The Big Lobster

$$$$affordable
Sights & Landmarks
Built in 1979, this 17-m. fiberglass-&-steel lobster sculpture is a popular spot for photos.
A Hidden Gem in Kingston Behind the Big Lobster! If you're passing through Kingston, do not miss the charming café tucked just behind the iconic Big Lobster. It's the kind of hidden gem that surprises you in the best way. With plenty of space and a gorgeous green setting, it’s perfect whether you're visiting solo, with a small group, or even a big bunch of friends. The breakfast and brunch options are spot on—fresh, hearty, and full of flavor. And the coffee? Easily some of the best you’ll find on the Limestone Coast. These folks know what they’re doing. What really sets this place apart is the rustic, relaxed vibe—outdoor seating under the trees, a peaceful atmosphere, and genuinely warm service. It’s the ideal stop to recharge and soak in the local charm. Highly recommended. You’ll leave full, caffeinated, and smiling!

The lobster was bigger than a regular lobster. We drove 4 hours to go fishing, but the weather was not as forecast, so we cracked 'em and went exploring a bit instead. The people running the shop were super friendly and chatty and shared some history about the town and photos displayed, along with some good local fishing spots. She did a nice coffee, but the sausage roll had been sitting in the warmer for a bit too long (I should've got a pasty instead, maybe?). Overall, it's a great place to stop on a road trip and see a lobster that is larger than a real lobster. Funnily enough, the servo across the road were selling lobster sandwiches. Maybe I should've got one of those instead of the sausage roll? The lobster was pretty large.

Im not normally particularly interested in 'the big thingys' towns/States attempt to portray themselves as having the biggest n bestest of. The Big Pinapple is my home patch claim to fame lol😁🍍 However! The Big Lobster is indeed impressive, not just BIG, but also almost pedantically detailed! Well done creators, this big crustation is a winner to me. I noted that The Big Lobster gets plenty of photos, selfies, and inspections by the passer bys but it seems many visitors click, and then cross the road to the bakeries and other food places, this instead of taking a seat in the restaurant right behind the big orangey/red fella. I do hope that place gets good trade in the high seasons as its their parking area the photographers mostly use for a lot of their snapping events. I was fascinated by the home across from The Big Lobster.
Valerie — Google review
This rating is for the giant lobster. I was just passing by and took a few photos. I did not enter the venue so can't comment on it. However, the outside area looked quite welcoming.
Emmy S — Google review
We stopped in Kingston SE during our road trip and saw the Big Lobster, also called Larry. It was really big and fun to see! Larry is 17 metres tall – that’s very tall for a lobster! You can walk up close to it and take photos. It was made in 1979 to help bring more tourists to the town. The claws and face look very cool, even though it’s a little old now. Kingston is a quiet town near the beach, and the Big Lobster is a great place to stop if you’re driving by. We had fun, took some photos, and got a coffee nearby. If you like seeing strange or funny things when you travel, you will like Larry the Lobster!

Interesting Sculpture on the edge of town. Parking available. Good photo opportunity. Food places nearby. Well worth a look.

The lobster was good to see , the little store and cafe was closed and we could not get anything to eat or drink . Would have been nice to get a souvenir

Just a gorgeous place and the drive is beautiful - so many great viewpoints over the bays and blue ocean. Just loved it
Colin S — Google review
Beautiful coastal drive with plenty of pull off and parking areas. Excellent beaches. There is quite a number of access points to walk down for swim plus some vehicle access (4wd) points, as well. The beaches seem to slope down quite steeply, in general, so suspect the water gets deep quite quickly. Best to be mindful of that and if there is a large swell happening at the time. There are a few well protected areas from various land outcrops that would seem to offer a safer options for swimming if needed. Virtually no rubbish bins or facilities along the route so be mindful of that.

A lovely little drive just outside Beach Port. Several places to get out relax and walk it simply enjoy the scenery from car.

This scenic drive during dusk is a must do . Beautiful sunset views
Travelinstylewithdebs — Google review
Very nice 👌 well worth the short detour. There's a turnoff towards the end of the drive that looks a bit rocky but it gets very sandy and hard to turn around. Easy to get bogged,, especially if you don't deflate tyres.
Maud C — Google review
Nice drive. Stopped at the light house (short stroll from car park) and the blow holes. Really a must do if in the area. Kids thought it was going to be boring, couldn't get them to leave the blow holes lol.
Rob — Google review
Absolutely beautiful scenic coastline and some awesome spots to get out and have a closer look at the crumbling shoreline and cracking waves by walking only a few hundred meters.
Daniel B — Google review
No trip to Beachport in the Limestone Coast is complete without a cruise along the Bowman scenic drive, a fully sealed route which follows the spectacular rugged coastline of the Southern Ocean. Wind your way around the bends overlooking the stunning ocean, idyllic beaches, rock pools and reefs. Take in the wonderful views from one of the many vantage points along the way or stop to enjoy a leisurely walk down to sandy beaches and wander out onto rocky outcrops at the Salmon Hole and Post Office Rock. The kids will love rolling down the steep sandy dunes or exploring in the rock pools. Scuba dive, surf fish or simply ponder the mystique of nature from one of the lookouts. Good vantage points to view passing Southern Right Whales. Please note there are dangerous undertows along these beaches. Take care at all times.

Beachport Jetty

Fishing pier
Sights & Landmarks
Piers & Boardwalks
This is probably the longest jetty that I ever visited. This is really long, within top 5 longest jetties in Australia. It's a nice walk of the full length of the Beachport Jetty until the end, total 772 metres long. The jetty has 143 years history but has been well maintained. It's a must-visit if you are travelling the Princes Highway between Adelaide and Melbourne, but you will have to branch out from the Princes Highway for a short session for visiting the Beachport. I planned to visit not just Beachport, but also another beautiful little town called Robe, which is another must-visit little town that you can't skip if travelling between Adelaide and Melbourne via Princes Highway.
Pat C — Google review
Nice walking spot across Rivoli Bay, especially after eating delicious seafood and chips at the local cafe. A few spots to sit along the 700+m long jetty, must be good fishing judging by the numbers of people fishing.
SM B — Google review
Definitely worth a visit! Second longest jetty in SA at 772 metres! It's such a nice walk in the morning - and we seen a couple of dolphins too! 😊
Sean H — Google review
Lovely for a walk, awesome for fishing. Have caught mulloway, garfish and squid in years gone by.

Long pier/jetty. Good walk to the end with great views of the ocean. Well worth a look. Good parking, and location.
Christine B — Google review
Water colour and clarity was amazing. Worth the long walk to the end.
Davina P — Google review
Very pretty seaside town, friendly and easy to stroll around. Try the homemade pies and pasties at the shop over road from chemist. Lots of interesting things on sale. The museum is well worth a look, so many interesting displays, the home upstairs was an added bonus. Usually we do a quick walk around but we emerged almost 2 hours later. The jetty is something to see as well. Lovely buildings. Just a nice relaxing day.
Mar L — Google review
We had a picnic on the Jetty with Fish & Chips from the local shop. Beautiful food with beautiful views. Had the rod in to wet the line but didn't stay long enough to catch anything Couldn't believe how blue the water was! Mesmerizing 😍

The Sheep's Back Museum

Mentioned on

Museum
Specialty Museums
The Sheep's Back Museum in Naracoorte offers an immersive experience into the Australian wool industry, showcasing the history of woolshed workers and their trades. The museum also highlights the industry's environmental impact. Visitors can explore exhibits on wool yield information and sheep farming, with a comprehensive approach that delves into contemporary practices and policies. The museum features interactive displays, a model railway, and a kids' section for family enjoyment.
Really interesting glimpse into Australia's farming history. Great displays with lots of attention to detail. Really liked the working model railway. A lot of time and effort has gone into making this a great place to learn about life in "the olden days" Well worth a visit. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Nayda F — Google review
Another absolutely fascinating country museum. A $10 entry (concessions and discounts available) gets you access to three floors of local and farming history as well as a range of outbuildings including a complete schoolroom, relocated original buildings and loads of old machinery. There's a beautifully detailed model railway and decent shop. The main building is also home to the tourist information center. The only thing I'd have liked to have seen was some more information about some of the machines in the grounds - I thought I could recognize or, at least, figure out the purpose of most farm kit but some of these old machines left me scratching my head.
Perry W — Google review
Loved this museum , well kept with extremely friendly staff. Great look into Australian country life and evolution. With a wonderful kids museum that makes “boring history” seem fun
Martin S — Google review
We (2 adults + 3 kids) really enjoyed our visit. We spent about 75 minutes. The staff were really great. The displays were really great. The history of the area plus a number of buildings from the region have been brought to this site. Our kids loved the school building. Fun place to visit, interesting for everyone and a great location.
Michael W — Google review
Great local museum in Naracoorte with alot of interesting historical items to look at and walk through about the region and the sheep's back, worth a visit.
Mark O — Google review
This museum was great! A very detailed look in to the regions history and a wealth of information about current attractions and things to do. Anne was lovely and very helpful, would definitely recommend this experience to others.
Eli M — Google review
This is a really worthwhile museum to visit. It is part of the Visitor Information Centre and close to the town centre. It takes a comprehensive approach to the wool industry in Australia that goes beyond the more commonly known narrative. I particularly liked its focus on contemporary times, both practices and policies, such as land overclearing, conservation and new technologies. The gift shop is also very good, and the staff were lovely.
Rae-Anne D — Google review
The adjoining information centre has a great variety of souveniors. The display of trains and railway model is impressive. Outside garden area is stunning beautiful with poppy blossom.

Naracoorte Caves National Park, located about 10km southeast of Naracoorte, is a World Heritage-listed site known for its 800,000-year-old limestone caves. These caves are home to a fascinating collection of trapped animal fossils and unique stalactite and stalagmite formations. The park's Wonambi Fossil Centre showcases significant fossil finds and offers insights into the area's prehistoric wildlife.
We visited the Naracoorte Caves and completed the Bat Tour with our guide, Andrew. Andrew was so incredibly knowledgeable, funny and welcoming. He made the tour so much fun and an unforgettable experience. My partner and I learned so much and truly had an amazing time. The walks around the National Park provide breathtaking views, are so peaceful and enjoyable. The Fossil Centre is incredibly informative and engaging! We will definitely return!
Gabby B — Google review
My husband and I have done the stick tomato self-guided tour and both the Alexandra and Victoria guided tours with Jack as the tour guide. We had an amazing time and Jack is extremely personable and bursting full of information. Jack can read his audiences and is thoughtful of the needs of the people on the tour. It is quite obvious he loves what he does, we will be back to do the Blanche cave when the bats are not hibernating
Catherine M — Google review
We purchased the self guided cave entry which came with the complimentary entry to the museum of fossils. The fossil museum was well done it's great for children and adults. The stairs to the cave are a bit slippery so wear proper footwear.
Merhini N — Google review
I visited Naracoorte Caves National Park with my Year 6 and Year 1 kids. The bat tour’s live viewing and conservation insights, plus the Victoria Fossil Cave’s fossils and storytelling, made it outstanding for my Year 6: very educational and engaging. Stick-Tomato Cave was a nice, shorter add-on. My Year 1 found some caves dark and long, so younger children may lose interest if doing tours one by one on the same day. Highly recommend for upper primary learners.
Yu Z — Google review
Did the Alexandra and the Victoria Fossil caves , found it very educational and interesting to learn about the animals that use to walk this earth! The guides were extremely knowledgeable. Did find it hard as we travel with dogs and dogs are not allowed in the park grounds .
Martin S — Google review
Unfortunately only had time for the victoria fossil caves, we will definitely be back to tour all the caves this park has to offer in one day. Our tour guide (Barb) was fantastic, she was considerate and very knowledgeable. If you are considering these caves, do it.
Chris M — Google review
Amazing, wonderful and naturally created . Staff are so friendly and Informative . Each cave and walk is easily accessible . You definitely need to pre-book your cave experience as they fill quite quickly . This can be a complete days experience or just a few hours . There's a cafe with indoor/outdoor seating and plenty of picnic areas .

Thinking of wine-tasting in Coonawarra? Rymill Coonawarra winery offers cellar tastings with a variety of top wines (Cabernet & Shiraz) and you can take a walk through their vineyards and explore a state of the art building featuring a sculpture dedicated to the wine industry. Their wine & food menu is one of the best in the region and the entire atmosphere is relaxing and beautiful. The grounds are also available for private events which can be held on-site year-round. A worthwhile place to visit and create memories. Thank you Rymill.

Large cellar door with friendly staff and a good variety of excellent wines. Wines are very well priced- excellent value. Loved their Sparking Wine (has a very pale pink colour) and their Riesling is superb.
Gustav — Google review
Beautiful cellar door! Unfortunately it was pouring buckets and cold as frozen hell the day I visited. I really wanted to have a stroll outside, but of course, it’s not within the control of anyone apart from the weather gods! We were the only ones there at the time (mid-winter) and I enjoyed tasting a few more wines. I do like that they don’t put the whites in oak so I don’t have that in-your-face oakiness that puts me off (for some reason, I’m ok with it in reds, probably cos it gets subsumed into other big flavours). Next time, I’ll come back when the weather is better!
Melvin L — Google review
I'm a Rymill fan and it was good to catch up with you on our recent trip. We also did most of the other wineries as we only get over there every few years. Chris

When visiting Coonawarra, a trip to Wynns Coonawarra Estate's cellar door is a must. Established in 1891 by John Riddoch, this winery played a pivotal role in revitalizing the region's wine industry. While they offer Riesling and Chardonnay, their Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz are the highlights of their wine tasting experience.
A lovely cellar door with some great displays of the winemakers and vineyard history. A great selection of tasting. It costs, but you don't pay if you buy a certain amount of wine. (I think $150?)
Graeme S — Google review
We prebooked Wynns premium tasting experience, which was well worth the small additional price, refunded after our purchases. A lovely historic building with artefacts to explore. Knowledgeable host made it a most memorable visit. Allow 1.5 hours.
Mark E — Google review
A Fantastic Start to Our Wine Tour Wynns was the perfect first stop on our wine tour, expertly organized by the brilliant Coonawarra Experience. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. The tasting experience was exceptional, especially the Flagship range, which showcased the winery’s craftsmanship and depth of flavor. The 2021 vintage stood out as a particularly great year, offering beautifully balanced and complex wines. Beyond the tasting, we loved learning about the rich history of the land, which was well presented throughout the winery. A visit to the cellar added an extra layer to the experience, making it even more memorable. Wynns is a must-visit for wine lovers exploring the Coonawarra region!
Pinal ( — Google review
An amazing company with long history and wonderful people. We bought Wynns mostly in Melbourne for a while but I didn't know the building is for real. I was surprised when we first visited as this vineyard reminds me a lot about Tuscany. So special and memorable experience among other wineries we had in Coonawarra. The tasting of premium wine was beautiful and recommended. We bought a mixture 6 bottles and they will be our special collection. We will come back for another release soon.
Duong N — Google review
Lovely winery experience. Nice to be the first tastings on a Sunday, or was there a 100 before us LOL 😆 Lovely host with heaps.of knowledge. Great wines and fabulous value!
Richard J — Google review
Really surprised (in a good way) to see they had a Pedro Ximénez. The lady who did our tasting (wish I’d caught her name) was super friendly and made the whole experience really enjoyable. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in Coonawarra.
Eduardo P — Google review
Wynn's is synonymous ith Coonawarra so had to stop going through. For tasting there is cost if you do full tasting selection but this is waved if buying some bottles. There are new destination EV charges, but these weren't listed on plug share or other. Not sure if cost but didn't necessarily seem the case.
Matthew M — Google review
Went here as a pit stop from MaClaren Vale back to Melbourne. Few months back we’ve acquired a 30 yr old Wynn’s wine from the premium range and that was smooth and we decided to revisit Wynn’s. $15 for wine tasting and $30 for their premium range which is refundable if you purchase a bottle or two ( or more). Place was clean and lots of history. Their displays of family history and wine making were very interesting. Helpful staffs. Wheelchair and pram friendly.

Katnook Estate, located in the Coonawarra region, boasts a rich winemaking history. With nearly 40 years of experience, winemaker Wayne Stehbens left behind a legacy of impeccable wines before Tim Heath took over in 2018. The cellar door is housed in a beautifully renovated building that was once used by Coonawarra's founding father. Here, visitors can enjoy an extensive tasting list featuring premium wines and locally sourced platters of cheese.
A lovely wine tasting at Katnook wines. Host was knowledgeable about each wine in the tasting. Cheese platter ... yummo .. perfect! We will enjoy sharing our purchase with friends... well maybe.

Lovely services from the ladies at the cellar door. Tasted 5 wines. Their top 2 (Odyssey and Prodigal) are very good and will improve with age. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate wine was also very good. Highly recommend stopping by and trying them....
Graeme S — Google review
A group of 8 of us wandered in on a Wednesday morning. Naomi was behind the tasting counter and a superb ambassador for Katnook’s amazing range. The Prodigy and Odyssey were superb highlights. Lots of boxes now winging their way back to Melbourne. We’ll be back. Thank you!
Brad C — Google review
Just wow! We swung past with doubt in our minds as being a larger group of 10 looking for something to not only quench our wine thirst but our famished bellies with fantastic cheeseboards. We tried our luck and much to our surprise we were blown away with the accomodating experience of the 2 women running the day in Katnook. As a skilled wine drinking clan travelling from the Barossa Valley we already have born and bred standards, but these ladies blowing away our minds with warm hospitality and amazing wine was the cherry on the top of our perfect day. Thank you katnook and the girls with the great hospitality.

What can I say… Driving down the driveway when the vineyard is turning the shade of the sunset… Arriving at the cute cellar door and being greeted by a lovely lady who was super attentive and full of knowledge about not only Katnook wines but the surrounding region. We were able to try all the wines and were also made a beautiful cheese platter for our family. All the wines were unique and delicious! We have been travelling around Australia for 2 years and this would have have to be one the best experiences at a winery that we have had. P.S the previous review from the “wine professional” - what a flog!

"Rich in heritage, Katnook Estate lies in the heart of the fabled Coonawarra wine region, South Australia. It is home to some of Australia’s premier terra rossa vineyards." as mentioned on its website. Not only vineyard, but you can see roses and do some wine tasting. Love their wine, bold and rich in flavor. Ah there's wine museum here as well 🍇

Only a few historic cottages. Only one opened. Presumably badly kept to make a point of horrible conditions the people in general and this family in particular lived. Really not much to see. All you need is a 5 min drive down the street. BTW badly signed to find the place.

Wow, really worth stopping by for this. We spent a good hour and a half looking around. Seeing the old houses is incredible and truly unique for Australia. The gardens are wonderful. I feel lucky to have seen this. Well done to everyone keeping it going. A beautiful, must see in the area. So much history to read and witness.

Just loved the little houses. Great examples of hessian walls covered in layers of old wallpaper! Can't believe a couple with 15 children lived in Sharam cottage. (My lot better not ever complain about sharing with one sibling again!) Beautiful flower/herb gardens. I bought some fresh rocket, parsley and strawberries all for a donation!

Amazing find, in the most fascinating little town. Give yourself plenty of time to wander the street, see the history. The cricket museum would have to be one of the best museums I've seen, and I don't even like cricket! Check out the general store for great coffee and a step back in time!

What an amazing place to be. Harrow Cricket museum is the real mecca of cricket, this is where it all started in Australia in 1868. Harrow is a small sleepy town with lovely people and a rich heritage. Harrow Discovery Centre is open all days and a must visit for anyone with love of cricket and history. You can spend the whole day in the Harrow Discovery Centre, and then visit the local pub just across the street. Lovely place!!!!

Very interesting on the history of the first aboriginal cricket team that travelled to the UK in the 1800 . It closes too early on weekends at 2pm but as we were attending the harrow show we were able to visit at night but way too short as the woman commentator was excellent and had us enthralled.

Harrow has a terrific Discovery Centre that was well structured, authentic and steeped in history. The cricket memorabilia is totally amazing. To have such a vast collection of pieces from our first ever team to tour England and the largest Bradman collection in existence is amazing. The volunteer staff are warm and inviting, and enthusiastic about their work. Well worth a visit. Harrow is a lovely quaint warming old country town. A step away from hustle and bustle and return old world charm, a real surprise package.

What a find!! What an amazing amount of cricket memorabilia, with a huge amount dedicated to Bradman. The centre has a great historical connection to its indigenous cricket team. Please visit and donate to keep it running. Excellent achievement for the Harrow community.

An amazing collection of pinball machines with autographed memorabilia adorning the walls. If you don't wish to play the machines, you have the option of just leaving a donation. The owner is super friendly and more than happy to have a chat about the various machines and their history. Highly recommended.
Achtung B — Google review
You might drive past without noticing. But inside, the machines wait patiently, blinking their lights into the dimness. It’s not a theme park. It’s quieter than that. The sounds are familiar but distant. The soft clatter of flippers. The lonely bounce of a silver ball. The soft hum of circuits remembering how things used to be. The man who keeps it all going moves with the kind of care people reserve for things that mattered once. He knows the machines. Not just how they work, but what they meant. When he talks about them, he’s not selling nostalgia. He’s preserving something fragile. There’s joy here, but it’s quiet. Like a song you half-remember. Like something once loud, now settled into memory. The Australian Pinball Museum doesn’t try to impress. It doesn’t need to. It remembers for all of us.
Flip M — Google review
If you are driving along the Western Hwy and passing through Nhill, the Australian Pinball Museum is definitely worth a stop. Located just off Dimboola Road, this place is a hidden arcade museum filled with flashing lights, nostalgic sounds, and a huge collection of pinball machines. They have everything from classic older style machines right through to the newest titles, all set up and working beautifully. I found it amazing to not only see such a wide range on display but also to actually play them. Some of my personal favourites were there, and it really brought back memories of when I was younger spending hours in arcades. The pricing is very fair – $2.00 per game on the new machines and $1.00 on the older ones – which makes it easy to play multiple games without breaking the budget. The variety is impressive, and honestly you could spend hours here going from one machine to the next. The vibrant lighting, themed artwork, and buzzing atmosphere make it even more fun. Open daily from 11am to 9pm, it’s an easy stop for families, travelers, or anyone wanting a dose of retro fun. If you grew up playing pinball or just want to try something different, definitely drop in and enjoy a few games. Open hours : 11am to 9pm daily.

when i die, this is where my soul will go. heaps of funky american sodas available for sale, & the place just has that fun lowkey energy rural towns often have. place was empty when i went, & the museum is vast — there are pinball machines from the 1940’s, alongside machines that were released just weeks ago! educational, interactive & fun. 10 outta 10

It was very entertaining to have a go at pinball (even if you're not that great at playing like me) and definitely worth travelling to if you're a pinball enthusiast! Had a variety of playable pinball machines and a lot of vintage machines and promotional posters and machine components on display. My family visited on an evening on a weekday so it wasn't that busy and Vanessa who was working there was very helpful, friendly and lovely to chat to!

What a wonderful place to play pinball! ✨ Edit: why do the tables get more difficult each time I come?! Is the tilt getting harder to make more $? I spent $10 in 10 mins this last time. They have both new & classic machines in operation ✨ Also the person who runs the place is both friendly, and very knowledgeable about pinball, and all the other classic games that are located here 😌😊 I really enjoyed my visit here 😊 Thank you! 😁

Mount Arapiles

Mountain peak

Rock formation rising 140m above the plains & offering hiking, bouldering & free climbing.
Spectacular 360° views great for sunrises and sunsets very easy access
Michael J — Google review
I finally made the trip to Mount Arapiles and wow, it lived up to every bit of the hype. As a visiting climber, I was blown away by the sheer volume and quality of routes. Arapiles is a trad climber’s dream: perfect gear placements, beautiful sandstone, and routes that are both mentally and physically engaging. The climbing community here is incredibly welcoming. I arrived solo and left with new friends, belay partners, and unforgettable memories. The Pines campground has this laid-back, communal vibe that makes you feel instantly at home. Sunrise coffee with a view of the Organ Pipes? Magic. Sunset walks to the summit? Even better. What really struck me was the sense of history and respect for the land climbers here really care about this place. And so they should. Arapiles is more than just a crag; it’s a sacred site for climbers around the world. I’m already counting the days until I can return.

I'm no climber but I loved it here. Awesome view and beautiful scenery. Camp is nice and lots of wildlife everywhere. Lots to do even if you're not a climber, but if you are you would not be disappointed. This is one of the best climbing locations in the world and I would recommend.

Beautiful area for walking relaxing and photography road up is good but narrow not difficult at all just beware of cars coming the other way some tend to think there invincible. And that speed limits are for others not them. Campgrounds looked full but didnt stay so cant comment. Rock climbers were out in force and enjoyed watching them scale the cliffs but not for me 🤣🤣 Highly recommended just take care .

Bushwalking, birdwatching & 4x4 vehicle tours of an arid landscape known for seasonal wildflowers.
Lovely campsite at Big Bend on the Wimmera River. Very peaceful once the motor cross enthusiasts had finished for the day. No facilities, so you need to be self-sufficient - but a great spot nonetheless 😀

A drive into the desert.. not really a desert but surrounded by all white sand.. supportive weather is must though.. 4fwd drive cars not required unless weather is bad.. we went straight through via hatchback car.. Picnic ground in the central area.. possibly isolated..

My second flying visit to Little Desert and once again the scenery and bird life blew me away. Add to that Dimboola is an amazing little town, make sure to stop in and grab lunch or something to eat and support the lovely local businesses.

Amazing landscape , 4wd only and need 2inch clearance as sand can be deep in some parts. I personally wouldn't do this in rain and summer months.

Beautiful area but sadly closed for to a recent fire. So need to revisit one day
Linda W — Google review
Camped at horseshoe bend, great paid campsite on the river. You must book online. Lovely swim in the river, flushing toilets and fireworks. No other amenities. Lots of kookaburras... And they are not afraid to steal your food from your plate. They were flying under our awning to steal food .. Even tried to grab the lamb out of the camp oven, still in the flames! (We did not feed them at all) leave nothing but footprints! 4WD ing some very soft sandy tracks through the park was a bit of fun. (If anyone finds the top 1/3rd of a sand flag... It's ours) lots of kangaroos speed around the waterfront holes, emus and other Birdlife.
Connie F — Google review
Spent 2 days here and never saw another car, i guess with it's big brother not far away this little desert might get overlooked. Well worth the adventure. Didn't need to air down the sand was sticky due to the time of year. Easy enough to avoid the large mud holes in the road so a modest 4wd will get you there.

Staying next door and had a leisurely walk when the rain stopped. Lovely garden. Look well maintained! Double thumbs up to the care taker👍👍😃 Very clean, neat and tidy👍👍. Free entry to the garden. Some of the plants starting showing changing colour, when they fully changed, it would be more beautiful! Perfect place for family picnic. Toilets provided. I think there are 3 entrances to the park. Plenty of parkings. Unfortunately no dogs allowed tho. Highly recommend this when you come to the area.

For that matter you can't go past this beautiful botanical garden without noticing it (if driving towards Anzac centenary bridge, Weir park, etc.) A well manicured, well maintained botanical garden with variety of Flowers, shrubs, plants, trees etc makes for an enjoyable walkabout. There's also a children's playground and barbeque area with toilet facilities etc towards the rear side of this botanical garden. Overall, it's a Good place to spend some time in Horsham.

This is the fourth time we've been here. Cameron is awesome and so are his horses. My child first visited as a youngster and now 16 and still loves horses. Considering making regular trips twice a year to get this amazing experience!

Great place to go for a trail ride! Cameron is a fantastic instructor and will give you mini lessons throughout your trail ride! The ride is suitable for riders of all levels, and a horse is selected for your skill level - plenty of chances for nice long canters! Lovely ride through the bush and gorgeous horses to ride!

Had the absolute best time at Grampians Horse Riding. Such friendly and down to earth people, felt so welcome. My horse for the ride Jasper was a perfect fit for me being a beginner. He was so calm and forgiving. The scenery was beautiful and I learned so much. I have definitely started an obsession, I need my own. Thanks so much Cameron!

Had a private tour today with Grampians horse riding centre. Definitely recommend going for a ride here! The surroundings are beautiful, and you get clear explanations about the key aspects of horse riding. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, the tour is customized to your level. The horses are well cared for! What’s great is that it’s not just about the ride, you also get to help with grooming and saddling the horses.

Went with my partner for a two hour trail ride. Had a great time as a beginner, Cameron was informative about horses, horse riding, and the local area. If you've the time and are in the area, definitely give it a go. Can't go wrong.
Matthew H — Google review
This is more than just your average trail riding centre. If you enjoy well educated quality horses then this is for you. Safety is always a priority but balanced with fun engaging exercises. Cameron respects his horses and expects you to do the same. He has a wealth of equine knowledge to offer if you're willing to be educated and is not afraid to keep you in check or alternatively allow you to ride ahead if capable. The scenery is magic and you will come away refreshed and more confident in your skills. We had a group of four riders from absolute beginner to rusty old keen 'wanna be' and all thoroughly beamed after our ride! Can't wait to have the privilege to ride with you again Cameron. Good luck with those non equine ventures and hope you have recovered from those renovation induced injuries;).

Boroka Lookout offers stunning views of mountain ranges, lakes, and plains from its cliffside viewing platforms. It serves as the starting point for a 12.4-km return walk and is also accessible via a medium-grade 9.6-km Wonderland Loop Track that includes Splitters Falls and the Pinnacle. Reeds Lookout, just a short drive away, provides easy access to breathtaking views with wheelchair-accessible paths.
Great place and amazing view, only 1 minute walk near park, very convenient. The sign to here also very clear and easy to get. For those who don't like walk but wanna watch great view, here would be a best choice.
Johnny S — Google review
Speechless. Incredible lookout! It's a quick stroll to the lookout, you can see the lookout from the carpark! suitable for everyone of all abilities. If you want to go for a longer walk there are some more challenging trails surrounding the platform that allow you to take in the views. It's very high up so it's very cold, bring a jacket and some warm pants! Unless it's summer of course. I could stay up there for hours just taking in the view, a must see of the Grampians!
Karen — Google review
On that rainy day, the viewing platform I had been so looking forward to visiting seemed draped in a delicate veil. Thick mist concealed the distant mountains and the horizon, turning what should have been a wide, open view into something hazy and unreal. In that moment, a touch of disappointment welled up in me, as though I had missed the chance to see the most beautiful painting. Yet, as the light rain tapped gently against the railing and the fog drifted slowly with the wind, a different kind of charm emerged—the world felt quiet and mysterious, like stepping into an unfinished ink painting. Although I wasn’t able to witness the vast and magnificent scenery I had hoped for, I could still sense the allure of nature. And perhaps it was this very incompleteness that became a new source of anticipation. In my heart, I made a quiet promise: next time, on a clear and sunny day, I will return to let this unfinished landscape find its perfect ending in my memory.
Leo L — Google review
Guys, don’t miss this place! We actually planned to come for the sunrise but couldn’t make it, and still — it was absolutely beautiful. You can visit anytime of the day and it’s worth it. I’d say this is one of the best lookout points in the Grampians. It’s super easy to access, just a short two to three minute walk from the parking area, and there’s plenty of parking too. It’s also accessible for people with disabilities, which is great. Definitely one of the places I’d highly recommend!
Aksa T — Google review
Absolutely stunning views from this lookout across the valley! Short drive from Halls Gap through windy roads, signs will lead the way. Less than a minute walk from the car park with no steps/stairs, accessible for everyone. There’s a viewing point on the left where you look over the cliff rocks towards the dam and another lookout to the right where you can directly see the dam. There’s drop toilets by the car park too. A must see! ⛰️
Melisa A — Google review
This is easily a must see when visiting Geriwerd. It is very rasy to drive to, the lookout is about a 30 second walk from the carpark, is wheelchair accessible and is absolutely stunning.

Giant Koala

Tourist information center
Just a quick stop for fun. Lots of Oz souvenirs, cafe etc. Note no public toilets, only for paying customers. But good photo ops of all the big things we have over Australia.
Andrea H — Google review
The souvenirs shop inside the Giant Koala was closed when I passed by it after 4pm during my road trip from Adelaide to Melbourne in Easter holiday. The Giant Koala situated at Dadswell Bridge between Stawell and Horsham, and it is one of Australia’s iconic “Big things”. If they are open when you are driving along the Western Highway, you may take a break and stop for a snack or meal at the restaurant next to the Koala, or buy souvenirs and gifts inside the Koala. The Koala looked a bit weird and I just wanted to ask the designer why the Koala looked quite unhappy and for what reason the designer put some hairs inside the Koala's ears?😳 The Koala sculpture was erected in 1988, 37 years ago, so I am unsure if the designer can still answer my queries.
Pat C — Google review
The Giant Koala shifts with the sky — brooding beneath storm clouds, gentle in the morning sun. Australia’s biggest koala and one of the nation’s beloved “Big Things,” it has weathered years of bushfires, droughts, floods, and the pandemic, standing as a quiet symbol of resilience on the road to the Grampians. Inside, the café and souvenir shop run by Pat and Doug for over a decade carry an old charm that feels like stepping back in time. The old zoo may be gone, but the spirit of the place remains. Pause for a coffee, take home a plush toy or keepsake, and share a photo with this Aussie icon. Support it, so the Giant Koala’s many moods can be seen by generations to come.
Robert T — Google review
A gangsta in full costume was dancing in front of The Giant Koala when we arrived. He look like a serious G so we decided to let him finish dancing and I think they were shooting a music video because everywhere he danced, his camera-woman would follow. After 25 minutes my daughter got restless and just wanted to take her photo in front of The Giant Koala and go home because The Giant Koala was making her feel uncomfortable. G had plenty of energy because we waited a further 15 minutes for him to stop his hippity hop dance. It was captivating and irritating at the same time. Watching it was like staring into a campfire late at night when you feel sleepy and it’s drawing you in. So much so did we both feel it that my daughter suggested he was actually a wizard of sorts that was doing spells instead of dancing. After he finished, we shook off our campfire daze and approached The Giant Koala and asked it permission for a quick photo. Its eyes proceeded to pour out of its head like sand so maybe he was a wizard.

Mount William (Mount Duwil)

Mountain peak
Nature & Parks
Mountains
3,829-ft. high mountain with a trail to the summit & elevated views of the national park.
We’ve been coming to the Grampians for years but never had a chance to do this hike before. It is well worth the 2km hike up to the summit from the carpark. The round trip should take about 90 mins. The views are breathtaking at the top, and even better on the way down. Be aware the hike can be challenging depending on your fitness level. It’s a steady gradient up a sealed path. Take a jacket as it can be windy and chilly towards the summit. Once you get to the radio tower, walk past the fence and climb a few rocks to get to the summit. Do not miss this one!
Kanishka S — Google review
The highest peak in GramPians and by far the best view and trekking experience in Grampians / Halls Gap. Most of the journey can be done by car and then you reach a parking spot to finish the rest by foot. The trek is a bit steep and is nearly 2 kms. Nevertheless, the top view is absolutely worth it. You can view the whole of Grampians mountain ranges along with the surrounding plain lands. The air is fresh, gentle breeze and an amazing spot for star photography if visiting at night.

Highest peak at the Grampians National Park Steep but short walk, view rewarding!! Gets very windy at the top
Juliette — Google review
Get ready for cold and windand rather steep ascend at the beginning of the walk, it gets more level though and you may get rewarded (if not too clouded) with some stunning views.
Tonya P — Google review
Beautiful views during the walk and at the top. Fully bitumen road with a steady incline. 1.9km to the top so 3.8km return. I went first thing in the morning (in December so summer) and it was great cause I was in the shade of the mountain for the majority of the walk and I only crossed paths with a handful of people on my way back down.
Laura H — Google review
The drive up is fantastic, proving great views across the Grampians. The walk is straightforward and well worth the views at the top.
John K — Google review
A very strenuous climb to the peak, 'I would not recommend to those with walking or health difficulties'. If your still reading this, great, because the views are spectacular, and make sure that you have your camera. Each step up the grade reveals another distant peak or views of the balconies which surround Mt William to the north, west, and south. Beautiful escarpments rising from the valleys, and a huge drop to the eastern plains overlooking Halls Gap and to the distant wind farms. A small monument marker attributes the naming of this peak to Major Mitchell 1836. Also has pointers marking landmarks in the local regions. Very foggy on the day I made the climb, but didn't detract from the splendid vistas.
Linden J — Google review
Not the most interesting walk as you walk up the tarmac road built to access the communication towers. From the car park the road is quite steep at first but after a while becomes less steep. From about the half way mark there are plenty of great views to get the camera clicking. The trig point for the mountain is just behind the comms tower and gives nearly 360degree view of the area.

Truly one of a kind artwork, the elders and the two children, the generations of people who own the land. A landmark to celebrate the land, the stars, the beauty and the beliefs. The artwork is respectful about the past, hopeful about the future and will transcend the generations to come. The color selection is awesome. What's even more wonderful, is the day expressions on the faces.

By far, this was the highlight of our holiday. This artwork is not found on the street but had to drive an hour from Stawell where we were staying. It was worth the drive even the speeding fine on the way there. The picture will tell how fascinating this piece of artwork and how it was done on such huge canvas. Located on a secluded area and tours available for several Silo artworks on different places. Well recommended to people to see and be proud of this.

One of the top silo on the art trail, so good for an artist to capture indigenous australians as this represents our country. The detail is amazing as you can get a real feel of what they were trying to accomplish. Worth the trip

Majestic and so high definition. It's just mind boggling that the artist was able to create so much detail on such a difficult and large canvas. The images of Aboriginal people are surreal. What a brilliant stop on the Silo Art Trail! The new Rupanyup Silo Art by Aussie street artist Smug is absolutely stunning — bold, detailed and full of local heart. The mix of golden paddocks, farming life and those cheeky little blue wrens gives it a real Aussie charm. It perfectly captures the spirit of the Wimmera — proud, hardworking and connected to the land. Pull over for a photo, stretch the legs and soak it in — it’s country creativity at its finest. A top spot for art lovers, bird watchers or anyone who just loves a good a bit of colour in the bush.

We visited Best's Winery in Great Western today. We really enjoyed the self guided tour and then had a tasting with some delicious food. It was fantastic. Jess & her team were awesome. Highly recommended for anyone who likes wine, history & great hospitality.

We visited today…. And had an absolute delightful time…. Karina was fantastic - knowledgeable, fun and engaging… and along with the great wines and the cheeses … we had two great hours just grazing and appreciating a true iconic vineyard…. Without a doubt - if in the area - VISIT!

Best's Wines is a MUST stop for anyone travelling down the western hwy! I visited at the recommendation of a friend that lives near by on my way back to Melbourne and it was the best part of my day!!! The staff are super friendly and proud of what they do. I loved the self guided tour and history of the vineyard. The sparkling Shiraz was absolutely divine and the food is amazing! On top of all of that it's great value for money, I had a self guided tour, lunch, a wine tasting and took home 2 bottles that didn't break the bank! I can't wait to drop in again and share the experience with my husband next time we're in the area!!!

Do yourself a favour and go visit this vineyard!!! Absolutely beautiful experience to have, taste home made wine, together with some interesting vin history. Really good!

Fabulous wines, expert attention and great value to try exceptional wines. The top reds and vintage sparkling Shiraz were divine. The cellar door area looks like it’s straight out of a history book!
Gary R — Google review
Great place, wonderful wines especially the Pinot Noir. Service was a little rushed as if they were in a hurry to get us out. Odd with only 2 other couples in. Still overall a good experience. Disappointing that their wines were cheaper elsewhere than at the cellar door.

Absolutely fabulous old winery, worth a visit anytime! Beautiful original sheds, vines & delicious wines. Free self guided underground tour & complimentary fortified tastings. We enjoy visiting and taking friends there, never fails to intrigue & educate & delight!! 5 stars, everytime. Rustic, historic and genuine✨️

Thank you Kelly and Sue Ellen for a lovely afternoon. Your hospitality was so warm that we didn’t want to leave, not to mention your delicious wines and fantastic cheese platter. The cellar door is definitely worth a visit. How many wineries do you come across that have a self guided museum tour! Sorry for bombarding you both with a hundred history questions - your winery’s history is just so fascinating! We will visit again next time we are in the area.

Dropped in to Taltarni while on a motorbike ride. The facilities are great, but best of all was our host Lily and her dog Ronald. They provided excellent service in a dog friendly environment. My dog and I left very happy and will certainly visit again.

Wonderful dog friendly winery with an incredible menu of bespoke wine. Taste after taste, every bottle better than the last. Our hosts Annie and Lily were generous with their time, with helping us navigate the area as tourists, and fed us a delicious platter of antipasto. Top notch winery experience: we can’t wait to come back.

Such an amazing place! Annie was a great host. Very knowledgeable, accommodating and easy to deal with. An afternoon of relaxing music A must see place to visit for an afternoon of great wine & entertainment! highly recommend

We have loved Taltarni wines for many years now which we get here in WA, and were excited to be stopping in on our road trip through Victoria. It was one of the stops we had been looking forward to for a long time. The CD was absolutely amazing and all that we hoped it would be, we had very high hopes. Unfortunately Anne who looked after us left us highly disappointed, she clearly didn’t know much about the wines, we asked a few simple questions but her responses were rude, and she acted like we were interrupting her day. Having waited so long to go there, we left with only 2 bottles as we just wanted to get out of there. We still love the wines, at least they didn’t leave a bitter taste in our mouths.
Erin C — Google review
Dropped in there with friends for a cheese and meat platter and wine . Was very disappointed with the lack of knowledge from the woman serving- Anne - she was outright rude and was obviously lacking in her knowledge. She spoke very rudely to another staff member who looked embarrassed. The cheese platter wasn’t as good as the one we had last year. There was an amazingly knowledgeable woman last year who was friendly and helpful. We bought a lot of wine last year . But she was gone and had been replaced by this Anne who was just plain rude and had no idea about the wine. We left unhappy. We were going to book a large group for November but have decided to go elsewhere instead.

Annie ensured we had the most amazing experience tasting the wines available at Taltarnie. She also provided platters that were a delight, patient, knowledgeable a credit to the winery.

Came in for Easter weekend. The lady behind the bar was useless. Her customer skill were clearly lacking. And it was obvious she knew nothing about the wine she was pouring. Also the coffee was undrinkable. Taltarni use to be our favourite place to visit….we won’t be back

We had a very enjoyable tasting experience and lunch at Blue Pyrenees. We tasted all the wines available and found plenty that we liked. We particularly enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc and the Shiraz Marsanne. The staff were all very friendly and provided excellent service, particularly the lady who guided us through the tasting and organised our platter lunch. The platter was a good size with an interesting mix of very tasty food.

Absolutely fantastic experience with beautiful wines and incredible platter, Linda was lovely to talk with and described the wines great. Will definitely be back.

My wife and I had the best time at Blue Cafe just last Monday. Without a doubt Linda makes the most flavoursome hot and cold platter we have ever eaten and — we have eaten a great many on our travels. We love the variety, texture and diverse tastes on the platter washed down with a bottle of sparkling rose — a beautiful lunch outside in the sun with our dog Maisie. In fact this is our fifth platter here and it is by far our favourite winery destination. Linda is a star who remembers us and always makes us feel very welcome Great job Blue Pyrenees Ian and Jill

We visit at least once a year for the wonderful platters and wine. They cater to all our dietaries (gluten free, pescatarian) with ease and their kids menu is small but really well done.

Amazing food. Fabulous wines. Friendly staff. Edward & Linda are friendly and fun! Don’t leave without ordering the delicious House Platter (…it gets better every time… always something different to tantalise the tastebuds!) that pairs perfectly with any of the wines available. One of the best cellar doors in the state!

Amazing experience!!! Séan met us as we strode up to the cellar door and gave us an impromptu tour of the corking process for bubbles "methode tradionelle"...... absolutely intriguing! The freezing process following time on lees, the cork size pre insertion...... to see it in action was incredible!! Then upstairs for an amazing platter & wine tasting with Linda! That platter was next level......catering for our dietary requirements and also substantial!!! Linda's wine knowledge was exceptional! We will definitely be back.....and.......Linda, we hope you celebrated your birthday in style following dry July! 🙌🥂🎉

Farmers Markets
Talbot Farmer Market is a great place to find fresh vegetables in a lovely, open area with fresh air. Everything is organic with minimal chemicals, which is a big plus. The prices are competitive, making it a fantastic spot for those looking for healthy, high-quality produce. Definitely worth a visit for anyone who values fresh and natural foods!

Next market day 17th September 2023 //Excellent market. Good array of stalls from veggies, food, pies, community BBQ with sausages, hamburgers so reasonably priced, to the most delicious tomato sauce, preserves, jams and bric a brac to raise money for the community. You'll find this store outside the local post office and down another street. Then there's the best flaxseed oil from Stony Creek organics, the olives are delicious at very fair prices for certified organic, excellent honey and the best healing balms from a stall in the 'yard sale area'. It's a bit hidden but we'll worth looking. There was only one veggie store the day I went so I was a bit disappointed. I was also hoping to find a butcher there or supplier of local grassfed or organic meats. Loved the eggs from navigator region and the yummy pea shoots they sell. There's heaps to explore Museum is also open to have a look. The architecture is beautiful and the town is quaint. There are amenities of toilets, drinking fountain, playground and BBQs and seating area available. Lovely day out and after stop off at Clunes historic town to purchase handmade woolen socks and products. Will definitely be back again. Thank you♥️ Please give a thumbs up if you got value from my review 👍

Wow, what a fantastic market! And SOOO much bigger than I expected. Plus, the layout means you get a lovely meander through Talbot. Bring cash, the mobile reception for tap and go isn't fantastic.

What a beautiful village 14 k's out of Maryborough Vic. Gardens maintained by Volunteers. A nice place for an overnight stop in a B&B. You'd have to drive to Maryborough for dinner.

A fantastic market. Great fresh produce, vegetables, fruit, beautiful crummed mushrooms, bread, honey etc. Great variety of market stalls. A lot of different fresh cooked food to buy for lunch or a snacks. If your looking for a nice weekend away this would make a perfect stop on the Sunday. Or if your in the area do yourself a favor & drop in. On every 3rd Sunday of each month. Check out their wed sight for updates or changes. The photos are a very very small offering of what is truly there. Sorry didn't get more.

This place is really worth a look. Aside from the well reviewed food (which we didn't have) the station has been beautifully restored - hard to believe it only cost $1.6 million - probably would cost that much for a feasibility study in Melbourne and the detail is fantastic.

Grand old building. History laid on.
Tony W — Google review
After receiving state funding from Heritage Victoria the magnificent Maryborough Station underwent a 4‐year three-stage restoration of the façade, the slate roof and clock tower and glazed lantern covering the main carriageway platform completed in 2012. It is a tribute to the Victorian Railways, Architectural Works Department completed in 1890 as an outstanding example to the school of Victorian railway architecture developing a regional rather than national or international modern style. It is one of the finest examples in the country of Queen-Anne architecture which displays many hallmarks of the Anglo‐Dutch style which is enlivened at the roofline with gables and an asymmetrically placed clock tower. During the 1970’s much of the original facade ornamentation, the orbs, pedestals and ball-caps and rendered octagonal chimney crowns were sadly removed. These were carefully re-cast and reinstated as part of the restoration programme. The exterior was re-rendered using Adelaide ‘Brightonlite’ yellow-ocher oxide cement render. The residents of Maryborough were delighted with the result and applauded its face-lift and remarked “this is how it was meant to be” and how they could remember the way the station looked originally. An outstanding feature of Maryborough Station is its long platform covered by a continuous glazed lantern at the apex. This is said to be the longest single platform outside the Melbourne region and measures 1010 meters including the rail motor sidings. Today, Maryborough Station operates an art gallery emporium, a fully licensed restaurant in the grand dining hall (thanks Lloyd) and VLine post and freight services for passenger and goods trains. Maryborough Station is an exceptional country Victorian attraction and well worth the visit. Thank you and all the best, Chris Wilmar

5 stars for fine dinning Absolutely blown away by our dinner at Tuki Trout Farm last night. It was surprisingly quiet, which turned out to be a lucky break—we had an incredible, intimate dining experience. We ordered the set menu and every dish was a masterpiece, clearly crafted for true food lovers. All ingredients are sourced directly from the farm itself, and with their own butcher on-site, the quality of the meat was next level. The chef personally explained each dish, and every bite was full of rich, authentic flavor. The experience reminded me of dining at Attica—seriously that good. One of the highlights was watching the lamb being cooked right in front of us over the fire. The setting is charming too—the restaurant is set in a beautifully restored old horse stable, adding to the rustic, paddock-to-plate experience. This is hands down the best paddock-to-plate meal I’ve ever had. Zero food miles, incredible attention to detail, and a true celebration of local produce. I’ll definitely be coming back with my family—they’re big fans of fine dining. Can’t wait to try the other menu options next time!

5 stars for the food and the fishing experience. Would have gone higher! This was hands down the best meal we had while in Victoria. Superbly crafted and showcased the best local had to offer from the food to drinks etc. The fishing kept the teenagers enthused and saw many younger ones super excited! Everyone here was welcoming and proud of what they had. And so they should be. Terrific venue, location, food and service

We had a great day at Tuki. We ate in the restaurant, the food and service were excellent. The staff explained each dish and the food and drink were exceptional. Great local produce, beer and wine! After lunch we went fishing and caught a few trout. The team cleaned and processed the fish for us and we took them home to eat. The property is beautiful with great views. It was a great day and highly recommend!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Truly Special Experience at Tuki Trout Farm From the moment we arrived at Tuki Trout Farm, we were welcomed like family. The personal service was second to none—every member of the team, from the friendly owners and talented chef to the hardworking farm hands, went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable. Even the owners’ adorable grandson and their charming dogs added a warm, homely touch that made the experience even more special. The cottage was cosy and well-appointed, with breathtaking views that made for the perfect escape from the everyday. The surrounding landscape is simply stunning—rolling hills, tranquil lakes, and fresh country air. We were especially impressed by the quality of the food. The on-site restaurant showcases exceptional locally sourced ingredients, with a particular highlight being the farm’s own trout and lamb. Every meal was a celebration of fresh, honest flavours and true paddock-to-plate dining. Whether you’re after a romantic getaway, a peaceful retreat, or just a taste of authentic country hospitality, Tuki delivers on all fronts. Can’t wait to return!

What a fantastic experience! We had an amazing day at the trout farm — it’s such a relaxing, beautiful setting and a great way to unwind. The $80 package for a two-course meal and fishing was excellent value but just watch out for the 15% Sunday surcharge. The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, beautifully cooked. The added fun of catching your own fish made it even more memorable. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the whole place had a peaceful, friendly vibe. Highly recommend for a weekend escape or something a little different. We’ll definitely be back!

Absolutely wonderful stay at Tuki. The food was amazing and a credit to chef Julian who served us at the table. Wonderful hosts Robert and Jan made us and our furry kids feel so welcome. We will definitely be back!

Fantastic paddock to plate experience. You won't get a more personalised dining experience - we talked to the Chef and the owner of the farm, so we got the inside word about the fantastic local produce used in the dishes on the menu.
Peter A — Google review
I wish I could rate 10 stars!! This hidden gem was hands down one of the most special farm stay and paddock-to-plate experiences I've ever had. From the moment we arrived at Tuki, everything felt thoughtfully curated and deeply personal. The highlight was the 7 courses degustation dinner—every dish a celebration of local produce, beautifully prepared and presented. Chef Julien even came out personally to check in on us, which made the evening feel truly special. When they found out we’d just gotten engaged, we were surprised with a complimentary champagne—such a kind and thoughtful gesture. The stay itself was just as memorable: a cozy fireplace, a spa bath, views across the farm from bedroom and lounge area, locally roasted coffee, and fresh milk from the cows on site. Huge thanks to Chef Julien for the incredible meals and to Robert and Jan for creating such a welcoming, warm environment. We left feeling rested, full, and already planning our return trip!

Good town to live in, got ice-cream for $8 and it was better then what you get in the city, and saw lots of good looking cars new and old, and while I was there went to a local market didn't get anything but there were lots of cute and well made goods.
Mrspeghetti — Google review
Heritage railway station and a steam engine buffs delight. On the day we were there, the Royal Train was at the station and you could explore it for a small fee. Also, there is a good range of vintage rolling stock - both carriages and goods wagons - to photograph and explore. We weren't there on a day that the trains were running, but the Victorian Goldfields Railway (VGR) does run steam trains on certain days of the year. They have a website that you can check out for what is happening and when.
Peter R — Google review
The "Victorian Goldfields Railway" is an excellent example of a volunteer heritage railway. It runs between Maldon & Castlemaine, via Muckleford. There are lovingly restored Victorian Railways carriages & locomotives. I like the old leather seats & compartments. Such a luxury! Beats the coloured 'cushions' on the suburban trains. There's even a first class option, travelling in a sleeper carriage with observation platform at the end, or the one with leather upholstered tub chairs, & refreshments bar.
