The varied architecture in its center includes medieval guild houses, the 11th-century St. Mary's cathedral and the onion-domed Sankt Ulrich und Afra abbey. Key Renaissance buildings are the Augsburger Town Hall with its Golden Hall. The Fuggerhaüser is the seat of a wealthy banking dynasty and the Fuggerei is a 16th-century social housing complex.

Museum
Fuggerei is a historic public housing complex that has been in operation since the 16th century and features an on-site museum. The city center, where Fuggerei is located, also boasts attractions such as the town hall, street fountains, Weberhaus, numerous churches, a zoo and botanical garden, a football stadium, Mozart's house, MAN museum, Zeughaus, Maximilianmuseum and Riegele beer museum.
Such a unique and interesting place! It’s the world’s oldest social housing complex, and you can really feel the history walking through the little streets. The apartments are tiny and cozy, and it’s cool to see how people lived here for the past hundreds of years and so. Keep in mind though that people still live there! There’s also a few little museums inside some of the residences that go over the story of how the place started, how they lived, struggles, etc. As well as a bunker that you can explore. Definitely worth a quick visit if you’re in Augsburg!

Went on a Augsburg Fugger Tour. Last stop was the Fuggerei. Have always been curious about it and it's history. Quite amazing that it still exists till this day an age and functioning the same way it always has. Absolutely incredible. The grounds are extremely well kept and just a beautiful part of living history. Must go when you visit Augsburg. After the tour you can also visit tiny beer garden by the entrance.
Philicia — Google review
Really cool to hear about how this social housing was started. The people can live here for €1 per year, and just have to be Catholic, pray everyday, and be in need. It’s definitely worth the €8 entrance fee.
Vintage H — Google review
It was a wonderful experience visiting the world’s oldest public housing. We went on a weekday morning, and the atmosphere was calm and peaceful, which made exploring even more enjoyable. Purchasing the ticket at the entrance was simple, and the site itself was easy to navigate. The area is beautifully maintained, with so much attention to detail that you really feel immersed in its rich history. Walking through the space gives you a true sense of cultural heritage, and it’s both educational and inspiring. I would definitely recommend this visit to anyone interested in culture and history—it’s a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience something truly special.
Masnita G — Google review
I visited The Fuggerei on two different trips, once in 2010 and then again in 2023. It's a neat experience with in Augsburg and i definitely recommend checking it out. The history here is interesting for sure and the architecture in germany in general always amazes me. I would recommend tickets in advance, although was not busy when we went. My aunt had picked them up ahead of time for us.
Mark L — Google review
Fuggerei in Augsburg is often touted as a must-see historical site, but unless you’re deeply interested in social housing history, it’s largely underwhelming. The quaint buildings and quiet atmosphere feel more like a sleepy neighborhood than a captivating attraction. The real standout is the WWII bunker—an unexpectedly compelling and haunting part of the visit. It offers a chilling, immersive look into wartime life and far surpasses the rest of the experience. If you’re nearby and curious, stop by for the bunker, but otherwise, it’s probably not worth going out of your way.
Keerthy N — Google review
A fascinating historical place that is definitely worth visiting. It beautifully combines the charm of the past with the spirit of the present. I loved the peaceful atmosphere and the feeling of stepping back in time. The houses and small museums provide a wonderful glimpse into old life, and everything is well organized for visitors. Highly recommended when in Augsburg.

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Augsburger Dom is a Romanesque/Gothic cathedral with square towers and renowned 12th-century stained-glass windows. It is considered one of the most important Renaissance architecture north of the Alps and is the city's landmark. The cathedral, founded in the 12th century, has undergone many reconstructions and now features a neo-Gothic style. Inside, visitors can admire original stained glass and authentic paintings dating back to the 11th century.
Such a beautiful cathedral dedicated to Our Blessed Mother, Mary. There is an extensive crypt under this cathedral. It truly is remarkable the construction quality and craftsmanship that existed 500 years ago. It doesn’t exist today.
Georgia L — Google review
I was surprised for the big dimensions of this cathedral, very nice building with many paintings inside, very interesting if you are interested in history and architecture.
Jorge L — Google review
It is impossible to express the atmosphere with words. Everyone must feel it for themselves. It's very old and massive cathedral not very far from city hall. It is home to oldest surviving stained glass. The paintings with some dating back to 11th century are authentic. Be aware that it closes at 6.
Saba B — Google review
A very beautiful The Cathedral of Augsburg, founded in the 11th century. Very detailed art works with original stained glass. You can easily spend 45 minutes walking around inside and out. We went on Sunday and did not pay to get in, not sure if there is s fee at all. It is worth the visit.
Reshma T — Google review
Medieval Cathedral that was renewed with the Gothic style. 62m high and impressively high with beautiful art glass work, a corridor full of saints/priests Tombs. shrines surrounding the main altar. its the icon of the city.
David A — Google review
This cathedral is the most visited site in Augsburg and also it's most important church. It's founded in the 12th century but the original church even dates back to 8th century and it is a Roman Catholic church. Through the years many reconstructions were made and now it has neo-Gothic style as well. It was an interesting and calming experience to walk inside and enjoy the silence and the beauty of the arts inside.

Very old church. One of the must go at Augsburg. Very nicely maintained. Heights of peace when u go inside and sit . Beautiful glass paintings. Can be easily accessed by tram transport .beautiful paints can also be seen inside the church

Loved this cathedral so much. I am not aware of the history but it looks so magnificient and beautiful. This Church is nothing like any other churches in Bavaria. The whole vibe is so pious and pure :) We loved our time spent in here:) You must definitely visit this cathedral:)

Spring time is one of the best time to visit the Zoo...there are so many offspring. We had a great time!

I highly recommend visiting this place! It’s a beautiful spot for a walk, with plenty of space to explore and enjoy. I visited during the winter, so it was quite cold, and we didn’t get to see many animals like giraffes, elephants, and a few others. However, the experience was still lovely, and I’m sure it would be even better in warmer seasons when more animals are out. Definitely worth a visit!
FantaSticJatsKy — Google review
Nice smaller zoo. Lots of animals. Fair entry price. Not the biggest and best but great. Advertise feeding times. We where lucky to catch the seelions. Staff was friendly and helpfull at the entrance and shops. Except at the Maki's. Totally rude and unwilling to speak anything other than German. Not understanding each other leads to situations that need to be avoided. And yes I understand you but don't speak it good enouf. I'm not deducting a point for the incident but hope you speak to your staff! Instruction can be given in a friendly manor and in example English.
Clipson P — Google review
Such a nice amazing place I loved it 😍 In this season they didn't have many animals because it's winter so they made a light show thing that looks amazing 😍 I recommend going after it's dark because that's when the lights open ❤️❤️❤️

We first went there on a Public holiday and it was impossible. There was no parking, the cue was very very long. I guess one could wait upto two hours. We decided to go back home and reschedule. We went back on a Thursday and it was worth it. Entrance fee was 14 euros for adults. We parked close to the entrance and there was no cue at all. We arrived one at 16:00 and the zoo closes at 17:00 thus we had to rush. It was around feeding time and it was interesting. We enjoyed the walk around the zoo and the animals were looking healthy and well taken care of. Some few walk ways were closed and the restaurant too. We could not see some animals. The play ground is huge and for all age groups though we could not use it due to time. Some animals were already indoor due to the changing weather example giraffe, zebra and Elephant Overall it was a good experience and we shall go back in summer.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Augsburg Zoo, and I must say that it was a truly enjoyable experience. The first thing that struck me was the impeccable maintenance of the zoo. The pathways were clean and well-maintained, and the entire facility had a welcoming atmosphere. One of the highlights of Augsburg Zoo was undoubtedly the care and attention given to the animals. Most of the animals appeared to be happy and healthy, which is a testament to the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to ensure their well-being. It was heartwarming to see them in their habitats, engaging in natural behaviors and interacting with each other. The zoo offers a wide variety of animal species, ranging from local fauna to exotic creatures from around the world. This diversity was particularly appealing, as it provided a great educational opportunity for children to learn about different species and their habitats. It was a joy to see the fascination in their eyes as they observed these magnificent animals up close. However, I did notice that a few of the exotic animals seemed slightly agitated during my visit. While this was a minor concern, I sincerely hope that the zoo's dedicated team is working to alleviate any distress they may be experiencing. It's essential to prioritize the well-being and comfort of all the animals, and I trust that the zoo is taking appropriate measures to address any issues. The zoo's amenities were also worth mentioning. There were well-placed seating areas and picnic spots throughout the park, providing ample opportunities for families to take a break and enjoy their surroundings. Additionally, the availability of refreshments and snacks made it convenient for visitors to stay energized during their visit. Overall, Augsburg Zoo is a fantastic place to spend a day with the family. The well-maintained facilities, happy and healthy animals, and the educational experiences it offers make it a great choice for both young and old. While there were a few animals that appeared agitated, I believe the zoo is committed to their welfare. I wholeheartedly recommend Augsburg Zoo for a memorable and enriching outing for the whole family.

City Hall
Sights & Landmarks
Augsburg Town Hall, also known as Augsburger Rathaus, is a significant historical building in Augsburg, Germany. Constructed in the early 17th century by architect Elias Holl, it stands as a remarkable example of German Renaissance secular architecture. The highlight of this iconic landmark is the opulent Golden Hall ('Goldener Saal'), renowned for its lavish gilded wooden ceiling and intricate decorations.
One of the historical buildings in Augsburg, it was rebuilt after 60% of it being destroyed during WW2. Golden hall is absolutely worth it. The building itself welcomes both working politicians and visitors at the same time. We almost disrupted heated debate there.
Saba B — Google review
One of the city landmarks, located in front of a lovely square with café and bars.
Tony B — Google review
built in the 1600's by Elias Holl with the late renaissance architecture. it is the icon of the city with Eagle painting on the front and the pine coat of arm on the Top. impressive architecture and the entrance is free on the Groundfloor where you can visit the war memorials and ancient relics and modules from the City.
David A — Google review
Quite a sight to behold from the outside, more so on the inside. Only a €2.50 entry fee for adults to enter the Goldener Saal (Golden Hall), which is very impressive. You can also visit a couple of informative exhibitions for free on the ground floor, including a brief history of Augsburg.
Adrian F — Google review
Wow. The golden room is definitely worth visiting. Reasonable €2.5 per person to visit. This beautiful building has a hidden golden nugget inside. Literally. The golden room has over 2.7kg (5Lbs) of gold coating all over the moldings and statues. The history of this over 450 years old building is fascinating, and how it survived and was rebuilt after WW2. The staff dis knowledgeable and super helpful with any questions when visiting. They even offer a folder in English or Spanish for international visitors.
Phil L — Google review
The "golden saal" or the golden hall inside is beautiful and amazing. The entrance fee is cheap especially if you are student, anyway to enter the rathaus is free. You will also have a good view of the square down below from the hall.

It houses the German Baroque Gallery and the State Gallery, showcasing opulent rooms adorned with invaluable artwork by renowned painters such as Paolo Veronese, Holbein the Elder, Albrecht Durer, Canaletto, and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
Absolutely stunning! Schaezlerpalais is a true gem, rich in history and breathtakingly beautiful. A special highlight of our visit was the detailed and passionate explanation given by a knowledgeable guide who shared the fascinating story behind this place and its remarkable paintings. Her insights brought the history and art to life, making the experience even more memorable. Highly recommend visiting! And also it was Free on first Sunday of November

Amazing place! Staff is very helpful. The guy from the main gorgeous room told us a mirror 🪞 secret. The lady from reception was super friendly. Highly recommend!

This building has a pearl of German baroque: very beautiful hall. Apart from that, this is nice little muzeum with good collection of art, especially local painters. The good thing also, there are almost no people. So, I suggest to spend an hour here while visiting Augsburg.
Yury R — Google review
I visited on Sunday with free entrance. you can see 3 rooms in the 2nd floor full of art paint works and furniture from the 1700's. the whole 1st floor is available to visit with multiple art works that leads you from a room to another until you reach the Gallery Hall full of decorations and mirrors. theres a garden designed from that era that offer relaxation.

Very very nice place to see in Augsburg, maybe as same astonishing as a very close and much more known Goldener Saal in Rathaus. And if you visit it on Sunday the entrance is free, although it is absolutely worth it a few euros on any other day :)

German restaurant
Nestled in the historic basement of Augsburg's town hall, Ratskeller Augsburg offers a delightful dive into Southern German cuisine within an impressive brick-vaulted setting. This restaurant is steeped in history, showcasing architectural styles from Roman to Baroque, with remnants dating back to the 12th century. The ambiance is perfect for enjoying traditional Bavarian dishes like their renowned Kasspatzen and schnitzel, making it an ideal spot for family gatherings or friendly meet-ups.
Fantastic dining experience. High quality dishes, impeccable service and an incredibly warm atmosphere in stunning old world surroundings. Will frequent more often when visiting Augsburg.
Marisa K — Google review
A place to enjoy traditional Bavarian food right in the Rathaus building. On the time of our visit, the hall was empty, all guests were seated in the yard. The weather was warm and sunny, and the whole experience would be great if not one small detail - smoking is allowed in the open area and as some guests were smoking the odor was reaching to our table with the slight wind. The menu is huge, nobody will stay hungry. Kid's menu is great! We weren't very hungry, so we ordered only two dishes - traditional potato cream-soup / Kartoffelcremesuppe (5.7€) for me and traditional Swabian meat dumplings / Maultaschen (11.4€) for my sister. I liked the sweet and savory taste of the Sauerkraut added to the soup, while the soup was a bit heavy and less creamy than I had in other cities in Germany. The dumplings were tender, the potatoes were crispy and the gravy was complimenting the dish just right. I think it would be good to visit this place again (and have a table in the hall), maybe at a little bit later hour, and try one of the traditional desserts this place offers.
Mariam H — Google review
This restaurant is beneath the Augsburg City Hall. We stopped here without a reservation on a week day which they didn't seem too enthusiastic about. Nevertheless we got a table in the nearly empty restaurant. The food was great and the service was fast. I will agree that even at the time when there weren't too many guests it was quite loud.
Philicia — Google review
We had the best Radlers (lemon beer) and delicious schnitzel and other traditional foods here. The atmosphere is dark and cozy as well as lively too. I highly recommend trying it.
Ashley C — Google review
The nicest place in all of Augsburg, both for the place itself and the tasteful food (not too expensive, I was expecting way more). There is a lot of choices, but the service - even in very kind and available - is a little bit slow. It is very recommended to book in advance (for groups even a MONTH) because it is not only good but also famous. Bonus point: big and clean bathrooms

The best authentic German food in the area. Ate here two nights in a row and had the veal schnitzel with red cabbage and spaetzle... Phenomenal

We have dined at Maximilian's a few times and have enjoyed every meal. We took a friend for his birthday, and server Lisa Fediuk was somewhat new at the time. She was nevertheless charming, warm, and was able to explain the menu very well. About one year later later, we went there with my sister and brother-in-law, who are not German speakers, and she was once again our server! Her English was fantastic and her service skills had become even smoother and more refined. Thank you for a wonderful evening. We truly felt attended to and care for!

this restaurant was in our hotel so we decided to give it a go since it’s a Michelin star restaurant we had high hopes for a fabulous dinner ( unfortunately since I did not know the name of the Michelin star restaurant I asked the receptionist to make me a reservation for hotel thinking it was that Michelin star restaurant it’s closed during this period of time and she should’ve told me that language barrier went for dinner at 8 PM. The service was not good. We didn’t get out of there till 10 o’clock. It took a very long time to get our food, the schnitzel was just plate with two pieces of schnitzel on it very unattractive salmon was well placed on a plate it was very good. We also had a salad. I was disappointed. This is supposed to be a Michelin restaurant and the service and the presentation wasn’t what I expected. I realize that this was not the Michelin star restaurant I had asked to go to, unfortunately too late to do anything about it. there is a language barrier for me so disappointed. The Michelin star restaurant has been closed for this summer holiday. Again, it was my own problem because I didn’t explain which one I didn't know there was two in this hotel This was basically the hotel restaurant.

Chef Simon Lang surprises guests with unique menu variations based on French cuisine enriched with Mediterranean influences, promising a flavorful experience. The restaurant offers 3, 5, and 7-course options accompanied by perfect wine pairings.
We had the Thursday menu with wine pairing. All courses were excellent and well-presented with local and some fusion flavors, e.g. the Onsen egg with white Alba truffles. Our waiter, Lars Vogel, outdid himself. Well-deserved Michelin star.

We celebrated our anniversary 2 July 2025. We had the summer menu with the wine pairing. From the initial greeting and throughout our stay we had a wonderful time. Each course was excellent in taste, quality of ingredients, and creative presentation. The wines were well chosen, excellent quality and interesting. Food, service and atmosphere deserve 5 stars each. The biggest thank you to Simon Lang's excellent kitchen and service team! They are professional, knowledgeable and competent. We had a wonderful evening and we will be back. Thank you!

Quite possibly the best "fine dining" & wine pairings experience ever. The Menu du Chef was excellent & the Vegetarian Menu allowed my wife to make several delightful swap outs. Server/Moderator Tobias had a superb knowledge of both the food & wine, as well as tremendous delivery talents! 👌

Beautiful presentation and amazing food. One star less because of the service. I guess nowadays, especially these kinds of restaurants, have some stuff trouble. Beside that was all as expected!
Sig P — Google review
The restaurant would warrant at least one more star had the service not taken in excess of 4 hours. Agreed, the 7 course menu takes some time, but the plates are not that large that one needs 15 minutes plus to digest to get another dish. The wine list is extensive and interesting, albeit on the expensive side. It seemed to us, that various tables got an accelerated service - for me not understandable.

(Translated by Google) An evening between aesthetics, flavors, and sophistication There are evenings that don't feel like reality—but rather like a perfectly staged film. This visit in August was exactly that. We naturally had some expectations of the two-star Michelin restaurant, and I can already say that we were repeatedly surprised, impressed, or speechless. A culinary experience that touched not only the palate, but also the heart and soul. We had a completely vegetarian menu. No sacrifice, just transformation. Every dish was a work of art: thoughtful, composed, bold. Textures, colors, temperatures—nothing was accidental. The kitchen demonstrated how powerful plant-based ingredients can be when treated with true vision. I was fortunate enough to meet the chef—a personality who impresses not only with skill, but also with attitude. Inspired, grounded, with a love of detail. Shared with my best friends, this evening became a small chapter in my own film. Unforgettable. Unvergesslich.
