The Zoroastrians Towers of Silence, located on the hills surrounding Yazd, are a significant example of Zoroastrian beliefs and practices. These structures were historically used for the disposal of corpses according to Zoroastrian tradition. The practice involved leaving the bodies exposed to scavenging birds as a means of preventing contamination of the sacred elements, earth, and fire. Once stripped of flesh, the remaining bones were placed in a central well within the structure.
You can experience deep silence here. Steps are standard and not too much. I walked uphill slowly, and it took me 15 minutes to climb. There are two Dakhmeh there.

Indeed more than sunset. Good maintaining, clear informations provided and non disturbing scene exhibits. Nice space you can't miss in Yazd.

This is where Zoroastrians used to bring the dead and leave them to be eaten by vultures, and the bones would be dissolved by acid in the hole in the center of the tower. The buildings down there were the temporary houses for the ceremonies, because this place was far from the city. Nowadays, they bury the dead in the cemetery near the towers. One of the towers is maintained and has stairs to reach, and the other one is almost ruined.

The Zoroastrian crypt, which is also known as the Tower of Silence and the Tower of Silence, is located 15 kilometers southeast of Yazd on the crypt mountain. This crypt is one of the signs of the ancient customs of Zoroastrians, which is related to the burial ceremony of their dead; official that is obsolete today; But it has left a memory. This historical work is considered among the national works of Iran. I recommend to visit this place at morning.

Very hot in the morning. But worth a visit

One of the place that I found worth seeing the most in Iran. Quite impressive and teaches a lot about some values. Must learn about its history before visiting. It's good to learn about opening-closing times as well.

Abandoned places of Zoroastrian sky-burial. Here the Zoroastrians of Yazd would bring their dead to be eaten by vultures in accordance with their ancient customs. There are two towers, both are accessible, but tower on the smaller hill is more accessible for those who only wish to see one. There are decaying mud-brick structures at the base of the hills that are worth visiting also. The towers have been abandoned since the days of the Pahlavi Dynasty, so they can be visited without fear of offending any religious sentiments. There is not much to see when one climbs to the top of the hills, but if you have an interest in Zoroastrianism, this is probably a place that you must visit.
