(Translated by Google) We went to see the foliage and were very pleased. It's a fascinating place, a quick tour of the lake, lots of people, lots of families, and there's a hut for drinks and food, as well as plenty of benches and picnic tables. From the parking lots, it's about a 15-minute gentle climb up a wide gravel road. Truly enchanting for the foliage. (Original) Siamo stati per vedere il foliage e siamo rimasti molto soddisfatti. Great place, they have good security. Seems a bit expensive and they limit you with time and that won't even get you to all if the activities.

I love it because there are many trails of varying levels of difficulty, including a couple of very challenging ones for those who are well trained. Kids and beginners also have plenty of options to get the right level of challenge and have fun. Recommended!

Pietra di Bismantova

Mountain peak
Nature & Parks
Mountains
Pietra di Bismantova is a stunning geological formation located in Castelnovo ne' Monti, province of Reggio Emilia, northern Italy. It features a narrow plateau with steep walls that rise 300 meters as an isolated spur from the nearby hills. The top of the plateau stands at an elevation of 1,047 meters above sea level and offers panoramic mountain views.
An incredible geological formation that stands alone in the many valleys surrounding it. La Pietra di Bismantova is a must stop if you are exploring the Appenino Tosco Emiliano
Giulio A — Google review
A truely unusual piece of geology. The hike up is for nearly anyone (no wheelchairs or elderly). Rock climbers, take note. There are also 3 via ferrata. Charming rifugio (restaurant) at the base.
Eugenio F — Google review
What an amazing place. There is only a little difficulty to reach the top of the plateau because of the unstable path. There is a bar at the beginning of the mountain and restrooms also for people with handicap. You can reach the top both using the path and climbing the steep sloops if you have enough skills. As far I can see there is also a climbing school for novice. The effort in order to reach the top is repaid with the amazing POV. Try to believe.
Luca P — Google review
Huge recommendation for this place. Loved the view and the track to get on top (it's just "20" minutes and the only tough spot lasts for like 20 meters very close to the top). It's easy for adults and children.
Valerio D — Google review

Museo del Prosciutto di Parma

Mentioned on

Museum
Specialty Museums
The Museo del Prosciutto di Parma is a celebration of the renowned prosciutto di Parma, also known as Parma ham. This museum offers a simple yet informative journey through the history of this high-quality cured meat, which holds a prestigious DOP designation. The attached restaurant provides an opportunity to savor the exquisite flavors of prosciutto in various dishes at reasonable prices.
The museum was a lot of fun! We really enjoyed learning about the process of prosciutto making. Afterward, we had a tasting at the attached restaurant, which was great. It would have been even better if we could have sampled a little prosciutto during the tour itself.
ZIYI Y — Google review
The museum is quite small and only worth visiting if you're particularly interested in the history of prosciutto. During my visit, I received no assistance with the tour, and the service was lacking when I asked to taste the prosciutto. Additionally, the museum is located fairly far from the city center, and I didn't feel the experience was worth the trip.
Tatiana H — Google review
The museum is fairly simple and straightforward giving you the history of prosciutto (which goes further back than you might imagine!) The best part however is the attached restaurant with very good quality and reasonable prices. This porcine palace is a must for those who love prosciutto. A monument to meat with great gnocco fritto!
Stephanie M — Google review
The pasta was good & the prosciutto was good. The menu is very limited. The place is comfortable & simple & nice. Not many choices in the area.
Dante L — Google review
Stunning surroundings! Friendly staff and reasonable prices at the bar. Excellent tastings too.
Mark G — Google review
It is a great place to learn prosciutto academically! You will be a geek of prosciutto in the end 🔚 A small canteen exists inside the facility. A parking lot is located inside the gate.

(Translated by Google) Terrible experience! The ugliest rental in the area. Unkind and incompetent staff. I rented skis and boots as an expert skier and was given poor material! On the first descent I lost a ski even though the binding was, according to them, correctly adjusted, following my initial concern for correction. The day continued with the skis continuing to come off despite their corrections with the risk of falling and causing damage to myself and third parties. On the last trail I was forced to return on the snowmobile with the police. Once I returned the equipment I was treated rudely and indeed accused of being the cause of the problem. (Original) Esperienza pessima!

An amazing experience! The farm, location, the product and tour was hands down one of the best things we did on our Italy adventure. We did the tour + post-tour snack on the veranda. Tour guide was great; well spoken (english) and knew everything there was about the history, family and production process and methods for balsamic. Load up on balsamic in the gift shop - it’s a great value and will cost you 3x to buy it at home on Amazon (we checked). Highly recommended!!

When it comes to Balsamic Vinegar do you know what “Transfers” are? How about “Barrel Batteries”? Did you know to be certified the vinegar needs to be aged at least 12 Transfers and the barrels need to be made of multiple types of wood? We were stunned at how fun this tour was.. we learned so many things about the art of making world class Balsamic Vinegar. Our tour guides were a wealth of knowledge and explained the entire process. We got to sample multiple barrels and even sampled the 100 transfer “liquid gold”. Now we are spoiled and when we see Balsamic Vinegar in the grocery store we have a much greater understanding. Did you know that 80% of the grapes in Balsamic Vinegar are white grapes? Who knew?

We stopped by after visiting the Ferrari museum and were helped by Frank. We weren’t able to pop in for a tour, but he was so kind to give us an impromptu tour and describe all the products. He also let us sample a variety of vinegars and helped us with many questions while we shopped. We had three kids in tow, and he was extremely friendly and gave the kids chocolates to keep them happy. We left with a great selection of products for gifts and some special treats for ourselves. They have everything from wine to vinegar to candles. Great experience!!

It’s always a pleasure to come back here. Leonardi has the best Aceto Balsamico of the world, piu bello del mondo. Grazie a tutti e special thanks to Giulia for guiding us through.

We decided on going to Modena instead of Bologna to try out the balsamic tours. After visiting this place and one other, this was by far our favorite. Our guide was Julia and she was very nice and informative, when we were making the booking Maria was also very helpful. Bit of a warning on how it may be difficult to taxi to the location but Julia called us a taxi for when we left. We got the tour with a lunch and I believe we chose menu C, it was delicious, we never thought balsamic could go with ice cream. The wine was delicious and overall we could have relaxed on the property with the peacocks all day. If you’re between this tour and any other, I would recommend this one 100%

Fantastic tour of the balsamic vinegar production process. Our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable, and the group size was small so it was perfect. We learned a lot during the tour and had the opportunity to taste vinegars of different ages and fermented in different types of barrels - fascinating to taste the difference between a vinegar ageing in a cherry wood barrel vs a juniper wood barrel! The tour was 9 euros per person so incredibly good value for money, and the shop has a lot of products that will make excellent gifts too.

Museum Ferrari Maranello

Museum
Specialty Museums
Museum Ferrari Maranello is an interactive museum featuring exhibitions, films, and a racing simulator dedicated to the iconic sports car. Galleria Ferrari, the official exhibition center for the history of Ferrari, showcases the evolution of Formula One engines and highlights Shell's contribution to Scuderia Ferrari's success. The museum also hosts a parade of 499Ps through the town center and offers insights into Enzo Ferrari's life at the Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena.
If you are into car, then this is absolutely a MUST SEE place to go. There are actually 2 museums in Modena, and we went to the smaller one first, but this much larger museum is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, and it was WAY more than I or my wife was expecting. I had no idea that it was as big as it is, and can't recommend it enough. There are even interactive displays that you can pay extra for if you want to do them. Definitely go, if you're in the area. It's worth every penny...

We visited the Ferrari Museum in Maranello as a family, and although it’s not the first place you’d imagine bringing a baby, it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. We decided to leave the stroller in the car and use our Ergobaby carrier instead, and that was the perfect choice — it gave us full freedom to move around without worrying about stairs or elevators, and our daughter was cozy, calm, and close to us the whole time. The museum itself is spotless, modern, and beautifully designed. From the very first hall, with rows of gleaming red cars under dramatic lighting, we felt immersed in the Ferrari legend. Our little one, still so small, was captivated by the reflections and the bright colors — her eyes kept darting from car to car, and several visitors stopped to smile at her reactions. Those small moments made us feel really welcome, and staff members were also warm and attentive without ever being intrusive. The exhibitions cover both Ferrari’s road cars and its Formula 1 history. On the practical side, the museum worked well with a baby. The restrooms were very clean, though not perfectly equipped for diaper changes, but we managed without trouble. The only real downside for us was the price: tickets are 27€ per adult. For a museum that takes about one to two hours to visit, it feels expensive, and I think a family ticket or a slightly lower entry fee would make the experience more accessible. That’s the only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five, because otherwise it was a truly memorable and surprisingly baby-friendly outing. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Ferrari Museum in Maranello even with a little one. Using a baby carrier made it very easy, the atmosphere was welcoming, and it gave us a special family memory in a place you wouldn’t necessarily expect to be child-friendly. For us, it was worth it — an unforgettable mix of Ferrari’s world and our own new chapter as parents.
Elena G — Google review
Very modern and stylish museum for Ferrari cars. A unique collection of road, prototype and racing cars from the early years up until now. Rather small compared to Porsche and Mercedes museums in Stuttgart, but that was the only “negative” and hence 4 of 5 stars. Nevertheless, for anyone with petrol in the blood, this is a truly great visit and experience!
Per M — Google review
A good place for Ferrari or car enthusiasts. Is a bit of a trek from Modena, but they have a bus leaving from the station once daily in the morning. Use the link on the museum ticketing page to book a seat. Tickets sold on the bus but pre oiled seats will get preference. The museum itself is well laid out and has lots of cars on display. From the early models to F1 cars. Kids over 150cm can get on the stimulators for a 7 minute test ride. The stimulators are pretty good. Gift shop is expensive but has a few scale models around the 30 Euro mark. You can't buy just one, has to be bought with another item. Magnets, key chains etc are 20 euro so better off buying 2 models instead. An hourly public bus runs at 18 minutes on the hour from a nearby bus stand, takes 45 minutes to Modena. Better to take this than stay till 2:45 when the museum bus leaves. Walking to the bus stand we saw some options for a ride in a Ferrari car outside. Was a rainy day so did not explore around, but doesn't look like there is much else in the surrounding area

The Ferrari Museum in Maranello remains one of the essential stops for any automotive enthusiast — and for Ferrari fans, it’s practically sacred ground. The F1 display alone is worth the visit: an incredible lineup of race cars that showcases the evolution of Ferrari’s championship heritage in a breathtaking way. The collection of special cars is equally impressive, with the highlight for me being the ultra-rare 288 GTO Evoluzione — an unbelievable treat to see in person. However, one negative moment stood out during this visit. A woman managing the foot traffic at the entrance made us wait outside for no clear reason, and her attitude came across as unnecessarily rude. It genuinely took away from an otherwise fantastic experience for several of us. It’s a shame, because everything else inside the museum was excellent. On a brighter note, the gift shop is fantastic, packed with high-quality merchandise that any Ferrari fanatic would love. I’ve been to the museum multiple times, and despite the small hiccup, I’ll continue to return. It’s a must-visit when in Maranello — a place where Ferrari’s history, passion, and spirit truly come alive.

I changed my route on the way back to the Netherlands just to visit the Ferrari Museum. As a designer, I expected something inspiring and memorable, but that moment never came. Arriving in Maranello is actually the best part, with a great view of the factory. At the museum the experience drops immediately. The outside looks messy and the paid parking system is poorly organised. The payment machine is on the opposite side of the building, so you walk back and forth before you can even enter. Inside, the student discount is nice. Upstairs it starts promising with a few special cars, but then you are met with an overwhelming amount of text. The English explanations are entirely in italic, which becomes tiring to read. Text on the walls is printed extremely large and the information next to the cars is placed very low to the ground. It does not feel visitor friendly. The biggest disappointment is how static everything is. There is nothing interactive, no sound design, no immersive elements, no behind-the-scenes look at the design or engineering. For a brand built on emotion and innovation, the museum feels strangely flat. There are around fifteen cars and you are done in about twenty minutes. At the end you can pay twenty euros to sit in a Ferrari for a photo, which feels unnecessary. The shop looks nice at first but the prices are shocking. A cap for €65 and a basic T-shirt for €85, all made in China. For a brand known for Italian craftsmanship, this feels disappointing. I expected a world-class, inspiring museum from Ferrari. Instead it felt like a short and text heavy exhibition with very little magic. A missed opportunity.
Atahan — Google review
Well, it speaks for itself, the museum of the greatest car maker in the world. A must see probably for everyone, not just car lovers. If you go on weekends don't rush to be too early there, there were far less people waiting to go in as we left. The parking lot directly at the museum is pretty small and gets occupied quickly, so use the other one, it's also free and only one street north from the museum. For exiting you need the bar code of your ticket, so if you did not buy it online, don't throw it away. One can take photos in an F8 Tributo at the end of the tour even if one did not book it, it is of course charged. You can drive in an F1 Simulator, I recommend you book your desired time slot for that one.
Emil S — Google review
A wonderful collection and curation of Ferrari. Thoroughly enjoyed reading the write up behind each vehicle. Parking was available on site with overflow parking across the road. Free parking for ticket holders and you just scan your barcode to exit the overflow parking.

Pushstart srl offers a variety of packages to suit different budgets, but the track experience comes highly recommended. Customers have praised the ease of booking and the enjoyable driving experience with instructors like Antonio. Some have opted for road drives instead of track experiences and found them to be unforgettable, with instructors like Richard making the drive exciting and fun. The opportunity to push the car within reason on scenic routes outside the city has been highlighted as a worthwhile splurge, providing an exhilarating experience for couples or individuals.
The shop give us the opportunity to rent exotic and sophisticated cars. I had an amazing experience to be driven inside a Portofino Ferrari and my driver (Pepe if I am not wrong) was great and explained everything about the city to me. My friend drove a Lamborghini Huracan and for him was the best experience ever and his instructor was amazing and told him the best tips how to drive around the city. We really recommend to go there and check the cars to rent them for some time and enjoy your ride.
Jaqueline W — Google review
We did the 60 minute drive in the Portofino. Since we were in the home of Ferrari it is almost mandatory that you need to drive one, so we did. I knew it was a “street drive” and not on a track so we would not be driving the car like it wants to be driven. That said, the experience was less than expected and after about 20 minutes I settled in and accepted that I was driving a $250,000 car at a leisurely pace on unfamiliar country roads with lots of potholes, bike riders and slow vehicles. As many have said in other reviews, we did stop the car on a somewhat long straightaway and wait for the traffic in front to move away a bit so we could “floor it” and feel the power.. that was fun, but still just a few seconds and in a straight line. So, with my new mindset it was a fine experience to say I drove a nice car in Italy. Was it worth the cost? That is subjective and to me it was significantly more fun to drive the 458 on a closed track in Las Vegas than it was to do this, and less expensive.
Lisa W — Google review
I think those people are the best! All nice and calm, supervisor let’s drive freely and responsibly , I’ve tested a Huracan Performante and pushed it to the limits! It was an awesome experience! Definitely will repeat the next time I am in Maranello!
Sam H — Google review
They actually let you floor it if you take the 20-minute session or above, which was a big surprise for me! The Portofino was the closest thing to teleportation i’ve ever experienced and it’s the “slowest” car they provide, if you can even say that about a Ferrari. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. My instructor was incredibly patient with my questionable shifting skills, and I really appreciated that. You can tell they truly care about the experience and take real pride in the fact that these machines are made in Italy. Recommended for anyone traveling to Emilia.
Michail L — Google review
It's pricey but if you like fast cars I would 100% recommend going for a drive in one of their available cars. They have multiple options for how long the drive is and what you can see. You sit in a car with a very calm and nice instructor who knows exactly where you can give gas and take some corners. They also have a nice collection of model cars and legs car sets!

It was the experience of a lifetime, Stefano, my instructor, was so informative, relaxed, and made me feel at ease with the experience. They also let you push the car on the road which was incredible. Definitely recommend it as I think it's very reasonably priced.

Rocca di Vignola, also known as the Fortress, is a significant symbol of the town and was built in 1963. It's open to visitors during specific times and offers free entry. The castle is a popular attraction and is considered very photogenic. While it may be slightly damaged, it still holds historical significance and is worth a visit. Visitors can enjoy a free guided tour by booking in advance on their website.
It's always a pleasure that you come back home for your family and take some time to look to the Castle.... Is a piece of soul I take in London and around the world with me always . Tornare a casa e prendere del tempo per andare a vedere la Rocca... Riscalda sempre il cuore.

Awesome castle with great artwork. Super fun to tour and immerse in the colors and pictures. Great opertunity and a must stop if in the area and have time. They do close for a mid -day period (like a lot of places), but if you wind up in. That gap, the Castello Restaurant across the street is a great stop for a bite and a caffe while you wait for them to open back up.

Vignola is a quaint little town near Modena worth visiting. A nearby public parking lot is perfect starting point for the tour of old town. Vignola castle is a must visit. An imposing castle is free to enter and very photogenic. There was quite a crowd on our visit on saturday. I enjoyed walking the old streets more than visiting the castle, I guess you get quickly spoilt in this part of Italy with many historic sites in bigger cities.

The Lamborghini Automobile Museum, located in Sant'Agata Bolognese, is a must-visit for car enthusiasts. The museum showcases an impressive collection of Lamborghini cars, including unique one-offs and scaled-down models. Additionally, visitors can book factory tours to get an inside look at the production process.
An unforgettable experience. The Lamborghini Museum and factory tour are definitely worth it. Seeing the history, design, and raw power behind these machines up close is something special. The factory visit adds another level — watching the craftsmanship in real time is impressive and inspiring. Just one thing: there’s no parking. You’re asked to park on nearby side streets. We were lucky to find a spot, but come on — you build cars… at some point, you have to park them. Then again, maybe that’s a problem even Lamborghini owners face too often. All in all, highly recommended. A must for any car enthusiast.

A Mecca for car enthusiasts that everyone should see when visiting Italy. Don't expect to visit a museum, because this is not really a museum, but a showroom dressed up as a museum. We didn't get to visit the factory because they were already sold out. I already have a car of that brand, so I would have loved to have visited the factory. The visit will easily take about 30 minutes. The property also has a small LamboStore hidden on the other side of the reception, be sure to visit there too.

Very cool and stylish cars. Always wanted to take a closer look at them. Overall, I liked everything, but the museum is more like a car showroom where you pay for admission. The cars are just lined up on 2 floors. We visited 3 museums/collections that day. This one was the least pleasant in terms of presentation. Honestly, we expected more. Although Lamborghini is cool!

Wonderful experience, the lady at the ticket office was so friendly and informative. Some absolutely beautiful cars, a true piece of Italy. Nice to see that the museum changes, cars actually get moved around. Highly recommend if you love cars.

Nice place not so many cars. Classic icons: Miura, Countach, Diablo, and Murciélage Modern models: Aventador, Huracán, and limited editions like the Centenario and Sian Concept and prototype cars showcasing Lamborghini’s innovation Interactive exhibits on design, aerodynamics, and carbon fiber technology Factory Tours You can combine your museum visit with a guided factory tour, which lets you see cars being hand-assembled — a highlight for enthusiasts. Would you like me to plan a 1-day itinerary to visit the museum from Bologna or Modena.

The Lamborghini Museum in Sant’Agata is a must-visit for anyone who loves the brand’s most extreme creations. The highlight is definitely the collection of HyperCars — stunning machines that showcase Lamborghini’s bold design language and engineering at its wildest. The lineup of classics is also a treat, offering a glimpse into the roots of the raging bull. That said, the museum itself is on the smaller side, and I found myself wishing there was a bit more depth on the company’s history and evolution. A few more exhibits or storytelling elements would have really rounded out the experience. Still, the cars that are there are absolutely worth the trip, and I genuinely enjoyed it. One practical note: the car park is a bit of a walk from the entrance, so plan a few extra minutes. Overall, a compact but thrilling stop for any Lamborghini fan.
RR C — Google review
It was a very interesting visit. There was a lot to read about each car and the whole story. 45 minutes wasn't enough for me to see, take pictures and read everything, but I also booked the facility and it was very interesting indeed. Each vehicle had their features and fun fact to read. When I was near the museum entrance I heard the staff tell to other visitor the factory visit was full, so if you are willing to come this far for a visit you definitely should book the visit ahead.

What an amazing experience this was to get a factory tour of the Urus line. To see how they integrate technology and help their employees work easier and not demand more out of them. Was incredible! I would highly recommend coming here and doing the factory tour and museum combination. You learn so much, and the experience alone is it's lasts a lifetime.

Santuario Madonna di San Luca is a stunning hilltop Roman Catholic sanctuary church in Bologna, Italy. The baroque-style church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and features a beautiful cupola. Visitors can embark on a scenic CAI trail that starts in Bologna and follows the arcades of San Luca, offering breathtaking views as it passes through Casalecchio and ends in Sasso Marconi at the Ponte di Vizzano.
The road until there on foot is pretty exhausted but that won't really matter when you arrive there. The views over the city are breathtaking, the sanctuary is well preserved, the entry is free and the garden is very beautiful and well maintained. In case you need there is a place where you can top up your water bottle, you will need it until there . The road until there is underneath some columns and the entire road is safe from rain or sun. There is also a paid bus that can take you there, from a private company. Up there there is only one restaurant which is good.

Though I didn't get in as it was already late to get in nor ask for information. The route walking there is mostly for sportive people. The stairs, steep hill walking there made me regret going there but was the most rewarding experience ever seeing the church. A lot if money is needed to maintain it as already peeling off.

Prepare for a long walk and a steep climb - but it’s well worth it for the views and to visit the interior. I didn’t know much about it before visiting, but even though it was a hot day, and there were many many steps - I still enjoyed it. The interior is absolutely beautiful, and it’s very peaceful and serene to sit inside.

The Portico di San Luca Walk is a stunning and memorable pilgrimage from the heart of Bologna to the Basilica of San Luca, perched atop Colle della Guardia. This unique covered walkway, or portico, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the longest in the world, stretching for almost four kilometers. As you embark on this journey, be prepared for a challenging yet rewarding ascent. The walk begins near Porta Saragozza and is a gradual incline at first. However, it soon becomes a steep climb, making decent footwear an absolute necessity. The path is paved, but the continuous uphill gradient demands sturdy shoes to ensure comfort and stability. The entire portico consists of 666 arches, and while the number of steps isn't officially counted, the sheer length and vertical climb are substantial. This walk is particularly intense in the summer heat, so it's highly recommended to do it early in the morning before the sun is at its peak. Bringing plenty of water is crucial to stay hydrated. Additionally, a small towel for your neck is a wise choice, as you are guaranteed to sweat a lot. The effort is well worth it, as the portico offers not only shelter but also breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and city as you ascend. Reaching the magnificent Basilica of San Luca at the top provides a sense of accomplishment and a truly unforgettable panoramic vista.

If one had to walk all the way up under the cover of the "Cordici" it's a guarantee that if its raining one don't get wet. Cordici is a path build by benefactors made of arches. One should experience this walk and the spectacular view of Bologna.

Teatro Anatomico is a 16th-century hall that was used for anatomy lectures and dissections, featuring intricate wood sculptures. While witnessing surgeries or autopsies in the past might have been gruesome, the theater's contributions to medical science are significant. Visitors can learn about the university's background and the theater itself from staff and tour guides. The well-preserved museum offers a glimpse into the human body's study, making it a must-see for all town visitors.
We have purchased tickets ahead of our visit to Bologna which I recommend, for everyone to do so, if they wish to see this amazing 16th century cared wood room which they used to teach anatomy in the 16th century. The ticket price is 3 euros and with that you get to visit the library too. The architecture in the whole of Archiginnasio is out of this world. From the two decorative staircases to the coat of arms plaques along the corridors and the court yard the ticket is worth eery penny.

The Palazzo dell’Archiginnasio is one of Bologna’s most fascinating historical sites, and a true celebration of learning. Once the main building of the University of Bologna (the oldest university in the Western world), it’s steeped in scholarly legacy. Walking its arcaded halls, lined with hundreds of colorful family crests, feels like stepping into a living archive of academic history. The real highlight for me was the Teatro Anatomico; an ornate wooden room built in the 17th century for anatomy lectures. It’s both beautiful and eerie, with carved figures of famous physicians watching over the marble dissection table in the center. The detail is stunning, from the coffered ceiling to the “spellati,” flayed human figures carved with unnerving precision. It’s a place where art, science, and curiosity collide. Whether you're into medicine, architecture, or just the unexpected corners of history, this spot offers an unforgettable glimpse into how knowledge was once pursued and performed. Quiet, atmospheric, and intellectually rich.

Buying tickets? - do not recommend The place is nice, however the paid part doesn't really provide anything. You can freely walk everywhere apart from 2 rooms - a theater and a library, which don't have a lot of description, so you can skip them or glance at the open door

The entry is 3€, but you have to buy it online. You can ignore the entry time on the booking system, you can enter any time having the tickets. I’d advise to buy it outside the building, the internet signal is very bad inside. The rooms and the building are beautiful, so many interesting details. We enjoyed our quick visit.

Biblioteca Comunale dell'Archiginnasio is a historic building in Bologna that served as the first seat of the University of Bologna. The Anatomical Theatre inside the Archiginnasio provides insight into the early scientific studies of the human body, featuring anatomical models and statues of renowned physicians. The Palazzo dell'Archiginnasio, now housing the municipal library, was constructed in record time to provide a unified space for various academic disciplines.

We visited the anatomical theatre and the library. We had booked and paid for tickets to the theatre but never received the tickets online. We explained this to the receptionist who initially just wanted to shoosh us away. She was not a great representative of the museum I then asked her if i could show her the email confirming our booking she just tore off two tickets and handed them to us as if we were a massive inconvenience. I had to stifle a laugh when we walked away. We were stubborn in wanting to get in because once you do it is a fascinating building and the library is fantastic and goes on forever. The extra star taken off was for the grumpy lady on reception but the building itself is fantastic.

The whole place is worth visiting, from the 16th century library, to the anatomy theatre, and the whole complex of the Archiginnasio is a something that eery tourist must see in Bologna. The library and it has one of the biggest collections of books and manuscripts in the whole of Italy. The walls of the library, corridors, halls and staircases are covered in thousands of crests which students all over Europe who studied there have left their family crest as a souvenir. I recommend that you purchase tickets before you visit as is a very tourist attraction and a very good price at 3 euros for the library and the anatomy theatre.

The Biblioteca Comunale dell’Archiginnasio feels like a hidden sanctuary for lovers of history, books, and silence. Tucked within the grand halls of the former university, it’s easy to miss unless you’re looking for it, but it’s absolutely worth finding. The atmosphere inside is hushed and reverent, with vaulted ceilings, long wooden tables, and the weight of centuries pressing softly around you. Though access is limited to preserve the space, just stepping into the entrance area and seeing the historic reading rooms beyond is enough to appreciate its significance. Housing over 850,000 volumes, the library continues Bologna’s centuries-old tradition of scholarship. It’s not a tourist stop in the usual sense, but if you love old books, scholarly quiet, and timeless architecture, this place will feel like a secret well kept.

First they didn‘t send the tickets via mail. At least we were allowed to enter the anatomic theatre which was interesting, but I question why they would use a person with a strong accent to narrate the english audiofile. It was quite irritating. And then we couldn‘t enter the other room since we didn’t have out tickets again. Overall meh museum and then a lot of problems. Would not recommend.

Don’t waste your money. You get to see two rooms, and that’s only when they are not in use. Plus you can just walk in off the street through the back stairs and look around anyway. It’s a beautiful building, but not worth paying for!

Very beautiful place, it's 3€ to enter the library and the anatomical theater. Both rooms are very interesting and even the halls connecting them have beautiful paintings on the walls. Also check out the garden first before heading up stairs. I recommend scanning the Qr code for the audio tour, it gives you just a little bit more knowledge about the place. If you don't have earphones or something with you, you can still scan it because they also have everything written down. I didn't buy my tickets in advance and the wait wasn't too bad but I'd still recommend buying them in advance to make it easier for yourself.

Basilica
Sights & Landmarks
Basilica di San Petronio is a grand Gothic basilica in Bologna, dedicated to the city's patron saint, Petronius. The 14th-century edifice boasts an unfinished brick and marble facade and houses 22 art-filled side chapels. It stands as one of Italy's most monumental Gothic basilicas, with a capacity for up to 28,000 people.
The Basilica di San Petronio is more than just a church, it’s one of the most awe-inspiring spaces in Bologna, blending massive scale, scientific ingenuity, and quiet grandeur. It’s the sixth-largest church in Europe, and standing beneath its soaring vaults, you feel every bit of that scale. What made our visit truly special was witnessing the sunbeam cross the enormous meridian line, a sundial built into the floor that still tracks solar noon with remarkable precision. It was a quiet moment, but deeply powerful; like watching time and faith align in a single ray of light. What many don’t realize is that this basilica was originally intended to be even larger than St. Peter’s in Rome, until the Vatican halted its expansion. That ambition still lingers in the unfinished façade and colossal proportions. Every chapel feels like its own world, and the blend of Gothic structure with Renaissance detail invites you to linger. San Petronio isn’t just a church; it’s a testament to Bologna’s boldness, intellect, and soul. If you’re lucky enough to catch the sundial in action, it’s a moment that stays with you.

A massive cathedral in the very centre of Bologna that’s definitely not to be missed. There is so much to see inside and try and take in that more than one visit may be required. It’s also a great place for a seat and rest especially when it’s so hot outside.

Cathedral in the heart of Bologna city center. If you're here do stop by! Make sure you are dressed appropriately, while its a free visit they do ask that you respect the dress code with covered knees and covered shoulders. It's rich in history and has various chapels worth visiting. The chapel holding the last judgement was closed for us but typically 5€ to visit. Again because it holds the last judgements painting. Would've loved to see it up close. But dont let that stop you from seeing the entire church and each chapel The chapels hold different ornaments and beautiful paintings, take you're time. Translate the plaques research the history its always worth it. Take time to enjoy the church and enjoy all the history inside. And dont forget to look down the tiles/floor holds secrets too!

The Basilica di San Petronio is absolutely breathtaking and well worth a visit if you’re in Bologna. We went over the weekend and were pleasantly surprised that there was no wait to enter. Even though it was busy inside, the sheer size of the basilica meant we could explore at our own pace and really soak in the atmosphere. The history here is incredible — construction began in the late 14th century, and it was originally intended to be even larger than St. Peter’s in Rome. Today, it remains one of the largest brick churches in the world, with an interior that feels both grand and peaceful. One tip: they are strict about the dress code, so be sure to cover your shoulders and avoid shorts or skirts cut too high above the knees. A small effort for such an unforgettable experience!

Located in the heart of Piazza Maggiore, Bologna's Basilica of San Petronio is a testament to unfulfilled ambition and striking beauty. Its most distinctive feature is the unfinished façade—the lower half a masterpiece of intricate marble reliefs, while the upper half remains raw brick, a stark reminder of papal interference that halted its construction. Inside, the vast, echoing space is a stunning example of Italian Gothic architecture. The nave soars to an incredible height, flanked by 22 chapels, each a treasure trove of art. Don't miss the Bolognini Chapel, with its vivid frescoes of Heaven and Hell, a controversial masterpiece by Giovanni da Modena. The sheer scale and rich detail of the interior make it a captivating and deeply historical space, revealing Bologna's unique cultural and religious identity. CASSINI'S MERIDIAN Embedded into the floor is, a celestial wonder which unfolds beneath my feet. Not a grand dome or a soaring fresco, but a precise, 67-meter-long line of brass and marble—the Cassini Meridian. This isn't just a decoration; it's a monument to scientific genius, a grand solar observatory in stone. As I trace its path with my gaze, I imagine Giovanni Domenico Cassini and his team, hunched over their instruments in 1655, meticulously calculating the sun's altitude at noon. The sliver of sunlight piercing the basilica's vaulted ceiling, a golden messenger from the heavens, projects a perfect ellipse of light onto the meridian, its position a testament to the changing seasons and the Earth's tilted axis. This line, etched into the basilica's heart, is a testament to the harmony between faith and reason. It's a reminder that even within the walls of a sacred space, humanity's quest for knowledge of the cosmos can find its place, illuminating both the divine and the scientific in a single, brilliant beam.

A very interesting church in the central square of Bologna, ( and definitely had more character than the cathedral). Because of it's location, and the more of I heard about it from other tours and events going on in the area, I ended up visiting this church 3 times within 3 days. However, every time I visited, I learned something new, such as how the built sundials work, or something about one of the many chapels in the building. There were soldiers at the front, which was a little unusual for other churches, but it seemed to cause no issues when visiting.
Thomas S — Google review
So many churches and cathedrals in Italy it is a challenge to see them all and a bigger challenge to know which ones might hold something even more special than the last. The Basilia di San Petronio is worth stopping in and visiting. While there is so much to see some of the artwork in the side chapels are remarkable and masterpieces in their own right. Take a little time to research before your visit and you'll find some very interesting paintings. Many com for its fresque of the Last Judgment. The prophet Mohammed is painted naked, his head devoured by a devil, in hell. The Basilica's half-finished marble façade is decorated with works by famous sculptors such as Jacopo della Quercia, Aspertini and Alfonso Lombardi. The central door features sculptures by Jacopo della Quercia depicting prophets and stories from the Bible, as well as a Madonna with a Child, Saint Ambrose and Saint Petronius. These sculptures would later inspire none other than Michelangelo, who spent some time in Bologna as a young man. The façade also features sculptures by Properzia de’ Rossi, one of the rare female sculptors of the Renaissance.

The Basilica di San Petronio is truly impressive. Its unfinished façade gives it a unique charm, and once you step inside, the vast space and beautiful light are striking. The frescoes and artwork make you feel like you’re walking through living history. The atmosphere is calm and majestic, and every corner reflects the soul of old Bologna. A visit that’s absolutely worth it, especially if you enjoy historic sites with depth and character.

Beautiful big piazza in the heart of Bologna. The Basilica is also in the square which is also worth visiting. It has the longest indoor meridian in the world, dating back to the 1600's.
Deirdre D — Google review
Great central square and public space used to great effect, every evening i was there, a stage was set with speakers talking about future possibilities, and last night an italian classic covering themes like poverty, innocence, friendship from the viewpoint of a young boy. I believe there is a free movie every evening until end of August. Over 500 seats were taken which shows people have an appetite to use pubic spaces in creative ways, well done bologna!

The nightlife in this pizza was unbelievable! We were there at 12:00 am and the live music was still going on with a good crowd and didn't seem it's going to go down anytime soon! Beautiful, big piazza with good vibes and plenty steps to sit on and chill.

Neptune's Fountain, also known as the Fountain of Neptune (Fontana del Nettuno), is a stunning 16th-century fountain located in Bologna. This magnificent work of art was created by Giambologna and commissioned to glorify the papal government of Pope Pius IV. The fountain stands in the center of Piazza del Nettuno and features a bronze statue of Neptune atop a pedestal, surrounded by spurting mermaids and four heraldic dolphins representing rivers from different continents.
Great location. Wish I had more time here. Lots of shops and restaurants. During my evening there noticed alot of construction in the area. I assume it's all part of progress. I would definitely recommend this location for dining and shopping. During my visit there was a huge outdoor theater set up for public entertainment.

This fountain is truly a work of art! Perfect place to sit, take in and observe it's beauty. There is a certain calm that washes over one's body while near this fountain.
TIM B — Google review
Neptune’s Fountain is a beautiful landmark right in the heart of Piazza Maggiore. The statue was created in the 16th century by Giambologna and shows Neptune towering over the square as a symbol of power and abundance. The craftsmanship is incredible and the details are striking when you see it up close. The surrounding square is just as impressive, lined with historic buildings that make you feel like you have stepped back into Renaissance Italy. We loved visiting and found it to be a place where history, art, and the daily life of the city all come together. It is definitely one of the highlights of Bologna and worth taking the time to enjoy. If you want the best photos and a quieter atmosphere, visit early in the morning before the crowds arrive.
Scott G — Google review
Certainly an impressive sight and worth visiting if you are in the area! It is one of the more touristy areas of Bologna so it is much busier - the Fountain itself puts a lot of smiles on people’s faces, you’ll see why!
Mel W — Google review
An intriguing and a bit lewd...the Neptune Fountain in Bologna is a photo op and rest stop if nothing else. Who could miss the opportunity to see the water squirting so playfully? After the giggles take a few minutes and marvel at the work involved in creating the fountain...then think of the whimsy “Pietra della Vergogna” or “Stone of Shame” is the secret of Bologna. Local pride, history and culture all come together in Neptune's Fountain...another work brought to the world by the Medicis.

Perhaps my favorite statue in Italy, and I saw tons of them. You really need to see it to believe it. Photos don't do it justice. I love this city.

Neptun's fountain is very famous and I recommend to go there and take a photo, it's really beautiful place. There is possibility to use water nearby.

Did you know this trident inspired the iconic Maserati logo? In Bologna’s main square, you’ll find Neptune, the Roman god of the seas 🌊 Holding his trident ⚡, he and symbolizes power and dominion. A must-see landmark in Bologna !

Santuario di Santa Maria della Vita, also known as the Church of Holy Mary of Life, is a stunning Gothic-style Catholic church located just east of the lively Main Square ('Piazza Maggiore'). The interior boasts bold 17th-century High Baroque frescoes and historic murals and sculptures.
I'm not great with art but the statues are well worth paying to see. The emotion and expression isn't something that I expected from statues of that era. We had to wait to see the statues as a large group entered before us. However, I don't think that this usual.
Christopher S — Google review
A 16th century Baroque style church in the central of Bologna. There's small chapels on either side of the nave and there's a paid sculptural museum of Sorrow over Dead Christ by Niccolò dell'Arca, which I didn't visit as my time wouldn't allowed it.
Angie O — Google review
Tucked in the heart of Bologna, Santuario di Santa Maria della Vita is more than just a church — it’s a place that carries centuries of history and emotion. Founded in the 13th century by a confraternity devoted to caring for the sick and poor, the site later took its Baroque form with its striking dome completed in the 18th century. What makes it truly unforgettable is Niccolò dell’Arca’s terracotta masterpiece, the Compianto sul Cristo Morto. The raw emotion in the life-size figures grieving over Christ is unlike anything I’ve seen — dramatic, human, and deeply moving. Between the church, the Oratory, and the small museum, you get a glimpse not only of breathtaking art but also of Bologna’s social and spiritual history. A must-stop for art lovers and anyone exploring the city’s rich heritage.
Cady L — Google review
Hidden away beside the altar of an unassuming church in Bologna's wonderful Quadrilatero food market is a spectacular group of life-size terracotta figures depicting the Lamentation Over The Dead Christ. Sculpted by Niccolò dell’Arca in 1463, the six figures gathered around the body of Christ include Mary Magdalene, the Madonna and the disciple John, all displaying the most intense and lifelike torment. The church of Santuario di Santa Maria della Vita (free entry) is beautiful too. The statues are well worth the entry price and a detour when visiting the Quadrilatero.
Roberta M — Google review
You can quite easily walk past this church but don’t. Although you need to pay to see certain parts and pieces of religious art it’s worth it.
DOVETAIL — Google review
Free to enter, but you can pay €5 (€3 for students) to also see the statues hidden behind a big board. They're actually incredibly emotive. I honestly didn't expect much but was taken aback at the emotion I felt when I saw their faces. I think it's better in real life than the photos can capture. Incredible craftsmanship from hundreds of years ago, made from terracotta!

8 euros entrance fee was worth it Beautiful masterpieces of art

The church is open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-19:00pm. The church costs €5 to enter all parts of the church but if you have a Bologna Welcome card which costs €25 you will get in free. The card gives entry to museums, churches, palaces etc. The church is worth a visit. It is a beautiful church.

(Translated by Google) It becomes frankly difficult to evaluate such an attraction considering the state in which the structure was at the time of my visit. What I can say is that the glance 👁 was impressive 😲; to give cover to the cathedral ⛪ reddish panels had been installed instead of the ceiling, while on the facade support beams and steel cables could be seen. At the base it was still full of debris while along the left side of the structure there were stacks of bricks 🧱 ready for use (see photos 📸 attached 📎). I imagine that the renovation works 🏗🧱 have been completed by now, which is why I would like to return to the place for a new visit.
