Nestled in the historic Carlton area just north of Melbourne's CBD, the expansive 70,000-square-meter Melbourne Museum offers a deep dive into the city's rich history and diverse culture. With eight galleries spread across six floors, visitors can explore Aboriginal artifacts at the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, encounter Australia's unique wildlife including a massive blue whale skeleton and legendary racehorse Phar Lap's preserved body, and take guided tours to uncover hidden stories of Melbourne.
We booked our tickets online which helped us skip the queue. Reached around 10 am when it was still quiet, though it did get busier as the day went on. My son is very curious, and he thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the museum. The Dinosaur section was definitely a major highlight for him. The Rainforest section was another favourite - walking among real flora and trees inside a museum felt amazing! Other sections like bugs & insects, soils, and the Ice Age were equally fascinating. We spent about 4–5 hours exploring everything at a relaxed pace. We had lunch at the Market Café inside the museum, which was quite convenient. Afterward, we enjoyed some time at the beautiful Carlton Gardens just outside - a perfect way to wrap up the visit. Overall, a fantastic experience for both kids and adults. Highly recommend spending half a day here!

Melbourne Museum is an absolute gem! We visited after lunch with my son, and even in just a few hours, we had an incredible time. This is a place where kids (and adults!) can learn so much in a fun and engaging way — you could easily spend a full day exploring. The dinosaur exhibition was a highlight for us, packed with fascinating displays and information that really capture children’s curiosity. We also loved the insect area, which was both educational and surprisingly fun to explore. Everything is well-presented, interactive, and perfect for sparking young minds. Adults tickets are $15, and kids go free, making it fantastic value for families. I recommend booking online to avoid the queues. We’ll definitely be back for a full-day visit next time!

An awesome experience! The Star Wars Lego exhibition was super easy to access and really simple to navigate. There are plenty of activities throughout, for both kids and adult fans. It’s a great outing for families as well as die-hard Star Wars and LEGO fans. The staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend checking it out!

Pretty cool place tbh. The Melbourne Museum is huge — like, you could easily get lost in there. Loved the dinosaur section and the First Peoples exhibit, super interesting and well done. There’s also a kids area that looked fun even if you’re not a kid lol. Some parts felt a bit dated though, and a few displays could use more interactive stuff or better lighting. But overall, it’s a chill spot to spend a few hours and learn a bunch of random cool things. Would def recommend if you’ve got some free time in Melbourne.

I took my granddaughter to the Halloween at the Museum on the afternoon of Oct31st. We came a little early so we had to wait to enter. It was such an exciting event for my granddaughter…and for me. Kids in costume as well as the adults. The activities for the kids were great and we enjoyed looking at the gallery in the dark. It was fantastic. Parking in the basement was handy. Staff were friendly but not quite knowledgeable of the wheres and whats that night. Still, I will recommend this museum and this particular event. Its a must see and must attend!
Shirley W — Google review
Very engaging museum! •it was a quick visit but very interesting •easy to read information •clean, well-organized areas and toilets •an amazing experience esp for dinosaur lovers! They also have a shop.

We had the best experience at the museum. We went there when there was the Lego Exhibition on Star Wars - the creation were insanely good! There was also a rainforest in the museum - we went in to have a look. We saw the T-Rex show at the iMax theatre too. We had so, so much fun. Absolutely recommend a visit - more than worth the day and money.

This review is only about current special exhibition: Treasures of the Viking Age -The Galloway Hoard. The Galloway Hoard discovered in 2014 had 100 items, a small but very significant find. However, what is exhibited here is a lot less, museum blurb states about 90 pieces but it does look significantly less. The items are spread out in sections - entrances like Viking doorways & "padded" with massive graphics via video & static projections, albeit immersively displayed & easy to digest. The superstars of the Hoard - the small silver vessel with lid, the tiny crystal jar covered with elaborate goldwork & one more item - are all 3D-printed replicas. The reason - too fragile to be transported. I really liked the presentation & background on how the hoards were buried, the trade & marauding routes traversed by Viking warlords that enabled procurement of precious metals from far away lands along the Silk Route. But disingenuous inclusion of other discoveries is not necessary. I would rather hear more about why hoarding was so prevalent 1000 years ago or did I miss this bit? There is enough original intricate pieces that makes this exhibition worthwhile - artefacts like the Silver Cross with the fine spiral chain, intricate armbands (make great copies for olde fashion wrist watches!) & the elaborate brooches. But, but (& the reason for my 3 star review) - Where are the replicas of Vikings - both men & women, depicting how these wonderful ancient antiquities were adorned/worn? This would have really showcased the the wealth of the warlords & their treasured heirlooms..✨️✨️

Fed Square, also known as Federation Square, is a vibrant and dynamic public plaza in Melbourne. It features abstract buildings, restaurants, museums, and arts venues. The plaza's unique design includes an undulating forecourt paved with hand-laid cobblestones from the Kimberley region in Western Australia. Fed Square has quickly become one of the city's top attractions since its inauguration in 2002.
Perfect Chill Spot in the Heart of the City Federation Square is an absolutely amazing place to just sit back and take in the city vibes. The huge screen is perfect for watching live events, and there’s always a great crowd gathered around. The cool breeze, the open space, and the stunning city lights make it an unreal experience. So many people can sit here at once, and it still feels spacious. Whether you’re just relaxing, people-watching, or soaking in the buzzing energy of the city, Fed Square is the place to be. The traffic around it is wild, but that just adds to the energy of the spot. Definitely one of the best chill spaces in Melbourne!

Big open place in the city. Lots of people and things to see. Can visit art galleries, museums, or sit at cafes. Modern buildings look cool. Good spot to walk around and take photos.
Nesh K — Google review
This is a arts & culture plaza situated across from street from St. Paul's Cathedral and the historic Flinders Station at the intersection of Flinders and Swanston Streets in the CBD. It makes use of 3.2 hectares of space and includes several notable venues for art and cultural events and performances along with museums, galleries and restaurants. You can learn more about current and upcoming events on the Fed Square website. There are a handful of modern buildings with appealing architectural design on the square, making this an interesting place to browse and spend time even if not visiting to attend events. For this purpose you can pass by and spend a few minutes just before crossing Princes Bridge and the Yarra River to spend time at the Gardens or South Bank attractions to the south.

We visited this museum, it was very close to our accommodation.. it’s free to enter however they do have a few exhibits that you have to pay $18 to visit but we did not.. this is a museum that centres on art , some done by indigenous people and their culture .. others done with recycled material, and others from famous people like James Brown + many more .. you can take pictures as well .. there is a gift store and bathrooms on every level .. there are escalators and elevators…

Lovely sky scrappers view from Fed Square in a typical sunny day. Clear views of several buildings in one frame.

Federation Square, located on Swanston Street in the heart of Melbourne, is one of the city’s most popular meeting points and cultural hubs. Overlooking the Yarra River and opposite Flinders Street Station, it blends modern architecture, art, food, and community events all in one space. Fed Square has an energetic and creative vibe. It’s a great place to rest, people-watch, or take in the buzz of the city. The open plaza hosts everything from festivals to public screenings, making it a central spot for both locals and visitors.
Marco T — Google review
Federation Square — or simply “Fed Square” as locals call it — is one of Melbourne’s most iconic and lively public spaces. Situated right opposite Flinders Street Station, it serves as the cultural heart of the city, bringing together art, events, and community in one dynamic location. The architecture itself is bold and distinctive, with its angular shapes and open design symbolizing Melbourne’s modern and creative spirit. What makes Federation Square truly special is its versatility. On any given day, you’ll find a mix of tourists taking photos, locals relaxing by the big screen, and street performers adding rhythm to the atmosphere. The square often hosts public events, film screenings, cultural festivals, and live concerts — making it a true reflection of Melbourne’s vibrant and inclusive character. Inside the precinct, you’ll find world-class institutions like the Ian Potter Centre (NGV Australia) and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), both celebrating creativity and storytelling in unique ways. Add to that the surrounding cafes, restaurants, and the Yarra River view, and you have one of the most engaging spots in the city. Federation Square isn’t just a meeting place — it’s the beating heart of Melbourne’s culture, where art, people, and energy come together seamlessly. #FederationSquare #FedSquare #MelbourneCulture #VisitMelbourne #MelbourneLandmarks #ACMI #NGVAustralia #CityOfMelbourne #ExploreVictoria #PublicSpace #MelbourneVibes #TravelAustralia #YarraRiver #CulturalHub #MelbourneLife

Very wonderful plaza place. This is a nice place to meet up at, as there are many places to sit and talk about whatever is happening. This place is right opposite Flinders street railway station, which is good, i guess. This place holds many different events and shows, and at Christmas time, has some amazing Christmas decorations, like a giant Christmas tree, and more. Very nice.

Art Museums
The National Gallery of Victoria, also known as NGV, is a renowned art museum in Melbourne that boasts an extensive and diverse collection of Australian and international art and artifacts. It is divided between two buildings: the Ian Potter Centre in Federation Square and the NGV International on St Kilda Road.
This is my first business trip to Australia, and I’ve come to the city of Melbourne. Today is Sunday, and I finally found some free time to visit an Australian art gallery. The collection here is very diverse, featuring both Eastern and Western works, including sculptures, art creations, and paintings. I personally prefer viewing paintings, so I took many photos of them. I won’t go into too much detail here, but I highly recommend everyone visit, it’s a truly visually pleasing experience.
CH — Google review
The NGV is definitely a must-visit when you’re in Melbourne. The variety of art on display is incredible — from classic works to contemporary installations, Indigenous pieces, and international exhibitions. Every room offers something unique, and you can easily spend hours exploring without getting bored. What I loved most was how thoughtfully everything was curated. The exhibitions had a clear flow, the descriptions were informative, and the overall vibe was calm and inspiring. The gallery space itself is also stunning — spacious, clean, and easy to access by public transport. That said, it can get very crowded during major exhibitions. Some parts felt rushed or hard to fully enjoy because of the number of people. Also, the layout can be a bit confusing at times, especially when transitioning between different sections or locations. A few visitors seemed frustrated by early room closures or long queues for ticketed exhibits. Still, the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. NGV offers a rich cultural experience and is a gem for both locals and tourists. Just try to visit on a weekday or earlier in the day to avoid the peak rush!
Emily W — Google review
I recently visited the National Gallery of Victoria and absolutely loved it! The art collection is diverse and beautifully presented, combining Australian, Indigenous, and international works. The building itself is stunning, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Entry to the main exhibits is free, which makes it even better. A must-visit spot in Melbourne for art and culture lovers!
Anup K — Google review
The NGV is always a great place to spend a few hours, even though it was quite packed during my visit, there’s so much to see that it’s worth it. The mix of permanent collections and changing exhibitions keeps things fresh, and I really appreciated that some of the exhibitions are free, which makes it very accessible. A must-visit if you’re in Melbourne.
Daisy H — Google review
My wife and I were visiting from Sydney and decided to go to the NGV as we were walking around the city. We were very pleasantly surprised at the diversity of the art and sculptures in the collections. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Melbourne.
Henry B — Google review
I visited the National Gallery of Victoria on a busy Saturday afternoon with friends. I’ve been a few times before as a local, but this visit stood out because I had the chance to really explore more of what the gallery offers. It’s just a short walk or tram ride from Flinders Street Station if you’re coming by PTV, or plenty of paid parking is available nearby if you’re driving. The building itself is hard to miss, with its large size, striking fountain and man made pond out the front, and of course the iconic water wall at the entrance. Entry is free unless you choose to see one of the rotating paid exhibitions. This time, we skipped the ticketed exhibit and wandered through the many free galleries instead. On the ground floor, there’s a stunning foyer space filled with sculptures and the famous room with the colourful stained glass ceiling, which always feels magical to walk under. From there, you can step outside into the sculpture garden and pond area, which is another highlight. Getting upstairs is easy with both escalators and accessible options. The galleries are currently arranged by region, and it was fascinating to walk through each one and see the differences and similarities across cultures. I especially loved the Japanese and Chinese galleries, the detail and richness of the traditional pieces were incredible. Even though it was busy, the space felt open enough for everyone to explore at their own pace. There were toilets on every level, information points, and staff around to help if you needed directions. The building itself is so large that it almost felt like a maze at times but getting “lost” just meant stumbling upon more artwork to enjoy. We didn’t even manage to get through everything before closing, which only gives me another reason to come back. Everything felt well looked after, and the whole gallery had such a calm, inspiring vibe. I’d absolutely recommend visiting the NGV if you’re in Melbourne and looking for something to do in the CBD. It’s packed with history, culture, and beauty, and it’s the kind of place that makes you want to return again and again.

Stadium
Sights & Landmarks
The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is an iconic sports venue with a rich history dating back to 1853. It has been the main stadium for the 1956 Summer Olympics and is known as the home of Australian football. With a capacity of 100,000 people, it's one of Melbourne's top tourist destinations. The MCG offers daily tours that provide visitors with insights into its storied past and significance in Australian sports history.
Visiting the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the first time was truly a memorable experience. The sheer history of this iconic stadium is impressive, and the guided tour brings it to life in a unique way. Our guide, Jerry, was knowledgeable and engaging, making the 60–70 minute tour informative and enjoyable. The tour takes you deep inside the MCG, including exclusive areas like the players' seating boxes, and members' lounges. One of the highlights was the bird’s eye view from the top, which gives you a real sense of how massive the ground is. There are a few facilities on site including a small café and a gift shop for souvenirs. Parking can be tricky since it’s not available inside the stadium, but we were lucky to find street parking easily on a weekday. For cricket fans, timing your visit is key. The stadium often hosts football games, so the pitch is not always set up for cricket. The best time to experience it in its full cricketing glory is during the Boxing Day Test match around Christmas. Overall, it’s a must visit spot in Melbourne, rich with sporting history and atmosphere especially if you are a cricket fan.
Yasser J — Google review
Experiencing the history and grandeur of the renowned sporting arena was truly remarkable. The comprehensive tour provided an intimate look at the stadium's iconic features, including the hallowed grounds and player facilities. Engaging with the rich heritage and significant moments that have transpired within its walls was captivating. The informative insights into the venue's evolution and its place in sports history were enlightening. Overall, the visit left a lasting impression of admiration for the venue's significance.

Visiting the Melbourne Cricket Ground was truly a memorable experience. The stadium’s sheer size and historic significance immediately stood out—it’s not just a sporting venue, but a landmark filled with tradition and pride. Walking through the gates, I could feel the energy and legacy of countless legendary matches that have taken place here. The guided tour was well-organized and gave fascinating insights into the stadium’s history, the players, and the cultural importance of cricket in Australia. Standing in the stands and imagining the roar of over 100,000 fans was simply breathtaking. The MCG shop was also a highlight, offering a wide range of memorabilia and merchandise, perfect for any cricket lover. Overall, the visit was both exciting and inspiring. Whether you’re a cricket enthusiast, a sports fan, or just someone who appreciates history and culture, the MCG is an absolute must-visit in Melbourne

Visited the MCG for the AC/DC concert, and it was an unforgettable experience! The energy, the sound quality, and the atmosphere were absolutely electric. The stadium was well-organised, easy to navigate, and the vibe was just incredible. A perfect venue for a legendary show! ⚡🎸

My daughter and I, visiting from England, had a great time on the tour of the MCG. Expertly guided by club member Anne, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience on the eve of the AFL Grand Final. As we anticipated, the changing rooms and Long Room were out of bounds so close to the big event, but these minor disappointments were soon forgotten as the rest of the tour was so informative and inspiring. Should you have the opportunity to also visit the adjoining museum you must do so, as this is a phenomenal experience. Many thanks to Bill, the very helpful volunteer who entertained me here. A real highlight of our trip to the city.

This is the second largest cricket ground. We were welcome to visit the cricket ground. Each and everything of the auditorium was clearly presented to us. We saw the cricketers landing area , their changing rooms , Physio therapy rooms , resting rooms . The ground was being maintained. We also saw the place where the speakers sit , the management sitting area cafeteria and so on . The best part is the museum. Very informative. Must visit whole you are at Australia don’t miss it.

The shrine hosts over 120 ceremonies and commemorative services annually, making it an active venue for honoring heroes. Its location offers stunning views of Melbourne city and the bay area. A beautifully designed and deeply moving memorial that honours those who served. The architecture is striking, with panoramic views of Melbourne from the upper balcony. Inside, the exhibits are thoughtfully curated, offering both history and reflection. The Eternal Flame and the Ray of Light ceremony add a solemn touch. Peaceful gardens surround the shrine, making it a place of both remembrance and quiet contemplation. A must-visit for anyone in Melbourne.

It has been years since I was last at the Shrine and I cannot remember it looking so well kept and iconic. This area is such a wonderful part of Melbourne to walk around and to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for Australia. The trees around the Shrine are dedicated to various Battalions and units throughout the ADF history. Thank you so much to everyone involved in the maintenance of one of Australia's most sacred areas.

A Profoundly Moving and Beautiful Experience The Shrine of Remembrance is one of the most peaceful and powerful places in Melbourne. The architecture is stunning, the views of the city from the balcony are breathtaking, and the exhibitions inside are informative and emotionally touching. It’s not just a monument, it’s a tribute to history, sacrifice, and remembrance. The eternal flame, the sanctuary, and the hourly Ray of Light ceremony were deeply moving. Highly recommend visiting, whether you’re a local or a tourist. It’s a perfect place to reflect, learn, and pay respects. Free entry and beautifully maintained grounds make it even more worthwhile.

The Shrine of Remembrance is far more than just a monument, it is a moving experience and one of Melbourne's most important landmarks. Visitors should be sure to explore the Galleries of Remembrance beneath the structure. These galleries house exhibitions featuring artifacts, personal stories, and interactive displays. The experience is both educational and emotional. A climb to the Balcony is highly recommended, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Melbourne skyline.

A beautiful and peaceful place that I often visit. The architecture is impressive, and the view from the top gives a great look over the Melbourne skyline. The lush gardens around it add to the serene atmosphere. It’s a war memorial built to honour all Australians who have served and continue to serve in wars and peacekeeping missions. There’s also a museum inside with interesting displays and personal stories. It’s a place where you could sit for hours, switch off, and reflect. Definitely worth a visit.
Hersh S — Google review
It is an amazing place to visit, to learn the history of war. You’d better allow 3 hours to visit the place. There are street parking available that peak hours $4/ hour and off-peak $2/ hour.
LIANCHENG L — Google review
I were surprised there is no charge for visiting Shrine of Remembrance. Donations are accepted. Great place to visit and learn about Australian military involvement around the world 🌎 The architecture is impressive and the view of the city is breathtaking. Thank you all who sacrifice to keep us safe. Peace be on earth 🌎 🙏

The place is truly grand and beautiful, absolutely magnificent. If you visit Melbourne, this is definitely a must-see. Underneath the structure, there’s a museum that you can visit for free.

🏖️ St Kilda Beach in Melbourne is one of the city’s most popular and beautiful coastal destinations, perfect for a day of relaxation by the sea. On a sunny day, the brilliant blue sky blends seamlessly with the sparkling blue water, creating a breathtaking and serene view. Lovely walk from Lighthouse to Table Cape much more relaxing than driving between the 2! 20min stroll each way even dallying to snap photos. Path being upgraded so safe for anyone other than true tearaways. One pitch up/down to take care but I am not fitness freak and enjoyed it!!

We stopped here to checkout the lighthouse before going around to the lookout to enjoy the views. You can have a tour of the lighthouse if your there at the right time. You may want to enjoy the short walk from either if you like to park at one and walk to the other. There are picnic tables at each site if you like to stop for lunch or a snack and enjoy the view.

The Makers' UTAS, located in Burnie, Tasmania, is a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts and those interested in traditional crafts. The workshop offers an engaging paper-making tour where experts use unique local fibers such as wombat poo, apple pulp, and rainforest leaves to create handmade paper using traditional methods. Visitors can explore the information center to gather details about various attractions in the area and enjoy a bite at the on-site cafe.
Information centre has plenty of information you can pickup on the different places you can visit while you're in Tassie. There is also a cafe you can have a bite to eat and the bit we enjoyed the most was all the hand made crafts you can see and buy. You may also have the chance to speak to the artist directly. Highly recommend you pop in.

A stunning waterfall to visit. We visited during heavy rainfall so the waterfall was definitely larger than normal. This 11-hectare garden offers rhododendrons & other plantings, plus water features & a tea room.
Loved this garden with all the different areas and associated plants. It would have looked amazing when all the plants were flowering but we were on holiday so limited as to when we could visit . It was fantastic to watch a platypus in the large pond below the cafe. There was also a little grebe with chicks that were constantly calling. Whilst I was filming the platypus I looked down to see a large snake sunning itself on the soil inches from my feet.
Paul C — Google review
What an amazing place! It’s bursting with color and textures everywhere you look. I was thrilled to spot two adorable platypuses in different lakes—such a fun surprise! The staff were incredibly friendly and shared some wonderful stories about the grounds that made the visit even more special.

Was $15 entry which surprised me at first, but after walking through grounds you can tell that they’re well looked after. Also saw a few platypus’ and pademelons which was cool! I didn’t eat at the cafe but it smelt amazing when I walked past.

Lovely little spot, $15 per adult without concession, very nice spot for a wander, spent around 2 hours here wandering about admiring the plants, bugs and little creatures. Quite enjoyed watching the bumblebees flying around gathering their pollen. But also was lucky spotting a Potoroo and what appeared to be an eastern barred bandicoot. Very nice would visit again.

A Peaceful Haven at Wings Wildlife Park Wings Wildlife Park is a true gem nestled in the tranquil Gunns Plains countryside. From the moment you arrive, there’s a deep sense of peace in the air—surrounded by lush hills and the soft sounds of nature, it's the perfect escape from the busy world. What makes this place truly special is the heartfelt vision behind it. The idea to bring together native and exotic animals, farm life, and genuine hospitality in one place is simply brilliant. It’s more than just a wildlife park—it feels like a living, breathing sanctuary shaped with passion and care. The animals are clearly well loved, and the enclosures are thoughtfully designed. I especially enjoyed the Tasmanian devils. The caretakers were incredibly informative, sharing stories and facts with warmth and enthusiasm, which made the experience both educational and memorable. Wings Wildlife Park is not just a place to visit—it’s a place to slow down, connect with animals, and appreciate the quiet beauty of Tasmania’s rural heart.

The best zoo I have been to in Australia. marmoset and meerkat encounters are relatively cheap and you get to hand feed and spend up to 20mins in each enclosure. the monkeys like climbing on you and hanging out which was our highlight. The breadth of animals they have is great and would highly recommend to anyone.

Very interesting place. The lady at reception was very enthusiastic and all other staff i saw were extremely happy and helpful. A great experience feeding fish and kangaroos. Was also great to walk through the farm area. The drive down was scenic and beautiful, I have rarely seen such amazing scenery. There are a few single lane roads, so be careful driving if its dusk. Many animals are rescues and it is such a wonderful thing to see them being taken care of.

Good value for the entry fee, tour went for approx an hour and the cave is very interesting and you see a fair bit! Worth the trip if you're in the area, great to combine with other activities to make a day of it. Parking was good and there was toilets at the entry. We had a large group made up of multiple smaller groups, but the guide did a good job of making sure everyone saw things and rotated front people etc. Glow worms are cool to see at the end.

The Spirit of Tasmania, Devonport Terminal is the primary ferry operator connecting the Australian mainland to Devonport. The vessel was constructed in Finland and has been servicing the Melbourne-Devonport route since 2002. The journey across Bass Strait takes around nine to eleven hours, offering various amenities on board such as a buffet restaurant with complimentary soft drinks, friendly staff, comfortable cabins with adjustable temperatures and spacious bathrooms. Additionally, there are entertainment options including dining, drinking, and a play area for children.
What a wonderful experience. A little daunting with everything going on (first time traveller) but everyone was very helpful and instructions were very clear. Wonderful way to travel with a fully loaded car. Sunrise in Geelong was awesome so highly recommend waking up really early. Thank you SOT staff, was a pleasure to travel with you.
Neil D — Google review
Travelling on the Spirit of Tasmania is most definitely the best way I find to travel to & from Tassie for holidays & photoshoots. I can take my own car, taking as much luggage & gear as I need, and return back home to Geelong with lots of uniquely Tasmanian produce like honey, ciders, raspberry jams, gins & wines. The service from the staff, both onboard and on land is exceptional....friendly, efficient, attentive and helpful. All of my 14 crossings have been comfortable & relaxing with the on deck furniture, photos of Tassie on the walls, or the views from the windows. There is plenty of variety of good food from both the TMK and the bar on Deck 9; and entertainment in the cinemas, performers on Deck 9 or people promoting Tasmanian produce. I choose to travel overnight and book 'inside cabins' with their own toilet & showers, as there is less rock & roll if there are any swells & rough seas etc in the Strait. Also, that way, I am not wasting a day travelling and can get going first thing in the mornings to see, photograph & experience the beauty of Tassie. The embarking and disembarking processes are quick & efficient, especially considering the number of people & vehicles that are travelling most times. It is also a lovely view and experience to see both Geelong(my hometown) and Devonport from a different POV when standing on the decks photographing.

This was our 3rd time to Tasmania on the Spirit., enjoyed it all. We have taken motorhome before, then tent another time. This time travelled in our vehicle to hire a van in TAS. Staff doing the boarding were great in directing traffic on and off. Very clean and comfortable whichever way you choose and we have done all modes. Staff very helpful, food and drinks great. For us the Spirit is our favourite way to get to Tasmania. Hopefully I’ll get to sail on one of the new SOT although this trip possibly is our last( sadly) We love Tassie, the people, history and the amazing scenery everywhere.. highly recommend this journey to everyone❤️❤️❤️

I traveled to Tasmania recently for a 10 days holidays with my Amiga Anne, & we went on board the Spirit of Tasmania Ferry with Anne’s car. We booked on line, travelling by day with reckliner seats & booked a cabin on our trip back to Geelong port last Sunday night 12/10/25. Being both pensioners we got a huge discount on our tickets. Love taking the Spirit of Tasmania to Tassie for trips. Very easy when you want to take your car (or not)! Great staff across the board, and the onboard amenities are great, including the cabins (can only speak on behalf of the twin or bunk rooms, however am sure all variations are great). Such a lovely location for a house made hot chocolate! There are viewing windows to have a look at what is being made or decorated in store. The shop had some interesting things. We would like to have gone to the museum, but at $25 entry fee, we decided not to go in. It seems a lot for a little town’s museum. You’d think they would charge less and be happy to have more people go in. 🤷‍♂️

The West Coast Heritage train ride was a great event And it fully explained how the rack pinion train was able to reverse very steep in clients. The staff were very attentive and friendly although they were very busy to doing the things that they had to do while the train was in motionwe took the first class carriage where you got food included in the package and was a great way to intersperse the train ride I’m enjoying some of the local food and produce. The carriages were furnished as if they were back in the day

Wow. So much history. So much to look at. Something for everyone. I only wish we had more time

Such a comprehensive experience. This centre is well worth a visit if you are interested in the heritage of the surrounding area. There is a great deal of information in a well presented manner. The staff were super friendly, the amenities were clean, they have umbrellas for you on rainy days. The fact that you can visit multiple visits on your ticket is a huge bonus.

Definitely put this on the "to do" list if you're visiting the west coast with kids. Gem & mineral collection is very extensive. Great mine simulations and you get to glimpse inside the Gaiety theatre, stepping back into a bygone era It rivals any museums in Sydney or Melbourne.
Dan W — Google review
Expensive at @$25 for an adult, but reasonable for a family ticketed at $55. A couple of engines, some great old photo upstairs about local mining operations. A Very good mineral collection. Some very interesting exhibits inside and out. Would say its a bit tired and the displays look like it was put together by volunteers not professionals. But an enjoyable few hours.

Spray Tunnel

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The location on Google maps is a little misleading. You might not find it (or decide to turn back as we almost did). Read the road signs and keep driving till the end of the road. It's a gravel road through a dense forest. It is definitely worth visiting.
Rahul G — Google review
Worth the detour and the tunnel has an eerie but cool feeling to it. The single dirt track road leading to the tunnel was a little sketchy. Encountered one car which we manoeuvred around carefully but second car had us reversing very slowly backwards for 100 meters, little hairy.
Nel C — Google review
This was on my bucket list of places to visit on this Tassie trip. It’s a little out of the way at Zeehan but easy to find. You can drive a car up to the car park which is at the tunnel entrance, certainly under 6m in length is advised I walked my dog along the MTB signed track, it was a 4.2 km return journey back along the road. It’s amazing how nature has taken over such a heavily industrious area. The tunnel will always remain and is a lasting reminder, it would be fun to do with kids, a bit spooky! 😂😂
Paul S — Google review
Very cool history especially with all the footings from the old mining gear.
Stuart P — Google review
Went day in the day time and went back again at night to see the glow worms! It’s actually quite an amazing sight. I’ve seen glow worms at other places, but not at a place where you can take photos freely. I didn’t brought my tripod tho - so unfortunately no photos anyways 😂 please do not shine lights on the glow worms it maybe harmful for them. The road getting there is very windy so drive safely. It can get very creepy and eerie at night but if you’re up for seeing glow worms this is definitely the best place around the area!
Xiao C — Google review
Interesting part of Tasmania’s mining history and LOTS of glow worms! Tips to see the glow worms: they are more visible in the evening and night because human eyes can more easily adjust to the dark; don't walk in shining your phone or torch all over - it will wreck your night vision and probably cause the worms to go dark. Using a red light is much better, if you need one. A few of the brightest worms are visible on the roof of the tunnel during the day, but you have to let your eyes adjust. Very cool experience.
J F — Google review
Cute little tunnel to visit if you’re in the area or passing through, no walk — it’s right off the car park area.
Spliceofvictoria — Google review
Great way to spend an afternoon. The walk was very pretty and peaceful. The tunnel was great for photo opportunities (with changed exposure settings - no flash inside) and we managed to see some glow worms.

Reliquaire is a captivating emporium offering an array of diverse items such as toys, jewelry, games, soaps, candles, handbags, clothing, Venetian masks, books, puppets, science and education materials. Additionally, it features Tasmanian produce and homemade fudge alongside leadlight lamps and antique furniture. Visitors can also enjoy the cafe with a selection of food and drinks.
Was recommended to call past on the way through and so glad we did. This shop (although it doesn't feel like it) is such a great experience, amazing how they are able to fit all that cool stuff into one building. Each area has so much to look and the back rooms carry the themes so well. Honestly a small entry fee would be well worth it. Credit to the team who setup/own/run the store.

What an amazing shop!!! We were mesmerised. They have all the unique gifts and so much more. You will need lots of time to come here. Perhaps even have coffee and a slice of cake while you shop. Simply stunning! The staff are very helpful and friendly, and the items are all arranged neatly and beautifully. I can't wait to go back. Love it!!
Flower P — Google review
I remember going here as a kid years ago, and so while we were in the area, I wanted to take my children. It's different from what I remember as, unfortunately, there was the fire back in 2015, but it's still a fantastic shop to visit. There is such a wide variety of things to buy for gifts and some very unique ones. There are also activities in the outdoor areas which the kids loved to play. There has been a lot of thought put into Reliquaire, and you can see it throughout the whole shop.
C.J. W — Google review
Oh I love this store, so many different little spaces, displays and gifts for absolutely everyone. This store is like no other, I have not seen anything like it before. The staff are so friendly and willing to assist when required. I have been here several times already and I am never left disappointed. Thank you Reliquaire for creating such an amazing store to visit. See you again soon. 🤍

What an extraordinary fantasy and memorabilia experience, disguised as a shop! The themed spaces extend from Alice in Wonderland to Chainsaw massacre, with a glorious Father Christmas section - and a red chair for photos. The store has been here for many years and its display are constantly refreshed, I’m told. Come with $5 or $5,000 and be surprised! BTW the cafe next door, Shadows, has good Aussie food at pre-inflation prices!

Coolest gift shop I've been to, huge building with many different areas both indoors and outdoors each with its own theme to explore, definitely worth a visit!

Most amazing store! A place of dreams. We had such a great time looking around. I can't believe they fit so much stuff in one store. They even had earrings from my favourite maker Denz and Co. Definitely stop in if your in the area.

What an amazing store, if you can’t find a gift here you will never find it!! A great mix of practical and fun items. I usually have to drag my husband to the shops but he loved it in here. A trip to the disco toilet should be included in the experience. We had a lovely coffee too. Definitely worth a visit.

Devils@Cradle is a peaceful sanctuary in the Cradle Mountains dedicated to the conservation of Tasmanian devils and quolls. Visitors can explore the sanctuary at their own pace during the day or join guided tours, including night-feeding tours for a unique experience. The Sunset Experience offers guests sweet treats and drinks around a campfire while observing feeding sessions from October to April.
What a fabulous experience. These guys are doing such important work and we loved our guided tour. Our guide was wonderful, clearly had a passion for her job and these beautiful animals. We had a blast, as did our 3 year old. If you're reading these reviews and deciding whether to go here I definitely recommend that you do. It's a great experience and the money you spend goes back into supporting the important work they do.
W A — Google review
I recommend you do a tour to get the most out of learning about the breeding program and conservation efforts. Going around the sanctuary by yourself can get a bit boring and depending on the time of the day, the animals may be hiding. The sunset experience was a surprise for us as we learnt a lot and got to see what we came there for especially after only doing a self-tour. The tour guide was very enthusiastic and has definitely explained everything in detail. We got to pet the Tasmanian devils which was the best part.
Erick T — Google review
Amazing place. Staff were amazing, we had a sunset experience with Zoe as our guide, can highly recommend!! I have never fallen in love with an animal so badly and I work with and volunteer with a lot of different animals. The Devils have got so much character and they are super cute (if a lil rough around the edges on occassion). Yes, the quolls are cute as, but the devils stole my heart completely.
Rhia M — Google review
Took the kids to Cradle Mountain for the first time. Unfortunately, it was raining so we couldn’t do many outdoor activities. Instead, we decided to visit and feed the Tasmanian Devils — and it turned out to be such a great experience! The kids absolutely loved the direct encounter, and as Western Australians, it was really special for them to see these iconic animals up close. Highly recommend this for families with kids and do the feeding too.
Arifin S — Google review
We really enjoyed the Night Feeding Tour at Devils @ Cradle! It was a unique experience getting to see the Tasmanian devils up close, as well as the quolls. The guide was passionate and informative, and it was fascinating to learn about the conservation work the team are doing to protect these species. A must-do experience when visiting Cradle Mountain!

The mazes are well-designed, imaginative, and provide plenty of laughs and challenges—great for both kids and adults. The Village of Lower Crackpot is full of witty signs, miniature buildings, and charming details that reflect a lot of creativity and humour. It’s also a fantastic place to bring your kids! A must visit on your travels through the area! Family-friendly fun! Lots to explore, mazes galore! Cafe has alot of choice for food and drinks. The plain scones are warm served with jam and cream or date scones served with date/maple butter & cream. Fresh & delicious! Clean toilet facilities for all & a kids playground our kids loved! Cute little gift gallery too & highly recommend the show bags for purchase!

So much fun! The mazes are amazing and there are extra things that we discovered within the maze. Reception gave us a list and we spent a fun day finding all the items on the list. Love the lower village of Crackpot. Great fun for any age.

Great family outing and we love the hospitality of the staff. Specially Gayle was wonderful. Thought was raining but after a few minutes the weather was great. Toilets were clean. There is a cafe that serve hot food till 3:30 pm and restaurant closes at 3:00 pm. A gift shop with delicious ice cream and loads of gifts to take away. There is a lavender farm as well that you can visit during the right season.

What a weird little place - in a good way! We stopped by on our drive from Launceston to Cradle Mountain on a weekday afternoon. Empty but made it an even better experience - have not been anywhere like it before. It's a selection of mazes and dad jokes, tiny houses and buildings, as well as world landmarks. You need to see it to get it. Staff were very friendly and pleasant and gave us some jams to take home which was lovely. Would come back and highly recommend.

Bit of a delayed review. But my husband and I went to Tasmazia in February for our honeymoon. We just want to say we 100% recommend! Staff were beautiful and lovely. Beautiful food with views. Amazing mazes! And a great all round fun place. If you're looking for something fun and unique to do, definitely come here. There's so much to see and unique amazing sculptures and mazes. They also have the best pudding. Thank you guys for the amazing time and the beautiful food and service you gave us.

Cradle Mountain, located in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park in Tasmania's Central Highlands, is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The mountain offers a variety of hiking trails, including a well-known hike and boulder scramble to reach the summit with stunning views of the surrounding lakes. Visitors can also explore the area's beauty through lake walks, such as the Dove Lake circuit.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cradle Mountain is absolutely stunning! The views around Dove Lake are breathtaking, and the walks are well marked and suitable for all fitness levels. Peaceful, wild, and unforgettable. We even spotted wombats! A must-see when visiting Tasmania.

You've got to hike these beautiful tracks at least once, or better, do any many as you can! Well worth the sore legs for the mesmerizing scenery & freshest air you'll breathe in a long time. Always dress for 4 seasons, you can suddenly experience sunshine, rain, wind & sometimes even snow.

Even if the weather isn’t perfect, Cradle Mountain in Tasmania is still worth visiting—wombats are the highlight! Though I’m sure it’d look even more stunning under a blue sky.

Cradle Mountain is a must-visit when in Tasmania. We spent two nights here and summited Marion’s Lookout, which offered beautiful panoramas of Cradle and the surrounding peaks. Nature at its best is on display here, with abundant flora and fauna. The trails are also well defined and properly maintained, making hiking safe for all levels. Do kit up with warm clothing and a windbreaker, as it can get windy and chilly on the peaks. Hiking poles and gloves are a nice-to-have and will make things a lot more comfortable too. Highly recommended.

We finally made it to see Cradle Mountain and the Boat shed on Dove Lake. Such iconic locations, and a must place to see when in Tasmania. We caught the bus from vistor centre, which saved alot of walking. Tracks are well signed and toilets are very clean. We highly recommend you visit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🇦🇺👍

All I wanted from my trip to Tassie was to see a wombat. Here, I finally found one. So cute and made my day. It was freezing and raining, but I also loved the walk around the lakes and back to Ronny Creek. There seems to be a good variety of hikes available for different abilities. Shuttles run regularly to whisk you away out of the freezing cold.
Maddie B — Google review
Beautiful national park, the staff at the visitor center were lovely and really helpful and the hike was perfect. I sow a lot of wombat in ronny creek, i went to marion lookout to have a really good view on the lakes and then i did the loop around dove lake.
Gabin S — Google review
It’s an unmissable destination for nature lovers. The dramatic scenery of rugged mountains mirrored in the still waters of Dove Lake is absolutely breathtaking, especially on a clear day. The park is home to many rare and precious species of flora and fauna, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. If you have the time and stamina, a 2-4 day hiking trip through the area offers an unforgettable immersive experience. The journey from Launceston can be quite challenging, particularly in rainy or snowy weather, so joining a guided tour is highly recommended for safety. Even on cloudy or misty days, Cradle Mountain has a completely different charm — the moody atmosphere creates a sense of mystery and wonder, almost like you’ve reached the edge of the world. If you come here, you’ll truly feel the magic and beauty of nature — it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression on every visitor.

These limestone caves feature stunning stalactites, stalagmites, and columns, as well as glow-worm displays and subterranean streams. The main attractions are Marakoopa and King Solomons Caves, known for their accessibility and historical significance.
We visited both the Marakoopa and King Solomon Caves and what a treat it was! Our expert guides Shane and Sue were amazing not only with their knowledge but also the personality they brought to the experience!

Definitely worth a visit! Su gave us a fantastic tour, she was friendly, knowledgeable, and even showed us some fun tricks. She clearly knows a lot about the cave and the creatures living inside. The glowworms were absolutely magical, like stars twinkling in the night sky. It was so quiet and peaceful. The crystal formations were stunning, nature never ceases to amaze me!

I did the great cathedral and glow worms tour. The caves and glow worms were fascinating. The tour guide we had was really engaging. While I was warned of the stairs on this tour I think it’s very doable for most people. You only do a handful of stairs at a time before a break to look and learn. Definitely a must do while in the area.
Eva S — Google review
Wow! Surreal being in the depths of the cave. Wonderful tour. We had a tour guide who sung in the cathedral part of the cave - i will never forget that experience. It was beautiful. Im not very fit, and thought this may be way out of my comfort zone, but it was definitely doable. Check out the tour times before you go, to avoid any long wait times

I’ve been on quite a few cave tours and I would highly rate this one! (I did the Cathedral and Glow Worm tour.) Saw lots of glow worms, cave formations were fantastic, and there is a river running through the cave which adds an extra dimension. Tour was a good 50mins and our guide Sharon was fantastic. The West Coast Wilderness Railway (Queenstown Station) offers a unique experience for travelers, with its scenic journey from Queenstown down showcasing breathtaking views and the opportunity to witness the small engine working hard on inclines. The train ride provides excellent food and drinks, making it unnecessary to have breakfast beforehand. Visitors can also explore the Moonscape Wine Bar in Queenstown for Tasmanian wines, beers, and spirits or stop by Tracks Cafe at Queenstown Station for locally sourced products and artisan goods.
Pre booked online for the Heritage Carriage experience. Absolutely terrific tour /trip. Check in for tickets was easy and the staff were happy and helpful. Your carriage and seating are assigned and you are shown personally to your seats. We enjoyed the commentary, bubbles on arrival and canapés along the way all served by another happy and pleasant team member. The river walk was informative and another welcome inclusion into a step back in time trip. We travelled to Strahan specifically to take this and the Gordon River tour and would highly recommend it as part of any itinerary.
Wendy T — Google review
What a wonderful experience. We prebooked the tickets online and went on the Heritage carriage. It was awesome from start to finish. Shown to our seats we started with a choice of drink followed by canapes. Stooping at another station on the way gave us the opportunity to pan for gold - unfortunately we did not make our millions as no gold was found that day. We then boarded the train again for the next leg through some unbelievably beautiful Tasmanian bush. We were allowed to get out on a little platform as the train moved which gave another experience with the trip. We were then served scones with hot drinks and some wonderful blackberry jam. We then arrived at our destination where we got off for around 40 minutes to go for a walk in the bush and watch the engine being drive to the back of the train for the journey home. You can go up stairs and watch all this from a bridge looking down - quite the experience. We then all boarded the train for the trip back. Again we were served some tasty treats finishing with a gorgeous chocolate that are specifically made for the trainline. We also got to fill in postcards that will be sent by the trainline to anyone in Australia - a lovely touch I thought. The commentary on the journey was great and gave a really interesting perspective on this part of the world. Staff were fantastic and made the journey even more wonderful. Totally recommended and if it's in your budget, would recommend the Heritage carriage experience.

We visited Tasmania this long weekend and everyone told us there was nothing to do in Queenstown. Well...I am glad I didnt listen to them. There are other things to do/see there, but because of the short stay we decided to do the West Coast Wilderness Railway only and be on our way. We were seated with another lovely couple which made the journey more comfortable. The food was very yummy and served at the perfect time. Now... the actual journey. The ride was nice, relaxing and educational. We had a couple of stops before returning back and each stop was fun. I must thank the staff for being very approachable, understanding and helpful. Special thanks goes to Bec...OMG she is the best! We laughed soooo much while learning about the history of the trains and the tracks. She made the journey so much more special. This trip is highly recommended!

Spent a great morning on the train travelling up the beautiful hills. Nice food and great commentary. One section is the steepest in the southern hemisphere and they have to engage the rachett "third wheel" to get up and then down the 1 in 16 incline. Fantastic experience
Ian M — Google review
We took the Rinadeena Rack & Rainforest trip, in the Premium Carriage feom Queenstown. We had some great drinks and light snacks along the way. Dietary requirements were met with no issues at all. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The ride was slow and comfortable, with some history read aloud over the speakers as we went through the forest. There is heating, so it is warm, and toilet stops along the way. It's definitely worth the experience and is a must on the west coast. To wear coast wilderness railways: We would suggest getting a more confident and articulate reader, or even just pre recorded playback for the onboard historical readings. It was a bit painful listening to our guide. It was hard to keep up with the stuttering and mispronunciations, and didn't really get into the stories, which are super important.
Jamie K — Google review
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience on the West Coast Wilderness Railway. Bec’s commentary was excellent as was Jeni’s attention to detail in the service of food and drinks in the premium carriage. The only thing that detracted from our experience was other passengers standing on the outside balcony of the premium carriage. They blocked our view forward on the return journey to Queenstown from Rinadeena. Only one passenger came out to take photos. The others just stood there, one or two for the whole return trip. I t would be good if signs were put up with a maximum of 5 minutes standing time on the outside balcony on both the outward and return journeys from Queenstown.

Tours
RoamWild Tasmania offers an incredible opportunity to delve into the rich history and stunning landscapes of Queenstown through a variety of engaging tours. With local guides leading the way, you can explore fascinating tales of Piners, Miners, and Dam builders while enjoying personalized experiences tailored just for you. Their small group sizes ensure an intimate adventure—perfect for families or those seeking a more personal touch.
We did Roam Wild's Lost Mines - Ancient Pines tour as a group of two adults and one child (7 yo). We were joined by two other people so it made for a great 'small group' experience but I believe that there is only ever a maximum group size of ten so you will always have a really great experience in that regard. After spotting an ad in the Let's Go Kids booklet, and being Minecraft obsessed, the 7yo couldn't pass up the opportunity to go mining in real life! And the experience did not disappoint! Our guide Chris was friendly, professional and knowledgeable in such an authentic way that drew us in and helped us learn so much about the history of the local area as it relates to mining and pining. Having morning tea in the Crib Room of the mine (included in the price) was amazing, and our son could have stayed chipping away at the walls for hours if not for his excitement at getting to go panning for gold. Being able to take a self-guided tour of the old Paragon Theatre before the experience was an unexpected treat! In true West Coast fashion, the weather was drizzly but it didn't spoil our time at all. Bring good wet weather shoes/boots to avoid soggy socks ruining your outing. If you are heading to the West Coast of Tasmania, don't miss out on adding a Roam Wild tour to your itinerary.

A fun and informative evening spent with tour guide Chris. We started with a 4wd tour around Queenstown and then up the amazing Mt Owen to take in the sunset views before we headed out of town for an exclusive mine tour. Chris was absolutely wonderful in sharing her knowledge of the area and answering all of our questions. Big thanks to Diane in helping organise our tour as well 😀

We had the best morning with Anthony who took us and our 2 sons on the Lost Mines Tour. He was full of history, information and stories, helped our boys get some samples from the mine, and made the whole experience unforgettable! Our boys had the best time! After, we spent some time in the beautiful Paragon Theatre and took in a movie about the Franklin River! Highly recommend reaching out and supporting this great business and learning more about the lovely town of Queenstown!

Definitely a must-do in Queenstown! We had an amazing sunset drive up to Mount Owen. Our tour guide was awesome, with heaps of local knowledge shared in a relaxed manner. He was able to answer lots of questions we had about Queenstown, the surrounding areas, and Tasmania in general. We were lucky enough to have a clear evening and were able to see an incredible range of mountains from the top! It was truly one of the most breathtaking views I have seen. We will hopefully be back one day to do more 4x4 tours with RoamWild.

Absolutely epic day with Roamwild. Driver was on time super friendly and safely got us up a pretty dam steep track to the top of mt Owen for our half day shuttle's. Great local knowledge of the town and great tips of the trails and where to go. Can't ask for more then that 👌

Absolutely awesome mountain biking shuttle service. Wonderful driver, and very patient waiting for us at the bottom of the first run. Extremely affordable price for half day shuttle. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back again!

We recently had an amazing experience in Queenstown with RoamWild, participating in 3 of their tours - Lost Mines and Ancient Pines, Lake Margaret, and Mt Owen 4x4. In all cases, we were, in part or totally, taken behind locked gates and immersed in the rugged history, geography and situation of Queenstown by excellent local guides. So much of the story of Queenstown is in the history and this is not easily easily accessed without some local help. RoamWild delivered a truly enjoyable and informative full day, which can, of course, be spread over more than 1 day.

Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Mole Creek, Tasmania, is a renowned wildlife conservation center that offers daily tours to visitors. Since 1985, it has been a popular destination for observing native Tasmanian species such as the iconic Tasmanian Devils. The sanctuary provides an opportunity to get up close and personal with kangaroos and ducks while enjoying the natural environment.
Had already been to 2 other sanctuary in our 12 day trip to Tasmania, so wasn't sure if I wanted to do another wildlife park. Well how wrong was I, this was the best place, able to see all animals in beautifully set up homes. Had multiple devils in the same large enclosure so watching the interactions is priceless. The water birds and kangaroos top off a great place, friendly staff, a good variety of souvenirs. Best place.....

Love being able to get up close with our Tasmanian animals. Also love that this sanctuary cares for animals that can't got back out into the wild, or help them rehabilitate. I feel the sanctuary needs a bit of money spent on some areas that are getting a little tired. Its a wonderful spot and I hope they can get a grant to help.

Very fun day! I had a good experience here. Met many lovely animals. It was my first time to pat a little wombat and tassie devil so soft and cute. Recommend be there before 11 am for free interactive tours

I was very impressed with the staff and the overall experience. I also appreciate that they provide social services for the animals and am delighted by the care they provide. I especially admire how they ensure the animals' comfort is not compromised by visitors. The sessions led by experts, where one can learn about these species, are truly the highlight. Keep up the good work!

I had an incredible experience at Trowunna. I’m really appreciative of all the amazing work they do here. You can tell they really look after the animals and it makes me so happy that they are able to release healed wildlife back into the wild, and have breeding programs in place to boost numbers of these special species.

My partner and I had a wonderful experience at the sanctuary. Seeing the range of rescue animals and how well they were taken care of was great. We took advantage of one of the free guided tours and got up close to a wombat and Tassie devil. It was also great to have a wander to each of the enclosures and hand feed the kangaroos and birds in between. It was a great trip and recommend people to check it out.

Fantastic experience, very friendly and knowledgeable tour, where else do you get to pat a wombat AND a tassie devil. Well worth the trip, you can spend a couple of hours wandering around feeding the wildlife. Go for the beautiful song put out by the albino magpie!

What a brilliant place this is. A variety of wildlife for everyone to see, and the devil’s weren’t worried about coming out to say hi. There are lots of birds, kangaroos, wallabies and wombats. Brilliant work by staff and highly recommend you going in.

Melita Honey Farm

Melita Honey Farm is a delightful surprise for those who appreciate honey and its products. The farm offers a wide range of honey flavors available for tasting, along with other edible products, skincare items, and even bee-themed merchandise. Visitors can also observe bees at work in a glass-fronted hive inside the shop. The farm's honey ice cream is particularly delicious and not to be missed. It's an informative place where visitors can learn about bees and hives while enjoying the various honey-based offerings.
We spent a terrific half hour here one afternoon, and probably could have been longer, except we were rushing to do too much. The staff are super friendly and the shop is full of amazing little surprises. There is a great section with ALL the information about bees and bee keeping and honey. And the two best bits, are the extensive honey tasting and the selection of fabulous honey flavoured icecreams. If you are in the area you really shouldn't miss it. Extra bonus: the glass sided bee hive where you can see the inner workings of the bees world.

Such a great experience trying all of the varieties of flower blossom honey flavours along with nut, chocolate, fruit, spice/chili, pollen/royal jelly augmented varieties and taking home bottles of my favourite flavours. Plenty of high quality local bee/honey themed products along with delicious non alcoholic meads, skincare/beauty products, bees wax candles and of course the decadent honey ice-creams!

We were in Tas from interstate and of course had to visit a honey farm. There were about 35 or so varieties of honey to sample. The gift shop is also quite large with sooooo many attractive and unique items to purchase. I bought myself a vase and salt and pepper shakers. The ice cream i tried was also very tasty. Of course items in the shop vary in price, but no one is forcing you to buy. Toilets onsite which is very handy.

Melita Honey Farm is a delightful spot to explore and buy various types of honey. The staff are exceptionally friendly, making the visit even more enjoyable. I particularly liked the lemon lime honey, which had a unique and refreshing taste. Visitors have the opportunity to try different honey varieties before making a purchase, which is a nice touch. There is convenient street parking available, along with a few parking lots beside the shop. I also bought some Manuka honey for myself. Overall, Melita Honey Farm is a charming place with a great selection of honey and excellent customer service.

Malita Honey Farm is the perfect example of how one beautiful theme can be brought to life in every detail. From the moment you step in, you can feel the love and creativity poured into the place. It’s not just a shop — it’s an experience! 🍯 They’ve got everything from delicious honey tastings infused with unique flavours to skincare, home décor, and an incredible info deck that teaches you so much about bees and honey. Every corner feels thoughtfully curated and full of charm. Truly a place where passion meets creativity — a sweet stop that shouldn’t be missed in Tasmania! 💛🐝

I suspect this honey is no longer pure. I recently bought a new bottle of Leatherwood honey and compared it with the one I purchased back in 2020. The older bottle clearly stated “100% pure honey” on the label, but this new one doesn’t. Visually, the texture has changed — it’s become slightly solid and lighter in color, which makes me wonder if the formula or quality has changed. I’ve attached a photos. The bottle on the left was purchased around 2020, and the one on the right in 2025.

Absolutely need to pop in and check this wonderful shop and area out. We enjoyed going out of our way to enjoy the honey and many different products Melita Honey had to offer. The location and shop is entertaining for kids, fun enjoyable and entertaining for all ages. Pop in and find skim care products and soo much more

5 Stars! So much honey it's not funny :) We were gobsmacked by the amount of flavours here. My favourites are the Leatherwood and Lavender honey. I also bought a small jar of chili honey that I like to add to marinades and also have with my cheese and crackers. So good! We have been here twice now and have enjoyed the experience. Staff are so nice and have a wealth of info. to share. Didn't know that bees were so interesting. If driving through, don't miss.

Nelson Falls

Waterfalls
Nelson Falls is a picturesque waterfall located in the midst of a lush rainforest on the way from Cradle Mountain to Mount Field National Park. It can be easily accessed by taking a short walk of about 700 meters from the nearby car park. The waterfall is surrounded by beautiful moss, ferns, and sassafras trees that add to its scenic beauty. Along the path leading to it are educational panels that provide valuable information about the ecosystem of this native rainforest.
This attraction is on the road from Queenstown going east. Very popular stop - there were lots of cars, motorhomes, bikes and a few caravans stopped. Public toilet was handy. The walk to the Falls is through the forest - very well maintained, crosses the river a few times, then a great view of the falls. Yes, definitely worth a stop...

Nelson Falls is located along the Lyell Hwy 27 km east of Queenstown. There is a fair sized carpark and toilets available at the trailhead. In addition to the falls, this is also one Tasmania's 60 Great Short Walks. The track is 700 metres through thick and lush forest lined with impressive ferns, other vegetation and trees until you reach Nelson Falls which you can enjoy for a few minutes before heading back. During our recent visit, the Falls were very light but the forest environment rich in colour, making for a very nice walk. If you are here to see the falls, it wasn't an impressive showing this time around but if you just want to get out and stretch your legs, the trail itself was beautiful, easy and convenient if making the drive between Queenstown and Hobart and looking for interesting stops to make along the way.

Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park is truly wild and remote. Most of it is only accessible via walking tracks, which makes it perfect for anyone looking to escape crowds. I explored the Nelson Falls Nature Trail and was blown away by the Franklin River — powerful, clear, and surrounded by dense forest. Even a short visit here gives you a real sense of Tasmania’s untouched wilderness.

A must see waterfall and nature walk if you’re passing this Nelson Falls on your way to your next destination. It’s majestic when raining as the falls will turn on its full might. The nature walk (flat easy 20 mins walk) is so serene and refreshing.

On the way past we stopped at the river. Not sure what to expect but the walk was very well maintained and ended up being very pleasant. Everything was green and the waterfall at the end fairly spectacular. Worth the short walk and visit.

This stunner is only a short flat walk to a big gorgeous waterfall! I definitely recommend this stop! Especially for the ones that don’t like walking!
