Sights & Landmarks
Dokk1 is a cultural center and the main branch of the Aarhus Library, located in a striking waterfront building. It offers a modern public space perfect for nocturnal exploration and cultural events, with ambient lighting and architectural grandeur by the harbor.
Dokk1 in Aarhus is a wonderful destination for anyone, whether you’re with family, a partner, or exploring on your own. Nestled right by the harbor, this library offers stunning views through its expansive floor-to-ceiling glass walls, creating a serene and inspiring space to read, work, or simply relax. Inside, the library is designed to be both modern and inviting, with plenty of cozy nooks for quiet reading and workspaces that feel open and filled with natural light. The outdoor playground is fantastic for kids, with interactive installations and plenty of space for them to explore. The coffee shop is another highlight, serving up rich, quality coffee alongside a nice selection of pastries, making it easy to stay and enjoy the space for hours. Dokk1 isn’t just a library—it’s a community space that feels vibrant yet calming, with the perfect mix of bustling areas and quiet corners. We loved the place so much that we went twice during our 3-day visit to Aarhus!

When it comes to the space where you can feel the best local feeling, I choose the library. I always visit the city's library wherever I go, but this place felt very family-friendly. Rather than borrowing a book, I felt like I was spending time with my family here and spending the day. The library itself was not a big one. However, to be in a place where you can see the beautiful sea, you will feel good.

Totally awesome place to study and also relax with the view. I always come here and going forward for reviewing my notes in lib. Removed one star because it closed on Saturday 😭
Tangellapalli R — Google review
A pretty nice and large library with many options for entertainment. A lot of college students like to go down there to review their work or just relax with a book or their multitude of games. There’s both consoles (Which you need to ask to be opened) and other options for games. Back in the days it used to have more classic consoles, which unfortunately don’t seem to be there anymore, at least to my knowledge. As a local I’d recommend going if you have nothing to do in town.
Frederik Y — Google review
Favorite spot in town! Literally can spend a whole day working and studying in this library, the view is just too amazing 🤩
Linh T — Google review
Great place for tourists and children. Nice views across the harbour with seating and cafe to rest for tourists. and lots of children books and area for kids. Can get busy during the day. Lots of university students here studying.
Anthony C — Google review
Apart from the fact that there is access to a wonderful library, study room, high-tech exhibitions, spaces where you can have a coffee with friends, underground parking, etc... for me, it is the most beautiful view of the sea.
Maria M — Google review
Very beautiful architecture with several reading areas and Cafés. You have amazing views of the city and waterfront from the library. I can't comment the books as I don't speak Danish but I felt the foreign language books could have been a little more.

The ARoS Aarhus Art Museum is a prominent art museum located in Aarhus, Denmark. It houses an extensive collection of Danish art from the 18th century to contemporary works, as well as a diverse foreign collection featuring renowned artists from various countries. The museum's striking exterior resembles a floating red-brick box and spans ten storeys.
Lovely Art Museum with a lot of modern art. They have a significant collection of Danish artists. Currently there is a Picasso and others on the display. You can also see Andy Warhol’s art there. On the top of the building there is a Rainbow Panorama which is very interesting. Art is spread over 10 floors in the building. Parking is not a problem around the museum. Inside you can have a coffee and a light meal.
Rafal K — Google review
The building itself is pretty cool. Some of the exhibitions are nice. They have headphones but only in Danish. The roof top sky walk is fun to take photos of.
Irene K — Google review
suppose I hate modern art as most of this was dreadful to my eyes. I did like the landscape paintings and a few others but most of it was weird, bad or just utter nonsense. The two women cutting onions was the biggest joke they called art. I don’t get the rainbow roof either, so what? It’s tinted glass, for kids or Instagram/TikTokers it may be good but not for adults.
Rob — Google review
♿ Entrance = Yes ♿ Parking = Yes ♿ Building = Yes ♿ Elevator = small / medium sized The aarhus art museum is what I was looking forward to see for awhile now and I got the chance to do it today. I was a bit disappointed from the expectations as they do have 10 floors but in reality only 7-8. The highest floor has the rainbow colored glass and This is definitely the best part of the museum in my opinion. 2 levels below it as the human art which was decent. The floor below it was okay. And all the other floors wasn't worth checking out. 2 floors were for a younger audience. So if you're going as a family it may be worth visiting all the floors. If you're all adults. You may not stay there for super long. They have a cafeteria and toilets as well as Free WiF, they have a button that slows down the rotating door which is good for bad walkers or wheelchair usersi. It's not a bad place but not a super interesting one either in my opinion.
Crafo — Google review
Beautiful museum. A lot of stairs, but there are elevators available for people with difficulty to walk. We loved the interactive art area. We appreciated that the front desk employee warned us for a scarier exposition on the third floor, since we brought our child. That way we could avoid it. What could have made the experience so much better would be if they’d implement a play area for young children. Young kids can get bored or overwhelmed and it would be nice if they could de-stimulate in a play area/child friendly area. That way someone can watch the kids in the play area while the other can enjoy art in peace. The rainbow panorama is very noisy. This could trigger you if you’re sound sensitive. Best is to bring some kind of noise cancelling for a better experience. There was so much amazing art in this museum. It’s definitely worth a visit. Parking is a bit difficult. We went on a workday and there were very few parking spots available.
Manita P — Google review
Walking into ARoS feels like entering a soul. Not a building. A soul. There’s this weight in the air — not heavy like sadness, but like meaning. Like emotion stretched out over canvas and sculpture. Like a mirror you didn’t ask for, but couldn’t look away from. 🪞💔 You walk past massive human forms, surreal tunnels, and sometimes... just emptiness. But the kind that makes you want to cry and laugh and fall in love all at once. Every room feels like an emotion you once had — or tried to forget. 😭💗🖤 And then… then there’s the rainbow panorama. The city is below you, silent, distant, still... and you’re walking through color. Through emotion. Through perspective. Through the prism of your own heart. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 Every step changes how you see the world. How you see yourself. You start yellow, full of joy. Then blue… melancholic. Red… passionate. Green… calm. It's like mood rings for the soul. I walked that circle three times. Once with wonder. Once with longing. Once just to cry. 🌈🔁🫂 This isn’t just art. It’s emotional warfare. It rips you open and stitches you back up with neon thread. 🧵✨
Oliver — Google review
This museum is a hidden gem. There are 9 floors full of different kinds of art, and the collections never felt too repetitive like the large world-class art museums sometimes do. Floor 0 and all the installments must be checked out; our favorite was the Storm Room haha! I think total I spent 4 hours here, but I went back later in the day before it closed so luckily you can break it up a bit if you need to.
Blake W — Google review
A great museum for a wide range of art, from paintings to 3D sculptures and the rainbow circle of glass on top. The building itself was super cool, especially the internal «courtyard» in the middle with its bridges spanning across the ravine. Enjoyed my visit and will def revisit if I get back to Århus!

The Greenhouses in the Botanical Garden of Aarhus offer a unique experience, featuring plants from around the world within four distinct climate zones. Visitors can take a break from city exploration and immerse themselves in the artificial rainforest, gaining insight into diverse plant life. The garden also provides outdoor areas such as heath and beach landscapes for relaxation.
The wife and I visited when we went to Denmark recently. It was great. Free of charge, a lot to see, a lovely cafe and a good souvenir shop.
James R — Google review
We visited Aarhus for the day while on a cruise, and the Botanical Gardens and Tropical Houses quickly became one of my absolute favourite stops. Nestled right in the city, this beautiful green space offers a peaceful escape and a surprising amount to explore—all for free, which I really appreciated! The gardens themselves are lovely to stroll through, showcasing native Danish plants and thoughtfully designed landscapes. But the real highlight for me was the Tropical Houses. The glass domes are like stepping into a different world—lush, warm, and full of life. Inside, you’re surrounded by towering palms, vibrant flowers, waterfalls, and even butterflies fluttering freely through the air. As a houseplant lover, I was blown away by the size and health of many familiar plants I grow at home—jade plants, umbrella plants, bird of paradise, banana plants, philodendrons, and so many more. They looked like they were on steroids compared to my little potted versions! It was amazing to see them in this thriving, naturalistic environment. Whether you’re into plants, photography, or just want a relaxing place to explore, this spot is a must-visit in Aarhus. It’s a perfect mix of nature, education, and tranquility, right in the middle of the city. Don’t miss this gem—especially if you’re visiting Aarhus on a short stop like we were. I’d go back in a heartbeat!

It's good to visit this botanical garden once, but you don't have to. This place seems to be one of the places loved by locals. It is well decorated with various themes and well-organized to understand.
웅냥냥 — Google review
A beautiful botanical garden with so many plants you’ve seen and others you probably haven’t. I can’t believe this is free to just walk around and stay as long as you like. Personally, an hour is plenty here but it is a beautiful place to see.
Rob — Google review
I love coming here! Such a varied, big, well looked after and FREE place! They have an awesome variety of plant species and the last section you can walk through packs a lot of fun in a cool space. There is a cafe there and gift shop. Plenty of things to occupy all ages! Parking is paid parking.
Emily K — Google review
Nice place if you’re looking to spend your time meaningful and relaxing. If you are a nature lover then this must be in your bucket list . When we were here we feel like throat we were at home Sri Lanka . All the plantations belong to Sri Lanka climate planted here inside the green house . And the sounds are also match perfectly to the environment. Tropical weather with high humidity and all the plantations are here to find .
Don K — Google review
Very beautiful place full of many different plants from many different colours. The entrance was free. There's even a wooden watchtower inside and some butterflies flying around the greenhouses.

Specialty Museums
The Old Town, also known as Den Gamle By, is a captivating open-air museum in Aarhus, Denmark. It features over 75 historic buildings dating from the 16th to the early 20th century, meticulously collected and preserved to recreate an authentic market town from the time of Hans Christian Andersen. The museum offers a glimpse into Denmark's past with its well-preserved houses, shops, workshops, and windmills that still function as they did in bygone eras.
This place is amazing for kids and adults. It was the highlight of our 3 day trip to Aarhus. We especially loved the 1922 cafe (where we bought coffee and pastries prepared, baked, and served like in the original time) and the historic bakery (where we bought actual bread and pastries that would have been available on the original time). The other buildings and exhibits are great too. The festival grounds were especially loved by our 4 year old. Overall, one of the best open air museums we've been to.
Michael L — Google review
Absolutely amazing place! It really is like you are back in time. It was so interesting walking around fully immersed in the past. You could maybe spend all day here if you really took your time. My favourite thing in Aarhus and possibly the best musuem I’ve been to!
Rob — Google review
A wonderful step back in times past, representing many eras, cultures and historic events. Great for the family and history buffs. This spacious recreation is thoughtfully laid out walking through the Vikings to 1970s in the form of Main Street, museum of artifacts, village recreations and country estate with authentic trade shops. Historic coffee and bakery from the 1800s was inviting and delicious. Preteens may not appreciate the historical context of Aarhus, said to be the first civilized port of the Viking era. Well maintained and mostly accessible. Loved our visit
M H — Google review
The absolutely beautiful museum took me back in time. I loved the 1970s themed arrangements the most. We had the perfect opportunity to visit during the K7 week too. Watch out for the ducks, they chase you!
Jacinda J — Google review
What a fun experience. See housing, shops and vocational skills from several different time periods. Well maintained, picturesque area, and friendly hosts. Cute gift shop, too, that offers a variety of options from candy and toys, to kitchen gadgets, books, and ornaments.
Ashley S — Google review
Our first stop this morning was to The Old Town Museum (known as Den Gamle By). It is a museum that allows visitors to have a feel of the architecture and culture of the different eras – particularly the years 2014, 1974, 1927 and 1864. Even the streets have been remodelled accordingly with the cobbled streets belonging to an older era and smoother streets to the more modern era. You will see that the entire Old Town museum in Aarhus is immersive in that you can enter different buildings and learn about the history of that particular building. There are also period actors that would perhaps be a blacksmith, a backer and even a brewer – whom you can interact with to learn more about what they are doing... For the full review of Den Gamble By and details of our 5 Months Round The World Trip, visit 2bearbear today!

Den Gamle By is a very cool experience. We spent over 6 hours exploring all of the homes, businesses and gardens that have been recreated/ reconstructed. Good variety of food and drink options as you make your way through. Quite a lot of interactions set up in many of the exhibits, and the rotary phones you can use to call businesses in the town are such a fun idea.
FinaHoldt — Google review
Stepping into Aarhus Old Town is like time travel! You'll love wandering its charming cobblestone streets, admiring the beautifully preserved old buildings. It's truly an open-air museum, brimming with Danish history and a delightful, authentic atmosphere. Don't miss this captivating journey back in time!

Moesgaard Museum

Archaeological museum
Moesgaard Museum, located 10km south of the city, is a modernist museum that emerges from the ground with a spectacular design. The museum houses exhibits spanning various eras, from the Stone Age to the Viking era, featuring well-preserved artifacts and archaeological displays. One of its star attractions is the 2000-year-old Grauballe Man.
♿ Entrance = Yes ♿ Parking = Yes ♿ Building = Yes ♿ Elevator = medium / long size. The place is in a good beautiful natural environment and it's pretty calm. There are many parking lots. Their is a wheelchair accessible door and parking lot outside (close to the building). The elevator is in a good size for most wheelchair users. This place is truly worth visiting and you will need 4-5h or more to see all of it. The building is gigantic from both inside and outside. There are many benches to rest, has audio (headphones), lots of projectors and display, there's a few interactions. The walking way is for most part wheelchair accessible and only some parts or area it may be tight or not accessible but even then it's more than 4h of exploring. Some things look like you have already seen or are repetitive but it goes from the Viking age to iron and other evolutions. Restaurant may be a bit on the pricey side and there is a roof you can go on to admire the view. Their is a souvenir shop but I haven't found anything of interest or is too much for my liking. The museum is great to check out.
Crafo — Google review
A visually stunning musician with an already huge reputation for arts and culture. One of my favourite nutrients of the year! This lives up to every expectation set; accessible, huge, interactive, fun for kids, insightful, visually stunning and such an education. The Celtic exhibition was really special, and the attention to detail was incredible. The thought that has gone into these exhibitions means it's somewhere I will always come back to when I visit the area. I've read about the performances also outside which look incredible too.
Danny R — Google review
To see each and every part of museum, you need at least 4hr max more then that. Really a awesome place to visit at weekend. Entire museum goes like a movie, each and every place you can find explanation.
Amruth R — Google review
What a wonderful museum! Great display of Viking as well as middle ages relics. Nice life-size diorama. Very good films. Everything with English text and/or English audio. Nice experimental things for kids to playfully learn with. The building itself is a work of art. The tour I took, in German, about the life of the Vikings was so-so to useless (if you have watched Vikings or Valhalla, then you don't need to take the tour (not worth the money... it costs extra).
Jonathan B — Google review
I visited Moesgaard Museum on a weekday, and it was absolutely fantastic. You can easily spend many hours here, both indoors and outdoors. The surrounding nature is stunning, and the museum itself is a true gem for anyone interested in history and architecture. A highly recommended place to visit – I would gladly return🤩
Annette P — Google review
Super interesting museum, huge place with lots of different depictions and quite a bit of story behind every corner of it. Would recommend dedicating a full day to it as there is a lot to see. The Grauballe Man, which is a bog body older than 2000 years, is really a special thing to see.
Zoran G — Google review
Absolutely worth visiting — one of the best museums I’ve ever been to (and I’ve been to many). You can’t get the real feeling just by looking at pictures; you need to hear, touch, and explore here. I agree that it might not be the best choice for small children, but with enough time, parents can still make it interesting for them. Plan for at least five hours (or more), and it’s a good idea to take a few breaks — or even split your visit over a couple of days. It would be great if there were a playground, like in IKEA, where parents could leave their kids for a couple of hours. I don’t expect to find German or other translations in every museum, so I’m very grateful that everything here is translated into English. Thank you for the great work! We’ll definitely come again, and I’ll be recommending this museum to my friends.
Tetyana M — Google review
A wonderful and fascinating place — a must-see! I would give 5 stars, but there’s no section suitable for small children, which makes it a bit difficult for families with young kids.

Really pleasantly surprised with how fun this museum was. I took my two kids, who are 9 & 11 and they absolutely loved it there! There are so many activities that you don’t have time to get bored. Very interactive and educative. It costs 110dkk to get in but for 130dkk you can get a season pass, so it was a no brainer! Already looking forward to going back as we didn’t have time to try everything after our 4 hour visit!

Historic Sites
Industrimuseet, established in 1977, is a Labor, Crafts and Industry Museum that narrates the industrial progress in Horsens since 1850. Despite being primarily in Danish, it offers an immersive experience of old Danish professions and living. The museum showcases historical industrial processes on-site, including workers' households from the 1920s to 2000. Visitors can explore shops, apartments, machine areas, and workshops without any restrictions.
Unexpectedly great museum! It offers all kinds of historical industrial processes on site, including the households of workers, which were really great. Ranging from the 1920ies till 2000. They created exactly the atmosphere of the ages they describe. The greatest thing is that you can enter in the shops, the apartments, the machine areas and all workshops. No alarms ringing, no worries that one would steal an old Abba album! Amazing feeling to be back in those times! Very spacious outdoor area and great industrial playground. Suitable for young until early teenager age. Cafe looked good, but we did not get to enjoy it as we were absorbed in the museum one needs at least two to three hours to really enjoy it. Very much worth to visit!

We had a great time. The fact that there was such a variety of exhibits and almost everything was very hands-on really kept our kids' attention. We ended up staying for almost 4 hours. There was room to have a packed lunch - indoors, too, which was particularly useful on the day of our visit. Free parking right next door was also great.

Nice area near Horsens harbor and marinara showcasing factory machines from the early 1900s, workers living areas, textile industry, printing presses, shoe making, Nimbus motorbikes and an old bank. Ice cream, free parking, picnic areas and toilets available.

wow the coolest place ever, they have steamengines, diesel, generators, press machines, even stone press in action, phone history, radio and tv history, schools , workshops, and a nimbus section too, all people you meet there are super friendly and love to talk and show you stuff, much much recommended, kids under 18 are free

Interesting place. Seems on some moments as you are in smaller Old Town Aarhus. Cool part is that they actually start some of the machines while visitors are in the museum.

FÆNGSLET, a former state penitentiary turned museum, offers interactive exhibits and guided tours led by former inmates. The prison's unconventional history includes prisoners freely roaming in the evenings and working in workshops during the day. Additionally, the venue hosts concerts within its walls for a unique music experience.
We came here during the medieval festival around August every year. They made it looked it really during the medieval era. There were plays, dances and activities for visitors to try. Plenty of drinks and Foods also to taste. Kids will definitely enjoy here ada there were many activities for them and some playgrounds. With plenty of parking space but better to be early as it gets full after lunch already.

This prison museum was incredibly interesting and left a deep impression. I found every section engaging, with new and informative displays around each corner. The basement was the most impactful part for me — especially the photo of a former prisoner, which really stayed with me. Most of the written information is available in English, making it easy to follow along. However, the films are all in Danish, so keep that in mind if you don’t speak the language. Overall, a powerful and well-designed museum that I definitely recommend visiting.

It was okay but we had smaller children and it was not very interesting for them. The biker gang stuff, the contraband search game and the escape tunnel were good though and I would still recommend it if people have the time.

Amazing history museum in an old prison. It guides you through history of Danish penal system and engages you with stories of Danish criminal underground and increduble jailbreaks.

Himmelbjergtårnet, also known as Himmel Mountain, is a popular destination in Denmark with easy trekking trails and clear signage to guide hikers. It is accessible from Ry station, although transportation options are limited. According to Danish legend, it was once the dwelling place of gods. The mountain offers stunning views and has been cleared of trees on some slopes to provide panoramic vistas of Silkeborg lakes.
One of highest natural places in Denmark. They have removed trees from some slopes to enable nice views towards Silkebork lakes.

Museum Jorn in Silkeborg is a cultural gem nestled in the heart of Denmark, showcasing the works of renowned Danish artist Asger Jorn. The museum features a diverse collection with changing exhibitions of global modern art, including pieces from the COBRA group and artists like Alechinsky, Appel, Picasso, Raveel, and Roel D'Haese. Set amidst picturesque surroundings by the river Gudenaen and lush forests, the museum offers visitors a serene experience.
Really beautiful museum. Didn't know about this artist but thanks to the museum, I have come to learn about him. Highly recommend if you need something to do. It was perfect for a rainy day. There's a café and museum store.

Museum Jorn is a quiet and small museum. It can be an enjoyable stop for those interested in Asger Jorn’s style. Some of the works are quite interesting and unique, and overall, the museum has a different kind of atmosphere. If you have time in Silkeborg, it’s worth a visit.

AQUA Aquarium & Wildlife Park is a small yet charming establishment that showcases Danish habitats through its interactive aquarium and park, featuring various native animals and nature exhibitions. The environment is cozy and geared towards children with an excellent playground that includes educational water machines. In addition to the fish, visitors can also see otters, beavers, and other cute animals in the mini zoo area. The premises also offer food options at their cafe.
A fun place with nice exhibits and many interesting and cool animals to observe. Information is also displayed nicely and in an easy-to-learn format. A couple of hours at minimum, even half a day can be spent here with ease.
Máté S — Google review
♿ Entrance = Yes ♿ Parking = Yes ♿ Building = Yes ♿ Elevator = medium size There are many parking lots in front of the building where you can park and the entrance is big enough for wheelchair users. The main building has a souvenir area, AQUA and outside there are several animals and a massive playground. The Aqua building is a bit of a let down if you don't speak danish. Most of the floors are only in the danish language. The outside has like 19 different animals and every hour some of the animals are fed by the zookeeper's. They are also telling more about the backstory of the animal. The entire park is accessible by a wheelchair but the only thing you may want to keep in mind that the sand walking path can be soft at times beEventually you will come across a big water playground for the kids and I'm talking around the size of one animal place, which makes This place amazing for kids if they have swimming clothes. One thing I don't understand is why the snacks and the ice cream shop is only open on the weekend. They are missing out on a lot of money by having the shops closed because of the kids and the big playground. Most families have 2+ kids. They have free WIFI. I have seen everything in 3 hours but it may be possible for you to do less making it debatable if the entry price seems fair or a bit too expensive (especially if you don't understand the danish language in the AQUA)
Crafo — Google review
It is not that big but the water play is very amazing. They called it a aquarium zoo but not much fish nor not much animal Instead the design for water plan is very nice, based on the environment of the beaver, which is the animal you see. Their website can improve on more info on English and also let parents know to bring bathing suits
Hector W — Google review
Go on a sunny day if you have children — then it’s probably a 5-star place to be. Most of the park is outdoors, and they have a big playground, which is fantastic for kids. Everything is based around water mechanics, so bring some swimwear! Why it was a 3-star place for us: we don’t have children (yet), so we came for the animals and to learn something. In the aquarium, as a foreigner, you’ll need a good internet connection for Google Translate because everything is in Danish… The upper floor looked educational, but I had no idea what it was trying to tell me. I found one monitor that could switch to English, but it failed to load. Outside, there is some English on the signs, which helped a bit. The otter exhibit is so overgrown with vegetation that, with a bit of luck, we saw one — but it ran away immediately. The beaver exhibit was the best part! One of the beavers was swimming while the others, including a few babies, were sleeping — it looked really cozy! All the animals are native to Denmark, so don’t expect any fancy, bright-colored fish. There’s a small parking lot in front of the aquarium. You’ll need some luck to find a spot there.
Justin — Google review
Nice local fauna, animals, and fish display. Many places for children to play, places to eat, and picnic areas.
Alise P — Google review
This place is a hidden gem, especially for anyone interested in local Danish nature. The focus on fauna from the Gudenåen area is both educational and fascinating, and the otters, racoons and beavers are so cute. You can watch the otters being fed and hear how they get there. They also do rescue work and take care of otters needing help. The staff are friendly and welcoming. While the aquarium seems to cater mainly to families with young children, it’s just as enjoyable for adults visiting solo. The eel exhibit, in particular, is both intriguing and a little eerie, making it a standout experience. The location itself is stunning, set in a beautiful area perfect for a peaceful walk by the lakes and river afterward. It's well worth a visit!
Alpár I — Google review
Exhibit for the fish is a bit limited but combined with garden outside makes it worth coming here with children. Also there is a good walking trail along side the lake. Café Dråben is where its extremely disappointing. I dont think the fault is with the teenage girls doing the cooking but rather the ingredients and how the girls were taught to prepare food. One of the worst salads i ate in my life.
F S — Google review
Amazing experience! Instead of going and seeing the standard 'zoo setup', use the experience to see what cute creatures and other animals are living in the forests, rivers here in Europe. Easy to get there, by car or train (I travelled from Aarhus by train). Tickets cost cheaper if bought online and I suggest visiting the centre in morning, around 10:00 then the animals haven't had their breakfast yet and are more active and visible. Timewise - and hour is enough, in case you are in rush, if not, then you can enjoy the park for longer time, there was a space dedicated for children and areas where you can sit down and rest for a while, if needed. Recommend!

The Økolariet is an interactive museum with a focus on sustainability. The exhibits highlight topics such as biodiversity and recycling, providing valuable insights into how to save energy and recycle both organic and plastic waste. It's a great place for families and friends to learn about nature and the environment while having fun. The museum offers engaging videos, games, quizzes, and other educational resources that are ideal for children and young people who want to understand the current issues surrounding climate change.
probably the best interactive, science museum I have ever been to! and it’s free! Me and my sister had so much fun really. it’s a shame that not everything can be translated to english, and because of that we didn’t really understand a lot of texts. every exhibition is made so well, the marine one left us speechless!
Wiktoria S — Google review
The science museum is free to enter and you could certainly have a great time in here. The museum seems to be more targeted for a younger audience than for adults who aren't parents. Parents will probably have a good time here with their childrens. I have not seen all of it and left early as I felt like it wasn't meant for me but for kids. Therefore I gave a 3 / medium rating as I didn't saw everything. The place is wheelchair accessible and bad walkers, their is an elevator for those who needs it too. There are several staircases throughout the building and rooms each with their own display. Some rooms are harder to access for wheelchairs users. Make sure to visit this place if you have children or early teen with you!

Sights & Landmarks
Jelling Mounds, Runic Stones and Church is a historical site in Denmark that features two runic stones raised by Gorm the Old and Harald Bluetooth. The larger stone details Harald's conquests and the conversion of Danes to Christianity. These stones are located near a church, protected by glass casing. Visitors can explore the rich history of the area and take a leisurely walk along the promenade.
We had a lovely afternoon at Jelling, looking at the museum and the surrounding area. I recommend 2 hours for everything. It is relatively easy to get there from Copenhagen by train, but book train tickets in advance. The area has been beautifully restored and maintained. The museum is also worth visiting as it gives a very good history of the royalty in Denmark.
Annika T — Google review
Give yourself at least 60-90 minutes to take it in. See the church in the back, we were lucky to hear the organist playing. Many families here with hands on activities. Take a while to explore and read the markers for explanations. Good gift shop too.

Great for a day trip! The museum was very interactive and easy to understand, but not boring or too simple. The staff also was very friendly and helpful. They had information material in Dutch, German and English ready so we also had no language barrier. The exhibition was both in Dutch and English. The gift shop also had a variety of nice goodies
Finley H — Google review
There is a big hill next to a church that you should and can't ignore when you are visiting there. It's a good relaxing sight but the only way to get up on the top of the hill is by walking on the staircase next to the church. There is no flat road, so if you are a bad walker you may want to think twice if you want to go upstairs. There is no bench or sitting place on top of hill. There are some big runic stones Infront of the church you can inspect or Walking over the peaceful graveyard.
Crafo — Google review
Recommended 👍 The Jelling stones (Danish: Jellingstenene) are massive carved runestones from the 10th century, found at the town of Jelling in Denmark. The older of the two Jelling stones was raised by King Gorm the Old in memory of his wife Thyra. The larger of the two stones was raised by King Gorm's son, Harald Bluetooth, in memory of his parents, celebrating his conquest of Denmark and Norway, and his conversion of the Danes to Christianity. Trapholt always puts on very interesting exhibitions and Feel me is well worth a visit. Daniel Wurtzel's piece Air Fountain in particular makes the trip exceptional but there are many other wonderful works included which means that you should go. If you have time and spare cash for a visit to the cafe then that's recommended as well. It may seem dear at first glance but you get value for money with good food and sizeable portions. Don't forget to grab a piece of cake if you have room for it (we didn't 😂). After lunch make sure you stick your head out into the lovely grounds which offer rich beds of flowers at the right time of year (we were there in July), and beautiful views of the sea all year round.
Grith S — Google review
I recently visited Trapholt in Kolding with my parents and my girlfriend, and despite not being someone who regularly visits modern art museums, this experience turned out to be a truly pleasant surprise. Trapholt is beautifully located near the water and has a light, open architecture that makes it feel welcoming and easy to explore. The layout of the museum is very visitor-friendly, and it was a joy simply walking through the space. Many of the exhibitions invited a kind of semi-interactive experience, which made the visit feel more engaging and personal. During our visit, we saw two major exhibitions: Michael Kvium – Skyggeteater (Shadow Theatre) and Mie Olise Kjærgaard – Agile Aggressions. Kvium’s work was, as always, thought-provoking and slightly unsettling, exploring the darker sides of human nature through dramatic imagery and strong symbolism. Mie Olise Kjærgaard’s exhibition, on the other hand, felt more abstract and experimental, and it invited us into a colorful and chaotic universe that was both playful and aggressive, in the best possible sense. One of the highlights of the day was visiting the Arne Jacobsen summerhouse, which is an integral part of the museum’s permanent collection. This full-scale house was designed by the famous Danish architect and designer in the 1950s, and walking through it was like stepping into a living design catalog. The house is a unique example of modernist architecture and functionalist design, with every detail—furniture, color palette, materials, and layout—carefully thought out. It showcases Jacobsen’s ability to combine simplicity with elegance, creating a space that feels both practical and deeply aesthetic. For anyone with even a passing interest in design or architecture, the summerhouse is an absolute must-see. All in all, Trapholt offered an inspiring and relaxed art experience that felt approachable even for someone not deeply immersed in the world of modern art. It’s a place I would definitely recommend—and one I wouldn’t hesitate to return to.

Castle
Koldinghus, located in Kolding, is a remarkable cultural history museum housed within restored castle ruins. The castle has a rich and turbulent history dating back to the 13th century. Despite being partially destroyed by fire in 1808, it was rebuilt in the 20th century, seamlessly blending old and new architectural styles. The museum boasts an impressive collection of artifacts including the Christian IV collection, gold & silverware, Flora Danica table service, and princess gowns.
Again, grading on a curve based on location, but I had a 2.5 hour Layover at the train station and decided to visit this place which is a very short walk from the station. We'll worth the walk. The museum is very well organized and you can feel the history when your there. It use to be a royal residence from what I was told, among many other things. Great staff and they have lockers to store your bags while your visiting the museum. A little pricy, I think that I paid 22 euros, but it was worth it. Good place to visit if you have the time and it sits right next to a beautiful scenic river and walkway with benches to stop and soak up the view.

The restoration of this old castle is unique and worth seeing just for a completely different approach to restoring and protecting a heritage building. Definitely worth visiting.

13th century castle on a hill overlooking the town and the castle lake. It is probably Kolding's most famous landmark. If you want to see the castle from the inside, you will have to spend a lot of money. The entrance fee is quite expensive. You can pay in advance online or on site at the ticket office.
Oskar V — Google review
Interesting mix of old and new architecture. The castle was partially destroyed in a fire in 1808 and was rebuilt in the 20th century in a way which preserved the original building but also clearly showed the modern parts. One of the highlights for us was the Flora Danica table service. Just amazing. The princess gowns were lovely. There was even the possibility to dress up as royalty yourself. There is a cafe on site. There is parking near the castle but the castle is also within walking distance from the center of town.

The Kolding Fortress or "Koldinghus" really is an iconic landmark for the city, It being destroyed back in the 1800's has still had a good restoration. Overall it's a good museum and has a great view on the top with the Hercules Statue remaining intact, it's overall a location worth visiting if you're having a transit through the city of Kolding.

This was under serious renovation at the time we visited. Although looking back at the history it seems to have spent more time like this than not! Was a nice casual look around, the way the modern elements slotted into the existing fabric was nothing short of breathtaking.

Gorgeous building, impressive restorations and a fun corner to play dress-up. This is my second visit but there was a lot more to see than the first time.

Haderslev Cathedral, located in the heart of the town, is a must-see for travelers. It was the first church in Denmark to convert to Protestantism and boasts a unique 3D painting inside. The cathedral also features German and Danish inscriptions and offers services in German. Visitors can witness a weekly regiment turning the pages of a book kept in a small room beside the altar.
This is the 1st church in Denmark that became protestant. They have a 3D painting in the church when you enter to the right. There is a regiment that comes once a week to turn the page of the book which is kept in a small room, to the right side of the alter. This church has writings in German and Danish. They also have service in German.

Beautiful cathedral in the centre of the town. First church to convert to protestant in denmark. Very nice place for travellers to rest for a few mintures. Interior very cool and modern compared to old catholic churches.

Dyrehaven Ved Haderslev is a well-maintained place that is perfect for walking and even suitable for wheelchair users. It features an electrically operated gate and designated paths, including one leading to the Sopienquelle with a note about stairs further along the route. Although sightings of deer and red deer are not guaranteed, it's still an interesting place worth spending time in to enjoy the fresh air, landscape, and nature.
Dyrehaven is an amazing place for a walk or trail run. It's lovely for a walk alone or with friends and family. The view of the fjord is beautiful. The chance of seeing wild deer is very high. There is also a house with tables and benches to sit and eat your lunch pack, a grill under a shelter, a maze in a hedge, and natural playground.

Lalandia i Billund

Holiday park
Water & Amusement Parks
Casual getaway offering cottages with kitchens, plus an indoor water park & 9 dining options.
Lalandia boasts an excellent location with easy access by car as well as free shuttle buses to the main attractions in the nearby town. The layout of the resort is brilliant, offering a sense of privacy and intimacy despite being a family-friendly place. The cottages are spotless and very well equipped, providing everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. There are fantastic attractions for children, including multiple playgrounds, a petting area with goats, and a large aquapark that keeps the little ones entertained for hours. The staff are friendly and responsive, ensuring a hassle-free experience from check-in to check-out. Overall, Lalandia is an ideal destination for families looking for fun, comfort, and convenience all in one place. Highly recommended!

Over all the location is good , pool is good a lot of choices of slides and kids splash pools . But there’s a lot down side too , first day arrived looking good and our room facing greenery side , second day morning suddenly a big crane outside doing the digging and piles of mountains size completely blocked out the view . Literally is a last week return to school time why can’t you guys start doing the construction work after???Basically can’t open up window when is steaming hot inside , as all the dust blow right in and my kids couldn’t play freely outside too . onside shop is decent but I dislike the bakery area where they do this plastic hand glove for every use to just pick up pastries, unnecessary plastic use for environmental honestly . Electricity and water have to pay saperately this is very shocking to me , literally first time experiencing this , on top of that there’s unnecessary clean up charges too, upon arriving I just want to relax but needed to put bedding linen myself and then upon check out have to clean up the sheets again and also unload the dish washer after then only you can check out. Throw every last trash . Or else I don’t even know what are they gonna charge me on??? Vacuum the floor too? Brush toilet too? Very shocking and basically I still need cleaning and not relaxing everyday.

A great place for a family getaway with plenty of fun activities for the kids! The overall experience was enjoyable, and having LEGOLAND within walking distance is a huge bonus. However, the indoor areas, especially the aquarium, felt extremely crowded. It would be better if access was limited to Lalandia guests only, as the high number of outside visitors made it a bit overwhelming at times. Still, a fantastic spot for families looking to make lasting memories!

We arrived from Copenhagen via train to Vejle and bus to Billund - the whole journey was around 3 hours. The check in was very easy as we got sent a code to check straight into our lodge which was very easy to find for our 3 night stay. We recommend you get the golden wrist bands as we definitely got our monies worth from it. Lastly, the facilities are fantastic! Our children were asking when we would be back on the bus back home as they loved it!

Lalandia was a great place to have vacation with kids. But when I lost my bag the same dag, the service desk couldnt really help me much that day. And now still this time I have not found my bag with my gold and cash and bank kard and also my driver licenses.

We spent five nights at Lalandia in the summer and, for the most part, had a great time: the Aquadome was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed doing lots of the activities on offer. The surrounding playground, obstacle course, and two 5-a-side football pitches (with artificial turf) also ensured that we had plenty to do outdoors. Being able to walk over to Legoland and spend the day there was also a highlight. The on-site shop also had a good selection of products and reasonable opening times. The staff there and around the Lalandia resort were approachable and friendly. Sadly, hygiene is an issue (apart from the Aquadome, which I found to be very clean in the male changing rooms). For instance, dustballs were visible around the minigolf course and, according to our friends, the indoor playground too. Also, the communal bowling shoes were not sprayed after each use, which is minging given that people were wearing them with bare feet. The actual accommodation was disappointing. The beds were horrendous with soft, manky old mattresses with signs of bed bugs (I slept on the small sofa for 5 nights). It's beyond my comprehension why the mattresses aren't in protective covers. There were no insect screens on the windows despite a Lalandia leaflet informing guests that mosquitoes are normal there. The TV was dated, so it wasn't possible to mirror my phone to watch a film in the evening. In short, we loved our days there and had a lot of fun. If it weren't for the grubby, uncomfortable mattresses, I would have already booked again for next year without a doubt – maybe even for the March and the summer. As it stands, I'll look for alternatives.

We stayed in a little Lalandia house which was well equipped and clean, loved the Aquadome and spent more time there than we did at Legoland which was why we'd come to Billund in the first place. Loads to do in Lalandia and really close to Legoland, great for children.

Love this place, what a great experience. Everything has been absolutely perfect, from the house to the Waterpark. Super fun Waterpark a lot of waterside and different things to activate the kids with. Even as an adult you will love this place. There's a big indoor miniature golf, bowling, kids area and a lot of things to do. The houses are really nice and well equipped, beds are comfortable and everything is just what you need and want. I will definitely comeback here but next time we will stay longer so that we can do everything included.

LEGOLAND® Billund Resort

LEGOLAND® Billund Resort is a top tourist attraction in Denmark, offering a day of fun for the whole family. The park features themed areas and a miniature world built entirely from Lego bricks. One of its main highlights is Miniland, where visitors can marvel at intricate Lego models of cities and famous landmarks. The resort also boasts an array of thrilling rides, including roller coasters that cater to both kids and adults.
Great for kids and their families. You get the whole Lego experience as soon as you enter. The corridors and rooms are decorated in various lego themes...pirates, knights etc. Table tops, door signs, bathroom tiles all fit the Lego theme. Entry to Legoland is via a walkway from the hotel. Breakfast is good. Lots of options to suit many tastes. The restaurant also caters for dinner as well, with a menu that does offer some Danish food.

Beautiful park, some areas could need a little touch-up / love, but we absolutely loved it. There is something for everyone. I especially adored all the attention to details. A dog bowl in Lego etc. Halloween isn’t really a thing where we’re from, so we were surprised to see the whole park decorated. (Since we forgot that we were going in the week of Halloween) It was a pleasant surprise and made the whole experience feel magical. The prices change when pre ordering tickets depending on date, it was wise to order them with a discount online, the day before we went.

We just visited during the autumn holiday and had an absolute blast on the rides! The atmosphere was great, and we treated ourselves to some delicious churros too 👀 I was also there in summer and had such a fun time - especially on the water-themed rides like the canoe and the pirate boat 💦 Always a great day out! Even during holidays the lines aren’t bad - the longest we waited was about 20 mins. Highly recommended for kids! ✨️
Polina C — Google review
A fantastic place for kids and families! The park is cozy, creative, and full of fun details everywhere you look. I recommend going on a day when it’s less crowded – it makes the experience so much better (we loved being able to walk straight through the queues without waiting). The attractions are varied and suit all ages, from the smallest rides to the bigger roller coasters, and of course the incredible LEGO builds all around the park. It really feels like stepping into another world. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Denmark, and I’d recommend buying your tickets in advance to save time at the entrance.
Alexander P — Google review
This place is so fun my 3 children had a blast. They have many rides that even my 1 year old can go on, providing that we held her in our lap or sat next to her. The rides are diverse, the line ups were not too long. All in all a fantastic experience. Only criticism would be we should have had 2 full days to see everything, it's a lot if you only have 1 day.
Doug G — Google review
We visited in September, and Legoland was a bit of a disappointment. It’s the oldest Legoland, and you can tell - everything looks a bit faded, there’s some cobwebs here and there, and it’s not very clean overall. Inside there’s a great big LEGO store, but the prices are higher than in the Netherlands. It only really makes sense to buy the limited editions - though, to be honest, they’re not particularly exciting either. Overall, if you’re traveling from another country just for Legoland, it might be worth considering other destinations. But don’t forget - there’s also the LEGO House in Billund, and that place is really great.
Olga D — Google review
Fun for a whole day for both small kiddos and adults. Plenty of spaces to sit down and eat the lunch you bring (and you should bring one, because food in the park is expensive). The Atlantis sea world part was very cool with live fish aquariums to look at. We were there on a Friday in October on a mostly cloudy day and it was the perfect amount of people - we only had to queue for the biggest thrill rides and even then only 15min. All other attractions was max 5 minutes wait, so we could even do all rides multiple times if we wanted to. Pay for parking in advance for smoother experience.
Annanas — Google review
Visiting LEGO in Billund is a truly unique experience for both kids and adults who love LEGO bricks. The entire place is filled with creativity, interactive exhibits, and playful energy that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into the heart of the LEGO world. There’s also an exclusive shop where you can buy special sets that are sold only here and can’t be found in any other LEGO store worldwide. One of the highlights is the LEGO restaurant, where your menu comes with instructions showing which bricks to assemble to “order” your meal. After building the required combination, you drop the bricks into a box on the table, where the tiny LEGO Chefs take over—and a moment later, your food arrives on a conveyor belt inside a giant LEGO brick. An unforgettable and fun experience that adds even more magic to the visit.

The LEGO House is a vibrant and colorful destination that showcases the brand's building sets, bricks, figurines, and toys. It offers an exceptional experience of creation and fantasy for both kids and adults. The venue is fully accessible for disabled visitors, with all details thought through to ensure a full day of enjoyment. There is a museum downstairs that tells the inspiring history of LEGO. When the weather is good, the house itself becomes a big playground with 2 hours free parking available.
Our boys grew up with Lego & our visit to the Lego House has to be one of our highlights on our trip (visiting from New Zealand). The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. So much fun in exploring and interacting with the various areas. The museum is a must, taking you back the very beginnings of Lego and we recognised the decades our boys were involved with Lego. A must for anyone who has enjoyed Lego over the years, and if you haven’t I’m sure you will still enjoy it.

A really cool place where you can get inspired and enjoy playing with LEGO. Don’t forget to check out the balconies - there’s stuff to see there too. It’s really convenient that you can access all the media you’ve created there with a code from your bracelet and don’t need to save every photo and video separately. Make sure to visit the Mini Chefs restaurant - you’ll need to book in advance, but it’s totally worth it: the food is surprisingly healthy, and the whole presentation and atmosphere are fantastic.

Simply awesome experience, a lot of various, different and interactive activities. All of the center was very bright and beautiful, people working there are like little shiny stars in this sometimes hard world. Definitely worth visiting! Also it was opened when Legoland was in the November break.

Brief but amazing experience around the Lego House store. We stayed for few hours primarily for having dinner at Mini Chef where we shop around while waiting for our table. I particuarly love the mosaic maker section where you can order for your own customize Lego puzzle/mosaic pieces for you to build. It's really a wonderful Lego Billund souvenir choice that you can take home to build and display as keepsake.
Larraine C — Google review
Dependant on whether you want a theme park experience vs lego-build experience, this is the better of the two respective lego activities in Billund. The activities and experiences are amazing - builds are huge and well curated, the experiences engage all ages and can be accessed post-visit. The venue and staff are incredibly neuro-affirming too, with low sensory areas and kits available at check-in desks.

Absolutely phenomenal, no matter how old you are, this place brings you back to some very special memories. It’s nostalgic and the Lego House museum adds to an already amazing experience. There are lots and lots of interactive activities for the kids and the builds are just mind blowing

Visiting the LEGO House was one of my bucket list dreams, and I finally made it! I was so happy! It was an amazing experience! The place is full of creative activities and hands-on experiences that combine LEGO and technology in really fun ways. One of the highlights for me was the Mini Chef restaurant — such a unique and enjoyable experience. I’d love to visit again in the future and take another tour!

Avant-garde Art in Aabenraa 🎨✨ 🖼 The 125th Anniversary Exhibition of Franciska Clausen at Brundlund Slot is a milestone retrospective of a local artist that was way ahead of her time. The retrospective exhibition at Brundlund Slot - a carefully curated selection among the 2600 works she left behind - stands as both homage and introspection into the avant-garde legacy she etched into the canvases of art history. 🔍 Born and bred in Aabenraa, Sønderjylland, in the early 20th century, Franciska Clausen was a Danish avant-garde artist known for her significant contributions to abstract art. She was associated with the Bauhaus movement and was influenced by Cubism and Futurism. 🏰 Brundlund Slot is worth a visit, no matter which exhibition is on. The whitewashed castle dates back to the 1400s and provides a beautiful setting for its different art exhibitions. The park outside is a great place to enjoy a lunch among the many sculptures, and is free to visit. 📆 You can delve into the reservoir of Clausen's artistic scope at Brundlund Slot until 31/8-25: https://msj.dk/en/exhibitions/a-collage-franciska-clausen-125-years/

My visit to the castle was quite different from what I had expected. Anticipating a tour of the castle's antique furniture and historical overview, I was disappointed to find that it was primarily a picture gallery. With only two accessible floors and the third floor closed, the painting exhibition felt small. The vintage paintings on the first floor were exquisitely adorned, mirroring the beautiful interior. However, the second floor featured modern art that didn't seem to fit the castle's ambiance, leaving me uninterested in capturing photos. The majority of the castle is reserved for employees and inaccessible to visitors, resulting in a lack of preserved history. Regrettably, I didn't learn anything intriguing about the castle during my visit. The surrounding area was compact yet well-maintained, with its proximity to the center being a plus. The admission fee of 85dkk per person felt reasonable, but I wouldn't recommend visiting this castle. It no longer retains its castle essence and seems more like an art gallery that could exist elsewhere.

Beautiful museum from 1620 with history dating back to the Middle Ages. They have have changing exhibitions, currently one about being Danish that focuses on what it was like when south Jutland was lost to Prussia and the Danish people where forced to hide there nationality and to speak German. Lovely kitchen garden and 2,7km marked trail. Children can rent a metal detector and find items in a designated area for 40kr/30min and they get a diploma after. 🙂 Their Christmas market is to be recommended.

(Translated by Google) Not very big, but still with interesting exhibitions. Both the exhibition on manor life and the Fæstedskatten were interesting. It doesn't cost a fortune to enter. There is a nice and well-stocked museum shop. Unfortunately I didn't make it to the restaurant in the basement, but it looks cozy.

Museet Ribes Vikinger, situated in the heart of Ribe and overlooking the river Ribe A, offers a captivating display of the town's history from the 8th to the 18th century. The museum showcases Viking-era artifacts and historic dioramas, providing insights into Ribe's origins as a major European trading center. Visitors can explore finds from local excavations that confirm Viking settlements and trade routes in Europe.
Very interesting museum, very well prepared exhibition. Nice store for gifts etc. Very friendly young staff. We had a very interesting conversation with the team of 2 young men. Always worth a visit.

One of two viking museums in the area and definitely worth a visit. Lots of display cases, dioramas and reconstructions telling the story of Ribe and it's Viking heritage. All of the displays are multi-lingual, Danish, German and English, so good for those who don't speak Danish. There is so much to see that it is easy to miss a section, so take your time, don't rush it! Happy to recommend it.
John T — Google review
Nice museum about Ribe during the Viking age as well as during the Middle Ages. A real pain is that the text is poorly placed in the cabinet, this makes it sometime very hard to read. Also only the main text in each cabinet is in Danish, English and German. All details on fotos, drawings and found artifacts are only in Danish. Yes, I know with AI 🤖 it’s possible to do the translation. But for such an important museum I would have expected everything in these 3 languages and not only the introduction.
Tjeerd V — Google review
Nice place to learn about viking history. All the story are writen in English also (not only in Danish). They have a complete collection to display. My children’s favourite is the indoor playground in basement area. They can play with all the costume and toys that pretend they were in viking era. So exited. Really recommended museum for family. They have big parking area.

Visiting from North Carolina, USA with 4 kiddos (12,9, 7, 4). We loved this museum, it is small but packed with artifacts! There is English on the signs and although not alot it makes for a good pace to go through the museum when you have kids with you. The young man working out the service desk was friendly, helpful and spoke perfect English. The gift shop is affordable and there is also a cafe. The kids area of the museum is great for little imaginations, and kids are free! Great value, good place to see history!

Ribe Cathedral

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Ribe Cathedral, a medieval Romanesque-style cathedral dating back to 1250, is a prominent landmark in the small town of Ribe, Denmark's oldest town. Situated on the west coast, Ribe was founded as a Viking trading post between 704 and 710. The cathedral rises majestically over the town with its 52-meter high tower offering panoramic views of the surrounding area and the National Park.
Ribe is truly a gem in Denmark and definitely worth a visit — whether you’re into history or not. The staircase to the tower starts with stone steps but quickly transitions into wooden stairs. As far as I know, there are 240 steps to the top. From the top, you get a fantastic view of the town and the surrounding landscape — a truly beautiful panorama. On the way up, you can see, among other things, two large bells, each weighing more than 3 tons. The entrance fee is 30 DKK per adult.

Founded in 860. You must see the baptismal font- 1400s, the beautifully carved pulpit built in 1596/7 and the controversial Carl Henning-Pedersen frescos decorated 1983. An amazing space. Plus there are three organs.

there si no fee to visit the cathedral, however, once you are there, definitelly visit tower and tower museum - tickets are available at tourist desk(inside of curch) for modest price and after climbing about 250 stairs you can enjoy rare outlook - since there are no natural view point in the vicinity. parking: prohibited around cathedral food&beverages: no toilets: yes

Ribe Cathedral (Ribe Domkirke) is Denmark’s oldest cathedral and one of the most significant historical landmarks in the country. Located in the heart of Ribe, Denmark’s oldest town, the cathedral dates back to around 1150 and showcases a unique mix of Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. The cathedral is famous for its impressive twin towers, though only one, the Commoner’s Tower (Borgertårnet), remains fully intact and accessible. Visitors can climb to the top for breathtaking views of Ribe and the surrounding marshlands. The church’s interior is equally stunning, featuring beautiful frescoes, intricate altarpieces, and a striking modern bronze relief by Carl-Henning Pedersen. One of the cathedral’s most notable aspects is its history. Over centuries, it has withstood Viking raids, fires, and structural changes, making it a living testament to Denmark’s religious and cultural evolution. The cathedral also houses the tomb of Saint Ansgar, the missionary who brought Christianity to Scandinavia. Today, Ribe Cathedral remains an active place of worship while serving as a must-visit attraction for tourists. Its rich history, architectural beauty, and panoramic views make it a fascinating destination for history lovers and travelers alike.

Ribe VikingeCenter offers an immersive experience into Viking life through its reconstructed settlement, complete with costumed characters, a market, and hands-on activities. Visitors can witness staff dressed in period clothing baking bread over open fires, demonstrating archery and Viking-era crafts, offering falconry shows and warrior training for kids. The center provides a unique opportunity to learn about Viking life in a dynamic setting rather than behind glass.
Second time we visited this beautiful museum, it's really worth it. Cosy atmosphere, friendly vikings who could tell everything about archery, weaving cloth, Norse gods, sword fighting, building boats, etcetera. Especially the church is a sight to behold, completely painted by hand. Nice activities for the children, like wood cutting, minting a coin, etc. Next time we're in Denmark, we'll come back!

Really interesting village. Interesting concept, some people come there for vacation and at the same time they are kind of extras. So you really have a feeling that people live there. Market where you can buy stuff (like jewellery, leather bags that are hand made, real animal skin…) There are also some workshops where you can try to do things by yourself (like wooden nails).

Loved our visit!very nice place to go and experience. Near ribe and easy to get to by car or bike. We saw the live bird show which was a great experience. A must visit when near Ribe Denmark. 🇩🇰

Great family day out! Good price for the ticket and for the activity card. Immersive history at its best especially as many of the huts had a fire going and the market place was full of re-enactors when we visited - that really brought it all to life. Do check out their calendar on the website and consider what's on for when you'd like to plan your visit as they have themed weeks/e events.

Beautiful viking village. I love how even visitors wear costumes. It makes atmosphere even better. Park is big so there is enough space for everyone and it's not overcrowded. We saw a show about viking games and it was very funny and entertaining. There is a lot of different buildings you can see, animals, activities and market with nice wooden and leather stuff. I would welcome larger food menu and maybe faster service but it's a part of danish culture I think. We spend few pleasant hours there with our friends and had fun. Thank you

One of the greatest museums I have ever visited. You can meet very nice people there, they are happy to tell you about the Vikings. Here you can sit by the fire and listen to the stories telled by passionate man dressed exacly like a real Viking. Great plus is that the actors actually live and sleep on the site - in a tent or houses.

The Old Pharmacy is a remarkable store that offers an assortment of unique items. It is renowned for its year-round Christmas cellar shop, where customers can purchase festive goods regardless of the weather outside. Moreover, it serves as a haven for souvenirs, boasting an extensive range of merchandise adorned with the Danish flag. The staff members are welcoming and accommodating. Payment options include cash in Danish Krona or VISA/Master/EC cards.
A curiosity shop the delivers! From touristic trinkets to teas, intricate ship models, christmas baubles and trinkets all year. It's just amazin! Located in a 400 year old building that oozes cozyness and history. It was simply a joy. Go there knowing what you want or without any idea and you will find a choice of perfect things that fit the bill. Possibly the best little small big shop on the planet.

This is a wonderful store to find Christmas decorations, in including a large assortment of candles. The store is very busy on Saturdays, but it is definitely worth the trip.

An absolute gem of an odds and ends store, where you plan to just take a look and leave with a bag full of stuff you never knew you needed in your life :-D Also famous for its all-year-round christmas cellar shop, where you can buy all christmasish stuff even when it's 30°C outside. Also a good place for souvenirs, as they have probably everything you can imagine with a danish flag on it :D Also friendly personal. You can pay cash (danish Krona only) or with VISA/Master/EC.

If you really like Christmas why not celebrate it all year long and why not buy Christmas stuff anytime you wish. If you think that's just a fantasy and dream, like castles in the clouds, come down to earth and visit Tønder to see the incredible manifestation of a Christmas shop all year round. But that's not all, you can get lots of other stuff you might never need but which will make your life so much more beautiful being surrounded by stuff. If you look for a gift for someone and you don't know what to buy, here you'll find lots of great ideas.
