Amazing ostello on the top of the hill, amazing view from here on Lecco lake
Fabio S — Google review
(Translated by Google) I worked for 4 days at the hostel booked by the guests for whom I cooked. We had both floors at our disposal. I therefore experienced the hostel from all points of view, that is, I used many spaces, I slept in the rooms, I spoke with all the staff. The guys who run it are very helpful and competent. The materials used for the furnishings and details are very interesting and recycled. The user is helped to understand the impact on the environment thanks to signs scattered around the rooms so as to understand the usefulness of the solutions applied by the managers. You sleep well in the rooms but there are no vents to drain water from the shower which, being a curtain, releases water onto the floor. However, the washing kit is always available in the cleaning rooms. The natural area around the structure is very beautiful and the view is wonderful. Especially in the evening. In the structure there is a restaurant managed by another company and you can eat or drink various specialties. Go to the Monte Barro hostel as soon as you can :) (Original) Ho lavorato per 4 giorni presso L ostello prenotato dagli ospiti per i quali ho cucinato. Andate all ostello monte barro appena riuscite :)

(Translated by Google) A truly incredible place, I met a lot of wonderful people, the hostel is beautiful, with large rooms, very comfortable beds and impeccable cleanliness. I loved how they used recycled materials to set up practically all the spaces and especially the beds which, despite being very "do it yourself", are the most solid and comfortable I have ever slept on in a hostel. There are also a lot of paths near the structure that allow you to visit the mountain, very quiet and suitable for everyone, even the top is just a half hour walk away and from there you can enjoy a beautiful view of the surroundings. If you pass through the area, I wholeheartedly recommend you spend at least one night here, or even better, do some volunteering and get to know the extraordinary people who work there.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful panoramic view, the road to reach it is a bit narrow, in the summer months at the weekend it can be reached by shuttle. Basic services but very clean and tidy managed by guys from the Legambiente association, all with a view to reducing waste, reusing and respecting the environment. Attached is the museum with archaeological finds from the excavations of Mount Barro. They do educational activities for schools. Highly recommended. Consigliatissimo.

(Translated by Google) You can enjoy a magnificent view of the plain, the mountains of the Lariano Triangle and the Lecco area. On a classic mountain path (not for everyone) you can reach the summit of Monte Barro in 35 minutes. The facility is well managed and the food is good. Architecturally it is a former sanatorium so from an aesthetic point of view it is not exactly a beauty.

Basilica of Saint Abundius - Como, Italy

Mentioned on
+6 other lists
Basilica
Sights & Landmarks
The Basilica di Sant'Abbondio is an ancient and picturesque church located in the city of Como. It features two bell towers, frescoes, and arches lining multiple aisles. Originally situated along the Via Regina, a crucial route connecting Lombardy to Northern Europe, the basilica's history dates back to the 5th century CE when it was built on the site of a paleo-Christian church.
Beautiful and quiet church. Perfect for a moment of silence and thinking.
Fredo F — Google review
It's a quiet little basilica tucked away in Como. We went there on a Monday and it was completely empty. There's no ticket or queue at all. The main ceiling and walls above the altar have nice frescoes. You can pop in 50 cents to light up the place for a few minutes and have a good look at the altar and it's walls.
Suparna S — Google review
One word for this Basilica... incredible! The Rev. Fr that walked us through the story of the basilica made it sound and look so lovely. I couldn't help but wonder how the love of God have greatly inspired the generation before us.
VIGIL U — Google review
Beautiful, peaceful snd completely empty. Much more ancient than the grander Duomo in the centre of Como. There’s beautiful artwork too.
Helen F — Google review
This is the second oldest church according to our guide. Unlike so many churches in Europe, which are often a mixture of various styles, here one finds quite a rather unaltered Romanesque construction. The Basilica, built in the 11th century over an even older church as has been found out by recent excavations, is aesthetically very pleasing - from the exterior as well as inside. There are also some wall paintings, although they date from the 14th century. In the middle are the relics of Saint Abbondio, a local bishop, and of two of his successors, rather unknown saints elsewhere. Next to the church is a courtyard, recently restored, which now gets used by the town's university
Emmanuel R — Google review
Everyone who visits Como goes to the Duomo (Cathedral), but to my mind this church is more interesting and beautiful. It is an old romanesque Church (much older than the Duomo) with beautiful frescoes, in particular the large series in the altar. I suppose people don't go here so much because it's not in the city center. It was empty when we visited it. But it's a lovely, lovely church. The relics of Saint Abundius (Sant'Abbondio) are located here. It is free to visit.
Tom — Google review
Really lovely church ideal visit off the beaten track no toilet facilities but nearby quaint bar (to left of picture) around corner with helpful and super friendly owner Claudio.
L G — Google review
A must-see: a bit off the classic Como Tours because it is just outside the center, but in my opinion not to be missed. It is a 1,000-year-old basilica with one of the largest cycles of frescoes of the Giotto school in Lombardy. Inside the church, on the left, there are also panels that allow you to know the history very well.

Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta - Duomo di Como

Mentioned on
+19 other lists
Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, also known as the Duomo di Como, is a grand cathedral that took over three centuries to build. Its palatial interior features an array of tapestries, art, and frescoes. The cathedral's construction began in 1396 and was completed in 1740.
Como Cathedral, a stunning architectural landmark near the lakeshore, commands the city’s historic center and offers a dramatic view to approaching travelers. Built between 1396 and 1744, its construction spanned centuries, blending Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles into a harmonious whole. Its proximity to the ancient Bishop’s Palace reflects Como’s historical role as a cultural and trade link between Central Europe and Italy. The Cathedral’s sculptures and paintings showcase the fusion of transalpine and Italian artistic traditions. Despite evolving styles, each phase of construction respected earlier proportions, creating a unified and timeless structure that embodies centuries of artistic expression.
Dr. H — Google review
Visiting the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Como was an unforgettable experience. The architecture is breathtaking — a perfect blend of Gothic strength and Renaissance grace. Every detail, from the grand façade to the colorful stained glass, tells a story of faith, art, and history. Inside, the peaceful atmosphere and the play of light through the windows create a sense of timeless beauty. Absolutely worth visiting — a masterpiece that captures the soul of Italy.
Hasan H — Google review
Very interesting. But what I would like is a MAP of the figures on the OUTSIDE of this structure. Clearly there are some very unique figures (not usually seen on churches), like Pliny the Younger. I would like to know more about the why each of these figures/animals were chosen and why they were placed in their current location. The construction of this Cathedral was begun in 1396 and over 300 years combined Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. What is interesting is that the cathedral in Milan was just begun 10 years before. There is a timeline of events related to the Cathedral di Sant Maria Assunta, is located inside, which is informative.
Nancylee S — Google review
I was surprised by this duomo. It is very well preserved and has an interesting way of keeping the parishioners and tourists separated while not strongly impacting either. This is the only catholic church I have been in that has the old style offering candles. Finally, make sure to take in the ceiling. The use of blue is rare.
Mark P — Google review
This cathedral is one of the most beautiful for sure I have ever seen. You can enter inside for free and also you can admire its beauty from the cafe across it. Order an aperol and enjoy stunning view. Dolce far niente 🇮🇹
Aleksandra A — Google review
The cathedral is within walking distance from the train station. It is open to tourists for praying and picture taking M-S. You can get closer to the altar past the rope to pray only. Beautiful church!
Nellie B — Google review
Lovely Cathedral situated right in the middle of the shops and market . Free entry using a separate door than the staff and people who actually pray here . Well maintained .
Adrian P — Google review
The Duomo di Como is a beautiful cathedral with a mix of Gothic and Renaissance styles. The outside is impressive, and the square around it makes it even more special. Inside, the stained glass windows, frescoes, and intricate decorations are amazing – I could stay for hours just admiring every detail. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy the art. Definitely a must-visit in Como!

Volandia

Museum
Specialty Museums
Volandia is a massive aviation museum located near Milan's Malpensa International Airport. It houses an impressive collection of real planes, flight simulators, and even a playground for kids. Visitors can explore numerous scale models, military and civil aircraft both indoors and outdoors, as well as old and new cars. The museum also features a space section for enthusiasts.
We absolutely loved this museum. Although the main theme is flying machines (planes, helicopters, etc..) there is much more, like a various train models and cars as well as car models If you are the sort of person that likes planes, cars and also to read the details about exhibits, you can easily spend all day here
Illremember T — Google review
Very impressive displays, especially the space and car collection. The children indoor playground was amazing as well , and the kids liked it a lot. On the downside - many displays are very run down which is a shame as they could make this place so much better - the train models and tracks are not working and all filled with cobweb, some bathrooms are not functional and the train and old car display in the back of the museum is just sad. Additionally the large open aircrafts next to the airport fence could be cleaned a bit. In addition, there are not too many attractions for little kids, who wanted to enter planes, cars and helicopters but there were only a few of them that could be entered.
Alex B — Google review
We had a few hours before we could check in to our room, this was the perfect place to pass them. Take the sidewalk from upper level / departure to the gate, then call from the gate, and someone will come and unlock it for you. The museum itself features airplanes from the very early days of aviation in Italy. The building is an old airplane factory.
Segev T — Google review
Really cool museum at Malpensa Airport! Lots of interesting history and full-sized airplanes to check out, both indoors and outside. There’s even a café inside with snacks and drinks. Only downside is you might have to wait about 15 minutes for someone to let you in or out, which is a bit annoying if you’ve got a flight to catch. But overall, a fun place to visit if you’ve got some extra time at the airport.
Fatima S — Google review
My son loved this museum! Many things to see and learn. We stayed for an hour but you can easily spend more time because there is a lot of information. Very interesting!
Ron Y — Google review
Because I still have time before departure and find place to visit. It has many antique cars which I never see before. And it has many aeroplane outside which is very interesting. Just I don’t know why has no entrance from airport which pass thru the bridge. The plate I need walk anticlockwise but it has no road which is only fence. I need walk difficult which cross the sixth rental car park around 20 minutes to arrive the entrance. I am highly recommend to set a entrance which just below the airport bridge and attract the tourist to come
Kamocot — Google review
Really great way to spend a few hours if your’e waiting for a flight. Go outside at the second floor and go through the pathway up the highway. There is an alternative entrance to the museum where you have to call the given number and someone will come to open the gates.

Botanical garden
Nature & Parks
I Giardini di Villa Melzi, located in Bellagio, Italy, is a stunning botanical garden surrounding the 19th-century neo-classical mansion of Villa Melzi d'Eril. The garden features picturesque trails, statues, pavilions, and breathtaking views of Lake Como. While the villa itself is not open to the public, visitors can explore the serene botanical gardens and capture its beauty through leisurely strolls or specialized tours.
This place is mesmerizing. Happy by just walking around the garden and taking few pictures. There are two exits. You can go out and return by asking the staff to stamp on your wrist. There’s entrance near the port, very easy to walk to this place. We did not buy the ticket in advance since we saw the notice in the booking website that we need to be in line to get ticket anyway. Luckily, there was no queue, I believe because we visited during weekday in the afternoon (Oct 6). Not too many people there. Recommend!
Kamolrat C — Google review
It’s a very beautiful garden right on the lake. I don’t mind paying 10€ just to walk through the park because it does take some work to maintain the garden. It’s a nice place, there’s a museum too. However you cannot enter the main villa and it’s just not that amazing overall. It’s still a great place to be away from the touristy centro of Bellagio
K C — Google review
Nice place to stroll in Bellagio! The garden is super well-kept and even has tropical plants like banana trees 🍌🍌🍌 Great for photos, an afternoon walk, or just to chill after lunch. Worth a visit if you’re around!

Opening hours are daily 10 am to 6:30 pm. The gardens are closed in the winter time. In 2025 it will close on Oct 31st and will reopen in March 2026. Cost is 10€ you buy tickets at the gates. 2 gates entry one on each side. Located in the town of Bellagio on lake como. Parking is limited as the town of Bellagio is very popular in the summer.

The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and so well cared for. Everywhere you look, there’s beautiful greenery and an incredible variety of trees. It’s such a peaceful, stunning place to walk through. If you’re visiting Bellagio, this is a must see. I highly recommend making time for a visit.

Villa Melzi is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. The gardens are immaculate, peaceful, and filled with stunning colors, especially in spring. Every path reveals something new—ancient trees, vibrant flowers, classical statues, and breathtaking views of the lake. The atmosphere is serene and elegant, perfect for a relaxing stroll or quiet reflection. The neoclassical villa adds a timeless charm, and the small museum and chapel offer fascinating historical insight. The combination of nature, art, and history is truly unique. It felt like walking through a living painting.

Villa del Balbianello is a captivating 18th-century villa located in Lenno, on the picturesque Lake Como. Originally built by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, it has been home to various wealthy families and notable figures throughout history. The villa boasts a splendid loggia offering enchanting views and is adorned with breathtaking frescoes and charming gardens. Its former owner, adventurer Guido Monzino, enriched it with an exclusive art collection and artifacts from his global expeditions.
We’ve photographed several pre-wedding shoots at Villa del Balbianello, and every single time it feels like a dream. The views over Lake Como are breathtaking, and the villa itself is pure magic. In spring, the wisteria blooms beautifully across the villa, creating an even more enchanting atmosphere. Every corner is photogenic, from the iconic terrace overlooking the lake to the lush gardens. It’s truly one of the most incredible locations in Italy for a photoshoot.

A beautiful estate with a fascinating walk to and from the site. Definitely touristy but absolutely worth the visit. Be aware: Google’s “mostly flat” description is misleading—you’ll need to tackle some uphill sections, so bring good shoes.
Alexander S — Google review
Very beautiful and pristine villa. Everything is very manicured and clean. It is about a 2km walk from the Leno ferry terminal. Definitely some gradients so wear comfortable shoes. This villa is home to famous scenes in Star Wars and also James Bond Casino Royale.
Falene C — Google review
Such an incredible place to visit if you are going to Lago di Como, I would suggest buying the tickets in advance so you can skip the wait, bring comfortable shoes, I wouldn’t recommend heels or anything like that if you do want to enjoy the most hidden places here. Very clean, it takes about 2-3 hours so see and enjoy most of the villa! Is a must!

One word – magnificent. I recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid waiting. We arrived at 10 a.m. and waited about 20 minutes in line. The villa opens at 10:00 a.m. They allow only a limited number of visitors inside, which is great because it’s not overcrowded. The ticket costs €14.

Beautiful Villa... Looked stunning in Casino Royale! In person so much more!!! Tour is a must do to understand the last owner.. ended up buying the book about him. A must visit if in the area.

To reach it, you have to walk about 750-800 meters after parking your car, but believe me, it's worth it 👍I think if you came to visit Lake Como, you should definitely see this place, the entrance fee is 13€ per person, very well preserved, Italian architectural features and the magnificent Como atmosphere, wonderful 👍

Famous from Hollywood-movies this gorgeous villa and surrounding gardens are a must visit when visiting Lake Como. We took the guides tour inside the Villa which was very fascinating. It was very hot and crowded in gardens however, so would recommend to visit off-season and make sure to buy your tickets in advance.

Villa Carlotta is a stunning 17th-century villa located on the shores of Lake Como, near the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. The villa boasts beautiful gardens and a remarkable botanical park with an impressive variety of rhododendrons and azaleas. Commissioned by Marquis Giorgio II Clerici, it features a neoclassical style with works by renowned artists such as Canova, Tiepolo, and Hayez.
Took the train to Varenna, then the boat and got off at Lenno. From Lenno we hiked to the villa following the lake shore (approx 4 km) This is a great hike, easy to make and not exhaustive. The only caveat is that there is a section of the hike that follows the road. Visited on Monday. Started with the gardens as there was a storm cloud on the lake and wanted to cover the gardens and move inside if the rain moved onto the place. The gardens are extensive and beautiful. The rhododendrons were in peak bloom (mid May). The Villa itself is also impressive, well curated and maintained. Overall a great small museum as a time capsule ot a different era. The cafeteria has gelato, panini and excellent beer. What else do you need beyond that. We entered the museum at 3:00 pm and left just after 6:pm. The combined ticket for the gardens and the villa is €15/p. Good value.

Nice museum with several exhibits. Also has gorgeous views of lake como. There is also a restaurant to grab some lunch. It was not crowded when we visited also there was no line to buy tickets. Worthwhile visiting the villa.

An absolute architectural, botanical and historical marvel of the last 500 years. The grounds of the villa are absolutely gorgeous - fountains sculptures, and perfectly manicured floral heaven. The garden is truly remarkable with how much variety of plants there are and also the way it's been maintained. For the building itself, nothing short of extraordinary - the design and architecture is impressive. There is so much history and craftsmanship behind this place.

Must see! Great place to visit, beatiful inside, many sculpture, paintings few rooms with furniture with very great conditions. Amaizing garden around, it takes 2-3 hours to visit and see all villa and garden. Beautyful view from balcony for Como lake.

Beautiful villa with stunning lake views and lush gardens. The inside has some impressive art and sculptures, but the real highlight is walking through the gardens, peaceful and scenic, a perfect spot to slow down and take in the beauty of Lake Como.

Lovely visit especially enjoyed the extensive gardens, agricultural history and interactive commentary in our language about basement life at the Villa. Reasonable €15 entrance (€13 for over 65s) Luggage lockers were helpful. Bistro service for 2 hot drinks was slow on the day(20/8/25) as they seemed short-staffed.

I have no words. Grand, classy, green. Bamboo plants, very tropical. The great beauty of a sea of over 150 species of plants. All this is combined with the view of Lake Como, which is open from almost every point of Villa Carlotta. Very good restaurant.

Forte Di Fuentes

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Colico, the Forte di Fuentes is a historical gem worth exploring. Constructed in 1609 under the guidance of military architect Gabrio Brusca, this fortress was strategically built by Spanish governor Pedro Acevedo to safeguard against local threats. Spanning an impressive 300 meters in length and 125 meters wide, it once housed military barracks, a Governor's Palace, a church, and various essential facilities like a mill and water reservoirs.
To be honest there isn't much left from the fort itself given its age but it's absolutely worth going there for the stunning views and what the fort builders needed to go through to get everything up there. Consider also the fact that they had no water source in the fort so all water needed to continuously be transported there with mules.
Walter A — Google review
We enjoyed walking through the area almost without any other people. There are a few signs to read about history and nice views to the valley and mountains
Ivan T — Google review
Went to the forte but you can only view it by guided tour and the next one wasn’t for 40 mins. Take some time to be more prepared than us and know the start times. From what we saw in the lobby, it’s an older attraction that’s heavily military based. It was pretty empty, even on a Saturday afternoon.
Alejandro G — Google review
An impressive fort from the 1600s, when the Spanish ruled this area. Definitely worth a visit, particularly in combination with Forte Montecchio Nord. This is a very different site to the other one, being much older and mostly in ruins, although there is some WW1 history on the site too. The views of the surrounding area are fantastic and really emphasise the strategic importance of the location through the centuries. The staff member on duty gave a brief but very informative introduction to the site in front of a map showing a reconstruction of the fort, before letting me roam the site and see the ruins for myself. The walk from the car park and into the fort itself is a fairly steep track, so bear this in mind if you have limited mobility.

Forte Montecchio Nord is a well-preserved military stronghold dating back to 1914, offering guided tours and stunning views of Lake Como from its gun platform. The fortress is part of the historic Alto Lario fortification line and was built to protect Italy's passageways from Switzerland and Austria-Hungary during World War I. It stands as Europe's best-preserved First World War fortress, showcasing its powerful structure.
Stunning views, tremendous experience. I would highly recommend Edit: After reading some of the negative reviews, I feel compelled to add a few clarifications. The tour guide was attentive and spoke perfect English. Our group consisted of two English speakers and two Italians, and the guide ensured everyone understood the information, answering questions and providing clarifications. Those suggesting lowering the price for a solid hour of a personal tour, priced at 8 EUR per person, are simply missing the value of a remarkably well-maintained and significant moment. It’s a reminder that some people will find reasons to complain about anything. While I wish I could respond directly to the comments, I see that the owner is doing an excellent job addressing them. The pictures are great, but to truly appreciate the tour, you need to hear the guide and experience it in person. Asking your own questions enhances the experience. Thank you for a fantastic and detailed tour. It wouldn't have been the same without the guide; signage alone wouldn't suffice.

What a wonderful find in Colico! We didn't really know about this fort until we got to Colico, but I'm so glad we decided to visit it. Our guide Luke was wonderful, truly enthusiastic, very knowledgeable, and very friendly and charming. Apparently we were the only ones visiting the fort that day, so full marks to him for doing such a brilliant job of the tour when we were the last and only tour of the day. I know this is highly rated here, but I still think it's not very well known and it should be! The working canon is amazing, the entire site is very well maintained, and the signs are in Italian, English and German. Luke spoke fluent English and made the whole experience very interesting. Highly recommended!
Anu N — Google review
The guided tour is very interesting! The guide was very knowledgeable, and told us a lot of interesting facts about the fort. The cannons are well-preserved and still move, which was very cool to see. I learned a lot of war-history that I did not know yet, and the tour made it really come alive. The views are also great from the roof of the fortress, definitively worth a visit! Again thank you!

The course is designed in great detail so that you can learn all the content in a thorough and lasting way in the shortest possible time and pass the exam (very high percentage of students passed). The study and lessons set up in this way are exciting and fun and make the experience unique. Mnemonic techniques are also suggested and the teacher has an engaging eloquence with perfect communication (never moments of boredom or inattention) all supported by paper teaching material and apps with tests and animations that are very useful for studying. The practical lessons are practically an intensive sailing (or motor) course with beautiful and modern boats. Pampered and followed step by step even on exam days. Maximum availability to clarify any doubts. Nothing is left to chance. Highly recommended!!! (Original) Scuola ad altissimo livello. Beautiful place with a stunning waterfall! The view of the waterfall from a distance is special, and it becomes even more breathtaking as you get closer. It’s a tall waterfall, and when you approach it, you can feel the refreshing mist from the falling water. There is parking available very close to the waterfall, which makes access easy and convenient. Overall, a truly beautiful spot worth visiting.

Did this hike with my friends and although I did find it challenging at points with regular breaks it’s not only very doable but simply beautiful (keep in mind I hadn’t hiked in years at that point). Lovely views and even a spot for a swim right at the top for those who are brave enough to face the chilly waters!

every time I visit chiavenna I always pass by the cascate. they’re so beautiful in winter or summer. recently I’ve been doing some of the hikes that you can find behind the waterfall which continue up alongside it and let me say it’s definitely worth it. you can find many pools near the summit for a quick dip in summer and in winter the serenity is amazing and the running water is a great soundtrack to accompany your hike. recommended 10/10 experience. brought my friends from australia with me the most recent time I did the hike and they also loved it. we swam in the spot in the second photo but beware even in peak summer the water is freezing (worth it though)

A beautiful palace in the rular part of Chiavenna. Summer house of a noble family that had a great relevance in the area and in the north of Italy. Particularly interesting facts about history of the place and the city, plus our guide gave as lots of details about facts and important people that stayed in the house as guests. Didn't imaging that could be so much in a little city close to the alps. Suggest getting a guide it is very interesting. The house is fully furbished with original decoration and furniture, even a room that was arranged for a visit of Napoleon. All kept in exceptional conditions. It is not huge and from the outside you wouldn't expect too much but it is quite the opposite. There is a famous working Vyne that makes a very famous wine among the best 100 in the world.

Runs are poorly maintained, ski lift entrances and exits are barely looked after to the point they’re almost always icy and dangerous to skiers trying to get on/off the lift and there is no notification as to which lifts will be open on the day. Nobody working there seems to be able to provide an answer to any question about any of the lifts or runs. I wouldn’t spend more than one day here if you like skiing.

We love this place. The birds are impressive, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. A great place to experience some really cool birds that most of us would otherwise never see up close. We’ve been twice now and for sure we’ll be back again in the future.
Laura T — Google review
Sweet-little green refuge with a great educational demonstration (about an hour; language: Italian/German), and with heart for the animals and very friendly demonstrators. Admission fee? - comparable to a cinema ticket (swiss standard). Know the difference: It‘s not a zoo, it‘s a falconry.
Harvey D — Google review
This is a wonderful place with people who love their work and nature. A great show with a beautiful program. Huge thanks for the positive emotions and the love for animals!
Diana K — Google review
Amazing show. Learned a lot about the history of falconry, and enjoyed the birds from a very near distance (had one even on my head). Highly recommended half day trip! Also, the pizza in the bistro tasted fantastic and was very reasonably priced.
Remo U — Google review
A beautiful show of various birds of prey flying within inches of the audience. It was entertaining as well as educational. It is clear that the handlers/trainers love these animals very much. If you'd like to see birds of prey flying up close this is a great place for that experience. If seeing animals in captivity is something that triggers you, then you may consider not going.
Greg L — Google review
The show is really cool. Like you have the Hawks and Eagles literally flying cm over your head. The food is solid but not spectacular. Still: Definitely worth it!

What a day. While initially a bit underwhelmed... the shows and set up were actually incredible. The staff are kind and engaging. The love for the animals is tangible

Piazza Grande in Locarno is a charming town square featuring cobblestone streets and historic buildings. The square serves as the focal point for various events such as film festivals and food fairs, making it a lively hub of activity. Surrounded by old palaces and adorned with harmonious porticos in the Lombard architectural style, Piazza Grande offers a picturesque setting for visitors to explore.
We came in the summer from Ascona to Locarno by local bus to explore its famous Piazza Grande and the surrounding old town. Our idea was to have dinner somewhere in the mazes of the old town. In the evening the magnificent Piazza was already quite empty, so we could admire it very well. The Piazza is bordered by rows of colorful three-story houses. Narrow streets go off in different directions. Nice compact old town.

Piazza Grande is the central square in old town Locarno. It's a pretty big square adorned with beautiful Italian style vivid color houses. A famous summer film festival is held here. Place is cool to walk and sip a drink in one of outdoor cafes, however it's deserted at night

Just a great place to relax and to enjoy a nice meal, ice cream or coffee. There are beautiful parks nearby and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes for any tastes.

Please note my comments are based primarily around our film festival experience within this space. It’s early August and the Locarno Film Festival is in full flow, the centrepiece is the Piazza Grande, where up to 8000 people per night gather to watch movies on one of the world’s biggest screens. It’s an experience you are unlikely to forgot, to share those moments with thousands of strangers, it’s kind of amazing and incredibly cool. I love the environment here, who says cinema is dead when so many gather to watch films both big and small. Loved it each night as bats made their way across the screen, maybe they were watching.

Ascona lakeside is a charming destination that offers a serene experience by the Lungalago di Ascona. The palm tree-lined coast invites leisurely strolls and opportunities for swimming in the beaches or lakeside pools. The town itself exudes a Mediterranean ambiance with its quaint streetside cafes and romantic old town, providing an idyllic setting for exploring and enjoying views of Lago Maggiore.
The lakeside promenade in Ascona is incredibly beautiful and has a wonderful atmosphere. The views of Lake Maggiore are stunning and there are terraces and restaurants along the entire length of the beach. When night falls, the lights on the trees and terraces on the shore come on, creating a dusky atmosphere. We visited here in late summer - night was still warm and the place was absolutely stunning.

The highlight of my trip to Switzerland. The whole town is dripping wealth. Grab a bench, sit on the promenade, admire the view and soak up the atmosphere.

A charming place to stroll along the marvelous lakeside with its Mediterranean ambiance! If you're feeling hungry or thirsty, there are also plenty of good places around for a pit stop to recharge your energy. PS: During sunny times, expect the area to be crowded with market stalls and people!

Visited Lugano this weekend and have to say it is beautiful but there is not much to do. My advice is to take a boat tour. Or if you visiting that part of Italy then go further to Ticino. Lugano has its charm but I would not spend here more than an hour. Go up the steps to see the best view from the top.

Santuario della Madonna del Sasso

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
Madonna del Sasso is a Roman Catholic pilgrimage site in Locarno, Switzerland, established after the Virgin Mary reportedly appeared in 1480. The Franciscan Santuario della Madonna del Sasso church, perched on a rocky crag above the town, was consecrated in 1487 at the spot where the apparition occurred. Visitors can take a scenic twenty-minute walk through a lush ravine or ride a funicular for stunning views of the church and Lake Maggiore.
We were visiting Locarno with friends and came here on a sunny summer day. Thankfully there weren’t many others so we were able to enjoy walking around. This church is amazing for its location and design. The interior has been well preserved, maybe restored. There are some 3D depictions of biblical events that are curious. The museum was closed so I can’t comment on that. Beware that there are many steps down (and up!) from the funicular stop. I definitely recommend spending time here. Cool spot.
Karl P — Google review
A beautiful Catholic church that dates back to the 15th century, and the site of a Marian apparition. You can access it by funicular, or there's some street parking near the funicular station - otherwise it's a bit of an uphill walk from Locarno (I think ~20min). Nice views of the lake, and very ornate decorations in the church, with a particularly nice oil painting from the 19th century of Jesus being carried from the cross.
Michel L — Google review
Beautiful church, magnificent views. Could be a bit crowded but definitely worth it
Amit O — Google review
Take the funicular up to here from the town below, trip takes about 5 minutes. On exiting the top station cross the road and walk down the path to get to the church. Be aware that it is quite a steep and long path down, it can get a bit tiring one the way back to the station especially when it's hot.
Ian F — Google review
Great views. You can take the funicular or walk the stairs from the lake.

An amazing church. Lovely wee museum as well. A bit of a walk up and down but we used the funicular rail. Worth it.

A wonderful place. Great for a short and cold swim. There are also very nice hiking roots. The water is freezing year-round. Next to the main parking area there’s an amazing old bridge crossing the stream, and some great pools. There are also more shallow places where children can go inside.

A hidden gem in Ticino! The rocks have amazing patterns and the water is crystal clear. Sadly, we went in November and couldn’t swim. Definitely looking forward for a summer visit to the beautiful valley.

This was the most incredible fresh water ravines I've ever been to. So much so, it was the highlight of my month travelling Europe. As always the Swiss morals of cleanliness and respect were upheld and there was no litter or trash ruining the views. The water was mesmerising, the weather intoxicating and the general surroundings simply incredible. The bus journey up the mountain was cheap and easily accessible, leaving you with various options of drop off. I chose to get of slightly early, to enjoy a hike to the water. Prior warning, despite the summer sun, the water is very cold. In various places there were signs that warned of currents / dangers and even lifeguards present. These areas however, were very sparse and you should make sure the area is safe before you swim. Beautiful views attract admirers, so you can understand why there are usually a lot of people - you might want to get there earlier to get a nice spot. Finally, I saw a snake drop onto a guy sleeping under a rock ledge and while I've never laughed so much in my life... be careful.

Nestled in the heart of Vals, 7132 Hotel is a contemporary and stylish retreat offering an array of amenities. Indulge in unadulterated culinary experiences at Red, where timeless classics like crepes Suzette are flambeed tableside. The hotel's luxe spa boasts quartzite walls and offers rejuvenating treatments like the highly recommended deep muscle massage. While some find the rooms a bit small, they appreciate the welcoming team and creative cuisine at Silver restaurant.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel 7134 in Vals, and it was truly a memorable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the stunning architecture and the serene surroundings. The hotel seamlessly blends modern design with the natural beauty of the Alps. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and attentive, making sure I felt right at home. My room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and equipped with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The highlight was definitely the breathtaking views from my balcony. The hotel’s spa facilities were a true oasis. I enjoyed relaxing in the thermal baths, which were both rejuvenating and tranquil. The on-site dining was also outstanding, with a delicious menu that showcased local ingredients.

I had visited many hot springs hotels in Japan, but this Swiss thermal hotel was very different experience. It is mixed thermal bath with bathing suites on which is major difference than the separated bath/private bath in Japan. The water quality was amazing and you can actually feel its healing power. The hotel is set in a beautiful valley and the hotel rooms are beautiful designed with gorgeous view(not very comfortable and guest friendly though, like any other design over functional situations). The Silver restaurant is a must do where the food is amazing and you get to spend 10 minutes snack time inside this Michelin two stars restaurant, meet the chefs see how they create. Though the hotel is bit remote but they offer limousine for 100 CHF or helicopter for tens of thousands dollars.

Truly a special place that I dream to return time and again. The waters and the facilities, designed by famed architect Peter Zumthor, are close to a spiritual experience, calming and quieting. I’ve stayed in the luxurious penthouse, which is designed by Kengo Kuma, truly expensive but worth it for special occasions, and in various rooms in the House of Architects—these are compact but much more reasonably priced and special with the vibes. The on site restaurants are magical, including the formal restaurants at Red and the elevated Silver whose teams are truly artists. The spas, the front desk, and the concierges trolly go above and beyond to make you feel special, as they have for me each time I’ve stayed. Can hardly wait to return as soon as I’m able.
Zsolt B — Google review
The hotel feels overpriced and does not really meet the standard of a true 5-star property. I also found that there was not much to do in the area, which made the experience quite boring. Overall, not what I expected..

had the most wonderful stay at 7132 Hotel in Vals. From start to finish, everything was exceptional like the food was truly delicious, the drinks outstanding, and the massage treatment something really special. The thermal baths and the architecture alone are worth the trip, offering a unique and calming atmosphere with such a cozy and welcoming surrounding. On top of that, the staff were warm, professional, and made the whole experience even more memorable. A perfect place to relax, recharge, and treat yourself. I’ll definitely be back!

It’s the perfect place to unwind—whether you’re alone, with family, or with friends. Everything is thoughtfully designed for comfort and relaxation. We truly enjoyed our one-night stay and would love to return for a longer visit next time. The staff are friendly, professional, and always ready to help. The place is spotless and beautifully maintained, and every detail has been carefully considered to make you feel at home. Soaking in the thermal bath with a mountain view—what could be better?
Sena Ö — Google review
The hotel was great, but a little bit too much for the price. We had taken the family suite for 1.5k per evening, but the location and room design affected it might be over priced. In all was a good stay and experience of the SPA area.

The Orridi di Uriezzo, also known as the Ravines of Uriezzo, is a natural wonder located in the Ossola valley. Formed during the last glaciation, these ravines were created by streams that eroded the rock over time, resulting in narrow valleys and meandering gorges. With the retreat of glaciers, the watercourses withdrew, leaving behind this unique geological formation that can now be easily explored on foot.
Beautiful area to take photos, go for a walk, and swim.

Carefull! Today we got stunned multiple times without reason by a huge (probably European but could also be an Asian-) hornet, at the spot of below pictures (up hill Marmitte dei Giganti, see circle). Could be defending a nest? The hike was nice, ~ 3KM , if you start from the Oratorio di Santa Lucia and follow below route.

During the last glaciation (which ended about 12,000 years ago), the Antigorio Valley was occupied by the extensive Toce Glacier. Countless streams flowed downstream of it, which over time have eroded the rock, generating narrow valleys and meandering gorges. With the retreat of the glaciers, the streams also withdrew and left what are today the Orridi di Uriezzo. Currently, in fact, the watercourses no longer flow within them and it is therefore possible to visit them easily on foot. is one of the most attractive canyons in Piedmont

The "Orridi di Uriezzo" are deep gorges "dug" into the rock by streams that once flowed from the glacier that occupied the Formazza Valley. The walls are carved by the swirling motion of water and violent waterfalls. In some places they are so closed to each other that you cannot see the sky, forming niches and grooves.

Chiesa Monumentale San Gaudenzio is a historical monument dating back to the 13th century, featuring Romanesque-Gothic architecture. The interior boasts five naves and stunning frescoes. The church offers a spiritual ambiance and picturesque views of the mountains and town. We were very impressed with this facility having driven an hour to get there. It's a very well laid out place, clean, modern, quiet & relaxing. We spent almost 3 hours there trying out the different pools inside and out. It's in a stunning setting with magnificent hills surrounding it. The jets in the outdoor pool are particularly invigorating. We kept our belongings in lockers in the changing rooms which are huge, with plenty of change cubicles, showers, toilets, and hair dryers for us girls.

Amazing place.. Literally between mountains and water falls. It has 3 swimming pool outside with warm water. Indoor area is very basic, but has a pool for kids.. The restaurant has only sandwiches and salad. At the end very easy, simple and a natural place. A dream location with the mountain views. Has a spa place underground with sauna and steam rooms. Like many of them. It's definitely worth to go! Not so crowded. Has options to attend hourly basis ( 3 hours or all day long) better to bring your own bathrobes. They rent it for 6 eur each.

Very well maintained property. Brilliant pools, soft mineral water with less chlorine. Welcoming and helpful staff. The valley and mountains are extremely scenic and beautiful. The only problem i found is lack of clearly stated rules for SPA zone. There is some people talking by full voice inside saunas and steam baths. It is absolutely unacceptable. If someone asks them to lower their voice, he will face immediate scandal. Dear people of brilliant Terme, please add rules in large readable format. Thank you for your excellent service!

For just 8 Euros you can spend an hour in the naturally heated baths, both inside and out (looking at the mountains). There are several timed jets and water spouts to massage your shoulders and limbs. Don't forget to bring a bathing cap which is mandatory. There are spas with steam rooms saunas and massages too, for an extra charge of course, which we will try next time. A fantastic way to follow a tiring walk to the tops of the surrounding waterfalls (some of the route is by ladder) and past old quarry workers' stone huts.
