Despite being Russia's fifth-largest city, Nizhny Novgorod may not be as well-known as other cities. However, it is a city worth visiting.
Nizhny Novgorod was founded in 1221. I notice wooden roof top on the tower. Nizhny Novgorod was a guard city in order to defense the city, again begin the construction works of the walls. There is a memorial wall artworks of soldiers lost in WWII. And on the hill with down the Volga River amazing view there is an eternal flame memorial wall for the unknown soldiers. Must visit.

The Kremlin offers a spectacular view of the city. You can take a sightseeing tour of four towers and a wall for 250 rubles (0.5$). A lot of old military equipment. A lively place. Very steep slopes, you need to be as careful as possible. Years of the construction of the towers are the 1500's. Nearby there are several good restaurants and cafes. There is a very long staircase to the embankment. In the Kremlin there are government buildings.

Very interesting place. With relatively well conserved walls and even some military vehicles from the second war era, the place is gives a nice experience for adults and children There are some gift small shops were you can get folk and soviet era souvenirs (the price is a little bit hide but nothing out of reality for a touristic place).

(Translated by Google) The Holy Trinity Convent in Murom is one of the brightest and most peaceful places where you feel peace and grace. The territory is well-groomed, everything is clean and tidy: beautiful flower beds, snow-white walls of temples and shining domes. What I especially liked: ✔ Cathedral of the Life-Giving Trinity - incredibly beautiful inside, you can feel a special prayerful atmosphere. ✔ The relics of Peter and Fevronia - pilgrims from all over the country come to them, especially those who pray for family well-being. ✔ rapeznaya - simple, lean food. Payment is cash only, so it's best to prepare in advance. Lunch in the photo 280 rub. ✔ Cafe with coffee and pastries - you can have a snack, buy monastery bread, gingerbread or jam. Come in good weather to enjoy the beauty of this holy place. An excellent option for both pilgrims and tourists - I recommend it to everyone! (Translated by Google) The Holy Trinity Monastery was founded on the site of a wooden church that had previously stood here in 1643, but was closed in 1921. The revival of the monastery began in 1991. The main shrine of the temple is the tomb with the relics of Saints Peter and Fevronia, patrons of love and marriage. The tomb is located in the Holy Trinity Cathedral. The cathedral is painted inside and is somewhat reminiscent of the Resurrection Cathedral in Tutaev. On the outside there are beautiful snow-white walls in very good condition, with beautiful built-in mosaic elements. This is the only temple that is open to the public; all other churches are closed. Candles can be purchased separately in the church shop behind the Cathedral. Cards are not accepted, only cash or transfer. The St. Sergius Church, moved from the village of Pyangus, Melenkovsky district, where it was built in 1715, is interesting. It was moved to the territory of the Trinity Monastery in 1913. If you arrive early, the monastery will be very quiet and comfortable. There is a refectory, entrance from Krasnoarmeyskaya Street.

(Translated by Google) “You will like Murom, you will want to stay there,” the priest told us during a pilgrimage trip in August 2019. And he was right. I would say that Murom is under the protection of the holy spouses Peter and Fevronia. The memory of these saints who lived at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries is honored here. On the square in front of the neighboring Annunciation Monastery there is a monument to Peter and Fevronia, and in the Holy Trinity Convent their relics rest. We were told a touching story about their love and loyalty. According to legend, they loved each other so much that they wanted to die on the same day and hour. And so it happened. They spent the end of their lives in different monasteries - Peter in the Blagoveshchensky men's monastery, and Fevronia in the Trinity women's monastery - and they should have been buried separately, but they miraculously ended up together. Since then, they have been revered as guardians of the family hearth. In the Trinity Monastery we venerated the relics of Peter and Fevronia and the Vilna Cross. I was also very impressed by the architecture of the Holy Trinity Cathedral. The style in which it was created is called Russian patterned. And the forged gilded crosses are a masterpiece of blacksmith work! How good they are - you can’t stop looking at them.

(Translated by Google) To be honest, I didn't like it inside. It so happened that we were there 2 times, once at the end of June, the 2nd time was a spontaneous visit, but we ended up on a family day holiday. So, when we visited the first time, there was a small renovation, the floors were painted, there was only a passage to the relics. At the entrance, on a bench, an attendant sat and gave everyone who came in such a look that they actually didn’t want to go in, but since we had already arrived, how could we not go in, we went in... the only light was from the windows, and only while we were walking along this small corridor , where the relics lay there was darkness. The relics are not decorated in any way, which is a pity. It's all very dark and frankly unpleasant. In general, we attributed the darkness in the temple, the lack of candles and everything else to renovations. (there was a box for the candles, and a note saying, put it here, then we’ll light it (it’s hard to believe, of course, and I’m more inclined to believe that these candles will then be taken back for sale). Having spontaneously found myself in Murom twice on a family day, how could I not go to The temple didn’t even light a candle. Moreover, this time my friend was with us, and she had also wanted to visit there for a long time. This time the monastery greeted us with a huge number of police. They blocked the entire road for the arrival of large guests. At the entrance they passed through a metal detector. And once inside, I understood why, with such beauty, I didn’t like it the first time. Yes, everything is beautiful, everything is great, BUT... there is no soul, the main thing. I really didn’t like the abbess, she was an imperious person, tough, and in her eyes there was only money, money and money (they stood nearby and heard the conversation and manner of communication. After standing in line and getting to the Temple to the relics, they realized that with the relics). On the 1st visit, nothing changed, the same darkness, the same box with a note to put candles here... They both came out with a strange feeling that yes, they could go look and take pictures of all this beauty, but they absolutely didn’t want to sit and collect everything put your thoughts in a “heap”, think and just relax (as, for example, in our nunnery, or in their monastery), there is no kind of calm and tranquility. I didn't find it there. And if we really compare between male and female, I will choose male. What is important to me is not the outer shell, but the inner state of calm. Another disadvantage, but it’s probably like everywhere else - beggars, not beggars, but gypsies. And not children, but completely healthy, normal women... But what we all liked about them (especially my husband) was the Refectory. Actually, when we got to Murom for the 2nd time, we stopped there to have a snack in the middle of the journey))) Located between the nunnery and monastery, the entrance is completely unremarkable from the outside, BUT once inside everything changes. it feels like being in a rustic log cabin, with large oak tables and benches. Stuffed birds hang in the corners (Original)

Heritage museum
Staryy Vladimir is home to a converted 1912 water tower that now serves as a museum and viewing platform. The red-brick tower houses a multistorey exhibit showcasing everyday objects from the city's history, including old clocks and stopwatches. Visitors can climb the curving staircase to reach the observation deck, which offers stunning 360-degree views of Vladimir, with the Klyazma River meandering into the distance and golden church domes dotting the landscape.
A very interesting museum with a great view from the top. It feels a bit overlooked by tourists, but is really worth the time since it really gives a detailed look into Vladimir's history through XIX to early XX centry.

The nineteenth century life of Vladimir is well depicted here. Models of shops like clocks, office, people working in the offices, house materials, are all exhibited here. One can understand the quality of life and the style of life are visible through this exhibits. This is an educational process that will shed light on the history of Vladimir. Anyone who visits Vladimir can visit this place if one is interested in the evolution of life in Vladimir.

They did not show the slightest interest in the visitors, did not say a word to help them become interested in the exhibition, and were clearly burdened by our presence. There is no toilet in the museum. There was not a single visitor except us. But the ministers insisted on masks. And about 20 minutes before closing they began to pack up and set off the alarm. Formally, no one is obliged to entertain guests. But if a city is developing a tourism business, its guests must be loved. Worth a day trip from Moscow. Medieval city castle (Kreml), architectural monument. + Unique is the urban development along the Kremlin wall. Very large parts of the historic wall no longer exist today. Between the towers that still exist today, small terraced houses have been built along the line of the wall - unique. + Interesting, open Kremlin + nice view of the Moskva River. + good tourist infrastructure. + traffic-free zones. Downtown along the main street. On the outskirts the river Moskva flows into the river Oka.

Kolomenskoye is a historic district located in the southeast of Moscow, Russia, that features a beautiful park and an impressive collection of historic buildings. The district's most famous attraction is the Kolomenskiy Kreml', a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the 16th century. Here are some pros and cons of visiting Kolomenskiy Kreml': Pros: Historic Significance: The Kolomenskiy Kreml' is a significant historical landmark that dates back to the reign of Ivan the Terrible. The buildings within the kremlin showcase a range of architectural styles, from medieval to traditional Russian. Beautiful Scenery: The park surrounding the Kolomenskiy Kreml' is stunning, with expansive green spaces, walking trails, and views of the Moskva River. Cultural Activities: The Kolomenskiy Kreml' is home to several museums and galleries, including the Church of the Ascension, which features beautiful frescoes, and the Wooden Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, which is a unique example of traditional Russian architecture. Peaceful Atmosphere: Despite its popularity as a tourist destination, the Kolomenskiy Kreml' and its surrounding park have a peaceful atmosphere that makes it a great place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Cons: Crowded: The Kolomenskiy Kreml' can get crowded, especially during peak tourist season, leading to long lines and wait times. Limited Access: Some of the buildings within the kremlin are off-limits to visitors, and you can only access them with a special tour or permission. Expensive: The entry fee to the Kolomenskiy Kreml' and its museums can be quite high, especially for foreign visitors. Overall, the Kolomenskiy Kreml' is a must-visit attraction in Moscow, Russia. With its historical significance, beautiful scenery, and cultural activities, it offers a unique glimpse into Russian history and culture. While the crowds and limited access can be a drawback, the experience of visiting the Kolomenskiy Kreml' is worth it.

(Translated by Google) We visited the Kolomna Kremlin, and overall we really liked it, with the exception of some nuances. Tickets were booked on the Kolomna Kremlin website, and a confirmation was received by email from the Liga Tour company indicating the time and date. The tour started at the appointed time, and our group consisted of more than 30 people, which, in my opinion, is a minus. The excursion lasted two hours and took place outside on the territory of the Kremlin, and also included a visit to the towers. On the street, the guide ruined the whole impression: she gave the tour in an hour, moving quickly and speaking quietly. She was not interested in the fact that elderly people and children did not have time to catch up with her, and she did not react in any way to requests to wait for the others or to turn the microphone louder. But the excursion to the Kremlin towers was simply magnificent - interesting and exciting. We were greeted by guides in themed costumes, and everything went in one breath. The guide spoke with humor, tried to pay attention to everyone, and invited older people to sit on a bench. At the end, everyone thanked the guide and even applauded.

St. Basil's Cathedral, also known as Pokrovsky Cathedral or The Cathedral of Intercession of the Virgin by the Moat, is a 16th-century former cathedral located in Red Square, Moscow. It now houses a museum of the church and is recognized for its multicolored domes that create a unique and vibrant appearance.
Visited St Basils Cathedral in March. It was our first visit to Russia, very much loved the country and the citizens. They were warm and helpful. Our first day was to Saint Basils Cathedral. How can one skip visiting one of Moscow’s most iconic landmarks? Before learning its true name, I used to think of it as the “Tetris building.” The kaleidoscopic exterior, crowned with its whimsical onion domes of irregular shapes, is truly mesmerizing. Inside, the chambers are adorned with centuries-old church icons. An absolute must-visit.

Visiting St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow was honestly a dream come true for me. I always imagined taking a photo standing right in front of this colourful and iconic cathedral, and finally being there in real life felt unreal. The moment I saw it with my own eyes, I got so excited because it looked exactly like the picture I had in my mind for so long. The cathedral is even more beautiful in person with its vibrant colours, unique onion domes, and detailed designs. It truly stands out in Red Square and feels like something from a fairytale. I walked around the area, took so many photos, and just enjoyed the view from every angle. It’s one of those places that gives you that “wow” feeling the moment you step close. For me, this was one of the most special moments of my trip, finally standing in front of the cathedral I always dreamed of. A must-visit when you’re in Moscow!

Its 16th-20th centuries interiors kept preserved. The vaults and walls of the cathedral was are richly decorated with murals, precious gifts of the royal family members are kept in the former sacristy. Wall paintings and church icons tells about the wonderful miracles of the Saint.

Natalie P — Google review
The history of GUM in Moscow began in the 19th century, when the Upper Trading Rows were located on the site of the current building. The first shops appeared here in the 17th century, but they were wooden, then a stone building appeared, but in about 70 years it also became outdated. In 1889-1893, the old rows were demolished, and in their place a new passage was built with imitation of forms of ancient Russian architecture and folk art, but at the same time modern materials and technologies were used. . The building received elements of Art Nouveau and a unique glass roof, which became one of its calling cards. At the end of the 19th century, it became fashionable to use elements reminiscent of towers, boyar chambers and church architecture of the 17th century: keeled arches, hipped roofs, patterned platbands, pipe columns, figured pediments, kokoshniks and striped masonry. However, unlike real Old Russian architecture, where the decor was an organic part of the structure, in the 19th and 20th centuries these elements were often imposed on modern buildings as decorative ones. Striking examples are the Historical Museum in Moscow and, of course, GUM, where these details are combined with huge glass arches and metal ceilings from the era of the Industrial Revolution. The shopping arcade quickly turned into a center of luxury - hundreds of shops, salons and restaurants operated here. After the revolution of 1917, trade was closed, and the building was used for warehouses and even for housing for officials. In 1921, by decree of Lenin, the State Department Store, or GUM, was opened here. In the 1930s, trade was temporarily stopped, and ministries were placed there. In 1953, the store reopened and became a symbol of Soviet trade - scarce goods, a grocery store and a cafe appeared here. In the 1990s, GUM was privatized and gradually turned into a premium shopping center with boutiques of world brands. Today, GUM is not only a store, but also a cultural space, and in the cafeteria No. 57 you can try dishes from the Soviet era, although in my personal opinion, they don’t really know how to cook them here. The building has become a super symbol of Moscow, combining history, trade and modernity. Its glass roofs, archaic-retro facades and three levels of passages make it a unique architectural monument.

Walking through Red Square is an experience that goes beyond simple sightseeing; it is truly where the grandeur of Russian history and architecture culminates. The moment you step in, you are struck by the imposing red walls of the Kremlin on one side and the colorful, onion-shaped domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral on the other. The cathedral’s architecture is so vibrant and whimsical that it looks like something out of a fairytale, making every angle a postcard-perfect shot. I highly recommend visiting both during the day and at night. In the daylight, the intricate details and colors are stunning, while at night, the illuminations of the GUM department store and surrounding buildings create a magical, lively atmosphere perfect for an evening stroll. The square is vast with historic cobblestones, which add to the charm, but I strongly suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes to fully enjoy the walk. Access via the metro is very easy, and although it’s usually busy, the sheer size of the square prevents it from feeling too crowded. Visiting the beating heart of Moscow is an absolute must.

The Moscow Kremlin, also known as The Kremlin, is a massive fortified complex located in the heart of Moscow. Originally built as the tsar's residence, it now serves as the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation. This historic site houses ancient churches used for royal ceremonies and various museums showcasing Russian state regalia and art. Visiting requires careful planning due to ticket logistics and entry requirements, but exploring over five centuries of history within its walls makes it all worthwhile.
A must visit place in Moscow having rich history and architectural value. It was great from outside as well but we took an inside tour as well. Inside there very many beautiful churches even dating back to 13th century. The churches have beautiful hand painted art on its walls and roof.
Zafar K — Google review
Beautiful place with a rich history, energized atmosphere, and incredible architecture. Highly recommend the tour of the inside of the Kremlin, where you can visit cathedrals dating back to the 13th century. Great place to be anytime during the day, but especially at night! (I would also advise making a stop at the eternal flame, which honors the loss of soldiers' lives in WWII).

A place full of history, the churches, and gardens are well worth the visit. Its impressive how this place is so well maintained. You can see the cannons left behind by Napoleon. You can also see iconic buildings from Russia's history although the tourist can really only see them from the outside, yet its still very worthwhile.

Fantastic experience. We took the opportunity to take a cruise excursion into Moscow on high speed train. We had the most wonderful tour guide who had a great head of knowledge. It was a long day but so worth the money for the trip. Loved every minute of it. Would recommend the trip.

Amazing, a must see place. Have a tour that takes in the Cathedrals and the Treasury museum, spectacular. Finish it off by visiting Red Square in the evening, with everything lit up. Update Sep 2023 - that review didn't age very well!! 😲 Maybe we can revisit in about 20 years....

The State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. Established in 1856 by Pavel Tretyakov, it started as a private collection and has now grown to over 180,000 pieces of Russian art. The gallery showcases the evolution of Russian art from medieval religious icons to contemporary works. It houses iconic pieces by renowned Russian artists such as Ivan Aivazovsky, Ilya Repin, and Viktor Vasnetsov.
Rainy day is a perfect day for art. This gallery is a place for inspiration for all art lovers. It’s vast and better plan spending 4-5 hours there. I took audio guide and was lost in time. Love it.

The Tretyakov Gallery is a true cultural treasure — a place where you can walk through centuries of Russian art under one roof. From iconic works by Repin and Vasnetsov to ancient icons and bold modernism, it’s a journey through the soul of the country. Well-organized, with calm halls and powerful energy. ➕ Unmatched collection of Russian art Beautiful building and well-curated exhibitions Easy to navigate and not overly crowded on weekdays Audio guides and descriptions in English available
Kristina T — Google review
Kramskoy, Vasnetsov, Serov, Repin, Savitsky—to name only a few—are represented in the Tretyakov Gallery, which offers an overwhelming feast for the eyes of art lovers. The museum displays countless masterpieces I had only read about: The Unknown Woman (often called the Russian Mona Lisa), Morning in a Pine Forest (Alenka chocolate wrappers), Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan, and a striking portrait of Pushkin, among others. After just 40 minutes, my mind was flooded with a surge of impressions and information. With 62 rooms to explore, this is clearly not a one-day museum. The entrance fee of 700 rubles is a bargain.
Kye — Google review
Very disappointing experience at the Tretyakov Gallery I visited the Tretyakov Gallery on September 25 and had a very disappointing experience. The website, the online tickets, and even the entrance signs all clearly stated that the museum would close at 9 PM. However, at 7:30 PM everyone was suddenly told to leave because of a private event — something that had never been announced anywhere. No one, not even the security staff, seemed to know about this early closure. The situation was handled poorly, and some staff were rude and unhelpful. It was also surprising that no one at the information desk spoke English in such a major international museum. Because of this, I had to completely change my travel plans and return the next day, buying new tickets and audioguides. Unfortunately, one of the main reasons for my visit — the famous Girl with Peaches — was not on display that day. Although I later received a refund for the first day’s tickets, the gallery’s response ignored the other issues I raised and fell far below my expectations.

Art museums can sometimes feel overwhelming, filled with endless hallways and masterpieces you're not sure how to appreciate. But the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow was different. Stepping inside felt like stepping into a warm embrace of Russian art history. Maybe it was the way the chronological layout unfolded Russia's artistic journey, or perhaps the sheer passion for Russian culture that resonated from every canvas. One of the things that surprised me most was the sheer diversity of styles on display. From the deeply religious icon paintings of the early days to the bold strokes of the avant-garde, the Tretyakov Gallery showcased the evolution of Russian art in a way I hadn't seen before. But it wasn't just about the artistic movements. Certain paintings jumped out at me, leaving a lasting impression. The Appearance of Christ by Alexander Ivanov was the one of the iconic piece of the museum. The Tretyakov Gallery wasn't just a museum; it felt like a conversation with the soul of Russia. It allowed me to understand the country's history, culture, and emotions through the eyes of its greatest artists.

A very big gallery with great artwork (if you're a fan of it). You need at least a couple of hours to see all of it. The ticket is 500 rubbles for adults. But I'd recommend the Shimov gallery. Much more impressive.
Vasilis K — Google review
The State Tretyakov Gallery is a remarkable art museum that boasts an impressive collection of over 180,000 Russian works spanning multiple centuries. My first visit to this iconic institution was nothing short of inspiring. As a philatelist, I was already familiar with many of the paintings displayed here, having collected numerous stamps featuring artworks from the gallery. This connection made my experience even more special, as I was able to see these masterpieces in person for the first time. The gallery's layout is thoughtfully designed, allowing visitors to journey through the evolution of Russian art. From the early icons to the bold works of the 20th century, each piece tells a story and reflects the rich cultural heritage of Russia. I found myself captivated by the detailed brushwork and the emotions captured in each painting. The names of the artists, such as Ilya Repin and Ivan Shishkin, were not just words to me; they represented a deep-seated appreciation cultivated during my studies in art history at a young age. Moreover, the atmosphere of the gallery is steeped in history, which adds to its charm. Walking through the halls, I felt a profound connection to the past, as if the spirits of the artists lingered in the air. This gallery is not merely a collection of paintings; it is a testament to the creativity and resilience of the Russian people. In conclusion, my visit to The State Tretyakov Gallery was a deeply enriching experience that inspired me both as an art enthusiast and a collector. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking to understand the essence of Russian art and culture.

Public Museum of the Moscow Metro

The Public Museum of the Moscow Metro offers a unique opportunity to explore the history and artistry of the city's underground transportation system. Serving as both a mode of transit and an underground museum, each station boasts distinct designs and artwork, making it a fascinating experience for art enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Since its opening in 1935 as the first underground railway system in the former Soviet Union, visitors can immerse themselves in the ambiance of a bygone era.
The Metro museum was not too easy to find, or at least not for me. On Google maps it looks like it is in the first floor of the Afimall City mall, but it’s not. It is under the mall right above the Vystanochnaya Metro stop. If you get off the metro at this stop, just look up and you will see a walkway on the upper floor. Make your way up there and you will see the entry to the museum. The Moscow Metro museum is not too bad for free. It has some interesting displays, but I was hoping for more information and pictures on how the tunnels were constructed. All-in-all, it is a good place to visit. Plan on about an hour here.

A very informative museum on how the railway was built in 1931. The museum guide speaks only Russian. Interactive - how to drive a train. Photo taking. The different type of train n equipment of different era.

This museum is not at the address informed for three years now!! The correct address is at Vystavochnaya station. This needs to be corrected. It is a nice space, only in Russian.
Alexandre Z — Google review
This is the wrong address and it’s very hard to find this museum. To make a long story short, you need to follow the signs to Vystavochnaya (выставочная) metro station. Right before the gates, you’ll see the museum. If you still can’t find it, show locals this photo and ask them for directions.
Shay A — Google review
As others have explained and we sadly did not read about until to late, it would have saved us an hour in searching, the museum is in the Metro. Good place to see although very limited displays due to not having any space. Recommended on the way it has been created. Very informal and everything is in Russian. Dr Google gets a fail here in directions.

The Tserkov' Znameniya Presvyatoy Bogoroditsy V Dubrovitsakh is a well-known Russian Orthodox church that was built in 1704 with a baroque style and made of white-stone. The church is adorned with intricate carvings and is located about an hour's drive south of Moscow, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. It has become a favorite among visitors for its beautiful scenery and stunning architecture.
Knowing about Голицынs' Baltic/proWestern roots/connection helps to explain a) heavy-duty Baroque style of the Cathedral, b) the 'Gallitzin' settlement/tunnel in Alleghenies, etc.

The ancient Znamenskaya Church in the Russian Baroque style will not leave anyone indifferent. It is an amazing monument of architectural architecture; it is called the pearl of the Moscow region. Unusual, mysterious, this is one of the most beautiful churches in Russia, with a gilded crown instead of a dome. The church in the ancient estate of Dubrovitsy, in which Prince Boris Golitsyn lived, was built at his expense in the 17th-18th centuries. The prince, who served as the tutor of the future sovereign Peter the Great, fell into disgrace with him and left for his estate. However, Peter soon cooled down, and as a sign of reconciliation, the prince, at his own expense, began the construction of an unusual church on the territory of his own estate. In 1704, construction was completed, and Peter the Great himself arrived at the consecration ceremony of the temple, standing and praying on a special balcony of the western ledge. This unique monument of Russian architecture is included in the list of world art treasures.

The Savvino-Storozhevskiy Monastery is a significant Russian Orthodox religious site boasting an impressive architectural design and featuring 15th-century altar frescoes. It is a popular destination for tourists visiting Moscow, but it's best to avoid weekends and church holidays to avoid large crowds. Visitors may have the opportunity to view the stunning panorama from the bell tower with permission from a monk.
Great place to spend at least half a day while visiting Zvenigorod. Beautiful scenery, history linked monastery, plenty of exhibition places, nice stylish canteen. Strongly recommend.
Ivan Y — Google review
On one of the most famous and largest streets in Moscow, the courtyard of the Zvenigorod Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery is hidden, built in a pseudo-Russian style with elements of modern and baroque. Previously, when walking in the center, it was hard not to notice one of the main decorations of Tverskaya, but in 1939 it was hidden from view. An interesting story is connected with its movement: the building, which weighed 24 tons, was moved deeper into the quarter at night - rails were laid under the foundation and smoothly transported to a new location. At the same time, the residents were not relocated and were not even specially warned. It is said that many of them discovered the change only in the morning, looking out of the window, and must have been very surprised at the unexpected move.
Santosh D — Google review
A must-see place for any tourist traveling around Moscow. But do not come here on weekends and church holidays, for crowds will ruin one's experience. If you are lucky, a monk may allow you to come up the bell tower. The view is magnificent. The sound is deafening.

Monastery is ok, but you will find inside the walls a pearl, a bakery shop and a café with amazing pastry, cakes, chocolates, 100% handmade and fresh. Very tasty everything. Queue of ppl to buy bread, etc... But it's worth to do it. It's cheap. Shop and café (you can eat everything you can buy in shop here) has amazing decoration, medieval style. Café is located upstairs, just in one of the towers and a door brings you directly to the walls... really beautiful place to eat/drink/rest.
Albert P — Google review
The place is well-suited both for pilgrims and for tourists. They even have free wi-fi, special app for visitors available for iOS and Android as well, and the food is dietetical and tasty at the same time. As for the architecture, there are several buildings highly valuable from the historical and the aesthetical point of view. To cut the story short, just come and see it for yourself.

Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, also known as the Lavra, is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed Orthodox Christian monastery complex in Kyiv. It features ornate religious buildings such as the Dormition Church, refectory, and bell tower. One of its main attractions is the network of underground catacombs where mummified remains of former monks are laid to rest.
As one of the seven wonders of Ukraine, this monastery is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Saint Sophia Cathedral. Situated in Kiev, it is a monastic complex famed for its buried monks, spiritual atmosphere, and unique underground caves. Make sure you go up the stairs to enjoy a nice view over the city and panoramic view on the church from the towers.

A lot can be said about this place, but it is better to come and see everything yourself. It is difficult for me to imagine where else in the world there are so many historical buildings, caves, museums, icons in one territory. And indeed the place that is full of history. Just go to the free part, if you like it, you can come on Sunday and get into the "museum" part for free too.
Kir V — Google review
Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, also known as the Kyiv Monastery of the Caves, is one of Ukraine's most revered religious and cultural landmarks. Perched on the picturesque hills overlooking the Dnipro River in the Pechersk district of Kyiv, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a stunning example of Eastern Orthodox monastic architecture and a place of profound spiritual significance. Founded in 1051 by St. Anthony of Kyiv, the Lavra began as a humble cave monastery and grew into a vast complex of churches, bell towers, and subterranean catacombs. The history of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is deeply intertwined with the spread of Christianity in the region, serving as a spiritual center for Eastern Orthodoxy and a cradle of monasticism in Kievan Rus. Over the centuries, it has been a focal point of religious life, attracting pilgrims from across the Orthodox world. The architectural beauty of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is breathtaking. The complex is dominated by the Great Lavra Belltower, which soars to a height of 96.5 meters, making it one of the tallest bell towers in the world. The golden domes of the Dormition Cathedral, which was rebuilt after being destroyed during World War II, gleam in the sunlight, creating a striking contrast against the blue skies of Kyiv. The interior of the churches is adorned with exquisite frescoes, mosaics, and icons, reflecting the rich artistic tradition of the Orthodox Church. Beneath the Lavra's surface lies a network of catacombs, where the mummified remains of saints, monks, and notable figures from Ukrainian history are interred. These underground passages are a place of pilgrimage, with visitors coming to venerate the relics and experience the serene, otherworldly atmosphere of the caves. Culturally, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is a symbol of Ukraine's religious heritage and national identity. It has played a crucial role in the preservation and dissemination of Orthodox Christian traditions, theological scholarship, and religious art. The Lavra continues to be an active monastery, home to a community of monks who maintain the centuries-old spiritual practices that have been passed down through generations. In addition to its religious significance, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is a cultural treasure, hosting museums that display priceless artifacts, manuscripts, and religious objects. The site is not only a place of worship but also a center of learning, art, and history, embodying the spiritual and cultural legacy of Ukraine.

One of these places can really be considered a historical heritage of Kyiv. Low-rise buildings that intersect with modern life. Maybe it would have been better to save - sure, but it doesn't make sense to sthink how it could be, we have to save what we have for now! Glory to Ukraine.

Includes more than 200 types of roases, inumerous species of shrubs, trees and other plants, statues of greek gods and philosophers, drinkable water fountains, and great views! Expect to be there exploring for at least 3 hours to get to know the main spots, as it's a really big park. Definetly coming back there once I have another opportunity.

Well kept park with garden art and on lake activities. UNESCO world heritage site!

Great park. Get a map to make sure you see everything. Good for 4-6 hours especially if you rent boats or bring a picnic. The underground river boat ride was nice.

Historical Arboretum with more than 2000 local and exotic plants. Fair entrance fee (100 UAH for adults, so ca. 3€). Really worth to visit!

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Potemkin Stairs is a famous landmark in Odessa, known for its appearance in the silent film Battleship Potemkin. Built in the 19th century, this formal entrance to the city from the sea consists of 192 steps that create an illusion of greater length. From below, only the steps are visible, while from above, only the landings can be seen.
An evocative place to visit for fans of the "Battleship Potemkin" movie. Few tourists in these difficult times, although there is an occasional little red 'tourist train' passing. A nice view down to the port and the Black Sea beyond. In May 2024 the funicular wasn't working
Stephen P — Google review
It’s not so hard to accomplish that, guys! Especially when you’re hungry and you know that upstairs is food 😂 But, honestly, beautiful place with a nice view of the Sea Port and the sea itself. In the square up there are colorful buildings and nice historical monuments. And a bunch of cool restaurants and bars! 😉
Kristina Z — Google review
One of the important places you must see in Odessa, don’t forget walking near forest, it is also near sea side, harbour, check around and take more pics, it is really suggested to visit. And there is a funicular train near stairs who doesn’t want to climb.
Emre D — Google review
Newly remodeled stairs are great! The area surrounding the stairs is a new park with lots of benches and sites to see. Pleasant experience for sure. There is also a children's playground that's clean and new!
Bill G — Google review
I love Potemkin Stairs day and night always busy always there is music or activities. Nice views one side you can see the sea other side nice city view. If you are in Central Odessa must go and see the stairs.
Zerya D — Google review
Definitely one of the must see places in Odessa! The sheer size of these monumental steps is amazing! And after the recent renovation they look even more beautiful. Also surrounded by new parks, right by the city center and also right by the Port. Perfect place to be!
Patrick B — Google review
A compulsory place to visit in Odessa. The most recognizable and at the same time one of the most crowded places. Personally, I thought they will be bigger and most impressive. But anyway the way upstairs is tiring. Beautiful view at the harbor. The stairs- a bit messy. I recommand to take the picture of them from the other side- there's a platform in the harbor.

Very scenic. Also very helpful information centre here that speaks good English. Walk down the stairs and catch the Funicular back up.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant theater and performance arts scene, enjoying evening performances or avant-garde plays at smaller independent theaters. The nightlife in Odessa is diverse and dynamic, offering something for everyone, from music enthusiasts to those looking to soak in local culture.
Beautiful opera house, inside and out. I ended up attending a small local performance that wasn't even in the main part, but held in the outer walkway which was interesting.

This place is just majestic. Absolutely beautiful and astounding work of architecture. The surrounding location and water fountain are also magnificent. I saw Carmen and the tickets were extremely affordable for the masterful performance. This was my first Opera viewing and it was absolutely delightful. I felt very dapper for that evening. This is a must-see in Odessa and I urge you to see an opera while you visit, the acoustics and seating were phenomenal. I would do this again as a first-time goer to the Opera.

Spectacular architecture with very nice outside settings not far from the beach. I visited it in October 2022, and finally, watched Opera Turandot in March 2025. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Worthy of 5 stars. It’s a beautiful opera house. Very accessible. Decent prices. Relaxed atmosphere. I saw Madame Butterfly. Surprised me how few people dress up here. Appreciative audience. Very good singers

My wife and I were there watching the opera Carmen. We had the pleasure of sitting in a box. An incredible atmosphere, an architecturally very interesting building. In the breaks between the files you can have a good look at the inside of the opera and take photos. The staff were very helpful in finding the right place.
Carsten V — Google review
Took a guided tour but unfortunately it was in Russian and not in English. However, I still enjoyed the tour because of the fascinating interior architecture designs of the theatre. Was built in the 1800s making it one of the oldest opera theatres in the world and it is the most famous landmark of Odessa that you definitely want to visit. The Swan Lake was being preformed in the theatre when I was in Odessa but unfortunately tickets were sold out!

Derybasivska Street, located in the heart of Odessa, is a popular pedestrian route that stretches for about a kilometer. Lined with trees and historical landmarks, this bustling street is home to various shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll during the evening or at night when the area comes alive with the glow of lights from establishments.
One of the best areas in Odessa to go shopping, find a great restaurant, bar, coffee shop or just stroll around endlessly... Unfortunately the restaurant we visited is no longer open. We really had a great time there and the Ukrainian traditional food is really tasty... Be prepared to put on some extra weight with all the wonderful dishes...

Bilhorod-Dnister fortress

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Bilhorod-Dnister fortress is a 14th-century waterfront ruin that offers picturesque views and group tours. While it could use some reconstruction, the fortress is still in relatively good shape. Visitors can easily drive and park there, with various activities available such as shooting a bow and exploring small cafes and gift shops in the central courtyard. Families can spend hours walking around, enjoying the historical attractions dating back to Roman times.
Incredible place to explore and spend a few hours walking around. Lots of activities for families and interesting history. I would highly recommend a day trip to the castle and surrounding area if you are in Odessa. A++
Travis B — Google review
Old and large fortress still in relatively good shape but could use some reconstruction. A tour is not required as you can drive and park there easily yourself, just be mindful that with heavy traffic it can be a 1.5h-2h drive from Odessa In the summer The central courtyard of the fortress has some small cafe's and little gift shops. Activities like shooting a bow are also available.

2.5 hours journey by autobus from Odessa, we go through Moldova, but totally worth it. 80uah tickets for entry and inside there are lots of archeological and architectural wonders to see along with some medivial artifacts and also you can practice your hands at archery. There is gorgeous view of the Black sea from the Akkerman fortress, if you are here do not forget to go back till you reach another door and visit the sea directly. Must visit, I recommend this historic place !

Sights & Landmarks
Tighina Fortress, also known as Bender Fortress, is a well-preserved 16th-century Ottoman stronghold located in the Transnistrian region buffer zone. Constructed after Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent's conquest in 1538, it holds significant historical importance for medieval and Renaissance Moldova. The fortress served as a refuge for Sweden's King Charles XII following his defeat at the Battle of Poltova in 1709.
Nice fortress and surrounding area. The area is surprisingly well maintained due to EU funding. The lack of information material inside the castle was compensated by our awesome guide. The museums inside are worth a visit and the towers can be climbed as well.

A very well preserved fortress .. you can walk along the defenses, climb the tower or visit the few small museums there ... its a very pleasant experience... there is a small souvenir shop where you can grab some fridge magnets and bits and pieces. Staff are friendly and helpful.. Great experience

Nice place to visit Bender Fortress is an interesting place to see in Transnistria 🤩 This 16th-century Turkish fortress on the right bank of the Dniester River. It is the oldest monument within Transnistria and one of the symbols of this unrecognized country. It no longer serves the military purposes it once did and is open to tourists in its entirety. We explore the fortress, towers, thematic exhibitions, and torture chambers. Next to the fortress is a beautiful Orthodox church, a walking area, and a hotel with a restaurant. Tickets to the fortress cost 50 rubles. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit
Monika K — Google review

Tighina Fortress is an absolute must-visit for anyone exploring the region. The moment you step inside, you’re surrounded by thick stone walls, towering bastions, and centuries of history echoing through the courtyards. It’s incredibly well-preserved, and the views from the fortress walls are stunning. There’s even a small museum inside with cool artifacts and exhibits. You can almost hear the clashing swords and cannon fire from long ago! A powerful, atmospheric place that takes you back in time. Highly recommend it for history lovers, photographers, or anyone who just wants to feel like a medieval warrior for the afternoon!
Athens C — Google review
This historical site, built in the 16th century and restored, charges an admission fee of 5 Dniester roubles. Originally constructed in 1538 by Sultan Suleiman the Great, the fortress has a rich history. It now features extensive redevelopment, including a restaurant, spa, hotel, church, weapons museum, amusement park, and children's rides. The site serves as a large park with various attractions, making it popular, especially on weekends. During my visit on a weekday, the information center was closed, so the advertised free Wi-Fi was not available. # Bender

The Casino of Constanța is a historic Art Nouveau-style villa located along a seafront promenade. Built in 1909, it was initially intended to reflect Romanian architectural traditions but underwent a change in design by a French architect, resulting in its Art Nouveau style. Over the years, the casino served various purposes including as a theater, ballroom, leisure spot, and even as a hospital during World War I.
Such an amazing location and historical place to visit, highly recommend it, we had an amazing time and had a family group of varied ages from 7 to 50+ years, we all found different interesting exhibits and sections. The renovation is breathtaking and we managed to visit in a sunnier day in September and the light flowing through the stained glass windows was beautiful. We loved the interactive exhibits and that it wasn't very crowded being in extra season.

I love this place. It was my favourite place to visit even before its restoration. I loved to go down the stairs and listen to the sound of water. Now, that was brought back “to life” I come with more pleasure than before. Even though the stairs are no longer open for public. The entrance is a bit expensive - 53 ron, but to keep this gem in good condition I think worth the price. When I entered I was speechless. The casino itself is a work of art. The warm colors of the walls are giving a very welcoming feeling. The overall experience was very pleasant and I am happy I visited.
Andreea D — Google review
This is one of the most beautiful Art Nuveau buildings in Europe that has been recently renovated and is now open to the public. The architecture and interior design is breathtakingly beautiful with all original details restored to perfection. The building is situated in a lovely spot with great vista over the Black Sea and plenty of walking and dining choices alongside the promenade. The entry is best done online where you can book a timeslot and helps with planning your visit particularly during busy holiday periods but walk in tickets are available too.

Constanța Casino – A Must-See Landmark The Constanța Casino is absolutely stunning! Perched right on the Black Sea, it offers breathtaking views and a fascinating glimpse into Romania’s history. Even though the building is currently being restored, its Art Nouveau architecture and elegant details are unforgettable. Walking along the seafront promenade and seeing the waves crash beside this iconic monument is a magical experience. Whether you’re into photography, history, or simply love beautiful scenery, the Constanța Casino is a must-visit when exploring the city.
Bou B — Google review
An absolute must see for anyone in the region. A breathtaking architectural, acoustic, visual and educative experience. The exhibitions inside were a great plus. Highly recommended!
Calin A — Google review
The Casino of Constanța is one of the most iconic landmarks on the Romanian seaside and absolutely worth a visit. The architecture is stunning — a true Art Nouveau jewel perched right on the Black Sea promenade. The views are spectacular at any time of day, but especially at sunset when the building glows in golden light and the waves crash against the rocks below. Inside, you can feel the history of the place. After many years of decay, the restoration finally brought back its charm, with stained glass, ornate details, and elegant halls. There are also exhibitions and multimedia installations that tell the story of the Casino and Constanța’s past, which makes the visit both cultural and emotional. That said, not everything is perfect yet. Some areas remain closed, and at times the schedule feels limited. The entrance fee can feel a bit high compared to how much of the building you can actually explore. Around the promenade there are still fences and signs of ongoing work. Overall though, this place is the symbol of Constanța. Even if you only admire it from outside, it’s unforgettable. The combination of architecture, sea views, and history make it a must-see. Come with the right expectations — this is no longer a gambling casino, but a beautifully restored cultural landmark that tells its own dramatic story.
Dani V — Google review
I visited the casino yesterday, on a weekday. It wasn't very crowded. It's worth every penny, it's been beautifully renovated. I was amazed by its beauty. What should be considered though would be a security check at the entrance, as is the case in every tourist attraction outside the country.

The Constanța Casino is a stunning Art Nouveau building with a rich history, situated on the Black Sea coast in Romania. I recently visited the Constanța Casino, and I was blown away by its intricate details and historical significance. This iconic building has been beautifully restored to its former glory, showcasing its stunning Art Nouveau design. Although it's not operational as a casino, the building still offers a glimpse into its glorious past. The Constanța Casino is a truly unique and unforgettable experience. Whether you're an architecture buff, history enthusiast, or simply looking for a fascinating spot to explore, this casino is a must-visit destination.

Relax Beach Mamaia is a spacious and beautiful fine-sand beach in Constanta, Romania. It stretches over 8 km long and 100-200 m in width, offering various amenities such as eateries, lounge chairs, umbrellas, exchange booths, and showers. The entry into the water is smooth without stones or shells. This popular Black Sea resort also features numerous hotels, clubs, and water sports facilities.
New beach extension added more places to relax and enjoy Black Sea water, waves and sand. Mamaia beach is crossed by Telegondola and near to amusement park.
Manea I — Google review
The beach is not sandy, it's full of shells, so it's the best to wear water shoes or flip flops. There were small medusas and bugs in the water close to the shore. On a weekday of the first week of July, there were hardly any people. You can pay 30 Lei for an umbrella and a bed, but be prepared, because the sellers hardly speak English. I even got a comment from one of them, that if you are in Romania, speak Romanian. So basically he says "I'm too lazy to learn a world language so learn my useless-for-future-life and uncommon language for these 7 days". The beach is too far away from the food sellers and from the toilet, that's definitely a negative point. Half an hour before 1 pm there was only one kebap place open, all restaurant were closed. The kebap was good and sellers spoke English, luckily. Mamaia got full of life after 5 pm. Anyway the beach was okay but definitely not the best, you need to compromise a lot.
Edit K — Google review
Mamaia was one of the best beaches I have been, but now I am disappointed. The sand is practically not existent. A lot of shells that are cutting your feet. Multiple of private beaches along the coast. The water is not dirty, quite clear and represents the reason for the 2 stars. The prices for products are up to the sky, if you want to go to a restaurant prepare yourself to spend a fortune.

Shitiest beches I ever seen are in Romania. Not only this beach particulary, but all beaches with no exclusions. Quite dirty, instead of sand you will find sort of dust with shells and stones. Prices high, service low quality... For beaching go somewhere else in no case Romania...
Denys — Google review
Dirty beach, questionable water quality, where are the damn toilets I’m guessing most people are probably pissing in the water. Litter everywhere in the form of bottle caps, cans and cigarette butts. Super overpriced chez long compared to a Greek beach. Everyone looks like they’ve stepped out of a Martin Parr photograph. Totally recommend if you like Blackpool and Butlins.

My recent escape to Relax Beach in Mamaia unveiled a serene coastal haven that perfectly balanced relaxation and entertainment. Nestled along the picturesque shoreline, this medium-level beach destination offered a respite from the daily hustle and bustle, allowing me to unwind and recharge while enjoying the beauty of the Black Sea.

i definitely don't recommend it instead of sand a lot of broken shells, which is very uncomfortable The beach is not cleaned of rubbish in additions a lot of beer lids and cigarette butts
