Kalundborg Museum

Museum
Specialty Museums
The Kalundborg Museum is a charming and compact establishment that takes visitors on a journey through time, showcasing the evolution of human civilization from the Stone Age to World War II. Although it currently lacks a café, it offers restroom facilities for convenience. Located in a delightful town, this museum provides an intimate glimpse into the region's history. If you find yourself in Kalundborg, it is certainly worth paying a visit to this cozy and informative cultural institution.
The classic town museum, which has both its history and the odd exhibition and activities. It's actually interesting as the region has a lot of history related to Denmark's past ages and events.

Kalundborg has its own little unique history and I as a foreigner was totally unaware of what makes Kalundborg special. Spoilers: Carmen curls, Tour de France, WW2 B2 bomber, Medieval festival....
Richtofein K — Google review
Small but interesting museum, especially on viking- and early middle age. Has good information on the many interesting finds in the region: The maglemose culture finds and the great hall at Tissø. Also have an interesting (but small) cultural botanical garden.

A lovely, small, intimate museum, from the Stone age through to WW2. Has a toilet but needs a cafe. Lovely town too.

Beautiful church with lots of history and by far the standout building in town Supposedly is one of the few churches with that type of architecture so it's worth the trip. You can see it from many places in Kalundborg so it gives the town s charming vibe

Pleasant church⛪ peaceful surroundings 🏘️🏫🏡, beautiful view 🪟, not much rush when i was visiting. Must visit places when calling Kalundborg. There is museum 🖼️🎨 just near to this church... Check the timing on google before visting this place.. Luckily i entered inside then the church entry is closed 🔐😔 and i can't visit the museum 🎨.

This church is beautiful building nestled right in Kalundborg. It has huge towers coming off of it with a nice court yard to walk through. Once inside it is very simple but does have a stunning alter piece.

Strange architecture and pretty different from the churches present in the territory. Peculiar are the two towers at both ends of the transept.

Ferries
Fantastic wee trip. Fast and convenient. Was on catamaran ferry Express 4. Will do that again another time, no doubt. Highly recommended and no angry hairdressers making your day unpleasent. 😎💪🏻
Brian F — Google review
Clean, and easy to navigate once onboard. Really wonderful ferry to take you from one end to the other end of Denmark. Nice seats, tables and bathrooms. You can stand outside in the back of it, for some fresh air or to get some nice pictures whilst your cruising along. Really enjoy taking this ferry every time rather than driving. There are also restaurants on board, with all types of food options, and beer! Safety video is simple and easy to understand. If your not from Denmark and don’t speak the language, mostly everyone onboard will understand and speak English.
Oliver — Google review
Never ever expect you can buy a ticket from a human being at the Odden port company office as a foreigner and with your credit card not at hand. Hope the guys over there are not being paid for their communication and helpfulness👎
Frederic W — Google review
Molslinjen is an awesome ferry service with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The price-quality ratio is definitely great. The boats are beautiful, quiet, and fast. They are also reasonably priced. And to top it off, there's a super fun song that plays when you arrive at the harbor: Kombardo Kombardo Kombardo!
Frederik — Google review
I had a very disappointing experience with Molslinjen/Kombardo Express. Their websites look almost identical, and after being misled by ads and search results, I accidentally booked the wrong ticket. I contacted customer service immediately, but they refused to help or show any flexibility, even though I offered to pay the difference. Instead, I was told my ticket was simply lost. Very poor customer service and not what I would expect from a company I’ve used before. Unfortunately, this experience has made me lose trust in their service.
Tomas R — Google review
Very simple to get on board with the car and find it. Fair price wise .However it is very crowded, lots of screaming kids , people behave like in a supermarket - hunting for Spitting places, crowding up in the coffee shop and pushy in the toilet .
Anna R — Google review
Parking staff are incompetent and makes you park in a way you literally can’t open your car doors. Had to ask for help and still had to climb out via backseat doors. Unacceptable.

Trelleborg - Museum of the Viking Age

Trelleborg - Museum of the Viking Age is a fascinating destination that offers a glimpse into Viking life and culture. The museum showcases excavated objects from the Viking Age, features a reconstructed house from that era, and presents the archaeological ring castle. Visitors can explore Denmark's well-preserved Viking ring fortress dating back to the 10th century and learn about its history. The site also offers engaging workshops for children, making it an ideal family-friendly attraction.
Perfect place for the costume Wedding - we have had it on the Weekend. Storyteller of the guided tour is a dream - has answered all even stupid our questions, all the stuff is very pleasant, games outside are interesting and funny (group of the children has had a birthday party there at the same time and have had a fun - so much they were laughing).

Went there during the Viking Festival. It was really awesome. Hundreds were in costume, there were battle recreations, You could see and make craft items, learn new Viking skills. With Viking coins buy jewellery, craft, wooden swords and shields, lots of things. Or just wonder around the encampment and talk to the settlers and just learn.
Cuong S — Google review
Interesting museum and recreation of Viking structures, couldn’t believe that it was free to enter. Not much left to see of the original settlement other than the mounds, but they do a great job of helping visitors to visualize what it may have been like.

Dragsholm Castle

Mentioned on
4 lists
Hotel
Bistro
Located in a picturesque parkland, Dragsholm Castle is a 13th-century baroque castle offering elegant accommodations and high-end dining experiences. The castle houses two Michelin-starred restaurants, Dragsholm Slot Gourmet and Restaurant MOTA Anneberg Kulturpark, known for their gourmet offerings. Guests can enjoy chic rooms with upscale amenities and explore the beautiful park area surrounding the castle.
Extraordinary experience. We booked the gourmet-stay with a night in the castle and the Michelin gourmet dinner. We had matching wine menu and started out adding a glass of Louis roederer batch 244 champagne to the snacks. The food was exceptional, well deserving of the star. The wine menu was very well matched to the dishes and the sommelier was very good at introducing the wines. What really also set this experience apart from other Michelin experiences I had this year, was their ability to serve flavourful and outstanding dishes while accommodating my allergy towards onion and garlic (Which meant I had to have special sauces etc). The experience lasted 6 hours, which was maybe a bit too long as we were quite full 4 hours in. This meant I couldn’t finish half of my wineglasses and the last 5 dishes of the experience. It seems most people was there for 5-6 hours, but I presume the special sauces for me required some extra time for the chefs which is very understandable. The location was beautiful in the countryside and I would definitely recommend to always book an overnight experience here. In addition you had the castle for yourself to roam around and use the facilities, consisting of game rooms, various couch areas, a bar and a museum. The breakfast in the stables was also great, but it was hard to get up early enough when we first finished dinner at 1 AM. So we chose the late breakfast and missed the museum guide. Overall - we absolutely LOVED it, and will definitely come again.

Visited the rhododendron garden. It is very beautiful at this time of year. The rhododendron are very old and very big. Definitely worth a visit you are nearby.

Staying in a piece of history is quite a fun experience. Stairs are wicked to the second floor, esp w luggage, but great views. Middle of nowhere. Bikes are awful- don’t plan on them. Nice soft beds. Great breakfast. Bistro is excellent, even though pricey like a lot of things Danish.
Equalizeh20 — Google review
Opt for the gourmet stay, you won't be disappointed. 🤗 Great service from check in and all the way until you leave. Beaches on walking distance, dog friendly overall! Perhaps a little too hot in the rooms, but hey it's 800 years old so you really don't mind that AC is missing. Late breakfast is just awesome as well.
Christopher H — Google review
This is a pearl in a beautiful landscape. We stayed one night and everything was perfect from arrival to departure. The place with staff was so amazingly coordinated and genuinely interested in making the story and stay coherent. We had 14 perfect dishes, the wines offered at the restaurant are an outstanding selection. The service, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the story everything was orchestrated to perfection and insight in history in a subtle manner. We are grateful for the experience. Wauh!
Tine O — Google review
I recently had a terrible experience with Dragsholm, and I’m utterly disappointed. I booked a castle room which was my preference. However, due to a major error in their booking system—an error that was entirely their fault— a castle room was not available and I was stuck with an estate room only option. I made it explicitly clear from the start of my communication with Dragsholm customer service that I did not want the estate room. I was not alerted until more than a day later about the booking error with surrounding travel dates already planned. I understand errors happen but when one this large happens some sort of compensation should be offered as a true apology. To make matters worse, their so-called “customer service” was nothing more than a string of insincere apologies with no real effort to make up for the inconvenience they caused me. It’s shocking that a place with such a reputation would fail so miserably at resolving an issue they created. There was no compensation offered beyond the empty words of apology, which frankly just added insult to injury. I expected far better treatment and a genuine attempt to rectify the situation, but I got neither. Thanks to this experience, I am completely turned off from ever visiting Dragsholm again. If you’re considering staying here, beware—if anything goes wrong, you’ll be left high and dry, with no support and no recourse. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values its customers.
Greta S — Google review
I booked this stay as a birthday present for my wife, primarily for the gourmet dinner. We both agreed that it was one of the best, if not the best menu we have ever been served. As for the hotel room itself, there was little to complain about; the room was spacious and had the classic castle feel we were looking for, and the huge bathtub was a plus.
Aleksi P — Google review
We’ve been all over the world and this place for = the most peace, quiet, and serenity we’ve experienced. No wonder the original builders chose this spot. We enjoyed the cool weather + the amazing restaurant. Even the breakfast was top tier. The staff was helpful, informational, kind, and respectful. We dream of staying again in the future.

(Translated by Google) I had been looking forward to a nice day with my children, but was unfortunately met with an experience that was both disappointing and unsafe. The place appeared dirty and run-down to a degree that frankly shocked me. Several areas seemed downright dangerous, and I felt genuinely concerned for the safety of my children. With an entrance fee of 179 DKK per person, I had expected much more – the whole thing had the appearance of being neglected and dilapidated. The food was mediocre and definitely not worth the money. And unfortunately we can’t prove it, but my wife and I got food poisoning the next day and were the only ones who ate the same dish. The only bright spot was the two shows we saw – they were entertaining and professionally performed, and it is thanks to them alone that I am giving one star. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was so negative that I have no intention of returning. I hope the place takes the safety and well-being of its guests much more seriously in the future. It is directly in danger of harming someone's children and it shouldn't be legal to keep that place open.

(Translated by Google) Absolutely crazy that this place is even allowed to operate! A creepy dump of traveling fairgrounds where there is a very small probability that some of the crap they have can be kicked off while you are just standing there waiting.. No joke, it happened several times!! I counted that 9 out of 13 carousels outside were either blocked off or not working properly! Furthermore, it was almost impossible to sit in these halls for their shows, as it stank so strongly of water damage and hamster cages! (Original) Fuldstændig vanvittigt at det her sted overhovedet må drives! En uhyggelig losseplads fra omvandrende tivolier hvor der med en meget lille sandsynlighed er noget af det bras som de har, der kan sparkes igang mens du lige står og venter.. No joke det skete flere gange!! Jeg talte at 9 ud af 13 karruseller udenfor enten var spærret af eller ikke virkede som den skulle! Desuden var det nærmest umuligt at sidde i de her haller til deres shows, da der stank så kraftigt af vandskade og hamsterbur!

(Translated by Google) This is a hidden gem. We had a really good day at Circusland. The place is built with a number of smaller shows as the main attraction, and in addition a play area especially targeted at younger children, with a number of rides. Free entry and virtually no queues for rides. You shouldn't expect rides like in a large summer park, but for a small place where you are primarily there for the shows, it is really good. In the middle of the day, the artists give instructions in juggling and tightrope walking. For us, this was one of the highlights of the day. The artists are friendly and welcoming, and make sure that everyone is involved. There is equipment available that you can use during the day. Admittedly, some of it is quite worn, but it is a really positive addition - it gives another element to the place, that the entertainment can also be active. This especially means that there is also something for older children. The place has a small bistro where you can buy food. It's not great cooking, sausages and fries, but the prices are reasonable for what you get. It's also possible to bring packed lunches. The overall experience also gets a big plus from the prices. They are something as rare as reasonable. It's not exactly cheap, but a family of 4 can get in for around 650 kr. You won't get that far elsewhere. The same in the bistro. 20 kr for a cup of filter coffee is reasonable, especially when you consider that other places often charge double. It's also not full of places that are constantly trying to sell extra. There is a candy stall and a small souvenir shop, also with reasonable prices. Similar places are hard to get away from without having spent several 100 kr - you get the feeling here that the place is not run to get the biggest profit, but out of love for the circus. Big praise to Circusland and the sweet and friendly staff. We'll be back!

Beaches
The beach pavilion Gudmindrup Lyng is a spacious and expansive sandy beach with secluded areas nestled among the dunes. Despite its sandy terrain, there is a well-defined pathway that allows easy access to the water for older people, those with disabilities, and parents pushing prams. Abundant room is available for children to play and have fun. The facilities include clean toilets and a kiosk offering a variety of food, ice cream, and drinks.
This place is an wide and open sandy beach with some privacy within the dunes. Although it is an sandy beach there is a fixed path so it is not bigger problem for old and disabled people as also for parents with pram to reach the water. There is also a lot of space for kids to play and enjoy. Toilets are existing and clean. Also a kiosk with some food, ice and beverages is existing. Free of charge parking is possible (not common in Denmark). In the after season (starting september) this place can be very contemplative.

Four stars...for being in Denmark. Nice sandy beach with shallow waters. We have been there because we needed a bit of seaside to remind us we are in the summer😂 It was sunny and we were tempted to have a bath. Unfortunately, we did not have any towels. Dunes can shelter you from the wind. Parking is available really close to the beach. Worth a visit.

Best beach in Denmark without any doubt. Very clear water and when the weather allows you to take a swim you often see good temperatures here due to the bay.

Very nice beach area, pretty surroundings, good parking opportunities, opportunity for food. The beach itself is very nice with good sand. The water doesn't get deep till quite far out, so great place to take the kids. Also good for sea kayaking, for newbies too. And when hunger has set in, the Haveje eatery has great burgers. Definitely worth a visit if you're on vacation in the area

5mtr depth, water clear enough to see the bottom . It takes a Boat though to get long enough out to reach 5mtr. Finest sand and clearest water on the island Sealand in Denmark. Short on parking spots, the city council ought to buy some empty pieces of land 5-600 mtr away to make it easier to park for visitors who come from a far distance

This was a fantastik place to visit. We want on family trip for haloween. 2 adults and 2 kids. Fair entry price. Very pretty haloween setup and decoration. Loads of stuff for the kids. At driving, horror labyrinth, scary decorations, Donkey rides, petting zoo, and much much more. We spend about 3 hours and are the lunch we brought on the clean and covered terrasse. There was an eatery as well with the usual burger and fries but also other more Danish items. Again fair prices. Would happily go back and have a look again for the xmas decorations and marked. Time well spend and well worth it.

Panzermuseum East is a museum that offers a glimpse into the significance of armored vehicles during World War II, particularly in Germany. The museum showcases the military force of the Warsaw Pact during the Cold War, featuring logistic military vehicles and medium-heavy tanks like T85, T55, and T75. Visitors can explore an extensive exhibition of armor and even enter some of the vehicles and a plane.
It was a very cool place. They had tons of military vehicles from all ages, mostly from World War II and the Cold War. They also let you hold real weapons, and there was a big military convention where you could buy genuine military surplus. You could buy things from WWII and The Cold War, Like Helmets, Bullets, Uniforms, Medal, Gas Masks, and other cool military equipment. I would definitely recommend and would go there again 100%.
ProTobias P — Google review
Very nice museum. All the vehicles are in very good conditions - freshly painted. Ale stuff there is well educated in Cold War history. Definitely worth to visit this place.

Impressive private collection of the gear that would have walked over Denmark if it went down in the eighties. Absolutely worth the drive from Copenhagen. And yes, the dude has his own Hind!

Very good museum I love it its one of my favorite 🍛
Moper 1 — Google review
A rich collection of especially cold war era millitary vehicles, clothes, equipment etc. 1-2 hours are ideal to plan for the museum. The vehicles seem to be in excellent condition and there is plenty of information available to learn about them. I can only recommend to check it out. The staff is also super friendly and there is a packed store too!
Máté S — Google review
Immaculate exhibition, very detailed, with English explanations. The owner is clearly passionate of eastern block Cold War equipment . If you are interested, you could easily spent half a day there!!
Thibaud J — Google review
Desperate by the absence of something interesting to sightseeing near Reerso, we decided to give this museum a chance. The guys love history as I do and this museum gives a chance to have an idea of the military force of Varsavia Pact in the cold war. The collection is mainly made of logistic military vehicles and only three medium-heavy tanks (T85, T55, T75). The visit is nice but a bit expensive for my tastes. Possibility to buy lego-like military toys, models and clothes.

good and "hyggelig" museum, where you get to walk in differrent old homes/buildings to see different exihibitions.
Maja M — Google review
I thoroughly enjoyed and was fascinated by the 8 buildings featured in this museum (though buildings 5 and 8 were closed for renovations during my visit)! Most of the exhibits focus on life in Denmark, particularly in the Holbaek area. I especially loved the pottery/ceramics building and found several pieces that I adored. The garden area surrounded by the buildings was also pretty! The admission price was fair at 50 Danish Kronors for students and 60 Danish Kronors for adults, considering the extensive exhibits. However, most of the buildings have texts only in Danish, with several English translations available.

Knud Rasmussens House, nestled in the charming coastal town of Hundested, is a captivating museum that celebrates the life and legacy of the renowned polar explorer. Surrounded by stunning views of the Kattegat, this former summer residence offers visitors a unique blend of history and natural beauty. The house itself is designed in an enchanting English thatched cottage style and retains its original furnishings, providing an authentic glimpse into Rasmussen's world.
The house of Knud Rasmussen is worth a visit in itself. But I soften come here just to enjoy the view. In Danish terms you are up high and get an excellent view of the ocean and the bay.
Frederik B — Google review
We visited Knud Rasmunssen's house for an evening walk. The approx. 1.5 km route from Hundested beach to the house along the shoreline was wonderful when the sun was setting. The house was of course closed at that time, but its surroundings were open. We walked to a nearby small lighthouse and a meadow full of horses. There was soft sunset light everywhere in the beautifully rolling grassy dune landscape. The atmosphere was almost unreal. It is worth visiting even when it is closed for the day.
Heikki K — Google review
It was certainly a very interesting visit. The site is located in a beautiful natural setting, and inside the house there are many memorabilia of Knud's life and work. The atmosphere gives the impression that Knud still lives there!
Paolo C — Google review
I went there on Monday, when the museum is closed. However, I still recommend coming to visit the place. Truly beautiful beaches, the lighthouse is really sweet, Rasmussens house is so cute and in this old Danish style. Really really awesome for a day trip from Copenhagen.

What a great little museum to visit and it is in a wonderful location on the coast. The house design is based on an English thatched cottage and was his summer house and where he chose to work from. Many photographs and information about Rasmussen's explorations and all the original furniture/furnishings were as he left it. The staff there were very helpful. Well worth a visit.

Bakery
During my recent travels, I had the pleasure of visiting Bakery Enø I / S, where I indulged in a delightful array of fresh bread and pastries each morning while staying at a nearby holiday bungalow. The quality was simply outstanding! Their ice cream selection is nothing short of extraordinary; the blackcurrant with crumble was particularly memorable. Each scoop is generous and creamy, featuring flavors like stracciatella with rich chocolate chunks and refreshing cherry.

Gavnø, located in South Zealand, Denmark, is a captivating destination featuring a stunning rococo castle dating back to the 12th century. The castle showcases an impressive collection of antiques, art, and furniture that offer a glimpse into its rich history. Surrounding the castle are magnificent seasonal flower gardens that add to the charm of this picturesque island. Additionally, visitors can explore Scandinavia's largest privately-owned picture collection housed within the castle.
Enjoyed the castle and the tulips were gorgeous.
Tim A — Google review
I should have paid attention to the reviews on trip advisors before buying tickets, the entrance fees are expensive not to mention the long journey there and back with castle representative who is self-entitled and lacking in empathy and conscience as per many visitors review on trip advisor. They posted pictures of tulips on their website stating that there will be tulips from April to May but grass is all that we saw when we went in May. Other gardens will close for replanting with clear closure date on the website but this place insist that they did nothing wrong for making visitors travel and waste half a day after paying for the expensive tickets. Their sales coordinator Mit freundlichen Grüssen Trine Skarnager even scolded me and replied in a mean condescending tone for politely asking if we could get a refund and wanting to share our experience on trip advisor. Very arrogant, demeaning attitude and one of the worst service recovery ever. There was poor signage and the castle was cordoned off with no one onsite to ask so we could not enter. We visited Kalmar castle and the hosts there are so much friendlier and helpful with cheaper tickets and the place is much more beautiful with more things to see. In the end I let them keep my money, if only money could buy their conscience, other than swallowing tourists hard earn money for the hollow facade with decaying hospitality.

The Ringsted Radiomuseum is a must-visit for technology enthusiasts, HiFi lovers, home electronics industry professionals, or parents wanting to share nostalgia with their children. Although not large, it can be explored within an hour. While refreshments like coffee and cake are available, they may not be worth your attention.
Fascinating to see such a collection of radios etc. all under one roof and so well displayed. Compliments as it is evident that a lot of work and dedication has gone into the making of this museum. Well worth a visit, a shame that I couldn’t stay longer to see everything. Very educational for children and adults.

BonBon-Land is a delightful candy-themed amusement park that offers a wide variety of attractions suitable for all ages. From thrilling roller coasters to family-friendly rides and entertaining statues scattered throughout the park, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The park provides ample parking options, including free parking for season pass holders. Visitors can bring their own food for a picnic experience and explore the vast area filled with exciting features.
Great amusement park , with a lot of great options for all age groups. What I like the most is that we could bring our food inside and enjoy little picnic time. Is the place where we can spend whole day and still get to see new things around(is the big area, there are many amazing things in different corners 🙂) . Great parking space, few games has long queue but most of them had short waiting time. Its advantage that kids under 90 cm has a free entry. There is small water park for kids, so it’s better to take their swimming customs if they love playing with water.

It is a fantastic spot for a family day out. The kids absolutely love it, no question about that and there is something for everyone, regardless of age. From fun rides and playful activities for little ones to more thrilling attractions and relaxing areas for adults, the place offers an all rounded experience. It is the kind of place where you can easily spend an entire day without getting bored.

Great fun. Family of 5. Lots of people for the Halloween theme. Just a shame the big swing wasn’t working again. 2 times I’ve been here this year and it was off.

Excellent location and opportunities for kids to play around!!! Probably among one of the best near Copenhagen..!!!, Unfortunately three of the main rides were not functional today 24/07… And the park was swamped by BEES both my children had been stings…
Junaid — Google review
It's an amazing amusement park and the rides are awesome. The food they sell is also great. There is also a relaxing place to eat breakfast or lunch near the ducks and fish
Malek A — Google review
1. A bit too expensive. Differentiate between people taking the rides and those who just accompany them. 2. Many attractions were closed, and there was no info about it before er entered. 3. It's quite pricey - also with the golden membership card. 4. A bit neglected here and there. 5. What is that thing with farting in Bonbon Land? Is this really something that you can offer children in their spare time? (Show about farting, etc.) 6. Food is junk and expensive. 90% is just trash like slush ice, french fries, and coke. Besides: good size, quite many different places to play around, a lot of attractions where 3-4 years old can ride on, and rather friendly staff.

The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, Denmark, offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient and medieval maritime culture. The museum is home to five remarkably well-preserved Viking ships that were excavated at Skuldelev and date back to the 11th century. Visitors can explore original 1,000-year-old Viking ships as well as exact replicas at the museum harbor.
An unforgettable experience for anyone who loves Norse history and mythology! The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde is not just a museum - it’s a journey into the heart of the Viking world. Standing face to face with actual ships that once sailed the seas over a thousand years ago gave me chills. These vessels, recovered from the Roskilde Fjord, are deeply tied to the seafaring spirit of the Norse people. If you're passionate about Nordic mythology, this place is a dream. You can easily imagine these ships as the kind that carried warriors who worshipped Odin, sailed under Thor’s protection, and told tales of Loki’s mischief by the fire. The longships here evoke the legendary drakkars - dragon-headed ships said to sail across Midgard and into mythic battles. The museum also shows how real Viking life blended seamlessly with the mythological world. The sea wasn't just water - it was sacred and feared, ruled by gods and creatures from the sagas. The craftsmanship of the ships reflects this reverence. There are also live demonstrations of traditional boatbuilding using ancient tools, and you can even sail in replica Viking ships yourself - a truly immersive way to feel like part of a saga. Beautifully located on the fjord, this museum is a must-visit. Whether you're a history buff, a mythology lover, or both, this is one of the most inspiring and atmospheric museums in Denmark.

At the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, you’ll see the real Viking history — quite literally in pieces. The remains of five original Viking ships are displayed here, each with its own story of sea voyages, trade, and warfare. There are guided tours and activities running throughout the day, so it’s worth checking the schedule when you arrive. The guide shares the fascinating history behind the five ships that were discovered just a stone’s throw from here, in Roskilde Fjord. For those feeling hands-on, there’s a small workshop where you can try building your own miniature Viking ship. The kids especially loved hammering and sawing away. I had signed up for the sailing tour, where you get to sail on a Viking ship and even help raise the sail as part of the crew. Unfortunately, only four of us showed up out of the ten tickets sold — the rain kept the rest away. Without enough people for the weight balance, the trip had to be cancelled. Safe to say, I was pretty disappointed — it’s not every day you get to sail like a Viking. There’s also a restaurant by the museum. I tried the Viking platter — decent, but nothing to shout about.

Not far from the Copenhagen, about 30 mins train ride. Just a reminder, you have to walk about 30-40 mins from Roskilde Station to the Viking Museum. Arrived at the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum around mid morning. There are two areas: first inside the agreat Hall, you'll see the five ancient Skuldelev ships in somewhat in skeletons forms. You'll feel a quiet awe just looking at their thousand-year-old remains. Second part is the outside where you'll see a beautiful place view with tons of boats. Tons of things to do outside, you can watch boatbuilders meticulously crafting replica ships in the boatyard. You can also sail out on the fjord in one of the reconstructed longships, sadly no more available slots for the day. If you have the budget and you'd like to fully experience, I suggest to pre book before going. Since we went during summer (end of August) you are allowed to climb aboard other replicas at the harbor, even try on Viking clothes. Overall it's a full experience.
Tiffany D — Google review
One of the most important attractions and museums during the visit to Copenhagen (40minutes by train). Staff are so welcoming with smile. Cinematography short movie in many languages will help a lot to understand the museum. The workshops outside will show you how the V-boats were built. Don’t miss it
Jean Z — Google review
A world-class and unique experience which is a must-visit if you're coming to Copenhagen as it's brilliant and only a 30-minute ride on the train (which is cheap and very frequent). See several recovered Viking long ships, discover about the different types and how they were built and used and then see expert craftspeople making replicas for experimental archaeology - sailing them to see how the Vikings would have used them. You can also become part of a crew in a small longboat close to the centre. And kids can design and make their own boat in wood with hand tools. Free tours in Danish and English by students are good and friendly. The venue hosts special exhibitions downstairs in the main hall. Several places to eat and drink on-site. Medium-size car park. If walking from the town train station, it's a pleasant and mostly flat walk. The shop has lots of Danish culture things to buy as well as stuff related to the Vikings. All staff friendly and helpful.

This museum is an incredible place filled with authentic Viking ships, fascinating artifacts, and tons of interesting facts about the Vikings. Both children and adults will find plenty to explore and enjoy. During my visit, there was a blacksmith workshop where a skilled craftsman demonstrated traditional forging techniques. There was also a shipbuilding area where craftsmen were using hand tools to build seaworthy Viking ships — a truly impressive sight. For kids, there’s a small hands-on workshop where they can build their own miniature ships from scrap wood and test them in a water pool. There’s also a replica of a Viking household, complete with Viking clothing you can try on and a play area for children. The museum also has an excellent restaurant with delicious food and a cozy atmosphere. And best of all — if the weather is good, you can join the crew of a real Viking ship replica and sail out to sea. An unforgettable experience!

I was a bit sceptical at first when i read its about one Viking boat restored. But there are 5 of them, and , whats more they have been fully rebuilt and are available even to step-in at the port next to the museum ! I learnt a lot from the short film in the museum. Go to the boat workshop at the port - they are just building a new boat, using old traditional tools, and you can chat with craftsmen. It was Worth a visit/trip from Copenhagen.

Roskilde Viking ship museum is a fantastic place. The museum has the excavated remains of Viking vessels, with activities for kids. Outside are reconstructed vessels and workshops where they are experimentally building new Viking vessels. Good facilities and cafes, free entry with a Copenhagen card and easily signposted from Roskilde train station. Well worth a visit.

Roskilde Cathedral

Sights & Landmarks
Roskilde Cathedral, a 12th-century Gothic brick cathedral in Denmark, is a significant monument due to its unique architecture and historical importance. It is the first brick-built Gothic-style cathedral in Scandinavia and has evolved over 800 years to reflect changing architectural styles. The cathedral serves as the royal family's burial church, housing the tombs of numerous kings and queens. Visitors can explore its imposing exteriors and interiors while learning about Danish history.
You have to visit Roskilde Cathedral! Its amazing brickwork and unique style are so impressive, but the history inside is even better. Exploring the royal tombs is truly fascinating – especially look for the hidden tombstone of the three-legged horse and other cool myths surrounding the royal burials! The stunning Antwerp altarpiece and detailed royal tombs are also a beautiful sight. It was a fantastic visit, totally worth your time to discover its secrets!
K. D — Google review
As a history enthusiast, I was absolutely blown away by Roskilde Cathedral. This UNESCO World Heritage site is not just a stunning architectural marvel, but a living timeline of Danish royal history. Touring it with Ophelia Tours made the experience even more unforgettable - our guide Rene was knowledgeable, passionate, and made the entire visit engaging and fun. The cathedral’s sheer historical significance is staggering. It’s the final resting place of over 40 Danish monarchs, including Queen Margrethe I and King Christian IV. Walking through its chapels feels like stepping back in time - each one reflects the artistic styles and political shifts of the era in which it was built. From Gothic to Baroque to Renaissance, the cathedral is a tapestry of over 800 years of Danish history. The detail inside is breathtaking. The intricate tombs, the majestic organ, the soaring vaulted ceilings, and the peaceful crypts all tell powerful stories. I especially loved learning how the cathedral evolved over time and seeing how each generation left its mark - something you rarely get to witness so vividly in one place. Roskilde itself is a charming town, full of cozy streets, great cafés, and a welcoming vibe. It made the perfect day trip from Copenhagen - peaceful, beautiful, and rich with history. Highly recommend both the cathedral and Ophelia Tours. This was truly a highlight of our Denmark trip!

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Today we celebrate its 30yrs. Very much worth a visit. Roskilde Cathedral is one of the most meaningful places to visit in Denmark, see a thousand years of Royal history, architectural masterpieces and art. Parking: limited parking available, 2hrs free parking and there will be a charge after that. Toilet is available inside the cathedral Disability access: may be a bit challenging as most areas have stairs. But may go around the plain floored part of the cathedral Original structure: Began as a church built by King Harald Bluetooth around 980 AD (made of wood). • The current brick cathedral replaced the earlier church around 1170–1280. • It was one of the first Gothic-style cathedrals in Scandinavia, built mainly from red brick, influencing church architecture across Northern Europe. 👑 Royal Burial Site • Since the 15th century, Roskilde Cathedral has been the main burial site for Danish monarchs. • Over 40 Danish kings and queens are buried here — including: • Queen Margrethe I (founder of the Kalmar Union) • King Christian IV • King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid • Future monarchs, like Queen Margrethe II, also have tombs prepared there - refer to last photos Inside the Cathedral • Richly decorated altars, frescoes, and royal sarcophagi. • Features impressive organ pipes and historic tombs made of marble and alabaster. • Each royal chapel is unique, showing how Danish art and architecture evolved through the centuries.

A true marvel of a cathedral, a burial place for many Danish kings. We took a tour that took as to the cathedral on a bus. We arrived right before the opening, and the whole place without crowds that appeared a short while later. The place is rich in history but a tour guide really helps to appreciate that. Otherwise it may look like a regular church.

I live in Rome. Many people from all over the world come here. I know our beauties, yet Roskilde Cathedral is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. It's full of imposing, celebratory monuments. What you feel, standing there, is the solemnity of the Danish kingdom.

This cathedral is definitely worth visiting. The interior architectural is beautiful and this place holds so many of the kings grave and they are so beautiful!!! The entrance ticket is also more reasonable than the other places of interest...

Not far from the Roskilde Station. Going into Roskilde Cathedral feels like walking straight into the past. This is where Danish kings and queens have been buried for hundreds of years. You'll walk past royal tombs some in fancy and beautiful stone bed for a queen or king. The real "design" highlight is the royal chapels, which are like small museums themselves. Each one was built in a different time period, so you see everything from medieval wall paintings to huge, dramatic Baroque and Renaissance tombs.

RAGNAROCK - Museet for pop, rock og ungdomskultur is a vibrant celebration of music and youth culture that invites visitors to explore the dynamic relationship between these two forces. Spanning an impressive 1,200 m2, the museum features 11 themed exhibits that chronicle the evolution of music from the 1950s onward. As you wander through its engaging displays, you'll uncover fascinating stories about the Roskilde Festival and Denmark's rich rock scene.
Would definitely recommend going - an interesting story about the Roskilde festival, its progress, solists, residents, a good insight into Roskilde's past and the flourishing of the festival. Personally, I'm not interested in rock, but there was more than that here, different rooms, activities, there was an opportunity to sing and listen to a wide variety of music. 👍🏻

The place to learn and experience about Danish (rock) music with lots of interactive exhibits, we all and especially the kids loved it. You can sing in a recording studio, you can dance in front of a great video wall like in the ps/switch games, there is a giant turntable you can lie on and listen to music...it is really cool and included in the Copenhagen card.

Absolutely loved this interactive and unique experience.. . Ragnarock is a Museum dedicated to the history and celebration of Danish Rock music, Music festivals, and Youth culture. Whilst staying in Copenhagen, visiting Denmark from the UK, we stumbled on this attraction after purchasing the Copenhagen Card. As a family we enjoy exploring new places so we decided to take a day trip to Roskilde (approx. 25 mins on the train from Copenhagen central). . Ragnarock is approx 20 mins walk from Roskilde station and is situated in a neighborhood called 'Musicon.DK'. Musicon.DK is a purpose built vibrant community for creative businesses and artists. The walk from station is well pathed but there are not many signs directing you to the museum so I would recommend using GPS to guide you if you don't have a map. Once you reach the Music on.DK area you will have no issues finding the Museum as it's a stinking venue that towers over everything else around the area. . On entering the museum straight away you will notice how this place is not only special, it's totally unique. The staff on reception were so welcoming and friendly and immediately explained (in English) how the museum works and the interactive activities available for children to play along with as you travel through the museum. You start the journey through each floor by heading up to the 3rd floor and walking down through each of the different areas. Every single area has interactive parts where you can dance, listen to music, read immersive stories, or produce your own music. All this whilst learning about the rock and youth culture of Denmark. . On completion of the exhibitions there is an excellent cafe to buy home cooked food which was exceptionally good for a museum and very good value for money. There are also plenty of facilities and a shop situated on the ground floor. . One of the quirky experiences is the cloakroom... Here you hang your jacket on the pull system which lifts the jacket above your head and locks it there until you want to collect it. It may sound crazy but it kept my kids occupied.... Ragnarock is such good fun if you get the chance to visit - take it. You won't be disappointed.
