(Translated by Google) Very nice interactive museum about the smuggler Louis Mandrin. With a Dutch spoken audio tour. Our children, aged 8 and 11, and we thought it was a great activity on a drizzly day. (Original) Erg leuk interactief museum over de smokkelaar Louis Mandrin. Met een Nederlands gesproken audio tour. Onze kinderen van 8 en 11 een wijzelf vonden het een prima activiteit op een druilerige dag.
Frank K — Google review
(Translated by Google) It is quite a nice and informative museum. It was still difficult for our children (8 and 6) to follow, which was probably partly because the Dutch audio did not work well in all places (sometimes fragments that belonged to another room were played, which was confusing). Useful to know in advance for those who want to go here: at the end you get a treasure map. Our children were really looking forward to working on this, but then it turned out to be a map for the area, which means you will spend at least half a day and need a car to visit all the places. We arrived at the museum without a car and an hour before closing time, and it was also our last day - so there was no time to return the treasure map in full. The children were disappointed that there was no surprise for them, even though they had been told about this in advance. The employee was very friendly, but I thought it was strange that she did not touch her heart and did not just give the children the surprise (probably this was a simple lollipop that was on the counter, I would have liked to have looked at it there and then). pay).

Temporarily Closed
Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
Water tumbles down mossy rocks at a riverside beauty spot with a raised walkway & viewing deck.
Cascade de la Glandieu is a really beautiful spot and totally worth a visit if you’re nearby. The waterfall looks amazing, with water flowing down over green mossy rocks into a calm pool. It’s not super big, but it’s got this peaceful vibe that makes it feel special. Just standing there and watching the water fall is kind of calming. Recommend!! The walk to get there is short and easy...not tiring at all. There’s free parking close by, which is super convenient. You don’t need to plan a whole trip around it; even a quick stop is enough to enjoy the place. There are a couple of restaurants and cafés near the waterfall, so you can grab something to eat or drink while enjoying the view. It’s a chill place where you can just relax for a while and take some nice photos. It’s great for anyone...families, couples, or even if you’re on your own. You don’t need to hike or anything fancy, just a simple walk and you’re there. Overall, it’s a cool and peaceful spot that doesn’t take much effort to enjoy. If you like nature and quiet places, you’ll definitely like this one.
Anirudha S — Google review
Definitely a natural highlight of the area worth checking out. Impressive waterfall. The flow can vary quite a lot according to the weather and season. There is a parking area just nearby. Be aware there is no structure (yet ?) to sit and relax and swimming is prohibited. There isn't much of a pool any way. However there is a nice hotel-restaurant terrace just across the river.
Cyril G — Google review
Be careful… unfortunately, someone broke into our car. The police told us this happens often in this area.

Nice waterfall , relaxing environment, walks and hikes possible. The town is a reminiscent of the past old houses and historic farm buildings

Worth the visit. We went at 9:30 on Monday morning and It was just us.
Sheldon K — Google review
Very beautiful (and green) water falls. Directly located beside the road, so it is easy to visit, and no lang walk is needed. There are also several nice hike trails in this area, with good directions and a variated trail.
John R — Google review
Very nice waterfall, but crowded. It feels a bit commercialized. However, great ice-cream at the shop with local food just down the road.

Lac d'Aiguebelette

A very enjoyable cycle around this beautiful lake. Some excellent cycle trails and paths to help keep off the busy road on one section. Stunning views and many pretty viewpoints. Looks like quite a few places to stay or camp in the summer. Lots of recreation available for all ages.

Val R — Google review
Breathtaking! Had my first experience of sailing on the lake and it was just awesome. Jumped in the water at a depth of 145 m deep. What an amazing memory.
PME E — Google review
Lac d’Aiguebelette isn’t just a lake — it’s a place where time slows down, where beauty feels untouched, and where some of the most precious memories with people I admire were made. Nestled in the Savoie region of France, this emerald-green lake offers more than just stunning scenery; it holds an emotional weight that’s hard to put into words. The first time I visited, I was struck by the peacefulness. No motorboats, no crowds — just the stillness of the water, the green hills wrapping around like a quiet embrace, and the reflection of the sky dancing on the surface. But what truly gives Lac d’Aiguebelette its magic is the company I’ve shared it with. It’s where I spent long afternoons with people who matter deeply to me — people I respect, look up to, and am lucky enough to call friends and family. We shared laughs on paddleboards, quiet conversations by the shore, and sunset walks that felt like scenes from a film. Each visit brought something meaningful: a deeper bond, a shared story, a new inside joke. The lake became our meeting ground, our retreat, our shared secret. It brought us closer. To me, Lac d’Aiguebelette is more than a travel destination — it’s a mirror of connection, a backdrop to important moments, and a living album of some of the people I admire most. I carry it with me wherever I go. And every time I think of it, I smile.

Abbaye d'Hautecombe

Mentioned on
1 list
Abbey
Sights & Landmarks
Abbaye d'Hautecombe is a historic monastery that has served as the burial place for members of the House of Savoy since the 12th century. The stunning architecture and picturesque natural surroundings make it a magnificent place to visit. The interior design features a spectacular blend of Baroque and Neoclassical styles, creating a unique atmosphere. Visitors can explore the abbey with a multilingual audio guide and take in its spiritual ambiance during the 45-minute tour.
Absolutely must see if you are here, take an audio guide and learn about the history of this place. Pity that the garden is closed but you can walk a bit near by to enjoy the abbey view from the water
Katerina K — Google review
Beautiful situated and a very touching church, audio guide.
Mai-Britt L — Google review
Although Hautecombe Abbey was founded in the 12th century by Cistercian monks, it's had a chequered history. Apparently it was even turned into a factory making china and other ceramic goods in the early 19th century. Indeed, most of what's visible today dates from the 19th century. There are a few good alabaster pieces but most of the ornamentation has just been copied from medieval stuff situated elsewhere. Frankly there's not much to see here apart from the chapel. However, the site, on the north-western side of the Lac du Bourget, is pleasant enough. There's a gift shop selling mostly Catholic kitsch but no refreshments. The toilet facilities are awful. One lot were completely shut even though we visited at a peak time (Sunday afternoon). The one that was open was so dingy it was necessary to use the torch light on a mobile phone.
C O — Google review
Mausoleum abbey of the Savoy family, a place steeped in history on the shores of the lake. The heterogeneous reconstruction in terms of styles gives it a special feature, but maintains a beautiful spirituality. The visit goes with multilingual audioguide and takes 45min. The shop offers a lot of local products to buy. Large car parking with shadow.
A G — Google review
Absolutely stunning. The people are friendly and the audio guides are amazing. You can spend a couple of hours here experiencing the calmness and history of this magical Abbaye.
Magda K — Google review
Stunning architecture and amazing nature view around it. This abbaye has been sitting peacefully by the lake since 12th century. Interior design is spectacular. Ceilings and majority of the building are in style of Baroque, a few corners in style of Neoclassicism. There's a entry fee of €4.5. Audio guide device and introduction sheet (option of several languages, which I find it rare in France, very international tourist friendly) are available. Very worthwhile to pay a visit.
Elfin W — Google review
We took the boat trip from Grand Port. We would have liked to visit the church at the Abbey, but there were tour groups who were given priority in front of us, we were ignored by the ticket office and ran out of time.
Barbara O — Google review
Off the beaten path historic abbey with interesting church that contains alls tombs of the Savoy family. The situation on a cliff overlooking the lake is superb, so don’t miss to walk down to the lake pier to photograph the site above the lake as you will not realize it when visiting otherwise. Another nice point of view is from the road that passes a few hundreds meters above the abbey; stop at Belvedere d’Ontex on D914 for an instaworthy shot. Do mind the closing time over lunchtime.

Casino Grand Cercle Aix-les-Bains is a luxurious casino that has been around since 1847 and offers an exquisite setting for gaming. It features a wide array of entertainment options, including 222 slot machines, 6 Game of Thrones interactive slot machines, and 18 electronic English roulette stations. The casino also hosts various table games such as poker, ultimate poker, English roulette, and blackjack.
The grand casino is worth the visit. Inside the building you can admire the Art Deco ceiling.
Agnès G — Google review
I went to the Grand Cercle Casino at Aix-les-Bains, not long ago to see a musical comedy of Miserables, organized by Aix-les-Bains conservatory and treater school. The interior of the Casino is grandiose, the ceilings magnificent, colorful and gilded. There's also a large statue in the center of the entrance. The auditorium is very pleasant, well laid out, the signs are comfortable and the architecture provides perefctaccoustics. And the staff are very pleasant. A small downside for the parking, where you couldn't longer pay by card, which seems to be a recurring problem ... But I recommend it !
Rachel D — Google review
The building itself is beautiful but it hasn't been helped by it now being a casino
Paul D — Google review
This was the first casino I’ve been inside - I was more interested in seeing the inside of the building which I think is 200 years old and the ceilings are very ornate and lovely architecture in this old building. Did think it was spoiled a bit by all the flashing lights of the electronic machines - they weren’t particularly exciting from my perspective but quite a few people sitting there just constantly hitting buttons to play the machines. You did need a passport to get in (or other national identity document - dont think driving licence counts).. Worthwhile to see inside, but if you’re not into gambling could easily be in and out in 10 mins.
Craig S — Google review
Nice ambience and the hall has an impressive ceiling. Finding parking was a mission possibly being the weekend. A bit too crowded for my liking as at one stage, it was difficult to find a place at virtual roulette machines. I did not check out the lounge which looked posh and quite well stocked. The drink choice at the small bar however was very limited.
Sebastian A — Google review
Beautiful and impressive building, historical. Lots of cash machines, free coffe and juices, no daylight, everything is done to make you stay as long as possible and forget time is running.
Rach L — Google review

Mont Revard is a mountain peak standing at 1562 meters and is popular for hiking and skiing. It is sometimes included in the Tour de France. Although not the tallest in France, it offers stunning views of Aix les Bains, the valley below, and the rest of Bauges Massif. The climb up can be challenging and dangerous, suitable only for experienced hikers with no running allowed.
Wonderful panoramic views down into the valley and the mountain beyond. The viewing platforms are superb elevated spots to see for miles. Great walks along the ridgeline & forest trails. Love this place.

Great location for hiking or even taking a hot drink and enjoying the view. Many visitors, winter or summer, for skiing or mountain activities.

It has a magnificent view of the lake Bourget and Alps at the same time to opposite direction.
Ekrem P — Google review
It’s a beautiful summit. Not the highest in France but it overlooks Aix les Bains and the lake in the valley below and it’s possible to see the rest of the beautiful Bauges Massif from this point. The hike up is steep and at times a little perilous - for proper hikers only; no runners. You’re rewarded at the top with a large bar/restaurant to rest those weary legs and inviting and friendly staff.

Fort l'Écluse

Mentioned on

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Fort l'Écluse is a unique military building perched above the stunning Pas de la Cluse gorge. Despite its tranquil surroundings, the fortress has a tumultuous past, being at the center of numerous conflicts. Visitors can explore underground passageways and even embark on a via ferrata climbing route. The fort offers an exceptional panoramic view of the Rhone Valley from its 830 steps.
It was a sunny day with few clouds protecting the fort; when I looked at its height, I felt I was back in time. How has it stood like that for hundreds of years, shaped into the rock? It is a well-preserved Ford, and I am glad there is no elevator and the stars are authentic. You go back in history if you climb over 800 stars, but you need some athletic training, which is not for anyone. In any case, the staff will ask you about your fitness level, and you will answer some fitness questions for your safety. We did not go to the top because it was the climbing season, but it did not matter because a terrace near the top allowed us to admire the Rhone Valley. Inside, there are permanent and temporary exhibitions and a lovely souvenir shop! The employees are friendly, and there is also a small terrace with local beer, tea and coffee.❤️
Alexandru H — Google review
An interesting building/location and wonderful views across the area - if you’re brave enough to walk up the 850+ steps. You’re not allowed access to the top fort - I think this is only for people who’ve paid extra (a lot extra!) to do the ‘parcour’ tour, so that was a bit disappointing. There’s so much scope for having in depth exhibitions on the history of the the fort and its military occupants and having an actual museum (which is what I’d expected) but this was minimal - instead there was a small wildlife photography exhibition and an exhibition on global weather systems - which was unexpected and a bit odd! There were also loads of empty rooms and some covered in graffiti. The highlight is the view from the top, just below the upper fort and this is what you are essentially paying for. If you don’t want to/or can’t walk up the 850+ steps I would not bother paying for entry as there is not really much else to see or do inside the building - once you’ve looked in one dusty empty room you’ve seen them all - You can take in the grandeur and location of the building without actually going inside. Be aware the parking area is quite small and if you have an RV or it’s busy you may have to park on one of the lay-bys on the road outside

Surprising place seen on the way back to Geneva from Annecy. Placed in the middle of nowhere, built into the rocks, offering amazing views. Very clean with place for enjoying cup of coffee or live music.

Great place to watch live music or for various other cultural events throughout the year. The views are breathtaking and the history of the fort itself is very interesting. If you are feeling fit there are 1165 steps to climb to the top fort or for the more adventurous there is a moderately difficult via ferrata.
Tim M — Google review
The expositions are not as interesting as in other chateaux, they are random (e.g.one was about lightning and storms) and not really related to the purpose/history of the fort. There were however a few info boards aling the way. The climb of 830 steps of stairs is challenging, there's no cheat, if you want to get to the top, the only way is to go up all those stairs. Many, many flights of stairs that will take you almost to the top. The fort has about 1000-smth stairs but beyond 830 they're closed to the public unless you buy some kind of tour which I didn't really understand what it was since the explanation was in French. People also do rock climbing there, maybe they get to the very top. The views are nice, the descend is harsh of you have knee issues. If you climb to the top, take a pic as proof and show it to the staff at the café/boutique, they'll sign you a little diploma☺️

TOURIST SCAM AGAIN. we paid €17 to climb 830 steps and everything was locked. Trust me it was not worth it with a young family. You can’t see anything after climbing a painful climb. It is a SCAM. I was expecting some nice views after climbing those steps and what I see looked doors everywhere. They also have non sense expo in several rooms. I am still trying to recover from the climb.

Very cool place! Admission is very reasonable, and there are excellent views if you just wish to view the outside and not pay the entrance fare. Hiking is available in the region as well. Relatively difficult to access without a car though. If biking, beware road is heavily trafficked and fast moving. To access the upper for from the lower one, there is about 1000 steps, so be prepared! The bar in the lower courtyard also has a good selection of drinks and snacks
James N — Google review
Very interesting fort overlooking the Rhone with roots back to 1200’s but rebuilt and extended in 1800’s. A via ferrata to the upper fort for the fearless and 800+ steps in a steep tunnel built into the cliff leading to cannon emplacements for the rest. Interesting artwork and exhibitions in the lower fort structures are worth the low entrance fee if you don't fancy all the steps. The only negative was the sporadic service at the small cafe (which offered good coffee, wine, beer, and local cheese).

Lovely. Great for small kids.

(Translated by Google) A small museum of automata! It is human-sized and very well done, you just have to start the scenes. There are even some fountain fables. We didn't see the film due to lack of time but we were asked to come back in the afternoon which I found very pleasant. Smiling and pleasant staff To discover for adults and children alike (Original) Un petit musée des automates ! Il est de taille humaine et très bien réalisé il suffit de mettre en route les scènes. Gorges du Fier is a natural wonder in France, featuring a 300-meter-long and 70-meter-deep gorge with a river flowing through it. It's open for several months each year and offers an easy, picturesque walk suitable for families. The footbridge provides stunning views of the impressive rock formations, and there's even a cafe on-site serving hot food.
Such a magical place! I loved visiting this place, very beautiful and exciting. Go there and enjoy wonderful walk through this canyon for about 60 minutes. A ticket costs 6 euros and the staff are very friendly, they also have a small Café and the prices are fair.

A great place to enjoy nature! It’s comfortable even on very hot days thanks to the plenty of shade and the cool breeze from the river. The trail is easy and suitable for all levels..
Hila — Google review
This was a fun walk, wear sensible foot wear - mostly so you don't loose your treasured flip flop into the torrent below! It's not expensive and it's pretty spectacular. Not challenging (unless you're not keen on high suspended walk ways over gorges and rapids!). Can be quite busy and parts get congested and require you wait for your turn to pass.
Bridget W — Google review
Absolutely stunning natural gorge open for 156 years. The footbridge was nicely build since than but with upgrades of course. For non adventurous peraon like me, it's scary to walk on the footbridge but definitely worth going here. Recommend to wear anti-slip shoes and bring less things with you. Ticket is at €6
Joey W — Google review
Absolutely beautiful! Definitely worth the, in my opinion, small entry fee (€6,-). A nice walk through a steep and interestingly shaped gorge, where a narrow deck/bridge, suspended from the side of the wall, takes you along and above the flowing waters at the bottom of the crevices. For most of the route, the walkway is halfway between the top and bottom of the gorge, which gives a impressive view of the worn out stone and swirling river below. Near the end of the route, the walls open up and you get a view from just above the gorge. Looking down, there are many, massive blocks of stone that have sheared of the very walls you're standing on and have tumbled down into the waters. All in all a very impressive sight.

A truly magical place. I returned after two years and it didn't disappoint at all. Ps. look for the magic of the place, faces and creatures can hide in every stone ;)

Astonishing natural beauty with a wonderful high ledge walk. Was great that it was raining and quiet. Beautiful place

We had an amazing day there! We stayed in Annecy for a few days, without a car, and decided to go there by public transportation. It took around 1 hour by bus and we had to walk 20min (not an easy path, it was a steep descent which we had to go up after). The experience in Gorges du Fier worth the work to get there, the place is beautiful and it was not full of people, which made our pictures look so nice! There’s a small shop, bar and toilets before entering the park. Our card didn’t work to buy tickets so we paid with cash, keep this in mind because there’s no ATM there. I definitely recommend this visit! It’s totally possible with public transportation and walk but it’s easier by car! ☺️

Perched on a hill overlooking the old town, Musée-Château d'Annecy is a restored medieval castle that has been transformed into a museum. Constructed over four centuries from the 12th to 16th centuries, it was once the residence of the Counts of Geneva and Dukes of Genevois-Nemours. The castle now houses regional sculptures, paintings, and contemporary art, offering visitors a captivating journey through time.
Especially the museum is worth to visit this castle. You get a huge variety of exciting views into modern arts, history and also geographical and natural development of the whole region. You should not miss this. The entrance fee is very fair for what they offer!

It is a very impressive building, and the refurbishment of it is very impressive. Lots of history and at the moment has an art exhibition, which will please a lot of people, but I am afraid I am still old school. At 6.50 euros, it is great value. WC's are available in a couple of places, so no need to cross your legs. It's a shame they don't have rides to the top, from the market, but it was very hot, 31 degrees today. 20.06.25. A great visit, thank you 😊
DJGintheforest — Google review
There’s a fair few pieces of nice work in many mediums. I’m not so much of a fan of the modern artwork, but I loved a lot of the sculptures and landscape paintings. Much prefer the museum opposite.

It is worth the effort to walk up the short but steep hill to the chateau for the views alone but it was also worthwhile going inside. Lots of interesting art, both old and new (ish). It's a pretty cheap place to visit and you can go when it suits, no need to book ahead of time. We spent about an hour there which was more than enough. Takes about 10mins to walk there from the base of the hill on old town.

A must-visit in Annecy! ⭐️ Beautiful, historic, and very memorable! The castle offers stunning views of the lake and mountains, and the museum inside has a fascinating collection of regional art and history.
Tran N — Google review
Great expectations… and disappointments to match As impressive as the castle looks from the outside, the visit itself was just as disappointing. I'll start with what I liked (because this list is way shorter than the one with the negative points): 1. The painting gallery, where you can admire several works (originals, according to the supervisors) by great painters, including a small painting by Fragonard and, most notably, "The Massacre of the Innocents" by Pieter Brueghel the Younger 2. The (temporary) exhibition "L’épopée burgonde" - the arrival and installation of the Burgundians in Haute-Savoie region 3. Behind the castle, there is a spot from which you can admire Lake Annecy surrounded by mountains What I didn’t like: 1. Most of the rooms in the main castle building are completely empty: no furniture, drawings, paintings, period clothing, weapons, courtly objects… nothing but cement and wood 2. An almost total lack of information — the organizers didn’t bother to put up even basic informative panels, so many tourists wandered around speculating: “this was probably where…” 3. Many areas inside the castle are not accessible to the public 4. The old shooting holes have been “completed” with modern windows, which not only spoil the charm of the building, but also prevent visitors from taking photos, as the glass is far from transparent 5. The modern art exhibition is absolutely ridiculous — in fact, it’s not art at all (I’ll upload a picture so you can judge the quality of these so-called “works”). On top of that, the exhibition takes up many rooms on the upper floor — so many that it felt like it would never end 6. The other two buildings of the complex host exhibitions that have nothing to do with a medieval castle; for example, one of them focuses on the fauna of the nearby lake and on fishing vessels… well, if I want to know more about the fish in the lake, I’ll go to a fish-farming museum or a natural science museum, right? 7. In the basement of one of the towers there are several tiny aquariums, poorly maintained and without plants for the animals to hide in; each contains a few unhappy fish swimming in endless circles 8. The crenels of the towers have also been covered with windows through which you can’t take pictures (in fact, you can’t even see properly). This is even more frustrating because some of these windows overlook the beautiful Lake Annecy 9. If you’re thinking of climbing the walls or the fortified gate, think again — access is prohibited 10. On top of everything, I stood in line for tickets for a very long time… and I really regret doing so. Final score: 2 stars, and those only for the art gallery (which could just as well have been housed elsewhere, not in a restored medieval castle) and for the exhibition dedicated to the Duchy of Burgundy. Without them, even one star would have been too generous.

A wonderful castle standing on a slightly higher point in Annecy. One of the steep hills brings you there (not too steep for a wheelchair apparently as Ive seen people go up with some help) Be sure to check it out, sometimes it even has expositions inside, also the view from the castle is excellent

Nestled in the heart of the Thiou Canal, Palais de l'Île is a captivating medieval castle and former prison that has been transformed into an art and history museum. This 12th-century landmark has served various purposes over the centuries, including as a courthouse, mint, and residence for the Dukes of Savoy. Today, it stands as a picturesque symbol of Annecy's rich history and architectural heritage.
Early September and got good weather. A bit chilly in the morning but got better later. Don't expect to see much more than what the pictures show. Very picturesque but keep in mind this was an old jail so keep in mind what you are looking at.

This is Annecy `s most popular place. It is beautiful during the day as well as in the evening when it is lighted. We also visited it inside. Entrance fee is Euro 6. However we did not find anything interesting - rooms with information and that`s all. During the years the house has had various functions: it has served as prison, court and administrative building. If you take a look at the opposite direction from the bridge in front of it the view it is even more beautiful - there is a small waterfall and nice colorful buildings.

The Palais de l'Île is a stunning piece of medieval architecture and an iconic landmark nestled in the heart of Annecy's old town. Set dramatically in the middle of the canal, it’s incredibly picturesque—perfect for photos, especially from the nearby bridges. Walking by it feels like stepping into a storybook. The museum inside offers a good glimpse into Annecy's history, including the building’s use as a prison and administrative center. The rooms are small but atmospheric, with just enough information to keep it interesting without being overwhelming. Exhibits include historical artifacts and some temporary displays that are a nice surprise. That said, it’s a relatively quick visit—about 30 to 45 minutes tops—so manage expectations if you're looking for a full-scale museum experience. Some areas could use more detailed explanations or interactive features. Still, the value is fair for the entry price, and it's worth a stop, especially if you enjoy architecture or local history. Tip: try to go early in the day or during off-hours to avoid the crowds, and combine your visit with a stroll around the charming old town.

Dark little piece of history masked as a picturesque building dividing Le Thiou. Once a medieval prison and fortified house, now a museum dedicated to the region's architecture and heritage, the Palais has served several purposes over time as a mint, an administrative center, a barracks, a elderly home, and a temporary stonemasonry school. If anything, simply an icon of Annecy’s heritage, and worth a visit for a simple picture in day or illuminated at night.

The Tourist Office of Lake Annecy is a stunning building in the city, conveniently located near the lake. The staff is known for being supportive and helpful, ensuring that travelers have all the information they need to make the most of their time in Annecy.
Lake Annecy and the town of Annecy is a hidden gem in the French Alps. A large beautiful lake, reputed as the cleanest in Europe is, connected with canals that criss-cross the town with the backdrop of snow peaked mountains and fringed with small habitats and beautiful buildings all round makes for a great outing. We had a one hour boat ride around the lake and were swept over with the sheer beauty of the emerald Lake and its surroundings as can be seen from the attached pictures and videos. Truly exhilarating! The cobbled mediaeval town has many places of interest including chateaus, cathedrals, prisons and the ubiquitous eateries and shops lining the canal, and in the town. The canals remind us of Venice and the best way to explore this place is by foot in addition to a boat ride on the lake. If you are in France for a few days, I would definitely recommend a visit to this beautiful town nestled in the Alps!

The office de tourisme is easy to access from the SNCF station and the staff was very kind, they could speak English, so our bad french wasnt a problem. I loved the recommended parcours, there were two to choose from and we ended up mixing the two. Annecy is not overrated at all, it's a beautiful town, with old buildings, castles, churches and the amazing, cristal clear lake, everywhere you look is a feast for the eyes. We went on a national holiday and on top of that, there was a volleyball championship and an animation event going on, so there were lots of people outside the normal tourists, I assume. Don't miss on the château de Menthon Saint Bernard! It's a bit far, but easy to access from the bus line. The only thing is that there were fewer buses circulating, since it was a holiday. We couldn't get in the castle due to the time, but even the entry for the gardens was worth it, the scenery is simply amazing. I'd recommend at least 2 days in Annecy if you want to see the museums and everything else. We went only on a day trip from Lyon and it was enough for the Tour around town, but we couldn't get into any museums due to the time, which was a shame.

Visually impressive town. Beautiful lakes, canals and waterways. Most shopkeepers act as tourist guides and I tell you that the fast moving waters of the canals are fed by glaciers. Massive array of restaurants to eat from... real provincial authentic french food. Not that expensive if you are using euros, any other currency, and it starts to get very pricey. You need at least 3 days here to look at Lakeside beaches, castles, canals. Mountains and it's all centered around Annecy Lake. We were lucky enough to go on the most auspicious day of the year. Much celebration and finished in the evening with an hour and a half fireworks display. A must go to secret.

Wrong people manning the post. I asked 2 questions to a young lady manning the counter 1. Where is the lift to carpark? 2. How can I get parking package? She directed me to the wrong direction for the lift and make me walked to another building to purchase the parking package. I was told to go back where I parked and package can be purchase at the ticket machine. Simple steps but she don't know any of it. Or she simply dislike tourists. Wasted time just because of her.

Large office space with at least 4 employees taking care of tourists. I guess it depends on the member pf the staff you get, the service you get. First lady was in a rush, provided some incomplete information regarding walking trails and how to get there. Had to go back and second person was a little more thorough. Ended up walking a short trail far from the city, would have been better to walk along the lake closer to the city center.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Annecy Tourism Office for their outstanding support during my visit. Unfortunately, I discovered upon arrival that the hotel reservation I had made was a scam. They not only reassured me but also quickly helped me find safe and comfortable new accommodations. Their knowledge, efficiency, and compassion turned what could have been a disastrous experience into one where I felt truly supported and looked after. If you’re in Annecy, a stop at the Pont des Amours is a must. Nestled between the peaceful waters of Lake Annecy and the tree-lined canals of the Jardins de l’Europe, this charming iron footbridge isn’t just a picturesque viewpoint — it’s steeped in legend and local romance. The name Bridge of Love is no accident. According to local lore, if two lovers kiss on the bridge, they’ll stay together forever. Whether or not you believe in the magic, the setting is undeniably dreamy: swans glide beneath you, the Alps rise in the background, and the lake sparkles under the sun.

I took a day trip from Lyon, a great place, I'm sorry I only stayed one day, it's definitely worth 2-3 days! A place not to be missed if you're in the area!

It is a MUST to go, partying, water scakating, swimming and lots of boat cruises around the great lake surrounded by magnificent mountains. 30 min away and your up amongst snowy mountains as early as September.

It's a great family activity. We've been twice now whilst staying in the area. The first time was in August 2023 and we visited again in August 2024. The second time was on a cooler day, only 22C degrees, and that meant that the crowds stayed away and we enjoyed 4 hours of no queues for any slides or activities! It was great! We have seven children, aged 9 mo to 15 years old and everyone had a great time.

We just used the spa area which was lovely and great value! Afterwards, showers aren't so powerful/hot and the button maybe lasts 20 seconds... but whatever, if you do not have plans after then not such a big deal :) otherwise, the hairdryers which are located outside the showers are not the only ones available- after you've got dressed etc, there's proper hairdryers outside, directly opposite the changing rooms, so no stress 😉

I love this place. Make a year subscription and enjoy the indoor and outdoor pool ♥️ So many slides to enjoy. The showers are clean, you have private ones or you can use the ones for all, depending on the type of person you are. The place is clean and has so many things to enjoy. There’s also a restaurant inside the pool.

Fantastic place for the whole family! Have been to the kids gym area and the aquatic park. Both are great! The warm pool at the aquatic park is perfect for everyone, including our 1 year old. The kids pools are a bit chilly for a baby, but just fine for preschoolers and such. Next time will definitely try the huge slides!

Facilities are nice. Overall, it's still quite new and also very clean in general. Their booking/tag system (especially for their long-term customers Formule Liberte) has never worked very well. A lot of things are forbidden and they are overly strict with discipline, which makes it quite a sterile/policed kind of atmosphere compared to other family adventure swimming pools. It can get very crowded, so choose your slot well.

Done some shopping at super u. Not bad prices. In shopping mall. Dogs not allowed in the mall so not friendly. Would not visit again. Wife had to stay outside with dog.

I went in front of the reception at 20:10. I asked which possibilities were available. Swimming pool and gym at that time. I chose for the swimming pool. Once inside, 20:14, the guys from salvatage told me the swymming was already closed. Because they close 20:15 to permit the cleaning and the closure at the 20:30. I went back to reception (20:21) and I asked why they didn’t tell me nothing….The woman went away and another one came to told me that the other colleague told me before….NO SENSE FOR ME GO INSIDE IF IS CLOSED!!! LYER!!! I also asked for chenage to change the thicket for the gym. Because I used the ticket before for nothing. She reply me, no is not possible because the ticket is for one emtrance only…. So, LIER and UNWELCOMING

Salève, located in Haute-Savoie, is a hidden gem offering stunning panoramic views of Geneva and the surrounding areas. Accessible by trails, road, or cable car, it provides a tranquil escape with the possibility of clear views extending over Geneva and Lake Geneva. The area is popular for hiking with various trails available and even guided hikes with donkeys for families.
This was my Second Best Hiking Experience It was a beautiful summer day when we arrived at the Téléphérique du Salève. We took the lift to the top and visited the Observatoire du Salève, which offers the most amazing view of Geneva. The breathtaking beauty of the landscape was unforgettable! On our way to the summit, we passed by the Tibetan temple, a serene and unique sight. When we finally reached the top, we treated ourselves to a meal at the restaurant, enjoying delicious French fries and burgers (vegetarian options are also available), accompanied by refreshing drinks. It was such a lovely and memorable day!
Mika S — Google review
If you’re in Geneva, this is a great place to visit! The view is amazing and you can see all of Geneva from above. We went up the mountain on the cable car, if you have a Swiss pass or a student you can get a discount. You may also choose to hike up or down the mountain. On the level you will exit the cable car on, there’s a cafe, gift shop, interactive activities, bathrooms and an outside area. From this outside area, you may choose to hike further up the mountain or explore the area, there are some restaurants a short hike from this area. The cafe has coffee, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, baked goods, pastries, sandwiches and small bites. There’s an indoor sitting area with couches and table and chairs. You can sit, have a coffee and admire the view in the warmth of the cafe. There’s gift shop has some cute things for purchase such as key rings, candles, keepsakes, pens, stuffed animals etc. They also offer a disposable ash tray and alcohol wipes for free. If you choose to stay on the Saleve facility, there is a lift and stairs to go up to the other levels/facilities. There’s an outdoor 360 platform on the top level where the view is even more amazing, your head will literally be in the clouds! You will need to scan your ticket from the cable car to access it. On the middle level there is a restaurant and conference rooms. The restaurant offers a ‘menu’ which is a set menu where you can choose between 2 options for each course. It was fully booked so we were unable to try it but it was surprisingly reasonably priced! To go back down, the cable car runs every 15 minutes. This is the second time we’ve done this!

I took dog with me. We enjoyed the Landscape enormesly. Paths and that's are bit worn so good shoes are necessary. Views are breathtaking.
Juha S — Google review
Some decent viewpoints on top. The hike from all the way down to the top was a bit disappointing. Paths on southern side was not very nice and some trash lying around here and there. The more popular path, on the side of the cable cart was a bit better. The hike from Mornex was 2 hrs up and 1:15 down, about 800 m elevation in total. I didn't like that there are roads and private areas everywhere all the way to the top.

A short walk across the French border is a mountain frequented by locals of Geneva. We were afraid of going to Mont Blanc because of the altitude. It was a great trip!
David S — Google review
Loved it. Hiked alone for 6 hours on May 23 - views were magnificent
Ema H — Google review
A great spot for scenic panoramic views of Geneva and of the Alps. From Geneva you can get a local bus to the French border, walk a short distance to the cable car which will take you to the top of the mountain, and you can trek the short distance the rest of the way along the mountain to its highest point. It’s also possible to tandem paraglide down off the mountain if you organise it in advance, definitely worth doing
Mathew T — Google review
Outstanding experience hiking your way up the Salève. You will be exposed to marvellous landscapes and enjoying the vibrating and diversified nature. The path is well maintained and offers different possibilities. Breath the clear air and enjoy the day. Definitely recommended 👌.

We visited early August 18, was really impressed. We arrived at 10am, took the chair lift up (the rides open at 11am) the walk to the summit is very nice, as a family of a wide range of ages, 6 up to 60, we were all able to make the first view point and I scrambled the reming 200m to the top. A total height of just over 2000m. Nice cafe hut at the top of chair lift. Serves tea coffee, crêpes etc. Prices reasonable. Took the chair lift back down. Did all the activities and had lunch in then restaurant which was well priced, good food, excellent service. We were there a total of 8hours and it felt like 2, the rides are great. Good quality, well maintained, clean and professional. Suitable for all ages, for example the luge run (mini 2 person roller coaster) is great, fastbif you want it, and brakes can be used to slow you down if you like. Little ones can ride with an adult. The rubber rings are great for the little ones, and they can even do the mini ski jump on to a giant crash mat. Out kids has a whale of a time and we would definitely return. Also we (2x dad's and a teenager) loved the go karts of which you get towed to the top on a button lift then roll down. The go karts are full suspension disc brakes, very fast! Loved it:)
David R — Google review
Small, family kind of station, with a single lift and several attractions for both kid and adults. Due to a bit remote location it's rather quiet, although the activities get crowded on the weekends (in summer). Good place to start a hike with spectacular views on both the Annecy Lake and the Mont Blanc range. Also a paragliding take off with commercial tandem flights available for non-pilots.
Mikołaj K — Google review
Very fun. Safe. Low attendance at noon. Children above 1.05m can take rides. Funny pictures. Amazing view on the mountain.
Antoine B — Google review
What a great place! There is a few things to do here, try the luge which is fast but safe. Or try the downhill course for the buggies. You can even try the free slack lines, some people make it look easy but it's certainly not, but good fun. The buggies you steer yourself down a course with long runs and tight bends. If you don't fancy that just take the ski lift to the top and enjoy the amazing views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding mountains. There are public toilets at both the base station and at the top. If you are energetic you can hike up from the base station too. And when at the top it is another hike to the top peak of La Sambuy which is 1198m high! Wow!!
GLENN C — Google review
Never been on a ski lift before but was ea9to get on and off than I expected. Views on way up/down amazing so was the views on top. Good value for money and also did the bombsledge and tubeing.
Andy B — Google review
What a view! We got here early and got the chairlift up to the top, literally a few others around and even a place to get a drink. After taking in the views we then enjoyed the ride down. From here we got a coffee at the restaurant and enjoyed a few goes on the luge which was great fun.

Specialty Museums
Situated in the heart of the Planpalais neighborhood, the Patek Philippe Museum is a captivating destination for enthusiasts of watchmaking and 19th-century design. Housed in a former watch workshop, this museum offers an extensive insight into Switzerland's renowned watchmaking industry.
This museum is exquisite if you want to learn the history and get up close to hundreds of beautiful watches from as far back as watch making goes. I easily spent 2 hours there on all four floors. The audio guide is free but you will need a hard copy of phot id. Driving license, passport etc. Security is tight and bags have to be deposited too. Once in it a wonderful insight into watchmaking. I thoroughly recommend. Good value.

If you're looking for a unique museum experience that's different from the usual, this place is a must-visit! It's an officially recognized museum with an incredible collection of antique clocks and timepieces, some of which date back to ancient centuries. The amount of detail and history behind each piece is truly fascinating. What makes the visit even more enjoyable is the interactive tour provided via iPads, available in English, French, and German. The guided tour is super informative and really brings the museum to life. The feeling you get while walking through the exhibits is like being transported back in time. Each clock, each antique, tells a story. It's more than just a museum — it's a time-travel experience! Highly recommended for history lovers, clock enthusiasts, or anyone looking for something special and different to do.

When in Geneva, Switzerland, visiting the Patek Philippe museum is a must. Unfortunately, I visited with a bus tour and not everybody wanted to come in so I had to rush. I only had one hour but I saw the most amazing beautiful watches in my life. I bought tickets two weeks prior to this visit to cut down on wait time, and I also watched an interview on line with the director of the museum that was most interesting. I concentrated on the second floor that houses an incredible antiques collection, and then the first floor that displays the beautiful Patek Philippe collection. On the ground floor there is a wonderful display of watchmakers workbenches as well as a reception and security desk, and you can get a token for the lockers in the basement. You have to lock up any backpacks or any baggage in a locker. Or it will cost you 2 CHF but you get it back when you take your stuff out. There is also a restroom by the locker room.
FLnurseER1 — Google review
An amazing experience! The visit offered a deep dive into the fascinating history of the Patek Philippe brand and how it all began. Even without a guided tour, the museum is wonderfully organized and easy to follow, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace. Each floor presents a different chapter in the evolution of watchmaking — from the earliest pocket watches and intricate mechanisms to the modern masterpieces that define Swiss precision and luxury. The collection truly highlights the innovation, craftsmanship, and artistic beauty that Patek Philippe brought to the world of watches. A must-visit for anyone coming to Geneva — even if you’re not a watch expert, you’ll leave inspired and impressed by the legacy of this remarkable brand.
Haitham M — Google review
A Must-Visit for Every Watch Lover! If you’re into watches, this place is an absolute must! Start from the 3rd floor and work your way down — the collection is unbelievable. You get to see everything from early timepieces to stunning modern masterpieces, all beautifully displayed. The museum is really well organized, and you can feel the history and craftsmanship in every piece. Even if you’re not a hardcore collector, it’s still super interesting and worth the visit. Definitely one of the highlights of Geneva for anyone who appreciates fine watches!
Emma G — Google review
Fascinating museum filled with multiple floors of incredible time-piece history. I reserved the day before and spent a little over an hour wondering around in awe of the displays. They provide complimentary self-guided tours with a tablet and headphones to learn about the collections. Upon arrival large bags must be stored in the lower floor lockers.
Alan Y — Google review
You could easily spend a whole afternoon in this beautiful museum even if you are not a watch enthusiast. The exhibition starts on the 3rd floor with a library and some enamel miniature portraits, continues on the 2nd floor with the Antique Collection that displays watches from 1500 to 1850 and it ends on the 1st floor with the Patek Philippe Colletion, that comprises the most iconic watches of the Swiss watchmaker from its foundation in 1839. The ticket costs only 10 CHF and they give you also a tablet as audioguide.
Francesco X — Google review
What a nice discovery. I am not so keen on watches, but visiting Patek Philippe Museum was an amazing experience. I saw all sorts of watches from around the world and impressed by the arts crafts skills watch makers have had over the centuries. But what I liked the most was seeing the patents showcased in the Museum and the Patek's will for his children as these reminded me about why I do certain kinds of works.

Attraction featuring a 45m waterfall with a zipline, plus a cave network with guided tours.
Very nice small cave (tour with guide) and waterfalls. It is possible to go to waterfalls without taking a tour of the cave. The cave paths are slippery and, at some places, very low, so be advised to go in there. Prices for adults: 6€ for the waterfall and 10€ for the cave (including waterfall). Maybe a little bit expensive for the small walk.

A lovely attraction with a beautiful waterfall, stunning views, and a cool cave—perfect for hot summer days. It’s around 13–14°C inside, so bring a light jumper if you visit in summer. The guide was wonderful, funny, and kindly translated everything into English, which made the experience even better. Thank you for a great visit.

Beautiful waterfall. Easy walk up and down to the bottom of the falls. Keep an eye out for the tree that has grown upside down 🙃 easy parking, there is no cost for the visit but you can buy a tour to do the 250m underground cave but this is optional
Tim E — Google review
It's something nice, natural and modest, made profitable by what seems to be a family business. It sounds like a lesser experience but I recommend it nevertheless. The waterfall Is beautifull, going there is painless and if you add the modest cave delightfully presented by a very funny guide, and the adrenaline boost form a 60m slide in the canion... It's a must visit experience when near Annecy.

Waterfall is lovely and our guide on the cave tour was excellent. Nice spot to watch the world go by at the cafe/restaurant as well.
Liam C — Google review
Neat waterfall, with little gorge and steps/pools, and beautiful, lush surroundings as well. The path isn't very long, but it does afford great views of the waterfall and rock face from different heights and angles. There's also a small cave, which you can enter with a guided tour. The tour is about 45mins and takes you through what used to be an underground river system, that was formed before the water found another way and created the current waterfall. Tour is also in English. Wear decent shoes though, as the cave floor is quite slippery in places.

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
St Pierre Cathedral, also known as St. Peters Cathedral, is a significant landmark in Geneva's Old Town. The cathedral boasts a mix of architectural styles, including Neoclassical, Romanesque, and Baroque elements. It is renowned as the adopted home church of Protestant Reformation leader John Calvin. Visitors can explore the plain yet impressive interior and discover treasures dating back to antiquity on the archaeological site.
Cathedral Saint-Pierre in Geneva is best known as John Calvin’s home church during the Protestant Reformation. Built in the 12th century, it mixes Romanesque and Gothic styles. You can climb 157 steps to the north tower for Geneva’s best panoramic view. Beneath the cathedral lies one of Europe’s largest archaeological sites, with ruins dating back to the 4th century.

Impressive cathedral in the old town area with lots of period buildings around it. On a bit of a raised area but an easy walk up. Quiet, peaceful, can sit for as long as one likes. Free to enter, as it should be, but is not in some places. Different parts obviously built/added/repaired/rebuilt at different times, which is always interesting. Well worth a visit.
Timothy P — Google review
Undoubtedly, this is a majestic cathedral in the heart of Geneva, with stunning Gothic architecture and a historic stone façade. The church is very well preserved, and from its current state, you can almost imagine the grandeur it must have had 1,000 years ago. Inside, the serene atmosphere, detailed sculptures, and beautiful architectural features make it a remarkable place to explore. A must-visit for anyone interested in history or architecture.
Sweet K — Google review
Visiting St. Pierre Cathedral in Geneva was truly memorable. One of the highlights for me was climbing the 160 steps to the top of the tower. The stairwell is narrow and may be a little intimidating for some, but the effort is completely worth it. Once at the top, you’re rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Geneva and the surrounding area—perfect for photography enthusiasts. The cathedral also has a small shop where you can browse a selection of cards and postcards as a memento of your visit. Inside and out, the cathedral offers plenty of opportunities for taking beautiful photos, from its impressive architecture to the breathtaking vistas from the tower. Despite the slightly nerve-wracking climb, it’s an experience I’d highly recommend.

This cathedral is a highlight located in the center of Geneva's old town. The top offers a great view over the city and the lake. I recommend combining a visit with a walk to the beautiful nearby square "Place-Du-Bourg-de-Four" (my favourite place in old town). Take a break there for a snack and a drink. Enjoy!
Timo M — Google review
I always try to visit at least one church during my travels, though sometimes it doesn’t work out. I’m so glad I made it to this cathedral—it was actually one of the reasons I wanted to visit Geneva in the first place. I’d heard about the 157-step spiral staircase, and let’s just say I realized how out of shape I was while climbing it! But I made it, and it was absolutely worth it. Such a beautiful piece of history to experience. The fee to go up is currently at 7chp.

The Flower Clock, also known as L'horloge fleurie, is an iconic outdoor clock in Geneva that was designed in 1955. It features a face made of 6,500 flowers and shrubs that are changed seasonally. The flowers reportedly open and close their petals according to the time of day. This floral timepiece pays tribute to Geneva's status as the birthplace of fine watchmaking and has become a symbol of the city since its inauguration.
Nice spot in front of Lake Leman. When we visited it in July 2025, it was full of street vendors who did not allow us to appreciate its beauty and the area is also under construction. It is also very close the Wheel is a beautiful place. Visit the place.

Visiting L’Horloge Fleurie in Geneva was a wonderful experience! The flower clock is truly a masterpiece of art and nature combined. The design is beautiful, colorful, and always perfectly maintained. It’s located in a lovely park near the lake, making it a great spot for a relaxing walk or taking amazing photos. The flowers change with the seasons, so it always looks different and fresh every time you visit. It’s one of the most iconic landmarks in Geneva and a must-see for anyone visiting the city. A peaceful and charming place that perfectly represents Swiss precision and beauty.
Ahmad B — Google review
The L’Horloge Fleurie (Geneva Flower Clock) is one of the city’s most charming landmarks, perfectly combining Swiss precision with natural beauty. Located in the English Garden (Jardin Anglais), the clock faces the main road, making it easily accessible as you stroll through the park or along the lakeside, close to the Jet d'Eau. What makes it special, is that the flowers change with every season. The city’s gardeners carefully redesign it throughout the year, ensuring it always reflects the colours and mood of the time — from bright spring tulips to autumn blooms with hundreds of seasonal flowers. Although it’s a popular attraction, it’s best to visit on a dull or overcast day when there are fewer tourists. That’s when you can truly appreciate the clock’s detail and take unobstructed photos without the usual crowds. The clock was created in 1955 as a tribute to Geneva’s long-standing tradition of watchmaking. Beneath the floral design lies a fully functional timepiece, powered by Swiss engineering and precision, symbolising the city’s harmony between nature and technology. It truly is a must-see — a living symbol of Geneva’s elegance, craftsmanship, and love of beauty.
Metal M — Google review
This is one of the nice places you can visit and have your photo captured, having a beautiful memory that you've been to Geneva. I would recommend the sunset, where you can take a ride in the wheel to have glance at the beautiful view of seeing over the water and the city with pretty greenery. Feels like a illustration be Angelo himself. During the night the flower clock is well lit up and captures well, and a beautiful park being next to it, you can relax and enjoy the surrounding altogether as well. Very beautiful and calm place al together. (Don't forget to have glance at the memorial statues in vicinity as well)

L’Horloge Fleurie is one of Geneva’s most iconic landmarks. A must-see, especially considering Switzerland’s deep tradition of watchmaking – and in Geneva you’ll notice watches on every corner. The floral clock perfectly combines Swiss precision with natural beauty.
S B — Google review
It is one of the most beautiful places in Geneva, with sunshine, the lake, possibly the tallest fountain in Central Europe, ferries, statues, and a Ferris wheel — it has everything, simply perfect.
Stephon C — Google review
I have seen many creative floral installations before, including floral sculptures and other well-known flower clocks. However, when I finally visited Geneva’s famous L’Horloge Fleurie (Flower Clock), I experienced a slight sense of disappointment - not because it lacks beauty, but rather because its reputation is so grand that it naturally raises expectations. To be fair, the clock’s design is intricate, and the vibrant flowers give it a sense of energy and elegance. Yet in reality, it is smaller in scale than I had imagined, which may feel a little underwhelming if one visits only for this landmark. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, there were only a few tourists around, which made the experience calm but also highlighted how modest the Flower Clock actually is. That said, if you see it as part of a leisurely walk along Lake Geneva, passing by after a meal or while enjoying the lakeside scenery, it can still be a pleasant and relaxing stop.

Ancient Ruins
Nestled in the charming Esplanade des Marronniers, the Roman Columns stand as a magnificent tribute to ancient history, transporting visitors back to the era of Julius Caesar. Dating from 45 to 27 BC, these impressive remnants are all that remain of Noviodunum, once part of Colonia Iulia Equestris. A short hike leads you to this elevated park where you can soak in stunning vistas of Lake Geneva and its picturesque surroundings.
It's a nice small walk through the park to reach here

Monkeys was here! Why we don't have a cameras around the Column park ??? They must be punished and to clean all town for this vandalism

The 2 and half pillars of stone from the Roman times is located at the top of the garden. It's a small climb to the top but worth it. The view of the lake and surrounding area is beautiful. Besides this there is nothing much to do but sit on the benches and enjoy the view.

Lovely high up park we stumbled upon, pleased as punch to find out that it's where the Nyon Roman columns are! Kids were playing, adults smoking, dogs living their best lives in the sun. Gorgeous views to the lake, the town, and great shade

One of the few things to visit in Nyon. Good view from here. (and those travellers who want to fill their water bottles...there is a water fountain next to it)

Children's museum
Leman Lake Museum, located in the picturesque town of Nyon on the shores of Lake Geneva, offers a fascinating journey through the region's rich history and culture. The museum features well-organized exhibitions spread across three levels, showcasing artifacts from the Celtic Helvetians and Romans to the Middle Ages. Visitors can explore a small aquarium displaying fish native to the lake, as well as old boats and even a submarine. A highlight for kids is the rescue boat simulator where they can have an interactive experience.
An excellent little museum. The finest example of a freshwater fish collection i’ve seen publicly displayed. With a great collection of history and artefacts from the lake. Including some very cool and high tech stuff alongside the historical and natural displays. I will visit again. Cheap too.

Loved it! One ticket gets you into all three Nyon museums, and there are lockers for your bag—perfect for cyclists. Highlights for me were the aquarium and biology sections. Check out my photos. Totally worth the trip.

The most important thing to know when visiting museums in Nyon is that there are bundled tickets for all of them - buy 1 ticket from either Museum lac leman, the Roman museum and the Chateau de Nyon. No you don't have a choice to get just entry into 1. But it's cheap at only 8CHF so it's a good bargain if you just do two of the museums even. This was a small but highly enjoyable museum. There are some small aquariums on the ground floor that have common fish from the Geneva lake (I found it interesting to see uncooked perch 😆), lots of information on the lake life and even another cage with the smallest rodent in Europe. Loved it

Neat museum all about the history of Lake Geneva and fishing. Very nice variety of exhibits that both kids and adults would enjoy. Explanations are in French only so I had to use google translate. Surprised to see a few small aquariums and an adorable little mouse! I love Tintin, and was excited to see the inspiration behind Professor Calculus - just wish there was more!

A charming and thoughtfully curated museum with something to engage everyone, whether it be Tintin and Bande Dessinée, steam boats, Auguste Picard and bathyscaphes, the Lac Léman Tsunami or fish - it’s all there in a lovely lakeside setting with a view of Mont Blanc on a clear day!

Very cool museum, I definitely recommend checking it out. I also have to mention the very nice staff at the reception, two young gentlemen that were extremely nice and able to provide an english translation booklet.

Interesting place to visit for kids and adults. I didnt know there used to be a submarine in Lake Leman! A really nice kids park is just right next to it. Highly recommended

What a museum! We spent about 2 hours in here and my child was so happy! Clean and easy to go around, interesting deco, many small videos to watch. Such a hidden gem in Nyon!

Château de Nyon

Castle
Museums
Chateau de Nyon, a reconstructed 12th-century fortress turned museum, is situated in the heart of Nyon. The castle offers picturesque views of the lake from its outdoor terrace and houses various exhibits including armor, paintings, and porcelain. Visitors can explore the surrounding area with charming outdoor cafes and restaurants while enjoying the stunning scenery. The castle features beautiful gardens and a walkway along the river, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls.
We continued our historical odyssey of castles in the canton of Vaud, today visiting the Château de Nyon this second Saturday of March 2025. This magnificently restored castle dates back to around 1300 with a considerable fortification in the 16th century and taken over by the city of Nyon in the late 18 hundreds. Interestingly, the local prison was still operational on the top floor of the castle till 1979. After this the whole building has been converted into a historical and porcelain museum, reflecting on the importance of the city of Nyon. Our visit coincided with the international women's day and just now the museum features a special exhibition on women from Nyon and the surrounding region that have uniquely stood out over the centuries. Interestingly, there is only one of these women that has been considered worthy of giving her name to a street in town. What a shame!!

Small but very interesting land mark, well maintained, amazing views on the Alps of Savoy and when clear sky views on the Mont Blanc just in a straight line in front, from the popular esplanade of the castle. Just below the castle is the old town, a few gardens and a promenade.

Beautiful place to visit! ✨ Nyon Castle has such a charming atmosphere and offers stunning panoramic views of Lake Geneva and the Alps. It’s perfect for a peaceful walk, photos, or just enjoying the scenery. A must-see if you’re in Nyon! 🏰

Very nice views of the city, lake and lovely walk in the gardens and surrounding area.

A lovely castle where you can sit and enjoy the view. Bring your own drink or from one of the places nearby. Convenient but expensive parking underneath. The most beautiful elevator when you go up to the castle. Well worth it. A bit steep on the last steps going up so can be a bit difficult if you have mobility issues.
