Absolutely well worth the visit. Very well laid out. The history of out back aviation for the flying doctor hands of perseverance it took to get everything going. The pedal power units to pedal power the radios from anywhere. And school of the air exhibits.
Itinerant — Google review
Awesome museum dedicated to some amazing and very important pioneers of the outback. Rev John Flynn, who has the idea of starting a flying doctor in the outback and to Alfred Traeger, inventor of pedal radio units and many others.

Very informative & interesting lots of historical items & displays
Colin S — Google review
John Flynn Place Museum in Cloncurry is a fascinating tribute to Australia’s outback heritage. The exhibits beautifully capture the story of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the vision of John Flynn. The displays are well-maintained, informative, and full of authentic artefacts that bring early outback life to light. The staff are friendly and clearly passionate about sharing the history. It’s a must-visit if you’re travelling through northwest Queensland — both educational and inspiring, with a genuine local charm.
Vian Y — Google review
Lots to read and learn. Loved to know that Cloncurry was the first place for the royal flying doctor service. Such a great service for the outback and still going strong.

Interesting history but boring display Can understand who is the man on $20 note and a great medical system for inland and also the some radio history Ticket$13

So much to see here, great stop for an hour. Lots of interesting machinery in great condition has been restored and put on display around the park. I really liked the water tank artwork, very well done. There is a cafe, information centre and good toilets along with plenty of parking.
Paul S — Google review
Great spot beside the information centre. Good parking for motorhomes and caravans. Playground for the kids. Free to look around outside and 61 steps up to a lookout.
Lynne B — Google review
Great info centre and park. Lots of information, friendly staff, great history display. There are dogs near the park that bark at you non stop which could be controlled but the area is beautiful. Restrooms are clean. Displays are well kept. Lawn is well kept. A must do in Curry

Well worth a stop. 2pm see the endangered Dunnard being fed plus info about this small marsupial. (only $5) Plus free to see all the info/ history of the area via short videos in listening rooms. Very interesting. Well done Julia Creek
Paul P — Google review
I love Info Centres. Julia Creek's centre is one of the best. Friendly staff and local info, yet the best was seeing the Dunnart display, small marsupials seldom seen. The centre has a breeding program. Wonderful place.
Terry V — Google review
Such a fabulous little centre with interactive elements. The feeding of the dunnarts is a must do experience. The interactive nature of the presentation, facilities etc makes the entire visit so fun
Melanie S — Google review
Great place to visit, staff very helpful and friendly. Lots of local knowledge between them. They even remember Gilliat - got stranded there in the 1979 floods, nothing left there now, except a few stumps of what they think was where the old Post Office building was. The feeding of the Dunnart at the information centre is very interesting. Well worth paying to see, and all the interactive screens are informative too. Gus and Kerrie Brisbane.

Fantastic place to visit, so Interesting to see the foot prints. Had a great time road out to the site is a bit rought . We drove out but you can do a tour.
Paul G — Google review
It's a good hour and half drive from Winton, but I really enjoyed our visit. We did the tour$35 as at June 25, about 45 min long, videos and a dedicated guide. Worth the visit, but allow nearly a whole day, by the time you drive there and back.
Nikki H — Google review
Definitely worth a visit for those wanting to do the dinosaur track. Just be aware it is a good 1hr 20 min each way and around 45 min tour. There are walks to do so if wanting to visit I suggest an earlier time so plenty of time to walk around.
Robert D — Google review
Enjoyed the 110km drive early morning from winton . Observed native wild life on route. Didn't book as it was off season. Did the spinifex walk while awaiting tour
Tania B — Google review
It's a 100km drive out, 40km of gravel, but all good. Worth the drive. Awesome scenery on the way out. Tip. Turn right a couple of times heading out. The escarpment a few km north of the road is worthy.
Peter S — Google review
Definitely giving 10 out of 10 the best stampede that you'll ever get to see. The tour guide was very interesting and helpful. Getting there is a different story there's only about 25 to 30km worth of dirt/grave road leading up there 5km of that is rough but if my corolla with highways can do it anything can. It's worth doing it.
Eloise-Mae V — Google review
This must be One of the most awe inspiring tours that I have done, well worth every cent. Make sure you do some with a bush walks around behind the main building as well.

Arno's Wall

Mentioned on
13 lists
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Arno's Wall, located in Winton, is a unique and quirky attraction that showcases the creative imagination of Arno Grotjahn. This modern wonder of art and architecture stretches for at least 70 meters and reaches a height of two meters. Constructed from concrete and rock, the wall is adorned with an eclectic assortment of household items such as vintage car parts, typewriters, kitchen sinks, motorbikes, and more.
An attractive little park that offers some shade from the fierce sun with a wall studded with many and varied items. It’s fun to see just what is in and on the wall, from wheels to engines, the odd sewing machine and many other items. It’s good that people like Arno are celebrated. No toilets, bins or water but it does lead onto the North Gregory Pub.
Paul S — Google review
They profess that every motor was displayed in the wall. We looked for a rotary engine and couldn’t find it. Hopefully they open the back of the wall up one day, so we can see more of it. We enjoyed the experience and recommend paying a visit.
Suzanne C — Google review
An eclectic gathering of all the things you probably shouldn't use to build a wall, artistically used to build a wall, good on ya! Cracker of a job, only reason it isn't 5 stars is it is a wall(I saw a shed through the wall, could be wall and shed, that would be 5 stars)
Luke E — Google review
Quirky, eccentric and free Art installation. Well worth visiting. The adjoining park is green, shaded and peaceful.
Karen N — Google review
Bit past it's prime. Adjacent park needs attention
Michael W — Google review
“This wall contains every engine from the start of mankind up to now.”- Arno Grotjahn. WHO is Arno? Arno was born in 1930 and spent his youth as a merchant seaman travelling the world. He immigrated to Australia with his wife Rita from Bremen, Germany, in the 1960s. Located behind the iconic @northgregoryhotel Arno’s Wall is a wonder of modern art and architecture. Displaying the collection of junk he culled from the town dump over the years, the wall is filled with lawnmower parts, boat propellers, vintage typewriters, plaster figures, copper pots, sewing machines, and a complete early model Holden 🤯 What was his inspiration? His inspiration for the wall came from a nine month stay in Rome working part time at the Vatican. Be sure to check this spot out when you’re in Winton! 🤙🏼🖤 @m5_adventures
Brooke T — Google review
Nice little art deco wall
Dennis P — Google review
It's a wall with all sorts of "stuff" stuck into it. Apparently the brain child of a local. Though I was not overly impressed with the wall, I have to say the park it is constructed in is beautiful. Had it not been raining at the time I would have liked to have spent more time there.

When visiting Winton, make sure to stop by the iconic Corfield And Fitzmaurice Building located on the main street. This historic establishment dates back to the late 1870s when Corfield first set up a general store in the area. The original store was later replaced in 1916, and today, the building stands as a well-preserved representation of old-style general stores in Australia.

The Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton, Australia, is a modern facility that pays homage to the beloved Australian ballad "Waltzing Matilda" by A.B. Paterson. The center features interactive exhibits, a cafe, and a theater for visitors to immerse themselves in the story of the swagman as told in the iconic song. With a cost of $3.
Interesting, educational and goes well beyond the song and Banjo. The rock photography exhibit was brilliant. The architecture was interesting, especially the downpipes.
MxR I — Google review
Lovely museum about how the Matilda came about. Lots of videos and displays to watch and read and listen too, a few things learnt I never knew - Also has a big museum complex about life in Winton and the region and how people lived over the last century, some of that interesting, some not so - Cafe closed Monday’s - Souvenir shop had a few trinkets
David H — Google review
I absolutely loved this place, now with the story and history of this great song in my head, I'll forever be moved every time I hear it played. The history & display of the outback life at the centre is excellent as well. Highly recommend, take your time to embrace the whole experience.
Andrew D — Google review
Very interesting story about the song. Lots of memorabilia to see Expensive to get in $35 adult $30 concession
Mike W — Google review
Positively brilliant. A beautiful tribute to Australian history. A “must do” for everyone. Give yourself a couple of hours. There is a good cafe right there as well.
Helen S — Google review
Really great. Indoor and outdoor exhibits and a big range of topics covered. We spent almost 4 hours there, so good value. Good affordable Cafe as well.
Tanya B — Google review
Great centre, lots of information about Winton and surrounds. Really disappointing that the coffee shop only stocks long life milk - and didn’t tell us this when we ordered. It doesn’t matter how good the coffee is - long life milk has a strong taste that spoils the coffee. We would have been back 2 or 3 times over the next few days otherwise. Cakes were great.
G S — Google review
Beautiful information centre, staff members Grace and Zoe were absolutely fantastic and couldn't do enough to help with information and local knowledge. Lovely cafe at the centre, exceptionally well priced for a tourist destination, food and service was great.

Australian Age of Dinosaurs

Museums
The Australian Age of Dinosaurs, located in Winton, Queensland, is a not-for-profit organization that operates the Museum of Natural History. The museum hosts annual dinosaur digs and runs Australia's most productive fossil preparation laboratory. Situated on the edge of a "Jump Up," the museum offers stunning scenery and architecturally brilliant buildings that blend seamlessly with the landscape. Visitors can explore recreated scenes featuring small dinosaur stampedes and gain a deeper understanding of Australian dinosaurs through interactive and engaging experiences.
This was fantastic. We did the 3 tours. First, the Stampede place, then the Canyon tour and Laboratory tour. We had a guide telling us all about the stampede in a river bed, and then we were allowed to walk around the mini canyon with real-life statues, which were fantastic and then a guide to tell how they collect, preserve and clean the fossils. Well worth the visit.
Cherie C — Google review
What an awesome experience. Checked out the laboratory and watched the volunteers cleaning the fossils. Great informative guide. Visited the river stampede and listened to the fabulous interpritations from the guide and imagined the Dinasours walking along. Then walked the valley with the life like models. A perfect day and great facilities for the dog to stay
Ian T — Google review
We absolutely love the Australian Age of Dinosaurs. Highlight was watching and then chatting with the volunteers exposing the fossils. So cool. Actually, everything about this was cool. Make sure you book - the tours are very busy and you cannot visit without a booking.
Kaz B — Google review
We took our three kids out to do the Dinosaur Trail, including the Australian Age of Dinosaurs. We had our reservations about the whole trip being worth the 2500km round trip for us from Cairns via Cobbold and Townsville. So far this place makes the whole drive worth it alone. What's even more incredible is that they haven't even built the Australian Museum of Natural history yet. This place was amazing at the time of our visit alone. It's going to be absolutely mind blowing as soon as the museum is built. I believe the addition of the museum will make Winton a must visit town for anyone visiting Australia. We'll just have to come back as they're clearly hard at work making this place even more spectacular right down to ancient vegetation. The attention to detail and architecture is impressive as it compliments the natural beauty of the Jump-up. It's hard to pick a favourite part of this attraction. The aim of our trip was for a scout project. The Laboratory was extremely informative and ticked all the boxes necessary. Everyone there is a volunteer and super friendly. They answered all our questions and it wildly exceeded our expectations. A great place to volunteer for a retirement! The art work is amazing also and makes for great photo opportunities. We walked out with a massive collection of dinosaur stuff. The only draw back is that I didn't know about the star gazing tour. If I'd known I would have booked a head. It was sadly booked out on the day. So that was disappointing. Apart from this amazing!
Heather E — Google review
Top place to go too, it's a must , so much info about Dinosaurs No dogs but dog cages supplied on other side of car park Great display with very knowledgeable staff, did the Ultimate tour Amazing centre in their outback station Nice Cafe in reception with great views. Little buggy bus takes you up through hill to outback station Best tour you can do. You can split the tour up, we did one part in the avo, next part morning so it wasn't too long for dogs to wait. Ring up to make the split arrangements, very friendly staff. Well recommended!!
Manuela K — Google review
The third stop on our family adventure of The Dinosaur Trail, after the Flinders Discovery Centre and the Lark Quarry Dinosaur Stampede. We loved our time at the Age of Dinosaurs (2 ad + 2 tweens). The guides were all friendly and knowledgeable. Facilities were clean, and the selection of gifts and memorabilia was good. The Dinosaur Canyon tour was done very well, telling a nice story of the history as we walked. We booked our trip 6 months in advance, and ended up with tour times that didn't actually exist, in an order that wasn't recommended due to the temperature increasing throughout the day. This meant there was a little confusion when we arrived, but the staff were helpful and sorted it out quickly. Better signage in the carpark would be great to make sure people don't go to the wrong place first, but other than that, it was an absolutely fantastic day and experience.
Danielle Z — Google review
Great spot, dig site, dinosaur bones, seeds, fauna, rock formations, all fabulous. So glad we visited, and spent some time there. The lady in the Laboratory doing the fine detail on items found, was amazing. Sorry I can't remember her name, she's a very talented lady ,degrees etc.! Loved her knowledge, and enthusiasm, discussed queries and had a very informative conversation about life in the area, dinosaurs, opals etc. Would love to have discussed around a fire pit over a glass of wine. The only negative I have is the number of people going thru the Laboratory at one time, which means you try and listen to the guide, and try and see what she's talking about. Very interesting information.
Sue H — Google review
The facility is amazing and we booked the full tour. We all really enjoyed the dinosaur footprints, such an incredible experience! The only downside was the long waits between the three parts of the tour, which made it drag out a bit. We ended up leaving early as we had to get on the road to the next town. Overall, an awesome place, but the tour could definitely run a bit smoother.

Fabulous that this is being preserved. Well worth a visit. Muttaburra is such a nice little town. Hard to believe it used to have seven pubs, and six of them legal 🙂 !! Hope I'm remembering the right town for that.

We were lucky to be shown over this time warp Outback Hospital. It is just like the staff have just left last week. Very Neville Shute Town like Alice experience. Very special and many thanks to Volunteer. If it's closed I would wander down to the Cafe next to the pub and they probably will be able to help you out. A great outback town to visit.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Starlights Lookout, also known as Captain Starlight Lookout, is a must-visit attraction in Longreach. Located about 55km outside of town, this rock formation offers stunning views of the surrounding area. A 20-minute hike from the bottom leads to unrivaled panoramic views of the town from the top. It's a popular spot for watching breathtaking sunsets over Outback Queensland.
A long drive on unsealed roads but worth it! If you're going for sunset the drive back can be challenging as there’s all kinds of wildlife ready to jump out into the road. Take some Snacks and drinks!
Richard L — Google review
Spectacular 360° views of the surrounding landscape located in the middle of nowhere about 50klms outside of Longreach via unsealed roads. Short moderately easy walk to the top of the rocky formation
Robert B — Google review
The drive out from Longreach is about 50km on an unsealed dirt road. The road was in really good condition. Then a short walk along a narrow dirt track to the top. With a Little Rock climb to reach the highest point. The sunset 🌅 was amazing. Beautiful panoramic views. Definitely worth the drive out. Would love ❤️ to go out there again sometime.
ALLy B — Google review
Although a last minute decision it ended up being a good detour in my day. Sept 2024, very dry. The road was dirt but pretty good, any vehicle could drive it. I’m in a Ford Transit and kept to a steady 80km/hr most of the way. So it only took 35 mins to do the 48 km. Once there, and I had it all to myself, there’s a clear and obvious rough track up this small hill, hardly a hill at 30m high. It was less than 2 minutes to the top, I really expected it to be more. Great views of the vastness of the lowlands of west Queensland, amazing stuff, remote barren scrub. I think a toilet should be provided as the area is signposted to attract tourists.
Paul S — Google review
50 km from Longreach on 45 km of unsealed road. I’m 60 and used a hiking stick to get to the top, which is a 30 metre climb. Interesting hill surrounded by plains.
David G — Google review
The view from the top is nice but there is no indication of walking trails. Getting to see wild animals ( goat, wild pig, cattle, emu) is Made it worth driving through the dirt road.
Matthana M — Google review
A nice easy drive from Longreach, it is a dirt road so beware of wash outs! But well worth the lookout after a 30 meter walk to the top.
Colby S — Google review
Amazing place where you can really get in touch with nature. I was there in the evening, so going back to Longreach it was getting dark and the kangaroos were really active. Really good experience.

The Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach, Australia, offers a captivating journey through the history of Qantas Airways, the country's national airline since 1920. Visitors can explore artifacts, aircraft, and interpretive displays that showcase the airline's evolution and engineering achievements. The museum also features multimedia exhibits and interactive activities that bring to life the stories of colorful characters associated with Qantas.
We bought ‘Business Class’ tickets for $99 each (11/8/25) which included the sound a light show the night prior to our tour. The sound and light show is fabulous and definitely worth doing. Our tour was booked for 1pm and it was good but it felt rushed. The tour started a few minutes after 1pm and we did not finish until 2.45pm. This meant that we did not get to see what we wanted to in the museum, hanger, or watch the short 8minute movie as everything closed at 3pm. We wish we had have come earlier but we didn’t know that it was an option to see the museum before the tour. They do offer pass outs for the next day but that’s no so helpful if you are leaving town. My tip is to either book an earlier tour or arrive at 12pm to experience the museum first. It’s certainly worth visiting!

Brilliant aircraft museum paying homage to the four giants of Australian aviation who founded QANTAS (almost destroyed by a small Irishman in recent times). This place is a must visit for any plane buffs or those simply interested in Australian modern history. The indoor museum contains a wealth of knowledge in the form of well curated physical pieces and information displays. The outdoor covered area is the piece de resistance displaying perfectly preserved aircraft spanning 60 years. This place should be on the bucket list of anyone who calls themselves Australian. Simply magnificent.

We did the Premium Economy tour for our family of 6. It was quite expensive, however the lady at the desk gave us a nice discount when we asked. The museum itself is well set out with unique displays and interactive flying simulators for young and old. We enjoyed the tour through the old hanger and found the stories to be quite entertaining and informative. Our tour guide did a great job sharing his knowledge with such a big group and fighting against the wind! We enjoyed walking through the various aircrafts and seeing the progression over time. Again our guide was very informative and knowledgeable with each plane. Our final highlight was walking through the 747, bringing back nostalgic memories for us adults. The kids were in awe of the size of it. We were a little surprised at how much it had aged on the inside.

The Captain’s Tour was absolutely fabulous—an amazing experience from start to finish! Our guide, John, was outstanding: so knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely kind. His passion and expertise made the entire 4-hour tour fly by without a single dull moment. The highlight was walking on the wing of a jumbo jet—an unforgettable experience! Thanks to John’s guidance and enthusiasm, this was a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable tour.
Susanne K — Google review
This experience was amazing. We got the first class tickets which included the airpark tour, wing walk and entrance to the museum for the whole day. The airpark was amazing, our guide Ryan was so passionate and funny which made the tour even better. Learning about each plane and the history behind it was one of the highlights of the whole trip. The wing walk tour was so cool. Going out on the wing and seeing the park from above is an eye opening experience. The light show was not included in this ticket so we bought the ticket on the day. The show was incredible and engaging. I would recommend booking, but we were lucky because not many people were watching that night so we just rocked up and were able to watch it. The museum was so interesting as well, there are interactive activities that were so fun and there was so much to learn about. The gift shop was also reasonably priced. Overall such a great experience that I will never forget.
Stella B — Google review
Well worth a visit. We had the business class experience. Our guide Max was great and a mine of useful, interesting information. Likewise John taking us through the evening light show. WOW. Qantas should be funding this whole operation because the benefits to the airline roll out. Highly recommended.
Graham S — Google review
Surprisingly fun. I enjoyed it more than I expected, and our tour guide John was great. A lot of interactive displays so you can try flying in a semi-simulator.

The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame & Outback Heritage Centre, which opened in 1988 and was inaugurated by the Queen, is a state-of-the-art museum celebrating the pioneers of European settlement in Australia's vast interior. The museum features five galleries showcasing outback heritage, including Indigenous stockmen and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. With interactive touch-screen displays, visitors can explore Aboriginal culture, European exploration routes, pioneer life, and the role of stockmen.
Good insight into some of our Pioneers. This is a 'go your own' tour with an iPod and headphones provided. Starts with a 20min movie that provided good, relevant information. We also watched the live show that tells a story with bush poetry and whip cracking.
Paul G — Google review
Fabulous, brilliant. Moving cinema, amazing audio guidedmuseum, outstanding live show, in season. Fantastic selection of souvenirs and good Cafe. Allow 4 to 5 hours for complete package.
Lesley N — Google review
We absolutely loved our time at the Stockman's hall of fame. The live show was very well done with lots of humour, beautifully recited poetry, and a lot of great insights. The final part of the show was a touching tribute to the horses left behind after the war and the poor Stockmen who had to walk away without their mate. This was very moving and a part of history we were unaware of. Despite being school holidays, we had the cinema room virtually all to ourselves as everyone had gone to the earlier session. Again, this was very informative and shared interesting parts of history. The museum itself is extremely well laid out. Our 4 kids ranging from 6 - 15 years really enjoyed doing the treasure hunt through the museum. This kept them engaged for almost 2 hours, allowing us adults to explore at our own pace. The staff were very friendly and happy to have a chat about various things. You can tell they have a heart for their town and it's history, which is very special.

What a great experience, Well worth taking your time and enjoy the museum, The short film prior to the show was very informative , The show itself is brilliant Stu and Kelly do a great job with humour and the facts making for an interesting time , MUST SEE ,

Loved the experience, digital technology was excellent to interact with. All the individual sound tracks just made you feel a real part of the stories told. Highly recommend and allow a few hours at least to take it all in.
Andrew D — Google review
Went in October so no shows. Was great though because it wasn't crowded at all. Excellent self paced tours with an ipod and earphones. Made a nice balance of reading and listening.
Tanya B — Google review
Excellent facility to learn about the drovers and pioneers of inland Australia that centres around the museum. The highlight however was the live stockman show that was both entertaining and informative. Don’t be surprised to be brought to tears towards the end of the very moving show. Entry is somewhat excessive, but justifiable as a once.

The Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame is a must see when you are visiting Longreach. I loved the collection of artefacts and all the Australian history. The demonstration of the live Outback Stockmans show was terrific . Stew and Kel did an amazing job. You can tell from the presentation that they are very passionate about the outback from the past to present days. The museum was very interactive and very kid friendly. All the staff were amazing and helpful. You will need about 3-4 hrs to take it all in. Great day for the whole family. I would definitely book online before going. There is also a cafe for refreshments that was reasonably priced.

Camden Park Station

Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Camden Park Station is a captivating destination that immerses you in the heart of Australia's outback. Here, you'll have the chance to meet Outback Dan and his family as they welcome you to their expansive 18,000-acre working sheep and cattle station. The experience begins with a stroll through the historical homestead gardens, shearing shed, and cattle yards before indulging in a delightful smoko break.
Outback Dan is the best tour guide we have ever experienced, his family & homestead are absolutely delightful. Enjoying a homemade dinner in their shearing shed at sunset is a must DO! Brooke is a great chef and wife of the funtabulous Outback Dan. Loved this experience. Camp area looks epic too for the outback red org Ange magical sunsets
Stacey D — Google review
We booked a hipcamp farm stay under the big hay shed, it was full with 7 vans on the first night very pleasant chatting with other campers, a nice small group. Very quiet after most of them left the next morning. Lots of land to walk or ride your bike around. Price includes power and they now have bathroom facilities with flushing toilets & showers.
Ann G — Google review
Top place to stay. Not fancy but definitely worth it for the quiet and open paddock outlook
Nathan A — Google review
The marketing pictures and the description of the camp and facilities are not what is advertised. The camping location is one section of the front paddock, the camp is a Hay Shed and your site in the Hay Shed at best is 2 metres wide x 8 metres long and your camping neighbour is a meter away, and there’s one toilet. There are MUCH better camp sites in Ilfracombe and Longreach!

In September 2021, we drove to Longreach and opted to do a five day Tour with Outback Aussie Tours. Visiting Camden Park and meeting the Walker family, was the highlight for me. Outback Dan boarded our small bus as we entered the property and we drove to ‘the hill’ where Outback Dan’s Mum had set up drinks for us as we watched the sunset. Along the way Dan described various aspects of the property and we saw Mum pig with several piglets. He also offered us a job cleaning his 55,000 solar panels. 😀 We were made to feel very much a part of this lovely family who like others in the area, have suffered the effects of a 10 yr drought. It’s a tough life but they have diversified to keep the property going. It has been in the family for five generations. Sadly they had been forced to sell another property. After sunset we moved to the Shearing Shed where Brooke (Outback Dan’s wife) had prepared an amazing meal for us. White tablecloths, chandeliers and all. After dinner Dan took us outside for some stargazing and an opportunity to try whip cracking. The Walker family are very special and we were all made to feel part of their lives. It was a very memorable evening. Just wishing we could get back there again soon. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful supplier to work with! Outback Dan and his amazing family are always so willing and welcoming to all of our guests who visit Longreach. The station tour is so informative and really gives an amazing insight into life on the land. The tour is complimented by the delicious home cooked meal that is provided. A visit to Camden Park Station is a must when visiting Longreach!

The Walker family (the owners) give you the tour. They tell you about their lives and history of the place. Great country hospitality! Very nice historic home, with a large living room. Queen Elizabeth II visited this home. (I say that to show the importance of the family and the home at that time, I think it was around 1970, not celebrity adulation for the Queen.) One of my favourite activities in Longreach.

Ilfracombe Machinery and Heritage Museum

I stopped by last night to stretch the legs and was so impressed I came back again in the daylight for a better view. I’m blown away with what has been achieved here, reminded me of the fine work done in Croydon. Pride in the town and its heritage but also with an eye on the future. I’m so pleased that money was spent on a concrete path as the prickles are terrible, ouch! There are plenty of bins, seating and public toilets. Happy to donate!
Paul S — Google review
The 'Machinery Mile' is fascinating. It contains a beautiful collection of various machinery used throughout the district since the early 20th century. The machines are donated and well cared for by local volunteers. As a machinery fanatic, I spent no less than two hours combing through and photographing the collection. As it is on the main road through Ilfracombe you cannot miss it! Parking is plentiful, even for caravans. I'd love to add more photos, but the upload would take days!!
BJ P — Google review
Good place to spot by and stretch your legs on your long journey across out back Queensland. Loads of interesting machineries on display.
Lerong L — Google review
Great collection of old machinery spread out along the highway. Well worth stopping in for a look
Nicholas M — Google review
I was expecting this to be a boring display but holy smokes it’s interesting and fun and you can still see some working fan blades on the machines. Thoughtful benches and picnic tables throughout the short walk and a pub nearby if you need a beer to steady you after witnessing the glory of the machines.
R C — Google review
It's free to visit and makes for a good rest stop. Selection of machinery, old gun display including WWII weapons, bottle collection and other assortment of items. When we visited we were the only ones there. The most interesting machines there were the converted WWII tanks which were modified for earthmoving.

Fabulous museum, so much information so allow plenty of time to make the most of it. I only had an hour and although I saw nearly everything, it was rushed. Excellent displays, well set out.

The Australian Workers Heritage Centre which is the only national attraction dedicated to celebrating the extraordinary legacy of working Australians. The Centre is spread across over two hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding a tranquil billabong, which presents exhibits capturing the spirit our nation's workers. Including the Story of the Great Shearer’s Strike 1891, 'Working Women' Project, a 'One Teacher School', 'Working for Health' exhibition, 'Kunwarara' Railway Station and the original Australian Workers Union Hall plus the original Celebrations Theatre from the Bicentennial Tour. Add this to your adventure list, you won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic history of workers struggles beginning with 1891 shearers' strike Tree of knowledge nearby and its progeny in the centre
Dianne H — Google review
Great extensive exhibition of all things Union! So good to learn and experience. So well done.
Rendle W — Google review
Really worth the 2.5 hrs spent here! You walk through early century original train carriages, police station, school buildings furnished with all the early school slates and memorabilia of the era. Ots is a really large group of buildings surrounding a shady lake setting with seating. Watch video of people and stories back in time of the shearing strike and origins of the labour party. A new entry to the Heritage Museum is just about finished in the main street.
Doug N — Google review
An excellent museum/heritage centre with great exhibits illustrating various aspects of work and the development of trade unions and the labour movement in Qld and Australia, including the Shearer's strike of 1891. A much more down to earth and interesting centre than the nearby and much hyped Stockman's Hall of Fame in Longreach.

This would have to be the best Australian heritage centre I have ever visited, the amount of history held here from all over Queensland and Australia is astronomical, from local history to major Australian history, was so much fun for the family, and even spotted my wife in the museum, kids had alot of fun and even has a playground for them, the staff are so lovely and made the tour so pleasurable. Thank you very much to the staff today. We will be back for sure.

The Tree of Knowledge is a $5-million contemporary art installation located outside a train station. It is an upside-down milk crate-shaped structure that looks stunning at night when the wooden wind chimes allow dappled light to filter through. The tree itself is a preserved version of the original eucalyptus where striking shearers met during the 1891 strike.
So sad someone poisoned the original tree but well preserved and enhanced especially beautiful at night. Honours the shearers that met in 1891 to strike when denied fair wages and conditions

Well done Barcaldine amazing how the tree of knowledge is displayed and what a nice town clean friendly people was very surprised how great this little town is

A nice bit of QLD and Australian history. Unfortunately it currently has fences around it. No explanation of why. Still you can get a feel and perhaps more importantly, hear the haunting sounds of the timber wind chimes.

Interesting for history and engineering buffs. Very welcoming and such a comprehensive tour.
Nic ( — Google review
One of the best attractions I have visited in my outback travels. Maybe not as slick in presentation as some, but this Woolscour has been lovingly restored and maintained such that little imagination is required to feel the experience of early 1900's. That the machinery worked at the throw of a switch blew my mind. Our guide, Jeff, had worked there and was authentic and entertaining. Great tour.

Fabulous enlightenment that wool isn't just about the shearers. So much more to getting wool to the retailer that we never considered. Well set out, manicured green lawns. Machinery great in working order to give you appreciation of what was needed over 100 years ago and still runs. Our guide was very knowledgeable.

We visited and thoroughly enjoyed our three days break on our way to Darwin so had to stay again on our way south. An entertaining free guided tour, check with the Information Centre for details, and the historic Woolscour tour were really good, a lovely township with gold coin donation camping along the bore fed creek. The day I popped in I couldn't get much assistance with locating good birding spots. It is just a simple stump of wood in town with historical significance. It is right on the street, free viewing.
Anabel P — Google review
Small replacement of a historical landmark. There was not much to do around nor a significant reason to stop. The actual location itself is easy to miss, and could use some sort of place-setting to make the atraction more apparent. There is some singing from the town, however it is in fact easy to miss. Still recommend a stop if you're passing by.

Amazing, one of a kind place. More like a museum for me rather than a shop since the Teddies cost a small fortune. But business is clearly booming - there was a small queue of people buying one or more items & the phone was ringing pretty much nonstop with customers placing orders over the phone. It is an interesting place to visit. The Teddies are adorable, coming in all sizes and colours. Tambo famous Teddies are handmade from wool and perfect and unique gift. There is another shop in Toowoomba, but Tambo is an original shop with a workshop on-site. If in Tambo do not miss a chance to visit it.

Tambo Information Centre

Tourist information center
Visitor Centers
Excellent Information Centre located in a very pretty, beautifully restored historical building, which looks like a postcard. There are plenty of free brochures relating to the local area. Information Centre shares location with library & has a small display of original Tambo famous Teddies handmade from wool as well as lovely handmade quilt. Sharon, who works there, was very helpful. She is knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend making a stop & visiting the Tambo Information Center.

Not just the info centre but also the town libaray and the lady who was running it for the last few days has been very helpful and allowed me to use my laptop on the libaray wifi for Facebook and email. Thank you for your help and kindness.

Great park and the Meat Ant sculpture is well worth seeing, just up the street is a fantastic painted silo. Take the time to stop in Augathella and support a country town that supports travellers
