Nature & Parks
Wildlife refuge
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Lovely place, though the area is mainly closed from April 1st till July 17th (because of the nesting season of protected species). You can walk around it though. (Horse- &, bike riding also forbidden!)
Kari A — Google review
Lemmenlaakso Nature Park offers a serene and mystical experience, especially in winter, with its snow-covered trails and frosted landscapes. However, the icy and slippery trails call for caution, so visitors are advised to wear sturdy footwear with proper grip to ensure safety during the colder months. The wooden steps in the forested sections often retain ice, posing an additional hazard, so extra care is needed. Despite these challenges, the park’s beauty remains captivating, with frozen streams and tranquil surroundings offering a peaceful escape for nature lovers. Even during the snowy season, the park is believed to host rich wildlife, giving visitors the opportunity to spot unique species or tracks in the snow. A visit during daylight hours is recommended to fully appreciate the scenic views and safely explore the trails.

Kuusijärvi

Kuusijärvi, located just north of Helsinki in Vantaa, is a popular year-round recreational center offering various activities for families and visitors. In the summer, it's known for its excellent swimming facilities and sandy beach, while in winter, it offers cross-country skiing opportunities. One of its highlights is the public smoke sauna called Savusauna, providing a unique experience for visitors to enjoy the sauna before cooling off with a swim in Lake Kuusijarvi.
Feeling bored??? Pack your swimming costumes and head for this place. You can go swimming, do grilling, have fun in sauna, play outdoor sports, lay on the beach for the warmth of the sun, opt for a walk and so on. You can literally have fun in way more options you will find here. You will enjoy more with your own buddies or hang out with anyone as well. Loved every bit of time here.
SHWETA C — Google review
Ice skated in the lake with a layer of thin snow and thick ice, very nice 🙌🙌
Daffa B — Google review
The smoke saunas are truly authentic, and we met plenty of locals while we were there, which is always a good sign. It is very easy to reach by public transport and also makes the perfect stop after a hike on one of the many beautiful nearby trails. Practical tip: Bring your flip-flops and shower gel, though both are available for purchase on site. You can also rent towels if needed. A word about timing: The smoke sauna opens at 2 pm, and the temperature gradually drops throughout the day. Because it is heated in the traditional way, there is no thermostat, so the temperature cannot be controlled or predicted precisely. Early in the day, around 3 pm, it can reach up to 135°C (275°F), which most people would find far too intense. By the end of the day, it may drop to around 50°C (122°F), which could feel a bit too mild. From what we gathered, the sweet spot tends to be between 4 and 7 pm for most people, but it really depends on the day. If the smoke sauna happens to be too hot or not hot enough during your visit, the electric saunas in the main building are excellent. There are two for men, and we assume there are also two for women. Each one has its own character and charm. They are designed in an authentic Finnish way and offer a great alternative or complement to the smoke sauna. Important to know: Swimsuits are required in the smoke sauna and in all outdoor areas, including when cooling down in the lake. In the electric gender-separated saunas, however, you are not supposed to wear anything and are expected to use a seat pad. We went in naked, but we did notice that even some locals kept their swimsuits on, so it seems you are free to wear whatever makes you most comfortable. The lake itself is lovely. It has a few clearly marked very shallow areas, ideal for children or anyone who prefers not to go too deep. But most of the lake is deeper, especially by the wooden deck, reaching about three to four metres, which is perfect for a proper swim. At just €16, it is truly excellent value. While visits are technically limited to two hours, the atmosphere is relaxed. No one is watching the clock, and you will not be rushed out if you stay a little longer. There is also a cosy café serving tasty food and drinks, which makes a perfect way to wind down after your sauna session.

I stay around 6kms away from this place. It’s just two months since I landed in Finland and this place has already attracted me so much. I have been to this place twice so far. I take a walk on the side of the woods, take the 1.8 kms lake circle walk, feel the fresh chill breeze, journal for sometime. I love the tranquility and calmness of this place. The nature at its best. There is a proper swimming partition on one side of the lake and there are free saunas available. You can see lots of people taking bath even in end of autumn and beginning of winter. When you visit here plan to spend some good amount of time. There is also a grill available outside on the other side, so if you wanna have some grills and enjoy the nature, its a perfect place.
Rajee J — Google review
One of the best Sauna I've ever been. I'll definitely come back one day.

Beautiful natural park where you can swimming, jogging or go sauna. There is also restaurant where you can buy drinks and food. Recommend to visit in summer time.
Michael A — Google review
I simply love this place - lake, the forest path and it's easy to come by bike here, cause of the straight asphalt road heading here. Grilling and swimming are always a big plus. PS If you do not tired you can explorer in the Sipoo National Park at the same shoot!

Museum home of composer Sibelius in the villa where he lived with his family from 1904-1957.
Nice. The house Sibelius lived in for more than 50 years. No theme park. Just the house with furniture and the story of their lives. Loved it
Tony B — Google review
Please with this. The garden is beautiful and the place itself is a walk into a history book. The building itself is stunning and the rooms nicely kept. You can see a lot of the old ornaments and catch a glimpse of the of how people lived during this period. The garden is stunning and well kept. The cafe is also a nice place to hang out and walk around.
Rosana E — Google review
Very interesting home museum of the Finnish national composer Jean Sibelius.
Juho Ä — Google review
After seen Sibelius Monument in Helsinki, it's just natural that one wants to see Ainola, the home of Jean and Aino Sibelius where they lived some half a century and which is now open for visitors as a home museum. The ticket price is 16 euro (summer25) which sounds a bit expensive if we think that the entrance costs to Kiasma, Ateneum and other big museums in Helsinki some 20 euroa. But maybe the ticket price doesn't matter so much if one is really interested in life of Finland's most famous composer.
Hannu T — Google review
A visit to Ainola had long been on my bucket list, so I arrived with high expectations. It's easy to see how the last 20 years or so of Sibalius' productive career, could have been influenced by such a stunning place. Today, the environment is a little spoiled by the proximity of a trunk road. But the house and gardens are unchanged since those days past, and you will appreciate the beauty and calm they install within you.
Sean J — Google review
Beautiful house and gardens. Highly recommend taking the time to visit the 'temple', the route is absolutely stunning.
Anne B — Google review
Really nice buildings and park. The interior and art collection are great. And the sauna! Worth visiting even if Sibelius is not your thing!

Lovely artist home. Extremely well taken care of and were greeted by very friendly staff. We were also able to pick and take home nearby wildflowers
Hannah G — Google review
A stunning location and a truly wonderful wooden house. The view to the lake is just fantastic. Very disappointed though to find that inside the house they did not have many works of Halonen on display but instead lots of paintings and works from other Finnish artists painted whilst they had been in France. I visited hoping to specifically see and learn about the person who had lived in the house. I am not sure if I would have wished to pay the rather expensive entrance fee to see works from artists who are already on display in large museums in Helsinki.

I love the elegant building, the cafe inside and beautiful little park with the lake. One of my favorite places around Helsinki.
Olena M — Google review
A great place to have a cup of coffee together with a freshly baked cinnemon bun. Lunch is also available. The Lotta Museums main exhibition "The Story of the Lotta – Always Demand the Most from Yourself" an experience-based and touching exhibition based on the personal experiences of the Lottas. The exhibition is a comprehensive presentation of the history and activities of the Lotta Organization and the impact it had on the post-WWII society. The main building was built in 1995 and was designed to resemble the original tower villa from the 1800s, which was eventually destroyed by a fire on The 1st of April 1947.

Suomenlinna

Fortress
Museums
Suomenlinna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an island fortress accessible only by ferry. This historic district is home to around 800 residents and features a shop, hospital, library, and elementary school. The island's significance makes it an attractive area for young people and creatives due to its galleries and inspiring ocean surroundings.
Great little trip from the city. The ferry ride takes about 15 minutes. Suomenlinna is a great place to walk around and explore. It has some beautiful views and is filled with a lot of history. They have a couple cafes where you can grab treats/drinks while you wait for the ferry back. Definitely something to add it to your itinerary.
Widnelly C — Google review
If you love history and nature, this is a "must visit" for you. Take a ride on a ferry, ca 15 min from Helsinki and spend a day on this island. I suggest taking your time, the whole day, if you want to explore the island. There are cafes and restaurants, if you get tired or hungry. There is a supermarket, where you can get coffee and warm pastries. There are museums which are defenitely worth visiting. Walk along the shore and enjoy amazing views. Go explore the tunnels for sure, if you dare. Have a picnic if you wish. There are so many things you can do and see. The guide is also available. WCs are everywhere. It is easy to spend the whole day there and swith off the rest of the world.
Julia M — Google review
I had heard great things about Suomenlinna and I wasn’t disappointed! Such an adorable little island. It is filled with history and just lovely to walk around. Such easy access to get to, you don’t want to miss this on your next visit in Helsinki:)
Helena R — Google review
Frequent ferris daily to reach the island. Enjoy the tranquility time travel walk. We arrived there before daybreak, the unmanned visiter information center was open, supplying warmth, wifi, toilets and maps.
Lihao L — Google review
Suomenlinna is an incredible place to explore and soak up Finnish history. The island is full of historic fortifications, museums, and scenic walking paths, with stunning views of the sea and Helsinki’s harbor. It’s peaceful and easy to wander around, with plenty of spots to relax and take photos. Perfect for a day trip, whether you’re interested in history, nature, or just enjoying a unique part of Helsinki. Highly recommended! Also the ferry’s to and from the island are efficient and come very often. Also free with the HSL transport ticket!
Jack F — Google review
Fantastic day out to this set of small Islands, good restaurants and cafes with lots to see. Cost of the ferry €3.20 one way. Free entry into the Islands, bring the kids and be prepared to do a lot of walking the ferry takes 15 minutes, plenty of toilets everywhere.
Alastair M — Google review
Only fragments of the fortress survive, mostly stretches of old stone walls and a few scattered pieces of artillery such as catapult remnants, yet the site is still a great place to wander and enjoy sweeping sea views. It can be extremely windy and cold, even in summer, so bring a sweater or other warm layers. If you like open landscapes mixed with a touch of history, it is well worth a visit.
Fabrizio P — Google review

Viking Line, Suomen osasto

Mentioned on

Cruise line company
Transportation
Viking Line, Suomen osasto is one of the international ferry companies that operate services from Finland to Sweden, Germany, Estonia, and Russia. It's known for being the cheapest option for travel between Helsinki and Tallinn. The staff mainly consists of Finns who are proficient in English but may not speak Estonian or Russian. The trip takes a little over 2 hours and offers seating areas with some having outlets to charge devices.
we had a wonderful experience in vikingline while coming back from tallinn to helsinki from our day trip. it is a huge ship for a two hours journey. we got a very nice seat in live performance area. we were super entertained with their live music. they also have quite a good drinks/coffee/snacks/food option. but best thing that they have a mini supermarket with very affordable price, especially for the drinks.
Dewang P — Google review
Overall great experience. Was easy to board, easy to find out room on the bottom of the boat 😂 Ate dinner at the Grill and that was pretty good. Walked around the ship and then sat on the back in the Sandals Bar area to watch the sunset and scroll on our phones. The biggest problem we had was that the WiFi does NOT connect on the 2nd floor, so we could not use our phones in our room. I assume it is the cars blocking the signal, but there should be a way to add WiFi connection down for those on the 2nd floor. Easy to get off the ship and to the trams.
Alyssa W — Google review
Viking Cinderella is a nice, though a bit used ferry. It was probably considered quite fancy in the past, nowadays it’s outdated, but still lovely. On the ferry Helsinki-Stockholm you can find all what you need for one night to have a lovely time, and much more. Ferry tickets for two cost around 130 euros, but it depends when are you purchasing them, and also which room/deck you choose
Olha K — Google review
The Viking line sits near tram and bus access. We found it easy to mobilize via stairs and ramps to entrance of station. The port station offers a cafe, a kids play ground area on second floor The journey to the ship was easy via escalator and elevator. The Viking XPs ship from Helsinki Finland to Tallin Estonia offers luggage storage, a cafe, a sit down restaurant, a casino, and a kids area. The kids area includes a playground, video games, table games, a family cafe with baby food, dedicated kids menu and slushies, popcorn and kids stuff.
Toni T — Google review
A great way to get from Helsinki to Tallinn. You can get some nice views of Suomenlinna Fortress as you sail
Jolene K — Google review
My first ship ride and it was an awesome experience. This ferry operates between Helsinki and Stockholm. Despite being over 30 years old, it offers a comfortable cruising experience with modern amenities such as restaurants, shops, bars, entertainment, and a sauna.
Mujeib K — Google review
Easy to find the terminal. E-check in machines in the lobby. Be there at least half an hour before departure.
DEJAN R — Google review
Does what it says on the tin. Gets you to Helsinki and back from Stockholm at a fair price. Nice bar on the top deck, plenty of restaurants, albeit they're fairly pricey. Still, we had a good crossing and would certainly sail with them again.

Uspenski Cathedral

Mentioned on

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Perched atop a hill in Helsinki, Uspenski Cathedral is the epicenter of the Finnish Orthodox faith. Known as the 'Russian Church,' it boasts an ornate exterior with red brick and distinctive onion domes. Inside, visitors are treated to lavish interior decorations that reflect Orthodox Byzantine style influenced by Italian Art Deco. With its thirteen towers and east-facing crosses symbolizing Jesus and the Twelve Apostles, this cathedral stands out as Scandinavia's largest Orthodox church.
A gorgeus architecture of orthodox church! Is a must see place when you are Helsinki , capital of Finland. Words about this place can't describe the beauty of the building. The Uspenski Cathedral is considered to be the largest Orthodox temple in Northern and Western Europe. The cathedral’s size is emphasized by its location on the highest hill of the Katajanokka district. The central cupola of the cathedral is 33 meters high. The cathedral was designed by the Russian church architect Aleksei M. Gornostajev. The Uspenski Cathedral was consecrated on October 25th, 1868. The Uspenski Cathedral is consecrated to the Dormition of the Mother of God (uspenie). The praasniekka church festival (also known as prazdnik or kermis) is held annually on August 15th.
Robert B — Google review
Uspenski Cathedral is one of Helsinki’s most beautiful landmarks. With its red-brick walls, golden domes, and hilltop views over the harbor, it’s stunning inside and out. The interior glows with gilded icons, chandeliers, and rich Orthodox detail — a striking contrast to the minimalist Helsinki Cathedral. Free to visit and just a short walk from the center, it’s a must-see in the city.
Louie F — Google review
It is a pleasure to visit, and it is quite outstanding. There are many tourists. We can go inside but it is a small Orthodox-style church. If you are not particularly interested in churches, tou can still appreciate the exterior and the city view from its terrace.
Tony C — Google review
Uspenski Cathedral is a striking and beautiful landmark that you can’t miss when walking along the harbour. Its impressive red-brick exterior and golden domes stand out against the skyline, and the closer you walk towards it, the more magnificent it becomes. You can also enter the cathedral, which adds to the experience. I visited on a weekday morning, and it was already lively with many tourists. Wandering around the area and taking in the details of the architecture was a lovely way to spend time. During my stay in Helsinki, I found myself noticing the cathedral almost every day, and it left a lasting impression on me. A must-see spot when visiting the city.
Tomoe M — Google review
Truly wonderful architecture! I made sure to add this as a stop on my trip to Helsinki, Finland! The walk to get to the cathedral was easy (I just used the map on my phone). The views of the surrounding areas are great once you climb the stairs! This is definitely worth the trek!
David K — Google review
1 | The largest Orthodox church in both Northern and Western Europe is also the main cathedral of the Helsinki Orthodox Diocese. It is located close to the Helsinki waterfront, and I was personally captivated by its brick-red color. Around 700,000 bricks were used for its construction, brought from the Bomarsund fortress in the Åland Islands. 2 | The church features 13 gilded domes, symbolizing Christ and the twelve apostles. The main dome rises to a height of 33 meters. 3 | You have to climb several steps to reach it, but it’s worth it. Entrance to the church outside of service times costs €5.
Petr N — Google review
Stunning Orthodox cathedral with impressive red-brick architecture and golden domes. The interior is beautiful and peaceful, with rich icons and details. Located on a small hill, it offers nice views over Helsinki and the harbor.
Anwar S — Google review
The architecture is truly astonishing! It has various charms by being viewed from different angles. The location is great and can be accessed by multiple walkways. The interior is beautiful and very well maintained, and you can learn about the history of the cathedral by easily scanning the QR code for the digital guide.

The Old Market Hall in Helsinki is a historic 19th-century venue located near the iconic Market Square. It offers a unique shopping experience with shops and stalls selling traditional Finnish specialties, including local cheeses, seafood, fruits, vegetables, cakes, spices, teas, and coffee. Adjacent to where fishing boats dock, visitors can sample fresh seafood in a historic atmosphere. The vibrant Market Square nearby features bustling activity with stalls offering fresh produce and handmade crafts.
The Old Market Hall in Helsinki, Finland, was one of our first stops right after arriving on the 2-hour ferry from Tallinn, and we truly enjoyed every moment. It’s fascinating to see so many international flavors under one roof, from Vietnamese classics to Turkish coffee, from fresh fish and seafood to unique souvenirs like deer horns and furs. There are dozens of small shops to explore one by one, each with its own charm. Absolutely recommended!!

Restored fish market (I am assuming) that now houses individual food stalls. We were there pretty early so it wasn't busy. There are free toilets in the back. We bought a delicious lingonberry mini pie. It's right on the water, near the ferry that takes you to Suomenlinna, a popular tourist destination. I imagine that the hall is jam packed during the day. There are hot prepared, packaged, and to go options available.

The Old Market Hall is a fantastic place to explore and experience Helsinki’s local flavors. The hall is full of character, with plenty of stalls offering fresh produce, fish, baked goods, and traditional Finnish treats. The atmosphere is lively but not overwhelming, and it’s a great spot to grab a snack or just soak in the local culture. A must-visit for food lovers and anyone who wants a taste of authentic Helsinki!

Near the outdoor market, ferry to Suomenlinna, and offers delicious salmon soup... couldn't love this spot more. Visited twice on my short trip to Helsinki. Does seem to get quite the cruise crowd at lunchtime though.

The Old Market Hall is a beautiful seaside building, and its elegant exterior immediately caught my eye. Inside, it opens up into a lively market where you can find everything from fresh produce to local delicacies and souvenirs. There are also plenty of food stalls and cafés to choose from. I tried reindeer soup at one of the lovely cafés inside, and it was absolutely delicious. It’s a wonderful place to explore, enjoy local flavours, and experience a bit of Helsinki’s food culture. Highly recommended when visiting the city.
Tomoe M — Google review
Tasted a good great salmon soup, cinnamon bun and non alcoholic glogi from one of stalls. Enjoyed the vibe along with locals for an afternoon tea and hopefully, able to visit to the market hall again. Highly recommended for those who plan to visit Helsinki city centre:)

Beautiful historic market with a great atmosphere. Nice place to try Finnish specialties like smoked salmon, reindeer meat, and pastries. A bit small and prices can be high, but worth visiting for the experience.

Senate Square is a grand public space in Helsinki, showcasing impressive neoclassical architecture and serving as the focal point of the city's political, religious, and academic life. The square features the magnificent Helsinki Cathedral, Government Palace, and Helsinki University's main building. It was completed in 1852 to honor Tsar Nicholas of Russia and is a key element of Engel's grand city plan. Nearby, the Tori Quarter offers modern amenities within revitalized neoclassical buildings.
It’s indeed a beautiful church, in the centre of the city. Was undergoing renovations in back portion of the church. Basement has a cafe and exhibition space, and brick styled (entrance from a separate way), though can also enter from inside of the church.

I mean it’s a square alright. Very nice buildings around. Obviously topped by the big dog, namely the Helsinki cathedral. No fee to enter obviously, it’s a public area. The downside was that there was work ongoing in the cathedral which kind of dulls the photos but hey, it was still great
Jjj M — Google review
Visited Senate Square during our time in Helsinki 🇫🇮 — it’s one of the main tourist spots in the city and the starting point for the hop-on hop-off bus 🚌. The square is clean, spacious, and offers a stunning view of the iconic Helsinki Cathedral ⛪️. A beautiful place to sit, take photos, and soak in the city’s calm charm. Definitely a must-visit! 🌤️

Senate Square, located in the center of Helsinki, Finland. The square is the oldest part of Helsinki and is Europe's most beautiful square. The large white building at the back, with green dome is Helsinkis cathedral, constructed between 1830 and 1852, as a tribute to Emperor Nicholas I of Russia. It is covered due to repairs and maintenance. Alexander II's statue, is in the center of the square, remembered for supporting Finnish Economy. The square is surrounded by neoclassical buildings like Govt. Palace, Helsinki's university building etc. Quiet awesome I must say, fabulously so.
Neeru D — Google review
We did the introduction walking tour of the gpsmycity, the tour was 3.1km in length and took us a few hours to complete, including taking pictures and stops. The tour started right here at the square and and ended at the Temppeliaukio Rock Church. It was a good introduction and the scenery was marvelous.
Patrick X — Google review
Visited Senaatintori, the historic heart of Helsinki, but unfortunately much of the square was under renovation during our visit. The main cathedral and surrounding buildings were partially covered with a temporary facade, which made it hard to fully appreciate the architecture. The square itself is spacious and historically significant, and it would normally be a stunning spot to admire Helsinki Cathedral, government buildings, and cobblestone layout. Worth visiting if you’re in the area, but be aware that the view may be obstructed during renovations.
SY — Google review
This is the main square in Helsinki. It’s not very big but it’s definitely a must see. Apart from the statue of Alexander II you can see the most important buildings of the city from here.

Helsinki Cathedral

Sights & Landmarks
Helsinki Cathedral, designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, is a grand neoclassical landmark with an iconic green dome. Located in the heart of Helsinki at Senate Square, it attracts both locals and tourists throughout the day. The cathedral's gleaming-white facade stands out against the cityscape and is particularly striking when illuminated at night. With its towering central dome and four smaller surrounding domes, this iconic structure took over 20 years to build and was completed in 1852.
It was under construction, but still a sight and experience to behold! I recommend as a visit. My family and I enjoyed it. Outside near the church is great space to walk around and nearby restaurants to eat.
Linda N — Google review
Beautiful church. Unfortunately, it was being renovated on the exterior when I visited... so that took away from the overall astetics. Also, the inside was a little stark compared to other cathedrals I've visited in Europe, but I still think it's worth a visit if you are in Helsinki.
Paul C — Google review
Helsinki Cathedral is one of those landmarks that instantly takes your breath away. Standing tall above Senate Square, the white neoclassical façade with its green domes is iconic from every angle — whether you see it from the harbor, the square, or climbing up the grand steps. Inside, the cathedral is calm and minimalist, a beautiful contrast to its imposing exterior. The high ceilings and soft natural light create a sense of quiet majesty, and it feels more like a space for reflection than decoration. The views from the steps are also worth it — you can look out across the city and the harbor, making it a perfect photo spot. It’s free to enter, easy to reach in the heart of Helsinki, and honestly a must-see whether you’re into architecture, photography, or just soaking up the city’s atmosphere.
Louie F — Google review
Beautiful cathedral! Make sure to also visit the nearby Uspenski Cathedral. Unfortunately, this one was under construction, so we couldn’t experience it fully, but the restoration work was covered nicely, giving a good sense of its full appearance. The interior was lovely — definitely a must-see if you’re already in Helsinki!
Ryan K — Google review
We had a special experience visiting Helsinki Cathedral as they were displaying Luke Jerram’s MARS within the cathedral. Cathedral is beautiful in itself but seeing the scaled replica of Mars with the sound track made for a unique experience. The cathedral is something to see when visiting Helsinki
Andrea D — Google review
Helsinki Cathedral is a landmark right in the heart of the city, and it is truly breathtaking at any time of day. Morning, afternoon, or night — the atmosphere changes beautifully, and each visit feels different. You can climb the steps and enter the cathedral, where the calm and solemn interior offers a moment of quiet reflection. During my stay in Helsinki, I found myself visiting almost every day. From 28 November onwards, a Christmas market is held in the square in front of the cathedral, making the area even more lively and festive. My schedule didn’t allow me to attend this year, but watching the preparations made me want to return and experience it in the future. A stunning place that never fails to impress.
Tomoe M — Google review
It was a pleasant tourist attraction with a large square. Regrettably, several areas were undergoing renovation during our visit. However, there were still a considerable number of tourists present.

Helsinki Cathedral and it truly lives up to its reputation as one of the city’s must see landmarks. The white neoclassical building looks stunning both up close and from the Senate Square below. Inside it’s peaceful and beautifully simple a nice place to pause for a moment away from the city noise. Don’t miss the view from the steps outside; it’s a perfect spot to sit, take photos, and just enjoy the atmosphere.

Esplanadi Park, established in 1812, is a picturesque green space with tree-lined avenues and a stage for live music performances. Designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, the park features sculptures, flowerbeds, and a vibrant atmosphere with ice cream vendors, locals relaxing on the grass, buskers, and market-style stalls during warmer months. It is also home to Kappeli, one of Helsinki's oldest restaurants serving classic Finnish cuisine.
Clean park with lots of people just relaxing or taking a break from work. There’s a nice open area where everyone can gather to enjoy a concert (Depends on the day of the week as well). There are many seagulls here so you might not want to bring food.

Located in the heart of Helsinki, this area is surrounded by plenty of shops and restaurants. You can visit Stockmann, a large nearby mall, or stop by Starbucks or the Moomin Shop. There’s also an Arabica store where you can find some cute Moomin-themed items. A great place to explore and enjoy the city’s atmosphere!

Esplanade Park is a very popular small park in the city centre of Helsinki. At the other end of the park there is famous Swedish Theater with its restaurants, and at the other end there is even more famous restaurant Kappeli. On a beautiful summer day, Esplanade Park is full of people sitting there, eating ice cream or drinking a beer or a cola and enjoying Finland's all too short summer.
Hannu T — Google review
Esplanadi is a lovely spot right in the heart of Tampere. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, as it is clean, well kept, and full of life during the summer months. There is a good balance between green space and places to sit and relax, which makes it ideal for a coffee break or simply watching people go by. The location is perfect too, with shops nearby and close to the main attractions. I give it 4 stars mainly because although it is beautiful, it can become quite crowded during the busiest hours, which slightly affects the peaceful vibe. Still, it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the city.

The Helsinki Central Railway Station is a beautiful and awe-inspiring building located in the heart of Helsinki, Finland. The station was newly designed in 1909 to modernize it and accommodate the ever-growing demand for rail transportation. The two statues at the station symbolize the whole Finnish railway system, which has gained success thanks to recent TV commercials.
What a stunning building! Helsinki Central Station is not just a train hub, but an architectural masterpiece. It's incredibly efficient, easy to navigate, and a perfect gateway to explore the city. Definitely worth admiring even if you're not catching a train.

Beautiful from the outside but undergoing many renovations that make it very inconvenient and hard for foreign travelers to find any services. When I finally found the VR office, employees ignored me until they finished their personal conversation. The beautiful wooden doors are a major pain when it comes to getting through them with luggage-wish they were automated

Gordon M — Google review
Very large main train station to the center of Helsinki. Plenty of ways to get here and relatively easy to read the signs to figure out where to go. Trains and terminal are relatively well covered so you only need to venture out occasionally in the bad weather to get to your train.
John D — Google review
Railway station is very historic and the architecture is fabulous. And it comes with all the modern facilities like locker storage, info center, VR office, and other shops like subway starbucks and fancy restaurants. The waiting area is huge, however benches are limited which are mostly occupied with drunk people if you come late or early morning. Connected to most of the areas with metro and tram and also a cab station.
RupeemeetsEuro — Google review
The outside of the station is stunning with its clock tower and the Lantern Bearer statues. Inside it was clean, light and airy. There were places to eat, luggage storage and toilets. You do have to pay for the toilets. Cards are accepted. I did not use them, so I cannot comment on cleanliness. There was a ticket office. For HSL trains, you can choose your zones and tap on when you board. AB tickets are valid for 80 minutes and can be used on other transport modes. ABCD zones are valid for 110 minutes and allow transfer to other modes. Tickets can also be purchased online. Day tickets can be purchased. The station is disability accessible. There is an assistance point at platform eleven. There are accessible toilets.

This unique space provides an opportunity for personal introspection and tranquility within the heart of the bustling city center.

Very small Chapel in the centre of Helsinki. Nicely designed mostly wood . Closed on a Sunday which I found odd for a religious building. Inside silence must be observed .
Peter M — Google review
1 | A very interesting chapel in the center of Helsinki, notable for its unusual architectural design. It is made entirely of wood and has received several architectural awards. 2 | Unfortunately, we couldn’t go inside because it was Sunday. Strangely enough, the chapel is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Nevertheless, it is so remarkable that it’s worth seeing even from the outside. 3 | The entrance fee to the chapel is €5. I can’t really say whether it’s worth paying. 4 | The chapel was only opened in 2012, designed by the Finnish architectural studio K2S Architects. It is 11.5 meters high, and the section with the altar has no windows at all.

The Kamppi Chapel, often called the “Chapel of Silence,” is a truly unique experience in the middle of busy Helsinki. The modern wooden architecture is stunning, and stepping inside feels instantly calming — a peaceful escape from the noise of the city. It’s not about religious services but about offering a quiet moment for reflection and stillness. A beautiful example of design meeting purpose, and a must-visit if you want a few minutes of tranquility during your trip.
William O — Google review
Interesting building made from a variety of woods. Inside it is very quiet if you are not inside with rude tourists! You are asked to be silent inside the chapel. It is just the chapel room, we were there maybe 10-15 minutes max so it’s easy to slot into a busy schedule and take a breather.
Jo E — Google review
Very nice chapel. Of course, it’s quite a sight externally. €3 it cost to enter, which was fine. It’s a shame that pictures aren’t allowed inside, but it’s very beautiful. Silence must be observed.

Just across the square from Oodi, this wooden chapel offers a moment of absolute peace. The design is simple but powerful. As soon as you enter, the noise of the city disappears. I sat for a few minutes just enjoying the silence. It's a beautiful reminder to slow down.

The Kamppi Chapel, also known as the Chapel of Silence, is a unique and serene space nestled in the bustling heart of Helsinki. On a sunny day, the chapel's wooden structure glows warmly, inviting visitors to step inside and escape the city's hustle and bustle. The chapel's minimalist design creates a tranquil atmosphere, perfect for quiet reflection and contemplation. The gentle curve of the wooden walls and the soft natural light filtering through the skylight create a sense of peace and calm. It's a place where you can truly disconnect from the outside world and find a moment of stillness. Located in the Kamppi district, the chapel is easily accessible by Helsinki Regional Transport (HSL) zones A and B. It's just a short walk from the Kamppi metro station and several bus and tram lines. This makes it a convenient stop for anyone exploring the city center. Whether you're seeking a moment of peace, an architectural experience, or simply a break from the city, the Kamppi Chapel is well worth a visit. Nestled in the heart of Helsinki, Temppeliaukio Church is a unique attraction known for its distinctive architecture. Carved directly into solid rock, the church features rock and rubble interior walls, complemented by a striking copper-lined dome and skylight windows that allow natural light to filter in. This popular venue also hosts concerts and offers visitors a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
Temppeliaukio Church is one of the main tourist attractions in Helsinki. Tourists come there by bus, by vans, by walking... 8 euro entrance fee doesn't matter, people wanna see what is "must see" in Helsinki. So, tourists who have only one or two days time to spend in Helsinki prefer to visit Temppeliaukio Church. One can hear there a real mix of languages. No doubt, Temppeliaukio Church is worth of visit. It is architecturally a very special building. To create this kind of church - a church excavated into the rock, with a dome made from copper strip for ideal acoustics, with ceiling windows for natural light to come in - has been a genious insight. Even though there were so many visitors in Temppeliaukio Church when we were there, I enjoyed very much to finally see well this church.
Hannu T — Google review
Temppeliaukio Church, also known as the Rock Church, is a stunning example of modern architecture. Designed by architect brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen, the church was completed in 1969 and is carved directly into solid granite. Its unique design features a massive copper dome and natural rock walls, creating a serene and awe-inspiring atmosphere. The interior is circular, with natural light streaming in through 180 window panes, highlighting the rough-hewn rock surfaces. The acoustics are exceptional, making it a popular venue for concerts and events. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful ambiance and admire the innovative design that blends nature and architecture seamlessly. While the €8 entrance fee is reasonable for such a unique experience, it's advisable to check the schedule for any events or services that might be taking place during your visit. Overall, Temppeliaukio Church is a must-visit attraction in Helsinki, offering a memorable experience for architecture enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

This distinctive church, renowned among tourists, features two stories. For those interested in photography, I would suggest going upstairs, as it offers a more convenient angle to capture the captivating interior. Please be aware that there is an entrance fee.

Beautiful and interesting church. Worth a visit. You do not need a long visit but nice to take a look around and admire the structure. NOTE: They do not have any public restrooms when you are visiting
Andrea D — Google review
We visited this "stone church" or "church in the rock" on purpose. The relatively expensive admission fee (€8) is surprising, as it discourages tourists who are only interested in taking photos, but also those who would like to appreciate the unique architectural design and modern sacred atmosphere, which is truly unique. We sat listening to pleasant ambient music for about 40 minutes and silently watched the preparations for the event, when hundreds of (unfortunately electronic) candles were lit. The visit was pleasant, and the space invites you to return just for the atmosphere. However, due to the not-so-symbolic admission fee (especially for poor visitors from Eastern Europe), I would think twice about it.
Michal S — Google review
I loved the architecture of this church beautifully made - never seen anything quite like it !! Thus i find the ticket pricing should be at least 5 euros when theres no service as theres not a lot to see , its just one main room.

Unique church, luckily a pipe organ artist came in to practice when we were visiting. The music was phenomenal. The church is very acoustic, must be ideal for a concert experience. And there’s no cross in the church. We learned it’s the open heart of Christ accepting everyone with any religion.

The Helsinki Tram Museum, also known as the Tram Museum, is a unique attraction managed by the Helsinki City Museum in Taka-Toolo. It offers an engaging experience for visitors of all ages, and it's free to enter. The museum showcases the history of tram transportation in Helsinki with informative displays available in multiple languages. Visitors can explore old tram carriages and even take a seat inside one to get a feel for what traveling on trams was like in the past.
Great FREE museum about the history of the Helsinki Tram network with around 30-40 minutes worth of content. Make sure you go to both sides as it’s not initially obvious there are two areas. Well worth a visit when in the area.

Nice and beautiful collection about public transport in Helsinki. You can see plenty of old trams and even board some. The museum is free and the staff is great.
Arnout I — Google review
The Helsinki Tram Museum is perfect for anyone interested in history, transport, or simply discovering a unique side of the city. Although compact in size, the museum offers a surprisingly rich experience. The highlight is the beautifully preserved trams from different eras—you can step inside some of them and really imagine what life in Helsinki might have felt like decades ago. The attention to detail is wonderful, from old ticket machines and conductor uniforms to historical maps and photos. Everything is presented in a way that is engaging for both adults and children. You can explore it in about an hour, which makes it easy to combine with other sightseeing nearby. Entry is free, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable if you want to learn more. Overall, the Tram Museum feels like stepping into a nostalgic time capsule of Helsinki’s everyday life. It’s not flashy or large-scale, but it has character, authenticity, and a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit if you want something offbeat and local in Helsinki.

Although admission to this museum is free, I was a little disappointed; compared to all the other places I visited in Helsinki, it was a bit of a letdown. It's a shame that something as fantastic as Helsinki's transportation system, which is so well organized, is presented in an exhibition where you learn very little information and see only a few exhibits.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ **5/5 – A Charming and Nostalgic Visit to the Helsinki Tram Museum** The Helsinki Tram Museum is an absolute delight! It perfectly blends history, nostalgia, and hands-on exploration. The restored trams are beautifully maintained, and stepping inside them feels like traveling back through Helsinki’s past. The exhibits are well-curated and informative without ever feeling overwhelming. Everything is presented in a way that’s engaging for both adults and kids, making it a great stop for families, history enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the city’s transport heritage. The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff is friendly, and the museum is easy to explore at your own pace. It’s a small gem that leaves a big impression. Highly recommended for a fun, unique, and surprisingly memorable experience!

Really cool place to visit if you have a free hour in Helsinki. The admission is free, there are some information on the history of public transportation in the city (could be more, it feels a little bit incomplete), and some trams from different eras. You can also check out some of them from the inside, sit in the drivers chair even! There is also a tiny museum shop, free toilets (could be cleaner) and storage for your bag/coat. Must be a great activity with children as well, for this "price", I think give it a chance.
Ronó — Google review
Lovely, toddler-friendly tram museum! Free entrance, spotless, and packed with fun for kids. It’s small, but our little one could’ve stayed all day without getting bored. Highly recommend!
Nirodha R — Google review
Stepping into the Tram Museum of Helsinki, I was struck by the charm of this seemingly modest space. Despite its size, the museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the history and evolution of tram transportation in Helsinki. What stood out to me the most was how the museum brilliantly captures the essence of tram travel, both past and present. From vintage tram designs to modern innovations, the exhibits vividly illustrate the evolution of tram technology and design over the years. It's remarkable to see how the functionality and aesthetics of trams have evolved while still maintaining the familiar vibe that Helsinki residents have come to know and love. One unique feature of the museum that truly enhances the experience is the flooring. As I walked through the exhibits, the sensation of walking on rocks underfoot transported me back to the feeling of riding a tram along the bustling streets of Helsinki. It's a subtle yet effective touch that adds authenticity to the museum experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves fully in the nostalgia of tram travel. In essence, the Tram Museum of Helsinki may be small in size, but it packs a punch in terms of historical significance and immersive atmosphere. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in exploring the rich heritage of tram transportation in Helsinki and experiencing a touch of nostalgia along the way.

A one stop shopping centre for most of your home needs. From restaurants to pharmacy, specs shop, clothing and DNA phone provider, just to name a few. Likely also homing the nicest cafe in Hyvinkkää town, Kulmakonditoria. Parking is plenty of going by car. And it's easy to get to from the train station. (Translated by Google) The church in Hyvinkää is one of the most beautiful modern churches. The holy trinity works better than, for example, the Järvenpää or Kerava cubes. Handsome and clear on the outside. Inside, surprisingly cozy and almost intimate. The eye is focused on the altar, which is drawn by a triangular window and a triangular recess. Ruusuvuori has probably tried to replace the cross with the holy triangle, but apparently has not succeeded. Smaller halls complement the main hall well. The floor of the church is at ground level and brings the surrounding nature nicely close. (Original) Hyvinkään kirkko on moderneista kirkoista hienoimpia.

Nice musem in the core of hyvinkää with a great variety of changing exhibitions. Friendly, welcoming staff. The place was very kid friendly! A lot of activities for kids while also making it interesting for adults. They always have a crafting place which has a different theme every time the exhibition changes.

The Finnish Railway Museum

Museum
Historical landmark
19th-century station & engine shed setting for railway history museum with rolling stock collection.
Very nice and a well arranged place. Many train models are exhibited. Exhibits are well preserved. Sound effects in the exhibition halls are really nice. Anyway, it's bit difficult to see inside of some trains due to dust accumulation on the windows. Overall, recommended for both kids and adults. there is a special area for kids for some activities too. And a tiny train operates across the garden during the summer. You can have a ride. Just a short walk from Hyvinkää railway station. Staff is very friendly.
Rehan M — Google review
Great view over the history of the Finnish railways. Many old locomotives to see. There's also a cafe outside with a possibility to hop on a small train that rides around the park area during the summer time and when it is dry.
Juho Ä — Google review
Great half-day trip from Helsinki! The Finnish Railway Museum is perfect for families with kids. The miniature train ride in the garden is a highlight. There’s also a fun indoor play area with wooden train sets, drawing corners, and even a real locomotive they can climb into. The museum is just a 10-minute walk from Hyvinkää train station, making it super easy to reach from Helsinki. The museum grounds are spacious, with well-preserved station buildings and outdoor displays that feel like walking through a piece of history. A most to-do if you’re in Uusimaa.
Catalin M — Google review
Great museum with unexpectedly beautiful and nice renovated trains. The condition of the locomotives are very good and during my visit there was some outdoor event as well with some modern trains and a running locomotive. It was great to visit and just around the corner from where I was living.
Sander V — Google review
Great collection of historic trains. Several free entrance days, worth watching out for. Some days in the summer of steam trains running... But many more days a diesel is running. The park "ride on" train is nice, a 3min lap of the grounds for 1euro each. (Only runs in the summer)
Gabriel P — Google review
The museum located in an old locomotive depot. A lot of rare trains as steam locomotive's. Very nice place!
Mike C — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit thanks to the plurality of trains exhibited there. Despite the fact that the big hall is not heated, it was really pleasant being able to go really close to all sort of trains, and even to take look into the inside from the windows. The only negative point is that a big part of the presentation signs are only written in finnish and not translated.
Baptiste V — Google review
One of the most interesting museums in Finland. The Uusimaa area is full of quirky modern art museums so it’s exciting to visit a history themed one that provides insight into the development of not only railway but also technology and the entire country as a whole. The museum’s premise is large, with many things to see and experience.

Very fun and we'll kept adventure park. Lots of variety on the routes from easy to very challenging and plenty to do for both kids and grownups. Beautiful forest area surrounds the activities.
Maria S — Google review
On summer time you can meet the challenges high above the ground, hanging on the ropes and wabble on the platforms, safely though. On winter the funniest thing you can do is to use the several sledding hills nearby, one of them is a former ski jump slope. And always, of course, swimming baths and sauna awaits you at the end, just couple hundred meters away.
Lasse N — Google review
We (a family of three) visited this summer. To get straight to the point, it's too high and not adapted for smaller children. The staff should prevent kids under a certain age to actually go there or at least, inform the parents that the "easy" tracks are actually not that easy, and certainly not suitable for a six year old. The kiipeily keskus in Helsinki are much more adapted to kids with specific tracks for kids which are awesome. In Hyvinkää, at the end we felt you just pay and that's that.

Water & Amusement Parks
Serena Water Park is a large water park in Europe that offers a variety of pools, slides, and spas suitable for all ages. The park features thrilling rides like Villi Virta and provides amenities such as lockers and dining options. Visitors can bring their own food and enjoy the day at the park from opening to closing time. With indoor and outdoor attractions, it's an enjoyable destination for both kids and adults alike.
An fantastic waterpark for the complete family. Outside slides have been upgraded and renewed in 2024. You have a lot of slides inside and outside for all ages..baby areas, toddlers and adults. At the wintertime only inside slide open. You can also organised birthday parties there. Only thing I don't like is the restaurant. We always bring our own food. Cool box full of fruites, sandwiches and drinks brings an special family experience on low cost.
Reeni — Google review
Nice place to spend time lot for kid to do. Get little overcrowded inside when they close outside due thunderstorm for a while. Get very load noice instead when all people was inside same time. Food at place very slow, ketchup was empty many say about it took over 10 min for them to refill it. Que to buy food and they close second place to order food instead to have both open. Buffé not to recommend and burgers was soso. Work to buy todays ticket when buy ticket instead to upgrade afterward.
Kjell G — Google review
For a family of 5 and all kids above 8yo awesome place as all attractions are suitable. Highly recommend renting the cottage as well.
Kristjan P — Google review
Extremely clean, beautiful, and exciting. I wish it was grass instead of asphalt.
سعید غ — Google review
Great overall experience. Perhaps they could do something to ease the queuing for food in hot weather. They could have some water fountains as well, that would help as I heard a mother telling her kid not to drink from the pool as she saw a floating piece of poop. I want to believe it was just her way to warn her kid from the dirty water. 🥲
Adri E — Google review
Parking 5e per day. You can park and pay at the machine near the entrance. During 12pm, there was separate queue available for advanced booking. They allows outside food and there are dining spaces. Better to go with swimming suits or shorts as all others will be wearing those. Locker facility available in the dressing room, take 2euro coins to access them. Hair dryers are available in the dressing room. Many rides are indoor. First aid medicines are kept there.
S J — Google review
Serena is the best water park in Finland and open all year, although the outdoor attractions are closed during the winter season. About half of the water slides are indoors, and the indoor area is warm all year. The park offers waterslides for the whole family, and the biggest ones serve also the slightly daring ones. A mediocre restaurant offers burgers, a buffet lunch and some smaller snacks and during summer time there is also an ice cream kiosk. Serena is a great day trip distance on a beautiful summer day.
Viliina L — Google review
Good waterpark, a lot of sides for all ages. But if you looking for saunas and relaxation, better go somewhere else. Also, you have to bring money or card if you are going to the restaurant, it is not so convenient.

Kaitalampi is a stunning lake in southern Finland, known as one of the best spots for open water swimming. It offers two marked routes, one spanning 1km and the other just over 2km, with clear waters and beautiful scenery. The area features several campfire sites by the lakeside and is easily accessible via public transport. Kaitalampi is also praised for its picturesque landscape, making it an ideal location for hiking and camping.
Are you a nature enthusiasts? Hiking along Kaitalampi Lake with its serene lakeshore and stunning scenery is a must-experience forest trail. Keep to the marked hiking route on the map as the mobile network practically doesn’t exist Incase of emergency in dense wilderness . It was an amazing experience near this peaceful, mirror-like lakes.
Maria S — Google review
Perfect for open water swim training. Deep yet close shores so it makes me feel not so scare swimming there. Dog swim is forbidden to maintain the quality of the water but I still see dogs swimming in some corners of the lake. One time I saw a guy scuba diving here. Good idea is to bring some sausages as the proof BBQ is right close by the deck. WC and clothes changing spots are available. Good walking trail around the lake and also camping spots
Thuy N — Google review
There are several paths and grill places next to lake. Would be way better during spring and summer

Some holes are in construction/ maintenance. Thus, they do not feel nice, especially some fairway grass near the green. Quite hard to find balls in side penalty area. So hit the balls carefully 😄

Great course and club house facilities, but service was not up to par! Update visit August 2018: Service has improved drastically and food (burger) was great. Course was in excellent condition and marshal kept slower slower players in schedule.
Juuso I — Google review
Only commenting regarding their padel courts. Bigger white lines which is also raised a bit compared to the other green surface which gives the ball different bounces. Not so straight/level court, more "wavy". Lot of debris on the court, but it was probably because of a windy day. Hopefully the staff were there and scraped off debris in the beginning of the day. If you want to play padel outside, go somewhere else instead of Hirsala padel courts.
Fredrik P — Google review
A tight course in between a pine forest. Usually on great condition. Bring a few extra balls if you're crooked off the tee, this course isn't easy.

Lakeside villa designed in 1903 by a trio of renowned Finnish architects, with guided tours.
Fantastic weather to sit down and relax with a nice hot cup of coffee and pastry and enjoy the sun and peace at the cafeteria terrace followed by a visit to the museum and a pleasant walk around the gardens and then through the countryside down to the beach, the whole experience was truly amazing.

Visited the manore together with a Ukrainian guide who gave us a nice excursion into the life and world of three renowned architects and their families who lived there. Now the museum is open only in the part of Saarinen premises. The entrance fee into the museum is 10-15 euros. The territory around is wonderful. There is a open air cafe open from June there. Definitely worth visiting.

Fun place to ski with family and friends. Good for beginners as well. Equipment renting facility available. Only downside would be that its a bit expensive to come several times a month.
Kanwar L — Google review
Some facilities are a bit crammed and there are definitively more impressive fields and club buildings elsewhere. The attractiveness very close to five stars comes from the fact that everything works, there's basically everything available that a golfer needs, and the two courses provide a lot of variety to the game. A separate PAR 3 course increases the overall rating so much that I'd want to give a half star for it. The value for money is absolutely five-star class.
