War museum
Museums
Bangsbo Fort, situated on a hilltop plateau in Frederikshavn, Denmark, offers a fascinating journey through military history. Originally constructed by the Germans during World War II to safeguard their supply routes to Norway, the fort is now home to canons and rich historical exhibits. Visitors can explore bunkers and learn about the fort's role during different periods, including its use as a control center in the Cold War era.
Very very nice place, Many Bunkers and a cool ship!, Just try not to wander into Military territory, Also the MP May be watching you most of the time (MP Meaning Military Police,) Due to it being right besides a Military base. Suggestion to owners: Would it be possible to start a GoFundMe Page or something for the Lapperdykkeren, I really love her, And its sad to see her in this state, I think Not only me, But many others would be willing to donate so she can be put into a safer condition, Or maybe even restored.
Bastian C — Google review
Bangsbo Fort is located on a hilltop plateau on the southern outskirts of Frederikshavn, and the vantage point 82 metres above sea level provides a remarkable view out over Frederikshavn and the waters of the Kattegat. On clear days, the it is possible to see all the way to both Skagen and Læsø.
Leandro S — Google review
My second visit here and ever bit as cool as my first. I wish I could donate a million $ to help them restore the bunkers .

Very nice former nazi military base in denmark 卐🇩🇰

One of the most coolest places in Denmark I've been watching at bunkers and also in one of the bunkers you get too hear how is was to be questioned by the Danish gestspo during the 2. World War, "that's a very though challenge to get through" so if you are strong mentally you should go for it and it is not for everyvody. My experience was very scary. But you also get a lot of information about how they used the area. So I totally recommend it to anyone is interested in both photography and history.

Definitely worth a visit! :)
Andrea K — Google review
Military history at its best! South of Frederikshavn is the 80 meter high hill Pikkerbakken where the German Kriegsmarine had a group of bunkers built during WWII to protect the harbor. In 1944 the bunkers were armed with Krupp cannons from the Danish artillery ship Niels Juel. After the Danish Navy took over the facilities at the end of WWII, Bangsbo Fort became an important control center during the heyday of the Cold War (1952-1962). The Danish navy still controls shipping traffic in the Kattegat and Skagerak from this hill. Since 2005, the part of the hill with the old bunkers has been open to the public, the cannons have been restored and the Kystmuseet opened its doors. And that is only to be welcomed, because the museum and bunkers are absolutely worth a visit!

Interesting museum with lots of historia about the bunkers from WWII. Well preserved and worth the visit. One part you can visit for free.

Voergaard Slot is a 16th-century moated castle famous for its ornate furnishings and decorative-arts collection. The castle is steeped in history, with rumors of ghosts adding to its allure. A visit to this castle during Christmas reveals the Danes' love for the festive season and the concept of HYGGE.
Beautiful location. We stopped by on a trip to Skagen to have a picnic. Access to the grounds is free. We didn’t go inside as it is tour guide only and we missed the English speaking tour.
Nick C — Google review
Very interesting tour of the castle 🏰 exciting to hear of the history from beginning of 1500’s and to the present ⭐️ many well kept objects such as paintings and furniture. Especially taken by the leather wallpaper in the golden room from 1750 🤩

A good intact in Renaissance style castle. They give tours, it’s beautiful outside the building and inside there is a lot of history to fin. There are also some artworks from famous painters.

It was a nice experience. I would have liked the events outside the castle to last throughout the summer. The rest of the area is very relaxing.

An absolute joy to visit and a step back in time. See an old Danish castle with lovely grounds around it and interesting things to view inside. Especially recommended when they have a theme, Christmas, Halloween and Middle Ages are some of the themes I've experienced and they make for a great day!
Martin N — Google review
Interesting castle with a chequered history stretching over 5 centuries. Containing lots of French historical furniture, Napoleon’s china set and a Goya, Ruebens and Raphael painting, this is definitely a place worth a detour.

Den Tilsandede Kirke

Mentioned on
1 list
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Den Tilsandede Kirke is a Gothic-style church tower ruin built in the 14th century, located on a beautiful sand dune. It offers visitors the opportunity to climb up into the old tower for stunning views of the surrounding landscape, which can be enjoyed from benches outside if climbing isn't possible. The site also features demarcations outlining the original perimeter of the church and is an intriguing destination when combined with nearby sites showcasing how sand dominates and moves across the region.
If you came to Skagen, you should come here. A church that is standing alone in the sand in a remote place. Amazing. You can go inside and climb a tower like this so far. Be careful, the stairs are quite steep and small. And the road to here is a trail, but there are not many people, so it may be a little difficult to come alone. I liked it because I rode my bike.
웅냥냥 — Google review
Very interesting site, short hike. It was fairly crowded and a bit of a wait to climb the tower. The tower is very narrow. Lots of barn swallows!
Heather W — Google review
Stunning historical gem! The sand-buried church tower offers a unique glimpse into Skagen’s past. Scenic dune views, peaceful walk, and a cozy vibe. Perfect for history buffs! Highly recommend.
Andres P — Google review
At this beautiful place I felt as if all my prayers and wishes of the soul were being heard. It carries a unique calm and strength. Seeing how the church withstands the forces of nature while slowly being swallowed by the sand filled me with both admiration and courage – it is a true symbol of resilience and faith. Only the tower remains today, as the rest of the church was completely buried by shifting sand dunes. Still, the spirit of history is alive here – the church was originally built in the 14th century and once ranked among the largest in the region. There is a parking area nearby, everything is well maintained and clean, including restrooms, which is a big plus. The place is easy to reach and the atmosphere at sunset is absolutely magical. 🌅 Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience a touch of mystery and a deep connection with both nature and history.
LétovItálii — Google review
Interesting historical landmark. It's free and you can climb up to the rafters and enjoy the view. Nice walking trails in the surrounding park as well.
Matthias H — Google review
If you are expecting to see sand half way up windows and doors you will be very disappointed. The tower is almost completely visible and main body of the church was actually demolished, not buried. It's a nice walk to a pretty tower but that's about it.
Jane M — Google review
If you are travelling to Skagen, you should make a quick stop to see this small, but beautiful church!. Beautiiful photos are garanti and you get to see families of doves flying around too. If you go upstairs you 'll have a great view of the area through the church's windows. Keep in mind that the stairs going up, are not that many, but is a bit tight to go through them. Overall, this church is worth a visit!.
Effi A — Google review
Den Tilsandede Kirke, or *The Sand-Covered Church*, in Skagen is one of those places that feels almost unreal — a hauntingly beautiful reminder of nature’s quiet power over human ambition. Standing alone amid rolling dunes and whispering pines, only the stark white tower remains visible today, rising like a ghost of the past above the sand that swallowed the rest of the structure centuries ago. The walk to the site through the windswept trails is peaceful and meditative, and as you approach the church, there’s an eerie stillness that makes you imagine the villagers once digging it out after each storm. It’s not just a historical landmark; it’s a story etched into the landscape — of resilience, loss, and the slow reclamation of human effort by nature. The site isn’t flashy or crowded, but that’s its charm — it’s raw, atmospheric, and strangely moving, especially during sunset when the light turns the dunes golden and the church tower glows softly like a relic of another era. Cryptic??? here you go 1_4m_th3_crypt1c_k1ng Well done!

Råbjerg Mile is a massive sand dune covering 2 square kilometers, making it the largest migrating dune in Denmark and the largest of its kind in Europe. Situated between Skagen and Frederikshavn, this desert-like landscape offers a unique hiking experience with diverse fauna and stunning views. Visitors can hike to the top for panoramic vistas of the surrounding area, including seas on both ends.
This caught us with surprise, it’s like a dessert out of nowhere, super fun to walk/run/slide , kids enjoy a lot, though it was in spring and the temperature around 5C , we did manage to have fun, but would definitely love to go there in early summer. There is parking for all kind of vehicles, There are no toilets near by, And there is a lot of walking to do. A must visit place if you are around skagen area.
NKN 1 — Google review
Wonderful surprise in middle of greenland. With nice sunny weather and strong wind we were like on Arrakis from Dune books/movies :-) It's really nicely photogenic place and the sand is everywhere, although the sand is not as fine as the one you can find on Sahara desert, but that is not a negative, just an observation. Plenty of fun especially for kids and dogs.
Milan P — Google review
Climbing this enormous dune – one of the higher spots in otherwise flat Denmark – rewards you with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and the sea. Sitting on top of a dune in northern Denmark was not what I expected when planning our road trip, yet it turned out to be one of the most powerful experiences. As you watch the ever-changing scenery, with untamed sand trying to conquer the local vegetation, you realize that fighting nature is impossible. Nature always finds its way – and compared to it, we are so small. It is a deeply grounding feeling, mixing freedom, defiance, and strength. Absolutely stunning. I highly recommend stopping here, taking a quiet moment, and letting the power of the dune resonate within you – a force that follows its own path, no matter what.
LétovItálii — Google review
A truly fascinating place — a stunning desert in the middle of nowhere that felt straight out of Dune! The vast white landscape, complete silence, and the feeling of complete isolation made it an unforgettable experience. We were the only ones there, and it felt almost otherworldly. Absolutely magical — we’ll definitely be back ✨
Evelina V — Google review
Amazing place of nature beauty. I recommend coming either in Avery early morning or off season, otherwise your experience may be impacted by the crowds.
Daniel O — Google review
A huge sand dune 14 km from Skagen. It felt like being in the desert. It takes about an hour to walk there and back. Good free parking, as well as toilets. It's a nice experience to go there.
Bjørg S — Google review
Surreal! Very unexpected to find an actual and dune in Denmark. It really feels like a scene from a movie based in an African or Arabian desert. The sand is soft and clean. With a stop for an hour or so on the way to or from Skagen
Michael L — Google review
The closest thing to a desert you can come to experience in Scandinavia. When walking here in this dune it is almost like walking in a mini Sahara. But climb one of the small hills and you are presented with at stunning view of the nearby area

The zoo participates in breeding programs for endangered species and supports wildlife preservation initiatives. A nice zoo, not so big but it has what's needed to get a good day there.
Tony K — Google review
The Zoo is a nice size zoo that has great exhibits. A few of them actually allow you to walk within the exhibit as long as you stay on the path. Well laid out paths. Plenty of parking in a grass lot just past the zoo entrance. Buy your tickets online prior to your arrival and save a little money!
Sara M — Google review
Great zoo experience with something for all ages. From dinosaurpark to pettingzoo, inovative varied information and some very friendly staff who are also very invested in telling about the different animals and their stories. Their food could do with some more quality vs pricelevel though.
Jesper R — Google review
Aalborg Zoo is a fantastic family-friendly destination! We had a wonderful time exploring the zoo with our kids. They were thrilled to see the impressive dinosaur exhibit, which sparked their imagination. The highlight for them was definitely the big cats – the tigers and lions were magnificent. We also enjoyed watching the zebras and giraffes, and the penguins were absolutely adorable. The lemurs added a playful touch to our visit. The zoo offers a great variety of animals and plenty of interactive experiences for children. Highly recommended for a fun-filled family day out!
F. A — Google review
It was okay, but the animals I wanted to see was sleeping :)… OMG, the otters were so cute. I would definitely go again.
Vegard — Google review
A truly fantastic experience! I loved the focus on rare and endangered species like the magnificent Asian lions and Bornean orangutans. The zoo balances serious conservation with family fun; the Dinosaur Land exhibit, with its life-size characters, was an absolute highlight that the children loved. A must-visit attraction for anyone in the region!
Himakkaradi — Google review
2025-10-15 - Far from being the best zoo we have visited (family of 5 persons). It wasn’t a bad experience, but not really good either. We spend 4 hours here and was asked several times by our kids when should leave (age 10, 7 and 4). There was a Halloween theme, which was made quite well, but sadly it wasn’t enough to change our experience. Also parking the car was a mess as there wasn’t enough parking spots.

Really had a good time at this place . They have quite a good range of animals . You can easily spend upto 3 hours. A lot of eating place and kids play area . The place is kept quite clean and organized . And jot far from the city center.

Vikingemuseet Lindholm Høje

Museums
Vikingemuseet Lindholm Høje is a modern museum that offers a fascinating insight into Viking culture and history. The museum features exhibitions that showcase how the Vikings lived during the Iron and Viking Ages, including their diet, religious beliefs, agricultural practices, and daily lives. Visitors can explore remarkable reconstructions, panoramas, illustrations, and 3D animations based on recovered relics. Additionally, the museum houses unique artifacts from the Viking Age.
One of the most interesting Viking heritage sites I have seen. It has a museum, graveyard, village and field (ruins/outlines). It may look like piles and scattered rocks but is much more interesting than so. The shapes and sizes have different meaning. The museum has a lot of different archaeological artefacts and exebition from the Iron age to the middle ages.
Sick M — Google review
If you’re at all interested in Viking history, you must visit Lindholm Viking Museum! The site is incredibly well-preserved, offering a fascinating glimpse into Viking life and burial traditions. The museum itself is modern, informative, and thoughtfully curated—perfect for both casual visitors and history enthusiasts. The surrounding landscape adds to the atmosphere, making it a truly immersive experience.
Thomas M — Google review
Excellent museum with English/German/French translation. Not for all exhibits though. Possibly the best I've seen for stone age - bronze age - iron age and into early medieval/viking age. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Tim ( — Google review
The museum is relatively well done. That is to say for its size. It's visually appealing and offers interesting information about both the area right next to it, as well as the Limfjorden area more generally.
Floris H — Google review
Nice place, but could be bigger, though the grounds are good and with good views as well. Always loved the area
Mads M — Google review
Nice museum with two expositions. Lot of explanations but only in Danish, English and sometimes German and French.
Bart B — Google review
It's a small and nice visit. There some interactive bits to simulate a fire in a house, also a part with a video how to make a weapon from stone and then you get to see how it looks like. Its not mandatory to pay the museum to see the vicking graveyard but kinda complementa well and does not take much time and is not very expensive.
Filipa P — Google review
The Viking Museum in Aalborg impresses with its view of the ancient burial site and its engaging presentation of Viking life. It displays excavated objects and reconstructions that help visitors understand the historical and cultural context of the time. The North Sea Oceanarium

Mentioned on

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The North Sea Oceanarium, located in North Jutland, is one of Europe's largest aquariums showcasing a diverse range of marine life from the North Sea. Visitors can observe seals in an outdoor basin and even interact with sea creatures at the touch pool. The town of Hirtshals, where the aquarium is situated, also offers scenic views from the picturesque lighthouse, sandy beaches, and local restaurants serving fresh seafood and traditional Danish dishes.
It was cold and grey outside and very windy when we decided to go to The North Sea Oceanarium. It was a good decision. There’s lots to see and do and it’s particularly good for families, but everyone will enjoy it. The tanks are enormous and many of the fish are too. Photo shows some sharks. The smallest creature we met was living in a tiny pipe and only coming out to eat hand fed mussels- he’s not keen on shrimps. The café looked good if you wanted lunch and there’s a really nice area for picnics if you bring your own food you can sit inside or out. We had an ice cream near the seal’s pool area outside. It was very easy to spend half a day there and I could have been there longer. Your ticket is valid for a year- if only we could come back.
Zoe N — Google review
Amazing aquarium, world class! The building was huge, and a full day was needed to experience most of the tanks and activities. The focus is on the North Sea, with several rare and unusual environments and exhibitions. The animals seamed to be healthy and well taken care of. The animals and plants together with knowledgeable staff, interactive activities (a machine to test if you are as strong as a lobster! …or a small beach crab), crab fishing for small kids, a huge calming open-sea tank the whole experience was wonderful. Make sure to not miss the feeding session performed with a real scuba diver!
Olof J — Google review
The Oceanarium was a delightful and informative place to visit, with many different fish and creatures to see and many interactive things for children to do as well. The feeding time at the main tank was interesting and I thought it was nice that there was a guide there to tell the audience about the tank and the different fish. The café was small but they offered many tasty options. The outside areas were also clean and free of seagulls!
Tiia R — Google review
A nice aquarium that shows the local Ocean life. The interactive activities that they have are fun and grateful for kids. We were lucky. It was not busy so they could easily participate in everything.. the downside of this was that we were out of the park relatively quickly
Nick E — Google review
We had a great time at this aquarium. It was absolutely huge and there was so much to see. We went there with our baby (11 months) and it was not busy at all so we could let her crawl in the quiet areas so she could explore it herself. The feeding show in the big aquarium is a must see, the biologist that dove in to feed the fish was so cool to see.
Lotte R — Google review
The biggest oceanarium on northern Europe - the sign stands for something and it is really big and there is lots of things and activities to see, try, educate and enjoy, especially for kids. The seals were fun, feeding of the fishes in the biggest tank as well and it is really one big enjoyment and learning opportunity in one nice package. Worth a visit if you have time to spend waiting for your ferry to Norway or Island.
Milan P — Google review
Lovely aquarium to visit, we visited with our 5 year old and there is a nice mix of kids activities and ocean sealife to exhibit. The food at this place has no right to be this good. We were expecting cafeteria food but the fish and chips was surprisingly some of the best I've had in years. Well fried, not oily and springled well with a bit of sea salt. YUM! All the other dishes I've seen looked very appetizing as well. The only downside I can think of is that while the toilets are clean, and during our stay we saw them cleaned twice. They stink quite badly. I suspect because for the standing men toilets they use no water which stinks up the place maybe?
Robin J — Google review
A nice experience. The oceanarium also takes its responsibility to educate the visitors on the negative impact of fishing and the humans in general. Very interactive, interesting — also for kids of all ages. Highlight is the seal feeding. 🦭

Lighthouses
Hirtshals Fyr, an ancient lighthouse dating back to 1870, is a prominent landmark in the picturesque town of Hirtshals. Perched on the rocky coastline, it offers breathtaking views of the ocean and houses the local Maritime Museum. Accessible via a well-marked 600-meter trail leading to the beach, this attraction also provides insight into WW2 relics with old trench lines and bunker rooms to explore.
A great place to visit especially on a sunny day. To go on top you have to pay a ticket, otherwise you can just walk around the lighthouse, directly on the beach or next to the WWII bunkers located nearby
Pier W — Google review
Our visit to Hirtshals Lighthouse was short, as we were caught in heavy rain and a storm – but even in this dramatic weather, the lighthouse looked absolutely majestic. Its bright white tower rises above the coast with a calm strength, and you can instantly feel its importance as a guide for sailors on the rough North Sea. Even without climbing to the top (the storm made it impossible for us), just standing in front of it was impressive. The surrounding buildings are beautifully maintained and add to the charm of the place.
LétovItálii — Google review
The lighthouse is picturesque and I visited on a day with blue skies and snow. The views to the windswept coastline stunning. Added bonus is the incredible open air bunker museum which surrounds the lighthouse. Great informative plaques and one has been set up with bunk beds and furniture to show what they would have looked like in WWII.

Beautiful and wild place , we were there on May and was almost empty. Big area. Nice beach , but very windy. Really beautiful and amazing sea ! Nice views and great time for my family! You have to try seafood in nearby restaurants 🍤

The lighthouse was nice and the surrounding former defense works were really amazing to walk around
Nick E — Google review
Beautiful lighthouse with inexpensive fee to enter the inside and not so many stairs to get up there. We were lucky nobody was around and could enjoy the lighthouse and it's surroundings to ourselves.
Milan P — Google review
Amazing, definitely recommend. Little bit pricey but worth the climb. The view is spectacular. Just watch out for your heart and if you’re afraid of high places I would not go there. However if you are nog afraid of heights and you do not have heart problems take the climb and take in the amazing views.
Axel H — Google review
This lighthouse was really great to visit! The place is really picturesque and typical Danish. The view from the top is fantastic! Best part with our visit was that Søfartsstyrelsen was doing their annual service and the technician was really great explaining how it all worked. Even better was that we were temporarily allowed to go all the way up into the glass portion. This was absolutely amazing and a once in a time opportunity! We really appreciated being allowed this opportunity because our kids were amazed by it also.

(Translated by Google) Great place to spend time with your children, family and friends etc. We always have a good time. The staff are decent and pleasant to be around. Smiling and welcoming. Entrance and food, like all other theme parks, are way too high. So we usually bring food from home. But besides this I/we have nothing. To "complain" about me/us. It is clean and nice in the park. And the park we have visited the most, as there is something for all ages. At "brokke" mig/os over. Det er rent og pænt i parken. Og den park vi har besøgt mest, da der er noget for alle aldre.

(Translated by Google) With a 'neighbor' which in some cases is only an extra hour's drive away, Djurs Sommerland, this may have to be considered if you are an adult playboy, because the number of attractions for adults is limited. Price level is on par with other Parkers = too high = everyone is carrying a hunchback with cooler bag etc. Small appeal - find the reasonable prices because we guests don't actually want to drag the fridge with us from home (the ones we know) and then we'll probably have to buy a delicious salad/sandwich or the like. Then there is just one website that didn't work on the day we were supposed to use it to buy tickets with a discount, but it might just be bad luck - but hardly the day before this function didn't work either.

Rubjerg Knude

Mentioned on
11 lists
Sights & Landmarks
Scenic spot
Lighthouses
Rubjerg Knude is a remarkable lighthouse that was constructed in 1899, but is now closed to visitors due to the impact of shifting sands and cliffside erosion. Situated on the north coast of Denmark, this iconic landmark offers stunning views over the North Sea. The area surrounding Rubjerg Knude also boasts cultural attractions such as the ancient Viking burial ground at Lindholm Hoje and the North Sea Oceanarium.
Yesterday, I visited Rubjerg Knude Fyr, and it was an unforgettable experience. The iconic lighthouse, standing tall amidst the massive sand dunes, looked like something out of a movie. Its isolated beauty against the vast blue sky made for a stunning sight. Climbing up to the top was totally worth it—the panoramic view over the North Sea and the surrounding sandy landscape was absolutely breathtaking. The shifting sands around the lighthouse give the place a surreal, almost otherworldly vibe. It’s fascinating to see how nature has shaped the area over time. Luckily there was no wind, so the walk to the lighthouse was enjoyable and peaceful. If you’re anywhere near North Jutland, this is a must-visit spot. Perfect for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone who just wants to enjoy some quiet time in a unique and scenic location.
Mahadi H — Google review
One of the most iconic and romantic places to watch the sunset on a clear sunny day in northern Denmark! 🇩🇰 You can climb up the lighthouse and walk over the huge dune until you get to the wide cliff… highly recommend!
Alexander B — Google review
Incredible to imagine that they moved the whole lighthouse 70 meters to new place where it rests now. The location and scenery of the lighthouse within the dune is just stunning and a joy for photographers heart. You can get up to the lighthouse for free, but it is about 20 minutes walk from the nearby parking lot. But definitely worth a visit, but be prepared to have sand everywhere.
Milan P — Google review
There is great park up for motorhomes to stay overnight here, which is really appreciated by us. Access from here to the lighthouse is easy and such a lovely walk. Having been here 5 years ago, it was good to see that the lighthouse stands strong against the force of Mother Nature. It was lovely to revisit.
Karen D — Google review
Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse is one of the most magical places on the Danish coast. Standing tall among endless sand dunes and overlooking the rough North Sea, it feels both majestic and fragile at the same time. The wind never stops blowing here, and the sand constantly shifts, reminding you that nothing lasts forever. The lighthouse has survived storms, moving dunes, and even an incredible journey when it was relocated further inland to save it from falling into the sea. When you stand by it, you can feel that it carries not just history, but also the spirit of resilience. The walk to the lighthouse feels almost surreal – like stepping into a desert by the ocean. The view from the cliffs is breathtaking, especially when the sky changes with the weather: dramatic clouds, golden sunsets, or the deep blue horizon.
LétovItálii — Google review
An awe-inspiring place where nature is gracefully reclaiming its space. From the cliffs, the ocean stretches endlessly, offering breathtaking views that feel almost otherworldly. The descent to the shore is not for the faint-hearted—soft sand and muddy slopes make the trek challenging and best left to the experienced. But should you reach the hidden sand beach below, the reward is pure enchantment. The scene feels far removed from Northern Europe, as if you’ve stepped into a secret paradise carved by time and tide.
Dome I — Google review
Amazing place! 🤩 Rubjerg Knude is a must-visit. The towering sand dunes and the lighthouse create a surreal and beautiful landscape. Free entry, but expect a 10–15 minute walk from the parking lot by the road. Great views and a unique spot for photos — absolutely worth the trip!
Thomas M — Google review
Amazing place! We approached from smaller parking place and when arrived to rhe dunes, the nature was a total surprise. Also liked that it was possible to climb the lighthouse. Full of amazing memories.

Hotel Lokken Beach is a charming boutique hotel located in an old schoolhouse in Lokken. The modern and beautifully furnished quarters offer balconies, and the hotel provides casual accommodations with excellent service. Guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast and dinner at the recommended restaurant nearby, which is considered one of the best in town. The hotel's friendly and professional staff ensure a pleasant stay, while its convenient location near the beach adds to its appeal.
This small hotel is very modern and beautifully furnished. Simple but to the point. I was previously in large design hotels in Malmö and Copenhagen and this hotel can definitely keep up with the interior design. The breakfast was - although out of season and no buffet - great! And the service was really outstanding. The restaurant that was recommended to us is probably the best in this very small town and the furnishings and service there were also top. Anyone who takes a road trip through Denmark should stay there.

Very happy with our experience in this hotel. Had breakfast and dinner, both deserved 5 out of 5 stars. The staff is super friendly, everything was clean and of course the hotel is located close to the beach. Great price performance ratio.
Representingweirdos — Google review
Løkken. On paper, just another little Danish seaside town. But roll in on a summer afternoon, and it hits you different—wind off the North Sea, surfers dragging boards across sand that seems to run forever, and these elegant old holiday houses that whisper money and history. It’s the kind of place where Danish families have been coming for generations, and you feel like an interloper in the best way. Skip Hirtshals. Everybody goes there for the ferry to Kristiansand, but Hirtshals is a staging post, nothing more. Løkken, twenty minutes south, is the real move. And tucked just off the main square—five minutes’ walk, close enough for action but mercifully removed from the chaos—you find Hotel Vandred. This place is a find. Small. Boutique. Rooms that are clean, pared down, exactly what you need and nothing you don’t. Bathrooms that don’t make you feel like you’re camping. That Danish knack for design: minimal, practical, but warm enough you don’t feel like you’ve checked into a furniture showroom. The kitchen is where Vandred really sings. When I rolled in, the crew was deep in mise en place—shellfish, fresh fish, the kind of seafood that smells of the sea instead of a freezer truck. A wine list that actually shows some thought. Dinner here is the sort of thing that makes you want to linger: no gimmicks, just product, technique, and respect for the ingredients. Løkken itself can get crowded—holiday families, beachgoers, the whole scene—but that’s the beauty of Vandred. You park right at the hotel, walk your bags in, grab a shower, and in five minutes you’re in the thick of town with a drink in hand. Then back to quiet when you’ve had enough. It’s the balance that makes it work. Hotel Vandred isn’t trying to be the kind of place you brag about on Instagram. It doesn’t need to. It’s the place you actually want to stay: a haven, a kitchen worth the trip, and a front-row seat to a town that’s got more character than its ferry-port neighbor ever will.

We got lucky to be in corner family suite so the balcony and room are a bit bigger than other family suites. It was meant for 6 people - 2 double bunk beds and 2 single bunk beds. We are 3 people. The room was perfect for us but the mattress and pillows were not good. Both felt like too soft due to too little fillings. I stacked three pillows and still too thin. I had to row up a blanket under the pillow. The sofa is more comfortable than the mattress. I had to sleep on the sofa to get a good night sleep. We did not try the breakfast after reading the reviews. We ate at nearby mcdonald in sorlandet senter. There are quite a lot of nice eating places in that shopping mall. Motti Thai is highly recommended. The buffet thai Thai is also not bad.
Jenny T — Google review
A unique experience, especially for children who love animals and Captain Sabeltann. The food at the hotel is very good and fresh, and the rooms have everything you need to enjoy the park, although on hot summer days there is no air conditioning and it is not advisable to stay in the room until the night air arrives. I went with my wife, my children and two dogs and it is a great help to be able to bring animals. The Captain Sabelton night show was wonderful and the kids were thrilled. The water park is a marvel for the kids as well and a very nice touch was that there were patrols offering sunscreen so you don't get sunburned.

We come to the hotel for our son's birthday and he was very happy. The room was nice, spacious, clean and the reception provide us all the informations we needed. Breakfast and dinner had a very various selection and it was impossible for the kids not put something on the plate to eat. We had a nice stay and we thank you for that.🤗

I normally stop here when I work at Dyreparken. Beautiful place, well themed, zoo right outside the front door. What's not to like? Restaurant is large and comfortable. The evening buffet has everything, as does the breakfast. Staff are outstanding. A lot of the staff have been there for years and know everything you need to know. The rooms are a reasonable size and the en suites well fitted. There are coffee /tea facilities in the room. The TV has several Norwegian channels but a lot of films and tv series are English anyway and it isn't dubbed. The photo shows the view from my room (303). The zoo is just across the car park.

Nice skiing resort, especially for #crosscountry. Some slopes are also quite nice, small compared to austrian alps. Not all slopes were opened jet, which led to waiting times of 15min at the elevators.
Klaus S — Google review
Hovden alpine skiing is a top notch place to learn your kids to ski. Area is beautiful and the slopes are easy, they have a free of charge conveyor belt for the beginners and a good variety of other slopes. We spend 2 weeks here with our 6 year old kids. They don't charge the kids for the lifts before they turn 7 year old, but remember Norway is expensive and money fly fast in every way. Maintenence cost, high salaries ect drives everything up to the extreme so be aware although the NOK is weak these days. Due to Covid19 we choose to only spend Monday to Friday there in both weeks (outside normal holiday weeks) and more or less had the place to ourselves which was super. The chair lift was the main thing open which gave a nice (and long for Norwegian standards) ride down to the bottom. We got lucky with the weather as things can get uncomfortable cold in Norway so bring the right equipment and check often on your kids (we had minus 25 first week). The rental service crew are nice and helpful along with the other staff. 🙏 As a family traveling with smaller kids I can highly recommend Hovden 🎿 For 5 stars I would have wished more slopes to be open, but it's of course understandable to limit it due to weather and lack of guests. We will probably go back! 👏🏼

Large ski resort, button lifts, t-bars and chair lift. Range of pistes, caters for all abilities. Knowledgeable and patient instructors. Bar and pizza place (OffPiste) warm and comfortable. Fairly pricey (but no worse than other resorts in Norway). Parking on site (chargeable). Lockers for ski equipment (chargeable).

Pretty cool ski resort, but over half of the resort was closed (Most of the reds to the left) but this might be due to weather or it being early in the season.

Established in 1981, it spans the vast Hardangervidda mountain plateau—often called Norway’s “rooftop”—featuring dramatic alpine scenery, moorlands, rivers, and glaciers. --- Landscape & Nature The park’s terrain includes wide plateaus, deep valleys, lakes, and glacier-fed rivers. The western section is rugged and wet, while the eastern side is flatter and drier. This variation supports a mix of alpine and Arctic ecosystems, including hardy tundra vegetation and high-altitude flora. --- Wildlife Hardangervidda hosts Europe’s largest population of wild reindeer, which roam freely across the plateau. Other notable wildlife includes moose, Arctic foxes, wolverines, and many bird species like the snowy owl and ptarmigan. --- Outdoor Activities Hiking & Trekking: A vast network of marked trails is ideal for both short walks and multi-day treks. The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) maintains cabins across the park. Fishing: The numerous lakes and rivers offer excellent trout fishing opportunities. Winter Sports: In winter, the park becomes a cross-country skiing paradise, with maintained routes and cozy lodges. Cycling: Some areas are accessible by mountain bike, offering scenic and less-traveled routes. --- Visitor Centers & Access Hardangervidda Natursenter (Øvre Eidfjord) and Hardangervidda Nasjonalparksenter (Skinnarbu) These centers provide interactive exhibits on the park’s geology, wildlife, climate, and Sami culture. Access is easy via main roads like Route 7 and the Bergen Line railway, connecting the park with Oslo and Bergen. --- Weather & Conditions (May 26, 2025) Current weather is light rain with temperatures around 2°C. Wet snow is expected in the morning, clearing later in the day. Visitors should dress in layers, carry waterproof gear, and check safety updates before setting out.

Very impressive panoramas! We passed the area on our trip from Bergen to Geilo. It was in June and it was quite cold. But how wonderful this part of Norway is. The mountains were still partly covered with snow. Astonishing beauty.

Beautiful site, tourist center gives a glimpse into nature of Norway. A new movie being shown there brought tears to my eyes appreciating the grandeur of my homeland.

My first trek in Scandinavia and i will always remember it. Be sure to take the trails appropriate to the time of the year you visit or you might end up having to do crazy thing to manage to get across some portions, be sure to have a beacon or locator app on your smartphone if you do like we did and go about the way you want even if it's not exactly the appropriate time of the year for the trail you're doing.

Stunning scenery. Great walks. We did the 4 waterfalls hike starting at the car park near the Go Karting track. Easy red way marks and signs help show you the way. Surrounding area with calm water, rapids, rocky tracks, gravel paths and forests. A variety of habitats to enjoy and savour. This is part of one of the most beautiful countries we have visited. Highly recommended a visit.

very nice hike, about 6h up and down, doable with kids if used to hike, incredible views, not dangerous

Røldal Stave Church, located in the charming village of Røldal, Norway, is a historical gem dating back to the 13th century. This wooden church is celebrated for its remarkable architecture and cultural significance. Surrounded by stunning natural landscapes including majestic mountains and cascading waterfalls, it offers a picturesque setting for visitors.
Its not every day you get to see an 800+ year old wooden church. The craftsmanship is amazing. Its also still an active church.
Adam H — Google review
A small old church, well preserved. A tourist attraction with an entrance fee a bit higher than expected. But when you think in maintenance, it has to be like that.
Arne B — Google review
Cool historic church but first time in my life that I have seen an entrance fee to a church. Have to pay 80 nok to enter. Ridiculous and offensive. It is a place of worship that is supported by government tax, why does anyone need to pay to enter.
Fikrat A — Google review
Beautiful outside, entrance fee was to steep for me to go in.
Wesley P — Google review
Went out of our way to stop here on purpose. The stavkirka looks as unrealistic in real life as it does on the photo. We didn't go inside the museum, just watched from the outside. The town itself is very quiet, peaceful and atmospheric. There are car chargers and a large grocery store nearby, which is very convenient for a stopover.
Jean — Google review
The church looks beautiful from the outside and, based on the pictures I’ve seen, the interior seems really nice as well. However, we visited as a family, and with the price being 80 NOK per person (240 NOK for us), it felt a bit too expensive, so we decided not to go inside. I also overheard several other visitors saying the same. Maybe offering a lower family ticket or donation-based entry could encourage more people to explore the inside and learn about the church’s history.
Katja R — Google review
This is well worth a visit on your way through the mountains. Situated near a good cafe and camp ground the old church is very pretty and really gives you a good sense of the architecture from an older time, it’s interesting for those that enjoy this sort of thing.
Anthony G — Google review
The Stave church is historic. It costs about $8.00 to enter. My wife went inside and said it was worth the cost. Stopped for lunch at the Shell station in town. It was fine

Trolltunga is a stunning rocky outcrop that juts out high above a lake, accessible via a challenging 27km hiking trail. The surrounding area boasts snow-capped mountains, magnificent glaciers, and breathtaking waterfalls cascading into the fjords. Visitors can also explore the Flåm Railway and Nærøyfjord, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. This region is rich in natural beauty and history, with remnants of Norway's industrial revolution and hydropower capabilities.
Absolutely amazing and gorgeous 😍 place. You can get there from parking 2 basically. Then take a shuttle bus, climb all the way along the trail or.. use via ferrata! This is in my opinion the best idea if you have enough courage to do it and are fit enough. It will shorten the whole journey significantly and give you more time to enjoy the top. The typical trail up and down is a whole day trip and pretty hard, so really be prepared for the weather. Whole experience is truly amazing and wonderful. Go for it!!!
Adrian W — Google review
The hike to Trolltunga is stunning, and so is the Trolltunga view point. I will give you my advice for coming to Trolltunga. I arrived at P2 at 6:30 and I came early to make sure to have a parking spot. When I returned to the parking at around 2 o'clock in the afternoon there were still available spaces. I must add that the hiking trail today didn't feel very busy. The waiting time at the view point was 5 minutes at 10:30 in the morning. How did I hike? From P2 I walked all the way and didn't take the shuttle bus. The road up there (same one as the shuttle bus drives) is about 2,5km and very steep. When you walk passed the shuttle bus stop on the mountain the first 2km of the trail are also steep. It's s path builed out of large rocks that form a stairway. Don't understand it, this is the hardest part of the hike. After that the trail will remain relatively flat all the way to Trolltunga. The trail is well maintained from beginning to the end, it's pretty much impossible to get lost. Just follow the metal poles and red marks "T". From P2 to Trolltunga and back without a shuttle bus is a ~26km round trip. The views along the way are gorgeous and spectacular!
Lars V — Google review
1. Planning to park at P3? Book parking slot in advance! I’m talking really in advance — we tried 10 days before our hike and every single spot was already taken. 2. The shuttle from P2 to P3 is a lifesaver. Honestly, it saved us both time and energy for the Trolltunga hike itself (ours took 3 hours up and 3 hours 5 minutes back). You can buy shuttle tickets online for the ride up. The ride down is paid on the spot after you arrive back (possible by card). 3. Think twice before bringing kids. We have two — 14 and 10 years old, both super active — but we left them at home. Best decision ever. 4. A summer rain jacket is non-negotiable. In August, the weather changed 10 times an hour — heavy rain, freezing wind, bright sun, repeat. Rocks get slippery, so sturdy hiking boots are a must, preferably fully waterproof. If it’s windy and raining, water will get everywhere, no matter what. 5. Layers are your best friend. With the weather changing so quickly, you can go from hot to freezing in minutes — and you’ll definitely feel the difference. Bottom line: exhausting, unpredictable… and 100% worth it. Enjoy every minute!
Viktorie K — Google review
Trolltunga is absolutely breathtaking! The hike is challenging—long and steep in parts—but every step is worth it for the views at the top. The cliff itself is incredible for photos and the surrounding fjords are stunning. Make sure to bring proper hiking gear, food, and water. Truly one of Norway’s most iconic and Instagram-worthy spots!
Ter N — Google review
The hike was easy for me, been here twice in 3 years, unfortunately the shuttle bus for 2 section is getting pricey. Take sufficient water and queue for the line and enjoy the view.
Dennis Z — Google review
Rather boring hike on a cloudy day and impressive queue to make a picture. We enjoyed the picnic behind the rock, such a cosy spot, you don’t see and hear the crowd. A bit overhyped, I wouldn’t do it again.
Anna C — Google review
Beautiful hike with incredible scenery all along: turquoise lakes, glacier and huge rocks. The Trolltunga is very impressive as well. Be aware on a good day there is a big queue to take pictures on the rock.
Andrei A — Google review
Hands down, one of the most scenic and picturesque places I’ve seen. It cannot be described and photos don’t do this place justice, but let’s say it’s worth every step of those 27.5 km. We parked at P2 and started our hike at 8:15. Beware, because if there is a bus coming down, you might have to park at P1 and wait there a while until they tell you you can continue, so plan this possible delay too. The first leg is definitely one of the hardest (if not the hardest) and there are two more sections along the way which might be a bit more challenging for a semi-experienced hiker. You can fill water from the streams from the first shelter onwards which is around half way to Trolltunga. We took a lot of photos, made short detours, and had two longer breaks around lakes, so it took us around 6 hours to get there. The line for taking pictures between 1 and 3pm on week days is between 30-40 minutes, although if you don’t insist on having your pictures taken on Trolltunga itself or you are in a rush, there is a smaller and similar looking rock just behind it and there might be no line for it at all. We did take pictures on both rocks. The descent took us a little over 4 hours as we kept a steady and somewhat brisk pace all the way down. Again, if you are in Norway and you are in a good enough physical condition, don’t think of skipping Trolltunga - it will be one of the most amazing natural sights you’ve ever seen!

Nestled in the stunning Hardanger region, Låtefossen Waterfall is a breathtaking natural wonder that captivates visitors with its twin streams cascading from Lake Lotevatnet. As these two powerful waterfalls converge beneath a charming 150-year-old stone bridge, they create an awe-inspiring sight that draws tourists and hikers alike. Just a short drive from Odda, this magnificent waterfall showcases the raw beauty of Norway's landscapes.
One of the beautiful place to visit, Låtefoss is full of nature's beauty. There are 3 different waterfalls there, two of them are just side by side. A rich of waterfalls. There is a kiosk just beside if two waterfalls and parking spot is there too. You can buy souvenirs and snacks and coffee. The whole area is a beautiful place and much more peaceful. A must visit place in Norway.
Maqsood A — Google review
For the best view, walk down the right side of the parking lot, opposite the falls. You’ll get a nice view with the stone bridge. If you’re on the bride, it’s difficult to get both falls together because they spread apart.
Kiara — Google review
Another unique and beautiful waterfall in Norway. There is a small kiosk beside it for souvenirs as well. Just have to be careful as their isn't that much parking and the road to cross to get to the falls and back is narrow and bust with cars.
Jehangir S — Google review
Fantastic free spot to see the waterfalls. Parking is an absolute nightmare so you're better off parking up or down the road and walking.
Jamie M — Google review
Extraordinary sight. It's a must see and worth every détour. You can feel the power and might of the waterfall while getting very close to it.

We visited in early zseptember just after heavy rains so the falls were spectacular. Very popular tourist place.
Sheila R — Google review
Låtefossen is a dramatic twin waterfall located in the Oddadalen valley near Odda, in Vestland County, western Norway. Standing at 165 meters tall, it's famous for its unique formation—two separate streams from Lake Lotevatnet join midway down a steep cliff, creating a thunderous cascade that flows under a historic stone bridge on National Road 13. --- Highlights Twin Cascades: The waterfall's twin streams originate from the same lake but descend side by side before merging—an incredibly rare and photogenic natural feature. Historic Bridge: A beautiful six-arched stone bridge, built between 1867 and 1869, sits directly under the falls. As cars drive across, they’re sprayed with mist from the waterfall. Scenic Drive: Located along National Road 13, the route through Oddadalen (often called "the valley of waterfalls") features several stunning waterfalls within a short stretch. Accessibility: Låtefossen is roadside and requires no hiking, making it perfect for a quick scenic stop with parking available nearby. --- Best Time to Visit Summer (June–August) is ideal when snowmelt boosts the waterfall’s volume, and roads are clear. Spring also offers dramatic flow but can come with more unpredictable weather. --- Getting There By Car: Located about 15 km south of Odda along National Road 13. It's well signposted and easily reachable. By Public Transport: While buses run to Odda, a car is best to access Låtefossen and other nearby waterfalls. --- Current Weather (May 26, 2025) The area is experiencing light rain with temperatures around 13°C (55°F). Waterproof clothing and care while driving on wet roads are recommended.

Nestled in the stunning Hardangerfjord region, Svandalsfossen is a breathtaking waterfall that boasts an impressive drop of 180 meters. As you travel along Fv. 520, you'll find convenient parking that allows you to embark on a short hike under a newly constructed bridge and stairway system, which was completed in 2006 as part of Norway's National Tourist Road Project.
Here is another breathtaking waterfall that you should not miss off the Scenic Route 520. In fact, you only see half of it off the road. To appreciate its beauty, you should hike up. The trail is well maintained with steel stairs. The rusty red of the stair has good contrast out off the surroundings. Nice and easy hike, you will see the full waterfall. Very very beautiful!
Lei W — Google review
Svandalsfossen has a fall of 180 meters in total. By Fv. 520 you can park and walk under the bridge to really experience the waterfall close up. In 2006 an impressive bridge and stairway system was opened under the auspices of the Norwegian Road Directorate's National Tourist Road Project. The stairs are steep and lead up to the foot of the upper waterfall, where you will be rewarded with a fresh shower.

Tveitafossen is the first of four magnificent waterfalls along the Kinso River, each showcasing nature's raw power. This stunning spot is easily accessible and offers a breathtaking view right next to a power station. The hike to Tveitafossen can be challenging but rewarding, especially for those who venture further to see all four waterfalls: Nyastolfossen, Nykkjesoyfossen, and the grand finale at Sotefossen.
Beautiful hike. Not easy but doable for all kinds of people. The waterfalls are worth it.

This is the first waterfall you'll come across if you're doing the hike to see all four which is what we did. Easy to get to but still impressive next to the power station. I recommend getting to the second one if you can but it's a steep climb!

I visited this place with my dog. We walked on the hiking route all the way to the top and had a nice dip in the waterfall before heading down. On the way down i noticed there is another route which is a road with gravel. Such a nice surprice, as the route we took up was very exausting with a dog on your shoulder :-) I recomment you to take both routes, in which order is for you to decide. There is a big difference between the routes and how you watch the river from them and i wouldn't like to miss any of them!

(Translated by Google) Beautiful! The Husedalen hike starts in the town of Kinsarvik, in the western fjords area. From Bergen it is about a 2-hour drive. The walk starts easily, on a paved road. Until the first waterfall, Tveitafossen. That is about a 30 minute walk. Then the real hiking begins. The path becomes steeper and more difficult. But it's worth it 🙂. (Original) Prachtig! The next ones are definitely worth seeing, although the approach to them is a bit more difficult. The entire route to the four waterfalls takes about 4 hours of leisurely walking there and back. (Translated by Google) This trip is absolutely fantastic, but somewhat demanding. From the first waterfall you can go further, either by road or by path. We recommend taking the road until you see the signs from DNT (marked T) towards stavali tourist cabin. Then you get the best way along the waterfalls and rivers. Remember to take several breaks on the worst slopes and drink plenty of water from the river. Went on the trip with small children aged 5 and 7, and it went well, but could have been a little better marked with distance signs and generally better marking. Otherwise, the trip was completely adventurous! It is fine to camp between the second and third waterfalls. Just before the third waterfall, there is also a WC that you can use.

The Hardanger Bridge is a 4,528-ft. suspension bridge, one of the world's longest, providing a pathway for pedestrians and cyclists. The 1,380-meter-long bridge is wedged between two mountains and features no visible pillars. It can be accessed through two tunnels with underground roundabouts on each side. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Hardanger Fjord from Kvernabekken park via a wheelchair-accessible pedestrian road.
This is a bridge I sailed under as I cruised up Eidfjord. Before I arrived here, I was unaware of its existence, but having seen it in this stunning setting, it is something I would recommend is worth making the effort to visit. Whether viewed from the water or from the shore, there is no arguing about the fact that this is an incredible piece of engineering.

Buarbreen, located in the Folgefonna National Park near Odda, offers a picturesque and challenging hike. The trail features diverse terrain including mountains, glaciers, forests, streams, and waterfalls. Hikers must navigate steep and rocky sections with ropes and ladders while also crossing muddy areas. Despite the challenging terrain, the hike is manageable for those in good shape. The stunning views of waterfalls amidst glaciers and fjords make this an unforgettable experience.
The hike tool around 3 hours with a few breaks, it is a beautiful hike, the views are amazing. There are a lot of bridges to get over the beautiful brooks. There are ropes to climb ul the rocks. The hike is a lot of climbing with around 400 meter ascent. The way down goes a bit faster but it is the same route. You can take a detour at the last 10 min.
Finn B — Google review
Nice hike all the way to the base of the gletcher, at the top it was a bit tricky, we had to jump from boulder to boulder to cross the waterfalls. But the reward was at the top. Awesome view there!
Arjen — Google review
The views are stunning! We managed to reach the top with our dog, but I wouldn’t recommend it for small children or small dogs. In some places, you need to use chains to climb up. The glacier can only be accessed with a guide—otherwise, you can just see it from fairly close once you reach the top. It took us about 3 hours with short breaks in both ways.
Austė K — Google review
This hike is Crazy!! You will see a little jungle in the middle of glaciers and fjords. You can start your hike in the near of Odda (8km from the city center) as a cool-down the day after Trolltunga. The views are tremendous. The waterfalls going wild these days and you will cross many of them on the way to the top. We had 500m of ascent and in total 10km back and forth. At the parking you have to pay 185NOK for the day. At the entrance of the hiking trail you will face horses and cows in their habitat. Just make sure you bring water resistant shoes and a bottle of water, that could be refilled on the entire way to and on the glacier.
Niklas — Google review
A really interesting and fun walk, lush green to start with a rocky trail then some slightly more challenging sections with ropes (these are a little trickier on the way down) and clambering but this makes it go quick. Some great spots for a snack break with views and a very cool end to see the bottom of the Glacier pretttyyy close! Highly recommend but you should be confident on your feet for the latter half.
Hannah W — Google review
From the parking lot you get your first glimpse of the glacier. Parking cost 150NOK a day and you pay by credit card when leaving. From the parking lot you follow a marked path. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful scenery, the walk is as much of the event as the glacier itself. The trip is close to 3 km one way, and with normal walking speed you will use 3-4 hours in total. Most of the time you walk on rocks and boulders and there are also some parts where you need to use the fixed ropes to climb or rappel. No climbing experience or equipment is needed, but you would benefit from having good leg and arm strength. Good hiking shoes are required, and don't forget to bring warm clothes as you end up 650 meters higher than you started and cold winds from the glacier pours down the valley. You won’t be able to walk on the glacier itself as a meltwater river stream at the base blocks your way. Enjoy!
Arn P — Google review
The hike was great, going up the rocky path, including several places where you have to use ropes/chains. However, it is not too difficult. It looks rather steep from below, but despite some harder spots the hike was totally ok and the glacier was actually closer than it appeared from the valley.
Zuzana H — Google review
One of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever done (and I live in Switzerland where we have so many stunning hikes). This hike doesn’t take long, less than 3 hours if you’re in good shape, and the variety of terrain you see - mountains, glacier, forest, streams, waterfalls - is spectacular. The trail is rocky and steep in parts, requiring use of ropes and ladders to scramble up some of the slopes. You also have to cross a few muddy, wet areas, so be sure to wear good hiking shoes. Enjoy!

Barony Rosendal Manor House

Museums
Barony Rosendal offers simple yet charming rooms with complimentary breakfast in a quaint hotel located on the grounds of a stately manor. The estate features serene, lush gardens with numerous paths connecting the main noble villa and the rest of the property, all set against a dramatic mountain backdrop. Visitors can enjoy an exquisite kitchen with a small but excellent menu and friendly staff. The Barony also boasts beautiful gardens, parks, and a guided tour of the historic castle.
This was so much more than I anticipated. The size of the farm, the flowers, the food (oh! Pieces of art with the herbs flowers nuts and local berries juices), the art collection in the manor house celebrating norwegian artists, the dedicated and knowledgeable staff. The hike along the Hattebergfossen waterfall and the flocks of sheep, goats and cows. What a great visit.
Linda G — Google review
We weren’t sure that we should bother with a trip to Rosendal after visiting some other beautiful fjord regions. But Hardangerfjord has a different beauty, much more pastoral. The Barony sits in a valley nestled next to mountains, and has a gorgeous garden with a cafe. It is a lovely walk from the ferry.
Kay T — Google review
The barony park and garden are located in a very pretty place, facing the mountains. The place offers plenty of walks around, the rose garden is beautiful even at this season (mid-August). There is a café close to the castle with a nice terrace in the greenhouse. We took the guided tour option of the castle, the guide made the most of it but the possibilities are limited there. On the practical side, the parking is 75 kr, and the entrance with tour 210 kr per person.

Nice place to take a walk and even to have a lunch. But cost of admission is too high. After all it is just a park with no special attractions. We didn't join guided tour - maybe it would be more interesting.

Nice walk through tree lined Avenue to the Barony which is situated in beautiful gardens. Lots of history in the house. But the guided tour was very rushed as there seemed to be a queue of tours waiting. Pity! Cafe and restaurant in grounds make this a lovely place to chill out.

What a beautiful manor. The green is so intense – tons of plants, trees and grass. I found the manor house to be inspiring – various styles of architecture using various types of building materials. The intricacies of the iron gate archway are truly fascinating. The garden and the buildings are well maintained. The manor is easily accessed from a nearby parking area.

Such a pretty place! It feels like you’re walking in a fairytale. I was here before the season started, so the roses weren’t blooming. But it was still a very magical experience.

The Manor and restaurant was closed, 2nd June. The gardens and landscape was amazing and very relaxing. A lovely walk. The cost of 300 kroner for 2 adults and no guided trip was much to expensive.

Tvindefossen

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Tvindefossen is a stunning waterfall that cascades over 150 meters, nestled among the picturesque tree-covered hills and cliffs of Norway. Located just a short drive from Voss, this breathtaking natural wonder is easily accessible for travelers journeying between Bergen and Gudvangen. While it attracts many visitors, especially cruise ship passengers, its beauty remains captivating regardless of the crowds.
There's a lovely waterfall on the road to Gudvangen. It's a beautiful place, and camping is available.

Tvindefossen is a stunning and picturesque waterfall, definitely worth a quick stop if you’re passing through the area. The view is beautiful and the waterfall itself is elegant, making it a great photo opportunity. However, there’s not much else to do once you’ve taken in the view. The area around the waterfall is fenced off with rope, so you can’t get close to the water or the base of the falls. There are no benches or places to sit and relax, and picnics are not allowed, which makes it more of a short visit than a place to spend time. Overall, a beautiful sight, but limited in terms of access and facilities.

Easy to park and access falls. Saviour shop with a restroom. Quite popular, quick in and out stop.

Lively water fall. We came here after the zipline activity in Voss. Its only 1 km away from voss active zipline. Its a beautiful waterfall with different layers. You can go and tale pictures. But not allowed to go on the water or do a picnic in the area. There is a small shop nearby. Also there is a camping area

Very beautiful waterfall. Was just driving by and stopped. Was camping and checking out Voss, Stegastein, Borgun Stave Church, and such. There is free parking and you can just walk right up to the falls. Be aware that the bathrooms cost money to use.

Plenty of space, well laid out for both large and small vehicles. Access on both sides of the road. There is a small kiosk on the fjord side, the WC was closed for repairs when we were there. You can walk down to the water from here too.

Plenty of free parking for all size cars and tour buses. I recommend going early because this is a popular tourist spot. They have clean bathrooms and it is only a short walk to get to the bottom or to the top of the waterfall. You are also able to walk behind the curtain of the waterfall. There are two gift stores and one offers drinks and ice cream with outdoor picnic benches to sit and enjoy your drink. This was a great stop for us.

Gorgeous waterfall that you can walk behind. Easily accessible parking and toilets. Small tourist centre for advice.

Great spot right next to the waterfall. Found parking easily, even during the day. Clean toilets, nearby cafés and shops — everything you need for a quick and comfortable stop. Beautiful surroundings!

Open 24 hours, well lit, plenty of parking and clean bathrooms open as well. Plus the view of the waterfall. During the day you have tourist info, cafés and shops. At night the bathrooms are open and the waterfall is lit up for a beautiful view!
