Umbrawarra Gorge Nature Park

Other Outdoor Activities
Umbrawarra Gorge Nature Park is a hidden gem located just 22 kilometers from Pine Creek, making it an ideal stop for those exploring the Northern Territory. The journey to this stunning gorge involves a short gravel road that leads you to a quaint campground, perfect for an overnight stay. As you venture further along the half-paved track, you'll be greeted by breathtaking scenery characterized by striking red rock formations typical of the region.
Most people drive straight past but this is a great location for a swim. Its a 22km drive off the highway. Once there you will need to walk approx 500m on the concrete walkway followed by some walking over/through rocks to reach the swimming spots. You need a vehicle with high clearances to get through some of the crossings. Worth the deviation and should be followed by a visit to historical Pine Creek.

Came in the late dry season (September). Road still very accessible even for 2WD. Seems newy graded r kept in good nick. Campsite is great simple place to spend overnight en route to Katherine / Darwin. Gorge is beautiful and water still remains for swimming in further pool. Rock art site (women’s country) up on escarpment. Reminder to respect cultural law and not take photos or explore the restricted areas if a male.
Alice K — Google review
This place was so nice and beautiful! Great little hike to the top of the hill for morning sunrise and sunset. The water holes at the gorge was easily enough to walk towards however for elderly people I do not recommend as it can be very accident prone, our group had a few slips and falls but can easily recover from. The swimming spots were okay but isn’t something worth going back a second time for compared to other places. The camp site felt small especially when it’s full, I feel like they could definitely expand it a lot more but that isn’t a discouragement. You can end up being close to another group, and we were quite loud so sorry to the campers near by. Drop toilet was not that bad thought it would stink a lot more but it was definitely usable. Overall would recommend you to go here if you have not been yet. Loved every experience from it. Would be 5 star if the camp grounds were bigger.
Tinus C — Google review
This is such a wonder of nature, amazing to look at this time the year the water a little merky but still very inviting, the 20 km drive in not too bad as end of wet - Easter Weekend April all crossings minimal water I hear they can hold a lot of water at times; the camping area not that big so would be advised to book ahead of time, especially in the Dry I'd say. But yes we'll worthy of a look. When you get started on walks just follow the banks along and keep going till you find a spot you want to stay.
Yvonne D — Google review
Very nice but not incredible give the other swim holes around. Still had water in them thought. a good swim on a hot day for sure.
Mickael S — Google review
went in the wet season, super hot in the afternoon. camping site is far from the gorge. walk about 1km or more. water is cool but not much swimming area, just shallow. camp site has table, fire pit and compost toilet with toilet paper and tap from rainwater. fee is paid through honor system box, $4 per adult, $2 kids, $10 family. great views and nice visit overall
Shaina V — Google review
A fun little 22 km gravel road off the Stuart Highway, greats you with a rather unassuming and small camp ground. A further 1 km half-paved track and you're in a Dry season paradise.
Andrew N — Google review
It’s a amazing place, and good for beginner first time handle dirt road. The track was damage by the rain few weeks ago, few trees full down and hard to walk to the swimming spot.

Tables and toilets. No camping to protect the water suppliing Pine creek. Out of the way but a good spot to relax and take in the scenery.

Pretty spot but very overgrown. Grass is taller than me. It’s difficult to get near the waters edge. There are tables and shelters son once they slash I’m sure it will be a great spot for lunch. There are toilets here.
Alison L — Google review
Serene picnic spot off the main road. Pretty lake and surroundings, lots of bird life. Picnic tables and shade, but no toilet facilities. Recommend a 4wd as the road to the picnic area is a bit rough (unsealed) - it is off the road to Umbrawarra Gorge. Will definitely be back. 🧺

Stopped here for lunch in the park. Interesting history of the railway which used to run down here. Info boards and old restored engines made this a curiously memorable stop. The tree teeming with bats probably helped too.

A historical location In the centre of town. No ticket required but everything is locked up. This used to be the actual Pine Creek Railway Station an Post Office. The Engine was used in the Australian movie We of the never never. Sufficient car parking with toilets in the park next door.

Have to love the history of the North Australia Railway, and The Commonwealth Railway, and the struggle it must have been building such a railway in the climate and conditions they endured, particularly when it was N.A.R. It is brilliant stuff, to say the least, that someone is taking the effort to preserve that history. Well done. Keep up the good work. Five Stars.

Not as flashy as Litchfield, but great family spot, quiet and lots of shallow sandy water great for little kids.

Camp site right by river. Water is shallow and safe for kids. Temperature of water coming out of the ground is very, very hot. Lots of shady spots to sit/lay for hours - in the water and out. Lots of fire places. Lizards are friendly.

Very good...we had to walk 200 metres as the campground was closed. This meant it had no other people

One of my all time favourite places. Peaceful, beautiful and well maintained camping area.

Quiet good and well worth the trip. Water temp was just right in places.
Grant P — Google review
Loved it. Great depth for kids to swim in and campsite was pretty quiet despite being absolutely full. Not too many young yahoos like you get at the ones closer to town. Just a tip save your dish washing water in a bucket to flush the toilet. Sometimes there's not enough water. Also take plenty drinking water as the water there is only able to be used for washing not drinking unless boiled.
Jess G — Google review
Holy Cow...HOT HOT HOT Springs. Great place. Found an area that was nice and cool to enjoy a swim. Recommend going.👍

Lovely volunteer hosts during dry season. I hour movie on bombing of Darwin very insightful in how we were left to fend for ourselves by USA and UK... We should not forget that especially ATM with world affairs.
Maggie R — Google review
Locals like Jan and Sue have gone to amazing effort to get this Museum up and running. They came in especially to open up for us in the off season, we were visiting from NZ and it was well worth the effort, highly recommended if you are interested in WW2 and or the history of mining in the area.

I went with my partner on a Saturday and, forgive me if I get this wrong, Gaye was working. What a delightful human being. Batchelor Butterflyfarm

Mentioned on
2 lists
Serviced accommodation
Batchelor Butterflyfarm is a unique and colorful lodging with funky dorms, rooms, and apartments. The farm offers free Wi-Fi and has a restaurant on-site. Visitors can enjoy exploring the farm, feeding rabbits and chickens, and watching beautiful butterflies. The owner, Chris, is known for being friendly and knowledgeable about the animals. Guests can also visit the eclectic shop on the premises. The accommodation is described as affordable with a tranquil atmosphere.
We had a very relaxing day and the meal was wonderful. We were greeted by a friendly person and his smile was contages. We enjoyed feeding the rabbits and Evan sat down in the butterfly house. So nice to do something different.
Julie M — Google review
This is not for the accommodation but the 'farm' element. The main attraction is hutches of rabbits that you can feed. There were around 6-10 butterflies when we went in April. There is a croc you can see also and that is about it. Good experience for kids who can feed the rabbits but at $20 per adult it is too steep really.
Grant D — Google review
Visited the butterfly house with my children. They enjoyed feeding carrots to the bunnies and farm animals. Animals look generally healthy and well cared for. Butterflies were lovely but some of the other creatures definately steal the limelight....probably the closest you will ever get to a big live croc! The owner is an absolute legend. A one of a kind top end experience.
Google U — Google review
I drove from Litchfield NP into Batchelor with the kids to take them to the butterfly farm and animal park for a change of scenery. We turned up and thought we'd have lunch there too. Entry fee was $20per adult and $10per child with use of the pool. (The pool looked like it needed a refresh and a change of water- not very appealing) We walked up to the reception/bar where there was a sign saying to ring the bell if unattended, and a man working on a fuse box in the corner of the dining room. We rang the bell. The man didn't even look up. We waited another 5mins, also noticing a dog laying in the kitchen as we could see straight through, and rang again. Again, nobody responded and the man simply walked straight past us without even a greeting towards us and walked into the office. As we decided not to stay, a lady walked out behind us, not a word to be said to us and proceeded into another building. Needless to say, we did not stay to experience any more 'customer service'.
Monica D — Google review
Staff very welcoming. Our room was good for the price. Only issue we had in family room was that there was no hot water in the morning.
Janelle L — Google review
Unique and amazing. Friendly service and the most amazing curries! Delicious food worth stopping for.
Cris B — Google review
Farm visit very underwhelming. Not worth $20/adult. The place is quirky for sure and the staff / owner were kind and delightful. Clearly love their home and space. We thought we were coming to see some butterfly and didn't realise the farm animals were part of the deal. Their enclosures were fine, not very manicured and seemed to be alot of dusty mud in a very tropical environment. Stop in for a drink at the bar and a chat with the locals but keep on going after that.
Noni S — Google review
**this is not a review of the accommodation- simply the "butterfly farm" I really wanted to like this place and wasn't going to leave a review, however we visited this place last week in the dry season and also saw maybe 2 butterflies, and I'd noticed in other responses the owner has put the lack of butterflies down to being wet season however it is now dry season and seems to be the same issue. If there's no butterflies thats fine, but it shouldn't be advertised as a butterfly farm- I grew up on a farm and if I wanted to see goats, pigs and rabbits I would have stayed at home- we did the 2 hour round trip souly to see butterflies so it was disappointing. It also had a very un maintained, dirty dusty feel about the entry/eating area... I hadn't eaten all day and was planning to eat after we had finished our walk around, but it just didnt seem clean at all to me so we didn't eat- again I get the "it's darwin" vibe, but just because its Darwin doesnt mean it cant be clean. We also felt slighty uncomfortable/ surprised when we were greated with the older man behind the counter with no shirt on, and then bumped in to him wandering around in nothing but a towel. I get the laid back Darwin vibe, but it's a business and it seems highly inappropriate, especially as we were there with a family with young girls. Honestly the whole place gave me Tiger King vibes and it did make me slightly uncomfortable all round, I will however give the benefit of the doubt and visit again in a few weeks with visiting family and hopefully there are more butterflies and old mate finds his shirt...

Tolmer Falls

Park
Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
Popular swimming destination featuring a deep plunge pool & cascading waterfalls.
The trail leading to the lookout is well-maintained and accessible, providing a pleasant walk through the vibrant flora of the park. Along the way, you might spot unique wildlife, including various bird species and the occasional wallaby. The sound of rushing water adds to the serene atmosphere, creating a perfect backdrop for photography enthusiasts. While swimming is not permitted in the pool due to the presence of endangered bat colonies in the surrounding caves, the views alone are captivating enough to warrant a visit. The area is also an excellent spot for picnicking, allowing you to soak in the scenery while enjoying a meal amidst nature. Tolmer Falls is best visited during the wet season when the flow is at its peak, but even in the dry season, the sight is impressive. Overall, it’s a must-see destination for anyone exploring Litchfield National Park, offering a tranquil escape and a chance to connect with the stunning natural environment of Northern Territory. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a nature lover, or just looking for a picturesque spot to unwind, Tolmer Falls will leave a lasting impression.

Giant waterfall in Litchfield national park. No way to hike down to the waterfall though.
David C — Google review
Beautiful falls! And wonderful track to walk! Not too long and not too challenging. The water flowing at the top of the waterfall was absolutely beautiful. I recommend!
Nea B — Google review
Open all year round. In the middle of Litchfield road🚶‍♀️Access: there are 3 walks. The 1st is going to the lookout, wheelchair/pram friendly but can be challenging. 5min walk, nothing much to do. The 2nd is lower look out, 10mins,flat but not so wheelchair friendly. Nothing much to do. The 3rd is a nice walk along the creek, not difficult but there are a lot of steps and rocks. Approx 40mins. Worth doing, very picturesque. 🏊‍♂️ No swimming spot at all. It's a protected area with endangered species. 🚽Clean toilet + toilet paper + non potable water is available but bring your own handwashing liquid. 📶No signal, download offline map, but you won't get lost as there is only 1 road in and out of Litchfield, there are signages around. 🚗 Plenty of carpark as there are not many people hang around in this area, they usually spend less than an hour here. 🍔No stall, bring your own food and drinking water. 🚮 No rubbish bin inside the national park, carry your own rubbish bin and bring it back home.
Line S — Google review
One of my favourite spots. Would be unreal if it was accessible, without being disrespectful. Looks like there’s great cliff jumps for those game. But even just to observe this place feels special

Buley Rockhole (car park)

Nature preserve
Nature & Parks
Well-known swimming destination featuring shallow pools of water & cascading waterfalls.
Buley rockhole is a series of rock pools that cascade down the river. It is a hidden oasis from the heat just a short walk from the carpark and picnic area. Access can be a bit tricky as there is no man-made entry to the water so care needs to be taken both entering and leaving the water in each rockpool. We swam at the beginning of the dry season so the water was still flowing and deep in some pools. The water level is seasonal and in the dry the rock pools can become isolated and stagnant not safe for swimming.
Louise T — Google review
Gorgeous spot for a cool off on a hot day. The main pool is deep enough to jump into from the edge. Water is so refreshing and clear. As a mature woman with not so flexible knees these days, I did find it difficult to enter and exit the pools without assistance. There are no rails to hold onto, and I doubt it would be a worthwhile exercise installing rails to enter and exit the pools. It's an easy walk from the carpark to the pools. Just be mindful that it's a rocky walk. Not accessible for wheelchairs.
Jennifer R — Google review
Buley Rockhole offers a quiet, calming contrast to the nearby Florence Falls — perfect for a more relaxed dip either before or after visiting the main plunge pool. It’s conveniently located on the same route, making it a great stopover. The stream gently flows downhill, forming a series of cascading rock pools connected like natural steps. You can relax in any of them, though the lower pools tend to be more popular. The water is deep in parts, which makes it ideal for floating with a pool noodle or even jumping in from the rock ledges. It’s a peaceful spot to unwind, soak in the beauty of nature, and enjoy the cool, clear waters in a more low-key setting. A wonderful stop in Litchfield that feels both refreshing and serene.
Helen N — Google review
One of my favourite spots on our 12000km trip. Beautiful swimming holes. Don’t expect privacy if a tour group arrives or personal space. It disappoints me the way groups can take over a space with little regard to others. A reminder too that it is a NO SMOKING area. It is a magical spot and a must do! Super easy walk from carpark.
200 V — Google review
What an amazing spot!! I came here in the afternoon on a weekday and it was fairly quiet, only a couple other people around so was able to have a pool to ourselves!! Definitely recommend visiting, NT keeps surprising me over and over again
Melly F — Google review
My favorite swimming spot. Perfect water temperature with plenty of different pools to enjoy. No complaints here!
Kate C — Google review
Stunning cascading waterfalls, small and inviting for all ages groups. Shallow and deep water holes. Clean well maintained walk to waters edge
Michelle S — Google review
This place is a gorgeous little waterhole and has a series of small waterfalls that you can lounge in. The rocks are smooth due to the amount of water that flows through, but this also makes them very slippery! Be careful! The carpark is a decent size, there are toilets and change rooms and there are covered tables and chairs. The Ranger was present and blowing down the seating area - good to see someone patrolling and maintaining the area. There are camp grounds, but you do need to book online to stay the night and I think you may need a permit to access the park, please check the NT Parks and Wildlife site to double check and see pricing. It's been a few years since I was last here, but we are already planning our next day trip!

Florence Falls Waterhole

Swimming lake
Nature & Parks
Popular plunge pool offering swimming at the base of a famous segmented waterfall.
hidden gem in Litchfield National Park. The twin waterfalls cascading into a clear, refreshing plunge pool are perfect for a swim, especially on a hot day. The walk down through the monsoon forest adds to the experience, with plenty of shady spots and wildlife along the way. It’s well-kept, easy to access, and a great place to relax and cool off. A must-visit if you’re exploring the Top End.
Sagar P — Google review
A stunning spot for a swim and easily one of my favourite attractions in Litchfield National Park. There are two access options: a steep staircase of around 130 steps or a longer, stair-free path that’s more accessible. We visited around midday on a Tuesday — it was fairly busy, but still plenty of space to enjoy the water. The twin waterfalls aren’t immediately visible from the viewing area, but once you’re in the pool, they reveal themselves beautifully. The swim to the falls is short and manageable — unlike Wangi or Edith Falls, which require a longer swim. I’d highly recommend bringing a pool noodle (a Territory essential!) as the water is deep and it makes floating much more relaxing. Sitting beneath the falls with water cascading over you was incredibly refreshing. For the adventurous, there are rock ledges nearby to climb and jump from. There’s also a calm, shallow creek off to the side for a more laid-back experience. Perfect for all swimming levels — an absolute must-visit.
Helen N — Google review
It is absolutely gorgeous and one of my favourite experiences in the NT. The car park gets very full in peak periods so be aware. Bring bathers as you don't want to miss swimming here - it's truly a magnificent experience. You can walk the 135 stairs down to the plunge pool or take the 1.1km track (easy walk - about 15 mins) through the bush/rainforest to get there - they both end up at the same place. Toilets and change rooms are near the carpark. Bring food & water. It's very rocky so some mobility required.
Kim S — Google review
Amazing waterfalls where you can swim during the dry season (once marked safe to do so). Lots of little rock pools to just dip your feet in if you aren't keen for a swim. Absolutely beautiful location although it can get busy in peak periods. You can swim right behind one of the waterfalls in one area which is an amazing experience. Just note you do need to swim against the flow of water to get to the actual waterfall itself which can be more tiring than expected.
Kylie — Google review
This is my #1 spot I’ve been to in NT!! Pictures don’t do it justice but it is the most beautiful place ever. It was pretty quiet when I went, only a few other people swimming. A few little fish around and easy to paddle or sit on rocks and still be submerged. Do not skip this if you’re visiting Litchfield

Nature & Parks
Double waterfall with pool set in a nature park offering a trail road, camping & picnic facilities.
Beautiful, the loop walk was nice and easy, for someone with moderate fitness, get there before 10am if you want the quiet. I went on October so end of dry season but still water flowing over the falls, and the swimming is beautiful 😍

Beautiful waterfall that is open at specific times of the year to swim in. For those who can’t swim or for times when it isn’t safe, it’s an easy walk along a raised pathway to the viewpoint that isn’t long. Definitely don’t miss this.
Joseph D — Google review
Top place to visit. Lovely area to swim in plenty of space. Picnic area and a cafe. Although we did have to wait 40 minutes for hot chips🤷. Good waterfall for pictures nice walk to do. I enjoyed my time there.
Pamela R — Google review
Great place to hike with 1 and 5 years old! Obviously the 1+ years old was Tula babywear by my hubby while I held the hand of 5 year old for her first full hike. Surprisingly she finished it though mentioning tired at some points. She did enjoy the views and the “green-tailed” ants she saw along the way! We even made it to the cafe before it closes! Since we had the park pass just visit as many locations as our time permit!
Irene S — Google review
Long swim out to the falls, but still worthit and ur able to sit behind the waterfall. Waterfall on the right I think is better, because waterfall on left is near bat cave and smelt like bat poop 🥴 Don’t bother going on the walk over the top of the waterfall, (unless purely for boring exercise) there isn’t any view that’s worthit, u can the car park for a couple of seconds at the top, just a long walk upstairs and then downstairs💀. Use ur time wisely and just chill at the falls. 🌊
Maisey C — Google review
The drive through the national park was fantastic; there were many waterfalls to behold. Wangi was the puck of the bunch. Swim in the magnificent water hole, which has two waterfalls tumbling down into it. The surrounding area is very well maintained and provides easy access to the water hole. There's a fantastic cafe nearby that doesn't charge too much for a quick lunch or coffee. Clean amenities, lush green grass. A must-see attraction.
George K — Google review
Stunning location! Two beautiful waterfalls streaming into a large swimming hole. There are changing rooms and toilets at the carpark a short stroll up the fully accessible path. There's lots of wildlife around, from spiders to insects to fish (that you swim with!) to bats to birds! A short boardwalk takes you to a viewing area... Or you could just swim out to the falls. The walk around the waterfall has lots of steps, but is very much worth the effort!

Do hike, a short 1.6 Km loop you’ll see lush tropical forest. And dip into the water after that hike-you’ll feel amazing..

Epicness incorporated - Our Pilot was Tim from NZ - a truly wonderful person to spend some time in the air. We touched down at the lost city and also at sandy creek falls - spectacular. We also saw a Jabaru! Epic flying epic knowledge from Tim and a huge amount of respect for the vast country. Highly recommended.

Today I took my partner on a the Ultimate Litchfield Tour. It was an amazing experience and I couldn't of been more happy with Sean the pilot and Steven. They were both really helpful and we landed at Sandy Creek and I proposed to my Partner and she yes. I would definitely recommend to do the Ultimate Litchfield Tour.

Thanks Nic for a great flutter over Litchfield today taking off from Wangi Falls. Excellent views and great flying skills. Your web site is excellent!!!!! Easy to manoeuvre around and the flight maps and itineraries are a great addition. If you are considering a flight I highly recommend it. Life is short and the cost of seeing from the air the places you've seen from the ground is soooooo worth it!!!! Just have a few less wines or beers when you get home to pay for it. Plus... all your friends will be sooooo damn envious.

Great views of the surrounding landscape. Friendly and helpful staff. There is no entry fee, but a donation is most welcome by the community who run this centre.

This place is fantastic, so informative with spectacular views. Outraged to hear the NT govt. are going to close this place according to the news! Hope that doesn't happen as I recommend it as a place all Australians and visitors should visit... a must stop on your way to a croc cruise along the Adelaide River.
Rhiane W — Google review
I'm sure that there are different/better views from the top if you were able to get up into the actual lookout, but the place is closed more than it's open. The signage on the building and everything there indicates they should have been open 10-3pm. A local said he's been there are a few times and it's never been open, yet other recent reviews indicate it's sometimes open... your milage may vary. The views from the lower deck/board walk area were cool and this time of year there is still lots of water and greenery. Entry, when open, is by contribution. Signage says you can either make a donation, or make a purchase at the Cafe or Gift Shop. Probably not a place to drive just to visit, but drop by and see if they are open if you do one of the local croc jumping experiences.
Jay A — Google review
It's worth a visit. Under new management and they are moving forward. Gold coin donation to enter to cheap.
Stephen W — Google review
The view over the wetlands is far and wide that stretches across sacred land. Loved the stop and the chance to freshen up on some local knowledge. Graham is extremely talented with his art offerings in store, will be back to experience the wet season and this view!
Deric S — Google review
Its free.... the iced coffees n iced chocolates are the best n under $5. Take your time... explore downstairs well ... then go up for the views n a icey bev or snack. Talk to the rangers there.... I make 2 recommendations. 1. If someone has walking issues its a long walk from carpark or sure seems it n all uphill. Drop them off n join them after parking is better as there is only 1 disabled parking spot at the top. 2. Get there early where you can. It can get busy at times. I forget the times now but the talks they give are supposed to be good. So i am going back tomorrow for the viewing platform talk. Gosh I learnt a lot. Some of the displays are interactive.. puzzle style.
Kim B — Google review
Beautiful location, and if you go up the viewing platform it has a wonderful view.

Nothing much to do there in the dry season... although they have good displays and explanation of the local environment and good views from a large viewing gallery.

Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve is a stunning nature haven that showcases an array of wetlands teeming with diverse wildlife, including various bird species, snakes, and even crocodiles. Visitors can explore two main walking tracks: the left boardwalk track is particularly enchanting when the Lotus Lilies are in bloom, while the right track offers glimpses of rainforest birds like the Rose-crowned Fruit-dove and Rainbow Pitta.
To see it in all its splendor sunrise and sunset are best. Regardless of time a stunning place to visit.

Really cool place, very lush wetlands and monsoon forest. Lots of bird life, and insects. Loved it here- had a lovely walk through the monsoon forest. The kids found it creepy as they were worried about crocodiles. Highly recommend if you are heading out that way.

📌 Fogg Dam 🌿✨ Exploring Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve – Darwin’s Hidden Gem ✨🌿 A peaceful day out with my husband at Fogg Dam, surrounded by endless fields of lilies 🌸, flocks of birds filling the sky 🦅, and a lookout view that takes your breath away 🌅. Once upon a time, this place was rice fields 🍚 – now it’s a haven for healing, walking, and soaking in nature’s calm. Signs warned us about crocs 🐊 (luckily none said hello 😂), but the serenity more than made up for it. Truly the perfect spot to relax, recharge, and just enjoy the beauty of the Territory. 💚
Anne M — Google review
Less than one hour from Darwin, Fogg Dam Conservation Area, should be on your list of things to experience, while in the Top End. A drive over the dam wall, gives you a front row seat to diverse bird life and maybe a freshwater croc. The sea of lotus lilies is a sight to behold. Which can be seen from the dam wall. But you can immerse in it on the 2.2km water lily walk. Please note: we didn’t see saltwater crocs but they do live there, and you should be crocwise.

Territory Wildlife Park

Nature & Parks
Territory Wildlife Park is a must-visit destination for those wanting to experience the diverse wildlife of the Northern Territory. The park features an aquarium with a walk-through tunnel showcasing giant barramundi, stingrays, sawfish, and saltwater crocodiles. Visitors can also explore the Nocturnal House and interact with wallabies and wallaroos along the Woodland Walk. The park offers walking paths and a shuttle train for easy exploration.
Spent the day at the Territory Wildlife Park, great place and so much to see, they have 3 shuttle trains go around the park every 30 mins, hop on, get off at any display area, and hop on the next train. Huge walkthrough aviary, huge rainforest walk - we got there and a Hollywood thunderstorm hit just as we got undercover... Awesome stuff... Huge aquarium with a glass tunnel like the sunshine coast and Manly in Sydney has. This is definitely better. 😁 A Freshie, and a Salty and an open aquarium/pond/lake with barramundi in it. Couple of Buffalo in an enclosure that has the mustering and trapping routines on display. Staff are very friendly and informative on the whole park. Trains are fully air-conditioned (conditioned to the outside air) no windows, but great for getting around. All in all a great day. Edit: You can purchase tickets at the park, with cash too, seniors and concession card holders get discounted entry fee.
Gus C — Google review
At first it felt very underwhelming but then the upclose wallaby experience made up for it as well as the aviary with beautiful birds. Saw one lazy sleepy dingo. They could get a few more, after all Australia is there home!!
Laurie M — Google review
Absolutely love territory wildlife park but prepare for a hot sweaty day and quite a bit of walking there is a "train" that stops every 30 minutes at the station by each exhibit. The birds are always my favourite and the morning bird show is a must see!!!! All of the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Britney H — Google review
Great park with lots of native animals in natural settings. Loved the bird show and aquarium. Big place, so riding bike or taking the free bus makes it easy. Perfect for families and anyone wanting a real Top End wildlife experience!
Laissa H — Google review
Very large park with many outdoor trails to walk. Overall more like a nature park than a wildlife park. We enjoyed the nocturnal area and wooloo sandbar stingrays, but didnt see many animals elsewhere. Very warm with little rest areas, 7km walk with no shelter

The best nature park in Darwin I've ever been to. Very family friendly environment, great staff. Had an awesome experience. Will be back soon
Pamella P — Google review
I love bringing my family here, there is easily enough here to keep you busy for a full weekend. You can choose to get plenty of exercise walking the tracks between exhibits, or you can catch the iconic turtle train. I HIGHLY recommend you don't miss the bird show on the flight deck, I have been to wildlife parks all around Australia and have not seen anything else that comes close.
Andrew S — Google review
I had an amazing experience at the Territory Wildlife Park. The park is beautifully set out and full of fascinating wildlife. Declan in the nocturnal house was absolutely fantastic his knowledge and passion really brought everything to life, and it was such a pleasure meeting him. Kyle, who presented the bird show, was equally impressive. The show was second to none entertaining, informative, and simply brilliant from start to finish. Both Declan and Kyle made the visit truly memorable.

Natural swimming pool in a monsoon forest & wetland known for spring flowers & roosting water birds.
Berry Springs Nature Park is such a gem! 🌿✨ It’s a huge place, perfect for a family picnic or a relaxing day out with friends. There are plenty of shady spots, picnic tables, BBQs, and even water taps available 💧🍖—so it’s super convenient. Unfortunately, swimming isn’t always allowed depending on the season 🚫🏊, but when it’s open, the natural pools and small waterfalls are just magical 💦🌺. During the wet season, it’s usually very quiet, which makes it even more peaceful and a great escape from the crowds 🌧️🌴. Whether you’re here for a picnic, a quiet walk, or (when safe) a refreshing swim, this place really showcases the beauty of the NT. Highly recommend! 🦋🌸
Anne M — Google review
Walked to see the main and shallow pools at Berry Springs—definitely popular with locals on a hot Sunday afternoon! We also tried the loop walk near the pool, which is supposed to take around 30 minutes, but we finished in under 15, probably because the heat had us speeding through. Great spot for a quick dip and a stroll, but go early to beat the crowds and the sun!

DO NOT SKIP BERRY SPRINGS. It was so amazing I’m surprised more people don’t know about it. 3 different options to choose from for a dip. It was so beautiful and the water was perfect!! It wasn’t too busy on the weekend in the arvo and there are picnic tables to sit at above and a grassy area if you want to sit and read. I would go here every weekend if I lived in Darwin it was wonderful. I think they close closer to wet season mid to late October but I’m so glad I got the opportunity to go

The pool is so clear and a beautiful colour. It was nice and warm. A great place to swim. A lovely place for a picnic or a BBQ. There were lots of BBQs and picnic tables. Very ordinary. Service extremely perfunctory, I had the impression that neither of the two servers really wanted to be there. Food was very average. I just had the bangers and mash, if you are going to sell something so simple get decent sausages! It’s not hard to get decent products.

Was an interesting experience. The art center was cozy. Some schedule changes happened and the tour was delayed for 30min. Beside of that all fine. We could lear more of aboriginal people’s life and thoughts. Got a tiny bit of their long and deep cultural backgrounds Would not say I could learn everything in such a short time.

Very disappointed. Was hoping to see and hear more after 2 hrs of driving but it's just a small shack and there is very little information regarding the music, the instrument or the culture. Howard Springs Nature Park, located just 30 minutes from Darwin CBD, has recently been renovated and is a great destination for families. The park offers a toddlers pool, man-made rockpools, waterfall, and a large playground with exciting features like a flying-fox. Visitors can observe barramundi, turtles, and other freshwater fish in the waterhole or take a bushwalk to spot wildlife. The park also provides shaded areas with BBQ facilities for picnics.
A beautiful place to have a picnic, a short hike or for the kids to have a splash and cool off. There's lots of picnic tables, BBQs and quiet spaces to chill out under the shady trees. Clean and well kept with lots of parking and clean toilets. A wonderful place to spend the day, especially with interstate visitors. I highly recommend.
Jody M — Google review
Lovely quiet spot. Great place for picnics! Has play equipment, fish feeding, water feature for kids, flying fox. There is also enough space that you can avoid people and enjoy some quiet time in nature reading a book. Tranquil, but fun. Good hiking trails and a spring.. It could do with a bit more love, I think. It would be great to see some swimming back at Howard Springs. Fish feeding pond looks pretty murky & heavy on algae, needs more fish to eat it? Birds were also very cute. It's definitely worth the short 20-minute drive. Lovely spot, would recommend for a visit. Take a picnic lunch.
Britt W — Google review
Nice spot for the kids. A small playground, some rock pools to splash in the spring with fish and turtles to see. An easy bush walk, picnic area all makes for a pleasant day out.

This nature park is awesome! Swimming areas (man-made) for kids, fantastic playground & flying fox. Well maintained facilities. Clean bbqs with seated areas but also lush grass to sit on with a home made picnic. Viewing platforms to see the fish in the barra stocked lakes/pond. Tranquil walks. I highly rate this place. Only visited briefly but definitely plan on going back for a family day bbq & swim.

Howard Springs Nature Park is a great place to enjoy wildlife including turtles, barramundi, file snakes and freshwater fish species. You can cool off in a shallow series of man-made rock pools, let the kids enjoy the adventure playground and relax with a quiet picnic or barbeque. You can't swim in the spring-fed waterhole.
Anne M — Google review
19.10.2025 - Make sure you take the mozzie spray! They almost picked me up and carried me away! It was the only downside of the place, i think they may need to fog the area! Take the first turn right when you get past the gates, it's not sign posted very well, but this will take you to the main carpark area. It is gorgeous out here! There are toilets, BBQs, seating, a nice shallow pool to sit down and cool off in & there's a play area for the kids to wear themselves out on.

Crocodylus Park, located just a short drive from the city center of Darwin, is a wildlife park that boasts an impressive collection of over 1,000 crocodiles alongside other animals such as lions, monkeys, water buffalo and various reptiles. The park was established in 1994 with the aim of educating visitors about crocodiles and promoting conservation efforts to safeguard their natural habitats.
Great place to get up close with these prehistoric animals - and others too! Very informative displays and demonstrations. Do the boat ride - but keep your arms inside at all times otherwise CHOMP! Also, make sure you see the crocodiles being fed. Great for kids and adults alike. Worth dropping in and visiting. Friendly and helpful staff.
Andrew S — Google review
The staff at this park are passionate about their work, and it shows. The boat cruise was quite good compared to others set on the Adelaide River. I found it more informative, and we saw more crocodiles in their man made river. It does get hot when you are watching the feedings as so many people are in the one space at a time.
Rachel D — Google review
Absolutely loved this park. I went on the Cruise while there to get up close to feeding Crocodiles. It was a great experience and would recommend the Park and the Cruise to anyone. Please view my photos for the just some of the animals and sites around the park. I visited both a Sunday with family and a Weekday on my own. I went early and there was no waiting.
Janelle L — Google review
Had a great day, great layout of the park with informative, interactive, and feeding sessions happening through the day with different animals. Heaps of crocodiles to see, from big to small. Must do the "extra cost" boat cruise on the man made lake, awesome experience with the crocodiles jumping up beside the boat for a feed. Again a very informative and enjoyable experience.

Amazing experience for a very reasonable price. Got to see the best croc experiences as well as holding a baby!!! Highly recommend you visit this place for a great day out and see some crazy really cool animals.
Ryan J — Google review
Really good day out, up close and personal with the crocs. The Croc cruise is and extra $10 but well worth it, educational and an experience. The other parts of the park are good, plenty of animals to look at and feed
John G — Google review
Was here when it first opened. Has a great reputation & lots of Crocodiles. Over years has expanded out into all types of Animals & now basically a tropical Zoo. First & foremost its a crocodile research centre & inderstanding the life cycle of the Salt & Fresh Water Crocodiles of Australia.
Kevan — Google review
Family of 3 -- we are so glad that we chose Crocodylus Park as our crocodile experience while visiting Darwin as there are many other animals to see as well. I'd advise prebooking the additional croc feeding boat experience as they sell out quickly and we saw many people turned away from the 11am timeslot. The enclosures are all outside, so bring a hat and PLENTY of water. The cafe is indoors with aircon and plenty of seating, which is sweet relief from the humidity. Totally recommend.

In Darwin, Australia, the Wave Lagoon is a popular attraction that offers a tropical oasis for visitors. Spanning over 4000 square meters, this man-made lagoon features 10 different wave patterns with gentle to 1.2-meter swells, making it perfect for activities like boogie boarding. Lifeguards patrol the area and ensure safety in the croc- and stinger-free waters.
Great way to chill out by the pool , plenty of space and there are lounge chairs with umbrellas. Kiosk has barista coffee machine, variety of cold drinks and snacks. Friendly staff too. Aqua fit on Sunday mornings are great way to start your Sunday.

Darwin Wave Lagoon is a great place to visit. Waves come every 15 minutes and last for 15 minutes. The area is clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The staff is really friendly and supportive. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed it!
Emi L — Google review
Really fun for the kids and adults alike! Staff are friendly, there are lockers inside the fenced area for a fee (self-serving and only big enough for small bags), lounge chairs and some bench seats. No toilets or change rooms inside, you have to leave and go to the toilets near the beach lagoon. Your entry fee is for the whole day, just keep your wrist band on. Waves are every 15 minutes and last 15 minutes. Super fun and you can bring your own ring tube. There's a kiosk for drinks and food. A nice day out.
Kim S — Google review
Great fun. Never too old to be a child. Grab a tube and bounce up and down with the waves. They’re pretty strong actually. Multiple lifeguards. They have lockers but bathrooms to change outside. Drink and snack stand. Waves start every 15 after and 15 till to give those a break to get in and out and just float or swim without the ups and downs.
Miss K — Google review
Excellent place to visit with a very cheap admission price. Wave pool is great. Has a nice kiosk so food and drinks well catered for. The admission is only $8 for all day use. You get a wrist tag which allows you to come and go at will
Chris G — Google review
Its very relaxing to enjoy the sun here while enjoying the splash of water in this pool. There is a basketball court and public restrooms. They have lockers and beautiful views of the cruiseship at a distant spot.
Gary C — Google review
We went for a dip on Saturday 15 February; unfortunately the wave machine wasn't working at 100% with repairs to be done on Monday 17 February *sad face* There were still waves, but they weren't as big as possible. Get to see the ladies "dive for a diamond" on Friday 14 February, A Hot 100 competition. They also hold water aerobics on Dunday mornings from the wave pool. Lost stars fue to repairs needing to be conducted.

Good fun and great value for money! We visited in the week and so the lagoon was not busy at all Understandably I can imagine that it is busiest at the weekends

2nd time to visit the Darwin Waterfront Precinct. There is an abundance of parkland space to pull up a picnic rug or have a cafe meal at some of the eateries dotted around the Waterfront. There is also a wave pool, inflatable diving platform and a protected lagoon to have a swim. You can also have a nice stroll along the piers that runs around the the waterfront.

The Darwin Aviation Museum is a treasure trove for aviation aficionados and history lovers, showcasing an extensive array of vintage military aircraft and fascinating artifacts. This museum highlights Darwin's significant contributions during World War II, featuring a striking B-52 bomber on loan from the U.S. Air Force as its centerpiece. Visitors can explore nearly 20 aircraft, including notable pieces like a Spitfire replica and various helicopters, alongside crash relics that tell compelling stories of aviation history.
A great combination of Aircraft and WW2 history. The B52 is a fantastic thing to see. Other highlights for me were the Cobra and F1-11. Well worth a visit. Also there is a bus from the city that stops directly out front.
Shane K — Google review
The Darwin Aviation Museum offers an outstanding collection of historic aircraft and aviation memorabilia. The highlight is the massive B-52 bomber, alongside many other well-preserved planes. A fascinating visit for history and aviation enthusiasts alike.
Marion — Google review
Such a great display and so much local information. Really good gift shop, lots of model aircraft toys.
Athfos — Google review
Nice aviation museum, but there are better ones. Not much to explore and learn for kids. A working flight simulator would be a benefit for example. Caravan or trailer parking is missing.
Peter — Google review
It's pretty impressive what this group of passionate volunteers do to bring together an amazing collection of displays and we'll kept aircraft. The centerpiece, which takes up the whole width and length of the museum, the B-52 Stratofortress needs to be seen to be believed. Of you're lucky to go on an "open cockpit day" you'll get some real unique experiences.
Daniel H — Google review
It was breathtaking seeing all the planes in the hangar. had fun taking photos, as well as reading up on the facts of each plane. worth a visit for sure! there's a souvenir shop too.
Janson C — Google review
There was an open cockpit day on the day that we attended - total fluke as we hadn't seen it advertised - it should have been advertised better as we had the best time and I'm sure lots of other people would have enjoyed the experience of sitting in some of these amazing planes & helicopters! The displays and information are an amazing experience and getting up so close amd personal is an honour. There are toilets amd a souvenir shop.

Crocosaurus Cove, located in downtown Darwin, is a wildlife haven showcasing the world's largest display of Australian reptiles, including the infamous saltwater crocodile. Visitors can witness these iconic creatures from 3 months to 80 years old in purpose-designed displays that offer 360-degree viewing on all three levels. The Cove offers various activities such as the Big Croc Feed Show and Fishing for Crocs platform where visitors can feed and interact with these fascinating animals.
What a great experience! A must do while your in Darwin, the staff are great and friendly too! Make sure you catch the variety of feeding and informative shows they have. Recommended getting the pass out at lunch and grabbing some local cuisine before heading back in for the arvo. Cool little gift shop also
Sim W — Google review
Highly recommend you check this place out. For 40$ AUD per adult, you can get a fun enough experience. You can pay more to do things like feed the crocodiles and swim in a tank nearby. This place is mind blowing for sure as I’ve never seen an animal that large from up close. You don’t need to buy tickets in advance for the basic entry ticket. I am unsure if you have to buy in advance for the other options.
Chris — Google review
We had a fantastic experience here, took the VIP tour which included feeding the crocodiles. Georgia was our tour guide with her knowledge and awsome personality made the entire tour not only educational but extremely fun...... thank you Georgia!!! Fantastic day!!!
Grant S — Google review
Awesome day out, well worth the money we spent. We witnessed a snake eating a rat! We held a lizard & a snake at no extra cost, we seen many snakes, crocodiles, turtles and lizards. Crocodile show was fantastic, when in Darwin we would go the again.
Angela K — Google review
Overhyped and mainly for kids, attractions are standard and very basic. The croc feeding is comedic at best. You can certainly hold the baby crocs, but the picture is $35. The swimming with the crocs looked super lame as well. The croc just sits there while you splash about in a plastic container for $$$$! Like other reviews stated, the other park is better, especially for the crazy entrance fee.
Famousaj1 — Google review
We really enjoyed Crocosaurus cove. Good viewing of the crocodiles with feeding sessions. Lots of reptiles to see and there was a snake and reptile show. We also got to see the people in the clear cage swim in the croc pool. All exhibits were easy to see. It's in the city and easy to get to. I would recommend a visit.
Leo — Google review
A fun experience, seeing some local reptiles as well as the crocodiles! I visited about 12 years ago and this place seemed exactly the same. We didn’t have long, so listened to a “meet the reptiles” chat by a keeper and did the “croc fishing” experience with the juveniles. The last time I visited I also held the baby croc. The keepers are so knowledgeable and seem very passionate. A great experience right in the CBD.
Alicia C — Google review
Interesting and informative, we managed to move through the exhibits quite quickly as luckily there was not much of a crowd unfortunately missed the timings for some of the attractions though so I would recommend timing your visit accordingly

Mindil Beach is a popular sandy shoreline in Darwin, known for its vibrant sunset markets that operate from April to October. The beach offers a picturesque setting for the iconic Mindil Beach Sunset Market, featuring over 200 stalls selling local cuisine, handicrafts, and souvenirs. Additionally, visitors can enjoy various entertainment options such as circus workshops, face painting, and a jumping castle. During the day, the beach provides an ideal spot for relaxation and leisure activities.
Mindil Beach, located in the Northern Territory’s Darwin, is much more than just a beach. Swimming is not recommended, but the beach festivities more than make up for it. There’s always something going on – whether it’s fun runs, festivals or the beloved Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, where you’ll find dozens of sizzling food stalls.
M/s H — Google review
Loved this beach, although it is currently being tended to by the local municipality. It is a very lively spot for watching the sunset, and it can get especially busy on nights that the night market is open (Mindil Beach Night Market). It is well worth spending a few hours there at sunset taking it all in. Lovely views, and it is a place that seems to draw the crowds and bring people together. Bring a towel, blanket, or chairs to rest and enjoy the sunset. There are also some seashells around, and the sand is soft. The area is well kept and clean.
Jacqueline S — Google review
Mindil beach market is a must see when visiting Darwin. Culturally diverse with everything from croc & buffalo pies to stuffed chicken wings, fresh calamari, crepes, terrific Indian at Dr Yummy & much more! Settle with your food & watch the sunset to the cool tunes from 1 of our first nation's buskers playing acoustic guitar as you dreamily watch yachts sail off into the sunset. Catch a camel ride along the beach if that's your thing. Later view some whip cracking courtesy of Mick's whips & browse the many market stalls with a plethora of things on offer. Family friendly & one of the best nights you'll have in Darwin. Guaranteed 🐊🤠🌴
Paula H — Google review
Beautiful beach with great markets. Fantastic sunsets
Rosfryfry F — Google review
Fine red brown established sand dunes. Sunsets framed by tree trunks as the sun sinks into the vast ocean. Vibrant market with many flavours, clothing stalls with fantastic printed designs & a natural mosquito repellent cream on offer.
Angela R — Google review
Great place to watch the sunset over the ocean and to walk your dogs 🐕 off leash. If you don't like crowds, don't go on the nights the markets are on. You also can not take your dogs to the markets, and they must be on leash on market nights.
Marion S — Google review
The best place to go on a Thursday (or Sunday) night. The number of stalls were down, assumedly due to the Darwin festival, but still worth the experience. If in Darwin you just have to go to these markets...
Geoff W — Google review
Recommend going there at sunset for some of the most beautiful sunset views you will see. Also go there when the markets are on, there's heaps of great stalls and tasty food available.

Located on Larrakia Land overlooking Fannie Bay, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is a top attraction in Darwin. It features diverse collections including indigenous and rock art, fossils, natural sciences, and seafaring history. The museum offers engaging public programs such as creative workshops, artist talks, and guided tours of its acclaimed exhibitions.
Great! So much to see, I wish we'd allowed more time for the visit. But we did get round to see everything (just). The Cyclone Tracy display is very vivid and interesting, lots of footage and interviews from the time. The collections of marine animal, birds and insects were very well displayed, beautiful to look at. The contemporary Aboriginal art exhibition which was stunning.

Definately recommend visiting the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT. There is a lot to see here from the entomology displays, cyclone Tracey exhibit and the amazing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. I would definately set aside more time than you expect to look at everything on display. We were lucky enough to visit during the Telstra NATSIA display. The artwork was so varied and captivating it was difficult to select a favourite to vote for.

Great place to spend a couple of hours. Very Interesting exhibitions. Lots of history and culture here. Friendly staff. Only downside is that the bicycle parking was not shaded. Not wanting to return to a melted saddle i had to park it accross the road at the ski club.

What an amazing museum! So many exhibits to see and learn about. They have something for everyone including art, animals (sea, land, and air), local Darwin history, maritime history, and much more. Oh and it's also FREE?!?
JR B — Google review
MAGNT is a small but wonderfully curated museum — and best of all, completely free to enter (though small donations are appreciated). After our 5-day road trip from Alice Springs, it was a no-brainer stop upon arriving in Darwin. The exhibits were diverse and engaging, featuring a beautiful showcase of local fauna, Indigenous art, and a deeply moving section dedicated to Cyclone Tracy. Visiting on a Wednesday meant few crowds, making the experience calm, easy to navigate, and unhurried — a real plus. The well air-conditioned rooms offered a refreshing escape from the heat and humidity outside. Overall, MAGNT is a hidden gem that’s well worth a visit, especially given its accessible location and free entry. Highly recommended for anyone exploring Darwin.

Excellent showcasing of NT's history & culture. Free entry. Transformations: from pre-history to Cyclone Tracy, Unruly days of rebellion & chinese immigrants' contributions, contemporary Aboriginal artwork that is mesmerising, life size Sweetheart the Croc & above all - the little known Maritime history of NT & Darwin in a huge warehouse style special exhibition area of its own. This area has the backdrop of Darwin Harbour - is absolutely Wow! immersive & engaging. Small gift shop & Bundilla @ Saltwater restaurant is pretty good. Well done to curator who captured essence of NT perfectly - not overwhelming but adequate. Though of course - our time of 1.5 hours was too short!
The M — Google review
Very nice and interesting display of cultural art and fauna found in NT. Recommend spending half a day here. Allocated 2 hours initially, but I had to return the next day for extra 3 hours.

The Darwin Military Museum offers a captivating multimedia experience called the Defence of Darwin Experience, which sheds light on the 1942 bombing raids. The museum primarily focuses on Australia's involvement in World War II, particularly emphasizing the Japanese bombing of Australia. Visitors can explore original uniforms, weaponry, and photographs from that era as well as learn about Australia's participation in various wars from the Boer War to modern times. The museum provides an immersive understanding of Darwin's history and its transformation over time.
Wow! You need to stop here and allow a few hours! There is an interactive room that locks up and plays a re-enactment of the day Darwin was bombed; there is an interactive table which allows you to listen to first count stories and there are so many areas & stories to read and explore! So much thought has gone into this museum and it is well looked after. Plenty of parking, toilets and a tiny Cafe and gift shop. Well done to Norm & the staff. Will be taking all out Southern Visitors to share this exceptional experience.

The Darwin Military Museum is a must-visit if you’re in Darwin! 🇦🇺✨ I found it fascinating because it really brings the city’s history to life, especially the events of 1942 during World War II. Walking through the museum, you get to see an impressive collection of army trucks 🚛, uniforms 🎖️, and historic weapons 🔫. The displays are well set out and give you a real sense of what Darwin went through during the bombing raids. The multimedia presentations and exhibits make the history feel alive — it’s not just reading information, it’s like stepping back in time. If you love history, the military, or just want to understand Darwin on a deeper level, this place is definitely worth the visit. 🙌

WOW. This has to one of the best museums I have visited in a long time. The cinema was so great and the movie was very well made. Displays were also well worth the visit, and as someone coming from Europe, it was nice to see all the exhibits and get a view on the war from the other side of the world. We spent good well over two hours and we would definetely come again. Thank you

Awesome museum. Lots of cool displays and there's a huge outdoor area. Lots to learn from WWII and the defence members who were part of various wars.

For the war historians this museum is a must. Be prepared to spend at least half a day there. There is an interesting film presentation which should not be missed and a number of interactive panels to explore.
Graeme H — Google review
Great history, vehicles, remembering our defence forces and an amazing display and memories from Holocaust survivors. It was the usual hot day, but really pleasant covering the acres through shaded paths and gardens.
Deborah S — Google review
Visited as part of WW2 Half Day Tour by Land & Sea recent Fri 25/7. Blown away literally! Only visited war memorial museums previously. This is on the actual WW2 Fortification heritage listed site on Darwin's military zone East Point area. The best part is outside - Armoured tanks & military vehicles, Bailey Bridges, recreated living quarters, Gun emplacement building on its original site with exhibits in bunker area surrounded by memorial plaques outside. Plus Holocaust indoor mini complex - it is a huge area set amongst gargantuan Banyan trees & nature's camouflage. So our allocated 1.5 hours was never going to be enough. I watched the Defence of Darwin experience when the war siren activated. After this - did a quick whizz inside & headed out. Covered almost all outdoor exhibits & military fortification by speed reading & taking pics to peruse later. Thankful indeed to live in peaceful times but also in absolute awe of the might, size & sheer intimidation of the military vehicles & equipment of yore. The Furphy water tank in good condition was another highlight- the phrase "to spin a furphy" originated!
The M — Google review
Wonderful displays and a wealth of information and memorabilia from several international conflicts. You'll need a good couple of hours to cover everything. A better experience would include more interactive experiences, guided tours and a more expensive cafe. Nevertheless, for war buffs, the DMM is highly recommended.
