We had a great experience here. Lots of interactive and very informative displays. My kids have a wonderful time. There is a cafe and gift shop on site and lots of parking. Staff were friendly and helpful. Such a vital service for the remote and rural communities.

Went to the Royal Flying Doctor Experience with my family. We all enjoyed it. There is plenty if information presented through video, audio and stunning displays for the adults, and many interactive experiences for the kids. Val and Warren were great guides. Both full of information and happy to take the time to explain things. Don't forget to pop up to the observation deck where you'll get a great view of Dubbo airport.
Emmanuel G — Google review
This is really only one room, but the video presentation is good, the layout is good and there's interactive stuff for the kids. One hour will be more than enough here, but we enjoyed it.

Great educational and very informative, helpful Ambassadors. A great hands-on adventure. Definitely recommend to everyone

Old Dubbo Gaol

Museum
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Old Dubbo Gaol, a heritage-listed site, offers guided tours and interactive exhibits that provide insight into the dark history of the Australian judicial system. Built in 1871 and used as a penitentiary from 1847 to 1966, this well-preserved prison now serves as a museum featuring animatronic models of inmate life, a gallows pole where eight men were executed, solitary confinement cells, and more.
Well maintained buildings and grounds. Difficult to imagine the living conditions the prisoners had to endure all those years ago. Many rooms had photos and stories of the prisoners and offences committed. A replica gallows in the yard. A gallery of uniforms and memorabilia. Also got to see and participate in a skit preforming an escape attempt. What a hoot. Pension discounts available.
Randy D — Google review
Such an interesting and historic place. Very eerie walking through the jail cell building. Worth a visit. Street parking or parking near the information center available. Small little gift shop and toilets on site.
JazzGee — Google review
The old gaol has a fascinating history. You can do self-guided tours. Lots of info, pictures and holograms to bring to life the stories of the prisoners. Definitely recommend when in Dubbo.
Paul H — Google review
I truly enjoyed the night tour. Lots more information on prisoners stories, more quiet to be able to hear and the two fantastic tour guides Chad and Milla. Enthusiastic, full of life and great sense of humour, excellence is my word for these wonderful young people. Thank you so much for an memorable and fun night. I did attend the day before and ended up leaving. Two groups of schools entered, at different times. Sadly it was so noisy we couldn't hear ourselves think. I feel the public could be informed of school visits to work around the school schedule, so the public can make a decision to whether to attend at that time. I feel the teachers, parents and dubbo jail have an obligation to teach our children some good old manners. This allows children to listen and respect others around them and some thoughtfulness to others. Constantly ringing the big bell was not only annoying but deafening. Never an issue or a problem on the kids having some fun, but not Constantly over and over. It was so bad we all left. But overall a fantastic experience.
CHOOKA — Google review
Fun experience for kids with a show where kids can help a convict escape! Also really interesting and educational for Australian history.
Kristy S — Google review
Plenty to see and do here despite it looking really dull from the outside. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. There are character performances and self-guided tours of the cells, hospital and grounds. Plenty of exhibits and photos of the executed prisoners, if you like that part of the macabre. Worth a visit if you're in town. We spent about 90 minutes there.
Daniel E — Google review
Geez it wouldn’t have been an enjoyable stay in the Old Dubbo Gaol back in the day! Very well preserved and presented, gave you a real sense of what it would have been like to be a prisoner here years ago, stinking hot in Summer and bloody freezing in Winter…damn!! Glad we stopped in to check it out!

Loved it here and a pleasant way to spend a few hours, would have been a hard life here in those times and the special act they put in was fun

Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden is a picturesque and family-friendly destination with free admission. It consists of four distinct garden areas: Shoyoen Japanese Garden, Sensory Gardens, Oasis Valley, and Biodiversity Garden. The serene Shoyoen Japanese Garden is particularly popular for its traditional landscape and features like a small lake with Koi fish, a waterfall, and birdlife. Adjacent to the garden is the Dubbo Regional Adventure Playground, making it an ideal spot for families.
This is a lovely area. It is not too big that you can easily walk around with young kids. There is a pond with huge carps and a resident pelican. Lovely flowers and gorgeous plants all around.
Anne R — Google review
This is a Must-visit attraction in Dubbo. This Japanese garden is beautiful with a little lake that has some of the most amazing colourful, huge sized Koi fish, few different types of ducks and other birds, many exotic varieties of trees plants and flowers etc. There's also bbq and seating areas located within. The relaxing atmosphere here provides for a refreshing experience. Highly recommended.
Malay A — Google review
Beautifully landscaped and well maintained gardens and playground. The playground is fenced with several picnic shelters, and a toilet block right in the middle, with a flying fox, large concrete slide, climbing frames, hammock, and wheelchair accessible swing which appeared to be in good working order when we visited. Note that although fenced, the gate is left open. The Japanese gardens are enclosed separately to the playground. It features meandering pathways, a magnificent weeping willow and a large pond with waterfall, ducks and koi. Small children need close supervision in this space due to easy access to the water. There are also toilet facilities at the back of the Japanese gardens. Definitely worth a visit for all ages. We loved it so much we came twice during our stay in Dubbo.
Edwina B — Google review
The botanic garden development began in 1999 and currently comprises one adventure playground, and five distinctive garden spaces; Shoyoen Japanese Garden, the Sensory Garden, the Biodiversity Garden, the Oasis Valley and the Wiradjuri Garden. It is open 7 days with shorter time on weekends. You can book for guided tours by calling the council. Alternatively there is an audio app that you can download on your mobile phone. It is over a large area and can take some hours to visit. The Japanese house on site has limited numbers at any one time and hence needs to be prebooked. Popular place, need to go early to avoid the heat as well. You can get there by car or public transport. Toilets available. Uneven terrain, lot of walking. You can spend several hours here depending on your interests. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Free entry. Beautiful place. Lots to see especially in spring when blooms are out. Lovely place for picnic. Great place for photography.

Beautiful lil Japanese garden. Nice place to chill out get couple thousand. Steps up. Also across rd major shopping centre

Very interesting place. There is no need to buy tickets for garden entry. The garden was so beautiful and very silent, peaceful. We have play area opposite Garden. Kids can Spend time the play area if they get board. When We went, we had plenty of parking but during school holidays and peak time may be busy.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Taronga Western Plains Zoo, established in 1977, is a 300-hectare open-range sanctuary featuring over 4,000 rare and endangered animals from around the world. Families can embark on a zoofari trip by hiring bicycles or Mini Mokes to explore the 6km circular track. The zoo's large enclosures mimic natural habitats for its over 700 animals. Visitors can't miss the Lion Pride Lands Exhibit and should consider driving through the zoo, especially during summer.
We drove our own car around the park which was very convenient, saved the legs of the kids y being able to just drive through at our own pace and have our car with us with snacks etc. The exhibits are very good, very easy to see animals, and we were very impressed with how much space the animals have to themselves. There are very well placed fences, making some areas seem like there is no fan e at all, but your completely safe at all times. I was particularly impressed with the Galapagos Tortosis, I'd never seen them before, same with the little honey eater birds. The hospital was impressive as was the expansion e platypus area. Only down side was the staff was not very friendly. Maybe they were all having a bad day, especially in the gift shop. It was a long weekend after all. But well worth the visit.

We came out to Dubbo in the July School holidays to visit the zoo with the kids. We’ve talked about it for a number of years and finally booked it in. We were considering staying at the zoo but you would need to remortgage the house to afford it so we choose much more affordable accommodation in town. We were considering booking the carts to get around as one of our kids has a disability and can’t ride a bike but they were all booked out for our visit. This actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise as you can easily navigate the park if you have your own car and save some cash on the carts. It was super easy to ride around the loop on the bikes with the other kids and only one spot where we had to drop the gears to push up the hill. Was good being able to ride the bikes up to each enclosure and plenty of bike racks throughout the park to leave the bikes. We did the safari adventure but was a bit disappointed this was an additional cost on top of the park entry, surely this should be included, just feels like something you shouldn’t have to pay extra for. Overall the enclosures are great with heaps of room for the animals to roam but like most zoos the animals do look a bit bored and need some action. All the herding animals are too relaxed as there is no predator threats and the predators just chilling as they don’t have to hunt anymore. I’m sure punters would pay good money to see the animals in a more real world environment. Imagine seeing the big cats in action stalking their pray, now that would bring in the crowds. Anyways, I’ll just saviour the time I got to see a white lion take down a water hen in its enclosure many years ago at a different zoo……priceless. Overall an enjoyable day out with the kids.

We have just enjoyed a completely magical day at Dubbo Zoo. We booked a night at Zoofari Lodge. The day we spend leisurely cruising round the zoo in our car (we would have hired a “golf cart” but it was quite hot and very windy so we settled for aircon comfort). We did two circuits of the 5km round trip and saw pretty much all that we could have hoped for. Up close and personal with lions giraffes and a whole host of other animals. We checked into our lodge at two pm and sat on our balcony watching zebras rhinos and giraffes wander past as they grazed the food which had been left for them in front of our rooms. We were then taken to hand feed giraffes, and then onto a private after hours tour of the zoo after it was closed to public. Our guide Hallie was really informative, giving us a great commentary as well as answering all of our questions, and there were many! What a great experience, one we hope to repeat. And we still have another day to roam the zoo tomorrow. Andy and Gabs.
Andy B — Google review
This is a great zoo with a wonderful variety of animals. I'd love if there were more carts available for hire as we arrived at time of opening and they were all sold out. It's a big day and by the time you get past the waterhole it's exhausting to think about getting out of the car....once again! But overall a wonderful day.
Kristy S — Google review
Quite disappointed with my visit. Most of the animals looked tired and not very active — the only tiger seemed depressed, pacing back and forth in the same spot. The rhino was just laying down the whole time, looking quite lifeless and uninterested. Didn’t see any platypus at all, even though there’s a Platypus HQ. I stayed around the viewing deck and pond area for about 15 minutes, trying to spot one under the trunks, branches, or hiding spots — but not a single platypus in sight. There was only one siamang, and a few Tasmanian devils, but they were really far away because of the enclosure and fencing setup — it kept people at too much of a distance to see clearly. The lions were in a group, and one male lion seemed alert and aware of his surroundings, which was nice to see. The meerkats were plenty, but honestly, it felt quite repetitive since you pass by several meerkat viewing points along the way. There was only one small bird enclosure with a honeyeater and a few other birds. The place overall looked a bit run down, and most of the big animals were just too far to enjoy. The best part was the Galapagos giant tortoises — there were a few of them, we could view them up close, and they seemed well cared for. The koalas were also lovely; I managed to spot three of them resting. Overall, the $50 entry fee really didn’t feel worth it. Melbourne Zoo offered a much better experience for the price. Also, make sure to buy tickets beforehand if you want to feed the giraffes, as they sell out quickly and can’t be purchased on the spot.
Calliope — Google review
We had a great time at Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. You can drive your own car through the zoo for free, hire a bike (not sure how much), or rent a cart for around $80 a day. There are several stops where you can park, get out, and see the animals up close. The zoo is really well maintained and easy to explore. We had burgers at the cafe freshly made and good! They mentioned our tickets were valid for two days, though I’m not sure if that’s the same on weekdays.
Awon T — Google review
An awesome day out for the whole family. You can bicycle around, hire a buggy or even drive your own car, stopping at each enclosure with heaps of parking. Lots of animals to see in a more natural setting.
Jayne — Google review
Great fun for families with young children and adults alike! The zoo is beautifully laid out, with spacious enclosures and plenty of opportunities to see the animals up close. The walking and cycling paths make it easy to explore, and the staff are friendly and informative. A wonderful day out that combines fun, learning, and fresh air!

We absolutely loved Wellington Caves! We have kids aged 8, 10 and 14, and it was one of their highlights of the whole road trip. The tour and caves were amazing, and the campground was peaceful and such a lovely place to stay the night. Couldn’t recommend it more!
Bec K — Google review
A great experience. Staff are fantastic and so enthusiastic and evidently passionate about what they do. Heating up food seemed to keep the staff overly busy and they could consider a way to get this done quicker or have pre heated food and maybe pre made sandwiches? (Just trying to help...) Would come again to see the other cave, we saw cathedral and it didn't disappoint.
Doug L — Google review
Loved this place. We spent the whole day here and did two cave tours and the discovery show. Loved the caves however they are both quite small. They are both very different, yet equally spectacular. We are lunch here and looked at the fossil in the mini museum, great day.
Kristy S — Google review
We had a great time and spent 1 hour there despite missing our tour due to road closures. The interactive room is so good. The Japanese gardens are also worth a look and are across the road
Michelle B — Google review
Park was lovely green grass. Our site was on a steep hill so either way we put the caravan either the drawbar was on the ground or the jockey wheel was chocked up very very high. Playground is out of action and the pool was closed for the whole time we were there. Being the long weekend it was not ideal when you have little kids with you. Cave tour was ok.
Julie M — Google review
We loved the Wellington Caves experience with Westie. He is a fun and lively local, and a great tour guide. We've traveled past the turnoff heaps of times and never before gone in. It's really worth it and something that should be in everyone's bucket list. Thanks also to the lovely young staffer who got us in to the tour as ring-ins. Paul and Michelle.
Paul H — Google review
We didn't stay in accomodation, just came for the caves tours and loved it. Had 6yo & 10yr old, grand mother and us enjoy thoroughly. Tour guide was amazing & very informative.
Carly M — Google review
I’m just appalled at staff who think it’s ok to talk to guests like a school child. Don’t turn up 7 minutes early for checking or you’ll be scalded. Don’t ask if the pool ca be opened a couple of days before October (even though it’s school holidays) or you’ll be asked questions like ”would McDonald’s let you in at 4am?” Well mane not mate, but at least they have customer service. Park is lovely itself. Bathrooms are clean but could do with some plumbing work. Cave tour, not cheap and honestly, meh.

Heifer Station Wines is a popular starting point for guided tours in the region, known for its farm setting with shaggy cows and friendly llamas at the on-site petting zoo. The tastings take place in rustic sheds, offering a unique experience of watching local wildlife before enjoying wine by the fire. The family-friendly cellar door is located in a historic Mt Canobolas woolshed and has received regional tourism gold medals.
Fantastic experience! We absolutely loved the venue, the team, and of course, the wine. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, making the whole visit even more enjoyable. The location itself is beautiful with so much to see and do—and we especially loved the chickens!

This place is amazing, I am a certified Chardonnay hater but theirs is fantastic! The first time I’ve ever ordered a glass of Chardonnay in my life! Plus the atmosphere was beautiful and the cheese plate was generous and delicious. Awesome staff, awesome place to spend a sunny day. Would give them an extra star if I could!
Bianca T — Google review
Today we had a great experience and time at Heifer Station just outside of Orange. The wine tasting was very good, just the right amount of information without anything pretentious and best of all we were left alone with the wine we were tasting at the moment so we could relax and discuss it privately. Their wines are superb and well worth the visit. The wine tasting notes had a very humorous touch which made them even more interesting to read. We also had the cheese platter which was very generous with a great selection: goats cheese, aged cheddar and a Brie, almonds, figs and a delicious relish. We had a great chat with the manager, Chewy, giving us the history of the original shearing shed converted into their tasting room as well the original old Cobb & Co stables beside the shed. It is definitely a great place to go even with young kids as there is a huge outdoor area with farm animals and a sandpit full of toy diggers.

The wine tasting at Heifer Station is a must when visiting Orange. The property is gorgeous and we loved visiting the animals on site after our tasting. Jordan was very knowledgeable, easy going and made the experience fun. Didn’t have the kids with us this trip but they would have loved the sandpit. Highly recommend.

An amazing winery! We went unfortunately on a very wet rainy day, but the staff made our experience so wonderful and warm with a hot fire place inside! Jordan took such great care of us, and was so knowledgeable on the wine region of Orange. Beautiful wines, and a surprisingly great house gin! We will definitely be back.

Orange Botanic Gardens in NSW is a peaceful retreat, especially during autumn when the trees burst into brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow. The crisp air, wandering ducks, and occasional bunnies make the visit even more delightful. A perfect place for a slow walk, family time, or quiet reflection.
Vinoth M — Google review
A beautiful spot in Orange for a stroll. The frogs were out in abundance after the rain, early spring colour and the smells of the Australian bush wafting over the rolling hills. You get the idea. Well worth an hour to explore the different species of plants and environments.

Beautiful gardens which are very well maintained. We did a slow wander around the walking paths and followed the map available in a brochure available at the main gate entrance. Cherry blossom was in bloom when we were there two days ago.

It's such a beautiful park. Created in 1875. Magnificent old trees. Beautiful gardens with a glass house, pond, fountain, etc. It is a pleasure to walk through and explore. It also has restrooms, kids play area and picnic tables.

Cook Park is an easy 10-minute walk west of the Orange CBD via Summer or Kite Streets. Cook Park embodies the seasonal colours of Orange all year round. Summer's arrival brings gardens of stunning and vibrant coloured roses. From February to April, hundreds of begonias bloom in the 'Blowes Conservatory', and in Spring, a burst of colour arrives with masses of tulips and daffodils. A great picnic spot as well with ample playing areas.

There are toilets and plenty of rest areas, plus a great playground if you’ve got kids in tow. Purchased a phone/ipad style mount. Works a treat. Enjoyable stop with walk around. Lots of street parking mid afternoon. Bit cool this time of the year but nonetheless worth the effort.

This is a historical park here in Orange and is a must visit. I will be returning many times as the park and its beauty changes daily. There is so much wonder and history to enjoy and be amazed by . Orange is known for its seasons, and this park is a fabulous place to partake and enjoy nature in all its glory. Add this to your daily walks or at least a weekly visit as this garden awakes from its winter slumber.

Beautiful place to take the family. There is a newly built playground on one side of the lake, take the bridge walk to the other side where you’ll see a great little cafe and flying fox next the the “beach” We highly recommend going when in Orange

Orange doesn’t have many destinations, so I end up coming here almost every week. This is the best spot! I love the view—it’s amazing and it’s free. No wonder people keep coming; it’s the perfect place to relax when you’re feeling tired.

Relaxing place to have a get together. It’s a great place to walk, run or rest. You can cross to the other side of the lake by walking on the Dam. Lovely spot. Toilets, BBQ, Kids playground available. Parking plenty

A great spot in the summer. Fast to get to and plenty of parking. Not crowed out. Swimming was great. Water was refreshing but not cold. Swim platforms are anchored a short distance off the beaches. There is clean sand and grass perfect for picnics. A kiosk is available for coffee, cold drinks, snacks and ice creams. The dam is perfect for swimming with the ducks.

Angullong Wines - Cellar Door Sales & Wine Tasting

A charming little cellar door in a pretty town just ouside of Orange. The relatively low altitude of most of their vineyards is well-suited to Italian varietals in particular. We ere expertly guided through a really varied tasting and found several wines that we like a lot. Definitely worth the short drive.
Simon V — Google review
Exceptional. As an European, I usually don’t like light red wines, as they are too watery and tasteless for me, but each of Anullong Wines was very good and really tasty. We ended up buying the red six pack. Tricia’s customer service and knowledge about the wines was excellent.
Simi A — Google review
Fantastic price for the wine tasting that has not been beat by any other places we visited. Staff was friendly and really helpful. Wine was awesome, our most favorite was Pinot Noir and Harriet. Sagrantino came with awesome biscuits, highly recommend to try the combo.
Jack R — Google review
Great cellar door! Delicious wines! 😋 Lovely old building. Real wood fire 🔥😍♥️ we were last tasting for the day, Kate was very generous with her time, very down to earth and very hospitable. Only problem we had was we couldn't decide which wines and bubbles we liked the most so ended up buying a mixed dozen (which isn't recommended space wise when in a tight campervan)! 🤣 Loved the experience and highly recommend!! 👍
Steve R — Google review
We visited Angullong yesterday and it’s become one of my favourite wineries in Orange region. All the wines we tasted were amazing and the hospitality was exceptional. We enjoyed learning about the family history as much as the wine. Highly recommend and would love to come back soon!

We recently visited Angullong wines as a group of 8. The two wonderful ladies were amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here, the wines were simply amazing and they were thorough with the tasting. We would recommend them 10 times over. If you are visiting the orange region, you must visit Angullong.
Mikaela D — Google review
Spent a few days in Millthorpe and had a wonderful wine tasting experience at the Angullong cellar door. Kate was a brilliant host and the wines were excellent. Their newly released Marsanne was a standout for us.
Jimbob — Google review
We loved the wine tasting at Angullong. Shayne looked after us and she is so Knowledgeable and charming (she even remembered us from months before). Make sure you book online and have plenty of time for tasting. They are so generous here and there are about 20 wines to try. I especially loved their reserve Shiraz, late harvest Riesling and Pinot Grigio (and walked away with a number of the reserve and late harvest - I still have last year's Pinot Grigio). They have all price and palate points covered, I highly recommend going to angullong.

Well worth a visit - great little museum run by friendly locals - fascinating displays of fish fossils that were initially unearthed by accident by a road construction worker.

Mark J — Google review
Age of Fishes Museum at Canowindra is well worth the stop. A terrific glimpse into the past, when fishes dominated the once inland seas. The fossil collection is a real eye opener and the result of many years of dedication putting it together. Kids with any kind of interest in science will love it. Friendly staff make it all the better experience.

If you have any interest in palaeontology or fish, then this is a must visit. If you have kids interested in dinosaurs, then I can highly recommend it as there's many interactive activities for kids. Even if you just have a casual interest in natural history it's worth a look.

Great museum covering prehistoric Age of Fishes. Best of only two similar museum in the world. We came to Canowindra only because of the museum. Exposition includes only small part of fossils discovered near by. Display is very interesting and informative. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the visit.

A wonderful museum with very important artefacts. Staff were very helpful and very lovely. A lot of interactive exhibits. Gift shop was surprisingly well stocked and also interesting. Worth visiting Canowindra for!
Nicholas R — Google review
What an amazing museum! Seeing such complete, ancient, rare, large, fossil fish was amazing . You are allowed to touch them giving a unique, hands on experience. The staff ween so helpful and knowledgeable to help my family understand everything. The displays had easy to understand descriptive texts to help as well. With tv monitors showing what these fish and life was like almost 400,000 years ago way before the dinosaurs. There were 3 large sections plus an outdoor area full of info including timelines going back to the beginning of the earth and so the beginning of life. This helped us all place how these armoured fish evolved along with dinosaurs, mammals etc etc all the way to humans. This is a truly world class site!

Cemeteries
The Japanese War Cemetery in Cowra, Australia, is a significant site that commemorates the lives lost during World War II. Established in 1964, it is the only Japanese war cemetery retained in Australia and contains the remains of Japanese soldiers who died during the 1944 Cowra Breakout and other Japanese nationals who perished on Australian soil during the war.
This cemetery houses the remains of Japanese people who died in Australia during World War II. The gravesite of the 234 Japanese POWs, who died during the ‘Cowra breakout’ in 1944, are located here. The remains of Japanese airforce personnel, who were killed during WWII raids on Darwin, are also located at this gravesite. There is no admission fee to this location. You may also be interested in visiting the former prisoner of war camp - it is located about a kilometre away from this cemetery. The renowned Japanese garden is located about 2 kilometres from this cemetery - you’ll find it near the lookout.

Cultural center
The Cowra Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre is a serene 12.5-acre garden featuring streams, ponds, and annual events. The town of Cowra is known for its historical significance tied to the Cowra breakout of 1944 and its association with Japan, promoting pacifism and internationalism. The garden holds significant cultural, architectural, and historic value as a symbol of goodwill, reconciliation, and peace between nations.
The gardens are so beautiful! Lovely to walk around, the birds and lizards are great to sit and watch. If you or your kids would like you can feed the ducks and koi fish but it is an extra charge for the food for them. The cultural centre is lovely, it gives some background to the building of the gardens and who created them. The Cafe is VERY busy so if you want breakfast or lunch reserve a table ahead of time! I ended up having to go somewhere else for lunch, all the tables that weren't taken were reserved. You can sit outside in the Cafe and look over at the gardens while you eat its truly a gorgeous peaceful place to visit.

What an amazing perfect Australian made castle we have out at Greenethorpe New South Wales I had the privilege of attending an open day this gave us all a glimpse of the past . the perfect gardens the attention to detail that the volunteers putting in day and day out just open the house for a few days a year. A must for all to see and visit. Definitely stay in Cowra and travel down for the day

Our delightful journey into the countryside to explore our own family history led us to the stunning Iandra Castle—and what an unforgettable experience it was! The grounds and home are lovingly maintained by a team of dedicated volunteers who pour their hearts into preserving this incredible piece of living history. The gardens are beautifully established, and the castle itself is simply breathtaking—full of charm, stories, and wonder. It’s clear that so much care goes into keeping this special place open for the public. We were truly moved by the passion of everyone involved. Honestly, get your tickets, take the drive, and make a wonderful weekend of it. It’s a hidden gem well worth discovering!
Renee K — Google review
There was a ticketed Open Day at the castle today. The gardens were beautifully presented. The rooms in the castle are stunning and you could see the clear difference between the rooms for the family and those for the servants. The volunteers do a great job both with the public and how they present the castle.

Beautifully manicured lawns and gardens surround the lovingly restored buildings. Steeped in history, this is a wonderful place to visit and definitely worth the trip. Full of old world charm, it’s a history lesson in itself. Be sure to take a wander through the grounds and enjoy the rose gardens.
SARGES’ F — Google review
We were blessed to visit the castle on a beautiful Autumn day. You can buy tickets online ($20 adults). Not as much a castle as a large manor house, this piece of Australian history is local legend. Well run, and supported by local groups such as the Lions Club who sold sausage sandwiches and drinks, local volunteers also gave interesting lectures about the history of Iandra Castle. You can tour the main house, stables and garden at your leisure. We brought a picnic lunch with us and enjoyed it on one of the ground level verandahs. On the day coffee was available from a van, and the Young Steam engine enthusiasts had their steam engines chugging away near the stables. A most interesting and enjoyable day soaking up the sunshine and Australian history.

Beautiful place with loads of variety of farm grown honey. The owner is a beekeeper and does all the hard work to produce the honey. There is a honey testing facility available inside the shop. Owner is lovely.

Lots of delicious honey! I really liked this shop, as a quick stop during one of our recent adventures. Not only does it have lots of honey to taste test and a surprisingly wide range of bee gifts, but it also a small amount of bee keeping heritage. I enjoyed looking through the history whilst mulling over exactly how much honey I could consume in a day. The service was lovely and the atmosphere in the shop is very relaxed. There are plenty of items designed for children and also a good range of other local prices that isn’t honey based. I also notice honey based skin care items too. Well worth a visit, and there is coffee and toilets nearby for travelers. It’s in a very pretty location with plenty of things to check out and wander through.

As someone who doesn't know much about wine, I was a bit hesitant at first, but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I'm so glad I did! From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the overall presentation and cleanliness of the winery. The ambience was warm and welcoming, creating the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing day trip. The scenic views of the vineyard added to the charm and made for a lovely backdrop. The service I received was exceptional. I regret not catching the name of the staff member who assisted me, but he was absolutely brilliant. He took the time to explain the different wines, answered all my questions, and truly engaged with me throughout the tasting. His enthusiasm and knowledge made me feel comfortable, even as a self-confessed wine novice. Unlike other winery tours I’ve experienced, which sometimes felt a bit pretentious, the vibe here was friendly and down-to-earth. Overall, my experience at Clonakilla Winery exceeded my expectations. I left feeling not only more knowledgeable about wine, but also with a newfound appreciation for it. I hope to return in the future, perhaps with friends or family, to share this gem of a place. If you're looking for a winery that offers great service in a beautiful setting, I highly recommend Clonakilla Winery. Cheers to new adventures!

We were very lucky to participate in the winery's 1st lunch with wine pairing. QT Canberra catered and Rob did an amazing job pairing the wines. We felt very welcomed. The whole team at Clonakilla were lovely. Thank you Caroline. The location is beautiful with well-maintained gardens and a modern interior. Rob - you did an amazing job! Your passion, knowledge and experience really shone through. Thanks. We'll definitely be back.

Wow. What a lovely experience. No distractions, this is a wine tasting for the enthusiasts, very generously, their iconic Shiraz Viognier was included. I hosted a tour group for three days through wineries across the Canberra Districts/ Murrumbateman region. We all loved the cool climate Riesling and Shiraz. You can see why Clonakilla is listed in Australia’s Top Wineries as released by the Real Review. Fantastic experience, very knowledgeable team. Well worth exploring. Thank you 🥂🥂

We had an amazing experience at Clonakilla Winery for my birthday. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable—with a great sense of humour too, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The selection of wines was outstanding. Clonakilla produces some of the best wines we’ve tasted in the Southern Hemisphere—rich in flavour and depth, yet without the over-the-top price tag. Each pour was a standout, showcasing the winery’s exceptional craftsmanship and character. The scenery added to the magic—peaceful, picturesque, and perfect for a special occasion or a relaxed weekend visit. Couldn’t recommend this beautiful place more highly. 10/10—Clonakilla is a must-visit for any wine lover.

Wine tasting at Clonakilla on a Friday was quiet, intimate and personable. Great range of wines, friendly and knowledgeable service and a warm fireplace. Perfect wine tasting experience.

Fantastic visit to the winery. Our host was great, very knowledgeable and shared a lot of the family history. The wines were exceptional particularly the Shiraz Viognier. We were visiting from Ireland and loved the connection to home. Bought a couple of bottles to bring in the suitcase.

Our recent visit was fantastic, thanks to our host Rob. He provided outstanding customer service and expertly explained each of the seven wines we tasted. The shiraz viognier and muscat were the clear standouts. We loved the shiraz viognier so much we bought a bottle, just as we did on our last visit! This is a must visit winery if you're in the area

Very happy to see strong adherence to Co-Vid safety for all. Absolutely fabulous wines and the vineyards are so close which just adds to the amazing experience. The service is friendly, open and honest. There is no selling pressure here as the wines speak for themselves. We bought 2019 Viogner 2018 O'riada Shiraz 2018 Shiraz Viogner all up 6 bottles. This is a must for wine lovers both new and experienced.

It is a great place to enjoy wine yard lunch without paying expensive bill. There is simple cheese platers and tasty wood fire pizza. I think it is more suitable for our group than the quiet romantic wine yard (different target dining experience) glad to have the lunch here and enjoy our relaxing lunch! However, I do agree the waitress is less knowledgeable on the wines. They could have introduced more when delivering the wine tasting.

We enjoyed a beautiful day at Four Winds Vineyard and found the staff were friendly and knowledgeable explaining what to expect from each wine as we enjoyed our Wine Tasting Flight. The pizza was the best I have ever had. A Hot Honey Pizza was to die for. The Potato Gorgonzola was milder in taste but very delicious. Thank you for a lovely experience and being able to take our little dog with us was appreciated. We sat under cover but with the sun on our back and it was lovely. We are from Victoria and were visiting relatives in Canberra, however that day we were celebrating my husbands birthday and he thoroughly enjoyed the day. Shame we don’t live closer to visit more often.

Beautiful winery to sit outdoors, enjoy great wine with breathtaking views. We tried the mixed and white / rose tasting flights with pizzas. The salami and black olive pizza was delicious. The potato and gorgonzola was ok, I hardly could taste the gorgonzola. Overall we had a great experience and really recommend this place.
Simone V — Google review
It's such a shame i visited this vineyard on a non-grape, non-harvest season as it was only the wood fired pizza i got to enjoy. I reckon, if it's grape season, and all bunches of grapes are hanging on those tendrils, my winery experience would be ten thousand times better! Just a little secret, we were in a big group when we dropped by and ordered every pizza flavour in the menu. Guess what? They were all exquisite.

Pizza was quite good. My kids enjoyed it, including the littlest picky eater. We took a mixed wine tasting set and it was not too bad either.. best of all, it's reasonably priced!

Had a great time here- wines and pizzas were great (wish the pizzas were a bit larger but just because they were so nice!). Lovely atmosphere too. Recommend visiting!

Love this vineyard! The wines and pizzas are excellent, without breaking the bank. Staff were great! Thanks for a lovely midweek meal and chat location!

Lovely place on a sunny day, otherwise you'll need a reservation to sit inside. Pizzas were good and the tasting flights reasonably priced.

Careys Cave

Tours
Nature & Wildlife Tours
Rachel took myself and three kids through the cave system. Much bigger than I was expecting, Alot of rooms and awesome formations. She was a fantastic guide and really engaged with the kids questions and interest. Loved it You need tickets, can buy there. There is also great picnic spots and bathrooms on site. Beautiful drive to get there from Canberra.
Michael — Google review
Cave was really really nice. Pictures don't justify the beauty inside. Geoff (tour guide) however wants visitors to learn the process of how things existed which make the tour a bit longer. But he was very knowledgeable about the cave.
Angel V — Google review
The cave was better than expected with a variety of of things to see. Time from arrival to leaving was 2hrs 44 mins. Expected time frame from Geoff was 1.5hrs. Good points Geoff was very knowledgable and friendly. There was a long introduction before entering the cave. This could have been partially completed inside the cave in warmer conditions. We all learnt a lot and the caves were unique and bigger than expected. Unfortunately the tour was impacted by a family with toddlers that were very noisy and distracting for us. At times we couldnt hear Geoff. The website clearly states no children under 5 years old and I agree with this as there is a lot of information young kids would not understand and it is a long tour. Our 10 year old really liked the tour as did we.
Paul M — Google review
Went with a bunch of my friends and we all absolutely loved it. The cave is stunning and our tour guide Geoff was exceptionally amazing. Not sure why he has so many negative reviews when his passion and knowledge of the cave makes the experience a million times better. Geoff was an incredibly friendly and entertaining tour guide. We all left with a newfound appreciation for the natural world around us. The cave is also in a lovely isolated area with a reserve nearby where you can set up for a nice picnic by the lake. Would give 10 stars if I could, highly recommend!

Not only is this an amazing site to easily access but you also get tour guide Geoff. 🦇 His mix of Kevin Bloody Wilson humour with his infinite knowledge of speleology will have you and every age group in your tour engaged and entertained. Do us all a favour and leave your smart devices outside - enjoy the wonder of Careys Cave. 😍😍
Amanda P — Google review
Geoff is a lovely guide with such passion and knowledge. His explanation of the cave’s history, geology, and features was clear, engaging, and way more than we expected. My mum and I truly enjoyed every moment of the tour and learned a lot from Geoff. We were a bit late due to the long travel from Sydney, but Geoff was kind enough to make up the part we missed after the main tour finished. It was absolutely worth the 4-hour drive.
Ivy C — Google review
Geoff is an amazing guide, knowledgeable and passionate about caves. He shared lots of information about cave formation with us, and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Our group consisted of two families with four kids in total, and Geoff's engaging style kept everyone captivated. The cave itself is vast and magical, making it a truly unforgettable experience. We drove from Canberra, and it was well worth the trip. The facilities include toilets and lots of space for a picnic. Booking is essential - you'll need to contact Geoff directly on his mobile number to secure your spot.
Anu A — Google review
Definitely book ahead otherwise you will pull up to a sign with likely no reception there! Geoff did an excellent job bringing the cave to life. He provided a lot of information and includes a hands-on table that let's everyone touch all the things! Recommend planning 2 to 2.5 hours for the whole tour.

Stylish cottage in a vineyard for refined bistro dining on select days, plus a cellar door.
The food was spectacular. The handmade pumpkin and goats cheese arancini were delicious. The fish tacos were light, fresh and divine. The lamb pita was succulent and were a perfect mate for the rose. A top meal and excellent service!

Stunning spot, lovely hars working owners & staff. We enjoyed the 7 wines tasting option and a lovely lunch. We took home a case of the Tempranillo which was outstanding and 3 bottles of the Red Muscat Sticky, which were also exceptional: Christmas plum pudding vibes. We will be back ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After searching through several venue alternatives for my daughter’s 40th birthday lunch, I settled on Lake George Winery and so very pleased I did! The staff and management were awesome. The food and wine was first class. The venue had a great atmosphere with plenty of room. The open fire setting setting and winter scape were just as they should be. Thank you to all for making my daughters day such a memorable one.

One of the best wineries in NSW! My mum and I did the $10 wine tasting and absolutely loved it. Our server, Theo was super friendly and knowledgeable. He guided us through each wine with great care and made the experience even more enjoyable. We also ordered the garlic bread, which was delicious and paired surprisingly well with the wines. Our standout favourite was the dessert wine which we couldn’t leave without buying two bottles. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend this winery to anyone visiting the area.

Lake George Winery was the perfect wedding venue. The stunning vineyard views and the wine cellar created a beautiful atmosphere that wowed everyone. Shelly and Simon were fantastic throughout the whole planning process, and accommodated every request. We can not thank all the staff enough for how well the day ran. The wine was exceptional, the service top-notch, and the entire day felt like a dream. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience—highly recommend this venue for anyone looking for a wedding location!

This place is fantastic 👌 👏I hired the dome and attended with family for a pre Mother's Day lunch. It was private and cosy with the heater to keep us warm and even on a dreary rainy and cold day, we all thoroughly enjoyed our delicious lunch and wine tasting surrounded by the beautiful vineyard. All the staff were very friendly, attentive and professional making sure our dining experience was a memorable one. I highly recommend visiting Lake George Winery and hiring the dome for somewhere different to enjoy a delicious meal with a unique experience. I will definitely be back with friends and family in the future 😊

Had a stopover otw back to Sydney. It’s a beautiful vineyard. We had lunch with a glass of wine and a coffee. Price is reasonable. Even weekdays, the vineyard did attract quiet visitors. The outdoor setting is relaxing. We really enjoyed the scenery and the wine here. I’d recommend this place for a stopover near Canberra or if you’re a wine enthusiast perhaps some tastings.

This charming restaurant is set above the vineyard and is really interesting, great vibe, with wine barrels around the walls. The service is terrific and the food outstanding. We had garlic bread, then, Mains: pork belly, barramundi and seafood spaghetti. Desserts: panna cotta, crepes, raspberry & chocolate mousse cake and coffee plus one had, and loved, the Lerida Shiraz . It was a cool spring day and chilly even with heaters going so dress warmly if the temperature is under 20. Layers, people! But honestly, it was terrific. We celebrated a 50th birthday there in style and the view from the restaurant and shop/tasting area, near Lake George, is stunning. Looking forward to our next visit.

Stopped for lunch at this winery and had a great experience! The food was delicious, and the location was super easy to access from the highway. While there’s a more formal indoor restaurant, we enjoyed the spacious outdoor area, which was perfect for us and our dog. The staff even brought out water for our dog. Highly recommend!

They have the best wine. Their red wine is amazing❤️‍🔥. I go there all the time. I drive 40 minutes to drink their wine. The place is beautiful, the service is excellent, and the staff are very respectful. I highly recommend going. Don't miss it. Even if you don't drink wine, the place has a great atmosphere. You'll feel like you're in an old Irish wine pub. It's like the one from Peaky Blinders. 😅 I love this place. You can explore the vineyards and how the wine is made. It's such a beautiful place. And don't forget to taste their coffee too.❤️🙏

Been here twice now and loved it both times. Nice little quiet spot to stop at on the way to and from Jindabyne. Tucked away, and worth the exploration to get there. We had a lovely spread of cheeses and meats, amongst other things. Plus a nice glass of wine made there, paired perfectly. Very cosy, and pretty with a view of the vineyards. Highly recommend 👍🏻

A delicious lunch stop. The half charcuterie board was perfect as we did not want a big meal. Beautifully proportioned for the meat eater and the vegetarian. The reisling was yummy. And the consistency was impressive as the espresso to finish with was really good.

Driven past there countless times to or from Canberra and finally made the stop for wine tasting and a light lunch and loved it. Weather was warm enough to sit outside in the courtyard overlooking pinot noir vines and Lake George was very picturesque. 2 ranges of wines their value Estate range and their higher end Cullerin with deals if you buy certain quantity. Good menu for grazing or full lunch. Worth the stop.

Additionally, it is located near the serene Percival Hill Nature Reserve, providing an opportunity to enjoy leisurely walks and observe local flora and fauna.
Best experience for both kids and adults! Highly recommend visiting, totally worth it. Heaps to see, & awesome how you get to touch the lizards too. All staff were lovely. Will definitely visit again. Awesome gift shop with lots of fun stuff for the kids. AND… you might just be there at the right time to see a snake having lunch! 🐍🐁

Very organised and well thought out reptile collection! I was pleasantly surprised as it might not be a big place but the exhibits are varied and informative I appreciate the effort and creative design of this place to cater to both kids and young at heart! I only gave 4 stars because the cafe was closed! I love the animals here and how they are cared for. I have been to some of the famous ( San Diego Zoo, Western Plains Zoo, etc) and not so famous zoos and animal sanctuaries ( Devils at Cradle, Reptile Sanctuary near Cradle Mtn) and zi think this place is in my top three! It helped thst we got there early on a Monday and we lracticslly had the place to ourselves, so we had plenty of tranquil time inmersing with the adorable creatures without conpeting with screaming kids, lol

We visited in the afternoon so it wasn’t as busy, but we enjoyed the crocodile feeding, petting a 2 yo crocodile and petting some lizards as well! The bugs and crawlies exhibit was great - seeing spiders, beetles and yabbies was pretty cool! Staff were super friendly and welcoming, there were two outdoor play areas which were both big kid and little kid friendly!
Bridie B — Google review
Canberra reptile zoo is really good and cute. It’s a lot of fun to walk around, it’s nicely arranged and decorated, so it’s easy to see everything. The shop also has a lot to look at, including supplies for your pet reptiles! The creatures all have plenty of room with nice habitats and look pretty happy! I’ve only dropped off a star because I noticed some of the lizards could be given some care to help shed. Most of them had scars and stuck shed, even missing toes. So it looks like they struggle to shed, and hurt themselves. They were in the middle of shedding when I visited so I just thought they could have some help to get comfortable. Some humidity or a warm bath maybe? Other than that everything is great! I recommend a visit, reptiles are the best!

Beautiful mini figures of little people living their lives. There are so many fun hidden gems! I loved the international display showcasing many countries. There were so many beautiful homes. Definitely recommend. Also had a fairly priced gift shop with some quite cheap souvenirs. There are mini animals for 1.50 and approx 7cm kangaroo toys for 75c!! Also has a beautiful cafe, but I didn't get the chance to order.

You also have the international section with fabulous buildings and monuments from many different countries of the world. There’s the Rose Room Coffee Shop to have something to eat and drink, and you can also take a miniature steam train ride. Adults are $25.00, Children (4-16 years) are $15.50. The steam train is $4.00. There’s also a great gift shop to get some souvenirs. Plenty of parking 🅿️ available and very accessible for people in wheelchairs 🦼. Well worth a visit. Thumbs up!!! 👍👍

Cockington Green is such a cute place to visit! We went when it wasn’t busy, which made it really enjoyable to walk around and take everything in. It’s perfect for kids they loved exploring the little displays and spotting all the details. There’s also a miniature train ride (extra cost) which was a highlight for the kids and definitely worth it for the fun experience. A lovely spot for a family outing!

I haven't been here since I was a little kid. The place is tidy and well kept. There are walkways good enough for mobility chairs and such but it does get cramped quickly. The trains and models are still running well. I bought tickets for the train but the queue was so long we had to leave and skip the paid train ride as we had to go. I'm glad they kept the photos showing the making of this place. As a grown up I'm glad to see them.

Iconic and quaint tourist attraction just outside of Canberra. Cockington Green Gardens is set in a beautifully landscaped garden area. This was a winter visit so there were not as many things flowering. There is a UK and International miniatures section with scale models. It will be good to see more models of more famous buildings if they expand out to future sections. Please fix the Machu Picchu model.. put some fake grass or moss grass on it as it looks so sad with the peeling bright green paint! The entry price is quite expensive for what it is. $25 for adults. We spent 2 hours here but that including 30 min for lunch and the queue for the mini steam train (+$4). Small cafe with only a few quick options for lunch. Recommend them getting a pie oven to serve more people faster as it took about 15 minutes to get 2 pies and it wasn't even that busy. Hot chocolate was nice.

Wow! Visited with my husband and our sons 1,2 and 17yo and everybody had excitement in different areas of the museum. We were in time for the tour guide and had interesting facts. Wasn’t boring at all. We visit during the winter holidays and it wasn’t packed at all. It’s not the big but displays enough for you to turn into a child full of excitement. My 2yo loved touching all that he was aloud to and yelling roar at every corner. Will definitely visit again next season. Thank you Canberra for all that you offer.

I love the national dinosaur museum! It has many great fossils and models, full of educational facts and a lot of effort put into the displays. The dinosaur garden is so much fun, the statues are so cool! It’s been so creatively done and beautiful! The gift shop is also great with lots of stuff to choose from, there’s some really nice souvenirs as well as the genuine crystals and fossils.

Very interesting and interactive. The kids loved the dinosaur garden. 2 year old was a bit scared of the moving dinosaura but the 4 year olds loved it. The other games outside were good too, the fossil brushing, puzzle and ring toss.
Melissa J — Google review
Dinosaurs are cool, if your kids might be interested, take them. You can do this in an hour, an hour and a half, for $20 it's a decent stop. Large play areas outside, and a lot of facts and learning within. If you have done Dinosaur museums in Japan or America this is not to the same scale of investment, it's smaller relatively, the animatronics are a bit more outdated. Hopefully they can find some funding to give it a refresh in future.

Brilliant little museum that fits in a lot despite its conservative footprint. Great displays with lots of information. Cindy was a lovely lady who gave us some great information when we arrived about the famous find of the raptor and protoceratops bones captured mid fight.

Took our sons here during the school holidays, and they both (as well as my husband & I) enjoyed learning fun and interesting facts about various dinosaurs and touched real fossil dinosaur pieces. There is so much jam packed into a conservative space and was also quite busy seeing it was the school holidays. Would love to see it expanded to a bigger building. The dinosaur garden with the carts and Jeep were also great for a short walk with fun photo opps. It's definitely a great place to bring the kids!

### 🦖 **Thoroughly Enjoyable & Educational: A Must-Visit for Dino Enthusiasts!** **Rating:** ★★★★☆ (4.5/5) As a family of four (with kids aged 3and 6), we spent a fantastic afternoon at the **National Dinosaur Museum** in Canberra. Here’s why it exceeded our expectations: #### 🌿 **Highlights:** 1. **Immersive Exhibits**: - **Life-Sized Dinosaurs**: The outdoor **Dinosaur Garden** (free to access!) features towering T. rex models and photo ops that thrilled the kids . - **Animatronics & Fossils**: Indoors, 12+ animatronic dinosaurs (blinking, roaring!) and 300+ fossils—including rare skeletons—brought prehistory to life. The 20m T. rex was a showstopper! . - **Chronological Journey**: The exhibits smartly trace evolution from ancient marine life to ice-age mammals, with clear info panels . 2. **Kid-Friendly Activities**: - **Scavenger Hunts**: Age-specific trails kept our kids engaged. Completing them earned a certificate with a *real tiny fossil*—a brilliant touch! . - **Interactive Zones**: Downstairs, they loved the fossil puzzles, coloring stations, and climbing into dinosaur eggs . 3. **Educational Value**: - Staff were **passionate and knowledgeable**—especially during our chat about whale evolution! . - The **gift shop** dazzled with geodes, minerals, and affordable dino toys (we took home a volcanic rock!) . 4. **Practical Perks**: - **Affordable**: Family ticket ($55 for 2 adults + 2 kids) felt fair for 2+ hours of fun . - **Accessibility**: Wheelchair-friendly paths, lifts, and sensory considerations (e.g., quiet areas) . - **Free Parking**: Plentiful spots outside . #### ⚠️ **Minor Drawbacks:** - **Size**: Compact—ideal for 1.5–2 hours, but larger museums might offer more . - **Animatronics**: Young kids (under 5) might find the moving/sounding dinosaurs scary . - **Facilities**: No on-site café—pack snacks! Some exhibits needed minor repairs . #### 💎 **Final Verdict:** > *"Far better than expected!"* as one reviewer said . Perfect for **families**, **school groups**, or anyone curious about Earth’s ancient past. Well worth a visit. Allocate 1.5 to 3 hours to get the most from it. Plenty to see and learn from. Huge selection of fossils and gemstones in the giftshop. Highly recommend. Good for kids and adults
