Finnlines Vuosaari

Ferry service
Transportation
Ferries
Loved the finnlines cruise. Starting from checkin to check out everything is well organized. Good cabins and restaurants inside the cruise to enjoy meals
Shweta S — Google review
While the check-in service worked very well, the poor marks are actually motivated by the lack of cleanliness of the boat in general and the cabins particularly. We are travelling with a dog and there is a premium charge for this which I suppose should translate in some extra cleaning service. While it is still acceptable for the passage not to be 100%, a customer can expect to find a clean cabin ... Ours was still having a strong dog smell, the floor was sticky, the shower cabin had still previous dog spoor on the floor, there was even a used ear cotton bud on the floor ... glasses in the cabins are missing ... The ferry services are expensive enough for Finnlines to provide its customers a hygienic hospitality. We travel at least once a year and this year saw a deterioration in comparison with previous years. Time to do something about it I think 🤔.

Great crew at the office for tickets and on board the ferry. Large rooms with bathrooms and beds, Sauna, Jacuzzi, Internet, Gym, Library, Shops, Excellent food and alcohol. I really recommend !!! 👍👍👍👌👌👌
GTPL 7 — Google review
Be prepared that they will shave you heavy - you would need to pay for even water (hot) on board. Air is yet for free.
Leonid E — Google review
Terrible service. Took a booking and then canceled a ticket, even they new in advance it will be no sailing, because they planned ship maintenance on that day. No compensation for hotels,no even a cabin upgrade for inconvenience.
Andrius Z — Google review
Easy to access, waiting can be a bit tedious but very efficient service when boarding starts.

Lovely art gallery and shop. Nice looking cafe, this time didn't buy anything. I went to the brewery/ locan goods shop. The road was really narrow but the view was quite spectacular to the sea. Saddly didn't take any pic from it. It was worth of the drive.
Maria K — Google review
It’s a cool drive there. Be aware that the road is really narrow. On your way out you can take the other way out from there also. The parking can be a tad crowded on the weekends.
Aix C — Google review
Very nice art gallery featuring all types of mediums. Interesting store and what looked like a good cafe all within the gallery. The drive there definitely takes you on backroads through beautiful lakefront landscapes that we would not have seen otherwise.
Pam G — Google review
Well, the art center was nice. Also in a beautiful location. However, it's a pretty commercial place. Lots of cars on the road. The municipality of Gumbostrand has forgotten about road maintenance. The road there was in terrible condition with gravel pits.
Tuija Y — Google review
Excellent place! We loved every part of it. Very beautiful exhibition and nice design shop. Exhibition is free of charge. Also has a good restaurant. Highly recommend!
Oksana L — Google review
Nice place, with great art and a small shop. The restaurant is very nice as well but slow and when ordering, they tend to forget to mention how long of a queue there is. We waited for 50 minutes for our food.
Matti — Google review
Great place to drop by to escape the summer heat. Fully air-conditioned with lots of things to see and buy. Clean, spacious bathrooms.

Halosenniemi

Museum
Art museum
Lovely artist home. Extremely well taken care of and were greeted by very friendly staff. We were also able to pick and take home nearby wildflowers
Hannah G — Google review
A stunning location and a truly wonderful wooden house. The view to the lake is just fantastic. Very disappointed though to find that inside the house they did not have many works of Halonen on display but instead lots of paintings and works from other Finnish artists painted whilst they had been in France. I visited hoping to specifically see and learn about the person who had lived in the house. I am not sure if I would have wished to pay the rather expensive entrance fee to see works from artists who are already on display in large museums in Helsinki.
Jussi T — Google review
Amazing place on the lake Tuusula. If you looking for some peace and quiet, extraordinary views - you can find it here!

A superb artist house museum that contains all the original furnishing (unlike Ahola). The changing exhibition was filled with stars and great artworka.

Beautiful place, wouldn't have minded staying a bit longer. Great artworks and architecture. It was very hot inside though due to sun all day and the house being black 😁.

Lovely piece of Finnish history. Pekka Halonen’s atelier home is gorgeus and offers art exhibitions with different themes fron Finnish Art Golden Age 1880-1930 throughout the year.

Ainola

Temporarily Closed
Museum
Nature & Parks
Museum home of composer Sibelius in the villa where he lived with his family from 1904-1957.
Nice. The house Sibelius lived in for more than 50 years. No theme park. Just the house with furniture and the story of their lives. Loved it
Tony B — Google review
Please with this. The garden is beautiful and the place itself is a walk into a history book. The building itself is stunning and the rooms nicely kept. You can see a lot of the old ornaments and catch a glimpse of the of how people lived during this period. The garden is stunning and well kept. The cafe is also a nice place to hang out and walk around.
Rosana E — Google review
Very interesting home museum of the Finnish national composer Jean Sibelius.
Juho Ä — Google review
After seen Sibelius Monument in Helsinki, it's just natural that one wants to see Ainola, the home of Jean and Aino Sibelius where they lived some half a century and which is now open for visitors as a home museum. The ticket price is 16 euro (summer25) which sounds a bit expensive if we think that the entrance costs to Kiasma, Ateneum and other big museums in Helsinki some 20 euroa. But maybe the ticket price doesn't matter so much if one is really interested in life of Finland's most famous composer.
Hannu T — Google review
A visit to Ainola had long been on my bucket list, so I arrived with high expectations. It's easy to see how the last 20 years or so of Sibalius' productive career, could have been influenced by such a stunning place. Today, the environment is a little spoiled by the proximity of a trunk road. But the house and gardens are unchanged since those days past, and you will appreciate the beauty and calm they install within you.
Sean J — Google review
Beautiful house and gardens. Highly recommend taking the time to visit the 'temple', the route is absolutely stunning.
Anne B — Google review
Really nice buildings and park. The interior and art collection are great. And the sauna! Worth visiting even if Sibelius is not your thing!
Peeter T — Google review
Home of Jean and Aino Sibelius, a very interesting history. A real home, did they say 99 ashtrays....he smoked cigars.

Old Town Bed and Breakfast Ida-Maria

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Old Town Bed and Breakfast Ida-Maria is a charming B&B located in a historic building dating back to the 1600s. The rustic rooms offer a cozy and comfortable stay, with amenities such as a lounge, sauna, and free Wi-Fi. Guests can enjoy delicious meals at the traditional small restaurant on-site, which has been serving for two decades. The staff is known for their exceptional service and accommodating nature, allowing early check-ins and luggage storage.
The apartment we stayed in was even nicer in real life than the pictures showed. We were very happy about our stay, and the staff was very service-oriented and accommodating to our needs. We could check in a little bit earlier than usual, and also leave our luggage for some hours after checking out, while we were strolling around in the old town before taking out bus back to Helsinki. Thank you for a wonderful comfortable stay!
Edvard K — Google review
Charming bed and breakfast spot in Porvoo. A shame we only stayed one night but the accomodations were cozy and inviting. The room we stayed in had a kitchen as well as a spacious living room. The living room had a nice view of the river. It was in the center of the town and easily accessible to the old and newer areas of Povoo. This would be a nice place for summer trip with the family.
Myo K — Google review
Very cute B&B along the river in Porvoo, Finland. I stayed in the Star Room, which is a bit separated from the main property. Owner knocked on the door as I arrived. He apparently also owns the nearby restaurant Ranta-aitta, which had its commissary and bathrooms across from the property. Be aware this property and its windows all face an alley that will have fairly heavy foot traffic in the afternoon/evening hours because of the restaurant. I immediately drew all the blinds when I entered the unit. Other than that privacy inconvenience, the location is fantastic, right on the main strip of the old town of Porvoo. Inside the unit you have a nicely functional kitchen and washer/dryer (which I used and was very convenient). There's two bathrooms, one with a shower and one without. Shower is a bit small and confining, but solid. The chairs in the kitchen were not super comfortable and the wifi didn't reach the bedroom very well, so if you need to do something online for a decent amount of time the unit isn't the most ergonomic solution for this situation. There is a piano in the unit! I did not play or know if it was actually encouraged but it's something to consider. There is access to a sauna that's across the street from the main property, which I used. Its heat doesn't get much higher than 60-70ºC but with plentiful water you can get enough steam for a good sweat. Breakfast was solid.
Mark F — Google review
We (two adults) stayed at Ida-Maria in Jan/2021 for two nights in ”Pieni huoneisto, puutarhanäkymä”. The room was lovely, cozy and clean. Delicious breakfast and very good service! All of this in the heart of Porvoo Old Town. Would absolutely recommend to anyone.
Eliisa L — Google review
Beautiful river view from our bedroom. Fantastic breakfast in the red historic houses on the river. We had a great time, thank you!

Porvoo Cathedral

Mentioned on
39 lists
Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Porvoo Cathedral, located in the enchanting Porvoo Old Town, is a small 13th-century cathedral that was originally constructed with wood and later fortified with stone walls. The cathedral, an Evangelical Lutheran church built in the 15th century with some parts dating back to the 13th century, stands as one of Finland's oldest churches. It serves as the seat of the Swedish-speaking Diocese of Borga and offers a picturesque view from the nearby hill.
One of the best Cathedrals in Finland. Really enjoyed the time and peaceful environment there. The numbers on the wall, I didn't get it, was that roman chapters/verse numbers from Bible? I don't know but the place was extremely peaceful and very historical. I'd recommend this for any tourist visiting Porvoo city in Finland.
Sunny S — Google review
Located in the heart of Porvoo, this small cathedral features simple architecture and a calm atmosphere. The second floor is closed to visitors, yet the main hall still feels welcoming. At the entrance you can pick up postcards and other souvenirs, selecting the design or author you like, with an offer of your choice. I suggest visiting at least once.
Fabrizio P — Google review
Built in the 15th century with some parts from the 13th century, this is a small church in a quaint town with lots of history. If you're staying in Helsinki, I'm not sure it's worth the drive, but I am glad I went and got to see Porvoo.
H M — Google review
A great 13th century rustic cathedral serving both the locsl Sw3dish and Finnisjh communities, with a commanding view of the surrounding settlement in Porvoo, about an hr from Helsinki central, overlooking a nice small river
Wing L — Google review
The five stars are mostly for the great lecture we got from one of the volunteers. The lecture/tour seems to happen every hour or so at request. Strongly recommend doing it as it reveals so many interesting aspects of this historic building.
Clynton B — Google review
The church was probably finished in 1418, altough this is speculative. Making in One of the nations oldest, located in the heart of Old Porvoo.
Tom T — Google review
Was closed for renovations, but outside was fantastic
Randy B — Google review
Quaint church on top of a hill. Built in the 15th century with some parts from the 13th century. The church is small. There's a small table with souvenirs on the honor system.

The Finnish Railway Museum

Museum
Historical landmark
19th-century station & engine shed setting for railway history museum with rolling stock collection.
Very nice and a well arranged place. Many train models are exhibited. Exhibits are well preserved. Sound effects in the exhibition halls are really nice. Anyway, it's bit difficult to see inside of some trains due to dust accumulation on the windows. Overall, recommended for both kids and adults. there is a special area for kids for some activities too. And a tiny train operates across the garden during the summer. You can have a ride. Just a short walk from Hyvinkää railway station. Staff is very friendly.
Rehan M — Google review
I have never been there before. Liked it. Nice lokomotives and cars to watch. Small minus though. You can not go in those things.
Kai H — Google review
Great view over the history of the Finnish railways. Many old locomotives to see. There's also a cafe outside with a possibility to hop on a small train that rides around the park area during the summer time and when it is dry.
Juho Ä — Google review
Great half-day trip from Helsinki! The Finnish Railway Museum is perfect for families with kids. The miniature train ride in the garden is a highlight. There’s also a fun indoor play area with wooden train sets, drawing corners, and even a real locomotive they can climb into. The museum is just a 10-minute walk from Hyvinkää train station, making it super easy to reach from Helsinki. The museum grounds are spacious, with well-preserved station buildings and outdoor displays that feel like walking through a piece of history. A most to-do if you’re in Uusimaa.
Catalin M — Google review
Great museum with unexpectedly beautiful and nice renovated trains. The condition of the locomotives are very good and during my visit there was some outdoor event as well with some modern trains and a running locomotive. It was great to visit and just around the corner from where I was living.
Sander V — Google review
Great collection of historic trains. Several free entrance days, worth watching out for. Some days in the summer of steam trains running... But many more days a diesel is running. The park "ride on" train is nice, a 3min lap of the grounds for 1euro each. (Only runs in the summer)
Gabriel P — Google review
The museum located in an old locomotive depot. A lot of rare trains as steam locomotive's. Very nice place!
Mike C — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit thanks to the plurality of trains exhibited there. Despite the fact that the big hall is not heated, it was really pleasant being able to go really close to all sort of trains, and even to take look into the inside from the windows. The only negative point is that a big part of the presentation signs are only written in finnish and not translated.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A fascinating journey through the history of glass! A beautifully curated museum showcasing glass from the 1700s to the present day. You’ll find everything from everyday items to stunning art pieces. One of the highlights was the installation displaying glass objects arranged in a color gradient – elegant and poetic. The museum isn’t huge, but the quality of the collection makes it well worth a visit. Highly recommended for anyone interested in design, craftsmanship, or Nordic aesthetics.

Arboretum Mustila

Arboretum Mustila is a large park featuring forest paths, sculptures, and a stunning display of spring-flowering azaleas and rhododendrons. The arboretum, established over a century ago, boasts an impressive variety of rare tree species and other plants. Visitors can explore picturesque routes surrounded by exotic plants with name tags while enjoying the beautiful scenery.
An important piece of Finnish gardening history and a wonderful place to walk few kilometers, have a picnic, or a soup lunch in cafe. Some paths are wide and easy, some not so. Do not expect a well manicured park or garden. This is a forest.
Esa A — Google review
On the 30th of April we drove here to see the floral forest with wooden art. After we paid the tickets we chose the longest path. Little did we know that we actually came too early in the season, beacause all plants and flowers were yet to open up. Since the main reason for visiting was to see the flowers and plants, it was very unfortunate that we didn't get informed by the staff. Because, where did we pay for in the end? We've been fooled, but finished the walk through te ordinary forest. At least we enjoyed the nice weather and wooden sculptures.
Jessica — Google review
Great variety of rare tree species and other plants. Beautiful sceneries too. There is a cafeteria where you can have lunch, coffee, sweets and ice cream. You can also buy tree saplings of many different species.
Negitoro — Google review
There is no nicer future gift to the next generations than someone planting a tree ... and this is exactly what the Mustila Arboretum is about as we are enjoying many such trees today that were planted slightly over a century ago. One of the key features are the rhododendrons and the azaleas ... plan your visit between the 20th of May and the 20th June for the perfect flowering time. Another key feature are the acer ... aim for the "ruska" time in early fall. This is a perfect outing on a nice day!!!
Bruno B — Google review
Absolutely stunning azalea season this year. Not too managed, the entire area retains a wild-like character. Worth visiting from early spring to late autumn.

Small musem that gets out everything of the different ski sports thats possible. Nice exhibitions through the history of cross-country, biathlon, ski-jumping or snowboarding and a ski-jumping simulator and laser pistol and biatlon riffle shooting also included. Worth to see when you are at the sports centre in Lahti!
Stefan M — Google review
Interesting but quite small place. Aimed at people of all ages. Lots of interaction and games for kids and like minded people. Just wishes there were more sports memorabilia.
Wiley C — Google review
Very interesting place about the ski history of Finland. On of the most interesting part is activities such as virtual ski jumping and biathlon shooting (I really wanted to just to stay there :)) It would be great if audio guide will be added to the first floor as well. And the audio guide on the basement would be a bit shorter, because it's a bit difficult to consume such amount of information

Nice place. Great to be for Ski events. Places to visit with kids. Skijumpsimulator! Funny. Have fire place to grill!

Place with Wintersport history - we stopped there for lunch which was served as buffet and was delicious.
Frank R — Google review
Very Modern museum, giving some history about skiing in general and of cause the finish sports. And a bit of fun in the ski jump simulator and shooting Simulator, nice idee. But from my point of view the entrance fee is a bit to high for the size of the museum, maybe for somebody who is more into Finnish winter sports legends it is more worth it.

Sibeliustalo (Sibelius Hall)

Sights & Landmarks
Sibeliustalo, also known as Sibelius Hall, is a remarkable concert and congress hall located in Lahti, Finland. Designed by renowned Finnish architects Hannu Tikka and Kimmo Lintula, this modern wooden structure is considered one of the most significant architectural works in the region. The hall boasts world-renowned acoustics and features a stunning timber-lined auditorium connected to an older building by a cathedral-like foyer with expansive glass walls and tall pillars resembling a Finnish forest.
The Sibeliustalo is a beautiful concert hall. It has also received several international awards for its truly unique acoustics. Again: the remarkably great hospitality of the Finns - when the two janitors gave us a spontaneous tour of the house, including the concert hall which actually was not open to the public. A wonderful experience, thanks to both of you if you happen to read this.

Beautiful theatre. Staff were lovely and clockroom and drinks all decently priced.

This is the most magnificent concert hall in the world and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra are HIGHLY underrated. A beautiful setting on the docks at Lake Vesijarvi in Lahti City, Finland. The only other concert hall with perhaps as good a setting is the Sydney Opera House in Sydney Harbour Australia, but I prefer Sibelius Hall. This was the view from the steps outside the hall on the evening of Thursday 17th May 2018.

Clean place and peaceful
Erdi T — Google review
Big shopping center with all you might need near Kouvola. Good variety of restaurant and cafes and cinema as well. Weekend mornings might be more busy than usual.
Ioanna O — Google review
In my opinion, one of the best shopping center in Finland. You can find restaurants, clothes, cafes, toys and other things there! If you have never been there, you should go and have a look.
Ada O — Google review
Just the ordinary mall with movie theater and restaurants but the only thing what is bat that it's too far from the town. And there is not a public transport which goes there. You need have a car to visit this mall. But if you are an old person or a person without a driving license it's too damn difficult to go there. It's outside frome town. Location is bad.
Elena S — Google review
A typical Finnish shopping mall, has many small stores varying from clothing to jewellery to beauty products, cafes, restaurants, department stores and a movie theater. Only downside is that it is quite far from central Kouvola, but there are a few bus lines that do go there.
Pilvi ( — Google review
The mall has a good variety of shops and caffes. They also have a very nice playgrounds for children and also feeding rooms which is great for family visit and spending good amount of time. I would definitely recommend this place!
Alina D — Google review
Largest mall in the area, with the most common cafeteria and shop chains present. The place has an adequate parking space, both in front and back of the building, several toilet facilities, kiddy-park, info-desk and other standard mall services. There's also a movie theater with 3D option.

New (therefore clean) and a decent choice of stores., for Finland at least. Also has large food store and builders merchant. Cinema complex to the rear

The Finnish Motorcycle Museum, with its recent Art Deco-style extension, is a magnificent showcase of over 100 old motorcycles and their fascinating stories. It also boasts the only Ace Cafe in the Nordic countries. Visitors praise the museum for its remarkable amount of motorcycle history and memorabilia, as well as its clean and tidy layout. The owner is described as a friendly and knowledgeable person who adds to the experience.
An interesting museum that contains quite a lot of different motorcycle models from different times.
Anastasiia Z — Google review
I gotta say, it surely is a cute little collection of mostly well kept bikes, but. What I'm struggling with, is the price of such a small collection, and with very little information about their history. I would appreciate more informative signs to read. It really isn't worth of the current price (12€) Maybe a bit cheaper ticket would also encourage people to try it out?
A T — Google review
Very small, but well kept museum. Two rooms + one exhibition room (for Honda bikes for the time being). Enjoyed it even for a pretty hefty price (14e).

Visited 5 years ago, and decided to return again, an excellent collection of motorcycles in a beautifully laid out and thoughtful arrangement, to anyone with the slightest interest please go! In addition the food was excellent!

Very nice place. Yearly changing exhibitions. About 100 bikes, this year Honda 120. Staff also friendly.

The bikes are unique, but an entrance fee of 12 Euros makes it somewhat questionable. It's not out of this world and staff mimics American culture. Good music.

That's just a great place for all kind of sport and recreational activities. In a walking distance you have all you need. Running indoors and outdoor, cross-country skiing, widr range of tracks for beginners and pros. Would wish that tracks are clean, I got bad scratches on my skis. Tried gym and circuit training area, running loop, swimming pool. Classes for students are good and modern. Conference rooms are good. Restaurants are good quality both cheaper and more pricy. Good pub for evening. Sleep in Fennada is of good quality. Room service need improvement, towels not changed, coffee mugs were dirty when arrived. But generally clean, has a drying locker.
Ilia K — Google review
Visited during autumn holiday. Finding the activities was horrendous. Web pages partly wrong, no signs, nobody to ask. The coaches were nice but they had absolutely no idea on customer value basics, and no willingness to receive feedback. Example: archery. We were told to come to a lobby of a certain building where the instructor would fetch us. Name of the building was wrong in the net and there were several lobbies. At one minute to due time nobody around. They had the participant list so they knew whom to expect. Finally found the group in a dark building 15 min late. After the class the instructor ran away to avoid feedback. You really need to work on this!

Good place to plan few days holiday for sport events. A lot of different options for all aged people throughout the year. I had been for 1 summer day and it became memorable one. Good for large groups and families. Resort offers food services according to the requirements. Its 132km far from Helsinki but really close to the nature. I recommend it.

Nice place to enjoy wintersports, although it is quite expensive overall. We had a nice cottage, fully equipped, sports facilities top notch. Rental prices for equipment are fair depending on the sports you choose. Curling for example is very expensive. Discovered new sports of Padel and used snow shoes for the first time. Everyone will find something they will enjoy here. Food on the premises is also of very high quality. Lunches in the cafe are very price worthy.

The best sport institute in Finland or the whole world. Everything within walking distance. For example, two ice rinks, two golf courses, soccer court, tennis courts, padel, gym, functional gym, courts for many indoor sports, plenty of outdoor sports, beach volleyball, frisbee golf, swimming hall and spa, premium hotel and other accommodation options, great restaurants, great staff and much more.

19th-century timber mill set in heritage village, with guided tours detailing working methods.
Well preserved cardboard factory and surrounding buildings situated in beautiful natural setting. Outdoor expositions provide good insight into history of the place including its inhabitants, the cardboard factory and adjacent power plants; everything is well labeled and can be seen free of charge. The cardboard factory itself houses former machinery used for production - this is well preserved and super interesting to visit as the whole production process can be easily followed and understood. Visits are available on guided tours only, tours in English available at every half past with the last one being at 3.30 PM. The staff is very friendly, professional and knowledgeable about both the factory and hikes in the surrounding countryside. Expect one of the cleanest toilets in Finland, don't expect free WiFi. Highly recommended to visit.

The must-visit, located near Kouvola. You will not find a museum here in the traditional sense, but it is very cool to walk around the historical territory of the plant and the trails around. There are several barbecue areas, you can rent a house and enjoy the local nature. In summer you can use free hanging tents

A lovely place for a family day trip. 100% buy tickets for the tour to see and hear about the mill. This includes (and is the only way to) see the inside spaces with all the original machinery and equipments!! Even a short film showing the mill in use, filmed during the last years of production. There is also a lot to see outside; with the power damn, nature, and all the other buildings associated with production. There is a good cafe and toilets. The whole place is very well maintained.

Grounwood and board mill museum in Verla is absolutely worth visiting! You can explore the interiors of mill buildings only on guided tours, which start on the hour sharp. The guide explains each stage of technology of converting spruces into cardboards. You get an idea how the old machines were used. There is also a very informative, 10 min long film at the end of the guided tour. However, if you arrive outside the opening hours, the place is still worth visiting due to it's amazing location. There are many information boards outside the buildings that explain the history and technology of the mill. There is a beautifull garden with impressive villa. Cafeteria offers delicious buns. There are also shops that sell genuine handicrafts.

The Craft Museum of Finland may not seem impressive from the outside, but it holds a treasure trove of exhibits showcasing the history and development of various trades and crafts in Finland. The highlight is the workshop, stocked with diverse supplies and tools to fuel your creativity. Visitors can draw inspiration from a booklet offering suggestions or let their imagination run wild. The museum also features displays on traditional Finnish costumes, historical domestic practices like linen-making, and changing exhibitions that showcase Finnish handicrafts.
While it doesn't look like much from the outside, this museum is a real treasure. It has an amazing exhibition of the history and evolution of various trades and crafts in Finland. The best part is the workshop. Chock-full of all kinds of supplies and tools, you can let your inspiration guide you. There's a booklet with various suggestions, but these can be used as points of departure for your imagination. It's a perfect place to come with kids, especially on a rainy day as you can easily spend hours in the workshop. Kids go for free, adult tickets are 8 Euro.
E K — Google review
I'm not much of a museum person, but my Finnish wife thought this would be an interesting visit. I enjoyed it. Tickets were around 8 Euros a piece. They also had a lot of nice history with the outfits that people wore in the past as well as how they did linens and other things within the home. It took probably an hour to walk through and look at everything. A nice collection and it is displayed quite well.

Such great history on Finland. There are many interactive features for all I
Caitlin M — Google review
Very disappointing, we went mainly for the temporary exhibition through the pinhole which seemed to have absolutely no relation to the online description had none of the things promised on it and turned out just to be a collection of photographs. The permanent exhibition was interesting if you are really into fabrics but had little information on the costumes, however the rooms are very dark to preserve the costumes and there is little attempt at interactivity also apparently the Sami do not exist in their world. There is the art museum which was rather wonderful just up the street from it which is highly recommended. (In reply to there reply) pretty much none of what you claim was available in your reply was there... I have no idea what you saw but it wasn't the same as we experienced

Lovely place to visit. Something for every sense, the permanent exhibition has a lovely showing of Finnish handicrafts throughout history in many ways. An absolute paradise in the middle of ...nowhere :-)... Well, at least in the middle of the forest. Compared to several Finnish and European amusement parks, this is a genuine pearl. Safe, no worries that the kids will be lost, everybody very friendly. And, even the owner can be seen. True spirit. Some machinery may be quite old, but who cares, when everybody from age of one to early teens really enjoy. And for us 50+, this is a trip to the past. Highly recommended.
Tero T — Google review
An old park with attractions for kids. Nothing fancy, expensive in relation with what you get there. Workers mostly uninterested and chatting in between themselves. Safety is under a big question
Irina K — Google review
nice! But why?
Axel H — Google review
This place is for kids only, no rides are designed with adults in mind. The "mörkömetsä" (spooky forest path) part of the park is laughably bad - the maps they hand out of it paint a picture of various funnily spooky locations, in reality what you will encounter are a few painted rocks, deteriorating plastic props and twigs. Incredibly corny. They advertise to have one of the largest retro arcades in Finland: in reality, only a handful of games are playable. If you are interested in the history of old slot machines and coin operated "payazzos" (pajatso, a traditional finnish gambling arcade game), they do have a dozen of these rare machines on display. Granted, there are a lot of rides, although most of them are really old. Free entry makes up for a lot of the shortcomings.

The Finnish Air Force Museum is a must-visit for aviation enthusiasts, boasting an impressive collection of rare military planes from various countries including Russia, Britain, America, Sweden, Finland, and Germany. Visitors can get up close to most planes but the limited space makes it challenging to see the aircraft as a whole. The museum features English and Finnish explanations throughout its well-organized exhibits.
A place really worth visiting for anyone with some interest about aviation. Plenty with planes, engines, weapons and many more! Some are displayed as 'crashed', or with open parts so you can watch the interior, really interesting. Don't miss the huge model kit collection as well as the beautiful pictures of old planes in action.

Eranga E — Google review
One of the best aviation museums I've ever visited. The aircraft are amazingly well preserved, many in their original paint, rather than being restored with new parts. There are 4 cockpits you can sit in, with many parts still working. The cafe and gift shop are small. I was impressed to see a selection of relevant aircraft kits and decals in the shop.

This is a great museum offering detailed information about the history and development of the FInnish airforce. Owing to its location, it is best to get here by car. However, bus number 22 from the Jyvaskyla public transport takes you here. From the downtown of Jyvaskyla to the museum , the bus ride takes around 30 minutes.
E K — Google review
Very cool museum with 40+ aircraft of all uses and sizes. This is accompanied ons of models and also very informative panels about the history of Finnish aviation including interesting backstories of the blue swastika and home-made planes Tiira. Another cool feature is that you can sit in real cockpits of two real fighter jets (just the cockpit part present in this case). Part of the exhibits are outside but most of the museum is hosted indoors.
Jiří M — Google review
Awesome place for the aviation nerd 🤣 Got two and a half SAAB J35 Drakens... the half being a front with a cockpit that you may sit inside (along MiG-21 too, so you can compare the east vs. west experience). The exposition is focused on Finnish air forces alone, and is very rich, extensive and well organised. Time very well spent!

Rosti not good with the perch, sauce funny taste, too salty, too spicy - chicken was un-tastefull (no feta?!) - more like food from a takeaway grill. Mayo on the reindeer carpaccio was a mistake. Apple crumble un-interesting. House wine poor. Cook did not do a good job. Waited 20 min just to order (not busy at that time). Banana flies at our table!

Apple crumble un-interesting. House wine poor. Cook did not do a good job. Waited 20 min just to order (not busy at that time). Banana flies at our table!

Food was just fine, french fries 🍟 are not home made, burger 🍔 is served with a super spice pepper 🌶️. Service was fast. The place is nice, you can go only for a drink here.

The Hupisaaret Islands, located just outside Oulu's city center, are a picturesque cluster of small islands connected by charming white bridges. These islands offer a variety of attractions including bike paths, museums, greenhouses, and a cozy summer cafe. The area is perfect for a quick escape to enjoy the natural beauty of Finland in any season.
A beautiful landscape.

(Translated by Google) An atmospheric park area near the center of Oulu. Lovely bridges, paths and streams. There is also a children's playground in the area. We walked in the area both during the day and in the evening, both have their advantages. Lots of people on the move all the time, cyclists whiz by sometimes too fast. A wonderful picnic area for sure in the summer. 👌 (Original) Tunnelmallinen puistoalue Oulun keskustan kupeessa. 👌

(Translated by Google) A fine park area, perhaps the most beautiful ensemble in Finland: flowing, clear water, islands, bridges, walkways, plantings, statues, a playground and fountains. Not too pretentious, nicely brings out the best features of Finnish nature. 👏 (Original) Hieno puistoalue, kenties Suomen kaunein kokonaisuus: virtaavaa, kirkasta vettä, saaria, siltoja, kävelyteitä, istutuksia, patsaita, leikkipuisto ja suihkulähteet. Ei liian prameaa, tuo hienosti esille Suomen luonnon parhaat piirteet. 👏

(Translated by Google) A great place to go jogging/walking in nature in the middle of the city of Oulu. Apparently, the city has invested in green areas and routes little by little. In my opinion, the area has become more pleasant over the years. In the heat of summer, there are good places for a little picnic or just sunbathing. Apparently, a new summer theater building has also been erected. (Original) Hieno paikka käydä lenkillä/kävelemässä luonnossa keskellä Oulun kaupunkia. Ilmeisesti kaupunki on panostanut viheralueisiin ja reitteihin pikkuhiljaa. Mun mielestä alue on muuttunut vuosien mittaan entistä viihtyisämmäksi. Kesäkuumalla löytyy hyviä paikkoja pikku piknikille tai vaan auringonottoon. Näköjään uusi kesäteatterirakennuskin on noussut paikalle.

(Translated by Google) It is popular with joggers and a popular picnic destination in the summer. It's also nice to just go sit and chat in the summer and fall. (Original) Lenkkeilijät suosivat sekä kesäisin suosittu piknik -kohde. Mukava myös muuten vain mennä istuskelemaan ja juttelemaan kesäisin ja syksyisin.

Nallikari is a stunning seaside resort that transforms with the seasons, offering a unique experience year-round. In summer, this picturesque destination becomes a vibrant hub for sunbathers and outdoor enthusiasts alike, featuring a one-kilometer stretch of soft white sand where families can enjoy beach volleyball or cycling along scenic paths. The area buzzes with life as visitors indulge in water sports and savor delicious meals at local cafes, including Scandinavian and Italian cuisine.
Stunning beach and I have no regret to visit this place especially catching the sunset in early winter. Although it was so lazy moving to this place, but I made a visit here. Can't imagine if I didn't visit this beach during my only visit to Oulu
Muhamad R — Google review
Shallow swimming area, you will have to walk quite a distance to swim in deeper water. Sandy beach. There are rocks at the water's edge, followed by a sandy bottom. Very beautiful sunsets in the evenings. There are changing rooms, bicycle parking, and a fenced-in playground nearby.

Large, clean beach. Public transportation connection by bus, although one has to walk quite far, around 15 minutes to reach the bus stop. Was a life guard, a small amusement park for children, mini golf and restaurants.
Annabella W — Google review
I went to this place in winter and had an amazing experience walking on the frozen sea. It was an out of the world feel. People have been walking, running, skiing, skating and ice fishing on the frozen sea. The first experiences are one of the best experiences and this was one such for me. Lovely landscape, completely white all around and a peaceful surrounding. In summer this would be another best spot to swim, camp and spend some quality time outdoor

Good place to watch the sunset. A place to be if u visit Oulu, but don't expect crystal clear water 😅

Beautiful beach (Clean and less crowded) I was staying in Radisson Blue and took a Cycle from the Hotel . Its 3.5 KM from the Hotel and you will really enjoy the way to this Beach. Never ever miss to go to this beach by cycle (if you don't know how to skate :) ). The scenic beauty is awesome.
Sourabh D — Google review
Beautiful view but the beach stinks awfully which was unpleasant. Surprised to see anyone in the water as I read it was heavily polluted as it is Baltic water.

Kierikki Stone Age Centre

History museum
Museums
The Kierikki Stone Age Centre is a fascinating museum located by the Iijoki River, showcasing important Stone Age settlements in the area. The museum features informative displays of artifacts such as preserved wooden fish traps and offers a ponderous video detailing excavation histories. Visitors can explore re-created period buildings along a boardwalk leading to the picturesque riverbank. In summer, activities like primitive bow and arrow shooting and paddling in a Stone Age canoe are available for an immersive experience.
I was here on a university placement for 28 days, working on experimental archaeological projects at the site. I was not employed by the site, and did not work there. The location is two parts; the first is a museum, showing some of the local finds and parts of prehistoric culture. This provided a lot of information on Finnish culture and the local area. The second part is the prehistoric village, which is approximately 500m walk away. This show interpretations of Finnish structures such as log houses, and a sauna. They also have a trap trail, which is some 400m long, displaying different types of traps used for hunting different animals. The walk to the village and around the trap trail is via wooden decking, which bar one spot is wheelchair accessible. The spot is a short stretch of slope, again with wooden decking which is accessible to wheelchairs but I would find it difficult to push a wheelchair up or down the slope. In the village itself is a combination of sand, gravel, and hard soil. It is fully possible to push around a wheelchair here but I would recommend watching where you go, and it might not be possible to enter the buildings. The staff as a whole were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. As soon as guests enter the site, they will be greeted by a staff member and the area explained. Around the site are a couple of different activities, such as archery, canoeing in a log canoe, painting using ochre or making a stone necklace. I think as a visitor, it is very easy to spend half a day at the village itself, trying out the different things. This museum is well worth a visit, but is an hour travel outside of Oulu so plan accordingly.

If you're in the area, this is a must. Beautiful grounds, super helpful staff, remarkable architecture for the stone age, simply a very enjoyable hands on experience.
Mohammad A — Google review
Nice and well presented exhibition, also interesting building in its own, and a nice walk amongst the excavation sites and replica buildings. Many activities, archery, jewelry making, boat rowing and when we visited they had a mini blues concert and a live chainsaw sculpture making contest! I had to deduct one star for the lunch buffet. Not a single item was home made, not even the mashed potatoes! I hope this was due to us eating pretty late lunch, even though I don't think so. So, go for a visit and bring mosquito repellent to enjoy the outdoor part more, but maybe skip the lunch! :)

beautiful place with some activities for the kids.

Informative and a lot of fun! There are several interesting activities you can try out: - making your own stone jewellery - archery - rowing on a stone age boat - dressing up in costume for a photo (this activity is in the museum indoors) The workers there were very open and helpful. The surrounding forest and walking paths are very pleasant.
Natalia N — Google review
The seaside was there several thousand years ago, where the river ended. Probably it was excellent fishing place at that time. There was excavation on that area, thus we know lot of things about our ancestors.
János M — Google review
I very much enjoyed shooting the bow and creating a piece of jewelry with my own hands! The trap demonstrations were also well made and interesting to see. Be sure to prepare for mosquitos and check out the museum and gift shop inside the main building.
Chief S — Google review
We started out by viewing the interesting display and museum and watching 2 shows related to the area in the auditorium. There were subtitles in English. Then we walked the 500m to the stone age village. After looking inside the stone age dwellings, we made necklaces, tried out our archery skills and paddled in a dugout canoe. We then walked around and looked at the different types of traps. We saw people grilling sausages on a fire outside one of the dwellings and wished we had known beforehand that you can bring your own sausages and roast them on the fire. All in all, a pleasant way to spend the day.

(Translated by Google) We booked a day with Elina to discover nature and go snowshoeing as well as 3 nights in her BnB. Both professional and friendly, we had a great time! Regarding the day, she had prepared a superb picnic for us which we took in a cabin on the edge of a frozen lake around a good wood fire: vegetable soup, typical bread, cheese, sausages cooked over a wood fire, coffee and homemade berry pie! She explained to us the different animal tracks, the trees and lots of things about Lapland! We even tried our hand at ice fishing. Regarding the accommodation, it was perfect and authentic with a built-in and included wood-fired sauna. He had everything he needed to feel good. Elina was available and attentive. She took the time to explain to us how to do the sauna. We highly recommend booking with Artic emotion oy for an authentic and typical experience to be completed with a few nights at her place! Thanks again for everything Elina! If you are looking for an authentic Sámi experience you can go there with your eyes closed. The offerings are not very touristy (which is exactly what we were looking for) and very authentic - we went to a reindeer farm, fed reindeer and then drank coffee with the owners. We went ice fishing and snowshoeing followed by dinner by the open fire - it's exactly what you dream of in Lapland. Elina and Ilkka are very welcoming and we would love to come back. Die Angebote sind wenig touristisch (genau das haben wir gesucht) und sehr authentisch - wir waren auf einer Rentierfarm, haben Rentiere gefüttert und danach mit den Besitzern gemeinsam Kaffee getrunken. If we visit Lapland again, we will definitely stay at both of their AirBNBs and take the great tours. Many greetings from Germany. :) (Original) Wer Lappland besucht, sollte unbedingt bei Elina und Ilkka eine der tollen Touren buchen. Giant's Kettle, Sukulanrakka

Historical landmark
Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
The Giant's Kettle is a historical landmark in Finland that was used as a water heater for the nearby garrison. It is now open to the public as a museum. The views from the top are amazing and it's a great place to visit while the sun is up.
Nice little hike, stay here for 1 hour and you can see a lot! Nice with dogs, because it's quiet.
Rene T — Google review
It's a nice place in the middle of nature. Parking is right next to the rocks. It's nice to see it here, but don't expect a real hike. You can walk through the entire rock formations crisscross in about half an hour. There are also climbing hooks, so you can bring your climbing gear and enjoy an extra experience.
Dana F — Google review
Don't just enjoy the rocks. Discover these small paths winding through the forest and take a few hours of aimless wandering - it's worth every step you take!

It's a nice spot but nothing too exciting. Surrounded by nice nature.
Blazka R — Google review
Interesting place with some good hiking trails and beautiful nature. There's a hut with a toilet you can rent, unfortunately both are closed if you just happen to come by. The place itself is very clean but some people decided to throw empty cans into the holes.
Dani M — Google review
Only go here in summer. It is not the most popular place so the snow is very difficult to walk on - it was the longest 2km walk from the road because our feet were constantly sinking in the snow. My feet are still wet 5 days later. Once there, it really wasn’t worth it. Maybe it’s nicer in summer when you can explore more. In late April it was too icy and the snow was too think and unstable so I didn’t climb so much.
