Great little museum telling/showing the history of the area. Lot of money put to it, well done. It's worth checking out. Camping next door and Coo-ee museum/info centre next to that. There's plenty to see.
Cherie C — Google review
Lots to see and remember. Easy spend half an hour. $5 entry. Good toilets too
Mark P — Google review
If you enjoy history and machinery, a must visit in Gilgandra for a very affordable $5 entry fee (kids get in free!). A great collection and well cared for, with labels and information for almost everything. We spent about an hour wandering through which was plenty for me, but you could spend hours there if you wanted to! It was great way to bring back some old memories.

Really good little Museum well worth a visit
Mark H — Google review
Nice little stop with lots of historical artifacts. Some more interpretation and explanation of the items would make this even better.

Huge collection of historical items. Took me longer than expected. The main exhibit could use some better lighting though.

Lovely place to visit in Gilgandra. The ladies at the information centre were very helpful, and the coffee from the cafe was good. We obtained a council permit from the information centre to stay at the RVF site located at the Gilgandra Cultural Precinct. The sites are large and well grassed. A walk around looking at the art and history displays of the Macquarie Marsh and early explores was incredibly informative and educational.

Great free camping for self-contained caravans. Flat large sites. Obtain permit from Visitors Centre. Interesting exhibits in the Visitors Centre. Very helpful staff.

Up there with the best Tourist Information centres in Australia. Great, prompt and valuable customer service and knowledge. The historical displays were well labelled and told the story of the "Cooee March", an important part of this locale's contribution to World War 1. The indigenous and town stories were also displayed in easy format. Gift shop on site. Amenities are clean and well maintained. Off road parking is plentiful for vehicles and caravans. Mobility parking available.
Tim K — Google review
Took advantage of the free overnight stay. 10 spots available, register online. A good spot, lots of 4g. Not busy. Convenient location on main street.
Natasha F — Google review
Stopped here for a quick break on the long drive north and were glad we did. Such a great information centre with an Indigenous history exhibit and installation on the Cooee March from Gilgandra, which we weren't aware of. Clean amenities and a lovely deck with cafe make this a perfect rest stop or spend a bit longer to take in all the information about this historical town.
Lando G — Google review
Have not called in for a while. Amazing fixed displays especially the co..eee March. Also I loved the fossil exhibit. Went out back to the little coffee shop. The young lady was delightful Also the front desk inquiry officer was busy answering questions. Beautiful clean toilets. The ladies loo had a stunning photograph on the wall. Breathtaking

Great place to stop for lunch, cafe available. Toilets are nice and easy parking. Nice small gallery and a museum about the march and local people.

A day we will always remember! My husband and I drove 8 hours from Brisbane to have a tour and tasting of the incredible black gate whiskey and it did NOT disappoint! Genise and Brian were welcoming, friendly and taught us so much! We loved that the dogs were made so welcome too and the whiskey tasting was extremely generous! Thank you for an amazing day!!
Phoebe R — Google review
Excellent camping, facilities available (shower/ toilets) and they are clean!!! Genise is extremely helpful and responsive to questions. Tour of distillery was informative and impressive for its size. Merchandise can also be purchased to help promote the distillery!!! We will definitely be back for another trip to the lovely black gate distillery!!! Highly recommended!!!
Narelle W — Google review
A must stop especially if you are a whisky or rum drinker. Brian was a captivating host for our amazing tasting, unfortunately we missed his wife, but now we have an excuse to come back!
Melita M — Google review
A must do experience in the Central West! Great distillery with some lovely whiskies and rum. The tasting lets you try everything they do, and all of it’s delicious. Book ahead so you don’t miss out
Daniel G — Google review
We tried five of their whiskeys and their dark rum, and they were all very smooth and full of flavour. Genise was a fantastic host, very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
Kate B — Google review
I cannot recommend Black Gate Distillery enough. Genise and Brian are incredibly welcoming and know so much about Whisky and Rum. Be sure to do a tasting. It is honestly so worth it. There’s nowhere else in the world you will get an experience quite like Black Gate Distillery
Lachlan G — Google review
Well worth the stop! We decided to stay in Mendooran after the zoo en route to the Warrumbungles, and so glad we did! We stayed in the cosy Airbnb and booked in for a tasting at this little gem. They make an excellent array of whiskey and rum to boot! Probably the most personal and authentic tasting I’ve done. You can tell they love what they do. Just make sure to book!
Michelle B — Google review
Wonderful experience! Genise was a very welcoming and informative host. Their products are first class, an exactly what you should expect from a micro distillery. Smooth and perfectly balanced body and flavour. These guys love what they do and it shows. Well worth the drive out from Dubbo

Siding Spring Observatory, located near Coonabarabran, NSW, is a renowned astronomical research facility and Australia's leading optical and infrared observatory. The site boasts a collection of large research telescopes and offers tours, an exploratory center, visitor gallery, gift shop, and a cafe for visitors to enjoy. The observatory conducts diverse research activities such as exploring the cosmos for 'Dark Energy' and searching for planets within the Milky Way.
Spent a few days in Coonabarabran / Warrumbungle and visited this place 3 times. Highly recommend the day tours. Lunch / coffee was simple but great. The visitor Gallery was a trove of information as are the very friendly staff.
Albert H — Google review
Great place to stop by on your way to Warrumbungles. Before you go up the observatory, visit the museum in the visitor centre to experience some interesting interactive exhibitions. Lots of telescopes and equipments in the observatory, would be good for someone interested in astronomy. There is also a viewing deck that provides a glimpse of the landscapes ahead.
Lerong L — Google review
What a great tour we were lucky enough to be there when they were doing tests and could see the telescope being orientated. You can’t appreciate how big it is and the view from outside at the top is just breathtaking. The tour guide did a brilliant job of explaining the importance of the telescope, how it works and all the fun facts on the universe was so fun and informative. The passion he brings to the tour makes it that much more enjoyable.
Mel C — Google review
Feel like I've had a once in a lifetime experience at the stargazing capitol of Australia. These amazing telescopes set amongst the warrumbungles is surreal and quite magical. Siding springs has an open day once a year where you can get a sausage sizzle, view a few of the amazing telescopes, go inside the planetarium, listen to talks, have ice cream and visit the museum. So interactive, great for kids and fascinating details about planets, our solar system, galaxies, the sun...it's great. You can see how much you'd weigh on mars, and see how heavy a litre of milk is on Saturn. Loved the whole day.
Kristy S — Google review
Went here on a road trip. A little out of the way but definitely worth visiting. There's an interpretive centre, lots of telescope including the big one. You can go inside and up to the fourth floor and observe the telescope. Excellent views of the surrounding landscape - particularly the Warrumbungle Ranges.
Paul H — Google review
We recently did the all day tour at Siding Spring Observatory with our two little boys, and it was one of the best tours we’ve ever done. Our guide Branioc was excellent. He was very entertaining, personable, and extremely knowledgeable about the observatory and its workings, as well as the wildlife and history of the area, and even made our coffee and lunch back at the cafe! The views of the Warrumbungles from the exterior catwalk are spectacular, and it was fantastic getting to see the telescopes, and learning more about the field of astronomy. The exploratory was also informative and very well presented. We highly recommend doing a tour - it was a highlight of our holidays. Thank you again to Branioc for making the tour such a wonderful thought-provoking experience!
Kannika P — Google review
Great place to visit. The visitor museum place is great has lots of information for the people interested in Astrology. Interactive displays.

Observatories & Planetariums
Warrumbungle Observatory in Coonabarabran offers a unique stargazing experience with up to 5 telescopes for observing planets, stars, comets, nebulae, and galaxies. Visitors start with an astronomy presentation before being guided through the night sky to view various celestial bodies and formations. The observatory provides an opportunity to witness Saturn with its rings, a galaxy teeming with new stars, a dead star, the Milky Way Galaxy, and potentially the next Super Nova.
Very good very interesting our evening was captivating and we learned many facts. It is not the easiest place to find in the dark but it does have good instructions on the web site. We were very lucky as we were the only 2 there so we did not have to wait to see or take turns. That could remove some of the fun if you had to wait for 9 other people to look each time through the telescope as he said he usually has up to 10 people at a time. Maybe check how many are going before you book to commit. It also was a very dusty night so we couldn't see everything so check weather before you go. Kangaroos along that road are also in the 100s so be aware and give yourself time to get there so you don't have a catastrophe with one.
Charleyne M — Google review
We saw Saturn with its rings, a galaxy that has one million new stars, along with a dead star and the Milkyway Galaxy, the next Super Nova which could happen any time, amongst many other incredible sights of the night sky while stargazing at Warrumbungle Observatory..
Michael M — Google review
It was a great experience, if you are in the area you will miss a big thing if you don’t visit Warrumbungle Observatory. Josh was great, very helpful and friendly, thanks heaps Josh. Also, bring your SLR Camera and before hand learn how to detach the lens, and change the ISO and Shutter speed setting to take great photos with the telescope. Shutter speed: 30” ISO: 3200
Aydin Z — Google review
Staff did a good job even on a moon lit night. Would recommend new moon time though. Nice selection of telescopes. Explanations and guidance was for people who don't have much experience with telescopes. For someone who has their own telescope and has done a bit of astronomy you won't get much out of it as the staff keep explanations to a level that everyone can understand. Well worth it though if you are passing through Coonabarabran.
Nathan C — Google review
Great experience for star gazing. Lots of telescopes so not competing for your turn. You can attach your camera to their big telescope and get pics like below.

A must place to visit if you travel to Warrummbungles national parks. Good guide by friendly staff.

Awesome place. Thanks for letting me to take a photo of Lagoon Nebula with my old D60. For people visiting, bring some warm clothes as it gets very cold at night.

Great roadside stop. We slept the night cause I couldn't drive anymore. Bbqs worked, great shelter over 2 bbqs with bench seats and tables each side, a mother's room, and toilets for both genders. BUT... NO WATER, SO THE TOILETS WEREN'T FLUSHING. Couldn't use taps either. Thankfully I carry my own water jerry full of water, but alas, I'd done my number 2 before I knew about the no flush. I'm sure it's clean and fixed by now, I checked other toilets after that, and none flushed. I'm sure it's fixed by now, cause they are very well maintained, clean, no rubbish. We were there the night of 14th,morning til lunch of 15th. Plenty of space. A great stop other than the lack of water side of it for loos. I will definitely stop here again.😊
Rebeckah O — Google review
Pretty spot for a loo! Clean, has paper, smells lovely. Water in sink in Mother's Room, Bbq area, plenty of parking. Historical interest "beyond the black stump" and native birds. Bins! 4G 4 bars! Some scrag proceeded to smoke a cigarette on the loo leaving it ashy and stinking. You suck! I picked up the other rubbish and binned it.
Lisa I — Google review
Great rest stop. A little further down the road is Coolah where you'll find the Black Stump Hotel. Lovely town with a great local art and crafts gallery called Pandoras.
Karen W — Google review
Good place to stop for a break, the bathrooms were clean but average for a roadside rest facility
Dave — Google review
Great history here Good toilet stop with picnic tables and BBQS
Debz T — Google review
Toilets were very clean. The History of the Black Stump is displayed on a sign and replacement stump displayed as the original was lost in a fire. There is a BBQ and picnic tables with nice views. We visited there on our return trip on holidays and now we can tell our friends we wend "Beyond the Black Stump".

Love dropping into visitors info centres on arrival in a new town. This one has the bonus of a great small museum showcasing mega fauna fossil (well worth seeing) and some great astro photography. It also has a small cabinet of local Aboriginal artefacts. As usual, very helpful and knowledgeable staff and a great collection of info brochures

Excellent stop for travellers and nature lovers! The Coonabarabran Visitor Information Centre is a wonderful place to stop — full of great information about local attractions, walks, and the nearby Warrumbungle National Park. The displays are amazing, especially the dinosaur exhibit, which both kids and adults will love! There’s also a lovely section featuring local produce and crafts, perfect for gifts or treats from the region. And don’t miss picking up the free booklet “Bird Routes of Baradine and Pilliga” — a real treasure for birdwatchers and anyone who enjoys exploring nature. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable — a genuine credit to this beautiful area. Highly recommended! 🌻

Another thing on the bucket list ticked off to stay in the Shamrock. It was affordable in the heart of historic Bendigo. Room very Comfy with an annex two lounge chairs, large TV good ensuite. Dinner in the down stairs bar excellent, (even pensioner neals) if you love old this is the place and there's a lift.

My husband and I have just discovered that information centres are excellent for stopping at charge EV. Recently we road tripped from a orange to nightcap ridge to get married and we stopped at quite a few Info centres. Coonabarabran was our favourite as the lady on that day was fascinating to talk to. They have an amazing museum of mega fauna fossils that were discovered in the early 1980’s and they had excellent photography exhibits from kids taking photos of space. Our only disappointment was we couldn’t buy any of the photos. Truly a wonderful pit stop filled with great service, information and interesting facts. We’ve enjoyed sending pics of the fossils to our nephews and talking to friends about our new Knowledge.

Crystal Kingdom, located in Coonabarabran, Australia, is home to the impressive "Minerals and Fossils from the Warrumbungle Ranges" collection. It proudly showcases rare zeolite crystals and a vast crystal cave alongside local fossils. The Crystal Shop offers a wide array of gemstones including opals, sapphires, amber, topaz, garnet, and amethyst.
The new owner greet us as we walked in and we had a nice chat with her before we left. Crystal kingdom is a must to visit when you’re at Coonabarabran. Interesting collections with nice new setting with some dinosaurs that will attract children. Don’t forget to check the roses at the front garden, we were lucky by the time we were there, they were blooming. Very beautiful!

I really enjoyed the Crystal Kingdom... With a lovely shop full of beautiful crystals and rocks..and the fantastic museum of rocks thru the ages, you'd be best to allocate an hour to view everything. The lovely ladies provided a walker free to use, and they also have a dog pram and wheelchair for free use. 🚻♿ 🚻🅿️ ♿entrance. Entry is free but please give a donation.

I had a wonderful time at Crystal Kingdom. The owner was friendly and invaluable. The museum's crystal room was terrific and mind-blowing. The artwork on the walls only enhanced the atmosphere. It is a must-see place indeed. You can buy a variety of different crystals for yourself or to gift to your loved ones.

Stopped here on part of a long road trip. Loved it. Friendly informative staff. Ny son loves rocks and crytals and this was perfect for him. Beautiful gift shop where we purchased a few bits on the way out. Even toys available for our youngest to play

I think this might be the best thing in the town! Highly reccomend if you're going through. Interesting geology display / museum out the back and a massive selection of crystals. I needed to get a particular number of quartz points for geopathic balancing work (about a month after visiting), rang about four closer places, and finally rang this place. Ang was extremely helpful, contacted her supplier to source them and I had them a few days later! Much appreciated. This place lifts the vibration of the town ☺️ - you can just tell. Cheers ladies, good to meet you.

This is an amazingly set out and informative centre. It has something for everyone: artistic depiction of changes over time; minerals; crystals, fossils; jewelry ( gorgeous earrings) and life size dinosaurs for the kids. A must to visit. It has only had three owners over 50 years and the current owners are well informed and lovely people. Ps I purchased some earrings of course. And remember a small donation is requested so take some cash with u, so worth supporting these museums and collections.

Fantastic place to stay. We camped for four nights. Enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the cafe, warm hospitality, bush walks each day and time for pottery too. The dog has a great time and really enjoyed the walks with us and the dog run space to play off lead. Hope we can be back soon.

Beautiful pottery, didn’t have time to stay for a free session on the pottery wheel. Cafe offers breakfast, lunch and pizzas in the afternoon. Can say the coffee and breakfast was delicious. We arrived just as cafe was closing, but happy to serve us coffee regardless. Cafe h had a great feel, indoors and outdoor rustic handmade timber table and seating. We were on the caravan, was a bit quiet, very neat campground, well maintained. Bathroom facilities excellent. Disappointed we were told we can go and look for firewood for an open fire, when in fact it had all been well and truly collected and burnt . Would rather be told, best to buy wood. The road in and out very corrugated, which was out of the farms control. Taking it slow was the only solution. It was described as a Farmstay, but didn’t really have that feel. Don’t expect to see any stock or produce. So pleased we visited and supported this eclectic venture.

This was my second visit to Pilliga Pottery, and this time I stayed in the charming Poet’s Cottage. It was the perfect peaceful escape, giving me a chance to centre some clay and centre myself. I had a couple of wheel lessons with Joel, whose calm guidance and invaluable tips have given me plenty to work on before my next (imminent!) visit. A truly special place that keeps calling me back.

Beautiful location and a place to stay with a difference. In the middle of the pilliga forest, this little farm is a lovely retreat. The surrounds of the buildings are beautifully decorated with artistic pieces amongst the gardens and the accommodation, while not luxurious was super comfortable with good heating. They strive for ecological sustainability, so the chickens eat your food scarps, the air conditioner is run from solar and they try to reduce their use of plastics. Lovely walks and the pottery shop looked like a great place to learn the art. Served by a nice little cafe.

Camped for 2 nights (Kelly campground) - beautiful space, so many incredible walks you could do (and please do! It’s a beautiful part of the world). Beautiful ceramic pieces available to purchase, or you can do a pottery class - I didn’t do a class but a few people in my group did and they loved it. Pilliga Pottery is such a unique and delightful find! Nestled in the beautiful Australian bush, the café is warm, welcoming, and full of character. The food was surprisingly great – fresh, tasty, and with a lovely variety of options (plus great coffee!). The highlight was definitely the class. It was such a fun, hands-on experience. Whether you're a total beginner or have some experience, the staff make it easy and enjoyable to create something of your own. The instructors are friendly, patient, and passionate about what they do. There’s something really special about the relaxed vibe, the creative energy, and the stunning natural setting. Great for families, couples, or solo travelers looking for something a little different. Highly recommend stopping in – even if it's just for a coffee and a look around the gallery!

Pilliga pottery is a quite hidden little village landscape that feels 1,000,000 miles from everywhere. With its quaint old world cafe shops and housing it’s something worth checking out… it almost has an Amish old world quality to it I highly recommend this place to visit.

Second visit to Pilliga Pottery. A perfect place to visit. From great meals under the stars, beautiful walks, native flora and fauna, and of course getting creative doing some pottery. The rooms are comfortable too.

If you have a 4wd setup for touring tracks you will enjoy this national park. Would also recommend checking out the fire tower located within the park. Provides some amazing views of the area. I will have to head back and explore more of the tracks in this area. P.S. Luckily didn't have an encounter with a Yowie during my visit. If you don't know what a Yowie is..... read up on it before heading to the area. There are several reports of them being seen around this park area.

OK realistically this will only be of interest to... people who are interested in space and/or radio telescopes. The visitor centre has a number of large posters explaining what the telescope does and how it does it, as well a few actual bits of equipment. There's also a video room which I missed.
Eugene K — Google review
A fantastic spot if you’re interested in radio signal research of our solar system. No movie, no personal contact just great looking dishes on rails. Plaques with info and a few pictures with descriptions of construction.

Entrance to the right if you were coming from Narrabri city centre. Gates close at exact 5pm every day. Strictly no wireless connection allowed. Wifi and bluetooth should be turned off.
Tamer A — Google review
Great site to visit. The dishes are amazing to see. The visitors centre was unmanned so no opportunity to ask questions etc, but it is advertised as a self guided tour. A working satellite dish out the front that visitors can move and direct. Toilets available too.?

A free educational experience when visiting Narrabri. 15 minutes away from A39 Newell Highway when entering Narrabri. It's an astronomy observatory so phones must be on airplane mode with wifi and bluetooth turned off. Great for adults and teens who are keen of radio astronomy. It has an interactive display outside, a whispering dish which was really cool, a number of displays, an up close view of the compact array, and a visitor centre that has great information and audiovisual room. They also sell $1 postcards. Has clean toilets and a well kept surrounding. There are Wallabies near the entrance when we visited, they must be everywhere as the land was vast.

What an amazing stay we had! Can definitely recommend, Rick was such a great genuine host, had a tour of the fish farm. The donkey shower was great, a wonderful fire with the wood supplied, lovely relaxing stop over, will definitely be back one day! 12mnths to the day.

We had the whole place to ourselves. Stayed for one night as we were passing through. The rustic showers are gorgeous 😍 Met Ricko on our way out and what a lovely guy! Thanks Ricko, we'll be back for the yabbies when they're ready 👍

Dropped in here and loved it. Rick takes you on a walk through his facility which breeds and sells yabbies, Murray Cod, yellow belly, silver perch, and eel tail catfish. Camping and fishing can be organised.

We had a great time camping at the fish farm just minutes out of Narrabri. Ricko really looks after his guests and is a larger than life character. We joined a tour of the aquaculture there followed by an delicious outdoor cooked and catered fish dinner. Family run and the kids help. Absolute must visit.

If you want a break from the busy world then this is the place to go It’s very rustic but not rough Ricko and Charlie were an awesome host We learnt a lot about fish and yabbies also how to slow down and enjoy the time away Well done Ricko Also I got a Murray cod called NOT MURRY as a memory High recommended getting a little piece from there too We will be back

Friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to find out very specific local and regional information for us. Up to date information from personal experience on local road conditions. Excellent display on the region, and especially informative on cotton. My very reluctant to read 12 year old thoroughly enjoyed the experience and displays and the clever design sparked her curiosity to read and learn. Amenities were modern and clean. Ample parking in the shade. Very interesting things to buy as well.

Thank you to the ladies that helped us, we had a great time. We are now planning a trip to this area, instead of stopping as we pass through on our way to somewhere else. Narrabri Shire Visitor's Information Centre is located in modern purpose built building Coach and caravan parking is available in a spacious drive through area behind the building and adjacent to a lovely park with shade and BBQ facilities. The friendly volunteers assisted us with information on so many activities in the region plus information on many other towns we were curious about visiting or might like to see on our travels. We got a lot of very useful information to help us. The visitor information centre has all the usual maps, information about local events and tourist attractions, as well as local craft and historic photos on display. However, located in the same complex is a huge cotton harvester (amazing to see close up). There is a very comfortable lounge to sit in the cool and read the information provided or watch a short film about the area . There are several other very interesting informative and well presented displays about industry and tourist activites in the Narrabri Shire, so we actually spent well over an hour looking around the free displays. The toilet facilities in this complex are very good and appear to be well maintained.

An incredibly moving, spiritual, and important experience. The informative signs throughout the walk, and in the native plant garden we’re beautiful. It was disgraceful that one of the signs has been vandalized, and I hope this is rectified soon. This is truly a must for anyone traveling through the area, as a reminder of the past, the present & the future. Amenities are well-maintained.

One of the most infamous known massacres makes it a very sobering experience. Well sign posted, an amenities block, shade houses and plenty of parking demonstrates the sort of iconic place is has in AU history. I like especially the focus on the shared history and both aboriginal and Australians working together to.maintain the site. Well worth a visit if you are in the area but a long way to go for a look see.
Paul R — Google review
Well maintained, good amenities, plenty of seating. The walk was very interesting to learn of our past history. We had our morning tea there it was very peaceful and time for thoughts. Wheelchair accessible, slight slope on trail.
Kim A — Google review
This site is significant for all the wrong reasons. The memorial and interpretation trail provide ample time for reflection on past atrocities. The fact that this case led to the first charges and execution of the perpetrators, is important in the history of European and Indigenous relations in Australia.

It's great to see that they have created this sight in memory of a tragic event in our history that should never of happened. It is worth a visit and to do the walk there. May they all rest in peace.

What a wonderful surprise!!! We just turned the corner to have a look at whatever could be a Cranky Rock and after a couple of minutes drive and a 2 minute walk we came across the amazing water hole. This is a great place. It must’ve been fantastic when it was first built many years ago. I believe it even had a zoo there now you can still walk down to the rock. I have caravan and camping spots there. There’s lots of birdlife and other wildlife to see on the way in and out This toilets on site picnic tables. You would need to have medium fitness to make it to the top of the rock to the lookout and low fitness to make it down to the water there is no wheelchair access down to the water.
Ozzie O — Google review
Great spot for a couple of days with an easy walk to a lookout above the gorge. Water was muddy when we were there due to recent rain but according to the caretaker it clears up and the locals frequently swim there. You can book ahead with the caretaker but he told it doesn’t get very busy. Only $15 per night with an honestly box by the office. Friendly and interesting with some beautiful chooks to feed and admire.

Cranky Rock Reserve Camping area adjoins the public day use area to access the reserve. This is a small camping ground with a few powered sites plus non powered sites. A couple of toilets and a shower are available. No pottable water on site so make sure you carry enough. The friendly caretaker lights a fire pit for happy hour every night. The walk to Cranky Rock pool and lookout is short and reasonably easy. The weathered granite formations are interesting and colourful, with the odd boulder precariously sitting on top of rock formations. The view from the lookout is pleasant, as were the walks around the bushland. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here and well worth the short diversion from Warialda to camp.

Lovely campground with powered and unpowered sites, friendly staff, and beautiful natural surroundings (see photos). Facilities include free gas BBQs and covered picnic tables, flush toilets, just one hot shower so may have to wait your turn or share with family members, and raised contained fireplaces are allowed. We enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day lunch out at The Shed Cafe @ Goat Rock Camping Ground. Food was homemade and delicious, and staff are friendly. Bring your hiking shoes and explore mother nature and all her kids (goats). The drop toilets took me back to the old shearing shed outhouse when I was growing up. I recommend this for a weekend away in the real Australian bush.

Very much off-grid camping but the amenities are there. No hot or running water in the showers, there was a canvas shower there but was a bit dirty, I opted for my own bucket and sponge. The dirt road access was well maintained before the rain (March 2021)

Texas Rabbit Works

Museum
Specialty Museums
Greeted by the lovely volunteers who told us to follow the rabbit footprints around the premises so that we do not miss anything. It is well maintained, great to read, listen and see the history and life of rabbits in the area. Learnt how the Akubra Hat is made, a very hands on process to create a excellent hat. Love the building and the collections of what life was like. Worth the visit.
Mary C — Google review
Amazing historical place, that you should visit. We saw the authentic tools and items from the time when rabbits were everywhere. Amazing freezer rooms and rabbits processing factory.
A T — Google review
Well worth the visit. You would be best to have a few hours, to read all the information and watch the informative videos provided. On the self guided tour with map included. Ppl that have never grown up chasing rabbits as a kid should definitely go. This little operation supported a town, processing 6000 rabbits a day at times.
Jason C — Google review
What an interesting and wonderful place to visit. There was so much to see and learn, we were there for 2 hours but we could have easily spent all day there. At the back of the Rabbit Works is the old Butter Factory, which is now a historical museum for all things from the 'old fashioned' days donated from Roger Wilson and his family. From old typewriters, calculators, lawn mowers and fridges, movie making equipment, tools, old biscuit/money tins, dunny's, beer bottle collection, bikes, chainsaws and a turn dial TV. It was great to show the kids how the old-fashioned people used to live. The Rabbit Works Museum is shaped like a rabbit warren inside, so much to see and listen to in each room. The tour guides were born and bred Texans who either worked at the Rabbit Works when it was in operation or worked in the town. Lucia, who is 86 years old, was our tour guide for the day. She was so proud of her town and its history and told us about her hubby Don (91 years old), who is an original Rabbit Works worker and the local country singer star. Make sure, on your way out, buy a souvenir. This helps support the works, tour guides, and Texas Queensland. We will be back next time we are in town to see where Lucia worked at the Texas Heritage Centre & Tobacco Museum, which is only open by appointment.
Kazz A — Google review
Wow. Australians turning a problem into a way to support their families when things were tough. $10 well spent for 2.5 hours entertainment and education Great museum area and directions through the old factory and fridges including videos. One of the volunteers used to work at the factory when he was a young lad (now 90) and pointed out his photo on the wall and himself in one of the videos. So interesting chatting with him Kid friendly activities included so they can find answers to questions along the way following the rabbit stickers on the ground

Glenlyon Dam Tourist Park

Park
Nature & Parks
The first visit to Glenlyon Dam showcases a delightful lunch from the kiosk, followed by a drive down to the water level. Although currently at only 4% capacity, it is reported that ten Murray Cod were caught on the day. This makes it an ideal location for picnics, camping, caravanning, fishing or simply exploring. Witnessing the dam at full capacity would undoubtedly be a magnificent sight worth experiencing firsthand.
The park is really nice and Debbie that runs it is very knowledgeable and accommadating. Hot showers and great Cafe. Easy access to the boat ramp and lots of tree coverage. We enjoyed our stay.

A surprising clean and friendly, welcoming park. Plenty of options park wise (two swings, three slides) plus gym equipment. The toilet blocks are clean and well lit. Plenty of shade and also benches to let the kids stretch their legs between breaks. The Lions club does the Driver Reviver program during holiday season. Stop in and have a chat, they appreciate it. Oh and walked along the river and see the thousands of bats 🦇

The Inglewood Apex Lions Park is a huge park at the outskirts of town next to the bridge. It has. A driver reviver block that usually opens during school holidays to help travellers. It has a green grassy park with a covered playground with slides, swings, see saws, monkey bars and climbing fort. There are also exercise equipment available at the back part of the park next to a drinking fountain. The park has several covered seating areas, a BBQ station.and a water faucet next to the driver reviver block. There is also a toilet block available for men, women and disabled with a parent's room. It is Wheelchair friendly. There is a paid water station next to the park, $3.50 for 1000Ltrs. The park is next to the river and if you walk the trail next to it you would catch a sight of a tree of bats nesting nearby. There are also quite a few mozzies so arm yourself with a spray or just do an the slap the mozzie dance. There are several trees that give shade and also a skate in park right next to the playground.

Absolutely beautiful wine tasting experience and lunch platter. Food was delicious. Ambience is gorgeous. This is the oldest winery in the region, 5 generations, the sisters were so friendly and made the experience wonderful. Highly recommend!

Fantastic wine tasting with a very knowledgeable host who walked us through many of the rarer 'Strange Bird' varieties unique to the Region. Beautiful selection of whites and reds - my friends bought 4 bottles to go!

Ballandean Estate Wines is Queensland’s oldest family-owned winery! We visited for wine tasting and it was very good, their wines are top notch 🍷and the young guy did an excellent wine tasting presentation. The sparkling and Saperavi were some of my favourites. There is so many cool things to do and see in the Granite Belt region and this Winery should be on your list. We look forward to returning 😁

Thank you Lizzy for your great customer service. Your knowledge on the wines we tasted was fantastic. The platter you made up for us was just amazing. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic wine-tasting experience. We showed up without an appointment and they were quite busy. Nevertheless, their customer service was impeccable. We tried quite a few wines we hadn’t heard of before (strange birds) and bought quite a bit. Amazing how much good service makes a difference.

Lovely wine tasting experience. Very popular winery. Staff member was friendly and knowledgeable but busy trying to manage 3 wine tasting groups at the same time. Grazing platter options available. Toilets on site and parking available.

Came here for the wine toasting and charcuterie board (pre-ordering is recommended). Was not disappointed and could absolutely not fault a single thing on the board. As we came in midweek it was quiet so the ladies were more than happy to have a chat and let us know which different brands of salami, Prosecco, condiments and cheeses were on the board. We had our own choice of four wine tastings, and I actually bought all 4 bottles. Could not fault the wines. The decor was awesome with wine barrels and cosy seating. Fabulous experience and well worth the money because the quality was exceptional.

Fantastic winery with lots on offer. Great range of reds, whites, tawny port and liqueur muscat. First winery in the Stanthorpe area - family owned (5th generation). Well worth a visit for tasting.

I searched for a wine tasting experience and chose Tobin Wines based on the positive comments regarding their high-quality wine. Although Adrian Tobin was not present at the cellar door, I was served by his friendly and professional staff. They explained the meticulous production process that contributes to their exceptional wine. I had the opportunity to taste three red and three white wines, and particularly enjoyed one of their white wines, which I purchased.
We visited Tobin Wines today as one stop on a wine tasting tour. It was memorable, made so by the consistently-high quality of all the wines tasted, and by the knowledgeable, personable, often-humorous presentation by Ian as he guided our tour group through the tasting. Numerous wines on the tasting list were worthy of purchase, and as a result, we struggled to find wines that could compete at subsequent wineries, or presentations as engaging, no matter how professional the presenters. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Excellent range of wines, try the 2025 Maisie Verdelho or the 2023 Max Block One Shiraz. Tastings are welcome, and the servings are generous. Plenty of off street parking. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful.

We spent some time at this winery today doing a tasting. Marley was amazing and very patient! He entertained and informed and managed to wrangle seven of us. His knowledge of the wines was thorough and the wines themselves were delicious. Highly recommend stopping in here and stocking up. Thanks Marley!
Lauren G — Google review
Marley was our host for a superb wine tasting experience. Truly engaging, knowledgeable and passionate about showcasing Tobin’s exceptional wines. There were many standouts but the Block Shiraz and Chardonnay were tremendous. Tobin’s focus on perfecting their terroir shines in their wines and stand as a tribute to Alex (Mr Tobin) whose ethos for producing wine with restrained wine maker influence is both commendable and justifiable. A must visit for anyone who appreciates great wines and a commitment to the art of wine making.

Our second visit to Tobin Wines over the years did not disappoint! The service, explanations of the wines and their personalities and roots was exceptional yet again. The tasting out of this world. A big shout out to Marley who we recommend gets whatever promotion or awards are available, and if not, invent one. He's gold.

I’ve visited Tobin many times and it never disappoints. What I love the most is the variety & ability to taste side by side; especially with the same varietals from different blocks. Shout out to Brandy who was personable, professional & offered exceptional hospitality. In my opinion the best wines on the granite belt ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Michelle W — Google review
What a great experience all round! Marley was a great host with immense knowledge on the wine as well as the Tobin family history. A really engaging and enjoyable experience, oh not to mention the top wines of our trip. We ended up with a Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc (Which both my partner and I have never really been fans of the style, but really enjoyed) as well as a couple other bottles to go. Keep doing what you’re doing team Tobin, and we will see you next time for sure! Thanks!

The hospitality at Pyramids Road Wines is top-notch, with Warren taking the time to explain his meticulous wine-making process.
WOW!! WOW!! WOW!! Stopped there on the way back from the pyramid and we were AMAZED. Warren & seu welcomed us with open hearts and hands. We tasted all of their wines, had a great conversation and winery tour with Warren. 10/10 for taste, knowledge and hospitality.

Phenomenal wine tasting experience. It’s set back from the main road and you’ll be greeted by several wild kangaroos… and they are adorable! Warren is really knowledgable and makes really delicious wine. We ended up buying far more than we originally intended! Thanks again and hopefully see you soon

I loved the wines and the experience here. Simple vineyard, but the main wine maker was exceptional. My eldest was their first real taste of a variety of quality wines. The winemaker took extra time to understand the taste but also to explain the reactions. Great selection of grape varieties all done well. Highly recommend a visit and see for yourself.
Paul F — Google review
A visit here is a great winery experience. This family-run winery produces quality, small batch, sometimes limited edition, still red, white and rose wines that range from drink now to loner term cellaring. The tastings are personal and knowledgeable and offer a hospitable time. Highly recommended.

Really lovely wines and wonderful tasting experience. Really friendly gentlemen who chatted with us during our toasting and we're so nice and recommended other places for us to go to. We did leave with a few bottles of course lol.
Rom S — Google review
Highly recommended. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable and they were willing to to take the time chat. We learnt a lot about local wines and enjoyed the pressure-free wine tasting. Warm & welcoming- definitely visit, no booking required. All The wines were nice, but the aged Chardonnay was exceptional.

Popped into Pyramid Road Wines the other morning whilst exploring Stanthorpe. Were greeted by the lovely couple and then went in to try the wines that are currently available. All wines were great. Whilst there we learnt a bit about the Strange bird wines story and were also recommended to head further up road to check out Girraween National Park. All round was a lovely experience. Also bought some of the artwork they had on display with the other crafts there.

We stopped in at Pyramid Road Wines and couldn’t have asked for a better welcome to Ballandean. Sue and Warren were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate — they not only shared their beautiful wines with us but also helped set us up for the rest of our wine tour weekend with local tips and insights.

Casley Mount Hutton Winery is a must-visit establishment with a friendly and knowledgeable owner, Grant, who ensures guests feel welcomed. The wine selection is excellent, offering a wide variety that caters to all preferences. The cellar door provides a charming ambiance, complete with wine barrels and processing tanks. From there, one can enjoy breathtaking views of the vineyards while indulging in wine tasting.
An amazing winery and overall experience. My partner and I visited Casley Mount Hutton Winery on a recent wine tour and these guys were by far the best! Their vertical wine tasting, of the same type of wine, but from different years was a fantastic learning curve for a wine tasting novice. Not only did they have an incredible selection of wines for tasting, their ‘behind the cellar door’ experience with a quick tour of their laboratory allowed customers to get a much better understanding of how their wine is made. A special mention must be given to the wonderful host who let my partner and I label a bottle of Shiraz each. We have committed to leaving these for 10/20 years, allowing us to remember the amazing experience we had at Casley Mount Hutton Winery.

Absolutely wonderful. Great atmosphere, great stories but even better great wine. Got the vintage Chardonnay even though I'm not a white wine person! So happy and can't wait to come back!

Sonya is such a wonderful host and made us feel so welcome . The lab tour and how they harvest and started the place is so interesting and personal . The wine is beautiful and we went home with a dozen

It is a must-see winery! Friendly and knowledgeable owner Grant let us feel very welcome. The wine is excellent and the variety is so big that everyone will find something for themselves. Lovely cellar door with wine barrels and processing tanks inside, overlooking vineyards together with wine testing and great host make our experience very enjoyable. For me Casley Mount Hutton was the best winery I've visited so far in Stanthorpe, strongly recommend to add to your bucket list while you are there.

Our fav winery we visited. The owners/ winemakers were wonderful people who went out of their way to make it a great experience. The best part was the behind the scenes tour of how wine is actually made. So fascinating.
