Beautiful walkway with lots of things to look at and read on the way from Cannonvale beach to Airlie Lagoon. Sculptures, restaurants, yacht club, stand up paddle boarding, kayaks and tour booking places. It's around 4klm long.

The coastal trail is very well built, very clean and has many places to rest, I love it here!
Xinyong C — Google review
You've got wet, rippled sand in the foreground that looks perfect for squelching your toes in, if you don't mind dodging all those dark, scattered rocks. The beach leads back to a rugged shoreline with rolling hills in the distance. The soft, hazy light and pale sky give it a very peaceful, 'I'm-escaping-it-all' kind of vibe.
Koonthos K — Google review
Lovely boardwalk although it was very hot when we visited, Google maps currently has it closed for much of the week, this is incorrect, it's open 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Beautiful scenery and a smooth walkway that goes for miles, with uninterrupted views of Airlie Beach waters , landscape and Islands. Great photo opportunities along the way.

Really a beautiful, nice little shop. The name describes perfectly how it is to be inside. Each room is different with a different colour and scheme. It's just amazing how much of a variety is in there. It's a must see if you're in Proserpine.

Wow - almost a sensory overload experience! 😁💗 This place contains everything gift oriented, ornamental, jewellery, garden, indoor-outdoor mats & cushions, wall art, crystal hangers, coffee mugs, glassware, candles, handbags, belts, clothing, shoes, toys, etc - anything that you could think of! It's like a rabbit warren of pretty & funky happiness! Well worth a look when in the town of Proserpine, or "Prosvegas" as it is alternatively known!.. 😀 It's also conveniently located next to the pub & an EV charging station, if needing to take time out for lunch & a quick car charge up.

It is my favourite arty shop. Love all the quirky ornaments beautiful gemstones and rings and ear rings. Lovely chimes outside that sing in the wind. Always a lovely experience. I bought my daughter's favourite tea-cup there as I have over the years.

Whitsundays airport has to be the friendliest, endearing, genuine, chill experience that I have ever experienced at any airport. I’ve visited many airports in my time and I’ve now had the pleasure to enjoy Whitsundays airport several times. Without a fail, the security crew, the hospitality crew and the cleaners (all of the crew) will have a laugh with you and make you smile in one way or another. Their positive engaging energy does not go unnoticed and it’s appreciated every time. Thanks team ☺️🫶🐠
Rachel S — Google review
Whitsunday Coast Airport (PPP) – ★★★☆☆ Cozy, clean, and easy to get around – the airport itself is pleasant and well-maintained. However, there are no food options whatsoever apart from a single café that severely overcharges. Airport prices are expected, but having only one place to eat feels very limiting. We paid $50 AUD for a hot dog, two cold supermarket-style sandwiches, and a Coke. For an airport in such a popular tourist destination, there really should be at least one more dining option.
Lucas E — Google review
Thankyou BRADLEY at The Virgin Priority Check-In counter, your profressional service and courteousness to my husband and I was outstanding. You greeted us with a smile, smartly dressed and attended to our needs. Virgin should be proud to have such a quality staff member representing their company.
Luma W — Google review
I dont understand how this airport currently has 4.1 stars. It has to be one of the prettiest and best maintained small airports I have ever been to. Staff was very friendly too! It sure deserves +5 stars.
Jordania B — Google review
I parked for 3 days and 35 minutes and was charged $94 AUD, even though the displayed rate was $21 per day for 3–5 days (which should have been $63). When I tried to clarify through the intercom, the staff member was unhelpful and rude. Very disappointing experience and poor customer service.
Dupuy A — Google review
The airport is easy to get around being a small regional airport. It was clean and organised enabling us to to get in and out quickly. There are a couple of car rental companies on site directly opposite the baggage claim.
David A — Google review
We highly rate our check in today. Easy and customer service was exceptional., thank you Jetstar!!!! we ate at the cafe on site which was also excellent, reasonable prices for an airport cafe A great experience, thank you
Susan M — Google review
A pretty standard and small airport. No hot meals available to purchase (besides instant noodles), and airlines are notorious for delaying flights - so if you like to eat good food make sure to load up before you arrive. If you’re okay with snacks, there’s a great range at the captain and co convenience corner within the terminal.

Hamilton Island Marina

Boat storage facility
Hamilton Island Marina is a bustling hub on the island, offering a variety of services to and from the marina daily. The main business district along the street features cafes, restaurants, an art gallery, and water activities. Visitors can enjoy undercover seating while watching yachts and boats docked in the area. The marina provides world-class service with helpful staff who go above and beyond for guests. While prices may be high, it's worth it for the unique experience in the Whitsundays.
This is oldschool five star service run by a team of industry professionals from the office management to the ladies who made the radios and do the bookings. The boys on the pontoon and concierge service is second to none and absolutely world-class. Everything is at your fingertips from IGA, bottle shop, pharmacy and amazing bakery and restaurants all within a five minute walk Having worked in quality assurance internationally for a luxury hotel collection. I give the Marina staff 10 out of 10 on every level and in every department.
Tarrent H — Google review
Best is arriving by yacht, but also by plane. The key is renting the golf cart 150 bucks. And you good to go round the island.
Kanyanat V — Google review
The marina side of the island has the IGA, Bottle Shop, departure terminals for day trips, Newsagency with plenty of toys and gifts, Ice Cream Shop, cafe for breakfast, Dive shop, Pizzeria Place, Romano’s Italian, Bakery, Fishis Fish Shop, dress shops, surf shop, Tavern and the Yacht Vlub that has Bonnie’s Restaurant and the deck for afternoon drinks at the Yacht Club. Perfect place to spend the day.

Donna-Louise W — Google review
Very nice marina. This place is really very pretty. The staff are very friendly the weather is perfect the whole island is accessible. You can walk everywhere. They have amazing walking tracks to go on. I would defiantly recommend this place to visit. Honestly everything is just amazing
Struan H — Google review
An incredible island. Scooting around on golf buggies is loads of fun, and there is lots to do on the island to keep you occupied other than just taking in the amazing view. A must see.
Gemma H — Google review
Gets very busy around lunch time. Tavern, fish and chips and bakery open. Best to download the Hamilton Island app to see what's open and trading times. Not all cruises and water activities and some restaurants are operating.
Shelley R — Google review
What's not to love. Not too crowded but still a bit of a vibe. From the bakery to the yacht club there is a price point for everyone to get a meal. Or self cater from the IGA. Departure point for all cruises and ferries.Pleasantly not crowded with the typical brand names. No McDonalds and no Prada either. Hang out at the many picnic tables or have a champagne at the yacht club and enjoy the views.

Hamilton Island Wildlife

Mentioned on

Wildlife park
Outdoor Activities
Hamilton Island Wildlife offers guided tours through simulated natural habitats where visitors can encounter koalas, kangaroos, dingos, and pythons. The park is a popular spot for families to enjoy a hearty barbecue breakfast at the Koala Gallery while observing sleepy koalas munching on gum leaves. The recent addition of a baby Joey has made the koalas an even more attractive attraction.
Cute Cafe with super friendly staff and the most gorgeous animals. Take the kids to see and pet the animals and finish off with some light lunch. Typical bakery or local dairy menu. We were able to walk in as it was a Tuesday off mid Aug off peak season. Party of 5.
Tee M — Google review
The place is nice, but the animals have very small living spaces. While it was enjoyable to see the animals, it was quite sad from an ethical standpoint, especially concerning the crocodile and the dingoes. There are many wallabies and kangaroos, along with other birds, freely roaming the island, which makes it seem unnecessary for them to be kept in the zoo.
Luizi P — Google review
Hamilton Island Wildlife Park was a disappointing experience. The $35 ticket price per adult felt unreasonable, given the poor conditions the animals were kept in. The enclosures were far too small, especially for the giant crocodile and dingoes, which was heartbreaking to see. Even the koalas had very limited space, making the entire place feel cramped and unsuitable for the animals’ well-being. The zoo itself is quite small, and it takes only about five minutes to walk through as there aren’t many animals to see. Considering the high ticket prices, I expected better care and more spacious enclosures for the animals. It was truly upsetting to see them in such conditions, and I hope improvements are made for their welfare.
Neha S — Google review
Went to the daily 10am Keepers tour... Lea was excellent guide with some great insights on all the animals.. particularly the dingos. They could do with more staff at the tills to enter as was busy and 1 girl making coffee, selling tickets and taking payment from gift shop.
Senan H — Google review
My island coffee haven. Nestled beside the koala's and animal exhibits. This cafe boasts a range of juices, snacks, cakes, sandwiches, and pastries. Cafe entry is free, with a separate fee applying to the wildlife park, and a premium VIP experience available for booking.
Leanne W — Google review
2 of 5 stars. It's a small and okay-ish wildlife centre. There's two dingos, Big Mac the croc in the photo, a reptile area, Cassawary and heaps of kangas which you can see on the Island anyways. Interesting for the kids, but not worth the price in my view.
Abhishek ( — Google review
Very small but enjoyable. Who doesn't love a Koala?
Ian H — Google review
Great place to spend an hour or so with the kids. If you can, do go for the up close experiences. This is not a huge exhibit by any means, however, it is very charming and pleasant. The quaint cafe with the koalas is just the spot to relax and have a drink or two. Highly recommended for younger kids.

Ricardo S — Google review
One of those beaches that are amazing to look at but not the greatest to actually experience. The beach sand wasn’t as smooth and soft as you’d like and there were loads of pebbles. The tide goes out really far and you can walk very far out. Saw a few turtles and rays.
The H — Google review
This beach is beautiful, high tide is great for floating around, kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkelling no waves so great for kids. Low tide moves around 2 metres of water you can walk out a fare way. Lots of beach lounges to sit in the shade and there’s takeaway food just a minute walk. If you are staying at the main hotels all beach equipment is included in your stay, show them your room card and write your name down.
Bonnie H — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous beach. Beautiful soft sand and bright blue water. The Bay stays relatively flat and is perfect for water activities. You can pay to use paddle boards, canoes, snorkels etc. If you stay at Reef View (maybe some other hotels, I am not sure which ones), then it's complimentary. The Pool Bar is nearby, so you can enjoy a cocktail or mocktail while you sun-bake. The beach is quite long, so there is plenty of space for everyone. There are also some tables, chairs and umbrellas.
Georgia ( — Google review
Beautiful. Has pools and a beach (unfortunately low tide when we went). Nice and relaxing. Pretty cold in the middle of September. Music playing in the background and a bar attached to one of the pools too!
Alyssa S — Google review
Agree with the other reviewers, this is a beautiful little beach. Warm water, nice sand and sailing or snorkeling options just off shore. You will need to check with tides and wind conditions as this does affect how clear the water is. A lot of beach options available including just sitting there and enjoying.
Zeglar F — Google review
Highlight was being able to see so many big sea turtles swimming next to you. The reef itself was below par.
Richy — Google review
Straight across from the resorts, plenty of water activities on high tide, snorkeling on low tide, coral, sea life and turtle tours. Bring the underwater camera/go pro.Pool bar close by or bring your own snacks and drinks. Plenty of chairs and shade.

At the quad bikes we were late due to the bus arrival time. The staff wasn't very helpful saying that there weren't any more slots for us to fit in because we were only 10 minutes later after our booked lesson. At least having a few minutes would might have been alright. We then moved to the Go-Karting Racing Track, hoping to have a ride on the go parts. We explained to one the worker who was named Tommy. He listened to our story and placed us in the time slot for quad bikes. He then supplied one of my daughter's some shoes and a fresh bandage because she had fallen. Which was a very kind action. Anyway, Tommy was gentle towards my two daughters. They found him funny. My 2 daughters absolutely loved him. We recommend going there and seeing Tommy, and he'll make your experience much better. Thank you, Tommy!
Yi P — Google review
Good fun. I would recommend getting there early as l did, as it made it easier to get around the track without worrying about others on the track.

Heaps of fun, we had a blast. We totally recommend checking it out. Super helpful and friendly staff and good karts. My son and I got super competitive with each other trying to get under 26 second laps, neither of us quite got there (27.448 for me and 26.970 for him) but we had a bucket of fun trying.

Passage Peak

Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Passage Peak on Hamilton Island offers a challenging hike with stunning panoramic views of the Whitsunday Islands. The trail, which takes about 45-60 minutes to complete, features well-maintained tracks and stairs, as well as steep inclines with loose gravel. It is recommended to wear closed-in shoes and bring a good light for the dark sections before sunrise. The view from the summit is absolutely breathtaking and worth the effort.
Absolutely stunning view to witness first thing in the morning. The hike to get here from Catseye Beach area is moderate, however there are a lot of steps up towards the peak which will get you puffing. The trail is very dark prior to sunrise, so ensure you have a good light, and expect to walk through lots of spider webs. If walking, probably allow 45-60 minutes. If you are a good runner, you could do it in 20-25 minutes (but you’ll be pretty knackered by the top). There were only about 4 other people who were up there for sunrise the day I visited, so it’s great to just sit, relax and appreciate nature at its finest.
Jason H — Google review
Loved the Passage Peak walk! There are well maintained tracks and stairs as well as steep-ish inclines with some loose gravel. Although the Tracks is maintained I would not recommend those with knee or ankle issues to do the walk. Closed in shoes are recommended. Low-Moderate level of fitness however those with low fitness can take a few breathers and make it with ease. The view is well worth it. 1.5hours MAX return trip. 1.9km each way.
Jayde P — Google review
Beautiful lookout over Hamilton Island and the surrounding Whitsunday islands. This is the highest point on Hamilton, and has 360 degree views. This is rated as one of the hardest hikes on the island, but it really isn’t bad. There’s a decent amount of stairs. We made it up in 30 minutes going at a good pace. The views are totally worth it!
Steven T — Google review
Although you need a bit of a fitness base, this is doable for anyone! The last bit of stairs is the hardest, but your shaded most of the time and it’s a slow climb. Would recommend for everyone, it’s beautiful up there!! Take snacks for a bit of a sit
Lawrence B — Google review
Absolutely stunning walk with incredible views!! Definitely worth doing early in the morning.
Seisia L — Google review
Amazing walking route with beautiful views and a good level of activity without using the whole day. Would recommend! Getting to the route: There are two start points. One is the Scenic Trail Entrance and one is the Resort Trail Entrance. Both entrances are accessible from the shuttle bus stop "Whitsunday Apartments" by either green or blue shuttle (both free). The green is a shorter loop with fewer stops and so would get you there quicker. There is also a Green stop next to the ice-cream parlour across the road from when you get off the ferry. Alternatively you can walk from the ferry terminal which is about 15minute walk down a straight road. If you got the bus - Once at Whitsunday Apartments you can follow the road back down from the stop then turn right up a hill (signposted) to reach the Resort Trail Entrance. Otherwise continue down the hill on the left. At the bottom of this small hill is a signpost showing the direction of the two start points. You can follow this arrow, heading parallel, to the ocean until you reach the Scenic Trail Entrance. If you didn't get the bus then just continue all the way down the road to its natural end. There is a water fountain at the start of the Scenic Trail Entrance. The route: The route is well maintained and well signposted. It was shaded a lot of the way up and wasn't too hot on a 25°C day. There were a couple of steep bits and certainly worth going in closed toed shoes, despite the surefootedness. There were small patches of mud, suggesting it probably gets a little muddier / more treacherous if there had been heavy or recent rains. There were steps for a lot of the way from Saddle Junction. It advises an hour on the way up but with moderate fitness, not rushing, and a couple of photo-ops, it took probably around 45-50mins from the STE (approx 30-40mins to come back down). There are multiple picnic bench stops (including one at the very top) which weren't in use by others when we went and a few viewpoints. The views at every single one of these points were magnificent and from the top one of the nicest panoramas you'll find anywhere in the world. The route wasn't too busy - only passed a few other people - and it was clean and tidy with little lizards (and maybe a snake) to keep you watching where you put your feet!
Louis H — Google review
Fabulous walk that is straight up and has many stairs but if you persist, you are rewarded with absolutely spectacular views. Take water! No water on the track
Melanie S — Google review
A spectacular walk with an amazing view of Hamilton Island and some other Whitsunday Islands along the entire track. This steep track has a lot of uphill on rocky terrain and many stairs, but worth the view. You will only find a few others on the track, so it is best to bring a picnic and stop to have lunch at some of the many picnic tables along the way. Make sure to bring lots of water. You can also download the Hamilton Island app and listen to an audio tour of the island along the way.

What a great asset to the area. Loved visiting. Esp. Platypus and turtles.

Beautiful nature up the Mountain range! Go to the broken river trails to spot platypus! We saw two different ones and loved the walks.
Kristin S — Google review
Amazing place! We were this morning about 8am and we saw two platypus! Really amazing experience! You need to be patience and quiet, so good luck!
Alejandro C — Google review
A very nice place with rain forest walking trails and a trail all the Broken River where you can see turtles and platypus in the creek The platypus is rather elusive but we saw some in the creek and also spotted a water rat
Graeme F — Google review
The drive down to the dam was 45 minutes on a bumpy dirt track. It was horrible and not worth it. The platypus viewing was a great spot as was the lovely scenery.

Amazing national park, nice for a day to see the Broken river and do some small hikes. Stayed at Fern Flats campgrounds, cheap and nice tugged in the jungle near the river. Saw platypus of course, try it in the morning or afternoon though, if it’s too hot already, they might not appear. Wallabies also walk around in the jungle around you, really likes it

Amazing place. Went there in late October during the week. There are toilets at the start of the walk. If you intend to go there while it’s raining, don’t. Wait a day or two. Recommend good walking shoes if you intend to head to the top waterfall, “Wheel of fire”. (For those who take things literally, it’s not a wheel of fire 😂). The walk is challenging for those who feel stairs are their arc nemesis’. Take some water, especially if it’s a hot day. Take a towel. You will want to get in. Wear a hat. Especially if you sizzle in the sun like I do. Only take those who are willing to walk. NOT recommended for princesses (all kinds), as the noise spoils it for the trees and they die (this has not been proven by any scientific studies). Allow around 2-3hrs+ of enjoyment.

Enjoy seamless swimming amidst the lush foliage of a tropical forest. Beware of snakes on the rocky area at the bottom of the stairs.

A beautiful part of Eungella National Park with an excellent short hike featuring some spectacular falls and swimming holes. Wear good sturdy footwear, take your swimmers, a towel and pack your backpack with lunch and water for a good trip. The Forested walk is really beautiful. The path is clearly marked and has some small rocky stair sections. Your first stop will be Araluen Cacades. A stunning rock pools beneath a waterfall. Next stop is Callistemon Crossing. A large rocky crossing that you may not be able to cross when the water level is up. Last stop is Wheel of Fire. This section is currently closed (August 2025).

Awesome George with Waterfalls , Cascades Walking track through lush rainforest & Moss covered boulders. Car park small though. And 4 creek crossings to cross. Add to the adventure.
Wayne B — Google review
The drive into this park alone is worth 5 stars. You drive through the crystal clear river/creek several times on your way up the valley, truly magnificent. The walking track there is also nice to meander through
Andy M — Google review
Lovely little hike to two great swimming spots. The Cascades might be my favourite one for swimming but it's also more busy as the walk in shorter and no stairs (contrary to wheel of fire). Definitely check this place out if you got a change. Drive in was super easy in November. Yes some little river crossings but nothing to worry about in any car. Some other time of year it would probably take a high clearance vehicle
Stephanie A — Google review
About 30minutes walk to the waterfall from the car park. Beautiful view.
Sienna B — Google review
It was a magnificent place to test stamina but was well worth the hard work. The first swimming area is quite easy and absolutely stunning, and even if you stop at this point, you can bathe in the beauty, for swimming under a small waterfall and have an amazing time. But if you are game, the walk continues to another swimming hole. This is a bit more taxing and does require some agility and fitness it is mostly uphill either by stairs or path. You have to cross a creek also with large rocks you will need to navigate. Good walking shoes will minimise ankle twists. If you hurt yourself it is a long way for help. I am not the fittest but did it all the same. Be warned at either swimming hole the water was ice cold but i was there in September so may be not so bad throught hotter months. A must must see and walk.

We did the Diwaia and Andrews Point Lookout and twin Beach Lookout today. Easy walk, there were families with young children walking. Andrew's Point Track is 5.2klm Rtn or 2.8klm rtn back along the beach. Find a couple of caves along the way. The best view was at Diwaia Lookout. There, you could look across to Slade Point.

Disappointing to see national parks and rangers supporting the feeding of wild animals for a profit side by side with tourism groups....ruins the whole experience watching the beauty of nature with the sunrise when you have to follow all their rules. Aren'twe always taught not to feed wild animals?......seems they can if there is money involved

Cape Hillsborough National Park, located on Queensland’s central coast, is a captivating destination that combines pristine beaches, dense rainforests, and unique wildlife encounters. This hidden gem offers visitors a chance to experience the best of Australia’s natural beauty in a peaceful and remote setting. The park’s scenery is nothing short of spectacular. Visitors are greeted by dramatic coastal headlands, lush rainforests, and eucalyptus woodlands that stretch out to the turquoise waters of the Coral Sea. Each turn along the walking trails offers a new perspective, from sweeping ocean views to the tranquil sounds of the forest. Beyond wildlife watching, the park offers a range of activities for all types of visitors. There are several walking trails, such as the Andrews Point Track, which takes hikers through a variety of landscapes, including rainforests and rocky lookouts, with breathtaking coastal views. For those who enjoy water activities, the park’s beaches are perfect for swimming and fishing, although caution is advised due to the presence of marine stingers during certain seasons. While Cape Hillsborough’s remote location contributes to its charm, it also means facilities are limited. Basic amenities like picnic areas, barbecue facilities, and toilets are available, but visitors should come prepared with their own food, water, and supplies. Accommodation options include a small camping area within the park and nearby lodges and caravan parks. The best time to visit Cape Hillsborough is during the dry season, from April to September, when the weather is mild, and the chances of rain are lower. This period also provides the best conditions for wildlife sightings and outdoor activities. **Pros:** - Stunning natural landscapes with diverse scenery. - Tranquil atmosphere, away from crowds. **Cons:** - Limited facilities and amenities. - Remote location requires careful planning for supplies and transportation. - Risk of marine stingers in the water during certain seasons. In conclusion, Cape Hillsborough National Park is a must-visit destination for those who love nature, wildlife, and the great outdoors. While its remote setting and lack of extensive facilities may not suit every traveler, those who make the journey will be rewarded with unforgettable experiences in one of Queensland’s most beautiful coastal landscapes.

Nice place to stop for a coffee. Burgers were pretty good too. And had an informative display about Melba
Elle W — Google review
Melba House is open by volunteers. The actual house is an absolute delight to visit. Dame Nellie Melba was certainly a true Australian icon, and by seeing where she grew up is very unique. The videos and artifacts from that era are something for all generations to see. However, the visitor center connected to the Melba House is a dismal disappointment, should you wish to have a coffee or a bite to eat you can't get anything from 12:30 onwards.... So take a thermos a packed lunch or drive a little further down the road to be ripped off by exorbitant prices for food.

It's so fun! I went with my two friends (24 yo and 27 yo) and we had a lot of fun. It's true that it's all mainly kids, but it was not crowded and adults can have fun there as well. The staff is really nice and you can have a drink at the bar later. It is very tiring, 1h sounds like not a lot but at the end you're actually exhausted, so 1h is actually perfect.

At a lake in nearby Andergrove, Wakehouse operates a cable for wakeboarding but also has an enormous, fun-packed inflatable course floating in the water. In 50-minute sessions, this is available to children as young as four and has long walkways, slides and all sorts of tricky obstacles to climb. One of the best bits is the giant water blob, propelling people several metres into the air. Wakehouse also runs a restaurant making tacos, pizza, breakfast dishes and sweet treats.

Amazing public pool. Preferred the Yeppoon Lagoon for its views over the beach and more deep areas of the pool, but still a fantastic lagoon and amazing to be free to the public. Wonderful to have this available, extremely well maintained and set out. Definitely worth a visit.

We absolutely loved our visit to the Sarina Sugar Shed! We arrived after 5 hours of driving so it was a great opportunity for a 'sugar kick' The tour was incredibly informative and engaging, thanks to our enthusiastic guide who brought the local sugar industry and history to life. It was fascinating to learn how sugar is made from sugar cane right here in the region. The equipment displays and hands-on elements made it even more interesting. A lovely touch was how the experience caters to kids — they even make fresh fairy floss for them to enjoy, which was a big hit! The tour ended with delicious liqueur tastings featuring unique, locally made flavours. A fun, educational, and tasty outing for all ages!

Do yourself a favour and put this place on your to do list. It's brilliant, and you'll be surprised and amazed at how the sugar processing works from the humble sugar cane. The staff are so friendly and our guide Jess (aka Clarry) was a wealth of information. We loved the fairy floss at the end of our tour 😎 The cafe serves yummy food so don't forget to indulge yourself. There's a fabulous shop on site with a great selection of locally made products.

Excellent tours, Nikki was informative and fun. She served our lunch as well as worked in the shop. Very multi skilled. The platter was delicious and quite enough for 2. I noted all the food was not expensive. The 2 tours and platter cost around $100, which we thought 👍 great.

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE. QLD is renowned for their cain fields. So there is no better way to learn how the sugar process is done. Our fabulous guide Nikki enlightened us on the process from farm to store process through mini versions of the machinery and a video. The tour was interactive as we all were given a different name tag that tied in with the process. Finished the tour with chutney's, sauces and liquor tasting from the sugar they produce 😋 Let's not forget the fairy floss!!! There is a cafe and a store to buy their delicious products (at reasonable prices) Betty in the shop was another stand out legend. Thanks Sugar Shed for a wonderful experience 🫶

The Sugar Shed is a must to visit! We stopped there a couple of weeks ago to do the school holiday tour, to find the loveliest team of staff you could hope to come across (even though we were running late 🫣) The tour was really interesting and informative for us southerners who know nothing about sugar cane farming, and the products were sooo good! Nob Creek Pottery

Nob Creek Pottery is a properly amazing place. It may seem like it's a bit of a drive from Rocky or Yeppoon, but it is absolutely worth it. The pieces available here, I can't really describe them, you'll have to look at the photos, but they are works of art. @Nob Creek Pottery, I'm going from memory here so if I've got something wrong please correct me. Nob Creek specialise in wood fired pottery. There are several kilns including a massive one called "Anagama" that has recently been brought back to life after years out of service. It takes about 3 months to make the pieces to fill this kiln and a week to place the pieces in it and bring it up to temperature. After that it needs to stay at that temperature for several days, requiring wood to be fed to the kiln every 3 to 5 minutes, non-stop, by a group of volunteers. After that there's another week as the kiln cools, followed by several weeks of cleaning before the pieces are ready. That's 4 months of work for a piece of pottery! They also have a kiln in which salt is added towards the end of the firing process, producing this incredible 'orange peel' style glaze. This is a dedicated kiln as the salt actually changes the inside of the kiln, after which it can only ever be used for the salt firing process. Super friendly people, amazing place which they were happy to show me around, and stunning art work. Highly recommended.
Ronni F — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the gallery, understanding how they water carve the pottery and seeing the labour of love that goes into each piece during the process and firing really gave us a deeper appreciation of the pieces on display. The property is spectacular and being able to explore the grounds was wonderful, what a slice of paradise! Went home with a lovely platter to display in our home and 2 happy kids who fell in love with Panda the dog. Well worth a stop.

This whole area is so beautiful shame it's so popular now, some days it's standing room only. Take the aerogaurd the mozzies are bloody hungry, the swimming holes and bush walks are just beautiful, crystal water surrounded by pine and rainforest, while swimming you'll see fish, eels and turtles just be careful of the bullrouts it's a fresh water stone fish. When walking the tracks always be snake smart in the Queensland bush. The camping area is nice big enough sites can get crowded to book early.

Beautiful picnic/BBQ site, nice for a family or group day away. Clean toilets. Bring a hat as shady sitting is mainly under trees. Very cold water but a nice swim too. Wear shoes when in the water or keep your feet off the bottom. Road heading in needs some attention, is just drivable in a non-4WD.

Capricorn Caves is a popular tourist spot known for its complex of subterranean limestone caverns, including a natural cathedral. Located 24km north of Rockhampton near the Caves township, these ancient caves offer a rare acoustic and visual treat. Visitors can explore the honeycombed limestone ridge and marvel at cave coral, stalactites, and dangling fig-tree roots.
Well worth the stop. We booked the kids adventure tour as a last minute thing to break up the drive. 100% Worth the stop. Our youngest can be hard to please and complained about a two hour tour. He actually loved every minute of it and would have loved to have keep on touring the caves. Our guide was so lovely and friendly.

We had an absolutely fantastic day here. The caves were beautiful and easy to traverse with wooden stairs and suspended walkways over the most difficult areas. The acoustics in the Cathedral Cave were totally awesome. Candice, our tour guide, was very informative & enthusiastic with a dry sense of humour. She made the tour thoroughly enjoyable. All the staff were very helpful & friendly. The Capricorn Caves are easy to access, just a short drive from Rockhampton. The café & gift shop were great as were the fossil displays. We only booked the short tour but will definitely be coming back to do the longer tour next time. Highly recommended.

Guided by Maisy our little three-pack had a great two-hour walk-climb-crawl tour of the caves. Straight down in the mud from the go with a snake sighting not long after (during a crawl, just for that extra bit of fun). Through and through the highlight of my three week vacation in the Cairns/Brisbane area.

What a great experience. Our guide Flynn was spot on with his guiding and passion for his horticultural knowledge. Another one of those great "don't drive past" experiences. The fact that it's all privately owned and run add an extra tick in the box. We need to support these ventures.

Amazing experience. We took our two kids (1yo and 3yo) and had the best time. I was worried they wouldn’t enjoy it but they didn’t want to leave. Don was very kind and kept our into short but still shared plenty of knowledge about the volcano and the thunder eggs. It felt like he catered to our kids ages with this chat which was really nice. Once we were finished, the eggs were cut open. You can spend as long as you want digging around the area. We stayed for just under 2hrs. Lots to look at in the shop and check out their rock garden out the back of the shop. Overall great experience and highly recommend checking out with kids of any age! Thank you for a memorable experience

A great experience and a huge learning curve on how to fossick for the Thunder Eggs. We stayed the night at the campground and Don made us feel welcome from arrival. An additional pleasure was having ‘Bobby’ accompany us for the duration of our stay. Highly recommended.

These guys help show us what to do. It was the first time looking for thunder eggs. They show us what to look for and help us. The kids had a blast and us parents did too. The view of the mountains was amazing. They had a few chairs and shared tree to sit under and relax. They really look after the kids by having blocks they could stand on to see, the stones after they were cut and keep them apart of the entire experience. They had poppers to buy and little car/bikes to help keep the little ones happy. The kids filled up a bag of litter stones we purchased from the shop. The staff were friendly and helpful. They really made a delightful experience for the entire family and made sure it was enjoyed by the family. Taking care to think about the needs of their guests and providing for them. Thank you for a wonderful experience and the lovely cut thunder eggs we found. The nicest one will proudly be displayed on our book shelf as a beautiful memory of our adventure with you. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Great find! I thought it woupd be boring, something just for the kids...but no, i was more committed to the hunt than i anticipated, was terrific having them cut to take home. They have bbqs (for byo snags), toilets, free drinking water, little bikes (balance bikes & trikes), enclosed shoes to borrow if needed, foam knealing pad, little step things to sit on which is amazing for bad knees or all us getting on in age..... I recomend to take a picnic rug and some snacks, toy buckets or toy cars for little kids for when rock hunting (& old clothes) then snags for after youre rocks have been cut. We also saw they have showers, camping grounds and swings. They sell beautiful array of gems, precious stones, jewellery & gem home decor items - all are fair prices for the pieces you get and the quality. Food wise they have a little cafe, icecreams and icypoles. Staff were lovely, very helpful and knowledgable, they had a seriously adorable friendly dog too. All of the staff seemed to genuinely love seeing our kids faces (and ours!) Light up seeing the incredible patterns and precious materials which were inside of our finds. Suprised how many they cut for us. We got to take uncut ones with us too. Worth the drive, easy to spend 4-5 hours here. With kids, take rugs, sone trucks or cars, and snacks - ours enjoyed dipping in and out of the thunderegg search. Without those toys and bikes it prob wouldnt have been as enjoyable for them, they can only look at rocks for so long 🤣

We had a wonderful experience and stay at Mt Hay! We loved spending the day hunting for Thunder Eggs and Rainforest Jasper, as well as making friends with Bobby the friendly puppy! We left with some lovely cut pieces and some uncut for us to learn ourselves. Thank you for a great stay 😊

Great experience fossicking for thundereggs and the having some of your finds cut open for you! Ice cream and drinks available after you have worked up a sweat! It was fun continuing to look through the piles to find your fortune! Camping available onsite for those interested.

Absolutely loved this side quest we went on during our travels. The guys running it were lovely and it was nice to be able to take the dog. They have a lovely dog called bobby who is a cheeky chap 🤣 You get so much for your money and if you’re lucky you will see the owners cutting up so awesome stones for the shop. The rock garden also blew my mind. Huge chunks of stones I would pay a lot of money for only $30pkg. If I didn’t have to fly home to Europe I would have handed over my credit card! Wish we camped there too!

What a gem of a place to stay and fossick. The staff are delightful and the camping is cheap. I spent the day fossicking for Thunder Eggs and was so delighted with my stash! They even cut some for me free of charge. If you love fossicking, this is the place to visit.

Gardens
Showcase for a variety of trees, shrubs & herbs, with a waterfall, walking paths & a camping area.
This place is amazing!!! We came in a motorhome and stayed for the night, then checked out the playground in the morning- both toddler and husband LOVED it! Honestly one of the best playgrounds we’ve ever been to! Lots to do for all ages and abilities. Toilets and plenty of shaded picnic tables and benches nearby. We didn’t get to the waterfall unfortunately but drove past it- it looks lovely!!

We wanted to enjoy a gentle walk and good company, and chose Kershaw Gardens, which delivered nicely. There is a good selection of pathways, trees and shrubs to create a peaceful ambiance. For those with kids, there is a great recreation park. Toilets are available in the central area.

I’m at this park all the time as it’s close to home. Great walking tracks and bicycle tracks. In summer the mozzies are out of control and I have fled a few times because of them. Not a lot of new plants that I can see but I am pleased that they have finally cleaned up some of the water weed as I couldn’t even see where the creek ran a few months ago.

Council has done a wonderful job with the update of the camping area. Pity some people can't read the signs. Rear parking, 48hrs and no tents!

A visit to the Kershaw Gardens is very worthwhile. It provides recreational opportunities for all people and interests. There is a good botanical collection of native plants; birdwatching; a large playground to challenge toddlers and primary school kids; quite areas meet, picnic or meditate. I really enjoyed my visit during my recent holiday. Plenty of parking. John.

Great spot to stretch your legs. The gardens are well maintained and the waterfall area is very attractive. There is even a leash free area for dogs. There is a 48 hour free camp next to these gardens.
Marianne H — Google review
Since Kershaw Gardens has been re vamped with bitumen, line markings and clear delineation between overnight camping for SC caravans/motor homes and day parking for cars, it has been a tremendous improvement. Now with space to put out an awning and with tan bark and trees planted in rows between the back to back camping spots, everyone knows where to safely park for up to 48 hours. Soo close to walk to Stockland shopping centre without having to worry about finding a park space. Well done Kershaw Gardens.

Archer Park Rail Museum, located in a heritage-listed former railway station built in 1899, is a transport museum showcasing vintage steam trams and other memorabilia. The museum features a restored Purrey Steam Tram, incorporating parts of the original tramcars that operated in Rockhampton from 1909 to 1939. Visitors can explore locomotives and rail-related relics while learning about the area's railway history.
Visited this small cosy museum on my 50th birthday. Had the fun of sitting in a steam engine driven tram that's about 100 years old! It was a short 10mins ride up and down the short track but mades me feeling excited like a kid. LOL.. the rest of the exhibits were old but worth reading about some of the station's history. Go only on Sunday if you want a ride on the tram.
Steven L — Google review
We loved our visit here soaking in how travelling by trains was done in a bygone era and all the effort needed to make it happen! This railway station was constructed in the same architecturally pleasing style as the ones in Mt Morgan, Emerald, and Longreach. There are plenty of volunteers around to answer any questions and do guided tours for groups. There is a Cafe on-site to provide refreshments if required. Allow at least an hour to enjoy this experience.
Kelvin J — Google review
Very interesting museum that celebrates the history of trains and trams in Rockhampton. There are a lot of interactive activities, including a ride on a historic tram (only on Sundays, I believe). Tour guides offer more insight to the exhibits.
Leslie P — Google review
Great staff and lots to look to at. The steam tram was well worth a look. It doesn’t go very far week days, if you want to ride the tram your better to go on the weekend.
Brian H — Google review
If like me, you luv trains and trams, then you will be in Nirvana here. ✅ An awesome museum, where you can literally get hands-on with the exhibits, climbing aboard decommissioned trains and trams, as well as related operating systems, at this beautifully presented retired station. Just fantastic and I will be back ... 🚃 🚂
Coffee T — Google review
A really well done museum explaining the history of railways in the area On Sunday they run a historical steam tramway tour in an original steam powered tram, the only one of it’s type still working worldwide There are many other interesting exhibits in the museum and it is well worth a visit

A great railway museum housed in a former railway station. Features the only operational steam tram in Australia

The volunteers have really put their all into this place. Beautiful displays and very clever soundscape on the platform with life like models. My kids loved the ride on the tram. A well spent morning in Rockhampton.

Rockhampton Botanic Gardens & ZOO

Zoos & Aquariums
Rockhampton Botanic Gardens is a serene and enduring botanical park located just south of town. It offers a variety of attractions including a zoo, a Japanese garden, and a picturesque lake surrounded by tropical and subtropical rainforest. The well-kept zoo houses koalas, wombats, dingoes, monkeys, and features a walk-through aviary. Visitors can also explore the formal Japanese garden for tranquility or enjoy the diverse plant collections throughout the gardens.
Myself, 2 daughters, son-inlaw and my 2 grandchildren (2&3) chose Rockhampton as our meeting place for Christmas this year and we took a trip to the Botanical Gardens. We all loved the ZOO section which was an absolute credit to those who run the gardens. We pretty much spent the whole day there. There are so many spots for families to wander around with wide open spaces for the toddlers, and a great playground for the kids a lake where there are ducks and turtles to amuse the children, the display of different gardens such as the beautiful Japanese garden, and the indoor nursery with ferns, elks, stags and numerous other plant species. It's just a wonderful area of Rocky that caters to a wide variety of ages. And a fantastic Cafe to also cater to the public of varying ages. Was a fantastic day.

Went for a walk after seeing the zoo. Lovely gardens (we didn’t see every section but enjoyed what we saw). The Japanese section was lovely. Next time I’d bring a picnic - plenty of spaces to unwind and there was a nice looking kids playground with undercover BBQ’s.
Hannah L — Google review
Well worth taking a stroll through the many different areas these gardens have to offer. Parking can be difficult to find, but if you drive down towards the lagoon it's not so busy there. Japanese Gardens were under maintenance, so didn't get to enjoy them. Combine these Botanical Gardens with the zoo next-door and you can have a relaxing enjoyable day!
Kelvin J — Google review
Wow the playground is incredible! It gets raked and cleaned every day so it was tidy when we arrived in the morning! All gardens were spectacular, very clean tidy and green! Lots of love and work goes into the garden and you can tell!
Emily P — Google review
Visited May 2025 The gardens are quite large. Being May there weren't many flowers in bloom making it a little visually boring . The plants around the floral clock needed a trim because you couldn't see it. I love Japanese gardens but I found this one without the wow factor. The banyan figs around the tea rooms provide lots of shade and are beautiful. Food is quite good from the tea rooms I had zucchini fritters with a small salad and my husband had the eggs benedict on a bed of bacon which he said was delicious. The blue eye honeyeaters and rainbow lorikeets jump on the tables wanting to be fed, you can almost touch them. There is a childrens playground not far from tea rooms but not close enough to keep an eye on your kids. Down at Murrays Lagoon many water birds along the banks and looking in the water from the wetland lookout are so many river turtles popping up looking for a feed. I would have liked to see information boards explaining the different gardens. The gardens are 33hectares which I googled is around 46 soccer fields (for those who need a comparison, as I did!) so plenty of room for riding a bike or a long walk. I'd like to think it is more appealing in spring. But none the less a good walk and a tea rooms a lovely place for a cuppa. Overall underwhelming.

Lovely place to have a walk/run. Plenty to see from plants, turtles down a murray lagoon. Large play park for the kids. Even coffee shop. Plenty toliets and park for all.

It feels like a long drive to get up to Mount Archer but it is breath taking once you get up there. I suggest maybe take a picnic though or at least get food and drinks before you go. The view is amazing and the little bush walk is fantastic. There is a little park with a slide and swing for the little ones. It’s just so calming up there.

Spent over 2 hours at Mt Archer, which allows you to take in the views of Rockhampton and the Fitzroy River. Fantastic views! Great Boardwalk! The road to the top is tarred. There are picnic tables and bbq’s. There are heaps of Grass Trees (black boys) Great place for a family day out! Staying around for a wonderful sunset is a must!

Excellent lookout; well worth the drive. But don't stop at the "main" area (where the Kiosk bldg is), check out the "Nurim Circuit Elevated Boardwalk" which is about 100m away. But (IMHO) do NOT do the walk to Sliepner Lookout!

Nice view but nothing else. Just for a quick walk to take pictures.

We only did a small section of the Zion hike and it was stunning. Really well maintained, beautiful views and vegetation.
Matt Z — Google review
Make sure you do the short Nurim walk which is easy as it is mostly boardwalk or similar. It leads to a fantastic unobstructed view. This is important as where you first arrive on top of Mt Archer, the view is obstructed by trees.
