Bicheno Blowhole

Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Bicheno Blowhole is a natural wonder on the rocky coastline, where waves transform into powerful jets of water during high tide. This attraction is formed by the erosion of volcanic rock and constantly changes in size and shape due to the sea's forces. It's a popular tourist spot easily accessible from the town center. Bicheno also offers shops, galleries, and nearby national parks like Freycinet National Park and Douglas Apsley National Park.
It is lovely to come here and take a small walk. There is plenty of free parking available in front of the walkway. The rocks look a little bit like the ones in Bay of Fires with the red rocks. The blowhole is quite cool to see, it is not very big though. Nice for a small walk!
Fan — Google review
Great spot to see. I loved the sounds that came from the waves hitting the blowhole and you can get super close to it. Added bonus was that I got to see a sea lion too!
Belinda N — Google review
It is… a blowhole. Not very big, and not more special than any other blowholes. Though the red stained rocks are pretty beautiful. Would skip this if you are short of time - not worth any detour especially. If you do go, however, do be sure to stop by Lobster ShackT Tasmania for some lobsters. Those were delicious.
Matt H — Google review
Had lots of laughs here. The blow hole didn't disappoint. We even found a rock pool with baby "somethings" in it. Some looked like wrigglers (mosquito larvae) and some looked like fish... I will leave it to the experts to comment on that 😀
Jenny F — Google review
We went at sunset, and got fairly good lighting for a few different shots. The blowhole seemed to only get high when I wasn't ready with the camera. Parking is just a little asphalt section to the side, so maybe busy times it might be difficult to park (we had no trouble on a weekday afternoon)
Mitchell D — Google review
Even though the ocean was calm and the Bicheno Blowhole stayed quiet, the place was still full of magic. My 5-year-old spent hours exploring the rocks and nature — his kind of paradise!
Carolin S — Google review
The Bicheno Blowhole is one of Tasmania’s coastal highlights. Just a short walk from the car park, this spot offers a spectacular display as waves crash through the rocks and shoot high into the air — especially impressive at high tide. Surrounded by smooth granite boulders and ocean views, it’s perfect for photography or a peaceful stop along the east coast. Visit around sunset for a chance to spot fairy penguins nearby. Free, easy to access, and well worth the visit.
Roshan — Google review
What a fabulous pice of coastline. A small 3km walk takes you over the huge granite boulders and a small harbour in Bicheno. Fantastic views of the beaches and surrounding islands with seals and other wildlife.

Tours
Bicheno Penguin Tours offers a guaranteed way to see the cute fairy penguins up close. The beach at Bicheno is stunning and staying in this local area provides a more affordable and less touristy option compared to Coles Bay. Visitors have had an amazing experience with the penguin tour, getting as close as 6 feet away from the adorable creatures. Despite being fully booked, the tour was not overcrowded, allowing for good viewing of the penguins coming ashore.
Great night time experience with Bicheno Penguin Tours. Very knowledgeable great service and well organised tour. Could not have been simpler. Very accommodating to families. Bonus was that the penguins were on show seeing about 20-25 with a mix of those parading and nesting.
Troy S — Google review
Absolutely must do when touristing Tasmania! The whole experience was extremely worth it. We did the second session of the night, and in my opinion that was the best one, getting the best of seeing the penguins and getting to stay there the longest. The guides are extremely knowledgeable, Connor knew heaps of great little facts and you could tell how much he cared for the little penguins. Pair this experience with dinner beforehand at the Food'n'Brew next door for a great night!
Mitchell D — Google review
Friendly and informative tour guides. We were fortunate enough to see a few groups of penguin make their way up from the sea to shore.we also saw the first two chicks for the season. Knowing they’re able to breed in a safer environment due to this education for locals and visitors to this area was a highlight for me. Small enough groups to ensure good visuals of the penguins as well as other mammals living on the shoreline. Definitely worth the fee, knowing I’m contributing to the program. Highly recommended.
Robyn F — Google review
Excellent experience. We were lucky enough to see so many penguins in many different areas across the rookery. They were adorable and it was amazing to watch them in their natural habitat. The tour was also very informative and our tour guide, Conor, was extremely knowledgeable and really cared about the penguins. Would definitely recommend.
MIKAELA H — Google review
A unique experience for my husband and I and would definitely recommend. Our guide was so friendly and informative. Despite her advice on how we needed to behave around the penguins, eg no flash when taking photos, no movement when they near us, etc there was still visitors who ignored the advice and needed to be reminded, on more than one occasion. At one stage, I reminded someone, as politely as possible, to adhere to her instructions. Amazing experience, thank you for the opportunity to view these beautiful creatures.
Amanda M — Google review
When the sun slipped behind the horizon, the beach turned into a secret stage. Under a sky dusted with stars, tiny blue penguins emerged from the waves — shaking off the sea, calling softly to each other, and waddling home in little groups. The sound of the ocean and their gentle footsteps felt like a lullaby only the coast could sing.
Crystal H — Google review
Amazing experience, as the tour guides explained everything so perfectly, with amazing opportunities for photography and taking in the sights around you. So much amazing wildlife to see, with a guaranteed bundle of penguins to sight, and many more animals in a wild habitat. The jobs they do in order to protect the penguins are also spectacular, appreciating the careful restrictions they must abide by, whilst giving both the penguins, and the tourists a stunning experience.
OZ N — Google review
We had a brilliant evening learning about these gorgeous creatures. Our guide, Dean (I think) was knowledgeable and made the facts interesting. We were given time to watch the penguins come up the beach as well as to see those who had already reached their nests. Thank you for such a fun evening. Thanks also to the bus driver who had the bus toasty warm on our return.

East Coast Natureworld

Nature & Parks
East Coast Natureworld is a 150-acre wildlife sanctuary located in Bicheno, just 7km north of the township. The park features paths that wind through lagoon and forest areas, allowing visitors to observe Tasmanian mammals, reptiles, and birds in their natural habitat. Visitors can witness the feeding of Tasmanian Devils and get up close to wallabies, kangaroos, snakes, quolls, and other native Tasmanian fauna as well as non-native animals.
We loved every minute here (and spent close to 2 hours here without even realising!). Had the most amazing wombat encounter (if you’re on the fence, just do it - Dottie, one of the resident wombats, climbed into my lap like a cat!). The merch was well priced, the guides were lovely and we would do this again over the Unzoo.
Sairah R — Google review
As someone from the mainland who has been to bigger zoos and seen it all but just cant get enough, I have to say do NOT skip over this beautiful little sanctuary. You get up nice and close with the animals and really get to admire them. The guides are full of knowledge and really love what they do and so do we! Definitely worth spending the extra $ on a cuddle with any of the animals. They are super cute and you won't forget it and all that money is going back into their care. We especially need to look out for our animals in tassie and these guys do just that <3
Saffron H — Google review
Really enjoyed all the animals, especially feeding the Devils - I think one of my favourite animals. The keeper (bushy blonde hair and red beard) was superb - very knowledgeable and friendly. Loved his interaction with the Devils - that lived up to their names
Max U — Google review
What a ripper little zoo! We spent about two hours here feeding wallabies, white wallabies!, Emus (scary), and most importantly Tassie Devils! We were there at feeding time and because we were just about the only people in the park (winter/out of season) we got a private showing with lots of explanations by the lovely wildlife lady. We even got to pat a devil! The bird enclosure was also love with friendly native parrots. All in all a very good and value for money experience.
Oli W — Google review
We had the pleasure of doing the Devils in the Dark tour with Leon last night. Wow what an amazing experience. Leon was the perfect guide so full of information and delivered it perfectly. Being so close to those awesome devils is something I will never forget. If you get a chance do it !
Shani — Google review
Absolutely unreal visit, a much more intimate experience than you'd get at Australia zoo. All the staff clearly loved their jobs and their passion for the animals shows. Definitely a must visit if you are in the area.
Lukas L — Google review
had the most amazing time at the east coast natureworld, we booked in for the baby devil encounter and it was worth every cent. being able to cradle and pat them was an experience I will never forget. the host of our animal encounter (Josh) was very friendly and informative, and it was incredible to have such a unique one-on-one encounter with these lovely devils. definitely recommend coming here whether you're visiting or live local, it's such a great way to get a proper hands-on experience with these beautiful native animals and as I mentioned before, it's truly worth every cent. thankyou to east coast natureworld and especially Josh for such a fantastic and memorable day :)
Jordan S — Google review
I am not usually a huge fan of seeing animals in captivity, but I genuinely enjoyed the „Devils in the Dark“ experience! The animals are considered ambassadors for the conservation efforts of the species and treated as naturally as possible. We got to see seven little devils making a carcase disappear while a knowledgeable guide gave a bunch of interesting information. Absolutely recommend.

Great activity for young and old. We took our 9 month old and the crew made sure we were well looked after. They were all knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. There was plenty to see, we got especially lucky spotting whales, dolphins, cormorants, seals and even a few albatross. The crew and Noah kept us informed sharing their punny Local knowledge thrifty l throughout the trip.
Jacek M — Google review
We had a wonderful day with the premium Skylounge package. We saw whales (about 6 humpbacks), seals, dolphins and albatross and the spectacular rugged coastline. Even with a 1.5m swell the ride was fairly smooth, although on the open deck my wife's feet left the ground for an instant. We cruised from Coles Bay to Wineglass bay, on the open ocean side and stopped to look at wildlife and natural features along the way. Once in Wineglass bay we anchored while ate a cold platter and admired the view. The only slight disappointment was the food as I'm not an oyster eater (had cheese, meat, salad, raspberries and blue berries as well) but otherwise a tremendous experience. The friendly and helpful staff were wonderful. I'd come back again!
David E — Google review
We got lucky with weather and nature. The staff's enthusiasm and knowledge added to the positive experience. Yes , we saw Humpback whales 😁. Seals , dolphins , I think we ticked most of boxes for sea birds. And the school of the largest Blue fin tuna the crew or I had ever seen. Approx 130kg tunas , double the size they normally see.
Frank C — Google review
Highly recommended. What a beautiful day on the water with Captain Mark and our hostess Dorothy(she looked after us all whether serving drinks, handing out our meals and keeping a eye out for the passengers that were unwell). A very well organised cruise and the passion the team have spreading their knowledge of wineglass bay. Saw dolphins, seals, caves and eagles. We were on the sky lounge and this included morning tea, lunch and beverages plus oysters and access to the bridge. I would recommend a seasick tab before the cruise just so you can enjoy the cruise.
John B — Google review
Amazing day out on our Wineglass Bay Cruise, great service, excellent commentary and boat captaincy, guided by Robert Pennicott himself, wonderful service from the experienced crew. Delicious lunch and amazing East Coast scenery....highly recommend.
Susan C — Google review
Loved the captain and all of the crew. They were exceptionally friendly and very good at their jobs. The views were epic and the seals were beautiful.
Heather R — Google review
We had an amazing time on our recent wineglass bay cruises. The whole team are so friendly, they all know so much about the area and wildlife. We paid for the sky lounge pass which was great value for money with morning tea, lunch and a selection of beverages included. The food was absolutely delicious, and they had a great selection of alcoholic, soft and hot beverages available. Considering there is so much of Freycinet that is not so easily accessible if you're limited to short hikes, getting out on the boat to appreciate the parks beauty was an amazing experience. We saw humpback whales, dolphins, seals and a wide variety of birds! We would 100% recommend this trip. Thanks for a lovely day!
Kerrie R — Google review
Such a great day. Noah and Sophie and the crew were so nice. They looked after everyone so well. It was so lovely seeing the wildlife and getting close to the rocks. We anchored for lunch in the most beautiful bays. The weather was perfect! Thanks so much for an awesome day. Highly recommended.

A great ATV tour with friendly and professional guides, perfect for all ages and driving experience. Includes a variety of stops at hidden gems on Freycinet Peninsula such as South Friendly Beach and Blue Stone Bay. All equipment is in pristine condition and the tour is extremely safe. Highly recommend!
We had an absolute ball on our tour. Kyla our tour guide was super friendly, fun and very knowledgeable about the Freycinet National Park. Vehicles were easy to operate and getting to take turns with your partner made the experience very engaging for everyone. Trip included a small afternoon tea at the beach before returning on some exclusive tracks including the chance to hit some puddles 😂 As a fellow tour operator this experience was super organise and well run 👏🏻
Nathan A — Google review
We just finished our All Terrain Tour with tour guide ‘Kyla’. It was so exciting gett ing out amongst the national park, stopping for a little echidna, had morning tea and lunch. Even experienced hump back whales while having lunch which was exciting. We took the half day tour and it was so worth it. we had such a good time and recommend anyone who is thinking about this to just ‘don’t think’ DO IT. You won’t regret it, the tracks were so fun. Best way to see the beauty of the coastline and the national park. Thanks again Kyla for a great morning.
Kaz T — Google review
Absolutely recommend this as it must do while you’re in Coles Bay. In addition to having a fantastic adventure on a quad, you’re able to visit beaches that would otherwise be difficult to get to. I read other reviews, saying that the two hour trip was too short because the adventure was so much fun and took the advice. I agree If you have time, before our journey is brilliant. Our guide Rob was friendly and shared with us lots of information about the area while stopping for homemade brownies and delicious sandwiches. At different times in the trip we went through brooks and climbed hills to breathtaking views.
Karen A — Google review
We booked in Feb for our honeymoon for a little adventure. 100% recommend. Easy to book. We had Robert. It was an amazing adventure. Lovely staff and full of fun.
Samantha A — Google review
A fantastic way to visit Freycinet National Park! You will see some spectacular views, which normally take at least a 4-hour walk to reach. Riding the bike is super fun, plus seeing fantastic sights like Bluestone Bay is unforgettable. A big clap to our tour guide, Isaac, who is super friendly and helpful.
Flo “ — Google review
Thank you Rob and the team from All4 All Terrain Tours for a super fun day! We booked this tour when we saw a pamphlet in our hotel in Hobart and thought it would be a great last activity for our week long family Tassie trip. It did not disappoint! Rob the owner and our guide on the day lead us through the Freycinet National park fire trails (and through a few river crossings) and to some beautiful beaches and look outs. We enjoyed some hot coffee and tea on Friendlys Beach and then Lunch at the Lighthouse over looking the Tasman Sea. Rob was very knowledgeable about the national park, geography and the area in general. Was an exciting and fun filled way to see the beautiful Freycinet landscape! If you have the time don’t miss this tour!

Awsome day and awsome guide beautiful veiws .. great day had by all young crew and old . Recommend this to everyone .. cheers heaps guys...
John S — Google review
Our second time doing the half day adventure with ALL4 - we did the quad bike tour back in 2015 and were a little disappointed to see only ATV are available now due to regulation changes, but happy to say we had just as much fun!! My husband drove the ATV, I was a passenger which was actually great because I could enjoy the view and take photos. Mel was our guide and she was awesome! Super friendly, approachable and capable managing the ATV out on the trail after we needed to pump up our tyres mid way. Her instructions were clear, always giving a heads up if there was a tricky part ahead and how to manage it. Also took lots of great photos for us! The scenery and views are soooo beautiful, especially with all the butterflies on the trails. If you're thinking about booking a tour with these guys - DO IT! They are fantastic and I hope one day we can come back for a third time!

The guided kayaking tours are particularly popular and provide an opportunity to discover secluded coves and paddle beneath the pink granite mountains.
Quino our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable! He shared great tips to my wife and I who were first time open water kayakers. The tour was amazing with many breathtaking sights. Our group of 6 spotted a pair of Eagles nesting in a bay and stopped on a private beach for hot tea and cookies which were 👍 Anyone visiting Freycinet to hike wineglass bay should also put this kayak tour on their to do list!

The evening sea kayaking experience at Coles Bay was relaxing and fun. Our guide was Hannah and she took very good care of us. She also explained many geographical and even identify a White Belly Sea Eagle sitting solo high up on a tree (see photo). It was tiring at the end but a good exercise for all of us. Kudos to Hannah!

Went on the water taxi from Coles bay to Hazards bay. Easy transport, the boat driver was a lovely young chap who was very informative and happy to answer questions, very clear and thorough and was very helpful. Great and easy way to see hazards and wine glass bay. Glad I did it, as my partner and I cannot walk the wine glass bay track as we used to, due to injury. However at $75pp it is a little bit steep in pricing for a 20/25min boat ride. Glad we did it once but probably won’t be a repetitive boat ride we will take. We also wanted to do hire a kayak to use around Coles Bay but for $120 hire, it’s a bit much for just a kayak so we decided to give it a pass

Kaley & James led us on a fabulous paddle around the area. Excellent leadership, vast natural history knowledge & bonza cookie selection & tea, coffee or hot choc at our stop. No better way to spend the morning.

We had a fantastic time on the late afternoon kayaking tour of Coles Bay. It was touch and go with the conditions and potential rain but thrilled we went ahead and the water was surprisingly calm. The guides were informative and friendly, and it was one of the highlights of our East Cost trip.

Spring Vale Vineyard is a charming family-owned winery that has been in operation since 1875, situated on Tasmania's beautiful Freycinet Coast. The vineyard boasts a deep understanding of the local terroir, resulting in the production of premium, award-winning wines at their on-site winery. Visitors can enjoy a relaxed and intimate wine-tasting experience at the Cellar Door, housed in a historic stable built with convict labor in 1842.
We stopped at this cute tasting room while driving the East Coast and had the best time chatting with Neil. Loved all the wine particularly the sparkling, sauv blanc and rosé. We live in one of the wine regions of California and the wine is full of additives here. Not only does Spring Vale wine taste great but it also doesn't give you such a terrible headache the next day... Wish our wineries had similar winemaking practices.

We recently visited several vineyards along the Tasman Hwy between Swansea and Bicheno and enjoyed our experience at Spring Vale Wines. This is a historic vineyard with a quaint indoor wine tasting experience with a bit of history sharing for those with interest. Opening hours are 11am to 4pm daily. On the day, we were particularly interested in their Pinot Noir and tasted several all of which were quite good. We purchased bottle of the Spring Vale 2022 Estate Pinot Noir which was very much enjoyed with dinner that evening. It is a good serious Red with a smooth finish. All in all, had a very good experience and would intentionally return here if doing the rounds in this area of Tasmania again to purchase another bottle or two.
Brad — Google review
Stop at Spring Vale vineyard in the way to Bicheno. The wine tasting is decent with choices of White and Red wines. I am not really big fan of Pinot Noir which is only one type of Red they had. Anyway, their White wine is not bad.

Very friendly and informative. We especially enjoyed the Gewürztraminer. It was also a very pretty drive and lovely older building where we tasted the wine.

Absolutely blown away by the incredible lunch created by Chef Steven Kean's l'Apéro Bistro @ Spring Vale Vineyard. The bistro was beautifully styled from, glassware, seating, floral arrangement (amazing) which only highlighted the excellence of Steven's culinary expertise. The degustation was decadent and beautiful paired with incredible wine. Congrats guys

We did a short stop thinking they serve lunch but sadly they didn’t on a Wednesday. But they recommend another place, which was kind of them. Did a quick wine tasting (10$) and left. The Gewurz is excellent

Stopped by here for a quick wine tasting on the way to Bicheno. They’ve got both a restaurant and a cellar door for tastings. The wine was decent, but what really impressed me was the foods, I had a small cheese plate one, really tasty and well-matched with the wine. There’s also a lovely outdoor seating area out back where you can chill and enjoy the vineyard views.

Maria Island Gateway

Transportation
Ferries
Saw some very cute wombats on Maria island, didn’t have to deliberately search for them, there’s quite many! Very worth visiting, 4hrs is enough to visit painted cliff and the other side. Super strong wind (and therefore cold) near the cliff so make sure you have wind breaker. Better to wear shoes as you’ll be walking the whole time. No restaurant, food or water on Maria island so make sure you bring everything you need. Can have breakfast at Maria spirit cafe before boarding the ferry (1min drive away), they have nice breakfast and coffee. Absolutely recommended to visit! Ferry to Maria island is not available everyday so make sure to plan before visiting!
MHL — Google review
This is the ferry company that you use to visit Maria Island from the Triabunna Esplanade. Best to reserve tickets online in advance beforehand to ensure desired departure times. Seems there are 4 departures and returns daily, tickets are sold with specific journey times both ways. You need to check in at the Visitor Centre building next to the Jetty 30 minutes before departure time. In addition to the Encounter ferry ticket, you also have to pay a National Park entry fee, which is covered by the National Park Pass if you have already purchased. Just show at the Visitor Centre when they provide your ferry boarding tickets. The ferry is large and includes indoor and outdoor seating. Journey time is around half an hour both ways. They sell food and drinks onboard if needed. Prices are reasonable for the service provided. They offer a few more services such as bike rentals if you fancy cycling around Maria Island instead of walking. Again, best to reserve in advance to ensure availability on the day.

What an experience spending two nights on the Islan sorrounded by all the wildlife. Topped with a trail run up and down the Bishop & Clerk. The weather was Postcard like, just amazing. Loved it.

Maria island is one of Tassies true treasures with opportunity to get up close to wombats on the island. It also has beautiful walks around the island
P C — Google review
We stayed at the former penitentiary, There is no electricity in the rooms, but there is in the shared kitchen. It was a wonderful weekend, with short and long tracks around the island. You can either walk or bring your bike (or rent one there too). It's full of wildlife; you can easily spot wombats. Enjoy your time there!
Yasmin A — Google review
Absolutely amazing to see the wombats and the whole island.
Ralf W — Google review
Great ferry service - on time, clean, modern and efficient. The crew were really friendly and the embarkation and disembarkation was simple and quick. Great views on the way there and back and a really nice little cafe on board. I got back to Darlington earlier than expected and was able to change my booking very easily with a phone call.
Kim E — Google review
Absolutely a must come place! The view is very different from the rest of the Australia, especially at the Painted Rocks and and port. You can only walk or ride a bike there which both are quite fun to be honest, but obviously the bike can take you further into the island and see more things. You can also camp on the island overnight.

Ross Female Factory

Mentioned on

Museum
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
The Ross Female Factory is a solemn place with well-placed information plaques and displays that tell the story of the suffering that occurred there. The heritage building and field offer insight into the factory's layout and historic paraphernalia from that time period. While it's recommended for couples and history enthusiasts, it may not be suitable for children due to its historical nature and presence of snakes in the area.
Such an unfathomable hardship for the immigrants who were forced into labour here. An auster and beautiful building, an excellent stop on a walking tour around Ross' historic township. As with most interpretation in historic buildings, more on-site information would be great.
Binalong-ride S — Google review
Very informative history, free self tours Lots of Information on walls. Visit old burial grounds. 360° views of the area.
Kerrie-ann H — Google review
Very disappointing. Drove for 1.5 hrs. The building was very very cold and the outside information boards overgrown.
Ruth G — Google review
This is not like a lot of other historical penal sites in Tasmania, it's unmanned and minimalist. But that doesn't make it any less informative or mean it provides any less to the broader understanding of the convict experience. It is a single building, which introduces the site as it was used through time. From the earliest times in the transportation period through it's time as a female factory then a police department and private residence and finally it's current incarnation. People and experiences are introduced. The aspect of this site I appreciate the most is the open field, the choice to not try and rebuild the site. It just feels different. There is a lot of reading here. Not much for young people. This is more for those looking for more information on the female experience. It's heavy. Please, please don't come here if you have an issue with childloss. Entry is free but donations can be left at The Tasmanian Wool Centre.
BlueBelle's E — Google review
One of several Female Factories in Tasmania. An interesting and at time, emotional walk through the yards, it’s a reflection of how things were in the early 1800’s. Well preserved buildings with the remnants of other buildings still in the yard. Across the train tracks you can see the cemetery. It’s great to see history retained, if not only to learn from and ensure we do not conduct ourselves in this way again.
Brad C — Google review
Harsh history, interesting. Well worth visiting.

Interesting history. Great views from the site. Worth a stroll around the area and spend time reading up on what it is all about.
Marvin — Google review
What a fascinating place this was! We saw the sign for “Female Factory” and our curiosity enticed us inside. Surprised to learn that this was the site for female convicts. I found it really interesting reading all the notice boards positioned outside and inside detailing what life was like for the women that served time here. I loved how the original old wallpaper was partially left on the walls.

The Tasmanian Wool Centre is a beautiful and neat shop promoting Australian wool, offering a variety of woolen products from jumpers to socks. The center also features a wool museum that delves into the history of the town Ross. Visitors can explore historical displays and learn about different breeds of sheep and their impact on wool texture. Additionally, the center serves as an information hub for visitors.
Worth the visit to learn about the history of wool in Australaia and the different types. Michelle is so friendly and accommodating. She even explained some history around the place. Very interesting. The museum was very well presented as well as the shop and the products. Definitely worth the visit. Highly recommended!
Marvin — Google review
This was a great find in Ross. It tells the history of the very impressive wool industry in Tasmania as well as interesting facts about the town of Ross. I loved the bins of actual wool shorn from sheep to show you the differences in texture. Each type of wool had info about the sheep breeds used and their utility for both meat and wool production. They also have some gorgeous wool items for sale as well as a small supply of wool and knitting supplies. There was a tourist information section that had plenty of brochures. I loved my visit there and would return to see what new things they had! You can even sign up to knit a scarf for Jim, the door ram to keep him warm in winter!
Cristina S — Google review
We really love visiting the Tasmanian Wool Centre when passing through Ross, it's such an interesting place to visit with plenty of worthwhile clothing items and other things at extremely reasonable prices. Plus I absolutely loved the John Coburn Textile Artwork hanging up on exhibition. Also always nice meeting Tanya.😊
Bob W — Google review
A not-for-profit centre founded in 1988 that combines a woollen retail shop with a museum/exhibition of wool & regional/local history. It’s Tasmania’s largest retailer of woollens in the sense of variety and scale in that region, focusing on quality, sustainability, and showcasing Tasmanian/Australian wool. Some products are locally made, others are sourced overseas but with rules around materials. The museum part (Wool Exhibition + History Gallery) includes artefacts, photographs, exhibits about sheep breeds, wool processing, convict history, stories of the town of Ross, etc.. the only draw back is prices are high
Saima K — Google review
The staff here are very welcoming and also very helpful. The museum part of this place is very informational on the history of Ross

My friends and I had a wonderful day here! Initially there was a mix-up with our booking but Will went above and beyond to accomodate us and made sure we had a memorable experience. Food was delicious and great value. The cocktails were beautifully presented & Will’s service was 10/10. He even accompanied us on our self guided tour - very passionate and professional! Looking forward to visiting again.

We came for lunch and the food is just phenomenal. Service is also really fantastic and they had a great selection of drinks including cocktails. Unfortunately we were driving so couldn't take advantage of the main attraction - the whiskey. I'll be recommending this place to anyone and everyone visiting Tasmania.
Roisin M — Google review
A brilliant distillery experience. We opted for for lunch and a whisky tasting and even though we didn't have time for the tour I felt we still learned a lot about the whisky. Josh who looked after us was an exceptional host, his wealth of knowledge and infectious enthusiasm was a highlight of the whole experience. Even though it is described as a distillery that does food instead of a restaurant each course we had was delicious and paired well with the 8 seperate drams we got to sample.
Luke S — Google review
An unforgettable stop in Oatlands! The whisky here is world-class — smooth, complex, and beautifully crafted. The tasting experience is informative and personal, with passionate staff guiding you through each dram. The food is equally impressive. Locally sourced, expertly cooked, and perfectly paired with the whisky — especially the pork belly and chocolate tart! A perfect blend of history, flavour, and Tasmanian hospitality. Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Worth a stop by if passing through. Happened on this place accidentally in search for a toilet and it became my favorite piece of architecture I have seen in Tasmania. The whole vibe is wonderful. We did not do the tasting or tour but even without it is worth the stop. Lots of history and information and an overall nice place to be. (Go get the scones at the pancake and crepe shop next door while you are here. Thank me later)

Such a wonderful experience at Callington Mill! The whisky tasting was excellent with a great variety to try, each one smooth and full of character. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the location itself is beautiful with so much history. A must-visit for whisky lovers in Tasmania!

Spectacular lunch and drinks. The photos speak for themselves. All the staff were lovely and very attentive. The only feedback I'd give is around providing a baby change table in upstairs bathrooms so team members don't have to be taken off the floor to provide access downstairs.
Chelsea B — Google review
On the drive home to Hobart, we took a spontaneous detour into Oatlands and stopped at Callington Mill. what an incredible piece of history! Next, we wandered into the Callington Mill distillery, where we were greeted so warmly by Will. We each decided to try a tasting paddle, and what an experience it was! Every whisky was exceptional, making it nearly impossible to choose a favourite —but in the end, we left with a bottle of El Sol single malt, matured in ex-Sherry fortified wine casks from Jerez, Spain. Absolutely divine. The hospitality was just as remarkable as the whisky, making the entire visit unforgettable. Without a doubt, we’ll be back ~ to dine, to explore, and to soak up more of this beautiful place.

I wish I'd had more time to spend here. It was beautiful. I particularly liked the Sensory Garden. I was there between rain showers and it smelt beautiful. My son absolutely loved the Queen Victoria Museum! 🦖✨ There were so many interesting things to see, from dinosaurs to the interactive science displays, and he didn’t want to leave. The staff were friendly, and it’s a great place for kids to learn while having fun. Entry is free, making it a perfect family outing in Launceston. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Tasmania with kids!

We had an amazing experience at the Queen Victoria Museum in Inveresk! It’s incredible that such a high-quality museum is totally free to visit. There’s so much to see and do, from fascinating exhibits to hands-on activities that keep both kids and adults entertained for hours. It’s a great place for families to spend the day exploring and learning together. Everything is well presented, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Definitely a must-visit spot if you’re in Launceston!
Pradeep W — Google review
Wow, I absolutely loved this place. It’s so simply understated and that’s exactly what makes it special. While it doesn’t have a huge number of objects, the exhibitions that are there are genuinely interesting. It’s the kind of place you might only visit once or twice, but you’ll remember it. What really stood out to me was how they’ve kept the old warehouses and buildings in such a way that it feels like someone could just walk back in and start using them for their original purpose again. It’s incredible so authentic and thoughtful. The Food Bank gardens run by OzHarvest were unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I’m from Brisbane, and honestly, Brisbane could never compete. There’s this quiet brilliance about it all nothing overdone or trying too hard. It just is, and that’s what makes it wonderful. The staff were really friendly. I did struggle a bit to find where to get coffee and food, but that might’ve been on me. I was on holiday and happy to wander around at my own pace. The layout wasn’t but was confusing, I just didn’t put much effort into figuring it out. I was on holidays and peopled out at that point. I’d recommend everyone visit at least once. It might not have the same spark on repeat visits, but it’s absolutely a must-see.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk is a captivating and diverse cultural hub. Housed in a beautifully restored 19th‑century railway workshop, it offers engaging exhibits on Tasmanian history, natural science, and industrial heritage. Highlights include impressive dinosaur fossils, interactive displays at the Phenomena Factory, and immersive planetarium shows. The museum is well-organized, thoughtfully curated, and free entry makes it accessible for all. Friendly staff enhance the experience, making it a must-visit for families, history buffs, and curious minds.
X X — Google review
My party was looking for something inside to do on a day with questionable weather. This fit our interest in history and it's free. The museum shows different parts of Tasmania's history. More open plan than any museum I've been in before but it really works. It allow the people to flow through. There are outbuildings that are there for exploring too, including a public display space. Immediately outside the double doors is the childrens area. It's interactive science. It looked like a lot of fun to this adult. Included among the exhibits that I really liked were the taxidermy and the Tasmainian Tiger sections. That small section of the Tassie Tiger is so tragic and emotional. The final one I liked is travel in Tasmania over time shoes and walking canes, bikes, a side saddle. Basically the why and how's transportation is the way it is in Tasmania, it's unlike anything I've seen in a single place. The Planetarium did cost $9 per adult but it was definitely worth it. We chose to see We Are Stars, featuring the voice of the ever talented Andy Serkis. The presenter, a volunteer (as they all are), skillfully showed us through what was going to be in the sky when that night. I highly recommend taking the time to go to the Planetarium on a trip here. Parking is paid and on the grounds of UTAS Launceston. But it's free if you visit on a Sunday. The site is largely wheelchair accessible. There are certain outbuildings that will be harder to access, most importantly the rail workshop.

Highly recommended the tour. We really enjoyed the fascinating tour of the whole brewing process along with the rich history and pride taken in this amazing facility. Friendly waves from workers as we walked through made us feel welcome. Our tour guide , Jess , was being mentored by Bec and they were both excellent in delivering a positive enjoyable experience. Jess, while new to the tour guide role was completely competent, confident and embraced the task with a smile and good sense of humour and in the tasting session at the completion of the tour she shone with her knowledge and fine sense of taste explaining the intricacies of various Boags beers 🍺 Thank you Jess and Bec , both passionate Boags Ambassadors 😁

140 year old brewery with tap room, as well as tours. $45 per adult for the tour. Their main hospitality area is currently under renovation, but there is still a small bar and merchandise store open. Classic range of beers available as a tasting paddle (4 beers for $20). Take home packs or slabs available for purchase. Only food is chip packets, no hot food available. Staff were very welcoming and very knowledgable on the history of the brewery.

We had a great experience on the 3pm James Boag's Brewery Tour yesterday. Our guide, Ashley, was outstanding, she struck the perfect balance between making the tour educational and keeping it fun and engaging. Her knowledge, passion, and sense of humour made the whole experience memorable. Ashley is a real asset to Boag's. The included tasting afterwards was the perfect way to finish. All the beers we tried were great, and we especially loved being able to sample a few that aren’t available anywhere else. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Launceston whether you're a beer lover or just curious, it's well worth it! 🍻

We truly appreciated that the ladies at Tamar Valley Rose Shop created an absolutely stunning arrangement for my mother's funeral. They really listened to and accommodated all our requests relating to style of arrangement and flower types, and produced exactly what we wanted - Mum would have loved it, just as we did. Tours & dining at a 19th-century manor house on a sprawling farm renowned for its rose garden.
I thoroughly enjoyed a two-day stay at the charming Shepherds Cottage, nestled within the breathtakingly beautiful Woolmers Estate. This incredible destination is one I’ll undoubtedly return to in the future. The check-in and check-out process was seamless, allowing me to settle in and begin exploring right away. The highlight of my visit was the self-guided tour of the estate, included in the accommodation cost. The rich history, stunning period buildings, and meticulously maintained gardens were truly captivating, all set against a backdrop of picturesque countryside. The cottage itself was wonderfully cosy, with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The wood fire added a warm and inviting touch, keeping the entire space snug throughout my visit. It was a truly memorable experience, and I look forward to returning again.

The Woolmer Estate is a beautiful example of the elegant farm houses of the period. We didn't see inside the main house but the other old farm buildings, particularly the cider room and the shearing shed, were fascinating and the gardens are spectacular.

We stayed in the Gardener's cottage. It was an absolute delight. I loved the feeling of stepping back in time. The cafe was really nice tho doesn't serve alcoholic drinks. But the hot chocolate was delicious. Also the history is interesting. Knowledgeable tour guides. A walk through the rose garden is particularly nice.

I recently visited this restaurant and had an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with genuine warmth and professionalism. The staff were incredibly attentive, polite, and always ready to help without being intrusive. Their service was smooth, quick, and made me feel truly valued as a customer. The highlight of my visit was definitely the food quality, especially the scones. They were perfectly baked—light, fluffy, and fresh, with a beautiful golden crust. The texture and flavour were spot-on, easily some of the best scones I’ve ever had. You can really taste the quality ingredients and the care put into the preparation. Paired with their spreads, it was simply exceptional. The rest of the menu was equally impressive. Every dish was served beautifully, full of flavour, and clearly prepared with attention to detail. The ambiance of the restaurant was clean, welcoming, and comfortable, making the whole experience even better. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations in every way—amazing food, excellent scones, outstanding staff, and a warm atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for quality dining and top-tier service.

Did both tours. Ask for the combined package to save. Both interesting tours. Good coffee and food at the restaurant. Art gallery was good to see. A worthy place to visit. Not for profit. Volunteers run it. UNESCO listed. Accomodation looks great. Will stay on next trip

Perfect spot inbetween Cradle Mountain and Hobart! We stopped on the way and enjoyed a lunch at the restaurant which was really surprisingly good. The rose garden is beautiful and the little booklet you get with the self guided tour admission has a lot of interesting information about the place

Our second stay at Woolmers. Our first stay, some years ago, was only one night and we realised we needed so much more time there to explore all the fascinating history, marvel at the Archer family achievements, enjoy the grounds and swoon over the multitude of beautiful roses. This time we booked the Coachman's Cottage for a weekend stay and had a wonderful time. The cottage is very comfortable and quirky, quite the time capsule. We self-catered and didn't want for anything. As a guest you have longer day time hours to wander around the grounds and explore many of the ancillary buildings at your leisure and of course, smell the roses, all 3000 of them which were in magnificent bloom during our stay. We were also fortunate to enjoy a delightful art exhibition in the new visitor centre in the Rose Garden. Woolmers really is the jewel in the crown of heritage properties in Australia, a must see.

Shocking, pathetic, ridiculous food! The staff were very friendly and kind, however upon ordering a tasting platter, expecting something at least average if not excellent, given the lovely location & above average prices, we were genuinely shocked to be served a selection of the cheapest and nastiest supermarket salamis and cheeses, stale bread, all topped off with SALAMI STICKS (!) ... I could never in my dreams imagine to be served salami sticks at a restaurant - you see that stuff at a servo counter. Ham and cheese croissant was cheap supermarket stuff, again with some extremely budget, half-cheese-half-gelatine in it ... Just incredible. Something a 5 year old would put together if you told them to do a restaurant meal. Plain ridiculous. All finished with a bottle of juice that had mould under the lid. Could be just bad luck, but too much of it! The manager here needs to take a serious look at themselves. I don't care we paid a good restaurant price, but one would expect at least a half decent effort. Again - pathetic, ridiculous, to the point one isn't sure whether to laugh or be angry at the stupidity or audacity, whichever it is. Coffee was fine, and again, the staff also lovely - the more embarrassing the experience was, when nice people are made to serve this detestable rubbish to guests.

Cataract Gorge Reserve is a stunning public park located right on the edge of the city center. It offers a range of attractions including a chair lift, hiking trails, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Visitors can enjoy the free outdoor swimming pool at First Basin, take a ride on the world's longest single-span chairlift, and explore Victorian-era gardens where peacocks roam. The reserve also features walking tracks, lookouts, and dining options such as a cafe and restaurant.
A natural wonder in the heart of Launceston. Amazing gorges and small waterfalls. Beautifully laid tracks that's both easy and hard. Best seat in the house is in the air - from the Chairlift. The view is simply amazing from the rope way and other best thing is you get to see the Beautiful peacocks and wallaby's at the end of Chairlift. MUST VISIT PLACE!

A must see when visiting Launceston. Beautiful place to visit which you are free to explore the large park, and is of no cost. Follow the many paths, suspension bridge, and board walks along the gorge and enjoy the great views and well kept gardens, river and animals You can swim in the blue pool, or small lake on a good day of course. There is a cafe on site. The chair lift gives you a birds eye view and a fun trip across the valley for $20 return.
Brad S — Google review
This place was absolutely stunning. We took the old school lift to the other side. The view was so peaceful and stunning. You can imagine our excitement seeing a peacock near the other side, only to find there are a dozen more roaming around freely! They are super close but wont allow you to touch them. Wallabies also joined the mix. A few walking paths onsite. Well worth the visit.
Suha — Google review
Lots of good maps, even better rocks. This place is really good considering its ease of access and proximity to the city. The chairlift was fun, and the bumblebees are friendly. Staff were great and friendly too. #1 pretty rock river that I've seen.

The big highlight of Cataract Gorge, at least for tourists, is the peafowl. I had the pleasure of being there in Spring, mating season, so the boys were on full show. The peahens were treating their prospective mates with a bit of... contempt, it was kind of amusing to me (and just about every other woman I spoke to). This is a truly beautiful a space. It has multiple walking paths for different ability levels, a swimming pool, a suspension bridge and chairlift across the gorge itself. The cafe provides tasty food for a mix of tastes and some souvenirs. There is a bit of something for everyone. There is wheelchair accessibility through the inclinator. There is some accessible parking but I think it would fill up quickly especially in peak periods. Parking is paid.

Cataract Gorge Reserve in Launceston is absolutely stunning! The views are breathtaking, and there’s so much to explore — walking trails, the suspension bridge, and peaceful spots to just sit and enjoy nature. We spent hours taking in the scenery, and it’s the perfect place for a relaxing day out. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Launceston!
SOUMYA — Google review
Beautiful natural gorge, so close to the centre of Launceston. Busy parking space with paid parking ($2 per hour) A variety of walks/hikes available, from short stroll along the grass to 1km loop around the gorge basin, or a steep hike. There is a short chair lift that takes you to the other side of the gorge (adult prices are $15 one way or $20 return). Nice cafe with beautiful views. There is a pool, or can swim in the gorge.
Georgia D — Google review
Stunning!!!!! Beautiful day spent. Took the chair lift, did a walk and just enjoyed being in nature. Tip:We took the lift from the top to the bottom So we didn’t have to walk up after all the walking around. * pay for it when you enter the reserve.

We stayed in the Gardeners Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in this UNESCO heritage site. The self contained unit had all the amenities one would need, including lots of fire wood. 😅

We stayed at Brickendon Pumpkin Cottage on the last night of our Tasmanian holiday, before heading out on the Devonport Ferry. We found this stay to be the highlight of our trip. The cottage was so comfortable and charming, with everything you could need. We sat outside on the veranda all evening, with a cheese plate and some local wine, enjoying the extraordinary view and the spectacular sense of history of the site. My husband said it was the best place we have ever stayed, in 15 years of holidaying together. We had thought about staying in one of the convict built residence, but decided on the cottage instead and were so glad we did - private, secluded, peaceful, with a glorious sense of a rolling countryside unfolding in front of us. This was a not to be missed experience. Remarkable and highly recommended.

Wonderfully historic cottages to stay in. Ours had a beautiful little garden. It was very well furnished and some of the best breakfast provisioning ever. It was our own little private haven, much nicer atmosphere than Woolmers. The staff were immediately available when needed and very friendly. It was wonderful to be surrounded by this great tourist attraction.

The surrounds and farm were beautiful and historic. Cottage was quaint and cosy. Fire wood ready on verandah and fire set in fireplace which ignited as soon as lit. The breakfast supplies were a lovely touch. We had a memorable stay

We loved Brickendon Pumpkin Cottage! Accommodation was so comfortable and well set up. It was a pleasure to stay in a beautifully kept historical building. The provisions for breakfast were very much enjoyed and the fire set, all ready to light, with plenty of wood to keep it going was a delightful touch. The grounds provide plenty of beautiful, quiet, country vistas to enjoy and the history of the buildings on the grounds is fascinating. Being able to bring our dog made it all the more enjoyable. We will definitely return 😊

Beautiful little historic cottage, perfect place for relaxation. We felt like we had gone back in time. Perfect set up for us and our 2 well behaved English Bulldogs. Cosy, private, well prepared breakfast provisions and fully self contained for preparing dinner. Definitely will return to spend longer, one night definitely not long enough.

Historic. Calming and just wow. This little gem is well worth the visit. Ducks, chickens, turkeys, fowl of all varieties. Incredible information about the estates beginning and subsequent 7 generations in one family. There were easy access, very clean toilets. The grounds are mostly flat and simple to navigate for 9 years old to 90 year Olds. Give yourself an hour at least and think.about taking the walk over to Woolmers estate. Brilliant.

Absolutely fantastic distillery with a great restaurant attached to the cellar door all situated on stunning grounds. We stopped by for a late lunch at about 2pm and the staff at the bar were very welcoming and let us eat first and waited until done before seeing if we wanted a tour and to taste the whisky. We did. The whisky was great, do the whole tasting flight then go on a tour of the historic grounds that still operate the distillery.

Great tour and tasting, talked to the distillers! Under new ownership, they are expanding and fixing up the site. No lunch option and the moment only coffee and cake other than the whisky. Not much else around the area other than nant. But enjoyed my visit!

Location is beautiful. Staff friendly and helpful. Whisky is superb, cask strength port barrel is my personal favourite. Tours are worthwhile, as they show you through the mill, and then go through the whole whisky making process, which you you an appreciation for the prices of good whisky.

Definitely worth a visit for beginners or experts of whisky. Beautiful sandstone distillery with a working flour mill. Great tour of the building and they show you how the flour mill works during the tour too. Exceptional whisky for tasting and make sure you look out for the platypuses in the pond.

My first visit in 4 years and under new owners. It is such a beautiful and picture perfect Tasmanian distillery. Staff were very friendly and the whiskey is superb. Visitors need to support these ventures that are not on the main roads. Well worth a visit.

The tour and tasting here is a fantastic experience. The property is beautiful and the distillery is a historic masterpiece. Bonnie was our guide and she is a wealth of knowledge and obviously passionate about Tassie whiskeys. If you like good whiskey and want to go see how it's made, make a trip to the Nant!

Excellent tour, amazing staff and beautiful setting. Well worth the visit. Plans to have the kitchen fully running soon, but still doing tea, coffee, cake, cheese and ploughman's platters, so good for a morning tea or light lunch. Whisky tasting excellent of course!!!

Yes it is opened again! 7 days a week after it was bought by the new owners in Feb. Kim and Dean both took us through a tasting and we loved Kim's chocolate mudcake infused with port cask nant whisky. The tasting was delicious and we bought some port cask whisky. Staff were fantastic. Grounds are fantastic. Whisky is fantastic. Heading back to do a full tour tomorrow with more time.

Moores Hill Estate is a beautiful winery in Tasmania that offers delicious platters and wine tastings. This family-owned vineyard has impeccable service and provides visitors with the opportunity to sample some of the finest Tasmanian Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir. Apart from its tasty offerings, Moores Hill Estate boasts stunning sitting areas that are perfect for taking Instagram-worthy photos.
We came here as part of a wine tour. Besides several spectacular wines to taste, we also had lunch here. The tasting was excellent, full of explanations regarding the properties of the wine and why they chose to grow those particular grapes. I highly recommend.

Amazing place to have your breakfast/brunch. Wine tasting experience was amazing and the staff were very friendly. We were the first customer of the day (went in on the dot of their opening hours) and were greeted warmly. Would definitely come back again!
CY C — Google review
Moores Hill Estate offers a modest winery experience, earning a 3.0/5.0 rating. The vineyard has a pleasant setting, but the overall atmosphere and facilities feel quite basic compared to other wineries in the region. The wine selection is adequate, with some enjoyable options, though nothing particularly stands out or surprises. Service is friendly but fairly standard, without any extra touches to elevate the experience. It’s a functional spot for a casual tasting, but it lacks the charm, creativity, or standout quality that makes a winery truly memorable. Overall, Moores Hill Estate is acceptable for a low-key visit, but not a must-see destination.
Hidesato O — Google review
I've had two lovely tastings with the team and Moores Hill over the past few months, and both times were incredible! They tell wonderful stories about their process, and I love the sustainable elements. Of course, the wine is incredible as well! One of the best in the Tamar Valley.

Lovely stop at Westbury Maze. The maze needs a little bit of TLC, however it was harder to find the end than expected. After conquering the maze we had coffee, milk shakes and scones which hubby said they were some of the best scones he has eaten. The lady running the maze was absolutely lovely and went above and beyond to ensure the customers were satisfied.

Quaint little stop in Westbury. Cafe has toasted sandwiches, scones and some baked goods available for lunch. Service was super friendly! Pumpkin soup was absolutely delicious but leek soup was not to the same standard. Kids enjoyed yummy toasted sandwiches made to order and played in the little garden outside while waiting. Coffee was good. The maze was more difficult than anticipated and was fun if a little tired.

Having driven past this place for decades, the kids and I popped in just to take a look. What I didn't expect was a beautifully built cafe, warm friendly staff, and despite it's small land area, a maze that kids belted around in for an hour or so. Put it on your to-do list for the weekend. Your kids'll love it!

Visitors can take a self-guided walk to the waterfall, feed the salmon, and explore the wetlands. The farm offers an array of platters featuring delicious smoked salmon prepared in various ways, accompanied by fresh salads and seafood dips with ginseng seasoning.
We loved our lunch here. The food was delicious, the outdoor setting was relaxed, expansive and cute. Eating at the farm was special. We shared a salmon share platter which was ample for two and with a salmon salad did the 3 older members of our party. We then wandered the farm, feeding the fish was a highlight. (Extra cost) But worth it. And a walk around the lakes was very nice. We saw a wallably.

I'm a solo traveller without a license, so I walked from the Deloraine Empire Hotel to the cafe 22 km (2 ways). I love the scenery throughout the walk. The cafe is awesome! After a long walk, I get to saviour cured salmon with 3 different dips and cheese platter with long black coffee. I was very content when I was enjoying the moment. The cafe reared the salmon, and they also have a ginseng farm. There is a garden and trail walk next to the cafe. The cafe is open every day and closes at 4 pm. After my meal, I walked a bit around the garden. I also had strawberry sorbet and bought a bottle of ginseng honey. That was the highlight of my stay in Deloraine.

Melita Honey Farm is a delightful surprise for those who appreciate honey and its products. The farm offers a wide range of honey flavors available for tasting, along with other edible products, skincare items, and even bee-themed merchandise. Visitors can also observe bees at work in a glass-fronted hive inside the shop. The farm's honey ice cream is particularly delicious and not to be missed. It's an informative place where visitors can learn about bees and hives while enjoying the various honey-based offerings.
We spent a terrific half hour here one afternoon, and probably could have been longer, except we were rushing to do too much. The staff are super friendly and the shop is full of amazing little surprises. There is a great section with ALL the information about bees and bee keeping and honey. And the two best bits, are the extensive honey tasting and the selection of fabulous honey flavoured icecreams. If you are in the area you really shouldn't miss it. Extra bonus: the glass sided bee hive where you can see the inner workings of the bees world.

Such a great experience trying all of the varieties of flower blossom honey flavours along with nut, chocolate, fruit, spice/chili, pollen/royal jelly augmented varieties and taking home bottles of my favourite flavours. Plenty of high quality local bee/honey themed products along with delicious non alcoholic meads, skincare/beauty products, bees wax candles and of course the decadent honey ice-creams!

We were in Tas from interstate and of course had to visit a honey farm. There were about 35 or so varieties of honey to sample. The gift shop is also quite large with sooooo many attractive and unique items to purchase. I bought myself a vase and salt and pepper shakers. The ice cream i tried was also very tasty. Of course items in the shop vary in price, but no one is forcing you to buy. Toilets onsite which is very handy.

Melita Honey Farm is a delightful spot to explore and buy various types of honey. The staff are exceptionally friendly, making the visit even more enjoyable. I particularly liked the lemon lime honey, which had a unique and refreshing taste. Visitors have the opportunity to try different honey varieties before making a purchase, which is a nice touch. There is convenient street parking available, along with a few parking lots beside the shop. I also bought some Manuka honey for myself. Overall, Melita Honey Farm is a charming place with a great selection of honey and excellent customer service.

Malita Honey Farm is the perfect example of how one beautiful theme can be brought to life in every detail. From the moment you step in, you can feel the love and creativity poured into the place. It’s not just a shop — it’s an experience! 🍯 They’ve got everything from delicious honey tastings infused with unique flavours to skincare, home décor, and an incredible info deck that teaches you so much about bees and honey. Every corner feels thoughtfully curated and full of charm. Truly a place where passion meets creativity — a sweet stop that shouldn’t be missed in Tasmania! 💛🐝

I suspect this honey is no longer pure. I recently bought a new bottle of Leatherwood honey and compared it with the one I purchased back in 2020. The older bottle clearly stated “100% pure honey” on the label, but this new one doesn’t. Visually, the texture has changed — it’s become slightly solid and lighter in color, which makes me wonder if the formula or quality has changed. I’ve attached a photos. The bottle on the left was purchased around 2020, and the one on the right in 2025.

Absolutely need to pop in and check this wonderful shop and area out. We enjoyed going out of our way to enjoy the honey and many different products Melita Honey had to offer. 5 Stars! So much honey it's not funny :) We were gobsmacked by the amount of flavours here. My favourites are the Leatherwood and Lavender honey. Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Mole Creek, Tasmania, is a renowned wildlife conservation center that offers daily tours to visitors. Since 1985, it has been a popular destination for observing native Tasmanian species such as the iconic Tasmanian Devils. The sanctuary provides an opportunity to get up close and personal with kangaroos and ducks while enjoying the natural environment.
Had already been to 2 other sanctuary in our 12 day trip to Tasmania, so wasn't sure if I wanted to do another wildlife park. Well how wrong was I, this was the best place, able to see all animals in beautifully set up homes. Had multiple devils in the same large enclosure so watching the interactions is priceless. The water birds and kangaroos top off a great place, friendly staff, a good variety of souvenirs. Best place.....

Love being able to get up close with our Tasmanian animals. Also love that this sanctuary cares for animals that can't got back out into the wild, or help them rehabilitate. I feel the sanctuary needs a bit of money spent on some areas that are getting a little tired. Its a wonderful spot and I hope they can get a grant to help.

I had an incredible experience at Trowunna. I’m really appreciative of all the amazing work they do here. You can tell they really look after the animals and it makes me so happy that they are able to release healed wildlife back into the wild, and have breeding programs in place to boost numbers of these special species.

My partner and I had a wonderful experience at the sanctuary. Seeing the range of rescue animals and how well they were taken care of was great. We took advantage of one of the free guided tours and got up close to a wombat and Tassie devil. It was also great to have a wander to each of the enclosures and hand feed the kangaroos and birds in between. It was a great trip and recommend people to check it out.

Amazing sculptured panels done by a true artist. It’s a twisty curvy up & down road to get there and we even encountered snow. Be aware of that. No photography allowed inside if the panels.

Oh my. Highly recommend anyone visiting Tasmania to make every effort to stop at The Wall near Derwent Bridge. The art work is superb with exquisite details. Don’t rush your visit! We took a leisurely stroll around the entire display soaking up every image intricately carved from Huon Pine. Sadly no photos allowed but that’s a crucial strategy of the artist to protect his work and the messages he conveys. The pic provided is from a pamphlet provided at The Wall.

Fantastic love of wood and carving gives us The Wall, that takes you on a sensory adventure of life. Spectacular in its presentation the aroma of naturally carved Huon Pine permiates all round the facility really adding to the experience. Light refreshments available to share by a beautiful fire, all without any of the hype and commercialism that takes over today exhibits. You WILL be moved by the emotions you feel as you follow the story, imagining what life can be like. An excellent exhibit you should definitely stop to view, not drive past at 100kph... Take a BIG long Bow Greg Duncan, your skill and passion know no bounds... As at Sep2025 Adult Entry $22ea In summer I highly recommend booking to avoid the inevitable que...winter and spring walk in...

We had been told to come and how good it was, but was more than we expected. The work put into these incredible carvings must have been long and laborious, and has created an awesome and different art installation. Although we understand the ‘no camera’ rules, it was a shame not to be able to share with friends and family, maybe even a bit more on the website would be enough to whet the appetite. Thank you for sharing your talents.

Oh wow, you need to visit this place. The wood work is so real life. No photos allowed inside. He tells a story of some of the history of the people from the area.

Truly outstanding 100 metre long carved frieze out of Huon Pine with exquisitely carved images of yesteryear that looked so realistic. Well worth visiting on any trip to Tasmanian wilderness taking care on the roads getting there. Bought a nice pear cider drink to sip in front of a leather lounge to conclude visit. Wonderful. Bought an off-cut of Huon Pine to try my hand at.

Master sculptor, well you can see why! This display brings carvings of everyday items to life, and the wall itself tells its own story. It even shows you the process. Fantastic display of talent, patience and workmanship. Not much for children to do. No food, no photography.
