The Finnish Aviation Museum, situated in Vantaa, Finland, is a top-notch establishment dedicated to preserving and displaying the rich aviation history of the country. Since its establishment in 1969, the museum has amassed an impressive collection of aircraft, engines, and aviation artifacts. Visitors can immerse themselves in exhibits that showcase the evolution of both military and civilian aviation through vintage aircraft displays, flight simulators, and interactive presentations.
It's a nice place to see and learn about aviation history. You can have free chance to try to be a pilot who is flying around the city and about to land. I see you can also book advance for some experience there.
An N — Google review
It was a very interesting collection of aircraft with an excellent free audio guide. Military and civilian. Sadly the coffee was only out of a flask so as a Melburnian I couldn’t do that. But overall quirky but interesting collection. I walked to it from the nearby railway station in 8 minutes.
Paul C — Google review
A great collection showcasing a fascinating part of aviation history, particularly related to Finnair. The DC-3 displayed outside is in excellent condition, and for me, the highlight of the museum was the Convair. You can comfortably explore the entire collection in under two hours. I just wish the museum store had a bit more items related to the Finnish aviation.
Dan S — Google review
Visited in January, a bit over an hour before closing time. Still there were many other people visiting, but not too much that it would've been bothersome. Quite cold in the hangars as there was no heating and it was a cold winter day but it was fine. Lots of aircraft and parts and engines etc. I feel like there is something that could be added to enhance the experience — not sure what exactly — that's why the four stars and not five. Overall a great museum though and well worth a visit.
Amon — Google review
Great look into the history of Finnish aviation! A wide range of airplanes on display and some of them even for a visit in. There is a free-of-charge jet fighter simulator to try as well. Great place for a rainy day visit!
Juho Ä — Google review
Small, informative, helpful, enjoyed the lunch at the cafe.
Anil S — Google review
A well curated look into Finland's military and civilian aviation. The first hangar has various fighter and trainer planes from the air forces, most having stair so you can see into the cockpit as well. The second hangar has Finnair and its predecessors' planes, with a Convair 440 where you can visit the cabin as well. There's also a lot of plane related items, from engines, propellers and several old simulators as well.
Ari S — Google review
Really nice and big place. Lots of interesting to see as per history and tech. Can recommend. A bit cold facilities and no heating in the halls. Unfortunately it looks like future spaces are way too small. Let's see. Does not look good.

The location of the subway station Itäkeskus is convenient for residents of Mellunmaki or Vuosaari, although the surrounding area is often unclean. However, within the station vicinity lies a diverse range of amenities, including food, clothing, furniture, and medications. The nearby ITIS mall offers an expansive and extraordinary shopping experience worth exploring. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of halal foods available there.
A lot of stores, pharmacy and restaurants, movie theater.Almost anything you need is here!

The place location is convenient for those who live in Mellunmäki or Vuosaari but the territory around Itis is a most of the time dirty. Yet you can find all you want from food and clothes to furniture and medications there. Thumbsup :)

This metro station in Eastern Helsinki is a junction station. Metro from here diverges and continues to Mellunmaki or Vuosaari. Between Tapiola to Itakeskus, there is only single meteo line i.e., all metros pass through all stations.

Very nice place to hang around and do shopping/ dinning.

Winter World in Helsinki is a must-visit for those seeking an authentic Finnish winter experience. The indoor attraction maintains a chilly temperature of -3 degrees Celsius, allowing visitors to enjoy various activities such as an ice maze, dog sledding, and interacting with friendly huskies. It's a popular spot for families and groups of friends looking for unique experiences. The venue offers different activities like skiing and visiting the ice bar and igloo.
We only had a few hours to spend in Helsinki, but we loved Winter World. The staff was amazing and it was a highlight of our Baltic Sea cruise.
Douglas B — Google review
Fun experience, though it isn't huge inside so do not expect an "all day visit" so of thing. The ice maze was cool, no pun intended. The dogs were really sweet and playful. I did not pay for one of dog sled rides but did get to interact with them and pet them.
Ashley G — Google review
Nice place to visit. Big hall with different activities (ski, husky experience, ice bar, iglo, ...) we went with a big group of colleagues and made a lot of fun. Very friendly service. Loved it!
N. L — Google review
For the price you are paying for the entrance it's overpriced and not much of activities to do there. 1 ice slide and no hills at all to use the slays or ski. You won't spend there more than 20-30 min. Vodka shot is nice, but you only can get vodka from that ice bar, nothing else, would be nice if they actually had more drinks to offer. Not satisfied...
Viktoriia D — Google review
Great idea and lovely people working there BUT the sounds of the dogs barking/crying ruined my experience. Those poor animals, they obviously aren't happy there. Would have enjoyed myself a lot more if there weren't dog slaves.
Michelle C — Google review
Beautiful, lots of new ce activities only thing I didn't like is poot dog's that are forced to run skii for all the visitors all day

Heureka

Science museum
Museums
Heureka is a renowned science center located in Vantaa, Finland. It features a main exhibition with over 200 interactive scientific exhibits from various fields, a world-class digital planetarium, and a science park. The center aims to spark an interest in science among children through its hands-on and interactive displays. Additionally, Heureka hosts two temporary exhibitions and has provided traveling exhibitions to numerous countries worldwide. The center's focus on making learning fun and engaging is in line with Finland's progressive educational approach.
Amazing Science Learning Experience at Heureka Science Centre👍👍 Located in Tikkurila, the Heureka Science Centre is an incredible place that makes learning both fun and effective. This Finnish museum offers a unique, hands-on experience that allows schoolchildren to explore science in an engaging and interactive way. After spending just one or two days here, students can easily absorb knowledge equivalent to two or three years of a standard school science curriculum – and enjoy every minute of it! In addition to the main exhibition, Heureka regularly features fascinating themed sections that provide even deeper learning experiences. We were lucky to visit during the Experience the World in the Last Ice Age exhibition, which focused on the amazing animals that lived during that period. The life-sized models were so realistic they felt almost alive, creating an unforgettable and immersive atmosphere that truly brought the Ice Age to life. The exhibitions are creative, well-designed, and accessible to children of different ages. Everything is built to inspire curiosity and understanding through play, discovery, and experimentation. I highly recommend Heureka to families, educators, and anyone interested in making science come alive.
Yaroslav R — Google review
We had a fantastic time at the Heureka Science Museum! It’s the perfect spot for both kids and adults who love to explore, discover, and get hands-on with science. The exhibitions are interactive, creative, and beautifully designed to make learning fun and engaging. Our favorites were ice age exhibitions and the outdoor science park, which added an extra layer of excitement. Everything is well-organized, and most exhibits are available in multiple languages, including English and Finnish. Highly recommended for families, tourists, and anyone who enjoys a day full of curiosity and wonder!
Valentina M — Google review
Space exhibition was definitely worth a visit. My first visit to Heureka was over 30 years ago, but it still keeps surprising and the exhibitions are always interesting. Ice age moving mammoths and other animals were also interesting as usually you only experiment those as still standing setups. Visited it this on a regular Sunday, but might be interesting to visit during the themed NOX evening, when whole place is K18 and specific themed program is available as well.
Miika K — Google review
Very nice and well executed science museum full of varied exhibits and demonstrations that take place throughout the day. The Ice Age animal exhibition was my favorite and my son really loved getting to build and test his own race car. This is a great way to spend several hours either the family! And the cafe has excellent food as well.
Kelly M — Google review
You can't but tickets online the same day, this is kind of strange. The parking is on the other side on the railroad – another oddity. The science center is huge and impressive though. Went here with two kids : 5 and 2.5. The older one was excited to try everything, however the most interesting things require 140cm of height and were unavailable for him. The small one was scared of the ice age animals but otherwise liked the museum. The cafe is extremely expensive, the buffet is mediocre. I'd recommend this place for 10+
Anastasia ( — Google review
Went there with 2 kids, aged 6 and 8. The kids were just the perfect age. They tested everything. We spent the all day there. Conveniently 5 minutes walk from Tikkurila station
Céline K — Google review
Heureka is one of the must visit place in Vantaa. They havr variety of things(especially science and technology) to do and to see especially with kids, many creative, active, imaginative activities are available. But this tike they hace something special. The Ice Age Era which you can see a lot of animals from ice age, 14.000 years ago. They have some explanation about the animal, what happened to them and many more. You can see how big they are omgggg. They have a space which they train some rats to do some interesting activities, a section to know what blind people feel, a plac

Kuusijärvi

Kuusijärvi, located just north of Helsinki in Vantaa, is a popular year-round recreational center offering various activities for families and visitors. In the summer, it's known for its excellent swimming facilities and sandy beach, while in winter, it offers cross-country skiing opportunities. One of its highlights is the public smoke sauna called Savusauna, providing a unique experience for visitors to enjoy the sauna before cooling off with a swim in Lake Kuusijarvi.
Feeling bored??? Pack your swimming costumes and head for this place. You can go swimming, do grilling, have fun in sauna, play outdoor sports, lay on the beach for the warmth of the sun, opt for a walk and so on. You can literally have fun in way more options you will find here. You will enjoy more with your own buddies or hang out with anyone as well. Loved every bit of time here.
SHWETA C — Google review
Ice skated in the lake with a layer of thin snow and thick ice, very nice 🙌🙌
Daffa B — Google review
The smoke saunas are truly authentic, and we met plenty of locals while we were there, which is always a good sign. It is very easy to reach by public transport and also makes the perfect stop after a hike on one of the many beautiful nearby trails. Practical tip: Bring your flip-flops and shower gel, though both are available for purchase on site. You can also rent towels if needed. A word about timing: The smoke sauna opens at 2 pm, and the temperature gradually drops throughout the day. Because it is heated in the traditional way, there is no thermostat, so the temperature cannot be controlled or predicted precisely. Early in the day, around 3 pm, it can reach up to 135°C (275°F), which most people would find far too intense. By the end of the day, it may drop to around 50°C (122°F), which could feel a bit too mild. From what we gathered, the sweet spot tends to be between 4 and 7 pm for most people, but it really depends on the day. If the smoke sauna happens to be too hot or not hot enough during your visit, the electric saunas in the main building are excellent. There are two for men, and we assume there are also two for women. Each one has its own character and charm. They are designed in an authentic Finnish way and offer a great alternative or complement to the smoke sauna. Important to know: Swimsuits are required in the smoke sauna and in all outdoor areas, including when cooling down in the lake. In the electric gender-separated saunas, however, you are not supposed to wear anything and are expected to use a seat pad. We went in naked, but we did notice that even some locals kept their swimsuits on, so it seems you are free to wear whatever makes you most comfortable. The lake itself is lovely. It has a few clearly marked very shallow areas, ideal for children or anyone who prefers not to go too deep. But most of the lake is deeper, especially by the wooden deck, reaching about three to four metres, which is perfect for a proper swim. At just €16, it is truly excellent value. While visits are technically limited to two hours, the atmosphere is relaxed. No one is watching the clock, and you will not be rushed out if you stay a little longer. There is also a cosy café serving tasty food and drinks, which makes a perfect way to wind down after your sauna session.
Thomas M — Google review
I stay around 6kms away from this place. It’s just two months since I landed in Finland and this place has already attracted me so much. I have been to this place twice so far. I take a walk on the side of the woods, take the 1.8 kms lake circle walk, feel the fresh chill breeze, journal for sometime. I love the tranquility and calmness of this place. The nature at its best. There is a proper swimming partition on one side of the lake and there are free saunas available. You can see lots of people taking bath even in end of autumn and beginning of winter. When you visit here plan to spend some good amount of time. There is also a grill available outside on the other side, so if you wanna have some grills and enjoy the nature, its a perfect place.
Rajee J — Google review
One of the best Sauna I've ever been. I'll definitely come back one day.
T Y — Google review
Beautiful natural park where you can swimming, jogging or go sauna. There is also restaurant where you can buy drinks and food. Recommend to visit in summer time.
Michael A — Google review
I simply love this place - lake, the forest path and it's easy to come by bike here, cause of the straight asphalt road heading here. Grilling and swimming are always a big plus. PS If you do not tired you can explorer in the Sipoo National Park at the same shoot!

Visitors can enjoy live demonstrations and explore unique pieces from Finland's golden age of design between 1950-1970.
What an amazing place. I was so impressed. What amazes me, is how forward the Finnish design was and is. Designs of mid century , so modern. It is really worth a visit ❤️

Interesting place! The first floor is full of the history of glass work and technology, and the second one is full of beauty.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A fascinating journey through the history of glass! A beautifully curated museum showcasing glass from the 1700s to the present day. You’ll find everything from everyday items to stunning art pieces. One of the highlights was the installation displaying glass objects arranged in a color gradient – elegant and poetic. The museum isn’t huge, but the quality of the collection makes it well worth a visit. Highly recommended for anyone interested in design, craftsmanship, or Nordic aesthetics.

The Finnish Railway Museum

Museum
Historical landmark
19th-century station & engine shed setting for railway history museum with rolling stock collection.
Very nice and a well arranged place. Many train models are exhibited. Exhibits are well preserved. Sound effects in the exhibition halls are really nice. Anyway, it's bit difficult to see inside of some trains due to dust accumulation on the windows. Overall, recommended for both kids and adults. there is a special area for kids for some activities too. And a tiny train operates across the garden during the summer. You can have a ride. Just a short walk from Hyvinkää railway station. Staff is very friendly.
Rehan M — Google review
Great view over the history of the Finnish railways. Many old locomotives to see. There's also a cafe outside with a possibility to hop on a small train that rides around the park area during the summer time and when it is dry.
Juho Ä — Google review
Great half-day trip from Helsinki! The Finnish Railway Museum is perfect for families with kids. The miniature train ride in the garden is a highlight. There’s also a fun indoor play area with wooden train sets, drawing corners, and even a real locomotive they can climb into. The museum is just a 10-minute walk from Hyvinkää train station, making it super easy to reach from Helsinki. The museum grounds are spacious, with well-preserved station buildings and outdoor displays that feel like walking through a piece of history. A most to-do if you’re in Uusimaa.
Catalin M — Google review
Great museum with unexpectedly beautiful and nice renovated trains. The condition of the locomotives are very good and during my visit there was some outdoor event as well with some modern trains and a running locomotive. It was great to visit and just around the corner from where I was living.
Sander V — Google review
Great collection of historic trains. Several free entrance days, worth watching out for. Some days in the summer of steam trains running... But many more days a diesel is running. The park "ride on" train is nice, a 3min lap of the grounds for 1euro each. (Only runs in the summer)
Gabriel P — Google review
The museum located in an old locomotive depot. A lot of rare trains as steam locomotive's. Very nice place!
Mike C — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit thanks to the plurality of trains exhibited there. Despite the fact that the big hall is not heated, it was really pleasant being able to go really close to all sort of trains, and even to take look into the inside from the windows. The only negative point is that a big part of the presentation signs are only written in finnish and not translated.
Baptiste V — Google review
One of the most interesting museums in Finland. The Uusimaa area is full of quirky modern art museums so it’s exciting to visit a history themed one that provides insight into the development of not only railway but also technology and the entire country as a whole. The museum’s premise is large, with many things to see and experience.

The rustic rooms offer a cozy and comfortable stay, with amenities such as a lounge, sauna, and free Wi-Fi. Guests can enjoy delicious meals at the traditional small restaurant on-site, which has been serving for two decades. The staff is known for their exceptional service and accommodating nature, allowing early check-ins and luggage storage.
The apartment we stayed in was even nicer in real life than the pictures showed. We were very happy about our stay, and the staff was very service-oriented and accommodating to our needs. We could check in a little bit earlier than usual, and also leave our luggage for some hours after checking out, while we were strolling around in the old town before taking out bus back to Helsinki. Thank you for a wonderful comfortable stay!

Charming bed and breakfast spot in Porvoo. A shame we only stayed one night but the accomodations were cozy and inviting. The room we stayed in had a kitchen as well as a spacious living room. The living room had a nice view of the river. It was in the center of the town and easily accessible to the old and newer areas of Povoo. This would be a nice place for summer trip with the family.
Myo K — Google review
Very cute B&B along the river in Porvoo, Finland. I stayed in the Star Room, which is a bit separated from the main property. Owner knocked on the door as I arrived. He apparently also owns the nearby restaurant Ranta-aitta, which had its commissary and bathrooms across from the property. Be aware this property and its windows all face an alley that will have fairly heavy foot traffic in the afternoon/evening hours because of the restaurant. I immediately drew all the blinds when I entered the unit. Other than that privacy inconvenience, the location is fantastic, right on the main strip of the old town of Porvoo. Inside the unit you have a nicely functional kitchen and washer/dryer (which I used and was very convenient). There's two bathrooms, one with a shower and one without. Shower is a bit small and confining, but solid. The chairs in the kitchen were not super comfortable and the wifi didn't reach the bedroom very well, so if you need to do something online for a decent amount of time the unit isn't the most ergonomic solution for this situation. There is a piano in the unit! I did not play or know if it was actually encouraged but it's something to consider. There is access to a sauna that's across the street from the main property, which I used. Its heat doesn't get much higher than 60-70ºC but with plentiful water you can get enough steam for a good sweat. Breakfast was solid.

We (two adults) stayed at Ida-Maria in Jan/2021 for two nights in ”Pieni huoneisto, puutarhanäkymä”. The room was lovely, cozy and clean. Delicious breakfast and very good service! All of this in the heart of Porvoo Old Town. Would absolutely recommend to anyone.

Nice chocolate shop. Very old. Not too big. But nothing is too big in Porvoo. Quiet village. Prices standard for northern countries (little bit expensive).

Porvoo Cathedral

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Porvoo Cathedral, located in the enchanting Porvoo Old Town, is a small 13th-century cathedral that was originally constructed with wood and later fortified with stone walls. The cathedral, an Evangelical Lutheran church built in the 15th century with some parts dating back to the 13th century, stands as one of Finland's oldest churches. It serves as the seat of the Swedish-speaking Diocese of Borga and offers a picturesque view from the nearby hill.
One of the best Cathedrals in Finland. Really enjoyed the time and peaceful environment there. The numbers on the wall, I didn't get it, was that roman chapters/verse numbers from Bible? I don't know but the place was extremely peaceful and very historical. I'd recommend this for any tourist visiting Porvoo city in Finland.
Sunny S — Google review
Located in the heart of Porvoo, this small cathedral features simple architecture and a calm atmosphere. The second floor is closed to visitors, yet the main hall still feels welcoming. At the entrance you can pick up postcards and other souvenirs, selecting the design or author you like, with an offer of your choice. I suggest visiting at least once.
Fabrizio P — Google review
Built in the 15th century with some parts from the 13th century, this is a small church in a quaint town with lots of history. If you're staying in Helsinki, I'm not sure it's worth the drive, but I am glad I went and got to see Porvoo.
H M — Google review
A great 13th century rustic cathedral serving both the locsl Sw3dish and Finnisjh communities, with a commanding view of the surrounding settlement in Porvoo, about an hr from Helsinki central, overlooking a nice small river
Wing L — Google review
The five stars are mostly for the great lecture we got from one of the volunteers. The lecture/tour seems to happen every hour or so at request. Strongly recommend doing it as it reveals so many interesting aspects of this historic building.
Clynton B — Google review
The church was probably finished in 1418, altough this is speculative. Making in One of the nations oldest, located in the heart of Old Porvoo.

Was closed for renovations, but outside was fantastic

Quaint church on top of a hill. Built in the 15th century with some parts from the 13th century. The church is small. There's a small table with souvenirs on the honor system.

The Lahti Ski Museum is a fascinating destination dedicated to Nordic skiing, offering insights into Finnish skiing history and culture. The museum's exhibits showcase a variety of old ski equipment, tools, and modern ski sports. Visitors can enjoy interactive activities such as virtual ski jumping and biathlon shooting. The museum also features a modern design and provides an engaging experience for those interested in winter sports.
The Lahti ski jumping hills are spectacular — an iconic sight and a true symbol of Finnish winter sports.

Small musem that gets out everything of the different ski sports thats possible. Nice exhibitions through the history of cross-country, biathlon, ski-jumping or snowboarding and a ski-jumping simulator and laser pistol and biatlon riffle shooting also included. Worth to see when you are at the sports centre in Lahti!
Stefan M — Google review
Interesting but quite small place. Aimed at people of all ages. Lots of interaction and games for kids and like minded people. Just wishes there were more sports memorabilia.
Wiley C — Google review
Very interesting place about the ski history of Finland. On of the most interesting part is activities such as virtual ski jumping and biathlon shooting (I really wanted to just to stay there :)) It would be great if audio guide will be added to the first floor as well. And the audio guide on the basement would be a bit shorter, because it's a bit difficult to consume such amount of information
Liza N — Google review
Best place in Europe to watch ski jumping. Hills put completely in nature ever so close to city center.
Paölö R — Google review
Nice place. Great to be for Ski events. Places to visit with kids. Skijumpsimulator! Funny. Have fire place to grill!
Ilia K — Google review
Place with Wintersport history - we stopped there for lunch which was served as buffet and was delicious.
Frank R — Google review
Very Modern museum, giving some history about skiing in general and of cause the finish sports. And a bit of fun in the ski jump simulator and shooting Simulator, nice idee. But from my point of view the entrance fee is a bit to high for the size of the museum, maybe for somebody who is more into Finnish winter sports legends it is more worth it.

Sibeliustalo (Sibelius Hall)

Event venue
Sights & Landmarks
Sibeliustalo, also known as Sibelius Hall, is a remarkable concert and congress hall located in Lahti, Finland. Designed by renowned Finnish architects Hannu Tikka and Kimmo Lintula, this modern wooden structure is considered one of the most significant architectural works in the region. The hall boasts world-renowned acoustics and features a stunning timber-lined auditorium connected to an older building by a cathedral-like foyer with expansive glass walls and tall pillars resembling a Finnish forest.
The Sibeliustalo is a beautiful concert hall. It has also received several international awards for its truly unique acoustics. Again: the remarkably great hospitality of the Finns - when the two janitors gave us a spontaneous tour of the house, including the concert hall which actually was not open to the public. A wonderful experience, thanks to both of you if you happen to read this.

This is the most magnificent concert hall in the world and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra are HIGHLY underrated. A beautiful setting on the docks at Lake Vesijarvi in Lahti City, Finland. The only other concert hall with perhaps as good a setting is the Sydney Opera House in Sydney Harbour Australia, but I prefer Sibelius Hall. This was the view from the steps outside the hall on the evening of Thursday 17th May 2018.

The Finnish Motorcycle Museum, with its recent Art Deco-style extension, is a magnificent showcase of over 100 old motorcycles and their fascinating stories. It also boasts the only Ace Cafe in the Nordic countries. Visitors praise the museum for its remarkable amount of motorcycle history and memorabilia, as well as its clean and tidy layout. The owner is described as a friendly and knowledgeable person who adds to the experience.
An interesting museum that contains quite a lot of different motorcycle models from different times.
Anastasiia Z — Google review
I gotta say, it surely is a cute little collection of mostly well kept bikes, but. What I'm struggling with, is the price of such a small collection, and with very little information about their history. I would appreciate more informative signs to read. It really isn't worth of the current price (12€) Maybe a bit cheaper ticket would also encourage people to try it out?
A T — Google review
Very small, but well kept museum. Two rooms + one exhibition room (for Honda bikes for the time being). Enjoyed it even for a pretty hefty price (14e).

Very nice place. Yearly changing exhibitions. About 100 bikes, this year Honda 120. Staff also friendly.

The bikes are unique, but an entrance fee of 12 Euros makes it somewhat questionable. It's not out of this world and staff mimics American culture. Good music.

(Translated by Google) Although the place is a bit expensive, it's nice to visit once or twice in the summer 🫶 So it's not worth going there when you're hungry. This year there were bunnies in the backyard who liked the dandelions very much. Downstairs, you can also bring guests with you! (Original) Vaikka paikka on vähän tyyris, on se kiva kerran tai pari kesässä käydä 🫶 Nälässä ei siis kannata mennä. Tänä vuonna takapihalla oli pupuja joille maistui hyvin voikukat. That's just a great place for all kind of sport and recreational activities. In a walking distance you have all you need. Running indoors and outdoor, cross-country skiing, widr range of tracks for beginners and pros. Would wish that tracks are clean, I got bad scratches on my skis. Tried gym and circuit training area, running loop, swimming pool. Classes for students are good and modern. Conference rooms are good. Restaurants are good quality both cheaper and more pricy. Good pub for evening. Sleep in Fennada is of good quality. Room service need improvement, towels not changed, coffee mugs were dirty when arrived. But generally clean, has a drying locker.

Visited during autumn holiday. Finding the activities was horrendous. Web pages partly wrong, no signs, nobody to ask. The coaches were nice but they had absolutely no idea on customer value basics, and no willingness to receive feedback. Example: archery. We were told to come to a lobby of a certain building where the instructor would fetch us. Name of the building was wrong in the net and there were several lobbies. At one minute to due time nobody around. They had the participant list so they knew whom to expect. Finally found the group in a dark building 15 min late. After the class the instructor ran away to avoid feedback. You really need to work on this!

Our holidayhouse had a fireplace, Sauna, barbeque Grill outside...we were happy there....we ate sometimes in the Restaurant Puhti Buffet next to the Hotel Fennada in Vierumäki.

Nice place to enjoy wintersports, although it is quite expensive overall. We had a nice cottage, fully equipped, sports facilities top notch. Rental prices for equipment are fair depending on the sports you choose. Curling for example is very expensive. Discovered new sports of Padel and used snow shoes for the first time. Everyone will find something they will enjoy here. Food on the premises is also of very high quality. Lunches in the cafe are very price worthy.

19th-century timber mill set in heritage village, with guided tours detailing working methods.
Well preserved cardboard factory and surrounding buildings situated in beautiful natural setting. Outdoor expositions provide good insight into history of the place including its inhabitants, the cardboard factory and adjacent power plants; everything is well labeled and can be seen free of charge. The cardboard factory itself houses former machinery used for production - this is well preserved and super interesting to visit as the whole production process can be easily followed and understood. Visits are available on guided tours only, tours in English available at every half past with the last one being at 3.30 PM. The staff is very friendly, professional and knowledgeable about both the factory and hikes in the surrounding countryside. Expect one of the cleanest toilets in Finland, don't expect free WiFi. Highly recommended to visit.

Nice place, the service not so much. From the first restaurant we were sent downstairs and there they wanted to send us back up. You gotta serve yourself and it's very overpriced

The must-visit, located near Kouvola. You will not find a museum here in the traditional sense, but it is very cool to walk around the historical territory of the plant and the trails around. There are several barbecue areas, you can rent a house and enjoy the local nature. In summer you can use free hanging tents

Kimmo P — Google review
A lovely place for a family day trip. 100% buy tickets for the tour to see and hear about the mill. This includes (and is the only way to) see the inside spaces with all the original machinery and equipments!! Even a short film showing the mill in use, filmed during the last years of production. There is also a lot to see outside; with the power damn, nature, and all the other buildings associated with production. There is a good cafe and toilets. The whole place is very well maintained.
Pekka L — Google review
Grounwood and board mill museum in Verla is absolutely worth visiting! You can explore the interiors of mill buildings only on guided tours, which start on the hour sharp. The guide explains each stage of technology of converting spruces into cardboards. You get an idea how the old machines were used. There is also a very informative, 10 min long film at the end of the guided tour. However, if you arrive outside the opening hours, the place is still worth visiting due to it's amazing location. There are many information boards outside the buildings that explain the history and technology of the mill. There is a beautifull garden with impressive villa. Cafeteria offers delicious buns. There are also shops that sell genuine handicrafts.

Really nice national park, probably the best in the southeast of Finland. Everything is clean and well maintained. Paths all have the same color marking, and signs overall could be better. Quite a few wells for drinking water, which helps carrying your own load. Lapinsalmi bridge continues to be closed, this could be informed better.

Average when compared to other Finnish national parks. Not suitable for day trekking as it has very large trails and very short ones. Better to take food and drinks with you as there are not much shops nearby.

Great Park, like a mini Koli.. we did the 8.5km (9..) and loved it, best thing round Kouvola.
Prottila — Google review
The main idea of my review: Finland taught me to love nature! Arvostelun pääidea: Suomi opetti minua rakastamaan luontoa! So I start my review with prehistory. Me and my wife visit Finland regulary. We love the spirit of small finnish cities - calm, quiet. Helsinki is one of our favorite cities with its great scandinavian design, bicycle routs. The big modern city as much as possible integrated in nature landscape. We love and adore how finnish live in harmony and in love with nature. We in Russia do not know how to handle with the nature that is given to us, do not respect it, do not love it. By the way we have the same natural landscape in north-west region as in Finland. I am not shy to say this because it is true! I found info about Repovesi just looking where to go in Kouvola. Never wanted to go hiking, always thought it's not mine, but when I visited Repovesi website I thought - "I wanna go there, enjoying nature with comfort that's what I always need, and ". We bought a tent, sleeping bags and other necessary things for hiking and drove to Repovesi. We traveled on bicycles by a bike routs leaving them from time time and walk. You won't be able to see all the attractions of this park just riding the bike, most routs are just for hiking. All the routs are marked and there are information bords in every campfire place! I also downloaded the pdf map of Repovesi on my phone, so we didn't have any problem with the route we went. The mix of wild nature and totaly usable navigation is fantastic! Sleeping and spending time at campfire was absolutely comfortable! There are everything you need to spend time with comfort - campfire with grill, firewood, toilet, beautifull view in every camp-fire place! We slept in the tent absolute silince, taking into account the fact that there were about 6 more tents around us! For me as a resident of St. Petersburg to sleep in absolute silence is a curiosity and I liked it! The summer morning in Repovesi is fantasic! Quet, fresh peaceful feeling! This will never leave me. If you love to spend time in nature, hiking with comfort, if you respect nature you should visit it! Paljon kiitoksia Repovesi! Palaamme ehdottomasti takaisin!

Very beautiful neogotic cathedral. It was built in 1897 and seems that the arquitect was inspired by some German neogotic churches. It has a huge organ that was finished in 1898 and they are renovating it now. It has a capacity of 1200 though before was 1400, but when renovating it they decided to give more space for sitting on the benches. There was a very attentive woman explaining the church to everyone that stepped in. Very good impression of the visit, totally worthy (and for free)

Astuvansalmi rock paintings

Historical landmark
Nature & Parks
In South Savo, the Astuvansalmi Rock Paintings are a significant attraction, being one of the largest rock painting sites in the Nordic countries. Created around 4,500-5,000 years ago by ancient hunters and fishermen on a massive cliff by a lake, these artifacts depict various scenes including elk, human hands, animal tracks, and boats. Accessible via a scenic hike from the main road through beautiful forest scenery and offering views of several lakes and islands along the way.
This is a 5km return walk through the beautiful forest on a narrow but clear trail. Once you have parked the car, the trail goes off of the gravel road to the left very soon after the lake. There is a little sign on the right pointing the way, but that can easily be missed! The walk has forest, lake and rock views. The terrain is manageable altho there were a few logs to hop over and roots to negotiate. Not too up and down altho near the paintings there are a few flights of stairs. At the water by the paintings is a jetty to jump off and also a long drop toilet. There are information signs about the paintings and they are cool to see. The people I was with have seen them before and they said that they seemed more faded than last time. A lovely walk with some history included. :)
Emily K — Google review
It was a fun detour that nature and history lovers would probably enjoy. From the parking, it's barely a 3 km walk in somewhat difficult terrain (people that have difficulties walking and want to look at this should get to this place using a boat) The cliff itself is very impressive and quite massive. while the painting itself is quite faded. I enjoyed both the walk there and the destination.
Axel J — Google review
Amazing place to visit, the rock paintings were clearly visible. We were completely alone on the walk there as well as at the site if the paintings which made the experience even better. The walk was short and pretty easy except for 1 part in the middle were the path was flooded and the water reaches a depth of about 70cm at the deepest point. There are logs and wooden beams layed out to help you cross but I can imagine it's not easy of doable for everyone. I could do it without any problems but my husband didn't feel steady and needed some sticks to help him get across (we are both about 30 and in good condition).

Astuvansalmi is Finland's largest single-rock painting site (the painted area is almost 17m x 8m). Over 60 individual painting designs have been identified. Some paintings are from before 2000 BCE. To get to the place, you will need to hike for 2.6 km (one way). The hike itself is very nice with a picturesque views. Optionally, you can get there by boat, as there is a pier just next to the paintings.
Jerzy J — Google review
The hike is very nice, like 1h round trip and not much of a hill up. You can recognize a human hand and an elk in the paintings plus the lake is a big plus as a background. Only caution should be with mosquitos, do use mosquito repellent before starting the hike
Justo G — Google review
Irt is ok destination, however the walk is quite basic trail in woods. One way is a bit more than 2.5km. So total above 5km of walking as it is back and forth trail instead of a loop. Some small lakes with rocky islands were along the sides of the trail, bit nothing too magnificent. If you have time and you are history fanatic, for sure a good hike, otherwise nothing too special to spend time on. There are also a bit of space for parking the car at start of the trail
Dāvids B — Google review
Nice and easy hike of about 45 minutes each way with the impressive 5000 year old rock paintings as a superb reward in the end. Take water proof sandals or rain boots though, we went in the middle of July and one part was flooded
Miriam K — Google review
Unique place, but a bit challenging hike. Wear suitable footware and take the walking sticks with you. Don't go on a rainy day, as the stones will be sloppy. There is a broken bridge (July 2025) in the middle of the track. It is crossable, but small kids might not do it.

Visulahti

Amusement park
Water & Amusement Parks
Lakeside resort with a water park, indoor playground, games & optional activities, plus dining.
Nice and quiet place, the staff are very cooperative. Thank you very much.
Hussam H — Google review
Went to the Dinosaur park. Overpriced entrance. Ice cream 6 euros!! Only sell deep fried fatty food, chips, burgers, hotdogs with raw (!!) onion, ice cream, nothing healthy. Long waiting time to get some food, which just makes you wanna leave. Weird radio shouting next to the bunny cages. Kids indoor playground was extremely hot inside, and even hotter on the upper levels. What is this place, amusement park or water park or what? Never again.
Johanna M — Google review
All facilities are available for camping. Aqua park is very basic and only for kids. A lot of renovation and improvements required to make this place an amazing experience. Benches and a lot of equipment require maintenance. Overall it was an okay experience because we booked a cottage for one day and went to the aqua park for two days
Ammar S — Google review
This is an incredibly cool place! Comfortable, beautiful and very nice! You can fine anything you need in camping there. All facilities are located nearby. We've been visiting Visulahti for many years already and love it even more.
Eugene D — Google review
Personally loved it... best mid range park in terms of area and rides... not too big not too small...some really good rides for children.. Lockers available for 2E and 0.5E which are refundable... The only issue is that it was tough to find vegetarian food especially burger in the only restaurant that was open inside the park during even Summer solstice .. there was nothing else vegetarian available inside the park too... may be the management can check on this... RECOMMENDED TO PACK FOOD AND GO INSIDE THE PARK (Except in JULY...)
Anjan G — Google review
Visulahti park really has the feel of the 90's still going strong and corona propably hit it hard. We had a fun day as a group of three adults and six children in july 2021. The waterpark isn't huge but has a lot of activities for such a small area. It was easy to keep track of the kids and afterwards all of them named it the best part of the experience. Although finding a place where to place our mat and stuff was hard and came almost impossible after two hours of opening. So be early or have a very few things with you. The outside play area has a lot of bouncy castles, a large balance action route, a large play castle, a few long slides, motor cars for kids, a softball shooting arena called dino arcade or some such, and two rides. Especially the smaller kids had a lot of fun here. The above 10 years had less so. We didn't have the time to look in to the inside play areas on the otherside of the camping area other than the wax museum. Which by the way is hard to grasp without a Finnish guide or someone who knows the historical figures of Finland. The area in total is spread around a very large area and at best is enjoyed as part of camping in the area. Restaurant Kulkuri's (wanderer in Finnish) buffe was awesome and well worth the low price. Even though you have to walk to the other side of the camping area to get there. If we visit again well definitely eat there again as you can just walk in without waiting and the buffe is served until five in the afternoon. The 90's feel of disrepair and downhill is most apparent in the actual park as most of the cafe's were closed in the middle of the season and people had to wait about 30 min for coffee and 45 min for food in the waterpark grill. Ice cream was also highly over priced at around 5 euro's a piece. Junk and flaking paint didn't bother the kids but the ride that was out of action and the closed down XON-trampoline park were big disappointments for the larger kids. All in all we recommend visiting with smaller kids and with mixed age groups of up to 10. For 10 and over only the waterpark with a good friend has anything to offer for the whole day.

If you are travelling with caravan or just want to visit, this is a perfect place to stop by and enjoy with the family there are lots of activities like sauna, swimming in the lake, amusement park. Also I love the staff! Very friendly.

Good combo of camping and activity park. A bit crummy and not well maintained - many places need repairs and more cleaning. Horrible food inside the activity park, but a bit better options outside near the camping area.

Museum of Mechanical Music

Museum
Specialty Museums
This place is amazing. Different mechanical music machines from the last century on display. On the guided tour there are explanations in Finnish, English and German, with the opportunity to hear the instruments and machines that make the sounds. Some of the oldest machines are presented. The guided tour went a bit quick, but it went around in a loop, and could have been more slow pace if needed.

One of the best museums I have ever visited, and surely the funniest excursion of all! Highly recommend, very exciting and fascinating!
Алиса Н — Google review
You must go there! Entrance fee is pretty high (16 EU), it is far from well known touristic places, but it is very interesting, if You like music, machines, information technology and history of music. There are a lot of music instruments with mechanical and electrical control.

This place is worth visiting a 100 percent. The collection is vast and diverse, maybe not totally unique, but nevertheless is very interesting. And a huge plus and argument for visit is a brilliant performance of a museum keeper. His guided tour will make you smile every minute and left you at the end with great excitement and joy from such fascinating journey into the "magic" world of mechanical music.

(Translated by Google) Terrace cafe Torni is located on the roof of the Varkaus water tower on the edge of the city center. The place is cozy and the scenery is wonderful, because the cafe is on the 16th floor, and the balcony has views in all directions. The service is excellent, and the food is high quality and tasty. I think the sweet potato fries in particular are better than elsewhere. The prices are reasonable. The place is also unique because it is the only water tower in Finland that functions as a residential building. (Original) Terassikahvila Torni sijaitsee Varkauden vesitornin katolla keskustan liepeillä. Etenkin bataattiranskalaiset ovat mielestäni parempia kuin muualla. Hinnat ovat kohtuulliset. Paikka on myös ainutlaatuinen, koska kyseessä on Suomen ainut asuintalona toimiva vesitorni.

(Translated by Google) "Hey, never, ever change. Always stay the way you are." Those are the words of a hit song that are also perfect for Kuopio City Hall. It has been a wonderful decoration since my early childhood, and I hope that my future generations will also experience it as such in the future. It is no wonder that in several votes it has been at the top of the list for the most beautiful city hall. Fortunately, I have been so privileged that I have often been in the ballroom. Sometimes even my Nepalese guests have been enchanted by the place. So it is not only pleasing to the Finnish eye.

The Museum of Kuopio, housed in a beautiful Art Nouveau building next to Snellman Park, is a must-visit attraction in the charming city of Kuopio, Finland. The museum showcases exhibits from both the Kuopio Museum of Natural History and the Kuopio Museum of Cultural History. Visitors can explore a diverse collection of historical items from different eras as well as enjoy changing displays like macrophotography of insects.
Great museum with lots of interactive areas for kids and adults. Plenty to see and had a good temporary exhibition covered in the entry fee or museum card. Has a little play area hidden away on the 2nd floor and a nice cafe on the ground floor. Well worth a visit
Adrian G — Google review
I just returned from this museum. It was cool! I am amazed by the replica, I could say it seemed realistic, especially the animal figures. Asides that, my favourite was the boat on the first floor and the VR experience. I was so happy to know that they have separated a temporary museum that the concept would be different periodically. However, I have to admit three things I don't like; 1. Yes, they have a guide in English but most of the text next to the exhibition's collection is written in Finnish only. 2. I thought the ticket price for students was €5 after checking from the website, but the price refers to the old museum. I don't really understand this mistake because I clicked the link to the web directly from this. So, the actual price was 10. 3. Still about the language, they have a short documentary on the highest floor,,, I'd appreciate it if you put it subtitled, because watching 17 mins without understanding what they were talking about was... not pleasant.
