This was the highlight of our entire trip, take a short bus ride from Beaulieu Sur Mer, it's worth loading Lignes Dazur as this can be used on both bus and trams in the area. Entry is up hill so I recommend comfortable shoes and clothing as there is quite a lot of walking to appreciate the villa and garden in full. Entry fee is 13 Euros per adult which is very reasonable considering there is no time limit and you can stroll round and appreciate the beautiful interior and exterior. They offer a guide device in several different languages, they do require a identification for these to be provided but it is very informative and provides detailed guides throughout each area which is numbered to ensure you are able to take in the history. Upstairs there is a short film about Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild. The gardens are beautiful, each have different themes and a wide range of unique plants, flowers, statues and photo perfect views.

The villa was built in the early 1900s by Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild. It’s filled with antiques, artwork, and rare porcelain, but the real highlight is outside. The gardens are on another level. There are nine of them, each with a different theme. The French garden has a beautiful fountains. The gardens are serene and beautifully designed. Every turn feels like a new discovery. What makes it even more special is the view. On one side, you see the Bay of Villefranche. On the other, the Bay of Beaulieu. You feel surrounded by water and sky, with the gardens stretching out in front of you. The villa itself is very well preserved. You get a strong sense of the baroness’s personality and taste. It's a UNESCO site, unique as it's the only one in the world that is complete as a citadel built in the Late 1700 s and built for an army of 70-100 thousand soldiers. The area has been invaded so many times over history, the buildings are so intact and well constructed the scale is mesmerising, when you're there you can only imagine how once it was so busy with thousands of young soldiers through time occupying that space and training . All that is left is the silence and the sound of the birds . It's free to view and at the weekend you can view the museum with the uniforms .

The building itself is impressive and has a lot of potential. But the site is not developed and in quite a sad state. It's OK for a quick walk through but I would not go out of the way to explore it.

Nice thing to see. Very impressive structure. But as it in many cases it looks more spectacular from Google Maps than in teal life. It feels abit abandoned .. not well kept.

Such a shame that this site has been left to ruin. We walked around the main square as that was as much as you had access to. Main entrance was closed so wasn't able to go inside.

Nice spot to explore and learn about naval history. Gallery has to-scale ships and also many interactive spaces. You can also go inside a decommissioned submarine. There is a nice view of the Genova area at the top of the gallery.

The museum is quite big. It consist of 4 levels with each floor has a different stor in which youre directed to have a tour route to enjoy all the story it host some colombus history, the genovese role, italian immigration around the world, and a replica how the ship looked like in the past. If youre scared of narrow space, id suggest to skip the submarine experience. Note: im a bit confused how to find the exit door at the end of the route.

Outstanding experience, not often seen in museums in general. Five floor building with a lot of contents, including real-size genoese vessels, various historical stuff about maritime history of the Genoa republic, and a great panoramic view and a seating area on the top floor. At the end, you even get a real submarine experience, located in the nearby port. Definitely worth visiting!

The places does impress the wanderers due to its vastness and abundance of various exotic expostinions. There are many interesting acquariums including both commonly known sea critters as well as even more interesting unpopular ones. If it's not enough for you, don't worry! There are a handful of beautifully recreated biomes containing the richness of coral reefs, raw desert enviroments full with beautifull animals as well as huge pool with eager to play dolphins within.

I love visiting aquariums. My favorite places among the aquariums I've visited so far are L’Oceanogràfic Valencia, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and Moskvarium. This aquarium Genoa is quite small but it's easy to visit location for tourists and jellyfish tanks were lovely. I visited there during the winter off-season and there was no line so I am not sure if it was necessary to buy the on-line entrance ticket in advance.

It took about 2 hours to fully explord it. There are many species of marine animals here. It is always interesting to look at them and at the same time read information about them. We LOVED IT, this aquarium is huge and has some sea life I haven’t seen in US. We love aquariums, you can’t go wrong. Our daughter loves the jellyfish and some cool snakes in there Husband said the manatees were amazing and large variety of sea life and frogs. When you start you are on the bottom level and you go through the whole bottom level… then you go upstairs and see everything upstairs but also have a view of sharks and other animals you saw downstairs and upstairs is best for pictures of the dolphins and sharks - for me. There is also an area you can touch some sea life.

Really cool historic bridge with a stunning view. We parked outside the town, just next to the bridge. There's nothing much around, but it was worth the hour drive for us.

Beautiful place, in fact the village has been awarded as the most beautiful village in Italy couple of years back. I fully agree with that! Since we went on Xmas day, there were literally nobody around. The drive through the hill (last 10-15mins of drive) is bit difficult since the width of the road is just enough for one vehicle. But with almost no traffic, seems to be ok. I love to visit the tourist places when it is empty, and I am glad I picked the Xmas day for the visit. There is a restaurant near this bridge, but was closed. The village also was very quite. Just my kind of place!

Amazing medieval bridge below which is an area of river perfect for swimming. Lots of families, my children had a great time swimming about looking at the fish. Some shade under the arches of the bridge, recommend taking a picnic.

We walked from Vernazza to Monterosso. It took about an hour and a half. The first half hour, in particular, is quite tiring and challenging; you're walking uphill. There are beautiful views along the way. There's no way to refill your water bottle along the way, so stock up on water beforehand.

Please take cat food with you - lots if possible!!!!!! There is a cat village and a designated area to leave food so people can feed them over time. It is up to us to feed these homeless cats. Walked this trail today and to my surprise, there was a few homeless cats who are in a small gated area with cat houses and a sign that states something along the lines of “homeless and unloved cats, please feed” …there was no food there and they looked quite skinny. If you are planning to walk this trail, please bring a bag of cat food, maybe some wet cans (not tin, they can cut their tongue on those), water… whatever you can. If I had known this going into the hike, I would’ve brought it. I’m not sure what the deal is with any caretakers for the cats but it would be nice to have a sign or something prior to starting the trail to let people know there are cats along the way, so people can purchase food before going up…. Lots of people were very upset to see the cats there with no food and there’s nothing to do about it at that point… it is mid-trail and nothing around. Otherwise, it is very uphill so be very prepared - but the sights are well worth it!

Pro tip: apparently you need a Cinque Terre pass to enter but everyone was passing through just to check the views and then come back. This is where you'll take the best photo of Vernazza. The start is just on the side of a restaurant, to the left you'll see a narrow street.

3.6 km, about 2h walk. It tooked us 2h15 with a big break at a bar about 1km away from Monterosso, the only one along the way. Lots of steps, but pretty easy to walk with good shoes... And the viens are so worth it !

This is a very strenuous trail with 800 ft of elevation. It was quite difficult with many stairs on both the accent a decent. We’re in our 30s and 40s and it took us about two hours with several stops for photos and the drink water. The terrain is treacherous at times. Make sure you wear the appropriate shoes with tread and waterproofing if possible as it is very muddy in some areas. The views and experience is absolutely worth it though!

Very beautiful hike. WARNING for anyone that wants to do this hike but isn’t a seasoned hiker: start from Vernazza and go towards Monterosso!! I started from Monterosso and it was a LOT of steep stairs & uphill. I read a review from someone on here who talked about having to climb up on all fours… while I didn’t get to that level I DEFINITELY was feeling that review to my core 😂😭 If I were to do it again, I would start from Vernazza. It’s doable both ways, but know that it will be more difficult if you start from Monterosso. The views will be beautiful & the same whichever town you start from. I had to take a lot of breaks, but many people (both old & young) did the same so I didn’t feel too left out. I recommend you do the hike early in the morning or towards late afternoon, that way you can have a little bit of a breeze and it’s not constantly hot. For reference, we did the hike with a lot of breezes and I STILL had my shirt drenched with sweat. If it is rainy, be careful!! Wear appropriate shoes for that. We did it while it was sunny & dry but there were many areas that were slip-potential. Also, you can access the viewpoint of the Vernazza background for picture-taking WITHOUT having to hike. I have included a picture so you know which viewpoint I’m talking about.

We took the train from La Spezia to visit all 5 the little villages. Every village has its own charm. Absolutely stunning views, great vibe, and awesome cultural experience.

A wonderful place for hiking, though it’s pretty challenging in places; especially if you show up in the middle of a heatwave, as we did. Lovely villages (especially Vernazza and Monterosso) and terrific coastal views to enjoy. We found that being based at nearby La Spezia was cheaper, convenient, and a little more ‘authentic’…..Levanto would probably work, too.

Great way to see/visit Cinque Terre. Take a small boat tour out of La Spezia, easiest to book online. Our 7 hour day trip included 2 swimming stops, 1-1/2 hour stop for lunch in one of the villages, knowledgeable tour captain, and snacks and drinks on our boat. We went in late May and paid 135 euros/person.

Not recommended! 💧 Hydration is crucial, bring enough water, especially in warm weather. ⸻ 2️⃣ Vernazza • Probably the most photogenic village. • Small harbor, narrow streets, perfect for a break or some gelato. ➡️ Hike Vernazza – Corniglia, 1h30 – 2h. • Similarly demanding trail with elevation changes and sunny sections. ⸻ 3️⃣ Corniglia • Village perched on a cliff, no direct beach access. • Climb the Scalinata Lardarina (370 steps) or take the local shuttle bus. • Quieter atmosphere, ideal for a coffee break. ➡️ Options: ✔️ You can continue hiking to Manarola, but the trail is often closed or challenging. ✔️ A good idea can be to take the train to Manarola, especially if it’s hot. ⸻ 4️⃣ Manarola • Romantic, famous for sunsets and local wines. • Perfect dinner spot with a sea view. We had a great dinner at Tony’s, stunning view and perfect seafood. ➡️ Via dell’Amore trail Manarola – Riomaggiore: • Entrance fee is 10 €/person. It’s. It included in the Cinque Terre Train Card as we though. :) • Easy, scenic walk with stunning views. • If you don’t want to pay, taking the train is a quick alternative. ⸻ 5️⃣ Riomaggiore • Charming harbor, rocky beach, steep narrow streets. • Great for a final stop or sunset photos. ➡️ Return by train to La Spezia or Monterosso. ⸻ 🍇 Insider Tips from Real Experience: ✔️ Be ready for lots of stairs and uneven terrain. ✔️ The sun can be brutal on long exposed stretches, especially midday. ✔️ Stopping at bars or small terraces in the vineyards, like we did, is perfect to rest – amazing views, a glass of local wine or a cold lemonade makes all the difference. ✔️ Don’t underestimate the trail – it’s accessible, but requires basic fitness and proper footwear. ⸻ 🎟️ Tickets & Logistics: • If you plan multiple train rides between the villages, get the Cinque Terre Train Card. • If you only need 1–2 rides, single tickets are enough.

Le Cinque Terre are beautiful to see and can also be relaxing, especially for people who live in the city and relish some fresh air by the sea or enjoy panoramic walks. Nevertheless, the villages are thronged with tourists virtually all year round, making them crowded and extremely commercial. The locals have exploited the situation by inflating prices and included ridiculous tarrifs where not necessary. This is especially true for the famous Via del Amore between Rio Maggiore and Manarola: the price for the walk is €10 - understandable for the extensive works done on the path, BUT this price only applies IF you have already obtained the Cinque Terre pass at a minimum added value of €7.50. Another letdown is with the famously colourful buildings, so vibrant and lively in pictures, but actually mostly ill-kept and in need of maintenance. Do visit these places, as they are all equally charming and picturesque, but their tag is on the expensive and touristy side.

We took the train from La Spezia to visit all 5 the little villages. Every village has its own charm. Absolutely stunning views, great vibe, and awesome cultural experience.

A wonderful place for hiking, though it’s pretty challenging in places; especially if you show up in the middle of a heatwave, as we did. Lovely villages (especially Vernazza and Monterosso) and terrific coastal views to enjoy. We found that being based at nearby La Spezia was cheaper, convenient, and a little more ‘authentic’…..Levanto would probably work, too.

Great way to see/visit Cinque Terre. Take a small boat tour out of La Spezia, easiest to book online. Our 7 hour day trip included 2 swimming stops, 1-1/2 hour stop for lunch in one of the villages, knowledgeable tour captain, and snacks and drinks on our boat. We went in late May and paid 135 euros/person.

I spent two days here, which wasn't enough time, but it's all I had. We managed two hikes and really enjoyed it. Take lots of water with you and some electrolytes if you can! We did manage to see all 5 towns and La Spezia too. Lots of good food and gelato!

Wonderful weel kept Castle. From renovations. to 1800 renovations. Very interesting to see all the indise rooms, kitchen, cold storage, torture room. Eat downtown some very good restaurants.

Impressive medieval castle on a hilltop over a village. It's BIG and just after the holiday season it was almost deserted. We spent an hour or two roaming the ramparts, the many rooms (including a fascinating exhibition of 29th century socialist paintings) - and yes, the torture dungeon as well. We were pleasantly surprised to be left to roam the place on our own accord. The view of the valley from the ramparts is stunning.

Very interesting place with great views on the surroundings of Bardi. They definitely put a lot of interesting things to see inside those historic walls. When we were there a very interesting art exposition took place at the castle, worth to check out the rich programme throughout the year.

Historic and spectacular. Tutti devono andare. Fantastic views, intricate interiors, a treasure of exploration and history in it's passages, chambers, architecture atop a commanding promontory of jasper

We were told that the castle wasn't much to look at. Being our first castle, it was fantastic. The view is incredible. There is a torture chamber. You can almost feel the people being tortured. Great experience. I can't imagine what castles the person who told us this was just ok has visited. This one was well worth the trip.

Wonderful castle with a gorgeous view and multiple things to visit : local craftmanshi museum, hunting museum, princes house, dungeon… and everything is included in the entrance fee. The restauration of the castle is really good (you can visit almost everything) and well suited for little middle aged fans.

Really cool and big castle. I truly recommend you to visit it, have a dinner in the restaurant “Le Due Spade”, buy some meat near the castle in the small meat-shop in the street, which leads you to the castle. And as well i recommend you to meet the sunset. It’s amazing!
