Points of Interest & Landmarks
Starlights Lookout, also known as Captain Starlight Lookout, is a must-visit attraction in Longreach. Located about 55km outside of town, this rock formation offers stunning views of the surrounding area. A 20-minute hike from the bottom leads to unrivaled panoramic views of the town from the top. It's a popular spot for watching breathtaking sunsets over Outback Queensland.
A long drive on unsealed roads but worth it! If you're going for sunset the drive back can be challenging as there’s all kinds of wildlife ready to jump out into the road. Take some Snacks and drinks!
Richard L — Google review
Spectacular 360° views of the surrounding landscape located in the middle of nowhere about 50klms outside of Longreach via unsealed roads. Short moderately easy walk to the top of the rocky formation
Robert B — Google review
The drive out from Longreach is about 50km on an unsealed dirt road. The road was in really good condition. Then a short walk along a narrow dirt track to the top. With a Little Rock climb to reach the highest point. The sunset 🌅 was amazing. Beautiful panoramic views. Definitely worth the drive out. Would love ❤️ to go out there again sometime.
ALLy B — Google review
Although a last minute decision it ended up being a good detour in my day. Sept 2024, very dry. The road was dirt but pretty good, any vehicle could drive it. I’m in a Ford Transit and kept to a steady 80km/hr most of the way. So it only took 35 mins to do the 48 km. Once there, and I had it all to myself, there’s a clear and obvious rough track up this small hill, hardly a hill at 30m high. It was less than 2 minutes to the top, I really expected it to be more. Great views of the vastness of the lowlands of west Queensland, amazing stuff, remote barren scrub. I think a toilet should be provided as the area is signposted to attract tourists.
Paul S — Google review
50 km from Longreach on 45 km of unsealed road. I’m 60 and used a hiking stick to get to the top, which is a 30 metre climb. Interesting hill surrounded by plains.
David G — Google review
The view from the top is nice but there is no indication of walking trails. Getting to see wild animals ( goat, wild pig, cattle, emu) is Made it worth driving through the dirt road.
Matthana M — Google review
A nice easy drive from Longreach, it is a dirt road so beware of wash outs! But well worth the lookout after a 30 meter walk to the top.
Colby S — Google review
Amazing place where you can really get in touch with nature. I was there in the evening, so going back to Longreach it was getting dark and the kangaroos were really active. Really good experience.

Called in on the Saturday to inquire what we could do on the Sunday, as we had done the two major attractions, then was told everything else was closed on Sunday. We then went to train station when the train arrived back from a day out with a bunch of people. They had lunch and markets and said it was well worth it. Thanks to Information centre we missed out .

The Longreach Tourist Information Centre was outstanding - so friendly, helpful, and full of great local advice. Ann, in particular, was amazing. She went above and beyond to make sure we got the most out of our time in Longreach annd helped us with our itinerary. A must-stop for anyone visiting the region.

Qantas Founders Museum

Specialty Museums
The Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach, Australia, offers a captivating journey through the history of Qantas Airways, the country's national airline since 1920. Visitors can explore artifacts, aircraft, and interpretive displays that showcase the airline's evolution and engineering achievements. The museum also features multimedia exhibits and interactive activities that bring to life the stories of colorful characters associated with Qantas.
We bought ‘Business Class’ tickets for $99 each (11/8/25) which included the sound a light show the night prior to our tour. The sound and light show is fabulous and definitely worth doing. Our tour was booked for 1pm and it was good but it felt rushed. The tour started a few minutes after 1pm and we did not finish until 2.45pm. This meant that we did not get to see what we wanted to in the museum, hanger, or watch the short 8minute movie as everything closed at 3pm. We wish we had have come earlier but we didn’t know that it was an option to see the museum before the tour. They do offer pass outs for the next day but that’s no so helpful if you are leaving town. My tip is to either book an earlier tour or arrive at 12pm to experience the museum first. It’s certainly worth visiting!
Lisa W — Google review
Brilliant aircraft museum paying homage to the four giants of Australian aviation who founded QANTAS (almost destroyed by a small Irishman in recent times). This place is a must visit for any plane buffs or those simply interested in Australian modern history. The indoor museum contains a wealth of knowledge in the form of well curated physical pieces and information displays. The outdoor covered area is the piece de resistance displaying perfectly preserved aircraft spanning 60 years. This place should be on the bucket list of anyone who calls themselves Australian. Simply magnificent.
Jeff A — Google review
We did the Premium Economy tour for our family of 6. It was quite expensive, however the lady at the desk gave us a nice discount when we asked. The museum itself is well set out with unique displays and interactive flying simulators for young and old. We enjoyed the tour through the old hanger and found the stories to be quite entertaining and informative. Our tour guide did a great job sharing his knowledge with such a big group and fighting against the wind! We enjoyed walking through the various aircrafts and seeing the progression over time. Again our guide was very informative and knowledgeable with each plane. Our final highlight was walking through the 747, bringing back nostalgic memories for us adults. The kids were in awe of the size of it. We were a little surprised at how much it had aged on the inside.
Trundlewithus — Google review
The Captain’s Tour was absolutely fabulous—an amazing experience from start to finish! Our guide, John, was outstanding: so knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely kind. His passion and expertise made the entire 4-hour tour fly by without a single dull moment. The highlight was walking on the wing of a jumbo jet—an unforgettable experience! Thanks to John’s guidance and enthusiasm, this was a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable tour.
Susanne K — Google review
This experience was amazing. We got the first class tickets which included the airpark tour, wing walk and entrance to the museum for the whole day. The airpark was amazing, our guide Ryan was so passionate and funny which made the tour even better. Learning about each plane and the history behind it was one of the highlights of the whole trip. The wing walk tour was so cool. Going out on the wing and seeing the park from above is an eye opening experience. The light show was not included in this ticket so we bought the ticket on the day. The show was incredible and engaging. I would recommend booking, but we were lucky because not many people were watching that night so we just rocked up and were able to watch it. The museum was so interesting as well, there are interactive activities that were so fun and there was so much to learn about. The gift shop was also reasonably priced. Overall such a great experience that I will never forget.
Stella B — Google review
Well worth a visit. We had the business class experience. Our guide Max was great and a mine of useful, interesting information. Likewise John taking us through the evening light show. WOW. Qantas should be funding this whole operation because the benefits to the airline roll out. Highly recommended.
Graham S — Google review
Surprisingly fun. I enjoyed it more than I expected, and our tour guide John was great. A lot of interactive displays so you can try flying in a semi-simulator.
Nim C — Google review
Great museum. Brilliant guide and tour through planes. Souvenirs very ordinary. 10% Sunday surcharge on all goods and at the Cafe. Cafe closes much earlier than the complex.

The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame & Outback Heritage Centre, which opened in 1988 and was inaugurated by the Queen, is a state-of-the-art museum celebrating the pioneers of European settlement in Australia's vast interior. The museum features five galleries showcasing outback heritage, including Indigenous stockmen and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Good insight into some of our Pioneers. This is a 'go your own' tour with an iPod and headphones provided. Starts with a 20min movie that provided good, relevant information. We also watched the live show that tells a story with bush poetry and whip cracking.
Paul G — Google review
Fabulous, brilliant. Moving cinema, amazing audio guidedmuseum, outstanding live show, in season. Fantastic selection of souvenirs and good Cafe. Allow 4 to 5 hours for complete package.
Lesley N — Google review
We absolutely loved our time at the Stockman's hall of fame. The live show was very well done with lots of humour, beautifully recited poetry, and a lot of great insights. The final part of the show was a touching tribute to the horses left behind after the war and the poor Stockmen who had to walk away without their mate. This was very moving and a part of history we were unaware of. Despite being school holidays, we had the cinema room virtually all to ourselves as everyone had gone to the earlier session. Again, this was very informative and shared interesting parts of history. The museum itself is extremely well laid out. Our 4 kids ranging from 6 - 15 years really enjoyed doing the treasure hunt through the museum. This kept them engaged for almost 2 hours, allowing us adults to explore at our own pace. The staff were very friendly and happy to have a chat about various things. You can tell they have a heart for their town and it's history, which is very special.

What a great experience, Well worth taking your time and enjoy the museum, The short film prior to the show was very informative , The show itself is brilliant Stu and Kelly do a great job with humour and the facts making for an interesting time , MUST SEE ,

Loved the experience, digital technology was excellent to interact with. All the individual sound tracks just made you feel a real part of the stories told. Highly recommend and allow a few hours at least to take it all in.
Andrew D — Google review
Went in October so no shows. Was great though because it wasn't crowded at all. Excellent self paced tours with an ipod and earphones. Made a nice balance of reading and listening.
Tanya B — Google review
Excellent facility to learn about the drovers and pioneers of inland Australia that centres around the museum. The highlight however was the live stockman show that was both entertaining and informative. Don’t be surprised to be brought to tears towards the end of the very moving show. Entry is somewhat excessive, but justifiable as a once.
Peter P — Google review
The Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame is a must see when you are visiting Longreach. I loved the collection of artefacts and all the Australian history. The demonstration of the live Outback Stockmans show was terrific . Stew and Kel did an amazing job. You can tell from the presentation that they are very passionate about the outback from the past to present days. The museum was very interactive and very kid friendly. All the staff were amazing and helpful. You will need about 3-4 hrs to take it all in. Great day for the whole family. I would definitely book online before going. There is also a cafe for refreshments that was reasonably priced.

Camden Park Station

Camden Park Station is a captivating destination that immerses you in the heart of Australia's outback. Here, you'll have the chance to meet Outback Dan and his family as they welcome you to their expansive 18,000-acre working sheep and cattle station. The experience begins with a stroll through the historical homestead gardens, shearing shed, and cattle yards before indulging in a delightful smoko break.
Outback Dan is the best tour guide we have ever experienced, his family & homestead are absolutely delightful. Enjoying a homemade dinner in their shearing shed at sunset is a must DO! Brooke is a great chef and wife of the funtabulous Outback Dan. Loved this experience. Camp area looks epic too for the outback red org Ange magical sunsets
Stacey D — Google review
We booked a hipcamp farm stay under the big hay shed, it was full with 7 vans on the first night very pleasant chatting with other campers, a nice small group. Very quiet after most of them left the next morning. Lots of land to walk or ride your bike around. Price includes power and they now have bathroom facilities with flushing toilets & showers.
Ann G — Google review
Top place to stay. Not fancy but definitely worth it for the quiet and open paddock outlook
Nathan A — Google review
The marketing pictures and the description of the camp and facilities are not what is advertised. The camping location is one section of the front paddock, the camp is a Hay Shed and your site in the Hay Shed at best is 2 metres wide x 8 metres long and your camping neighbour is a meter away, and there’s one toilet. There are MUCH better camp sites in Ilfracombe and Longreach!
Kristy S — Google review
In September 2021, we drove to Longreach and opted to do a five day Tour with Outback Aussie Tours. Visiting Camden Park and meeting the Walker family, was the highlight for me. Outback Dan boarded our small bus as we entered the property and we drove to ‘the hill’ where Outback Dan’s Mum had set up drinks for us as we watched the sunset. Along the way Dan described various aspects of the property and we saw Mum pig with several piglets. He also offered us a job cleaning his 55,000 solar panels. 😀 We were made to feel very much a part of this lovely family who like others in the area, have suffered the effects of a 10 yr drought. It’s a tough life but they have diversified to keep the property going. It has been in the family for five generations. Sadly they had been forced to sell another property. After sunset we moved to the Shearing Shed where Brooke (Outback Dan’s wife) had prepared an amazing meal for us. White tablecloths, chandeliers and all. After dinner Dan took us outside for some stargazing and an opportunity to try whip cracking. The Walker family are very special and we were all made to feel part of their lives. It was a very memorable evening. Just wishing we could get back there again soon. Highly recommended.
Jill G — Google review
What a wonderful supplier to work with! Outback Dan and his amazing family are always so willing and welcoming to all of our guests who visit Longreach. The station tour is so informative and really gives an amazing insight into life on the land. The tour is complimented by the delicious home cooked meal that is provided. A visit to Camden Park Station is a must when visiting Longreach!
Fun T — Google review
The Walker family (the owners) give you the tour. They tell you about their lives and history of the place. Great country hospitality! Very nice historic home, with a large living room. Queen Elizabeth II visited this home. (I say that to show the importance of the family and the home at that time, I think it was around 1970, not celebrity adulation for the Queen.) One of my favourite activities in Longreach.
Frank — Google review
Fantastic morning out! Outback Dan was brilliant, kept us entertained and interested the entire time. Lovely hospitality from his parents as well who shared stories and tales. Morning tea was delicious!! And a special shout out to our driver, MJ! Excellent day out!

Ilfracombe Machinery and Heritage Museum

I stopped by last night to stretch the legs and was so impressed I came back again in the daylight for a better view. I’m blown away with what has been achieved here, reminded me of the fine work done in Croydon. Pride in the town and its heritage but also with an eye on the future. I’m so pleased that money was spent on a concrete path as the prickles are terrible, ouch! There are plenty of bins, seating and public toilets. Happy to donate!
Paul S — Google review
The 'Machinery Mile' is fascinating. It contains a beautiful collection of various machinery used throughout the district since the early 20th century. The machines are donated and well cared for by local volunteers. As a machinery fanatic, I spent no less than two hours combing through and photographing the collection. As it is on the main road through Ilfracombe you cannot miss it! Parking is plentiful, even for caravans. I'd love to add more photos, but the upload would take days!!
BJ P — Google review
Good place to spot by and stretch your legs on your long journey across out back Queensland. Loads of interesting machineries on display.
Lerong L — Google review
Great collection of old machinery spread out along the highway. Well worth stopping in for a look
Nicholas M — Google review
I was expecting this to be a boring display but holy smokes it’s interesting and fun and you can still see some working fan blades on the machines. Thoughtful benches and picnic tables throughout the short walk and a pub nearby if you need a beer to steady you after witnessing the glory of the machines.
R C — Google review
It's free to visit and makes for a good rest stop. Selection of machinery, old gun display including WWII weapons, bottle collection and other assortment of items. When we visited we were the only ones there. The most interesting machines there were the converted WWII tanks which were modified for earthmoving.

Fabulous museum, so much information so allow plenty of time to make the most of it. I only had an hour and although I saw nearly everything, it was rushed. Excellent displays, well set out.

The Australian Workers Heritage Centre which is the only national attraction dedicated to celebrating the extraordinary legacy of working Australians. The Centre is spread across over two hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding a tranquil billabong, which presents exhibits capturing the spirit our nation's workers. Including the Story of the Great Shearer’s Strike 1891, 'Working Women' Project, a 'One Teacher School', 'Working for Health' exhibition, 'Kunwarara' Railway Station and the original Australian Workers Union Hall plus the original Celebrations Theatre from the Bicentennial Tour. Add this to your adventure list, you won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic history of workers struggles beginning with 1891 shearers' strike Tree of knowledge nearby and its progeny in the centre
Dianne H — Google review
Great extensive exhibition of all things Union! So good to learn and experience. So well done.
Rendle W — Google review
Really worth the 2.5 hrs spent here! You walk through early century original train carriages, police station, school buildings furnished with all the early school slates and memorabilia of the era. Ots is a really large group of buildings surrounding a shady lake setting with seating. Watch video of people and stories back in time of the shearing strike and origins of the labour party. A new entry to the Heritage Museum is just about finished in the main street.
Doug N — Google review
An excellent museum/heritage centre with great exhibits illustrating various aspects of work and the development of trade unions and the labour movement in Qld and Australia, including the Shearer's strike of 1891. A much more down to earth and interesting centre than the nearby and much hyped Stockman's Hall of Fame in Longreach.

What a wonderful experience, we were surprised by what was inside from the billabong and gardens to the buildings to the trains the Aust Heritage museum is more than a museum, it's our history. Well worth the visit we wish we had.more time. Sept 25

This would have to be the best Australian heritage centre I have ever visited, the amount of history held here from all over Queensland and Australia is astronomical, from local history to major Australian history, was so much fun for the family, and even spotted my wife in the museum, kids had alot of fun and even has a playground for them, the staff are so lovely and made the tour so pleasurable. The Tree of Knowledge is a $5-million contemporary art installation located outside a train station. It is an upside-down milk crate-shaped structure that looks stunning at night when the wooden wind chimes allow dappled light to filter through. The tree itself is a preserved version of the original eucalyptus where striking shearers met during the 1891 strike.
So sad someone poisoned the original tree but well preserved and enhanced especially beautiful at night. Honours the shearers that met in 1891 to strike when denied fair wages and conditions
Dianne H — Google review
Well done Barcaldine amazing how the tree of knowledge is displayed and what a nice town clean friendly people was very surprised how great this little town is
Stephen — Google review
A nice bit of QLD and Australian history. Unfortunately it currently has fences around it. No explanation of why. Still you can get a feel and perhaps more importantly, hear the haunting sounds of the timber wind chimes.

Interesting for history and engineering buffs. Very welcoming and such a comprehensive tour.
Nic ( — Google review
One of the best attractions I have visited in my outback travels. Maybe not as slick in presentation as some, but this Woolscour has been lovingly restored and maintained such that little imagination is required to feel the experience of early 1900's. That the machinery worked at the throw of a switch blew my mind. Our guide, Jeff, had worked there and was authentic and entertaining. Great tour.
Warren ( — Google review
Really great, everyone should do this. Has a few times a day they do tours, great tour guide
Haras Y — Google review
A very interesting and informative tour of such an important part of history. The guide, Scottie, is an incredible source of knowledge and conveys it so engagingly to the visitors. Highly recommend.

Fabulous enlightenment that wool isn't just about the shearers. So much more to getting wool to the retailer that we never considered. Well set out, manicured green lawns. Machinery great in working order to give you appreciation of what was needed over 100 years ago and still runs. Our guide was very knowledgeable.

A very worthwhile tour. Amazing to see the machinery still working as it did back in the day. Do check the tour times.

We visited and thoroughly enjoyed our three days break on our way to Darwin so had to stay again on our way south. An entertaining free guided tour, check with the Information Centre for details, and the historic Woolscour tour were really good, a lovely township with gold coin donation camping along the bore fed creek. Yep, had a good feed of yabbies there.
William D — Google review
Called into the visitors centre at 4.55om. You would think most would be getting ready to go home but could not be further from the truth. Paid for the donation camping ground ($10/night) got told where all the facilities were and made suggestions on things to see. All with a smile and a laugh. Very impressive.
Deborah L — Google review
Alison was very friendly and helpful. Told us about the woolscour and the amazing artesian pool.

The day I popped in I couldn't get much assistance with locating good birding spots. There are lots of twitchers out there and in most places one can access a bird list as well as locations to spot birds. I did find the local bird hide, which has been exceptionally well constructed, but it is a very poor location.

Very helpful staff, all questions answered

Enjoyed reading about the black stump & sightseeing around Blackall. Kids learning the term "beyond the black stump"
Anita H — Google review
Nice piece of Australian history signed to give information well done Blackall friendly town also
Stephen — Google review
It is just a simple stump of wood in town with historical significance. It is right on the street, free viewing.
Anabel P — Google review
Small replacement of a historical landmark. There was not much to do around nor a significant reason to stop. The actual location itself is easy to miss, and could use some sort of place-setting to make the atraction more apparent. There is some singing from the town, however it is in fact easy to miss. Still recommend a stop if you're passing by.
Jaiden P — Google review
That makes it "back o bourke" and beyond the black stump in a week. Gotta love outback travelling
Nicholas M — Google review
Interesting info, now I know where the saying about the Black stump came from.
Cherie C — Google review
For a only a small detour (one block behind the school) off the highway, you can stop by and see 'The Black Stump' - an imaginary point beyond which the country is considered remote. Tell your friends that you've travelled beyond The Black Stump! A great distance indeed.

Amazing, one of a kind place. More like a museum for me rather than a shop since the Teddies cost a small fortune. But business is clearly booming - there was a small queue of people buying one or more items & the phone was ringing pretty much nonstop with customers placing orders over the phone. It is an interesting place to visit. The Teddies are adorable, coming in all sizes and colours. Tambo famous Teddies are handmade from wool and perfect and unique gift. There is another shop in Toowoomba, but Tambo is an original shop with a workshop on-site. If in Tambo do not miss a chance to visit it.

As always I am ever impressed with the teddies from Tambo Teddies. The only problem I have is they're all so darn beaut!! So far I've managed to curb myself from getting a massive collection of your wonderful bears. I do not know how successful i will be at stopping myself. Well Done Tambo Teddies. You're all such a great team. THANK YOU!! For sharing the Love of Teddy Bears!!!!!

Believe what you read people! Tambo Teddies and the people behind them are super special. Thank you! A solid 5 stars from me.

I'm so glad I picked up a Tambo Teddy when I went through this town. I spent a good hour in this little town on my way to Longreach. I know these Teddies can be purchased online, but if you can go to Tambo and buy one from the shop, you won’t be disappointed.

Hotel Corones Charleville is a charming establishment with an informal bar featuring stained-glass windows and a restaurant. The hotel, listed on the Queensland Heritage Register, boasts elegant lounges, a spacious dining area, and modern accommodation rooms equipped with their own bathrooms. Additionally, the hotel features a private bar for exclusive service and a public bar that exudes modern luxury.
Yes , everything went well, lovely barmaids from Dublin, spending some time in country to satisfy visa requirements to travel and work elsewhere. The mixed grill meal was a kicker. See the 136 kg cod caught in 1920, the plaque next to the head says it took 2 days to haul it in.
Tom C — Google review
I rarely leave negative reviews, but unfortunately this the worst restaurant experience ever it was far below expectations. From the start, service was slow and inattentive — we waited nearly 20 minutes just to place our order, and getting the staff’s attention felt like an uphill battle throughout the night. The food was underwhelming. I ordered a rib fillet steak which arrived lukewarm and lacked flavor. The presentation was sloppy, and it seemed like little care went into preparing the other meals. Others at the table had similar complaints — either their food was overcooked, cold, or simply blan or did not come out. For the prices being charged, I expected much better quality. The ambiance also left much to be desired. The restaurant was uncomfortably quite and the seating felt cramped. Not exactly the relaxing evening I had hoped for. To be fair, the drinks were decent, and one of the servers was apologetic, but it wasn’t enough to salvage the experience. Sadly, I won’t be returning — there are too many better options in the area.
Fred B — Google review
Lovely old building with history, the main bar is the biggest I’ve ever seen in a pub. The young lady working the bar was great and cheerful. We ordered lunch and ate out in the beer garden that had newish outdoor tables and seating. The meals were well priced however not quite satisfactory for me as my rissoles were on the dry side but tasty all the same. Our group of 4 were very happy we stopped in for a feed and a few ales.
Dave — Google review
Due to last minute changes, had to book a heritage room. Which could be nice if you are into that kind of thing. However, the tv didn't work and nor did the bathroom night. No bedside light, only the main room light. The ensuite needs some love. Also, expect to be woken up early, especially if John is staying. BANG BANG John! BANG BANG John are you awake? BANG At 4:45am. Well, we all are now.
Lee M — Google review
Fantastic grand old pub. Built in 1929 by Harry Cornes, a Greek imigrant who showed up in Sydney with a suitcase and no English, it's been restored yo as close yo original as they can get and is heritage listed. Largest bar top in the southern hemisphere... since the one Muldura was divided up, and great friendly service. They have a restaurant but it only opens through autumn, winter and spring, so is currently closed. You can book a tour to see around and here about the history of the pub, seeing some rooms that are locked to everyone except those on the tour. It's well worthwhile doing. This pub was the place to stay in the West, and it's hosted PM'S m, Royalty and celebs over it's history. It's just a shame the ball room hass been turned into a bottlemart!! Would recommend popping in for a drink and look around.
David W — Google review
Stopped in for a cold one and a counter meal after a long couple of days on the road.beer was ice cold meal was a good country pub feed and staff friendly. Amazing bar and architecture worth a look at this grand old place must of been absolutely incredible in its day.
Scott G — Google review
Shocking experience. As a past Charleville resident and having to attend a family funeral we chose to book a number of rooms 7 days before our arrival online. We We were immediately emailed demanding payment upfront as they had tried to put through the full amount on the nominated credit card with the booking. The online booking terms clearly stated payment on arrival. I keep a specific card for work travel purposes and transfer funds as required to avoid this sort of unscrupulous behaviour. When I rang to ask why they were attempting to bill the entire amount contrary to the online terms I was told to pay up as that is their new policy or they would cancel our booking. When I said I was not happy for them to bill me they hung up. Very sad state of affairs for what once was an amazing hotel.
Felicity W — Google review
The hotel was unwillingly to give us a refund due to us not physically having the means to travel all the way around through inland New South Wales via Broken Hill from our current destination to Birdsville in time to keep our booking We were south at Marree and both Oodnadatta and Strezlecki track are now closed. Tried calling a number of times beforehand with no answer or coverage in remote Australia. Trying to support inland local business and they make decisions like this (mind you - other businesses in South Australia have been most accommodating).

Discover the Save The Bilby Fund at the National Parks Research Station, where seasonal tours offer a chance to meet these unique marsupials. Visitors highly recommend this experience, praising the passionate guides and their informative presentations on the plight of the Bilby. Despite not meeting tour requirements, guests still enjoyed an up-close look at these fascinating creatures and appreciated the opportunity to support conservation efforts through donations and purchases of Bilby products.
The team here are doing a fantastic job of helping to rebuild the number of Bilby's in this area. It's amazing to hear how much wildlife in Australia is now extinct compared to the rest of the world. The team here are passionate, dedicated and so knowledgeable. Highly recommend visiting this centre when visiting Charleville. One hour guided tour with history of the Bilby, conservation efforts and then time viewing some bilbies. Very interesting, informative, and the viewing was fabulous. May be the only time I get to see bilbies. Highly recommend to anyone travelling through Charleville, QLD.

Highly recommend this experience and supporting this cause. A really informative and interesting presentation on the plight of the Bilby followed by an opportunity to view them in their nocturnal environment. The presenter we had was so passionate, energetic and engaging, it was hard not to fall in love with these unique and threatened little marsupials. A great experience and a must do if in Charleville.
Tim W — Google review
The presenter had fantastic energy, and gave a detailed and fun information presentation. Then we split into two groups half watching a video or shopping, and half seeing the Bilbies for 10-15minutes. Then we swapped. That kept numbers in the viewing room low which meant everyone got a great view.

We did the tag along tour with guide, Bill. Thoroughly recommend this if you're staying in Charleville. You will need your own car ( no need for 4wd) as you follow the tour guide around. There are 7 areas that you go to. You get out and listen to the importance of the site and what was there during the time the US forces were stationed there. Amazing to know 2500 US personnel lived and worked on the base. I won't give away the reason it was a secret base, you can find out for yourself! Thanks Bill, your knowledge and willingness to share it was fantastic!

The value and the museum and the tour great value. To an ex soldier with an interest in military history, this was eye opening. I had no idea how much a significant role Charleville played during WW2. The Charleville Cosmos Centre offers an extraordinary experience for visitors, featuring evening stargazing sessions with powerful telescopes and captivating astronomy exhibits. The center showcases space debris that has fallen onto Charleville and the newly opened Astro Dome, which presents immersive experiences such as Beyond the Sun and Birth of Planet Earth. Located in a region with minimal wet weather patterns, the observatory provides uninterrupted views of the crystal-clear night sky, offering a glimpse into the mysteries of the universe through its powerful telescope.
We were impressed with this place. The friendly staff, the information and the extra activities we can do here were fantastic. We decided to come back for the big telescope viewing and so glad we did. Les and Lara were fantastic. Les is exceptionally knowledgeable in all things astronomy. He answered all questions with confidence and showed us so much about the sky that we had never even thought of! We will def be back as there is so much more to see at various times of the year!
Wendy — Google review
Very big telescopes to look at the night sky and see galaxies and stars in the Milky Way. Quite an informative session. It was rather cold outside so need to be prepared and it is not suitable for the vision challenged, e.g. older people. Also, I think it was a bit too expensive for what we got out of it.
Anne R — Google review
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Lots of information, but unfortunately the interactive displays were being upgraded. If you wish to do the paid tours, I would suggest you book ahead.
Jilly B — Google review
Cosmos Centre is a good place to visit. It is an interesting building with lots of displays, touristy knick knacks (including frozen ice cream!) and friendly staff. We saw two 30 minute movie presentations in the impressive Planetarium - Oasis in Space and Forward to the Moon - that were very informative, but the highlight was the night stargazing. It was cold, but the sky was clear and there was a wonderful view of many stars that you can't see when you live in or near the city. The use of the telescope showed various sights, the moon, Mars, the jewel box and more. The chief host, Wade, was full of facts and figures with a friendly manner and he was ably supported by a team that operated the four telescopes. We all took turns to see the sights. All three events were well worth the moderate price and the stargazing was very good and fun. Just take your coat during the winter months!

Came all the way out to Charleville just for this and wow what an awesome experience! Staff are so knowledgeable and friendly, especially our telescope operator Lara. Absolutely loved it! Highly recommend to anyone coming through Queensland.

We had a wonderful visit to the Cosmos Centre. We did the Sun Viewing in the afternoon. Truely staggering to be looking at the sun, seeing sun spots and flares from the surface and not having your eyeballs fried. Also did the Outback Stargazing tour. Great views of different stars and star clusters and the Moon. Unfortunately the Moon was pretty bright, so not a lot of clear Milky Way viewing, but that's the night sky for you! The staff were super helpful and keen to share their love of astronomy. Big thanks to Ash and the team, and to Alex. I'd love to return on a moonless night to check out the Premium Stargazing, as well as the Planetarium shows.

Great little national park with signs on many different vegetation types I have seen many of the different types of trees and plants but didn't know their names. Well worth the short trip- some good dirt.

Awesome Visitor Information Centre with fantastic, knowledgeable staff, Thanks Karen. The Museum and history section is well worth the entry price.

The Information Centre is found in the centre of town next to the Big Cunnamulla Fella. The lady at the Information Centre was friendly and informative. She even phoned Bowra Sanctuary for us who confirmed that the road was still closed due to the floods. It is nicely decorated inside and outside is many placards of ladies and red shoes reminding us of women that experience violence and how it is not acceptable in this day and age.

Such an interesting place connected to the museum. The staff were so helpful with historic info and up to date road conditions. Thank you

Great visitor information centre, attached is the museum and time tunnel. A great look back in time, with interactive boots and a video on the artesian water. Worth a look.

At back of visitors centre is the Artesian time tunnel $10 a person.very good 😊

Really great little info centre. Paid for the museum and art gallery and was impressed with the creative way of using the Artesian Time Tunnel. Lots of old stuff in the museum, and the art gallery of road signs was really interesting. Use the torches to check them out for a different look!! Also a great collection of old bottles. Worth seeing.

Excellent information centre. Quality souvenirs and local items to purchase. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. In the same building, they have an excellent museum for a moderate fee. There are some fun attractions inside and a lot of historical vintage artefacts, we enjoyed the 30-minute movie about the artesian water basin that serves the outback.

Well presented information centre. Lots of items to purchase and information. Young staff need to learn to arrive earlier than 10.05am on a Sunday to open especially when required to complete cash reconciliation and open museum area.

This Station was once the terminus for the western line. It will never see a train again after the Angelalla Creek Bridge Explosion. a real shame, really.

This is a great little botanic garden like walk. Took us about 40 mins stopping to look, take photos and using the QR code to reference back the tree markers. The trail is well formed and being dirt was in pretty good condition and pretty accessible for the most part.

A beautiful, self-guided, interpretive bush-walk. Tracks are well-maintained and mowed. There is a problem with weed infestation, that has to be addressed before the reserve passes the point of no return. The lagoon precinct was our favourite part of our walk, with a beautiful Red-backed Kingfisher sunning itself in a dead tree-branch beside the water. Thank You, Cunnamulla!

A beautiful hidden gem in Cunnamulla. We enjoyed a lovely leisurely stroll through the various ecosystems, saw lots of bird life and a shy turtle that popped its head up as we walked by. Well done Cunnamulla, this is a lovely spot.

Beautiful tranquil gardens with lots of birdlife and a flat easy walk. Had a very pleasant hour or so here.

Great little place. A fair amount of effort has gone into it. The town should be commended. Lucky enough to see several bird species. Got a great photo of a variegated wren. Very peaceful.

Stopped here to stretch and have a cup of tea, a great place to break the journey. Plantings attract lots of birds. Far enough off the road to be quiet and safe. There should be more places like this.

Bradley is passionate, knowledgeable and has a powerful presence that makes people want to listen and learn from him. The art, effort and care that has gone into creating this museum to continue the knowledge tranferrance from elder to younger should not be missed. These stories are important. May we learn from the past so we can hopefully do better now and in the future. Thank you for this gift of knowledge and care.

Bradley was great! The tour was really good. Great place to visit and enjoy.

We enjoyed an absolutely brilliant tour by Bradley this afternoon. What an incredible tour through the Brewarrina Aboriginal Cultural Museum and explanation of the fish traps. So enlightening and sobering to learn local history and the travesties of the past. If you are anywhere close to Brewarrina don’t miss a tour, which run four times each day. Check their website for details.

What a find! We stoped to have lunch and asked if we could sit at their tables outside the Museum. Bradley introduced Himself and offered to give us a tour and what a tour of the museum it was so informative and so worth it! If you have time stop and check it out!

Well worth a visit. Very informative tour guide. Adds to a broader understanding of the traps and Aboriginal connection to the area.

For such an important cultural landmark, the museum sadly does not live up to its potential in 2021. This globally significant site offers so many important stories and an immersive experience for locals and tourists, but the way it is currently managed is an embarrassment. We visited as a large family group at midday on Saturday of the June Long Weekend, only to be informed that we were fortunate to visit ad hoc, only because there was an interstate bus tour group booked for 1pm which we could join. For perspective: this was the big weekend when the annual "Big Fish" competition occurs and "nearby" Longreach is booked out with grey nomads and winter travellers - i.e. "the busiest weekend of the year". It seemed like the staff were antagonistic because they were forced to work on a long weekend, or perhaps it was because they had to deal with 40 customers paying $20 cash each to visit. Our local Indigenous relatives and farmer friends informed us that opening hours were inconsistent to non-existent - apparently it is closed more often than not despite Google informing us that it's open 9-5 Mon-Sat. This is simply not good enough, especially for a struggling outback community in a fractured tourism market. Guide Bradley was extremely knowledgable and entertaining despite his somewhat confrontational manner. I'm not sure which tourism qualifications teach guides to denigrate their customers during a tour, to constantly inform customers how incorrect Google is, or to bristle at reasonable questions, but that was our experience and it added to the fun. Bradley's in-depth knowledge and personality deserved a better forum than one where 80% of the lighting is unserviceable, where displays were not functional, and where he had to resort to demonstrating important cultural information on his small mobile phone screen, in poor light to 40 people crammed into a stuffy space. In fairness, Bradley did inform us that a video presentation renovation was coming soon. Shame it wasn't available for the busiest weekend of the year. Despite these negative comments the displays and presentations offered much and we were glad to visit. The highlight was Bradley's demonstration of the Fish Trap workings from high on the river bank (even despite the high river level). Although this could be witnessed as a self-guided tour for free, Bradley's entertaining descriptions were very well received. After this demo the group was left to drift off while the gates were hurriedly closed, rather than receive a rousing conclusion or a culturally aware send off. Perhaps the staff had a fish to catch. If the Culture Museum is to flourish, I strongly believe that they must offer a more professional service for $20 cash (no EFTPOS). Perhaps a small certificate, souvenir local soap, or free tea and damper would provide a more fitting memento to visitors that have travelled hundreds if not thousands of km to visit. I read that the museum was funded by government and expect that is still the case, so it would be fair to expect that $800 cash takings might go towards fixing the lights (at the very least). Some of the artwork and artefacts were fantastic but were mostly difficult to see in the dark. Overall my family were underwhelmed, while we overheard others from the bus group voicing similar criticisms of the facility and attitude of the staff. I strongly suspect other reviewers here and on Trip Advisor are being too polite. I look forward to visiting again and hope to see some improvements in the near future.

Fantastic experience learning about the historic fish traps & a bit of Aboriginal history. I first learned about this place from the book Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe. Bradley 3 did a great job & the other staff were lovely too. If you want to learn about the oldest culture in the world, this is a good start.
TrishF — Google review
Come to this place, seriously. The tour teaches the Old Ways, answering for me some personal questions. The tour guide teaches about the ancient culture and the museum contains many cultural artefacts. Of great significance are the fish traps in the river and I could picture people of old hanging out and catching fish. Beautiful commentary, imagine.. if you knew how exactly to land a particular fish with your bare hands. It’s simple when you know how! ‘We don’t own the land, we belong to it And we share it.’

The young woman working in the centre was so lovely and helpful. She gave us information on the area, but also gave us an insight into the towns history and current situation. Learning about our outback towns is interesting and important. We really enjoyed our visit to the centre, made so enjoyable by the staff.
