This is a wonderful place to spend time away from the screens and connect with nature. Lots of things to see on the trail, appropriate obstacle courses for all ages, and best of all, fun. Some parts can get hot though, if you have sensitive feet. You can purchase tickets at the entrance booth or pre-purchase online and scan your QR code at the machine by the entrance. They sell food at the end of the trail/by the entrance and have adequate seating to sit and eat, which was nice. Overall, for the price, wonderful experience.

An absolutely brilliant experience for the whole family. We loved every minute of the 3.5 km trail. The variety is incredible – from soft grass to challenging stones, and of course, the famous clay pit which was so much fun! The final river crossing is a great, refreshing finish. Highly recommended for a unique day out.
Udaya P — Google review
A really fun experience! The park is really well kept and there is such a great variation of things to do. You go through mud, cold water and can even Wade through the river. You walk over lots of surfaces like rocks, sand and corks. And there are lots of playground - style activities. The whole family would have lots of fun here - it only costs €4 per person. My favorite part was definitely the boat across the river that your partner has to control from the shore.
Lotte S — Google review
This is a very nice riverside walking path that is mixture of foot sensation, obstacle course, nature education, and playground. Easily the most well designed, well maintained barefoot pad I've seen (And it's 30+ years old!) I used Google maps to direct us to this exact pin, and found clear signs for parking (large, free, paved, partially shaded lot) and then while walking, signs and Google led us through a small tunnel to the kasse, where I purchased tickets for myself and children (5 euro for adults, 3 for kids 4+ years, free for younger than 4); there was no line on this week day September 2022 afternoon. Before we entered the park, we had a snack in front of the park entrance at one of the several picnic benches, where there are also clean indoor bathrooms and bicycle parking stations. Once you enter the grounds, there is a foot washing station, lockers to rent for a 1 euro coin (which I did, and left our shoes, our snacks since I didn't know there would be picnic benches along the route), and free open cubbies if all you need to leave are your shoes. I wore the two year old, while the other two walked. You enter the path by diving in to the mud path, which is by far the best mud pack I've seen, about 1 foot deep of pure mud and muddy water, with globs of mud sifting between your toes - it was wonderful. The rest of the path is less messy, mostly different walking textures and some water features, and lots of balance beams and obstacles. The nicest surprise was the opportunity to wade through the Nahe river, which I was unfortunately unable to do as I my kids were too small. It appeared to get quite deep (knee to waist high, I'd guess), but there are two cables running across for you to hold onto to keep your balance; if you don't feel like wading across the river, there is a wooden bridge just ahead that will bring you across to rest of the path. If I remember correctly you don't miss anything by taking the shortcut provided by wading across the river (rather than the bridge) except perhaps one informational sign that was just slightly different from the rest on the path, I've posted it it in this review. The playground stations are near the end of the path, which is good because that is when my 4yo had just begun complaining. The path is indeed 3.5 km but thankfully quite flat, but VERY sunny with very few shady opportunities. It is basically a big loop, but since both directions hug the river, it feels like an out-and-back, just 50 meters apart There are many benches and picking tables throughout the course. There is a food kiosk at the end, with tables to sit, relax, and enjoy wine, beer, ice cream, or pretzels after your journey 😊. They do take cards, though it didn't work today. The path was not very crowded at all on this particular day; we never had to wait for anyone else getting stuck behind them. Bring water with or without food and hats/sunscreen if sunny, and wear clothes that you can get wet up to your knees/waist in (or a change of clothes!).

This was a fun day out however we went on a very hot day and the ground was burning our feet and some of the items were too hot to stand on. Not enough water stops to cool feet, definitely don't recommend on hot days or if your feet are sensitive as some of the water crossings were rough and hurt plus paths stoney.
Laura P — Google review
A different experience for sure. Not quite what I thought I was getting myself into, but we enjoyed our afternoon. The mud pit at the beginning has quite the off putting smell, so be prepared for that. Pretty views along the walk, & we got lucky because there was a band playing today that we got to enjoy along with our beer & bretzels.
Tahnee — Google review
I have never experienced a barefoot park, so I was beyond excited to try it. I love how it jumps right into the clay path, as soon as you begin. The obstacles were fun and my kids were loving it. That is until my son had a piece of mulch cut his foot at the playground and I stepped on a twig that had an endless amounts of thorns on it. We continued on the path to get back to the front desk, where they had no first aid kit or bandages. I wish the mulch was substituted with something else, maybe sand for an example. The twig incident is beyond their control, clearly just bad luck on my behalf. You can walk on the grass, instead of the mulch which is what we did for a lot of the path. At the end of the course, they have snack and drink bars, and a fountain to wash up before you leave. This was like a one and done experience for my family and I. Cool experience but never again bare foot. Maybe with water shoes it would have been amazing!
Priscilla Y — Google review
"Barfuß" means "Bare foot", so as the name suggests, this is a bare foot experience where one has to walk without shoes or slippers on a walk path of around 3 km. This walk path had different parts like a part where one has to wade through around 30cm deep mud puddle, there were parts with pebble, sand and wooden Chips to walk upon. It also had different obstacles to cross like zig-zag plank, hanging logs, small wooden pillars, etc. The best part for me to wade through a knee deep river stream (off course there was two parallel ropes to hold by both hands and walk). Flat paths were covered with grass as well as stones and bricks. It was all together a different experience and exposure of feet to different surface in a short walk. For some, it could be boring, for some painful, but for some unique and exciting. I liked some parts like mud (although it was bit stinky and pebbles down felt like piercing my sole), sand pit, fresh water stream and some obstacles, but didn't like pebbles and wooden Chips parts because they were hurting more than having fun. There is a Bier Garden at the starting point of the walking path (which also is the end of it) where you can find very limited items (mainly snacks and drinks) in the menu list. There is a wonderful Public pool cum Aqua Park (Frei- und Erlebnisbad "Am Rosenberg") very near to it. One can plan the visit their combined with Barfuß to enjoy the whole day.

Siegfried's Mechanical Museum, located in a 15th-century manor house in Bromsherof, is a captivating showcase of around 350 self-playing, mechanical music instruments that span three centuries. Visitors can enjoy guided tours where the guides operate the instruments, allowing guests to see and hear them in action. The museum features elaborate carousel organs and self-playing violins that are sure to delight antique lovers and music enthusiasts alike.
This was just an amazing step back in time. The musical instruments were in perfect working order and a delight to listen to. The guided tour was lead by an amazing young lady, who was so passionate about the museum. It only cost 11 euros to enter, well worth every penny.
Elaine U — Google review
A private museum with great and unique collection of mechanical musical Instruments. A what is great that is not just exhibition, you receive a 45 minute guided tour, where you you get to know and to hear different instruments. Guides know at least 4 different languages, what is very rare also. The museum was worth every cent I paid. Just be ready that tours start every hour, so you might need to wait a bit.
Yuri S — Google review
Best museum I have been to in a long time. I wanted to see all of them play but understandably from a time perspective that just isnt possible. It truly is sad that we have lost so much of that beautiful craftmanship. The building itself is beautiful. The tour guides were very friendly. All in all I would honestly love to return if I am ever in the area again.
D F — Google review
I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. The guide was informative and fun and the history of these incredible contraptions was fascinating. The tour was fast paced and well done.
Randall W — Google review
A small but fascinating museum. I did the guided tour as a group. A vast array of mechanical musical instruments which show how ingenious humans can be when we out out minds to something positive.
Caroline R — Google review
A friend of mine recommended Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet Museum, even though they visited almost 20 years ago. I'm so glad I took their advice! The tour guide was absolutely superb—not only were they genuinely funny, expertly switching between German and English, but they were also incredibly knowledgeable and even good on the piano! Their passion for the collection really made the experience. It's a very niche experience, but I'm still scratching my head wondering how all those instruments play themselves with such precision. For the price, it's great value for money and well worth the experience. I highly recommend it!
Tim B — Google review
What a brfilliant museum. We hjad a tour to ourselves and the museum staff allowed us to store our cases in a locked room. We had a good tour around of a number of different rooms containg lots of instruments and ouir guide gave us information about certain machines and demonstrated them. All of them were interesting and fascinating. It was so good to see so many working machines, some huge, some tiny and all producing wonerful music. There are also some very old wall and ceiling paintings in some of the rooms. Even though the tour is only 45 minutes it was good value for money
Chris D — Google review
Wow! The museum not only has a vast selection of player pianos, but player orchestras, too. And much, much more. I learned a lot during our tour. The building itself is a former grand home and is beautiful in its own right. Definitely worth a visit.

St. Stephan's Church, also known as the Catholic Parish Church of St. Stephan, is a significant religious site in Mainz with a rich history dating back to 990 AD. The church features stunning stained glass windows created by Marc Chagall and a late-Gothic cloister that adds to its allure. Despite suffering severe damage from an explosion and air raids during World War II, the church has been meticulously restored to its former glory.
A great experience. Wonderfull windows by Chagall. An ocean in blue. Lovely organ. The light in this church is something very special. A must in Mainz.

Very moving. The Chagall windows are just breathtaking. Visit in the early afternoon to see the church glowing in the most Devine stunning blue.
Michelle — Google review
Church with amazing windows made by Schagal. A must-see in Mainz. Also the cloister next to the church is quite nice.
Jerzy J — Google review
Hidden gem of Mainz! I have been outside in the church cloistered courtyard, which is relatively small but very beautiful and picturesque, many times, however this was my first time inside the church and I was really impressed. I had no idea there was such a beautiful church in Mainz! This place is known for its unique stained-glass windows in luminous blue that were created by Marc Chagall. The light coming through the windows was absolutely stunning and created an almost unreal ambience, I felt like being under water. I have never seen such beautiful lighting in any church I have visited (visited mid-day with clear skies, so nothing was blocking the sun beams to enter the church). I also enjoyed the beautiful modern Organs near the chancel with the altar. There is a little gift shop inside, where you can buy souvenirs like postcards, books and magnets mainly with the blue window theme. Church is wheel-chair accessible and there is no entrance fee. Totally recommend to visit this church as pictures don't really do justice, you must see it with your own eyes to have the full experience. Visited in May 2022.
Pavel D — Google review
Beautiful church has many Marc Chagall stain glass. On the negative side, watch you step a member of our party missed the small steps and was carted off to the hospital. Church staff could of cared less. We had to get her there on our own.

A place where you can feel your connection with the vast and be alone with your faith. Marc Chagall's stained glass windows are incredibly beautiful, you stop thinking and only the soul remains.

Nestled in the charming old quarter of Mainz, the Gutenberg Museum stands as a testament to the revolutionary impact of Johannes Gutenberg, the pioneer behind movable type printing. Established in 1900 to commemorate his 500th birthday, this museum is one of the oldest dedicated to printing and attracts visitors from around the globe.
Small museum run by strict time and appointments. We were on a local guide tour, so he did the actual printing demonstration and gave us background and insights. I'm not sure how a walk-in would have been treated. Very interesting museum and a great addition to my knowledge of Gutenberg. Give it a try.
Alan — Google review
Beautifully curated museum with several original printed books, specially 3 bibles. A very good printed demonstration, from the making of the letters to the final printed page, both in English and German with a replica of the printing machine. Negative: A very unhelpful large and seated guardian next to the interactive picture box, most interested in moving people along than in helping with the experience.
Claudia B — Google review
You are given a card that lets you activate some of the exhibits, and at the end you can print your photo in the style of block printing onto the card. There is a demonstration of printing and the presenter gave interesting facts and was very knowledgeable.
Holly M — Google review
Awesome experience of the Gutenberg museum and in excellent opportunity to see one of the Gutenberg Bibles. Actually four of them. It's absolutely amazing that these were the first books printed by the Gutenberg press. A worthwhile experience to visit this historic place. Highly recommend visiting the Gutenberg museum and seeing the original Gutenberg Bible. They are absolutely priceless books as every single one of the 47 of them are different because they were sold as separate pages and made into books by the buyers after they purchase them which we understand is the price of a home to purchase the pages back when they were newly off the press
Ed R — Google review
It's a small museum but very well done. When I visited in Nov 2025 they had the word "Moved" in the name to emphasize that it's final location is under renovation and it is just temporarily adjacent to the natural history museum. Indeed I almost wandered into the natural history museum trying to find it. The first room had a 3D table of Mainz and narrated a story of his life (both in English and German). Indeed in spite of what some past reviews said, the museum seems to have stepped up their game and most descriptions were in both German and English. The main attraction, the two original Bibles we're well displayed and surprisingly uncrowded. I was able to go back two and study them.
Knud H — Google review
1.5 hours was NOT enough. Didn't get to the demonstrations upstairs. (I visited the "Moved!" version in June 2025.) Anyone in graphic design, journalism or communications will appreciate the overarching themes and attention to detail. The Bibles themselves, and the additional works displayed alongside them, were presented very well and in an interesting manner.
E. L — Google review
The Gutenberg Museum is a fascinating and well-worthwhile visit. While I was a bit confused by the natural history aspect, I soon discovered that the main exhibition is temporarily located inside the Natural History Museum—a detail that, once understood, didn't detract from the experience at all. My primary interest was learning more about Johannes Gutenberg, and the museum did an excellent job of that. The exhibits are fantastic, especially the chance to see some of the first printed bibles up close. I also appreciated the use of modern technology to make the history more relatable, particularly the fun machine that lets you create a selfie with a printed page. My only regret is that I didn't get to see a demonstration of the printing press in action. Overall, it's a great experience and excellent value for money.

Mainz Cathedral

Mentioned on

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Mainz, the Mainz Cathedral, also known as St. Martin and St. Stephen, is a stunning example of Romanesque architecture that has captivated visitors for centuries. With its impressive six towers reaching towards the sky, this architectural marvel was constructed starting in AD 975 under Archbishop Willigis and draws inspiration from Rome's iconic St. Peter's Basilica.
Mainz Cathedral is truly a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture and a place where you instantly feel the weight of history—and the serenity of the present. From the moment you approach its striking red sandstone façade and soaring towers, the cathedral commands attention. Yet, once inside, what stands out most is the calm and quiet atmosphere. The interior, with its high vaulted ceilings, delicate stained-glass windows, and softly lit chapels, invites reflection and stillness. Each corner offers something unique: from colorful modern stained-glass windows to beautifully preserved medieval sculptures and ornate altars. The cathedral is not only a feast for the eyes but also a deeply spiritual space, whether you’re religious or not. Sitting in the long nave, surrounded by centuries-old stone and gentle candlelight, brings a sense of grounding and peace. A small exhibit area shares more about the cathedral’s long and storied past, and there are plenty of nooks to explore if you enjoy architecture, art, or quiet contemplation. Right in the heart of Mainz, this is a must-visit spot that feels worlds away from the busy streets just outside.
Ishantha H — Google review
A stunning landmark right at the heart of Mainz! The cathedral is massive and full of history, with its beautiful Romanesque architecture and peaceful atmosphere. Walking inside feels like stepping back in time, with impressive stonework, chapels, and artworks to admire. The surrounding Domplatz adds to the charm, with plenty of cafés and shops around. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Mainz!
Midhun M — Google review
Impressive structure! Lots of history in the area yet, unlike other similar cathedral areas in other towns, this one feels lively amd young.. Definitely a different and welcome vibe!
Brian B — Google review
The Mainz Cathedral is absolutely mesmerizing! The moment you step inside, you’re transported to another time. The massive pillars, soaring ceilings, and the way light filters through the stained glass—it’s like walking into a movie scene. Every corner tells a story. Peaceful yet majestic, this place leaves you in awe. If you visit Mainz and miss this cathedral, you’re truly missing out! ⛪✨
Muhacir — Google review
Beautiful cathedral. Lovely garden area as you come in. I was in a bit of a hurry so I was not able to figure out how to climb the tower but I hope I can come back sometime and try. Crypt was neat to see. Fun murals of gospel scenes above the clerestory level along the nave. Some interesting sid chapels to include one of the more vibrant colored crucifixion paintings I've seen in a cathedral.
Knud H — Google review
I really like the cathedral — it’s even more beautiful than the one in Speyer. I adore the red stones and the many towers. It’s so happily situated within the rest of the city. I felt very happy in these surroundings.
Iva * — Google review
Much larger than I thought. They have a “biggest bible” page there which isn’t that aesthetic but the rest of the cathedral is impressive. Definitely worth a stop.
Ben P — Google review
The cathedral is beautiful. I came here on a Thursday afternoon and there was no wait at all and there was minimal people inside. Be careful if there is a service happening and be respectful of the space if so. There is a museum but I didn't go inside there. The architecture in the cathedral is worth the visit to come see. Be aware that as of may 2025 there is major construction happening on the outside of the cathedral so it is covered in scaffolding. Its free to enter the church but donations are welcome. Be prepared to translate most of the signage if you do not speak German. There is a wheelchair ramp going into the main section of the cathedral and the main cathedral floor is flat but all of the side rooms and passageways have steps and are not handicap accessible.

Dating back to 1058/59, it is often referred to as the valley of the Rabbis due to its significance as the resting place of numerous rabbis, scholars, and martyrs. Visitors can explore this beautiful yet sobering cemetery with gravestones dating back nearly 10 centuries.
Guarded by two gentlemen. They ask to show what you have in a backpack and offer head cover for men if you don't have one. All very respectfully. They protect against idiots who might vandalise the site. This peaceful place of memory is worth visiting.
Michał P — Google review
Somewhat mysterious place. Guarded and protected against morons. Think have something on your head. Oldest gravestone is on the end of this cemetery. Is from year 1100. Description is in German language so does in English. Rather without a backpack.
Ask M — Google review
At just under an area covering nearly four acres this is purportedly the oldest Jewish Cemetery in Europe and holds UNESCO World Heritage Status. In a nature setting abundant with trees and lush long grass, many graves with Hebrew epitaphed lichen encrusted headstones blend alongside more recent elaborate similarly time worn obelisks. The cemetery suffered vandal damage during the pogroms of 1615 and 1618. Although not in use since 1911 a final interment took place in 1940, ironically during the Nazi Holocaust. This is a site conducive to deep spiritual reflection in recognition of the Jewish presence in Worms since the 10th century. Whilst visiting, gentlemen are required to wear a head covering in accordance with Jewish tradition.

Entrance only with a hat for men. Solemn and serene atmosphere in this Jewish cemetery.
Michael — Google review
Solemn and peaceful. Make sure to bring a head covering if you're a man.
Jaren R — Google review
The oldest Jewish Cemetary in Europe with garves dating back a millenia. Also the final resting spot for several prominent German Jews from history. It is a place for quiet reflection. The cemetery is very sombre and well maintained. The old gravestones are especially fascinating and make for great pictures. When you visit Be respectful All men are expected to cover their heads.

Sights & Landmarks
The Worms Cathedral, known as Dom St. Peter, stands out as a remarkable example of early Gothic architecture in Germany. With its four distinctive round towers and an opulent Baroque interior, this cathedral is not only a feast for the eyes but also steeped in history, particularly linked to Martin Luther. Visitors are often captivated by the intricate details found throughout the structure and its surroundings.
What a glorious cathedral, majestic from the outside and so beautiful inside. One can wonder over the stone carvings, individual niche chapels, the main altar and much more. A true place to reflects one self.
Eswiss64 — Google review
Lovely 12th-century catholic Church, built in Romanesque style. Inside, one can see Gothic reliefs from the abandoned cloisters, gravestones and grave plates of bishops.

Dom St Peter is a beautiful cathedral in Worms. The exterior is very impressive and there are many stunning stained glass windows to view as you explore the inside of the cathedral

It’s an impressive cathedral that is the major sight of this town. It’s free to enter, so take your chance to go inside and walk around. Part of it is under reconstruction now.

Amazing cathedral with huge towers. The stained glass inside was spectacular. The front is being restored so go around the back for great photos.

Didnt get to enjoy the views inside, just outside and it was just beautifull

Huge internal space like hangars for Zeppelins. View inside with shadows and sunbeams looks like from Angels and Desmond , da Vinci code or Diablo game. Large and Colourful window racks make it even more hypnotic. Description in German and English language. Is bit visible how was it he cathedral constructed, modified during centuries, Something looks older, something new. But look’s better than in Regensburg or Heidelberg. Parking for cars and bikes is outside, you can have probably some paid guide, old Jews cemetery near.

I was so excited to explore and just be I. The same city as this church. The architecture and history here is just stunning. Every area is very detailed and since being built around 1120 it has been maintained and kept in impeccable shape. I would suggest seeing this church. And don’t forget to check out the street filled with monuments and statues of some of the most important figures of the cathedrals/cities history.

Local history museum
Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt, also known as the Hessian State Museum, is a renowned institution showcasing a diverse range of European art and natural history exhibits. The museum's collections, which originated from the counts and grand dukes, form the basis of its extensive displays. Visitors can explore exhibitions spanning from prehistoric times to modern-day art, culture, and history. Additionally, the museum features a restaurant on-site for visitors to enjoy.
We visited this museum just because it was at midway on our long distance drive that day and was perfect spot to rest. It turned out to be one of the best museums we ever visited. It is not a big museum as the popular ones in the country. However it has a nice collection of things, the variety of which was quite a lot to facinate, but not too much as in the big museums to overwhelm. The natural history collection had many bird, mammal and skeleton samples. There is also a collection of skulls of other human species like neanderthals, etc. In addition, there is a nice minerals collection. The second floor was reserved for modern art exhibitions, but I cannot comment as we are not fond of modern art. Parking: there are two big underground parking just under the museum and under the square across the museum. Therefore, access by car is very easy. The price of parking was okay or as one would expect considering it was the most central location in the city. We bought the ticket when we arrive. There was not a queue, however it was a low season. Ticket can also be bought online. The price of the museum is 6 euro per person. Overall, it was a quite nice experience for 3 hours that we spent.

That was the best museum that I've ever seen. Fossils, ancient Egypt, Knight armours, various minerals and stones, amazing tiffany glass examples, stunning old jewelleries, ancient Rome miniatures and more... It was absolutely amazing. 3 floors took my 3 hours and I could've stay even more.
Keatline S — Google review
It is a huge museum having 7-8 sections ranging from science, arts to history. The hardwork of workers in preserving the biological samples is admirable. You can come with kids to give them a good insights into different subjects. It is fantastic museum.

Excellent natural history museum with interesting mineralogical and zoological collections in addition to a range of works of art from both the ancient and modern world. In my opinion the heart of the museum is in the collection of fossils from the nearby Messel site, as they are incredibly well prepared and presented.
Raptorstorm1 — Google review
A surprisingly fulfilling museum with interesting exhibits in all areas ranging from art and history to the natural world. Be sure to reserve a good three or more hours for this place if you want to get round everything, as it has a vast collection - especially of art. The Max Liebermann exhibition was on when I visited. This was one of the best parts and was a well put together exhibition with interesting pieces. Most of the descriptions of the pieces are in German but this didn't reduce any of the entertainment for me. One kind employee even had a nice chat with me about the permanent collection. Entry is cheap and discounted for students so I undoubtedly recommend a visit as I believe it's one of the most interesting places to visit in Darmstadt!
George — Google review
We came for the art deco section and especially the jewelry part. This is the best display of jewelry I have ever seen. And the rest of the museum is also excellent. Beautiful pieces and excellently displayed. A must see for everyone. Very helpful security, especially in the art deco section where we were pointed towards the available drawers with even more jewelry.
William W — Google review
Very interesting exhibits in an amazing beautiful Museum Hause in the heart of Darmstadt town... Enough time is required for visiting every exhibit with no rush, at least 2 to 3 hours. A café is also here to sit and enjoy a pause in between or after the visiting... A good museum for adults with children ....

Goldener Engel | Hotel - Restaurant

Restaurant
Cozy hotel offering classic rooms, free Wi-Fi & a restaurant serving regional cuisine.
Killer location right at historic Heppenheim market place, looking right at the old Starkenburg. Very attentive service (“Angels in action”) and delicious breakfast buffet. Rooms are renovated and well functional. We’ll be back!
Jurgen S — Google review
I was a guest in the hotel but can not recommend staying here, while the location is excellent, there is little sense of hospitality. When we arrived we asked if we could get a table for dinner. We were told they were all booked out. We did not find anything else we liked in the area, and we had our eyes on the pepper steak on the menu here so we tried our luck again at the restaurant. There was a table free outside, which said it had been reserved for 19h but at this point it was well past 20h and the table was still empty. We said we were guests at the hotel and we were promptly told we can not be seated at the table. We ended up ordering food elsewhere and sitting on the bench in the square, to eat on our lap. The entire time, the table at the Goldener Engel stayed EMPTY. Very inhospitable!!! The rooms are clean and spacious, few extras not even water. Breakfast was sparse if you could even get to it - unfortunately it's tucked into a tiny corner and there's room for one person at a time. Not an ideal stay. I expect more welcoming service from a hotel really! very unfortunate.

Traditional German Gasthof. Comfortable rooms, though the bathrooms are on the tiny side. Good food in the restaurant. The tables outside, on the central marketplace, are the BEST you can choose for a drink.

We called in our desperate need Hotel Goldener Engel, explained our situation (no Tesla Destination charger in the nearby booked Michel Hotel, while google said it was), if we please could charge a few % (we said we wanted to pay ofcourse) but the Goldener Engel Hotel said no: it was only allowed if we booked a room. While we walked around, with our two tired little children, to look for help from anybody, we saw outside that the Tesla charger at the Goldener Engel Hotel wasn't used at this moment.

It was very nice experience, not too many animals but at least the prices were reasonable and conveniently little people and walking.

This is a small Zoo but with heart and soul. The animals are treated good, there was enough food and space for each inhabitant. Some animals were lend out to other zoos so not all areas were filled. Entrance fee is really good compared to other zoos I have been to. The prices of the small cafe were too high (~4€ for fries) and it took way to long (~20 mins waiting time for fries...?), queueing excluded. The area is accessible with a wheelchair and the parking lots are close. Will be back for sure.

Not much to see cause not such a big zoo, but very nice and appealing for kids. Benches. Playgrounds. Clean. The crocodile hides and sleeps and not green.... Some listed animals missing. This was very nice for me and the kids.

Michelstadt is an absolutely charming city, and its Altstadt (old town) is truly a gem! Walking through the narrow streets of the old city is an amazing and fascinating experience. The historic architecture, the cozy atmosphere, and the overall vibe of the place left me with such a positive feeling. I also had the chance to visit the Christmas market, which was one of the most beautiful and charming markets I’ve ever been to. The variety of food and cuisine on offer was incredible, much broader than what I’ve seen at other Christmas markets in different cities. Every corner of the market felt magical, with its unique character and festive spirit. I absolutely love Michelstadt and its Altstadt, and I can’t wait to come back every year, especially for the Christmas market. This place has captured my heart! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a delightful and heartwarming experience. #Weihnachtsmarkt

We recently had the chance to visit the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, and it was an incredible experience. The moment you walk in, you're surrounded by a stunning display of design, speed, and innovation that reflects the true **triumph of German engineering**. From the earliest Porsche models to cutting-edge concept cars, every exhibit showcases precision, craftsmanship, and a relentless pursuit of performance. The museum's architecture itself is strikingly modern, mirroring the brand’s forward-thinking spirit. We were especially impressed by the motorsport section, which highlights Porsche’s dominance on the track and the technological breakthroughs behind it. Whether you're a lifelong car fan or just curious, the museum offers a deep appreciation for what makes Porsche — and German engineering as a whole — world-renowned. We left inspired and uplifted especially my husband who is cars enthusiast! Definitely must see!

Visiting this place is a must if you appreciate automobiles and the culture surrounding them. Although it is located a bit outside the city's heart, the experience is worth the travel. Be prepared for a potentially bustling atmosphere, as many people share your interest. To avoid queues and ensure entry, consider purchasing your tickets ahead of your visit. Enjoy the impressive assortment of Porsches on display for you to admire.

Such a cool experience to be able to go here, loved the interactive bits but the story telling could’ve been done better for Ferdinand Porsche’s life. Coming from my time in the Mercedes Benz museum down the road which did their story telling impeccably. Definitely go here though, would highly reccommend if you like looking at high horsepower monsters and multi million euro cars!

Car enthusiasts will love it. The museum will give you a diving in the history of Germany and automobiles. The visit starts at the visitor center going up to the 8th floor down. There’s parking on the streets nearby and some parking nearby the museum. Parking garage is also available nearby. Tickets may be bought online or in person. It is kids friendly and wheelchair accessible. There’s a souvenir store, a restaurant and more downstairs from the visitor center.

The Porsche Museum is absolutely incredible and a must-visit for anyone who loves the Porsche brand. The collection is stunning, with so many iconic cars from throughout Porsche’s history displayed in a beautifully curated space. From groundbreaking race cars to legendary road cars, every exhibit highlights the brand’s innovation and engineering excellence. My personal favorites were the Nurburgring record-breaking 919 Evo, which is breathtaking to see up close, and the Carrera GT, a true masterpiece of design and performance. The museum perfectly captures what makes Porsche special, and it’s well worth the trip for any automotive enthusiast.

Some places aren’t just beautiful — they speak to something inside you. Schlossplatz is one of them. The old stones seem to hold quiet stories, and the evening light paints the buildings like someone is brushing the city with love. I just stood there, listening to a violinist, soaking in the moment. If you're nearby — don’t rush past. There’s a kind of peace here, even in the middle of the crowd.

Schlossplatz is truly the heart of the city and absolutely deserves five stars! It is a stunning, beautiful landmark that immediately impresses visitors with its grand scale; it's a truly large square perfect for relaxing. Not that impressed by Schlossplatz. The building and the park are nice but it was very very crowded. Not sure what it is exactly but it is missing the vibe that cities like London or Paris have… On the positive side; we found Coffreez; a really nice coffee take away bar. See foto.

Stuttgart hasn't that much to offer to visitors if you don't count two outstanding car museums in its suburbs. The central area is mostly modern and new rebuilt after WWII grounding of entire city. Schlossplatz, or the Palace square is the best attraction from historic point of view. Like you might conclude it's in the very center. A huge Wurtemburg Kings palace dominates the square on the eastern side. In the middle is the unification obelisk erected in honor of Wurtemberg joining the German confederation, with two nice fountains. The square is full of people having their free time and picnic there, while around the square are several bars and restaurants to sip a drink and enjoy the beauty

Wilhelma Zoological and Botanic Garden is a vast zoo and botanical garden located in a former royal park dating back to the 19th century. Originally created as a private retreat for Swabian King Wilhelm, it has now become one of Germany's largest zoos, attracting over two million visitors annually. The site features Neo-Moorish style buildings set amidst lush gardens, offering a unique setting for its diverse collection of animals and plants.
The best zoo in the world. I've been to all the London zoos and lots more throughout the UK and internationally — this must be the best zoo ever! It’s spacious, beautiful, clean. It wasn’t busy or crowded at all, even on a Sunday. Also it’s huge with so many animals! Which on the whole seem happy and looked after. And the gardens and greenhouses are stunning. Even the food and canteens/restaurants are lovely. We had the best day ever. And there’s so many play areas for kids as well. 10/10 you have to come if you’re in the area. You won’t regret it.

Beautiful garden + zoo which is so nicely maintained. The garden is spectacular. There is the cactus area which would mesmerize all garden lovers. The surroundings are well kept. The Amazon experience is amazing. The animals can be viewed closely, that's how the landscaping is done for their enclosures. Multiple restaurants are within the Wilhelma zoo. Not to forget some lucky ones even got peacock feathers. We visited on a Saturday with kids and it was a day well spent.

Huge place to visit, great value for money of you go on sight seeing. Wilhelma is both a botanical and a zoological garden with a great collection in both fauna. There are a lot of things to do for children (special places were they can climb and play) but as well as a lot of places to grab something to eat or a coffee or a … bear.
Claudiu F — Google review
This was by far the biggest coolest zoo we've ever been to! Beautiful botanical gardens too! There's different microclimate buildings with native plants to those regions and the animals are out in their habitat when you walk through. We've never experienced anything like it, definitely the coolest thing we did while we were in Stuttgart! Parking was 8 euros, we spent 6 hours making our way through the park and could have been there even longer than that. We used the 3 day stuttcard that we purchased for entrance at the zoo. Well worth your time!

Wilhelma is an absolute must-visit and a stellar example of modern zoological care! From the moment you step inside, the entire park feels incredibly well maintained—a truly pristine environment. The focus on animal welfare is clear; the complex features very good, spacious animal sanctuaries that clearly contribute to happy animals throughout the exhibits. It's truly heartwarming to see the dedication of the staff, and it’s obvious there are a lot of workers enjoying their job, which adds to the positive atmosphere. A fantastic, ethical, and beautiful day out!
Micu V — Google review
I have visited zoo and botanical gardens lot of time but the trip to Wilhelma was a unique experience. It is constructed such that to give a natural habitat to the animals while people can also experience how the animals of wild look like. You can see them real close through glass windows. This was a very unique experience. There are all kinds of animals and birds. Since I have been only one time, due to limited time, I couldn't visit the Amazon forest and botanical gardens. But I am thinking of getting a yearly pass next year. Amazing experience. The nature truly is amazing and beyond words.
Shivam R — Google review
An absolutely impressive experience! Zoo Whelma stands out through its clever design and remarkable attention to detail. The artificially recreated habitats are vast and carefully crafted to reflect the natural environments of the animals. I was especially amazed by the presence of rare endemic species and the seamless blend of native flora with matching fauna. The dioramas are stunning, and the entire park feels like a perfect mix between a botanical garden and a zoo — a truly unique and memorable concept. It beautifully combines restored older sections with newly developed areas, showing both tradition and innovation. You can clearly see the passion and professionalism behind this project. I’m really looking forward to the opening of the two new wings, which will surely make the experience even richer. Highly recommended for all nature, education, and wildlife lovers!

All this green area , birds and animals is a joy of soul and eyes. Never had this much of calm in a very long time. I am happy that I visited it today. Note : I arrived at the gate and it was opened and none there , I stepped one foot to see where is the staff and a guy firmly asked me to step outside again. I didn't and showed him my ticket , he check it and then allowed me to enter. His behavior was so rude.

Incredible museum! The building is stunning, the exhibits are world-class, and the journey through automotive history is captivating from start to finish. Super clean, well organized, and great for all ages. A must-visit in Stuttgart — even if you’re not a car fan! What makes it truly special is how the story of Mercedes-Benz is told side by side with world history, I loved that! The journey through the history of Mercedes-Benz is perfectly intertwined with world history — you see how global events shaped innovation and design over time. The building itself is stunning, and the layout takes you on a fascinating journey through over 130 years of automotive history. From the very first automobile to futuristic concept cars, every floor is beautifully designed and full of innovation and storytelling. The audio guide and interactive displays make the experience engaging for all ages, and the way history and technology are woven together is impressive. You really feel the evolution of design, engineering, and culture. The staff are friendly and helpful, and everything is spotless and well organized. Absolutely fantastic experience for anyone curious about the power of creativity and progress!

The Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart is a true architectural and historical masterpiece, offering an immersive journey that appeals far beyond just automotive enthusiasts. It is, without a doubt, one of the best corporate museums in the world and a must-visit landmark in Germany. Brilliant Architecture and Chronological Design The building's ingenious double-helix architecture guides the visitor through time. You ascend to the top floor—the birth of the automobile—and then spiral down through nine levels, witnessing 130 years of history unfold chronologically. This unique design ensures a seamless and captivating flow. The lighting, presentation, and curation of the exhibits are world-class, giving every vehicle, from Karl Benz's first patent motor car to the modern F1 racers, the reverence it deserves. Innovation Contextualized in World History What truly elevates this museum is how it integrates the vehicles with parallel world history. Each exhibition floor connects Mercedes-Benz's technical progress with defining moments and culture of that era. You see the evolution of luxury, safety, and racing innovation—including the legendary Silver Arrows and the iconic "Gullwing" models. The sheer volume and diversity of cars, trucks, and prototypes are breathtaking, illustrating Mercedes-Benz's influence on global mobility. Conclusion: For its stunning design, technical depth, and engaging historical context, the Mercedes-Benz Museum is a powerful experience. The exhibition is impeccably maintained, the staff are helpful, and the ticket price offers fantastic value for a deep dive into industrial heritage. Allow at least three to four hours to properly explore this brilliant celebration of engineering. Highly, highly recommended when visiting Stuttgart.

It was a unique experience from my side. After having parked the car, we entered to the museum and took the elevator to the top floor where you are going to start your journey. From classic cars to classic sport cars and from recent road stars to formula cars. I mean simply amazing. The most important thing to do in the city.

⭐ 10/10 — a place I’d gladly visit again I visited the Mercedes-Benz Museum on a Sunday and it turned out to be a great decision. It wasn’t crowded, so I could walk around comfortably and really enjoy the atmosphere. The whole place is extremely clean and well-organized, and you can see how much attention is put into every detail. The audio guide was another highlight: clear, easy to follow, and filled with interesting facts. It doesn’t just talk about cars, but also about the history and the world around the inventions. At some points it genuinely feels like a small time-travel experience. Even if you’re not a big car fan, the museum still has a lot to offer. It tells a wider story about innovation, progress and the people behind it all. Each floor adds something new and keeps you curious. I’m not adding too many photos here because I’d rather keep some intrigue for future visitors. If you’re in Stuttgart, this place is definitely worth a visit. 👉 Highly recommended 👍

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An outstanding experience! The Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart is truly impressive, beautifully designed, perfectly organized, and full of fascinating history and stunning cars. The storytelling from past to present is exceptional, and every floor offers something unique. A must visit in Stuttgart for anyone who appreciates quality, innovation, and great hospitality. Highly recommended!
Filippos V — Google review
The Mercedes-Benz Museum isn't just a place for car enthusiasts; it is a meticulously curated journey through industrial and global history that easily earns its five stars. The experience begins with a profound reverence for innovation, celebrating Mercedes-Benz as the true pioneer of the internal combustion engine—the very invention that birthed the modern automobile in 1886. The cloverleaf architecture is genius, guiding visitors chronologically through the "Legend Rooms." You descend through nine floors of history, witnessing the evolution from the first Patent-Motorwagen to the latest concepts. The promise of the museum holds true: it has all the cars, showcasing an incredible collection of over 160 vehicles, including legendary Silver Arrows, luxurious Popemobiles, and iconic vehicles from every era. What elevates this museum far above others is its educational depth. It skillfully weaves the story of the founders, Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler, presenting not just their creations, but the entrepreneurial spirit and visionary ideas that drove them. Even more impressively, the museum integrates this automotive narrative with the broader history of the world, offering context on social and technological upheavals, allowing you to see how the car shaped (and was shaped by) the events of each period. It is a stunning, comprehensive, and perfectly presented exhibition that honors a legacy of engineering excellence. An absolute essential visit in Stuttgart!
Micu V — Google review
The Mercedes-Benz Museum is nothing short of extraordinary—a world-class experience that blends automotive history, innovation, and storytelling into one unforgettable visit. From the moment you step inside the striking, futuristic building, you’re transported into the rich legacy of one of the world’s most influential automotive brands. What impressed me most was the sheer breadth of historic Mercedes-Benz models on display. The museum takes you on a chronological journey, beginning with the very invention of the automobile and guiding you through decades of engineering achievements, design evolution, and cultural impact. I was genuinely amazed to discover just how deeply Mercedes-Benz has been woven into major historical moments over the years—whether in motorsport, luxury travel, or groundbreaking technological advancements. Each exhibit is thoughtfully curated, offering the perfect blend of information, visuals, and interactive elements. This isn’t just a place for car enthusiasts, though they will certainly be in heaven. It’s an experience the whole family can enjoy. There’s so much to see, explore, and learn that even those who aren’t deeply into cars will find themselves captivated. The museum is spacious, beautifully organized, and designed to keep visitors engaged at every turn. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time—at least a few hours—to truly appreciate everything the museum has to offer. From early prototypes to legendary racing cars, from elegant classics to modern innovations, every level reveals something new and fascinating. Incredible in every sense, the Mercedes-Benz Museum is a must-do for anyone visiting the area. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of the brand or simply curious about automotive history, this museum delivers an experience that is both inspiring and unforgettable. Highly recommended.

This well-preserved medieval monastery offers an enriching experience and is highly recommended for exploration.
Wow! What a special place. We cycled from Wertheim along the Tauber. Lovely views and ambience.
Genevieve K — Google review
Our visit to the Kloster was fine. Staff at entrance was friendly and the souvenir shop was cute but the inside of the Kloster isn’t really worth the entrance fee (5€ for adults without a guided tour) Some rooms were completely closed when we entered. Maybe need to rent a tour of monastery next time? But still way too pricey for 8€ to take a guided tour.

baroque-renaissance residence, place of sitting for the Markgraven. you can only visit with a guided tour, a gothic hall on the ground floor is open freely. the tour is a series of rooms and story of the owners. the place is under heavy renovation works (outside and inside), plans for end 2025 to be reopen without limitations again, but the replica is there to see especially the ceiling rococo in the fest Halle. the place was barely damaged in war so you could actually see original stuff from the 18th century.
David A — Google review
The palace offers an engaging visit that can be completed within an hour. Visitors have the opportunity to explore several interesting rooms and gain insightful information about the site. Guided tours are available and provide a great experience; however, they are conducted exclusively in German. For non-German speakers, understanding the full context may be challenging, as the information is presented in a printout sheet, which does not entirely capture the essence of the experience. Also some of the rooms are under repairs and are not visitable. Additionally, the ground floor features a porcelain exhibition, enhancing the visit with an interesting cultural touch.

Initially was thinking the park will reach the villa but that was not the case. It can’t even be seen from the park. The park is a beautiful one, most interesting part I’ve found to be the area in proximity of the lake. A visit is recommended.

A must visit and dogs are allowed too, every other Sunday they are even allowed to be off leash for play dates. But still recommend to keep them leashed unless your recall is good or other dog owners want contact. It’s just a decent manner to do so between dog owners :)

The Schlosspark is a stunningly beautiful garden, especially when the rhododendren are in bloom. One part of the park is inspired by the Japanese style, while the other part - which is still being extended and worked on - features a moor and has been left to nature. You can easily spend 3 hours in this park if you explore all the hidden paths and maybe have a seat on one of the many benches, to enjoy the views. It's one of my favourite places to visit! Don't forget your camera. ;)
Silvia L — Google review
Needs a lot of work and almost doesn't have any flowers (at least it didn't in April) not much love is given to this place as it seems abandoned and run down, even though the Schlosspark could be something really amazing if some work were REALLY put into it. The café does make good Flammkuchen, I give it that. The restaurant was closed because "of the season" which was quite disappointing. The place was a let down but hopefully it can turn into something great with a little bit of work and advertisment! Good luck 🤞

Sights & Landmarks
Harburg Castle, located on the Romantic Road in southern Germany, is a well-preserved 12th-century castle complex with a mix of architectural styles. Despite enduring numerous sieges and wars over the centuries, it has remained remarkably intact. The medieval covered parapets, towers, turrets, and red-tiled roofs create an almost cinematic setting. Guided tours offer insight into the castle's long history and are led by knowledgeable historians or curators who make the experience entertaining and informative.
The Castle was truly amazing, we did visit on our own but I recommend going with a tour guide because it can show more things like the interior of more important rooms in the castle, on your own you do not have access to them. But overall, it was a beautiful experience, the whole place was very well maintained and there is alot to see, you can really get immersed in the medieval feeling of this Castle. Highly recommend to visit!
Deian B — Google review
This is a well preserved castle near a wonderful little town of Harburg. The walkway from the town is whimsical, do not skip it. The castle has been in the same family for many centuries, they just recently transferred it to a non profit and opened to the public. They still have their residence here, and while those rooms are open for visitation, no photography is allowed. I definitely recommend to go for a guided tour,as it's the only way to see the inside of the castle, to climb the walls and explore it for real. For English speaking visitors they have a printout that follows the tour, but you are still seeing everything on the inside . It was a well spent time.
Elllen K — Google review
I had a great visit! They were very lovely and accommodating as I had my dog with me and due to the weather they allowed me to carry it during the castle visit and avoided missing the great guided tour . But this might be allowed only for small dogs that can be carried in travelling bags. So please check first.

I’m so happy we found this place. We were looking for an authentic Medieval experience and this castle delivered. It wasn’t crowded at all and you can take your time exploring. It felt just like we were back in the Middle Ages. The tickets are cash only but it was only a few euros per person. The gift shops and restaurant take credit cards and they were not crowded.
Adam A — Google review
Great castle. Plenty of parking, easy to walk around and freindly staff. They charge you to just get in which you can basically just walk around the courtyard. There's another fee to tour the inside. Although the fee is reasonable, just viewing the courtyard for a fee is a bit much. The inside tour was very rushed. There is a lot to see in the rooms and a lot of artifacts and pictures with dates, but they rush you through without a chance to see and read it. At the end, they leave you in an art gallery that is not very impressive. Maybe reverse this, make the art gallery part of the general admission and allow more time to look at the real artifacts in the rooms. Overall, still worth a visit.

Great tour. Sadly only in German. But for the English speakers there is a flyer which accompanies the tour to read about each room you get to visit making it worth it. Very cool experience, amazing, and worth a visit if you're near Bamberg. The tour is only in German, so be prepared to use Google translate if you're not fluent in the language. Beautiful castle. The architecture is so gorgeous and the information you receive throughout the tour was very interesting. They provide children with a questionnaire and when they answer all the questions, they receive a small price at the end. What makes me give this a 4 out of 5 is that you can't walk through the rooms alone and can only take a tour so if there is something you want to look at longer you can't because the group moves on. Also absolutely no cameras are allowed inside the castle so that was a bit of a letdown.

Lovely old stately home, we did not go inside even though that is possible. at the time of visiting the cafe and toilettes were open to the public and one could walk in the grounds of the park, this is not a park with ornate garden features but a large park with a lake and grasses were deer can roam. There is ample free parking and covid restrictions were applied at the time of our visit.

Wow, just WOW!!! We were blown away by the size and the number of different water activities and pools here. And to top it off they offer a discount for families on Fridays. The food and drinks were a bit pricey which I understand to make up for how cheap it is to enjoy this magnificent attraction. We arrived at 11 am and spent the entire day here. The lockers were numerous and it was nifty how they have your locker number assigned to on your wristband that allows the parent to charge for food and other services offered at the park. I have been to a couple of other water parks in Germany but none were quite so complete in functionality. Atlantis is by far THEE best water park to enjoy on any day. There is a heated pool outside along with bubbles. There is something for everyone of all ages to enjoy. I will definitely be bringing my family back to this location for the summer and winter if they offer services. They have gain5 a life long customer. The food was prepared very quickly and completely from start of my order and the hospitality of the server was impeccable. I absolutely can not wait to go back again and again to make some core memories with family and hopefully friends. This has been one of the highlights of my trip to Germany so far. I definitely recommend Atlantis to any and everyone. Not to mention the location. It was only a 20 min drive from my home in Hoechstadt. How cool is that. I wish I would known of this place as we have been traveling to Palm Beach in Nuremberg. Not any more.

Nice indoor water park. Good place to spend 3-4 hrs with kids. Great options for adults too which includes steam, sauna and additional massage (extra payment). Nice hot spring pool is my favorite. Slides and play area sounds little boring after few hours.. So there's a scope of making some more fun activities for the kids. But overall good place for all age groups. Nice cafeteria. Ice cream vending machine. Clean showers and changing rooms. Free parking. Nice cute goodie shop. Overall good experience. Pretty reasonable too. Different water activities for different age groups. Small pools, whirlpools, slides, water sports, wave pool etc.

Half the showers are broken, and shower area is extremely small and dirty. Machine to pay additional time does if course only take cash, no card. The bath once in is nice. Long waiting time possible though.

Atlantis Herzo is a fun-packed indoor pool with wave pool, whirlpool, slides, and a kids water playground. Great for families. The outdoor heated pool and sauna add to the relaxation. On-site bistro offers quick bites. A perfect spot for all ages to unwind and play.

Great waterpark with multiple slides, jacuzzis, wave pool, swimming areas - clean changing areas. Not too much wait for the slides. Bit of a queue at the entrance as only one till open.

Over priced. Stayed 8 minutes after alotted time , I had a baby and 2 kids Nd they charged us 8 euros ! Where is the humanity in this country, their hearts are black.

Nice swimming facilities and fun pool for school aged children with lots of climbing facilities. Would be great if water in children's area would be a bit warmer. The water temperature in the toddlers area is good, but the area is a bit small and gets crowded pretty quickly. Nice to swim outside of the building.

Nice !! A Super cruise around one of Middle Franconian's best lakes (Bavaria/Germany). A top tip= Go on a FRIDAY morning to get the 2 for 1 (adults) tickets for a 1.5hr cruise. Sit up the front if you can. On a sunny day it's relaxing, beautiful & picturesque... take your camera. The evening/sunset cruise is a very good option too.
