OK realistically this will only be of interest to... people who are interested in space and/or radio telescopes. The visitor centre has a number of large posters explaining what the telescope does and how it does it, as well a few actual bits of equipment. There's also a video room which I missed.
Eugene K — Google review
A fantastic spot if you’re interested in radio signal research of our solar system. No movie, no personal contact just great looking dishes on rails. Plaques with info and a few pictures with descriptions of construction.

Entrance to the right if you were coming from Narrabri city centre. Gates close at exact 5pm every day. Strictly no wireless connection allowed. Wifi and bluetooth should be turned off.
Tamer A — Google review
Great site to visit. The dishes are amazing to see. The visitors centre was unmanned so no opportunity to ask questions etc, but it is advertised as a self guided tour. A working satellite dish out the front that visitors can move and direct. Toilets available too.?
Mark E — Google review
A free educational experience when visiting Narrabri. 15 minutes away from A39 Newell Highway when entering Narrabri. It's an astronomy observatory so phones must be on airplane mode with wifi and bluetooth turned off. Great for adults and teens who are keen of radio astronomy. It has an interactive display outside, a whispering dish which was really cool, a number of displays, an up close view of the compact array, and a visitor centre that has great information and audiovisual room. They also sell $1 postcards. Has clean toilets and a well kept surrounding. There are Wallabies near the entrance when we visited, they must be everywhere as the land was vast.

Dennis P — Google review
Friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to find out very specific local and regional information for us. Up to date information from personal experience on local road conditions. Excellent display on the region, and especially informative on cotton. My very reluctant to read 12 year old thoroughly enjoyed the experience and displays and the clever design sparked her curiosity to read and learn. Amenities were modern and clean. Ample parking in the shade. Very interesting things to buy as well.

Thank you to the ladies that helped us, we had a great time. We are now planning a trip to this area, instead of stopping as we pass through on our way to somewhere else. Narrabri Shire Visitor's Information Centre is located in modern purpose built building Coach and caravan parking is available in a spacious drive through area behind the building and adjacent to a lovely park with shade and BBQ facilities. The friendly volunteers assisted us with information on so many activities in the region plus information on many other towns we were curious about visiting or might like to see on our travels. We got a lot of very useful information to help us. The visitor information centre has all the usual maps, information about local events and tourist attractions, as well as local craft and historic photos on display. However, located in the same complex is a huge cotton harvester (amazing to see close up). There is a very comfortable lounge to sit in the cool and read the information provided or watch a short film about the area . There are several other very interesting informative and well presented displays about industry and tourist activites in the Narrabri Shire, so we actually spent well over an hour looking around the free displays. The toilet facilities in this complex are very good and appear to be well maintained.

Would've loved to have had time to do a tour inside the Roxy so only saw the outside and it looked great. A real credit to the Bingara community

We did a tour of the Roxy Theatre and our Tour Guide, Jen really knows her stuff. Jen has an abundance of information and I really recommend the tour. I wasn't expecting such a Grand Theatre and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to do it. A must visit.

Bingarra is filled with historical buildings. The Roxy Theatre is a must see! Jen from the Information Centre conducts tours. The theatre is in excellent condition. You feel the atmosphere as soon as you walk in. You can imagine the crowds dressed in their best back in the early days.

What a wonderful surprise!!! We just turned the corner to have a look at whatever could be a Cranky Rock and after a couple of minutes drive and a 2 minute walk we came across the amazing water hole. The camping grounds look fantastic but we didn't stay so I can't revue. Thank goodness for Nature's wonders and so thankful we turned that corner. Enjoy Every Second!!

What a great spot, leisurely walk to the lookout for great views of the river/creek below, then short walk to a fantastic swimming hole or canoe up the river/creek
Sandra S — Google review
Great stop over on our way to lightning ridge. Nice quiet and not far off the highway. Grandson loved the hooks and birds.
Tracy M — Google review
Great place to visit or camp. I visited and use the picnic area facilities. The walk was lovely.. Tar road all the way in.
Daniel — Google review
This is a great place. It must’ve been fantastic when it was first built many years ago. I believe it even had a zoo there now you can still walk down to the rock. I have caravan and camping spots there. There’s lots of birdlife and other wildlife to see on the way in and out This toilets on site picnic tables. You would need to have medium fitness to make it to the top of the rock to the lookout and low fitness to make it down to the water there is no wheelchair access down to the water.
Ozzie O — Google review
Great spot for a couple of days with an easy walk to a lookout above the gorge. Water was muddy when we were there due to recent rain but according to the caretaker it clears up and the locals frequently swim there. You can book ahead with the caretaker but he told it doesn’t get very busy. Only $15 per night with an honestly box by the office. Friendly and interesting with some beautiful chooks to feed and admire.
Derek A — Google review
Cranky Rock Reserve Camping area adjoins the public day use area to access the reserve. This is a small camping ground with a few powered sites plus non powered sites. A couple of toilets and a shower are available. No pottable water on site so make sure you carry enough. The friendly caretaker lights a fire pit for happy hour every night. The walk to Cranky Rock pool and lookout is short and reasonably easy. The weathered granite formations are interesting and colourful, with the odd boulder precariously sitting on top of rock formations. The view from the lookout is pleasant, as were the walks around the bushland. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here and well worth the short diversion from Warialda to camp.
Ian G — Google review
Lovely campground with powered and unpowered sites, friendly staff, and beautiful natural surroundings (see photos). Facilities include free gas BBQs and covered picnic tables, flush toilets, just one hot shower so may have to wait your turn or share with family members, and raised contained fireplaces are allowed. There are also some interesting domestic animals roaming the place including chickens, horses and peacocks! Very good value all round 🙂

What an awesome collection of local history. Mining and colonial life. Well thought out and presented. I had a lovely 2 hours looking at everything.
Kathryn D — Google review
What a wonderful gem of a place. As a photographer I was given countless wonderful opportunities here. This would also make a great location for a portrait or wedding photo shoot. So many photo opportunities. Most of the buildings are fully furnished and have interesting shops too. Pro Tip - If you are bringing your camera a tripod or monopod would be an asset for indoor shots.
Andrea R — Google review
Nice place which gives an insight about what has made Inverell the place it is today, mining and farming. I really enjoyed the photography exhibit; cameras, film projectors, dark room equipment, photographs, etc. Sadly, as with many of these historic villages the displays have withered and become dated. The interactive features have stopped working or have been turned off. This village is still worth a visit, if you enjoy a self paced walkthrough and being your own guide.
John G — Google review
We loved going here. So much history, took a couple of hours but we were not in a hurry. The caretakers had so much knowledge and were super friendly. Happy we went, lots of interesting buildings. Well kept.
Joanne B — Google review
An amazing museum run by friendly volunteers who treasure the place and maintain it well. It has been set up to accurately reflect the old days. A must visit if you are going thru Inverell. Allow plenty of time as the place is huge, there is so much to see.
Nicole — Google review
Geoff and Denise are terrific caretakers and Geoff has heaps of stories about Inverell and its history. We spent 3.5 hours exploring the village which is a lot bigger and had way more exhibits than expected. You really get a strong feel for the history of the district and how people lived in the pioneering days... thoroughly enjoyed it even sitting by the small lake having lunch and watching the ducks and kingfishers.
Rob M — Google review
We love history and this town has a fantastic display of the region and our humble beginnings as a country. Congratulations to all those involved. We would absolutely recommend a visit while in town!

This place was just a beautiful place to stop. The Devonshire Tea was perfect after a very long drive here. Can not believe we paid $5 for a tea and scones!! That is just impressive. Beautiful museum with lots of great things to look at and take a little trip back in time.
Renèe H — Google review
Great Devonshire tea for only $5! Interesting museum, entry is $3. Friendly volunteers.
Lyn K — Google review
It's well worth the stop to go back in time and look around, excellent tea and scones
Nick B — Google review
If only we had more time. It closes at 1:30 SATURDAYS (Not 3pm as previously advertised). Run by volunteers - make sure you try their great value Devonshire tea in this old world setting.
Charles D — Google review
What a fabulous and interesting place ! If You are anywhere even remotely near the Township of Tingha, make the trip to visit. Really worth your time to experience and explore this eclectic museum. Step back in time and see how Australians used to work, shop and live. The volunteers are super friendly and a wealth of information and knowledge. The $4 admission price, would be the best value for money going around.
Bernd R — Google review
One of those quirky, eclectic, interesting, local museums that can be found in small towns. Run by long-term resident volunteers, who are very happy to share this collection and answer questions about Tingha history and tin mining. Have a Devonshire tea (probably the best scones I have eaten), really good value and must visit local museum.
Zeglar F — Google review

Billabong Blue Sapphire Fossicking Park

Nature & Parks
Parks
Stayed on the property and fossicked for sapphires all day. It was peaceful and quiet, and such a beautiful place to rest and rejuvenate. Bill and Rhonda are absolutely beautiful people!
Rhonda J — Google review
I've been coming here for over 10 years,I always stay on the property and have never had a bad experience. The camp kitchen, toilets and shop has seen this properties attraction double. Bill is a local legend, full of stories and a lovely man aswell.
Dan H — Google review
Went to the river on the property to fossick $10, plus an indemnity form to sign. Which is fair. $25 for the prepared area which guarantees some sapphires at the park to fossick, camping available which we didn’t do. Found a little colour nothing flash. Phone them as they are not always there. But they are open seven days seek to fossick in the river. As stated above
Jenny W — Google review
We decided to fossick and camp at billabong blue and ended up staying a week. We tried out the fossicking park for $20 and found loads of sapphires in a whole day of digging (opens 9am, closes 4pm). Not really any good quality ones though. We brought our own sieves etc so we did two days of our own digging and fossicking in Frazer's creek near the campsite ($10pp). This was more successful with nicer stones. We ended up getting a sapphire and zircon cut. And found one more on the last day that was 3.6 carats that we will get cut. We also camped at their site. They had flushing toilets and a hose with creek water (it was clean but not drinkable) you could use as a shower. They also had a shared space with a kitchen sink that was connected to a rain water tank. There were a few shacks around that you could use. And the bathroom and main communal area had lighting. The bins get emptied every day and the toilet paper gets restocked but I would bring a roll just in case. We accessed Billabong Blue via a sealed road, but the campsite location is through dirt roads around the back. Our mini SUV was fine and most cars in dry weather would be fine also. If you are camping get there before 2pm, if fossicking get there as early as possible. It was very quiet all week but got busier over the weekend. Would highly recommend this, even with families, singles or couples. It was a great experience overall. Loved waking up to the sounds of birds and cows in the morning. And seeing the starry night sky.
Marianna T — Google review
Great family activity, good set up and so much fun. Our family arrived at 9am along with three other families we were fossicking with. Some were experienced fossickers but it was all new to me. Bill, the owner, gave us very clear explanations on how to find gems in the pile he had prepared for the day. We found heaps! Bill supplies all the fossicking material you need and at $50/family, it is good value. The place has two flushing toilets and a tap to wash hands (a bar of soap would be a welcome addition). There are chairs and a picnic table for having a break. We stayed until about 1pm and had lots of fun.
Clotilde B — Google review
Great place to stay for a few days. Excellent camp kitchen with big open fireplace, huge polished table, double sink with tank water. Heaps of firewood available. Septic toilets, very clean. No showers but we used a big pot in the camp kitchen to boil water for bucket showers. Really enjoyed our time. We found lots of little gems just specking around the camp. Also we did some fossicking for gems at the Billabong Blue Fossicking Area and found loads of nice gems. The owner Bill was very helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend spending the day fossicking, or longer camping out there.
Jeff J — Google review
You will find gems here. Good fun going through the fossiking process. Gary on site was very helpful. $20 per person. Bring water and food if staying for a while. We were there for 3 hrs. Store affiliated with this place is in town at the Tourist Info Centre. Plenty of nice gems and jewellery to purchase. Only open Sunday and any rain through the week and it won't open on the weekend. Make sure to always call first as it's 30 min drive from Inverell.
Jade L — Google review
I'm only giving this 3 stars, as I rang to stay, on a weekend. I got there and it was closed on the day I told the lady I was coming. They may have had an issue. Perhaps I needed to yell out, but it looked quiet. I ended up going into Inverell. But I've heard it's a great place to camp and fossick. And I'm hoping on my next trip up nth, in a week's time, I get to stay.

Amazing!! I visited for the first time from the Gold Coast with my two daughters and mother Just before Christmas.. we stayed in a deluxe Cabin for 4 Nights and it was excellent! Incredibly friendly, family owned and operated park. I would highly recommend visiting Green Valley Farm if you have not been before. Especially if you want to escape the city and enjoy a country style Theme park with loads of Animals, Rides and Slides and best of all enjoy the friendly and welcoming reception from all the staff working there.. we loved it that much we will be returning again soon. Thanks again Cathy and team 😊
Neil H — Google review
Green valley farm is such a special place - you’ll only really understand the magic once you’ve gone! Family owned and run, this place is a hidden little gem in such a beautiful location! There is the option to either camp or stay in a cabin (air conditioned/heated), the scenery is pure Australian bush, the park has its own little cafe that makes the best thick shakes!, a cute little farm experience with animals, and lots of little rides around the park. The entire vibe of the place really emphasises good old fashion innocent family fun. My family have been going for 20 years and will continue to go for another 20
Hannah S — Google review
Loved the museum so much diversity and a cool layout, somthing for everyones interests also free access before park at a friendly $15. The park has a great assortment of quality old style ride equipment, that even teenagers can enjoy. And variety of animals to see and feed.
Alexandra W — Google review
We stayed at Green Valley Farm over the long weekend and had a fantastic time from start to finish. Right from our first communication, Kathy went out of her way to accommodate our large family and make sure everything was perfect for us. The farm itself is absolutely beautiful, and with five kids, we were never short of things to do. The holiday cabin was small but felt surprisingly spacious and comfortable, with a kitchen that had just what we needed without feeling cluttered. All the staff were lovely and so friendly — it really made the stay extra special. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to provide a little map or guide around the property. On our first day, we weren’t quite sure where everything was, and we didn’t realise we could walk through the “private area” to see the animals until we saw others doing it. The prices throughout the farm were fantastic, too. Even the coffee was reasonably priced — standard prices, not inflated like you sometimes find at holiday spots. We would absolutely love to return one day and do it all over again!
Katy R — Google review
It was cool, it was quirky and I love the history and story of GVF & how it's all family ran. We camped for 3 nights but I feel as though there just weren't enough amenities for all the campers & powered sites were a bit on top of each other. My 17 & 15yos weren't allowed to supervise my 10yo while I prepped lunch and dinner & nursed an injured foot but the teens were allowed at enter on their own. The kiosk food was the BEST takeaway we've eaten in a long time. As a family we rate GVF 3 out of 5 stars.

2nd time here for a weekend ADV bike event, this place is a well oiled machine and it shows, everyone that runs the place put in a pretty good effort from Fri night to sun morning everything is taken care of and all facilities are tip top absolutely nothing to complain about at all .. Awesome location awesome staff and the food (i was never hungry) keep up the good work see you next year 🙏

WOW! What an Amazing place! Our first time to Green Valley Farm was for the Adventure Moto Dirty Weekend Event 2025 and we had a Cracker of a time. The camping grounds and facilities were 10 out of 10. I highly recommend this place for families and events. Well done to everyone involved in running this farm 👏

Bit of fun for an hour of 2 to go and listen to owner and distillery Stephen and his anecdotes about Gin and his history in the film industry. The gins are pretty good, and buying by the bottle is not too badly priced for a boutique place. Walked in and didn't know what to expect but wirh a group of 10 it was a bit of fun and pretty cheap tasting prices.

Great distillery about 15 kilometres from Uralla. A great range of award winning whiskey and gins. Also a great place for a meal and a couple drinks.
Paul H — Google review
Wow! This place is amazing! Went not knowing what to expect, but left with raving reviews. Tina was amazing and so knowledgeable throughout the taste testing. Then we moved on to lunch and cocktails and well…. This is where I experienced the BEST cocktail I’ve ever had in my life! And the food was to match. Not only that, but the service was next to none and learning about the story of how Dobsons came to be was just as interesting. Only wish I lived closer so I could visit regularly!
Natalie C — Google review
For more than five years, since my best friend Ben gifted me a bottle of Dobson's New England Dry Gin for my birthday before COVID, I have wanted to visit this beautiful distillery. It truly is a fantastic destination in the New England region. A huge thank you to Tina, who patiently and passionately introduced the entire range of gins, vodkas, and whiskies. Naturally, I had to purchase one of each gin and whisky for my collection. A special thanks to Couscous, the house cat, for entertaining my girls, allowing my wife and I to enjoy the tasting in an ultra-stylish and creative environment. We look forward to coming back towards the end of the year to restock our collection.

Best way to spend Easter Sunday!!! We have never done a tasting and had no idea what to expect, but this was awesome Steven was awesome with his passion knowledge and stories as where Lyn and his staff and the Gin was next level. An we left with a small haul of products, And the distillery cat was a real cutie.

Gin distillery . Cool spot with great tastings. Just off the main road from Armidale - Tamworth. $2 tastings and plenty of gin variants to try. They also have a restaurant here. Parking is limited . Staff friendly. We needed up buying 3 bottles of sweet pea for $80 each. A bit novel
Gary L — Google review
Great hidden gem offering gin, vodka and whiskeys that are fantastic and well explained. You can even get beers here brewed onsite but not available elsewhere - so there is something for everyone!! Make sure you book in advance for lunches because they’re often booked out - lovely view out over a green outlook. The team is great and you can buy some takeaway bottles of the best choices!

So much to see, and well worth the price of admission, cool books related to the exhibits and lovely staff as well. I was expecting to spend half an hour or so here and found myself looking for nearly 2 hours! Definitely worth checking out if you find yourself curious on the local history of this area :)

Great volunteers, wonderful display of the life and death of Captain Thunderbolt (Fred Ward). Other displays were the history of the mill and gold rush. The museum was on three floors, and it was made easier by a chair list between floors. very interesting place to visit. Allow plenty of time so much to see.Well done to all the volunteers who do a great job
Janet H — Google review
Interesting old flour mill, with lots of exhibits over two levels. It was great that they have installed chair lifts, and also provide a wheelchair, so it is totally accessible. Very nice food. And the series of paintings about Thunderbolt's last start was particularly interesting.
Elizabeth B — Google review
Wonderful display of local history, including the demise of bushranger Captain Thunderbolt, all told in an interesting and often entertaining way, a huge credit to the volunteers of Uralla. The lace collection was amazing. I would also recommend visitors to Uralla get a copy of 'Find Charm in Uralla' from the information centre and do the guided walk.

Amazing displays of days gone by.We enjoyed our time and thankyou to Anne the lady who was a very informative and friendly volunteer. Sitting in the garden under the wisteria was a relaxing time as well.Loved the artwork displayed.
Pamela E — Google review
The fire was very warm and the place is fascinating. Definitely worth at least one visit. So much history and so well presented and the storytelling on each display is very worth reading. Don't miss out.
Sandy W — Google review
I'm not usually one for museums, but this one is fabulous. The local stories are set individually in sections across three storeys of the amazing old flour mill. Just to wander through the building itself is marvellous. Story settings on aboriginal, bushranger, world war, shearing, farming, craft work, old fire engines & carts, family history themes, etc. And the cricket bat exhibit had us giggling! $5 per concession holder & it took us a very casual hour as we read the stories that interested either of us. For the bobbin lace enthusiast, there is an extensive display both on view & in large, pull out display drawers. This museum really is a credit to all the people involved - likely volunteers. So we hope younger locals value their heritage & help out.

Saumarez Homestead

Mentioned on

$$$$affordable
Historical landmark
Saumarez Homestead, located near Armidale airport, is a remarkable two-story Edwardian mansion with thirty rooms. Built between 1888 and 1906, it holds historical significance as the former residence of the White family. The property encompasses 16 buildings on 10 hectares of land, including stables, a milking shed, and a blacksmith's shop.
We had a beautiful walk through the gardens for nearly an hour and then an hour tour. Definitely worth $15 each as it’s hard to see such amazing places without the dedicated work of the volunteers. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the property and its history. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend it if you enjoy seeing how people lived in the past and this family was very privileged and wealthy!!

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. Our guide was so informative and there was so much history to take in. Mary's garden was delightful too. Great place for a picnic.

Beautiful house in incredible condition. Our guides were lovely and very passionate about the house and it’s history. You must book in advance. Very worth it. Enjoyed it very much.
Valery J — Google review
An interesting place, well set up for school groups I imagine. The location the original squatter who owned most of the Tablelands set up their house. It has fantastic gardens that are well maintained and the house itself is still set up as it was 100 years ago.
Scott — Google review
While the homestead could have some restoration dollars spent on it and the garden definately needs work, this is an extraordinary time capsule of a wealthy but parsimonious (read Presbyterian) family's home life. Not to be missed by any visitor to Armidale. The house is only accessible by guided 1.5 hour tour but it is worth the time and the $12.00 The White family handed it (and the 20 odd acres it sits on) over to the National Trust and left. Everything was left behind, even the spectacular silver hair brushes, books, family pictures and family Bible. Didn't have time to get down to the farming sheds but assume that is equally interesting. Don't miss it. If you want to see the gardens and farming sheds and are going for the 3.30pm tour, make sure you arrive at least an hour beforehand to do so. No time after the tour.
Steven H — Google review
Only got to do the garden today, am very impressed indeed. I had a fall on a spot where water has run and made a trench. Very happy to such beautiful old plants.
Marian S — Google review
The gardens at Saumarez are amazing, especially Mary's, which is maintained by Jarrod the friendly gardner. Inside the house is a time capsule full of significant historical masterpieces of its time, and Lez the property manager was a warm-hearted welcoming man with extensive knowledge. If you love exquisite antiques, ambience, bygone architecture and the highest standard of customer service, then this estate is not to be missed whilst visiting Armidale !!!

Stunning Edwardian NTrust house filled the White family's original furniture & posessions. A wonderful place where you can step back in time and learn a bit of local history from the knowledgeable tour guides. You can also wander around the extensive grounds.

Stayed at this free camp a night, get there, early could get busy. Beautiful view over duck ponds and golf course. Bbqs available and clean toilets, no showers. Quick walk into main street, bowls club over the road has food. Go to the car museum, only $2 entry. Cute little town.

We stopped here to use the dump point after having been off grid camping for a few days. The dump point was very accessible next to the toilet block, clean & neat with a hose pipe connected to a tap right next to the dump point for easy cleaning. A great facility!

Free camping. Close to the shops and cafes of Guyra and a lovely walk around the reserve. You are very close the the bowling club with two local supermarkets in town to stock up. Toilets and pump out available. Go check out the old station which has been kept fresh and the museum too. Currently the Lagoon is chockers with bird life now the Lagoon is full of water again. Come check it out especially at golden hour for all you budding photographers and it's awesome when the most and fog roll in. Sooo good to see it wet and wild.

Beautiful wetland, and you can walk for about 2km around the edge. We saw a huge variety of water birds, not just ducks but swans and ibises as well.

Loved this free camping spot. A stroll to public toilets but the camping area remained illuminated throughout the night. Clean drinking water also close by. Be aware the area was chilly in February being so high up.

Amazing gallery! Actually SIX galleries in one! I particularly liked the photography section. We were greeted by a lovely lady that explained to us all the different parts of the gallery. Do yourself a favour!

Wow! This is a gem of an art gallery, how lucky Armidale is to have it. The Hinton collection is very impressive, featuring some of the biggest names in early 20th century Australian Art such as Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts, Nora Heysen, Margaret Preston, and Ethel Spowers. I also enjoyed the temporary exhibitions. The always impressive Art Express was on display today, and a range of other contemporary Australian artists. They also were advertising a range of workshops for kids and adults running throughout the year. The cafe is lovely too, and there's a well curated gift shop for buying a souvenir or two.

Ohh Coffee is so good and the food is to die for. The food is also unique! There's variety in the menu that you don't see in many other cafes in Armidale. Love that they are open on Sundays and the outdoor seating in the sun with a beautiful view and calm surroundings

Nice museum with quality artwork, good ambience, and an enjoyable cafe attached for after your visit. And of course a gift shop, with interesting artifacts and prints. This visit they had an exhibit from the collection of Howard Hilton featuring very interesting paintings of Australian and International topics, a Ken Done exhibition, plus assorted contemporary works including some amazing water colours. Entrance is free, and you can make a donation by tap-and-go to support the museum. Also check out the various sculptures spread outside the museum and cafe!

The Armidale Visitor Information Centre offers a variety of experiences for first-time visitors, including the Armidale Heritage Bus Tour that takes you on a two-hour journey through the city's history, gardens, churches, and museums. The center also provides fishing permits for those interested in watersports at the nearby dam where activities like canoeing, kayaking, and swimming can be enjoyed. Additionally, visitors can join a free bus tour starting from the center with knowledgeable guides providing insightful commentary.
The staff here were very helpful. I also did the heritage tour which was excellent and I would highly recommend. Sue, our guide, was very knowledgeable and the 3hr tour flew by. Definitely worth doing as you would not see or hear of the history of Armidale if it wasn’t for this tour. 👍👍

My first stop in Armidale was the information centre— lots of local information and friendly advice about the region and roads. Plenty of parking too. Next to fuel & food. Clean toilets, BBQ, kids playground nearby.

We went on their free heritage bus tour. Our tour guide was an older, long-term resident of Armidale. Very knowledgeable. We drove by lots of historical buildings. Most importantly, we were allowed into Booloominbah Historical Settler House in the University of New England, which is now used as an administration building at the university. This is the only way you can get into that house. Highly recommended. We gave a donation after the tour. The people inside the visitor center were also very helpful with advice.

The Armidale Visitors Centre really is a must! We were warmly greeted by Faye, who has lived in Armidale for a very long time as we found out, and who is a wealth of information in and around the area. The experience was very much like discovering treasure with what we were provided. Not just on what to see but the history as well. We were able to tailor our own touring experience with the information provided and can not thank Faye enough! I heard locally about the council possibly replacing people in the information centre with machines. I hope this never happens. We have had experiences with information machines, they never give you exactly what your looking for, they can't tell you about the treasures you might be interested in but don't know there there, or which way to go to get the maximum visits in areas depending on when they are open. Faye made it a breeze, and we will have to come back as there was far too much to do and see in one day. Thank you again for the experience, education, information, and your warm, friendly nature Faye, you are a gem!

This for a small country town was outstanding . The choices and grade of stock better than 99% of city businesses and it's. Obvious the proprietors are hard working intelligent thoughtful fair and honest traders. Their business morals are obvious unlike in the city where lieing and cheating your clients are the Short term answers. The don't work for long so in the city u blame others and backstab and betray. It's 2 years since being in this store and my pleasant experience stays with me . 99% of my life in the city is featured by betrayal backstabbing and lies .

Wilderness area with bushwalking tracks, a campground, a striking waterfall & a shelter with BBQs.
Beautiful area for a stop on the way between Ebor and Armidale. great facilities with toilets, BBQ's and picnic tables. Did the 2km round trip to chandler falls lookout, was a rocky track just take it easy on the little down hill spots. One of the lookouts is only 200m from the car park so if you don't have the time for the walk you can still stop in for a quick look at the Falls.
Daniel R — Google review
Highly recommend doing the walk to Wollomonbi falls lookout! The views are wild (photos do not do them justice) 🏔️🌊 It's a very short walk from the carpark to the first lookout. The walk then continues to the base of the falls and then 2 more lookouts which are a bit further and uphill / downhill.

Amazing views of water falls and gouge. Incredible natural beauty. Beat when it's rains, water falls are awesome to see. So high, great walking tracks to see best lookouts. Walks are reasonable for most levels of fitness and suitable for children with supervision.

Pups and Park Rangers, New England National Park is a 5-Paw WOW-ZER! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ryder here, and wow-wow-wubbzy, New England National Park is PAW-SOME! Just say, "Ryder needs you, New England National Park!" and the PAW Patrol will be there - because this place is incredible! From the tippy-top of Point Lookout, the views are like, whoa! You can see everything! It's like Adventure Bay, but bigger and with even more trees! We used our pup-tags to zoom in and spot so many cool birds – bright blue ones, fluffy white ones, even some that sounded like they were laughing! Pup-tag zoom vision is the best for nature exploring! The walking tracks are super fun adventures! We hiked to waterfalls that were splash-tastic! Marshall even managed to stay dry for once (almost!). There are trails for every pup, big or small, and even some that are a bit challenging for extra adventure! Just be sure to bring your pup treats and water, Adventure Bay style! And the best part? It's full of amazing animals! We saw wallabies hopping around like they were in a bouncy castle, and so many colourful butterflies fluttering by! It's like a real-life jungle adventure, right here in New England! We even helped a little lost joey find its mum – teamwork makes the dream work! New England National Park is the perfect place for pups and people who love adventure and nature! It’s clean, it’s beautiful, and it’s got something for everyone! No job is too big, no pup is too small to have an amazing time at New England National Park! Definitely a 5-paw recommendation from Ryder and the PAW Patrol! Let’s go, go, go explore!

We walked half way down the gorge, a pretty steep track in places, but when we got to where wanted stop, the view was spectacular

Super easy to get to, and the views? Absolutely worth it. Just a friendly PSA for future visitors—or let’s say, a rant against the peeps that were present while we were there: this isn’t your private festival stage. Cranking EDM at 11 a.m. isn’t the vibe—people come here for tranquility, not to relive Coachella on a cliffside.

A must stop between the coast and Armidale. The falls and valley are pretty awesome and well worth having a look at. The infrastructure is really good, bbqs, sheltered picnic areas, and a fantastic walkway linking several viewing points over the falls and valley. All only a minute off the highway.

The Ebor Falls was magnificent and simply beautiful to see. The facilities here were clean and they have a flushing toilet which is a great luxury when you are travelling around the countryside. They had several covered gazebos to get out of the sun and take a break. The facilities were pretty new and everything was ship shape and Bristol fashion. Definitely worth a stop here if you’re passing through. Only a short drive off the main road.

Point Lookout in Ebor is a must-visit if you’re on the Waterfall Way. It’s like stepping back in time to medieval Europe, especially with all the fog – gives it a real mystical vibe. Just a tip: it can get pretty nippy, so pack a warm jacket. Definitely worth the detour for the views and the feels.

The drive was beautiful, sadly we couldn't go to the lookout or the walks as the road at the moment isn't 2wd friendly. If you're planing to go after rain, an all wheel drive or 4wd will probably be needed

A humbling and spectacular view east from an easily accessible location. Dangar Falls is a stunning 30-meter waterfall located in a wooded setting, featuring a viewing platform, parking area, and picnic tables. The track to the falls starts with a yellow sign 2km north of the Dorrigo township and leads to a lookout platform offering excellent views of the falls as they plunge over a basalt wall into the Bielsdown River. Visitors can also enjoy swimming at this picturesque spot.
Great spot for a cool dip. A very pretty waterfall and although not massively high, it’s a nice walk down. Best of all, this walk and falls is dog friendly. There aren’t picnic areas down the bottom, but you could grab a rock and enjoy a swim. The walk down is via a well defined path and does involve steps but they aren’t step and it’s well spaced out. The viewing platform at the top has a picnic area, toilets and a playground. All dog friendly.

Dangar Falls is a 30m waterfall conveniently located an easy 30-minute drive from Bellingen and about 2.5km from Dorrigo town. The facilities at the top, near the car park, are very well-managed. There is ample public parking, a children's play area, clean public toilets, and available rubbish bins. A coffee van is also on-site, providing a convenient option for visitors. A well-constructed viewing platform offers a fantastic, direct perspective of the waterfall. The walk to the base of the falls is pleasant and takes about 20 minutes along a fully paved path, making it highly accessible. The area at the bottom is a pristine spot, ideal for photography and enjoying the natural scenery. From the base, the Dangar Falls Lodge can be seen nearby on the left. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Dorrigo area. Its great facilities and accessibility make it a must-see attraction for families, couples, and nature lovers.

There's a viewing platform up top opposite Falls to get photos, trail 20 minutes to bottom - not accessible friendly. To swim - take photos (unfortunately closed since 13/5/25 due to tree falling on decking). Near the viewing platform there is male/ female/ accessible toilets, BBQ area, open space for dogs, labyrinth - 3 mins walk, plenty of parking - accessible friendly car park - viewing platform. Playground equipment. Thankyou for reading our review, please click on like or follow us as a local guide. ©️ #Wozzellocalguide #wozz #wozzel Photographer 2025. A Free review with No charge.

The drive there, from the Pacific Highway, offer great views. The walk to the base of the fall, and back, is not hard. There is a viewing platform and toilet accessible for wheelchair.

Cracking spectacle even with a moderate flow. Easy parking. No tickets needed. Viewing platform and walkway down to the falls. 20 minutes walk down and 30 back up. Walkway is not steep except near the falls. Good shoes needed.

A really pretty waterfall very close to the town There is a walkway to the bottom of the falls which is a little steep and uneven but there were some people in the pool at the bottom of the falls and under the cascade Others were sitting in the middle of the river above the waterfall There is also a small labyrinth track and some walking trails to enjoy There are some explanations of the history on signs which I found interesting

Beautiful little waterfall. When I went there in July, the water was cold. Would be Lovely in summer. There's a small coffee place nearby. The tracks were broken. But we were able to cross it. Hope they fix it soon

Dorrigo National Park, a part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, is a breathtaking destination that showcases millions of years of natural beauty. The park boasts diverse forest environments that provide a sanctuary for a wide array of wildlife, including red-necked pademelons and vibrant bird species like the wompoo fruit-dove and regent bowerbird.
Amazing views and great bushwalk. The walk to the waterfalls is very nice and kids friendly too. The path is paved and it has a gentle slope You can't miss the crystal waterfalls and crossing the small bridge. Loads of wildlife around and amazing to see Lyrebirds in the wild, just 1m away from us.

We walked from the Visitors Centre to The Glade and back late in the afternoon. Not too many people and a great array of rainforest birds, including several displaying Superb Lyrebirds, Noisy Pitta, Logrunner, Wompoo Fruit-dove and Green Catbird, plus an Echidna. The Visitors Centre has a good display and an excellent gift shop, but the cafe is closed.

A beautiful park , sunrise boardwalk is one of the highlights of this park . There are no entry fee but A$2 donation to support the national park so please carry some gold coin for a good cause . There are two nice waterfalls and one waterfall is accessible to play in the waters . Great place to visit.

Beautiful day trip location. Walking track was sealed and a fairly easy walk. Enjoyed the tour on offer also. Picturesque views and tranquil picnic spot.

Dorrigo NP is well worth a visit to experience the ancient forests. We found there was time in a day to do both the sub-tropical Wonga walk to the beautiful Crystal Springs waterfall and a section of the Blackbutt temperate forest walk. As well as a picnic at the Glade and a loiter around the information centre. All up a wonderful day. The forests are amazing, especially the Titanic-sized fallen giants along the Blackbutt trail.

A great parkland, but not at its best at the moment. Unfortunately the Cafe and a loop of the rainforest walk were closed. It will be great again once these things are restored.

Dorrigo National Park is a breathtaking natural wonder that offers visitors an unforgettable experience in the heart of a World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforest. Located just an hour from Coffs Harbour, this park feels like stepping into another world. The park's crown jewel is undoubtedly the Crystal Shower Falls, a stunning waterfall that you can actually walk behind. The Skywalk Lookout provides panoramic views stretching all the way to the coast, offering a unique perspective of the lush rainforest canopy. For nature enthusiasts, the Wonga Walk is a must-do. This 6.6 km loop takes you through subtropical rainforest, past 600-year-old trees, and the beautiful Tristania and Crystal Falls. The park is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with chances to spot colorful species like the wompoo fruit-dove and the regent bowerbird. The Dorrigo Rainforest Centre is an excellent starting point for your visit. It offers informative exhibits, a café, and access to various walking tracks. Don't miss the opportunity to take a ranger-guided tour to gain deeper insights into this ancient ecosystem. Whether you're looking for scenic picnic spots, challenging hikes, or simply a place to reconnect with nature, Dorrigo National Park delivers on all fronts. It's a testament to the raw beauty of Australia's natural heritage and a place that will leave you in awe of the wonders of the rainforest. Enjoy it!

Bowraville Folk Museum

Art Museums
An extensive display of vintage goods, collected over 50+ years. Very well displayed and interesting collection variety. Enter through a small door to discover a Labrinth over levels including interactive machinery display that the kids loved, rocks and minerals, blacksmithing and a vintage car. Friendly and knowledgeable staff make the visit memorable. Allow at least an hour to see it all.

This is a quaint little store in a very quiet town. There are gifts here for everyone, definitely worth a look. The whole town is set well off the highway but it is worth exploring. Parking is a little bit limited, but there are cafes near by for you to sit and enjoy after you've bought some goodies.

This would have to be one of the best regional museums I have been to. Situated on the main street, the museum is spread over several buildings. Each grouping is based around a themed area. For example there is a room devoted to a turn of last century bedroom. There is an old barbers shop. A mock up of a laundry, a school room. Each area then has a heap of items relating to that theme. Moving out of the main building you go into a covered courtyard which has stacks of garage, pub and agricultural exhibits. For me the highlight is the push button connection whereby you press a button and the machine comes to life showing you how it would have worked. Beyond the courtyard is an old original Church which is full of religious memorabilia. Do not go here expecting a quick walk through. I stayed for an hour and could easily have stayed for much longer.

One of the best museums I have seen. Give yourself sometime to spend at this place, as there's plenty to see. The nice lady at the reception was very kind & shared plenty of information with us. Ticket price was very cheap so were the gifts. That made me feel a bit guilty for paying so less. Haha!
Chandrika V — Google review
Really good experience! So many artefacts from a variety of time periods! There's something for everyone with everything from clothing to machinery. I was particularly interested in how the advertising and packaging of products has changed over time!

Exhibits in the Bowraville Folk Museum cover almost every area of folk life in the Nambucca Valley. Some of our more significant displays include a log cabin inhabited by an early pioneer family, the local Presbyterian Church which was relocated to the grounds of the museum and the Boarding House set from the locally filmed The Umbrella Woman which featured Bryan Brown, Rachel Ward and Sam Neill. There is also a working Blacksmith’s Forge and several other items of working machinery plus an extensive display of everyday items from our local area. The fascinating museum building was originally a General Store and was then the Headquarters of the Voluntary Defence Corps during World War 2. It continued to operate a Department Store until the Museum opened in 1970. There is a large collection of newspaper clippings, the most famous from the London Gazette Friday August 19, 1768 with an article about a secret voyage by Captain James Cook. It's a great read. Copies are available for $5.50. The Eve Knight collection lapidary collection features a large range of rocks, crystals & glowing rocks. A Children's Museum is also on the site where they are encouraged to explore the objects on display.

Went here on a Saturday night and got one of 2 tables on the mezzanine floor. The 4 of us shared a couple of wines and 2 stonkingly good pizza - a Bianca funghi and a prosciutto. The bases were authentic Italian style and the head pizza dude was excellent and informative. The place also has some great house beers along with a relaxed, laid back vibe and decor.

Good Beer, expensive prices. This place has a very nice vibe to it. The beers, in general, are pretty good. The music is very nice with a nice selection. The pizzas are pretty good, but it felt Sydney prices for the pizza around 30 dollars. If you are looking for a good cold beer, this is the place.

Staff were amazing, very accommodating and friendly, going out of their way to assist us and great with our kids. Pizza was good; limited choice but covered off the classics and delicious sauces. Nice choice of quality beers and wines. Venue had a great vibe but pretty small so felt a bit packed in, but not uncomfortably. Will go again when next in Bellingen.

Perfect pizzas in a relaxed and laid back space. Subdued lighting and super friendly staff. We came several times during our week in Bello. Loved the chilli prawn pizza ! The chef who makes the pizza dough is brilliant. And cooked to perfection in the big wood fired oven by attentive staff. Excellent all round. Beers team up very nicely. Also loved the Smoked Lips cocktail - based on chilli infused mezcal - yum. There are others too for non-chilli people ! Highly recommend.

This place was amazing. The best wood fired pizza I have ever had. Especially the Fungi pizza. Expect a 40 minute wait for 🍕 but at the same time sit back and relax with a selection of cocktails. My favourite was the Margarita. The ambiance was perfect with local live acts playing. Let your hair down at this perfect place suitable for adults and kids to enjoy. If you're visiting Bellingen this is a must-place to visit

My wife rang in advance to enquire if we could bring our dog to the brewery. Ladette on the phone said no worries your dog in welcome in our outside seating area. We drove over 2 hours to visit the establishment for our lovely relatives birthday dinner however, on arrival we where told to tie our dog up out the front in the garden and then we where welcome, then blamed the local council! Rude! Our dog is more important than the semolina ridden floor of this building and the pub next door was very accommodating. Will not come back, not even for DJ Daddy long legs!!

This is a must visit shop in Bellingen! You can easily be there for +1 hour looking at all the little details, from decoration to cookbooks, hats, jewelry, essential oils, rocks, music, everything! I really like the atmosphere and quirkiness of some of the items in their selection. The have great cookbooks that I haven’t seen anywhere else, lovely stories for kids, many sets of cards, journals, items to help you with your mindfulness journey, etc. The store is also pet friendly (obviously you have to commit to look after your flurry one), and that always makes me smile.

We ordered the lamb koftas for $24 and the toasted chicken panini $18. The place was busy and we got our food within 20 minutes. We also had the cold pressed juice, the big O and the tropi cool $8.50 each. The food was great, fresh. The drinks were also pretty good. The staff were friendly and the place was clean. There is also a spot for the kids and a good range of cakes and ice creams.

The old Butter Factory Bellingen The Old Butter Factory is a truly special place. The atmosphere is warm, rustic, and full of character — a definite 5 out of 5. The service was outstanding, with friendly and attentive staff who made us feel welcome from start to finish. That’s another solid 5 stars. The food was delicious and well-presented, earning a strong 4 out of 5. While the menu could offer a bit more variety, everything we tried was fresh and full of flavor. A standout highlight was the Cargo Lane shop. It’s beautifully curated with unique furniture, homewares, and gifts. Well worth a visit on its own. Highly recommend the Old Butter Factory for a relaxed, memorable experience.

My partner and I love visiting The Old Butter Factory Cafe whenever we’re in town. The food is amazing and the coffee is outstanding. Truly some of the best coffee we’ve ever had. The atmosphere is always lovely, and the staff are so polite, kind, and efficient. We were mostly looked after by who we suspect is the owner/manager, and he was such a pleasure! Very friendly, talkative, and made us feel so welcome. Highly recommend!

A special thank you to Dan, who was incredibly helpful and personal throughout the planning process. Nothing was too much trouble, and every detail was taken care of beautifully. Everything we needed was right there — we truly couldn’t have asked for more. It was a wonderful day and a celebration to remember. Highly recommend The Old Butter Factory for any special occasion!

Wall was amazing great to see all the painting on the rocks. Not quite sure who and why they were painted. There were memorial plagues of people that had passed away which was a little confronting but all good. Fishing there was pretty ordinary really, the current was really strong tide going out and even when it started to come back in the afternoon it was still quite strong. Lots of snags in the water so lost a few lines and jigs trying the wall. Would recommend to check out the tide before you go and attempt the wall. No one else caught anything either in several hours. Overall though it is a beautiful spot for a picnic a quick swim etc. Recommend visit if your in Nambucca Heads for sure.

Great place to walk wall and lots of interesting rocks. You can also break the walk by taking the side track across to Shelley Beach. A further side track takes to Wellington which can make a circuit. You have to back track from Shelley a short while. The wall is an easy 3.6km walk along foreshore.

Byron Bay Bluesfest

Festival
Events
Music Festivals
Byron Bay Bluesfest is a must-visit music festival that has been captivating audiences for over 30 years. This year, attendees were treated to an incredible lineup featuring legendary acts like The Doobie Brothers and Jon Stevens, alongside high-energy performances from bands such as Infectious Grooves. The event is well-organized, ensuring a smooth experience for all festival-goers. With improvements like metallic gravel to combat mud issues and a diverse array of food options, the atmosphere remains vibrant and enjoyable.
A group of us were there for a charity event. Easy enough to get to using an uber. It took a little while to get an uber for heading back to Byron, maybe 25 minutes. It had a great laid back atmosphere. There were plenty of toilets and no real waiting at the bars. If you stay at Byron Bay it's about a 15 minute trip. It did have free parking as well.
Bit H — Google review
The Bluesfest is good…. The camping grounds I found challenging. Bit hard to judge as I came down with a rotten head cold the whole entire time. Would go to bed at our campsite approx 12am every nite after each nite of the festival performances but hard to sleep as the smell of diesel and the sound of quad bike and buggy cart motors and toilet cleaning trucks outside our tent/ campsite for an hour was tough going making it hard to sleep and recover from a cold. No shade at the campsite, burning sun pounding down despite sunscreen. No relief in the tent. Hot. Hard to get in and out of the camping grounds to go to have day trips to Byron Bay. Once your car is in the car park it’s a nightmare to get back in and park your car again. Bumper to bumper traffic on the roads in n around the camping grounds as cars in front of us were getting bogged. Very hard to find parking even though we’d booked n paid. Long walk from car park to camp site. Hellish at times. I’m being really nice giving it 4 stars and only taking 1 star off for the tough and patience testing camping and parking situation and diesel smell. I expected “Byron Bay” to be fresh air, but no. Next time if I wanna go to Bluesfest I will book accom hotel or motel in Byron Bay and catch a coach or Uber in for the music festival part.
Michelle C — Google review
Disappointed with the organization this year despite how much I love this festival! Virtually no buses, car park was chaos to get out & very dangerous crowd control (or lack of) due to the amount of chairs. Been going for 15+ years and it’s a wonderful event but it would definitely benefit from better operational planning & logistics.
Anna N — Google review
The Platinum Experience was once again an honour. The vibes were high and so many grateful happy festival goers loving every moment. How wonderful to see so many people supporting live music. Hats off to all the crew making it happen! Thank you.
Surf S — Google review
Hard to rate, bands were excellent but the crowds got a bit much. Hard to manoeuvre from tent to tent. Lots of people bitching about people with chairs but when U can't sit on gravel what else do they expect no one can stand for three days!!! Would be good if they just had pathways around the tents so people can then sit thier chairs down but also easy to move around. The buses did take over two hours wait at end of the day which was a shame but I am not sure what else.they could do except maybe keep bars open and some post last band music so people can chill out til the lines go down. Or don't have the biggest bands last...not sure. It was my first and it was quite warm the whole time so no idea what it's like when it's raining lol
Belinda M — Google review
Glamping was fantastic. Easy in easy out. No traffic jam. Great facilities. Best way to do the festival. Worth every cent!
Sara S — Google review
Worst traffic management I've ever come across. Waited two and half hours to leave the carpark after the concert. We barely moved 5 car lengths the first hour. No excuses just bad management and for the price of the tickets I would have hoped for better service
Christian P — Google review
I went to the last day and it was a blast. All the acts I saw were epic, special mention to Infectious Grooves (the main reason I went) and also Harry Manx who was amazing. They have metallic gravel now so if it were to have rained, the mud would be either reduced or perhaps non existent, so that's an improvement. Food offerings were ok, beverages outrageously priced but that's standard for festivals these days. Will go next year depending on lineup.
