Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Nestled in the foothills of the Doi Suthep Mountains, Chiang Mai Zoo is a sprawling 200-acre wildlife haven that's home to over 400 animal species. This family-friendly destination offers a diverse range of attractions, including a snow dome, panda exhibit, kids' water park, and animal feedings.
One of the best zoos I have visited as someone who has visited multiple zoos in the USA. It is very clean and scenic. The zoo is located at the base of a mountain so it has a very hilly/steep terrain making the tram service/golf carts mandatory. Some signage is translated to English, but not all. This left me with some questions about different animals but nothing had zero English signage. I don’t have children but zoo felt extremely family friendly and many other patrons were there with babies/small children. It seemed like they were making major expansions and adding new exhibits which will probably make it even better. There was also the opportunity to feed elephants, which was a pleasant surprise! The insane views from the mountainside of Chiang Mai further made the trip worth it.

Chiang Mai Zoo (including Tram & Aquarium) – Monsoon Season Notes Total cost for one adult: approx. 900 baht (zoo entry + aquarium + tram). They do the tourist tax and it's pretty significant. WALKING HAZARD (this is serious) Don't walk it if it's been raining. I'm someone who averages 12–20 km a day and I still slipped while cautiously walking and gripping onto the rails. The main problems: - Smooth sloped concrete paths with no grip - Algae buildup makes it worse than it looks - Water channels and grooves funnel rotting leaves and garbage right to the centre of the paths where you walk - Piles of rotting leaves just left there to compost - Several areas alternate between ramps and stairs without logic, some slopes are a dangerous angle even if you are wearing hiking shoes like myself. If you're even slightly unsteady on your feet, just take the tram. TRAM Recommended even if you're fit. It does a full loop and stops at all the major exhibits. You can hop off, take a look, and hop back on the next one. Saves time and knees. Trams constantly loop too, so you can just rest and wait for the next. They do thin out around closing time. AQUARIUM Worth the detour. You have to buy a zoo ticket first, but the aquarium is modern, well-kept, and nicely air-conditioned. Kids would enjoy it, and it's a good escape from the heat or humidity. GROUNDS The gardens and general landscaping are gorgeous, a massive credit to their groundskeepers.. It’s just let down by unsafe walking surfaces. ANIMALS Decent variety. But during rain, expect them to be hiding. Not really the zoo’s fault, just something to be aware of. SUMMARY Dry day: do the full walk if you're fit. Still watch your footing. Wet day: take the tram. Seriously. Do not try to do it all on foot unless you like skating involuntarily. It’s a solid zoo with some great highlights, but the path safety is a real problem.
Jacob J — Google review
Zoo has a nice layout, but needs a little more upkeep on paths and painting. The 350 entry fee is misleading; you'll end up spending closer to 900/adult if you do everything. A couple recent reviews said they only saw 4 animals. Clearly they don't know how to open their eyes. I skipped a couple areas and still saw 76 species. It is worth checking out if you are here for 2-3 weeks and have ran out of things to do.
Keith L — Google review
Read some other reviews before you go, they were very helpful. Here are some: 1) Tram is a must! or else you'll suffer and wish you took it from the beginning cause there are alot of walking and climbing. Tram has 13 points that he stops at, you can hop off at a point, walk a little around and then hop on again into the next one. Price for tram is 70 THB. There is golf cart (for 4 or 6 persons) as an other option. 2) there are alot of activities and each one need to pay for it, entry fee to the zoo at the beginning is a must and cost 350 THB for adult, then there is the tram or golf cart fee. there are snow area and Dino area which we passed and I think it doesn't worth it except if you have kids and they love that things, and there is the aquarium which we passed too and it costs 450 THB, and finally there is the penguin feedings which was expensive and we passed it too but luckily visiting the penguins room was free and we had a lot of fun time there and highly recommend it. 3) alot of animals are missing! Some other animals are in single numbers only! To name some: Panda, Orangutan, Rhino, crocodiles, Gibbons.
Samer R — Google review
View and environment are great but the area is too large so should rent a buggy car. However, a buggy car can't stop during the ride except specific parking area so you still gotta walk a little bit to see those animals. And sometimes, the area smell is not great. But overall, if you have time, my recommendation is to rent buggy for 2 or 3 hours, which cost 350 per hours when I go, so you can stop and relax and will be able to see all
Shine S — Google review
We came here to see the panda and the red panda. When we first came into the park, it looked very deserted. We decided to not rent a tram or a golf cart because we didn’t realize the park had so many hills. We regretted that immediately. Pretty much this zoo is like a paid area for a good hike. There were hardly any animals out. The ones that were looked pretty sad and I kind of felt bad for actually coming here in the first place. We paid ฿350 for each adult ticket and I didn’t realize the lady handed me the tickets with the cash. I thought it was a receipt so when we tried to enter the park, I didn’t have a ticket and had to look around my money to try to find it. I wish they would give the tickets separately, so we can actually see them.
Brennah L — Google review
Very vast and huge area, rather low animal population. NO panda, no aquarium. I recommend using a cart to get around, as it goes up and down A LOT. It is s nice afternoon activity for 350 THB per adult. But don't expect too much.
Xanadu K — Google review
It covers a large area and since it's on the mountains, some places are little steep.Recommend taking a tram ride and visit all the stops.

Tweechol Botanical Garden

Botanical garden
Nature & Parks
Tweechol Botanical Garden is a vast 114-acre landscape located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It features a diverse array of flora, including 107 varieties of palm trees, succulents, bromeliads, orchids, and tropical flowers. Visitors can enjoy activities such as walking, horse riding, boating on the lake, and exploring a petting zoo. The garden also boasts an artificial waterfall and animal-shaped hedges.
This is an absolutely beautiful tropical garden with a nice little zoo. Most of the animals there have been rescued from other facilities and there are signs up that explain this. The garden itself is massive and highly recommend the bikes to get around and see everything. There was hardly anyone there, and just hearing the birds singing and the smell of flowers and herbs in the air was a nice break from the city. I thought it was excellent value (about 250 thb for entry and a bike) . Nice friendly staff too. Loved it!

What an amazing property! So much thought & care went into the design. The garden is beautiful and ever changing around each bend. I highly recommend planning an entire afternoon. Beautiful water features, romantic archways & lots of great suprises along the way. The museum was the perfect touch to end a very long walk!
McKenna B — Google review
A very enjoyable visit to the gardens today!! The staff were really helpful. Special thanks to Aof for his assistance!!! I would allow 2-3 hours if you’re walking. Bike is faster. Also, try not to come in the middle of the day as it’s too warm. Before or after noon there is plenty of shade. Just not midday.
Rebecca L — Google review
I love this botanical garden! While we were there, there were almost no other people except for stuff and it felt serene and peaceful 😌 There are many different areas to take pictures and to look at amazing flowers and trees. Zoo is quite small and cages are not big, that’s the only downside and why I took one star off. Even though it’s written on different plates that those animals are rescues, they still live not their best life, sadly.
Mi M — Google review
Odd experience. Paid and were told to wait for the golf cart. Driven around the whole complex with absolutely no stops or commentary straight back to ticket office. 15 minute drive for 89 baht each. We then walked back to the little topiary garden and museum where a woman barked at us to ‘remove shoes’ and ‘no photos’. First experience of a non-chill Thai operator. We then saw a little of the gardens before the deluge of rain hit. So I assume we missed a lot of the best parts. Extra cost for animal feeding - Animals were in very small cages. Entry costs done on height not age. Clean toilets and cafe on site.

stayed one night for seminars. good staff, well maintained. huge property might get lost easily 😂 had a great time visiting their animals section. cats are on patrol in each villa complex

A lovely half day visit to this beautiful botanical garden. 87 Baht entrance fee and 75 baht rental for bicycle. There are also electric guided tour vehicles.
Christian K — Google review
Wow! Such an amazing place to enjoy the good weather, to walk and explore the beautiful garden. This place is so much more than just a beautiful garden and it full of small and cute activities such like a maze, rock garden, tree house, bush sculptures, farm animals, swing, feeding stations-pay attention to this and ask about the food that you can give to the animals at the entrance, when you buy the tickets. there you can buy food and then feed the animals at the different stations, there is food for fish and for farm animals. The place is very suitable for kids. We were at the garden on Saturday morning and it was pretty empty. Moreover, when you enter the garden you can choose to rent a bicycle or a tram ride (which is free and you can take it along different stations in the garden). We walked by foot, it took us 3 hours to finish everything. The walk was easy and fun :) Pay attention to get enough water at the entrance (you can buy there), there is no places to get water inside. And there are plenty of bathrooms inside the garden. We sure we will come to visit again 🤗 Hope you will enjoy your visit there as much as we did🙏🏻

Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan is a revered 14th-century Buddhist temple located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is home to gold and copper Buddhas, ancient manuscripts, and intricate murals. The temple's main attraction is the Phra Phutta Sihing Buddha statue, which holds great cultural significance and is paraded through the city during the Songkran Festival.
Beautiful complex of temples situated at walking distance from the Chang Mai centre. It has some temples dedicated to monks as well as the classics Buddhist temple. I appreciate in particular the golden "stupas" situated at the back of the main temple. Worth a visit if you are around!
Stefano N — Google review
Highly recommend visiting this temple. Inside, there are a few shrines where you can take off your shoes and step inside to look around or worship the gods, which feels very spiritual. This is one of the best temples I’ve visited during my time in Chiang Mai.
Hoang N — Google review
A must visit place. I went here with my partner and it’s a really beautiful old temple. Specially during the sunset it shines beautifully! Every detail of the temple is just mesmerising. Evening prayers calms one down with monks chanting soothingly. As a foreigner you got to buy ticket but it’s worth the price
Prarthana D — Google review
Wat Phra Singh is one of Chiang Mai's most important and beautiful temples, famous for its Lanna architecture and gleaming golden structures. I first went at 4 pm, but it was very crowded. I returned at 6:35 pm, and it was less crowded, offering a better view for photos. I was able to enter for free and enjoy a peaceful moment as night fell. Seeing it illuminated and almost deserted was an unexpected gift. Travel tip: If you want to explore the interior at your leisure, go during the day; but if you're looking for a more serene atmosphere without crowds, a visit at sunset is magical. Note that the entrance fee is 50 THB if you're going to see the large Buddha. Otherwise, you can enter normally. You can walk there; it's close to the city center.
Daniel M — Google review
What has impressed me that Thai Wat are a sanctuary of Nature: fishes gambol in ponds pigeons pick food squirrels surreptitiously climb the trees. Here in phras Singh thou not water pond but plenty of greenery in conversation with thai temple architecture. Only thing disturbing was the side road on which traffic plies creating pollution in air and and in ears. There is a school it seems and diesel fume emitting buses carry children home may be. Buddha in art is in thai style with flyers for kindness to all living Beings hung around the golden stupa. I think they call Stupa Chedi here. May be I am wrong. Chiang Mai old town seems like a Buddhist pilgrimage. Buddha Namah!
Viktor V — Google review
THB 50 for entrance ticket for foreigner. There is a big golden Chedi in inside the area. This is one of the iconic temples in Chiang Mai Old City which is really worth visiting, beautiful, authentic and ancient.
Harry T — Google review
Beautiful temple with plenty to see. Highly recommend checking out the outside and inside of the temple buildings as there is so much detail and artistry on the statues, walls, and ceilings.

Wat Phra Singh – A Jewel of Chiang Mai Wat Phra Singh is one of Chiang Mai’s most iconic temples, famous for its stunning Lanna architecture and the revered Phra Singh Buddha statue. The intricate details, golden accents, and peaceful courtyards create a serene yet awe-inspiring atmosphere. Walking through its halls feels like stepping back in time, surrounded by centuries of history and devotion. A must-visit for anyone seeking culture, beauty, and spiritual energy in the heart of the old city.

Wat Phra That Doi Kham

Museums
Nestled atop a lush, forested hill on the outskirts of Chiang Mai lies Wat Phra That Doi Kham, also known as the Golden Temple. This hidden gem is celebrated for its magnificent 17-meter seated Buddha statue, which gleams in white and gold. With roots tracing back over a millennium, this temple offers visitors an enchanting experience filled with intricate shrines and pagodas to explore amidst the serene backdrop of the Doi Suthep Mountain range.
Short, beautiful hike with an impressive temple at the top! We are traveling in May so it was HOT and fair warning that the temple is extra hot. Not a ton of shade, and the sun bakes the white tiles which reflect back to you. Definitely be prepared with water, electrolytes, sunscreen, and a hat. A portable fan wouldn’t hurt either. If you want to hike to the top, you have to get dropped off at the parking lot/market across from Cup Fine Day. Keep in mind that it is more than just the dragon stair case you’ll have to climb. There’s about 300 steps through the forest and the staircase itself is about 180. There’s a sign that says it’s 1.5 kilometers, but that seemed like too much. It’s really quite short, but it’s steep. If you’re not up for the hike but still want to take the dragon stairs, you’ll have to get dropped off at the top of the temple and then walk down the stairs to walk up them. There’s not car drop-off zone at the bottom of the staircase. If you can, we definitely recommend the whole hike :) the forest is beautiful and you’ll see some cool animals. We saw a peacock!!
Emma R — Google review
Nice temple with a good view over the city. On the day of our visit it was heavily raining unfortunately yet we were lucky when the sun came out for a few minutes to see a Burmese Peafowl
Phil B — Google review
Wat Phra That Doi Kham is a peaceful hilltop temple with stunning panoramic views of Chiang Mai. The giant Buddha statue, fragrant incense, and calm atmosphere make it a perfect escape from the city. A beautiful spot for photos, quiet reflection, and enjoying local spiritual culture.
Toma B — Google review
Very beautiful Wat. It was a very hot day so we drove up. They have some very impressive statues. There are side shops that sell some things. Bathrooms are traditional no paper down the toilet type and were fairly clean when I used them.
Nick P — Google review
Might be the second most popular temple in CM after Wat Para that doi suthep. Poeple often called this temple ''the jasmine pagoda'', and you can see a street full of vendors selling jasmine flowers to offer to Buddha. People believe their prayers are mostly answered at this temple. Apart from religious view, the Viewpoint on the temple is stunning and there are many photo booths made for visitors.
Zaw N — Google review
The temple is famous and well known for Bhudda instant all the best wishes. It is a must to pay a visit and make a wish.

We didn’t hike, we parked our car in the parking lot which I think was free, along with (most I’m guessing) of the temple. Nice viewpoint and nice temple, busy but very few tourists

Wat Chedi Luang

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Wat Chedi Luang Varaviharn is a captivating temple complex nestled in the heart of Chiang Mai's Old City. This historical site features a partially crumbled chedi dating back to the 15th century, which stands as a testament to the city's rich cultural heritage. Visitors are drawn not only by its architectural grandeur but also by the pillar believed to offer protection to the city.
Absolutely breathtaking, especially at night! Wat Chedi Luang Varaviharn is one of the most beautiful temples I’ve ever visited. The golden details on the main viharn (chapel) shimmer under the evening lights, creating a magical and peaceful atmosphere. The craftsmanship of the carvings and decorations is simply stunning — every inch feels like a work of art. At night, the contrast between the softly lit golden temple and the ancient brick chedi behind it makes the whole complex feel timeless. You can quietly walk around, take in the history, and feel a deep sense of calm. Inside, the golden Buddha statues and ornate columns glow beautifully — it’s a serene and spiritual experience. If you’re in Chiang Mai, I highly recommend visiting after sunset. It’s quieter, cooler, and the temple looks absolutely mesmerizing under the night sky. A perfect spot for reflection, photography, and appreciating the beauty of Thai architecture and culture. 🌕✨

50 bht to get in. 100 bht to hire a sarong to cover knees. The ladies providing these are some of the rudest people I have ever come across in Thailand. They threw the sarong at me when I hired, when I took it back I put it down on the table to look for my return card, they started yelling at me in Thai and making furious hand motions trying to tell me to fold it up. I was completely dumb struck that this woman was having such a strong reaction but also, when I initially hired there was a massive pile just dumped on the desk so I’m not sure why I was being yelled at. I handed over the card, got my money back and got out of there as quickly as possible. Such a bad look for the northern thais who I have found to be the most welcoming friendliest people in Thailand as a whole besides this cranky young woman. Not to mention this attitude inside of a temple which is considered to be such a sacred place is really off putting! I wish I could rate the temples and service seperate however it was not a relaxing or spiritual experience being treated this way upon both arrival and departure of the temple. The rest of the temple experience was absolutely spectacular. I went at night so there were far less people and the whole place was lit up beautifully. There’s a lot to explore and doesn’t feel like you’re in the middle of the hustling bustling Chiang Mai. Definitely recommend. Maybe just take your own sarongs!
Julz P — Google review
This is one of the most impressive and historically significant temple complexes in the city. The absolute highlight is the central chedi (stupa), a colossal structure that, even partially in ruins after an earthquake centuries ago, demonstrates the grandeur of the ancient Lanna kingdom. It's incredible to think that this structure once housed the famous Emerald Buddha. The complex is large and features other very beautiful and well-preserved halls, as well as housing the city pillar (Sao Inthakhin). It is a must-visit. For foreign tourists, entry to the complex costs 50 baht per person. Payment must be made in cash.
Luana B — Google review
Lovely place. There is always something special about old plqces of worship and this one is no different. Its a great place to just sit and exisit. With the wanderings of people and monks, the ringing of gongs and periodic chanting from monks. I would recommend having a look. 800 years or sonof history. Small 50b entry fee.
Mark M — Google review
This is really spotlight in Chiang Mai Old City. Giant architecture with primitive material, making it an ancient look. There are also several small temples around in this area which are worth visiting. The entrance ticket price is THB 50 for foreigners. In the morning you can wait outside to see monks collecting alms. The white wall background with giant trees will make spectacular pictures.
Harry T — Google review
Located in the heart of Chiang Mai’s Old City, this is a truly magnificent temple steeped in history. ⛩️ Since I visited on a Sunday, the temple grounds were filled with young novice monks, creating a warm and peaceful atmosphere. The main hall and the entire complex are spacious, with a towering central chedi that dominates the site. Although parts of the elephant carvings were damaged—likely due to an earthquake long ago—the temple still conveys a deep sense of history and reverence. Within the grounds, there is also a beautiful golden reclining Buddha.✨ Gazing upon its serene expression brings a sense of calm and tranquility. In the evening, the temple becomes even more atmospheric, with the sound of monks chanting echoing through the grounds. The entrance fee is 50 Baht per person. If you’re visiting Chiang Mai, this temple is a must-see for those who wish to experience history, culture, and spiritual serenity all in one place.
TOMIO Y — Google review
Lots of temples and really cool to see the historic one where it’s showing its age! Part of the temple is still intact with the elephants and other parts are crumbling. One temple is male only, but everything else is open for everyone! 50 THB admission fee and a 100 THB deposit if you need to borrow covering.
Sarah P — Google review
Very beautiful inside the pillar with intricate artwork and informative displays. They maintained it well and it has integrity, respects it's traditions and not commercialized. However to enter the city pillar you must take off your shoes and the rule says that only men are allowed in.

Tha Phae Walking Street is a vibrant market in Chiang Mai that comes alive every Sunday afternoon until midnight. The area showcases local arts and crafts, offering a mix of traditional handicrafts and tourist souvenirs. As the evening sets in, the street becomes bustling with people enjoying the lively atmosphere filled with music from street buskers. Visitors can explore an array of products including handbags, t-shirts, postcards, and picture frames while also indulging in delicious Northern Thai street food.
A street full of life, best time to visit overnight of course, with plenty of vendors this is pretty much a street market as many in Thailand. A bunch of local tastes and apparel vendors we had a great time walking down there, unfortunately it was and apparently it’s always an overcrowded we had a card time tying to walk. The long time tho was worth and you should make this a mandatory stop during one of your free evening and night

Welcome to one of Thailand tourism's true travel icons ... Sunday nights come alive in this premier location for travellers headed to Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand, as the mega market opens up over, then dominates through, several blocks in town. It is quite the marathon (if one truly wants to explore the depth and breadth of these markets, as I did ...) and at the finishing line, I reckoned it was well worth the expiration, in doing so. Almost everything you can imagine being able to buy in a pop-up night market bazaar, is on sale here. Food glorious food, abounds. And whether you want something to go and or, would like to take a load off, to dine-in, you are well and truly looked after here. In addition to the amazing food and drink, there are awesome local arts, crafts and homewares, on sale, plus lots of curious people watching opportunities, too. I will be back ...

Visited the Phae Walking Street (Sunday Night Market) by Tha Phae Gate last Sunday. It’s open only on Sundays, 5:00–10:30 PM. Hundreds of stalls sell handicrafts, local art, clothing, silver jewelry and northern street food like khao soi and mango sticky rice. Go early (5–7 PM) to avoid peak crowds, wear comfy shoes, bring cash (some accept QR), keep valuables secure, and bargain politely. 😊 Remember everything can be bargained although try not to do so on fixed priced items with prices written. Walkable from the Old City, family-friendly, lively, and a Chiang Mai must-visit. Also smoking and alcohol is banned in the street.

Of course a must-see when visiting the majesric city of Chiang Mai! Very lively, beautiful square and always decorated nicely for the current events. Delicous breakfasts, lunch, dinner and dessert at every corner. Shops to buy anything you'd ever need, and tons of polite and good people, both locals and other tourists. The gate itself really shows you how old this city is, and they've taken well care of this landmark.

Wow, it was kind of an endless street with shops when the Sunday market was happening. Keep eating something so you don't get tired of exploring. The price was decent( comparatively less to Bankok) but you need to negotiate, without negotiation the price was very high. You can easily spend 2 - 3 hour along with dinner.

Night market only on Sundays! Lots of foods, snacks, drinks and arts and crafts vendors all along the Ratchadamnoen Road starts from Tha Phae Gate. Lots of vendors, lots of foods, lots of fun!! Also LOTS OF PEOPLE!! If you have little kids and elderly becareful because they’ll get lost in the maze of people. Vendors are mostly cheap but their arts and crafts are mostly cheaply manufactured. Lots of cheap souvenirs. Towards the middle of the walking street, there’s a lot of massaging chairs along the walk way. Pretty cheap for an hour of massage but I wouldn’t do it too often. Doesn’t seem too hygienic, people from everywhere lining up to get massages but if you look there’s no where for them to wash their hands either.

This is night market . If you like art,you will love this market. There are many cheap cloth and souvenirs for you to choose. And around market have temple if u want to learn thai culture, you should come this place.

The is a Sunday night market on Rachadamnoen Road. The road temporarily is closed as a pedestrian only walking street. Always crowded with tourists. Lots of stalls selling great variety of products, ranging from handmade products, handicrafts, artwork, souvenirs to inexpensive clothing. There are some food stalls. I tried a few but not recommended.

Tha Phae Gate, a well-preserved city gate with a rich history dating back to the Lanna Kingdom, was originally known as Chiang Ruak Gate. Situated by the Mae Ping River, it served as a vital entrance for trade routes. The gate's name was changed to Tha Phae, meaning 'Harbor of the Floating House,' reflecting its connection to river traders and fishermen. Today, it stands as an iconic landmark within the ancient city wall of Chiang Mai.
Here’s a description in English about a country's heritage and a city's historical sites that attract tourists: --- **Cultural Heritage of the Country and Historical Sites of the City** The country's rich heritage is reflected in its diverse traditions, languages, and customs. Each region tells a unique story that showcases its historical significance. In the city, historical sites such as ancient temples, colonial buildings, and museums attract tourists eager to explore the past. Visitors are often captivated by the well-preserved architecture and the stories behind each landmark.

Tha Phae Gate is a decent spot to visit if you're exploring Chiang Mai. It’s a popular landmark with historical value, and there’s usually something going on around the area, like street performers or markets. It’s not overly exciting, but nice for a quick walk, some photos, and people-watching. Worth stopping by if you’re nearby, but not something to go out of your way for.
Yosu R — Google review
The gate is always full of people during day and night. I preferred to visit it during the night as local vendors come out and make the place more vibrant. This place is definitely a must visit. For ladies they do photoshoot with provided dresses. The guys doing it seemed to know what they are doing, no idea what they charged but if thats your thing then enjoy your photoshoot too!

historical place. there are many pigeons here, very beautiful to take pictures. around there will be people selling bird food and helping us take pictures (for a fee). and some young people ask us to support money for poor children, I don't know if this is legal but you should pay attention

One of the most iconic landmarks in Chiang Mai. It’s perfect place to start exploring the old city, surrounded by charming cafes, local shops and street performers. The atmosphere is lively during the day and even more magical at sunset.

The Phae Gates are a nice add to Chiang Mai but note there are a lot of birds! Very cool to see the bricks of the old gate. After you see it once, it’s just a gate to pass in between to get between old city square and the outside on the east side!

Ancient wall build by a king to protect chiang mai city from invaders. Now it is a most famous landmark in chiang mai. Grate location for a photo videos and at night small vendors are there to sel handmade goods

I visited Tha Phae Gate and absolutely loved the vibe—this iconic eastern entrance to Chiang Mai’s 13th-century walled city has been beautifully conserved and even rebuilt in the 1980s to echo its original grandeur. Walking through the gate, you feel part of centuries of history, as monks, traders, and diplomats once passed right where you stand. Today it’s a lively square surrounded by crumbling city walls, temples, cafés, street vendors, and occasional festivals like Loy Krathong, Songkran, and the colorful Sunday Walking Street . You can see Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra Singh, and grab amazing local food—think khao soi and sausage nearby . To get there from The Astra Sky River, I hopped in a Grab for about 60–80 baht (~$2 USD) and was there in 5–7 minutes—super easy and cheap. It’s the perfect spot to soak in history, grab a coffee, and explore the heart of Chiang Mai!

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is a lively market in Thailand's northern capital, offering a wide array of experiences. The historic center is surrounded by monasteries and temples, with accommodations ranging from traditional homes to modern city hotels. The night bazaar, open from 18:00 to 22:30 daily, features an extensive collection of stalls and shops selling local crafts, souvenirs, street food, clothing, electronics and more.
A fun filled night bazaar that has food, games and cheap stuff to buy. Be ready to bargain, never take the first price. Best to bring cash as some vendors don’t prefer credit (costs them a %) My favorite was the potstickers or fried dumplings, however you may call them in your part of the world.
John F — Google review
What a fun experience. If you've ever done any night market you'll know what to expect here. Vendors, food, and music. It definitely was more tourist than locals, but the vibe was still high energy. The street food was delicious. I didn't do much shopping as I went solely for the immersion. There are a lot of people moving all over the place so if you have children, keep them close. As adults we got separated. A good time was definitely had.

Markets for days. One of the best in Thailand. Friendly vendors. Realistic prices, not pushy at all. Great experience. Food options were also delicious. Plenty of different stall instead of the same thing over and over. Give it a go. You won’t be disappointed.

I bought a high quality crocodile wallet that would be at least $150 anywhere else. At the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar I got it for 950TB - $29. Crazy… Also bought two zipperless pieces of luggage (carry-on and medium) for $42. My wife got Thai pants for all her friends in Florida for 100 TB - $3 US. Great deals nice people good value. Recommend
Steven N — Google review
Big market, not cheap (compared to another markets) but negociable prices. Spread over several streets and covered areas (in case of a rainy day), it is very crowded and the stalls are repetitive. There is an area of food stalls (cheap and tasty) and a seating center with benches with background music from a singer or recordings - music that is pleasant to the ear. Public toilet, disabled friendly fot 5 baht. There are nice "cabaret shows" free entrance but must order drinks not expensive, nice attraction for a few hours on the go.

We visited several night markets in Chiang Mai, and this one was definitely the best. Very huge. It has many offshoots spread across different buildings and streets, offering a huge variety of food and things to buy.
Kristen B — Google review
Many different kinds of food available. Some better than others. All very affordable. Muay Thai fights also happen here regularly. We went and saw an event and it was impressive and enjoyable. And, of course, affordable. Great! There are many stalls to buy souvenirs or clothing at. You can negotiate the price down at all of these stalls. They expect you to. I definitely recommend going here. A great way to spend an evening in Chiang Mai.

If you're seeking an authentic experience in Doi Inthanon, look no further than บ้านพักแม่กลางหลวงวิว. This charming homestay is run by a welcoming family who also manages the surrounding farm, ensuring a genuine connection to local life. While English may be limited, the hosts are incredibly helpful and friendly, making you feel right at home. The accommodations are simple yet comfortable, featuring clean rooms with essential amenities like hot water and electricity.
Tambon Ban Luang Homestay, which we discovered on Facebook, offers an excellent experience. The service is outstanding, the breakfast is delicious, and the view is breathtaking. It’s not a star-rated hotel or a luxury stay; instead, it’s a typical village house near the paddy fields, offering a charming and authentic experience. The room is clean and equipped with a gas-powered water heater, adding to the comfort.

Amazing place to stay! It was a very authentic and real way to spend just one night in Doi Inthanon. I traveled with my significant other and we were pleasantly surprised at the views and experience we had. The hosts are a family that run the farm and the sleeping accommodations. Each of them were nice and very helpful. English is very limited but more than enough for some foreigners. There are some really friendly dogs, too! This place is in a great location for seeing other parts of Doi Inthanon.

We spent two nights here booked via a private tour. The tribe’s village is quite built up, this accommodation isn’t in a secluded area, felt more like a small village town rather than a tribe. The first night other guests had a party until 6am so we didn’t get any sleep as the huts have no insulation or sound proofing. The second night everyone went to bed by 10pm luckily. Rooms are individual huts, basic but clean. En-suite bathroom is a wet room. Rooms are freezing at night, would suggest they provide hot water bottles in every bed (as other accommodation when it’s this cold around the world do). Bed was comfortable, WiFi in rooms. Food was delicious and freshly cooked. We’ve stayed at other tribe homes including Sapa, Vietnam and that was a much more authentic stay, their home was remote and you learnt about their life, culture, could interact with them. Whereas at this stay it was just like staging at any standard hotel. If in the area again we wouldn’t stay here again.

A lovely waterfall in Doi Inthanon National Park requires only a short walk and a little bit of hike from the main entrance. Visitors can get close to the waterfall to enjoy the relaxing view or have a photograph taken with the waterfall. It is also a good place to rest after a long day and drive. There are seating areas for visitors who do not wish to take a walk to the waterfall area.

If you're visiting Doi Inthanon, make sure to take the time to visit the nearby waterfall. It's truly a remarkable sight, with a rainbow often visible amidst the falling water. The waterfall is a popular stop on tours of Doi Inthanon and well worth the visit. The natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere make it a great place to relax and take in the scenery. I highly recommend stopping by this waterfall during your time in the area, it's truly a magnificent sight to see.

San Kamphaeng Hot Springs

San Kamphaeng Hot Springs is a popular attraction located just a short drive away from the resort. For a modest fee, visitors can explore the beautiful gardens and enjoy the steaming pools and rivulets of the spa. The hot springs offer therapeutic waters where visitors can relax, soak their feet, or even boil eggs in the warm water. The site features various pools for swimming, private bath houses for families or couples, and camping facilities.
Lovely hot spring I use this hot spring to break up my road trip. It been hectic up to that point. It is half an hour out of town and 15mins to Mae Khampong. Has foods, hot spring soaks, massage service, playground and picnic area. I would not come here as the end destination but it is a lovely way to spend an hour or 2 chillaxing.
Nisit P — Google review
The third annual Light Festival at San Kamphaeng Hot Springs offers a modest but charming display, though it comes with some drawbacks. The main illuminated installations are visually appealing but limited to just a few key spots, which might leave visitors wanting more. The paths between displays are dimly lit and, in some areas, wet and uneven, so bringing a flashlight is a must for safety.Food options are disappointingly sparse, with only a handful of stalls, limiting choices for attendees. Navigation is another issue—there’s a lack of clear signage directing visitors to the event entrance, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the mandatory 40-baht parking fee feels steep, especially considering the rough, dark walk from the parking area to the festival grounds, where extra caution is needed due to the uneven terrain.Overall, while the festival has potential, improvements in lighting, signage, food variety, and parking logistics would make it a more enjoyable experience. For now, it’s a decent outing if you’re prepared, but it falls short of being a must-visit event.
VICKII V — Google review
There is differential pricing for foreigners and Thais in relation to the entry fee (100B/40B) and 1-hour massage (250B/180B). But the private hot spring room is 65B/person regardless of nationality. You can choose your experience and pay accordingly. The grounds are expansive so you can spend hours here. The open air foot massage was outstanding. Some of the facilities, like the private hot spring rooms, could use a facelift.
Deborah L — Google review
Packs of dogs fighting everywhere. The map is confusing. The place is not signposted and there are no friendly people around to ask. As foreigners we felt like we were out of place and being given strange looks. The fact that the eggs are cooked in the main spring really put us off. The whole place was not well maintained. The toilets were not good at all. The smell of rotten egg was everywhere. It was overpowering and sickening to the point where we felt like we could not breath. I would not recommend this place to tourists at all. Find a hot spring that does not allow people to cook in the same water people are going to be bathing in.
Julz P — Google review
The mineral pool is nice and it’s not super expensive, it does feel a bit wrong that you pay to get in and then pay for everything, even the mineral pool which I feel is why everyone comes so no need to charge separately, it would feel better to incorporate that into the entry fee. It also feels like a bit of an abandoned place with some areas really not being very nice
Ben H — Google review
Interesting, for a brief visit, if only to see the evidence of volcanic activity . The main attraction is egg boiling, and soaking legs and feet in the hot water. There is a swimming pool and play area for children, and food and drink for sale.

Nestled in the lush forest of Mae Kampong, the Mae Kampong Waterfall is a must-see natural wonder. A short hike from the main village leads to this majestic waterfall, which cascades down seven rocky steps, offering stunning views and ample photo opportunities. The walk to the waterfall is relatively short but uphill, requiring some effort, but the reward is well worth it.
The waterfall is walkable from Mae Kampong village🚶 I hiked all the way to the top viewpoint, and it was totally worth the hike! The trail isn't too tough, short hike very nice👍🏻 I went in early March, just as the low season was starting, so it wasn't crowded ✅Bring some water (please keep it clean – there are bins at the entrance)🗑️

Well worth the drive even though the road does become very narrow and the usual car that has its emergency blinkers on to justify parking the car in a way to block the lane. Plenty on good restaurants on the way and hanging over the river.

There is a good trail going up along the cascades. It is well maintained with railings. If you walk all the way up, you will see many levels of the waterfall and find some swimming holes. There is no fee. You can pay 20B for a two-row pick-up truck to take you from town to the trail head rather than walking up the whole way.

Though it's not the most beautiful waterfall, but it is still very cool and fresh at that place. One of the good places to spend time with the nature here. Pha Chor canyon Is approximately an hour's drive from downtown Chiang Mai and is situated within the Mae Wang national park. Entrance for each foreigner is 100 baht plus 30 baht for a vehicle. There is a very modern, well designed walk when you get there, approximately 400 m there and 400 m return. There are steps, narrow pathways and a few awkward places where older visitors should take care. Views of the natural phenomena here are spectacular, and there is excellent signage in both Thai and English. Be sure to have a camera for the excellent views. And water to keep hydrated. There is ample parking at the beginning of the walk. Just view some of the many photographs to see what an interesting place it is here. There is a drinks shop at the main viewing area where there are some great views over the surrounding area. Very highly recommended for a visit.

Parking is available for cars and motorcycles. There are spacious and clean toilets too. Before hiking to the Pa Chor Geotectonic, you can get refreshments or snacks from here. Or stop by here to rest after the hike. We arrived at almost lunch time and the hike was a about 20mins, combination of downhill and uphill. It was hot even when there's plenty of shade. Pa Chor is beautiful though and the hike is interesting considering the plants/trees has existed for millions of years.

Nestled in a vast and picturesque landscape, Chae Son National Park is a haven of natural beauty. The park boasts mountains, forests, and stunning waterfalls, as well as year-round hot springs that are a major attraction. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich forestland teeming with streams and wildlife. A highlight is the Chae Son Hot Wells, where natural hot water pools allow for unique experiences like boiling eggs or indulging in mineral baths.
Good hotspring with cold and hot water. You can buy raw eggs and boiled it as well. You can also take a bath privately, but for me the mineral foot bath is the best. Waterfall itself not far from here not recommend to swim at the waterfall since the hotspring will be better.
Grady L — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit, ended up spending most of my day here. There are 2 attraction in the main area: the Chae Son Hot Springs & the Chae Son Waterfall. The price is 200 TBH for foreigners, 100 TBH for Thais. The Hot Springs are extremely popular with domestic tourists. The main activities are boiling eggs, soaking the feet in the hot springs, and pickniking. The site is beautiful. Food and drink are available. The ticket includes access to a foot soaking area, small outdoor hot pools, and a stream where you can take a dip. The private bath areas are beautiful and cost only 50 TBH. Towels are available for rent. It's okay if you don't have a swimsuit, the rooms are fully private. There's also a massage pavilion, the price of a massage is only 200-300 TBH. You need to wait until a masseuse becomes available and they'll come get you, there's no front desk. For hikers, this is really an onsen first and national park second. There's only a very short path to the waterfall. The waterfall itself is unremarkable and swimming under it is prohibited. To get there, follow the stream up from the hot springs. The trail isn't marked so I ended up walking on the road. The trail is blocked beyond the 6th level of the waterfall. There was a signpost claiming that there's a 5km trail to the Mae Mon & Mae Khun Waterfalls. I couldn't find any info on this trail. There's also allegedly a "Mae Piak Nature Trail" somewhere in the park, but I couldn't locate this either. It's possible that the blocked off trail leads to these and you need to hire a guide to hike there. The park also allegedly has caves, couldn't get any info on them either. I gave it one star less because of the lack of hiking trails.

What an elegant park to visit. I almost thought I was back in Japan. It was that manicured especially in the hot springs area. The waterfall is impressive too with a small wall to the base leading up to the waterfall proper. Well worth a visit and can be easily combined with a visit the the sky temple, not 30 minutes up the road.

🌿 I visited the beautiful Chae Son National Park for 2 days and stayed one night at the campsite. If you’re driving from Chiang Mai, I highly recommend taking Route 1252. I mistakenly took the route through Mae Kampong village, which was very steep and challenging — not suitable for small cars like a Mazda 2 😄 🎟️ Entrance fee is 200 THB for foreigners, regardless of having a Thai work permit or pink card. Each national park in Thailand has its own policy, so always check ahead. The park is great for kids, with hot springs and a waterfall to explore. As other reviews mentioned: the bathrooms are clean and well-maintained. 💦 I definitely recommend taking an onsen bath at the hot springs — mine was 40°C and incredibly relaxing. They allow you to soak for 15 minutes, which was perfect. ☔ The only downside during our stay was the heavy rain, but despite that, we still had a lot of fun here. Highly recommended!

Great place to relax! Big and scenic area with multiple hot springs. You can boil eggs, have a picnic, massage and soak in one of private onsen cabins. Also there are bungalows for overnight rent. Foreigner entrance fee is 200 THB. Visit date: 26 Oct 2025

Hot spring was fantastic, boiled some eggs while there, and enjoyed a great classic Thai massage.
Juul L — Google review
Great experience to feel the warmth coming from the spring and be able to use it for footbathing. You can rent a towel for 20 BTH. People buy eggs at the 3 shops higher up inside the park itsself and slowboil them in the hot water. You can also find a waterfall there with a trail besides it that goes far up. Very affordable entry, 200 BTH per adult (think it was 50 BTH for resident and 20 BTH for parking or the other way around). Only the road to there from Chiang-Mai was very long through the forest (2h almost).

Perfect for a couple of days of golf. However there is nothing else around and there is only one restaurant. If you are planning to go downtown to the city center, it is not recommended.

Review is for the golf course only. Played Wednesday 24 September. Course was in excellent condition despite the heavy rains recently. Very soft in places but it was a great day out in a great course. We played B & C

Very nice course, the caddies were a bit quiet. But the course was enjoyable and fun to play. The club house was top notch as well as the drink huts. Buggies had an iPad with the course, which is good when your watch runs out of battery.

Hotel facilities are nice with pool, gym and breakfast, but the staff were not honest in rates for the rooms. The rates given at check out were higher than quoted and did not match website rates. Disappointed with the interaction with the staff upon checkout.

The golf course is nice. It is remote and there is definitely some price gouging to be ready for. Definitely not worth the experience of a day trip from Chiang Mai.
Chris M — Google review
A golf course 30 km from Chiang Mai, this golf course is situated next to a majestic mountain as the view. The hotel room was nice and clean, with basic hotel amenities. The 2 downsides of the hotel here is that: 1. The hotel breakfast was not really delicious. 2. Location was quite deep in the woods and 30 km from Chiang Mai city. There are not many restaurants around this location that the golf course is situated in, but I would highly recommend KOI Lakeview Restaurant (not sponsored) for the restaurant near this golf course. Food was absolutely delicious! For golf, it included both a golf driving range and a 27 hole golf course.

Great golf course, it has a nice shop and cafe, caddies are friendly and the rest of the staff.

Did not stay at the hotel but played three rounds in mid-Jan. One of the two very best courses in Chiangmai (the other was Highland). Great layouts and condition but way way overbooked during peak season, took avg 4.3hrs to play. During one round, there was fivesome in front us which took over 2.5hr to play 9 holes.. we passed them after front nine and by the time we finished 18, there were 2 holes empty behind us!!! (Par 4 and par 5 holes). They really should not allow fivesome during peak season.

Wat Chamthewi, which was constructed in the 13th century and located approximately 2 km from Lamphun's center, features an intricate pavilion and a multi-tiered chedi reminiscent of a pagoda. This temple is sometimes referred to as the 'topless chedi' due to its lack of gold covering. It was established by Queen Jamdevi, who was the first Queen Regnant of the Haripunchai Kingdom.
I was much taken by my all to brief visit to this temple complex. Always fascinating to see these ancient buddhist structures, the other thing that caught my eye was the amazing wooden house, check out the size of the supports. Wish I had more time today

It can't compare to Wat Prathat Hariphunchai nearby, but still worth a visit. I love the ancient Chedi in the Hariphunchai style with the standing Buddha's along it's sides. The Assembly Hall is the key building on this site and is open. Some nice murals inside depicting Buddha stories. A couple of small water features on the right side as you enter the site.

If you are interested in Thai history, it is a place to visit. It is close to the museum, so I recommend you to go to the museum first and visit it after understanding the history. It is a beautiful temple that contains the history of the queen who created a city-state.

This is the largest temple in Lamphun city. You can buy offerings next to the ticket booth. Devotees walk in a clockwise manner thrice to ask for blessings. There is a shop selling drinks in the temple grounds. If you are hungry, you can head to a famous longan noodle shop just across the bridge, within 5 minutes.

I went here during the Lamphun Lantern festival. The color of the lantern depends of the day you were born, so make sure to know that. Lamphun City isn’t too far from Chiang Mai, about 25 minutes by car. It is another temple you should visit. It is a beautiful place that isn’t too far. Must see!

Wat Phra That Hariphunchai is a magnificent temple located in the heart of Lamphun, Northern Thailand. Steeped in history and spiritual significance, this ancient temple is one of the most revered landmarks in the region and a must-visit for both cultural enthusiasts and spiritual seekers. Dating back to the 11th century, the temple was originally built during the reign of King Athitayarat of the Hariphunchai Kingdom, which predates the Lanna Kingdom. Its most iconic feature is the golden chedi (stupa), believed to enshrine a relic of the Lord Buddha. The chedi gleams brightly under the sun and serves as a symbol of Lamphun's rich heritage. The temple grounds are serene and beautifully maintained, featuring a blend of Lanna and Hariphunchai architectural styles. Visitors can admire intricate carvings, traditional murals, and ancient structures that tell the story of a once-flourishing kingdom. The atmosphere is peaceful, making it an ideal place for quiet reflection and prayer. Wat Phra That Hariphunchai is also an important pilgrimage site, especially for those born in the Year of the Rooster, as it is considered their zodiac temple. The temple hosts several important Buddhist festivals throughout the year, attracting both locals and tourists. Whether you're a history buff, a cultural traveler, or someone seeking spiritual insight, a visit to this temple offers a memorable and enriching experience.

The Thai Elephant Conservation Center, located just a 30-minute drive from Lampang, is a government-run facility dedicated to the preservation and care of Thailand's elephants. Visitors can engage in various activities such as feeding and bathing the elephants, watching them create art, and learning about conservation efforts. The center also features daily elephant shows showcasing traditional logging techniques and painting demonstrations. Additionally, it hosts the annual Khan Tok Chang festival celebrating the cultural significance of elephants in Thai society.
My friend and I had a good time observing elephants taking shower with staffs, their performance and artworks. There are souvenirs shop, canteen and accommodations. They have hospital and nursery for elephants. We were on an elephant ride with a staff. It was a great experience
Vipawee L — Google review
Easily accessible from the main highway in any direction with clear signs that provide visitors with the necessary information on what is what and where, in both Thai and English languages. The entire land layout is divided into sections such as the elephant show, elephant hospital, elephant rehabilitation, and so on. There was no entry fee to the place, however, there are tickets stalls for different events. Because it was midday and hot, nothing much was happening other than elephant back riding which we couldn’t do as it was too hot for us and the elephants too. Elephants back riding costs around THB 140 for a 10 minutes journey. There were small restaurants and coffee shop serving limited selection of local dishes too. Strange enough, the majority of the visitors were locals and it looked like we were the only tourists there. It was very quiet and looked semi deserted, but it should deserve better.
Husain ( — Google review
This isn't an elephant show or entertainment park. There are limited activities, all focused on the deep relationship between elephants and Thai people. I've seen many foreign reviews alleging animal cruelty and forced behavior. Do you really understand "Asian elephants"? This facility cares for both domesticated and wild elephants, and I believe their methods are appropriate for the elephants' well-being and natural environment. Please don't judge based on a limited or biased viewpoint.
Pisanu.n — Google review
When we entered the ticket booth, I saw an elephant next to it walking freely. I thought the elephant would have some freedom and would be taken care of. When we entered the park, I saw the elephants being chained with a small metal chain. They looked distressed and wanted to roam around of course. They showed monotone behavior (head swaying from one side to the other, even the little ones) which tells me they are not being good taken care of. Later we walked to the bathing area. The keepers would hit an elephant with the hook. I already wanted to go out, but then we just walked away. It's a shame that this is how elephants are being taken care of in a conservation center. Give the elephants some natural ground to roam around with an electric fence/natural barrier. The hook and so on isn't animal friendly at all. For me it was a waste of money seeing they profit of this kind of behavior.

We visited Thai elephant conservative centre on a weekday and arrived early, so the place was very quiet with hardly any other visitors. It made the experience feel even more special and personal. There are two elephant shows during the day — we watched the elephants painting and showing different skills such as pulling logs, dragging timber, and even playing sports. The highlight for us was definitely joining the elephant bathing at 13:30. It lasted about 20 minutes and was truly one of the most amazing experiences of our lives. Being so close to these gentle giants in the water was unforgettable. Highly recommended if you want a unique and meaningful encounter with elephants in Thailand! 🐘💦
Duangrat W — Google review
I love elephants so wanted to see this place but it was a bit disappointing. The shows are only every 90 minutes or so and you need to check the times otherwise there's not much else to see. We missed a show but didn't want to wait for the next one so just got a bus to the elephant paddock. Most were chained and clearly stressed. Probably wouldn't go back
Craig B — Google review
My visit to the Elephant Conservation Center near Chiang Mai was excellent and exactly what I hoped for. The atmosphere is noticeably peaceful , a huge plus if you want to avoid the typical tourist rush and chaos that can plague other spots. What struck me most was the large number of magnificent elephants and the genuine care they receive. The staff are truly friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about their conservation work, which made the experience feel very professional and informative. If your travel goal is a quiet, respectful, and less crowded opportunity to observe elephants, make this center your top choice!
Usama S — Google review
The animal abuse was soil crushing. I’m so ashamed my volunteer group took us here. They would hit the elephants with metal hooks and they would cry out in pain. This place needs to be closed down permanently.

Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao Suchadaram is an ancient temple complex in Lampang known for its diverse architectural elements, including a gold-plated spire and statues. An amazing experience, spiritually and artistically. It houses one of Thailand’s Emerald Buddhas and has a large reclining Buddha that’s well known. The temple's pristine preservation showcases exemplary Lanna religious architecture, with minor renovations maintaining its original style.

An interesting and impressive display of magnificent structures. Plenty of various activities were performed. There were many visitors, some coming in tour coaches, while others flock in on foot or private transportation, to admire this marvel, or perform their rituals and prayers. The place was practically full of tourists that come from everywhere. Beautiful, and must see.

◽️Highlights & Must-Do: •Upside-down reflection of the stupa – Traditionally viewed inside the ordination hall (currently under renovation). You can still see it in the side viharn on the left; look carefully on the right-hand table once you step inside. •Circumambulation (Walking Meditation) around the stupa – The temple provides flowers, incense, and candles for offerings, for 20 THB for a donation. •Ancient Lanna murals – Located in an open viharn at the entrance, these are among the few surviving Lanna-style wall paintings in Thailand. •Bullet marks on the iron fence around the stupa, with interesting historical stories. 💰 Entrance Fee: 40 THB for foreigners.

On one hand it’s a must see of historical and cultural significance. On the other hand if you have limited time in Lampang it’s out of the way. A Grab from city center will cost you about 170-200฿ each way. Temple entrance fee for foreigners is 40฿ if the person collecting has change. The trip is about 30 min (over 20km) each way and you can see everything in less than an hour. So if you have 2 hours and 500฿ it’s worth going. Honestly it’s a bit underwhelming compared to other sights in Chiang Mai area. However, it is nice to stroll around and take in the ambiance.

Maekasa hot springs is definitely a place not to miss at Maesot in Tak province. The place is clean and to soak your feet for a warm relaxing sensation for free. You can book a private room to get a dip in the hot spring water tubs for an extra fee of 60bht per person to enjoy the benefits of the natural minerals bath from the hot spring on your skin. This would boost blood circulation to reduce stress and tension in the muscles. It soothes relief from pain and skin irritation. Not to forget to take a quick shower after and drink plenty of water. Also available are small pretty baskets of chicken and quail eggs to dump in the hot water and in 20 minutes ready to pop them in your mouth with the savory Maggie sauce. Try to walk in the dangling wooden hanging bridge but be careful of the broken weak wooden planks. Tread attentively up to the shrine cave. Many Burmese tourists and locals devotees offer their reverence at the shrine. Not to miss the nearby Maekasa Waterfall.

A little run-down and needs some loving care and attention. We didn't see any staff members around to help or ask questions when we visited on a quiet Thursday morning, but at least you can sit and enjoy the (hot!) footspa for free, and the little fountain they have built for the thermal water to flow out from is very impressive. But for a really relaxing experience, try the other hot spring on the other side of town - it's worth the extra money.

The great place of holy pagoda of Thailand. In Thailand we believe say " The Pagoda of people born in horse year.
Anirut A — Google review
Beautiful pagoda and well maintained surroundings. Wear thick socks if you want to walk around the pagoda in day time or start in the evening because shoes are not allowed. The museum is quite interesting. It contained items donated from the locals. You'll get to see a glimpse of how they live over time.

Great place to see, halfway to Bangkok halfway to Chiang Mai , nice river town

A very interesting homage to the king who lived in the mid-1700's, defeated the Burmese and reunified Thailand before being deposed in a coup and executed in 1782.

King Taksin was one of the greatest King in Thailand. His army fought our countless armies who wanted to control Siam, previous Thai country name. Locals prays respect to him and his contribution in important occasions. Nice place to visit and lean about our past history.

I visited this monument while traveling from Sukho thai to Chiang Mai. It was a much needed stopover. I enjoyed the view, several life sized idols of chickens, horses, soldiers and other artifacts. I might have visited this place for free and there was a free parking in 2023. There is a clean toilet on-site. There is a nearby street food market and the nearby road has several other restaurants. The food prices might be cheaper compared to Bangkok.

This is a nice and peaceful shrine to a local hero and Tak native who became king of the nation in a time of war, and saved it from the invading Burmese. Many Thais come here to pay their respects to a national hero. It is a nice, clean and quiet place in the heart of the city.

Wat Saphan Hin

Ancient Ruins
Wat Saphan Hin is a significant site located on a hilltop, featuring a remarkable 12-meter Buddha statue and surrounded by column relics. Accessing the temple involves a walk or climb up the hill, making it unsuitable for young children, elderly individuals, or those with mobility issues. While tickets are supposedly required for entry, some visitors have reported being able to bypass this process by driving past the ticket booth unnoticed due to the lack of staff in the area.
We visited this place at sunrise early in the morning ... it was simply magnificent, what an inspiring place. As we were the only early birds we fully enjoyed our private moments connecting with the Buddha and the nature surroundings, this was sooooo energizing. Love

Very satisfying experience. It is a little far to get there but definitely worth the effort to visit. Very quiet wooded surroundings with a lot fewer tourists.
Arthur L — Google review
It's the main ruins in the west area. This may be the only one where you should visit in the west. You have to go up a bit, may take 10 to 15 minutes to come to the top of the hill. There is the ruins on the top of the hill and you can see nice view from the top. It's worth to visit.

Wat Saphan Hin is a serene hilltop temple in Sukhothai Historical Park, known for its towering 12.5 meter standing Buddha and panoramic views of the surrounding plains. Sitting about 200 meters above the ancient city, Wat Saphan Hin dates back to the 13th century. A place of royal pilgrimage, King Ramkhamhaeng is said to have visited to pay his respects. The temple’s name, which means “Stone Bridge Monastery,” comes from the slate pathway that leads visitors up the hillside. It is calming as the Phra Attharot Buddha stands doing the abhaya mudra hand gesture, symbolic of reassurance and protection.

3rd July 2023. The highlight of the west area is definitely Wat Sapuan Hin. Worth 100baht, the cycle & climb up the hill for the tranquility & serenity. I think another 25baht for bringing the bicycle in. My visit was interrupted by a brief rain shower but I was the only visitor. South from here are other historical sites all the way till the Dam, also worth the time & effort too.
Heng F — Google review
Wat Saphan Hin is a FREE visit area in most west zone out of Sukhothai Historical Park. You need to wake up early if you want to enjoys the view of sunrise (prefer start depart at 5.30pm) because this temple built on the hills approximately 50m high. At here you can feel the peaceful and quiet atmosphere, is a place that suitable to calms and ponder.

Phra Ruang Hot Springs

Mentioned on

Nature & Parks
Hot Springs & Geysers
Phra Ruang Hot Springs is a serene and affordable hot spring located in a remote area. The main hot spring has a temperature of about 65°C, and its water is pumped to bath houses around the facility. Visitors can enjoy soaking their feet in the free feet soaking pools or opt for a 30-minute session at the bath house for just THB 30. The tranquil atmosphere allows for relaxation, with the option to rent private pools with hot mineral water for a rejuvenating experience.
A hot spring water today around 60 degree is still too hot formy feet. You can also soak your body in a privateroom for your body. Parking are available in their parking area.
Dach S — Google review
This is a very tranquil place. Free entry to wander around the grounds and soak your feet in hot water springs, if you wish! The water is around 60 degrees Celsius so quite hot enough. There are not many amenities but the toilets are clean. There is a possibility to have a hot bath or even stay on site in a cabin.
Richard B — Google review
Just pass by. These guys don't care about anyone. Look around, and you'll understand everything. They don't care about the cleanliness around and don't care about the guests. We rented a private bath, some more people were immediately brought into it, despite the fact that my things were already lying there. Everyone around was laughing and smiling, well, that's how it happened, show me your tickets. In general, it was necessary to immediately pay attention to the condition of the whole complex and the basic cleanliness in the bathrooms and run, maybe the socks would have remained on me. And so... you can watch, try to swim, maybe you'll like it, but take it into account, they haven't been cleaned there since the 90s As a bonus, I attach a photo with the remains of garbage burning. What is prohibited by the law of Thailand

Excellent place and location. Great service. Great prices. Friendly staffs. Phra Ruang Hot Springs , also known as "Bueng Sap", is located in Kamphaeng Phet Province and is a famous health tourism destination. Legend has it that this hot springIt was caused by the King wanting to boil chicken that followed the chicken fighting. Therefore, he cursed the water in the lake to be hot. And when you need cold water to wash the chicken So he cursed another pond to be cold.. Phra Ruang Hot Spring is a natural hot spring with 5 points of water springing up from underground. The temperature is approximately 58 degrees Celsius. This hot spring is considered sacred water and is used in important national ceremonies.

It is very well maintained. The entrance fee is 30 Bt. The foot bath is free. A private room is a bargain at 50 Bt per hour. A rental towel is 10 Bt. The bath🛁 was spacious and comfortable😊 There is also a fan in the room, so it is comfortable😊🙆‍♀️ The hot spring was colorless and transparent without any sulfur smell. The staff were also very kind.
Mitsu K — Google review
the place is beautiful and well maintained. BUT: 1. the stereo is tuned on radio , loud, with commercials, so it's not really peaceful but annoying 2. there are separate bungalows with artificial baths. it's not possible to deep outdoor expect to deep the feet only. such a waste of hot springs!!!
Hagai P — Google review
A real hot spring in the middle of no where. CHEAP but out of the way. The temperature of main hot spring is about 65C. The hot water is pumped to bath houses around the facility. They allow you to drink water from the main spring. You can soak your feet in feet soaking pools for free. The bath house only cost THB 30 for 30 minutes. Really good service with very nice people. If you are in the area - highly recommended.

Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park is an expansive archaeological site in Thailand, featuring the ruins of a palace, various temples, statues, and walls. The larger section of the park offers well-preserved ancient structures that provide a glimpse into the region's rich history. Visitors can explore the extensive ruins that cover many square miles and imagine what life was like 700 years ago. The site is well-maintained with English signs throughout, making it accessible to international tourists.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site should be on any Thai history / culture buff's list of must see places. The park is HUGE with 30 ancient temples and other structures and meticulously well kept by its staff. We were welcomed in the visitors center by extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff who were eager to show us around, lecture us on the history of the temple ruins and the ancient settlement. They were also quick to answer any questions we had about this remarkable place. We were even offered a free guided tour on one of the electric busses to the four biggest and most important temples. The park has lots of trees and there's plenty of shade to be able to enjoy the temple ruins during hot days. Visitors are allowed to enter the park with their own car and there are good roads to navigate on throughout the park. There are also plenty of clean toilets, a couple of places with benches and a little shop selling cold drinks and snacks. The Kampheang Phet historical park is larger than the Sukhothai historical park and has a few unique features that cannot be found elsewhere in Thailand. (Largest laterite temple column, most ornate elephant sculptures on single temple building etc). The park is not crowded by visitors making it perfect to explore in peace and quiet and to be able to shoot some really nice pictures. The long and impressive old city wall is free to visit and has some enormous trees growing on it making for great pictures. We stayed 3 days in Kampheang Phet and spent one full day exploring the historical park, city wall and other ruins.

We went around 17:30 and it was completely free to visit, we saw some "visitor fee" signs but there was nobody to collect payment. It is good and walkable in the Leaning Budha part, which is to the south, but walking then to the western part we were greated by many many many dogs, they were all over the park and honestly did not seem friendly, the temples are okay but not worth dealing with the dogs, which we had to scare off with big stick at the end and make our way out quickly. The park has great historical value and potential, and it looks like they are trying to make it more accesable with brick alleys, but the dogs should be their first concern, I think.

A Unesco world heritage. One of a historical park in this province for studying with total area around 1600 rai. You can drive along the yellow line road to look around the park. Entrance fee will be charged at the entrance.

The temples, Buddha statues and park are incredible. And few tourists made it here. A highlight of any trip to Central Thailand.

UNESCO world heritage and 100% worthwhile to visit. We recommend to take a guide to gain interesting insights about this historical place. We were almost alone and enjoyed it much.
Martin S — Google review
So the historical parks at Kamphaeng Phet has two parts, this is the larger part where you can drive your car in. Suggest you to buy the combined ticket for both sides (foreigner 300 baht car 30 baht) The city needs to do much more to promote thier heritage sites as there was barely any visitors as I drove in on a Sunday noon. This park is under appreciate by both locals ans foreigners a like. In my opinion the sites at Kamphaeng Phet are even more interested than Sukhothai
Albert S — Google review
Peaceful nature and not too hot thanks to the trees. It is possible to walk from one park to the other. But there are far too many street dogs, easily dozens. Be prepared to step in their poop. Also the 300 bhat entrance fee, which does not include the museum, is apparently not enough to clear out these mean dogs.
Froude S — Google review
Great place to visit. Historical site, well kept and clean. You can drive through or get a tour.
