Austrian Open Air Museum Stübing is a captivating site featuring 97 historic rural buildings from various federal states, including houses, stables, mills, and alpine huts dating back six centuries. Visitors can immerse themselves in the past and admire an array of handcrafted items while gaining a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship. The expansive grounds also offer culinary delights and welcome leashed dogs, making it an ideal destination for families.
Before that lovely museum i have visited couple similar museums in different countries. In every country has own unique rural architecture. So it is in Austria. Intresting is walk through different villages and watch buildings. In this museum has more watermills. So water was important. Good for walking. Near museum is parking and rail station.

A full day trip. Nicely maintained area. Freely accessible houses with a demonstration of the life of the original inhabitants. On-site restaurant with great food.
Martin — Google review
It's an absolute highlight! We spent the entire day in this wonderfully arranged museum. There's so much to see; every house has a beautifully and thoughtfully curated interior. It's definitely worth a visit!
Christian C — Google review
An excellent museum showcasing the various regions in Austria. It is on a small gradient, for the route up. With good facilties and an excellent restaurant. As is the norm, it is all in German. The leaflet in English gives you an overview and you can use Google translate on the rest.
Tom ( — Google review
A nice open air museum about Austrian culture and history. There are buildings of homes, schools, Barns, bakeries, stables etc. from all the lands of Austria. They rebuilt these buildings inside this open air museum. Really informing but it would be much better with English translations since internet signal is very weak if there is. We visited this place in april during an Easter market. I really liked the concept, freshly baked bread was amazing. As I understand, they arrange other events such as christmas markets. We spent around 3.5 hours here.
Berke A — Google review
We were three adults that went here and we loved it. The entrance fee of 14, 50€ is not that small, but it's definitely worth it. If you live in the region they also have a very affordable yearly card. You should come here in the morning as you will definitely need the whole day. There area is huge, as every Austria region is represented by a few historical buildings. In between there are lots of activities and not just for kids, but also for 'grown' kids to try out. The whole museum is built into a forest, which makes the visit feel like a walk in nature and since the area is so big, it also doesn't feel cramped. When you come by car, there is lots of free parking spaces. The parking lot is a few KMs away from the entrance though. However, don't you worry, how you'll get that. Of course walking is an option, but it's along a street, so I wouldn't recommend it. The better option is offered directly by the museum itself - a traktor will pick you up and bring you to the entrance and in the evening also back to the parking lot.
Ани В — Google review
Well kept, clean and interesting place. The staff at the counter is also very friendly and guide you well. A potential improvement could be that the printed map that they give out is improved. Currently, it doesn't have labels for all buildings and its tough to figure out where you are. The Internet and subsequently Google translate do not work here.
Aiman S — Google review
If you visit this wonderful place bear Graz, make sure you have all day free.

Traunsee is a picturesque destination surrounded by rocky cliffs, lush mountains, and charming villages. Gmunden, located on the northern bay of Lake Traunsee, boasts beautiful castles, churches, and promenades along the lakefront. The town's 19th-century villas with wooden porches and balconies add to its allure. This area has been popular among both tourists and domestic visitors from Austria for many years.
Never been there, but I flew above it Looks so beautiful! hope I will have a chance to visit

Ilove Trauensee one of the best lake 😄 the water for me was okay 👍 and im glad that my back pain is gone because of the water 💦 🫨 good water 🩷 Highly recommended ⛰️ love the nature also.
Jem's ( — Google review
Gmunden is very beautiful and the lake is also wonderful, which is the deepest lake in Austria. You can walk around the lake, listen to the ringing of bells in the main square, shop at the farmers' market, and have coffee with the locals in the coastal restaurants. Parking is paid on weekdays, but with some walking (on a steep road), you can park for free on the "hill".

Lake Traunsee is one of Austria's best-kept secrets. Tucked away in the beautiful Salzkammergut region, this lake is the deepest in Austria, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and lush, green mountains.

Historical place
Schloss Ort, also known as Ort Castle, is a captivating castle located on a small island in Traunsee Lake, just a few kilometers from the charming town of Gmunden. The castle was originally founded in 1080 and has undergone numerous extensions and renovations over the centuries. Visitors can explore the ruins of this ancient structure or enjoy a meal at the nearby Orther Stuben restaurant. Guided tours can be arranged through the tourist office with advance notice.
Google Review: Schloss Ort is definitely a place worth visiting with its stunning views and breathtaking lake scenery! Located on Lake Traunsee in Gmunden, this historic castle offers a charming atmosphere with both natural beauty and historical significance. It’s no surprise that it’s chosen as a wedding venue—its romantic ambiance and unique location make it the perfect spot for unforgettable moments. A fantastic experience for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike!
İrem B — Google review
Schloss Ort is a hidden gem in Austria, nestled on a small island in the Traunsee Lake. The castle is charming, with its picturesque setting and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Exploring the castle’s rooms and learning about its history is fascinating—each corner tells a story. The serene atmosphere makes it perfect for a peaceful stroll or a picnic by the water. A must-visit if you’re in the area, especially on a sunny day!
Ankita R — Google review
A magnificent site in the Salzkammergut. Definitely worth the trip from Salzburg, not only for the castle itself, but also for the relaxing view of the lake. You can spend a few hours here, walking the trails and stopping at several viewpoints along the lakeshore. Convenient and affordable parking is available nearby. Highly recommended! Take a look at the photos.
Dan M — Google review
Romantic arquitecture at its best. Clear waters. Lovely restaurant on a patio directly at the lake. Free bathroom visits for the restaurant guests. Let your dreams flow and lose yourself in gazing at the majestic mountains. Ah, SO relaxing...
H K — Google review
The castle is very nice and well maintained, but there isn't much to see. Also, there are no English translations available.
M O — Google review
Visiting Schloss Ort was such a lovely experience. The castle sits beautifully on the lake, and walking around the grounds and across the bridge was very peaceful. The views are picturesque, and it’s a great place to relax and take some memorable photos.
Aravind T — Google review
Nothing new I can say about this castle that hasn't already been said. Its a very normal looking Austrian castle but what makes it unique is its location. Its sitting on the traunsee lake in a small island that just fits the castle with a small path you can take around it and get a good look at both the lake and gmunden.

Mauthausen Memorial

Concentration camp memorial site
Museums
Memorial & museum at former Nazi concentration camp, with visitor center & audio tours.
We had an amazing visit to Mauthausen, all is very well conserved and very impactful. The entry is free, and for 5€ you can have an audioguide (without headset, but you can bring yours), but you can also have it online for free. I recommend going at first hour to be alone (which impress even more), because after it starts getting crowded.
Marc R — Google review
Was hesitant to visit due to the history, but so glad I decided to. They have done a wonderful job paying homage to the lives of the people lost. Very educational experiance.
Derek D — Google review
Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for the guidance, explanations and tour we received from Ms. Angelica. It was a stunning experience by any measure. These days, two years after the October 7th event in Israel, and 80 years after the Holocaust, and the world has learned nothing.
אברהם ר — Google review
Very sombre experience, hard to imagine how one human can be so terribly cruel to another. Sad that the prisoner thought it was easier to take their own lives by jumping onto rocks in the quarry, below the camp. Eerie feeling about the place, but so many stories to hear.
DEB R — Google review
One of the most harrowing experiences of my life - coming face to face with the total rupture of humanity and watching the world explode with the same hate again was almost too much to handle. But the survivors and their families, and their optimism, brings hope!
David E — Google review
Was here for the 80th anniversary commemoration for the liberation of the camp, and on a separate occasion, I visited the museum and grounds. The museum is well put together and the exhibits are informative and comprehensive. I was here for several hours but I felt like it wasn't enough to truly absorb everything. The camp is located near a town by the same name, and it always makes me unsettled when I think about how many people lived in such close proximity to the camp during the war, and just kept on with their lives, ignoring the atrocities being committed just a few kilometers away. The town still exists today and is populated. I can't imagine living anywhere near this place, especially given that most of the Mauthausen inhabitants are probably descendants of Nazis.
Natan R — Google review
Very educational and a must visit to learn about the Holocaust victims and history of it. I grew up nearby so seen it during school time already, but the museum and all description have been enhanced by a lot. Also for english speakers no problem as all is also described in English and there is an app with audio guides as well in multiple languages, so everyone can visit and learn about this dark time of the history.

Event venue
The Ars Electronica Center, also known as the Museum of the Future, is a landmark building in Linz, Austria. Established in 1996 and relocated to its current futuristic location on the Danube in 2009, it offers technology-based exhibitions that showcase the city's role as a hub for technology, media, industry, and art. Visitors can explore one-of-a-kind exhibits related to science and technology, including displays on climate change, space exploration, biotechnology, and robotics.
Amazing, inspiring, huge. It’s hard to describe the diversity and breadth of what you can see at the festival.
Szymek D — Google review
This museum might be engaging for children under 10, but for others, it’s one of the most boring and disappointing museums I’ve visited in a long time. I entered with high expectations but was let down within seconds of seeing the exhibition. There’s little of interesting things, most of the time, I wasn’t even sure why I was there. The museum consists mainly of a few screens and wall texts, with at least half of the artifacts not functioning. They could easily create a website, copy-paste the texts, and post the few videos there instead. Overall, the museum feels undefined and empty. Here, you’ll only find what feels like random Wikipedia articles.
Jure F — Google review
Your enjoyment of this museum will likely depend on your interests. This museum goes pretty technical and fairly in-depth about all the available topics so if you aren’t particularly interested in them you might find the museum boring. The first exhibition didn’t suite my interests so I wasn’t interested but the AI part I found very interesting because AI is interesting to me.
Goodguy L — Google review
Located near the banks of a river with a beautiful view. Have a bus stop right in front of it. If while waiting for the bus for a long time with luggage one wants to visit this, no issue. There is locker facility to hold the luggage with lock and key arrangement. Special price on shows for senior citizens. Displays are not that great and informative. Not muchattractive for visitors. Children have some exclusive area for learning and fun.
Karthikeyan K — Google review
Some interesting exhibits especially the quite nerdy section on AI which goes into surprising detail and has some good demos showing how neural nets work. Just beware the 'deep space' show is nothing to do with the universe and more just a kalaidoscope projected onto the floor.
James F — Google review
Absolutely disappointing. There is nothing specific, mostly screens and texts. Better to go to the cinema for the good picture on the screen. I think it was the worst museum I have ever visited. Maybe it is fine for the children though.
Lazzabuda L — Google review
The Ars Electronica Center is a captivating fusion of art and technology. With its interactive exhibits and immersive displays, it offers a thrilling exploration of the digital frontier. A visit to this museum is an inspiring journey into the boundless possibilities of the modern age.

Aquapulco - die Piratenwelt

Water park
Water & Amusement Parks
Theme Parks
Pirate-themed water park with slides, wave pools with music & an adventure trail, plus a baby spa.
Best place for Kids about 4 up to 7 or 8 years old. We had a lot of fun and the 4 years old boy slept very well after the aquaworld-workout. We were there in September. Building, restaurant and so on are little bit old but everything okay.
*rich* — Google review
For the kids a funny place but as adult it's like a reminder on the overcrowded beaches with sun louncher on every square meter. The price is quiet expensive for that what you get. Interesting to visit onetime but not for a second time. There are much more cheaper and nicer places for both kids & adults around.
Robert K — Google review
No surprise it was crowded on a rainy weekend, still had a good time. I'd prefer if the restaurant offered some more light dishes but I guess it's a kid-friendly menu after all
Simon H — Google review
Good place for Family short holiday escape. It was a good experience for the whole family in Aquapulco. Children friendly, the staffs are friendly and always smiles. Inside there is restaurant with a reasonable price (ex. Small salad-you can pick yourself ~6 euro, Kid‘s pack ~8 euro as per 2023). Each adult gets blue bracelet with NFC and red for children. This bracelet can be used to open/close your locker, to access the park, to access black jack „water-slide“ (i think it‘s for safety reason), to pay your meals or beverage in side the park. The bracelet will be scanned at the exit, in case you have buy anything inside. Only one points need to improve thou, On the stairs to the 4 big water slides, It is good when small signs, maybe with small arrows with color (ex. red, yellow, orange and black) to mind the visitors where to queue for which water slide. Iya But over all, it was great! Thanks Aquapulco team!
Ari M — Google review
The place is fun and n8ce, we were just in the kids area, yes i was missing the adults area that exists but it was all overpriced as it is(as opposed to ammade for instance). 6 water sludes, 1 is nothing much but the rest are pretty neat. We were 2 hours only but i guess we could spend 3 hours there, i think a bit more the kids gets bored.
Eyal G — Google review
So many friends recommended, but I was disappointed. Too many visitors in too small space, no free place to left you towels, in some part of pool building its quite cold temperature, whats a misstake for such facility. Nobody to ask how to open cupboard with those chips, lot of them malfunctioning. Any single person of staff dont speak or dont wanna speak english, not a one, big problem with parking and opposed to my previous experience with Austria food facilities, a serious troubles with fryer oil in canteen. I wonder, why it is so popular. And inadequate price. No more.
Jan Č — Google review
Children enjoyed it a lot. The little one (3 years) was a bit bothered my the loud sound of water hitting the objects and stayed in the baby bay only because it was much more quite. It would be good if some instructions are in English as well for those who do not understand German.

Rožmberk Castle

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
13-century castle with Renaissance flair, now a museum with a preserved interior & antiques.
I will not talk about the beauty of the uphill view. It speaks for itself. There are regular tours taking place, but only in Czech. So, I understood nothing. It costs like 8€ cca, and it lasts for approximately 45 minutes. You get a file with the texts in the desired language, and that gives you an idea about what it is spoken about. The language barrier is not tragic at all. The tour is worth it anyway. Coffee and some drinks or ice cream are available from the shop.
Karina A — Google review
No English language tours, they have booklets with basic explanations in English. You can't go through the castle without a tour. Tour is rushed (45 minutes), and doesn't really give time to appreciate some of the amazing art. View is nice, but there are nice views all over the area. Eschew. Plenty of other castles to see in the area.
David C — Google review
The castle is very impressive inside and outside. There are tours every 30 minutes, mostly in Czech but you can get information book in your own language. The young lady who held the tour was super kind and spoke good English, so we could ask questions. You can also pay with card.

Europa Therme Bad Füssing is a spacious wellness center that offers both indoor and outdoor thermal baths, along with sauna and massage services. The facility features various pools including lap pool, large river pool, bubble pool, and massage jets pool catering to different preferences. The environment is peaceful and well-maintained with pools at different temperatures ranging from 27-38°C. It's particularly popular among mature visitors seeking a no-nonsense wellness experience.
I have been there every once in a while for pretty much my entire life and never had a bad experience, staff has always been nice, the prices are reasonable and the place always seemed very clean. I loved it for family trips with up to 6 people when I was younger as well as more recently having been there with my fiancé. With the selection of pools it´s easy for everyone to find something they really like :) Especially the lazy river is always loved! Also bonus points for the super relaxing atmosphere if you´re there when it´s dark outside
Nadine S — Google review
We recently visited the Europa thermal bath complex that left us with mostly positive impressions. Here are some highlights and points to consider: Positives: - The thermal bath complex is quite large. - There are many different pools with temperatures ranging from 18 to 40 degrees Celsius. - It was Sunday and quite crowded, but we were still able to find a spot. - The restaurant was good with relatively tasty food and large portions, though it was not cheap. - The glass walkways between the thermal baths are likely very pleasant in winter, though a bit warm in the summer. Points to Consider: - The indoor thermal baths were stuffy. - Access to the salt room requires an additional 2 euros, which you need to carry with you. - The facility uses an outdated system for managing services. You have to carry heavy keys and money, whereas most modern thermal baths use electronic bracelets for visitors. In these baths, you also need to carry money to buy food, whereas in other places you can pay with a bracelet upon exit. - There are long corridors between changing rooms, and it is often unclear where to go. Overall, the thermal bath complex offers a pleasant experience with some room for improvement in terms of convenience and modernization.

Absolutely brilliant! Very clean, we found loungers on the grass. Take towels. But basically you can take anything you need. The lazy river is fantastic and goes faster on the quarter hour. I saw people paying with cards in the restaurant, but you could bring a picnic. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I’m not sure if it’s officially allowed yet, but wearing footwear directly into the pool is becoming increasingly common here. Normally, people enter the water barefoot, but what I witnessed today was beyond comprehension—five people wearing shoes in one of the smaller pools. When I think about how the toilets sometimes look, I can’t help but wonder if these people even think about hygiene. It doesn’t seem sanitary to me, and perhaps Europa Therme appears to be turning a blind eye to this growing trend. Of course, if it is permitted and correct that such shoes (like neoprene or similar) can be worn in the pools, then I apologize. However, this kind of practice used to be generally prohibited. And to me, it simply doesn’t seem hygienic.

Spas & Wellness
THERME EINS is a relaxing thermal spa with indoor and outdoor hot water pools, saunas infused with scents, and body treatments. It offers a variety of pools with different temperatures and features like massage nozzles and air bubbles. The attached sauna world provides a calm environment, while the dining options include two dining rooms offering local German specialties. Visitors can enjoy a less crowded experience in the late afternoon or early evening.
I have been there every once in a while for pretty much my entire life and never had a bad experience, staff has always been nice, the prices are reasonable and the place always seemed very clean. I loved it for family trips with up to 6 people when I was younger as well as more recently having been there with my fiancé. With the selection of pools it´s easy for everyone to find something they really like :)

We attend the baths twice a month. They are really cool and nice, and they help me with my health problems. However, conversing with the cash desk assistants is always a challenge. It seems like they do not respect customers who do not speak German. Once, they made me pay twice because they had a problem with their system, even though I showed them the bank notification confirming the bank transfer. I contacted the accounting team and requested my money back. Another incident happened on the 26th of December, when I wanted to pay for four people. According to their own rules, employees allowed just 2+2. I understand that every firm can have its own rules, but in both cases the employees were rude and disrespectful. It is very unfortunate.

Very cozy place.Different pools of water with different temperatures. The most beautiful attraction is the artesian fountain with water jets accompanied by music.

I came all the way from London mainly to enjoy the sauna and steam zones, as I have back problems and really needed some relief. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. Even though I paid for a full-day ticket that included all facilities, I could only use the pools. The sauna and steam areas were full of completely nude people, which made me very uncomfortable — especially since there was no clear information beforehand that nudity was expected. I think it’s important to respect that not everyone is comfortable with that. On top of that, the **hygiene was not as good as I expected**, especially for such a well-known spa. Overall, the visit was far below my expectations and left me quite disappointed after travelling such a long way. I really hope the management improves cleanliness and provides clearer information about the rules so that future guests can have a better experience.

We have tried all of the three places in the town and this one is the best and a real natural hot water with minerals. Fair prices and a wonderful cafe-restaurant with amazing choice!!! DON'T forget the bathrobe (Bademantel) to feel there maximum comfortable and to have an access to the cafe! 5 out of 5 definitely!! Thank you, Therme Eins Team! Definitely coming back again from Ingolstadt and Nürnberg!

Prices in the official website are not updated - the 5 hours ticket is more expensive 29€, instead of 19.5€. Reply: This is not what the lady in the reception told us. She said 19.5€ is for 3 hours.
Aviram M — Google review
Bad customer service. I arrive late in the little town, as I booked accommodation nearby. As I learnt that there are baths within 10 min drive, and I love german spas, I went there after 5 pm. The lady at the entrance had no knowledge of the english language and I honestly felt that she looked down on me . I tried to understand if my 3 years old daughter can use the pools as the water has a concentration of sulphur. She did not make an effort, I used google translate. I decided that I should not spend my money where they have no respect for the customer and left. Although this is a touristic town, it looks like this is more for german speaking people, the rest are not welcomed. Horrible customer service, it does not matter what product you are selling, as long as you disrespect your potential customers.

Chapel of the Grace of Our Lady of Altötting

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Medieval pilgrimage church housing an elaborately clothed Black Madonna statue from the 1300s.
Such a beautiful church with a lot of history! Seeing all the picture stories of the miracles, prayers on paper stuck in between the pictures was touching. People still come and visit and pray. Inside, no photos are allowed obviously, but it was very moving. Seeing the Black Madonna was a beautiful moment. We also walked inside the nearby church as well and and it was absolutely beautiful and stunning inside! Definitely worth the stop, full of history in this town, and beautiful!!

One of the most unique chapels I've had the pleasure of visiting. Highly reccommend for Catholic pilgrimages

It was a great privilege visiting the image of the Black Madonna in this remarkable chapel. Traveling at least 6 hours to this quaint little town of Altötting was indeed worth it. I feel blessed and grateful for this once in a lifetime experience. Definitely one for the book.
Gualbert M — Google review
The miraculous shrine of the black Madonna and the oldest Maria shrine in germany, also refers to as Lourdes of Germany. honoured by the visit of two popes, many offerings (metal hearts, artifacts, portraits) are hanged on the walls. this is the center of Bavarian faith and truly a place of great beauty. A must visit.

Beautiful church along German Camino. Take the time to read some of the many images of thanks. Peaceful setting in town square- numerous cafes and shops.
Denis O — Google review
One in small form but it’s large in history and significance. One must visit this pilgrimage chapel if you visit to Altötting.
Naina G — Google review
One of the best mother Mary's church. It's a special place in Germany
Jobin M — Google review
This is truly a Marina jewel and the Marian heart of Bavaria, including the centuries old Gnadekapelle which is the centrally located and small, somewhat darkly lit (but a gorgeous candlelight type of dark!) chapel with the primary object of focus and now ancient Madonna and Child statue which has had an impressive number of miracles, both those proven and those not officially proven attributed to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Jesus through it. I have 2 pictures of the the Grandekapelle and also others of the much larger Stiftspfarrkirche which stands adjacent to the Gnadekapelle. It is also simply exhilarating to stand in the Kapellplatz (Chapel Square) and take in the southern German views. The entire shrine has abundant areas within which to pray and reflect as well as opportunities nearby to do some Catholic religious goods shopping for devotional objects and holy souvenirs. I have now twice been here, and it is a peaceful and reflective experience. May your journey there be blessed!

Fahrrad-Klinik Passau Rent a Bike offers an excellent rental service for regular bikes and E-bikes along the Danube bike trail. The entire renting process, from Passau to Vienna, is hassle-free and convenient. The staff members are attentive, knowledgeable, and supportive, providing helpful tips to ensure a successful trip. The bike journey itself is breathtaking, with stunning sights along the way. It is not a challenging route and provides daily enjoyment for all ages.
My husband and I cycled from Passau to Vienna. The bikes were brilliant and well set up. Prompt and easy to commute with, Cristian has everything ready to go at 9a.m. Prices are very competitive, and I would highly recommend this rental company.
Eithne M — Google review
We had a good experience renting from this fantastic bike hire shop. From start to finish, everything was smooth, professional, and geared toward making our rides from Passau as enjoyable as possible. The bikes themselves were good quality and well serviced — fitted with puncture-resistant tyres that gave us peace of mind, and equipped with Ortlieb panniers - the best panniers imho. Christian, was helpful, flexible and welcoming. He took the time to make sure the bikes were adjusted perfectly and shared some brilliant local cycling routes. His passion for cycling and genuine care for customers shines through, and it made the whole experience feel personal and memorable. If you’re looking for reliable, well-equipped bikes and a friendly guy who goes above and beyond to ensure you have a great holiday, this is the place to go.

This past week we rented bicycles from Fahrrad-Klinik Passau for a day. We booked this about 6 months ago. The service that we received was excellent, and the tourism information that was given to us was very useful. Christian speaks both, German and English. He was a delight to deal with, and very courteous and helpful. Fahrrad-Klinik Passau is highly recommended. Thank you so much!!

My two buddies and I rented bikes from Fahrrad-Klinik September 2021 and was very happy we did. I'm not a easy guy to please and the people here were very professional and friendly. The bikes were in near new shape and good quality! We used the bikes for 6 days and dropped them off in Vienna. We had zero problems with the bikes and would rent from them again.

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
St. Stephan's Cathedral, a Baroque Catholic cathedral designed by Carlo Lurag, is a sight to behold with its gilded pulpit and frescoes by Tencalla. The cathedral houses the largest Catholic Church organ in the world, boasting an impressive 17,974 pipes and 233 stops. Visitors can enjoy organ concerts that showcase this technical marvel while admiring the stunning paintings on the ceiling, altar, and statues inside.
So beautiful. We attended a Christmas concert here and candidly there's nothing that has or will top this experience. It was wonderful. Cathedral is historic and humbling to think how many people have worshipped here through the centuries. We all loved it.

The cathedral has the most beautiful baroque ceiling work. A true spectacle. It's said to have the largest pipe organ ion the world. A concert is spectacular. Walking through the old-fashioned German town is fascinating. The Rhine recurringly floods halfway up the streets. Side streets are cobbled & decorated by local artists.

The Cathedral of Passau, also known as St. Stephen's Cathedral, is a stunning Baroque church located in Passau, Germany. It is famous for housing one of the world's largest cathedral organs, with over 17,000 pipes, making it a major attraction for both architecture and music lovers. The cathedral's interior features elaborate frescoes, richly decorated stucco work, and impressive vaulted ceilings. Situated at the confluence of three rivers—the Danube, Inn, and Ilz—it offers a picturesque setting that enriches its historical and spiritual significance.
Veronica C — Google review
The cathedral was under construction the time we were there, according to our guide St. Stephan is always under construction, it’s all depends if they have the funds or not. Even with a big crane inside you can tell the artwork on the ceiling is very impressive.
Jesse L — Google review
It is a huge cathedral with some of the highest ceilings i have seen in Europe. Seems this place was not destroyed by WW2, thankfully. It is a magnificent structure at the highest point of Passau.
Unimpressed S — Google review
They advertise the midday concert as the unique experience of listening to the biggest pipe organs in the world. We bought tickets for 6 euro each and then at the concert it turned out that the organs have been removed from the church for renovation (and will be away for 2 years!) so all we had was a concert of small mobile organs which was definitely not enough for a big church like this one. The concert was disappointing and it was not fair that they didn’t tell us (and other 300 people) honestly in advance. After the concert the ticket booth was already closed so there was no one to talk to. Good business concept for the church, disappointment for visiting people.

Veste Oberhaus

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Veste Oberhaus is a historic hilltop fortress in Passau, Germany, dating back to 1219. It overlooks the town and the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ilz rivers. The fortress has never been conquered and was once the residence of the Bishop of Passau. Today, it houses a history museum, a youth hostel, a restaurant, and an open-air theatre.
We crossed the bridge, walked up and took the 5 euro bus down. The walk was pleasant under the cover of trees. When the option comes to turn left or right - choose right because it's shorter. The other takes you to a youth camp and you have to walk down. The Museum is a MUST! The best Burg museum that we've visited in years. Seniors 5 Euros and 1 Euro deposit for a locker which is returned and free toilets. The collection is extensive and well curated.
Evi K — Google review
This was an excellent museum. I was there 3 hours and didn't see everything. The room information was in English but individual items in the rooms were not. The museum covers several topics; bishops, the castle, the town, porcelain, people who lived in the Bohemian forest and more. Great views down to the old town and the 3 rivers.
K W — Google review
Veste Oberhaus is one of my favorite stops in Bavaria. The castle complex has so much to offer. There is plenty to see if you do not pay for the admission. There is also so much more to see if you do pay admission. The admission price is nominal and definitely worth it. There is a restaurant called Das Oberhaus that is super. Also, you are permitted to take photos inside of the castle, and this is not permitted at every castle in Bavaria.
David E — Google review
Passau was a stop on our river cruise. The cruise line didn't over an excursion to Veste Oberhaus but it is definitely worth visiting. There are two options to get up the hill. One is to pay for a shuttle at $5 Euros each way. The second option is to walk up the medieval stairs to the top. Takes about 15 to 30 minutes depending on your physical ability. We saw many seniors walking up and down. The tower is a must see attraction because it offers a 360 degree observation deck that allows you to take amazing panoramic photos. The museum has many artifacts and is extensive.
Michael B — Google review
Great Museum and castle, wish we had more time to explore. Otherwise great for kids under 12 they lose interest 30min inside. But I could spend all day. Really night walk if your saying in town.
David H — Google review
I recently visited the impressive Veste Oberhaus in Passau. Perched high above the confluence of the rivers, the views of the city were outstanding. I found the fortress itself to be an incredible historical structure, dating back to 1219, which now houses a captivating museum. The grounds are well-maintained and offer a fascinating glimpse into the past.
Adrian M — Google review
This is a great place to get a bird's eye view over the city. The bus is €10 for a return trip and runs half hourly. There is also a nice restaurant with panoramic views. There are options to pay to visit the museum and/or an observation tower, but you can get good views from the terrace without paying. Well worth a visit.
Carole A — Google review
This is the main attraction in Passau. There is a shuttle bus to and from Romerplatz for 5£. (Well worth the time and effort to get here.) Passau is lovely, but there isn't a lot to do in the town. There is a castle museum with portraits, church-y items, and castle doo-dads. Unfortunately, the castle areas themselves are not open. I was expecting to see the museum, then tour the castle, but that's not the case. I guess it depends on your expectations, but we didn't find the museum to be expansive. There was a few chests, armor, weapons, Bibles, portraits, maps, etc. but not a lot of any one thing. Maybe not being able to enter the castle dampened our enthusiasm. We spent about 45 minutes in the museum, and another 45 minutes wandering outside. There is a restaurant with a great view. Unfortunately, it stays packed, and suffers from oktoberfest syndrome. I've found most Germans to be rather dismissive of the idea of sharing a table. After trying about 20 tables and being told no, we just left. Theoretically you can walk up to the castle, but unless you are an Olympic race walker, I wouldn't advise it. Gorgeous views of the 3 rivers, although one river is pretty dinky. Set aside several hours; more if you want to go slowly through the museum.

Bayern Park

Amusement park
Water & Amusement Parks
Rollercoaster & water slide-filled attraction with regular, family-friendly themed events.
Super Theme Park with Bavarian flair! We’ve been coming for years, and it never disappoints. The park offers a great mix of thrilling rides, beautiful scenery, and fun activities for all ages. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the whole place is kept spotlessly clean. The Bavarian atmosphere adds a unique charm that sets it apart from other parks. Perfect for families, couples, and groups of friends looking for a fantastic day out. The staff is really friendly and you get to enjoy a wonderful atmosphere, while having fun. Bring your food and/or buy there. It’s really worth visiting. We came by car and it take a bit over an hour from Munich. There is plenty of free parking. We always look forward to our next visit!
Inas Z — Google review
We drove 1,5 hours just to visit this park and it was an amazing experience. This park is filled with different kind of attractions, Spielplatz and many seats for the parents to sit down. Great restaurants and many stations to eat or drink something- although it was a bit disturbing we couldn’t pay everywhere with card but overall it was okay. There’s also an animal park! The price, I found a bit too high at the beginning but after our day there, I changed my view because it was worth it absolutely 100% 🤩 And of course, we will visit again because we couldn’t even discover it all in one day ☺️
Veronika K — Google review
Great park, perfect for our kids age and height. Our 4, 6 and 8 year old could do all the rides expect 2-3 rides that they wouldn't have dared to take anyways. 2 rides were out of order, but no big deal. The different kiosks and cafe's may or may not accept card, which is absurd in 2025. So bring cash in case you promised your kids slush 🫠

I has Activ Card, free entry. My family has wanderful surprise. Thank you staff for their care. Again arived.

A park much smaller then I though looking at the map, but it was great. Lots of attractions with a very short walk between them. It’s perfect during summer days as the park has lots of trees everywhere and it’s nice and shady. Waiting times were very short, from 2-3minutes to maximum 15-20 minutes, so we managed to do everything in one day. Food is average, same as in most of these kind of parks. The good thing is that you can bring your own snacks and drinks.
Catalina T — Google review
The place was big and beautiful and the facilities were fun but some of them were very unsafe. For example, the family tube facility was very dangerous and my whole family came out with painful injuries. In addition, my daughter was standing in line for a facility of this type of mechanism, so she sat on this car a little ahead of time and the operator of the facility behaved really rudely. He touched her shoulder and shouted at her to get out of the car and wait 5 minutes as punishment. Really rude. My daughter came out crying and said we will not go back there.
אופיר ז — Google review
We went with kids, this was so much fun 🤩 you have to plan an entire day. On some rides you have to wait in the line as they are very popular. Zou can bring your own foods and drinks. Lot of fun. I recommend this place for family with small kids.
Miodrag C — Google review
Bayern Park is located in the South East of Bavaria 1.5hrs drive from Munich. It’s worth the trip, because you can spend a full day with the whole family in the park. There are rides for all ages, cute & slow for smaller children, but also rollercoasters and a free fall tower for teenagers and adults. There’s also a quieter part where you can see some animals and have a walk through a nice little wood. Prices are fair and you get a lot value for money. Parking is not an issue, plenty of space.

I came here in the middle of March, the mountain was still covered in snow and ice, I got to the mountain by bus, it was Saturday, so keep in mind that the last bus back leaves at 2 p.m., I arrived at the mountain at two o'clock))) I walked back on the road for cyclists, 6 km to the city center. There is also an option by bus to the nearest German towns, the bus to them goes more often and leaves until 5 or 6 p.m. . The ascent was complicated by the weather, but it was worth it because it was fantastically beautiful

Relatively easy hike for wandern lovers! From Lake to tip (one way), approximately 1.5 hour hike. Highly suggest if your in the area. The top has multiple viewing points and surprisingly not as many people on the top as we thought there would be. Weekdays are definitely better if your not a fan of crowds. If you are only up for a small walk, around the lake is also quite enjoyable. Stroller friendly. No swimming, but you can rent a row boat in the summer months. Parking only 3 euros.

Interesting park! Soos Nature Reserve A nature reserve, curiosity and European rarity in one! The Soos National Nature Reserve lies not far from Františkové Lázně. The vast peat bogs with lakes, mineral springs and gaseous carbon dioxide springs are reminiscent of a prehistoric landscape. The most interesting places include a nature trail that leads directly above the bogs along meandering wooden walkways. You can see a natural geological park, a museum dedicated to the local nature, the history of the Earth and an exhibition of life-size models of prehistoric animals. It also shows the flora and fauna endemic to this species due to the specific geological conditions of the soil and subsoil.

Beautiful piece of Carlsbad's region. The way is approximately 1.5km long and along the way there are some pieces of information about the place. It is more than suitable for family and it costs only 90Kč per person.

Sights & Landmarks
The Monument to the Battle of the Nations is a 91-meter-high memorial in Leipzig, commemorating the 1813 battle where Napoleon was defeated. It features a viewing platform and a history museum. Leipzig offers diverse attractions such as the Leipzig Book Fair, Bach Festival, cultural events, green spaces like the Riverside Forest and botanical gardens, and landmarks including the Bach Museum and St. Nicholas Church.
The Monument to the Battle of the Nations (Völkerschlachtdenkmal) is an absolute must-see in Leipzig. Towering at 91 meters, it commemorates the historic 1813 Battle of Leipzig, one of the largest conflicts in European history, where Napoleon’s army was decisively defeated. This striking monument is not only a symbol of resistance and unity but also a masterpiece of early 20th-century architecture. Surrounded by a tranquil reflecting pool and parkland, the monument offers an awe-inspiring exterior and an equally impressive interior. Visitors can ascend to the top for panoramic views of Leipzig and explore the solemn halls, giant warrior statues, and crypt-like chambers that leave a lasting emotional impact. Its grand scale, peaceful atmosphere, and deep historical significance make it one of the most important landmarks in the city. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or simply a curious traveler, this site offers a unique and unforgettable experience. Clean, well-maintained, and accessible, the Völkerschlachtdenkmal is more than just a monument—it’s a place of memory, reflection, and beauty. If you're visiting Leipzig, this iconic site belongs at the top of your list.

This amazing monument is a powerful reminder of the past and history. You can really feel the strong emotions when you’re there. Be prepared for lots of staircases—there are more than 350 steps, and some of them are in narrow, tiny hallways. It’s definitely not for claustrophobic people, but there’s an elevator that takes you up part of the way, though it doesn’t reach the top. It’s a great place to visit during the summer or spring when the weather is nice!

A stunning monument that witnessed through its history empires, kingdoms and republics coming and going…. A must see by everyone who loves history! Fabulous views to the city as well as relaxing beautiful park!

Great experience with a rich history. I chose a non audio self tour and would highly recommend this. It's a place of reflection and would rather go undisturbed. The staircase to the top is steep though. Just so you know 😉

If you had only one thing to do in Leipzig, please visit this place. This monument is the tallest in all of Europe and it commemorates the war that broke Napoleon. No tickets required
Paul T — Google review
This intense and impressive monument is a MUST SEE if you are in Leipzig. The scale is stunning and is reminiscent of the Mines of Moria in Lord of the Rings. There are multiple lifts but if you want to get to the top viewing area, you have to use the stairs and it is a little walk. No bad, but most people emerged a little winded and sweaty. The sweeping views of Leipzig are great and, if you go on a sunny day, you can see many miles/kilometers in every direction. Highly recommended.
Chad T — Google review
A really impressive monument. It really makes you feel the enormity of the event being memorialized much like the World War I monument in Kansas City. There was a feeling of heaviness about the monument and it made me feel retrospective. A very nice visit. A stroll through the cemetery nextdoor is also warranted.

the monument to the battle of the nations in leipzig is a massive, seriously impressive monument commemorating napoleon's defeat in the 1813 battle. it's one of europe's largest, and you can climb to the top for panoramic views of leipzig. inside, the huge stone figures are really powerful. it's a bit outside the city center but easily reached by tram and definitely worth a visit for its history and scale

St. Nicholas Church is an important architectural monument with interiors influenced by French classicism and distinctive palm-shaped columns. The church played a significant role in the events of 1989 in Leipzig, which led to the fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe. Following the reunification of Germany, Leipzig experienced economic challenges but has since undergone significant revitalization, including the restoration of historical buildings and the development of new industries and modern infrastructure.
Small church but very beautiful. Specially the ceilings. There was Christmas market when we visited.

Very pretty church inside, and amazing cold-war era history to it. In fact I think one of the Stasi has been working in the Church since the wall came down judging by his manner when I visited a few weeks ago. OK so I was taking a photo (apologies as I never realised that taking a picture of a building that is dedicated to a make-believe figure is disrespectful, and I don't remember seeing Thou Shalt Not Take Pictures In My Holy Buildings in the commandments when Charlton Heston brought them forth from high upon a Hollywood hill somewhere), but this guy was just plain self righteous and rude. Be polite, and treat us mere mortal sinners as human beings. We make mistakes so why not forgive us our trespasses. Hmmm....where have I heard that phrase before?

If you're visiting Leipzig, St. Nicholas Church is an absolute must-see. While it's historically and religiously significant, it's also an incredibly meaningful place in the history of music—making it especially memorable for those who love music and the arts. I’ve visited two years in a row to attend performances during the Bach Festival, and each time was a rich and unique experience thanks to the world-class music and the special atmosphere that only this venue can offer. Located right in the city center, the church is easily accessible and surrounded by plenty of other attractions and dining options within walking distance.

OK, I must confess that this is a place with a very specific focus (JS Bach) and purpose (to draw us into the life and music of Bach) - and I happen to be a Bach junkie. Having said that, it is a beautiful church and the Friday/Sunday concerts are excellent (and packed). It is helpful to realize, however, that everything is in German, and that Leipzigers are not as proficient in English as others in Europe.
Paul B — Google review
While it feels strange to “rate” a church, I choose to do so in order to help maintain awareness of the importance of this church both as a place of worship and with its important place in music history. This is, after all, the church where Johan Sebastian Bach’s masterpiece, the St. John Passion, was first performed. During his many years of tenure in charge of the liturgical music for all of Leipzig’s churches at the time, Bach would have performed, directed the choir and written music for this church on numerous occasions.
Reginald W — Google review
It’s a highly historical place for the German reunification. It’s the place where protests were located and German people in the GDR gathered to stand up against the socialist regime. It’s a must see when in Leipzig! It’s free to visit but 3 Euro for pictures. It’s wonderfully renovated and colourful. Sometimes you even have the possibility to listen to concerts.

St. Thomas Church is a Gothic church in Leipzig, Germany, where Johann Sebastian Bach served as cantor for 27 years and conducted the famous St. Thomas Choir. The church has a rich musical history, with notable figures such as Richard Wagner, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, and Clara Schumann leaving their mark on its legacy. Construction of the church began in 1212 and it has undergone several renovations over the years.
As the church bells rang slowly, I looked up at the silhouette of St. Thomas Church and truly felt that I was in the city of music, Leipzig. Listening to Bach’s music in a place so deeply connected to his life felt like stepping into a time machine. I visited last year and again this year, and each time, the experience brought new meaning and a deep sense of resonance. If you also visit the Bach Museum right next door, it will enrich your understanding of both the music and the man behind it. Located right in the city center, the church is easy to reach, and there are plenty of inviting spots nearby to explore and relax.

Bach's church where he worked and lived, and is buried. This is a must-see If you are in Leipzig. The interior is beautiful with stained glass and various carvings and ornamentation. The church and connected buildings are very large. I saw a couple school groups here.

Seeing Bach's church was the reason we came to Germany and it didn't disappoint, at least according to my Bachophile son. It was easy to buy tickets at the door and you could easily see the whole thing in 30 minutes. But very contemplative and it's fun to imagine history's greatest composer walking those same steps. I'd recommend bringing some headsets and Bach albums (although the museum next door had ample samples) as it was silent when we were there. There's a few interesting artifacts from Bach.

I visited this church in March, 2025. I was deeply moved to visit this church, so rich in history and positive energy. Moreover, I felt the timelessness of Bach’s notes resonating throughout the space. It was truly thrilling! 💖

Interesting stained glass and contemporary Bach organ. For those following Martin Luther, there's a window of him with Frederick the Wise and Melanchthon.

So far the nicest Bahnhof I've seen in Germany, always busy with people passing through and people just coming to shop. As it houses so many great stores to shop in over 3 levels with so many things to see and amazing food options. You can't come to leipzig without seeing it as it is the main train station. Even made more lovely around Christmas or as they say Weinachten, as lots more food stalls open up.

Zoo Leipzig is a top destination in Germany, offering an immersive experience for visitors to observe 850 different animal species in habitats that closely resemble their natural environments. From watching elephants swim through an underwater glass wall to encountering black howler monkeys and playful penguins, the zoo provides a diverse range of experiences. Visitors can also explore themed areas such as the tropical Gondwanaland, home to Germany's only Komodo Dragon, and the unique Pongoland featuring various primate species.
Leipzig Zoo is hands down the best zoo I’ve ever been to – just go! The area is massive and beautifully designed, with tons of space to explore. The animals are surprisingly close, and there’s an amazing variety – I saw species I’d never even heard of before. There are plenty of spots to grab food or a drink along the way, which makes the whole visit super chill. The highlight for me was the tropical hall *Gondwanaland* – a huge indoor rainforest with its own climate. It’s seriously impressive and makes the whole experience feel really unique.

Leipzig Zoo is one of the best zoos I‘ve ever visited. Large enclosures. Many events throughout the day. Amazing infrastructure (you can find maps, sign posts, and directions for a tour that leads you through the entire zoo everywhere). They also don’t solely focus on the animals as mere entertainment but seek to inform kids in playful ways about preservation/biology/even physics in the aquarium. Leipzig Zoo also provides a variety of restaurants and snack bars that are evenly distributed across the entire Zoo. I wholly recommend visiting, whether alone or with friends and family. It’s an amazing and informative experience!

Best zoo in Germany especially with huge greenhouse of tropical forest and self moving boats along river with warm climate. Highly recommended for both adults and children alike
Rony W — Google review
This zoo park was fantastic. I would recommend this to everyone. There is so much to see and you should have water with you because food and water prices there is too expensive. WC is free which is very good. And I suggest you guys to go early there, zoo opens at 9 am and closes at 7pm. As I mentioned earlier there is lot to see so you probably will need some rest. And one good thing about this zoo park is that you see animals without any borders and it is kind of crazy but it is safe. So enjoy with your trip everyone.

This zoo is arguably the best in Europe. The animals have the freedom to roam, creating a more natural environment, and plenty of dining options are available. Don’t miss the chance to watch the monkeys and explore Gondwanaland. It's truly a fantastic spot for some quality time with your children.

Lutherhaus in Wittenberg is the former Augustinian monastery where Martin Luther resided as a teacher-monk and later after its dissolution. The museum chronologically outlines major milestones in Luther's career, offering an informative look at his life and religious legacy. It serves as a living history of Christian Reformation and is considered one of the most important museums to visit in Wittenberg. The well-designed explanations by guides and signboards make it a great historical place to explore.
The main Lutherhaus is closed for renovation until 2025. But the courtyard is still open. The Literally Luther exhibition in Luther Museen, adjacent to the Lutherhaus is open. It is an excellent exhibit on Luther's life and his reformation legacy. It also has a great activity section for children on the third floor.

Also, this museum has a largr collection of Luther's writings and pictures. The house also tries to portray and explain the living conditions of that period. The house, plus Luther's sayings as well as the whole collection of objects will give you a better understanding of the life of one of the important figures of the reformation. Highly recommend. Visiting this place is definitely a must! Located at the end of the main street of the historical area of Wittenberg, this place is of extreme value not only because at one of his doors Martin Luther nailed his 95 thesis, but also because his grave is inside the temple, at the back, under the organ pipes. The entrance is free. Take your time to admire every single detail of this treasure building in terms of architecture. Highly recommend. Ask for a guided tour, it will broaden your experience! Also, you can go up in the tower for 3 €, where you will have great views of the city.

This church is famous as the place where Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses in 1517, sparking the Protestant Reformation. Luther's translation of the Bible into German in Wittenberg strengthened standard German and influenced German literacy and culture. This church became a symbol of resistance against the authority of the Roman Catholic Church and received support from German princes, strengthening Lutheranism as a political force.

Bauhaus Dessau, designed by Walter Gropius in 1926, is a highly influential building that showcases the hallmarks of Bauhaus design. The glass facade and absence of visible supporting elements on the corners are iconic features. The Cafe-Bistro continues the tradition of being a meeting place for program participants, employees, and friends. This architectural masterpiece still looks fresh and contemporary despite being almost a century old.
I love this place. This place answered me plenty of questions about the why, the where, the what, the who and the when. It is great to learn about the motivations, learn about the who were these people, to learn about the where and when have the gone after Dessau. I have spent two days and three guided tours and I will for sure come again.
Michael S — Google review
A Masterpiece of Vision: A Review of the Bauhaus Dessau My recent visit to the Bauhaus building in Dessau, Germany, was more than just a tour; it was a journey into a living monument of architectural and educational history. The experience profoundly illustrated the singular vision of one man, Walter Gropius, who, against incredible odds, brought the modern art and design movement to life. It is nothing short of astonishing to consider how he single-handedly managed to fund, design, and create the entire institutional framework, all while navigating the tumultuous political landscape between the two world wars. The moment you step into the building, you are immediately struck by its revolutionary design. The famous staircase, the sun-drenched workshops, and the seamless integration of various functions speak to Gropius's genius. I was particularly moved by visiting his personal office, located in the bridge connecting the two main buildings. This space, a hub of creativity and leadership, felt like the very heart of the movement. Seeing the workshops where masters and students collaborated, and the student hostel where they lived and breathed art, brought the curriculum to life. The building is a manifesto in itself, a physical embodiment of Gropius’s belief in the unity of art and technology. The self-sufficiency of the institution is a testament to Gropius's strategic mind. He devised a curriculum that drew students from around the world, creating a vibrant, international community. He hand-picked a legendary faculty, including Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky, and created a marketing machine to attract global talent. This was all done while facing immense political pressure and shifting ideologies, which ultimately led to the school's closure. Despite these challenges, Gropius’s unwavering commitment ensured that the Bauhaus's influence would endure. The tour is incredibly well-curated, and I highly recommend taking it to truly appreciate the scale of this achievement. The theater, the student cafeteria, and even the gift shop—which is filled with beautiful designs—all contribute to an experience that is both educational and deeply inspiring. For anyone with an interest in art, architecture, or history, the Bauhaus Dessau is a must-see. It's a powerful reminder that with clear vision and relentless determination, one person can shape the course of history.

Amazing! This place was a world leader and is symbollic and of the modern movement in architecture and design in Europe in the 1900s. Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. It has been restored, true to the original design after being closed by the racist regime of the 1930s. Well worth the visit for architects and designers.

Must-see for those interested in modernism and architecture as a whole. You can roam a part of the building freely. However, all classrooms and the entire student flats block are sadly inaccessible for visitors (except if you book a night in a flat!). The shop has a great selection of souvenirs. The workers were warm and friendly.

This is a simply fabulous historic building. Once the home of the revolutionary Bauhaus School and designed by Walter Gropius it stands as a memorial to an innovative school that only survived from 1919-1933 but had a huge impact on architecture and design across the whole world.

Mmmmm I love the bahhaus movement and the art from that time, but the institute itself doesnt do much for me. The exhibitions inside are about the history of the buildin; its beginnings, its time during nazi rule, its reconstruction, and its preservation. Another one focused on the design of one of the bauhaus styled lights. Both were interesting but I was hoping to simply see more bauhaus art (go to the museum for that). The structure itself, while iconic, didnt do much for me either. I think when it was built, it would have been revolutionary. I did love seeing the bauhaus styled lamps irl though :)

The largest house was occupied by Gropius and his wife Ise, while the others were semi-detached properties with identical modular floor plans. Recently rebuilt by Bruno Fioretti Marques, the master house features contemporary elements such as light concrete and milky glass.
Have you ever ask you one of these questions: How architecture influences our live experiences? Who are these greatest modern minds in arts? Why could it happen? You will find a lot of answers here in Dessau Meisterhäuser. Some promises, you will even find answers on questions you haven’t asked before to come to this place.

The houses look great from the outside, but are a disappointment inside. A little film made when one of the houses was first built, showing all the modern devices in the home showed what the houses could look like inside. Is money the prob lem, or do the foundation believe. It's better to show empty rooms?

I wrote a 1000 pages Bauhaus Book after visiting such an amazing creative site … imagine seven of world’s most creative minds live with their families in one place as neighbors. The energy is there since 1926 … it is still giving its creative power to the visitors since a hundred years … thanks to the company and the authorities that helped in rebuilding this world heritage Mecca … Amr Helmy

I came here just after sunrise, more for the light than with an interest to see the inside. These houses are stunning for their time, so influential...

A magnificent monument of modernism. If you haven't been, I definitely recommend it. All the Bauhaus-related exhibitions are worth seeing.

I would fully recommend doing a tour, you learn so much more than you would going around on your own and you are still free to wonder around yourself afterwards. It’s a super inspiring and story rich place to visit. Would recommend to anyone even remotely interested in design and modernism.

The master house has been rebuilt by the berlin based studio Bruno Fioretti Marques in a contemporary way: volume and windows has been restored with new materials like light concrete and milky glass. Inside you will find a permanent installation of Olaf Nicolai with shades of white in the wall and temporary pieces of other artists. You can also see small models of the houses.
