We did this hiking walk from El Bosque Town to Benamahoma. The entrance was not well signposted on the El Bosque town side if you are a tourist in the area, but we asked 2 local ladies who gave us ample instructions. This is a walk that you must not miss if you are in the area. The nearer you got to Benamahoma, the more beautiful the river became. The walk is fairly simple, although some areas might be more tricky if you have mobility issues. It was supposed to take about 2 hours at a comfortable pace, but we stopped several times to admire the areas and the beautiful birds. On reaching Benamahoma, there are public toilets very clean and well kept. Restrictions in the area are no swimming in the river or putting up picnic chairs, etc.
Annabelle C — Google review
Beautiful track, really worth it! You can walk in a circle, when you reach the botanical garden be careful not to walk down, there is a sign that you have to go down, but that’s directing you to a local bar. The gardens are closing @1500.
Sietse M — Google review
We loved this short route. We did it by road bikes (bad idea, we had to carry them most of the way) but it's a medium difficult path on foot. And the possibility of cooling yourself in the brook is exceptional! Just please take your garbage with you!
Viktor K — Google review
Excellent hike for most. Along the small river and lots of shade. Got busy mid day but not much people around 9
Andreas F — Google review
Awesome trail along the stream (officially a river) from Benamahoma to El Bosque, about 10 km round trip. The trail is shaded along much of it's route which helps keep it cool even on a hot day (is was 30+ degrees when we walked it but with the shade it was fine). There are some rocky sections and stone stairs so you need to be in reasonable shape but in general an easy trail.
Dave C — Google review
Nice and easy walk, very refreshing with a lot of shade. We were told that it can be very busy during the Weekends, so we went on Thursday and we didn't see many people there.
Laimonas G — Google review
Nice easy walk. Lot's of shade cover. Avoid at the weekends as it can get very busy.

Brilliant walk, about 1hr 30 mins each way. Loads of waterfalls and a really enjoyable few hours in nature. With a nice drink half way.

The Centro Histórico de Estepona is a charming area in the Costa del Sol that offers a glimpse into typical Andalusian town life. Stroll along cobblestone streets adorned with geraniums and explore historical sites like the Castillo de San Luis, built by Spain's Catholic Monarchs in the late 15th century.
A must of the Andalucia coast. Too beautiful and pristine.
Eloïse L — Google review
This a beautiful town, superbly maintained and kept to what seems its traditional heritage. The different coloured flowers on each street add to its charm and the number of pavement cafes and restaurants make it a place to easily linger. A walk along the promenade to the port will take you past beachside eateries and bars to a spot where on the right day there’s a lively market, on the hill above which is the bull ring. Very well worth a visit.
Scott B — Google review
Charming town. Very nice place to wander about for an afternoon.

A really nice cozy place to be in all year long mostly. There’s a lot of restaurants and bars to choose from. Plus you can walk to the beach boulevard and have a very nice walk by the beach.

Paseo Marítimo de Estepona

Mentioned on
13 lists
Promenade
Sights & Landmarks
Paseo Marítimo de Estepona is a picturesque waterfront promenade that stretches from La Rada beach to the fishing port. Lined with palm trees, it's perfect for a leisurely stroll, bike ride, or jog. The recently completed promenade features benches and vendors offering drinks. It's especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset, with colorful blooms and lush vegetation along the way. This vibrant area is bustling in the early evening as locals and visitors come out to enjoy the sunset.
Lots of spots to enjoy the view and lots of room to walk without tripping over other people. Dog owners need to pickup their pet's excrement though... it's quite alarming how little they care about it.
Deb R — Google review
Lovely place to visit, it's becoming very expensive and if you crave real Spain maybe go slightly down the coast , still a stunning place.
Darryl E — Google review
Fantastic Paseo This is one of our favourite paseo's in Spain. It is a really nice walk is fairly long and has all the expected amenities. During the night it is also great for the kids with some fair rides, etc. Along the paseos there are many cafes and bars.
Paul V — Google review
There are loads of places to eat and drink there are a few shops for gifts and groceries. The whole area is so clean and the playground very well maintained. There is some building works going on at one end but is completely fenced off. There is underground parking near by and reasonably priced.
Craig J — Google review
The promenade of Estepona is located along the beach of La Rada. It is the longest and busiest beach, next to the town centre with a total of almost 2.5 kilometres. It has large, spacious pedestrian areas and gardens and shelter from the sun. We enjoyed walking along the promenade, stopping along at some of the food places located along the boulevard to enjoy coffee, and ice-cream. We noticed they have playgrounds set up for families, which is so nice.
Naima — Google review
I can't believe there used to be cars in this area. Such a nice paseo! It's wonderful that this exists and it's fun to leisurely walk around and see the sunset!
G A — Google review
Very nice promenade. Wonderful flowers all around. We only have had some time in the afternoon, but there is more to see. It's definitely worth visiting this area.

Puerto Deportivo de Estepona, located on the original working fishing harbor, is a vibrant destination with numerous tapas bars, restaurants, and shops. Visitors can savor delicious paella and fresh seafood while admiring the luxurious yachts docked nearby. The area also offers lively nightlife with discos and nightclubs. Additionally, it features a Sunday market where one can find crafts and clothing.
Very nice..lots of restaurants and bars. All of the ones we went to were very good.
Eddie G — Google review
I stopped by with just the tender, as my boat was too large to enter and had to remain at anchor. The town itself is charming and easily reachable on foot from the port, thanks to a beautiful, flower-lined promenade along the beach. The city center is lovely, especially the narrow, flower-filled streets of the old town. The marina staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout my visit.
Vincenzo N — Google review
Like the blue and white look of the port , love the Thai ,Indian and many other restaurants. Hope it stays the way it is and doesn’t lose its charm by turning into a second Marbella.
Lorraine R — Google review
What a wonderful place to stay, to visit, to enjoy sailing sports or simply a nice morning or evening walk with a drink !
Otmane S — Google review
Our hotel was in a great location looking out to the sea!, Everything you wanted was within walking distance some great restaurants and bars.
David B — Google review
Nice small Puerto with a variety of restaurants, and bars. drink, and to have a walk. Parking on the Puerto available.
Marbella E — Google review
Small and somewhat outdated marina, but hey it is always relaxing to walk in a marina. On the other hand there are many restaurants here. Pay attention, in the "old" fisherman's port you will find the best restaurant ,-) ..see pictures to find the spot, so you do not get fooled by the cozy appearance of the restaurants (and Jazz bar) immediately in the touristic area.. Take your time. Choice is abundant.

This is a beautiful port loads of fantastic boats sailing and miter . There are plenty of wonderful bars and restaurants all around the port . There is a lovely walk flat and safe dog friendly and wheelchair friendly

Castle of Castellar de la Frontera

Hotel
Sights & Landmarks
Castles
Informal rooms & suites in an 11th-century castle hotel featuring a restaurant & countryside views.
It’s a dream come true!! we lived in this castle in an apartment when we were in our 20s and had a young child age 5. We returned in our 70s and our son was now 54. The hotel was just beautiful. The service was excellent! They were so friendly and warm. They were helpful with everything we needed. We loved the restaurant. The views were just spectacular. And the memories, words could never say.
Janis W — Google review
This is of course an atmospheric and special place to stay, but somehow it didn't really make me happy. My room was nice and the view spectacular, but the bathroom was clearly in need of a makeover - tiles cracked, fittings coming off from the wall. Food/dining is a rather joyless affair; the breakfast area is tiny and cramped, and so is the only restaurant in the complex, El Aljibe, in which I had a very average and somewhat overpriced dinner. Staff were nice, most of them anyway. Obviously you stay here for location and atmosphere, but as a hotel this is rather average.
Jochen — Google review
Dreadful. Staff poorly trained. Absent after 8pm. Wi-fi poor. No help in sourcing food from the restaurant when it was pouring rain and strong winds. Extremely disappointed especially since it was our honeymoon. Sincerely regret booking.
Hilary L — Google review
Beautiful location on our way to Ronda. Recommend for a quick 20 minute stop to take in the sights.
Deborah S — Google review
Ideal for a 1-2 nights stay. We arrived at night which made the road up a bit challenging as there are no lights. We enjoyed the stay watching the sunset and sunrise and where greeted by numerous vultures flying in front of our window the first morning. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant which was cozy and nice and opted for the breakfast buffet which had a good enough selection to start the day well.
The N — Google review
Fantastic views, room is great with a big bed, not a great selection of food, but overall a great experience.
David B — Google review
Recommend one/max two nights stay (we stayed for 3 nights and this is a bit too much). Horse riding is absolutely gorgeous (book and pay from reception). Restaurant in the castle is really good, locals often come here for a nice lunch or dinner, we tried almost all dishes over there. Warm salad with the goat cheese, both wild boar and deer are delicious. Medieval houses provide with an amazing feeling. Just don’t expect super clean surfaces (the hotel tries to clean it, no worries, it’s just that type of old surfaces). Cooking inside did not work, no wifi and electricity breaking- all of that fits quite well to the concept actually
Lidia — Google review
We stayed in the castle overnight and it was magical. The views alone are unreal and make it worth it. The room is very spacious too. Highly recommend and would easily spend another night there. Things close down early but they have a restaurant in the castle which is good and not horrible in price either. To enter the hotel you need to walk into the courtyard which I read off a previous review as it isn’t well signed marked. The parking is easy enough and it’s a short walk up to the reception desk. Definitely recommend staying here but have a car so you can come and go as you please.

Amazing history and culture experience, absolutely beautiful place. Isabel Domecq and her staff are absolutely awesome! Made us feel welcomed. I would recommend this Spanish cultural experience to anyone.
Jose D — Google review
I rather enjoyed our time here. You get to see some horse dressage (similar to the start of the show at the royal riding school show in Jerez, but I thought it was done better here. Clearly he had done his time at the school). The cattle, both the bulls and the oxen were of moderate interest. The best part of was the tour of the small museum where Isabella shared some of the details of bulls and bull fighting, along with her clear pride of her family’s heritage.
Jason B — Google review
Truly a remarkable experience. Everyone should go.
Santiago — Google review

Piotr W — Google review
Very interesting show and beautiful horse dressage’s. They explained it in all types of languages. I would of liked to see the biggest bull, but they probably weren’t available.
Tibbe K — Google review
We enjoyed the kind hospitality offered by A Campo Abierto staff throughout the duration of our visit to the ranch. We were greeted by Patricia, a member of the Donec family who was extremely helpful and informative throughout the visit. Patricia provided a comprehensive commentary in fluent English and addressed our questions in full. An arena was used to demonstrate dressage skills followed by viewings of cows, calves and four year old fighting bulls. We learnt so much about the people, livestock and the natural environment. Being from a farming background we appreciated the stockmanship and care necessary to breed the cattle and horses. The demonstrations and visit to the museum enhanced our understanding of the role of bullfighting within Andalusian culture. The visit has inspired us to further explore Andalusian culture during our next visit to Spain. We thoroughly enjoyed this spectacular visit which concluded with a welcome sampling of A Campo Abierto sherry. Thanks to all the staff at the ranch, but especially to Patricia who is a very competent, knowledgeable tour guide and affable host. John & Roberta.

A fantastic, friendly working Bull and horse ranch that how and explains the breeding process of the bulls and horses, thy then show how the animals are brought in from wild and herded into the arena with great skill and care, you can then meet the riders and horses

Rock of Gibraltar

Sights & Landmarks
The Rock of Gibraltar is a famous limestone promontory that offers stunning sea views and a nature reserve. Standing at an impressive height of 426m, it provides breathtaking vistas of the Mediterranean Sea and North Africa. The rock is home to historic and cultural gems such as St. Michael's Cave, as well as 300 wild monkeys in the reserve.
Very nice experience, the entrance was £30 but very worth it. It is very doable to walk up the rock instead of taking the taxi. I would definitely recommend going here! Also the monkeys were very cute and used to humans, just down pet or feed them! Also the monkeys can steal from you and even open your backpack. When we were going up a monkey jumped on my backpack and opened it.
Wiebe T — Google review
Great experience! We saw the monkeys, enjoyed the stunning views, and it was totally worth it. We booked tickets in advance, it's a must, otherwise you waste hours in line in a hot weather. Beautiful place, definitely recommend! 🐒🌍
Online A — Google review
Offers great views all the way to Africa. Cable car takes you to the top in only 6-7 minutes. Up there you can see wild monkeys.
Ivan — Google review
Visiting the Rock of Gibraltar was such a memorable experience. The views from the top are absolutely breathtaking — unfortunately it was a bit foggy on the day we were visiting the Rock. The famous monkeys are definitely the stars of the show. They’re playful, curious, and not afraid to get close (so hold on to your snacks!). The hike to the top is amazing — you pass so many interesting spots along the way and the scenery just keeps getting better the higher you go. It’s a perfect mix of nature, history, and adventure.
Marjanca K — Google review
Best Way to Enjoy It (SAVE MONEY! AVOID CABLE CAR!) This is the best and cheapest way to do it! First things first — avoid the cable car! It’s expensive and you’ll miss out on the full adventure. Instead, start your journey from the Union Jack Steps / Straits and walk up. The route is scenic and full of incredible viewpoints. When you reach the first main point called Devil’s Gap, you’ll find the Nature Reserve entrance. Here you only need to buy one ticket for around £30 & THAT’S ALL YOU HAVE TO PAY! Don’t waste extra money elsewhere! That single ticket includes access to all the top attractions: • The Suspension Bridge • The St. Michael’s Cave (absolutely breathtaking — don’t miss it!) • The Skywalk • And several other amazing viewpoints along the way You can walk in a circular route around the Rock, which takes about 3–4 hours, or take a shorter 1–2 hour route straight to the top, there are multiple paths, so you can choose based on your time and energy. And yes, you’ll definitely see the famous MONKEYS! 🐒 They’re fun to watch but don’t feed them and keep your distance, they can get curious and might try to grab your stuff! If you can, stay until sunset, the view is unforgettable. You can even see Africa across the sea on a clear day! 🌅 Honestly, this hike is worth every step, don’t waste your money on the cable car. Get the real experience by climbing the Rock yourself! the views, the nature, and the sense of achievement are unbeatable!
Abheeth ( — Google review
What a beautiful place to visit, stunning views and the monkeys are so lovely. Nice cafe at the top, and plenty to see. We walked down and went in the tunnels as well. My issue is the amount of taxis piled up waiting. At one point there were at least 30!! You end up spending your time avoiding being run over as they don’t care and act like they own the place. One beeped his horn at me and I was nowhere near in his way. I think that amount of taxis ruins the experience.
Caroline B — Google review
We loved Gibraltar :) There is a lot to visit here - for example, viewpoints with monkeys, caves, military tunnels, a castle and much more. The trip is for the whole day. I recommend visiting! :)
Petr T — Google review
We recently spent the day at the Rock of Gibraltar and it did not disappoint! We travelled up the rock using the cable car and walked back down. The ride up took around 4 minutes and offered fantastic views. The walking descent allowed us explore the nature reserve and its attractions at our own pace and had some brilliant sights along the way too (but beware of the aching legs the next day!). A Nature Reserve ticket is a must and gave us access to key attractions like St. Michael's Cave and the historic Great Siege Tunnels. You can buy this ticket online or in person at the Cable Car ticket office; the price was the same either way. Throughout our walk, we also found various cafes, gift shops, and plenty of toilet facilities. This allowed us to comfortably spend the entire day on the rock. The views were incredible, stretching out over the sea and into Africa. Be mindful of the Barbary macaques but we found that left alone (and away from food), they were no trouble.

Plenty of shops ,bars and cafes. A very busy street. Rolex, Boss, hotel chocolat to name a few. Perfect place to people watch.
Ian L — Google review
The street is absolutely cute! Lot of flags and flowers, big effort to make it look as British as possible. Lots of shops, services and places to stop and have drinks. Is worth to spend some time walking down the street and taking in all the fun options.
Ilana S — Google review
Lots of shops, however, mostly jewellers and alcohol and tobacco shops. Can get very busy with tourists. A few cafes at the end.
SARAH B — Google review
Nice long street in the centre of Gibraltar. Has a good selection of shops but many are owned by the same company so for example, jewellery shops and perfume shops sell much of the same thing. Have small Next & Marks & Spencers but with limited items. Was nice to spend a day there. Probably good for people from cruise ships.

It's advisable to arrive early during peak season to avoid long queues that can form quickly throughout the day.
Really amazing experience. We went earlish and it was very fairly quiet - 25 minutes queueing. At this time no point in pre-booking you are basically in the same queue. Others have said that when the cruises ships dock it gets very busy and I would agree with that - we saw it get busy in waves. You can wander around at the top of juts grab a bite.

A bit expensive we paid close to €200 return for 2 adults and 2 children. The ride is short but the views are amazing and totally worth it. I think the easiest way to get up the rock in Gib! We got the tickets that include the Nature Reserve! Buy tickets in advance the wait is long, bring water!
Melech E — Google review
Amazing views from the top, where you can see all the way to Africa. We visited on Friday, not too busy. Just a couple of people in line to buy tickets. The line to enter the cable car was whatsoever a bit longer and it took almost 30 minutes in the sun with no air condition. On the top you get to see wild monkeys. There is also a souvenir shop and a small bar.

What an experience. 🙈 I bought my ticket for the cable car (CC) and the shuttle to it before crossing the border for 23€, which was the first mistake. Once I got to the entrance of the CC there were two lines. One for the people who bought their tickets in advance and one for people who didn't have tickets yet. The least was way shorter and got merged with the we-already-have-tickets line at some point further down the road, so the no-tickets-guys all passed me by and it felt like you get punished for paying earlier and attending prepared. Also, there was a guy who told us, this line takes 1.5h and offered a better shuttle ride going up directly for the cost of about 50€. Great. Another punch to the guts for paying in advance. After being in line for an hour, suddenly I've been told that the last pre-paid shuttle ride back to the border leaves at 4:30, however it was already 3p.m., so I knew, I would never make it in time and would have to pay again to use the public bus. "Honorable mentions": there is only one toilette half way through line, which you'll reach after about 45 mins and there is no place to buy drinks, which is lethal standing that long in the heat. Furthermore, the 23€ didn't include going to the skywalk. On top of the rock they asked me to pay another 30£ to go there, which I declined. My advice: Take the public bus to the CC for about 2,60€ (Bus numbers 5 or 10, which start right where the shuttles start, when crossing the border to Gibraltar) and take the offered shuttle ride instead of the CC at the bottom of the rock for 50€. They will offer it right at the beginning of the line to the CCs. I certainly won't ever get into this line from hell again. Once you've made it to the top, it's a good experience.
Andy V — Google review
It is extremely crowded. If you buy online, you still have to wait to exchange the code you receive with the real ticket. After waiting for an hour, we barely managed to make it to the half of the queue. We decided to hike to the top, which is actually a very nice experience. I recommend hiking and buying the Nature Reserve tickets from the road.
Cristian-Petrut P — Google review
There are many questions and little precise information about how to get at the top of the rock and see all the sights. Tried to put it all together. 1. Should I book the cable car in advance and how do I get at the top? It depends on whether you arrived in Gibraltar on your own or on a cruise ship. It also depends on whether you want to just go up to the restaurant with nice views and go back or walk along the entire cliff. The decision is up to you, but the ticket price will also depend on it. A) If your cruise arrives at 7-8:00 am, it is better to be on the cable car by 9:00 am, then you can avoid a long line and will wait for a maximum of 15-30 minutes. NB! Important! Some people arrived at 11:00-12 o'clock, and then the cable car queue tooj about 2 hours! B) If you are arriving on your own, you can order a taxi tour. Prices and times you get from taxi drivers at Gibraltar. C) You climb to the top on your own. Don't forget to buy an entrance ticket to the rock. The journey will take approximately 1,5 - 2 hours depending on the route and what you want to visit, but it is better to go straight to the top by cable car. This will save you a lot of time if you don't want to spend the whole day on this rock. D) Make booking through your operator. If you are not in good physical condition, advise to arrive early or take a taxi! NB! Monkeys are very interesting, but be extremely careful!!! This is a real monkey gang. They may act cute and funny and not look at you, but at this time another monkey may snatch your bag. If you have food in your backpacks, they can smell it and can atack! Large males are especially dangerous in order to demonstrate their superiority, they may attack everyone in a row, even large human men! If you are with children, keep them close to you, no sudden movements, no desire to pet the monkey!
Push T — Google review
Great way to get to the top of the rock! They really pack you in though, so be sure to get an outside view. We did the walk from cruise port to the cable car and it wasn't bad. We walked down the rock and stopped at the Skywalk, St Michael's cave and the Apes Den, then back through town to the ship. Overall we did 9+ miles walking. The downhill nature of trail was rough.
Melisa E — Google review
Very crowded and very busy you should not visit in the middle of the day!!!! Early morning or late! Otherwise better to go for with guided tours small vans available at the entrance for almost the same price and faster tour for all the landmarks up there! So you don’t need to wait in the son or walk between the landmarks on feet

Saint Michael's Cave is a captivating limestone cavern located beneath the Rock of Gibraltar. The cave boasts intricate formations of stalactites and stalagmites, illuminated by colorful lights for a mesmerizing experience. Visitors can explore this natural wonder as part of the Upper Rock Nature Reserve attractions, which also include the Great Siege Tunnels and the Glass Skywalk. Additionally, guided tours offer insights into the region's rich cultural heritage and provide opportunities to observe Barbary macaques in their natural habitat.
This cave is a breath of air in the heat wave 😂 After walking around in the reservation, and in hot weather, going underground is the best that can happen to you. Of course, the cave is spectacular. You have a lot of room and at some point an amphitheatre with a stage. In that room they have light projections. Very beautiful and we spent some time inside until the body temperature got balanced.
Andreea D — Google review
Our tour took us to the breathtaking Saint Michael's Cave, and what an experience it was! The cave itself was stunning, filled with mood lighting and enchanting music that truly showcased nature's beauty. While I had anticipated a more extensive cave system, the atmosphere was still captivating.
Hannah M — Google review
The caves are not easy to get to and usually require a bus trip to get to. I must say the effort is worth it. Though the area accessible to the public is not large, it is really beautiful. The lights and music set off these limestone formations wonderfully. The stalactites and stalagmites have formed amazing shapes over thousands of years. Of the all the formations the St Michael image is the most sticking and best seen when the lighting reveals the image. The amphitheater is great and I believe there are concerts held in the caves. A great place to visit.
G M — Google review
Really amazing cave in some places I would argue the lighting takes away from the natural beauty. The light show is great but don't expect any info on the cave at this point. Definitely worth a visit, stunning natural structures.
Trevor H — Google review
So beautiful! Its cool inside, not too hot or cold - just perfect. Every so often there are colourful lights flashing onto the walls of the cave making them look beautiful, as well as showing the area that is meant to look like Saint Michael better. (Included image). There is an area with a bunch of chairs where you can watch a little show of lights on the cave walls every seven minutes. There is a few stairs so wouldn't recommended someone with limited mobility to go however there is a wheelchair lift available to the show area.
Laura T — Google review
It was a really nice experience. The light installations are pretty and effective. There is a small area with chairs for concerts. The acoustic must be amazing. Sadly we had no time for a concert there. 😊

Amazing cave full of impressive stalactites and stalagmites, with spectacular lighting that makes the visit even more magical. The auditorium inside is unique and adds a special touch. A must-see if you visit the Rock of Gibraltar.

Good experience. Cute little light house. Plenty of parking space. Was accessible via bus. There is a food place and an ice cream truck. Toilets are clean. Also has a kids play area. Not much to see but visited as it is the southern moat point of Gib.

Stunning views! We got there for the sunset 🌅 there are interesting facts to read about the area and monuments to observe. The lighthouse is interesting, but the best thing about the point was the view of the sunset!

Southernmost tip of Gibraltar, one can see Africa from this point on a clear day. The Europa Ppint lighthouse or the Trinity Lighthouse is quite pretty with its red and white colours against a backdrop of blue waters and the sky. There was a nice breeze during the day which made the warm sun bearable.

The most wonderful beach, especially for children as it slopes so gently. Baelo Claudia is an ancient Roman city located along the coastline from Los Canos de Meca. It was once a thriving seaside town known for fish processing and trade with North African ports. Today, it stands as one of the best-preserved Roman archaeological sites in Andalucia, dating back to the 2nd century. The ruins include villas, a forum, shops, basilica, and baths that offer a glimpse into its prosperous past.
Beautiful peace of history that gives you good intentions of the city structure and citizens' lives. Surrounded by stunning views. Free admission, we could gladly pay 5 to 8 euro per person to contribute to building maintenance (the roof is leaking) and fund further excavation. I'm tremendously happy that we stopped on a sunny day!
Algita H — Google review
Driving the coastal route from Málaga to Cádiz, Baelo Claudia provided a fascinating insight into the methods the Romans used for preserving fish, fishing for tuna, and producing ‘garum’ - a fish sauce delicacy. Managing to survive an earthquake and pirate raids, it stands as one of Spain’s most complete Roman towns. Efficient, clean set-up – well worth stopping off for.

Prepare yourself with information before visiting this place. It is a very powerful historical site, and if you are filled with knowledge of what happened there, you will gain unforgettable impressions and emotions from being there. It is very important to preserve such relics in order to have the opportunity to touch ancient history.

Emma H — Google review
History is for me very important and can not leave without it. It’s everyone’s present and we need to embrace it. Baelo Claudia site is small and well kept. The government of Spain really does beautiful work to keep their heritage, weather is Roman, or Muslim heritage. Baelo Claudia was an ancient Roman town in Hispania, located 22 kilometres (14 mi) outside of Tarifa, near the village of Bolonia, in southern Spain. Situated on the shore of the Strait of Gibraltar, the town began as a fishing village and trading hub when it was settled approximately 2,000 years ago. Although a prosperous town at the time of Emperor Claudius, it went into a decline partially fueled by earthquakes and was abandoned by the 6th century

Truly a hidden gem in this part of Spain! We visited in the winter and it was so beautifully quiet despite the gorgeous sunny weather. Super cheap entry (particularly if you are an EU resident) and lots to look at and explore- just incredible to see the ruins of an old theatre and to picture what this place looked like so long ago. The museum is small but exquisitely curated, we learnt a lot and would love to come back to wander around again! So stunning right by the ocean, with all the lovely olive trees. There are places to have a picnic too, which I think is just so charming. Definitely recommend this place!

Nice location next to the beach. It’s free to visit for EU citizens. We came at 14:30 and we were constantly reminded by the staff that they were closing in 30.min (15:00)and we had to be “Rapido” 😅 A bit annoying but we still managed to hurry up and see the outside ruins. So be aware of the opening hours beforehand. There is a free parking outside the museum entrance. Worth the visit if you are passing by.

We recently enjoyed a 10-night Western Mediterranean Cruise on the MSC Lirica sailing from Alicante (cost £420 each in January).  The sixth stop was Ceuta and from the port there was a short walk to all the main attractions including the Murallas Reales de Ceuta (Royal Walls of Ceuta).   The Royal Walls is a well maintained fort that dates back to the 16th century. At the fort there are lots of artefacts including cannons The fortress walls are divided by a moat that connects both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.  From the top of the moat there are fantastic views of the port, Mount Hacho (mountain) and the beaches Playa de la Ribera and Playa del Chorrillo. The Royal walls are surrounded by the historical city of Ceuta that has beautiful fountains, monuments (Hercules, Escultura Pedro Meneses, Escultura de Enrique el Navegant, Escultura del Alcalde Sanchez Prados and so on), gardens and squares including Plaza de Africa and Plaza de los Reyes. There are also a number of museums including the Military Museum of the Legion, Fuerte del Desnarigado fort and museum, the Museo del Revellín and the Museo de la Basilica Tardorromana. Other attractions include the Triumphal arch, the casino, the Cathedral, the House of Dragons,  Puerto Califal Fort, Ceuta Park Mall, the Shrine of Our Lady of Africa, the lighthouse Faro Punta Almin, the food market Mercado Central and Park San Amaro. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Ceuta, because we felt relaxed, the people were very friendly and there was so much to do and see We would definitely recommend a visit to both Ceuta and the Royal Walls.

The central square, Petit Socco, is a hub of activity where locals gather to socialize and play games. Once frequented by famous literary figures like Paul Bowles and Jack Kerouac, the medina offers glimpses of the Bay of Tangier through its winding alleys and hosts vibrant market stalls selling various goods.
Great location in the medina. We had twin room with ensuite bathroom. Room was clean & had everything we needed for our short stay in Tangier. Breakfast was fresh every morning. Staff were friendly & very helpful. Great view from the roof terrace all be it up a spiral staircase. Would definitely come back for a short stay in Tangier.

The staff were friendly and nice. Location was ok – in the centre of medina. Room description: dark, ugly, with a smelly bathroom which looks like a prison. The bed was too soft, I had a back pain after sleeping on it. If you don’t care about this and your main purpose is to save some money on accommodation – book it. Maybe you can handle 1-2 nights. Small breakfast in the terrace with a view included.

The hotel was a traditional Hotel. The rooms was ok , clean and warm. The only problem was the outside toilet. Difficult through the night or for shower.. The hotel was in the centre of the old town Medina. For me too much traffic and noise but i didn't know about the life rhythms in the old town. The breakfast was basic but the choices of bread really good ! The staff was really very kind and helpful ! Was a nice stay in a good price.

Cape Spartel is a captivating site located in northern Morocco, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea at the Strait of Gibraltar. It is known for its 300m high lighthouse and the legendary Caves of Hercules, where it's said that Hercules rested before his twelfth labor. The area features stunning rocky coastlines, beautiful beaches like Ba Kassem beach, and offers a perfect day-trip from Tangier for families.
Best spot for a visit in Tangier. The views were mesmerizing from Cape spartel. Light house looks so beautiful that it takes you back in history. The view from lighthouse and sunset is absolutely magical. The garden and Cafe is so beautiful. Overall I believe it's the major highlight of my visit to Tangier.

Definitely worth it the visit! An important historical spot, with a very well kept garden and scientific information. I would suggest to include English explanation in addition to french and Arabic.

Cap Spartel is a must-visit spot just outside Tangier. The views are breathtaking, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. The lighthouse adds a historic charm, and the surrounding gardens are peaceful and well kept. 💡 Tip: Best time to visit is late afternoon to enjoy the sunset. Bring some water or snacks if you don’t plan to eat at the café.

Beautiful location with incredible views. The spot gets busy, but it’s worth it for the scenery. Nice place and a bit of fresh air

Cap Spartil is truly a hidden gem! The natural beauty of the place is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views of the coastline and the surrounding landscape. The lighthouse adds a unique charm to the location, offering panoramic vistas that make it a perfect spot for relaxation and exploration. The peaceful atmosphere, combined with the fresh air and scenic surroundings, makes it an unforgettable destination. Whether you're looking for a quiet escape or a place to connect with nature, Cap Spartil is the ideal place. Highly recommended!
Reem M — Google review
Beautiful! 🤩 Excellent panoramic views from the top of the lighthouse where you can see the joining of the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea! Entry fee to get in to the lighthouse, museum, and garden, though the gardens were unfortunately closed while we were visiting. It’s a beautiful 4 km/2.5 mile walk/drive/bike ride between here and Hercules Cave. For those without a car, In Drive app is probably your best bet for visiting from Tangier. If you are friendly with the driver they might even bring you back for a good price and give you some history on the area.

Tétouan is a captivating city that perfectly balances charm and scale, making it an ideal destination for travelers. Nestled in a mountainous region, this beautiful locale offers stunning panoramas that will leave you in awe. As you wander through its streets, you'll notice the unique blend of European and Arab-Muslim architectural styles, heavily influenced by Spanish culture. The old medina is particularly enchanting with its vibrant blue and white color scheme—a hallmark of northern Morocco.
Very nice city Highly recommended to visit Not only the old town but even its surrounding places
Ahmed A — Google review
This blue old medina was a marvelous experience. You gonna have to climb a few step and by a few steps I mean all the way. Everything is painted blue and white which is actually a color theme that you'll see all around the north of Morocco. A must see city.

Historical place
Hercules Caves, located on a promontory between two Atlantic beaches, is steeped in legend and history. According to myth, Hercules rested here before his 11th labor to steal the golden apples from the Hesperides Garden. The cave's spectacular seaside opening is said to resemble the African continent and dates back to the Neolithic period. It is believed that Phoenicians cut this opening and Berbers extracted millstones from its walls over many centuries.
My Visit to the Hercules Cave in Tangier 🇲🇦 I had an amazing time visiting the Hercules Cave in Tangier — it was truly a magical experience! The entrance fee was 80 MAD for foreigners, and I believe it’s around 60 MAD for locals (though I’m not entirely sure). Honestly, I think it’s beautiful that locals get a special rate — they’re the heart of this land, and if it were up to me, souvenirs would be free for them! They truly deserve it all — may God bless them always 💛 The natural views around the cave were breathtaking, and walking inside the cave felt like stepping into a dream. Just… wow wow! I absolutely loved every moment of it. It’s definitely worth a visit, and I hope I get the chance to come back again soon. Highly recommended if you’re in Tangier! 💫

The Caves of Hercules are a popular tourist destination near Tangier, Morocco. They're known for their unique sea-facing entrance that resembles the map of Africa and are often praised for their beautiful views, especially at sunset. Amazing spots to relax and spend some serene time here.

Grottes d’Hercule in Morocco is a stunning natural cave overlooking the Atlantic Ocean near Tangier. Famous for its legendary connection to Hercules, the site features dramatic rock formations, a natural opening shaped like Africa, and breathtaking sea views. Ideal for sightseeing and photography.
عبدالرزاق ا — Google review
Visiting the Hercules Caves was such a unique and memorable experience. The place has a beautiful natural feel, and the famous opening shaped like the map of Africa is even more impressive in person. Walking through the cave, you can really feel the history and the atmosphere — it’s simple but very captivating. The area around the caves is also lovely, with amazing ocean views that make the whole visit even more special. It’s definitely a spot worth seeing if you’re in Tangier, and a great place to take photos and enjoy the scenery. Highly recommended!
Bshayer H — Google review
If it’s part of your tour or along your route, it’s worth a quick stop. The cave itself is beautiful, especially the view where the water flows through the opening—quite a unique sight. While the surrounding area is largely developed for tourism, it can still be enjoyable, especially for families. The flat terrain and minimal stairs make it very kid-friendly and easy to explore. Great for a short, scenic break and to pick up some souvenirs. Must visit this place
Sharmili R — Google review
One of the most hyped up tourist spots in Tangier. it's a small space with minimal information, so do some reading before you go. It's overpriced for what is offered. We paid 80drh each (roughly £7.50-£8) for a quick 10 mins inside. there is another small section (i think it was called a gallery) for a separate cost In all honesty the cave is not big, There was a barrier blocking some of it so i don't know if that part is ever opened up to the public. the hype is mainly for the opening in the rocks where you can see the sea and rock formation is the shape of Africa. Everything i read online about a path etc, I did not see. If part of the cave was closed, they should have charged less. As a local citizen you can get the ticket for 30 dirham. Not really impressed with a cost that can't be justified
Roshni S — Google review
The history of this cave given by our guide was fascinating. I was surprised how large the cave was and how clean and well preserved it was as well. A very interesting and worthwhile visit.
Diane W — Google review
A great sight to see. The lighting makes it seem otherworldly when you first walk in. If you've never been I would go at least once to see the water flow and be in awe of the natural formation.

The name Asilah conjures up images of meandering streets adorned with pristine, white houses sporting freshly painted walls that shimmer under the sun. The sound of the nearby Mediterranean Sea can be heard as it gently laps against the town's shores, reminiscent of coastal towns in Cadiz. Renowned for its immaculate medina, known as Arcila, Asilah is meticulously cared for by its residents who treat every street and Neo-Arabic building like a valuable treasure.
Loved staying here. Competitive rates. Lovely room. View was amazing. The place was very quiet and the host was really helpful
Julie R — Google review
Great location. Easy walking distance to town centre and all restaurants and cafe. The room we stays was very nice, got comfortable bed and good hot shower. The staff were kind and there was no hassle or problems. Would recommend this place if you are looking for somewhere to stay when you visit Asilah.
Apichaya J — Google review
The apartment is perfectly located, and it has a beautiful view on the ocean and the walls of the medina. The room was very modern and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The staff was really nice and flexible, and he even offered help when we needed to print out our tickets urgently. If I visit Morocco again I will definitely return to this place.
Levente Z — Google review
Really comfortable and clean place. The furniture of the apartment and the bed were so comfortable. You have all the things you need for cooking and cleaning in the kitchen. Big fridge for storage. The view is incredible because you can see the beach all the time during the day and night with nice place to rest.
HAFSSA H — Google review
The hotel is clean and tidy and we got a great deal on the place. The staff were pleasant and the sea view was lovely. On a negative the wifi is dreadful and there is still some building work going on. Also no access to the roof.
Graham H — Google review
The apartment was small but clean and cosy with very good placement. Close to the city center and in a quiet neighborhood. They just need to renew some furniture items, toilet and kitchen equipments
Sam — Google review
Quite overpriced for the kind of stay you are offered. The location was good. Parking underground was also a good option, but there is quite a hassle to call for someone to open the door everytime you want to exit. Also the sea view wasn't much of a view. Some of the staff were quite impolite. You have to track one of them down each time you need any necessities like towels.
Najwa A — Google review
I really can not understand why Moroccans just want to make money without improving the quality service. We booked for 3 persons and we got an apartment with 2 single beds. We asked the owner and said the third person can sleep on the couch. The toilets were not clean, the kitchen equipments were dirty and dusty. Come on it is a modern apartment so keep it clean. Just avoid that place please.

The Mausoleum of Mohammed V is a significant site in Morocco, featuring the final resting place of King Mohammed V and the tombs of King Hassan II and Prince Abdallah. The mausoleum showcases elegant Alaouite architecture with a striking green dome set against white marble.
The Mausoleum of Mohammed V in Rabat is a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture. The white marble, the intricate zellij tiles, and the cedar wood carvings reflect the country’s rich heritage. The atmosphere inside is calm, respectful, and very moving. Guards in traditional attire add to the solemnity and beauty of the place. It’s not just a historical monument, but also a symbol of Morocco’s modern history. A must-visit site in Rabat for both its cultural and spiritual significance.
Jamal S — Google review
The Mausoleum of Mohammed V is a truly magnificent site and one of Rabat’s most iconic landmarks. The architecture is stunning — a perfect blend of Moroccan craftsmanship and Islamic artistry, with intricate tilework, marble floors, and beautifully carved ceilings. Inside, the atmosphere is serene and respectful, honoring King Mohammed V and his sons, King Hassan II and Prince Abdallah. The site is well maintained, and the guards in traditional uniforms add a ceremonial touch to the experience. A must-visit for anyone exploring Morocco’s royal and historical heritage.
Dema — Google review
This is where Mohammed V was buried and available to visit. The Mausoleum was designed by a Vietnamese and it has semblance of the Taj Mahal with white marbles and shapes. The place has many guards and they are friendly for photos. One of the best part of this place is the guards on horses and their exchanges. A nice ceremony if you can catch that changing of the horse guards.
C N — Google review
Interesting place, definitely worth a visit. I was impressed by the guards in their traditional uniforms. Unfortunately, we visited on a foggy and rainy day. Outside, there are street vendors who sell fresh orange juice and roasted nuts. The architecture is beautiful and fascinating both inside and out. There’s a huge, impressive fountain outside, though it’s fenced off and visibility is limited.
Tsvetelina D — Google review
I only got to see the Mausoleum of Mohammed V from the outside, but it was still an unforgettable stop. The white marble, green-tiled roof, and intricate carvings make it one of the most beautiful buildings in Rabat. Even from a distance, you can feel the importance of the place and the care put into every detail. It sits right next to Hassan Tower, and together they create one of the most striking sights in the city. The area feels peaceful and dignified, with guards in traditional uniforms and wide open courtyards that add to the atmosphere. Definitely worth visiting, even if you only view it from the outside.

The tomb of Mohammed V Ben Youssef is a building designed by Vietnamese engineer Eric Van Town, built opposite the Hassan Silo on Yacoub Mansour Almohad Square in the Moroccan capital Rabat. It was built on a height opposite the city of Salé overlooking the Abu Ruqraq River and close to its Atlantic estuary. The construction of the tomb of Mohammed V took about ten years, as it began in 1962 to lay the closing brick in 1971. The mausoleum is registered as an Islamic archaeology in accordance with Article 4 of the Antiquities Law of the League of Arab States at the Third Archaeology Conference held in Fez. It was also on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012. The idea of building the mausoleum was to commemorate the late King of Morocco, Mohammed V. The mausoleum contains the graves of the late Kings Mohammed V bin Yusuf and King Hassan II, who was buried at the mausoleum after his death in 1999, as well as the tomb of Prince Abdullah.

Chellah is a historic site located on the grounds of an ancient citadel, featuring Roman ruins and royal tombstones. The area covers about 3.5 km2 and includes the ruins of a walled Roman/Arab city, a medieval citadel overlooking the estuary, and the Ville Nouvelle developed under French Protectorate government. The site offers a glimpse into history with its ancient Roman and medieval ruins surrounded by lush gardens.
The Chellah is one of my most favorite places to take visitors. It's peaceful, full of history, and never crowded. I would highly recommend doing the audio tour and stopping for lunch at the Cafe inside.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A must-visit gem in Rabat! Cellah (Chellah) is one of the most fascinating and peaceful places I’ve ever visited in Morocco. The moment you enter through the grand gate, you’re surrounded by a mix of Roman and Islamic history that’s simply breathtaking. The ancient ruins, beautifully weathered walls, and ornate tombs tell countless stories of Rabat’s past. The gardens are lush and full of life storks nesting on the old minarets add a truly magical touch. It’s quiet, well-maintained, and perfect for those who want to slow down and take in the city’s heritage away from the crowds. The views from the site are also stunning, especially at sunset when the light hits the ruins. You can feel the layers of history here. Roman remains blending seamlessly with medieval Moroccan architecture. Whether you’re a history lover, a photographer, or simply someone who appreciates peaceful and authentic places, Cellah is an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Rabat!

A lovely historical city with Mauritanian, Roman, and a few other civilizations contributing to this place. The place has some Roman ruins, a very small museum, a mosque, some baths, a lovely garden, and residentials. The place also has a coffee shop, a restaurant, and a gifts shop. Tickets are bought at the entrance by cash or card. They have ample parking onsite. Timings of the place differ around the year. The restaurant onsite remains open until after the ancient city closes, and has a separate entrance. Expect to spend 1 hour exploring the place.

Absolutely loved this place. The mix of Roman ruins and later Moroccan architecture makes Chellah one of the most atmospheric sites in Rabat. My highlights were wandering through the crumbling walls covered in greenery, watching the storks nesting on top of old minarets, and hearing nothing but wind and birds. It feels calm and untouched, almost like stepping back in time. The gardens are beautiful, and the sense of history here is powerful with layers of civilizations in one spot. Bring comfortable shoes and visit in the late afternoon for soft light and fewer crowds. A must-see for anyone who enjoys ancient ruins and quiet, magical places.
