Khon Kaen Zoo

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Khon Kaen Zoo is a large zoo featuring animals from around the world. It has undergone significant improvements in recent years, including the addition of Khon Kaen Water Park in 2014. While not as expansive as some other zoos, it offers transportation options and a gift shop for visitors' convenience. The entrance area offers local food such as grilled chicken and papaya salad.
One of the best zoo in Thailand. There's golf cart to rent and drive around freely or you can take a tram to go spot by spot. Many zones has been newly renovated. Animals are in good health and active. Nice place to spend quality hours with your family.
Opas O — Google review
It's a great zoo and very big. But i don't recommend walking cause it's too big. Take the tour cars or hire a private golf cart for a good price. I came too late only 2 hours before close and it was too short to enjoy all the animals.
Joakim H — Google review
The zoo is very nice and offers a wide variety of animals and species. The highlights are definitely the capybara parade and the sea lion show, which lasts around 20 minutes—entertaining without taking too much of your time. For getting around, the zoo provides a small open-air shuttle bus for only 10 baht per person (easy to hop on and off) or, if you prefer, a golf cart for 300 baht per hour for personal use. Both options are very convenient given the size of the park. Some reviews describe the place as run-down, but I don’t agree. The zoo is very large, so it’s unrealistic to expect every single corner to be spotless, yet overall the maintenance is good. The animal enclosures are more spacious than I expected, and the animals seem to have enough room to move around and retreat to their own spaces when needed. The only downside is the ticket policy. Foreigners are charged a much higher price than Thai visitors, even though everyone enjoys the same activities. In my opinion, this is unfair and leaves a bad impression. I also suggest the zoo to clearly state that foreigners with the pink ID card are entitled to the Thai price, since not all staff seem aware of this rule. In my case, the cashier tried to overcharge me and gave me no explanation other than: “Well, because you are a foreigner.” This was very disappointing and unprofessional. Overall, the zoo is worth visiting for its variety of animals, unique shows, and size, but I really hope the management reviews their pricing policy to make it a more welcoming experience for everyone
Agnese T — Google review
This zoo has dual pricing, 350 for a foreigner and 130 for Thai people. Foreigners don’t receive anything extra despite paying more. If you are charging so much more for foreigners, at least provide some freebies with the ticket, like a bottle of water and a free tram ticket. The zoo itself is ok. There are some fun feeding opportunities and the seal show is entertaining. It’s a huge space, you definitely need to take the tram around or hire a golf cart for 300 per hour. There is also a water park, a camping zone and the Africa zone 2km away from the zoo.
Will K — Google review
Visited with my family had tons of fun plenty of animals to see. We didn't have time to go into the water park. Little visitors. Snack and drinks prices are normal. Would love to come again
Li T — Google review
Good place for children but there were a lot of people waiting for the shuttle bus to move station to station so it would be nicer if they have a bit more.
Live M — Google review
Children loved it. Highly recommend hiring your own golf cart to get around the zoo. Had no issues with the hills like some other reviewers had. Took us about 2.5 hours, navigating at our own speed. The zoo was clean and the animals seemed to be well looked after.
Jamie N — Google review
Good zoo, suitable for taking children, exciting, there is a seal show, there are many kinds of wild animals but not many, the ticket price is not expensive, there is a golf cart rental service, you can drive yourself, you can stop as you like, overall good.

Mo Hin Khao

Park
Nature & Parks
National Parks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is one of the coolest bizarre sandstone formations in the area. It resembles a set of towers and represents the remnants of hard conglomeratic sandstone from the Mesozoic period that survived millions of years of erosion. The area has a nice parking place and is easy to reach by road.
Rene P — Google review
Mo Hin Khao, often called the “Stonehenge of Thailand,” is a fascinating and unique natural attraction. The massive rock formations scattered across the landscape are both mysterious and beautiful, especially during sunrise or sunset when the light casts dramatic shadows over the stones. It’s a dream location for photography lovers and those who enjoy unusual geological sites. What’s even better — access and parking are completely free, which is rare for such an impressive attraction. There are a few walking trails around the site, and some spots offer great panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the facilities are quite basic — there are limited signs, minimal shade, and not much in terms of food or drink options nearby. A bit more infrastructure could make the experience even better. Still, Mo Hin Khao is absolutely worth a visit. Peaceful, unique, and completely free — a perfect stop for a day of nature and exploration.
Piotr K — Google review
Moh Hin Khao is one of the main attractions in Chaiyaphum province. Moh Hin Khao itself refers to the biggest and the most impressive stone group - of three stone groups, formed by nature, which are at the area - or the whole area. Moh Hin Khao is part of Phu Lan Kha national park network. For the sake of simplicity I will call Moh Hin Khao the whole area, whose main places to visit are those three stone groups, two viev points, two camping areas and a nature trail. Moh Hin Khao has been compared to Stonehenge in UK. I cannot say anything about this because I haven't visited Stonehenge, but after seen Moh Hin Khao stone group I don't need any such analogs, either, because Moh Hin Khao as itself is a spectacular presentation of the might of the nature. Even though it isn't a high season, Moh Hin Khao seems to be a popular place. It was Saturday morning when we visited there, and people where coming and going, and there were numerous tents at the camping area. At the high season - whenever it is.. - there are street restaurants and shops at the area; now they were almost all closed. The entrance to the stone groups is free but if you wanna go to the camping areas & view points, you have pay a symbolic entrance fee - on July 2024 it was 20 baht for a Thai person, 100 baht for a farang and other tourists, 20 baht for the motorbike (the fee for the car or camping I don't know but it cannot be much, either). Moh Hin Khao is an interesting place, and the whole area - not only the first stone group - is absolutely worth of visit.
Hannu T — Google review
Thailand's Stonehenge. Good place for a stopover to rest before continuing to reach the peak not far away. Awesome for some Instagram photos shot 📸 as the scenery looks like in medieval era. Clean fresh and cooling air as this province mainly involve agriculture.
Kenny C — Google review
The "Stonehenge of Thailand". Yet it appears to be completely off the tourist radar. There was nobody else there while we visited – on a public holiday, nonetheless! The site has a cluster of 4 freestanding limestone rocks that are quite tall and probably were created through erosion. The rocks are in a straight line, not circular like at the real Stonehenge 😊. Although it's a bit far from any town, it's definitely worth a visit, also for the nice views over the flat farmlands below. Free entrance
The T — Google review
A truly amazing place. These stones look like they are growing from the ground.
Rami K — Google review
The park is beautiful. Real Thailand. There is camping. Do not throw trash on the ground. Keep it clean and have some respect for yourself.
Ryan — Google review
I walked around the area it was so beautiful and it’s not so far from the camping site about 1-2 km away from there. There are so many shapes of rock. It is so amazing to see such “andscape. I recommend to go there in the morning or late afternoon when the weather is not so hot. There are also some pavilions that you can take a rest and have a picnic there.

Phu Foi Lom National Park

Nature & Parks
Phu Foi Lom National Park is an expansive ecotourism destination designed to preserve rare flora and fauna. Visitors can wander through vibrant gardens, explore various trails, and admire picturesque landscapes. The park also features dinosaur statues and offers picnic areas. While the visitor center may be closed, the park provides a free and accessible retreat from urban life. Located near Khon Kaen and Udon Thani, it offers easy access for a day trip or weekend getaway.
1st time, camping alone of my life. Quiet place, also just have what you need for camping. Toilet are good and clean but no flush toilet just classic one. I meet new friends here. Good to visit on Nov-Jan.
Sarawut P — Google review
Very nice park near Udon. Foreigner price 100b but they allowed me in for 20b because flowers not yet in full bloom. January will be the best time to see the beautiful flowers in bloom. Still lots of nice flowers and insects at this time in October.
Thai T — Google review
Lovely park with nice long walks, great viewpoints and beautiful gardens. Watch out for the dinosaurs! The place had lots of facilities although it is a bit tired and in need of some maintenance. The signposting could be better on the upper parts where the temple and the walks are.
Peter M — Google review
I couldn't believe this place was free to visit, the only negative was the visitor centre was closed and no information or leaflets available to provide a plan of the area. The signposted viewpoint is actually not the best viewpoint; carry on up the road from the main site to find the best views. There is a Caffè and Toilets in the Park. I think many Thai people come for the beautiful flowers and to have their photos taken with the flowers. It looks like you can camp for free on the site, could see an office where you would pay.
Miles M — Google review
Love this park. Everything is well taken care of and looks so beautiful ❤️
Ferxo C — Google review
Beautiful gardens This is one of the many places you can incorporate into a day trip around the Udon Thani area. Probably an hours drive from town and is about 600m above sea level. The garden areas are not massive but there's enough there to be worth a visit. The arrangements are very nice and colourful. The place is kept tidy and clean. Maybe a morning visit would better as in the afternoon it's quite hot and not as enjoyable.
Frank T — Google review
One of my favourite places not too far away from civilization - easy to reach from Khon Kaen and Udon Thani. Free entrance which these days is a rare find. A convenient drive up to the National park station and good paths up the mountain not too difficult even for the elderly, yet still natural. The temperature up on the mountain tends to be much cooler than down in the plains even though it isn't really that high at just some 600+ meters.

The Phu Wiang Dinosaur Museum, located about 80 km northwest of the city, offers a fascinating insight into the region's prehistoric past. The museum features full-size dinosaur models, excavated fossils, and educational exhibits on geology and dinosaurs found in Thailand. It is an ideal destination for families with kids as it provides an informative and extensive experience. Additionally, there is a dedicated section for children to engage with the displays.
For 60 baht per adult, it is definitely worth it. Just see some of our photos and videos
Noel T — Google review
We drove from Vientiane to see this place. We even braved a flood getting there. But as nice as the place is, and as cheap as it is, I would’ve happily paid more for a bigger experience. We were done in 30 -35 minutes. If you’re in the area sure. But not a place to go out of your way for.
Dr. Q — Google review
A great place to take children to learn about dinosaurs, geology and fossil fuels. It does have dual pricing for foreigners but it is not excessive for the quality of the museum.
Jamie F — Google review
Interesting museum with many finds and fossil discoveries.
Aziz ( — Google review
Dinosaur museum very good, gift shop and cafe. I have been about 4/5 times alway enjoy.
Roy C — Google review
Good museum where you can view fossils and dinosaurs of Thailand. If you want to include a visit to a real dig site, I recommend you drive or negotiate with a driver to take you to both the museum and the nature park
喜酒Kish — Google review
It can be bigger and can have more interactive activities for kids! Kids can't read the exibition. They want to touch , watch , and play. But it is rather small for the big finding
Parichart S — Google review
Good learning place about dinosaurs that were found in thailand. There is an activity area for kids. This place can inspire children to be a geologist. Not crowded at all in week day that we visited. Kinda hope they have more activities to do or display info in more exciting way

Phu Kradueng National Park

Mentioned on
4 lists
National park
Nature & Parks
Phu Kradueng National Park is Thailand's second oldest national park and a popular tourist destination in Loei. The park offers forested trails amidst sandstone mountains, waterfalls, and campgrounds. Climbing to the top requires a high fee but rewards visitors with stunning views. The trek to Pha Lom Sak viewpoint takes about five hours and can be challenging, especially the 5km uphill climb.
Even with the interior trails closed this was a fantastic experience. Spent 2 nights camping. Had to ask for a second sleeping bag as nights were surprisingly chilly. Will have to come back to see the sunrise viewpoint and interior trails. Definitely rent a fatbike.
Thomas D — Google review
Just back from a 2 night stay camping in the park, as other reviews say you can rent everything you need there - prices start from 225B for one night tent rental. Dropped a star as many of the trails aren’t open which is a shame, it would be good to have information provided at the beginning of the hike so you know what to expect at the top. The hike up was very busy (perhaps due to being on a Saturday) to the point we had to wait a lot for others to move ahead. Hike down on Monday morning much more enjoyable! Overall definitely would recommend!
Lydia P — Google review
Climb took 5 hours, at the top you would still have to walk 3km to reach the camping site 🏕️, there you can rent everything you need to sleep. You will Have showers 🚿 (cold 🥶😅), restaurants and others local shop. The natural park at the top is big and many site to visit. It is cold at night up there 13-15°. The decent took us 2h30 with good wearher. You must leave before 13h from the top camping site, otherwise you will beed to sleep one more night.
Geno G — Google review
Phu Kradueng is a rite of passage among Thai hikers. If you want to learn hiking this is the park for it. Direct route from Mo chit 2 station with a connecting Songthaw at Jae Gim (it is an institute among hikers). This is one of the most unique hiking route in the world. It is catered to the teeth. There is a famous saying for Phu Kradueng "You only need to bring money to conquer this hike". It is definitely true. Whatever you need or want is available here. Need supply, vendors here have it. Did not bring enough clothes. For sale here. Heck if you cant be bother to walk up, you can pay to have people carry you up. It is not a difficult hike if you can walk 10km on the flat and have some fitness level. Most people complete the route in 3-6 hrs depending on how long your stops. It is so unique that you have to come. It is not a hardcore hike but it sure will leave an impression.
Nisit P — Google review
Hiking trail is not too difficult, you can easily hike up until you reach the top and it took around 3-4 hour. Should check info before coming if you want to see maple leaves or waterfall. I came here at the end of Mar few years ago and the trail to waterfall was locked temporrately because of safety reason. Visit this place on weekday, it would not be crowded, can see sunrise and sunset. Great for trekking and camping, and also for spiritual practice.
Han N — Google review
Spectacular! I love every minute spent hiking up and down the mountain. There are trekking routes on the mountain top going though pine woods and savanna with many beautiful waterfalls and cliffs to see sunset and sunrise. This place is breathtaking in both rainy and winter seasons. During the first few months of the open period (OCT-NOV), robust waterfalls and the untouched forest are the highlights. In winter (DEC-FEB), we can expect to find the red maple leaves and the temperature going as low as single digit (degree celsius). The crystal clear sky contributes to the perfect view of the sun rising from the sea of fog and sunset.
Kingkamon S — Google review
A must for every nature lover with a splendid condition. We chose for the mountain hiking and a 3 nights in a tent at the camping uphill. Porters carried our luggage for 30 Baht per kilo. The mountain "walk" was spectacular and exhausting too but worth every dripping of our sweat. Very, very well organised
Marc L — Google review
Amazing place, loved it. If you're here to trek to the top of the mountain, I personally would come prepared. It took us 4.5hrs to get to the top at a steady pace, but I think it could easily take 6 hours. The porters are amazing and will carry your bags for 30 Baht per kg. Once at the top there I many beautiful places to visit, and the good news is its all flat 😂😂. It's much harder coming down, so I personally would wear good shoes with good grip. We saw many people slipping in flip flops.

Nam Nao National Park is a tranquil and wildlife-rich destination in Thailand, offering nature trails, pine forests, caves, and a campground. It's known for its diverse species list, making it one of the best birdwatching spots in the country.
Celebrate a quiet New year with my husband for 3 days, campers here are amazing. No one make noise since 10 pm and most campers are family with young children. Did a full hiking trail for 4 hours, expect to see some wild animals but unfortunately they’ve moved. I think it’s perfect moment to do hiking in winter in late December and it’s worth it. This is perfect for campers who don’t mind shower without heater at 6 degree Celsius(who would shower?) Anyway, it was an excellent vacation place for people who enjoy camping with friends and family.

Good for jungle lover. Cool air. Really wild. Not much landscape view to see. Here is a great place for camping. Warning!! Nothing around here, only small shop, and small restaurant in the park office. Caution!!!! No alcohol being sold here. please prepare your own food and drink from the city, before getting here Because it is very far from the city. ## pls click "like" if you find this review is helpful

My first experience staying in the middle of the forest. Didn’t know that Thailand can be so cold! We enjoyed weather as cool as 11 degrees Celsius at night (end November) so do remember to pack some warm clothes. If you are lucky you might also spot some wild elephants. Not too far off (5km) is a beautiful hill to view the sunrise .
Adeline W — Google review
This national Park has the dual pricing for the Foreigners. 200 thb for an Adult and 100 thb for a child. There is not much to do other than nature trails. Note that there are leeches and better prepare for it. Also note that the waterfall is outside the national park. This place is mainly for staying overnight. The houses are very nice and offered to a great value.

Unseen natural view. I got there New Year time, so the weather is nice & cool. Perfect. But, no waterfall to see.

you can meet wild animal such as asian elephant , slow lorises. This one is meticulously clean and managed. Friendly staff and good atmosphere. very quiet place if you come on summer. don’t worry about hot weather. average temperature 25 degree celsius all the year ( or maybe 16 - 22 degree celsius in some days) i love Nam Nao National park. One of My favorite national park for me.
AntC P — Google review
Lovley camping site, 5 hiking trails 1-5 km. And a lot of bird watching. The resturant is good (a bit expensive)
Atara M — Google review
Quite a good place, was very quiet when we visited. We followed the nature trail - about 1 km I think, saw a few butterflies, some Nephila spiders, no elephants or mammals. It started to rain so we headed back to our car, and as we had just finished the trail loop. Also there were a lot of leeches, which is pointed out on a sign at the entry point. This was a bit of an issue for my girlfriend, and they are good at crawling up your trousers and latching on to your walking shoes. Understandable I guess for a forest, and at the altitude it is at, though the only reason for me for giving 3 stars and not 4 is the discrimination by the Thai National Parks - 40Baht for Thai nationals and 200Baht for "foreigners". I think if they lowered the rate and charged maybe 50Baht for everyone - they would see an increase in visitors. Total cost for entry will be 30 Baht extra if you enter in a car. I suggest if you can and only wish to visit the park once on a day trip - try to stop on the road if you can - safely, and enter the forest without going through the pay for-entry-barrier. This is the second park we have visited, and had to pay again - fortunately we stopped longer and had a good meal and walk in the other park, which also was a lot higher up - so no leeches, and also cooler and better air. Didn't experience unreasonable extra over-charging in Mexico or other countries I don't think. It's not a smart idea - just a money-making racket. Otherwise, I think if you have the time and avoid the leeches, and can do a few other or one of the longer trails, then you may see some other animals or flora. I don't mind the leeches - they take the same amount of blood whether you are English or Thai 😆.

Khao Kho Sacrifice Memorial

Mentioned on

The Khao Kho Sacrifice Memorial is a hilltop marble tower honoring soldiers who died during civil unrest from 1968 to 1982. The area is adorned with colorful flowers, and visitors are asked to remove their shoes before entering the memorial. It's located 1.4 kilometers north of the Weapon Museum and offers a great panoramic view of Khao Kho. Fortifications are also nearby.
Free entry and amazing views. Definitely worth a visit. The history is also quite interesting. Come on a weekday before closing time and it will likely be deserted (which is good). Definitely not the main attraction, but they did have some gorgeous roses planted around the (dry) fountain. Below, there's also a museum which costs 10 Baht. Could be interesting. We might drop by on a future visit.
Cecil M — Google review
A nice and quiet place which one can take a stroll and relax with view. The morning I went was misty though.
Eng L — Google review
Atop the mountain the memorial site is free to visit and displays war machines such mortar guns, tanks, helicopter, and such. You can also enter some bunkers which is quite cool. Otherwise the views around there are great and they set up many viewing platforms to take pictures. Worth the visit, should take about 1-2 hours max.
DominiQC A — Google review
A place to see a memorial of the past fallen comrades. Free entry. Got free car park and toilets. At most, 15 mins visit
Lee K — Google review
Beautiful and now peaceful spot with roses and other colorful flowers. A sign in Thai asks visitors to remove shoes before entering the memorial. Parking is on the south side; steps and ramp to the memorial are a bit farther north. Fortifications and a great panorama of Khao Kho are just north of the memorial. The memorial is 1.4 kilometers north of the Weapon Museum. From the memorial the one-way road drops to Khao Kho district town in a very steep 1.6 kilometers. You could walk all this. If driving, one needs to start on the road from the south end.
Bill W — Google review
Top of the hill. Need to drive carefully as there after you have to drive very steep down. Nice and clean place but nothing much there to see except some view (depend upon weather)

Memorial to some of the fallen soldiers and citizens that made the ultimate sacrifice for the future of Thailand. Modern Thailand would not be the same without them. The insurgents ultimately settled across the northlands, the soldiers that remained returned to their homes.

Nestled high in the hills of Khao Kho, Phetchabun, Wat Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew is a breathtaking Buddhist monastery that captivates visitors with its vibrant beauty. Perched at an elevation of 830 meters, this stunning temple offers panoramic views of the lush countryside and the charming town of Kheam Son.
Absolutely stunning temple on the mountain! Wat Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew is one of the most beautiful temples I’ve ever visited in Thailand. The location is breathtaking — surrounded by misty mountains and cool fresh air. The temple itself is so unique, with colorful mosaic tiles and incredible architecture that feels peaceful and majestic at the same time. Perfect spot for taking photos, meditating, or just enjoying the view. There are also coffee shops nearby with amazing panoramas. Definitely worth the drive up!

It’s an interesting spot to visit. For foreigners do not forget wearing long pants. Otherwise, you are not allowed to enter those temples. Unfortunately I just jumped out the hotel by short pants and couldn’t go inside. Those structures we can enjoy from outside also.

😃🙏This temple is a masterpiece of art and architecture. Every corner of Wat Phra That Pha Son Kaew is adorned with stunning mosaics, and you can spend ages just admiring the intricate details. The main pagoda, with its five seated Buddha statues, is the star attraction and looks even more magnificent with the backdrop of the Khao Kho mountains. I loved walking through the arched walkways and seeing the beautiful golden chedi. It's a very well-maintained and clean site, and the atmosphere is very peaceful despite its popularity. Highly recommend a visit to appreciate its unique beauty.

Way up in the mountains on the way to Phitsanulok from Lomsak, is this incredible temple complex. The attention to detail is stunning, especially the mosaics. It is one of the most incredible sites in all of Thailand. While it is very busy, it does not feel full. There is so much to see and marvel at The scenic views across the valley are breathtaking.

Impressive temple set against the nearby hills of Khao Kho. It is a complex with several temples located in the same area. We went during the rainy season so the clouds on the hillside added to the atmosphere. A lot to see here so you need to have time to visit every where. Access is easy from the highway (Highway no 12). If you are in the area I recommend you visit

Temple nestled in the mountains surrounded by clouds. It is stunning to visit and enjoy the beauty of the temple, buildings and the mountains. There are plenty of shops with nice merchandise and reasonably priced. There are places to eat. Hotels are nearby for convenience. I will be back.

Phu Thap Buek, located in Phetchabun, is a popular tourist destination known for being the highest peak in the province. Rising to 1,768 meters above sea level, it offers breathtaking valley and celestial views. The mountain attracts campers seeking a peaceful retreat with pleasant breezes, beautiful sunrises, and starry skies. Visitors can enjoy the fresh mountain air and scenic vistas while staying in accommodations like huts with roof decks and balconies.
I been to to many places in Thailand and Phu thap Buek is one the best place out of those places. The most beautiful thing about this mountain is the weather both in rainy season and winters too. It is recommended to take warm clothes as the temperatures can fall during night time. During your visit you will find sea of clouds and mist. Coffee shops offers best hot tea as the weather demands for it. If you are in Thailand and love to travel i will highly reccomend to visit here.

Phu Thap Buek is absolutely breathtaking and truly one of the must-visit destinations in Thailand. The journey up the mountain is already stunning, with cool fresh air and beautiful views at every turn. Once you reach the top, the panoramic scenery is simply unforgettable — rolling mountains, sea of mist, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer. The weather is pleasantly cool, especially in the early morning, making it a perfect spot for sunrise lovers. The local stalls and small shops around the area add a charming touch, offering fresh produce and delicious snacks. Overall, Phu Thap Buek is a perfect getaway for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone who wants to relax and enjoy some of the most impressive views in the country. Truly a magical place worth visiting again and again!

Had to wake up at 4:30am (about an hour to go up) to travel to this peak! It was a little disappointing that we could not see the sunrise properly because of the fog but still a place worth visiting! Ps: There’s quite a few shops up here that sell fruits and local food:) don’t have to worry about having a good breakfast. It offers one of the best views from above :)

Nice place for scenic mountain vistas. If lucky, can see the ocean clouds in the valleys below the mountain. Visitors coming would do well to stay at least 1 night to enjoy the gorgeous sunset and sunrise. Plenty of eateries and lodging (but no high-end ones) as I can see. But worth the drive up.
Jensen P — Google review
Phu Thap Buek is a wonderful place to visit so far. It has a beautiful scenic view to look at and It is also very peaceful. I visited there in Mid-July last year with my family, and there were not a lot of people. The temperature was around 18 to 20 Degree Celsius. It was foggy at night and in the morning. The mountain air was so fresh and it smelled nice too! We stayed there for 1 night without any booking. We stayed in like a hut with a roof deck and a balcony. The Inside had just one single bed with a TV wall and a small bathroom. We paid for 3 huts. Each cost 1000 Baht per night. I think it would be better to check or book on the internet because I am sure you can get cheaper ones. Also, I suggest booking for 1 or 2 nights because there is nothing to do other than to relax as it is a rural area and village. I travelled by motorbike, so the thing you should be aware of is the road, you have to drive slowly and make turns carefully because the road is quite steep and winding. Overall, it was a wholesome experience, I really enjoy this place! Recommend for everyone to come here once in a lifetime with families or friends. For those with bikes, It would be challenging, but It is worth It!

Hiking area
Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, spanning 307 square kilometers, is a mountainous area known for its forests, rock formations, and diverse bird population. Situated 120 kilometers east of town, the park holds historical significance as it served as a major headquarters during a civil conflict between the Thai government and the communist party. Despite being declared a national park in 1984 after the war ended, wildlife in the area remains scarce due to the impact of bombings over two decades.
Lovely weather, plenty of trees, and grand landscapes. Hot showers, clean bathrooms, and clean "ish" grounds. We stayed a week and very quiet and peaceful. Be prepared for bees, bugs, and more bees 🐝 They have restaurants, ice, and other goods. They're also bungalows you can rent for big groups.
TRAVELING T — Google review
Probrably the best natural park in Phitsanulok. Great walkability overall. there's provided wooden bridge between streams, canal, and large hole/ravine except for a few parts, but if you're precise enough, you can walk over, other than that there's natural stone area and dirt path along with great amount of directional sign to navigate the place (there's also map of this park at the entrance). You can explore this place even if it's raining (light - low medium rain) better than most natural parks, but you still need to be very around slippery rock, bridge, and slugs, too. (You can repell them by using strong perfume and bug repellent) The nature in this park itself is really diverse with many wild flowers, bryophyte, ferns, trees, and other types of plants, plus there's many interesting shapes stone along side the trailway of this park.

Review: Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park is a fascinating destination combining natural beauty with historical significance. The park features unique rock formations, misty mountain views, pine forests, and beautiful wildflowers. One of the highlights is the “Lan Hin Taek” and “Lan Hin Pum,” where visitors can see extraordinary rock fields formed by nature. Beyond its scenery, the park also holds important history as it was once a stronghold during political conflicts. Today, it offers hiking trails, viewpoints, and campsites where visitors can enjoy cool weather year-round. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A perfect mix of nature, history, and adventure.

I was positively surprised!! As we arrived as announced by phonecall we expected to have accommodation as they offered on the phone. But then the supervisor gave us a book with plenty of houses we could choose. Our house big bedroom and lounge was nicely decorated with balcony outside. But there are many other houses available and during the week our house cost 860THB! Next to it nice restaurants and huge camping. Besides that we wanted to enjoy nature and hiking! There is plenty of it. Many soldiers lost their life in this bloodshed place, so when you go there show respect. Find out for yourself, I am sure you, as we, willcome back. Last not least sherry blossoming in January was finished in February so make your schedule accordingly. I could carry on talking but my wife insists go hiking, so bye, bye to you, hope to see you next time😄😜🤪🤪🤪

I want to talk about all what is not good on Phu Hin Ronkla Nationalpark. Everywhere it is very noisy. Impossible to relax here. Most of the disturbing noise noise the people do they are working and living here. Rangers drive motorcycles with not legal exhaust systems.....they are crazy noisy and don't care the customers they are searching a place for relax. And this from morning 5 o'clock till in the night. There are not 10 minutes of silence. You always hear noisy engines and you always have the bad air of exhaust systems. Of course there are customers too they running their motors without drive their cars. There are information don't make noise and no campfires.... But nobody care... To remove only some leafs from the street they use a crazy noisy Motor-blowing machine. This can be done very easy and much better from hand. Nobody care in this Nationalpark the customers have their silence and freedom... We really like the beautiful location of this Nationalpark, but we get crazy and stressed here... The Rangers with the not legal and completely open exhaust systems on their motorcycles you can hear when they are much more than a kilometer far away.... It is crazy... Where is the boss of the nationalpark?????? Months later.... We must talk again. It is crazy here about noise and disturbing the customers they come for camping here and search silence. Although we talked to a boss here, the extremely noise is going on. Nearly all Rangers here use motorbikes with open exhaust systems. Illegal exhaust systems. The Rangers they control the forests here are not the problem for the customers....but sure a lot of problem for the animals here. But the 3 rangers, with their extremely noisy and illegal exhaust systems, they are every day at the Campgrounds make a crazy disturbing for us customers. And nobody stop them. The second problem with extremely noise is the motor leaf blower they use. It's extreme noisy!!! They use this tool much to often. Often every day. Even when only some leafs are on the street. This can be done from hand without noise. Without disturbing the customers. The customers for camping search in Nationalparks freedom and silence. We do not know another nationalpark with noise problems like here on Phu Hin Ronkla. On weekends big groups come for party's with karaoke and drinking. So other customers should not choose this area for camping. But on the whole area this groups can be heard. This is not acceptable in Nationalparks. The people of the nationpark here have no feeling about disturbing their customers. If this is going on, we never will come again. Months later... nothing change here.....again and again we get the extremy noise here ...and everytime they work with this blowing maschines for hours.....!!!!! And this is not all..... 90% of the scooters/motorcycles and most of the cars of the customers have modyfied and very noisy exhaust systems. But all of them they let them in... It is like to live at a highway....extremely noise all the day and till the night. Even in the night they let them in.... This is a Nationalpark!!!!! Where people search silence and freedom. We talked already aot ti this poeple and even to a boss here. Nothing happen....nobody care..... This people have no feeling, no behaviour.... We never saw like this in other countries....is the amazing Thailand?????.......sure not!!! A month later... There is no end to see about all this extremely noisy problems. Nothing happen....no one care about. If we try to speak with the people of the park they hate us. When we ask to speak with the boss of the nationalpark we get no answer. What happen here....only because our home is in this area we come again. And hope for a change..... But there is no hope it seems....we contacted the nationalpark main office in Bangkok...but no answers we get. So every guest, he feels disturbed should talk to the rangers and people here. And ask where is the boss here to talk... If a lot of guests try this, we have a hope to get the old and silent Phu Hin Ronkla Nationalpark back...

What a lot of the reviewers don't seem to understand is that this is a Night Market for Thai folks, it is not Western Tourist oriented. The bulk of the visitors to Phitsanulok are Thais and Asian Buddhists and they are there to see the famous and wonderful Phra Buddha Chinnarat. In terms of Night Markets then, this is their shopping area, while the produce and street food is located down by a train station about 700 meters away. It is for Asian folks with the usual selection of clothing and makeup, bras, jeans and panties and Tshirts, all in sizes far to small for me, fortune tellers, beer, herbal remedies and Thai style souvenirs. You will not see a lot of Westerners, in fact, I saw one other than myself on a beautiful Thursday night. To get there, just leave the train station and walk towrds the river. The museum provides a good introduction to art and symbology of sukhothai and the surrounding regions. The collection may be small but it does offer a condensed history lesson. The front desk offers a self guided booklet free of charge.

Sao Din Na Noi

Mentioned on
9 lists
Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Sao Din Na Noi, also known as Hom Chom, is a remarkable natural wonder located in Thailand's Nan Province. This area is famous for its unique rock formations that have been shaped by wind and rain over thousands of years. Geologists estimate that these formations are between 10,000 and 30,000 years old and believe that the area was once the bottom of the sea.
Sao Din Na Noi is a must visit when in Nan Province. It is a very interesting geological phenomena created over thousands of years. It is very close to the city of Na Noi with good signage. There is an older trail to follow but it has disappeared in some places but exploring the place is a lot of fun. Go and enjoy your hike!
Z W — Google review
Sao Din Na Noi is a small area with cliffs and green trees and it's over 10,000 years old. The structures are formed by wind and rain. Nice to walk around and perfect location for taking photos. When we were there in November, we were the only visitors
Marjon M — Google review
For travelers like me who do a tour of the superb Nan province. Forget about this place, you will not see more than what’s on the photos. They ask for 100 baths and more 20 baths for parking. And they don’t even provide a leaflet or a map of the site. It’s really not worth the detour.
Alexandre A — Google review
It's believed that Sao Din Na Noi was created as a result of the shifting of earth's crust during the late Tertiary Period. Geologists estimate these formations, once part of the oceans floor, to be roughly 20,000 years old. Discoveries of stone bangles and ancient axes have been made here...indicating that this area was, also, once inhabited by human beings during the Palaeolithic Age.

Nice place to visit in eary morning hour or the lare evening hour while the weather is not that hot. Great place to capture some mini grand canyon type landscapes. The entrance for a foreign is 100 baht. The same ticket that was purchased at Doi Samer Dao can be used here as well. There were washrooms here.
Randula H — Google review
I paid 150 baht; 20 baht for adult. 100 baht for foreigner, and 30 baht for car parking. The tickets include the entrance fee for Doi Samur Dao camping ground.
Pintip I — Google review
Lots of grand canyon type, some compare it to China's Kunming. Okay to visit if you are already in Nan. An hour and a half drive from Nan city.
Raymond N — Google review
In my point of view, it's natural sand mountain, just small one! Anyone who likes the plain style background can stop by for a visit. In addition, the restroom here contains shower room too. For those who didn't had a shower up at Doi Samer Dao may consider to do so at this place.

Si Satchanalai Historical Park, established as the second center for the Sukhothai Kingdom in 1250, is a must-visit destination. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site that preserves remnants of the Sukhothai Kingdom from the 12th to 14th centuries. The park features remarkable structures such as Wat Si Chum, Wat Maha That, and Wat Si Sawai.
A serene and peaceful historical park to visit. The park is well kept and maintained. I felt like walking through the past then came out feeling proud of our rich history.

Si Satchanalai Historical Park is very beautiful and peaceful. The ancient temples and ruins are well preserved and surrounded by greenery and in a natural setting. It feels less crowded than Sukhothai Historical Park, giving you plenty of time and space to really enjoy the atmosphere.

We had a fabulous morning at this historical park. The price for a foreigner is now 200 baht each. The electric bus costs 60 baht per person.
Deby C — Google review
Yet again two tier pricing, expect as a foreigner for Admission you will pay 10 times the price of a Thai. 20Baht for Thai, 200Baht for foreigner. Apart from the price gouging the venue is well kept the historical Temples are quite a spectacle, November is nice and cool to explore the whole facility, allow four hours to cover most of the grounds. There are guided tours, bike hire or Trams to get around with Tram stops located throughout.

I would like to highly recommend a visit to anyone interested in ancient cities and temple ruins. The historical park is large with many trees, so it wasn't too hot while riding a bike in the park. It has a different feel from Sukhothai Historical Park. This place is a must-visit if you go to the Sukhothai area. However, public transportation may not be convenient.

Far quieter to the main Sukhothai historical park. If you’re on a road, highly suggest you make the journey here. Bike rentals are available for 30baht
Albert S — Google review
Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. This place is like stepping into another time. Ancient temples, quiet tree-lined paths, and barely any crowds—perfect for a relaxing and meaningful walk. There are so many well-preserved ruins, especially Wat Chang Lom and Wat Chedi Jet Thaew. You can rent a bicycle at the entrance and explore the park at your own pace—highly recommended! The area is much quieter than Sukhothai Historical Park, but just as charming. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and some water. And don’t forget your camera—every corner is photo-worthy! If you're into history, culture, or just love peaceful vibes, this place is a must-visit.

"Sapae Yen" is a coffee shop located on a hilltop and is particularly revered by Buddhists who were born in the Year of the Tiger. The shop is home to several sacred relics of Lord Buddha, including his hair and left elbow. Visitors climb up the main stairway and enter through an upper gate before paying respects at "Phra Chao Tun Jai," one of the most sacred Buddha statues in Phrae.
For Buddhist, especially those who are born in the Year of the Tiger, it is a blessing to pay respect to the hair and left elbow relics of the Lord Buddha housed in the gold pagoda. After climbing the main stairway and entering the upper gate, there is one of the most sacred Buddha statute in Phrae known as Phra Chao Tun Jai where Buddhist will pay respects and make their wishes before going into the pagoda area. There are also many interesting Buddha statues surrounding the area around the pagoda and it is worthwhile to walk around and see. One can always find a quiet corner where he/she can meditated and feel the vibes.

Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary (BLES)

Recently, I watched an episode of Dodo Heroes on Discovery Channel showcasing the remarkable work being done at BLES, an ecological park founded by Cath and her husband. The couple's love for elephants and dedication to animal welfare is truly inspiring. BLES offers a sanctuary for rescued elephants where they can live out their lives in peace and freedom. It was heartwarming to see the happy interactions between humans and animals at the park.
My husband and I visited BLES for our anniversary in 2019 and had the most amazing time. Everyone at BLES genuinely loves and cares for not just the elephants but all the animals that are rescued. Not only does Katherine runs BLES, but she cares and provides help for all the animals in the village AND is the best mum to her children. As for reviews stating about not responding to their emails immediately, BLES is very honest about the time committed to caring for the elephants. They are not a huge sanctuary as the larger ones they get compared to, and this should be taken into consideration I 100% support Katherine and BLES.
Tiff P — Google review
A transformative experience. BLES is not just a sanctuary — it’s a place of respect, healing, and true love for elephants. Here, each animal has a name, a story, and the freedom they deserve. It’s impossible not to be moved by the strength of these giants, who carry scars on both their bodies and their memories, yet find peace in every step. The team is incredibly kind, welcoming, and dedicated. Even with the language barrier, I felt completely at home — like I was among friends. If you’re looking for a place where tourism meets purpose, and animal welfare comes first, BLES is the right destination. Eternally grateful for everything I experienced here. A visit that leaves a mark on your soul. 🐘💚 #BLES #AnimalWelfare #ResponsibleTourism

If I could have given a 10 (instead of 5 being the highest) I would. BLES is an amazing organization doing amazing things for the elephants. This is a true sanctuary where the elephants can just be elephants. I felt welcome as soon as I met Katherine and her beautiful family and staff. Right off we went on an elephant walk and found Lotus. She was making a rumbling sound hoping to find her other elephant friends. Once she did, the sound of pure excitement coming from them was so incredible. We would also have lunch delivered to a treehouse where we could watch the elephants below just be elephants. There is so much to rave about I can’t wait to return.

My wife and I went to Thailand for three weeks for our honeymoon, and the four days we spent at Boon Lott's was absolutely the highlight of our trip. If you truly care about the well being of elephants, this is the only ethical option in Thailand. I was overwhelmed with the beauty and majesty of their resident elephants, and the team (mahouts) working with the elephants are so wonderful - they lead and train with love and deep trust, and it is so clear. The family who runs the place are honestly some of the sweetest, kindest, most loving people you will meet. We ate the best food of our trip here. They fed us three solid meals a day, family style, and their love shone through their food. We really felt cared for and part of the family. There are also dogs and cats on site which definitely added to the experience! It is worth every single penny, and you will not want to leave. I really truly hope we can make visiting Boon Lott's a tradition. Thank you so much to everyone at BLES!!!
Julianne V — Google review
My husband and I just visited Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary as part of our honeymoon. We spent 3 nights and 3 days here. It was absolutely AMAZING! The experience to be so close to such big, gorgeous, intelligent creatures was so inspiring. Also, everyone at BLES is SO INCREDIBLY KIND. Note that in general the activities here are a bit physically active. We went on long hikes and it was a bit physically taxing. Though, if you ever did not want to do an activity there was always an option to not participate but honestly they were the best part. The food here was INCREDIBLE. At the sanctuary it is all vegan food. It was probably the best food I have had in thailand. Getting a reservation here was not that hard, really you just need to email Katherine early (we did ours a year in advance) and don't expect a reply right away. There is NO internet access at the sanctuary and most phone carrier signal does not work, so she has to travel to a different place to send emails etc. After you made your reservation you let her know when you are arriving (the sukhothai airport is where we arrived) and she will send someone to pick you up. They keep the groups very small here, up to 6. We had 4 people (my husband and me and another great couple). We had so much fun being with these people. It is a great place to meet like minded people from around the world.
Rachel W — Google review
Friend and I booked a stay on our 1st trip to Thailand. You need to book in advance you cannot show up unannounced. The owner, her family, and all staff are a joy to be around. Kathrine is passionate in what she does, educated in the care of all animals at BLES, and has created a truly magical place. If you're looking for an educational humbling experience while witnessing elephants in their natural state this is the place to go. Not to mention all the amazing vegan food! Highly recommend and hope to be back in the future.

We visited for 3 days with our 3 children (booked several months in advance) and as the kids describe it, it was, "Epic...Ten stars...Awesome!" It was truly an immersive experience, learning about elephants, mahouts, Thai culture and the community. Katherine and her family were so welcoming, as were all the staff at BLES. The food was the some of best vegetarian/vegan food we have had! All our needs were taken care of, and we felt like part of the family. We cannot put into words how enriching the experience was for all of us. Spending time with the beautiful elephants was a very special experience we won't forget. We recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about elephants and seeing them in a safe environment. We hope to be back again!

My husband and I had the best experience at BLES with Katherine and her family. We felt completely at home. It was obvious how passionate everyone at BLES is about elephant welfare. Nestled about 12 kilometers from the heart of Phrae, Phae Muang Phi Forest Park, often referred to as the "Forest City of Ghosts," is a captivating destination steeped in local lore. This enchanting park features an array of unique geological formations, including towering sandstone columns that have been sculpted by years of erosion—some reaching heights of up to 30 meters.
This is an interesting place and it's well maintained. The park staff are friendly too. It doesn't look natural. It looks like an area that has been strip-mined, but if it's 100% real, it's pretty impressive.

Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri is a stunning temple in Phrae Province, Thailand, showcasing exquisite Lanna art and Thai-European architecture. The temple features a large reclining Buddha and a blend of Lanna and Burmese architectural styles, adorned with captivating statues and elements. Despite occasional closures, it's worth visiting for its serene atmosphere and traditional beauty.
Have had this temple in the corner of my eye on a few passes, but this time it was a U-turn and a visit. There are big conditions here, so it took some time, but I didn't see any other people during my visit. This is a magnificent temple, densely packed with impressions, over quite a large area. One of our favorite places to visit when traveling from Mai Sai in the north to Chiang Mai. We've stopped here several times, even once very late at night. The coffee shop is only open until early evening. But you can use the hot springs anytime. The water is very hot. There are boiled eggs you can purchase but also other cafe items from the coffee shop. It's was only ever crowded one time. A tour bus came around noon. Please note there are two of these places on each side of the highway. The one near the temples are very run down. Go to the other one with 91Coffee shop. 这是一个美丽的地方。这里有一家咖啡和茶馆,价格不贵,很适合拍照。Zhè shì yīgè měilì dì dìfāng. Zhè li yǒu yījiā kāfēi hé cháguǎn, jiàgé bù guì, hěn shìhé pāizhào.

Great place maintained by locals. There are various shops if you want to buy something and some nice place to get yourself a simple homemade breakfast with some good coffee. There is a toilet at the back of the place, the toilet is hygienic and there is a charge of 5 Baht to enter. The most fun part is you can buy eggs and put them in a basket and boil them in the hot springs.

It is an interesting phenomenon to see boiling hot water to break up from the ground. Easy to park around on both side of the road. But be careful with the traffic. All kinds of goodies for sale, food and souveniers. You can boil some quail eggs for a buck in the hot water. Take nice pictures and even enjoy the soothing benefits of the hot water on your skin. There is a part where the water can be waded and it's not burning hot anymore. A lot of fun for the whole family.

Right off the road leading to Chiang Rai temples, there’s a cute little hot spring. Steaming in the front right by the sign and there’s a foot spa available by the shops (can dip in your feet for free!) There’s also a deserted mineral bath spa in the back - creepy but cool to walk through!

A nice stop over on the way to Chiang Rai. Foot bath is nice and the hard boiled egg at $20 is very good which they used they got spring water to boil the egg. There is a stall selling delicious braised pork knuckles rice.

We stopped at Mae Kachan Hot Springs during our drive from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, and it turned out to be one of our favorite unscheduled pauses. Located right off the highway in Moo 6, Pha Soet Phatthana Village, the spot is a popular rest stop—complete with cafes, souvenir shops, and stalls selling fresh fruit, snacks, and souvenirs. The highlight is the natural hot spring pools, where boiling water gushes from the ground at around 90°C—hot enough to cook eggs in just a few minutes. We bought a few eggs (chicken and quail) and had fun boiling them right there on the spot. A quirky and memorable experience! While the main hot spring is too hot for dipping, there’s a smaller diverted stream where the temperature is just right for soaking your feet. It felt great to give our tired legs a warm soak after hours on the road. There were even foot-soak setups offered by nearby shops if you wanted to make it a little more indulgent. The facilities were basic but decent. There was no entrance fee, just a small charge for using the restrooms. The area was bustling but still relaxing, with friendly vendors and fellow travelers stopping for a break. It’s not a destination you’ll spend hours at, but as a quick and unique roadside stop, it’s well worth pulling over for. Definitely a fun way to break up the journey!

Like all the other hot springs in the area. Strong sulfur smell. Fun things to do like boil an egg. Clothes are slightly cheaper here.

Very very peaceful place i love it , very beautiful is one of Chiang Rai’s top spiritual destinations. Tucked within a relaxing, lush environment, the centre is named after a famous Buddhist monk in Thailand. It is surrounded by beautiful natural attractions, including a small shimmering lake.

It was a very peaceful place, I liked the atmosphere. You can really relax and meditate here. Or you can read thought-provoking things on the signs by the trees. There are very few people, when we arrived we were completely alone, later of course we meet a few other people, but luckily there really aren't many. The mirrored structure in the woods, with the sound of the wind chimes beside it, is very captivating. Unfortunately the buildings weren't open, so I didn't get to see the exhibition or the Little Prince's House. I'm glad I found this park and recommend it to those who want to find some peace and quiet inside.

The great place to learn inside yourself. This place is a good place of meditative calm in Chiang Rai. This is a really open group to people from all meditation traditions and none, no matter which religions or gods you believe, this place still be a great space to learn, keep yourself be inspired.

Rai Chern Tawan Meditation Center, led by the revered Than W. Wachiramethi, is a haven of tranquility nestled in the lush greenery of Chiang Rai. My visit to this serene retreat left a lasting impression on me, offering a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The moment I arrived, I was struck by the peaceful ambiance that permeates the entire center. Surrounded by verdant landscapes and meticulously maintained gardens, the center offers a perfect environment for meditation, reflection, and inner peace. The air is fresh, and the sound of nature all around creates a deeply calming atmosphere. The facilities are well-organized, with comfortable spaces for meditation and contemplation. The staff and monks are welcoming and provide guidance in a gentle, unobtrusive manner, making it easy for both newcomers and seasoned practitioners to find their rhythm. What stood out to me the most was the deep sense of calm that seemed to envelop the entire area. Whether you’re sitting by a quiet pond, walking through the shaded paths, or participating in a meditation session, the center encourages you to slow down and reconnect with your inner self.

Very nicely designed and constructed. Love the calmness and peaceful atmosphere here. Great variety of food sold on site as well in case you need to grab a bite. Would love to come back to meditate here in the future.

No matter if you come to relax, meditate or just enjoy this place. The scenery is close to the hills and on the lake, and enough trees and lots of nature bring your mind to a mindful stage. You can also visit the art museum, some coffee shops and restaurants. It's easy for nature lovers to stay for some hours here. Buddhists might want to visit the monk to make some merits.

A remarkable complex currently hosting exhibits for the Thailand Bienniale. Amid a tranquil setting and lovely gardens, lie stunning sculpture and architectural/spiritual pavilions, as well as a collection of modern Korean ceramics. Definitely not to be missed as part of the Bienniale experience!

It is one of the most beautiful Temple that i visit in Thailand .I don't know why no one have this Temple on their backet list,it's much better than white or blue Temples. It's amazing Temple, with unique design and build. It's a great place to bring kids or just have a day out with family. I strongly recommend visiting this Temple, you will definitely be satisfied with your visit. Also it's free, but if you want to visit main Temple inside it's 10 bath,if you would like to go for sky walk it's 40 bath and don't forget to bring some money for donations 😉 Enjoy

A very beautiful temple. This place is more like a theme park rather a temple as it is so beautiful with many status of Buddah.

When I entered the temple I was simply not prepared for what I was going to see. Full of large and small temples, observation points, waterfalls, even a jungle full of fairy tale creatures. Lots of Buddha statues of all possible types and even an attraction with wall paintings that glow in the dark. It is mandatory to climb the bridge with a transparent floor to an observation point with a spectacular view of the entire temple with a background of mountains.

Wat Saeng Kaeo Phothiyan is an impressive and colorful Buddhist temple complex located in Mae Suai District, Chiang Rai Province, Northern Thailand. Although not as well known as the famous White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), it has become a popular destination for both locals and visitors seeking a unique cultural and spiritual experience. 🏛️ History and Background The temple was founded in 2006 at the initiative of the respected monk Kruba Ariyachat Ariyajitto, and construction began in 2010. It is dedicated to Kruba Srivichai (1878–1939), a highly revered monk in Northern Thailand. The complex is still under development, but many of its elements are already completed and open to visitors. The temple was hit by a massive fire on the night of June 22, 2024. The fire broke out at around 00:35 and particularly damaged the temple's Viharn (prayer hall), which is known for its rich decoration and artistic details. The extinguishing work lasted until around 03:00, and the damage was estimated at around 100 million baht

Wat Sang Keow is a truly unique and enchanting temple located in northern Thailand. From the moment you arrive, the experience begins just outside the temple grounds. The car park is situated away from the main complex, and you'll notice a lottery stall nearby — likely attracting hopeful punters seeking blessings from the renowned abbot, Kruba Aliyachart, known for his miraculous presence. As you approach the temple, a distinctive symbol catches your eye — the Peacock King, representing the temple’s identity and spiritual essence. Climbing a short flight of stairs, you’re greeted by impressive statues of Phra Sangkachai and Phra Upakut, followed by a towering golden image of Kruba Sivichai. These spiritual figures set the tone for the deeply sacred atmosphere ahead. Entering deeper into the temple grounds, you’ll find yourself wandering through what feels like a mystical garden. It's beautifully designed yet slightly disorienting — some even call it magical. Without following the signs closely, it’s easy to lose your way. But trust your instincts, and you may be fortunate enough to meet the master himself — Kruba Aliyachart, the Peacock King. Meeting him is a calming and powerful experience. His serene presence brings an unexpected sense of peace and spiritual clarity. Wat Sang Keow is truly a hidden gem, blending mystery, culture, and devotion. Due to the abbot’s growing fame, the temple draws many international visitors, and meeting him is not guaranteed. Still, it’s a must-visit for any spiritual seeker in Chiang Rai.

There's a lot of maintenance going on here at the moment but even still: if you venture through the gardens and around the maintenance works this place is still very vast. When we arrived at 9am we were the only ones there which was both amazing and a little spooky :D

Beautiful temple complex with many life- size statues of historical and Buddhist figures with a massive large scale buddah, flanked by golden monks. If you go to change my you should take the day trip to Chiang Rai and Watsangkaew Phothiyan

If I were to make a Top Nine list of wats (temples), I would consider this one! Absolutely beautiful with the statues, buildings, Mountain View, and skywalk. They also have many amulets here. You can easily spend the day here walking around, reflecting, and in meditation. A must see location! #travelthailand

So much development on the mountain- lots of camping domes and coffee places. The road is slightly narrow but not a difficult drive. Fantastic views all along the summit

If you are thinking about doing this on a scooter then don’t. If you don’t have enough qualifications to rent a motorbike then you probably don’t have enough experience to do these roads. Didn’t help there were roadworks at some points throughout the journey which were half the road and really bumpy. The views yes, were amazing but just either get a proper motorbike and go as a tour or get a grab.
