Ponte Sospeso di San Marcello Pistoiese

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Ponte Sospeso di San Marcello Pistoiese is a hidden gem, serving as a pedestrian walkway between Popiglio and Mammiano Bass. This suspended bridge offers stunning views of the alpine mountains from above a river canyon. It spans over 200m and is in excellent condition, with free parking nearby and a charming rose garden. While the bridge may sway slightly, it's perfectly safe to traverse and provides an exhilarating experience for those who conquer any fear of heights.
Really good idea to do when nearby. It’s not so long and even with young kids is ok if they love to walk. But don’t be afraid of heights
Ada C — Google review
Old glory. Park is closed and it was nearly impossible to get to the bridge. Also quite disturbing to see statues of Poetin and Trump, those folks don’t deserve a statue
Ivo T — Google review
Nice experience! At a certain point the height is 32m and the view is great. Definitely recommend it even for the people who are afraid of heights.
Elsio B — Google review
Beautiful area, breathtaking view! Not recommended for who terrified of heights.
Péter H — Google review
A long bridge made with metal grid, rocking left and right. Not too scary, it's impossibile to fall and the sight is beautiful. Anyway if you have a dog be careful about the grid, it's dangerous for pet nails. We had to bring our dog in our arms and it's not easy given that the space on the bridge is small. When people come from the other way it's difficult to pass.
Claudia C — Google review
Worth a visit if you're in the area. Beautiful mountain location. Easy to park close by and takes about 10 mins or so to walk across the bridge and back
Ben L — Google review
Nothing too special but a fun experience and nice views.

Glacier lake reached by a pine-forest trail, with views of mountains & waterside camping.
(Translated by Google) Starting from Monte Gomito (ascend by cable car), we followed trail 00-502 for semi-experienced hikers, arriving in this paradise, welcomed by volunteers at the Lago Nero refuge. We ate bread and cheese, drank two glasses of wine, a blueberry jam tart, and coffee, all with a free donation. We then descended through the shade of the beech trees to the Botanical Garden. A highly recommended hike. Escursione super consigliata.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful, not particularly difficult, trail. I recommend leaving your car at the botanical garden, after which a relatively easy 40-minute walk will take you to the shepherds' hut. From there, there are two routes to the black lake: one that's more scenic and easy, lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes, and one that's more strenuous, especially the last 500 meters of woodland, where there's a steep, rocky section. Finally, a field of endless blueberries opens up, taking you halfway. There, you can find refreshments, as volunteers offer coffee, tarts, and other items, and overnight accommodations are available. The lake is inhabited by numerous newts.

Mentioned on
1 list
Temporarily Closed
Nature preserve
Nature & Parks
Canyons
Canyon dell' Orrido di Botri is a stunning limestone gorge located in Bagni di Lucca, surrounded by a forested nature reserve. Carved out by the Mariana and Ribellino streams, the canyon reaches heights of up to 200 meters. Visiting in summer when water flow is lower allows for easier exploration. While off the beaten track, it's worth the journey to witness this natural wonder.
Very much off the beaten track but well worth the travel to experience this natural wonder. Helpful staff provided us with our free ticket (only 300 visitors a day allowed) and we were able to hire helmets from the restaurant there (€5 per adult, free for under 12s). Our 6 year old struggled a bit with the harder climbs but we were able to walk half the way into the canyon. You can do a guided tour (at cost) but you have to book in advance. We just turned up on the day.
Hamish C — Google review
Beautiful place, hidden treasure - off the beaten track in Tuscany. Trekking shoes necessary and be prepared to walk through beautiful clear water. Reservation needed to enter the park with the "Carabinieri Forestali" who register everyone who goes in. Can be done as a day trip from Florence.
Marta A — Google review
For me it was a really extreme and dangerous trip. Views are worth it, but... 1. There are almost no information how to walk on this way. You must just go as you see how the river flows. There are easier and more hard tracks but you just have to find them by myself. 2. There are also no railings that you can catch if you are going to slip. There are a few ropes, but just in those places when you are going to climb a rock that is 5 meters above your head. 3. On 3/4 of your trip you are going to walk in water, which is really cold even if there is a really hot weather. Also, because of the river, all rocks there are wet almost all the time so you are going to fall into the water at least one time. Even special shoes for hitchhiking won't help you. 4. You must leave the park before 6 p.m. There are an option that carabinieri won't let you go to the park before other people will leave it, and then you will wait a few hours to enter the park, so I reccomend going there in early morning. 5. I do not reccomend going here with small kids. Also, people shorter than 160 centimeters might find it hard to pass the water sometimes. Sooo... in conlusion- be really careful.
Geist — Google review
Amazing. Wow and again amazing! If ever in Tuscany take a trip to an amazing hidden gem. Appropriate shoes recommended. The best is to go with the first group in the morning where there is not yet crowded.
Glorija L — Google review
We didn't know we had to book for a guided tour to the Orrido and rent a helmet: there were many tourists it was all packed for that day (early August), so we couldn't visit it. Luckily, there is a short steep trail as an alternative, but it's pretty disappointing. Conversely, the restaurant located in the area is excellent and not too expensive!
Daniela G — Google review

Guinigi Tower

Mentioned on
70 lists
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Guinigi Tower is a 14th-century brick tower in Lucca, Italy. Visitors can climb 230 steps to reach the top, which is adorned with oak trees and offers stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains. The tower also houses the National Museum of Villa Guinigi, showcasing an extensive collection of art from both local and foreign artists who worked for ecclesiastical and secular clients in Lucca.
The view is stunning and the history behind the tower is also something to appreciate! We queued for only 5 min to get the tickets and made our way up straight away. The terrace view is breathtaking and it's so unusual to find trees on the top of a tower. During summer they offer a perfect shade to be underneath it.
Gaia T — Google review
This is my favorite tower! We've been all over and my family likes to go up on tall things, but I'm afraid of heights. This tower was awesome! The planters and center area were far enough back that I was totally fine hanging out at the top, without my fear causing me issues. It's a long climb up with a great view. I like that they also give families a little break on the price.
Chris B — Google review
Great view of Lucca from the top! Steps start easy- wide stone steps in sets of 10 or so, then when you get higher you've got a metal gantry with a fair amount of steps to climb, with a tight twist at the end. They hang out into space which was a bit scary as I am NOT good with heights but it was worth it!
Michael M — Google review
A stunning view of one of the most authentic cities in Tuscany. Lucca is known as the “city of one hundred churches” and one tower - a true example of genius in simplicity. The climb is relatively quick and not too difficult, with spots to rest along the way. Reaching the top, you find yourself on a small 20-square-meter island among the trees, surrounded by mountains. It’s an incredible feeling. They’ve even managed to grow new trees up there — a tiny garden raised high above the city. The view is breathtaking from nearly every angle!
Olga V — Google review
To my opinion this is a number one place to visit in Lucca. Its quite unique to see such a 45 m high tower made of brick and stone of local Romanesque-Gothic architecture with trees growing on its top. Just imagine, in the beginning of 14th century there was about 250 towers in Lucca! And as for every tower, if you climb up 233 steps you'll be awarded by 360deg view of old city of Lucca and surrounding mountains. View is stunning, just keep in mind the upper platform is very small that you can barely surround it because of crowds. Entrance is from behind the tower, not on the main street. If you want to buy ticket on place you'll have to probably wait about 15 minutes till the new slot is released, as this place is the most visited in the city. To buy tickets online its very difficult as the website doesn't work properly.
Tomi V — Google review
Interesting tower with the trees on top with great views of Lucca. Relatively wide stairs most of the way too (with the exception of just a few at the end) compared to many of the Tuscan towers. Worth a climb!
Rowland C — Google review
Good fun getting up all the 230 odd steps! Well worth it for the fantastic panoramic views of Lucca! Good exhibition of the artist Antonio Bueno included in the ticket price.
Stephen O — Google review
Fantastic place to visit. Not many people as Lucca feels like a place that hasn’t been discovered by tour guides. We paid to go up the Guinigi Tower and very glad we did. You have to be physically able to climb steep steps, and the top section is very narrow. If you have a larger waist it could be difficult. The views at the top were stunning, and the trees on top was a very unique thing to experience.

Duomo di San Martino

Mentioned on
+49 other lists
Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
The Duomo di San Martino is an 11th-century place of worship in Lucca, Italy. It features a square bell tower, a carved medieval crucifix, and a treasury museum. The cathedral is one of the city's historical landmarks, along with well-preserved medieval walls and stately buildings like the Basilica of San Frediano. Visitors can also explore cultural highlights such as the Palazzo Pfanner and the National Museum of Villa Guinigi.
We visited late at night so we couldn't go in. However, the exterior is impressive enough to make you go closer and explore all the scenes and symbols on the walls. There's even a labyrinth etched on one of the side walls (right underneath the tower) which is said to have only one way to the centre of it and only those who keep their faith in God are able to find it.
Denitsa G — Google review
Lovely. Definitely worth the detour. Next time I definitely need to lock in a proper guide. There's so much history there. Definitely a 5 stars once the refurbishments are completed and the Volto Santo is back. So sad we missed it, but an opportunity to come back!
Art T — Google review
A cathedral with a truly impressive history - its foundation dates back nearly a thousand years! Inside, you’ll find stunning works of sculpture, painting, and stained glass by renowned Tuscan masters. For example, Giorgio Vasari called the tomb of Ilaria del Carretto one of the greatest masterpieces of 15th-century sculpture. The most breathtaking part of the cathedral is its western façade, built in the Roman-Pisan style and completely covered in sculptures and mosaics - you could spend hours admiring the details. At the entrance, you’ll also find allegorical images of the months - it's fun to look for your birth month or zodiac sign. The cathedral labyrinth - the smallest known to exist in any church - is carved into the stone of one of the entrance pillars. The Latin inscription states:“the same labyrinth built by Daedalus the Cretan, from which no one who enters can escape, except Theseus, thanks to the thread of Ariadne.“
Olga V — Google review
We obtained the ticket for the bell tower the cathedral, museum and the other church with underground archaeological remains, very good value. All three sites were amazing, especially the bell tower,a lot of steps but worth it.
David S — Google review
A must visit place in lucca. Such an amazing architecture and interior design. Fortunately the tickets were really cheap too. And inside you can see a few interesting historical object too
Akınalp F — Google review
Lucca is one of those places that doesn’t try to impress you at first glance—it quietly grows on you with its charm and authenticity. Located just a short drive from Pisa, it offers a much calmer, more genuine atmosphere. What makes Lucca truly special are its perfectly preserved medieval walls, which now serve as a leafy promenade encircling the historic center. Walking or cycling the walls provides a unique perspective of the city’s rooftops, gardens, and bell towers. Inside the walls, you’ll find a maze of narrow streets, inviting piazzas, Romanesque churches, and elegant Renaissance buildings. A standout is the Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, built on the site of a Roman amphitheater—the oval shape is still clearly visible and creates a unique setting that’s both historic and intimate. Lucca is also known as the city of music (birthplace of composer Giacomo Puccini), of crafts, and of quiet cafes tucked into peaceful corners. It may not overwhelm with grandeur, but it gently captivates those who give it time. A must-visit for travelers seeking the soul of Tuscany, far from the crowds.
Martin V — Google review
Beyond its stunning Pisan-Luccan Romanesque facade, the cathedral charmed us with its Renaissance interiors and fascinating foundation excavations. The excavations were incredibly educational, taking us on a 2,100-year journey through the various layers of the Duomo's past. The lowest layer revealed a former Roman residence, while the next showed a public Roman thermae that later became a Lombard necropolis. During 400 AD the place turned to early Christian church. It definitely was a memorable visit!

Piazza dell'Anfiteatro

Mentioned on
+83 other lists
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Piazza dell'Anfiteatro is a vibrant oval plaza located in Lucca, Italy, built on the site of an ancient Roman amphitheater. Surrounded by medieval houses, it now hosts charming cafes and a bustling market. The square's elliptical shape is a result of the original amphitheater's imposing structure. Throughout history, it has been a central meeting point and played a significant role in city life and politics.
Quite stunning from a Roman architecture perspective. The town on Lucca is well worth a visit and this is the centre of the town. The vendors on the amphitheater are very touristy and much better fare can be found on the side streets, as usual in Italian tourist towns.
Graham P — Google review
Really interesting to think this was once Amphitheatre. Restaurants spill out all around. But note, that during nearly the whole month of October there is a big tent rught in the center, obstructing the view. This is used for Event Comic Lucca last week of October, where 250,000 people will descend upon this city.
Nancylee S — Google review
Quite a unique place. Oval square in the middle of the walled city of Lucca was a Roman amphitheater back in ancient times and with its destruction, houses were build on its place on the same plot, so the houses are build facing oval square. Place is accessible via 4 entrances from north, east, west and south, like all streets alignment in old Lucca since Roman times. Place is full of restaurants and bars where one can sit and drink aperol and enjoy the wonderful time in Lucca.
Tomi V — Google review

"Puccini e la sua Lucca" is a captivating event that celebrates the legacy of the renowned composer Giacomo Puccini in the enchanting setting of San Giovanni church. This experience, which unfolds nightly at 7:15 PM, features an hour-long concert that immerses attendees in the beauty of opera amidst stunning historical surroundings. The church itself offers fascinating glimpses into its Roman past with mosaics and ancient foundations, making it a treasure trove for history enthusiasts.
This is an experience that should not be missed. The concert lasts about 1 hour. You can purchase a book that has the lyrics in English for 5 euro upon entry. Went twice because it was so good!

A LOVELY SURPRISE. We booked this after seeing the poster outside as we walked nearby. The concert deserved much better publicity. Having seen many amateurish ‘tourist opera’ performances in Italian cities in the past we were sceptical ( Sorrento Three Tenors was the worst )… but the standard was high and professional with a programme of all Puccini arias. The finale was the gorgeous Love Duet from Madama Butterfly. The programmes and soloists are different every night so you could have many days of pleasure. Not sure why tickets must be bought for cash ( we are in travel industry and have never struck this before ). A good night with the dedication and voice of soprano Deborah Vincenti deserving a special mention. The accompanist needs to provide more support in tone and commitment ( looked a bit ‘over it’)

A wonderful dive into Italian culture. It was great and intimate. I can also recommend it with children (who generally like concerts) since it doesn't last too long (about one hour).

A most magnificent concert (July 11, 2025): excellence and emotion and drama at its best. And, with Lucca’s own Diego Fiorini at the piano, a Turandot FANTASIA that was sublime….

Basilica di San Frediano is a Romanesque church in Lucca, Italy, known for its golden mosaic facade and ornate 12th-century font. The city of Lucca offers a rich historical experience with well-preserved medieval walls, piazzas, and stately buildings like the Duomo di San Martino and Basilica di San Frediano.
The church itself is nice, going up the campanile is a must do when you’re here. It’ll give you amazing views of the city. A windy staircase at first leads up to normal stairs going all the way up to the top, leading to the amazing views. Do go into the side chapels of the church as well for some lovely old frescos.
Joost V — Google review
We visited Lucca, The Walled City, on our way to catch a train to Cinque Terre. Although we did not have enough time to thoroughly explore and appreciate the beautiful architecture and art, we were happy that we spent several hours here.
Jim M — Google review
The Basilica is definitely worth a visit. It doesn't look very special from the outside, but the interior and the tower have interesting architecture. You can choose a ticket just for the church or one that includes the tower — the view from the top is great. The church was founded by an Irish bishop. One of the most popular saints here is Saint Zita, whose remains are in one of the chapels. She’s the patron saint of domestic workers, which was her own job.
Albert K — Google review
You’ve seen the classic mosaic on the exterior - a landmark church in Lucca. And it is worth the ticket price to go inside to see the old art and architecture. Turn the corner to one of the chapels and see Saint Zita entombed in her glass coffin. Kinda cool and creepy at the same time.
Rick J — Google review
newly restored mosaic on the front façade of the church is its best part. You can also climb the bell tower, but i didn't enter due the lack of time. Nice small square with cafes in front of the church. Church had paid entry.
Tomi V — Google review
Most extraordinary church facade. The city’s patron saint is preserved inside, attracting many followers daily. The week I was there happens to be her festival, there are flower display in front of the church that is like a mini-golf course with a garden and a pond. It charges an entrance fee but worth the visit.
L L — Google review
The church is one of the oldest in Lucca. It costs €3 to enter. You can purchase the ticket online or when you arrive. The church is open 9am to 6pm. When you enter the lady provides you with an information leaflet in your language. As you approach the church there is a large mosaic on the outside of the church and a number of frescos inside the church. Each look like they are painted yesterday. Once inside the church look up at the ceiling as this beautiful.
Lynn H — Google review
St Zita really deserves her sainthood. The church is incredibly cute and serene, but when you enter her chapel and see this lady’s small but sturdy body, you are lit up with an incredible energy and levity. I never experienced anything quite like it. The whole space beams with her positive energy and you get a smile downloaded to your face immediately. Who knew mummies could make one feel so good?

Mura di Lucca, also known as Lucca City Walls, encircle the historic center of Lucca, Italy. These Renaissance-era fortifications have been repurposed into a scenic pedestrian promenade and bicycle path adorned with gardens and panoramic viewpoints. The gates of the walls, some dating back to the 16th century, offer entry points into the city and provide a glimpse into its historical security framework.
It is such an interesting city wall. There is a road with many trees at sides on top of it. You can walk there. And I really recommend taking a sort walk.
Akınalp F — Google review
Very unique place of the walled city of Lucca. Its almost whole round walkable on the top of the walls or street inside the walls. Plenty of trees, walkways are suitable for jogging and fitness exercises and walking of the locals. very calm green place. From the walls you can see the old city and also outside, small water channels under the wall. All around are about 11 bastions and couple of gates to the city. The wall is 4 km long and is among the best preserved Renaissance fortifications in Europe, and the second largest intact example of a fully walled Renaissance city after Nicosia on Cyprus.
Tomi V — Google review
A short walk...even with your roller bag...from the train station to the walls of Lucca. I always get a smile when the gate comes into view. The walled city of Lucca still holds plenty of lore with its many restaurants and merchants. This trip we stayed at the Grand Universe right in the center of Lucca so we could be immersed in the city culture and people.
Traveling G — Google review
We used the ramp at Porta di San Pietro to take a one-hour stroll anticlockwise along the wall. The views of the old city on one side and of the Lucca hills and Apuan Alps on the other are charming and inspiring. Due to lack of time we were not able to walk the entire length (4.4 km) of the wall, but the segment we did, was organized as a usual public park. The park would benefit of informative panels that could provide visitors with historical context and details on the surrounding area.

Fun way to visit the city. You can walk, stroll, bike, we rent a 6 person bike. 1-2h walking.

My favourite part of our visit to Lucca was the Mura di Lucca. An absolutely brilliant use of the city wall by having a multipurpose recreational trail on top of the wall! Paved for walking and wheeling, the many ramps give ready access for users. The bulwarks of the wall have parks, playgrounds, and picnic areas. Several museums and the Botanical gardens are accessed from the trail. The Mura also has several gates as well as pedestrian tunnels. Stunning views of the hills surrounding Lucca. Worth a saunter!

Chiesa di San Michele in Foro is a remarkable 11th-century church in Lucca, known for its intricately carved facade resembling a wedding cake and featuring a panel painting by Lippi. The city of Lucca offers various attractions such as Piazza Napoleone, Domus Romana Archaeological Site, Clock Tower, and more. Visitors can also explore the local culture, dining options, shopping spots, and nightlife.
The Chiesa di San Michele in Foro, located in the heart of Lucca, Italy, is a stunning example of Romanesque architecture with its intricately detailed façade and towering statue of the Archangel Michael. The church's marble exterior is a masterpiece, adorned with ornate carvings and columns, each uniquely designed. Inside, the atmosphere is serene, with beautiful artwork and a sense of timeless spirituality. While the interior is more understated compared to the elaborate exterior, it still offers a quiet beauty and historical charm. A visit to San Michele in Foro is a must for art and history enthusiasts exploring Lucca.
Mansour Z — Google review
The outside of the church is framed by stunning marble columns and reliefs. Inside, everything seems simple, if you don't know one interesting secret- there are intriguing hand-drawn animal figures on some of the columns. These drawings are examples of medieval graffiti, created by pilgrims, clergy, or local visitors during the Middle Ages. Such graffiti often included ships, cities, and animals, reflecting personal experiences, devotional expressions, or observations of daily life. They serve as a testament to the human connection and continuity within sacred spaces across generations.

After seeing it the second time, it is still just as cool as the first. It is leaning for sure and it is a beautiful building. Crazy to see the "adjustment" they made on the middle floors if you look close enough. Still hate the fact that nobody follows the rules about staying off grass and people standing inside the no go zone for their pictures. Everyone is more important than anyone else. And unless you live within walking distance leave your dog at home.
Jason C — Google review
Most beautiful church in Lucca specially for its façade from 14th century with large sculptures and inlays, as the church itself is much older. Church is dedicated to Archangel Michael which 4m high statue is on the top of the main façade between two other angels. "In Foro" means that it was build over Roman Forum. church inside is a basilica type one with less decoration, and there is an organ. Under the altar there is a mummified body of pilgrim San Divino Armeno that died 1050, oldest known mummified saint in Italy. Entrance is free.
Tomi V — Google review
This is so gorgeous, spectacular! The external is super nice. Captivating and worth all photo taking. It is free to enter and visit. You would find the interior less spectacular but it has its charm. Definitely a visit. You can also enjoy the building for some food or drinks or dessert just near the place.

The Mercato Centrale, also known as the Mercato delle Vettovaglie or Mercato Coperto, is a historic food market housed in a 19th-century building designed by Angiolo Badaloni. This market is not only an incredible architectural attraction in Livorno but also a culinary hotspot offering an array of local delicacies and specialties.
Visiting the Mercato was one of the highlights and top experiences we had in Livorno, a city we really enjoyed. Fantastic array of fresh and other food stuffs, from cheese and wine, to seafood and sweet treats. Stallholders were very friendly and helpful. We visited twice to do 'proper' shopping for our holiday accommodation pantry. Overall really good value and lots of local and different produce and products all under one roof. Whilst we did nt, there's also a number of cafes or kiosks where you can have a snack or lunch.

A huge indoor market selling fabulous local fruit, vegetables, breads, meat, fish, wine, pastries, fresh pasta etc from well stocked stands full of people doing their food shopping. Loads of different bruschetta's also available one more inventive than the other. Be careful of gypsy women pickpockets , who are active in spite of strong security.

We mainly came to use the free washrooms in the market. It's a bit old. But it's also a good experience for us to walk around this local market. The free wifi service didn't work for us, though. Couldn't figure out how to register for it because the language was Italian.

Do yourself a favour if you like seafood and come here. Restaurants round the side cook seafood of your choice from the stalls in the market, you won't get fresher or seafood cooked better elsewhere from people that know simple Italian cooking using the freshest ingredients

We were visiting Livorno and came here to check out this popular central market place. It’s got many vendors selling baked goods, meats, seafood, cured meats, cheeses, and some other items. They have food vendors inside as well. The entire place is interesting and clearly been around a long time. It was about 2/3 populated with vendors, so there were plenty of empty spaces. Overall, it’s one of the very few things to see/do in Livorno. There isn’t a lot going on in this town otherwise.

We had breakfast here as many days as we could when we were visiting! You have to try the cappuccino and the tuna-tomato-egg sandwich at the Oil Bar! And the sweet pastries (chocolate canoli and sweet croissant) from Pane.E.Dolci.Original (bakery right in front of Oil Bar - run by the sweetest old lady)! Insanely good breakfast! We also obviously bought a bottle of olive oil and a bag of pasta from the oil bar!

Very nice market, nice to go early morning when it's quiet. Good mix of fresh vegetables, meat, fish, cheese and all types of bread. A few are empty but still a nice experience. Nice to see all the fresh seafoods. Closed on Sunday but also on Monday the activity is low(er) and pretty limited choice so avoid going on a Monday.

Located on the stunning Tuscan coast, overlooking the Etruscan Coast, Acquario di Livorno is a renowned destination for marine enthusiasts. Named after biologist Diacinto Cestoni, it houses an impressive array of marine life including blacktip reef sharks, sea turtles, seahorses, zebra sharks and Napoleon fish. The aquarium also features a section dedicated to insects, amphibians and reptiles.
The Livorno Aquarium offered us a very engaging experience. While seemingly small, its interior was spacious and well-organized. We were impressed by exhibitions of sea tortoises, crustaceans, mollusks, and coral reef fishes. We were also excited to discover living reptiles, amphibians, and a captivating ant colony on the first floor. It certainly holds its own individuality against other aquariums we've visited in Lisbon, Barcelona, Valencia, and Rotterdam.
Horia B — Google review
If you buy tickets in advance, entry is easy. When we were there it was a rainy day, and it was extremely busy. The aquarium is… nice. At best. Not necessarily worth a trip around. My kid liked the reptile space on the first floor the most.
Joost V — Google review
Was a bit skeptic because of the ratings. I think it was very interesting, the tanks were clean, there were lots of different species, and the ants on the first floor were something I have never seen before. Maybe a bit expensive compared to its size but it was worth for us.

Went yesterday with my wife during our trip. We saw an ad for it and was sold. And what a great experience it was. I truelly never witnessed a sea turtle up this close, let alone see it swim. The place is great and its a nice entertainment to go during a holiday
Klaas B — Google review
Visited the aquarium — honestly, a complete waste of time and money. Tickets cost €15, and for that price, you’d expect at least something engaging. But the place is boring, and has very few animals. The only interesting part was taking a photo — and that says a lot. From what was actually interesting: a few fish, two big turtles, and three small sharks. That’s it. If you just want to look at water, some gloves, and a few random fish, you don’t need to pay €15 — all of that is available for free in the sea right next door.
Asdg S — Google review
We had lots of fun here. We have been twice now and loved it both times. First time we went was middle of the week and found it wasn't too busy we could get a sunbed and lockbox very easily with plenty of spare beds around us. The second time we went was very busy and couldn't get a sunbed even with getting to the park within 30 minutes of it opening but we still had the best time. Found a lockbox free in the sun. So we could still have a picnic in the sun and sunbath in between rides! Very clean and friendly staff all around. I would recommend you book a sunbed online before hand if you are wanting one!!

The Collegiate Church of San Cristoforo, also known as the Duomo, is a remarkable Romanesque church dating back to the 11th century. Its facade is made of white marble with alabaster detailing and offers stunning views of the surrounding valley and the Apuan Alps, including Monte Forato. The church has undergone several expansions and renovations over the centuries due to natural events like earthquakes. Inside, visitors can find an unfinished baptismal bowl with intricately carved details.
This imposing stone structure perched on top of the highest point in Barga is the reward for a long climb from the front historical gate. As with moist Churches in Italy, the front of the Duomo is very plain, but their is a wide plaza in the front, and a small grassy area off to the south side that has a great panoramic view. Inside, the church is very simple with a stone pulpit with the front pillars supported by two lions. The interesting thing is that the pulpit is only decorated on the sides that face the congregation. Simple wooden pews line the church with some more modern chairs in the choir area.

The 11th century cathedral with its Romanesque architecture sits at the topmost eleation of the historical center of the commune Barga, located strategically to provide a towering appearance. A walk up the historical center with cobblestone paved narrow roads, old mediaval looking houses, 19-20 th century cars is a treat indeed..

Top of the hill top of the view. This church dates as back as the 9th century but is possibly situated on a previous building. It got expanded and changed entirely through the centuries also due to natural events such as earthquakes. Amongst the "new" stones are easily distinguishable previus's construction material, that feels of an even better quality... Inside the church is also present an unfinished baptesimal bowl, with one of the knobs left uncarved.

Friendly staff, nice park with beautiful places to picnic, play and chill BUT the two enclosures are way to small, especially the one for the bears. Bagno Maurizio is a lovely beach spot that offers colorful rows of sun loungers, umbrellas and rental beach tents on the sandy shore. It also features a play area for kids, making it ideal for families with children. The beautiful sandy beach right by the water provides an excellent view of both the sea and mountains. Furthermore, it offers full umbrella and chairs rentals for 20 which also includes a change room to store non-valuable items safely.
Incredible, convenient, and wonderful experience at Bagno Maurizio! The rest of the reviews are truly spot on, including the generosity and warm welcome from Stefano. We were a little overwhelmed with the number of beach clubs available in Viareggio and are so happy we found Maurizio. We will definitely be back!!! Highly recommend!

Maybe this is a place where you can trust all the comments. The beach is extremely tidy, the umbrellas and tents are comfy, and most importantly, Stefano and Claudia are such a treasure: you are welcomed with such a warm and friendly attitude, that you know that you will come back for sure. Stefano is around and can help you with everything. He is available on WhatsApp if you need any information. I can just highly recommend choosing Bagno Maurizio. Thanks for everything: Giorgio 😉

This is THE beach club! Stefano and Claudia are incredible hosts. Giving restaurant recommendations, calling for taxis. This isn’t just a business, you are family! Beautiful sea and beach with a variety of options, tents (cabana style) or umbrellas. We enjoyed our three days and will certainly return from our home in Orvieto. This is our Italian beach location.

Stefano and his colleague, whose name I unfortunately don’t know, provided excellent service! I waited about 20 minutes because there were other people ahead of me, but now that I know how great it is, I would gladly wait much longer! I went alone and paid only €10 for an umbrella, one sun lounger, and three chairs! I went out for lunch at 3 PM and came back at 4 PM, no problem at all! The locker cost €4 for the whole day, and I can go back to it as many times as I want — it works with our own fingerprint. Amazing! Highly recommend. A million stars! Thank you!

Maurizio beach is wonderful. Stefano who runs the family business is a lovely person who made us feel very welcome. The beach is exceptionally clean. The facilities are of a very high standard and very good value for money. €25 for two people for the whole day in August.

We were a group of 16 people and we had a really great day at bagno Maurizio. Stefano is the best guy here, friendly, funny and caretaking. The beach is really nice and everything is clean. Thank you for this nice experience.
Helen B — Google review
There are 50more sunbathing places left to right, you can choose any of those. But Stefano and his sister provides “family feel like” service. You gonna come here and you will immediately meet owners. They are gonna greet you like they know you for ages. You gonna feel something very strange: feeling that you belong here, that they have been waiting for you. Even if you sad, their faces will make you immediately smile and they will fulfill your day. Absolutely incredible service, bathing place, toilets and everything else. I will come back here every single time i am in Viareggio. Bars with food and drinks are there as well. Thank you!

Beautiful climbing park! We were well guided, professional, English can be spoken and very friendly staff. The black route is one of the hardest we have ever done. Beautifully landscaped, well maintained and lots of shade.

We came with three adults, ages 72, 46, 45, and kids ages 12 and 8, and we all loved it. We’ve been to some adventure parks in the United States, and we found this one to be the most challenging physically. You’ll definitely get a good workout. The staff was professional and helpful. Make sure you plan to arrive early so you can receive your instructions without missing time on the courses. There's about a 5-minute walk from the parking lot to the park. You can make reservations online, but you still don't pay until you arrive.

Great morning spent climbing and zip lining. Caters to all ages- we had 3 kids (6,9,11) and 2 adults. All left very happy!! Instructors were helpful and attentive. Lovely and cool in the forest- a nice break from the August searing heat! Recommend if in Garfagnana area.
L J — Google review
Awesome place for young and old. The instructors are professional and friendly. They keep an eye on you to ensure you remain safe during your activities. There are climbing courses to suit all ages. The forest offers natural protection from the heat and even though we visited on a day with 32°c we were not bothered by the heat. At the end you will have had a good workout and be proud of your achievements. You can take your own food to grill or buy refreshments there. Will return again!

Really lovely place - small courses for younger kids from about 4/5 up which our 7 year old (when 8 & 9 year old friends) loved, and a couple of larger zipwire courses for older kids & adults. Like Go Ape but much cheaper! Also a kids play area with swings etc and a cafe selling coffee, snacks/ice cream & even beer, all nice & shaded in the woods, so lovely on a hot day. Staff really friendly & great with the kids, even teaching them some Italian phrases while we had coffee! The walk down through the woods from the car park could be a bit treacherous for people with mobility problems or with babies in buggies, but apparently if you carry on on the road past the car park & go down between the side of the woods & the campo sportivo there is an easier/flatter way in. We called to reserve a time, but it was relatively quiet when we went (3pm on a weekday in school holidays).

Incredibly restored and well kept castle, with amazing views in all directions. Friendly staff, cheap entrance, cheap food and drinks on-site. Just beware the walk up (from the parking) is quite steep and long (10-15 minutes).

What an amazing place. Staff dressed in character costume and a lovely, authentic museum showing what it would have been like to live here back in the day. The staff showed us how the trebuchet worked (don’t worry about health & safety, as long as no one stands in the target area 100yds away, it’ll be ok). Loved every minute of our visit. Run by the community so please support them with a visit. Extremely reasonable entry cost.

Pietra di Bismantova is a stunning geological formation located in Castelnovo ne' Monti, province of Reggio Emilia, northern Italy. It features a narrow plateau with steep walls that rise 300 meters as an isolated spur from the nearby hills. The top of the plateau stands at an elevation of 1,047 meters above sea level and offers panoramic mountain views.
An incredible geological formation that stands alone in the many valleys surrounding it. La Pietra di Bismantova is a must stop if you are exploring the Appenino Tosco Emiliano
Giulio A — Google review
A truely unusual piece of geology. The hike up is for nearly anyone (no wheelchairs or elderly). Rock climbers, take note. There are also 3 via ferrata. Charming rifugio (restaurant) at the base.
Eugenio F — Google review
What an amazing place. There is only a little difficulty to reach the top of the plateau because of the unstable path. There is a bar at the beginning of the mountain and restrooms also for people with handicap. You can reach the top both using the path and climbing the steep sloops if you have enough skills. As far I can see there is also a climbing school for novice. The effort in order to reach the top is repaid with the amazing POV. Try to believe.
Luca P — Google review
Huge recommendation for this place. Loved the view and the track to get on top (it's just "20" minutes and the only tough spot lasts for like 20 meters very close to the top). It's easy for adults and children.

Nestled at the end of the public wharf, Sunset Versilia - Wine Bar & Restaurant offers a unique experience that sets it apart from other spots in Camaiore. With stunning vistas of the Mediterranean Sea and the majestic Apuan Alps, this venue is perfect for those seeking a refreshing escape from the summer heat, thanks to its pleasant breeze. The attentive service enhances your visit as you indulge in delicious food that surpasses many local options.
Nice strong cocktails with an amazing view. You get a plate of finger food for each cocktail (about €10 for the drink and food). Wonderful spot where you can sit in the sun or shade. They also have bigger meals and a toilet which you'll need after your multiple drinks.

A great spot to find a good drink and a great view. We got a Pina Colada fragola and it tasted great. Plus the addition of the included bar snacks made this a relaxing and enjoyable rest stop on our beach trip. Would recommend everyone give Sunset Versilla a try.

At the end of the public wharf - Sunset has what most other Camaiore locations lack - a beautiful view of the Med and of the Apuan Alps behind you. I highly recommend it for a very pleasant relaxing experience.

According to tradition, traveling along the Via di Monte Bardone, which connected Parma with the Lunigiana allowing pilgrims to pass through the Apennine chain, he arrived near the Cisa pass and stopped there to rest, hanging the relics, which he forgot, on a tree upon resuming the journey; as soon as he realized it, he retraced his steps, but, after finding the tree he had been leaning on, despite numerous efforts he was unable to reach the branch on which he had attached his precious load, which had grown prodigiously; the plant lowered only when the bishop promised to leave the relics in Berceto. The following year the King of the Lombards Liutprando founded a Benedictine monastery near the ancient temple according to the rule of San Colombano di Bobbio, dedicating it to Saint Remigio and appointing Moderanno as its prior, who returned there after reaching Rome and following a final journey in his hometown. The small place of worship was then elevated to the status of an abbey church and in 879 it was assigned as a commenda to the Bishop of Parma Guibodo. In 1007 the monastery was closed, while the church, since then dedicated to San Moderanno, was raised to a parish church, directly dependent on the bishop of Parma Sigefredo II. Towards the end of the 12th century, the ancient Lombard place of worship was completely rebuilt in Romanesque style on a Latin cross layout, with three naves ending in three apses to the east. Between 1480 and 1502 the parish church underwent major renovation works, at the behest of the Count of Berceto Bertrando de' Rossi; on this occasion the pillars were rebuilt, the arches were replaced, a span was eliminated, the main apse was rebuilt in a square shape and the side naves and chapels were raised. In 1845, due to land subsidence, the façade, with the exception of the portal, was rebuilt in Romanesque style; the reconstruction works also involved the upper part of the bell tower. In 1971 the church underwent consolidation and conservative restoration works.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful Romanesque style cathedral. The church may appear dark but a few meters ahead on the right (entering from the facade) you will find the possibility to light it up entirely by inserting a euro. (Original) Bellissimo Duomo in stile romanico. La chiesta potrà apparire buia ma pochi metri avanti sulla destra (entrando dalla facciata) troverete la possibilità di illuminarla tutta inserendo un euro.

Exquisite spot with a simple but delicious menu in a breathtaking setting overlooking the fondo valley. The Pisarie e faso was exceptional! Wonderful deserts and local wine. Kind staff. Highly recommended!

58 euros for a mezzo litro of wine and a plate of salame and cheese. Never paid so much ANYWHERE in Italy Yes the cheese and charcuterie was good but it is theft. We were not aware of the price before they gave us the bill. We arrived when the kitchen was closed but they said they could offer a plate of mixed cheese and meat. We were clearly not expecting to pay so much and would have never agreed on this. Maybe it's our fault because we didn't ask before for the price We tried to play cards like we do in all the places we go but the owner told us we couldn't play 🤷🏻‍♂️ Overall a disappointing experience

Simple but exquisite local flavours in a relaxed environment. The Pisarei e faso, tortellini with sage and gutturnio wine were memorable experiences.

An amazing experience in a place with a lifespan of more than 5 generations. An ambiance as an old tavern, great wine and food in the heart of a medieval village in the hills just outside of Piacenza. I reccomend the wine in the traditional "scodelle", small porcelain bowls in the place of traditional wine glasses.
