Specialty Museums
The Jurassic Museum of Asturias is a fascinating destination that offers a glimpse into the prehistoric world, particularly the 'Age of Dinosaurs'. Located in the scenic region of northern Spain, this museum showcases an impressive collection of dinosaur bones and fossils discovered in the surrounding areas. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring giant diplodocus skeletons and learn about the rich paleontological history of Asturias.
We had a really nice time at Jurassic Museum. We only visited the external part, but it was still a great experience. There are many species of dinosaurs, which made it very exciting for the kids. They had a lot of fun exploring, and the playground was a great bonus. Definitely worth a visit!

I was ten years ago. The venue has really improved its content. A very nice museum very well conservated and organized too! Very, very good! Wednesdays are for free. Take your tickets on the web, so easy & fast.
HELECHO A — Google review
Jurrasic museum before you even enter the museum, you are greeted with spectacular sea views, gorgeous nature and an abundance of open area playground and grass to explore the absolutely giant dinosaur replicas around the garden. Even without visiting the museum, this aspect of the museum, which is completely free by the way , is worth a visit just on its own. There are lots of photo opportunities and activities to explore, perfect for families with small kids. before you even arrive, I want you to take a quick satellite image look at the museum to understand what it is molded after, absolutely genius. The structure itself, the huge domes are truly spectacular to behold. Getting inside the museum is no disappointment, the towering assembled dinosaur bones towering over you underneath the beautiful interior architecture of the domes. Again, even if you wouldn’t be interested in dinosaurs, the place itself and the vibe is utterly impressive. I do wish the path leading between the different timelines will be more clearly marked out but the fluidity, the ramps leading up to the second floor and back down again was a very pleasant way to explore in a natural and organic way. The objects of the exhibition were very well lit but I found that the general lighting was a bit too modest and too dark but at the same time the tranquility and peace was borderline on a yoga session level. Very relaxing... Almost too relaxing for a tired parent. 😅 all in all it was a fantastic experience and I have absolutely no major things to criticize, even the parking is plentiful. Definitely come and visit this fantastic educational place.
Emil “ — Google review
Our little 2-year-old boy, Alexander, is completely obsessed with dinosaurs, so visiting the Museo Jurásico de Asturias was everything and more for him (and for us too!). He was in awe from the moment we arrived — there are so many dinosaurs to see, learn about, and even ride on. The displays are fantastic, with plenty to keep both kids and adults engaged, and the outdoor areas are beautiful to explore. We loved seeing his face light up at every “roar” and “wow.” A must-visit if you’re in Asturias, especially with little dinosaur fans! I would just say to all family’s that I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND, eating food before you get there as this was the only thing that was not to a high level. I would go as far and say this was some of the worst burger, chips and croquettes that I’ve ever tasted. Other than that, the park is INCREDIBLE ✨ Also an electric car charge point too 🙌
Patrick K — Google review
This is the perfect museum if you have children or are interested in dinosaurs. The museum is bigger than it looks, has some impressive displays, a room full of stuff children can touch, and movies about how the fossils were found. But the main draw is the park around the museum with live size statues of the dinosaurs.
Jan B — Google review
Not a big place but it had a good collection.
Sherif L — Google review
Lovely Jurassic Museum, the first one I've been. Interesting that all that region was full of dinosaurs. The kids to loved it!!
J S — Google review
Really enjoyed it here. For small children just going to the gardens to see the dinosaurs (free) might be a better option than the museum. The museum is full of information and exhibitions and really worth the entrance fee.

Scenic spot
Sights & Landmarks
Mirador del Fito is a must-visit high point in Asturias, offering a unique observation deck with breathtaking views of the mountains and ocean. Located on the hills of Sierra del Sueve, this old concrete watchtower stands at 3,642 feet above sea level and provides visitors with a spectacular 360-degree view of the area.
Spectacular views even on an overcast rainy day.. Even the drive up to the lookout tower was amazing, as we climbed up the winding road greeted by goats and kids on our way. Well worth the detour on our drive from Oviedo to Santander.
Aine H — Google review
Not totally clear but did despite some clouds see a few mountains. Walked up the trail on the nearby hill, good views and wild Narcissus in flower!
K S — Google review
The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking ! On one side you have the sea and on the other you have the mountains. It is really spectacular if you are one to enjoy nature's fine work of art! The road to get up there is not bad, a little tight, but manageable. Unfortunately, when you do arrive at the spot, you should be aware that there is no place where you could get any drinks or snacks, so you should go prepared!
Somebody S — Google review
Spectacular viewpoint with views of the surrounding mountains and coastline, definitely worth the trip! Warning: view is weather dependent.
Thom B — Google review
Stunning spot to see the entire Picos de Europa and the sea on the other side. Make sure you go in a sunny day and drive carefully up the curved road.
Merili P — Google review
One of the prettiest places I’ve been including Yosemite, Zermatt, and in the Everest region.
Werner Z — Google review
The drive up and down the Mirador is really beautiful. The view from the place itself is nice the the view from ita surroundings is mich better so I recommended walking around a bit (there is a very nice viewing point in the opposite direction of the Mirador.
Yair K — Google review
One of the best views of the mountains I saw in Asturias. A must go for anyone who loves nature and scenic views. Even on a cloudy day the view is absolutely spectacular. There is plenty of parking in a car park and even on the road and a lot of area to walk around and get a new view.

Bufones de Pría

Mentioned on
+20 other lists
Outdoor Activities
Beaches
Bufones de Pria is a natural wonder located on the Asturias coast, featuring jets of seawater spouting from holes and cracks eroded in limestone cliffs. These blowholes are formed by the erosion of the sea and rain on limestone, creating connections between the ocean and the land. On calm days, visitors can still appreciate their beauty, but it's during strong waves that they display their full effect.
Really beautiful coastal views with stunning aquamarine water. Went at low tide. I'm sure would be even more magnificent if you were able to visit during high tide for the water splash effects. Definitely worth the detour for a little visit. Well signposted. Good but uneven car park from where you can walk about 15-20mins to it.
Ly M — Google review
Impressive natural phenomenon where the force of the sea pushes water up through blowholes in the rocks to create water spouts at the top of the cliffs. To witness this, you'll have to come at high tide.
Thirsty H — Google review
Amazing experience! Maybe better with a high tide and high waves. The sound is gorgeous and the drops of water erupting with the rainbow made it unforgettable!!! Be careful with the mobiles and hats, the wind blows hard!
IRINA Y — Google review
First time visiting here, found a free parking lot about 1.1km away, and walked the rest of the way which took us about 16 minutes. We didn't see any big splashes but the scenery was amazing, and had the perfect weather to take nice pictures. A beautiful place.
Tyrone M — Google review
We were lucky to experience the bufones at high tide with a big swell and lovely sunny weather so saw them at their best with many spouting water and air. Quick train ride from Ribadesella to Belmonte then walk out to coast and bufones area. From there back along the coastpath to Ribadesella- stunning coastal scenery all the way and a gently undulating 15km total. Nice cool beer in the first bar we came to in Ribadesella… 😀
Andy R — Google review
We visited Bufones de Pría on September 29, arriving around 7:30 pm and staying until nearly 9 pm in hopes of seeing the famous blowholes in action. Unfortunately, we didn’t see a single one during that time. On top of that, parking was a real downside. They forbid cars from going nearby, so we had to walk more than 3 km back and forth , even though it wasn’t peak season and the area wasn’t crowded at all. That said, the cliffs are impressive, and the evening sky with dramatic clouds was gorgeous!
Mozhgan — Google review
We have visited during mid of October. Still the weather was nice but it could get rainy on some days. Surprisingly it was a bit crowded but not overly so. You will be definitely able to find parking. I recommend to do so right before entering the village. Signs will be shown clearly. Especially if you have a camper van, drop it off there and walk through the village. It will take you around 15 minutes to get there. You will cross a beautiful beach and you shall see horses, sheep and perhaps some cows on the way as well 😊

Playa de Gulpiyuri

Mentioned on

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Nestled beneath rugged hills, Playa de Gulpiyuri is a unique sinkhole beach that captivates visitors with its small size and unspoiled surroundings. To reach the sandy shores, one must venture more than a hundred meters inland. Despite its diminutive appearance, this hidden gem offers an extraordinary experience as it reveals itself to be a natural saltwater pool fed by the crashing waves of the Cantabrian Sea.
Nice hidden and small beach you can top up for nice see view
Michel M — Google review
We stopped by out of curiosity having seen the place on Tik Tok 😅 At 17.00 on a cloudy Sunday afternoon it was quite busy there, so I can only imagine what it would be like at midday on a sunny day. I think it would be fun but during the summer months there's always going to be a lot of people and while it's impressive, I myself would prefer to go to one of Asturias other fine beaches. Best option for parking without fear of receiving a fine is to drive right down the bottom of the track and pay the 3€. Between the parking area (where incidentally you can walk to another beach from) and Gulpiyuri there's a chiringuito where you can purchase refreshments.
Jason A — Google review
Known as the shortest beach in the world, this is a nice spot to stop by. It can get crowded and it is indeed a small beach but it is very unique due to the fact that there is a channel in the cliff that allows seawater to reach this beach which is basically a sinkhole. Behind the beach you will have some nice views of the cliffs and there is free parking available there.
Collins — Google review
Wonderful and beautiful beach. Small, compared to the other nearby beaches. Although, i recomend going to the beach in trainers / shoes, not flipflops, since the terrain is very rocky and slippery. Plus, to get to the actual "shore" you need to go up and down a feet wide crack.
Ludmila S — Google review
Beautiful interesting beach and views. You might have to pay €2.50 to park your car
Anna T — Google review
I think we just chose a bad moment to go, because we were not even able to put our feet in the water. It's cute and small, but many people are coming, and I am sure it's a better idea to visit in the evening or early morning. Parking cost 2,5€.
Joanna H — Google review
Unusual to see an onshore beach, but that's all it has... Then it's quite small and tends to be crowded. With low tide there's barely no water so go with high tide.
Martin O — Google review
Super cute secluded beach.. Bit of a, walk from car park.! Becareful of where you park, observe the signs.as the farmer will call the police to give parking tickets. Drive down that sandy rocky road for a few minutes. Better place to park and shorter walk.

Playa de Torimbia

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Playa de Torimbia is a stunning crescent-shaped beach with white sand and turquoise waters, making it a popular spot for nudists. The secluded setting adds to its allure, as it can only be reached on foot. Surrounded by lush green scenery, the road leading to the beach offers breathtaking views from the Mirador sablera Torimbia viewpoint. This picturesque beach is also favored by surfers, especially during sunset.
Such a beautiful beach. It’s huge, the sand is nice. There is a chiringuito that’s serves warm dishes and cold drinks. It’s a 20 minute walk from the road, add another 10 minutes to a proper free parking all the way up the road. The cars that had just been parked along the road were fined.
Kateryna L — Google review
Beautiful nudist beach but with difficult access. Can’t park close. Need to park at the parking lot and walk downhill 1km to access the beach. Views on the way are mesmerizing. The beach has a “chiringuito” that serves beer and warm food.
Deborah L — Google review
Wonderful beach and surroundings. Not crowded with breathtaking landscape. You can walk all along the coast. Our favorite place during our stay in the north of Spain.
Re P — Google review
Beautiful beach and good for surf. There’s a sign that prohibits motorhomes by the entrance to the little town you need to pass to get to the big parkjng lot. Understandable as you need to be a good driver to manouver the narrow streets. An easy walk down to the beach, not so easy to get back up - but many families with small children have managed it before you! It’s a naturalist beach. No toilets.
Maija J — Google review
Torimbia Beach is a hidden gem! It’s a nudist beach. The atmosphere is calm and family-friendly, with turquoise water and a beach sheltered from the wind. There’s a small beach bar with delicious seafood, though there’s a bit of a wait. The hike to and from the parking lot is about 15 minutes down and 20 minutes up, adding to its charm. Highly recommend it!
Antoine G — Google review
This beach offers a stunning view, thin white sand, crystal clear waters, fun waves to jump and the safety of lifeguard staff. Parking is somewhat tricky and there is a 2 km walk to get to the beach, which is quite steep and rocky at times, so not suitable for older people or wheelchair users.
Elbereth869 — Google review
It's a beautiful remote beach, very secluded and picturesque. When driving there, go all the way up the hill, the parking is at the end of the road. And then it's a nice hike down to the beach
Bogdan K — Google review
Absolutely stunning beach and views… the waves, caves and a tiny island around the beach Points to note: 1) accessible by private transport only. From the Parking point it’s a private 10-15 minutes descent to the beach which is partly VERY steep 2) there is only one restaurant by the beach which has good options of food and beverages 3) it’s a “clothes optional” beach. So most of the people you see around are FULLY naked. So that’s something to be considered if visiting with kids or your comfort Overall if you do not mind the descent and climb, it’s an amazing beach and all the effort is worth it

Nature preserve
Picos de Europa National Park is a protected area known for its dense forests and diverse wildlife, including deer, wolves, and bears. The park offers spectacular scenery with high mountain passes, lakes, and stunning peaks. Visitors can enjoy activities such as climbing, cycling, kayaking, and hiking in this picturesque setting.
It's not often I give a 5 star review but this place is exceptional. The scenery is spectacular, from river gorges to high mountain tops no photos can do it justice. Every twist and turn opens a new vista and it was an absolute joy to drive through and over it. Two caveats, the roads are very narrow and unfortunately full of camper vans and it can become very crowded, especially during summer season. However, it's not to be missed. Hiking canoeing and climbing are all very popular sports in the area and a shout out to the lovely guide in Trescares for all the wonderful information he gave us.
Alan B — Google review
Stunning scenery and well marked trails. Getting to it is a bit of a faff. We drove to Covadonga (v cool place) then if you hadn’t pre-ordered bus tickets you have either a taxi or shuttle. Shuttle was 12 euro return and you share with others. Once you are off an going it’s pretty efficient. The drive up to the lakes is epic, and I can see why they don’t want lots of cars. It’s busy at the meeting point & round the lakes but once you get out hiking in the trail it thins out v quickly. Trails are well marked and scenery is stunning. Allow at least a half day.
Gareth P — Google review
Incredible views everywhere, truly spectacular National Park. There are many good trails, was very easy to follow and well maintained. Can highly recommend the hike to Vega de Ario refuge even over the lagos one.
RV — Google review
Beautiful place. Unfortunately it was very very foggy and we couldn’t see the lakes :( but the place was full of beautiful cows. Would love to came again when the weather is better.
Monique C — Google review
For any visiting birder the Picos de Europa is the best place in Spain to see Wallcreeper, Snowfinch, Alpine Accentor and Alpine Chough in the summer, plus other birds such as Rock Thrush, Water Pipit and maybe even a Lammergeier. The Fuente Dé cable car takes you up to over 1,900 m in altitude in just a 4-minute ride. It gets busy in the summer, so don't leave it until too late in the morning, but once you get away from the entrance the crowds thin out and you are left with amazing scenery and a good chance at some of the best high-altitude birds that you get in Spain. It's great for hiking, and in fact if you can't or don't hike it's a bit of a shame, because you'll be missing out on the best of the park. Down in the green valleys there are hay meadows, small villages and forested slopes, good for Black Woodpecker and Middle Spotted Woodpecker, and high passes with Citril Finches in the vicinity.

La Franca Beach

La Franca Beach is a vast expanse of golden sand that boasts striking rock formations and a beachside river. Visitors are pleasantly surprised by the abundance of natural beauty, including trees, rocks, and pillars scattered across the shoreline. The beach offers something for everyone, whether you prefer to relax in the sand or enjoy a drink at one of the nearby terraces. However, it's worth noting that parking can be limited at times.
What an amazing place. Wild beach with spectacular features. Rocks covered in coral with little life forms buzzling in the crevices, great restaurant options and thrashing waves.
Pierre A — Google review
one of the most beautiful beaches I‘ve been to! Beautiful & colorful rock formations.
Johanna A — Google review
One of the nicest beaches I’ve ever been to! Playa de la Franca is a beautiful sandy beach on the Calabrian Sea (northern Spain, Asturias), tucked between dramatic cliffs and green hills. It’s clean, well-kept, and has a laid-back local vibe. Even though I’m usually not a big fan of swimming in the sea, here I really enjoyed it – calm, clear water and a gentle slope make it great for swimming. At low tide, you can even walk through natural rock tunnels to a hidden beach called Playa del Oso – a fun little adventure. Around the beach you’ll find a few restaurants; we had amazing fresh fish at Emilio’s. Definitely worth booking ahead in high season – it fills up fast around lunchtime. There’s a shower to rinse off and plenty of parking nearby (around €3 a bit further, or €5 right at the beach). All in all, a real gem – scenic, family-friendly, and full of character.
Joris W — Google review
Wonderful- a beautiful place, the water is shallow, very family-friendly. Can get busy but also kind of calm and cozy at the sane time.

The small island you can see to your left, It looks like the  cloistered island on the planet Ahch-To from Star Wars, where Luke hides in In The Force Awakens! Sure In daylight!!(I'm a Star Wars fan!)

A very interesting beach, quite an experience. A long sand beach, especially when the water regresses… Beautiful scenery. The water is cold but very refreshing.
Nurece G — Google review
We were very surprised to find such a gem. A beautiful spot with everything you can wish for (if you are me ☺️). There's a river that flows into the sea. There are trees, there are rocks and rock pillars but also a sand beach. If you don't want to sit in the sand you can have a drink at a terrace. There's only one thing that was not amazing: parking space. There aren't to many parking spots, so baer that in mind.
Noelle K — Google review
Stunning sand beach large and deep with all equipment around to park, eat, shower… beach is clean The closer you park from the beach, the more expensive the parking lot from free to 4 euros. Best beach I have seen in Asturias, Galicia and pais vasco… well it certainly the most developed around

(Translated by Google) I visited a few years ago and it was great. Today we returned and we were disappointed, the man who is there doesn't know anything about the place, the first time the girl explained everything to us. Castillo del Rey is a 13th-century castle located in San Vicente de la Barquera, Cantabria. It stands as a significant historical site alongside the Church of Santa Maria de los Angeles. The castle, with its crenelated tower and small museum, offers visitors an exhibition on the town's history and provides stunning views of the Ria de San Vicente.
A wonderful place to spend a couple of hours and take in the outstanding scenery. €2 well spent. 🙏🏽❤️

Beaches are great, town a little disappointing. Seafood restaurants near the Port end of town looked interesting. Free parking near the Port.

Great walk from the town center to the castle. Awesome views and the cathedral is up there too. You can see the whole robes and the town from there. Peaceful and beautiful. A must see if you are in San Vicente de la Barquera. There sometimes a few expositions of local artist in the near museum. Usually free entrance.

Worth 2€. A couple of interesting things inside, but to be honest the best is certainly the view. Not suitable for people struggling with stairs ;)

Beautiful castle with amazing views around the bay of San Vicente de la barquera. Inside you can see a hugh canon. When you go upstairs you can walk around and enjoy the views and take nice pictures. At the end there is a church you can visit too. Inside the central hall there is a 3D maquete of the castle and town.

El Capricho de Gaudí is an early masterpiece by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, built in 1883 as a summer chalet. This Persian-style minaret stands out for its personalized design, featuring sunflower tiles and unique details that reflect the owner's interests. Situated on a hill in Comillas, this English-style mansion offers guided and self-guided tours to explore Gaudí's decorative work for lawyer Antonio Lopez.
Absolutely stunning, I do not regret at all taking the guided tour, it was so worth it, the guide explained it so well that I thought I was watching a history movie about Gaudi!! I would even recommend ppl to come to Comillas to see this 💯

Having cycled into the town to visit the house we were disappointed to have to buy tickets for entry later in the day! Eventually once our time arrived the walk around this house was very rewarding and interesting. An app enabled access to a description of each room but I think given the popularity and diversity of people visiting the app could have been more interactive!
David M — Google review
El Capricho de Gaudí was one of the most enchanting architectural experiences I’ve ever had. The moment you arrive, you can feel Gaudí’s creativity everywhere—bright colors, whimsical details, and a design that feels both playful and brilliant at the same time. Walking through the house and gardens feels like stepping into a dream. Every corner has something unique to admire, whether it’s the ceramic sunflowers, the curved lines, or the way the light fills each room. You can really sense Gaudí’s genius and imagination in every detail. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, making the visit even more enjoyable by sharing insights and fun facts that brought the space to life. It’s the kind of place that’s beautiful not just to see, but to explore and really experience. Overall, El Capricho de Gaudí is a must-visit for architecture lovers, art enthusiasts, or anyone who appreciates something truly unique. It’s charming, inspiring, and absolutely unforgettable.
Dee G — Google review
I am not familiar with the area so this was a huge surprise. The queue to get in was fine for a July weekday. But you could also great views from the park side. The minaret was fabulous and took on a Lego effect.
Paul S — Google review
Great to see one of Gaudi’s early works up close. We visited out of season at end of September so no queues and not too busy. I imagine that in high season it would be a bit more cramped and worthwhile planning a guided tour to make things easier.

If you are interested in architecture you will enjoy this place. If you are interested in Gaudí, you will enjoy this place. If you are not interested in architecture or Gaudí, you will still probably have a great time here. The free online interactive audioguide, accessible from your phone, makes the experience very instructive and worth the price of admission on top of the obvious beauty of the place. They have access slots, so be ready to wait or go for a walk in the village while you wait for yours.

Beautiful house designed by Gaudi. Very interesting architecture and details all over. It's actually quite amazing they were able to restore it that well, based on what it looked like 30 years ago

This a place to visit as it is the first building built by Gaudí. Dogs are allowed in the garden so you can take turns to see the building. There is a small cafe and a souvenir shop. There are stairs so it's not accessible for wheelchair.

Personal opinion....this is epic venue for a wedding or party....recommend it for sure...for that. Put the caste with a stay at any place nearby...so many to choose from...this is part of an epic romantic life...live, love...WALK IT

A great place to visit with kids, we came during Easter holidays and booked tickets in advance. The castle is a masterpiece of a handcraft restauration, the guide at the reception explains the history of the castle, how it came to ruine and was restored. It's a pity we won't see one of the medieval festivals they organise. A hidden jewel of unknown Cantabria, highly recommended for those who like going sideways of the main tourist routes.

The castle is quite small and can be visited in half an hour. Although the inside has very little to see in terms of how it was used in the past, you have to go just to see the carpentry. It's a work of art. I don't know how often they change the exhibitions, or if the paintings are there permanently, but I thought they were interesting and fitted in well. The lady who works there was really nice. If you're in the area go!

Nacimiento del Rio Ebro, located 5km northwest of Reinosa, is the source of the Ebro River. The serene spot features deep-turquoise water, a tiny shrine, and picnic spots on wooded banks. It offers a natural landscape with plantations and a diverse ecosystem supporting various plants, animals, and birds. The area has been designed for accessibility with steps and visitor facilities like seating and parking.
Beautiful area where you can walk along the river. There is a car park right beside the area with a restaurant and a cafe. The walk is quite small so it will only take 10/15 minutes to walk around.

Specialty Museums
The Museum of Torture - Inquisicion is a unique and somber attraction that displays various methods and tools of torture used throughout history. The collection features instruments from different parts of Europe dating back to the 15th-19th centuries. Visitors can explore the darker aspects of history while also enjoying the vibrant historic center of Santillana del Mar, which is known for its art galleries, craft shops, and festive atmosphere.
A very well balanced and interesting experience. It doesn’t focus exclusively on the morbid aspect of the topic but instead the philosophy and horrors around this. There is a book at the entry that provides an amazing introduction to the purpose of this history. It’s pretty much exactly what it advertised and done in great taste
Jack C — Google review
It would not be my first choice for a museum, however definitely would recommend it, as its a sad reality of not only our history, but our present and the development of freedom of humans and women. It's not for the light hearted as the truth about the torture is horrible. Definitely would not recommend younger children (under the age of 16). Also I rate it a 4 because I think the price is a bit high for what it is.
Nali ( — Google review
Really interesting museum if you can handle the topic. It is small and has two floors with replicas and everywhere detailed explanation in English, Spanish and French. Entry is 5 euro which is worth it in my opinion but you can only pay in cash. There is also a toilet. This museum is together with the beautiful old town of Santillana del Mar a good reason to come here
Erik G — Google review
There have always been, are and will be mentally ill people who derive pleasure from the suffering of others. They invent tools for torture and act as executioners. Anyone can fall into their hands. And it is scary to imagine what exhibits will be after our days....
Leventy L — Google review
For 5 euros, this is a great value. It's got good multi-lingual descriptions of the different apparatus, and also of the history (why and where) the devices were used. The full experience is about an hour; very interesting and somewhat disturbing of course. Not for the faint of heart!
Justyn D — Google review
Quite impressive! It shows this dark time how human were brutally treated. If you don’t have so strong nerves like me, the visit cannot be finished😬. Happy that we are living in the modern times and this kind of thing hopefully is gone.
Min M — Google review
We came out of this small museum with a grim feeling, but I think that’s a good thing for a museum about torture. Worth a visit if you’re in Santillana del Mar, even if the collection is a bit small. However, every torture device was well explained in three different languages (French, English and Spanish off course).
Noah S — Google review
Cash only. But reasonable prices. The museum effectively accomplishes its purpose - almost too effectively. Eat lunch first or you might lose your appetite. Not for the squeamish - though my younger kids were ok.

The Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana in Santillana del Mar has a rich history dating back to the 11th century. The town itself is a National Monument, boasting medieval architecture and landmarks like Torre del Merino and Torre de Don Borja. Exploring the cobbled streets lined with medieval mansions is a treat for visitors, while nearby palaces and villas offer glimpses into the region's affluent past.
Beautiful church situated at the end of one of the cobblestone streets in this equally beautiful town. It's three euros to enter which means that it is peaceful and quiet inside. There is an attractive altar a sarcophagus in the nave as well as a cloister beside it.
Stuart M — Google review
Beautiful old village, I love places like this very much. However, a lot of people know about this place, so the number of tourists overrides this beautiful atmosphere..... Tried to enjoy it no matter what, we came on a Sunday. Very many hotels and stores for such a small place, which explains the number of visitors. I recommend a visit, but I think it would be better on a weekday and early.

When you think on beaches in Spain you probably realize the south or eastern Spain, but this is actually one of the best beaches of northern Spain, and of course, on my opinion, the best of the town indeed the city, unfortunately I was there in the winter time so I couldn’t swim, but believe there were people swimming This area is full of life whole year long they have a great waterfront walk and nice place to take pictures, clean and beautiful landscapes My wife and I made Santa tree one of our stops during our northern Spain road trip and we couldn’t be more satisfied

Magdalena Peninsula is a historical and scenic destination featuring a palace with gardens, a small zoo, beaches, and a lighthouse. The wide boulevards of the old town offer picturesque views of fishermen along the waterfront. The verdant Magdalena Peninsula provides an opportunity to enjoy the warm sandy shore and experience the ocean. The peninsula also houses the summer residence of King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia, now known as the Palace.
The palacio is open only over the weekends but the surrounding gardens is beautiful and it is open every day till 10. It has sea animals to see and a park. In general amazing views and it’s totally recommend it!

Fabulously picturesque and immensely photogenic, the Magdalena Peninsula was the highlight of my stay in Santander. I wish I had a whole day to spend there and take in all the views. The sunsets there are simply magnificent.
Floyd C — Google review
What a beautiful place to visit even as a tourist. We were travelling with an aged mom and were delighted to hear that she didn't have to walk up the hill to the palace as there's a train (bus) one can hop on that takes a slow trip up the hill. Cost was 5€. The grounds are immaculate and there's benches placed throughout the peninsula where you can sit and enjoy the view. It's a lovely area to stroll around.
Lee-Anne C — Google review
Inside the palace is exquisite and at 3 euros for a guided tour well worth it but the grounds and seascapes are stunning. You can see and hear the power of the waves crashing into the cliffs. A short bus journey (1.30 euros each way) will take you there and entry to the grounds is free.
Lynne F — Google review
Very nice, green and peaceful place! Perfect for a walk! Beautiful places to visit and eat! Surrounded by water with amazing views, and that sound of waves crashing on the rocks, ahh... miss this place!
Elisei P — Google review
The grounds surrounding the Palace are absolutely stunning, with beautiful cliff edges where you can feel the full force of the atlantic wind. The park is really well maintained and is a lovely place to just sit and chill. The actual peninsula is 5 stars for definite, but the park area lacks toilets and amenities. The mini zoo (with sea lions and penguins) seems cruel and unnecessary. The animals don't have much space and some don't seem very healthy, which put a gloomy cloud over what an otherwise lovely trip to the park.

Palacio de la Magdalena is a historic royal summer residence built in the early 20th century on the Peninsula of La Magdalena, Santander. It was constructed to serve as the official summer residence for the Spanish Royal Family and was designed by architects Javier Gonzalez de Riancho and Gonzalo Bringas. The palace, which cost 700,000 pesetas of 1912, now houses Menendez Pelayo International University and serves as a meeting and conference center.
I would definitely recommend visiting Palacio de la Magdalena. There are 2 options to get here. You can get the train which is part of the Hop on Hop off bus tour. It is included when you buy the ticket for €26pp. or if you were feeling active you could walk it in about 30-40 mins. Beautiful views of the coast once you get the top and of course the huge Palace which was constructed between 1909-1911.

A true gem in Santander! The palace is an architectural marvel with a fascinating history—it served as the summer residence of King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenie. The grounds are stunning, perfect for a peaceful walk, picnic, or just enjoying the views. There’s also a small zoo and playground, great for kids. We walked there (about 35 minutes from the city center), but there’s also a tourist train available. Access to the gardens is free, and guided tours of the palace interior are available and absolutely worth it. Facilities are clean, and there’s a nice café on-site. A must-visit for anyone coming to Santander—beautiful, historic, and family-friendly!”

If you are in Santander, you must visit this place. Besides the beautiful park and the emblematic buildings, the view is absolutely breathtaking. As a recommendation, if you enjoy walking, don’t take the little train to reach the palace. The distances presented by the staff who guide you are exaggerated — the walking times are much shorter.
Alin P — Google review
I enjoyed going to see it but I didn't want to visit inside the palace. I found the outside space very pleasant to walk around and the exterior of the palace is really very beautiful and for those who saw the series Grand Hotel it is really cool to go there.

Nice place.

(Translated by Google) Bridge eye excavated by the waters of the Nela River as it passes through this beautiful town. The name Puentedey comes from this bridge: bridge of God. It is imposing The river passes today with calm waters, it seems incapable of having carved this hole, but the Nela River must have character. (Original) Ojo de puente excavado por las aguas del río Nela a su paso por este precioso pueblo. El nombre de Puentedey le viene de este puente : puente de Dios. (Translated by Google) Amazing, seeing it for the first time takes your breath away. Now that it is the most beautiful town, it has information panels and very good signage. As you walk through its streets you come across small, very original museum-like buildings where you can see an oven, a mill, etc. as they once were. (Translated by Google) Extraordinary natural work formed by the waters of the Nela River. It is a bridge-shaped hole about 50 or 60 meters long through which the waters of the aforementioned river pass. According to legend, the ancient inhabitants of the place believed that this was a divine work and called it Puente de Dios, which with the passage of time and the derivation of the lexicon became what is currently known as Puentedey. Playa de Trengandín is a stunning 3.7-mile stretch of golden sandy beach with clear waters and low tide rock pools, making it perfect for families. The area also features a medieval Roman bridge with five arches, offering a glimpse into history. Visitors can enjoy the shallow waters and collect crabs when the tide is down, while also taking advantage of amenities such as sun umbrellas and chairs available for hire.
Long, clean, sandy beach. The water is shallow and when the tide is down kids can reach the rocks and collect little black crabs. Locals take their chairs and sun umbrellas but these can also be hired. There is a small library for those who forgot their books at home or would like to check the papers. Plenty of bars and restaurants around to grab a quick bite; many offer roast chicken for take away, however this has to be ordered 2 hours in advance.

Sleek beautiful beach in Noja, much less rocky and considerably wider that its neighbourg beaches. Splendorous fierce sky, poetic and intimidating at the same time. Charming vibe of children flying their kites.

Playa de Berria is a 2km-long, Blue Flag beach with white sand facing the Bay of Biscay. It's popular for swimming, sunbathing, and surfing. The beach offers amenities like bathrooms, showers, food, and hotels nearby. Despite being cooler and windier than the South of Spain, it boasts unbounded beauty and diverse landscapes. Visitors can enjoy fantastic views and explore cliffs and caves during low tide.
This is a fantastic beach and one of the best i have ever seen. It is my favorite stop in Spain. The cliffs and caves during low tide are Magic. Free parking. Beautiful sand and colour of water. But the caves on the right side are unreal. Go during low tide.
Trevor L — Google review
lovely big sandy beach with dramatic headland - and a prison at the other end! great for dogs, very quiet (Early April).
Andrew W — Google review
So many of the northern beaches of Spain are gorgeous, but this is just the most beautiful. Very beach just west of Santoña
Blanca B — Google review
Even more than the beach itself, which is awesome, I liked a lot all the way to come here, passing the bridges over the marshland. The beach is very wild and it was my first time surfing here. High quality waves altough its quite overcrowed...even in low season. We were like 60 people for 2 peaks.
Rutas A — Google review
Beautiful beach, very wide and deep, so lots of space. Would recommend . There is a prison right behind the beach!
Jonathan M — Google review
We stayed here in an apartement right at the beach for a bit more than a week in April. It's a very nice, very clean beach. Wide and long. Fantastic views left and right. It's the Spain's North, so it's cooler and windier than in the more popular South. But for us the North is more interesting, it has lots of charm and so many different landscapes. Great food as well and lots of beautiful villages. Some days it was pretty windy and the sand blew in our faces, on other days perfectly calm and even warm for April. A great beach to walk on (too cold for us to swim in springtime). Morning and/or afternoons. Even though dogs are officially banned, in the off-season almost everybody had their dog with. Good for us, so our Bulldog was able to have some fun on the beach as well. Even though lots of dogs, the beach was spotless clean. Everybody picks up after their pets and pretty much nobody leaves any trash behind. Please do so as well when visiting. There are plenty of (free) parking lots along the beach. And in Spring, especially in times of Covid-19, there were always lots of empty spaces to park. Even on warm sunny days the numbers of visitors were very low. A lovely, quiet beach. That will change in summertime, judging by other photos. It also seems to be a great spot for surfing and windsurfing. A surf school is even located on the eastern end of the beach (as well as a prison: they must have great views from their cells). A really fantastic beach. Loved it. It was a joy to walk here daily and/or just enjoy the views of it. Also a very safe spot, never felt strange even in the middle of the night. So, if you visit Santona, head for this lovely beach...or try to stay a few nights even.
Alex H — Google review
If you are in Santoña, you must visit this beach. It is big and beautiful.

Faro del Caballo

Lighthouses
Faro del Caballo is a stunning destination located near the fortress of San Felipe. The coastal cliffs offer breathtaking views, making it a worthwhile trek for nature enthusiasts. However, accessing the lighthouse requires descending and climbing over 500 stairs, so visitors should be physically fit. Despite the challenging hike, the opportunity to kayak and swim in the caves makes it all worthwhile. Additionally, Santona offers clean waters for swimming and beautiful landscapes to explore.
Can't believe this isn't part of the Camino del Norte route. We took a detour to visit this amazing coastline and take a dip in the pristine water...boy were we spoilt.
Marli L — Google review
Amazing views! Easy hike but be ready for the stairs!
Daisylyn R — Google review
SHAME ON THE ORGANISATION Going there is disappointing as you need tIcket, which in google says 15 eur on other Homepage it is free.. IN FAQ OF THE FARRO IT SAYS no need for ticket .. But anyway the official homepage does not really say anything, the Sign on the street are tiny and almost not notable half the way .. FRUSTRATING ,DUMP AND ANNOYING going there more than an hour and then no entrance.. Some signs are unmotivated and really hard to see and find .. on the maps there is no information at all. Maybe local tourist information thinks tourists better not to inform in a proper way?? SHAME ON THE PEOPLE WHO DECIDED THIS, poor girl who works there an explains hundreds of frustrated tourists the sorry you cannot enter. And why 50 person limit per hour? Security only problems for some hours a day, the rest of the time it is not dangerous?? Or why ? The picture shows frustrated tourists not allowed to enter ..
Norbert E — Google review
Incredible hike! Not too challenging for athletes but those not used to hiking or running may find it challenging, especially the way back. The rope swing at the end is awesome as well! Bring bug spray during the summer because the trail is thick with horseflies. Luckily, for those without repellent, the entrance at the top of the stairs has extra if you go during normal hours.
Ryan J — Google review
Beware this is like a 12k walk up a mountain and in some parts are rockies then you have a 700 downwards steps leading to the most impressive views and if y like you can take a plunge in to the sea. Now the going up is challenging, if you are not in good cardio think about going down make sure have good hiking shoes and bring plenty of water. good luck have fun and be careful.
Frank — Google review
It is probably great but you need to get a free ticket from limited pool of 100 per every 2 hours. Unfortunately we didn’t know about it and we were not allowed to get down to the lighthouse and missed main part of our trip :( Maybe we will have a chance to come back someday.
Piotr K — Google review
Beautiful and stunning place to go to. It was also incredibly fun to jump in the water and swim around. The water was a little harsh so someone going in should definitely know how to swim well. The only negative thing about this place is that the hike to get there was extremely tiring. About two miles but all on cobble road and uphill and then a set of 700+ really sketchy stairs.
Elliot — Google review
It's free to visit, however you need to book the passage of the 763 stairs during the summer months. It's not for the faint hearted! My daughter did the stairs down then back up in about 30 mins. The track up to the top of the stairs is uneven, but easy to follow.

Pozalagua Cuevas

Mentioned on

Nature & Parks
Caverns & Caves
Pozalagua Cuevas, located in the western part of the Basque Country, is a fascinating cavern discovered by accident in 1957. It has become a popular tourist destination due to its extraordinary stalactites and stalagmites that resemble a richly decorated cathedral. The cave is known for its high concentration of eccentric stalactites growing in irregular directions, creating a unique and beautiful sight.
This is the most extraordinary and spectacular stalactite cave I have ever seen. It has not only the normal vertical dripping stalactites that I have seen before, but also a lot of long and curved stalactites that look like vines. Our guide went into great detail about the journey to this cave, where photography is basically not allowed, especially with flash, as the light and humidity affect the environment in which the stalactites are formed. However, there are some special spots where photographs are allowed and the guide will inform you when you can take it. This was a wonderful experience to enjoy the beautiful of the nature.
Evan M — Google review
As a caver from the Uk & has experienced lots of international caving expeditions & lots of tourist caves too I was blown away with the size & amount of helictites. The guide was super friendly & the handheld translation devise worked really well. Definitely worth the money & the 5star rating
Paul F — Google review
A geologist's dream cave in the beautiful valley of Carranza. Many different formations, including rare eccentric stalactites. Beautiful!
Nerea V — Google review
The cave is absolutely spectacular, and one of the best I've been to. However, there is one major problem for English speakers - the translations provided are terrible. Our group was provided with two speakers for translations - unfortunately there were four of us, so this was unworkable. An app is available, but it is unusable. It needs internet access to download the content (not available underground), GPS to locate you (also not available underground), or QR codes to scan to show the translation (not enough light in the cave to scan the QR codes, and the app disables your phone light). It is also a stupid AR app, which attempts to show the translations at knee height. I'd have preferred it if they just said no translation available, to avoid wasting my time with the app. Alternatively, just provide us with a sheet of paper with the translation.
Rich S — Google review
An amazing place. Before you go inside the cave, you can walk around outside, beautiful views of the mountains, there is a small restaurant, a park, bathrooms, and the old quarry. The scale of it, with its vertical walls of stone is a must see. Entering the caves is by guided tours of 50 people max. You must reserve ahead of time. The guides are very informative, there are hand rails and non slippery walkways. Absolutely no photography allowed, primarily for your own safety and to make sure the group stays together. But they eventually let you, when it's deemed appropriate, and then you will be able to capture photos of the rock formations, take selfies or panoramics. Doing it before, will get you an immediate removal. What you will experience will stay in your memory forever, no photos or words can describe it.

Excellent experience, they have moving dinasours zoo restaurant Park for children from American caimen to a hand size monkey they have a lot of things. Parking is free. It's very economical. We were 3 adults and 4 children one over 10 years we paid just 50 Euros something. Need a car to go there is no other transport.
Babar خ — Google review
Nice place to see animals with kids, not crowded at all (went in August in the middle of holiday period). The food is not great at all though, but it's to be expected in this kind of places. And it is true that some areas are to be refurbished (so they say on their website). We liked the fact that all the animals have been rescued, it's not a zoo and they are trying to be like one. To my opinion it's worth a visit!
Delphine B — Google review
Fantastic animals but terrible dinosaur and mysterious creature parks with no maintenance. Statues of dinosaurs seem abandoned with their paintwork peeling off, and the children's playground seems a hundred years old. Worst of all, the souvenir shop is a rip off although entrance tickets aren't expensive.
C G — Google review
The worst thing about this place is the food served in the bar/restaurant. It's expensive to start with but apart from that, it's got hardly any choice and if you don't want dry, tough lomo, a chewy escalope, or an omelette (all served with cardboard-esque frozen chips straight out of the deep fat fryer!), you'll be struggling! It's self service, something which was surprising, given that the guy inside was just sat at the bar looking at his mobile every time I looked inside! Anyway, as for the place itself, it has a wide range of animals which, although in captivity, looked to be reasonably well cared for. The birds, however, were all in small enclosed areas where they couldn't fly. The dinosaur section is nice for kids and provides a fair bit of basic information about the different species. Good place for 2-3 hours with the kids but not a place to spend the day.
Tom B — Google review
A centre where keeps animals and mainly some injured wild animals or abandoned exotic vets. Good place to go with children, that like animals with place to eat, playgrounds for infants, todlers, kids and youngsters. Includes a zone with robotic dinosaurs for the brave children.

Great place to go with children. Lots of animals to see and some dinosaurs too. Very cheap and has its own place to eat.

Horrible restaurant. They took our order, charged us for it and then took more than two hours to serve it. When we complained they said that was the way they work. There's no other place to eat in the park and if you leave you have to pay again to get back in.

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Vizcaya Bridge, also known as Puente Colgante, is a monumental iron structure that connects the neighborhoods of Las Arenas and Portugalete over the Estuary of Bilbao. This architectural marvel was completed in 1893 and was the world's first transporter bridge to carry both people and traffic on a high suspended gondola. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its significance as an icon of industrial architecture.
This is a spectacular hanging bridge which you cross the river on a platform. It has been in operation since the late 1800s, which is amazing. The platform takes about 4 cars, bikes and passengers. It only cost €0.95 for a person and a bike! Definitely a must do. It runs every 5 mins, and you can spend a lot of time just watching it travel back and forward. Even for those non-Engineers out there it is something special. There are less than 10 of these hanging bridges world wide, so no wonder it is a UNESCO site.
Simon R — Google review
Very interesting piece of architecture / engineering. Pretty iconic in Bilbao. We went on the hanging gondola, but you can get the lift up to the top and walk across. Apparently this was in the original design but wasn't added until much later
Tony E — Google review
An interesting architecture bridge with a hanging gondola. If you have few hours to spare while in Bilbao. Recommend to take a train or metro to Portugalete and visit the site. Take the chance and go up the elevator and cross by foot on the top wooden platform, excelente views.
Ilan H — Google review
The bridge spans the estuary of the Ría de Bilbao where it meets the sea, in the province of Biscay (Basque Country), northern Spain. It connects the towns of Portugalete and Getxo. The Bizkaia Bridge is the world’s first metal-structure transporter bridge (also called a ferry-bridge), where a gondola (platform) carries vehicles and pedestrians across the river beneath a high span. Designed by engineer Alberto Palacio (with assistance from Ferdinand Arnodin) and inaugurated on 28 July 1893. It is considered a landmark of industrial-era iron architecture and engineering.
YOGESH S — Google review
Inexpensive, fun, educational ride across the river on a "ferry" platform suspended over the river by a gantry crane operating between the two shore towers. One of only 5 of these 1880s "flying ferries" for cars an d people still in operation.
Christopher H — Google review
Crossing is very affordable at 0.55€ each, getting the lift to walk on the top is 10€ each. The views from the top are amazing, plus very high, with gaps in the wooden boards as you walk, can be a bit scary. Also when the hanging platform crosses its rocks the upper platform!
Gary O — Google review
The view from the bridge is very nice. It is worth going up, walking to the other side of the river, and then coming back by the cable ferry
Olga G — Google review
Really interesting piece of infrastructure if you’re into that thing. It’s only €0.55 to cross on the gondola, you can pay about €8 to walk across along the top but I couldn’t convince my friends to do it with me.

Waterfalls
Salto del Nervion is a breathtaking 222-meter waterfall nestled in a picturesque setting with hiking trails and the remnants of a monastery. It's the highest waterfall in the Iberian Peninsula, located in the Cantabrian Mountains on the border of Basque Country and Castile and Leon. The waterfall is active for about two months during the rainy season but remains stunning throughout the year due to its beautiful canyon.
No water at autumn. We were there on September 30, 2024. River is dried and no waterfall:( There are 3 parking spots. First in the forest before the entrance, second in 1 km and the last one by very bad road for another 1,4 km. After that 2 km you need to walk. But better to come in spring to see the water
Tonolga S — Google review
Beautiful! You need to put in google maps the destination “parking hoyalante”, from there there’s a road you can take by car to parking 2 and 3. From the 3rd parking it’s a 30 minutes walk, very easy but bring water because it’s under the sun and quite hot during summer. Unfortunately there wasn’t any water, but the view is still gorgeous !
Giulia A — Google review
Nice walk, amazing views! For the waterfall remember to check the weather, it needs to rain for 3 days prior to make the waterfall.
Alter E — Google review
No water during summer months, but amazing point of view. Just important to check if the road to the parking is open. In cas not it mean a 5 km walk on the road, quite flat.
Michel M — Google review
Spectacular natural site with easy access, which means it can get crowded on weekends and holidays. There are three parking lots available and there is a 1.8 km hike from the closest one to the lookout. Note that the waterfall may have little water (or nothing at all) if it has been dry the previous days.
Daniel F — Google review
Scenic canyon! One of the "must see" places in this region. Highly recommended. When we were there, there was no waterfall due to the dry period, the river also disappeared. As the locals said, the river appears 50-90 days a year, because it gets water from rains only
Evgeny G — Google review
VERY BEAUTIFUL!!! We got there and there was a parking area which was great. Since it was extremely muddy, the roads were closed. We ended up going on foot since there was a small grassy area. The walk was about 5km. We saw people also went on bike as well. Even if there is no water for the waterfall, the view was DEFINITELY worth the walk. You will not regret it at all. I have never seen such a beautiful view in my life!
