Cheile Turzii, a stunning natural reserve in Cluj County, is a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike. This breathtaking gorge features well-marked trails that meander through lush landscapes, crossing charming streams and sturdy bridges. With its rich history dating back to the Roman Empire—evidenced by various artifacts—the area was designated as a Natural Reserve in 1938 and later recognized as a UNESCO natural monument.
Cheile Turzii Gorge is absolutely breathtaking! The hike alongside the river with the towering cliffs on either side was an unforgettable experience. I saw diverse bird species and the views were simply stunning. The trail was easy to follow, and the natural scenery was out of this world. Definitely a 5-star destination!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An unforgettable experience at Cheile Turzii! The landscapes are breathtaking and the trails offer both adventure and peaceful moments in nature. We enjoyed tasty traditional food, especially the grilled mici, and relaxed on comfy chairs under umbrellas with stunning views around us. Friendly atmosphere and good services — I highly recommend visiting this place!

Great place to visit. Some parking place are cheaper than others. We found for 15 ley. The valley is amaizing. Many different lanes, but be carefull, not every lane are perfectly singed. There are even mosstakes, becouse they dont care this to much. Its free, so no care.

Beautiful hiking trail. I recommend using hiking gear if you plan going further and explore. You have plenty of spots where you can just sit and admire natura, besides other activities such as supervised rock climbing and cave finding(only small caves)
Muresanu D — Google review
Went on a Monday, out of season, found the parking free. The place is amazing, I never imagined one day I will see something so beautiful. Worth the trip there. The entire gorge has spectacular views all along the path.

Salina Turda

Mentioned on

Spas & Wellness
Mine
Salina Turda is a fascinating salt mine located in the Durgau-Valea Sarata area of Turda, Romania. Dating back to medieval times, it has been repurposed into an underground theme park with a mix of history and entertainment. Visitors can enter through an old entrance and walk along a long corridor leading to the main part of the mine.
Turda Salt Mine is absolutely amazing. The sheer size of the underground space is incredibly impressive. The scenery is truly unique — at least it was for me. Simply breathtaking. I do agree with other reviews that more information or explanations would enhance the experience, but overall, it's just an astonishing place.
T. M — Google review
Not as impressive as some other mines i've seen but the setup inside is quite unique and still worth a visit and a good short trip from Cluj. The lighting and the lake were unique aspects of this mine. I spent a total of 1.5 hrs in the mine at a relaxed pace it's enough to see everything. Easy directions from Cluj: Take the Fany bus from Pod Traian (search it in Maps). Buses depart thrice an hour and cost 14 lei. Upon reaching Turda you can walk 20 minutes to the old entrance (search Salina Turda old entrance on maps). Once you get into the mine from the old entrance note that there is a 8 minute walk through a long passageway to get to the central part of the mine. When returning from Turda to Cluj you can catch the Fany bus back at "Fany bus (Turda Centru)" in Google Maps. It's at the northern edge of Piata Republica.
Kevin A — Google review
This was my first mine experience, hence for me it was awesome and a must see experience in Romania! I recommend going on off season as it can get very crowded on summer. There is only one lift, then you can imagine the waiting time if you don’t want or can’t get the stairs.
Lilian R — Google review
Amazing place! We payed around 13€ and it was definitely worth it. A lot of places to sit and enjoy. There is a big line for the elevator up but the stairs aren’t that bad at all. The only problem is to get back to Turda without car, but there is a bus few times a day.
Lea T — Google review
Soooooo coooooool. I was skeptical at first but it really is a unique experience worth going to. If you’re not able to use stairs, be prepared to wait in longer lines for the elevators but I didn’t experience any wait for any stairs. The placards provided tons of great history but if you’re not into that, the pure awe of the open air subterranean mine is sure to intrigue your sensibilities nonetheless. There are plenty of activities for the little ones and I enjoyed the rowboats best. Free parking on the road before the entrance if you don’t mind walking about five minutes. Highly recommend visiting and then going into Turda for some food and shopping 🤗
Ben S — Google review
Definitely one of the most unusual attractions I’ve been to in Europe, Salina Turda is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Cluj area. The site is an easy walk from Turda town centre, although it was raining when we visited so we took a cheap taxi (I believe there is a shuttle bus too). You have to walk down quite a lengthy walkway to get to the main chamber of the salt mine - bring some warm clothing with you because it’s quite chilly once you’re in there. The sheer scale and magnitude of the main chamber are quite overpowering and provide an atmosphere which is rather eerie and daunting. There are lifts down to the bottom, but stairs are also an option. Boats can be rented on the lake, for an additional cost.
William I — Google review
A unique and impressive underground attraction. Clean, therapeutic air, beautiful salt formations, a lot of stairs and fun activities like a Ferris wheel and boat rides. A must-see in Romania!
Burghelea O — Google review
Impressively large mine and well maintained for tourists. The photos and videos speak for themselves and this is worth a visit. We exited at the 'wrong' exit, at the end of the 750 meter tunnel and ended up on the other side of the village, which was a long walk back.

Aiud Citadel

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Unfortunately, when we visited, it was closed for renovations, but you could see it's beautiful from the outside, and from photos taken in it on the internet, it would be worth visiting when it's open again. It was built during medieval times (14th century), and has many buildings. It is the main tourist attraction of the town of Aiud 👌🏽
Alex D — Google review
Quite scenic walled fort in the center of the town. Some of the buildings inside have been renovated and repurposed though. Unfortunately not too taken care of at the moment, and could be renovated - good to visit and see the imposing walls as a stop if driving through the area. No tickefs needed you can just walk in as it is living part of town.
Angelo M — Google review
The building is nice and that's it. This is the town's landmark, and it's got no touristic value. No information, no schedule for visiting, nothing.
Andrei M — Google review
The citadel is a reformat church! It is in a great shape refurbished by EU founds. Unfortunately, you can not visit it the popes house in the rest of the rooms, the central part is the main church. It is impressive from outside. Enjoy!
Felix I — Google review
Drove here to see it, and it is closed. Great disappointment.
Nina M — Google review
The building looks nice but other then that nothing. We could get inside no info about how we could get inside or when.

Centrally located in the beautiful town of aiud, the citadel looks impressive on the outside but it was closed on Saturday
Alina T — Google review
Aiud Citadel (Cetatea Aiudului in Romanian) is located in the center of Aiud, and was built during medieval times (14th century), comprising many buildings. It is the main tourist attraction of Aiud. The citadel is fairly small, with a perimeter of 350 metres, and it is in the form of an irregular pentagon. The earliest documented evidence of the citadel extant today dates from 7 November 1293, a privilege issued by King Ladislaus IV - King of Hungary (1272–1290), but local tradition holds that the first stone watch tower was finished during the Mongol invasion of Europe in 1241. Other important events for the citadel: the serfs uprisings from 1437; the conquest of Michael the Brave; the Habsburg attack in 1704 and 1717; the Christian uprising - Religious war in 1758 - 1761; the peasant movement from 1784 and the Revolutionary wave of 1848 - 1849. Coronation Cathedral

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Reunification Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Coronation in Alba Iulia, is a stately Romanian Orthodox cathedral with a rich historical significance. Built in 1922 with support from the Royal House of Romania, it was the site of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie's coronation. The cathedral boasts pleasant Romanian architecture and features an inner courtyard and a separate bell tower. It is well-maintained and blends seamlessly within the citadel and neighboring buildings.
Magnificent exterior and beautiful grounds, especially on a sunny evening as a priest walks round beating a plank of wood with a stick. The bell tower over the gate is particularly impressive. During the evening prayer service there is a bit of a PA system clash with the Catholic Church next door.
Byron F — Google review
Full of history, beautiful place, lots to do and places to eat.
Susan D — Google review
This is an Orthodox cathedral that was initially built in 1922 and was the place where the coronation procession of King Ferdinand I and Queen Marie took place. It has a pleasant Romanian architecture and it can be visited throughout the year, outside of mass house. There's an inner courtyard and a separate bell tower. There's no visitation fee and you can take photos inside as well.
Liviu-Cristian M — Google review
Excellent example of Romanian architecture that blends really well within the citadel and with the neighboring buildings It's really well maintained like the whole citadel Of crucial importance to the Romanian nation it's still a vibrant place where people from across the country gather at important holidays to celebrate

The Cathedral of the Coronation in Alba Iulia, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, was built with the support of the Royal House of Romania, according to the plans of the architect Victor Ştefănescu, which was finalized in September 1922, in memory of the first Romanian envoys and patron of the event King Ferdinand. in the courtyard of this church took place on October 15, 1922 the crowning ceremony of King Ferdinand and the Queen Maria as sovereigns of Great Romania
Alex I — Google review
Orthodox cathedral in the historical centre of Alba Julia offers a very interesting wire onto a well kept garden and architecture, where the outside arched walls, a bit Roman Villa alike, keep at its center safe the cathedral building. The entrance itself is a masterpiece.

"Saint Michael" Cathedral

Mentioned on
1 list
Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
The St Michael's Church is a magnificent Romanesque cathedral that was built in the 13th century. It boasts impressive frescoes, royal tombs and a remarkable organ. This iconic church is one of the largest and oldest in Transylvania, and it leaves a lasting impression on visitors who marvel at its beauty both inside and out. While entry to the church is free, there is a small charge to climb the tower for those interested.
A gorgeous cathedral with Sunday mass and special artifacts and information on the climb up to the bells in the steeple. It was a small charge, and worth every step. Get tickets inside the gift shop to the left is the entrance. The view from atop is obstructed by netting, but it’s the history and relics - even the replicas - and *English-language explainers* that made this really worth our time!
EarthVagabonds D — Google review
Wonderful cathedral, beautifully restored. Yet the museology and ecclesiology put me off as a priest and theologian. When I was leaving after my visit I noticed a poster saying that an audio guide was available and that the flyer with information about the audio guide was available at the bookshop inside. What's so secret about the audio guide? Most places in Romania today have QR codes with information readily available on the object being visualised. A good audio guide can be a tool of evangelisation in the symbolic "heart" of a country like Romania. Many areas were unnecessarily cordoned off during visiting times. Given the depth and architectural importance of the presbitary (1/3 of the cathedral), not allowing visitors into the space around and behind the altar (outside mass times) is a pity... it is reminiscent of an Byzantine ecclesiology and conception of the sacred space. In 2025 can we still hold on to the idea that lay persons are too sinful to get close to the "mysterion" space? Finally the place felt like a museum not a church. Confession stools have huge "do not touch" signs on them (how ironic, given the current state of the sacrament of Reconciliation! A flower on the cushion and a QR code with info on where confession is available maybe?). No sign of popular devotion (in a country which is so strong on popular piety this is jarring.... of course I'm happy there is no kitsch, but having no traces of a living faith feels aseptic - maybe a copy of the Bible open on the day's Gospel reading, somewhere?). No sign of the social works of the Church in Transylvania. Just a minimal logo at the lecten that we're in a Jubilee Year (how about promoting prayer and pilgrimage and social justice for the young people with some large, elegant boards...?)
René M — Google review
Fasinating Catherdral well worth a visit full of historic significance for Romania. There is also an option to visit the tower. Also outside there is a chance to observe the changing of the guards
Andy B — Google review
The Cathedral of St. Michael in the Alba Carolina Fortress is the most valuable monument of Romanesque architecture in Transylvania. The current cathedral was built between 1246-1291 (the same time as Notre-Dame de Paris) on the ruins of an old cathedral built in the early eleventh century by King Stephen I of Hungary, and partly destroyed by the Tartar invasion in 1242. The cathedral, originally built in the late Romanesque style, it was subsequently extended with elements Gothic, Renascentist and Baroque. It would be the oldest and longest (93 m) cathedral in the country. Basilica consists of three naves, a transept in the east and three towers in the west.On both sides of the apse of the main altar are two smaller altars, apses side, starting from the transept. The southern part of the transept (now in renovation) housed sarcophagi stone of Iancu (John) Hunyadi (prince of Transylvania, rescued Belgrade in 1456) and other family members, while in the north of the transept, in the chapel of St. Anne, are the sarcophagi of John (II) Zápolya Sigismund (1540-1571), first prince of Transylvania and king of Hungary) and Poland Isabella (Isabella Jagiello, 1519-1559). The cathedral was built in the late Romanesque - early Gothic style using stone blocks taken from the ancient Roman castrum. In the Renaissance time, the cathedral was extended on the eastern side with Lászai Chapel (containing the altar of "Christian Souls") in 1512 and Varday chapel in 1524. The Cathedral still retains traces of the bombing of 1849, when the city was besieged by Hungarian revolutionaries. In 1877 it was equipped with an organ in Gothic style, with 2209 tubes. From the beginning (eleventh century) the building served as the cathedral for the Diocese of Transylvania, but in 1565, after entering of the Reformation in Transylvania, was taken over by Protestant (Calvinists and Unitarians) which removed paintings, altars, organ and other parts. He returned to Catholic worship in 1716. For 900 years, it was suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Kalocsa, and from 1930 to 1991 of the Bucharest. Holy See in 1932, changing its name in the Diocese of Alba Iulia, and in 1991 raised it to an independent archbishopric.
Lucian I — Google review
One of the most iconic churches of Transylvania, one of the oldest and one of the biggest (and certainly the longest) church in Transylvania, the St Michaels Church is stunning in every way and impresses both on the outside and the inside. The entrance is free, only if you want to go up to the tower there a small charge. You can't see anything from up on top but it's still worth taking a look and exploring the reading materials Inside the church there are graves of some of the most illustrious representatives of Transylvania like Iancu de Hunedoara, the 15th century prince who is revered by Romanians, Hungarians and Serbs as a national figure
Klaus W — Google review
Impressive romanic monument with small gothic influences. Originally built in 1004-1009, then rebuilt in the 13th century, it had it's exterior renovated in recent years and is now in an excellent condition. Be sure to bring a jacket as it's always cold inside, but also be sure to catch some of the evening organ concerts. They are worth it.
Horatiu P — Google review
1000 years of history , well kept gothic architecture, John Huniady , his son Laszlo, queen Izabela Jaggielo and her son the future king John Sigismun , Gabriel Bathory and a lot of ilustrious personalities are buried in this cathedral starting with the 1300's. It is located in the center of the citadel , no entrance fee , the tower might be visited for 10 lei (2 euro) . Might need a guide or to check online facts about the long history of this place .History lovers will enjoy it . Probabli the visit time is around 1 hour , visited 22 sept 2021

The Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. Michael is located inside Alba Iulia and is the most valuable monument of Romanesque and Gothic architecture in Transylvania. The cathedral has two records: it is the oldest and the longest (93 m in ax) cathedral in Romania. In the southern lateral ship is the sarcophagus of Iancu de Hunedoara, governor of Hungary, his son, Ladislau de Hunedoara, and in the northern ship is the sarcophagus of Queen Izabella and that of Ioan Sigismund, the first prince of Transylvania and the king ) of Hungary

Beautiful place and well designed / renovated to be for everyone. You can take a stroll and admire the view, you can eat, drink, sit and even bike around. Very clean and maintained, beautiful flowers everywhere. This is one of the most beautiful places we visited in this part of Romania. We were lucky and stumbled upon an reenactment event with lots of romans and dacians and even barbarians.

Beautiful and walkable citadel. The best in Romania. Not only can you see the inside, you can also walk the perimeter which has restaurants, parks all on a nicely built path. So much to see and so much walking to do! This place also has an incredible amount of history and you're able to enter the halls and churches inside. Has some old Roman ruins as well. Overall, a must visit.

✅ The Alba Carolina Citadel is a stunning star-shaped fortress located in Alba Iulia, Romania, and it’s one of the most impressive Vauban-style fortifications in Eastern Europe 🌟. Built between 1715 and 1738 during the Habsburg rule, it was designed by Italian architect Giovanni Morando Visconti and later completed by other engineers. 🏰 Highlights of the Citadel - Seven Bastions: Each named after saints or historical figures, forming the iconic star shape. The citadel features seven gates, aligned along an east-west axis known as the Tourist Route of the Citadel. Inside, you’ll find the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. Michael, the Coronation Cathedral, museums, gardens, and monuments like the equestrian statue of Michael the Brave. 🎟️Free Access: Open day and night for walks, with museums and cafes operating on their own schedules. I highly recommend it to visit once in your life! 🔝 Visited September 2025

This church is definitely worth the time. It was impressive in its beauty, elegance and history. We walked around Friday evening and visited the interior early Saturday, guided by a most knowledgeable and helpful young man, a volunteer guide who provided excellent information without overwhelming us. I wish I knew his name to commend him for his work and gentle manners.

Impressive collection of all sort of things from 17 century onwards, and beautiful ottoman carpets. Dress warmly because can be quite cold inside during the spring.

Beautiful Church that can be seen from far away. Definitely the main point of attraction in Medias. It is one of the eldest churches like this in Romania and full of history. The location shows a bit off on Google maps, because it is not actually there. It should be where the small plazza shows. Hope this will be changed soon on maps.

Awesome place to visit during the winter season. The main ski slope is medium, the upper part is easy. There is a separate ski slope for kids. The season last between December and April. The view from the top is excellent, showing panorama of the Parang Mountains.

Great location with perfect skiing slopes at a reasonable price. Highly recommended for the intermediate skier level.
Robert B — Google review
My experience here is a very pleasant one. There are places where to park your car, really close to the resort. The prices for renting snowboards and skiis are really affordable. Ranging from 50 lei for boots and boards. What's a bit on the more expensive side is if you want to get a day pass or something on the sort. Me and a few others just got one ride up for 60lei. Once you have gone with up with the gondola/ski lift, things get really nice fast. There are bathrooms and little shops with wine and food. From there, you can go even higher by gondola or by a rope tow ski lift. There are a lot of employees at every mark making sure everything is OK, especially with kids. There are also a lot of dogs that are really adorable and add to the rustic charm of the place. Food wise, there are many options at the bottom of the resort, ranging from soups and meats to all sorts of fried things. Some of them are a bit more pricey, yet you can still enjoy a meal for 20lei. Overall, it's a really nice experience.

Had a chance to enjoy snowboarding at this resort. Despite high temperature and lack of snow it was quite a pleasant experience. They had very friendly and helpful guys at rentals. Prices are also nice. And you can enjoy a stunning view on a lake which is quite unique. They have to build some restauraunts at the resort and expand the slopes to make it better. In a bad weather you need a place to get warm and relax a bit. For the beginners the slope may be difficult as it had icy areas on it at most steep parts.

Our experience here was very positive, we had a great time, on a ski slope with perhaps the most beautiful view in Romania, the lifts are very new, there is also free parking if you get there in time. The Voineasa half of the road is very good, while the Petrosani half is in poor condition and requires adequate attention. The infrastructure of the skiresort is not the most developed, there is mud in many places in the parking lot. All in all, I recommend it with a calm heart.
Omen N — Google review
Great place for both skiing and snowboarding! It's not so crowded and the ski track is wider than most of the other ski resorts. I highly recommend going here at least once when there's enough snow throughout all the ski resorts, in order to benefit from the full experience. If the snow quantity and quality is lacking overall, you'll still get a nice experience here, especially in the first hours after the opening.

“Saint Mary” Evangelical Cathedral

Mentioned on
19 lists
Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
The “Saint Mary” Evangelical Cathedral is a stunning 14th-century Gothic-style church located in the Upper Town of Sibiu. It features a towering steeple that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its surroundings from the bell tower. Inside, visitors can admire intricate stained glass windows, a beautiful altar, and one of Romania's largest historic pipe organs. Climbing to the top provides an exhilarating experience with sweeping vistas of Sibiu's cityscape.
Wow, just wow! This cathedral is seriously impressive. From the moment you see it, you can tell it’s something special. The architecture is stunning, and the history just oozes from the walls. We spent ages just wandering around, taking it all in. The real highlight for us was climbing up to the roof and clock tower. The views of Sibiu from up there are absolutely incredible – a perfect photo opportunity! You can see the whole city spread out beneath you. Definitely worth the climb (though maybe not for those scared of heights!). Inside, the cathedral is just as beautiful, with so many interesting details. Make sure you take your time to look at everything. Honestly, if you’re visiting Sibiu, you HAVE to visit this cathedral. It’s an experience you won’t forget. Highly recommended!

Saint Mary Evangelical Cathedral in Sibiu dominates the city skyline with its tall spire and Gothic architecture. From the square, you can admire its striking stonework and details up close. It’s a quiet spot to pause while exploring the city center and offers great angles for photos, especially in the morning light. The cathedral is a key landmark and a must-see for anyone walking through Sibiu.
Noel M — Google review
A really beautiful cathedral that has lots of information about previous mayors of Sibui. A really nice place to visit price of a ticket is also really nice especially for students. You also get a stunning view out of the tower which is really some stairs up. But the view is worth it.
Demonic M — Google review
Another hallmark of Sibiu, one of the oldest cult buildings in the city, visiting this place is a must - especially if there are concerts (or rehearsals) inside which will make it come alive. If you're here in December, come visit it to see the Christmas Tree and the festivities. Also, you should climb the tower as the view from up top is great!
Ana-Maria A — Google review
Tickets cost 15 lei (3 euro) for the church and 25 lei (5 euro) for the church + the tower. I got a ticket for both the church and the tower and it was well worth it. Along with this, shortly after I entered there was a tour in Romanian, which I listened to. The tour was not a walk through the church, but was rather you sitting and listening to the guide give you information on the history of the place. The church was initially Catholic until the Protestant revolution when the parishioners were converted to Lutheranism. The organ inside is one of the largest in southeast Europe, and was the first organ in Romania! In fact, there are two organs inside the church, both being very beautiful. Along with this, there are many tombstones and carvings of the leaders of Sibiu and other important personalities local to the area. Both Catholic and Lutheran impressions have been well kept and preserved, so you can note the transition of faith over time, seeing Art styles from both creeds in one building. The bell tower, however, is the real treat. There are a lot of stairs, so be mindful that it is a brief climb to the top. On your way up, you also pass the gigantic bell! Once you reach the spire, the views are spectacular. Well worth the visit, both to the church and the tower.
John W — Google review
A beautiful church to visit, with very fair entry prices and the chance to climb the tower for great views. I was lucky to attend a free evening concert here, which made the visit even more special. The Wi-Fi is surprisingly fast, and the QR codes around the church give excellent explanations of the stone art. Staff were very welcoming and spoke both English and German. Highly recommended!
DM G — Google review
The church is interesting, the memorials with inscriptions are interesting- worth scanning some of the QR codes to see the stories. The tower is very interesting - an exposed climb up past the clock mechanism (sadly in a shed like structure and not on view) and the impressive bells, before being able to peer across the rooftops from the four mini turrets around the steeple. Well worth the admission charge.
Byron F — Google review
Wonderful cathedral set in the quiet piața Huet. Architecturally stunning with gothic interiors and a colourful roof best seen from the bell tower. Cost is 10 Lei to tour the cathedral interior, 10 Lei to climb the bell tower or 15 Lei for a combined ticket.

Cute spot, easy to find. Great for meeting friends or for viewing the small square or the lower part of Sibiu.

One of the most beautiful and iconic landmarks in Sibiu! The Bridge of Lies is full of charm and history. It’s a perfect spot for photos, and I love how it connects the old town’s storybook streets. The view from the bridge is amazing, and it’s surrounded by great cafes and shops. If you visit Sibiu, you must see the Bridge of Lies!

The Bridge of Lies in Sibiu may be small, but it’s packed with stories. Locals say it creaks when someone lies while standing on it—spooky and fun to test out. Built in 1859 as Romania’s first cast-iron bridge, it connects Little Square to Huet Square and offers a great view of the old town. It’s one of the most photographed spots in the city, with a great view of the lower town below. A quick stop with character while wandering Sibiu’s historic center.

The Bridge of Lies (Podul Minciunilor) in Sibiu is a must-see! This historic cast-iron bridge, dating back to 1859, is not only beautiful with its Neo-Gothic details and city coat of arms, but it’s also surrounded by fascinating legends. Locals say the bridge creaks if someone tells a lie while standing on it—such a fun story to share with visitors! The location is perfect, connecting Piața Mică (Small Square) to Huet Square, and offering wonderful views of the old town. The surrounding area is full of charming architecture, cozy cafés, and cobblestone streets—great for photos and walking tours. Whether you’re here for history, legends, or just to take in Sibiu’s medieval charm, the Bridge of Lies is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Transylvania! 📍 Easy to find in Sibiu’s historic center 📷 Great photo spot, especially in the evening

The Council's Tower

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Council Tower, dating back to the 13th century, stands as a symbol of Sibiu between Grand and Lesser Squares. Originally a gateway in the city's fortifications, it now offers panoramic views of the town for a small fee. The tower is located near Piata Mare and Piata Mica, where historic guild buildings once housed craftsmen. Visitors can explore this area and then climb the tower's seven stories to enjoy breathtaking city vistas.
Was here in November, the minute they opened. The entrance is not from the square side by from the side that faces bridge of lies, it’s a small wooden door. You pay, take steep spiral staircase up the tower, passing a couple of floors of spaces with occasional exhibits. When you reach the top - the view of Sibiu is beautiful! Very cheap (I believe it was about $2), but cash only!

The Council Tower is a must-visit in Sibiu! Located right in the heart of the Old Town, it's easy to find and the perfect starting point for exploring. The tower is perfectly situated between the two main squares, Piața Mare (Great Square) and Piața Mică (Small Square). Its ground-floor passage connects the two, making it easy to access.
Gilad Y — Google review
Very beautiful birds’ eyes view of Sibiu. Best time to go is before the sunset on a sunny day. My pictures are not the best because of the cloudy conditions.
Jenny Z — Google review
A lovely tower that perfectly fits the vibe of the square. The nearby streets add even more charm – those kinds of cozy alleys where you might stumble upon something interesting or at least a great café. The tower dates back to the 13th century and originally served as a defensive lookout and fire watch. Today, it's a nice spot for a short climb with beautiful views over the old town. Or you can simply enjoy it from below, as it calmly completes the picturesque feel of the whole area. :) (instagram --> michaelnae)

Unexpectedly beautiful. I didn't expect to like it so much, the view is great and I loved how good the inside looked too.

For a small fee you can view a part of the beautiful city-with its gorgeous architecture. It is a little narrow climbing up the tower, so keep that in mind. I was there at the end of November and there was already a Christmas Market, but the tower isn't so crowded, the waiting time isn't more than 10 minutes (if any)

The ASTRA National Museum Complex is a cultural gem in Sibiu, Romania, featuring four museums that delve into ethnology and history. One of its highlights is the ASTRA Open Air Museum, nestled in a picturesque forest beside a tranquil lake. Covering 250 acres, it showcases over 300 buildings representing diverse architectural styles from villages across Romania.
It is a wonderful place to be. Walking round a lake through the forest while are able to visit old water, wind mills, hunting lodges, winery, buildings and tools, but also housing as they used to be. Can get into the windmill and see how it worked. Can visit the houses and see how people used to live. You can enter with your pet, as it is a pet friendly museum. You can spend easily few hours there visiting the museum as it is placed on a vast land, count at least 4-5 hours to visit the whole site. I recommend it for a piece of history but also for a relaxing walk in different zones, forest, along the lake, plane fields, along a spring. Prices are reasonable.

Amazing and super interesting place, totally worth visiting. It's a huge park, perfectly maintained. Parking is free but in busy days it would be difficult to find a spot. In the park, you will find plenty of shadow in hot summer days. There are a lot of rest areas, and wonderful kids playing area.

Amazing— The word “ASTRA” is significant in Romania because it refers to a historic cultural association and some major heritage institutions central to Romanian national identity and Transylvanian history. Cultural Association and National Awakening ASTRA (Asociația Transilvană pentru Literatura Română și Cultura Poporului Român) was founded in 1861 in Sibiu, Transylvania, as a society dedicated to promoting Romanian literature, education, and culture during the Austro-Hungarian rule. ASTRA played a vital role in the Romanian national awakening by supporting schools, libraries, publications, and scholarly gatherings focused on Romanian heritage. Its efforts were instrumental in boosting Romanian consciousness, particularly among Transylvanian Romanians who faced assimilation pressures.

I absolutely loved this place and enjoyed being there. I was on an organized tour, so with the free time given, I was only able to explore half of it so I explored the older section. There is a magnificent delta and you see different architecture representing different places in Romania. I was there about an hour. Definitely not enough time. There was enough english to understand what you were looking at. There was lots of modern wooden art everywhere and a huge gift shop. I wish I had the time to just sit and enjoy the fall colors and wild life playing on the lake.

This is a Must to do place if you are travelling in Sibiu region. The museum is so rich in its history and depicts so nicely the traditional life of Romanian people in the past. During our visit there was even a national Olympiad of Romanian culture happening in this place, which allowed us to meet people from all around the region of Romania. One thing which united all of them were there beautiful dresses, beautiful smiles and warm hearts.

The Fortified Church of Biertan

Lutheran church
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Transylvania, the Fortified Church of Biertan is a stunning example of late Gothic architecture dating back to 1522. This UNESCO World Heritage site boasts impressive defensive walls and towers that once made it unconquerable. Inside, visitors can admire Renaissance art and an ornate sacristy lock with 15 bolts that can be simultaneously activated. The church also has a unique Prison Tower where couples seeking divorce were held for two weeks in an attempt to reconcile.
The fortified church is located in a traditional Transylvanian village, with an amazing view over the surrounding hills. The visit starts with a climb through the covered staircase. Once you reach the top of the stairs you can walk around the fortifications and the towers and also you can visit the church. Inside we found a lovely lady, which gave a very good overview of the history of this place and also she shared some interesting stories about it.
Viorel I — Google review
The church is on a hill with walls and tower. From the outside, it looks very modest. But from the inside you could see a beautiful altar, orgel and paintings. The ticket can be bought at the small bookshop at the entrance. Then, you climb the roofed stairs up to the church. The little infamous house for couples is located at the back of the church. The story goes, in the past couples before getting a divorce, would be "locked up" there, where they should spend time together in the small room. At some point, many of the couples were said to stay together.
Deepblue S — Google review
Amazing place. The walls around the church, the courtyard and the church is fascinating. Not to mentions the craftsmanship of the lock on one of the doors. The place is still waiting for a big renovation, but it's still well worth a visit.

Worth the trip! I visited the Biertan fortified church and was lucky enough to have the place almost to myself This 15th-century Transylvanian gem is perched on a hill, surrounded by not one, not two, but three defensive walls (clearly, they took "do not disturb" very seriously back then) Fun fact: they even had a "marital prison" to help couples reconcile 😂 Entrance Fee: 20 lei (updated 08.05.2025)

Nestled in a picturesque setting, Castelul de Lut Valea Zânelor, also known as the Clay Castle, is an enchanting eco-friendly structure made from clay and sand. Its fairytale-like design resembles something out of a storybook or a fantasy film. The complex exudes a whimsical charm akin to that of a gnome village.
Spent two nights at the Clay Castle with my family and it truly felt like stepping into a fairytale. Here, luxury takes another form it’s not about opulence, but about atmosphere, nature, and emotion. Every corner of the castle is unique from the organic shapes of the rooms, to the wooden and clay details, and the wide courtyard where the Făgăraș Mountains rise in the background. The cleanliness was impeccable, and the food felt like it was taken straight out of a story natural, and full of flavor. The courtyard with the river flowing right next to it is simply breathtaking, adding even more charm to the whole experience. The Clay Castle is more than accommodation it’s an experience that reconnects you with authentic beauty. Two nights here with my family felt like living inside a fairytale. And honestly, those 1-star reviews have nothing to do with reality this place is pure magic. For us, even a 10 feels too small for what we lived here. ✨
Patrascu M — Google review
We wanted to come with a geoup of 4 to enjoy some overprices (46 lei) lemonades. We were told if we want to stay we have to buy a mean each (120lei per meal). We said 2 of us will want desert but the other 2 only want to enjoy an overpriced tea (28 lei). We were essentially kicked out because we are not spending enough money. Left a poor taste in everyones mouth especially that there was literally only 2 other people at that restaurant and we didnt understand how you can just turn customers away when the business is clearly not a popular place to go. Very weird vibes would not recomend. Just walk along the back of the castle and take some pictures through the bushes. You will have a better experience.

Absolutely amazing! The details are stunning, and the room feels like something straight out of a fairy tale. The food is excellent – truly high-end quality. Every component on the plate was delicious – all compliments to the chef, the dishes were outstanding! The wine recommendation was spot on, and the cocktails were great too. Highly recommend this place – a truly exceptional experience!

Forget the old reviews – this is not the same place anymore. It just reopened and feels like stumbling onto a secret billionaires’ hideout before the world finds out. For a third of what you’d pay in Italy, France, Spain or Greece, you get rooms that are 100% handmade and when not for logistical reasons, the best quality has been chosen (the bed is literally like sleeping on a yacht wrapped in clouds, we slept 14 hours). The food? Ancient recipes reborn into something so addictive we caught ourselves licking our fingers. My partner wanted to come back just to find out the new menu that changes every week. Staff are warm, the vibe is pure stillness, and Lipici – the guard dog with the most ridiculous haircut – might just steal your heart. If you want a weekend where you walk in stressed and walk out reborn, book it before the world catches on.

Disappointing – what used to be a tourist attraction now feels like a fortress. On our way to Brașov, we planned a stop here, as we had heard so many great things about the place. We were told it’s no longer open to tourists, but that there’s now a restaurant instead. So we thought, perfect – let’s have lunch. But when we arrived, we found ourselves standing outside the gate, in the blazing sun, talking to someone through an intercom. We simply asked if we could come in for lunch. Instead of a warm welcome, we were met with a cold and uninviting response: “Have you checked the menu? Scan the QR code on the gate and see if you like our menu before coming in.” No “please come in,” no “you’re welcome to have a look,” just a rather robotic voice making us justify our culinary preferences from the other side of a locked gate. It felt absurd — like trying to get into a private club, not a place that once welcomed visitors. So we left. What once was a charming stop has now turned into a closed-off, uninviting fortress.

ATTENTION RIP-OFF / TOURIST TRAP from the beginning of 2025 it is apparently a private place (restaurant and hotel) so we entered and were willing to have lunch / share a soup and order some drinks (all quite expensive for Romanian standards). However, the waiter was extremely rude and told us we had to order more. However, we had just had breakfast. When we decided to leave they escorted us to the gate as if we were criminals. Crazy, they lost money as we would have easily spent at least 100 LEI / 20€ there…

Surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery, it offers a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, ice climbing, skiing, and cycling at an altitude exceeding 2,000 meters. During winter, the lake becomes the source for crafting Eastern Europe's first-ever ice hotel. This unique destination also features chalet restaurants and serves as a scenic attraction along the Transfagarasan road.

This place is a shame. A stunning natural lake has been turned into a dirty, chaotic bazaar. Stalls, smoke, garbage, and noise everywhere. No respect for nature, no organization. Authorities are asleep while one of Romania’s most beautiful treasures is being destroyed in front of everyone.

2 parking lots but one was 60 lei and the other one 20 lei. So keep your eyes open. Otherwise cool destination with great views of the mountains. If you drive from the Bucharest side of the mountain you are able to see lots of bears who are friendly but there for free snacks. Do not offer them food though 🙂

If you can and you have time, I'd recommend you to leave your car at the bottom of the most curvy part of Transfagarasan road and hike the trail that goes to Balea lake passing through Balea cascade. It's about 10 km climb of about 875 m of positive elevation gain. The path is amazing, and the cascade an spectacle, but be aware cause you cand meet some bears during the way. The lake is the final prize and it won't dissapoint you. At the summit there are a lot of tents and stalls where they make some delicious typical cake with the shape of a roll called "Kurtos".

Sights & Landmarks
Cozia Monastery, established in 1387 and situated on the banks of Olt River, boasts beautiful frescoes and a serene ambiance. The historical location offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, providing visitors with a peaceful experience that allows for introspection and self-connection. This place exudes tranquility and calmness, making it an ideal destination for those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The ancient church and monastery were located right at the main road. It is so easy to find. It's a beautiful church, which wasn't so big. Inside, you aren't allowed to take pictures. But that should be fine and respected. All the inside walls and ceiling were covered with paintings. The atmosphere was serene and peaceful. There's a small museum at the back of the church along with a shop for religious articles. Toilet was available across the road. You should go out of the monastery complex and cross the road. It was easy to do as there was a crossing, and despite the busy traffic at the weekend (Sunday), cars would stop whenever people want to cross. The paid toilet (it's cheap) was clean, though you could smell something in the air. When you visit the monastery, go and check some local sellers selling local honey or cooking wooden utensils. Buying something from them could really support the locals. The prices were okay, not expensive. We got 500gr honey for 30 lei in May 2025.

This place is so rich in history and looks so pretty every time I visit. What took me aback was the priests singing outside, but no ceremony inside...

If you are looking for inner peace and a great place to play and learn about history, then you should definitely visit this monastery. I feel for me when I pray here, light candles, donate, I feel all my problems are going away and I’m blessed again with beautiful things. Highly recommend people to go as is very accessible from the main road.

Cozy and very quiet, a perfect place for meditation and spiritual recharge.

Pretty monastery in a beautiful area with a river and the mountains behind. The town seemed very busy with tourists but the monastery itself was very peaceful and there was a lot of parking nearby. Take time to enjoy the fascinating murals: those outside at the entrance especially, but also those inside, but be aware that photography is not allowed. For me, those murals were the highlight of my visit. There's also a small museum and everything is free to enter. Good views of the dam and the mountains from the back windows. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, but I'm not sure it's worth a long drive to see if you've been to other monasteries.

Pitty that this place is on a very crowded road to Sibiu! A historical place on a side of a big river!

Old beautiful monastery. Touristic place, near by market where you can buy local handmade products, honey etc.
Oksana V — Google review
A lovely monastery founded in 1386 and still a monastery. Consequently there is much of Romanian history documented in the wall paintings of the chapel. The surrounding gardens are immaculately maintained. Easy place to find as it is next to the main road and consequently many people will be there to pay their respects and say a prayer for loved ones. Take time out to stop and visit.

Great place, a bit crowded, love the warm water
John G — Google review
Beautiful place for rest, termal waters. Your have to try it in the winter and stay in the wather outside. You can eat and drink You have also music inside. There was a DJ, but the sound was to loud, like in the disco. Not sure if it's this way all the time. The location is not so modern, but you can enjoy the view all year long, and also the kids can play in the water.
Cosmin D — Google review
I was for the first time to the aqua park. And i will never go there. I'm not recomand thhis location.Appocaliptic crowd in the water slides area. Only for families with kids if you need to exercise your children...Unclean water in all basins, thermal or not. Better experience at the Oltul Hotel pool although not enough umbrellas, you need to move all around to find some shadow.I have never ever been this disappointed of a place in my life. We paid 30 Ron each for 2 extremely crowded (this was on a Monday) children pools that are supposed to have hydromassage that doesn't even work. The place has decent anti-covid measures, but once you're inside the place is dirty and the water is disgusting to say the least. I should also mention that the water slides are mostly closed and if they work they are absolutely full of people. Probably the worst money I've ever spent.Visited this complex today and was totally disgusted in the poor hygiene this includes the water quality which is absolutely full of bacteria and it amazes me how people can go To this place, people need telling that this is an absolute cesspit only interested in taking the money. An awful experience. We tried to go there on a national holiday, and the place was just packed, to the point there was no place to walk, without hitting or rubbing someone. Don't even think about private lockers, or lounge chairs. When we purchased the tickets, we were indeed told that is was busy, but I could have not imagined the apocalyptic level of "busy" . There was no place to put your things, there was no place to walk and no place left in the water. As sweat waves surged on my forehead (from the lack of good ventilation), I quickly decided to leave, as it was unacceptable for us. Even though I just stayed there for only 5 minutes, the personnel was very rude and initially refused to give me a refund. After some discussions, they finally agreed to a partial refund. I n other words, it is the best example for a former communist hotel that now pretends to be on the capitalist side, where all that matters is to sell as many tickets and get as much income as possible for minimum in exchange. I've been there once before, in the winter (normal day) and it was acceptable at that time, but surely this was not the case anymore. For 30/35 lei you get dirty water, dirty floors, uncleaned pools, low quality sunbeds, broken sun umbrellas..i don't understand how people can go there. The only plus: the pools are surveyed by lifeguards. We have just gotten here and I rushed to the phone to say that everything here is dissapointing! Everything is old and rusty, the water is greenish and it doesn't feel as if they keep in mind any Covid restrictions.A small and very crowded place, the main pools were closed, filthy water. Total rip-off, don't even come close to it!I went to the indoor pool with slides and it was a terrible experience. The water wasn't clean at all, it felt like it hadn't been changed in days and had a strong smell of chlorine that stuck in your nose. The slides were in bad shape: chipped edges, chipped paint and quite slippery, making every descent more of a survival theory than fun. The crowding was unbearable – you didn't even have room to move and the waiting time for each slide was interminable. The staff seemed totally unconcerned, rather walking around without intervening in any situation. And the changing rooms... a nightmare. There were not enough seats, the floor was wet and dirty, and some booths were broken. Bottom line, it's clearly not worth the time or money.Horrible! 10 lei parking for what? Isn't it enough that I pay the ticket and it doesn't include anything for you? Besides the fact that you can't even find a place to leave your car safely without getting hit!Dirty water, it wasn't hot at all and very expensive prices, plus if you enter and can't find a parking space and get out, they take your money all day, I absolutely do not recommend!!!
Gannicus 9 — Google review
The children had fun here but it requires a bit of cleanliness. The water is a bit Muriel and smelly, but if it’s thermal water then that is to be expected. They alternated the inside and outside rides every 30 minutes rather than having them both open all the time. On the day we visited they had the foam party which finished at 5pm. Both our children enjoyed the experience and would be happy to go back.
Ste A — Google review
Good place for some family fun and with all facilities needed.
Juan S — Google review
Fine place with waters of a nondisputable quality and positive effect. Too bad that people take this treatment area as a neighbourhood pool or as the seaside in full season. It's just not nice to try to enjoy your time as a person who is not quite OK... with children jumping in the water accompanied by the parents, with people who did not discover or who don.t use a head cap, who blow their noses in the water and so on.. Take from home bathing robes and towels, you won't get any at the premises. It.s not Bad Blumau in Căciulata even if it could be. Most people are super nice and the prices are good.
Ileana R — Google review
I liked the indoor pools because you can stay all day long without getting a sun burn. The water was dirty, full of hair. I didn't enjoy the experience all in all.
Maria S — Google review
Very cheap, but for that price you get something old, rusty and not super clean. The pools were not all in use; the slides were very well surveyed by lifeguards but only opened in a tournament of timeslots. We went on a weekday in the afternoon in august and it was pretty full but not crazy full. Very limited wifi outside. Some of the pools with natural source water are too smelly and very hot. The two kids, 6 +7 y old, really loved the place though.

The Făgăraș Mountains, also known as the Transylvanian Alps, are a dramatic mountain range in Romania. With its highest peak, Moldoveanu Peak, reaching 2544m and a 70km long ridge, it is the largest massif in the country. The landscape features pyramid-shaped peaks along the main ridge and alpine valleys with glacial lakes surrounded by limestone and crystalline schists.
Beautiful part of Carpates. Sharp ridges of the main ridges with deep valleys and breathtaking views. Hard trails with many technical obstacles.
Borislav A — Google review
Fagaras is a range of mountains that are located in the center of Romania, named after the nearby city of Fagaras. They are very popular among the locals as the mountain range is vast, with many mountain peaks, and there are many trekking routes. Fagaras holds the highest peak in Romania, Varful Moldoveanu, at 2,544m, and it also includes 7 more peaks above 2,500m. The most famous road in Romania, Transfagarasan road, runs across the range and it is one of the most scenic routes by car in the country. The road is closed during the winter due to the heavy snowfall.
Andreas K — Google review
If you are in Romania you have to do only three things: Eat Mici, drive the transfagarasan road and go to these mountains, it is amazing. Be sure that you are prepared because the trails are not easy and the weather can change rapidly. If you plan to sleep at a tent I recommend doing that at lacul avrig. Watch for the bears.

Must to be visited, this would be a mandatory place in live

One of the best places to visit in Romania if you love high mountains. Make sure you are phisically prepared and have the right gear, as weather can change rapidly, even in summer. In winter, go only after a thorough preparation.

Cool experience So many different fun attractions There is free parking on the left side just 100 m before reaching the mine. Never entered a salt mine by bus and that's cool too. Very clean mine and there are 2 toilets.

A great piece of history, a former salt mine converted to a tourist attraction. The access to the tunnel is provided by buses. The site offers many activities. There's a restaurant and a wine cellar, a church, a skating rink, table tennis, a souvenir shop, and a playground for kids. There's a constant temperature (15 C), which makes it the best place for activities on a hot day. I would definitely recommend the experience.
Alin P — Google review
Having no previous experience of salt mines I have no compassion but as experiences go I was very impressed by the level of amenities here at this hidden gem of an attraction. Plenty to see and do within... most additional activities within occur an additional cost. This is a great place for families as there's lots to see and do for kids
Matthew C — Google review
It’s truly a hidden gem! boasting numerous amenities such as a cozy cafe, a restaurant, a playground for children, tennis and baseball field, and even a winery. The addition of cartoon watching adds an extra layer of enjoyment for kids. It’s a perfect spot for families and anyone looking for a rejuvenating experience.

Nice place to do some healthy activities. Kids friendly, you can pay with card, pretty cheap entry fee. The bus that gets you into the mine it's super old, smells bad and it's kindda dirty. I recommend to have a sanitizer with you. Overall, if there's not crowded, you can enjoy the place!

Poenari Citadel, also known as Poenari Castle, is a historic fortress located in Romania. Positioned at the beginning of the Transfagarasan highway, this castle offers a glimpse into centuries-old history and provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The citadel was once a formidable stronghold guarding a crucial pass between Wallachia and Transylvania.
It's been a dream come true to see this place in life. And whilst I know it is just a heap of stones and some semi-conserved walls... it was still a joy. The walk up is not for the faint of heart but the views from the top are spectacular. Be aware that they have a timing schedule for entering the site and the last visits are scheduled at 15h00. Luckily we arrived just in time. Make sure to take water with you too, and maybe a sweat towel as it was sweltering hot and the air in the forest is pretty still.
Chris B — Google review
Beautiful place.. Need to hike about 1400 stairs to reach the castle but the view is so beautiful. Entrance fee of 30 lei pp is very fair and personnel nice and polite.
Alexander P — Google review
You will climb 1,476 stairs to get to the top of the fortress. It's absolutely worth it. I am a chronic pain patient and managed to reach the top with the help of a walking stick & a prayer in one hour. There are benches for breaks along the way. A must do for any fan of Vlad the Impaler- the inspiration for Dracula.
B M — Google review
A quite tiring journey up the 1480 steps but I think the view is worth it. There are only 4 times where you can enter (9:00, 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00) and you can buy the tickets near the very end. There are electrical fences on both sides of the path to keep wild animals at bay.
Cosmy — Google review
Really cool fitness test!! 😆 I kept the pace for the fam (1 dad, 1-13yo, and 1-7yo, to try and get there between 15-20min. It was a fun climb to a place that has history with the likes of Vlad the Impaler although it would be great if there was more history given as the signs that are there seem repetitive and don't offer much information. The views are captivating on either side, but keep in mind the ruins are small. It is true as others have said that they have timed entry, but you purchase your entrance at the top of stairs.
Marie L — Google review
1480 steps can be a lot for some people, take your time, even if it takes you a few hours to get up as the view is spectacular. This was worth travelling from the UK to Romania to see, breathtaking 😍
Mr H — Google review
1480 steps and I'm not young, but not old either. I was afraid I was not going to make it to the top, but I did. The path is graduated and has plenty of benches to rest. Bring plenty of water! Interesting visit, nice view. One of many stops on our Dracula tour (Vlad the Impaler).
Suzette V — Google review
The citadel is newly renovated. There are electric fences so that the wild animals to not approach. There are 1480 stairs in total but after you manage to arrive and you see the panoramic view from there, you forget that the stairs need to be climbed down as well. The payment can be made cash or card. Really cool Citadel.

The Curtea de Argeș Monastery is a 16th-century Romanian Orthodox cathedral dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God. It holds numerous early icons, religious artworks, and crypts. It's an unforgettable experience to visit this monastery, unique in its own right and steeped in a remarkable folk legend. The presence of royal tombs there also gives the place immense significance.
Nicolae N — Google review
Curtea de Arges Monastery is one of Romania’s most iconic and historically significant monasteries. The monastery was commissioned by Neagoe Basarab, Voivode of Wallachia, and built between 1512 and 1517. Neagoe wanted a church unlike any other, combining architectural elegance, Byzantine inspiration, and local craftsmanship. The monastery quickly became a center of spiritual and cultural life in Wallachia. One of the most famous stories associated with the monastery is the legend of Mesterul Manole, the master builder. According to the legend, Manole and his team could not complete the monastery’s roof, and a supernatural force kept causing it to collapse. A voice instructed him that the walls would only stand if he sacrificed his wife by immuring her in the structure. After reluctantly following this, the construction succeeded. The legend continues that after finishing the monastery, Manole tried to escape by jumping off the roof using wings he had made, but he tragically fell to his death. This story is celebrated in Romanian folklore and poetry as a symbol of sacrifice and devotion. Inside, the monastery holds the tombs of its founders, Neagoe Basarab and his wife, along with their daughter. Later, it became the burial place for Romanian royalty, including King Carol I, Queen Elisabeth, King Ferdinand, Queen Marie, and the last monarchs, King Mihai I and Queen Ana. Architecturally, the church is known for its intricate stone carvings, Byzantine-style frescoes, and a legendary church roof that inspired stories and poems. The combination of legend, history, and art makes it a unique cultural and religious monument. Unfortunately, when I visited, the monastery was closed as it is currently undergoing renovation, but it remains a must-see if you are in the area — both for its historical significance and the fascinating legends that surround it.

Is a nice monastery to visit considering it is a 500+ years old building. Mall VIVO!

Shopping mall
Shopping
Upbeat retail complex with brand-name stores & fast-food restaurants, plus a cinema, on 2 floors.
This used to be called Euromall (or more recently Pitești Mall) If you look closely at the back of the mall, you will see some blue triangular-like pillars, which belong to the original Euromall arhitecture which had the orange-blue color scheme. Anyway, the original owners sold the mall to Immofinanz and they changed it to VIVO!, a store chain. It is not like before, less (but not few) visitors, and manages to stay alive, despite of its more recent competition (Argeș Mall). It is located close to the highway, with nice stores, which attracts visitors. The view is really nice, with both the city and the river. I definitely recommend going here especially if you're going on the highway. What will happen to this mall, only time will tell.

Visitors to this restored 15th-century military fort can climb the tower's 122 steps for city views.
The complex is truly amazing! There is some more work to do, but the quiet vibes, the view from the tower on the top, the paintings inside the church, the walk on the bridge along the architecture, and the small museum are an awe! People who like history and Gothic things should totally give this place a try. It takes 20 lei for the entrance fee (adult), and you get to climb up to the tower to appreciate the work during Dracula's reign. 😀

Very nice tower, A long staircase

The very essence of an emblem of Targoviste, it does have a very fascinating view of the town, maybe one of the best. It is worth to visit it at least once 😁👍

If you have not been, you need not be told. GO. This place has hundreds of years of history. There is a lot to see and a lot to learn. The top of the tower view is priceless. The caves are amazing, and very cold. The ruins are super interesting. Visit on of Dracula's homes. How many can say they've seen it? The entrance see if 15RON, not too expensive for how much history this place holds. Take the kids too.

We passed by Târgoviște and the Tower on the way back home from Bucharest on Monday. It was supposed to be closed, but parking was readily available and free on the street, so we gave it a shot and surprisingly it was open. Tickets were 15RON per person, and we spent about an hour there. The tower was in great condition, and there was a little museum with written works from 100s of years ago that showcased the evolution of the Romanian language. Bathrooms were super clean too. Nice quiet historical place. Cheap tickets, easy parking. Great place to visit during a road trip break.

By far the most interesting object for visitors inside the Royal complex. The name of the tower in translation means "Sunset tower". This imposing structure was built during the time of Vlad Dracul, the father of the famous Vlad Tepes, also known as Dracula(thanks to the famous Bram Soker novel). The function of the tower evolved from that of a bell tower in the beginning of 15th century, to that of a watchtower, refuge and defence tower during the 15th-16th centuries and the to that of a clock tower in the 17th century.

The tower itself looks really good as it has been renovated, even though it’s not that tall you can see the whole city from it’s top. The park surrounding it is really beautiful. If you have small children you can take them to the city’s zoo which is a 5 minute walk from the tower.

A large property, secular trees, a dam, a chapel... Very quiet. I reccomend for a nice weekend day, two hours walk. Unfortunately, they don't allow your dog in the park - but there are some stray dogs.

Only time worth visiting is during summerwell, otherwise it's not really worth the 50RON fee to enter just for a stroll. It used to be a lot nicer.

Impolite and unwelcomming personnel and also management. Tried to get to the horses one day and they kicked us out (me and my young daughter). I'll never come back to this place and I also don't recommand anyone to. Also the place is not that clean and taken care of.

Good "papanasi" cake, but at the tendency in the park, you need to pay a voucher of 50 Ron per person, which can be used in the restaurant.

They ask lots of money just for visiting something that was once a while a public place. The restaurant is not worth.

The worst service ever. You wait an hour to be treated like an idiot by stupid waiters. Avoid this with all costs.

The garden in the summer is horrible, full of bugs !!

My wife had a hard time convincing herself to jump even though it was a gift for her birthday. She enjoyed this experience and the professionalism of TNT Brothers enormously. From what she said, it was an unforgettable experience and she recommended this company to everyone because she felt safe throughout the jump thanks to the information and instruction she received before the jump from the instructor.

I had my first free jump from 4.000 with an instructor. Amazing experience, great sensations. People are really nice, helpful, doing their best to make you feel good and safe and enjoy your experience at the maximum.

I was amazed to find such high standard drop zone in terms of safety, staff competence and facilities in this part of Europe. You can get the whole package here, from skydiving school - AFF, tandems and coaching for any levels and of course fun jumps all the way to 4000 meter. Awesome pink Pilatus PC-6 and after-jumps DZ vibe (:

Maybe the best skydiving place in the world. Also the safest dropzone. 🔥

Absolutely top-notch experience! I had an incredible time skydiving with TNT Brothers, first as a student and later as a fun jumper. The staff's professionalism and dedication to safety made the entire experience thrilling and worry-free, even when the adrenaline was at its peak. Everything runs like clockwork, and the community here is simply fantastic. I highly recommend it to anyone eager to dive into skydiving!

One of the best moments so far in my life. Beside the experience that was insane, the staff there are amazing. They truly know how to prepare you before the jump. And when I say prepare I don't mean just about the equipment I mean mindset prepare. They give you the perfect feeling when in doubt. If I need to describe the experience: CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN! P. S. It was my first time so I had my doubts. No more doubts I guarantee.

First things first. Do not believe people whining about delays in their jumps. Unless it's technical or weather related (both crucial for your safety) there isn't any delay. My check-in to getting on the plane was within 30 mins. Coming to the review, the location is beautiful and picturesque. Nature all around. My tandem diver Ramiro (sorry, I'm probably not using the correct name) was warm, chilled, attentive n very experienced. He had to be. This was his 12001st jump. Immediately put me at ease. Camera guy Dan was really cool too. Recorded the whole thing and more. The people there will put u at ease from the get go. Mixed emotions, definitely nervous as the gate opens before the jump. Luckily u spend less than 2 seconds at the exit point to rethink what you feel is a bad decision :)). And when you r out, Omg!!! For those brief 5-6 mins, your brain forgets EVERYTHING and is just in AWE. You get a bird's eye view of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I was literally dancing out of pure joy when we landed. My only regret is all of it got over too soon. I wish I could feel the way I felt for longer. One thing for sure, you feel a sense of achievement over fear for achieving the feat. Will definitely come back to Tnt next when I'm in Bucharest. TNT Bros, thanks a lot you guys. I'm aabid randhar. And i jumped on 6th oct 22.
