommend it when they run the night tour again. A unique and impressive adventure that's for sure!

The caves were quite a treat to walk through with its lovely ambient temperature & collection of micro bats. Candice did a great job guiding everyone through as well. It was nice to bring my classical guitar and play in the Cathedral room!

Cathedral tour was amazing! Tour guide was funny and engaging and very knowledgeable of the caves and critters in it! Definitely recommend and if I find myself back in the area will do one of their other tours for sure!

The Capricorn Caves was awesome. Especially the Cathedral experience. It was amazing. The tour guide was very informative and knew her stuff. Friendly staff and a lovely gift shop If you're in the area well worth the visit

A great experience and a huge learning curve on how to fossick for the Thunder Eggs. We stayed the night at the campground and Don made us feel welcome from arrival. An additional pleasure was having ‘Bobby’ accompany us for the duration of our stay. Highly recommended.

These guys help show us what to do. It was the first time looking for thunder eggs. They show us what to look for and help us. The kids had a blast and us parents did too. The view of the mountains was amazing. They had a few chairs and shared tree to sit under and relax. They really look after the kids by having blocks they could stand on to see, the stones after they were cut and keep them apart of the entire experience. They had poppers to buy and little car/bikes to help keep the little ones happy. The kids filled up a bag of litter stones we purchased from the shop. The staff were friendly and helpful. They really made a delightful experience for the entire family and made sure it was enjoyed by the family. Taking care to think about the needs of their guests and providing for them. Thank you for a wonderful experience and the lovely cut thunder eggs we found. The nicest one will proudly be displayed on our book shelf as a beautiful memory of our adventure with you. Great find! I thought it woupd be boring, something just for the kids...but no, i was more committed to the hunt than i anticipated, was terrific having them cut to take home. They have bbqs (for byo snags), toilets, free drinking water, little bikes (balance bikes & trikes), enclosed shoes to borrow if needed, foam knealing pad, little step things to sit on which is amazing for bad knees or all us getting on in age..... I recomend to take a picnic rug and some snacks, toy buckets or toy cars for little kids for when rock hunting (& old clothes) then snags for after youre rocks have been cut. We also saw they have showers, camping grounds and swings. They sell beautiful array of gems, precious stones, jewellery & gem home decor items - all are fair prices for the pieces you get and the quality. Food wise they have a little cafe, icecreams and icypoles. Staff were lovely, very helpful and knowledgable, they had a seriously adorable friendly dog too. All of the staff seemed to genuinely love seeing our kids faces (and ours!) Light up seeing the incredible patterns and precious materials which were inside of our finds. Suprised how many they cut for us. We got to take uncut ones with us too. Worth the drive, easy to spend 4-5 hours here. With kids, take rugs, sone trucks or cars, and snacks - ours enjoyed dipping in and out of the thunderegg search. Without those toys and bikes it prob wouldnt have been as enjoyable for them, they can only look at rocks for so long 🤣

We had a wonderful experience and stay at Mt Hay! We loved spending the day hunting for Thunder Eggs and Rainforest Jasper, as well as making friends with Bobby the friendly puppy! We left with some lovely cut pieces and some uncut for us to learn ourselves. Thank you for a great stay 😊

Great experience fossicking for thundereggs and the having some of your finds cut open for you! Ice cream and drinks available after you have worked up a sweat! It was fun continuing to look through the piles to find your fortune! Camping available onsite for those interested.

Absolutely loved this side quest we went on during our travels. The guys running it were lovely and it was nice to be able to take the dog. They have a lovely dog called bobby who is a cheeky chap 🤣 You get so much for your money and if you’re lucky you will see the owners cutting up so awesome stones for the shop. The rock garden also blew my mind. Huge chunks of stones I would pay a lot of money for only $30pkg. If I didn’t have to fly home to Europe I would have handed over my credit card! Wish we camped there too!

What a gem of a place to stay and fossick. The staff are delightful and the camping is cheap. I spent the day fossicking for Thunder Eggs and was so delighted with my stash! They even cut some for me free of charge. If you love fossicking, this is the place to visit.
