Bigurda Trail

The Bigurda Trail is an 8 km one-way track that links Natural Bridge to Eagle Gorge, offering breathtaking views. It's a great way to explore the natural beauty of Kalbarri National Park, taking walkers through river gorges, cliffs, and plateaus. The trail features impressive reddish sandstone cliffs and beautiful flowers along the flat walk. During spring/summer, it's best to start early in the morning before strong winds pick up.
Loved this trail!! The cliffs are beautiful to look at it. The path requires some negotiation due to the rocks, but the scenery is worth it to be seen.
Alda C — Google review
We recently visited Kalbarri and tried a small section of this 8km (one-way) trail between the Natural Bridge (south) and Eagles Gorge (north) lookout points along the Kalbarri Coast, passing by Shell House and Grandstand viewpoints along the way. Not sure about doing the full trail unless you have two vehicles or can arrange pickup at one end or the other. The trail is mostly flat but covers quite a distance so be mindful of heat and weather conditions. We started at Natural Bridge and walked up to just over 2km up the trail before circling back, taking in lovely scenery, spotting kangaroos, feral goats, some interesting birdlife and quite a few whales breaching offshore. Some of the trail is natural while the section closest to the Natural Bridge carpark area is a boardwalk.
Brad — Google review
Pristine elevated coastal clifftop trail along the Indian Ocean. Located within Kalbarri National Park. Park fees required to enter with vehicle. Lookout platforms along the trail. Trail is clearly marked with trail markers. Trail followers the cliff-edge. Wildflowers in spring. Extreme heat and flies in summer. Trail is predominantly uneven rocks. Need healthy ankles. Sight whales during migration season. Kangaroos and other smaller wildlife along the trail. Modern national park standard toilets, sealed roads and carparks. Very quiet and little-used trail.
Jamie — Google review
Lovely walk & views, be aware there are somewhat steep sandy parts with lose rocks. The views are spectacular, saw some distant whales, and dolphins closer to shore. Nice place to site near the southern point (Natural Bridge) of the trail.
James M — Google review
I did not do the full Bigurda Trail, button instead did a 7.5 km loop from the southern end where natures Bridge is, all the way to grandstand and then back. I think this portion of the Bigurda Trail is the better part although the lookout at the southern end do get very busy around nature's bridge and island rock. Highlights of this trail include the freedom of walking along the cliff top, dolphins, whales migrating up the coast, birdlife, the Lookout points and just general natural beauty along the Kalbarri coast. The Browne Town.
Stephen B — Google review
Just stunning. How anyone can not rate 5 stars! Easy walking trails along drop dead gorgeous scenery. Lookouts to observe the natural wonder and beauty of the gorges. Seats for resting or just watching the world go by. Eco toilets are available. Plenty of parking also. Well worth the visit 😊
Tracey G — Google review
8 km hike one way. Impressive reddish sandstone cliffs. Beautiful flowers. 2-3 hrs. Flat walk. During the spring/summer months, make sure to do it early in the morning before SW wind starts blowing crazy. If in the afternoon, walk North direction (from Natural Bridge towards Eagle gorge). Toilets available at specific points along the trail. We hitched hike back to the car, too easy!
Juan G — Google review
Beautiful coastal walk with stunning views, amazing landmarks, wonderful wildflowers and the opportunity to see marine wildlife (we saw dolphins, whales, a seal and a sea eagle). The trail is mostly flat and in parts well developed. There are some sections which have quite a lot of rocks on the trail making for an uneven surface.

On the shoreline leading to Kalbarri is this little gem of beach. Park on the rocks and explore the twinkling red sandstone of Red Bluff. Breaming with sea life, amazing rock formations complemented by the crystal clear waters, it is a delight for all.

This spot at sunset is a must for those travelling through Kalbarri. Between the red rock formations and the beautiful white is perfection. Be careful if taking your vehicle onto the rocky edge as you will need 4WD. Beautiful spot if you want photos.

What a great place, we went not expecting much but spent 3 hours there enjoying all the beautiful gardens and the birds with their different characters. Such a well maintained place, a credit to the owners. The little cafe served toasted sandwiches for $5 and they were delicious.
Michelle T — Google review
Worth a visit and they do some great things for the parakeets. Plenty of undercover eating areas and good play area for kids to keep them occupied while you chill out and order something from the cafe. Friendly staff and a has a gift shop with plenty of items.
Risky R — Google review
This place although basic is amazing. Because its all been done by a family without any govt funding. The birds are beautiful. A lovely walk through area. And the waterfalls and tropical garden are very well done.
Sloane M — Google review
An enjoyable and well priced outing. The cages were exceptionally clean and the birds were amazing. The walk through aivery was large with a variety of free flying birds. A well kept natural environment mixed with tropical plants and water features resulting in a pleasurable experience. A lovely little display of students research and observational drawing of the birds too.
Kerry T — Google review
Alot of beautiful and colourful birds. Some are talkative and are friendly and love to pose for pics📷🐦📸. You can take a walk thru the open aviary or sit at the cafe and listen to all the birds while the kids play in the kids area or get lost in the maze. My favorite was a 2.5 year old Red Maccaw named Malachi who would follow me around the cage when I spoke to him and even let me pat him💖💖💖.
Samarra R — Google review
Absolutely amazing! The ladies running it are beautiful people and the gift shop was actually affordable too which made me and my little girl very happy. We all left with smiles on our faces and an experience well never forget! It's not just great for the kids either, it's peaceful for all ages. Some of the birds really seemed to love the company of people aswell, they're well cared for and just beautiful.
Teagan M — Google review
What a hidden gem. We have been in Kalbarri for a couple of months and wished we had stumbled upon it earlier. Venue was great the menu was good and affordable and the gift shop was the best we have seen in a long time
Leanne A — Google review
The owners were friendly and fantastic. The birds were very well looked after and the cockys were great showman or women. Hamish the sulfa creasted had attitude and was trying to tunnel itself out.... The place looks like the sea has played a toll on some of the enclosures metal with the rust but I'm sure the birds dont mind.

The Kalbarri Visitor Centre is well-equipped with friendly staff and abundant information material, making it a crucial stop before visiting the national park. Visitors can expect a warm welcome and valuable insights about the area's attractions from the staff, such as interesting stories and recommendations for lesser-known places. The center also offers a variety of souvenirs for those looking to take home authentic Australian items.
This was a great stop to buy tickets for the national parks (they have pay on entry machines as well). Had a chat with the lovely ladies who worked here, they were able to give us advice on routes to walk and what times would be best to see certain places - very thankful for there advice!
Lauren M — Google review
Stopped by the Kalbarri Visitor Centre along Grey Street in the centre of Kalbarri and found this to be a good source of information for local tourism. They had maps, update on trail closures in the NP due to recent flooding. Staff seemed friendly and knowledgable. A fair amount of souvenirs, clothing and other related merchandise available as well.
Brad — Google review
Kalbarri lovely place but not very friendly towards people that are only stopping for 24 hours or those that just need a rest stop. A 24 hour stop would help- as the road campaign says “ DONT DRIVE TIRED” . We always spend a lot of money in to small business when this is offered. Anyway we found a 24 rest stop just before the “ Welcome to Kalbarri “ sign. Ocean views and a beautiful sunset. A little close to the road but it’s fine for 1 sleep . Will review the Kalbarri attractions tomorrow

I went in here hoping they would have souvenirs as I didnt need any of your typical information about what to do ehile staying in Kalbarri. The tourist info centre has LOTS of local souvenirs which i was delighted with!! Well done.

Hamelin Pool Telegraph Station

Historical landmark
Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Hamelin Pool Telegraph Station is a historic site located within the Shark Bay World Heritage Area in Western Australia. It was originally established as a telegraph station in the late 1800s as part of the Overland Telegraph Line, which connected Western Australia with the rest of the country. The telegraph station played a crucial role in communication during that era. In addition to its historical significance, Hamelin Pool is also known for its unique marine stromatolites. These ancient microbial structures, which resemble small rock-like formations, are some of the oldest forms of life on Earth and offer valuable insights into the planet's early history. Visitors to Hamelin Pool can learn about both the history of telecommunications in Australia and the fascinating biology of stromatolites, making it a popular stop for tourists exploring the Shark Bay region.
TukTuk T — Google review
Had a quick stop at the campgrounds for a toilet break but it wasn't available for general public. Had a look while in the car and it looked interesting. not sure if you're able to go in though. Like the other places, plenty of flies buzzing about.
Benedict U — Google review
Really informative tour about the stromatolites and telegraph station. Only $5 per adult and kids were free. Tour was 45mins and even our kids (who are under 10) sat through the videos and talk. They even remembered some of the facts which showed they were engaged. Recommend everyone to do tour and help support this working piece of history.
Chris M — Google review
This small post would be the perfect settings for movies set in the past century. It clearly shows how life must have been tough in the past. Most buildings seem to have been left untouched. At the centre of the village there is the telegraph station, but other buildings are interesting as well. It is a perfect spot to park before going to the stromatolites. But note that it can be very hot during the summer!
Enrico A — Google review
The original telegraph station established in the late 1800's when communication around the state was via morse code. Now not part of the modern communications network and located within the Hamelin Pool caravan park, it has been converted to a museum (open and tour at 3pm most days). The museum focus is the telegraphy, the stromatolites nearby and the general exploration history of this part of WA. Well worth a visit especially if staying in the caravan park.
Robert S — Google review
When we arrived, the museum was closed so we were unable to go inside so we could only just look around outside. I still enjoyed the look around, just missed the inside this time.
Jeff O — Google review
Cool telegraph station built in 1884. There's a cute little caravan park right there, you'll pass through on your way to the stromatolites, but not really worth making a special trip.
Sarah W — Google review
Fantastic campsite with real Australian and world history. First there were Stromatolites, then Shell rock and with humans came the telegraph.
Laurence J — Google review
drove thru to take some pics and stop for a cuppa and possibly book for our next adventure. Lady came out following our cars and rudley asked what we were doing there. Explained to her why we came thru. Even though we were driving slow, slow enough for her to walk alongside our car, told us to stop making dust! We proceeded to leave and will waste our money elsewhere. Group of 8!

Pink Lake Lookout

Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
The lake looks pink at a certain angle. It’s recommended to come when it’s hot and sunny, perhaps between 10-3pm or otherwise you can’t see the pink hues of the lake. We came during start of spring and the place was beautiful. We even spotted a flock of migratory birds. The water is not too cold so feel free to take a soak into the salted lake. Worth a visit and popular with the locals too.
ExDee — Google review
There was many tourists there when we went past. It was a little hard to park with a van. We found a spot away from where there were tourists taking a 1,000 photos in every pose imaginable 🤔🙄. Worth a stop if you are going past. It is an interesting phenomenon.
Tomo T — Google review
This place is a bit over promoted. The colours and patterns of the lake are best viewed from a drone or aeroplane. The lookout area can be busy at times. There are other spots around Hutt Lagoon that are less visited. On a grey day at ground level, the lake can be disappointing.
Michael S — Google review
This lookout was great to observe the pink lake from up close. Its pigmentation was incredible and allowed very pretty photos. There are many different points of that lookout meaning even at a very crowded time you got some personal space to take photos with family. Much recommended!
Juliette S — Google review
Long drive from the airport to this place. About 4hours ride. We overnight at pinnacles desert & star gazing. If a group of friends definitely worth to have such long drive. Not recommended for solo or couple trip as the pink lake not that fantastic, to me is not a must visit attractions by the hours of driving.
Bryan N — Google review
I do recommend that everybody makes the detour to see pink lake. However I do think that the best value from this comes from the air so to properly appreciate the size and colour of it. I think you're better off if you have a drone. That does not mean that the lookout is not worth visiting if you don't. I just don't think you get a proper appreciation for the size and scale of the lakes as well as the colour, as it sits next to the ocean in contrast with the pink and blue colours. The Browne Town.
Stephen B — Google review
Stunning, you won’t believe your eyes. Lots of tourists taking photos. Water is extremely salty but you can walk in / swim if you want. Best time to visit for best colour is when sun is high in the sky - 10am-2pm.
Natalee C — Google review
An excellent spot to have a good look at the Pink Lake and take some good photos. You can even go down the slope and reach the water from there. Although, there are not too many parking spaces there and no public facilities like public toilets.

Nain, Capital of the Autoproclamed Principality of Hutt River

Federal government office
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Western Australia, Nain is the capital of the self-proclaimed Principality of Hutt River. While it may not be a must-see destination for everyone, if you find yourself nearby, it's worth stopping by for a unique experience. Visitors often have the chance to meet Prince Leonard, who is known for his warm hospitality and captivating stories about his principality's history. His down-to-earth demeanor makes him an approachable figure despite his royal title.
Worth a visit to support great Australians taking a stand against our greedy and wasteful government.
James B — Google review
Unfortunately this place is no longer open for visit! It would have made an amazing tourist attraction but it seems the news owners are wasting that opportunity. There is just a locked gate.

I don't think it's worth the detour to go and visit this place. However if you are in the neighborhood then yes, have a break there. You will even meet the Prince and he has a lot of stories to tell.

Z Bend

Mentioned on
27 lists
Scenic spot
Sights & Landmarks
Lookouts
Z Bend is a stunning feature in the Murchison River Gorge, characterized by its sharp turn and flowing water at the base of large cliffs. The area offers picturesque views with orange-red cliffs contrasting against dark green foliage. A 600-meter track leads to the Z Bend lookout, providing some of the best views in Kalbarri National Park with minimal walking effort. Visitors can enjoy picnic tables and BBQ grills at this scenic spot.
Z-bend is a stunning part of the Kalbarri gorge. You can admire the view from the lookout, just a short walk from the car park, or hike down into the gorge for a closer look. If you’re feeling extra-adventurous, you can even hike all the way around to Fourways then come back to the car park that way. Bring plenty of water as there is no drinkable water available here.
Jeff R — Google review
Amazing trail — absolutely loved it! The whole walk was heaps of fun with all the ups and downs, ladders, and rocks to climb over. The river at the end was such a great reward. Beautiful view, and my boys had a blast skimming stones. Perfect distance too — not too long, not too short. 100% worth doing!
Sinta P — Google review
Doing the Z bend River Trail I would give it more than five stars if I could. This is arguably my favourite hike in Western Australia along with bald head in Albany. You don't have to do the full river trail you can just walk down to the lookout which is a nice and easy walk and accessible to most people. If you do decide to go down to the river trail, it is not a difficult walk but it does involve some climbing of ladders and hopping down and up rocks but it is not a long walk at all and most of the time you have shade because you are in the gorges amongst the rocks. Beautiful views combined with a little bit of a more adventurous walk and this is a highlight in Kalbarri National Park for me. The Browne Town.
Stephen B — Google review
Fantastic views and beautiful wildflowers to see along the way! Make sure to visit in September if you want to see the floral display!
Lauren — Google review
Though challenging in parts, Z Bend River Trail will reward you with stunning river views, rock features and wild flowers. Be prepared for ladders and steep trails. Thoroughly recommend!
Natalee C — Google review
Considered a class 4 hike, felt more like a 3 but with some more challenging rock climbing and some ladders. Not hard in terms of length or elevation so young kids (comfortable with hiking) can do this easily. Go early! You'll almost get the place to yourself.
Bruno L — Google review
A slightly longer walk and more steps than the nature's window but the view is still worth it.
Mark C — Google review
This is a fun trail. Highly recommend it. If you visit in summer go early in the day. I visited in June and it was an easy do in the middle of the day.

Town Beach

Mentioned on
4 lists
Beach
Nature & Parks
Town Beach is an urban sandy beach protected by a 164-ft. groyne, making it ideal for swimming, especially for families with small children. The foreshore has been recently regenerated and offers a pleasant area for strolling and relaxation. Visitors can also explore the surrounding area, which includes the otherworldly pink lake, Hutt Lagoon, and embark on unique adventures such as scenic flights from Geraldton or day trips to the Abrolhos Islands.
A beautiful place to sit and relax in the evening hours.
Aqib K — Google review
Roughly 200 metres long, Geraldton’s main beach is directly west of the city’s marina, continuing as far as a long seawall on the east side of the port, known as the Esplanade. The seawalls at each end of the beach help keep the ocean currents away, and the surf is rarely more than knee height. As we’ll see later, the foreshore of Town Beach has been completely regenerated in the last few years and is fine for strolling. Geraldton’s CBD and its many independent and chain restaurants is also just behind. Right on the beach there’s a couple of cafes, as well as the gigantic Geraldton Foreshore Playground and Water Park, which has three distinct play areas and a range of water features, perfect for hot days.

Geraldton Visitor Centre

Mentioned on
6 lists
Visitor center
The Geraldton Visitor Centre, located on Marine Terrace next to the foreshore, is not only a convenient facility for visitors but also a remarkable piece of Geraldton's history. Housed in a historic wooden building dating back to 1878, which was the first railway station on a government line in Western Australia, the center preserves fascinating elements from its past. It serves as an excellent resource for special events and seasonal information.
Encourage you to make dropping by the Visitor center as one of your first stops in Geraldton. Perhaps you'll meet two local superstars, Melinda and Lorraine, who will guide you expertly as they did with me. Such wonderful hospitality and small town warmth. They brought substance to a nunber of destinations I was hesitant about seeing. Thanks to this awesome twosome!
David V — Google review
Nice place to visit. 2 unisex toilets available outside the building close to the parking area. We were there too early and the visitor center yet to open, so we only took some photos outside the building and move to our next destination:)

Do yourself a favor and visit the information center in Geraldton to get all the area information. Nothing was to much trouble and the lady went out of her way to answer all of our questions. Many thanks Lynn and Geoff. Ps we got a turtle 🐢.

The Visitors Centre is housed in a beautiful old building. Small art gallery and visitor information works well. Nice street art at the back of the building.
Ross S — Google review
A beautiful place. The beach, positivity, imagination, having respect for our place in nature, and the environment are among the issues that are discussed the most frequently. The most pleasurable and cost-effective way to have an experience that is analogous to visiting a museum or an art exhibition, as well as the one that provides the greatest satisfaction.
Aqib K — Google review
I honestly didn’t expect Geraldton to be this busy — in the best way possible. I was imagining a quiet coastal stop a few hours north of Perth, but what I found was a vibrant city buzzing with life, charm, and so much more than I anticipated. Tucked along the turquoise edge of the Indian Ocean, Geraldton has that easygoing seaside feel, but with all the amenities and energy of a larger town. It caught me off guard how well it balances natural beauty, history, and modern comforts. I came here for a break, and found myself swept up in everything the city has to offer. The beaches are stunning — perfect for a swim, windsurfing, or just relaxing with a coffee from one of the surprisingly good local cafés (seriously, the café scene here is thriving). One of the most moving stops for me was the HMAS Sydney II Memorial. It’s not just a beautiful monument, but a deep reminder of the history this region holds. And then there’s everything nearby: wildflower trails, the unreal Pink Lake which are just incredible. I kept discovering more and more to do — way more than I’d planned for. What struck me most, though, was the community vibe. Friendly locals, art popping up in unexpected places, good food, and a sense that this is a place people truly love. Geraldton feels like a hidden gem that’s somehow still under the radar, but buzzing with life and intention. It’s the kind of place that surprises you — and then stays with you.

I walked into the information centre and the lady behind the counter was nice and helpful and asked me did I need anything I had a look around and they had a good range of knick knacks they had a lot of information on the area I found the place to be quite nice outside they had the old 50 Cent spinning wheel that you was able to sit on and spin around I got some nice photos of it overall information centre was quite nice from mwh
Michael B — Google review
Went here to get an art map of Geraldton to do the tour of the area. Lady at the infodesk helped me out inmediately. The map itself wasn't quite accurate and clear. I suggest you go down Main Terrace starting fron the visitor centre and do as many side streets as possible. Including passing through a mall area to get out in another street. Then, close the art walk loop by passing parallel to Main Terrace but along the Foreshore. Once again, take your time to spot the street art work. The thematics are mostly Environment, Respect Our Place In Nature, Beach, Positivity and Imagination. The cheepest museum/exhibition like art work admiration you can do and totally satisfying!

Churches & Cathedrals
St Francis Xavier's Cathedral, located in Geraldton, is a stunning Roman Catholic church that was constructed between 1916 and 1938. Designed by Monsignor Hawes, it is considered one of his finest works. The cathedral features a central dome and twin towers, showcasing remarkable craftsmanship from over a century ago. Visitors can explore the interior and learn about the building's history through guided tours or visit the small museum on site.
Visiting St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral in Geraldton was a wonderful experience. The architecture, which is over 100 years old, is truly stunning and a testament to the craftsmanship of that era. Inside, there's also a small museum that offers a deeper insight into the history of the cathedral and the local community. The peaceful and reverent atmosphere makes it a perfect place for reflection. Additionally, the Cathedral Parish Office has a selection of religious goods available for purchase. Overall, it's a must-visit if you're in Geraldton, whether for its historical significance, spiritual ambiance, or the museum.
Albin K — Google review
Fabulous place to visit, decorated a bit differently to the normal Cathedral or Church but has the most beautiful stained glass windows, fabulous statues, a very grand looking organ near the altar and another on a balcony overlooking the altar. The staff are very knowledgeable about all aspects of the Cathedral and willing to talk and answer questions with passion
Lesley-Jane W — Google review
I rated St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral really highly mostly for its architectural beauty and being such a standout landmark within the city of Geraldton. It's worth spending some time here, especially around the outside but if you do get an opportunity to walk through the inside that also offers some value as well. Make sure to come by after sunset or before sunrise to see the church lit up which adds a different element. The Browne Town.

Beautiful cathedral right in the middle of town which was empty when we arrived in the mid-afternoon on a Sunday. The building and grounds have been maintained very well and it has a unique catacombs which you can peek in from the ground floor. Pity we could not go down or up to see as there was no one about.
Jeremy K — Google review
We came to visit on a weekend and the cathedral had stunning architecture. There’s also a gift shop and cafe nearby.

Beautifully explained to a group of us as guide directed our gaze and thoughts to the splendour of the cathedral.Having seen many in Europe this little gem is worth a look if you're a fan of Monsignor Hawes.

Museum of Geraldton

History Museums
The Museum of Geraldton is a local history museum that offers a fascinating exploration of indigenous, European, and natural history. It features the famous Shipwrecks Gallery, showcasing the wrecks of HMAS Sydney (II) and HSK Kormoran through high-quality 2D and 3D images. Visitors can also enjoy other exhibits such as old medical instruments, natural artifacts, and displays exploring the region's rich history.
What a truly remarkable museum, especially for a small city like Geraldton! I visited the museum based on the recommendation of a couple whom I had a chance meeting with while traveling through Northampton. They raved about the displays and the free entry. They were right. Super-sized gift and souvenir area to check out. Very friendly and helpful staff as I had the good fortune to speak with Ebony. Make the museum a stop for you while in Geraldton!
David V — Google review
It’s definitely worth a visit! The guide was friendly and enthusiastic throughout the tour. The museum’s sections are beautifully and clearly displayed, and there’s even a 3D cinema room. However, a few areas were a bit dim, which made the information hard to read. The souvenir shop also had lots of interesting items.
Quentin D — Google review
The museum is free entry. They work on donations are strongly recommend everybody donates because this is a great activity to do in Geraldton. There is nothing information here that you could easily spend about four hours but you can get through a little bit quicker if you skip over some of the informational plaques. There is information on the indigenous history, the history of the settlers, the Murchison River, the shipwrecks from the Dutch East India trading company off the coast near Geraldton and the Abrolhos Islands, and plenty of other interesting generic information such as things about the wildlife the Leeuwin current and the Point Moore Lighthouse as well. I can't speak highly enough of the museum. To me it is the perfect size - where you can easily get lost for a number of hours, but not too large that you can't get through the whole thing in one day. The location is right on the marina so before or after your visit you can enjoy a nice walk along the marina. The Browne Town.

This was an awesome collection the guide had great knowledge & could answer any questions regarding the collection & then some was a good morning of history for us as we visited the HMAS 1,1 site before hand

What a lovely place to get off the main road and stay a night... or week and have a rest. Lovely scenery and awesome hosts. The hosts surely know how to entertain their visitors. Went for a lovely walk through the gorge, water, friendly fellow campers, camp fire and great meals at a really good price.
Philip R — Google review
Beautiful location, Scones were delicious, staff chatty, ablutions clean. We stayed later the next morning to have breakfast at their cafe, (opened at 9) but when we went in at 9 were told they weren't serving breakfast as they were expecting a bus load of visitors from a cruise and were too busy, NOT HAPPY JAN!! we could have been nearly half way home if we had left at 7 as planned.
Lynn F — Google review
Really enjoyed our 3 night stay here! Lovely part of the world run by a lovely family who work so hard to make everyone at the campsite feel welcome. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, especially in the evenings around the campfire lit by the hosts. The homemade scones are a must in the cafe!
Eddy B — Google review
Rustic, charming and simple campground approx 4hrs north of Perth. The grounds contain a group of buildings that show how people lived in the 1860s. They are pretty intact and you can visit the homestead which is set up like a museum and contain old antiques and furnishings. My friends found this place because they saw it on some ghost busters website. Unfortunately the homestead was closed to a dust storm and now to an electrical fault. (Yay, no ghost hunting for me). There’s a small cafe that opens 8-2 where you can have scones and Devonshire tea but we passed on the opportunity because they were frozen and warmed up and we preferred freshly baked. Theres a fire pit from 5pm... roast some marshmallows and sit back for a yarn. The camp kitchen is basically a well equipped shed. There’s 1 female shower and 3 toilets. I’m sure there’s the same male facilities. All in all its good and OK for what you pay to stay there.
Nicole C — Google review
A quiet inexpensive little hide away spot to spend a few nights parked in a paddock. Host very friendly. No power. Toilet and shower. Cafe. Historic buildings you can tour at a small fee. Communial fire at Cafe. We did not spend alot of time looking around as it rained for most of the time we were there.
Julie W — Google review
Beautiful place, we just stop by to take some pictures. Wish we had time to try the famous scones. But to tell you the truth, the location is quite far from other places. Probably won’t go there if its not on our way to Kalbarri

The HMAS Sydney II Memorial in Geraldton is a significant tribute to the sailors lost at sea during World War II. Situated on a hilltop overlooking the city and the Indian Ocean, this memorial features an eternal flame, a stele, and a pool. It commemorates the Australian ship HMAS Sydney and the German cruiser Kormoran, displaying the names of hundreds of lost men.
Really moving place. The memorial is beautifully done and the view over Geraldton is awesome. Cool to learn the story behind it too. Peaceful spot—definitely worth stopping by if you're in town.
Athul A — Google review
Our visit to this memorial was made extra special by Trevor, the volunteer guide. His ability to add some moments of humour to this tragic tale was masterful and a very polished delivery. Having serve aboard HMAS SYDNEY III during the Vietnam War, I felt a deep connection with the loss of so many young Aussie sailors. RIP Mates.
Gary M — Google review
Beautiful memorial, located on Mt Scott overlooking Geraldton, a tribute to the sailors lost when HMAS Sydney II was sunk on 19 Nov 1941. The dome of silver souls was very pretty. The waiting woman and stele symbolising the bow were very meaningful along with the wall of rememberence for the 645 sailors. Would absolutely recommend visiting. Plenty of parking.
We C — Google review
Along with Saint Francis Xavier's Cathedral this was a clear highlight and stand out of things to do in Geraldton. There has been a lot of thought put into the design and the layout with concentric circles, domes spheres and a lot of symbolism in what has been chosen to represent each different part of the memorial. I came here twice, once in the afternoon and the following day at sunrise. The area is kept clean, there are toilets nearby and it is a great place to come and reflect as well as a great place to take photos. There are informational plaques, the dome of souls made up of 645 seagull figures that represent the lives lost in the sinking of the HMAS Sydney two, there is a circle of remembrance, a stele monument with the Australian flag on top, a centrepiece with a replica ships propeller and other fine details to walk around and learn about. The Browne Town.
Stephen B — Google review
What a beautiful acknowledgement to the crew members of the fateful warship. Set upon the hill overlooking the ocean. The most poignant piece was of a forlorn woman looking out over the sea watching & waiting for her loved one to return. That & the names of those who didn’t return home. Thank you.
Di H — Google review
I proposed to my girlfriend of four years at this perfect spot when the sun was setting. Stunning landscape view overseeing Geraldton.
ExDee — Google review
The circle of life and death is embodied in this Memorial. Well appointed, considered and maintained, the memorial's many elements speak to soul. If you spend the time to take in the surrounds, and read the plaques, it makes for a poignant and moving experience.

There are public bathrooms nearby & quite a few caravan parking spots. There are also heaps of sheep "art" along the highway. Genius marketing by the Northampton council. It is worthile taking a walk to grab a pie & coffee, and popping into all of the stores for a look.

Great souvenirs inside and old war relics outside
Wil ( — Google review
We have spent three nights in Northampton, visited the visitors centre twice and both times encountered very helpful ladies. The RSL complex is very informative. Informative in main street about the AFL players from this area is interesting. As recommended we went to the motors and machinery display, very worthwhile. Beautully kept gardens throughout the town. The sheep are an attraction. However, the botanic line walk did not deliver. We could see a lot of work had gone into setting up this botanic garden but it's now being choked out with weeds of all types, wild oats, Cape weed, Patterson's Curse, sour sobs, couch grass, all growing through the pathway as well as the gardens. A big disappointment! Would not recommend that walk to anyone.

This was my first visit to the Lavender Valley Farm. It is so beautiful, peaceful and so lovely out there, the atmosphere was fantastic and the suroundings were so unbelievable. If you ever want to hold an event or function there please do so, you won't be disappointed. They have a fully serviced kitchen and nice sized hall for all functions/events.

It was a beautiful venue for a family memorial. Well supervised, good parking. Nice to have separated parking for family mourners. Nice sandwiches and bottle of water.
Eleanor M — Google review
Drove all the way out there, hoping to take cute photos then to be turned around as there was a “wedding in progress” nice to know that before we got there then to be turned away. Not posts on Facebook book alerting us that it was on. Not coming back.

Lavender Valley Farm is a delightful place to visit but also to host your special occasions such as weddings etc. The hosts are extremely welcoming and friendly and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. The function centre comes with a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of fridge and freezer space for all your catering requirements. The function room can accommodate a small gathering to a fairly large gathering. It has picturesque views out to a beautiful lawn area as well as views over the Lavender and surrounding countryside. Lavender Valley Farm is a hidden little treasure just outside of Geraldton and well worth holding your function there.

Nice food. The kitchen lost our order. When they realised, they apologised and offered free coffee and cake for afterwards. The meals then came quickly and after we enjoyed cake on the house. The coffee was not to our taste. We will be back though!

Unplanned visit, as we were passing by and wanted to stretch our legs. For such a small place, it gave us some really fond and memorable moments. The favourites were all the extremely curious and entertaining talking parrots - one said ‘Don’t go’ and we did a bit mimicking movements with the other. Priscilla the large ostrich wouldn’t leave our sight, and it was quite a funny experience to feed the emus, and of course the kangaroos.

Fantastic spot. Great interactive experience. Better than Perth zoo in my opinion. Old Douglas, the croc is a big boy! Must be 4 to 4.5M Hidden gem this one,

Great crocodile feeding and educational talk today, my kids loved it. Staff were super friendly, the animals were so chill and loved the kids feeding them.

Greenough Wildlife & Bird Park is a fantastic spot for a family outing, especially if you have kids. The entry fees are reasonable, with $15 for adults, $10 for children over 2 years old, and free admission for kids under 2. We spent about 3 hours here, and it was worth every penny. The park is filled with friendly animals, including sheep and kangaroos, which the kids absolutely loved. You can even feed the animals for $4 per packet, which adds to the fun. It's a great place to spend quality time with your children, and the kids had a blast interacting with the animals. Highly recommended!
Albin K — Google review
It is worth the ticket price. But the cages for some animals (such as the birds, dingos and lizards, etc) could be a little bit more spacious. It’s a good experience overall especially compared to Perth Zoo.

Really nice cafe to stop off for a coffee or a meal, friendly staff, delicious food and good coffee. Interesting “village” to take a walk through and there’s the option to feed the llamas!

Had lunch outdoors at this gorgeous cafe with beautiful views of a historical settlement and alpacas grazing in a field. Food was yummy and atmosphere was great especially on a sunny day like what we experienced. Would have given 5 stars but service was a bit slow as they were crowded and the cashier was a bit grumpy. Other than that we enjoyed ourselves.
Jeremy K — Google review
Quaint little cafe, filled with knick knacks to buy, and after your meal, you can go feed the alcapas as well! It was a nice stop-over for lunch as we headed back to Perth City.

An absolutely lovely place to visit and dine in. The ambience is so charmingly old world, with historic buildings and exhibits to explore, and the food is definitely worth the trip. The seafood basket was amazing, everything so fresh, with the fries crisp to the very last one. The scones truly are the best I have ever had, anywhere in the world and I have tried many, in many countries, including England and Scotland. The owners are warm and incredibly welcoming. They even gave us a complimentary sampling of a new ice cream flavour they were testing out, that was not on the menu. If you have not been here yet, it should definitely be on your list!
Denise F — Google review
Amazingly beautiful place. Historical pieces beautifully preserved to showcase. It's a self-guided tour to the old buildings, a ticket for which you can take at the cafe counter. There are also some Lamas which always Rome around and you can feed them too. It was an awesome experience!.
Aqib K — Google review
Worth stopping to explore this peaceful place. Of the 11 buildings, 1 was closed for repairs when we visited in early Nov. Some interesting exhibits. There's an entry fee to support its upkeep. We arrived a little later than 2:30 and as seems the norm these days the cafe was already closing up for 3pm so we felt we couldn't order any food etc so I can't comment on the cafe fare. However, we could stay exploring the grounds to 4pm when the grounds keeper came to lock up.

Owners are super welcoming and informative on all their activities. Location is shady with a nice breeze. Park is well kept with drinks and ice cream available. $70 Got our family of 4, 11 targets of archery, 9 hole mini golf and a game of crocket all wrapped in approximately 2.5 hours of laughter, concentration and fun. We would definitely recommend and we will definitely come back and try the many other games they have available (about 5 others) NO GO-KARTS but still a great way to get your game on with your family and relax.

The park has new owners. They are doing a great job. It's good this has stayed open. The birds are gone, but there are more activities than I remember. There are less foam animal targets, which might please some, but I found it a little disappointing. We were a largish group, and Paul took the time to come see how we were doing. We have visited 3 times before, and this is the first time that has happened. I will definitely be back next time I am in Dongara.

Beautiful spot along the river with a nice gorge, you can't swim here but you can use kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. I only wish there were more camp spots along the river away from the main area which gets overly crowded and busy. Entry is free. You can camp for a maximum of five nights. Ellendale pool is about 40 minute drive to Geraldton. The Browne Town.

Beautiful spot for a free camp. The road towards to Ellendale Pool can be closed due to flooding, so you would want to look it up pending on the season youre in. Meningitis also may be present in the water, so would not recommend swimming. A lot of people did but just be aware of it and read the signs. Overall beautiful spot for an overnight stay.

Incredible architecture, reminded me of stone cloisters in Ireland...and the church entrance was as intriquing as Rosslynn Chapel in Scotland...it had a similar quirky personal architecturral expression

Met Rachel at the information centre today. Great personality, great knowledge, and very helpful. I wish all information centres had a Rachel. Diana

Perenjori is the place to go to see the wreath wildflower when in season. Pay a visit to the Info Centre and cute little Museum. Don't forget to ask the staff where to see thw wreath wildflower and they will draw you a mud map to follow. It's not far out of Perenjori. These unique wildflowers are amazing.
Aussirose T — Google review
Knowledgeable locals share their Intel on what to do in the area. Where the wildflowers are, road conditions and access, the best walks and key things to look out for. Super helpful and worth paying a visit.

This place was fantastic. It was such a small place on that we thought there would be nothing interesting inside but it was jam-packed inside with all sorts of interesting things. It really makes you feel old when you can walk around and point out all the things you remember from your childhood.

What a great museum, one of the best we’ve visited. Definitely a must visit place. A credit to the owners and the town.

I finally had the time to look at the museum last week after having driven past it several times. It is unexpectedly good - some beaut old photographs, a few very surprising historical events documented, and shed-loads of old cars, machinery, etc. If you don't find something in here to interest you, you're probably dead from the neck up.

Went in there to get the kids a small gift on my way through. A very lovely lady asked what ages, went out the back and gave me some gifts for them for free. There is also a lot of information, the radio telescope was very interesting as I had seen it mentioned on a documentary before but never seen it for real.

Helpful and supportive service staff to all that drop in..Our 2nd visit in 4 years & always a pleasure to visit.A collection not to be missed.Rabbit Proof Fence movie and more.

Fantastic museum, but was put off by the youngish dark haired girl at reception. She seemed completely disinterested when I asked her questions and a hint of a smile would have been welcome. Been there previously and staff were friendly and informative.

It’s worth to have a look. We spent around 45 mins in this museum.

Very well set out visitors centre. A very lovely and helpful lady was knowledgeable on everything in the area. The museum is good. There is a small entrance fee to help with upkeep.

Excellent small information centre, has all information we required, happy, friendly helpful staff.

Helpful and provided the information we needed to enjoy the town and surrounds.

As with all the information centres, call in and say G'day. They are always friendly and polite. They are upto date with what's happening and which roads to avoid. I know that's their job, but use them. They can plan a short or long itinerary for you, depending on your time frame. You quite often find out about stuff that's not in the books or on google. These ladies and gents are terrific and do a great service. We found out about Lake Ballard and the figures. Had heard about them, but no idea where they were. Ta da, a nights camping most enjoyed. Thanks.

Friendly, happy and helpful lady. Caravan park behind is fairly new, great for a night or two's rest. Interesting rock and gemstone display in the visitor centre.

Hoover House Bed and Breakfast

Genteel rooms & rural views in an 1897 building designed by U.S. president Herbert Hoover.
We were greeted by Wendy who gave us a walk through the display and some information and history that was very relevant when exploring the site. We only had one night at Hoover House, it was beautiful and Rosalie showed us the allocated space in the fridge and a few other points. It was a great location to explore Gwalia

This historic and wonderful old residence is a real pearl and worthwhile checking out. I stayed overnight in the lap of luxury in the master bedroom at the front of the residence. Go back in time but don't miss out on anything in terms of convenience and luxury. Great value for money and a look back in time. I loved my stay.

What a special experience 230 km north of Kalgoorie. We had booked the b&b to have a break from 5 months roof-top-tenting. We dropped in at 2pm to enjoy scones from the café on the verandah, then to explore the museum with a special private tour from Wendy. She is so knowledgable and enthusiastic about Gwalia history. In the evening we had the entire museum and the historic Hoover House on our own. We enjoyed the evening on the Veranda with a glas of wine (BYO) and the view accross“our mine“. House and garden are just lively. Everything you need for breakfast is prepared in the kitchen. Fully recommended. Worth every cent!

Beautiful old house lovingly restored. Appreciated all the little touches like the old hairbrush and mirror on the vanity all that was missing was a chamber pot! BBQ area was good and worked well for us. Very limited kitchen facilities though so plan your evening meal well. The bed was really comfy and warm, didn’t even need the heating in the room. Lovely gardens. Highly recommend. I’ll always stay at Hoover House when I’m in Leonora now.

We stayed the night, it was like living in a part of history. The rooms were fantastic, sitting on the verandah with a glass of wine at five o’clock was just wonderful. The advice and help we received from Wendy was wonderful. Our whole experiences was brilliant, the B&B, the old town, the area, and the staff.

Everything about this stay was superb. The facility is outstandingly comfortable and has so much history inside and out. The collection of motor vehicles and equipment and information is breathtaking The staff were always cheerful and helpful. Having the whole house to ourselves was unbelievable, so comfortable, quiet, and relaxing. We will most definitely be visiting and staying again. What a shame there is no tourist train to Leonora. Thanks for a fabulous few days.

Hoover House B&B offers a delightful escape with its old-world charm, surrounded by lush lawns, roses, and lavender. Guests are treated to a 5-star hotel experience, with impeccably clean rooms featuring crisp white sheets, excellent shower amenities, and the comfort of air-conditioning. The house itself is a unique blend of historical elegance and modern comfort, providing an atmospheric stay. The location, juxtaposed to a modern mining operation, adds a fascinating touch, offering stunning views of the sunset over the Outback. Visitors praise the peaceful atmosphere, well-maintained facilities, and the opportunity to explore the history of the area. Highly recommended for a tranquil retreat with a touch of history. Alex

If you want to experience one of a kind backyard that is a mine pit, this is the place to go. The accommodation is an old house and has been preserved, lots of interesting history in this place. It is a gated compound together with the Gwalia Museum. It is quiet and there are 3 rooms in the house. If you are the only one booked that day then you have the whole house to yourself which could be a good or bad thing. The owner/caretaker is very friendly and accommodating.

The Goongarrie National Park may not appeal to everyone, but it does offer a distinctive burial site of a man named Phillip Mack, who met his demise in close proximity. While the park itself lacks significant attractions, it does boast an abundance of intriguing tales related to gold mining. There are numerous activities and points of interest available for visitors to explore and enjoy within this vast area.
Not for everyone. Has an interesting grave of a fellow call Phillip Mack, who was murdered nearby.

Nice stop after finishing The Great Central Road and have a real, good coffee. Shop is very good stocked and ladies are very friendly.

Really nice little museum and gift shop, with an excellent fancy coffee counter. I had a chai tea latte and browsed the fine selection of Len Beadell books while our Troopy, which had broken down on the Gunbarrel Highway, was being repaired by a local mechanic. This visitors' center was a great place to kill some time while we waited!

What a fabulous place to visit. Great coffee and a delicious range of cakes. There are also wonderful gifts and souvenirs available. Prices are very good as well. The staff were very polite, friendly and always smiling each time we visited. I would highly recommend a visit.

2022 update: still the best coffee in Laverton, now with an improved retail area, more seating and a museum/ historic display that is well worth checking out. Best coffee in Laverton. If you have time to stop for a coffee in Laverton, stop here. The Desert Deli doesn’t really do coffee and the BP doesn’t have a proper coffee machine, so the visitor centre is the only business in Laverton that does coffee well.

Great little visitor centre in remote laverton. Great shop full of lovely trinkets, books, maps and sandalwood products. Plus the coffee was good too. Definitely worth a visit
