Informative cheese tasting. I like the simple setup and they come with a description sheet outlining the flavour profiles of the different cheeses in the order that you taste them. We had their popular pumpkin soup next to the fireplace, it was a blessing in winter month.
Hang S — Google review
Cheese tastings here are $10. Would have been nice if they offered a Seniors discount. I would have preferred the condiment tastings to be in tiny containers rather than on wooden sticks. After our tasting, we chose a couple of cheeses and ordered a platter for 2 which was huge and included a freshly baked bread roll and lots of fruit. Washed down with wine. They have an amazing array of condiments here with a variety of different flavours. We bought a few. Our host was lovely. In hindsite I think that the cheese tastings should be waived if you purchase a platter or say over $50 of goods.
Aussirose T — Google review
If you want food, stop here! We were heading to lunch elsewhere, keen to check out the cheeses.. & saw the food! Not to be distracted (even though we were!), we ordered a ploughman's platter. And coffee. And a cheese tasting board. Bonus points for it being pet friendly, our doggo made new friends! Make sure you take your esky, the cheeses you bring home will appreciate it!
Carol S — Google review
First time doing a cheese tasting. I'm not a huge fan of cheese, but things you do for your partner 😉 I'm glad I did it.. was $20 for 2 people. We walked out with the snowflake cheese and a red capsicum relish. Was a cute little shop and highly recommend! My partner said the snowflake cheese brought back memories from his childhood. 🧀
Kirsty W — Google review
Enjoyed the cheese tasting plate and explanation sheet. Have been to other cheese tasting and feel this was one of the better set ups. Very well priced and lots of options. The overall cost of the cheese was reasonable and have a variety of sample packs you can buy too. Cosy fireplace that adds to the atmosphere when it’s cold outside. We didn’t eat, but the food being delivered to the other tables around us looked good!
Kristie P — Google review
Stopped here for lunch. The ploughman’s platter was delicious. Kids had a toastie and they loved them too. Dogs are not only allowed here but are made to feel very welcome.
Kathryn G — Google review
Such a fun cheese tasting board with complementary condiments. Absolutely gorged ourselves with our 3 favourite cheeses for dinner that night. Not a leftover in sight!
Ari V — Google review
We did the cheese tasting as well as purchased a cheese variety pack. Loved being able to try the cheese before buying as we were able to figure out our favourites.

Suttons Juice Factory

Mentioned on

$$$$affordable
Cafe
Suttons Juice Factory and Cidery, located just 10 minutes north of Stanthorpe in the town of Southern Downs, is a popular destination for tourists seeking authentic apple pies. The family-owned establishment offers a variety of freshly-baked pies and other goodies, all made with generous servings of flavorful apples. Visitors can also enjoy the cozy atmosphere with indoor seating by the fireplace or outdoor seating in the grassy backyard.
Great local cafe and juice producer. They give you all apple juice tasting for free and you can buy some food there. We tried: apple pie, beef pie, cheese cake - they were amazing, carrot cake - was awerage. Can be busy and not cheap. But in general - a perfect example of how the local cafe should be.
Denis T — Google review
A popular place to stop in for a coffee and sweet treat. Generous serve of their famous apple pie with spice apple ice cream. A variety of apple juice flavors to choose from. Lots of seating inside and outside. Toilets and parking on site. Friendly staff.
JazzGee — Google review
Suttons Juice Factory is a gem! Their apple pie is hands-down one of the best I’ve ever tasted — warm, flaky, and perfectly spiced. Plenty apple juices to taste, each one bursting with fresh flavour. Super friendly staff and a great spot to grab something delicious and local. Highly recommend!
Boon A — Google review
A must visit for lovers of apple pie. You won’t be disappointed! Husband and I shared a portion and it was enough. The cafe is in a big tin shed which must get very hot in summer but there are fans and an outdoor seating area. Lots of apple-related products for sale.
Tracy H — Google review
Today we went back to Suttons, after a 13 year absence, to see if their famous apple pie was still as good as we could remember. YES, the apple pie was still as good as it was 13 years ago woohoo! Unfortunately the whole experience was let down by the awful cappuccino's we ordered with it, instead of cappuccino's we got a mug of warm milk - hence we didn't drink it and they went into the bin. The lady that served us, also cleaned the table and saw that we hardly drank any of it but never asked why we didn't drink the coffees. It was a bummer because when we ordered and asked for each of our coffees to have a double shot, she said that they use Merlo coffee beans and they are really strong and tasty. Despite this we insisted on double shots, I don't know where the shots went but definitely not in our mugs :(. In the end of the day we went there for the apple pie and that was delicious but I wouldn't recommend the coffee, that is if you are used to a strong cup of good coffee and not a warm cup of milk.
Carlo S — Google review
A must when in Stanthorpe. This place was recommended to us and it didn't dissapoint. 10/10 best Apple pie I've ever eaten! Homemade ice cream is delicious. Service is fast and staff are lovely and friendly. We will be back 🍎🍏
Kylie C — Google review
The staff were impolite, but it was busy. The pies were good, nothing special though. They have a lot of goodies you can buy; soaps, juice, ciders, jams 🍎🍓🍇🫐 The kind of place you only go to once :)
Sophie H — Google review
Good place to stop as you pass through Applethorpe/Granite Belt. Coffee was good and I had the Ruben Sandwhich (note that wasn't a standard/classic Ruben as pickels were in the sandwich and was on wholemeal not rye bread). Lots of apple juices to sample and good selection of juice and jams to purchase. Prices were 'moderate ' (no great deals to be had day I was there). Toilets were clean (note only for paying customers. )

Castle Glen Australia

Castle Glen, also known as the "Castle in a valley," was founded in 1990 by Cedric Miller and is situated on the Granite Belt. The cellar door offers an amazing experience with its award-winning reputation. Surrounded by apple orchards, cattle farms, and natural granite formations, the drive to Castle Glen is truly spectacular. Visitors are greeted with a well-maintained castle and vineyard upon arrival.
Such a huge selection to choose from and you can taste test a few of the bottles before you buy. I bought the caramel taster pack and a banana liqueur. Lovely texture and the taste. Will definitely be back. The lady serving us was great and very knowledgeable.
Fiona M — Google review
We were so impressed with this place - such a warm and inviting atmosphere and shaped like a castle to boot! The staff were friendly and we were welcome to sample anything we were interested in. I can never drink wine because it always has preservatives in it but theirs has no preservatives so I bought up and the prices are great. They also have a big selection of so many other things - we left there quite a bit poorer than when we got there but very happy! They also have free shipping if you order a certain amount online (cant remember offhand how much) so we will definitely be supporting this great Aussie business in future!
Lisa T — Google review
Don't know what people are on about...first time there went in tried a bunch of awesome tasting alcohols bought a bunch of them, the lady working there was full of knowledge and super helpful... also bathroom's were clean! Will be visiting there again!
Leah G — Google review
Lovely place to visit the owner, so it is so accommodating and happy to let you taste before you buy.
Monique D — Google review
Hey look, I don’t drink but this place is worth a visit. I bought all sorts of beverages that my family and friends would love as gifts. Something that you wouldn’t find in other places. The staff were amazing too! Not to mention the ambiance, I mean seriously its in a castle, just perfect!
Vlog B — Google review
Nice landscape. Just need to be more creative with the exhibition of the liquor.
GINA G — Google review
Bought a sample pack of " sloe gin" Absolutely disgusting undrinkable lantern fluid In all fairness it does say on the label it was in fact white spirit . Only discovered this fact after spitting out first mouthful, Out of 6 flavours in pack zero were drinkable. A bit decieving when you pay a high price for " gin" So if you like drinking disinfectant, this might be for you. No better than the wine based spirits you get for about $ 20 a litre Very disappointing Even after 4 beers can't flush the disgusting flavour out
Dave S — Google review
Well I was going to write a great review, as the place does the cutest bottles of liqueurs and has a great setting, however I found their customer service for any issues very disappointing. In store it wasnt particularly outstanding but I was too excited about the cute bottles to worry about that at the time. I purchased several items, two of which were really cute bottles of liqueurs. I drove home to Brisbane, then my friend and I sampled these at one location, before I drove the few KMs home. When I went to unpack the bottle lid of the round bottle was not on the bottle and despite being in a cardboard box and upright, had leaked half the bottle. I figured this was on me for not securing the lid, however I have found the lid does not stay on. There is obviously an air pressure issue with the design of lid and bottle, so I now have a half empty bottle that the lids won't stay on. Now here comes the issue. I am assuming I have a faulty lid, so I contact Castle Glen to let them know, and to ask if I might have a replacement (as I really love the bottle and wanted to display it after). I was basically told that these lids often don't stay on, hence why they shrink-wrap them when they make them. So I suggested that is a fault and that perhaps they should be informing the customer about this, both at time of purchase and on the box. Basically (in a friendly way) told me this is how it is and they aren't going to do anything to help me. They also suggested they haven't had this complaint before, which I find strange if this is a common occurrence. And if it's not a common occurrence, then surely you would just err on the side of caution as a business and replace it. Needless to say I am disappointed that I have half a bottle of liqueur and will now need to find a new home for it and can't store in the bottle I wanted it in. Apparently once empty, my bottle can still be used for the aesthetic purposes I wanted it for, although my plan was to fill it with a coloured liquid, so I guess that won't be happening. Surely if you have a design flaw, you would want to ensure you fix that rather than telling your customers that's just how it is.

Real fun experience, interesting and revealing. Dogs fantastic. Family run business done well. Suggest all burglars are directed to watch the demonstration and think again! Hah. Very clever animals. This family also helps rescue dogs. Truffles as a side business very tasty. Thank you!

Awesome dog show, and a great team of people working here. I got my dog off Matt nearly 6 years ago now and he's been an amazing addition to the family. If you are thinking about becoming a German Shepherd home I can't recommend a Trip to Lawdogs enough.
Brent P — Google review
We got our family dog (bear)from LDA, the service was excellent the dog was even better, I have recommended them to people in the past and would do so going forward for sure!!😁
Andrew G — Google review
An informative, interesting 1 hour insight into the training and workings of this dog training facility. The narrative is clear and suitable for adults and children alike. Enjoyed it because it was something different. These are working dogs in training and not trick dogs so it doesn't always go as planned, which adds to the experience.
Peter S — Google review
Went for the truffle discovery, was great to learn about truffles in Australia and watch their trained sniffer dogs in action. Grabbed some truffle oil and honey on the way out and can't wait to try!
Harriet K — Google review
Very educational and worth a visit. Great to see the makings of a working dog.
Gail L — Google review
What a wonderful experience. The dog show is worth it and one gets an idea of how patient one needs to be if doing specialist dog training. Also did a very short tour of the truffle nursery and bought some truffle oil. Using the latter in cooking (very small quantities) and it adds amazing taste and complexity to a dish. There is also local honey one can purchase. Definitely pop in if you're in the area. Check the website for opening days as they are not open that often. When we went they were only open on Wednesday and Saturday from 11am. Also check when they do the Alpaca feeding.

Great place to visit with the family. Very friendly owners The maze was fun, and the riddles were enjoyable to solve. I loved all the signs around the place. Mini golf was good fun as well. Definitely worth visiting and good value. We will be back.
Kirk B — Google review
Lots of creativity went into creating this attraction. There are 3 mazes, plus mini golf. You all get a riddle to solve too (adults included). The signs around the place are awesome, very comical. If u are in the region, come visit it. Great for kids.
Aki S — Google review
Fabulous! We had the best time! The riddles were fun, spent an hr in the maze trying to find the clues, mini golf was well set up and the songs were hilarious! Highly recommend! Well maintained too!
Tess F — Google review
What a fun experience! The Granite Belt Maze was a great way to spend part of our day in Stanthorpe. Challenging enough to be engaging but not frustrating. Perfect activity for couples or families visiting the region. Well-maintained and good value for money. Mini golf was fun too!
B M — Google review
Very pleasant experience with the mazes and putt putt. A lot of fun, well maintained facilities and friendly people to deal with. Love the riddles of course, and the signs are very funny!
Millie ( — Google review
This was such a fun and different experience! Being family owned, you could definitely feel the love that has gone into creating the place. I was thoroughly entertained with the hilarious signs everywhere, and the maze experience was fun because you have to find the answer to a riddle. So even though you can just take it casually, when you have the riddle to finish it makes you more excited to get through it. There were smaller mazes too which were super kid friendly and we finished the day with a round of the mini golf which was actually super fun! The place itself was well maintained and looked after, really beautiful and had enough in way of ammenities to feel comfortable. The husband and wife who own it were so friendly and sweet. Definitely recommend giving it a go!
Aimee Q — Google review
A very fun experience! The riddle to solve whilst traversing the maze was very enjoyable, and the mini golf afterwards was a fun way to cap off this enjoyable afternoon. Staff were super friendly, and everything felt super relaxed and lovely!
Tyler H — Google review
Great place to go for a few hours the man and his wife are lovely and my family and I had an awesome time. If you do go make sure to read the signs. I wish the council would promote this place a lot more as there is hardly any signage! The owner said the council won't allow more signs so please go there for a family fun half day and help promote this amazing husband and wife team.

Thank you Simon & Cindy for a wonderful "Wine Discovery Tour" of the Granite Belt Region including Stanthorpe, Ballandean areas, loved the small group and how you were able to personalize the tour. Nestled just 27 kilometers from Tenterfield, Boonoo Boonoo National Park is a hidden gem that showcases the beauty of diverse landscapes, including lush rainforests, dry eucalypt forests, and grassy woodlands. This enchanting park offers visitors a chance to unwind with picnics by the serene Platypus Hole pond, where you might catch glimpses of playful platypuses if you're patient and quiet.
We have made a few trips into the Boonoo Boonoo National Park for picnics and especially to sit very quietly near the Platypus Hole pond which has severl playtypus. If everyone is quiet there is a good chance of seeing them on the surface but it takes a bit of patience. And it is worth to see them. This is a great place for waking and a picnic. I was lucky to with photos and there are a couple of playtpus present on the surface.
Ross D — Google review
Am amazingly beautiful part of the world and only a short drive from Tenterfield. Also great camping and swimming holes. The dirt track is easy going and approx 14 kilometers (8 mi).
Mike A — Google review
Absolutely worth the visit, even if you're coming from far. The scenery is fantastic, the walks can be as long or as short as you want, and you're always near this picturesque river and the incredible waterfall.
Eric L — Google review
Well worth the drive in from Tenterfield, picnic area and toilets are well maintained. Spectacular views down through the gorge and waterfalls cascading down the side. There is a large pool at the top that you can swim in tho we did not as it was cold a a little discoloured from all the recent rains and bushfires in the area. Still well worth it for a drive and a sausage on the BBQ.
Geoff F — Google review
Easy relaxing walk well pathed
Gert P — Google review
Only 27km from Tenterfield, Boonoo Boonoo National Park has a stunning waterfall, secluded swimming holes, hiking tracks, camping areas, accommodation and picnic spots. After Banjo Patterson proposed to his sweetheart, Alice Walker, at Boonoo Boonoo Falls lookout, there was movement at Tenterfield cattle station. Word had passed around that the station owner’s daughter had got away. Presumably she loved the guy, but it’s possible that his charming choice of setting in which to pop the question might have helped sway her answer. Alice didn’t have a chance and she and Banjo married in 1903. Today, Boonoo Boonoo (pronounced bunna-bunoo) is still the ultimate romantic setting, especially after a good rainfall. From the lookout is an uninterrupted view of the Boonoo Boonoo River cascading over the granite cliff edge to become a spectacular waterfall that plunges 210m into the gorge below. Nearby, you’ll find walking tracks and shady places to picnic. Secluded rock pools along the river, lined by wildflower-filled bushland, are the perfect way to cool off on a hot day.

Hiking trails through granite boulder clusters & eucalyptus forest, with summit views of Queensland.
Wow, walking to the top of bald rock is an amazing experience, one of the best hikes I've ever done, amazing, 360 degrees and not a house in sight! Beautiful!
Mandy C — Google review
Amazing granite boulders and views. Took the "easier" slower Bungoona walk up to the Summit - then the very steep but quick descent back down the granite wall. Challenging on the knees but doable.
Lisa W — Google review
A beautiful walk, the grade 5 bit is very steep. I recommend sturdy boots with good grip. Wattle was out and the little purple flowers too. Gorgeous! Track is well maintained.
Caitlin M — Google review
Making our way along the various tracks in Girraween NP was amazing. I've never hiked in the Granite Belt before and the more we elevated it offered more discoveries and eventually an incredible view...what I loved the most was sitting amongst the 🐝 Spring was alive and the weather truly beautifully 🌎⛰️🧭🥾😎
Barb S — Google review
Very pleasant place and adventurous. You need to go on a clear day where there is no chance of rain. We need to come back from the mid because of rain. Nice place to go with family and fried
Shiva S — Google review
Fantastic walk. Take the long way around - the Bungoona walk, either up or down for impressive granite boulders and cave like walk-throughs. The summit is spectacular. A great place to rest and take in the views before the descent.
Adrian N — Google review
Did the base walk. Easy to push wheelchair (gravelly path) up to the base then there's a few rocky steps up to actual rock base.
Meg C — Google review
What an awe-inspiring little hike; I totally loved this! You can be bold and brave and head straight up the rock face or you can take the gentle route to the Summit via the Bungoona track. Either way the views are simply stunning. About 3km in total. Truly, it's nature at her best. Easily accessible via the New England Highway and ample parking with toilets and picnic facilities.

Tobin Wines

I searched for a wine tasting experience and chose Tobin Wines based on the positive comments regarding their high-quality wine. Although Adrian Tobin was not present at the cellar door, I was served by his friendly and professional staff. They explained the meticulous production process that contributes to their exceptional wine. I had the opportunity to taste three red and three white wines, and particularly enjoyed one of their white wines, which I purchased.
We visited Tobin Wines today as one stop on a wine tasting tour. It was memorable, made so by the consistently-high quality of all the wines tasted, and by the knowledgeable, personable, often-humorous presentation by Ian as he guided our tour group through the tasting. Numerous wines on the tasting list were worthy of purchase, and as a result, we struggled to find wines that could compete at subsequent wineries, or presentations as engaging, no matter how professional the presenters. It was a very enjoyable experience.
Peter M — Google review
Excellent range of wines, try the 2025 Maisie Verdelho or the 2023 Max Block One Shiraz. Tastings are welcome, and the servings are generous. Plenty of off street parking. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful.
Jeff S — Google review
We spent some time at this winery today doing a tasting. Marley was amazing and very patient! He entertained and informed and managed to wrangle seven of us. His knowledge of the wines was thorough and the wines themselves were delicious. Highly recommend stopping in here and stocking up. Thanks Marley!
Lauren G — Google review
Marley was our host for a superb wine tasting experience. Truly engaging, knowledgeable and passionate about showcasing Tobin’s exceptional wines. There were many standouts but the Block Shiraz and Chardonnay were tremendous. Tobin’s focus on perfecting their terroir shines in their wines and stand as a tribute to Alex (Mr Tobin) whose ethos for producing wine with restrained wine maker influence is both commendable and justifiable. A must visit for anyone who appreciates great wines and a commitment to the art of wine making.
David S — Google review
Our second visit to Tobin Wines over the years did not disappoint! The service, explanations of the wines and their personalities and roots was exceptional yet again. The tasting out of this world. A big shout out to Marley who we recommend gets whatever promotion or awards are available, and if not, invent one. He's gold.
Michelle D — Google review
I’ve visited Tobin many times and it never disappoints. What I love the most is the variety & ability to taste side by side; especially with the same varietals from different blocks. Shout out to Brandy who was personable, professional & offered exceptional hospitality. In my opinion the best wines on the granite belt ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Michelle W — Google review
What a great experience all round! Marley was a great host with immense knowledge on the wine as well as the Tobin family history. A really engaging and enjoyable experience, oh not to mention the top wines of our trip. We ended up with a Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc (Which both my partner and I have never really been fans of the style, but really enjoyed) as well as a couple other bottles to go. Keep doing what you’re doing team Tobin, and we will see you next time for sure! Thanks!

Ballandean Estate Wines is a historic, family-owned winery in Queensland's Granite Belt. With five generations of winemaking expertise, the Puglisi family has been producing exceptional wines since 1932. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings in the Cellar Door surrounded by the oldest working barrels in Queensland and sample premium reds and whites. The estate also boasts a top restaurant, Barrelroom & Larder, offering gourmet grazing platters that can serve as a satisfying lunch.
Absolutely beautiful wine tasting experience and lunch platter. Food was delicious. Ambience is gorgeous. This is the oldest winery in the region, 5 generations, the sisters were so friendly and made the experience wonderful. Highly recommend!

Fantastic wine tasting with a very knowledgeable host who walked us through many of the rarer 'Strange Bird' varieties unique to the Region. Beautiful selection of whites and reds - my friends bought 4 bottles to go!

Ballandean Estate Wines is Queensland’s oldest family-owned winery! We visited for wine tasting and it was very good, their wines are top notch 🍷and the young guy did an excellent wine tasting presentation. The sparkling and Saperavi were some of my favourites. There is so many cool things to do and see in the Granite Belt region and this Winery should be on your list. We look forward to returning 😁

Thank you Lizzy for your great customer service. Your knowledge on the wines we tasted was fantastic. The platter you made up for us was just amazing. We will definitely be back.
Darren B — Google review
Fantastic wine-tasting experience. We showed up without an appointment and they were quite busy. Nevertheless, their customer service was impeccable. We tried quite a few wines we hadn’t heard of before (strange birds) and bought quite a bit. Amazing how much good service makes a difference.
Gabe C — Google review
Lovely wine tasting experience. Very popular winery. Staff member was friendly and knowledgeable but busy trying to manage 3 wine tasting groups at the same time. Grazing platter options available. Toilets on site and parking available.
JazzGee — Google review
Came here for the wine toasting and charcuterie board (pre-ordering is recommended). Was not disappointed and could absolutely not fault a single thing on the board. As we came in midweek it was quiet so the ladies were more than happy to have a chat and let us know which different brands of salami, Prosecco, condiments and cheeses were on the board. We had our own choice of four wine tastings, and I actually bought all 4 bottles. Could not fault the wines. The decor was awesome with wine barrels and cosy seating. Fabulous experience and well worth the money because the quality was exceptional.

Fantastic winery with lots on offer. Great range of reds, whites, tawny port and liqueur muscat. First winery in the Stanthorpe area - family owned (5th generation). Well worth a visit for tasting.

Girraween National Park

Nestled just 40 kilometers south of Stanthorpe, Girraween National Park is a breathtaking destination that truly lives up to its name, which means 'Place of Flowers.' This stunning park showcases an array of unique rock formations, including the famous Granite Arch and Balancing Rock. With its hilly terrain and diverse ecosystems, it offers a variety of hiking trails suitable for all levels.
Great place, and could be a church to those you love nature. The hikes here are great for kids and those less experienced. Or those who don't like a whole day in the bush. Close to civilisation and will give those new to hills a good scramble experience with limited exposure yet some nice views. Some exposed cliff edges where sections of wet scree could see the heart race with a slip and fall so need to be mindful of your skill level.
I,M&H M — Google review
Recently walked to granite arch and the junction. Beautiful and easy walks with so many lovely native plants to enjoy. The creeks were running high which was nice. While headed first toward the pyramids, I knew I didn’t want to do that walk having done it a couple of times in the past I wasn’t keen to scramble up a granite rock. While other enjoyed the challenge a smaller group broke off to enjoy a more leisurely walk. Great signage at the start of the walk making it easy to plan your walk.
Morgana P — Google review
Gorgeous natural park. We stayed at Girraween National Park for a couple of nights to explore the area. What a quiet, beautiful, peaceful place to camp! Clean camping areas with amenities blocks. We did the walk around the park. And explored surrounding areas. Stunning sunsets at night to sit back and enjoy.
Susan H — Google review
Ticketed off the bucket list Friendly park ranger, well looked after and great tracks. Loads of signs for ease when walking. The main attraction for me was the pyramid to balancing rock and it was awesome Make sure you have great shoes with grip and aren’t scared of heights.
Toni C — Google review
The Pyramids is an insane hike. Not for the faint hearted. The stairs are never ending and then its on to the steep rock face climb. Its very challenging but so rewarding! (If you're a fitness fanatic you'll be fine) its do-able for moderate fitness level but its tough. Plenty of areas to stop to catch your breath though. View at the top is absolutely amazing. Don't attempt this if your scared of heights.
Zoe S — Google review
Beautiful national park with great camping areas for caravans ,tents etc . Lots of birdlike and kangaroos and wallaby. Amazing scenery, walks , waterways and swimming. Lovely in spring with the wildflowers.

There is so much to see here. Great bush walks, both for easy or hard. Rock formations are incredible to see. Beautiful scenery and water holes. Cold in winter. Short drive from Stanthorpe. Heaps of parking and good directions to walking tracks.

Glenlyon Dam Tourist Park

Park
Nature & Parks
The first visit to Glenlyon Dam showcases a delightful lunch from the kiosk, followed by a drive down to the water level. Although currently at only 4% capacity, it is reported that ten Murray Cod were caught on the day. This makes it an ideal location for picnics, camping, caravanning, fishing or simply exploring. Witnessing the dam at full capacity would undoubtedly be a magnificent sight worth experiencing firsthand.
The park is really nice and Debbie that runs it is very knowledgeable and accommadating. Hot showers and great Cafe. Easy access to the boat ramp and lots of tree coverage. We enjoyed our stay.
Jo S — Google review
Only did a day visit but it looked like a great park with a well stocked shop. Dam looks great and obviously his fishing from all the photos on display
Joanne J — Google review
This is our first time to this dam and we stayed 7 nights on a powered site. There is no dump however you can use the parks toilets (well maintained). Plenty of wild life around the park, kangaroos, goats and birds. Every site has its own fire pit and there is plenty of firewood supplied. If you love fishing there is plenty of that also.
Debra M — Google review
Our first time to Glenlyon Dam. We had a great lunch from the kiosk, then drove down to water level. It is only 4% capacity at the moment, but heard a local man say 10 Murray Cod were caught today. So great place to picnic, camp, caravan, fish or just come for a look. It would be fantastic to see it when it is full. Come and see for yourself!!

How wonderful to be able to visit the saddlery from the song, I found it very nostalgic, with great historical records and trinkets. The fella there was very nice, too. A great experience, I just wish I could have bought a little leather keyring or something small to remember it by 😊

Barbara who works there gave us really interesting insights into the building, the museum and some local history. She was quite knowledgeable and patient and warm, which we really appreciated. The hall where we were supposed to hear Sit Parkes’ speech didn’t work well - the speech was playing intermittently, you hear two sentences then there is silence of a few minutes then another sentence or two.

Am sure the people at the centre do a great job however our sole purpose for overnighting in Tenterfield was to visit the Saddlery. We arrived on advertised hours and unfortunately it was closed. Feel perhaps if this happens, maybe someone from the Centre could open. After all, majority of people visiting from afar, do so because of the Saddlery history, thanks to Peter Allen.

The Tenterfield region offers a variety of attractions, including the impressive Bald Rock National Park, Boonoo Boonoo Falls, and award-winning wineries. The Tenterfield Railway Museum, situated at the town's western edge on Railway Avenue, dates back to 1886 when the railway line first reached Tenterfield. The museum complex comprises the station, station master's residence, goods shed, barracks, railway yard and signalling equipment.
It's surprisingly good with lots of hands-on experiences! Even if you're not a fan of trains or things mechanical, you'll get a great feel for the history of the area and Australia. Plan on 2 hours to see it all. Lots of friendly volunteers to answer your questions. Donations of $8 per person or more help fund this local treasure!

Very helpful & informative staff who took the time to explain all that the Museum offered. Its a wonderful historical snapshot & all who have been involved should be proud of their work. The Dog Box restoration is a fantastic example of the challenges the volunteers have faced. What an excellent museum and collection of minerals. This museum is a credit to the town and people and for a $2 donation, it’s worth every cent. So much to read about this area from the 1800s to present day. Even better, our dogs were also welcomed inside. What a great few hours we had.

An absolutely awesome museum! From sparkling minerals and military displays to old history, photographs, and more – there’s something fascinating around every corner. This museum was so much more than just a mining museum. Although it had an extensive collection of rocks and crystals it also houses a breathtaking recollection of the families of the area. A trip outside to the small village takes one around a saddlery, a dressmaker, a bakery and a machinery shed. Don’t be fooled by this museum’s humble outside it’s well worth the trip.

Called in this morning to get some advice on things to do in Glen Innes during our stay. The man behind the counter did not look up from his computer, did not offer a greeting or acknowledge I'd come into the centre. This is a fantastic place and worth a visit. There are lots of tables around for picnics and plenty of room for dogs and travellers with caravans etc There is a beautiful walkway just above to walk around and view the town and surrounds. However the best part is the Crafters Cottage onsite with the best coffee in the area. The barista there is Thai and a fantastic artist with her designs on the top of each coffee. There is a nice fireplace inside the cafe and lots of outdoor sitting areas if you have a dog with you. The new playground equipment for kids is excellent and there are plenty of new toilets The cafe is open from Wednesday to Sunday. Of course the Standing Stones are a huge highlight. Whilst in town, don’t forget Sweaties Pies, which are renowned to be the best anywhere. The coffee downtown is generally very ordinary.

Green valley farm is such a special place - you’ll only really understand the magic once you’ve gone! Family owned and run, this place is a hidden little gem in such a beautiful location! There is the option to either camp or stay in a cabin (air conditioned/heated), the scenery is pure Australian bush, the park has its own little cafe that makes the best thick shakes!, a cute little farm experience with animals, and lots of little rides around the park. The entire vibe of the place really emphasises good old fashion innocent family fun. My family have been going for 20 years and will continue to go for another 20

We stayed at Green Valley Farm over the long weekend and had a fantastic time from start to finish. Right from our first communication, Kathy went out of her way to accommodate our large family and make sure everything was perfect for us. The farm itself is absolutely beautiful, and with five kids, we were never short of things to do. The holiday cabin was small but felt surprisingly spacious and comfortable, with a kitchen that had just what we needed without feeling cluttered. All the staff were lovely and so friendly — it really made the stay extra special. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to provide a little map or guide around the property. On our first day, we weren’t quite sure where everything was, and we didn’t realise we could walk through the “private area” to see the animals until we saw others doing it. The prices throughout the farm were fantastic, too. Even the coffee was reasonably priced — standard prices, not inflated like you sometimes find at holiday spots. We would absolutely love to return one day and do it all over again!

It was cool, it was quirky and I love the history and story of GVF & how it's all family ran. We camped for 3 nights but I feel as though there just weren't enough amenities for all the campers & powered sites were a bit on top of each other. My 17 & 15yos weren't allowed to supervise my 10yo while I prepped lunch and dinner & nursed an injured foot but the teens were allowed at enter on their own. The kiosk food was the BEST takeaway we've eaten in a long time. As a family we rate GVF 3 out of 5 stars.

WOW! What an Amazing place! Our first time to Green Valley Farm was for the Adventure Moto Dirty Weekend Event 2025 and we had a Cracker of a time. The camping grounds and facilities were 10 out of 10. I highly recommend this place for families and events. Well done to everyone involved in running this farm 👏

Stayed at this free camp a night, get there, early could get busy. Beautiful view over duck ponds and golf course. Bbqs available and clean toilets, no showers. Quick walk into main street, bowls club over the road has food. Go to the car museum, only $2 entry. Cute little town.
Jenny B — Google review
We stopped here to use the dump point after having been off grid camping for a few days. The dump point was very accessible next to the toilet block, clean & neat with a hose pipe connected to a tap right next to the dump point for easy cleaning. A great facility!

Free camping. Close to the shops and cafes of Guyra and a lovely walk around the reserve. You are very close the the bowling club with two local supermarkets in town to stock up. Toilets and pump out available. Go check out the old station which has been kept fresh and the museum too. Currently the Lagoon is chockers with bird life now the Lagoon is full of water again. Come check it out especially at golden hour for all you budding photographers and it's awesome when the most and fog roll in. Sooo good to see it wet and wild.

Great place to camp. Free camp with, toliets ,bbq, dump point and water refill station. Guyra is a great little town to support. Motor museum for $2 entry an absolute must.

A great place to relax with birds around you. Today is a celebration of 50 years since the area was declared a national park.
Martin B — Google review
Beautiful wetland, and you can walk for about 2km around the edge. We saw a huge variety of water birds, not just ducks but swans and ibises as well.
Margaret C — Google review
Loved this free camping spot. A stroll to public toilets but the camping area remained illuminated throughout the night. Clean drinking water also close by. Be aware the area was chilly in February being so high up.

Wollomombi Falls Picnic Area

Picnic ground
Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
Wilderness area with bushwalking tracks, a campground, a striking waterfall & a shelter with BBQs.
Beautiful area for a stop on the way between Ebor and Armidale. great facilities with toilets, BBQ's and picnic tables. Did the 2km round trip to chandler falls lookout, was a rocky track just take it easy on the little down hill spots. One of the lookouts is only 200m from the car park so if you don't have the time for the walk you can still stop in for a quick look at the Falls.
Daniel R — Google review
Highly recommend doing the walk to Wollomonbi falls lookout! The views are wild (photos do not do them justice) 🏔️🌊 It's a very short walk from the carpark to the first lookout. The walk then continues to the base of the falls and then 2 more lookouts which are a bit further and uphill / downhill.
Sophie — Google review
Amazing views of water falls and gouge. Incredible natural beauty. Beat when it's rains, water falls are awesome to see. So high, great walking tracks to see best lookouts. Walks are reasonable for most levels of fitness and suitable for children with supervision.
Andrew B — Google review
Beautiful views, easy walking tracks, and well signed. Nice picnic area at the top too.
Grant O — Google review
Nobody can control the weather but only a dribble of a fall from the main lookout and nothing from the other lookouts. Otherwise nice area for a picnic. Didn't see any toilets

Pups and Park Rangers, New England National Park is a 5-Paw WOW-ZER! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ryder here, and wow-wow-wubbzy, New England National Park is PAW-SOME! Just say, "Ryder needs you, New England National Park!" and the PAW Patrol will be there - because this place is incredible! From the tippy-top of Point Lookout, the views are like, whoa! You can see everything! It's like Adventure Bay, but bigger and with even more trees! We used our pup-tags to zoom in and spot so many cool birds – bright blue ones, fluffy white ones, even some that sounded like they were laughing! Pup-tag zoom vision is the best for nature exploring! The walking tracks are super fun adventures! We hiked to waterfalls that were splash-tastic! Marshall even managed to stay dry for once (almost!). There are trails for every pup, big or small, and even some that are a bit challenging for extra adventure! Just be sure to bring your pup treats and water, Adventure Bay style! And the best part? It's full of amazing animals! We saw wallabies hopping around like they were in a bouncy castle, and so many colourful butterflies fluttering by! It's like a real-life jungle adventure, right here in New England! We even helped a little lost joey find its mum – teamwork makes the dream work! New England National Park is the perfect place for pups and people who love adventure and nature! It’s clean, it’s beautiful, and it’s got something for everyone! No job is too big, no pup is too small to have an amazing time at New England National Park! Definitely a 5-paw recommendation from Ryder and the PAW Patrol! Let’s go, go, go explore!

We walked half way down the gorge, a pretty steep track in places, but when we got to where wanted stop, the view was spectacular
Gary G — Google review
Super easy to get to, and the views? Absolutely worth it. Just a friendly PSA for future visitors—or let’s say, a rant against the peeps that were present while we were there: this isn’t your private festival stage. Cranking EDM at 11 a.m. isn’t the vibe—people come here for tranquility, not to relive Coachella on a cliffside.

The Armidale Visitor Information Centre offers a variety of experiences for first-time visitors, including the Armidale Heritage Bus Tour that takes you on a two-hour journey through the city's history, gardens, churches, and museums. The center also provides fishing permits for those interested in watersports at the nearby dam where activities like canoeing, kayaking, and swimming can be enjoyed. Additionally, visitors can join a free bus tour starting from the center with knowledgeable guides providing insightful commentary.
The staff here were very helpful. I also did the heritage tour which was excellent and I would highly recommend. Sue, our guide, was very knowledgeable and the 3hr tour flew by. Definitely worth doing as you would not see or hear of the history of Armidale if it wasn’t for this tour. 👍👍

My first stop in Armidale was the information centre— lots of local information and friendly advice about the region and roads. Plenty of parking too. Next to fuel & food. Clean toilets, BBQ, kids playground nearby.
Mozinoz_ D — Google review
We went on their free heritage bus tour. Our tour guide was an older, long-term resident of Armidale. Very knowledgeable. We drove by lots of historical buildings. Most importantly, we were allowed into Booloominbah Historical Settler House in the University of New England, which is now used as an administration building at the university. This is the only way you can get into that house. Highly recommended. We gave a donation after the tour. The people inside the visitor center were also very helpful with advice.

We had a fantastic experience with staff here, we had a very passionate man (?Ethel) who explained the town and surrounds with such excitement that it got us excited to explore. What a great asset he is to the info centre!

So, so helpful. A destination in itself. The staff couldn't do enough for us. So many great suggestions. We'll be back.

The Armidale Visitors Centre really is a must! We were warmly greeted by Faye, who has lived in Armidale for a very long time as we found out, and who is a wealth of information in and around the area. The experience was very much like discovering treasure with what we were provided. Not just on what to see but the history as well. We were able to tailor our own touring experience with the information provided and can not thank Faye enough! I heard locally about the council possibly replacing people in the information centre with machines. I hope this never happens. We have had experiences with information machines, they never give you exactly what your looking for, they can't tell you about the treasures you might be interested in but don't know there there, or which way to go to get the maximum visits in areas depending on when they are open. Faye made it a breeze, and we will have to come back as there was far too much to do and see in one day. Thank you again for the experience, education, information, and your warm, friendly nature Faye, you are a gem!

Wow! This is a gem of an art gallery, how lucky Armidale is to have it. The Hinton collection is very impressive, featuring some of the biggest names in early 20th century Australian Art such as Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts, Nora Heysen, Margaret Preston, and Ethel Spowers. I also enjoyed the temporary exhibitions. The always impressive Art Express was on display today, and a range of other contemporary Australian artists. They also were advertising a range of workshops for kids and adults running throughout the year. The cafe is lovely too, and there's a well curated gift shop for buying a souvenir or two.
Edwina B — Google review
Ohh Coffee is so good and the food is to die for. The food is also unique! There's variety in the menu that you don't see in many other cafes in Armidale. Love that they are open on Sundays and the outdoor seating in the sun with a beautiful view and calm surroundings

Such a lovely free regional Gallery! I visited with my sister and was greeted by the front of house staff. She was warm and welcoming. The exhibitions on show were historical, dynamic, and humorous! Displayed beautifully. Thank you for making art accessible to the regional community.

Fabulous experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibitions, and thought it was beautifully presented. A real gem. The lady who greeted me at the front desk was welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful. Overall, NERAM is a real highlight and a credit to Armidale.

Nice museum with quality artwork, good ambience, and an enjoyable cafe attached for after your visit. And of course a gift shop, with interesting artifacts and prints. This visit they had an exhibit from the collection of Howard Hilton featuring very interesting paintings of Australian and International topics, a Ken Done exhibition, plus assorted contemporary works including some amazing water colours. Entrance is free, and you can make a donation by tap-and-go to support the museum. Also check out the various sculptures spread outside the museum and cafe!

Saumarez Homestead

$$$$affordable
Historical landmark
Saumarez Homestead, located near Armidale airport, is a remarkable two-story Edwardian mansion with thirty rooms. Built between 1888 and 1906, it holds historical significance as the former residence of the White family. The property encompasses 16 buildings on 10 hectares of land, including stables, a milking shed, and a blacksmith's shop.
We had a beautiful walk through the gardens for nearly an hour and then an hour tour. Definitely worth $15 each as it’s hard to see such amazing places without the dedicated work of the volunteers. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the property and its history. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend it if you enjoy seeing how people lived in the past and this family was very privileged and wealthy!!

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. Our guide was so informative and there was so much history to take in. Mary's garden was delightful too. Great place for a picnic.

Beautiful house in incredible condition. Our guides were lovely and very passionate about the house and it’s history. You must book in advance. Very worth it. Enjoyed it very much.
Valery J — Google review
An interesting place, well set up for school groups I imagine. The location the original squatter who owned most of the Tablelands set up their house. It has fantastic gardens that are well maintained and the house itself is still set up as it was 100 years ago.
Scott — Google review
While the homestead could have some restoration dollars spent on it and the garden definately needs work, this is an extraordinary time capsule of a wealthy but parsimonious (read Presbyterian) family's home life. Not to be missed by any visitor to Armidale. The house is only accessible by guided 1.5 hour tour but it is worth the time and the $12.00 The White family handed it (and the 20 odd acres it sits on) over to the National Trust and left. Everything was left behind, even the spectacular silver hair brushes, books, family pictures and family Bible. Didn't have time to get down to the farming sheds but assume that is equally interesting. Don't miss it. If you want to see the gardens and farming sheds and are going for the 3.30pm tour, make sure you arrive at least an hour beforehand to do so. No time after the tour.
Steven H — Google review
Only got to do the garden today, am very impressed indeed. I had a fall on a spot where water has run and made a trench. Very happy to such beautiful old plants.
Marian S — Google review
The gardens at Saumarez are amazing, especially Mary's, which is maintained by Jarrod the friendly gardner. Inside the house is a time capsule full of significant historical masterpieces of its time, and Lez the property manager was a warm-hearted welcoming man with extensive knowledge. If you love exquisite antiques, ambience, bygone architecture and the highest standard of customer service, then this estate is not to be missed whilst visiting Armidale !!!
An J — Google review
Stunning Edwardian NTrust house filled the White family's original furniture & posessions. A wonderful place where you can step back in time and learn a bit of local history from the knowledgeable tour guides. You can also wander around the extensive grounds.
