Kazan Cathedral

Mentioned on
+47 other lists
Cathedral
Museums
Kazan Cathedral, designed by Russian architect Hronihin, is an elegant church that began its construction in 1801 and was completed in 1811. The cathedral features a cross-shaped floor plan with a cylinder-shaped penthouse above the middle and a grand dome on the top floor. The semicircular colonnade boasts 94 columns facing the main street and encircling the square, where monuments of Russian commanders Kutuzov and Barclay de Tolly stand.
This is a must visit place in Saint Petersburg! Extremely beautiful architecture, very clean inside. This is one of the few sightseeing places that you can visit for free, no ticket required!!! On the other hand, this is a functional orthodox church. Hence, all women are required to wear a scarf or a cap over their head. Inside everything is as beautiful as from outside. Good place for taking a lot of pictures.
Nickolas F — Google review
An enormous Cathedral that is going to leave you with so many positive emotions. The building breathes love and peace. If you have a chance to visit this place, do not waste it.
Luka T — Google review
Can give a 6-star review if I could. This divine place, yes, divine for believers or not, Kazan Cathedral was one of the best choice to visit in St Petersburg. A mini Vatican as dubbed, our jaws were dropped all the way from it's gallery outdoors, then throughout the whole visit. Think this description has already got the interest for most people. Different to the other cathedrals in St Petersburg, Kazan has her own characters that is difficult to describe. The gallery of huge columns, the marble facets, granite floors of the size of a large public square, all gave mind-blowing visuals to any visitor stepped inside. The exhibits are well planned and placed that numerous docents could lead their tourists groups without interfering too much to other visitors like us. The besiege of the city during WWII was another key story we could learn more from. The endurance and hardship human can display is remarkable and incredible. Anyone loving art and culture will find this place fascinating and we just could not get enough of it. Even there were over a hundred of visitors inside the main chamber, we could still be awed and feel the solemnity of the church. It's like magic indeed. One will not regret going, trust your instinct.
Joe H — Google review
It turned out to be one of the most peaceful and beautiful places of my trip. The architecture is grand, with the huge curved colonnade and stunning entrance that immediately catches your eye. Even from outside, it looks very majestic. Inside, the atmosphere is very calm and spiritual. The interiors are beautifully decorated with icons, paintings, and soft lighting that gives a very serene feeling. I spent some quiet time just walking around and soaking in the peaceful vibe. It’s also located right on Nevsky Prospekt, so it’s easy to visit while exploring the city. For me, it was a lovely experience and definitely worth stopping by if you’re in St. Petersburg. A beautiful cathedral with a very calming energy.
Divya V — Google review
Such a beautiful, grand process. A truly stunning church Kazan Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan, on Nevsky Prospekt. The church was built between 1801 and 1811 under the direction of architect Andrey Voronikhin and its design was inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, featuring a large colonnade and a large central dome. The interior of the church is decorated with beautiful mosaics and icons, making it a must-see cultural and religious site. The photos don't really do the church's exterior justice, they only capture a portion of it, you have to come and see it for yourself.
Huy T — Google review
While it seems it gets less attention than other churches in town, this gem located in the Nevsky prospect is a must see.
Lucca R — Google review
A really beautiful Cathedral Kazan Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan, on Nevsky Prospect. Ross D — Google review
The Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg is a magnificent neoclassical masterpiece, with its grand colonnaded façade and towering dome. It's a must-see landmark in the city, and here's why: Exterior: * Architectural grandeur: The cathedral's imposing exterior is a testament to its importance and beauty. The white façade and colonnades create a striking contrast against the surrounding cityscape. * Historical significance: Built in the early 19th century, the cathedral commemorates the victory over Napoleon and houses the tomb of Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov. Interior: * Spiritual atmosphere: The cathedral's interior is a serene space with beautiful frescoes and icons. It's a place of worship and reflection for many. * Religious relics: The cathedral houses a copy of the famous icon of Our Lady of Kazan, which is a significant pilgrimage site for Orthodox Christians. Additional points: * Free admission: The cathedral is free to enter, making it accessible to everyone. * Guided tours: Guided tours are available for those who want to learn more about the history and architecture of the cathedral. Overall: The Kazan Cathedral is a stunning example of Russian neoclassical architecture and a significant religious site. Its impressive exterior and serene interior make it a must-visit attraction in St. Petersburg.

Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines

Mentioned on
6 lists
Museum
Specialty Museums
If you're looking for a unique and nostalgic experience in St. Petersburg, the Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines is an absolute must-visit! This compact yet vibrant museum boasts an impressive collection of over 40 vintage arcade games from the Soviet era, dating back to the 1970s. Unlike traditional museums where you can only admire artifacts, here you have the chance to actually play these retro machines and relive some childhood memories.
I loved that they give you coins to play with the arcades. Next to every arcade there is a description of the game and the year of release. Nearly everything is written in english and russian. There are also consoles such as sega and Nintendo64. Upon arrival you are giving short instructions. Possibly to get drinks as well.
Jaime C — Google review
A really fun place for kids. It’s still a great place for an adult to visit, but you’ll see everything pretty quick. From Soviet-era arcade machines, smells from that time, and Soviet cartoons playing in a room. You can see (and smell) what life was like for kids during this era. Some of the games where hard to play while others were fun enough to play a second time. A good place to burn an hour or two!
Brett H — Google review
Can't recommend it highly enough. Really fun way to spend an hour or two, playing old Soviet-era arcade machines, which have all been lovingly saved and restored. The space is cool, the games are fun, each has a great description of the maker, the design and the game mechanics in Russian and in English (slightly abridged). There's a cool cafe and Soviet era soda machines that dispense Kvass and other drinks. Entry is 450rub per person, for which you get a bunch of coins to play the machines.
Gavin M — Google review
Even though the name of the museum is what originally hooked us, the name actually sells it a little short. While they do have a huge unique selection of Soviet-Era arcade machines, they also have many other things from that era including a unique exhibit where you can smell things from that time, listen to things, try drinks, etc. How the arcade portion works is you pay admission and receive about 15 Soviet era coins to use in the machines. I believe you can buy more as well. They also come in a unique match box to hold while you play. “Technically” you are supposed to turn in the remainder coins as you leave since they aren’t in circulation any more, but no one really seems to care if you want to keep one as a souvenir. They also have free Wifi, coffee and snacks, clean toilets and a small selection of things to purchase. The selection of arcade machines is good, although they aren’t always in perfect repair, but that is part of the fun!
Reed B — Google review
I knew nothing about arcade games from CCCP times, but this was two hours of quality time. With your ticket you get a matchbox with bunch of original coins from soviet time. You can use them to play any of the games. 1 coin = 1 play. 90% of the games are in very good working condition, other ones are under maintenance. Staff is very patient to explain to you how the museum works, coins, games, etc. Must visit if you are in St. Peterburg.
Skubi P — Google review
A fun place to go and visit if in St Petersburg. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, gave a good explanation of all the things there. Some of the machines weren't working, which was a bit of a shame, but can't be helped. Was interesting as an outsider to see all the games that were played in the USSR. If you're a gamer and in the area, I would recommend going - very cool as well to use the old Soviet coins to pay for things.
Dominic L — Google review
Super cool place, with a coffee shop atmosphere. Seeing these machines and getting to play them was a trip back in time. I loved the machines with the vacuum tubes that could light up as numbers for your score. I definitely recommend getting a soda from the old Soviet soda fountain. The cream soda was actually incredibly delicious.
Nicholas W — Google review
It is nice to see the adults playing these games. I also loved how they give the coins for machines. Inside a match box. It is a bit small and you may need to wait for machines. You enjoy more if you go with your friends.

Savior on the Spilled Blood

Mentioned on

Church
Sights & Landmarks
The Savior on the Spilled Blood is a stunning 1880s church adorned with gleaming mosaics and marble, featuring colorful onion domes. Designed by Russian architect Hronihin, it boasts a cross-shaped floor plan with a cylinder-shaped penthouse and a correct dome. The semicircular colonnade consists of 94 columns facing the main street and encircling the square, where monuments of Russian commanders stand.
The interior of the Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood is absolutely breathtaking. Stepping inside invites a moment of reflection — you can’t help but think about how much time and effort the artists must have put into creating such intricate details, blending colors, and forming the stunning, interwoven patterns. The mosaics and decorations are awe-inspiring, and golden accents shimmer when touched by light, creating a truly mesmerizing effect. Entry is quite affordable, though the place is often crowded. It’s highly recommended to read about the church beforehand to fully appreciate the variety of rare stones used in its construction.

OMG wow, this place is amazing the history is absolutely mind blowing. They have great tours you get a set of headphones and a map and it’s done many different languages. You’ll need a few hours for this place as there is such a lot take in. Everywhere you look there’s something to go well, the mosaics the size of things in here is just amazing. If you come to Saint Petersburg, you definitely have to visit this place even if it’s the only one you visit. The place is just absolutely stunning. There’s plenty of other little touristy thingsto buy outside in a few inside. This place is truly amazing.
Steve M — Google review
In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful places in the city. The place is old traditional and distinctive. Every wall is decorated with mosaic stone, which gives it a very beautiful appearance. The pictures dont give the place how is beauty. It is worth a visit. By the way it's easy to buy and ticket
Ahmed Z — Google review
Beautiful monument and must visit if you are in Saint Petersburg. Located on a river and it attracts your attention from far. A colorful building with special and unique architecture from outside. Tickets are available at the entrance and are available online. Price for entrance is 450 Rubles. The church inside is an absolute masterpiece of art. Colorful walls, and beautiful architecture. You can feel you are walking into a piece of art and being part of it. The visit took me around fifteen minutes in total. The right place to take nice pictures and videos.

Amazing!!!! An obligatory visit. Any international visitor will discover not only Ryssian paintings and different schools / styles, but a lot about the history. The Mikhailovsky Palace, Art Square and the views from Mikhailovsky Park, ... the surroundings are absolutely awesome, ❤️ 😍 💖

Nice museum, however unfortunately some of the famous Russian masters we came to see were (despite internet reviews) not present, moved to other museums/exhibitions. Briulov, Aivazovskiy, Ivanov and Bruin - not here at this time. Otherwise amazing exhibition of Russian paintings dating from early, Church icons/religious works to 20th century works

The first museum I visited in Russia. Lot's of incredible masterpieces that will just amaze you. The tour guide was just a delight to listen to; his English was just impeccable. Made some new friends and that day was a good one I must say...💃

A beautiful building centrally located in St Petersburg, with a good fine art collection varying in periods. The building and the interiors are absolutely gorgeous. This is a great museum to visit in addition to the Hermitage. The coat check is very efficient (a necessary step when visiting) but the bathrooms definitely left something to be desired.

Beautiful museum. Went today and it was wonderful to be free of crowds. The building and setting are lovely. Staff speak English, which is helpful when you get lost and can't find the cloakroom. Highly recommend

A must see in St Petersburg. The building and the artworks are monumental. A good glimpse into Russian art and culture through the various historic stages of the empire/union/federation. A full day is needed to see everything, if not a few. Make sure you don't miss the main collections on the second floor.
Intelligent P — Google review
The complex of several different remoted objects. The main part - Museum of Russian art in this Mikhailovsky palace - is second to Hermitage as a main museum attraction and second to none as an art museum. I do recommend for every classical art fan!
Eshcho O — Google review
The museum hosts paintings, sculptures and other artifacts mostly from 19. century. This is the place where you can see the traditional Russian art and paintings. Pity to see that Russian art reached its peak in the 19th century and halted as soon as the Soviet revolution took place. At least they preserved their finest collections and present in this museum.

Small, rich, incredible museum showcasing the otherworldy riches of the zar's. The center pieces are numerous Fabergé eggs, each of them an absolute masterpiece, accompanied by jewels, precious china and earthwares as well as gold and silver decorations and icon encrusted with precious stone.

Well I really cannot add to what has already been said. Its an extraordinary Museum and, if I had a huge amount of money I maybe could have bought what my wife wanted. But not to be. This famous Museum is located in the beautiful Shuvalov Palace on the Fontanka River and house the world's largest collection of works by Carl Fabergé, including nine of the famous Imperial Easter Eggs. These eggs are not only stunning jeweled works of art but also unique historical artifacts.

It is one of the most beautiful museums I have ever visited. It has some of the most famous Faberge eggs. The museum was not overcrowded, therefore I was able to see all objects. In addition, the museum has an amazing gift shop! They have very nice Faberge branded items, including very beautiful jewellery. The staff members speak English and it is possible to get English audio guide.

The Fabergé Museum in St. Petersburg offers a unique chance to see the famous imperial Fabergé eggs and other exquisite jewelry masterpieces. Visitors can experience Russian history and craftsmanship up close, all within the stunning setting of the Shuvalov Palace. male guards at the entrance and exit are very rude.

One of the most beautiful museums to visit in St Petersburg. The fabrezé eggs are jaw dropping nothing like any another jewellery you've seen before. Everyone has to place their coat in wardrobe and the protection on shoes, to keep the place clean. Only one minus is that there was a misunderstanding with the tickets and we had to go the next day to visit it.

Anichkov Bridge

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Anichkov Bridge, a historic structure dating back to 1841 and reconstructed in 1908, is adorned with iconic horse tamer sculptures. Situated on Nevsky Prospect, it offers picturesque views of the Fontanka River and is surrounded by former imperial palaces. The bridge's iron railings feature intricate patterns of mermaids and seahorses.
My favourite bridge. Stunning. I could stare at the statues for hours. When the Fontanka froze I went and walked on the ice and it looks beautiful from the ice. Equally stunning on the pavement or by boat in warm weather. Highly recommend the trip up Nevsky to see it

Anichkov Bridge is a must-see in St. Petersburg. The stunning horse statues, historic atmosphere, and great views of the Fontanka River make it perfect for photos and walks. Especially beautiful at sunset.
Alex D — Google review
Decorative bridge in the place where Fontanka river meets Nevsky Prospekt. The bridge itself is not that long, though, some tens of meters. But views at and around and statues also are definitely worth a visit. Especially during the light nights.
Juha N — Google review
This is a famous bridge in St. Petersburg that crosses the Fontanka River along Nevsky Prospekt. It is a relatively short crossing that is decorative and features four landmark sculptures of horse tamers. Constructed in 1841-42, the bridge features appealing iron railings. However, the highlight is seeing the four large horse tamer sculptures, which were installed at the two ends of the bridge between 1849-50. These are individually impressive works of art, particularly for those who enjoy viewing sculptures and statues. Note: The Anichkov Bridge and its sculptures are particularly nice to see when viewed from the opposite bank to the pink coloured Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace. If you position yourself correctly, you can capture all in the same frame, allowing some decent pictures to be taken. In the end, we liked the Anichkov bridge. This is a quick attraction to view and enjoy if you find yourself in this area of St. Petersburg during your visit to the city.

The main thoroughfare in Saint Petersburg, Nevsky Prospect hosts many high-end shops and luxury hotels. The architecture on the street is stunning and worth a walk through for visitors.
Nevsky Ave. is one of the most famous streets in Saint Petersburg, it's very nice and beautiful at night and midnight, visitors generally pass this place to reach to their visiting destinations, some most churches and cathedrals like the Savior Blood and the Kazan Cathedral are connected to this Avenue, the ambient of the street is so happy and crowded with street musics, shopping centers, metro and bus stations, etc.

Just a fast but interesting drive through the avenue but followed later on with a slower walk. The Avenue contains so many great historic buildings with architecture and interesting frontages. But you have to do it on foot to really appreciate the multiple sites.

The Alexander Park, established in the 1770s and expanded by Emperor Alexander in the early 19th century, offers a serene natural setting for various recreational activities. Unlike the Catherine Park, it is overgrown with pine trees and conifers, creating a mysterious atmosphere linked to the last Tsar. The park features water bodies weaving through wild forest-like landscapes and even boasts Pushkin's famous natural spring.
Very clean and immense. I was there at the end of October. The trees are no longer leafy, there are few and for an autumn photo, you don't have the desired effect. I think it's my fault, but it'll certainly be better in winter. On the other hand, it's really beautiful.

A truly beautiful park that reminded me a lot of the palace gardens in Potsdam. Although the park is located next to the Katharinenpark, it is much quieter and you can enjoy the green of nature.

Museum "Tsarskoye Selo" is a captivating historic site that encompasses multiple imperial palaces and an extensive landscaped park adorned with beautiful gardens. It's advisable to make reservations in advance as the place tends to be crowded, especially during the fall season when the enchanting walks through the park are particularly popular.
Beatiful palace in a pleasant town. Nice gardens and beautiful architecture. Make sure your camera/phone is charged. You will be taking a lot of pictures. Just remember the palace itself is closed on Tuesdays. Gardens are still available though.

Everything was ok except for the exorbitant price for a ticket for a foreigner. 2500 rubles for a 30 minute tour with minimal English. In Europe we have the same prices for everyone.
Marián T — Google review
I come back after 8 years. The exterior and the park are really amazing, a must see. About the interior tour, re her living zone, which I did for the first time, well, I am not sure is something to be seen... First of all you will discover that almost everything was bombed or robbed during second world war, so you are looking to a replica, which is taking away all the magic from it since......since let us be honest, interiors are unreal ugly. Too much of everthing without real balance and well thought details. And when you see it as a replica, you start to think 💬 well why to remake such a kitsch interior and not even to the end (not all the rooms have been restored until the end ). Also, the guide we had was so boring, lots of details repeating over and over... In general, the visit to the interior I won't recommend it, you won't loose anything. The park yes, that is a piece of art to be seen.
Ugo R — Google review
Beautiful. Grand. Bold. The palace is stunning and both the Catherine and Alexander parks are beautiful. I really want to visit the Alexander Palace when it opens after renovations. Which may take years sadly. The Amber Room is amazing. The post war photos of the destruction are sobering
HL R — Google review
Exhilarating experience to see so much grandeur and beauty! The interiors of Catherine's Palace are truly awe-inspiring, especially the Amber Room. Entry into the Palace always involves a longish queue, but it's worth it. If you have the stamina, don't miss out the stunning Palace gardens either. As splendid as the Palace interiors.
Sumer S — Google review
A great place just a train or a bus ride from St. Petersburg. The park is beautiful and the palace tour is nice. Be prepared to wait in line for about 30 minutes to an hour since there are a lot of visitors and due to the capacity, only certain number are allowed every 15 minutes.

Beautifully restored back to almost original greatness. Displays the crazy wealth of the Romanovs. Also a nice example of the Russian taste for gold and ornaments. Best to visit off season to avoid the largest hordes of tourists.
Thomas R — Google review
A don't miss site in St Petersburg. Tickets go on sale 30 days prior, don't miss the date, they will be sold out 29 days prior (the tixs for Catherine Palace). You can still get a tix via a long line or by joining a tour. All of the rooms are beautiful but the amber room alone is worth the visit.

Nature & Parks
Catherine Park is a sprawling urban park that was once the estate of a nobleman. It features lush greenery, ponds, and walking paths. The park reflects the preferences of multiple generations of Romanovs, blending elaborate formal gardens with a picturesque landscaped park adorned with charming follies. Visitors can explore various attractions within the park for an admission fee, including the Grotto, Maids of Honour Garden, and Hanging Garden.
In keeping with all the opulence the Catherine Park is amazing again I am glad I did not have to fit the bill over the years. But a number of splendid features and it takes a long time to walk around. It took us a few hours to cover all the sites and take in the atmosphere.

Catherine Palace, it is a park in Tsarskaya Village, Russia, located 25 km southeast of St. Petersburg. Catherine Park gets its name from Catherine Palace, and the park is divided into two parts: the Garden and the English Garden. When you come to St. Petersburg, you should take a stroll and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the area
C J — Google review
The park itself is nice, but the palace is super underwhelming inaccessible. You have to buy ticket for each small section of the palace, and it’s quite pricey as well. In addition, there is absolute no English translation, no English audio or tour guide, and the staff does not speak any English at all as well.
Minh N — Google review
There are a lot of beautiful places around the world where you will feel happy and relaxed yourself. And Catherine Park is definitely one of those places. I had so warm walk with my soulmate in the amazing place with incredible views just everywhere you turn your head. The perennial trees, ponds, beautiful buildings with a long history. So precious moments of life.🤍
Farida S — Google review
My family's favorite park grounds. We walk the grounds at least once a year. There are lots of fun paths for kids to explore. If you bring nuts you can also sometimes feed squirrels or chickadees. Don't forget to walk behind the palace to the left and explore some lovely gardens with statues there.
Aaron B — Google review
Amazing gardens. There are several pavilion to visit and they all have wildly different styles, which makes it fun. Some are available to visit with a ticket (like the amazing Cold Baths, where the Agathe Rooms are located) and some can be visited for free (like the Chinese style pavilion and the Italian Style pavilion with authentic roman mosaics from the 2nd century) Just strolling around is nice, and they are more chilled than Petergof, with lots of locals enjoying the scene.

The Memorial Lyceum Museum is a vast complex consisting of six buildings that offer a deep dive into literary and cultural history. Visitors can explore the museum's exhibits and learn about the prestigious Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoe Selo, which operated from 1811 to 1843 and counted 286 graduates during its existence.
See where Aleksander Pushkin wrote his first poems as he studied in this Liceum 1811-1817.

(Translated by Google) An interesting memorial museum dedicated to the childhood years and studies at the Imperial Lyceum of the great Russian poet. He was, of course, a very contradictory personality despite his undeniable talent. The work of Alexander Pushkin is our national treasure. The entrance ticket prices are high in my opinion. 800 rubles with excursion service. The management seems to be interested in making money from tourists. Even for disabled children there is no free entry. Groups of visitors come one after another. Like a conveyor belt.

But this is not scary, since the museum is located in the center and you can take a walk, drink coffee, etc. It is possible to take an audio guide, but I read somewhere that they recommend a live one. We didn’t regret it at all. I definitely recommend visiting the museum; there is a special atmosphere here. A park that my family loves to walk during the summer. Our trip out this weekend was a bit early in the season and the weather was a bit chilly. During the summer that gardens are full or different kinds of flowers. There are even parts of the park where a person can go and lay out in the grass, a true luxury in Russia. Be sure and bring some nuts as there are many hungry squirrels who will gladly come get them out of your hand. This is a lot of fun for kids.

On the right bank you can see a monument to the builders in the form of a huge turbine, apparently left over from the time of modernization of the hydroelectric power station. There is a special area for walking and admiring the views of the hydroelectric power station. The left bank is much more interesting. You reach a large parking lot on the right hand side, and you will see a stop there. Park and walk along the inconspicuous path beyond the stop. Here you will have an excellent view of the façade of the hydroelectric power station building and the locks. All photos will be under the review. Happy travels!

(Translated by Google) You can't get here without a tour. It begins every new hour. And the excursion, I tell you, is not for everyone. A museum employee presents information emotionally, and often the show of one actor overshadows the meaningful component. The guide screamed and moaned and joked as best she could, but in fact we learned little about the bells. Disappointing.

(Translated by Google) On July 9, our family visited the bell museum in Valdai. And a miracle happened! We found ourselves on an excursion, or rather "in the auditorium" - at the benefit performance of the actress (or rather the tour guide) Yakovleva Nadezhda Petrovna. How amazingly, passionately, amusingly, heartfeltly Nadezhda Petrovna told us about the history of the origin of bells and bell ringing. How many interesting things we learned from Nadezhda Petrovna, heard how and what different bells and bells say. Thank you very much for such a fascinating excursion, for inspiration, for the amazing talent of the storyteller and actor Nadezhda Petrovna. I would like to wish everyone to meet this tour guide. And we say a HUGE THANK YOU to Nadezhda Petrovna, and may not only we be lucky enough to visit your excursion. Kazansky Female Monastery

Monumental cathedral, quiet place.
Ilya R — Google review
(Translated by Google) Somehow this monastery is not well-known, and I came across it quite by accident, somewhere I saw a photo of the Kazan Cathedral. I compared it with our planned route and it turned out that we would be passing through (and spending the night) very close by: well, why not stop by. Let's go. From the highway we turn onto Siversova Street, and it’s very close there. We drive a little past the monastery and behind it there is a parking lot with information about the monastery. After what our revolutionary atheists did there, only the Kazan Cathedral has been fully restored so far. Well, the Sophia Chapel is next to it (but it is completely new, as is the sculpture of St. John of Kronstadt not far from the entrance). All other buildings are still in a sad state and require a lot of time and money. Some work is going on in the interiors of the Andronikovsky Cathedral, but when we were in the monastery (August 21, Wednesday, from 8.30 to 10 o’clock) there was no movement there and the doors of the cathedral were tightly closed. But the Kazan Cathedral turned out to be open: a large pinkish building of lush, even some kind of riotous architecture with many small details and elements. But its interior turned out to be bright, clean and calm. Classic. Filled with light. Fascinating! Interesting contrast! Well, it's deserted here for now. Apparently that’s why it’s not just allowed here, but recommended to take photographs (a rare occurrence for monasteries) and post them on the internet so that people can learn at least something about this place. Very small area. Two huge cathedrals. This also doesn't happen often. But still, now you can safely enter the territory, calmly enter one of the cathedrals and, perhaps, support the restoration of this wonderful place with at least some money.

(Translated by Google) The Vyshnevolotsk Kazan Convent was founded in 1872 on the site of the appearance of the miraculous Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, which for centuries was revered as the Great Shrine of the Vyshnevolotsk land. At the site of the apparition at the holy spring, a chapel was erected for her stay, and subsequently a temple with a bell tower, where the miraculous image was located until the destruction of the monastery. By the beginning of the 20th century, the monastery became one of the largest in Russia, numbering about 1000 nuns. It had many workshops, including painting, embroidery, sewing, shoe making and bookbinding. An orphanage was organized at the monastery, where up to 250 girls were educated, a parish school, and hospices and almshouses were maintained. After the revolution in 1919, the monastery was closed and subjected to merciless destruction. The temple with the bell tower, where the miraculous Kazan icon resided, the fence, most of the wooden buildings were destroyed, the heads of the cathedrals were demolished, and their interior decoration was lost. During Soviet times, a military unit was located on the territory of the monastery. The drainage system was ruined, as a result of which swampiness returned. Constant excess moisture causes building structures to collapse. The monastery was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1991, and its revival is currently ongoing. The monastery is open daily from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Tsentral'nyy Muzey Bronetankovogo Vooruzheniya I Tekhniki

Military museum focused on tanks & armored vehicles from around the world, with guided tours.
This muzeum is really great. You fibd almost all the tank soviet production. From early times to the modern ones. There are also 2 hangars dedicated to tanks made in other countries, mainly Germany and USA, but you can find also some rarety like the hungaroan Toldi. Moreover there is the only existing prototype of the german tank Maus, aslo the biggest one in the 2ww.

This is simply a great museum! The collection of tanks there is very large, and you even get to try to shoot a firearm of your choice for only 1100 rubles.

I was there with some Russian friends. The place is pretty unique with so many tanks, hundreds I guess. There, are Russian, British, German and American tanks and more. They span about all of the 20th century. Some of them are used a lot in WW II movies. Nice to see them up close here. We spent about two hours here. There's also plenty of souvenirs to buy, a restaurant, toilets and abundant parking place.

One of the biggest tank museums in the western hemisphere. With many unique machines the museum will be breathtaking to all tank lovers. Sadly the German pavilion had been recently relocated to another location, however the Maus and some other machines are still there. Please note that nothing is in English (including people) and getting to this place on public transport might prove tricky. And well, the quality of everything is quite sketchy. Make sure you go with someone who speaks russian, otherwise these f***ers will scam you into paying three times the actual ticket price. Ps, beware of cafeteria food

Patriot Park is a large, sprawling outdoor museum displaying Russian fighter planes & rocket launchers, plus simulator rides. The collection of tanks and armoured vehicles is unbelievable, and the new Main Cathedral of Russian Army is beautiful. However, note that the equipment may only be visible on certain dates - so it's important to choose wisely if you wish to visit!
Had the privilege to visit this place on my 29th Birthday. USSR then and now Russia have been our most closest and loyal partners we have immense respect for our Russian brothers and visiting this place was always a wish. Tribute to fallen heroes. Long Live Mother Russia.! 💓

Snkparty1 — Google review
Visiting Park Patriot was more than just a walk through history — it felt like a quiet encounter with something greater. The scale of the park humbles you, reminding you of the sacrifices that built the freedom we often take for granted. But amid the tanks, monuments, and echoes of war, I found unexpected peace. At the heart of it all stands the Church — majestic, solemn, and deeply moving. As I stepped inside, the noise of the world faded. The scent of incense, the golden icons, and the sacred stillness all worked together to open a deeper place in me. It wasn't just a building. It was a sanctuary — for prayer, for memory, for the soul. Whether you're a believer or simply seeking meaning, I truly believe this place offers something beyond words. You don’t just leave with photos. You leave with a sense of awe — and perhaps a whisper from above.

Unbelievable collection of tanks and armoured vehicles. Beautiful new Main Cathedral of Russian Army, built of glass and steel. The iron pavement is made of German II WW captured armour, so one literally walks on the defeated armour. All in all, great place to visit.
Aleksandar L — Google review
The selection of tanks and other military vehicles on display is impressive and the presentation of the exhibits is excellent. The site is nearly 60 km from the centre of Moscow and as others have commented is not easy to get to using public transport. I took a taxi for the day from the Mitino district of Moscow and also visited the older tank museum at Kubinka. The price for the day was 4,000 Rubles, which I thought was reasonable. The number and variety of military vehicles is far greater than at Victory Park in the city and if you are a military buff Patriot Park really is a must see!

This is a former noble estate in the village of the same name in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region, where A. S. Pushkin spent his early childhood. He came here every summer from 1805 to 1810 and stayed with his grandmother Maria Hannibal. Directions to the Zakharovo estate: from the Belorussky railway station in Moscow by Zvenigorod electric train to Zakharovo station (walk forward to the end of the platform and then along the asphalt path to the Zvenigorod highway, cross it along the zebra crossing and walk perpendicular to the highway to the estate museum). Or go to Golitsyno station, then by bus No. 22, minibus No. 22, No. 65 to the Zakharovo stop. By bus or car: 44 km of Mozhaiskoe highway, turn to Zvenigorod - 2 km to Zakharovo.

Quiet place with a "frozen in time" vibe. Here you can see the very pond where famous poet A.S. Pushkin learned to swim; here you can also see the home of Maria Alekseevna Hannibal (Pushkin's grandmother). Would recommend touring the museum (museum is small, but very cozy; offers a peek into the quiet life of a 19th century Russian home). Only real criticism is that the museum and the surrounding grounds have a bit of a disorganized and unfinished appearance to them.

(Translated by Google) Deafening silence and tranquility are the first and, perhaps, main impressions left after visiting this museum-reserve. I arrived on a weekday in February and was very happy about it...there were no crowds of tourists, so I was able to immerse myself in the historical past of the Estates. Magnificent architectural monuments, which are united into an entire palace and park ensemble of the 16th-19th centuries... everything literally breathes history. The territory is landscaped, tracers are neatly and discreetly installed on the paths, through which visitors are told remarkable facts from the life of the families who owned these lands. In total, there are about 20 historical and cultural monuments on the territory of Vyazem. And the unforgettable feeling that you are walking along the same paths along which Boris Godunov, and False Dmitry, and Kutuzov and Napoleon walked - makes this trip unforgettable! Heartfelt gratitude to the museum staff for the stories and warmth of the welcome!

(Translated by Google) Of course, the best time to visit this place is in the summer. So that you could take a walk and admire the buildings on the estate. I was impressed by the two libraries inside the palace. It’s a pity that you can’t get books and read the text that you were reading at that time. The title of the book “History of the Mental Development of Europe”, “Russian Genealogical Book” probably contains the answer to what books were of interest to the owners of the estate. There is a certain taste in the decoration of the palace.

(Translated by Google) A ticket to the Palace costs 480 rubles for adults, 330 rubles for children over 7 years old. Be prepared to be kicked out of the hall if at the same time someone in the same hall is listening to the excursion. The caretakers of the halls no longer monitor the safety of the exhibits, but to ensure that, God forbid, you do not accidentally hear the tour guide nearby. Suggestion to the director: there is no need to sell entrance tickets to visitors without excursions if their presence without excursions is not beneficial for the Museum. And we will not need to be driven out of the hall into hall. I have no desire to go and recommend it to friends. But great people built an estate and left a property that people should admire. This is our history.

Shortly, the sight was flooded like some other villages around. Only the bell tower has survived. In the winter it’s possible to walk down the ice to achieve the tower and touch it.

On a sharp turn, we passed Kalyazin, a small town in the Tver region, known for its dramatic history of being flooded during the construction of the Uglich Reservoir in 1939-1940. This town is often referred to as the "Russian Atlantis" due to the loss of its architectural monuments and historic streets beneath the water. The most famous landmark in Kalyazin is the submerged bell tower of St. Nicholas Cathedral, which stands in the middle of the Volga River. Built in 1800 in the classical style, it was originally part of a monastery. It is 74.5 meters tall and once had 12 bells, the largest of which weighed 8 tons. When the city was flooded, the bell tower was left as a beacon for ships due to the sharp turn of the river at that location. It is said that the largest bell fell into the basement during the dismantling process, and since then it sometimes "rings" on its own, warning of disasters, such as the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War and even the Afghan War. In 2021, the bell tower was restored, the foundation was reinforced, the clock was repaired, and new bells with automatic ringing were installed.

The only cultural site in the town. 15-20 mins is more than enough to explore and take a picture.
