The History Museum of the city of Irkutsk them. AM Sibiryakova is a treasure trove for anyone eager to delve into the rich tapestry of Siberian history. Established in 1782, it proudly holds the title of the oldest museum in Siberia and serves as a gateway to understanding the region's past.
It's a good Museum, the staff is super friendly and patiently explains stuff. They really give you a good insight into the early life in Russia. They have a lot of things from that bygone era .The only issue that i found was everything is in russian and the staff doesn't really know English either. I can't explicitly blame then for it because having lived there not many people speak in English. But if you know a bit of russian and want to kill sometime learning I'd recommend it

(Translated by Google) The museum is for those who are not familiar with the history of the city or know it superficially. I wasn’t bored, since I was talking with the curator almost the entire time of the inspection, but... The materials and exhibits that were presented there were clearly not enough for me. In almost every room I would like to add something, correct something. I liked the models of temples, churches, the Ascension Monastery, the panoramas of the fort are excellent. Of the original exhibits, of which there are very few, I liked a lady’s dress from the early 20th century; I was surprised by the ID of the railway worker’s wife; a hundred-year-old ophthalmologist’s suitcase, as if it had just been brought from the ophthalmologist’s office😂; schoolgirl's lunchbox; ladies' cane for straightening skirts. The general impression, like last time, is that the museum is relatively young and the museum luminaries have given here everything that is worthless to them.
Google review
(Translated by Google) They try very hard, but it’s somehow uninteresting. The guides don’t really know anything, only their program. And the program is very meager; the entire chain of events of historical moments is not traced. Yes, there is an exhibition of ancient artifacts, yes, then the Buryats suddenly appeared (in clothes of the 19th-20th century), and then the prison, then Bering, then the 19th century. But it is not clear when there was a fire, when the Buryats began to live, where they came from here, who these ancient people were, when the Glazov coast developed, and in general how the city districts were formed, by whom and when the architectural monuments were built. It seems like there is a piece of this, a piece of that... But the overall picture doesn’t add up. Now, if I don’t know the history of the city at all, then from a visit to the city history museum (!), I probably won’t learn anything except the founding date (169th year - what, from what date, what is this number), that some people have been here not very famous, and it is unknown when and what events took place during their visits, I do not learn anything about the fire, about the researchers of Lake Baikal, the North, the builders of the Circum-Baikal Railway, or about their significance in the life of the city. Well, it’s not enough. Komon. What if I want to know more? The museum seems to give the answer: look, we have branches, but what to see in these branches? I don’t know if they would even hang a portrait of Ya. Pokhabov, even if it was an imaginary one. Eh.

Nicely decorated Orthodox Church in a tranquil compound, away from traffic noice. Every ceiling and wall painted or mounted with carving. An active place of worship with an valuable relic in a glass case. Directions: take trolley bus number 3 from front of Irkutsk Art Museum on Lenin Street. Alight after the traffic circle, cross the street, and walk back towards the city center. After about 50 meters, look for a steel fence between a block of apartments and a modern glass building. Just after the fence, turn right and walk towards the river. You can cut through the apartments to get to the Nunnery.

(Translated by Google) An unambiguous historical attraction of a regional scale: in addition to the charming Church of the Sign, the curious will find in the monastery the burial places of famous people: the navigator Shelikhov, the Russian writer Valentin Rasputin and the Decembrists who died in Siberian exile. In the park in front of the monastery there is a monument to Admiral Kolchak. Minus: do not try to get here on foot from the Angara embankment. Due to the lack of crossings, you will have to risk your life and cross a very busy highway! Be careful and use the bus or taxi! Pamyatnik Admiralu Kolchaku, located at the intersection of Karl Marx and Lenin streets, is the former headquarters of Admiral Kolchak's counter-revolutionary army during the civil war. This monument is a significant historical site associated with Admiral Kolchak, who led the White Army in an effort to protect Tsarist Russia.
(Translated by Google) A picturesque place. The only monument to Kolchak in Russia for sure.... Nearby there is a beautiful temple. One caveat.... it’s quite difficult to get to it on foot... there are no pedestrian crossings through the roundabout. The traffic is very intense. Recommendation for those walking along the embankment to cross the suspension bridge at shopping centers and on the right side, go around the roundabout or hire a taxi. (Original) Живописное место. From a historical point of view, the memory of this place is undeniable. Disadvantages: it is not easy to get here (especially in winter), and there is a boat station and enclosures with guard dogs nearby, who will be happy to bark at you all the way there and back, and at the cross itself. PS. and why do they always forget that Pepelyaev was shot along with Kolchak? The museum features two halls and a staircase adorned with creatively designed panels made from candy wrappers. Tiny Museum about the historic tea trade from Asia to Irkutsk & Moscow situated upstairs from the Tourist Information Office. Some interesting historic artifacts. All of it in Russian though. The nice lady there did her best to explain some of the things on display in very limited English. A bit like the "Museum of City History that is the building across from the tourist office it's probably not worth a specific visit but if you're passing by or visiting the tourist office it's worth a quick look.

The House Museum of Prince Sergey Volkonsky in Irkutsk offers a glimpse into the life of the exiled Decembrist prince and his wife, Maria. Visitors can explore the family dining room, original staircases, drawing room, and an exhibition room with portraits of Maria and other Decembrist wives. The museum also hosts musical performances that recreate the social life experienced by the exiled Decembrists and their wives.

Siberian history and champagne Went there for a tour for Siberian history on exiles and their wives. Wasn't really too interested. When the performers were singing opera, I wasn't too interested too, then they popped the champagne and we found that many people on our tour were quite old and didn't want to drink it. So the few younger people on the tour all had a few refreshing glasses! Yippee.

This museum ist just about fashion of the Dekabrists time and about the noble Volkonskiy family. Absolutly no information about the Dekabrist movement, their ideas and goals, no political information at all. So if you want to know about the banned nobles in Sibiria and the privileged life and the good things they did for the region, it might be a good museum. But a comparison to the banned poorer people and any political information are missing. There is also hardly anything in English, as in most Russian museums. But even in Russian, the explanations are very old fashioned, as far as I could understand them. This is history as it was thought in the 1st half of last century.

History Museums
The Irkutskiy Oblastnoy Istoriko-Memorial'nyy Muzey Dekabristov, located in the ancient city of Irkutsk, is a small yet comprehensive museum that offers a glimpse into the lives of the Decembrists. Housed in an 18th-century Archangel Michael log church, this museum showcases items and appliances used by the nobles who were exiled from the capital to Siberia.
Brilliant Museum telling the story of the history of the Decembrist movement in Russia. It is made up with the rubetskoy House-Museum and the Volkonsky House-Museum12. From my research the Trubetskoy House-Museum is situated in the former home of Prince Sergey Petrovich Trubetskoy, and showcases personal belongings, documents, and artifacts. The Volkonsky House-Museum is in the former residence of Prince Sergey Grigorievich Volkonsky and offers a glimpse into the life of the Volkonsky family and their contributions to the Decembrist movement. Both museums provide a rich historical context for the Decembrist movement something I had only the vaguest knowledge of. It is a must see.

(Translated by Google) Irkutsk, the ancient city representing Siberia, cannot be discussed without mentioning the Decembrists. At its center is the Decembrist Memorial. Young officers from Russian nobles who fought a war against Napoleon, who invaded Russia with an army of 600,000, and entered Paris in pursuit of the fleeing French army, experienced freedom and equality there, and returned through national awareness and led the abolition of serfdom. He attempted a revolution with the goal of establishing a constitutional monarchy or republic, but ultimately failed and was deprived of his noble status and was exiled to Siberia, where he spent more than 10 years of forced labor in the Nerchinsk mines. After being pardoned, you can see traces of his settlement and life in Irkutsk. You can also feel the tearful sorrow of the women who gave up their noble status and followed their husbands to Siberia, a penal colony. I think that the fact that Irkutsk today can be called the Paris of Siberia was possible because of the Decembrists and their wives who built schools, hospitals, theaters, etc. and had infinite love and devotion for farmers and native people. You can feel through the Decembrist Memorial that the city of Irkutsk is not simply a gateway to Lake Baikal.

Lisikhinskiy Park is a pleasant location for strolling and exercise, although it lacks sufficient amenities for children aged 3 to 4 years, such as sandboxes, a small slide, and a carousel. Additionally, the park could benefit from designated areas for biking, rollerblading, and scootering. My friend and I really enjoyed the excursion, we learned a lot of new things and are fans of herbal remedies and prevention)). Particularly memorable were the expositions of India, Persia, Russia, aromatic oils from all over the world, and of course the stand with the selection of auspicious stones and herbs according to the horoscope))). Thanks to the guide Tatyana the Mudra! We will definitely come back again! I tell my friends and acquaintances about the opening of the year! (Translated by Google) This is less of a museum and more of a specialized store selling herbal teas and extracts. It is not within walking distance; you need to take a long bus ride towards the airport. Therefore, if a person is specifically inclined towards a museum, he will be disappointed by the paucity of “exhibits”. But here you can buy different teas from the shores of Lake Baikal. I took it quickly and didn’t regret it. the guide gave a quick overview of the exhibits on display, answered questions, talked about herbs and plants, stones and other minerals. It was good and educational. In the end I bought various things for the house. From a piece of obsidian to a couple of varieties of tea from Baikal herbs. I liked it. The Ice-Breaker "Angara" Museum in Irkutsk is a tribute to the hero ship of Russia, known for its icebreaking work and Arctic exploration. Built in 1895, it was the first icebreaker on Lake Baikal, connecting the Trans-Siberian Railway. The museum also features the Sukachev estate with a permanent memorial and art exposition dedicated to Sukachev's life and work.
Really cool to see interior of the ship, you can basically explore all the machines. There is also a 7 minutes video that talks about ship history. Everythin is in Russian, but stuff is nice and kind.

An interesting museum in a great city. Look past the fact that this isn’t the richest museum and it isn’t the richest city and you’ll find a ship with a very interesting history presented in an interesting way. For the minimal fee you’ll see the engine room and a collection of black and white photos from the ship’s heyday, as well as the dark years before it was floated again and restored. Oh, and a very entertaining dubbed video replete with low budget re-enactments. In summer there’s a great coffee shop next door, and a waterski park. The views of the damn and the city skyline are great all year.

(Translated by Google) We went in the evening, when it was already dark, the illumination was impressive: the towers sparkle, almost all the slides and ice sculptures are illuminated 🤩 But, if you have a gentle, unsportsmanlike, but ambitious child, you most likely will not like it - the slides are very steep, it’s scary to slide down for the first time even for an adult! For this reason, our evening was completely ruined - the whole evening my daughter whined that she wanted to go for a ride, but because of fear she couldn’t, that we had come in vain, she didn’t like everything. In the end, she decided to slide down with me, but she was SO scared that then she became hysterical. I didn’t persuade, I explained that this was normal, that you were scared, I would have been one hundred percent at your age. I didn’t go, but the roller coaster beckoned, it was clear that this was the main action. In short, we were exhausted))))))) The problem with the Crystal Tale is the lack of an intermediate version of the slide... there are only very cool ones for adrenaline lovers or very childish ones that will be of interest to children under 3 years old. I really liked the concave ice pools with balls, from which you can get out with a rope 👍 you can buy an ice cube on the spot for 100 rubles if you forgot yours.

Nestled in Irkutsk, the Prince Vladimir Temple stands as a remarkable Orthodox monastery that dates back to 1888. Established to commemorate the 900th anniversary of Russia's baptism by Prince Vladimir, this architectural gem was funded by merchant Litvintsev. While it may not boast extravagant features, its pristine white facade and serene interior create a tranquil atmosphere that invites reflection. Although somewhat off the beaten path for travelers, visiting this historical site is truly worthwhile.
(Translated by Google) The church isn't fancy, but it doesn't look shabby either. The pure white exterior and interior have a calm atmosphere, enough to make you feel reverent. It is a place that is not well known to travelers, but it is worth a visit at least once. It is a few tram stops from Kazan Church. Above all, the icons of the family of Russia's last emperor, Nicholas II, were impressive. (Translated by Google) Beautiful place, friendly staff, tasty and interesting dishes, but that’s where the positives end. This establishment has karaoke. My wife and I went to see what karaoke was like. We entered the hall, we liked the atmosphere, we asked how much it cost to sing a song, we were told 500 rubles per person for 2 hours. We decided to think first and choose the song we would like to sing. We went up to the restaurant area. We found 5 different songs and went back to the karaoke room. The DJ didn’t have these songs, so he suggested downloading the apps and choosing from what was available. We sat down at a table there, downloaded applications, we could barely get internet, and connected to the local Wi-Fi. There were a lot of songs in the proposal, but nothing suited us. We politely said that we could not find anything suitable and began to get ready to leave. A security guard came up to us and said that we were charged 1000 rubles for visiting the karaoke room. We refused to pay because no one told us about this in advance. What about visiting the hall and staying in it for more than 10 minutes, it costs money, and not for the fact that you sing songs. They began to threaten us, put moral pressure on us, that if we did not pay the bill, we would call the police, and that they allegedly told us the prices in advance. For security reasons and further proceedings, we had to pay the bill, since our plane was about to depart. We made an overnight transfer in Irkutsk. I really don’t recommend this establishment, they deceive and profit from tourists. She showed us the rules of the restaurant after visiting the karaoke room when they presented the bill.

The thing I love most about Baykalo-Lenskiy truly is the locals who come and greet you when you arrive. They were so friendly, after they greeted me they grunted at each other in their common language and began to suck on the various scabs on my body, they were instantly healed. (Translated by Google) The stupa was opened in 2005. Tourists come, run circles around it, throw coins, knit ribbons, I think this has nothing to do with their worldview and religion, rather it is a tourist site, but the place is very peaceful, it offers stunning views of Lake Baikal.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful places, beyond words, they are so good! How pure, crystal, euphonious the air is! The aromas of herbs enter the very heart through the respiratory tract, enveloping you in a veil of happiness. This incredible state of silence, happiness, peace, satisfaction is collected on the tiny island of Ogoy, which is located on the Small Sea of Lake Baikal Just don’t smoke or litter on the island, don’t spit or swear. Peace and goodness to everyone (Original)

We were there in the winter, there was no souvenir shop there, which everyone writes about here. The climb is not difficult.

(Translated by Google) For me, as an Orthodox Christian, the place is not sacred. But the visit itself is interesting because of the story about Buddhism and the beauty of the place itself.
