A must walk or even better rent a bike from Better By Bike in Arrowtown and ride the trail down the river.

Could spend hours here skipping rocks and swimming. Bring mosquito repellent. Plus, Arrowtown is near by so you can visit there as well.

As a tourist, didn't find this place as attractive. A bunchnof old settlers hute scattered around the area. The trees around were colourful though - the hills has trees of myriad hues. So may be visit for the surrounding landscape. There areqny walking trails around the Arrowtown area. For history enthusiasts this place may be of interest, others may be not worth it ..

An incredible glimpse into the history of Arrowtown and Chinese miners in New Zealand. Lots of information, and great restoration of the site. Paired with a visit to the museum nearby, it was well worth a visit!
Teagen S — Google review
Some interesting historical information. Flat area to walk around. Not a great deal to see. I did however see my first ever bumblebee. Much bigger than a 'normal' bee
Tracy P — Google review
Historical place about the gold mine and the immigrants who worked here. Now it's a peaceful place with great walking trails. Lovely time spent here walking around and reading the descriptions on the history boards.
R L — Google review
Great site to have a glimpse of brief history of Chinese settlement with real dwellings from local material. Ample parking and information provided at the site.
Andrew C — Google review
This is a real eye opener into how the Chinese who came to pan for gold kept their lives away from the main area of the town. Worth a walk around to see the replica buildings and learn about their story.

What a lovely place to ski! Very efficient shuttle system and zero hassle. Big ups to Max (our instructor) who was very passionate about skiing and very skilled at teaching adults, including explaining the Newtonian mechanics of how it all worked! Was able to go from zero to be able to do some green runs after a 3 hour lesson.
Firmin L — Google review
Beautiful slopes with great variety, also some amazing food at reasonable slopes prices. Our instructor (Luis Miguel) was absolutely amazing and did great with patience and explaining how to do things in an engaging and understandable way. I can say my skiing improved greatly after being with him. Highly recommend him to teach lessons.
Charlotte B — Google review
Nice ski area with great views and a relaxed atmosphere. We visited in late July and barely had to wait for the chairlifts, which was a pleasant surprise. Some areas had limited snow coverage, though, so take care on the slopes. Overall, a fun experience even in the off-season!
Yoyo C — Google review
wonderful place to visit in Queenstown. However, the road can be quite challenging during the winter season compared to Coronet Peak, with sudden changes in weather. It is recommended to use snow chains or a 4WD vehicle; alternatively, you can take the bus service from the car park. Even if you are not a skier, there is a dedicated area for kids and families on the left-hand side, which makes it enjoyable for everyone. Food prices are reasonably fair, and hot water is available on site. There is ample space outside, but it is more comfortable to stay indoors while having a meal, as it can get very cold.
Asanka G — Google review
Better than cornet peak, however drive is not for the faint of heart , 1 wrong move and its instant death, thanks to hardly no physical protection. Resort is small and once parking is filled attendee will direct/ insist you park exceptionally close to the almost 90 degree edge of the mountain. After a risky drive your met to a pretty average resort, its Okey but not great by any means.
Ibrahim — Google review
first timer lesson and instructor was good but beware staff at rentals some can be hostile towards asians (caveat not all). instructors were good and fun. tad crowded but overall great experience

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had an amazing experience learning with Nick Collyer! He explains the techniques in such a clear and simple way, breaking everything down step by step so it’s easy to follow. He’s incredibly patient and respectful, which made me feel comfortable and confident on the snowboard. I really appreciate how he quickly spotted my problems and corrected me in a way that I could fully understand. Thanks to his guidance, I improved so much faster than I expected! I’ve already recommended him to all my friends and will definitely be booking more lessons with him.
Chloe S — Google review
The slopes are very good provided you get some good snow. The whole place is not that big but they do a good job in maintaining it. The bus shuttle service and parking is good. Tha biggest problem I have with the place is that it’s too damn crowded and during the lunch hour it’s impossible to find a place to sit down. Either don’t sell so many passes or expand the area. The skiing is almost twice as expensive as Europe but nowhere close to Europe in facilities. That being said, this best is best option in NZ and Queenstown is so much more than just skiing. Btw, the staff is great and super helpful! 5 stars to the staff and none for the management/owners.

A must visit lake in New Zealand and I personally love this more than tekapo 😆
KV L — Google review
Picturesque lake and town that has a really nice laid back vibe to it. Very different to its bigger bustling tourist town cousin of Queenstown. The mountains with snow on the peaks with the clear water make for some great photos. The walk around the lakes edge is nice and flat and perfect for a stroll. The town has a good selection of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Loved it.
Shaun L — Google review
Beautiful lake with chalets and hotels lining is shores on the one end and massive mountain ranges on the other. Roy's peak is accessed from here which is a hike that takes you to that place you see on Instagram with sprawling views of the lake in all its glory. For the less adventurous, there are kayaks available to rent and other adventure activities

The must beautiful lake
Kane C — Google review
A highlight of the town and a nice place for walking around. I appreciated that there were so many nice public toilets, especially in the part that touches the town. It just means that anyone can really spend a long time at the lake and chill there.
Jana K — Google review
Small little town and a big lake. The famous tree is about a 15 minute walk from the town and can be done near the road or the water. The tree is much closer to the edge of the lake than expected, and much smaller than the photos. Nice pit stop in between a long car or bus ride. The weather can change the experience, definitely plan ahead if this is something you want to include in your trip!
Natalie W — Google review
A special tree that can give you great inspiration ! The Roys Bay of Lake Wanaka is only a a very small beach but there stands a very special and expensive tree. People call it the "Lone Tree" This willow tree submerged just off the shoreline of Roys bay in Lake Wanaka has become an iconic feature of the town . This photo album is only for this one tree ! Hope you like it .

Cardrona Alpine Resort is a laid-back all-season destination offering snow sports and biking trails. Located in the Cardrona Valley, it caters to everyone from beginners to Olympic athletes. The resort, situated 45 minutes from Queenstown and 20 minutes from Wanaka, provides a family-friendly atmosphere with excellent ski and snowboard programs for kids of all ages.
Great snow, friendly staff, and a well-run resort! I visited Cardrona Ski Resort twice this season—first from June 21–23 and then again from June 27–29. I’ll admit I was a bit unsure about the snow conditions at first, especially being early in the season, but I was pleasantly surprised! The snow was actually great when I got there, and the resort was in really good shape. Not all slopes were open yet in June, which is understandable, and unfortunately the resort had to close on June 26th due to rain. But the good news is that powdery snow followed right after—and Cardrona handled it all really well. They offer refunds or rescheduling for rentals, lift passes, and even childcare if conditions force a closure, which I really appreciated. One of the highlights was how well they take care of families(with a little extra charge). The childcare staff were amazing and professional—I felt completely comfortable leaving my little one there while I hit the slopes. The staff overall were super friendly and helpful, and the vibe of the place is warm and welcoming. I had a really good time and would definitely come back again! BTW Check out the snow condition each day in the following photos. Follow “JC snowboard“ on YouTube for more videos and watch as I improve!

Probably the best ski resort for a general good day out for everyone in New Zealand. If you love terrain parks and pipes then this is the place to be in Australasia. Great facilities and well groomed trails. Off piste has certainly got better with the opening of Soho.
Paul S — Google review
Was a wonderful ski field. Had a lot of runs to do and was great with all the lifts and covered escalator for the learners.some staff had no ideas about colours of runs so maybe something for staff to learn up on but we managed to find a ski instructor and they were really knowledgeable about the different coloured runs etc. A lot to do here and a lot of runs. Spent a good day here. Have to get here early if you want a park otherwise you won’t see your car for the day so come prepared. Cafe is on the expensive side, tourist prices of course but still a great day of skiing had. Would definitely come back for more.

Fantastic ski resort with amazing views and well-groomed slopes! Great for beginners and experienced skiers alike. Friendly staff, good facilities, and a fun atmosphere. One of the best places to ski in New Zealand! 🎿🏔️❄️
SK S — Google review
Great place for beginners to expert, but over crowded place for first timers. Should probably go to Remarkables if it’s your first time. Rentals are good quality. And the stuff is friendly and helpful. A lot of easy runs for beginners at different levels. I found it great to instruct people at different levels from beginner to intermediate. Great place for both snowboarding or skiing. Plenty of runs open and the jumps are well groomed.
Karl D — Google review
Very positive and friendly Team running the resort. Private ski lessons are high quality, recommended. Moderate busy. Accommodation is very hard to book, but worth it. Rooms are clean and confortable. Several food options and coffeshop. Not your 5star level meals, but very good considering how remote the location is and supply challenges. Equipment appear to be very well maintained, including lifts, no visual signs of significant wear.

We came in the first week of September. Spring just started. It treat us well with a sunny sky in the early morning then massive snow in mid day. The field is well maintained and lots experiences for different ski level. We had fun!

If I could give this business zero stars I would. I spent $530 on a two person tour back in August 2022. Underdog cancelled due to weather and which was of our control. I was informed I will be able to obtain a refund. 6 months later, I’ve emailed & called multiple times. No answer and have been ignored.. If I could go back in time I would never have booked with this company. If you do, you will run the risk of loosing $530. I cannot believe a company like this is happy to take your money, not deliver a service and continue to book tours with other people. BEWARE and RE CONSIDER!!!!!
Madeleine F — Google review
If anyone wants a glimpse into how corrupt these folks are, listen to the 3ep series The Underdogs, from The Outside/In podcast, produced by New Hampshire public radio. You'll get an even better picture how they've earned all the negative reviews you'll find. Truly terrible people.

DO NOT BOOK!! Do not book anything through these guys. They cancelled the day of. I am owed over $500. Won't pick up the phone or answer emails. Been over a year.

DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR!!! So disappointed. This is the 3rd time we have been to Queenstown and we have nothing but good things to say about all the many experiences we have had. Our sled dog tour was cancelled and like so many we have not received our refund either. This has been promised in emails but now we get no response. Terrible service, we had another experience cancelled and they refunded us immediately. I fail to understand when payment is made in advance why refunds take 5 to 10 days and then not at all.
Julie P — Google review
Our winter tour was cancelled by UnderDog Sled Dog tour. They agreed to refund me the money. According to their website cancellation policy, it takes 5-10 working days. However, after many text messages and phone calls, still no refund after a month. They even don’t feel any apology for their action. This shows how careless they are to their customers.
Nolan — Google review
Like others our tour was rescheduled and then cancelled. A month later and still no refund... It's a considerable amount of money. Have tried to contact via email, phone and text to no avail. Please get in touch UnderDog Sled Tours. Update - We're now 2 months and counting waiting for our refund. There have been many excuses and many assurances of payment, but now texts are being ignored completely. DON'T book with these guys, they'll take your money and run.
Leigh S — Google review
SCAMMERS AND THEIVES: Do not book anything through these guys, if they happen to cancel your tour for some reason, which is perfectly acceptable. They will not refund your money. I have been promised a refund for 2 months now. I am owed over $500. Won't pick up the phone or answer emails.
Adam G — Google review
** edit - over a YEAR later and still no refund, now ignoring all my communications. Awful awful awful. Like others my tour was cancelled and I have spent 3 months trying to get my money back to no avail. Constant lies / excuses over emails about the bank ‘rejecting the payment’ ‘finance department thought they sent it’. Terrible form.
Jenayah E — Google review
Like others my refund is well overdue. Booking was cancelled due to Covid and met the criteria for a refund supposedly to occur in 5-10 working days . I was advised it had been “passed on to the accounts department”. Now 25 days overdue. Warning: DON’T pay in advance especially that they are taking bookings for 2023. I’m taking legal action now.

The National Transport & Toy Museum in Wanaka is a must-visit for car enthusiasts and those young at heart. With over 50,000 toys and vehicles on display, including trucks, cars, motorbikes, airplanes, military vehicles, and tractors, the museum offers a nostalgic journey through collectible relics. Visitors can explore an extensive selection of dolls, teddy bears, battery-powered toys as well as a kids play area and toy store.
This place is astonising and huge! I could not believe how much toys they've managed to collect and kept well in this place. It is more than just transports and toys museum. It collects other old valuables such as type writer, cutleries, drinking cans/glass bottles, old computer system, etc. Most of the vintage cars are kept in good condition. The only down side is the hangers smell heavily of petrol and metal(which I guess is unavoidable...). Well worth $23 for an adult. Plenty of free parking on site. I will definitely return to this gem as it's venue is still expanding with more to see.
Justin Y — Google review
This place really impressed me! I didn't have high expectations going in but was blown away by the volume of interesting artifacts. Everything from antique spoons to X-Men toys. It also feels like they continue to add, maintain and build upon the collection and venue. Great spot, would highly recommend.
Ben M — Google review
Great place to visit, brings back memories of toys from my childhood and more recent ones my kids have had. Lots of great old cars, trucks and planes. Model trains are great also. Lots of lego put together. Very good to just walk around and non stop looking at all the pieces.
Jason R — Google review
A huge and great museum for automobile enthusiasts! With a myriad of cars, fighter/passenger planes, tractors, trains, tanks, ambulance, fire ambulances and model cars on display, those who are really into them could really spend hours and hours here! ✈️ 🚗 🚒 🚋 🚜 The cars aren’t really arranged in a particular fashion, with bits of an assortment kept in each hangar, with some being really dusty as they are kept on sand, perhaps for a particular reason. The model cars selection wasn’t too huge, though there’s some unique Oxford ones i haven’t seen before - can’t find a souvenir to bring home unfortunately.. Definitely a must visit if you are into automobiles, particularly classic ones!
YY — Google review
This is a bit of a hard one because I loved a lot about the place and certainly the idea of it. Undoubtedly the collection is impressive and almost too much to take in. And it's understandable that the upkeep of such a private collection is no doubt costly and time consuming. It's definitely impressive, but also basically more like several sheds full of stored stuff than a 'museum'. Still recommend a visit but don't expect a pristine display, more of someone's clear love for collecting an interesting and large eclectic store of items, mostly in an as-is condition and squeezed into very limited available space. If you like nostalgia, especially toys, you will love exploring this space and spending several hours. Enjoy it for what it is. If you have very high expectations, you might be disappointed.
RBP — Google review
The Vintage Transportation Museum is a great place to visit. It has a full range of classic cars on display, all very well kept and interesting to see. There’s also a wonderful collection of old-time toys, which adds extra charm and nostalgia. It’s an enjoyable spot for both car lovers and families. Highly recommended!
Xiao C — Google review
This is one of the most enjoyable 2 hours I have spent in a museum. So much to see and just when you think you have seen something, look up and there is more. Old cars, planes , toys, there is so much to see.
Melissa M — Google review
I had no idea where I was heading into - but this place offers sensory overload for transport and toy fans and horrified me in how much stuff as a generation has landed in landfill rubbish cause no one kept it. here they have kept everything!

Located in Central Otago, this center offers guided tours that provide insight into the tools, techniques, and socio-economic impact of 19th-century gold mining. Explore old miners' huts, shafts, and tunnels to gain a glimpse into life during the gold rush era.
Random find. We stopped off while traveling somewhere else. Did the tour and gold panning. It was $35pp. Definitely worth it. It was something nice to do. The guide was great. Lots of things to look at. There is a self guided walk you can do . It's quite hilly and lots of gravel though, but loads to see. Recommend doing it clockwise, not anticlockwise like we did!!
Lauren W — Google review
Loved the day out here, had a walk around the Chinese camp, tour, gold panning, and a beer at the bar. Our tour guide was fantastic, he was very enthusiastic and easy to talk to. He showed us how to gold pan (we didn't find any) and we chatted with him afterwards too.

My sister and I both really enjoyed our time here. I would advise sturdy walking shoes. We both have health issues and we did the short walk. The staff were amazing and the retail space is very tempting, and yes we were tempted.

Not much to see unless you pay $45 to enter. We didn't think it was worth it. Would have been happy to pay $20 to $25. There is a bridge across the river. Definitely worth walking across to see the power of the water. Certainly wouldn't want to fall in.

Definitely a fun little exercise and pretty cheap it was worth a look, you can pan for gold and if you are lucky enough to find something you get to keep it

A great intro to old mining techniques in a beautiful riverside location. Our guide Richard was outstanding in his delivery of his knowledge and expertise. The onsite bar and restaurant, Panners, was also very good.

Amazing location and people. Loved the experience, even found a bit of gold! Would highly recommend.

We picked a day for it! Pretty cool experience walking through Chinatown, honestly hard to believe that thousands lived like that! The old machinery is impressive and we enjoyed our wee history fix. Panning for gold was a fun way to top it off, big thanks to our guide who was flexible with limited time :)

Highlands Motorsport Park is located near Cromwell, offering a range of driving experiences and attractions. The center features a motorsport museum, a go-kart track with high-speed karts, dirt buggies for off-road action, and an international standard race track where visitors can enjoy thrilling rides in luxury cars like Porsche GT3 and Lamborghini. Additionally, the park offers interactive activities for kids in the museum and provides taxi rides for an adrenaline-pumping experience.
Awesome place to stop by if you love motorsports. Check out the cars on the track, where people have paid for experiences. I was lucky to see the Lamborghini come out and the Ford GT come out. Also check out Loo with a View under the Cafe at the back.

It was my first time trying go-karts and it was truly an amazing experience! My 10-year-old son had an absolute blast too. Even if you bump a little, it doesn’t hurt. Before that, we played mini golf, and it was really fun doing it with the wind blowing hard—it added to the charm!

Pop by to take a quick look during our road trip. Beautiful, powerful cars on display in the area. You would love this place if you are a race car enthusiast. Heard it will probably be one of the f1 race track in the near future from one of the locals.

Love this place, Tony has injected so much motorsport passion into NZ, recommend stopping by! Also, the team at Highlands are always so welcoming.
Steve — Google review
During our road trip through New Zealand, we stumbled upon the Highlands race track quite by chance. We were hoping that an opportunity to either drive or ride along would be available at just the right time. And I was in luck! Shortly after arriving, I was able to enjoy a very dynamic ride in a Lamborghini Huracán with a professional driver. The track is very interesting, with tight corners, fast sections through hills and valleys, and bridge crossings. I had a lot of fun and highly recommend it.

Did the 7 lap Mustang self drive. Well worth the money. Great instruction and very friendly. I would recommend. Even if you aren't a ford man like myself.

The Heritage Precinct museum in New Zealand showcases restored buildings from the Gold Rush era of the 1860s, which now house shops and cafes. It offers a chance to reflect on early European history while exploring horse stables and enjoying picnics near Lake Dunstan's seating areas. There are vintage equipment displays, bakeries, and life-sized mannequins that add to the experience. The spot is also ideal for food and drinks with a stunning view of the lake.
It's a lovely spot for a break when you are on your way to somewhere from Queenstown or if you are in cromwell. It's like a walk down the memory lane with historical displays open for you to explore on a beautiful lakeside. The cafe here served some delicious cakes and coffee.
Prerna V — Google review
Great explore to what people used to have back then. Impressed by the estates being preserved. Attendants at the shops open were welcoming and helpful. Definitely worth the trip.
Andrew C — Google review
Interesting place to stop and stretch your legs. Small gold fields style town buildings with most that you can explore inside. The whole town sits on the banks of Lake Dunstan so can be a very scenic lunch or coffee stop
Murray L — Google review
A selection of old town buildings rebuilt after part of the town was flooded for the building of a dam back in the 70s. These shop fronts portray the late 1800s though so a step back in time. Worth a little wander around. A couple of places to eat and drink too.

This is an amazing spot, so much history here and its worth the walk around to see everything. Today was our very first time seeing the 'Old Cromwell ' we traveled up from Dunedin. Come check it out 😁

Bike It Now!

Bike It Now! in Clyde offers excellent service for those interested in the Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail. They can assist with arranging shuttle times and pickups for the reverse ride from Clyde to Cromwell, taking advantage of the wind and less aggressive egress. The trail offers beautiful views and cantilevered sections hugging the mountain. Riders can expect a time of around 3 hours and 20 minutes.
We're both 70+ Aussie & hadn't ridden a bike in over 25 years so were a tad apprehensive about our ability to complete the challenges posed by a 4 day e-bike trip alongside our daughter, son-in-law and 8 years old grandson! Anyway we did a half day practice on our home turf a couple of weeks before departure and felt positive. Claire Seaton at BIN made all the bookings for us and did an excellent job, and didn't mind fielding all my questions. The BIN staff that briefed us at Clyde were equally good and factored in my crook back! So off we went and yes the D.S.I. (Derriere Soreness Index) on Day 1 was at a 'barely noticeable' score of 2 which on Day 2 rose upto a 5 - "ooh, that's tender" despite wearing the very stylish padded cycle pants! But on the longest day covering close on 50kms from Wedderburn to Hyde we pulled out of our cyclist's armoury some Pommie made stuff called "Velochampion Chamois Cream" also referred to by the Kiwis as "Butt Butter" and you spread this stuff on your derriere before you put on your stylish padded cycle pants. Well folks don't knock it til you try it - as much to our surprise our D.S.I. factor dropped a smidge to about 4! Was it Value For Money? - yep it sure was as the equipment that BIN supply was top notch and the package included 3 nights Bed & breakfast and they had thought pretty much everything for our trip, so I give them a 10/10

My fiancé and I had an amazing experience with Bike It Now. Their attention to detail was great and we felt reassured the whole time! We did the Otago Rail Trail over 4 days, 3 nights (on e-bikes) and it was such a pleasant experience, we had lots of time to stop along the way. We can't wait to book in for the remaining trails. Thanks bike it now team!

Did the Otago Rail Trail with Bike It Now – absolutely brilliant experience! Everything was so well organised, from luxury accommodation to dinner bookings and luggage transfers. The team were incredibly informative and made the whole journey seamless — all we had to think about was pedalling, enjoying the food, and sampling some great Otago wines. Created amazing memories along the way. 100% recommended! 🚴‍♀️🍷

Christine is very friendly and accommodating. I camped here in my tent and really appreciated how well cared for and clean the shared facilities were, and how safe, peaceful and quiet it was. Really nice showers. The gardens are beautiful and I enjoyed being able to walk along the river into town. Was only planning to stay two nights but ended up staying three as it is such a nice spot. Would definitely recommend it!
Kim W — Google review
We have stayed at multiple top 10 parks during our 3 week travels and this is by far our favourite. Christine was super friendly and very helpful with any questions we had. The park is extremely well kept and very very clean. Shower/toilet ensuite blocks are very neat and tidy, shower pressure is so good too. The camp kitchen was also very clean, and it didn’t have that yucky camp kitchen smell that many do have. It was an all around great stay for us, we highly recommend staying here.
J — Google review
We had a wonderful stay at the Roxburgh Top 10 holiday park. I had booked the wrong date for our stay (out by a week!) and Christine was super helpful, changing our booking and finding us somewhere indoors to stay, as the forecast was for thunderstorms (and it turned out to be intense!). The cottage was super cute and comfortable and the setting was lovely. Highly recommend!
Marion R — Google review
Great park and facilities upgraded and modern. If coming off the cycle trail from the river using the back entrance be aware there is as VERY steep slope up to the camp with a loose gravel surface, the road is better. A very peaceful location.

Beautiful gardens. Very quiet site. Emplacement was jolly big. Wished we had booked more than one night in order to explore the area. Didn't use the showers which are a two dollar charge.

Really enjoyed our stay in one of the cottages. Perfectly set up with everything you need. Immaculate and cosy. Great operators, very thoughtful, and easy to communicate with.

Well what a find, not a big brash Top10 park & probably now my favourite. I stayed in my sleeper van and didn’t require power hook up. Very reasonably priced, grounds immaculate, facilities practical & very clean, Christine the owner was great. Close to the cycle trail, track down to the river, short walk or ride into town.
Judy D — Google review
This is an absolutely delightful spot. The grounds were beautifully maintained and there is so much for the kids to do - huge playground, games, bikes, places to explore. We stayed in a cabin and it was very spacious, comfortable and welcoming - honestly more homely and enjoyable than many hotels I've stayed in! Highly recommend, look forward to coming back for a longer stay in future.

Once was enough - a fabulous experience once!!! Cycling the Dunstan Trail was more challenging than I thought it would be .. hairpin turns were wicked. Probably it was scary for me for these reasons: 1) I’d never ever ridden trails as close to ‘the edge’ as these - on the left side nearest the drop off. 2) It was my first time on an E-bike 3) The narrow trail/path with loose gravel was new to me - I am used to bike trails or country side roads in Canada. It took me until the last third of the trail I began to feel comfortable shifting the gears on the right handle bar as well as the E-speed on the left. Thankfully I opted for an E-bike… it would have been impossible for me to ride on a regular bike! Not so for the younger stronger set! All that said, I am thrilled to have done the Dunstan - a miracle with tremendous long lasting memories!!’ Stunning vistas with stops along the way up and down with equal challenge ability! Thank you for making the trip possible. Shebikeshebikes is a terrific company with caring and competent friendly folks. Mji

Great service from Shebikeshebikes meant we had a great day on the trail. We were a really mixed group in terms of experience and ability, but electric bikes and the crew's recommendation for what trail to ride meant we all had a fabulous time. Thanks for the care you took making sure we had what we needed. Ngā mihi!

This was my first taste of Otago trails. Staying at Ranfurly, I chose to ride what was recommended to be the best section of the Otago Rail Trail, ie Omakau to Ranfurly. Shebikeshebikes were able to shuttle me and my ebike to Omakau from where I was able to cycle the trail back to the motor camp at Ranfurly. Shebikeshebikes provided the perfect service; a very enjoyable drive with a lovely driver and at a remarkably reasonable cost. P.S. Two days later I used Shebikeshebikes to shuttle me and my bike from Clyde to Cromwell so I could ride the amazing Lake Dunstan Trail back to Alexandra Holiday Park. Again the shuttle service was superb.

The Central Cycle Trails in the South Island of New Zealand offer a variety of mountain biking experiences suitable for different fitness levels. We loved our 5 day cycle tour of the Otago rail trail booked through Cycle Surgery. The ebikes were top notch, comfortable and easy to use. The accommodation was fantastic, including historic buildings, and we even had dinner bookings and transfers to restaurants each night. It was a pleasure to leave our bags each morning, zoom off on our bikes, and find our bags waiting for us at the next stop. The staff were all fun, chatty and interesting. We found the app really useful for our itinerary (including lunch recommendations) and for up to date information about the trail and conditions. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others, and in fact already have.

Superb hospitality from Donna, saved my day. Sadly I was just passing by Middlemarch, but they seem to have a wealth of history and strong community. Might as well spend a couple of nights there next time around.
Vinicius T — Google review
I can’t say enough about this team. From our initial booking and having a tailor made package for the four of us which suited our needs and budget. We opted for a more expensive package which included the Taieri Railway trip to Middlemarch to start the track and great accomodation for 3 nights from the options offered us. You choose what you want and pay accordingly which suited us fine. Loved the ability of just turning up on day 1 and being able to ride with bikes already sorted and accomodation already prebooked. As we had just come off 3 days on the Routeburn Track we also had the problem of getting all or packs and gear from accommodation to accomodation each night but that was no problem to Cycle Surgery and it arrived at each destination before us each day. From our first contact with them all our queries were answered and promptly- nothing was too hard and if we do the trail again we would use them again. On the completion of the trail and getting transported back to Queenstown we got an excellent commentary from Lonnie about places of interest along the way and showed the value of staff who are engaged with their work as opposed to just turning up each day. I researched service providers on Google before booking and also spoke with friends who had done the Rail Trail and used Cycle Surgery before and went with them. So glad we did and after our experience with them and the comprehensive package and services they offer we highly recommend them.

A perfect trip well planned by Cycle Surgery.I had the idea for a surprise getaway culminating in a romantic proposal but didn't know where to start. One email to Pip at Cycle Surgery and she had it all sorted.3 beautiful and very different nights accommodation.Fantastic meal bookings.Car transfer. The most comfortable bikes we have ever ridden. And the special touch of organizing Champagne and Flowers to be set up in our Accommodation. Thanks to Pip and the team.It was such a pleasure to have people that are so passionate about what they do help us with our special weekend.

Every aspect of the service from Cycle Surgery was excellent from start (in 2019 for a March 2020 trip that got called off) to finish (rebooked for Feb 2021 and in the opposite direction - and a marvellous experience). We would unreservedly recommend them - whether you are an experienced cyclist or a newbie. The Rail Trail is wonderful, we will do it again hopefully and if we do we will be on the email to Pip at Cycle Surgery
Alison P — Google review
4 day ride was perfect, a group of 13 people was so much fun and great weather with spectacular views. Cycle Surgery provided awesome bikes and fantastic backup, we had one tyre blow out and they fixed it with in 1/2hr. Amazing
Ty H — Google review
Unfortunately for us, we didn't book our hire bikes and rail trail tour through Cycle Surgery, otherwise things may have been a bit smoother! We did, however, book a transfer from Dunedin to Middlemarch (with John - what a great guy) to start the rail trail and a jet boat ride out of Alexandra with Lawrence! Lucky we did, as our trip was cut short due to flooding and it was Cycle Surgery to the rescue with a scenic trip with Dave from Middlemarch back to Dunedin. Cycle Surgery have great facilities and a huge variety of hire bikes for all levels - they cater for day trips on ebikes, adventures on MTBs, or longer trips for those bike packing! They know all there is to know about getting the most out of the time you have and value your holiday time as much as you do! Their business model is all about your happiness and that is very evident in all our dealings with the staff. When we come back to finish the Roxburgh and Clutha Gold trails, we will definitely be booking through Cycle Surgery!
Claire B — Google review
Would highly recommend booking your rail trail adventure with Cycle Surgery. My husband and I booked this last year and did the trail April 2019. Right from the first email, they responded quickly and with a wonderful itinerary, which included transfers to and from Dunedin. The bikes were fantastic, with no issues on the trail. Accommodation was very good, comfy beds and nice and clean and tidy with lovely continental breakfast provided. It was also great to be booked into places for night meals so you didn't have to worry about where to go. If this adventure is on your bucket list, tick it off, it's a must. Contact Cycle Surgery now! You won't be disappointed

The Purakaunui Falls Walk is a short, 15-minute return track that leads to the iconic Purakaunui Falls, one of the most photographed waterfalls in New Zealand. The walk is easily accessible from a spacious car park with public toilets and offers a leisurely stroll towards the falls, including a descent down some stairs to reach the viewing platform. The area is known for its lack of mobile signal coverage, making it an ideal spot to disconnect and enjoy nature.
Fairly easy 10 minute walk to the falls but I'd say it may be a bit slippy in the rain. We went on a lovely sunny day and the waterfalls were lovely. I'd imagine even more spectacular after some rain. Highly recommend going here
Daren L — Google review
I have a bad leg and the walk was still doable. Steep stairs in one part, be careful when wet. Vault athrooms at parking. No cost. Road to Owaka is paved, gravel in the other direction at this time. 10 to 15 minute walk to the end.
Todd S — Google review
Purakaunui Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever visited. The walk through the forest to reach it was calm and refreshing, surrounded by tall trees and the sound of birds. The waterfall itself was stunning, with water flowing gracefully over three tiers of rocks. It looked picture-perfect from every angle. The viewing platform made it easy to enjoy the full view and take great photos. The area was clean and well maintained. A peaceful and unforgettable place to visit. A solid 5-star experience.

Great walk for families. 15 minutes round trip on a flat gravel path along the river. A few stairs to descend before reaching the waterfall. Can be busy in summer, visit in morning or off season to get the views to yourself. Toilets, picnic area and non potable water in car park

A must stop on any drive through the Catlins. Plenty of parking and toilets, well marked trail through beautiful forest to the falls. Some steps on the way. This visitors center was actually amazing. There’s a work space upstairs and has a lot of large windows that can be used to get a view of the river and the houses that are next to it. I got a very Japanese vibe from the whole view. The lady who was working at the information center was incredibly kind and gave me a bunch of information about the Caitlins and some of the surrounding areas. There’s also a cinema in the building as well that plays some movies here and there.

My last trip to Nugget Point was absolutely amazing. The view from the lighthouse was breathtaking, with the ocean stretching endlessly and waves crashing against the rocks below. The walk to the lighthouse was easy and scenic, surrounded by native plants and bird sounds. I spotted seals resting on the rocks, which made the visit even more special. Olveston Historic Home, located on Royal Terrace in Dunedin, is a well-preserved former merchant home dating back to the early 1900s. The house offers guided tours and serves as a walk-in time capsule, providing visitors with a glimpse into New Zealand's European-influenced history during that era. Built by local philanthropist David Theomin, the house features a striking facade designed by English architect Sir George Ernest.
We are so glad that we booked the guided tour in Olveston Historic Home - despite our limited time in Dunedin. the house is easy to find and there is ample car parking right in front of the house (free parking for 90 minutes). Alex at the reception was very friendly and welcomed us. Sarah was our guide and what a fantastic tour she did with our small group. It felt as if she was part of the family and the house, the tour was really personal and gave us so many insights in the history of the family, and how it was to live a hundred years ago in a house such as this one. The owners designed every room with so much thought and personal touch, everything is beautiful and carefully selected and composed. It was truly delightful and if you wonder what to do in Dunedin even with a short one day stay as we had, do book the guided tour in Olveston Historic House you will not regret it. Highly recommended.

I give this place a 5 star. Only in Dunedin for 3 days but have had this on the bucket list for some time. I booked a guided tour and our guide was a lovely lady named Chris. The history around this house and the Olveston family was very interesting and engaging. The historical information was quite interesting yet a little sad considering the lifespan of the family members. If you have some spare time make sure you book a guide here as I am positive you won’t be disappointed. The gardens are also a pleasure to walk through.

A must see for those with an interest in history and a rare chance to a see a home that’s kept as it was when it was given to the city. You’ll feel like you are walking into a time capsule as almost all the items in the home, including the vast art collection and even down to the fly swatter hanging in the kitchen, have been left as the original owners had it. In addition to this we had an extremely knowledgeable tour guide who told us all about the history of the family and also about the items in the home. We could tell she was passionate about the home and its history which really made the tour that much more memorable and fun! The intention with which the home was designed by the owners it’s also incredibly interesting and makes you think how you would design your own home. It’s truly a beautiful and unique location and well worth adding to your list of to do’s in Dunedin!

- Guided tours avail throughout the day - free to walk the grounds & go through reception & gift shop on the bottom floor - could easily spend a day here, there is so much to see! - the grounds, home & everything in it have been restored & maintained with absolute care & precaution - def recommend others to visit here even if you don't do a tour. It's quite breathtaking.

Excellent couple of hours spent touring the intriguing old house and grounds. They have been splendidly maintained with love and pride. Very good tour - enough to want to know more without dragging on too long.

Fantastic tour. The home itself is fascinating. The guide was knowledgeable and the atmosphere was welcoming. Well worth the admission price.

Amazing historic house tour. Stunning condition, with all original items still here. A taste of past life in New Zealand. Need to buy a ticket to visit.

I love the tour and enjoyed the guide tuor. I was interested in the house where a merchant lived. I found that we could see something beautiful and pictures which he bought from Asian countries including Japan and other European countries. I’m so impressed because I’m a Japanese person. It’s a good memory in Dunedin. Also the staff is kind because when I made a mistake of the reservation date, they dealt with that nicely.

Speight's Brewery, a historic red-brick brewery established in 1876, is a must-visit landmark offering guided tours and tastings. The brewery features a working still and also houses the NZ Whisky Co, continuing the tradition of whisky production in Dunedin. Visitors can explore the Speights Heritage Centre for an informative tour through the brewery and museum, followed by tasting sessions at the private Heritage Bar.
👍 Like my review! The tour and tasting was worth it ... especially with Carlos as your tour guide. The cost of the tour was $45 which I initially thought was pricey until at the end. The tour is 45 minutes which was too short for a nerd like me but too long for those who just wanted the tastings. Once you get to the tastings, make sure you know what you want because they may have to close up at the end. I tasted all 10 they had to offer and was even provided a paper and pen for my notes. Yes, I'm one of those people who really appreciates a good damn beer. My experience was only elevated thanks to Carlos including his kindness, knowledge, and sense of humor. Overall, I would recommend it to friends and family! Make sure to not drive home right away since you'll enjoy your time.

Fabulous tour by Marty this afternoon. Very informative and lots of artefacts to look at. The walking wasn't too far and the tasting session at the end was most enjoyable. Was a bonus to get 10% off in the shop too.
Laura W — Google review
A very interesting and informative tour. Our guide, Marty, was witty and had answers to every question. We also enjoyed the tasting at the end of the tour! Shopping for souvenirs was also excellent. Christmas shopping done!!

Well worth the 45min tour. Very informative, good guide, sample of beers at the end. Shop staff are lovely. And they have NZ Whisky now. Got to try it. The Wilsons Misty River liqueur is great.

We had an amazing tour with Carlos. From start to finish he was patient, never rushed us through and was thoroughly explanatory. If your into history and beer then this is a fantastic tour for you. From how it all started to now was a great insight to the legendary crafted beer we still drink today. Then at the end of the tour you get to taste some or all of the 9 beers + 1 apple cider which we tasted all 😄. Great value for money and highly recommended.

A really fun thing to do. And this is coming from a girl who is by no means a beer fanatic. Thomas was a great tour guide, incredibly knowledgable and very passionate. Good sense of humour too. Really cool to do a truly South Island experience, delicious beer tasting at the end, plus the gift shop does actually have quite cool stuff! Thanks for a fun arvo team :)

Marty was amazing, great tour, loved speights products and production, must visit to have few beers at the bar end and see how the are made.
Sagar A — Google review
A really engaging and informative tour from start to finish. Our guide, Marty, made the whole experience memorable with his witty explanations, friendly personality and impressive knowledge of the entire process. He took the time to answer every question in detail, no matter how small. The pace of the tour was just right, and we felt we learned a lot without ever feeling rushed. The tasting at the end was a perfect way to wrap things up, giving us a chance to appreciate everything we’d just learned. Overall, a fantastic experience that we’d happily recommend to anyone.

Natural History Museums
Tūhura Otago Museum in Dunedin, New Zealand offers a diverse range of cultural and natural history exhibits. Visitors can explore hands-on science areas, a planetarium, and a butterfly house. The museum is home to rare collections of natural specimens and human artifacts from various Pacific cultures. Permanent exhibitions include Tangata Whenua showcasing Southern Maori artifacts, as well as a maritime gallery featuring a massive Fin Whale skeleton and ship models.
Fantastic museum. The free to look around areas are fabulous and took around 1.5 hours for a good look through, but you could easily spend 2-3 hours looking at more detail and interacting with the displays. We went to specifically look at the Relics display which is a temporary display that is there until the 27 April 2025. It was stunning, tickets required to this area. Well worth a visit. There is also a science and tropical area with 100’s of butterflies 🦋. It’s a brilliant experience. Well worth it. Wheelchair friendly for 90% of the areas. Sitting areas around the museum, so if you get tired easily this is great. Clean toilets. Cafe and shop there too. We didn’t use these services this time.

Our kids enjoyed the science centre, spent a fair bit of time here, the planetarium was ok would've more liked to hear about facts of the solar system and see more planets than just the astrology constellations. Butterfly house was nice with some birds also. Most I've paid for a museum before.

I enjoyed my visit to the Dunedin Museum and Butterfly House. It's a fantastic place with a great mix of things to see. The butterfly house was a highlight — absolutely beautiful and calming, with so many colorful butterflies flying freely around you. I also really loved the photography exhibition, The museum overall was well-presented, interesting, and worth a visit if you're in the area. Highly recommend!

I visited this museum during my stay in Dunedin and really enjoyed it! It’s a fascinating place with a wide range of exhibits — from natural history and science to cultural collections. The layout is modern and easy to explore, and the staff are friendly and helpful. A great spot to learn, relax, and spend a few hours discovering something new. Highly recommended for visitors to Dunedin!
NaSSeR S — Google review
The museum's experience is the best visit for me in Dunedin. I can't believe so many butterflies in front of my eyes! Amazing and must try in Dunedin. The museum is big and probably you have to spend a day here!
Lim S — Google review
Was a lovely museum and spent a good 3 hours here, you definitely need to pay if you have kids to get into the science area and butterflies as they were the. Ist interesting areas. We paid $81 for our family to get into that and also the planetarium as well. I wouldn’t say it was worth it for that amount and wouldn’t go again because of the price but worth it if you want to tick it off the list or need something to do indoors. Also has a cafe which was great.

I recently visited the Tuhura Otago Museum and was thoroughly impressed by the wide range of exhibits on display. One of the standout attractions is the 2,500-year-old Egyptian mummy, which is astonishing to see in person. The museum's ship model display is also quite remarkable. Among the impressive collection, I was delighted to find a model of the ship my ancestors arrived on in 1930. The museum also features a LEGO display, which looks like a lot of fun, but it requires a separate ticket that I didn't purchase. Another highlight of the museum is the Wildlife Attic, where they have a variety of taxidermy animals from all over the world. It was fascinating to see such a diverse collection. Overall, I had a wonderful time exploring the exhibits, and the friendly staff made the experience even better. I highly recommend a visit to the Otago Museum for anyone interested in history, wildlife, and unique displays.

Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful museum. Came in for the Lego Relics and walked around for more than Lego. I really love how the museum curates Lego with a mixture of historical and old stuff. It is like narrating a story. Very creative. Loves to spend more time here and wish to come back visit (if the ticket price can be cheaper 😓)

The museum showcases the experiences of early Scottish settlers like John McGlashan, who sought to recreate the charm of Edinburgh in New Zealand. Visitors can learn about their endeavors and enjoy kid-friendly displays as well as a cafe on-site.
It's a really nice museum to learn more about the settlers in Dunedin and history around it. Friendly and helpful staff at the museum to help around. One of my favourite museums to go to. No tickets required.

Well worth a stop. Spacious and well laid out. Something for everyone in the exhibits. Cafe gets very full mid morning. Good gift shop. Free entry with donation box. Normally a park on the street close by, pay by plate system.

This was a great little find in Dunedin. We were looking to fill some time and stumbled across this museum and it far exceeded my expectations for a free museum. Definitely worth the visit.

Definitely a learning journey, being in toitu museum. Plenty of exhibits, each station's very cool. Huge place to wander aimlessly for half a day. But its never boring.. i gained alot of insights and knowledge. :) Recommended. Its FOC, runs on donation. Go!

Great place to visit. Something for adults and kids as well. Very informative museum where I learnt quite a lot about Dunedin and the great place it is. I would highly recommend a visit if you have some time

One of my favourite museums in New Zealand! I haven't visited since I was a kid in over a decade so it looked completely different from what I remembered. I learned so much about Dunedin's rich history, and the artifacts were cool too! Who would've thought a Lime scooter would end up in a museum?
Bianca B — Google review
👍 Like my review! We stumbled upon the Toitu Otago Settlers Museum in Dunedin, New Zealand upon our arrival in the area. We didn't realize it was free relying on donations but our surprise was how massive it was. We really enjoyed the history from the beginning with the Maori but also highlighting how Dunedin is such an important hub in New Zealand. I would say that we were there for over 1.5 hours and there was a lot to read, consume, and enjoy. My favorite portion of the museum was seeing several vehicles and cable cars preserved! We would definitely recommend to our family and friends.
John V — Google review
I did not plan to visit this museum. I had finished my sightseeing and was headed to my hotel. As I was passing by, I realized the museum was open, so I stopped in. The building is very modern and the exhibits are well ordered. The museum details the history of the first settlers to arrive in Dunedin through to the present day. It was fun to hear the music, see the types of clothes, furniture, and cars change throughout the years. Dunedin is a melting pot of many kinds of people. I especially enjoyed listening to accounts from sections called "our voices" and the room filled with photos of the first settlers. I spent about an hour in the museum and I wish I had more time. I highly recommend it. This museum has free entry. On this day, the museum had extended hours in the gift shop. They were playing Christmas music, which was nice.

Dunedin Botanic Garden, established in 1863 as the first of its kind in New Zealand, spans 28 hectares and is home to over 6,800 plant species. The lower gardens boast an Edwardian Winter Garden glasshouse with tropical plants and a serene Japanese Garden with a bamboo grove. Even during winter, the garden offers beautiful sights such as the flowering Himalayan daphne and a dedicated section for winter and spring flowers.
Big range of variety of gardens and plants. Nice walk to the aviary to see heaps of kākā and parrots. Duck feeding is available near the information center. Lots of other birds to watch around the gardens. Lots of street parking.

Such a wonderful place to visit. So many things to offer for young and old. You have to visit all the areas, the herb circle, playground feeding the ducks was hilarious with our kids. We came back again to explore more and see the aviary which was awesome, the birds are hilarious and beautiful.

Biggest botanic garden I've ever seen! It's quite the climb, but go up to the aviary. They have all sorts of wonderful birds that come close to look at you (especially when you wear a bright coat). They have all sorts of gardens, but the roses are my favourite!! Don't skip this part of Dunedin
Djoeke — Google review
Beautiful place to visit. Well thought out and impeccably curated and kept. The upper gardens had a wide array of flowers and plants that were very unique to NZ. Delightful! Unfortunately we only got to view the amazing green house from the outside but it looked full to the brim of beautiful greenery!

A beautiful place, with fabulous walks, glasshouse and aviary. In particular was stoked to find some fascinating plant species on sale in their info centre (from their local plants?), the opportunity to feed ducks with bird food for a donation also has a special charm. The 50yo Kea and other talking parrots were also a delight!

The most beautiful public gardens in New Zealand. Definitely worth a visit in any weather.

Went on a cold, windy day, but it's still worth it. Was surrounded by ducks very quickly after picking up some free duck food from the information center. It's definitely worth taking the walk up to the aviary to see the parrots and other birds.

The journey takes passengers through the stunning Otago hinterland, showcasing New Zealand's dramatic scenery and the country's early rail engineering marvels. The trip includes crossing the Taieri Gorge on a high viaduct, passing numerous high bridges and 10 tunnels carved out of hillsides.

Commentary was fabulous, food on the trip was great. Sadly the Dunedin side of the Taireri gorge is pines, gorse, and broom. The river has clearly been disturbed by activity up stream..it was dirty. Nothing I have seen in a NZ mountain river. Probably logging. Rail engineering and construction is amazing and the high country stop was a highlight.

A visit to the train station was free and the building itself a stunner. We also visited the gallery on level one which had a artisan shop and also a gallery. The sports museum is also located there. Plenty to see and do 🤗🤗🤗

We had a great time on our Dunedin Railways tour! They had a nice lunch box for us that had a sandwich, a sweet treat, some cheese, and crackers and also had water. Bob was our tour announcer as we saw the great sights of Dunedin and he was a nice gentleman that had a great personality and contagious smile! Kenzie also made sure that everyone was doing well on board and having a great time!

I treated myself to a trip on The Stargazer from Dunedin to Hindon and back. The trip didn't disappoint, from arrival where staff from Tuhura Museum helped everyone get their stargazing apps up and running to getting off at the end. Precinct at the Tuhura Museum provided us with a great tasty 3 course meal. It was much appreciated by everyone from the comments I could hear from the seats around me. The lamb was magnificent and went well with my glass of wine. Once we arrived at Hindon, they divided us into 3 groups, and we attended the different workshops on offer. My favorite was looking through the telescopes provided by The Beverly Begg Observatory. It was pretty special getting a close-up look at our celestial neighbors. Much kudos to them as they had been waiting up there in the cold for us all to arrive in our warm and comfortable train. I keep thinking about the beautiful Jewellry Box constellation with all the different colours. I'm now looking at the night sky differently. Thank you to all who took part in teaching us about our skies. Finally, sated and tired, we hopped back on our warm train to travel home. But they weren't finished with us yet. On the way home,we got to listen to astrophysicist Michelle Thaller answer questions that we had put to her earlier. She covered everything from going to Mars, Aurora, and pineapple on pizza. She has a great way of putting information that sticks with you and is fun. It was a fantastic night, and if you have the opportunity to go on this trip, I couldn't recommend it to you highly enough. Just go and enjoy a great evening adventure.

We travelled from Pukerangi to Dunedin after the Central Otago rail trail. It was a great experience I would recommend for the history and landscape. There was in informative live commentary. The Dunedin Station is one of the finest buildings in NZ and worth seeing . The food onboard was great. I hope that one day the train will be able to go all the way to Middlemarch township like it used to.

My mum booked our family of four for the Seasider journey on wednesday 5th Nov. Unfortunately after we boarded the train and made our way to the seats we had been assigned we found staff member "Janet the Onboard Story Teller" sitting in our seats. She told us to sit somewhere else. She began the announcements by saying the best views are seen by sitting on the right side of the train (the side where she was sitting, the seats that we had booked) Everyone in the carriage was sitting on the right, we were the only ones on the left. This was quite disappointing as we are on holiday and this will probably be the only chance we get to experience this train journey. It looked like Janet enjoyed the views and even snapped a few photos. My mum did manage to slip in to the seat opposite her after halfway through the trip to try and get a few photos herself but it was a bit late by that point. It wasn't really worth the money given the circumstances. There was twin seats with tables that staff members could use where the mic was plugged in but I guess this staff member just wanted space for her drink and snacks. (Booking #316002311)
