Gardens
Planten un Blomen, which means "Plants and Flowers" in Low German, is a captivating urban park spanning over 100 acres in Hamburg. It features themed gardens such as a rose garden, Mediterranean terraces, and one of Europe's largest Japanese landscaped gardens. Visitors can also explore a tropical greenhouse with otherworldly plants and enjoy free daily fountain shows set to music from jazz to Beethoven between April and September.
This is a must see if you are going to be in Hamburg! It’s great for all ages. Put on your walking shoes and enjoy the sights and wonderful aromas of the flowers and herbs. So many plants to see. I would recommend bringing a lunch/snack and just hang out in one of the many places to sit, relax and enjoy this wonderful space.
Rose T — Google review
A nice symphony of light and music in a beautiful garden/park. Be there at least one hour before the evening show, as it quickly gets crowded in the summer and vacation times. Bring some food and drinks and enjoy a 30 minute show for free.
Troels M — Google review
What a peaceful park in the middle of the city center! It’s easy to reach by public transport. You can walk, run, or sit on the benches while watching the sunset. The atmosphere is calm, with many ponds and lovely birds. People walk their dogs, and it feels very relaxing. I ate my salad here and rested for a while. The botanical garden was temporarily closed, but the park is still beautiful and definitely worth a visit.
Ayşe ( — Google review
Big and great park! Some flaws though; Many of the parts of the park were very worn and there was no water in many of the places designed for water. In all, though, a very nice place! Fantastic "rooms" of plants to discover. I highly recomend a visit when in Hamburg!
Jonas S — Google review
Very lovely park for a walk during a beautiful, warm summer's day. Highly recommend it if you need a little breather from the city and need to see some pretty nature and maybe have an ice cream or so from one of the the nearby stalls.
Marcus M — Google review
Beautiful park with Beautiful landscape. You can find different terrains and multiple varieties of plants and flowers. The water ponds and sitting areas are great. Perfect for small picnic and children friendly. We saw light show which starts at 10pm and runs for 30 mins with different melodies.
Anam F — Google review
What a beautiful park right in the city, very well cared for and tidy. Beautiful rose garden, Japanese and generally lovely planting and displays. Toilets are excellent and clean and they take contactless .
Brian F — Google review
Nice picnic style of visit. Take your mat along so you can sit on the grass and get a good view of the 30 mins show. Do sit as close to the water to hear the announcement and the music while the lights and water jets do their dance.

Hamburg Townhall

Mentioned on
19 lists
City Hall
Sights & Landmarks
The Hamburg Townhall, also known as the Hamburg Rathaus, is a magnificent neo-Renaissance building that serves as the seat of the city's government. Constructed in 1866, it features opulent state rooms and a vaulted hallway. Visitors can take guided tours to admire its beautiful decor and paintings. The building is adorned with 16 sandstone pillars and over 60 portraits of significant figures in Hamburg's history.
The former Hamburg city hall was destroyed by fire in 1842 and was rebuilt more than 40 years later at its current location. The current new city hall was completed in 1897. The city hall is very beautiful. Guided tours of the city hall are well worth taking, as you can enter areas not open to the general public and hear many interesting stories. Currently, Hamburg's mayor's office, as well as the meeting rooms of the parliament and senate, are located in the city hall. In one of the city hall's rooms, there is a large painting depicting the scene when the Speaker led a group of councillors into the new city hall after its completion. At that time, everyone wore neat formal attire. According to the tour guide, that formal attire was handed down through generations, was very heavy and difficult to clean, and is no longer in use. The most beautiful room in the city hall is where the mayor meets with the administrative departments. In front of the doors of the room are two statues of goddesses representing justice and mercy respectively. On the door frame was written in German: GOTT MIT UNS., which means God is with us. Some abbreviations SPQH were seen outside the room. The tour guide explained that this was a reference to the Roman abbreviation SPQR. In Roman times, SPQR represented the Roman Senate and People. We think SPQH probably stands for Senate and People of Hamburg.
Et — Google review
Absolutely do the guided tour. Frau Sabine Bendig led our group in English and it was amazing. Each room is so beautiful and meaningful right from the wallpapers to the busts and paintings. It's classy and rich without being gaudy.
Chandana G — Google review
Beautiful parliament building in the heart of city. Be sure to walk through the side, there is a beach fountain in a courtyard. The construction is incredible and the detail statues and adornments are incredible. You can enter the budding behind the fountain and enjoy the restraint located beneath the building.
Petra P — Google review
A timeless masterpiece Rathaus Hamburg stands like a grand storyteller in the heart of the city — every arch, statue, and corridor whispers history. The exterior took my breath away with its intricate details, and the interior felt serene and majestic, like stepping into another era.
Christina A — Google review
The Hamburg Rathaus is one of the most impressive buildings I’ve seen. Its exterior is breathtaking, full of detailed decorations and bronze statues that reflect the city’s rich history. The facade is lined with figures of emperors, kings, and traditional professions like blacksmiths, tailors, and gardeners, which beautifully connect the city’s governance with everyday life. The tall towers and elegant stonework create a sense of grandeur. It’s a perfect spot for photos, especially when the sunlight highlights the carvings and sculptures. Simply standing in front of it gives you a true feeling of Hamburg’s history and pride
ASSIM H — Google review
I visited the Hamburg Rathaus in 2023 and it is one of the most impressive places in the city if you are into architecture. The building is truly imposing, with a massive façade and fine details that make it stand out even more, catching your eye as soon as you arrive. The central tower is very tall and can be seen from many points in the city center. Right outside the Rathaus on the Rathausmarkt there is a bronze scale model of Hamburg — a great little landmark to check out.
Meggan G — Google review
Nice town hall. Some good photo opportunities and the water fountain outside was well worth a look.

Had alot of asthetic beauty, even a few weddings at the time and easy to access food etc in area. Perfect for anyone to enjoy.

St. Michael's Church

Mentioned on

Evangelical church
Sights & Landmarks
St. Michael's Church, also known as Hauptkirche Sankt Michaelis, is a prominent Baroque Lutheran church in Hamburg. Its 132-meter-tall copper-covered spire makes it a standout landmark in the city. Visitors can ascend the tower, locally referred to as 'Michel,' using stairs or an elevator to enjoy panoramic views of the city and port, especially during extended evening openings.
Nice church, huge, very grand and spectacular. Our timing could have been better, they were having service on Easter so we didn't see much of the inside. But it looked like it was certainly worth experiencing both inside and out. Would have loved to have been able to go up the tower and see the crypt!
Richard — Google review
St. Michael’s Church is a very beautiful and famous place in Hamburg. The building is big and impressive from outside, and inside it looks peaceful and bright. You can also go up to the tower and see a great view of the whole city. It is a nice place to visit for history, architecture, and quiet time.
Kunal — Google review
Very good National Landmark to visit in Berlin because of different reasons. The arquitecture and history are some of the most important facts to learn at this location, but also specially the view! Take the elevator or walk up the tower, it's "only" 500 steps! Once at the top enjoy the incredible views from Hamburg! Very recommendable spot to discover in Hamburg!
Real T — Google review
I would highly recommend visiting St Michael's church as the view from the top of the tower is probably the best in the city! To go up there is a small side building to buy your tickets and any souvenirs you may want, we only got the tower tickets at around €8 each. To get there you have to climb a few sets of stairs before reaching the main elevator to the top. Once on top of the tower you'll have full 360 panoramic views of the city, just beware the bell does still ring up the top and it made my friends and I jump!
Atlas — Google review
St. Michael’s Church is a must-visit in Hamburg! We went up the tower – it’s the highest viewpoint in the city, and the view is absolutely stunning. The entry fee is only 8 euros, which is honestly a bargain for such a breathtaking panorama. There were quite a few people, but the elevator made the climb easy and fast. Totally worth it!
Khusein K — Google review
Beautiful architecture. Absolutely worth the fee to climb the tower, the view is amazing. 555 steps up, with a few exhibits along the way.
Valerie H — Google review
We had a blast at St. Michael's Church today! The view from the tower of Hamburg was incredible. There is an elevator but be sure to either walk up or take the stairs down so you can see the tower clock mechanics! The crypt wasn't great, but seeing CPE Bach's burial spot was awesome, especially for a music lover. 😉 The church itself is gorgeous, and we even got to hear an organ concert with all three main instruments. The acoustics were amazing – like a 5-second reverb! Go on a Saturday morning by 11:30 for the noon concert/service.
Jeff A — Google review
Impressive in scale and beauty. Amazing inside and out, with a very large pipe organ. It must be an amazing experience when that is being played. We were lucky to catch a concert rehearsal, which filled the chamber with beautiful music.

Miniatur Wunderland is a must-visit attraction in Hamburg, featuring the world's largest model train exhibit. The miniature recreations of famous global sites such as Hamburg, Austria, and Scandinavia are incredibly detailed, with animated elements like planes taking off and lights simulating sunset and sunrise. It's a popular tourist spot for visitors of all ages, offering guided tours through its intricate landscapes and bustling cities.
Absolutely amazing experience. One can spend hours here. Of course Kids gonna love it but I I found mostly adults on that day cherishing entire replica of famous cities with excruciating details as a miniature world. One can see and admire all that work gone into planning an execution of this world over the years. One of its kind experience not to be missed. The entry ticket is 20 euros but definitely worth it.
Naman S — Google review
Wonderful experience, details are incredible, as well as the perfect scaling and diversity of scenes presented. 100% positive memory. Being an adult doesn’t mean itself not for you! Maybe ever better than being a kid. The day/night alternation gives it a magical touch. WOW
Leonardo D — Google review
Wooooow! Amazing place with a unique experience that lets you walk through different parts of the globe. I loved how much attention to detail was put into everything, and the design often includes funny little scenarios—like taking a bath with a penguin or the sheep pyramid! It’s incredibly creative, yet the landscapes still feel realistic. The night and day versions of the cities are a very cool twist. Also, all the robotics and technology behind the functioning train system—without any crashes—is mind-blowing. I especially enjoyed getting a behind-the-scenes look at the newest addition. One thing to note: it’s a huge place to explore, so plan your visit accordingly to give yourself enough time to enjoy it without rushing from room to room. It can also get quite busy, so be patient and dedicate a full day if possible. There’s a café and food area if you want to take a break during your visit. Definitely recommend it! I’d love to come back and get even more lost in the details.
Dorottya-Agota S — Google review
Absolutely one of the best attractions in Hamburg — and honestly, one of the most impressive exhibits I’ve ever seen. Miniatur Wunderland is massive and filled with astonishing detail. Most Germanic (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) countries and regions have their own area, complete with moving trains, planes, ships, lights, and tiny human stories happening everywhere you look. You could easily spend 3–4 hours here and still not catch everything. It’s not just for model train fans — it’s for anyone who appreciates creativity, craftsmanship, and a bit of magic. The nighttime lighting effects, airports, and little surprises hidden throughout make it incredibly fun for both kids and adults. It can get crowded, so I recommend booking a time slot early in the morning or later in the evening if you can. There’s a café inside with good snacks and drinks for a quick break between sections. Truly a must-see — whether you’re visiting Hamburg for a day or a week, Miniatur Wunderland is worth every minute.
Micah R — Google review
Fantastic venue. Everything feels grounded and made by people who know what visitors will want to have or need. The exhibition itself is spectacular. Lots of details and stories are told ... Sometimes very hidden. Food is fine. Okay price. Reminded me of IKEA. There could be more washrooms. Also, the regular ticket isn't valid for reentry. That's a bit of a bummer since opening hours are until 1am.
Robert K — Google review
Wanted to see this for years and now I've ticked it iff my bucket list! This is hands down the BEST minature railway and car layout you'll ever see! So much to see, you can easily spend all day here! Don't bring the missus, that will only reduce your fun! Definitely get tickets in advance, they sell out quick!
John W — Google review
Its easy to see why this is fast becoming the top attraction in Hamburg. Its so much fun and that's consistent with everyone whonis wondering about around you. So much detail that ypu definitely need a visit to the bistro to allow your eyes and brain to catch up. Fantastic day out for everyone. Go. You will be talking about it for a while to come.
Lee W — Google review
As a model railway enthusiast, I have been looking forward to coming to Hamburg to visit Miniatur Wunderland and the truth is that it worth it! I was delighted with the visit and I want to congratulate the whole team for all the impressive work that goes into every part of the model! The technique, the operation, the quality of the details, I love everything in general, especially the airport!! I also really enjoyed being able to eat in the Miniatur Wunderland restaurant. I am sure that in the future I will definitely visit this wonderful place again!

I had a fantastic experience walking through the Old Elbtunnel! It only takes about 10 minutes to walk from one side to the other, and the views when you reach the other side are really cool. The tunnel itself has a unique charm. Best of all, it's completely free! Highly recommended for anyone visiting Hamburg.
LISA — Google review
Variety and overcrowd in such a narrow tunnel, and amazingly remained order. We took ship tour instead of strolling along the pier. Thereby we could have an overall idea about the harbor area and came with some great buildings to appreciate. For instance, Elbphilharmonie ! 🙂
Angela M — Google review
Beautiful spot next to the South entrance of the Alter Elb Tunnel, and perfect if you want a panoramic view to the Hamburg waterfront on the North Side. If you’re up for it, you can also go and see the other photo spot next to the “Stage Theater An Der Elbe”, 20 minutes on foot. That will bring you closer to the Elbphilharmonie building.
Per S — Google review
One of the best hidden gems in Hamburg! You can walk here through the historic Elbtunnel or take a short ferry ride from Landungsbrücken. Once there, you get an amazing panoramic view of the harbor, the Elbphilharmonie, and the city skyline. Perfect spot for a quiet break, photos, or just watching ships go by. It’s peaceful and not too touristy. Highly recommend if you’re exploring the harbor area!
Alessia — Google review
Easy to get here via the Elbtunnel (absolutely worth a visit) or a short ferry ride (included in the hvv day ticket). The view is really cool but partially obstructed. It would be ideal if the observation platform could be elevated and widened a bit. Otherwise an amazing view of the Hamburg skyline.
Eduard-Ștefan D — Google review
The best place to the get the most amazing view and experience of the Old Elbe Tunnel. German technology at its beautiful best since 1911. Free entry. Great concept for walking and cycling incorporated.

Or was a unique experience walking 450meters under the sea level in the tunnel originally constructed in 1911😍. Going up and down in such huge lifts is cool😇. The view of the port on Elbe on the other side of the tunnel is just wow. 😘
Bhavya L — Google review

The Port of Hamburg, the largest container port in Germany and one of the world's biggest, is strategically located on the river Elbe. It serves as a crucial link between Eastern and Central Europe, offering safe docking for various vessels including containerships, oil tankers, and cruise ships. A visit to Hamburg would be incomplete without exploring this bustling harbor area or taking a boat tour to get an up-close view of its operations.
I took a boat tour of the Port of Hamburg and it was a fascinating experience. I saw giant cargo ships, observed the loading and unloading operations. Overall, I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in seeing the Port of Hamburg up close.

there was a festival at the day I arrived, so it was really crowded, full of people everywhere, but after that it was so peaceful there, the air was fresh and the water was clean, it was just so nice to sit there and enjoy the sunshine, both day and night views were so beautiful!! Hamburg is definitely one of my favorite places in Europe!

The port is just huge! We took a tour on a boat for 20€ in order to admire the majesty of the cranes and the huge ships parked on the deck being loaded by containers. There are so many things to see but you need a guide to get the full experience

Seeing water flow around is satisfying and very beautiful, Hamburg was such a good experience. Go to the elbphilharmonie and watch the beautiful view of the port of Hamburg and entrance is free, if you have kids you can use the lift, if you boat trip at night is a bonus and costs around 20€, then a bus trip during the day also costed around 18€ for 2 hours and I must say everything was worth it

Not what I had oringnally thought it would be. But our guide Marco was very informative, and I learnt so much more than I expected. To remember and honour the past to ensure we don't repeat the mistakes of the past.

2025.02.15: free to enter, half an hour away from Hamburg, by car. The area is huge, if you're planning to go through in detail and also read everything you'll need multiple hours to do that. The place has a special atmosphere where you can really feel the weight of the happenings of the past. Worth visiting.
Bálint K — Google review
I spent 5 to 6 hours here , totally worth the commuting to this memorial. Even on a rainy day, it was worth it, it actually gave a deeper experience. Very wide big place. Advise hearing the audios of testimonies and take some time for reading to emerge into it. Altought peaceful, heavy.
Celia M — Google review
Very informative and eye opening experience. The premise is spread over a very big area. So be prepared to walk a lot in the open. Unfortunately we visited on a rainy day, so couldn't explore much of the ground. But exhibition is very informative with lots of original photos and documents. Entry and exhibition are free.
Shruti P — Google review
It's hard to rate a place so full of sad memories and dark times. But the place itself is quiet, somber, and very respectful of its history. The displays are thoughtful and deep. I was particularly moved by the albums that were about a single person. When you read them and realize that over 100,000 passed thru the camp, it's an overwhelming moment.
Kevin D — Google review
This concentration camp became a prison after WWII, before becoming an exhibition centre. Therefore, there aren't many original features of the camp which remain. There is a lot of learning material available in the exhibition space, with photos and information. You have to pick up separate cards at each exhibit point if you want to read in English French or Polish. The reception desk has a map which suggests a one hour or two hour route of the camp.
Sujit R — Google review
Free to visit. You can still feel the menacing atmosphere. Many old buildings still intact and the exhibitions were interesting with lots of old stuff from the camps.
Ville H — Google review
Recommended if you want to know more details about the World War 2 and the life of prisoners in this concentration camp. We can only imagine the effect that it left on so many families.

It has a very interesting design. Like rural areas. It gives you a sincere feeling of being among mud houses where people are more happy 😊 is that the reality here? I don’t know. Just walked around the town it looked beautiful. Lovely red brick houses.
Ishaq A — Google review
I really loved the Architecture of this beautiful train station. As it looks a small station but it has good connections with the bigger German cities. I wish I could had more time to explore this station. In future I’ll definitely like to explore this beautiful building which you can see in the photos. Best, Adeel

Beautiful Bahnof 😍 Its a Royal railway station at Uelzen, beautiful architecture its an environmental culturally oriented! And for its beauty its one of the town’s most popular tourist attraction! Have wc, db service store, food stalls, everything as every bahnhof 🙌🏻

Hundertwasser's last work. Enjoy the miracle in real life, don’t hesitate to wait a little bit and be alone in every little corner possible. It’s living art in the real life, people are living and moving around. it’s natural, don’t be surprised. For us, it was worth waiting for another train to continue our journey.

Beautiful train station with a clear Hundertwasser touch. Certainly makes the commute through the station special.

Loved the memorial. The exhibition is more extensive than we thought. We spent a solid two hours reviewing the history and personal stories. Very well done.

Inevitably a very thought provoking experience. A very detailed museum with photos, video artefacts etc. Outside it was not fully clear where to go, take the free map. Nice to see Anne Frank's memorial, her story has moved me for over 50 years
William H — Google review
Free to enter and walk around, the scale of the area is massive and you can easily spend 2-3 hours walking around. You don't truly understand the scale of the camp until you walk the grounds. Although none of the original building stand there are plenty of maps explaining certain areas dotted around the grounds. The POW cemetery is separate from the camp, roughly a 5 min walk and is now connected via a sand path that crosses the training area. All signs have an English translation and the exhibits in the museum also have English translations. There is a cafe and library on site, but I didn't visit.

The history in this memorial was extremely tough to see but important to know so the past will never be repeated

Poignant and moving. Very well narrated in the stories and pictures in the museum which is new. Camp site tells the story well although it is only the foundation now as it was destroyed at the liberation due to disease concerns.

Serengeti Park Hodenhagen is a fantastic destination that combines the thrill of an amusement park with the wonder of a safari experience. This unique animal park and holiday resort features free-roaming wildlife, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace in their vehicles. The park is well-organized and clean, making it easy for families to navigate while enjoying both animal encounters and exhilarating rides suitable for all ages.
One of a kind zoo. Safari in our own car is something very convenient for families and with that we were able to experience the animals in very close proximity. Animals looked well fed and in good shape unlike other zoos i have visited. There are also various free rides in the park both for kids and adults. Various food stalls and also WC were available throughout the park and very well maintained. Staff were also very friendly and helpful. Definitely a must visit place and it was very well spent day out for us 😊

Serengeti Park Hodenhagen absolutely exceeded our expectations! We had an amazing time exploring the self drive safari. It's incredibly well organized and gives you a rare chance to see exotic animals up close from the comfort of your own car. From giraffes walking past our windows to rhinos grazing nearby, the whole experience felt like a mini African adventure right in Germany. What impressed us the most was how smoothly everything ran. Entry was well coordinated, the drive-through routes were clearly marked, and there were friendly staff around to guide and assist if needed. The animals appeared healthy and well cared for, with plenty of space to roam. But the fun doesn’t stop there. The amusement park section was a fantastic surprise. There’s a great mix of rides and attractions for both kids and adults. The park is clean, spacious, and offers a lot of variety to fill the entire day. Overall, it’s 100% worth the visit, especially for families or anyone looking to do something unique over the weekend. We left with so many great memories and can’t wait to come back again. Highly recommend!

We went for the Halloween special and we really enjoyed it. It wasn't too busy, and not too scary. We were able to enjoy all the rides without a wait on most occasions. Unfortunately, both rollercoasters were not operating, I dont know if this is normal for the winter months. We stayed in a safari comfort lodge, which was clean and perfect for the three of us. It was quite small, but we were only in there to sleep. The accommodation is immediately next to the park and restaurant. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet which was included in our package. We didn't have time to experience the safari park this visit. We will definitely be returning next year.

An interesting park with a lot of different animals. My recommendation is to go through the park in your own car instead of the bus, as it is really safe and better for seeing the animals. Touring by car takes about 2–3 hours, after which you can visit the amusement park within the same area and spend another 3–4 hours having fun—rides, winning teddy bears by throwing into baskets, food available around. There is also a place where you can feed and pet goats, sheep, and llamas, which is truly wonderful for animal lovers. Overall, a very nice experience and recommended.

It is a really great place for a whole day family trip! The safari part is incredible, we were on our own car and haven't regretted it. You can see animals really close, they have plenty of space and look really healthy. And we loved the amusement park! Surprisingly there were almost no ques, we didn't have to wait more that 5 mins for a ride. Top place, highly recommend!

One of the best Safari park in northern Europe ! Very large, organised, clean and must visit. The rides are also a bonus and included, if you want to cover both I recommend to start early spend 09.30 to 12.30 at the safari, have lunch and spend rest of the day at the rides. The rides are for all age groups and parking facility is quite good, so can easily walk around. There is also an indoor play area for younger kids. Overall can easily spend a full day with family having fun and good memories !

We had booked the Tongasoa lodges. What they don't tell you is there is a hard deadline for check in. The reception closes at 7pm and they were available until 8pm for late check in. The keys and the room no. information are all provided only at the reception, if you come late, we aren't sure where you will need to spend the night. We were very lucky to have caught them just when they were locking up and they were kind enough to help us with our checkins after their work hours. Apart from that everything else was really nice. They rooms were nice and clean, the beds were comfortable and all amenities were functional. The breakfast the next day at Manyara restaurant was just fine. If you are a vegetarian, you will be able to get sandwich and cereals and for vegan probably just fruits and salad vegetables. Safari the next day was really fun, we went with our own cars. The animals were very close and approached the cars. I thought I read you shouldn't feed the animals, but some of the cars in front of us were feeding apples, bananas and carrots and nobody stopped them. The amusement park was also fun, it came with the safari tickets, we didn't need to pay extra.

Celle Castle, originally built in 1292, is a Renaissance castle with medieval origins and is a must-see attraction in the city. The quadrangular building features immaculately preserved Baroque-style rooms and stunning Renaissance architecture. It also houses the oldest Baroque theater in Europe and a highly decorated chapel. Although guided tours were not available during the visit due to Covid restrictions, visitors can still admire the castle's beauty and history.
We didn't go in but sat in the gardens in front of the castle. It's nicely situated in the center of town. There was a vintage car fair when we were there and the atmosphere was really nice.

The castle impresses with its beautiful Renaissance architecture and well-maintained interiors. Inside, the museum offers a detailed look at regional history with modern exhibition techniques and clear descriptions. Interesting fact: During World War II, Celler Schloss was used as a refuge for artworks from major museums to protect them from bombings, adding a unique historical layer to its story.

Brunswick Cathedral, also known as St. Blasius Cathedral, is a remarkable 12th-century Romanesque architectural gem located in Braunschweig, Germany. Founded by Henry the Lion in 1173 and serving as his final resting place, the cathedral boasts distinctive twin towers and holds significant historical importance in the region's religious and cultural heritage.

Braunschweig Cathedral is a truly extraordinary place that left a profound impact on me. From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported to a bygone era, overwhelmed by the weight of history that permeates every corner of this majestic structure. The cathedral's architecture is a testament to human creativity and skill. Its soaring spires and intricate details are a sight to behold. The craftsmanship on display is nothing short of remarkable, with each delicate carving and carefully placed stone revealing the dedication and talent of the artisans who brought this architectural masterpiece to life. Every turn brought new surprises, and I found myself lost in admiration, marveling at the sheer grandeur of it all. However, the cathedral's beauty extends far beyond its physical appearance. Its walls reverberate with stories of centuries past, and the sense of timelessness is palpable. It has witnessed historical events, joyous celebrations, and solemn moments of reflection. As I learned about its rich history, I couldn't help but feel a deep reverence for the generations that came before us and the cultural heritage they left behind. Inside the cathedral, I encountered a collection of special sculptures that added an extra layer of fascination. These sculptures, meticulously crafted with exquisite detail, seemed to possess a life of their own. Their expressive forms and captivating presence drew me in, and I was captivated by the stories they told. Each one was a testament to the artistic prowess of the past, reminding me of the power of human creativity and the ability to transform stone into something truly extraordinary. In conclusion, Braunschweig Cathedral is more than just a building. It is a gateway to the past, an architectural wonder, and a repository of history and art. Visiting this remarkable cathedral is an immersive experience that will transport you to ancient times and leave you with a deep appreciation for the enduring legacy of our ancestors. Prepare to be enchanted by its timeless beauty, to marvel at its architectural splendor, and to be moved by the stories it silently whispers.

A long overdue piece , I visited this absolutely beautiful cathedral in April, it was a cloudy morning and I was incidentally in time for Ms.Monika's famed church tour (it was around 11 am ) , and boy was i was amazed. She breathed and lived the cathedral's rich history, dark times and the subsequent restoration. Her impeccable attention to detail and careful explanation bought the cathedral to life. A proficient bi -lingual (German and English) , she did an outstanding job to weave the narrative of the journey of the cathedral from past to present. The tour itself is about an hour and free , the cathedral has stood the test of time and is a testament to faith, history and changing times of the surrounding regions. The architecture (gothic- renaissance) is a splendid remainder of the rich history and cultural heritage of the city itself. The staff and local agencies involved are doing a wonderful job of preserving this splendid piece of architecture, if Braunschweig is not on your radar, give it a try, gems like these won't dissapoint you.

Brunswick Palace, also known as Braunschweiger Schloss or Braunschweiger Residenzschloss, has a rich history dating back to the 18th century when it served as the residence for the Dukes of Brunswick. Despite facing destruction and demolition over the years, it was rebuilt in 2007 and now houses a museum and rooftop terrace. The palace stands as a grand monument in Brunswick's schlossplatz and is admired for its stunning architecture.
It was a wonderful visit, as it is located in the city center, and it was the residence of the dukes from 1753 to November 8, 1918.. Within it is the Schloss commercial complex, which contains a wide range of shops such as clothing, food, restaurants, electronics, cosmetics, and perfumes... It is wonderful. If you visit the city of Braunschweig, do not forget to go there and take souvenir photos

Stunning City Palace with a remarkable history. The old home of the Dukes of Braunschweig, the last of whom abdicated in 1918, the Schloss was destroyed twice, first by fire and then of course in the bombing raids of the Second World War. Against massive protests it was demolished in the 1960s and finally rebuilt in the 2000s to cover a shopping mall. You can easily spot the parts that came from the original Schloss. The architecture is beautiful and the site is in the centre of the city so absolutely a must visit when in Braunschweig. There’s a small museum in the left hand wing of the palace that is free, as well as the lifts to see the Quadriga at the very top that’s also free for the time being. The entrance is just to the right of the main entrance.

In Brunswick's schlossplatz stands the stunning building known as Brunswick Palace. When I passed by this majestic monument on the route to Gaussberg Park, I must admit that it was awe-inspiring. Only when I travel to the UK do I see monuments like this. According to what I was told, this palace was constructed sometime in the 18th century and underwent a number of renovations over its existence. I have heard that it once served as a residence for the Brunswick dukes in the 18th century. Wonderful to pass past this building.

St. Michael's Church, located in Hildesheim, Germany, is a remarkable example of 11th-century Romanesque architecture and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The church is renowned for its exquisite bronze doors crafted by Bishop Bernward and features a painted wood ceiling depicting the genealogy of Christ. The interior is bathed in natural light from all angles, enhancing the beauty of the structure.
Even if you're not Christian or not religious at all, you can't help but be in awe of the history places like these hold. And even more, of the architects and especially the workers who have created these buildings without modern technology. And it's still here. The city of Hildesheim luckily left some space around it, so that you can really enjoy and appreciate it in all it's beauty. Highly recommended if this is what you're interested in.

From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt a genuine sense of welcome and community. The atmosphere is both peaceful and uplifting, making it a place where anyone can feel at home. The worship is heartfelt and sincere, blending tradition with a sense of relevance that speaks to all generations. Whether you're seeking a church home or just visiting, this congregation offers a meaningful experience that truly reflects the spirit of Christian fellowship.

The Imperial Palace of Goslar is a remarkable 11th-century royal complex that served as the residence for German emperors during the Holy Roman Empire. The World Heritage Rammelsberg ore mines, located in Goslar, is a significant attraction with a history dating back over 1000 years. The site was declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 1992. Visitors can explore the museum housed within the former silver mine, featuring exhibits on history and geology. Guided tours of the 18th-century shafts offer an immersive experience into the mining industry's past.
I had the train tour and the museum. The tour was just in German, but was done in a majestic way. The train is obviously the focal experience of the tour, but also how the life was underground and the tools used is explained wonderfully (also without knowing the language:)). The museum is in 3 buildings, the storage with the history is the main part, and the other 2 is more about the real machines. They all have English explanations.
Marco G — Google review
I took the train/ mine option and greatly enjoyed the ride and temperature change (it was hot outside). Although the tour was in German I was able to infer as it is a very visual and interactive tour. The tour guide was really good. Hard to believe what these workers had to go through to earn a living. Free parking nearby. Great tour,
D M — Google review
An amazing experience I would highly recommend! It's rare to get to walk in the shoes and take the same mine train the miners took back in the day, deep into the depths of this mine and UNESCO World Heritage site. The rest of the museum and exhibitions are also interesting but the mine rail tour is a must!
Aaron R — Google review
Exiting tour of the mines. Good museum part, but unfortunately most of it is in German.
Søren A — Google review
Very impressive! It was for me the first time to visit a mine like this, it feels you go back in time! The groups weren't that big, so you could see a lot of the mine. It was quite cold, so wear warm clothes. The train underground was an amazing experience!
Maud L — Google review
Very deceiving for such an emblematic place. It is still a quite impressive place full of history which is nice to see. I expected more... First of all, there is no tour in English. For a UNESCO world heritage site, you will expect at least one tour in English. For the museum part, it is interesting but everything is disorganised and it is not appealing. Some parts are only in German. I hope one day, this place would be made more accessible for non-german speakers.

I recently visited the Rammelsberg Ore Mines with my husband and had an incredible experience. We took the guided tour in English, called the Röder Stollen, led by Mr. Christian Etzrodt. He was super friendly and humorous, making the entire journey interesting and engaging. I really appreciate him going out of the way to add fun to the tour. It was an amazing and adventurous experience, and I highly recommend his tour. The reception staff were also very friendly and helpful (she helped us choose the appropriate tour), as was the lovely lady at the shop. Overall, it was a fantastic visit! We really enjoyed the experience. Oh, yes! Make sure to wear appropriate clothing and shoes. You would need to walk a lot and climb steep steps. Would not recommend this tour to people with claustrophobia, nyctophobia, panic disorder, breathing issues, pregnancy, etc. It is colder and dark and might be a bit slippery. P.S. I personally give bonus points for the "Stimmungsring" at the shop, haha

Gustav Adolf Stave Church

Mentioned on

Evangelical church
Sights & Landmarks
Gustav Adolf Stave Church, located in the old spa resort of Hahnenklee, is a remarkable medieval-style wooden church dating back to 1908. This Nordic-style stave church was constructed from spruce trunks and boasts elaborate carvings, an impressive organ, and a unique four-octave carillon. The interior is as magnificent as its breathtaking exterior, offering visitors a peaceful and beautiful place to explore.
Really unusual to see one of these outside of Norway. Built on the Norwegian style, it's well worth a visit to admire the craftsmanship, and you won't see another unless you go to Norway. It only cost euros to get in, and that's well worth it too. Take your time inside, and soak up the atmosphere...
John B — Google review
I went there by taking M830 from Goslar Hbf. There is only one or two time each hour, and need to check the time in order not to wait for a long time. The church is very beautiful and attractive. Very impressive. It’s worth visiting. There is a hotel near the church is also quite beautiful.
Shirley X — Google review
This little church is seriously stunning! If you're into checking out the impressive woodworking skills that showcase the local architectural style, you're in for a treat. The folks running the place might not have been the friendliest, but we still had a good time during our quick visit.

Interesting church, not a style one would expect in Germany.

Very beautiful church. The unique thing about this church that's it is made of wood. If you came here you should definitely go inside. The enter price is 2 euro, which is really affordable. Inside it's beautiful as well. Just sit in the church for a while, it's a very peaceful place

A beautifully preserved wooden church with unique Nordic architecture, full of charm and history. The peaceful surroundings make it a perfect spot to pause and admire the craftsmanship.

Absolutely gorgeous and very interesting history of this church. Entry is 2€ - if you like the organ you can book a tour as well. In case the main gate is closed walk up and around to the right to find the entrance. There is parking available close by.

It was so much fun to see how it looks like an automobile and a motorcycle that were manufactured 1800 or more? 1920s to 2000🔥🥰🤩🥳 I guess the progress rapidly started at 2000🤪
Maga M — Google review
unbelievable! We didn‘t expect too much before stepping in, actually we only needed some place to escape from the rain. Holly molly, we were so much impressed by this museum. From Benz 1, to Delorean „Back to the future“ and to Bugatti Chiron, it’s just fantastic! A brief history of the car industry. It’s definitely worth visiting!
Anton S — Google review
Fantastic place to visit, especially as an English speaker. Staff are very friendly and the exhibits are well described and very interesting! Great price for the exhibition size and time it takes to get around. I'd recommend this for any car/bike lover.
Connor F — Google review
On a motorbike tour through Europe, we purposely aimed for this museum because of the bikes. The collection is massive, but what we didn't appreciate was that it is spread acorss multiple sites in the same town - spread out across the space of a mile or so (probably our mistake). We went to the main venue and enjoyed the exhibits, but these were a mix of cars and bikes. Only at the end did we find that the bike museum was a mile away and that we had to pay separately for admission to that venue. If we had known this, we would have gone straight to the bike venue, and saved some money. By the time we got to the bike venue to explore, we were already running behind schedule and were tired, so couldn't give the place the attention it deserved. Overall, the collection was huge, and comprehensive. I'd visit again, but pick the venue more carefully next time.

Great experience for "engine" lovers or those who wanna know more about the engine evolution, about cars, motorcycles and their trands throughout the history. Spectacular life scenes that outline the use of specific vehicles at the time of their grandiose and lots of many other interesting and beautiful things of the past.

OMG!!! Five stars is not enough. . Was the event of the oldtimer car rally. What a well organized event. It was the best car event for me since I have come to Deutschland. The staff was friendly and helpful the Facility was 10 out of 10!! I will go again just to spend time in the museum. Time was a bit short but gives me all the more reason to go back! A MUST DO!! The place is well kept, with a nice piece of wall art outside in theme with the car subject . The main building is packed full of all the items that made history in the locomotion area, 6 floors! Please allow many hours to this visit, or you Won' t have time for the special features available on the premises, as it happened to us! My 3 men were so taken by the stuff and the exhibition that 3 hours passed quickly, and were not enough! Pity that not all info is in english too, but there is enough to understand the period they are talking about..Restaurant is good, with friendly, english speaking personnel, and a refined industrial mood.

Amazing castle and church built in the 8th century! No wonder it is a UNESCO world heritage site. Highly recommended!

That was a truly great experience. We had a chance to have an open guided tour around the church and the adjacent palace. The Westwerk (the oldest from the time of king Carl the Great) is really unique. Unfortunately the abbey was subject to state capture in 1803, but luckily it's again in private hands and flourishing. Great garden with masses of flowers in the "backyard"

Victor and Alexandra are very helpful and kind owners of the castle. In difficult times, they received refugees from Ukraine. We lived in better conditions. Hilltop castle, now in ruins, with accessible tower for sweeping views, with occasional festivals.
A lovely castle ruins. No one was there - we seemed to be totally alone. Excellent value for money. It was cool on a very hot day. Lots to discover. Excellent. Quite a hot walk up to the castle - but well worth it.

The guide gentleman is very helpful and has senses of humor. He guided us through the past up to dates with many interesting stories. We enjoyed the visit a lot. Hints: you can also rent the whole castle for your own event with affordable prices.
Phuong E — Google review
Verry beautyfull. You could see a lot more then i expected from the outside. Especcialy for the small price of 3,50 per person it was a verry nice experience!
Mirthe E — Google review
Beautiful, spectacular, breathtaking and thought provoking are just a few superlatives that come to mind. If you want a fairytale castle/ruin you need yo visit the Hanstein, placed on the old border of the once East and West German divide, this separates Hessen and Turing. This can be accessed via bike, by foot or even driving and either way is rich and rewarding. The views are something else and that's before your climb the tower, which I would highly recommend doing! The whole visit is an exploration and highly exciting. We went on a quiet afternoon, off season so much was closed, however that's how we like it. The Hanstein is surrounded and made of history, so much depth and so much to be learnt and discovered! Go see this!

Very interesting vist . Well worth the 3.50€ per person entrance fee. WC free Parking free.
REDTT59 — Google review
Great view from the tower. Well worth the entry fee... From the parking lot it just looks like an old pile of stones but there is much more to it. You can learn how people lived hunderts of years ago, climb thru the narrow tower to the top or just sit in the sun in the grass. Awesome!

Amazing Park with Castle and lots of walking/hiking paths. You could easily spend days here and still not get tired of it. Unfortunately it seems like the day we went they did not have the water on at the Herkules statue. Shame because otherwise it would have been even more beautiful.

Absolutely stunning. A lot of walking but there is a shuttle bus from Hercules to the Schloss. A lot of beautiful statues. Allow a good chunk of the day to visit and best on a dry day.
Vicci J — Google review
Marvelous piece of man made wonder. Gigantic, rusty and majestic. Nice to trek with the family and have excellent opportunity to explore the nature. From HBF, you can take tram 4 to wilhelmspark and from there either ride with bus line 23 untill Herkules or trek the 3 odd kilometers. Also there are parking opportunities near wilhelmspark tram station but it's filled quickly on Wasserspiel days (Sundays, Wednesdays and public holidays in summer). Worth and recommended.
Arun A — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous park, but be prepared to hike! Walk from the info center to the Hercules statue was about 3 hours one way. The water attractions get filled on Wednesday Friday and Sunday, so try to be at the Hercules statue around 2.

Begin your day with a visit to Wilhelmshöhe Palace, located in Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe. The park is home to the iconic Hercules Monument, the Castle Löwenburg, and the neoclassical-style palace itself. Inside the palace, you can explore a remarkable collection of Dutch, Italian, and Spanish paintings.
A nice castle in a wonderful setting. The park with its other monuments is UNESCO-listed and a must-visit. The castle hosts a nice selection of paintings (Rembrandt, Tizian, Dürer, you name it). Don't simply pass Kassel when traveling in Germany, it's a hidden treasure that not too many know about.

Such an amazing castle with beautiful views. The path leading up to the tower is a moderate hike with a lot of stairs to climb but the view from top is worth the hard work.
Saurav G — Google review
The view is amazing. It's a good walk, so bring water with you. It was raining and foggy, but it was still worth it. They have some light shows at night, so I recommend going later.
Barbara B — Google review
The museum is good enough to enjoy the stories of the Greeks. However, it has no ancient monuments as it contains prototypes for statues, vases and temples. However, It contains some nice art work and it is the only place in Kassel to buy souvenirs as postcards and magnets 🧲 😀. A bit expensive souvenirs, but it's okay..

Hercules is a monumental complex located at the highest point of Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, featuring a towering copper statue of the Greek demigod Hercules. The surrounding area offers various dining options and cultural experiences, including street art in the Schillerviertel and remnants of documenta exhibitions. Visitors can also explore Grimmwelt, an enchanting museum dedicated to the Grimm brothers, before enjoying a stroll through vineyard terraces.
Hercules Kassel – A Great Family Spot! A wonderful place to spend the day with family and kids. There’s lots of walking involved, so wear comfy shoes, but the scenery makes it worth it! It’s peaceful and perfect for a relaxing Sunday getaway. Some areas could use a bit of maintenance, but it didn’t take away from the experience. Overall, a beautiful place to enjoy nature and history at your own pace.
Aswarth S — Google review
The Hercules monument in Kassel is absolutely breathtaking and truly one of Germany’s most impressive landmarks. Standing high above the city in the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, the sheer size and presence of the statue and the pyramid it rests on is awe-inspiring. The panoramic views over Kassel and the surrounding hills are worth the trip alone. What makes the experience even more special is the unique water feature system – when the cascades are running, you can watch the water rush down step by step through the entire park, ending in a dramatic fountain. It’s a spectacular show of Baroque engineering that still feels magical today. The walk up can be a bit demanding, but the combination of nature, history, and architecture makes it unforgettable. Whether you come for the view, the history, or simply to enjoy the peaceful park, the Hercules monument is a must-see highlight of Kassel.

Had a wonderful time visiting Hercules in Germany. The architecture and history are truly captivating. Surrounded by serene nature, the views are breathtaking. A pleasant experience I’d happily relive again.
Raj K — Google review
Beautiful place...as everyone knows it has 500 steps...that you have to climb slowly because you arrive out of breath...you can have a picnic at the bottom...but I went in the summer and the castle was horrible. And it's under renovation. Don't go inside the castle to go up and down for at least two hours while you walk around. If you have more time, even better. The fountains do not have water like in the videos for these dates and the heat was 33 degrees....
Paula H — Google review
The waterfalls and fountains are operated on Wednesdays and Sundays on the afternoon. It’s a wonderful and quite unique spectacle being a UNESCO cultural site. To follow the path of the 5 stations you have to walk over 2 Km, mainly downhill.
Ricardo S — Google review
Stunning views! Came the first week of November (so naturally the fountains/water were not running), but got some beautiful autumn colours and some blue sky. There is no fee to wander around the monument. I believe there's a museum there, which costs money. Unclear on if anyone is allowed to climb further up the monument (able to walk around the base at the top of the stairs), but there were locked gates blocking off when I went (around 1500h on a Monday). Helpful hint, I took the bus to the Herkules monument and then walked down through the park. It's a lot of stairs to walk up to the top, but really enjoyable walking downhill.
N M — Google review
Very bombastic venue, however it is being repaired and not a nice visit ( as of Nov 2035). I wouldn't pay the €8 to go up, unless you wish a wonderful view only, the the construction is rather hideous really. The cascade is worth a walk up and down. Wear good footwear; 535 steps. You can access the staircase cascade free. Chech the timings as the water is only switched on during the summer months, around 14:30hrs. Still worth a visit.

The Dom zu Fulda is a stunning cathedral with impressive architecture and a Baroque facade topped by a dome. Built in 1712, this former abbey church also boasts a crypt that serves as the final resting place of St. Boniface. It's an excellent tourist destination, particularly during summer, and makes for an enjoyable day trip in the beautiful city of Fulda.
Fulda Cathedral (German: Fuldaer Dom, also Sankt Salvator)[1] is the former abbey church of Fulda Abbey and the burial place of Saint Boniface. Since 1752 it has also been the cathedral of the Diocese of Fulda, of which the Prince-Abbots of Fulda were created bishops. The abbey was dissolved in 1802 but the diocese and its cathedral have continued. The dedication is to Christ the Saviour (Latin: Salvator). The cathedral constitutes the high point of the Baroque district of Fulda, and is a symbol of the town.
