Chipiona's Lighthouse, completed in 1867, stands as the oldest and most prominent monument in the charming coastal town of Chipiona on the Costa de la Luz in Andalusia, Spain. The lighthouse is perched at Punta del Perro at the mouth of the river Gadalquivir and was constructed to caution ships away from a large rock known as Piedra de Salmedina.
Very fine edifice and easy to find. Climbing to the top needs prebooking so we didn't do it much to my relief as there must be eight or nine floors.

Most magnificent tall lighthouse in Spain…. It is very well maintained. Great urban location.

Pretty lighthouse, very picturesque. Nearby buildings are built touching the ocean with stairs into the water. Just 300 metres south there is an interesting church, also well worth a visit, so much so that visiting Madrilena enter.

At 62 m or 205 feet the lighthoise is the seventeenth tallest "traditional lighthouse" in the world but is not open on the inside for visitora.

I love just hanging out near this lighthouse. The area is gorgeous and lively. You can get amazing photos of this lighthouse pretty much anytime of the day. There are certain hours the lighthouse is open to the public and you can climb to the top. Nothing special but a beautiful view.
Mandy A — Google review
A great landmark when visiting Chipiona. There are tours where you can climb the internal stairs to the light at the top. The tours have to be reserved well in advance to secure a place as it's a working lighthouse that provides an important service to the ships and boats that operate in the area. So it's not focused on tourism. It was also the perfect vantage to see the Lunar eclipse.

The Palace of the Dukes of Medina Sidonia is a charming 16th-century palace converted into traditionally styled rooms, featuring a cafeteria and romantic gardens. Located in the city center with narrow streets dating back to Muslim times, it offers mild climate and access to beautiful beaches. The palace has an intriguing history, once home to the 7th Duke of Medina Sidonia and later the 21st Duchess who organized its vast archive.
A very charming hotel. Very little but with a lot of history. You'll feel that you're in a historic place where you can even visit their Historic Archive, which is the most important private archive in Europe

(Translated by Google) Nice experience carried out at the beginning of May. First we took a barge from Sanlúcar de Barrameda to Doñana. On the coast a 4x4 truck was waiting for us, whose driver took us to see the four great ecosystems of Doñana, commenting on their main characteristics. I was very disappointed with the marshes: totally dry and without birds. Finally, prior to a didactic talk about ancient ways of life in Doñana, we took a boat that took us on a ride along the river for approximately half an hour. It is an excursion that does not delve too deeply into the ecosystems, but is interesting for a general overview of the National Park.

(Translated by Google) They lack professionalism in the slightest. First of all, they don't keep to the schedule posted on the door, and they don't keep to it even though they're inside confirming the IMSERSO travel letters that their friends and favorite clients had left them days before. The rest of us who have been there since 7 a.m., in the cold, are left high and dry. Of course, I'll report this to the IMSERSO management. (Original) No tienen la más mínima profesionalidad. (Translated by Google) Staying in Jerez de la Frontera, I go to Sanlúcar de Barrameda (approx. 20 km), to the Viajes Doñana agency on Calle SAN Juan 20 after making a phone call to visit such a park. Once I have clarified what type of trip it was, cost, day, etc. I prepare to pay and they tell me that they can no longer make the trip. A timely call at that time from a group larger than mine seems to motivate the denial of my ticket. It is the first time this has happened to me and I am dedicated to the Service. Not only THAT but also apparently the manager of the agency on Calle SAN Juan tells me that they have many clients and that they do not need my presence, that they have to close and that I should leave the premises. Stunned and without saying a word I leave. It is the first time in Jerez that an establishment treats me this way. As he says, they have plenty of work... hope things go well in life, but I can collaborate with companies with this attitude. Very unprofessional and they practically threw me out on the street. I just wanted to buy a ticket and enjoy a nice day. I am about to look for another agency to be able to make this trip and it turns out that I find it more economical. 10 eu cheaper. That is to say, AGÈNCIA VIAJES DOÑANA costs 10 eu more than any other. Take note...No more trips to Doñana...

Bodegas Tradicion is a charming winery located in Jerez, specializing in sherry production. Despite being one of the younger bodegas in the area, it boasts some of the oldest and most exquisite sherries. The winery offers upscale tours where visitors can witness the aging process of their wines, including fino that is aged for at least eight years before release.
We had a wonderful visit followed by an even more wonderful Jerez tasting. Alejandro was our guide and took care of answering all of our many questions. It’s located in the heart of the city, which also makes it easy to go by foot (approximately 15minutes from the main plaza) which is very important if you are tasting alcohol. The place itself is amazing! Would recommend it 100%.
Maria M — Google review
We took a wonderful two-hour excursion through the bodega, including a sherry tasting accompanied by a visit of the private painting collection, which dates back to the 15th century. Alex (Alejandro) did a fantastic job explaining the various steps of sherry production. They also produce a wonderful brandy.
Gregor R — Google review
I really recommend the private tour suited to your needs. Not only did we learn about the fascinating history of the bodega and how sherries are made but we had the opportunity to have beyond an amazing tasting within the bodegas art gallery. I am sorry that i dont remember the name of our guide that was originally from Germany but she made the experience what it was and we are very grateful.
Omar A — Google review
We had an outstanding tour and tasting, here, and got to see the private art collection (the El Greco was our favorite). Alejandro was super informative, answering all our questions, and explaining the process the various sherries go through. They only sell VOS and VORS (20 and 30 year old) sherry, and are family run, so it has a unique and personal feel.
Chris S — Google review
Amazing tour of a smaller quality sherry production. I would recommend coming in with a little knowledge on sherry production or starting with a different tour if you're taking multiple, but would highly recommend this tour. The tapas plate and the small art gallery were also lovely touches. Save a little extra time for getting there. The path is a bit confusing and they keep the main gate locked, but it was not hard to get in and they were very helpful - just might be stressful if you're running behind!
Madison B — Google review
An excellent bodegas to visit. Pur guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. The wines were spectacular. They specialise in older sherries with real depth of flavour. We came across this bodegas by chance and we're so glad we did.

Again (why again? Because we visited that place first time 15 years ago :) ) very very good visit, interesting experience with testing the sherry, very good English speaking lady as guide giving detailed information about sherry production, come back to the painting gallery, thank you and see you next time

Bodega Tio Pepe is a renowned local wine and sherry producer located in the historic heart of Jerez. The bodega offers a range of guided tours and tastings, allowing visitors to explore its ancient whitewashed courtyards and quiet sherry cathedrals where wines age in barrels for years. From basic introductory tours to VIP experiences including vineyard visits and wine pairings, there's something for every enthusiast.
A great experience. Our guide was excellent and the tour was very educational. Well organised and plenty of time allowed for picture taking and questions. The tasting and tapas were perfect. Recommend going for the 4 wines and tapas option.

Great tour around the premies of Bodega Tio Pepe and the González Byass Sherry house. Started with a train ride around the park and buildings and then a guided tour in a lot of the historical buildings of the wine yard. We ended with a Sherry tasting with some small tapas. I recommend the large package to experience it all, it was so interesting. In the end you passing thru the gift shops with the full sherry assortment and more. I would definitely come back if I’m visiting Jerez again.
Thomas L — Google review
Our visit to Bodega Tio Pepe was an unforgettable experience! As soon as we stepped inside, we were enveloped by the rich aromas of aging wine and the sight of countless barrels lined up, each telling its own story. The sheer scale of the bodega was impressive, and it was fascinating to learn about the traditional process of sherry production. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, sharing insights about the history of Tio Pepe and the unique characteristics of their wines. Walking through the barrel room felt like stepping back in time, and we loved hearing about the craftsmanship that goes into each bottle. The highlight of the tour was definitely the tasting session. Sampling the different sherries was a treat, and we appreciated how the guide explained the nuances of each variety. The pairing with local tapas was a delightful touch, enhancing the flavors and creating a perfect pairing experience. Overall, our time at Bodega Tio Pepe was both educational and enjoyable. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it easy to relax and soak in the experience. I highly recommend this visit to anyone who enjoys wine or wants to learn more about sherry in a beautiful setting!

I don't understand why some people have given such negative reviews. I suspect they are just grumpy folk with a short fuse. Our couple of hours were great. Started off with a little train ride (actually bus pulling mini wagons, but still cute) around the grounds (a huge plot they own in the centre of town next to the cathedral) (I have given 4* instead of 5* as I would have preferred to stroll around the wonderfully ornate gardens on my own, at my own pace, but this isn't an option thus remove 1*). Then a little walking tour through the old factory and storage rooms. Our guide was gentle and informative. Ending up with the tasting of 4 different sherries. I would recommend the max tasting package. For the extra €5 you get two extra glasses of sherry, well worth it IMHO. All in all, a great way to get gently pickled and taste some great drinks.
Tony N — Google review
Didn't try any other Bodega Tours but maybe should have done a bit more research. Maybe it was our guide but didn't feel as though we learnt much about the why or how of Sherry production. Also thought the 'tapas' represented very poor value in a city of great Tapas. €100 for a family of 4 (obviously no Sherry for the kids) seemed a lot
Nicola M — Google review
A very interesting tour in a very impressive bodega steeped in history. We bought a tour and a tasting (with 4 wines, but no food package). Firstly, the good stuff: lots of history, lovely environment, very interesting tour guide who was clearly passionate about the history of Tio Pepe/GB. Now the not so good: As many reviews have pointed out, the tour groups are simply too big. You feel like cattle being shunted around. Whilst the bodega has lots of ambience, the tasting area feels like a laboratory! It's bright, even stark. Plain white tables and chairs. Everyone (and there is a mass of people) is pushed together. It feels very impersonal, more like a production line. If you don't order the food package, you get absolutely nothing with your sherry tasting. Not even a tiny packet of bread snacks. I thought that was pretty poor. Many people did order food, and from what I could see, it didn't look that great. There seemed to be quite a bit left on the serving plates as we left. Afterwards, we went to a nearby bar, full of ambience and locals, and had great tapas. So, all in all, a nice tour, but it could have been so much better. We are going to another tour tomorrow at a much smaller, less commercial bodega. My hopes are high and my fingers crossed...
Mike P — Google review
First off, we bought a tour that included sherry tasting and tapas. The tour was interesting and informative but Tio Pepe are capitalising on the tourist market and there were FAR too many people booked on the tours going on in parallel in different languages. Killing the goose that lays the golden egg is probably close to the truth. As many have said here, and I should have listened to them, the tapas option isn't worth bothering with. Better to have a meal in a good tapas place once you've finished the tour. In summary: informative & interesting, too many people booked in, sherry tasting - yep - gives you a different perspective on sherry, tapas - don't bother. Might want to try another bodegas that is less busy?
Paul O — Google review
The tours are excellent, friendly helpful guides. Suggest buying the 4 wine tasting as it's worth the money. Our guide was amazing, however to be 5 stars they could reduce tour sizes (30 per group) so they could attend to the tasting better and be a bit less rushed.

The Alcázar de Jerez de la Frontera is a Moorish castle complex that offers a glimpse into the city's rich history. The site houses Arab baths, a palace with a camera obscura, and a tower providing stunning views of the city. Visitors can explore the historic center of Jerez on guided tours, where they'll encounter remnants of Roman, Muslim, and Phoenician influences.
Fantastic alcazar with nice gardens, an old mosque/church, hamam baths and a reproduction of an ancient olive oil production machine. The cost of 5€ is nothing compared to the site itself. Definitely worth a visit!

An amazing building but a fascinating history right in the heart of Jerez. The building features both Christian and Islamic architecture reflecting the history of the area. You can go up the tower and walk some of the walks too. All in all exceedingly good value for €5 (concessions available-ask)
M K — Google review
Amazing old fortress to visit, a must do. We went on a Wednesday at 4.30pm, and did not have to wait to enter. This gave us 1.5 hours before closing time (last entry at 5.30pm) to view the complete complex (more than enough time). The tower and bathhouse are very interesting. It takes some effort to climb the staircase to the top of the octagonal tower, but well worth it.
Simon R — Google review
I found this a really interesting historical site covering the occupation of the area by both Islamic and Christian religions. I enjoyed the architecture and the way the fortress was designed to ensure survival by harvesting rainwater and a well for water from the local aquifer.
Ian W — Google review
Well worth the visit. Cheap entrance fee for the historical lesson. The building doesn't have too much on display, could host a lot more, seems empty other than an old pharmacy display, a few paintings and quite a lot of neat posters. The real deal here is the garden and the side buildings with their history and roles on display.
Balazs C — Google review
The place was very pleasant but the audio guide didn’t have matching signs so you have to guess a little bit were you were.

At first I wasn't sure, if I really want to go and miss the non rainy part of the day - I would do it all over! Loved it, especially the gardens! 🥰🥰

The Cathedral of Jerez de la Frontera, also known as Colegiata de Nuestro Señor San Salvador, is a Catholic church with a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Located in the Plaza del Arenal, this magnificent structure boasts a domed ceiling, an elaborate facade, and a detached bell tower that showcases both Gothic-Mudejar and Baroque architectural styles.
Absolutely beautiful building. Terrific tour at your own pace, listening in your own language to the guide as you move around the numbered points within the church itself and the attached buildings. We really enjoyed our visit and would recommend to everyone.
Judi R — Google review
Nice cathedral, with a lot of light and ample spaces. There's also a small treasure museum and a VR-experience included in the ticket, which is of 8€ per adult, in my opinion too much though, for what the cathedral has to offer.
Timur C — Google review
A very thorough and well-organized guide to the stunning Cathedral of Córdoba. It provides fascinating historical facts, clear architectural descriptions, and insightful details that enhance any visit. Perfect for both tourists and art enthusiasts. Have a great VR experience, but the schedules are a bit short, well overall it stands out for its quality and usefulness.

A must-see cathedral around Sevilla. I was amazed by its collection of silver holy items and thought this place was so underrated 🙃 I had no difficulties to find a place of parking nearby, after having enjoyed a local restaurant next to the Jerez cathedral, we headed to bell tower and entered the cathedral. There was not so crowded as it was a Tuesday, much more exciting than in weekends.
Linda K — Google review
Charge to go into church? Can't help thinking about the money lenders in the temple. Tourist attraction nat a church
Simon A — Google review
Visited the Cathedral of Jerez de la Frontera. Entry fee: 8 euros — greeted by the audio guide thanking me for my “generous donation.” The cathedral is beautiful, but really, that’s it. The audio guide goes on and on in epic detail for what is, frankly, a rather small site. Nearby palace costs 5 euros and offers much more for your money. I bailed after the “most beautiful” number — stunning, but my patience (and wallet) had limits. Architecture is impressive, yes. Price-performance ratio? Not even close. Go if you must, but bring your sense of humor… and a bigger wallet.
D ( — Google review
I bought 2 tickets for a guided tour of the Cathedral (not an audio-guide but an actual human guide) believing it to be in English, but it turned out to be in Spanish. This mistake was pointed out to me by the ladies at the ticket office, who first tried to rearrange the tour for another day and then, when that wasn’t possible because of our travel plans, arranged for an English-speaking colleague of theirs to come to the Cathedral and provide the tour. Alberto, who actually works at the nearby San Miguel church, arrived within 10 minutes and delivered a superb, informative tour that lasted over 2 hours. A history graduate and self-taught English speaker, Alberto provided an enormous amount of information and insight about the Cathedral and Jerez and, considering that the Cathedral doesn’t presently provide guided tours in English and that he had about 15 minutes notice, he did an amazing job. We have been fortunate enough to enjoy guided tours in Ronda, Granada and Cordoba and Alberto’s was by far the most enjoyable - he is an asset to the organisation that looks after the Jerez monuments, and we hope that guided tours in English become a regular part of their service offering; in Alberto they have an excellent guide. Many thanks also to the ladies at the Cathedral ticket office for their patience and resourcefulness in arranging our tour and turning a negative into a huge positive experience. This was one of our highlights so far of our 15 days travelling around Andalusia.

The interior is a treasure trove of ornate Baroque choir stalls, intricate vaulting, and a lavish Renaissance altarpiece.
Smaller church on top of the hill and took about 10-15min from the center of the town. Slippery roads when wet but with majestic view of the valley down below. Overall we like this white village but can the residents clean up their dog poops? These land mines were everywhere.

This was our third visit to Arcos de la Frontera and the first time the church was open and it did not disappoint with lots of beautiful artwork and a beautiful alter. Admission was just €2. This is a late Gothic hall-church, with three naves of equal height and a monumental curved apse. The naves are separated by circular pillars made of beamed rods, supporting complex star-ribbed vaults. Although everything inside is worthy of admiration, it is worth noting the Retablo Mayor, an altarpiece which is a true Renaissance jewel; the Gothic mural painting; the uncorrupted mummy of San Felix; the Nieves chapel which houses the image of the patron of Arcos; the extravagant organ and the choir, considered one of the best in Andalusia.

This basilica is a beautiful display of how rich this region used to be during the 14 - 17th century. Almost everything here is made of gold. And the scale of the carvings and central display is huge. Additionally, the viewing tower is a definite must to see and hear. There are many bells on the top that sing every hour. And the views of the area can be captured here on the tower. Overall, this is a must visit when in Arcos.

Impressive church from out and inn. And the church bell tower is worth special attention. It is worth to climb 100 steps for breathtaking views of the town and surroundings. One of the best tower views you can find in Spain!

Beautiful basilica on top of the hill! Beautiful small white hill town of Arcos 1hr fr Seville. Love the hill town, the food (payoya cheese and conejo) and the scenery ( Parador, Basilica, white houses view of the Guadalete river)
Dexter C — Google review
This largely Gothic styled church was built around the 15th century. It sits atop the limestone cliffs of Arcos on Plaza del Cabildo - a square which is essentially a carpark and also the location of the Parador de Turismo. You'll be rewarded with some great views overlooking the countryside from the mirador or visit the bar in the Parador for an even better view and a refreshing drink after the steep climb to get here. If you're mobility restricted there is a small car park here and also taxis (probably the best option as the street are very narrow in places).

We had a wonderful experience in Prado del Rey with Academia Pradoventura! My kids and I took classes; we had our own teachers who collaborated to have some shared class time together which was a lot of fun. Anja also helped us arrange for the kids to be in local summer camps which they really enjoyed and was a great experience for not only language but also cultural immersion. The town is beautiful with a lot to explore in the area. There is very little English spoken in Prado del Rey which makes for an excellent learning environment! We stayed in the Casa Rural (independent stay) at Hotel del Carmen and had a wonderful experience there as well. I would recommend renting a car to be able to explore the area!

I have done several immersion programs and the peaceful village setting close to the mountains was one of the many special parts of this group. There were multiple class levels depending on speaking and writing and the teachers really cared and the couple who runs the program are fantastic and kind people!!!! I wish there were more levels for hiking (many expressed this desire) and that our teachers or other Spanish speakers were on our excursions so that we could really speak Spanish outside of class. I loved all the Germans I met on this program but because the teachers also speak German, this ended up being a default language during activities. It would be wise for them to spend more money to get the teachers or other locals to join us and speak more Spanish. Next time I come (and I hope there is one!), I would stay in an independent house or apartment instead of a family but that's just me! I highly recommend this program!

Thanks to Anja for being flexible to arrange a two half day Spanish course for two of us on our arrival into Spain. It was a great way to start our Spanish experience. Thanks to Maribel our teacher for her patience and encouragement. It gave us confidence to speak a little Spanish and at least try when ordering food etc. she also gave us some great tips on food to try in the places we were visiting and told us about some of the nuances of the Spanish culture. It was a great start to our holiday and added to our experience. Prado del Rey felt like the authentic Spain compared to some of the touristy cities on our travels. Thanks again Anja and Maribel

I spent two weeks studying at Academia Pradoventura in October. The course was a combination of language school for the morning and hiking in the afternoon. It was so amazing and I could not possibly put into words how grateful I am to have had this opportunity. The staff and owners were so kind and helpful and made my stay so very enjoyable. The town and its people were lovely and it made it a great destination off the regular tourist track. There are always little things that I could critique but I try to remember that life is not perfect and sometimes you need to adjust and accept things as they are. If I could give any insite to someone thinking of doing this course, it would be to remember that things move at the pace of a group. This means that sometimes the hikes move slowly, or sometimes the class moves fast. Accept that you are a part of a group and just enjoy it. My language skills and comfort level drastically improved in only two weeks. Huge thanks to my teacher Maribel. She had an amazing energy and made me feel comfortable even when I was struggling. Thank you Maribel!! At school I made friends and enjoyed many evenings with them. Living, shopping and just being part of this town also had such an impact. If you are considering this school, sign up. It is worth it. Big love to Anja and José Luis.

I just completed a two-week intense Spanish language course with Academia Pradoventura. It was simply outstanding, and just what I was looking for. I approached several language schools in the Cádiz province to see what they could offer to improve my Spanish. In my case my spoken language and comprehension were already good, but my grammar needed work. Academia Pradoventura were the only school that offered to tailor a class to my needs. As there was no specific course running that week, they provided a skilled teacher to give me personalised lessons. I would like to thank my teacher Mari Carmen for the dedication and planning that went into my classes, and all the energy and enthusiasm with which she delivered them. A big thanks also to Anja and José Luis who run the academy, such friendly and helpful people. I look forward to stopping by to say Hola again soon.

We had such a great experience with Academia Pradoventura in July, 2024. I brought my 7yo daughter to Prado del Rey for two weeks and we were joined by one set of friends the first week and another set of friends the second week, for a total of four girls, ranging in age from 6 to 10yo, participating in the town's summer camp "Ludoteca" in the mornings, and taking afternoon classes at the Academia. Anja was incredibly helpful and accommodating throughout our stay, helping us find cool activities to take advantage of in the surrounding area, and making sure the language classes were appropriately leveled for each girl's varied Spanish knowledge and experience. The girls LOVED their teachers - we've been home for three weeks and they're still talking about how nice they were. Classes were fun and useful. First they would work in class on some new vocabulary or task, sometimes they'd watch a little video clip and narrate what they saw, and then they'd go for a walk through the town to put their knowledge to use, buying fruit at the frutería or describing what outfits people were wearing at the park. Overall, we were very happy with this experience and would definitely recommend to others!

The team at this Spanish language school - led by José Luis & Anja - went out of their way to make sure we had a successful stay. Classes are small and being in a typical Andalucían village means the experience is immersive and intimate. Our children also had classes here with a dedicated teacher, which included visits to the local square, park and outdoor cinema. Pradoventura also arranged walks in the beautiful hills around Prado del Rey, and a visit to a local bodega and other local producers. Recommended if you want an authentic, immersive Spanish language experience in a stunning rural setting.

Fabulous on all levels! Anja and José Luis are wonderful, fun, and energetic hosts! The classes - taught by fun and knowledgeable teachers - are small and personal. The varied afternoon activities (hiking, olive oil tasting, wine tasting, and flamenco dancing) allow a gimps into local history, culture, and nature - while learning and practicing more even more Spanish.

We did this hiking walk from El Bosque Town to Benamahoma. The entrance was not well signposted on the El Bosque town side if you are a tourist in the area, but we asked 2 local ladies who gave us ample instructions. This is a walk that you must not miss if you are in the area. The nearer you got to Benamahoma, the more beautiful the river became. The walk is fairly simple, although some areas might be more tricky if you have mobility issues. It was supposed to take about 2 hours at a comfortable pace, but we stopped several times to admire the areas and the beautiful birds. On reaching Benamahoma, there are public toilets very clean and well kept. Restrictions in the area are no swimming in the river or putting up picnic chairs, etc.

Beautiful track, really worth it! You can walk in a circle, when you reach the botanical garden be careful not to walk down, there is a sign that you have to go down, but that’s directing you to a local bar. The gardens are closing @1500.

We loved this short route. We did it by road bikes (bad idea, we had to carry them most of the way) but it's a medium difficult path on foot. And the possibility of cooling yourself in the brook is exceptional! Just please take your garbage with you!

Awesome trail along the stream (officially a river) from Benamahoma to El Bosque, about 10 km round trip. The trail is shaded along much of it's route which helps keep it cool even on a hot day (is was 30+ degrees when we walked it but with the shade it was fine). There are some rocky sections and stone stairs so you need to be in reasonable shape but in general an easy trail.

The park is part of an area that includes various notable landmarks such as the Giralda, the Cathedral, Reales Alcazares, Torre del Oro, Plaza de España, and more. It's a must-visit destination in Seville and provides a comprehensive insight into the essence of the city.
Beautiful park right next to the Plaza de España. We went there for a quiet stroll after visiting the Plaza de España. In the park you can find shade, made beautiful trees, plants and a wide variety of animals. We also enjoyed the art in the park and the quiet sounds of the trees, the bushes and the animals. The world famous Plaza de Espana is residing inside the Maria Luisa Park. After watching so many beautiful pictures of this place, I finally made it to get there this past July. Though the weather was scorching hot at >95F during the summer, it was still rewarding to visit this magnificent place. The Plaza was built around 1928 to show case Spanish heritages and history. Thus you can find sections of the regions decorted by colorful ceramic tiles to illustrate their cultures. The plaza has a built-in small canal for boating. But it was closed at the time when an outdoors concert was set up, incidently, the concert stage also consumed most of the plaza real estate. But that did not stop the daily activities at the plaza. A group of artists performed the Flamenco dance in the square, which really highlighted the Spaniards' passion. I was told the dance was originated in Seville. And Seville used to be the center of Spain before Madrid became the Capital. The are plenty of suveniors to buy at the square. The most popular one is probably the castanet after watching the Flemenco dance. Highly recommend this place if you visit Sevelli.

🌿 Review: Parque de María Luisa – Seville, Spain An extraordinary place! Parque de María Luisa is one of the most beautiful and spacious parks in Seville. Located just steps away from the iconic Plaza de España, it’s the perfect spot to fully enjoy the outdoors. The park has a wonderful atmosphere — parts of it feel peaceful and romantic, ideal for a quiet walk or a date, while other areas are perfect for children and families. Whether you’re going alone, with a partner, or with a group, there’s something for everyone. As someone from Argentina, I brought my mate and had an absolutely amazing time. It’s a great place to sit under the trees, relax, have a picnic or some tea, and just enjoy the surroundings. The public restrooms are clean and well maintained. Dogs are welcome, and there are open areas where people can relax or play — including picnic zones, which I loved. 🟢 Highly recommended! Definitely one of my favorite parks in Seville. A must-visit if you’re in the city.

This beautiful park is an absolute oasis in the heart of Seville, offering a truly peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle. I spent hours simply strolling through the lush gardens, marveling at the vibrant greenery and the intricate tilework. Every corner reveals another picturesque scene, from the grand Plaza de España, with its stunning architecture, to the quieter, more tranquil ponds and fountains. It's incredibly spacious, so even on a busy day, you can always find a serene spot to relax and soak in the atmosphere. This is undeniably a must-visit for anyone coming to Seville; you'll leave feeling refreshed and invigorated. The sheer scale and beauty make it highly recommended for anyone seeking a blend of natural beauty and historic charm. It's a testament to the city's dedication to preserving its iconic green spaces, truly a breathtaking experience.

Lovely park with beautiful plants, lots of animals and a bunch of interesting sights. Perfect for both a walk and also just to chill due to several benches where you can relax in the shadow. Cicadas can be a bit loud depending on the season and the horse carriages leave behind their dumps everywhere, leading to bad smell at some areas.

Stuart C — Google review
The Parque de María Luisa is far more than a city park; it is a sprawling, 34-hectare historical landmark that perfectly captures the romantic and decorative spirit of Seville. Originally the private gardens of the Palace of San Telmo, the land was donated to the city by Princess María Luisa Fernanda de Borbón in 1893. It was completely redesigned by French landscape architect Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier in preparation for the great Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, transforming it into the enchanting "Moorish paradisiacal style" masterpiece you see today. The park is a vital escape from the Andalusian heat, offering lush, shaded pathways, ornamental ponds, and incredible architecture. Architectural and Historical Highlights The park serves as a green buffer connecting the historic centre with the grand pavilions of the 1929 Exposition, many of which remain as museums today. 1. Plaza de España (The Crown Jewel) • Style: Neo-Mudéjar and Renaissance Revival. • Description: This immense, semi-circular building is the park's centerpiece. It features a navigable moat (where you can rent row boats), four ornate bridges, and beautiful arcades. Its most famous feature is the continuous wall of tiled alcoves, with each one dedicated to a different province of Spain, displaying historical scenes and a seating bench. It is a mandatory photo opportunity and often cited as one of Spain's most magnificent architectural achievements. 2. Plaza de América (The Dove Park) • Description: Located at the southern end of the park, this square is a beautiful, formal garden setting surrounded by three major buildings from the Expo: • Pabellón Mudéjar: Now houses the Museum of Arts and Popular Customs (Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares). • Pabellón Real: A smaller, richly decorated building. • Pabellón de Bellas Artes: Now the Archaeological Museum (Museo Arqueológico). Fountains, Statues, and Gardens Forestier’s design created a truly romantic atmosphere, blending geometric Moorish layouts with European romanticism. • Fountain of the Lions (Fuente de los Leones): An octagonal fountain featuring four sculpted lions spitting water, decorated with colorful azulejo tiles. • Glorieta de Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer: A moving monument dedicated to the famous Spanish Romantic poet, featuring a massive cypress tree and marble statues representing three aspects of love: that which arrives, that which is possessed, and that which is lost. • Mount Gurugú (Monte Gurugú): An artificial hill with a waterfall and a small gazebo at the top, offering pleasant views over the surrounding landscape. • Flora: The park is also a botanical garden, featuring palms, orange trees, pines, and vibrant flower beds, creating cool, shaded pathways for strolling. Visitor Tips and Activities • Admission: Entry to the Parque de María Luisa is free for all visitors. You only pay if you enter the museums or rent a boat/bike. • Getting Around: The park is large (34 hectares). You can rent pedal quad bikes (ideal for families) or standard bicycles to cover more ground quickly. • Best Time to Visit: Go early in the morning for the most peaceful experience and to enjoy the cool air before the midday heat. The park is open late in the summer (usually until midnight). • Nearby: The park is right next to the Guadalquivir River, and the Real Alcázar de Sevilla and the Cathedral are within a 15-minute walk, making it easy to combine them into a single itinerary. Conclusion Parque de María Luisa is a quintessential Sevillian experience. It's the perfect place to pause between historical sights, enjoy the exuberant Andalusian architecture, and appreciate the city's unique cultural fusion. If you loved the Mudéjar style of the Real Alcázar, you will adore the architectural detail and expansive beauty of this park.

What can i say, stunning place, looks like heaven. The azulejos, the towers, the horses, the bridges with boats under, everything perfect. Is a masterpiece that everyone must visit. In there you will find various street artists and see some flamenco as well. This place is better than what you see in the photos, it gives a vibe and freedom feeling.

The amounts spent on these construction projects are just mind-blowing. And when you remember how many people lost their health or even died there, it gets uncomfortable. 1. Tourists today admire the marble, the gold, the columns—but for someone, all this cost a life. Nobody remembers the names of the workers, though nothing would exist without them. 2. Sometimes I look at these buildings and think: was all this beauty really worth those sacrifices? For some, it’s a symbol of the nation, but for others, it’s years and strength lost. Honestly, I’m always a bit envious of the architects of that time—to plan something on this scale takes real talent. But at the same time, I feel for those who paid for this “eternity” with their health. I can’t feel just one way about it. The architecture is impressive, but the price was enormous. Sometimes you look at a cathedral and realize there’s a heavy shadow behind all that beauty. What about you? Can you just admire places like these, or do you also think about the price?

Sept 2025. Wow! Time was lost as soon as we arrived. Spent a good part of the day just cruising around this gorgeous place and beautiful parks surrounding it. Was easy to walk around, not hoards of tourists (even though i was one haha). The water and bright green flora just popped colour against the majestic architectural marvel that commands its prescence in a humongous semicircle. There are 52 mosaics with tiles representing each province (i didnt count them to check ok). The beautiful Vicente Traver Fountain is in the centre with bridges crossing the canal, good photo opportunities!! It was also a back drop for Star Wars II. Cool. Rent a boat and bob around the small canals for something a bit different, you may spot some fish swimming happily underneath and ducks nurturing their babies, cute as. Part of the building is used by government institutions too. There were some VERY talented musicians playing underneath/amongst the super grand stairways leading up to some great viewpoints. And when you're done with all the beauty of this place, you can check out a couple of stalls out the front, then walk and embark on another adventure, the grand parks and grounds surrounding this place emersed with its own history and beauty. Great place for fitness and many people running, cycling, walking and chilling. My advice, don't skip this place, its a feast for the soul ;)

Visited Plaza de España in Seville early in the morning in October 2025 to beat the crowds. Built in the 1920s, it features stunning semi-circular architecture blending Spanish Renaissance and Moorish styles, with colorful tiles, fountains, canals, and ornate bridges—truly a photogenic and iconic landmark. When we visited, the canal was dry, but when filled, visitors can row boats along the curved canal for a unique view of the bridges and colonnades. Horse-drawn carriage rides around the plaza and nearby Parque de María Luisa offer a classic, leisurely way to explore the area. We also saw a couple of locals selling souvenirs on the ground. The Plaza de España is one of the most beautiful squares I have ever seen. The majestic central palace blends seamlessly with the serene water canal, creating a truly breathtaking scene. In front of the square, there is a charming garden that adds even more to the beauty of the place. Casa de Pilatos is a stunning palace located at no 1, Plaza de Pilatos, dating back to the fifteenth century. It was created through the union of two noble families and reflects their love for Renaissance art. The palace features internal courtyards adorned with Greek and Roman statues, as well as an impressive collection of artworks. Over time, it underwent comprehensive remodeling that incorporated Romantic elements and features.
This is a less known site however worth visiting. It has beautifully preserved palace blending various styles including Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Beautiful courtyards filled with delicate art and various statues. A lot to see and we were not able to see the upstairs residence rooms. Has a nice garden and a lot of corners to take photos.

Great place with fabolous architecture. If you're visiting Sevilla it's worth checking in out. We went there on a Friday and there weren't many people. There's an option to book a tour for the upper floor which I can recommend. The tour was only provided in Spanish, however the guide was very friendly and explained some things in English as well. He made the tour fun and interactive which was great. There is also a free audio guide which can be accessed by scanning the QR code received at the entrance. The rooms are numbered so it's clear which audio to play. Overall it was a great experience.

I dont know why this place has a low rate at reviews but in my opinion this place is stunning. There you can clearly see the mixture of cultures, the rooms with arabic culture and azulejos are soooo beautiful. The gardens also so beautiful. I bought only the first floor and i think its enough to take the essence of the place. I bought the tickets two days before arriving and found them in the official site.

It is somehow difficult to recommend, but at the same time it is also an interesting building. First and foremost, the mosaics on the building are beautiful, and the mix of architectural styles from different regions and periods is very interesting. However, many areas are deteriorated and in need of restoration. Some rooms are open to the public, but serve more as storage than anything (building materials, a random bike here, a bunch of columns stappled on the floor there). The audio guides are interesting but not adequate. The audio guides have a bunch of very detailed (perhaps too detailed) information, but they are too long. After the third audio you loose interest. I would recommend to shorten the audio guides to the most relevant aspects of each area, and complement with text on boards or posters on each room. I stopped hearing after the fourth audio. The bathrooms are dirty and not an enjoyable experience. The area of the palace is also relatively small. Therefore, compared to the Alcázar, 12€ per person is on the expensive side (18 if you want to access the second floor), even more considering the state of the edification.

Excellent condition and educational as well! This was one of our stops as part of a Globus tour group. We really liked hearing about this history, background and uses of the rooms within the structure. It’s also nice to see original as well as restored architecture within.
Rob H — Google review
Beautiful palace with Mudejar, Renaissance and Gothic architecture coming together in blissful harmony. Very pretty peaceful courtyard garden to sit in and while away an hour. Definitely worthwhile a visit and considerably quieter than the much larger Real Alcazar. We came on a Thursday and just bought tickets at the entrance.
Satnam S — Google review
The ground floor is relatively interesting (it still requires work and maintenance as there were lots of missing or broken tiles in certain places), but to ask 12 euro is way too much for what you actually get. Without the audioguide you can take a few pictures and see everything in 10 minutes.

The Roman Necropolis of Carmona is a significant archaeological site that reflects the town's rich history and cultural influences from various civilizations. It dates back to ancient times and showcases well-preserved tombs, including the Tomb of Servilia and the Tomb of the Elephant. Situated on a hill overlooking the surrounding area, this expansive site offers visitors an opportunity to explore its historical significance through interpretation boards and an introduction video available in multiple languages.
This is the most amazing Roman necropolis and really worth a visit. Apparently the mother of Brutus who stabbed Julius Caesar is buried here. Maybe.

I loved the visit. You can ask for an introduction video of 20 minutes in your native language (at least English and French). The site shows pictures and explanation that throw you back in time.

The Alcázar de la Puerta de Sevilla in Carmona is a historical site that showcases remains of defensive walls, gates, and palace structures built by various rulers throughout history. The fortress, which was restored in the 14th and 15th centuries and later in the 1970s, now houses the Carmona Tourist Information Office.
Fun locale for viewing the town. Gorgeous on a sunny autumn afternoon 👍🏽

A town full of history. The castle was the best choice to visit, amazing view over the city.

Great place to visit if you want to understand the city better. This fortress was first built way before roman times. You can clearly see the roman ruins and the ruins of the Arabic period, but the first layer of stones is from the Carthaginian period. The folder gives you a lot of explanation, as well as the texts you can find in one of the rooms. Audio is only in Spanish. Booking required for guided visits.

One of the oldest towns in europe. Great side trip from Seville. The parking is reasonable, with no entrance fee for the old walled city. There are several museums and churches to visit. A very laid back yet intersting place.

Wonderful architecture, a vast palace with several big gardens full of history. Be aware that, because of COVID19, you can only buy tickets online with credit card (code generator machine needed), so if you are coming from an outside country buy the tickets in advance.

On part of the old fortress walls in Carmona. Still majestic though only a small part of it remains. A great place to take photos or climb to the top to see the surrounding area.

Castillo Almodovar del Rio is a prominent 8th-century castle that offers guided tours and hosts frequent medieval-themed activities and events. The castle provides beautiful views of the countryside from its battlements, offering an immersive experience in history. Visitors can explore the historic information available in multiple languages. Accessible by car or a scenic hike, the castle stands on a hill overlooking a charming village.
The best castle in the area. From outside (the walls and towers) and from inside, the rooms, everything was over our expectations, well maintained. Also one of the filming locations of Game of Thrones. The feeling when we visit the castle was like we teleport back 200 years ago.
Legend C — Google review
If you get to Cordoba, put a visit to Almodovar Castle on your list. It rises majestically on the top of the mountain and guards the surroundings. It has enough parking spaces, both below and above, at the entrance. There is no need to buy tickets in advance. You learn the history of the castle and its legends as soon as you step inside, in the rooms where short films about it are shown. The castle is in very good condition because it has been renovated. There are also activities for children available in the inner courtyard. The fact that scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed there makes it even more special.

10 eur to enter, which is a good value. Spectacular views, good history lesson of the building and you also get a free workout if you climb all of the towers. We opted for no audio guide - still a 1.5 hour visit. Got surprisingly busy around noon, but then most local visitors left. Well worth the trip if you are in Córdoba.
Balazs C — Google review
Amazing visit, but prepare your transport before. Would recommend! Beautiful views of the surroundings, this Islamic castle was restored in tbe 20th century. Game of Thrones fans will appreciate the locations where some scenes were shot. Accessing via bus is VERY complex however - check the hours on the official Andalusian transports website beforehand, and make sure you check the correct days, as it changes a lot depending on weekends etc. We ended up taking a taxi for the round trip.
Jean G — Google review
An absolutely stunning castle set high above the valley — the views alone are worth the trip. The restoration is impressive and lets you wander the towers, ramparts and courtyards in what feels like a living piece of history. We arrived mid‑week and found it pleasantly quiet, which made the experience even more memorable. A must‑visit if you’re in the area, especially for fans of medieval architecture or cinematic history (yes, the castle was used in filming). One tip: wear comfortable shoes — there are quite a few stairs and uneven surfaces. Highly recommend to visit 👌🏼
Yarmali O — Google review
We visited the Castillo de Almodóvar, just outside of Córdoba, and really enjoyed it. The castle is extremely well taken care of—beautiful, clean, and full of interesting spots to explore. It sits high above the valley, so the views alone are worth the visit. A note for anyone with mobility issues: there are steep areas, stairs, and uneven paths. If you park at the bottom, you can pay for a bus that takes you up. We chose to walk up and back down the hill, and it was totally fine, but it is a bit of a climb. Overall, a great stop—very scenic, well-preserved, and fun to explore.

Highly recommend to visit. The real feel of medieval castle with lots of visual effects to tell you the story. Tips: check the bus schedule before heading there it's not quite frequent Take water and snack there's not any restaurant or supermarket nearby. And Enjoy.

An excellent tour full of great explanations of how they create their exquisite wines. You can ask to have a tour in English or Spanish but some staff also speak French and other languages as well. We were made to feel very welcome and at the end we sampled three beautiful wines. The prices in the shop were also very reasonable. This is a must visit if you are in the area. The only thing I would suggest is that the parking is very difficult to find on the street.

Dropped in hoping to taste a few wines and wanted to leave a review after our 5* experience. The shop was busy when we arrived but the lady who gave us the tasting took her time and was so passionate and knowledgeable, she truly made the experience memorable, thank you so much. Each wine we tasted was unique and delicious, so good we took 5 bottles back with us. Thank you very much!
David F — Google review
This winery is exceptional for unique wine producing process, wine testing and affordable great wine options but prepare to pay exorbitant amount on shipping if you can't carry it with you back to the US, it is not them but just the cost to ship wine. It will make the cost similar to what you would find in the US. However, you will get a great selection. This is a unique, continuous fermenting process, and it will be explained during the tour. some of the American oak barrels are over 100 years old, and since it is a continuous fermenting process, every wine out of these barrels will have the DNA of wine from the beginning in every bottle sold. I love sweet wine, but this wine (they are calling it a type of sherry) have the sweetness like syrup. It is definitely a dessert, sauce, or dressing type wine. I haven't seen or tasted any like it. And it is true that this family is related to the Alvear of Argentina. Fascinating. We later dined at the nearby Restaurante Las Camachas, where they used the wine from this winery to prepare some of their dishes. It was on our dessert.

I did the basic tour (in Spanish, €7) and it was an excellent introduction to the wine of Montilla. The guide was knowledgeable and gave an interesting history both of the production and the Bodega itself. At the end we tried 3 types of wine with olives and bread. The tour is offered in Spanish, English and in French and costs €7,€11 or €14 depending on what aperitifs you wish to accompany the wine.

We had a wine tour and tasting at Alvear winery in Montilla for our family, children and adults. Our guide, Noella , spoke perfect English and was extremely knowledgeable. The Alcazar of the Christian Monarchs, also known as Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, is a medieval palace-fortress in Cordoba, Spain. Built in the 1300s on the site of an old Muslim Caliphate palace, it features Mudéjar-style architecture, terraced gardens, Roman mosaics, and Gothic towers offering panoramic views.
Visited yesterday and found out entry is free on Thursdays after 6PM — such a win! ✨ We were so happy to catch that. Despite reading some mixed reviews about the renovation, it’s 100% worth visiting. It was our second time, and the place still has that unique energy — calm, historic, and full of life. The gardens are next-level beautiful 🌸 — especially in spring. Colors are glowing, everything feels alive, and you just leave feeling refreshed and optimistic. A perfect mix of history, culture, and nature. Definitely a spot to slow down and soak it all in. 🌿

Fabulous Alcazar Delightful visit for the family, we enjoyed wandering around these beautiful historical gardens. The gardens & fountains are absolutely beautiful and look very grand. We also like seeing the ruins and the inside of the building. This is certainly one of the must see places in Cordoba.
Paul V — Google review
The Alcázar is a fortress-palace that reflects the layers of Córdoba’s history—from Roman and Visigothic to Islamic and Christian times. The current structure was extensively rebuilt in the 14th century under Alfonso XI, later serving as a residence of the Catholic Monarchs, and even as the seat of the Inquisition and a city prison. Four towers mark its corners, giving the fortress its distinctive silhouette. Inside, the Mudéjar-style Patio de Crucero features geometric water channels, fountains, and ancient remains. The gardens, lined with palms, cypresses, and orange trees, with long pools and fountains, offer one of Córdoba’s most beautiful walks. ※ Included in the Bono conjunto monumentos Córdoba

It is a very amazing and beautiful place. You are able to explore the ruins of the alcazar where you are able to climb the tower and get a gorgeous view of the gardens and the city. Speaking of the gardens, they are magnificent and gorgeous. They are a must-see if you are passing by or just enjoy a gorgeous garden. It normally isn’t too crowded so it’s a perfect place to visit when you have free time.

There is still a lot in construction/restauration, but it's worth the visit. There are various tickets prices based on age, student status etc... The view from the towers is great as well as the gardens. The mosaic rooms is simple but takes you back in time somehow. Loved it except for this undergoing works.

Historical & Legendary bridge in Cordoba If you are a history buff like me then this is a must do for you. I do not recall being able to walk on a bridge dating back from the roman period that is so well preserved anywhere else in Europe. This is obviously renovated a few times, but still the structure itself remain from the Romans times. This is a beautiful and fantastic experience, it is a historic bridge with fabulous & stunning views of the Mezquita and the river. Absolute must do!

The Roman bridge is really great. You get a really good view of the walled city of Cordoba. Nice views. The Guadalquivir River passed under the bridge. This river was named by the Moors and it is Wadi Al Quivir which means the great river. It was the longest navigable river in Spain through history and was navegable all the way to Cordoba. Since it has been dammed at a few places and many cities and communities take water from the river. It is still navegable from Seville to Cadiz, but not upriver from Seville.

Sights & Landmarks
The Mosque-Cathedral Monumental Site of Córdoba is a stunning blend of Moorish, Christian, and Arab architectural styles. This historic building showcases the city's rich cultural and religious heritage. It was originally an Islamic mosque dating back to 780 AD before being converted into a Catholic cathedral in the 1230s. The site attracts over 1.5 million visitors annually who are captivated by its ornate hall of arched pillars and basilica adorned with frescos.
Amazing attraction in this historic town... We were a part of a day trip from Seville. This place has a history that goes back to Romans from early first millennium through to Islamic influence from 8th century finally culminating in Christian influence reflected on the Gothic style from the 16th century. The hugely experienced local guide, Fernando took us through the finer details of each architectural style, which is still preserved in this wonderful structure, which is still a functioning cathedral. The evolution of this building is a reflection of the history of southern Spain, including Seville & Granada, especially Cordoba. The whole area outside the cathedral has so many different pieces of history attached to it. Overall, it was an amazing experience.

Visiting the Mezquita of Córdoba is truly an unforgettable experience. The moment you step inside, you’re surrounded by its iconic forest of red-and-white arches, dim lights, and a sense of history that feels almost magical. The mix of Moorish and Christian architecture is stunning and unlike anything else in the world. The building is very well preserved, impressive in size, and easy to explore at your own pace. Every corner has something unique to appreciate—from the intricate details in the mihrab to the grandeur of the cathedral built at the center. I highly recommend getting there early to avoid crowds and to really take in the peaceful atmosphere. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or simply beautiful places, the Mezquita is a must-see and one of the highlights of Córdoba.
Cecilia H — Google review
The Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba stands as one of the world’s most significant architectural and religious landmarks, symbolizing the profound encounter between civilizations and the passage of time. Built on the former site of the Visigothic Basilica of San Vicente in the 6th century, it was transformed into the Great Umayyad Mosque of al-Andalus and later, in 1236 AD, converted into a Christian cathedral. Today, it serves not only as a place of worship but also as a living museum — a dialogue in stone between Islamic and Christian art. ⸻ Historical Timeline • Mid-6th century: Construction of the Visigothic Basilica of San Vicente. • 785 AD: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān I began the first phase of the Great Mosque. • 9th–10th centuries: Major expansions by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān II, al-Ḥakam II, and al-Mansūr, giving the monument its vast proportions. • 1236 AD: Following the Christian reconquest of Córdoba, the mosque was consecrated as the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption. • 16th century onward: Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque additions — notably the transept and the bell tower. • 1984: Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. • 2014: Recognized as a Site of Outstanding Universal Value. ⸻ Key Architectural Elements • Double Arches and the “Forest of Columns”: The prayer hall features hundreds of marble and granite columns reused from ancient Roman and Visigothic structures. Each supports a superimposed double arch — a horseshoe below and a semicircular above — painted in alternating red and white bands, creating a mesmerizing sense of rhythm and depth. • The Mihrab: Added under Caliph al-Ḥakam II, the mihrab (prayer niche) is a masterpiece of Byzantine mosaics, forming one of the most exquisite examples of Islamic decorative art. • The Orange-Tree Courtyard (Patio de los Naranjos): Once the mosque’s ablution courtyard, it later became a Christian patio filled with orange, palm, and cypress trees — an oasis blending nature with spirituality. • The Bell Tower (Torre Campanario): Built atop the original minaret of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān III, it dominates Córdoba’s skyline, symbolizing the transformation from muezzin call to church bells. • The Transept and Choir: Inserted in the 16th century, these Christian additions introduced Gothic vaults and Renaissance ornamentation, creating an extraordinary spatial dialogue between the two faiths’ architectural languages. ⸻ Cultural and Architectural Analysis The Mosque–Cathedral is an unparalleled palimpsest of cultures. Each layer — Islamic, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque — adds a new voice to the narrative of coexistence, conflict, and continuity. Architecturally, its recycled ancient columns and preserved Islamic layout reveal both reverence for and adaptation of the past. Culturally, it demonstrates how sacred spaces evolve without losing their spiritual essence: from a Visigothic church to an Umayyad mosque to a Christian cathedral, yet always a place of contemplation and beauty. ⸻ What Makes It Unique • Temporal depth: Over 1,200 years of continuous transformation. • Architectural fusion: Roman columns, Islamic arches, Byzantine mosaics, Gothic vaults, and Baroque altars coexisting in harmony. • Atmosphere: The endless repetition of arches evokes infinity, inviting reflection and awe. • Urban symbolism: Located in the heart of historic Córdoba, it anchors the city’s identity. • Universal value: Celebrated globally as a living embodiment of the alliance between faith and art.

The Mezquita Cathedral of Córdoba is one of the most breathtaking places I have ever visited. The mix of Islamic and Christian history makes it feel like you are walking through two worlds at once. The original mosque was built in the eighth century under the Umayyad rulers of Al Andalus, and the famous forest of red and white arches still stands as one of the most beautiful examples of Islamic architecture in Europe. When the cathedral was added in the sixteenth century, the structure changed but the soul of the building remained, creating a space that feels truly unique. I booked my ticket about two weeks in advance. They were still pretty open by then, but most people told me to book ahead, so make sure you do the same. The time slot is not strict. My ticket was for 12 pm, but I arrived at 1 pm. The staff member gave me a disappointed look that made me laugh, but he still let me in without any problem. The entire experience was unforgettable. The architecture, the history, and the quiet beauty inside make it a must visit. I would one hundred percent recommend coming here.
Abu A — Google review
Breathtaking historical site. The building is absolutely beautiful inside and out. Admission also includes several churches around town, and the 13 euro price is very reasonable. It is fairly dark inside, but you are still able to see the most important areas. Buy your tickets ahead of time as this is a popular destination!

The Mosque-Cathedral is by far one of the most unique places I have ever been to. The construction commenced in the 700’s and extended until recently, it contains a mixture of cultures, beliefs, and architectural elements. It’s breathtaking! I suggest the purchase of tickets online to avoid additional waiting times in line to get it in the ticket box. They use QR code readers so the line moves fast. Avoid bringing large backpacks as they will check for unlawful items. If you enjoy absorbing the details of the construction, you’ll likely need about 2-3 hrs here. You will see a mix of Islamic and Christian flavors throughout the site. We paid about €13 per person. There’s a tower in the site that costs an additional €3 to climb up. We did not make it on time to purchase the ticket and climb - make sure you get to the tweet before 6pm.

Wow. Just wow! I’ve seen a lot of amazing buildings in my day, yet this place is a cut above due to the size, complexity, audacity, vision(s) and sheer beauty. Book a ticket. I made a mistake — bought my ticket for the following day — but was able to fix it on the phone (because I could speak Spanish; I couldn’t get through in English). I got in 30 minutes later (on a winter weekday late morning — a great time to visit!) I got the audio guide (Eng), which was decent — sometimes confusing since it’s such a large space, but I figured it out eventually. There’s a lot to see and take in. Bring a form of ID to rent a guide. There are lots of tour guides available as well (in the courtyard). Many people had them. If you’re short on time, it probably would be good to get one. It’s free in the orange tree courtyard and in the early morning. Otherwise, you need a paid ticket to go inside. There is a small bathroom in one corner. Plan accordingly if you come in high season. Your ticket also works for some of the big, impressive churches (S Paulo by the Roman temple) and San Andre? I had mine on my phone, so that was handy. If you do only one thing in Cordoba, this would be it. PS I was able to stop on again in the late afternoon on a clear sunny day, with beautiful golden light. If you can, stop by under different conditions. It really changes!

Really amazing, and interesting, mosque/church. The building feels huge and so impressive. It's so interesting to see the architecture move from Islamic to Christian. The little free leaflet at the beginning was really informative and better than some paid for booklets! It's definitely worth a visit to Cordoba to see such a unique building.

Centro Historico Córdoba is a captivating destination that invites you to immerse yourself in its rich history and stunning architecture. As you stroll through the charming cobbled streets of the old town and Jewish Quarter, you'll be enchanted by the sight of whitewashed houses and ancient sandstone walls, including the iconic Mezquita and Royal Palace. This area stands as one of Europe's largest historic centers, proudly recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Beautiful city well worth a visit.

I really enjoyed my walk through the Centro Historico Cordoba. There’s alot to see in this city center. My favorite highlights were the Mosque Cathedral, Roman Bridge and the Calle de last Flores one of the most beautiful streets in Spain! There's restaurants and shopping too. A perfect way to spend a few hours especially on a nice day!

Very poor: I would give 0 stars if it was possible. No toilets or showers or drinking water on site. There is a faucet where you can get 100 litres of drinking water for 2 euros. The coin slot had been disabled so it was not functioning. Given that the temperature reached 39 degrees C while we're there that is unacceptable. We were charged 48 euros for 2 nights: more expensive than many luxury sites. Definitely a site to avoid unless you are masochistic.

(Translated by Google) The historic center of this city boasts one of the largest old towns in Europe, so we set off, wearing comfortable shoes and full of enthusiasm, to explore its rich monumental heritage, including the Mosque-Cathedral, the Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs, the Synagogue, the Royal Stables, and the various towers. We also made time for the narrow streets and squares that make up the different neighborhoods of this historic center. Without a doubt, this is a city worth visiting, and if possible, escaping the hustle and bustle and getting lost in its labyrinthine streets. As a side note, UNESCO extended the World Heritage designation to a large part of this historic center in 1994.

A very comfortable hotel. We had a lovely welcome from staff at reception and during our stay were always greeted by smiling reception staff. We didn't use anything else at the hotel because we were out all the time. Ours was a premium room. Large bed. Plenty of storage. Tea and coffee, kettle. Tv. Large room overlooking the front street of the hotel. The room was lovely and warm as was the bathroom. Bed very comfortable. Shower good. Most reviews say central, I would say that it's 10 minutes pleasant walk to main attractions. Easy walk to restaurants. It's all easy walking and lovely to see the little streets and shops.

Great location right in the heart of Córdoba. Quality is just as high as you would expect for a four star hotel: comfortable room, cheap and filling breakfast buffet, and a coat check to leave your luggage before and after check-in/check-out. I especially have to commend the hotel for being so helpful and friendly during the country wide blackout (2025/04/28), providing us not only with a room to stay for an extra night but also keeping us regularly updated despite the chaotic situation. Highly recommended, would stay again.

We stayed here for two nights. The location of the hotel is convenient and close to many of the attractions The rooms themselves are ok . Nothing to brag about. We were in a handicap room (without asking) . It was on the first floor so it was convenient. The patio was beautiful . Caveat: the TVs aren’t smart or have any channels outside of basic one. Wasn’t an issue for us but wanted to put it out there. The beds a bit hard an springy . ACs worked lovely and the bathroom was nice and spacious. The one turnoff was that for some reason in the morning there was a strong stench of sewage or trash. It was bad enough that the hotel has a door propped open for ventilation .

Awful experience for 4 stars hotel. We stay for 2 night. They gave us the room 312, the floor was wet and the toilet was making noises (really loud ones) because of the pipes. We reported and told us that they don’t have other rooms available and the noise is the same in all the rooms. They gave us towel to dry the floor. The second night when we come back they remove the towels, the floor was wet and the bed too. Apparently something happens with the alarm. This night they change our room, however we should go down to pick up the key and move our stuffs in the middle of the night by ourselves. The new room doesn’t have the noises. The people from the hotel never apologize for all the incovinience

Of all the Eurostars hotels in Cordoba, this was actually the best priced when we booked. For a 4 star hotel this is about what you would expect. Spacy rooms, some nice seating areas and a good breakfast. The location is not bad. We chose to leave our car in the closest parking garage and the walk is about 7 minutes. It is a little uphill though, so with a few suitcases you may want to drive your car in front (which is possible, but there’s not a ton of space). You can walk to everything you’d want to see in Cordoba either side of the hotel in 10-15 mins.

Convenient location, decent room and definitely clean. I feel that service of front desk can learn more warmth…. Although that might not matter to others.

Made a hike here from Cabra motorhome Aire. The building began in 1260, linked to the appearance of the Virgin. The first historical record in which the sanctuary that is preserved is named in 1396. It underwent a major modification and extension in 1591, giving it most of its current appearance. The last major renovation was carried out in 2007, renewing the roofs of the entire sanctuary, and refurbishing the church using local marble. During the same restoration, the viewing platform was improved with a stone map of the views and the floor. Inside the church are carvings of Saint Ferdinand, considered the patron and founder of the sanctuary, and of Saint Anne, a work from 1742 by the sculptor Cecilio Antonio Franco Roldán. To the left in the nave there is a modern image of the crucified Christ called Cristo del Picacho, made of varnished wood in its colour, with four nails, carved by Miguel Arjona in 1980. In 2013 the image of Saint Augustine was added, a work by the Cordoban José Antonio Cabello Montilla. Various pilgrimages are held each year during the spring, and every 4th of September at 4pm, during the local fair, the traditional "Bajá" or transfer of the Virgin from the hermitage to the neighbouring city of Cabra takes place, where she will remain for a month in the church of the Assumption and Angels until her return to the hermitage.

It also has a bar, but it was closed.
